The Impacts And Benefits Of Ecotourism To Costa Rica
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the impacts and benefits of ecotourism to Costa Rica in the
perspective of the environment, local community and development of tourism sustainability; the ways
ecotourism creates awareness of the importance of natural and cultural conservation; and the
prospective benefits and risks of ecotourism to Costa Rica in term of the local community, the
biodiversity and the environment.
2.0 The Impacts and Benefits of Ecotourism to Costa Rica As tourism is clearly going mainstream in
Costa Rica currently, it must have leave an impacts to the country, be it an advantages or
disadvantages to the country.
2.1 Protection of Nature As mentioned earlier, in 1983, almost half of the woodland was cut down.
But when Costa Rica began the industry of ecotourism and build more national parks and wildlife
parks, the annual deforestation rate had dropped. In 1998 the deforestation rate had dropped to zero,
and currently, the forest cover has increased to more than 50%, which doubled from 1983 (Blasiak
2011). The expansion of the protected area of the country to 30% had saved many areas from being
used for logging, farming or mining, which will cause a lot of flora and fauna to extinct, given that
Costa Rica is the home to estimated more than 850 of bird ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To point it out, with the overflowing amount of tourists coming in to Costa Rica, new hotels, facilities
and infrastructures will have to be built. As a result, disturbance of wildlife and vegetation damage
will happen, and as a matter of fact, in the Manuel Antonio area, this has already cause biodiversity
losses and it is expected that the same will happen to the Monteverde region not far in the future

For The Past Forty Years, Ohio Is Believed To Have Gone
For the past forty years, Ohio is believed to have gone through a process of deindustrialization. This
means that Ohio experienced a decline in manufacturing jobs. While this is a simple definition, the
origins of the term deindustrialization gives a deeper, more pejorative meaning to the term. This
darker meaning to the term is perhaps more effectively conveyed through the term rust belt. After
Ohio wen through the process of deindustrialization, the lack of industrial jobs in a once booming
industrial area left many factories empty and decommissioned. As these factories became older and
unused, their rusting facades became a symbol of the deindustrialization that Ohio experienced,
leading someone to coin the term rust belt for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The term traces its roots back to World War II. The concept of deindustrialization began in Nazi
Germany. The Nazis described the areas that they had invaded in conquered in this way. This is
because they eliminated any industry from the areas that they took over, forcing these states to become
dependent upon Germany for economic and industrial development. This philosophy was also used as
a punishment for those countries, showing the power of Nazi Germany. After the end of the war, the
Allies began to use the term deindustrialization , as well. Essentially taking the definition from the
Nazis, they used this term in discussions of how to punish Nazi Germany in post war rebuilding plans.
Regardless of who was using the term in World War II, there was always a negative connotation
attached to it. Rather than simply saying that it meant a decline in manufacturing jobs for an area, the
term was used as a punishment and a show of power. In its origins, deindustrialization was used by the
winners of a conflict to describe how they would take away industry from the losing nation or state.
For this reason, it can be seen how the term developed a negative connotation. The term grew
tremendously in usage around the 1970s, when factories began to downsize what would become
known as the

Religion Should Be Taught In Schools
Schools throughout the country are having trouble creating an equal atmosphere in relation to religion.
There have been many issues with regard to children being bullied and/or not permitted to wear
religious items. The First Amendment of the Constitution enables students to practice their religion,
but if the students show their religion they will not be accepted. Schools should change their
regulations, therefore allowing students to wear religious apparel, take action (pray, etc), and eat
school food without worrying about the food not being a part of their religion. In the real world,
everyone has the freedom of choice to live as they wish.
Before the students get to experience the real world, they spend their childhoods growing up in and
around schools. It would be best if they grew up knowing that their culture/religion will be accepted.
However, at this point in time, many who are displaying their beliefs openly, are getting in trouble
with school authorities. An example of this would be in California, where a seventh grade student, by
the name of Raymond, was suspended for wearing his rosary beads. Raymond told the following to
the news: They [school authorities] told me that if I didn t tuck them in my shirt then I would have to

head apparel are allowed to. Eagle Ridge is setting a standard of which all other schools, with a dress
code, should follow. It allows the students to be more confident in themselves regarding their religion.
The reason for that is because there may be other students who have the same religion and are being

The Art Of The Mona Lisa
The Mona Lisa is a painting done by Leonardo Da Vinci within the years of 1503 and 1519, done in
Florence Italy. The subject in the painting was Francesco del Gioconda s wife, and it took four years
for Leonardo to paint. The Mona Lisa painting depicts a woman seated in front of a vast mountainous
landscape with a mysterious smile and aura. The eyes have a luster and watery sheen, as well as the
skin, has shades and tints. The nose and eyebrows are shaped with such precision that only a master
painter can capture. Many spectators that look at the Mona Lisa claim that they see a beating pulse in
her throat. The Mona Lisa exhibits to the public Leonardo Da Vinci s idea of the cosmic link
connecting humanity and nature.

Leonardo Da Vinci created this piece to show the Renaissance period at its peak.
When the public eye saw this piece they said it was an epic demonstration of the naturalism at that
time. The Mona Lisa was a glorious representation of the talent that humans possessed.
It made the people think and it benefitted people s minds because the painting left people asking
questions. This painting was created during a very excellent time for art, and since the
Mona Lisa was debatably the best painting of that time, that made the painting very famous. The

The Mona Lisa looks so natural and so familiar, that we forget how innovative the painting was at the

The Meno Dialogue By Socrates
At the outset of the Meno dialogue, Meno asks Socrates, [...] can virtue be taught? Or is it not
teachable but the result of practice, or is it neither of these, but men possess it by nature or in some
other way? 70a. Meno is asking Socrates how one can acquire virtue, and these four questions offer
paths of investigation.
What are the paths and how are they dealt with? The first, can virtue be taught this is the main path
taken up for investigation of virtue. Second result of practice it doesn t seem as though this path is
dealt with (one could ask why it is that this isn t taken up, could it have to do with Meno as Socrates
foil?). Third by nature this path is rejected a few times, 89b, 98d, 99e. Fourth some other way this
open ended option seems as though it might offer a solution at the end of the dialogue (in the form of
divinity). However, before Socrates enters into Meno s initial question, there is a more important
question that needs turning over. What is virtue? I have sequestered my discussion on Socrates
investigation of what virtue is to an end note in order to stay under the word limit, for the present
purpose it is only important to say that Socrates and Meno can t find a clear definition of virtue, but
Meno pushes Socrates to investigate the aforementioned questions about the acquisition of virtue
regardless. Socrates does so despite the fact that the two don t know exactly or clearly what virtue is.
We can now follow the paths or

