Rose For Emily Setting
And now Miss Emily had gone to join the representatives of those august names where they lay in
the cedar bemused cemetery among the ranked and anonymous graves of Union and Confederate
soldiers who fell at the battle of Jefferson. (Faulkner 82). William Faulkner utilizes a fictional
southern town in the post Civil War era as the setting for the short story, A Rose For Emily . The
entire story is steeped in the ideals of characters relying heavily upon the setting, time and place.
The post Civil War southern setting, particularly the ideals of each character in A Rose For
Emily must be continually considered by the reader in order to properly interpret the story. The
first character to consider is Miss Emily herself, a southern belle perennially existing in the days
of plantation houses and family prestige. Emily remains the same throughout the story refusing
to accept a changing world. Emily refuses to pay taxes solely upon the basis of an old agreement
with a dead man exemplifying a lack of social evolution, I have no taxes in Jefferson. Colonel
Sartoris explained it to me. Perhaps one of you can gain access to the city records and satisfy

social security Essay
In reading the book Social Security and the Family I learned a lot about the system that I had no
idea about before. The book was fact filled and almost fun to read the need to know information.
I gained much knowledge in the specifics of why the social security system is in need of reform,
and why it will be inadequate in the years to come. One of the reasons our social security systemisn
t working is because, Social Securitywas modeled on the single earner, marriedcouple family (1).
Times have changed dramatically since then.
When assessing the issues and current structure of the security system for change,

This absolutely violates the principle of horizontal equity. The fourth and final objective
discussed is efficiency, which translates into trying to achieve the greatest good for lowest cost.
One measure of efficiency is whether the effect of additional earnings on lifetime benefits of a
couple is the same when only on spouse works and when both spouses work (182). This also
stems back into our class discussions in the subject of economic efficiency and how being most
efficient when the consumer (Social Security beneficiary) and the producer (Social Security
system funds) are both at a surplus. Before reading the books I never anticipated being able to
connect it to the Public Policy class so readily. More importantly these policies mustn t be
overlooked .
The central argument of the book is to solve the problem of insufficient funds. Our system now is

Nick Carraway Mature In The Great Gatsby
In The Great Gatsby written by Scott F Fitzgerald, we meet a plethora of characters all
displaying traits of one who has not matured yet. The Great Gatsby follows the story of a man
who is infatuated with a reckless woman and the drama that follows. Nick Carraway is our
narrator and one of the main characters, he spends much of his time observing the mistakes and
everyday lives of the other characters. Even though he is an adult, Nick does grow in maturity and
insight throughout the course of the novel as he is drawn into a lifestyle completely foreign to him.
Nick is, in fact, the only dynamic character in the novel. He introduces us to the others, through his
clear and unbiased view on things.

Gatsbys inability to distinguish dreams from reality is what makes him adolescent. His ignorance
drives him to confrontation which ends him up dead. Jay Gatsby is the embodiment of the
American Dream. He is shown to us in all his immature romanticism, which includes an insecure
grasp of social and human values, a lack of cultural intelligence and self knowledge, a blindness to
the pitfalls that surround him. All of these things are results of his compulsive optimism and
idealism. His immature ideals cannot be sustained in reality. As Nick tells us, there are only the
pursued, the pursuing, the busy, and the tired . Ultimately, disappointed in love and bereft of real
friends, Gatsby grows tired of being both pursued and pursuing (i.e. Daisy). His adolescent ideals

Sea World Empty The Sea Essay
*Sea World: Empty the Tanks SeaWorld had stated that they haven t captured any orcas since 1982.
This is because of their ground breaking reproduction research programme .
Since the opening at SeaWorld in 1959 they have imprisoned and exploited one hundred and
eighty six orcas. Sixty three orcas have died at the parks and a further 30 have been miscarried or
still born. SeaWorld now currently holds 23 orcas in its three parks in the United Statesand a
further 6 at Loro Parque in Spain. A small amount of orcas at SeaWorld were born in the wild, but
the vast majority of the orcas are bred in captivity by the company. In captivity the opportunity to