Life Orientation Line Dancing Portfolio
10 August 2015
Section B:
Definition: a type of country and western dancing in which dancers line up in a row without partners
and follow a choreographed pattern of steps to music.
History: Line dancing originated before Christ and it originated from another kind of dance called
Contra dancing which was done in the New England states in the early 1800s. The Contra was set up
in such a way that there would be two lines facing each other one line would be men and the other line
would be woman. A couple would then step into the middle and do their own routine down the line
and then the next couple would come forward and so on and so forth.
Skills: 1. Count to the beat of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the strengths that I realized while dancing was that I have a good ear for hearing the beat of the
music and find it easy to keep to the rhythm of the dance. I also found it easy to remember the steps
and the order of the steps. I struggled with the technicalities of certain steps. In the beginning I also
struggled with the enthusiasm that was needed in the dance due to a lack of confidence but this
enthusiasm increased as my confidence with the dance increased. I enjoyed learning choreography and
dancing in time to the music but I did not enjoy how some people were singled out and forced to
dance in front of the entire class. Line dancing was very beneficial not only physically but it also
teaches a lot of life lessons that cannot be learned anywhere else such as discipline and to respect and
appreciate women. I would participate in further line dancing activities because it is a good
opportunity to get to know new people and become involved in new thing and learn new skills. Line
dancing can improve confidence and self esteem so I would therefore do it again if I was struggling
with these things. I personally highly enjoyed going to the line dancing lessons as it was a way for me
to escape from the busy life of a matric student. It gave me a chance to forget about all other work and
subjects and allowed me to express myself in such a way that it relieved stress from my everyday

Essay On Crowd Out
Article Assessment Analyzing Two Peer Reviewed Journal Articles on the Implications of Medicaid
Expansion on Rates of Crowd Out.
The expansion of Medicaid in the United States has often been denounced due to fear of crowd out.
Crowd out studies have been investigated since the 1990s. Data vary from study to study with some
showing no significant evidence of crowd out to some showing up to 50% (Muhlestein, 2013). Crowd
out occurs when people choose to drop their private insurance plan in favor of enrolling in the public
plan. It can also occur if public program members refuse to use private plans available or if an
employer reduces coverage based on public program availability.
Rates of crowd out are subject to change due to the changing ... Show more content on

The purpose of this was to look at proportions of children who have private insurance within the
Medicaid eligibility threshold.
After conducting the study, researchers found significant differences in crowd out levels between
states with varying eligibility thresholds. Due to the varying levels of crowd out found in the analysis,
researchers also stated that studies of national crowd out rates should be disregarded. It was found that
3% of Medicaid eligible children in families with income 250% of Federal Poverty Level (FPL) and
6% of those in Medicaid eligible families with income 200% of FPL were found to be subject to
crowd out. It was found that no children in families with income 300% of FPL would be crowded out.
The RD method does not allow an overall crowd out estimate, so it is limited to localized estimates
based on the eligibility threshold. Therefore, it often misses those beyond the eligibility threshold who
are crowded out. However, it allows for steady enrollment analysis long after the expansion occurs.
Evidence of significant crowd out is likely influenced by differing methods of managing the Medicaid
population and policies put in place to prevent crowd out. It was also found that crowd out effects
decrease as the eligibility threshold increases because wealthier families within the range of eligibility
for Medicaid are less likely to switch from private to public

Themes Of Oppression In Crown Of Midnight By Sarah J Maas
Celaena heard it now as if for the first time, the story of a Fae blessed with a horrible, profound power
that was sought by kings and lords in every kingdom. While they used her to win wars and conquer
nations, they all feared her―and kept their distance (118). Sarah J Maas is an American Author best
recognized for her Throne of Glass series. Its second installment, Crown of Midnight, follows Celaena
as she spars with her loyalty. One grievous night forces her to choose allies and foes. To emphasize the
focal idea, Maas utilizes themes of rebellion, oppression, and death.
First and foremost, a crucial theme embedded is rebellion. The King of Adarlan is recognized as a
megalomaniac, from his own son to the prisoners in Callaculla. He is on a quest to conquer all of
Erilea. But in order to do so, he is in need of somebody to do all of his dirty work, and that is when
Celaena comes into the light. Her task is to kill the King s enemies. Conversely, she disobeys direct
orders. I haven t killed any of the people the king commanded me to assassinate (184). When she
consults it with her friend Chaol, he is livid. If the king finds out, he will force Chaol to kill Celaena
as punishment for being her friend. Chaol attempts to talk sense into Celaena by calling those men
traitors to the crown. She scoffs, Traitors. For refusing to grovel before a conqueror? For sheltering
escaped slaves trying to get home? For daring to believe in a world that s better than this gods

A Survey On Data Mining Classification Algorithms
A Survey on Data Mining Classification Algorithms
Abstract: Classification is one of the most familiar data mining technique and model finding process
that is used for transmission the data into different classes according to particular condition. Further
the classification is used to forecast group relationship for precise data instance. It is generally
construct models that are used to predict potential statistics trends. The major objective of machine
data is to perfectly predict the class for each record. This article focuses on a survey on different
classification techniques that are mostly used in data mining.
Keywords: Data mining, Classification, decision tree, neural network.

2. ARCHITECTURE OF DATA MINING
Data mining and knowledge discovery is the name frequently used to refer to a very interdisciplinary
field, which consists of using methods of several research areas to extract knowledge from real world
datasets. There is a distinction between the terms data mining and knowledge discovery which seems
to have been introduced by [Fayyad et al.1996].the term data mining refers to the core step of a
broader process, called knowledge discovery in database. Architecture of data mining structure is
defined the following figure.
3. DATA MINING PROCESS
 Data cleaning
 Data integration
 Data selection
 Data transformation
 Pattern evaluation
 Knowledge presentation.
Data cleaning: Data cleaning or data scrubbing is the process of detecting as well as correcting (or
removing) inaccurate data from a record set. It handles noisy data it represents random error in
attribute values. In very large dataset noise can come in many shapes and forms. And irrelevant data
handles the missing and unnecessary data in the source file.
Data integration: Data integration process contains the data from multiple sources.

Death By Neil Degrasse Tyson Analysis
By reading the book Death by Black Hole: And Other Cosmic Quandaries, one can deduce that the
author, Neil deGrasse Tyson, is man of intelligence with a love for the ways of the universe. He
clearly has a passion for what he does, as he immerses himself in his personal interests by giving
public lectures about the cosmos (346). He values his personal interest so much that he has solved
how long it would take to cook a 16 inch pepperoni pizza on Venus; the answer is seven seconds (80).
Tyson obviously has a strong enthusiasm for what he does as an astrophysicist and has spent many
years in this field. Throughout the book, he explains concepts in ways that the reader is able to
understand and relate to. He uses simple topics to help explain our complex universe. For example, he
introduces the idea of a constant and uses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reader learns more about Tyson through the chapter Holy Wars, in which he explains his beliefs
on God and religion. While the author does not indicate that he is an atheist, the reader is drawn to the
conclusion that he does not believe in God. He states that if the Bible had ever been shown to be a rich
source of scientific answers and understanding, [scientists] would be mining it daily for cosmic
discovery (352). This statement evidently states that the Bible holds no valuable information with
regards to the universal laws and ideas. On the last page of the book, Tyson further emphasizes that
one cannot put complete faith in a higher being by stating that [God] does not want students who
could make the next major breakthrough in renewable energy sources or space travel to have been
taught that anything they do not understand, and that nobody yet understands, is divinely constructed
and therefore beyond intellectual capability

Summary Of Slouching Toward Bethlehem By Joan Didion
Los Angeles possesses the characteristics of great fame and fortune as well as immense homelessness
and poverty. Often times, young people are misled by the financial success of some and assume that is
typical of city people. Writers Joan Didion and Carol Muske Dukes characterize the realization that an
adolescent s lifestyle is not suitable for the demands of a city as signaling the dawn of the apocalypse.
In the essay, Slouching Towards Bethlehem, Didion highlights how the failure of society is brought
about by a family s inability to fulfill traditional roles and a lack of education as exemplified during
the Hippie movement. While poet Muske Dukes utilizes gothic language and allusion to illustrate the
notion of an apocalypse in the poem Like This .
In the essay Slouching Towards Bethlehem , the author parallels the destruction of society to the
weakening of traditional family practices in an effort to demonstrate how apocalypse escalates in a
city. Didion begins her essay by describing notions of apocalypse in the form of bankruptcy
notices...casual killings and misplaced children and abandoned homes (84). While these actions do not
appear to target a specific group, in every case families receive the most set back. Families play an
essential role in preparing future generations to become working members of society. Until the age of
eighteen, a child is reliant upon their parents to supply adequate shelter, food, water, and access to
education. Traditionally, parents are responsible for guiding their children by communicating certain
values or morals to them. Didion emphasizes this aspect of childhood in her reflection on how parents
do not teach children, and will never learn the games that had held the society together (84). Before a
child is capable of formulating their own opinions, they look to their parents for guidance on matters
they cannot fully understand. As a child advances their education, they become more aware of how to
interpret their surroundings and will eventually cease to rely on the others opinions. Human behavior,
parenting, and education expert Dr. Gail Gross discusses the importance of parental figures by noting
how our interactions with our parents form the crucible for our

What Is Procedural Programming Paradigm
Task 1
What is Procedural Programming Paradigm?
In Information Technology(IT) jargon Programming is termed as an innovative process where the
computer receives instructions how to perform a task as per the requirement or solving a specific
problem.
The various ways of attending to the process of programming is known as programming paradigms.
Majority of programming language comes under one paradigm; contrary to this one could observe
some languages having elements of multiple paradigms. Paradigm is a way where a specific code is
arranged. A code comprises various commands or instructions there in relation to functions and or
procedures.
Most vital programming paradigms can be listed as Procedural paradigms and the object oriented

From August 1888 to November of the same year, the Whitechapel area of London was under attack
by an unknown assailant. He terrorized the district, as well as surrounding areas, by killing and

violence towards prostitutes was not unusual, but the way the bodies were attacked and dismembered

known social networking web site, Facebook enables users to connect with friends, colleagues, and
family by sharing updates about their status, personal photos and videos, and other items of interest .
The site also allows sending personal messages or chats with other users, make public an event and
invite guests, promote various public pages, and interaction with members with common interests
(Rouse). Mark Zuckerberg, a student at Harvard University, launched The facebook, as it was initially
know, in February 2004. It extended to various United States High Schools and other universities in
the United States such as the Ivy League, and eventually began to spread worldwide. As of September
2006, Facebook can be used outside of educational institutions, as the site can be used by anyone
(Phillips). As of June 2017, web site has two billion monthly active users, making it the most popular
and used social networking web site (Welch). Facebook has changed the world in numerous ways,
such as faster assimilation of information, how we keep in touch with others, express yourselves and
our sentiments, and share moments of our lives in a click of a button, how we interact each with each
other, and how it displays the current events of the world (Wagner). Facebook also has a fair share of
its positive and negative effects. Some of the positive effects are it allows people to keep in

Levi Jordan Plantation Research Paper
The Plantation
The Levi Jordan Plantation was established in 1848 and was abandoned in about 1888. Some artifacts
that were found on the plantation were Coins, Rings, Bone Saw Frame, and Slave Tag. Some caches
were found, in them were shells, animal bones, wine bottles, copper, metal objects, cast iron pans,
grapes, and tobacco pipes. Some pots were also found in what is thought to be the Blacksmith s Cabin,
next to the Hearth. It was probably used to bake clay and for warmth. In the blacksmith s Cabin Bullet
Molds, Metal Tools, Arrowheads, and some toys were found, leading people to believe that there were

When Blacksmiths were first starting, they would blow on the flames to stoke them and would hit
molten pieces of metal with rock. As time progressed on, the put a handle on their rocks and used a
bellows to stoke the flame. In modern times blacksmiths used a hand crank fan and used the hammers
that we use today. What blacksmiths make has also changed quite a bit. In the past they would make
almost everything, from tools, to wagons, to pans. As time went on they made less things, especially
weapons as more machines could mass produce them, and blacksmithing almost died out in the
industrial revolution. In modern times blacksmiths are almost never called upon to make anything
other than decorative items for people who want something hand made. The prices have changed, for
example, as stated by, , Blacksmith Emerson Bixby of Barre, Massachusetts charged as little as 2¢ to
make a simple small item such as an axe wedge; 12¢ to mend (repair) a hoe; an average of 75¢ to
mend an axe; 79¢ to shoe an ox; between $1.00 and $1.50 to new lay (repair and reshape) a plow; and
as much as $5.50 to make and apply all the ironwork on a new wagon.¨ Money from 1850 has
changed a lot to now, $100 in 1850=$2,931.69 in 2016. Weapons have also changed a lot over the
centuries. For example gunpowder was invented in China in the 9th century. The first gun was fired in
1364 and inventions followed quickly after. Some notable ones are 1498 rifling, 1818 revolver, 1855