SeaWorld are destroying orcas lives and effecting every aspect of their natural instincts. While
destroying the orcas they are also lying to the public and covering up all the signs of bad health of
the orcas.
At SeaWorld captivity has a massive effect on the physical side of orcas. Due to the shallow
depths of the tanks and the lack of sun protection and crystal clear water, the orcas are often
exposed to blistering heat giving them perpetual sunburn. To hide and cover this from the public
SeaWorld apply black zinc oxide to the burns as it matches their skin colour. Even though black
zinc oxide minimalizes light reflection it is almost always only applied to the orcas once they
have already conceived the burns and should not be used on their skin. According to The Dodo , a
former SeaWorld trainer told them that the animal s skin was usually burned or blistered before
the application of the black zinc oxide . This suggest that SeaWorld cares more about their income
and the view they have to the public than the orcas health and well being.
In captivity 100% of male orcas have collapsed dorsal fin, this also occurs in female orcas but not
as often. There are many potential causes to this which include dehydration, reduced activity and
stress. Dehydration and overheating of fin tissue is due to the warm water and air

Human Dissection Essay
Though dissections have been occurring since humans first began seeking knowledge, it has often
been done in secret. Among them (means of obtaining human subjects for dissection) are the
bodies of the executed, bodies stolen from graveyards, unclaimed bodies from poorhouses,
hospitals and prisons, the bodies of suicides or duelists, and the bodies of persons murdered for the
purpose of dissection(Hildebrandt p.2). These unconventional means were necessary until in the
late 13th century and early 14th century Europe, dissection of the bodies of executed criminals
was legalized (Perloff p. 6) but there has been a long standing opposition of the church to human
dissections, especially the Roman empire. As per research of Mary Niven Alston,... Show more

Explain How Animals Survive In Their Environment
What animals do to survive in their ` environment Clunk, clunk, clunk, goes the beaver, as it
makes its home using twigs and branches, for its survival. Just like the beaver many animals use
the place they live for their survival. For example the bald eagle uses advantage of the trees and
builds massive nest there These facts are clearly shown in source #1 when the author writes when

Alexander Hamilton And The Democratic-Republicans
Two rival political parties, the Federalists and the Democratic Republicans, first transpired in the
United States government in the eighteenth century Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson
leading each. Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson were key figures in the development of
the United States of America into what the country is today. Each figure leading their political party
battled one another for political control. While both public figures left a lasting impact on the
nation, Hamilton and Jefferson contrasted one another when interpreting the Constitution,
assigning government authority, implementing economic policies, and creating foreign policy.
During the early years of establishing the United States, the role of the national government was a
major controversial issue. Highly differing views of the Constitution, economic policies, and
foreign affairs caused two major political parties to emerge the Federalists in 1789 and the
Democratic Republicans following three years after. The two political parties caused a great divide
among America. Alexander Hamilton was the founder of the Federalist Party, while Thomas...

authority of power. He distrusted the common man and Americans ability to rule themselves.

Background Information
Iodine is an indicator for starch. When iodine is merged with starch, it turns a dark purple/black
color.
Cells require nutrients in order to survive.
Cells must eliminate waste in order to survive.
Description of the Experiment
This experiment was done to provide evidence for why cells are so small. Basically, we pretended
that each potato cube used was a single cell and the iodine is the nutrients (food) for the cell.
Expectations/Hypothesis of the Experimental Outcome
I think that the smallest potato cube will have the nutrients (iodine) diffuse the farthest. The

Lab 3 Observing Osmosis in Living Cells:
Introduction
Background Information
Living cells may be thought of as microscopically small bags of solutions contained within
semipermeable membranes. For the cell to survive, the concentration of solutes within the cell must
stay within a safe range.
A cell placed in a solution more concentrated than itself (a hypertonic solution) will shrink due to
loss of water, and may die of dehydration. A cell placed in a solution more dilute than itself (a
hypotonic solution) will expand as water enters it. Under such conditions the cell may burst.
A cell placed in a solution that is in equilibrium (an isotonic solution) will remain the same and no
water will enter nor leave the cell.
Description of the Experiment
This experiment was conducted to observe the effect of a certain amount of sucrose in a solution
on white potato cylinders. About five or six pieces of potato went into six different solutions that
were in increments of 2 m and were labeled by color. The point of this experiment was to see
which solutions were hypertonic, hypotonic, or isotonic to a piece of potato.
Expectations/Hypothesis of the Experimental Outcome
I think that the potatoes with no change will be in an isotonic solution, the potatoes in a hypertonic
solution will shrink, and the

The History of Titile IX Essay
The History of Titile IX
Sex. That one little word has led to a mini revolution in all aspects of a girl s education, from
Kindergarten to Graduate School, all across the nation. In 1972, Title IX was adopted as the
landmark legislation for prohibition of gender discrimination in schools, and was signed into law,
by President Richard Nixon, on June 23. This legislation encompasses both academics and athletics.
Title IX reads: No person in the U.S. shall, on the basis of sex be excluded from participation in, or
denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any educational program or activity
receiving federal aid. Since 1972, many attempts have been made to alter the appearance and effect
of Title IX.