The Battle of King s Mountain between the American Loyalist and American Patriots took place on
October 7, 1780 near Blackburn, South Carolina and Kings Mountain, North Carolina. Major Patrick
Ferguson s American Loyalist augmented to the Ninety Six District, South Carolina, totaled 1,200

New Jersey Volunteers, and the Loyal American Regiment. (Wicker, 1998)
The American Patriots totaled 900 men under the leaderships of William Campbell, James Johnston,
John Sevier, Benjamin Cleveland, Joseph Winston, Joseph McDowell, Frederick Hambright, James

themselves, whose leadership they would follow. (Wicker, 1998) The British dismissed them to be no
threat. (Jones, 2009) While waiting for other men to arrive, the patriot militia prepared for the cross
country march. They prepared their clothing and equipment. They packed food such as corn and jerky
for the journey. They tended to the horses and cleaned their rifles. They mined lead from near hillsides
to make ammunitions. Their local populace supplied them gunpowder. (Jones,

Role of International Relations
The political world has evolved and reshaped itself greatly throughout the history of mankind, with its
most important and distinctive change occurring during the period of 1945, the end of the Second
World War and 1989 which marked the end of the Cold War. The interaction of nation states is center
of politics on the international level, where the relationships of different nations dictates what events

Since 1945 the world has evolved immensely, with great power changes and ever changing
economies. Economic activity, in regards to expanded global trade and monetary policies being
formed, with the increased communication technology and globalization, has created a widespread
global interdependence. Nations rely more now than ever on other nation states for trade purposes to
maintain a consistent cohesion of their economies. With increased global interdependence came a
need for institutions to manage and control the actions between nation states and expand economies
into other outlets globally that were seen as foreign such as Asia and some parts of Europe . Liberal
Institutionalism, with the concept of higher need for such organizations as North American Free Trade

security and military needs that were seen at the beginning of our time scope of 1945 1989. The
Second World War was devastating to almost the entire world populace and had a crippling effect on
the world economies. It was only by the time of the Cold War that many of the nations involved in the

In society today, it is not uncommon for females to spend their twenties and early thirties furthering
their education and progressing in their profession and the ability to freeze their eggs can certainly
take the pressure off the battle against the biological clock. Difficulties with the economic crisis have
led to people reaching financial stability later than ever before. The rise in property prices and the
increasing cost of living are reasons why the option of freezing eggs is becoming so popular. During
our prime years, many females are struggling in rented accommodation, paying off student debts and
lacking job security which means they feel unable to consider comfortably starting a family until years
down the line. With more time being spent in work and education, it leaves less opportunity to find the
perfect man to settle down with and have a family. Increasingly, women are using the option of
freezing their eggs as a safety net, allowing them to give birth when their biological clock is telling
them otherwise. This is also a common method for females who have their first baby at a mature age
and are determined to have more than one. Egg freezing will increase the likeliness of this, even after

Odysseus and Penelope Essay
Odysseus and Penelope
Odysseus and Penelope are the best two example of what it really means to be human because of their
great courage to overcome all obstacles for a greater cause. There is not one true definition on what it
means to be human, but the most knowledgeable definition of human is to be created in the image of
God. The attributes that really set humans apart from all the other animals on earth are imagination,
reason, and will. These three human faculties make us who we are because we have the ability to
counter plate our own mortality. Dr. Davis stated, You cannot love another person without imagination

In book five Odysseus is presented with a very great and tempting barrier. Calypso confronts him with
this statement, But if you only knew, down deep, what pains are fated to fill your cup before you reach
that shore, you d stay right here, preside in our house with me and be immortal. She promised him that
he would possess a trait that no other human in the odyssey has, immortality. Even though her offers
are very tempting and would be self fulfilling, he promptly rejects because all he wants is to go home
and the love of his life, Penelope. This act alone shows that he was willing to give himself and up for a
greater cause. He showed great discipline and faithfulness to reject Calypso s offer and to continue on
his journey home. At the beginning of the epic, Odysseus did have one flaw that could have been
detrimental to his homecoming journey and that was self glorification. By the end of the Odyssey,
Odysseus overcame his pride and tempered it with patience because at the end of the day he didn t
really know that Penelope would be waiting on him, but he was willing to put in the effort to find out
what was at the end of the road. Penelope, just as Odysseus, portrayed the great human trait of
patience. She did what it took to fend off the suitors with hope that her husband would come back for
her. Penelope didn t give up hope because she felt in heart that Odysseus would come

Essay on Baddeley and Hitch’s Working Memory Model
This essay addresses the working memory model which was proposed by Baddeley and Hitch (1974 in
Smith Kosslyn, 2007) as a response to Atkinson and Shiffrins (1968 in Smith, 2007) multi store
model. According to Baddely and Hitch the multi store model failed to explain most of the
complexities of the human memory and viewed it as being too simplistic. They argued that the short
term memory store must have more components rather it being a single inflexible store as suggested
previously by Atkinson and Shiffrin (1968). The working memory model is therefore an enhancement
of the multi store model. According to Baddeley and Hitch working memory is a limited capacity
system that stores and processes information.

This is interpreted as because the capacity of the phonological loop is limited in time (in Smith, 2007).
Further evidence for the existence of the phonological loop comes from Conrads and Hulls (1975 in
Passer, 2009) experiment in which they examined the effect of phonological similarity. They found
that serial recall in a list of similar sounding words tended to yield poorer results with participants
finding it difficult to remember compared to words that sounded different. It has also been found that
recall in semantically similar words tended to have little or no effect, supporting the idea that verbal
information is transferred in a phonological manner in working memory. In addition, Vallar and
Papagno (1995 in Smith, 2007) found that the phonological store in brain damaged patients were
dysfunctional.
Moreover, Hardyk and Petrinovich (1970 in Parkin, 1993) found the articulatory loop to be crucial
when being presented with complex information. In their study they measured participants throat
muscle and forearm muscle activity although some may argue that this was not a good technique to
carry out. Their findings led to them conclude that when participants were presented with complex
material their articulatory loop would come in to function (in Parkin, 1993).
In addition, memory span tasks support the existence of the articulatory loop showing that task ability

Crime Statistics Do Not Reflect True Crime Rates Essay
Crime statistics are not what we are led to believe. We hear a lot about the crime rates going up and
down from the media and they tend to expand on specific types of criminal behavior that might be of
interest to the public. When politicians are running for office we are told that the crime rates are down
due to the tough crime policies that they have been implemented. Citizens seek crime rates for
assistance in determining if the area they reside in is safe. Some people wish to get a general idea of
the crime rates for a specific neighborhood where they are thinking of purchasing a house. But what is