Finally, in 1980, when the Department of Education was established, they were given Title IX to
oversee through the Office of Civil Rights. [1] Through all of this, the goal of Title IX has been
and is,
to ensure that Federal funds are not utilized for and do not support sex based discrimination, and
that individuals have equal opportunities, without regard to sex, to pursue, engage or participate in,
and benefit from academic, extracurricular, research, occupational training, employment, or other
educational programs or activities. [2]
Despite the 1975 regulations schools and courts still debated whether the language of Title IX
itself included their athletic departments at all. At issue was the Title IX, В§ 1681(a), phrase
dealing with funding: sex based discrimination in any education program or activity receiving
Federal financial assistance violated Title IX. [3] Depending on whether a party was fighting for
or against gender equity compliance under Title IX in the athletics area, that party argued for,
respectively, an institution wide or program specific view of this phrase. Supporters of the latter
view argued that Title IX forbade gender discrimination only in those specific programs or
activities receiving direct federal funding. Thus, if an athletic program did not receive any direct
federal funding, the regulations and compliance guidelines of Title IX did not apply to it. As seen in

Effective Use Of Irony In Oedipus The King
Oedipus the King is destined to be a hero, king, leader for the people of Thebes, but his greed gets
the best of him. He thought that nothing could ever happen to him, that none of the prophecies
could ever come true. Later on in the story he was told that his dad had died of old age, instead of
grief he triumphed knowing that the prophecy that he would kill his father didn t come true. In the
story OedipusThe King, there are three forms of irony used in the play, situational, dramatic, and
verbal, they all play into the fall of Oedipus the King.
Oedipus quests to lift the plague that haunts over their city. An example of situational is ` not only
to find out he needs to track down an assassin, who turns out to be himself is an example of
situational. It is no secret. Apollo once prophesied that I would lie with my own mother and with

King Oedipus, as he shows no respect or morals and doesn t act like a King when his fate is on
the line. We also can foreshadow what is going to happen based on the Chorus on page 703,
That man will lose his empty dreams in the whirlwind of god s fire. Greed will cut him down.
This is given us before the story takes place, we can tell that even Oedipus takes any action, he
will fall. From the start everyone suspects it to be Oedipus, but Oedipus, he thinks he is

This diet tries to promote weight loss and healthy living by cutting out the carbohydrates (sugars,
for the most part) from their foods. Unfortunately for Krispy Kreme, their product offering is
mostly doughnuts, all of which are high in carbohydrates, and therefore on the blacklist of many
Americans. In fact, as Americans become smarter about their health and their food choices, we can
expect doughnut sales across America to drop with time.
Loss of the niche aspect of the product
As Krispy Kreme rapidly expands by opening up new stores and franchises, the supply of their
doughnuts has increased dramatically. Krispy Kreme s doughnuts used to be in very high demand,
in our opinion because of the scarcity of the product: knowing that you can t have the product any
time, any where, made it more desirable. Now that Krispy Kreme locations are more accessible, as
well as the doughnuts being sold across grocery and convenience stores nation wide, the product
has become more of a commodity rather than the niche product it once was.

Krispy Kreme s product mix constitutes of two things: doughnuts and coffee. This leaves the
company very exposed to changes in market demand that can be caused for example, by new and
existing diets. The competition on the other hand,

Successful Find Sociology
For this class I chose the title, Working with Others for a Successful Find. In archeology there
are many steps a person must take in order to have a successful find. A successful find is not just
when you find an object in the dirt or ground, it is when you find an object and find new
information about the past. The only way to know about the past is to talk to someone who
would know what that object is. This can be a historian, fellow colleague, and especially a
descendant of who the object belongs to. An example in which I am referring to when I say a
descendant of who the object belongs to, is like when Janet D. Spector talks to Carrie Schommer
and Chris Cavendar about the Dakota people. These two individuals are descendants of... Show

In these groups they would have to act out the part as if they were either Native Americans, the
archeologists, or the state/country officials. The last group would be the jury members and I
would be the judge. Once I assigned them to a specific group they would have a short time to
discuss with one another the argument that they would make. They would be arguing against one
another that they should have the objects that were found. First each group would give their
opening argument. After each group finished that then they would have an open floor in which
they would be able to debate each other. Once they were finished debating and each group made
their closing remarks then the jury would go and deliberate to determine who gets the objects.
When the jury returns I would read aloud the decision. The group who made the best argument
will win a prize. Their prize will be all of the artifacts that were found from the first assignment.
This second assignment ties back in with the first theme as well because it requires the students to
work with one another in order to be successful and win the debate. So overall my class would be
all about the students working with one another to achieve success as well as trying to determine
who would receive the artifacts that are found in Native American lands. At the end of my class

Purpose of the Declaration of Independence
Rights of the People
A democracy is a system of government controlled by the people, not by one certain group or
individual. In the Declaration of Independence it states that all men are created equal, an idea which
leads to the concept that all citizens should have the same rights, responsibilities, and influence in
the governing of their country. In writing the Declaration of Independence Thomas Jefferson was
trying to break his ties with the harsh and non democratic rule of the British and begin a new, equal
society and government for America.
Democracy is defined as A system of government in which ultimate political authorityis vested in

He believed that it was time for America to break away from Britain s rule and become its own
nation, which could govern itself. To do this, though, it was necessary to write some sort of
document which would state to the world the basic beliefs on which the nation s new government
would be built. This document was the Declaration of Independence. Jefferson felt that Britain was
doing nothing but hurting America with unfair rules and all sorts of ridiculous taxes. The colonies
and colonists had no rights in determining the very laws which dictated the way they led their lives.
The Declaration of Independence was a formal document stating that the people of America were

The Declaration of Independence was the cornerstone of American freedom and equality. By

the concept of equality was more limited than it is today. Certainly, all members of colonial
America did not share equal status. However the concepts of the Declaration of Independence have

How The 21st Century Defines Corporate Social...
Introduction
The objective of this research paper is to describe how the 21St Century defines corporate social
responsibility in relation with the triple bottom line concept, guiding the airline industry into
becoming a forward thinking industry embedding sustainability into their core of business
operations to create shared value for business and society. I will define corporate social
responsibility and areas of social responsibility in the airline industry at the beginning of the paper
and proceed with how it ties into the bottom line concept. Next, I will give brief examples of
airlines such as JetBlue Airways, and British Airways how they apply these concepts into their
mission. In conclusion, I will express my own thoughts about how customers and employees have
more choices from the industries than they had in the past. They are more aware of the ethical and
environmental stance of todays industries.
Corporate Social Responsibility (CRM)
Corporate social responsibility (CSR) refers to business practices involving initiatives that benefit
society (Businessnewsdailycom, 2016). CSR may also be referred to as corporate citizenship and
can involve incurring short term cost that do not provide an immediate financial benefit to the
company, but instead promote positive social and environmental change (Root, 2007).
The airline industries faces many responsibilities. The airline industry rely heavily on it s decision
making process due to its major concern, which is

Health Care Reform Essay
From FDR s New Deal to Lyndon Johnson s Great Society, the United States government has
attempted to centralize extensive social policies. In the early eighties, when recession and inflation
were at a high, Ronald Reagan took office and pronounced that the federal government needed to
take a lesser role in the lives of the American people. As Theda Skocpol comments in her book
Boomerang: Clinton s Health Security Effort and the Turn Against Government in U.S. Politics, the
Reagan administrationinstilled a dislike of centralized government in the American people. This was
a major reason, according to Skocpol, why the Clinton Administration failed to nationalize Health
Security . It was this fear of centralized government and Clinton s... Show more content on

The predominantly white bourgeoisie saw such reforms as a financial threat. The civil rights act
of 1964 was a distant promise to the underprivileged for a better way of living. The American
people were not willing to give up some of their money so that the more unfortunate could a have a
better way of living. The reaction to The Great Society conveyed the American public s
unwillingness to sacrifice their economic security for the unfortunate. The federal government
would not take a bigger role.
In the eighties Ronald Reagan came into power and instilled an intense fear of big government into
the American people. As Theda Skocpol says ...debt and disillusionment with the federal
government were growing before the 1980s. But the republican ascendancy of that decade
exploded the deficit and deliberately encouraged cynicism about public efforts to address national
problems. The Reagan administration worked to cut taxes and spending on what was called
wasteful government programs. The democrats, who in the Congressional majority, attempted to
maintain the programs that already existed. Yet the republican forces would eventually starve the
existing programs in order to cut the federal budget. Twelve years after Reagan and Bush took
office the annual deficit rose from 59 billion in 1980 to 300 billion in 1992 and the national debt
rose from 914 billion