By police agencies using this form of statistical classifying, there is a major loss in the data of the
lower crimes on the scale. A complete total of certain crimes are not included in the statistics creating
several inaccuracies in the totals. The UCR policy does not require all crimes to be reported to the
state. Violations of the General City Ordinance and Vehicle and Traffic Law are considered too low for
the hierarchy scale. These types of crimes are never included in the monthly submission and we
generally never hear about them. Since crime statistics begin at the forefront of the police department,
the police officer, this leaves a lot of room for unreliability. Police officers create crime data by
completing and submitting crime reports and arrest reports. These reports include all of the pertinent
information necessary for the committed crime(s) for a specific incident.
There are times when police officers fail to complete written reports of certain crimes or they
downgrade the offense of a report to a less serious offense. Meanwhile, some police reports are over
rated in the seriousness of certain offenses. At the end of each officer s shift the reports and arrest
records are submitted to the appropriate unit or division of occurrence. Within a day or two these
records are then transferred to a central records department and maintained at this location. During the
transfer from one unit to another these records

The Impact Of Reality Television And Its Impact On Society
Reality television is an addicting phenomenon that graces millions of televisions daily. From shows
like Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Life of Kylie, and Love and Hip Hop to series like My Strange
Addiction, Hoarders, and My 600 lb Life, reality TV has left its mark and impacted today s society in
more ways than one. It has slithered into mass media to dominate lives and focus on real events or
situations that have long term effects on its viewers. This brand of television serves as a reflection of
society and often exploits its participants if not glamorizes a certain lifestyle that may seem
unattainable to its viewers. For example, the Kardashians represent success and the achievement of the
American dream that, to many, is elusive. Through the dramatization of mental illness, Hoarders
exploits its viewers and reinforces the perception of these people as outsiders which lead to further
marginalization and hiding of hoarding behavior. Shows that look down on and criticize certain
lifestyles, such as Hoarders, function as a cautionary story and is put out to the public as a warning of
how not to live. Lifestyle themed programs are also connected to broader campaigns, orchestrated by
private and public partners to promote desired behaviors such as delayed parenting and healthy eating
(Oullette). With this program, A E tends to sensationalize these people and sends the message to its
audience that this behavior is monstrous and should be avoided at all costs. A E chooses to dramatize
the manifestation of hoarding as opposed to using the platform to get to the root of hoarding for both
the viewers and the hoarders themselves. Although some episodes are less offensive than others,
Hoarders exploits its subjects and interferes with the viewer s potential for empathy. The ordinary
celebrity promised by television, and the incitement to perform the real for ratings, accentuates these
possibilities and constraints, and raises important questions about whether ordinary people are
empowered or exploited through nonfiction and reality programming (Oullette). Instead of
encouraging proper treatment it presents hoarding as something that is impossible to relate to and
rather than sympathize, viewers are

Soil Pollution
Presently, most cars run on gasoline and thus gas stations are vital to our everyday life. In urban cities,
gas stations are found in just about every other corner. It has already been documented that burning
gasoline produces toxic fumes that contributes to air pollution, global warming, and many health
concerns. Soil surrounding a gas station can also be contaminated with gasoline and generate soil
pollution. In comparison with air, soil is more complex in composition and function. It functions as a
sink for pollutants, as a filter which delays the passage of chemicals to groundwater, and as a
bioreactor for organic life. Just as gas is a source of fuel for cars, soil is an essential component of the
earth s ecosystem. It serves as a home to many microbes and provides the necessary nutrients to plants
that dwell in it. The pondus hyrdogenii (pH) indicates a solution s acidity and alkalinity. A pH value of
7 is considered neutral. A solution with a pH between 0 to 7 is acid and one between 7 to 14 is
alkaline. Most biological organisms including plants have a very narrow range of pH values in which
environmental substrates can survive. Plants prefer acidic substances. This leads to the following
questions: Are gas stations in El Paso, Texas a contributing factor to soil contamination?
Do Gas Stations Cause Soil Contamination?

PepsiCo (n.d.) is a global food and beverage leader with a diverse product portfolio that includes 22
brands that each generates over $1 billion in revenue ( Global Brands , n.d.). While PepsiCo is second
only to Coca Cola in the production of CSD beverages, PepsiCo is the number one producer of snack

last five years (Cardenal, 2013, n.p.) because PepsiCo is able to leverage sales of its complementary
snack foods with CSD (De Kluyver Pearce, 2011).
However, PepsiCo s success is a result of leadership by its long standing CEO, Indra Nooyi and her

Essay about Japanese Foreign Direct Investment (FDI)
JAPANESE FDI In the era of globalization, international trade and international investments are
expanding at exponential rates. Almost all developed countries are involved in Foreign Direct
Investment processes, both in the form of outward and inward FDI. Among those developed countries
there is the case of Japan that is different; Japanese attitude towards FDI has always been, in fact, very
cautious. One one hand, Japanese outward foreign investment and exports have played a fundamental
role in the postwar period of economic rise; on the other hand, the accesses to the domestic market by
foreign investors, the so called Inward FDI, has been very limited. (Paprzycki, Fukao, 2008). Japan is

Therefore, it has been obliged to deregulate foreign exchange controls by observing article 8 of the
IMF (International Monetary Fund) charter. Despite all this, Japanese government at that time
considered inward foreign investment as a threat for local market; in 1967, in fact, the Gaishi
Shingikai (Foreign Investment Deliberation Council) highlighted the negative points of the liberal
capitalization, defining the domination of foreign firms as negative for Japan s economy. (Suginohara,
2008). From 1960, with the approval by the government of the Basic Plan for Liberalization of Trade
and Foreign Exchange, a major number of sectors was liberalized; Japan subsequently liberalized
imports, capital transactions and financial sector. Starting from the second half of the 1960s Inward
and outward FDI were liberalized step by step, and in May 1972 the possession of foreign currency by
residents was liberalized. In December 1980 the Foreign Capital Law was incorporated to the Foreign