Designing An Interactive Model For Finding The Optimal...
Abstract
The motivation behind this paper is to propose a new approach called objective factorizable
approach based on a decomposition algorithm in an interactive model for finding the optimal
solution to multi level large scale quadratic programming problem (MLLSQPP), in which the
objective function can be factorized into two single linear objective functions and has block
angular structure of the constraints. What s more, the author advances the concepts of
satisfactoriness as the upper level decision makers preferences until the preferred solution is come
to. The bi section method is suggested as an essential solution method to assess these upper level
decision makers preferences precisely. Finally, in order to exhibit the proficiency of the proposed
model, an illustrative example is provided.
Keywords
Decomposition algorithm; multilevel programming; large scale problem; quadratic programming;
bisection method.
1.Introduction
Multi Level Programming (MLP) problems are an arrangement of overlapped hierarchical
optimization problems with numerous decision makers (DMs) over a solitary feasible region.
MLP techniques relegate each DM a unique objective, a set of decision variables, and a set of
common constraints that influence all DMs. DMs make decision in turn or meanwhile to optimize
their objective functions. [1, 2, 3, 4]
The vast majority of the optimization problems emerging in real world applications incorporate vast
numbers of variables and constraints, which

them to live in the garden of Eden with no worries. They would have all of the food they needed
to eat provided for them by God. there was only one condition, they were not to eat from the tree of

Gang Of Four Design Pattern Analysis
Gang of Four Design Patterns
This section gives a high level description of the twenty three design patterns described by the
Gang of Four. Each pattern description includes a link to a more detailed article describing the
design pattern and including a UML diagram, template source code and a real world example
programmed using C#.
Creational Patterns
The first type of design pattern is the creational pattern. Creational patterns provide ways to
instantiate single objects or groups of related objects. There are five such patterns:
Abstract Factory. The abstract factory pattern is used to provide a client with a set of related or
dependant objects. The family of objects created by the factory are determined at run time.
Builder. The builder pattern is used to create complex objects with constituent ... Show more content

The singleton pattern ensures that only one object of a particular class is ever created. All further
references to objects of the singleton class refer to the same underlying instance.
Structural Patterns
The second type of design pattern is the structural pattern. Structural patterns provide a manner to
define relationships between classes or objects.
Adapter. The adapter pattern is used to provide a link between two otherwise incompatible types by
wrapping the adaptee with a class that supports the interface required by the client.
Bridge. The bridge pattern is used to separate the abstract elements of a class from the
implementation details, providing the means to replace the implementation details without
modifying the abstraction.
Composite. The composite pattern is used to create hierarchical, recursive tree structures of related
objects where any element of the structure may be accessed and utilised in a standard manner.
Decorator. The decorator pattern is used to extend or alter the functionality of objects at run time
by wrapping them in an object of a decorator class. This provides a flexible alternative to using
inheritance to modify

(f) Assess the view that schools and what takes place within them are the main causes of social class
difference in educational achievement.
The above question is telling us that school and the education system are what cause social class.
Social class is where people have similar positions usually measures by education, occupation and
income. In my essay will include sociological evidence and theories exploring if social class is due
to schools and what goes on in them.
The first piece of evidence we can use to support the above statement is a Marxist point of view
about education. Bowles and Gintis (71) argue that meritocracy (your social position is based on
your effort and ability) is a myth. He believes that the educational system works against the
interests of the working class. Their correspondence theory they argued that there were a
correspondence between the social relationships at school to the social relationships at work. An
example of this is schools and work reward on external principals. In school you get rewarded
with certificates, while in work you are paid a wage. This relates to the question because it shows

Essay on Weapons Used in World War II
World War II is one of the most recognized battles in the history of the world. The battle originated
with Germany s invasion of Poland. This sparked the beginning of the war, though the United
States was not yet involved. The U.S. came into the picture after the attack on Pearl Harbor on the
morning of December 7, 1941. Though Japan was the more direct opponent , the United States
Army Rangers, Marine Corps., and every other branch of military took on Japan and Germany.
Fighting on the Frontlines One of the more famous battles in the war was the Invasion of
Normandy, France by the Allied forces, also known as Operation Overlord . The arriving troops