  • 2. The Impacts And Benefits Of Ecotourism To Costa Rica The purpose of this paper is to analyze the impacts and benefits of ecotourism to Costa Rica in the perspective of the environment, local community and development of tourism sustainability; the ways ecotourism creates awareness of the importance of natural and cultural conservation; and the prospective benefits and risks of ecotourism to Costa Rica in term of the local community, the biodiversity and the environment. 2.0 The Impacts and Benefits of Ecotourism to Costa Rica As tourism is clearly going mainstream in Costa Rica currently, it must have leave an impacts to the country, be it an advantages or disadvantages to the country. 2.1 Protection of Nature As mentioned earlier, in 1983, almost half of the woodland was cut down. But when Costa Rica began the industry of ecotourism and build more national parks and wildlife parks, the annual deforestation rate had dropped. In 1998 the deforestation rate had dropped to zero, and currently, the forest cover has increased to more than 50%, which doubled from 1983 (Blasiak 2011). The expansion of the protected area of the country to 30% had saved many areas from being used for logging, farming or mining, which will cause a lot of flora and fauna to extinct, given that Costa Rica is the home to estimated more than 850 of bird ... • 3. For The Past Forty Years, Ohio Is Believed To Have Gone For the past forty years, Ohio is believed to have gone through a process of deindustrialization. This means that Ohio experienced a decline in manufacturing jobs. While this is a simple definition, the origins of the term deindustrialization gives a deeper, more pejorative meaning to the term. This darker meaning to the term is perhaps more effectively conveyed through the term rust belt. After Ohio wen through the process of deindustrialization, the lack of industrial jobs in a once booming industrial area left many factories empty and decommissioned. As these factories became older and unused, their rusting facades became a symbol of the deindustrialization that Ohio experienced, leading someone to coin the term rust belt for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The term traces its roots back to World War II. The concept of deindustrialization began in Nazi Germany. The Nazis described the areas that they had invaded in conquered in this way. This is because they eliminated any industry from the areas that they took over, forcing these states to become dependent upon Germany for economic and industrial development. This philosophy was also used as a punishment for those countries, showing the power of Nazi Germany. After the end of the war, the Allies began to use the term deindustrialization , as well. Essentially taking the definition from the Nazis, they used this term in discussions of how to punish Nazi Germany in post war rebuilding plans. Regardless of who was using the term in World War II, there was always a negative connotation attached to it. Rather than simply saying that it meant a decline in manufacturing jobs for an area, the term was used as a punishment and a show of power. In its origins, deindustrialization was used by the winners of a conflict to describe how they would take away industry from the losing nation or state. For this reason, it can be seen how the term developed a negative connotation. The term grew tremendously in usage around the 1970s, when factories began to downsize what would become known as the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Religion Should Be Taught In Schools Schools throughout the country are having trouble creating an equal atmosphere in relation to religion. There have been many issues with regard to children being bullied and/or not permitted to wear religious items. The First Amendment of the Constitution enables students to practice their religion, but if the students show their religion they will not be accepted. Schools should change their regulations, therefore allowing students to wear religious apparel, take action (pray, etc), and eat school food without worrying about the food not being a part of their religion. In the real world, everyone has the freedom of choice to live as they wish. Before the students get to experience the real world, they spend their childhoods growing up in and around schools. It would be best if they grew up knowing that their culture/religion will be accepted. However, at this point in time, many who are displaying their beliefs openly, are getting in trouble with school authorities. An example of this would be in California, where a seventh grade student, by the name of Raymond, was suspended for wearing his rosary beads. Raymond told the following to the news: They [school authorities] told me that if I didn t tuck them in my shirt then I would have to go ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The subject in the painting was Francesco del Gioconda s wife, and it took four years for Leonardo to paint. The Mona Lisa painting depicts a woman seated in front of a vast mountainous landscape with a mysterious smile and aura. The eyes have a luster and watery sheen, as well as the skin, has shades and tints. The nose and eyebrows are shaped with such precision that only a master painter can capture. Many spectators that look at the Mona Lisa claim that they see a beating pulse in her throat. I believe Leonardo Da Vinci created this piece to show the Renaissance period at its peak. When the public eye saw this piece they said it was an epic demonstration of the naturalism at that time. The Mona Lisa was a glorious representation of the talent that humans possessed. It made the people think and it benefitted people s minds because the painting left people asking questions. This painting was created during a very excellent time for art, and since the Mona Lisa was debatably the best painting of that time, that made the painting very famous. The Mona Lisa was one of the most 1 glorious works of the naturalism period and the Renaissance. • 6. The Meno Dialogue By Socrates At the outset of the Meno dialogue, Meno asks Socrates, [...] can virtue be taught? Or is it not teachable but the result of practice, or is it neither of these, but men possess it by nature or in some other way? 70a. Meno is asking Socrates how one can acquire virtue, and these four questions offer paths of investigation. What are the paths and how are they dealt with? The first, can virtue be taught this is the main path taken up for investigation of virtue. Second result of practice it doesn t seem as though this path is dealt with (one could ask why it is that this isn t taken up, could it have to do with Meno as Socrates foil?). Third by nature this path is rejected a few times, 89b, 98d, 99e. Fourth some other way this open ended option seems as though it might offer a solution at the end of the dialogue (in the form of divinity). However, before Socrates enters into Meno s initial question, there is a more important question that needs turning over. What is virtue? I have sequestered my discussion on Socrates investigation of what virtue is to an end note in order to stay under the word limit, for the present purpose it is only important to say that Socrates and Meno can t find a clear definition of virtue, but Meno pushes Socrates to investigate the aforementioned questions about the acquisition of virtue regardless. Socrates does so despite the fact that the two don t know exactly or clearly what virtue is. We can now follow the paths or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Life Orientation Line Dancing Portfolio Mark Craig 12 2 Life Orientation Line Dancing Portfolio 10 August 2015 Section B: Definition: a type of country and western dancing in which dancers line up in a row without partners and follow a choreographed pattern of steps to music. History: Line dancing originated before Christ and it originated from another kind of dance called Contra dancing which was done in the New England states in the early 1800s. The Contra was set up in such a way that there would be two lines facing each other one line would be men and the other line would be woman. A couple would then step into the middle and do their own routine down the line and then the next couple would come forward and so on and so forth. Skills: 1. Count to the beat of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the strengths that I realized while dancing was that I have a good ear for hearing the beat of the music and find it easy to keep to the rhythm of the dance. I also found it easy to remember the steps and the order of the steps. I struggled with the technicalities of certain steps. In the beginning I also struggled with the enthusiasm that was needed in the dance due to a lack of confidence but this enthusiasm increased as my confidence with the dance increased. I enjoyed learning choreography and dancing in time to the music but I did not enjoy how some people were singled out and forced to dance in front of the entire class. Line dancing was very beneficial not only physically but it also teaches a lot of life lessons that cannot be learned anywhere else such as discipline and to respect and appreciate women. I would participate in further line dancing activities because it is a good opportunity to get to know new people and become involved in new thing and learn new skills. Line dancing can improve confidence and self esteem so I would therefore do it again if I was struggling with these things. I personally highly enjoyed going to the line dancing lessons as it was a way for me to escape from the busy life of a matric student. • 9. Essay On Crowd Out Article Assessment Analyzing Two Peer Reviewed Journal Articles on the Implications of Medicaid Expansion on Rates of Crowd Out. The expansion of Medicaid in the United States has often been denounced due to fear of crowd out. Crowd out studies have been investigated since the 1990s. Data vary from study to study with some showing no significant evidence of crowd out to some showing up to 50% (Muhlestein, 2013). Crowd out occurs when people choose to drop their private insurance plan in favor of enrolling in the public plan. It can also occur if public program members refuse to use private plans available or if an employer reduces coverage based on public program availability. Rates of crowd out are subject to change due to the changing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The purpose of this was to look at proportions of children who have private insurance within the Medicaid eligibility threshold. After conducting the study, researchers found significant differences in crowd out levels between states with varying eligibility thresholds. Due to the varying levels of crowd out found in the analysis, researchers also stated that studies of national crowd out rates should be disregarded. It was found that 3% of Medicaid eligible children in families with income 250% of Federal Poverty Level (FPL) and 6% of those in Medicaid eligible families with income 200% of FPL were found to be subject to crowd out. It was found that no children in families with income 300% of FPL would be crowded out. The RD method does not allow an overall crowd out estimate, so it is limited to localized estimates based on the eligibility threshold. Therefore, it often misses those beyond the eligibility threshold who are crowded out. However, it allows for steady enrollment analysis long after the expansion occurs. Evidence of significant crowd out is likely influenced by differing methods of managing the Medicaid population and policies put in place to prevent crowd out. It was also found that crowd out effects decrease as the eligibility threshold increases because wealthier families within the range of eligibility for Medicaid are less likely to switch from private to public ... Its second installment, Crown of Midnight, follows Celaena as she spars with her loyalty. One grievous night forces her to choose allies and foes. To emphasize the focal idea, Maas utilizes themes of rebellion, oppression, and death. First and foremost, a crucial theme embedded is rebellion. The King of Adarlan is recognized as a megalomaniac, from his own son to the prisoners in Callaculla. He is on a quest to conquer all of Erilea. But in order to do so, he is in need of somebody to do all of his dirty work, and that is when Celaena comes into the light. Her task is to kill the King s enemies. Conversely, she disobeys direct orders. I haven t killed any of the people the king commanded me to assassinate (184). When she consults it with her friend Chaol, he is livid. If the king finds out, he will force Chaol to kill Celaena as punishment for being her friend. Chaol attempts to talk sense into Celaena by calling those men traitors to the crown. • 15. Summary Of Slouching Toward Bethlehem By Joan Didion Los Angeles possesses the characteristics of great fame and fortune as well as immense homelessness and poverty. Often times, young people are misled by the financial success of some and assume that is typical of city people. Writers Joan Didion and Carol Muske Dukes characterize the realization that an adolescent s lifestyle is not suitable for the demands of a city as signaling the dawn of the apocalypse. In the essay, Slouching Towards Bethlehem, Didion highlights how the failure of society is brought about by a family s inability to fulfill traditional roles and a lack of education as exemplified during the Hippie movement. While poet Muske Dukes utilizes gothic language and allusion to illustrate the notion of an apocalypse in the poem Like This . In the essay Slouching Towards Bethlehem , the author parallels the destruction of society to the weakening of traditional family practices in an effort to demonstrate how apocalypse escalates in a city. Didion begins her essay by describing notions of apocalypse in the form of bankruptcy notices...casual killings and misplaced children and abandoned homes (84). While these actions do not appear to target a specific group, in every case families receive the most set back. Families play an essential role in preparing future generations to become working members of society. Until the age of eighteen, a child is reliant upon their parents to supply adequate shelter, food, water, and access to education. Traditionally, parents are responsible for guiding their children by communicating certain values or morals to them. Didion emphasizes this aspect of childhood in her reflection on how parents do not teach children, and will never learn the games that had held the society together (84). Before a child is capable of formulating their own opinions, they look to their parents for guidance on matters they cannot fully understand. As a child advances their education, they become more aware of how to interpret their surroundings and will eventually cease to rely on the others opinions. Human behavior, parenting, and education expert Dr. Gail Gross discusses the importance of parental figures by noting how our interactions with our parents form the crucible for our ... Odysseus and Penelope Essay Odysseus and Penelope Odysseus and Penelope are the best two example of what it really means to be human because of their great courage to overcome all obstacles for a greater cause. There is not one true definition on what it means to be human, but the most knowledgeable definition of human is to be created in the image of God. The attributes that really set humans apart from all the other animals on earth are imagination, reason, and will. These three human faculties make us who we are because we have the ability to counter plate our own mortality. Dr. Davis stated, You cannot love another person without imagination You have to first realize what their desires are and what they want in life. The most critical aspect of ... Calypso confronts him with this statement, But if you only knew, down deep, what pains are fated to fill your cup before you reach that shore, you d stay right here, preside in our house with me and be immortal. She promised him that he would possess a trait that no other human in the odyssey has, immortality. Even though her offers are very tempting and would be self fulfilling, he promptly rejects because all he wants is to go home and the love of his life, Penelope. This act alone shows that he was willing to give himself and up for a greater cause. He showed great discipline and faithfulness to reject Calypso s offer and to continue on his journey home. At the beginning of the epic, Odysseus did have one flaw that could have been detrimental to his homecoming journey and that was self glorification. By the end of the Odyssey, Odysseus overcame his pride and tempered it with patience because at the end of the day he didn t really know that Penelope would be waiting on him, but he was willing to put in the effort to find out what was at the end of the road. Penelope, just as Odysseus, portrayed the great human trait of patience. She did what it took to fend off the suitors with hope that her husband would come back for her. • 29. Essay on Baddeley and Hitch’s Working Memory Model This essay addresses the working memory model which was proposed by Baddeley and Hitch (1974 in Smith Kosslyn, 2007) as a response to Atkinson and Shiffrins (1968 in Smith, 2007) multi store model. According to Baddely and Hitch the multi store model failed to explain most of the complexities of the human memory and viewed it as being too simplistic. They argued that the short term memory store must have more components rather it being a single inflexible store as suggested previously by Atkinson and Shiffrin (1968). The working memory model is therefore an enhancement of the multi store model. According to Baddeley and Hitch working memory is a limited capacity system that stores and processes information. According