This weapon was typically on a tripod to steady the bouncing that came with automatic fire. One
of the more unpredictable attacks came from the Arisaka Bolt Action Rifle. Rifles were
recognized in WWII for their long range and accuracy. This gun could be used with or without a
scope. When scoped, range was greatly increased, as the shooter could see farther distances and
put a round down range with precision. Though this wasn t the primary weapon for most of the
soldiers, it was favored by snipers for its precision at long ranges.
Weapons of Destruction
American soldiers were using fairly new weapons compared to previous conflicts. The fully
automatic assault rifle was new addition to the American arsenal. A prime example of the sheer
power and deadliness of an automatic rifle is the M1918BAR (Browning Automatic Rifle). This
gun was the first of it s kind for American forces. Though it was a bit heavy, it had stopping
power. It blasted the .30 06 Springfield round down range at 2,822 f/s. Although the iron sights
weren t all that great, the aperture view did the job quite well for targets that were a little ways
out. Due to the success of this weapon, Browning set out to create a better, stronger version of it
for heavier combat. The M1919 Browning Heavy Machinegun was deployed. This monster of a
gun was usable without a bipod, but heavy and hard to aim without. With a 600 round per minute
rate of fire from a direct feed belt, the Browning was one of the

Pathophysiology Of Asthma
Introduction:
Asthma comes from the Greek meaning of short of breath which the world has come to known as
asthma which is shortness of breath. Henry Hyde Salter was the first person to describe asthma in
which he stated: airways narrow due to contraction of their smooth muscle. William Osler known as
the father of medicine described asthma as a spasm of the bronchial muscles, swelling of the
bronchial mucous membrane, the special form of inflammation of the smaller bronchioles, similar
to hay fever, runs in families, begins in childhood and sometimes lasts into old age, can induce a

The mucous metaplasia is caused by production and storage of mucins increasing in secretory
cells and club cells. MUC5B and MUC5AC are types of bronchial epithelial cells mRNA which
help mucous clearing and protect against airway infection. This has been thought to be a major
player in airway problems in asthma. IL 13 binding causes mucous metaplasia. This is caused by
the binding of IL 13 which leads to Jak kinases activation and then phosphorylation of transducer
and then STAT6. This STAT6 pathway deals with calcium activated chloride channel one which is
also known as CLCA1 and is the gene related to the airway epithelial cells. In asthma, however,
this channel doesn t function as it normal function which is an ion channel but goes through
secretion and cleavage. This channel can induce MUC5AC through MAP kinase MAPk13. The
inflammation aspect of asthma occurs from a cascade of events usually is a type 2 inflammation
dealing with types of CD4+ T cells like Th2 cells. This pathway deals with a lot of mediators that
cause inflammation, IgE, mucosal surfaces, smooth muscles, and mast cells. When the IgE is
created in the body, it is circulated through the bloodstream.

Examples Of Evil In Othello
Pure evil is like a cancerous plague that harms all those who come upon it. In the tragic play
Othello by William Shakespeare, Iago is a character that represents pure evil a malignant cancer to
all those around him. His evil is exposed through his choice of words, his ability to manipulate
people, and his opportunistic ways.
First, Iago s evil is shown through his choice of words that demonstrate his vulgarity and his
sinister intentions. Iago s language is extremely base and forward; he does show any remorse or
sympathy in any situation. For example, Desdemona has recently married Othello; when Desdemona
s father, Brabantio, hears the news he becomes enraged. To make the situation much worse, Iago

An example of his evil imagery is when he says, It is engendered. Hell and night/Must bring this
monstrous birth to the worlds light. (Act 1, sc.iii, lines 396 397). His voracity is seen in this
quote; he calls upon hell and night to give birth to his evil plan. The way he uses the word, hell
and night, associate him with evil which derives from the word devil. Another example that
proves Iago s evil imagery is when he says, Divinity of hell!/When devils will the blackest sins
put on. (Act 2,sc.iii, lines 340 341). In this quote, Iago, once again calls upon hell but this time
describes it as divine. Iago s sinister thoughts are of evil essence because he calls upon the
blackest of sins to aid him in his evil quest. Thus, Iago s choice of words prove his sinister
intentions; which also
include his ability to manipulate people.
Iago s evil is also demonstrated by his ability to manipulate people and situations through his
words and through his actions. The first victim to fall under Iago s manipulative spell is the half
witted Roderigo. Iago recognizes that Roderigo is consumed by lust for Desdemona and would
go to the extremes to make her his own. Iago convinces Roderigo that the only way to win
Desdemona s heart is to give her money; ...Put money in thy purse... (Act 1, sc. iii, line 339).