to Baddeley and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is interpreted as because the capacity of the phonological loop is limited in time (in Smith, 2007). Further evidence for the existence of the phonological loop comes from Conrads and Hulls (1975 in Passer, 2009) experiment in which they examined the effect of phonological similarity. They found that serial recall in a list of similar sounding words tended to yield poorer results with participants finding it difficult to remember compared to words that sounded different. It has also been found that recall in semantically similar words tended to have little or no effect, supporting the idea that verbal information is transferred in a phonological manner in working memory. In addition, Vallar and Papagno (1995 in Smith, 2007) found that the phonological store in brain damaged patients were dysfunctional. Moreover, Hardyk and Petrinovich (1970 in Parkin, 1993) found the articulatory loop to be crucial when being presented with complex information. In their study they measured participants throat muscle and forearm muscle activity although some may argue that this was not a good technique to carry out. Their findings led to them conclude that when participants were presented with complex material their articulatory loop would come in to function (in Parkin, 1993). In addition, memory span tasks support the existence of the articulatory loop showing that task ability heavily depends on a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Crime Statistics Do Not Reflect True Crime Rates Essay Crime statistics are not what we are led to believe. We hear a lot about the crime rates going up and down from the media and they tend to expand on specific types of criminal behavior that might be of interest to the public. When politicians are running for office we are told that the crime rates are down due to the tough crime policies that they have been implemented. Citizens seek crime rates for assistance in determining if the area they reside in is safe. Some people wish to get a general idea of the crime rates for a specific neighborhood where they are thinking of purchasing a house. By police agencies using this form of statistical classifying, there is a major loss in the data of the lower crimes on the scale. A complete total of certain crimes are not included in the statistics creating several inaccuracies in the totals. The UCR policy does not require all crimes to be reported to the state. Violations of the General City Ordinance and Vehicle and Traffic Law are considered too low for the hierarchy scale. These types of crimes are never included in the monthly submission and we generally never hear about them. Since crime statistics begin at the forefront of the police department, the police officer, this leaves a lot of room for unreliability. Police officers create crime data by completing and submitting crime reports and arrest reports. These reports include all of the pertinent information necessary for the committed crime(s) for a specific incident. There are times when police officers fail to complete written reports of certain crimes or they downgrade the offense of a report to a less serious offense. Meanwhile, some police reports are over rated in the seriousness of certain offenses. At the end of each officer s shift the reports and arrest records are submitted to the appropriate unit or division of occurrence. Within a day or two these records are then transferred to a central records department and maintained at this location. During the transfer from one unit to another these records ... • 32. The Impact Of Reality Television And Its Impact On Society Reality television is an addicting phenomenon that graces millions of televisions daily. From shows like Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Life of Kylie, and Love and Hip Hop to series like My Strange Addiction, Hoarders, and My 600 lb Life, reality TV has left its mark and impacted today s society in more ways than one. It has slithered into mass media to dominate lives and focus on real events or situations that have long term effects on its viewers. This brand of television serves as a reflection of society and often exploits its participants if not glamorizes a certain lifestyle that may seem unattainable to its viewers. For example, the Kardashians represent success and the achievement of the American dream that, to many, is elusive. Through the dramatization of mental illness, Hoarders exploits its viewers and reinforces the perception of these people as outsiders which lead to further marginalization and hiding of hoarding behavior. Shows that look down on and criticize certain lifestyles, such as Hoarders, function as a cautionary story and is put out to the public as a warning of how not to live. Lifestyle themed programs are also connected to broader campaigns, orchestrated by private and public partners to promote desired behaviors such as delayed parenting and healthy eating (Oullette). With this program, A E tends to sensationalize these people and sends the message to its audience that this behavior is monstrous and should be avoided at all costs. A E chooses to dramatize the manifestation of hoarding as opposed to using the platform to get to the root of hoarding for both the viewers and the hoarders themselves. Although some episodes are less offensive than others, Hoarders exploits its subjects and interferes with the viewer s potential for empathy. The ordinary celebrity promised by television, and the incitement to perform the real for ratings, accentuates these possibilities and constraints, and raises important questions about whether ordinary people are empowered or exploited through nonfiction and reality programming (Oullette). Instead of encouraging proper treatment it presents hoarding as something that is impossible to relate to and rather than sympathize, viewers are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Soil Pollution Presently, most cars run on gasoline and thus gas stations are vital to our everyday life. In urban cities, gas stations are found in just about every other corner. It has already been documented that burning gasoline produces toxic fumes that contributes to air pollution, global warming, and many health concerns. Soil surrounding a gas station can also be contaminated with gasoline and generate soil pollution. In comparison with air, soil is more complex in composition and function. It functions as a sink for pollutants, as a filter which delays the passage of chemicals to groundwater, and as a bioreactor for organic life. Just as gas is a source of fuel for cars, soil is an essential component of the earth s ecosystem. It serves as a home to many microbes and provides the necessary nutrients to plants that dwell in it. The pondus hyrdogenii (pH) indicates a solution s acidity and alkalinity. A pH value of 7 is considered neutral. A solution with a pH between 0 to 7 is acid and one between 7 to 14 is alkaline. Most biological organisms including plants have a very narrow range of pH values in which environmental substrates can survive. Plants prefer acidic substances. This leads to the following questions: Are gas stations in El Paso, Texas a contributing factor to soil contamination? Do Gas Stations Cause Soil Contamination? Soil around the world is a habitat for numerous plants and animals. However, every day, certain patches of soil are perhaps being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Almost all developed countries are involved in Foreign Direct Investment processes, both in the form of outward and inward FDI. Among those developed countries there is the case of Japan that is different; Japanese attitude towards FDI has always been, in fact, very cautious. One one hand, Japanese outward foreign investment and exports have played a fundamental role in the postwar period of economic rise; on the other hand, the accesses to the domestic market by foreign investors, the so called Inward FDI, has been very limited. (Suginohara, 2008). From 1960, with the approval by the government of the Basic Plan for Liberalization of Trade and Foreign Exchange, a major number of sectors was liberalized; Japan subsequently liberalized imports, capital transactions and financial sector. Starting from the second half of the 1960s Inward and outward FDI were liberalized step by step, and in May 1972 the possession of foreign currency by residents was liberalized. In December 1980 the Foreign Capital Law was incorporated to the Foreign Exchange Law. This revised law was aimed to liberalize capital account transactions (Aramaki, 2006). The revision of the Foreign Exchange Law permitted the creation of a large number of foreign owned companies and a consequent phenomenal growth of FDI in the manufacturing sector (from 1,092 millions $ in 1976 1980 to 2,359 millions $ in 1981 1985 and 7,092 millions $ between 1986 and 1990) .