Collectively, it is not hard to imagine each city state setting themselves up for failure due to their
competitive nature. Competition for power and an increasing need for prosperity lead to Copan s
collapse, and ultimately the Classic Maya civilization as a whole. Secondly, the Roman civilization
had a number of social disputes, which contributed to its collapse. Among those, political
instability emerged as the root cause for its downfall.2 One of the revealing ironies of Rome s
history is that the city state s native democracy withered as its empire grew. (Wright, 90). The
assassination of Julius Caesar fueled existing conflicts further. Self proclaimed emperors after
Caesar s death and the overall political imbalance of the weakening empire lead to war, invasion
and trade disruption. These disturbances created a ripple effect that lead to massive amounts of
crime, increased cases of disease, and widespread famine. Without the social conflicts regarding
political relations, the Roman Empire may not have fallen as extensively. Thirdly, social conflicts
in China marked the end of the Ch in dynasty in 206 B.C. Hungary peasants rebelled against their

individual in society? Can we successfully distinguish ourselves from the majority to make our

ethics and morals? How does your childhood affect you today? How does it affect our subconscious
something we can not control and we do not have access to? Is it possible to go back in time and

Can we trust our instincts to lead us in a personal, unorthodox way? Does it mean that we spend
our life in pursuit of this great task of erasing our past? Is that possible? Does it mean that we
question everything we do in order to make our own choices? Would not that mean we are being
affected directly from the exact thing we desperately need to escape? Would not it be incredibly
easy to rebel against the norm to appear individual? If you rebel against the way of everything else
then you are doing the exact same thing that everyone else is doing. Rebelling does not institute
individualism. There is no environment that would serve the purpose of producing an individual.
Once we use these words environment and producing, we instantly defeat the purpose.
In The Soul s Code by James Hillman he states, The category unshared environment is an

environment that is unshared by it s surroundings is a fallacy. He goes on to state, Even the pillow

What Is Macbeth s Treatment Of Women
Gender inequality has been a dominant and consistent struggle of human culture since its existence.
To this day, women constantly face oppression, unjust treatment, and less opportunities. For
centuries, women have played inferior roles compared to men, especially in marriage. When a man
and a woman would wed, it was understood that the womanwould serve her husband s needs and

Linda and Willy struggle with their financial situation and desire to achieve the American Dream.
When discussing their problems, Willy often interrupts Linda. In Act I, after Biff explains his
plans for a new business, Linda begins that maybe things are beginning to change, but Willy
immediately interrupts with stop interrupting! (jb). Contradictorily, Willy demands Linda to stop
interrupting, as if the blame for the inadequate conversation is her fault. Right when she is
optimistic, she is shot down by her rude and careless husband. Throughout the play, she is often
denied to opportunity to express her emotions and comfort her husband. Willy inarguably enjoys
a position of superiority over Linda, and rarely does Willy convey any genuine affection towards
his wife. Linda, however, cares a lot for him and does her best to offer support, despite such unjust
treatment. When talking to her son, she claims that he s a human being, and a terrible thing is
happening to him....so attention to must be paid (##). Her love for Willy blinds her from the
inequality she experiences in her household. Linda continues to support Willy in his pursuit of his
American Dream, no matter how cruel and arrogant he is. Though he is not favorable in the eyes of
the audience like most other tragedies, he is still the tragic hero. Arthur Miller illustrated the life a

Basketball Dribble Analysis
A good basketball player must be good at dribbling the basketball. A player must know when he
should dribble the ball and when he should not. A player should never over dribble the ball. A
player needs to practice dribbling as often as possible. He must be able to dribble with both hands.
A player will dribble when he wants to move the ball around the court. A player will dribble when
he is advancing the ball toward the hoop. He will dribble when he wants to get in the open to make
a shot. A player will dribble when he is opening up a passing lane so he will have a better chance at
completing a pass. A player uses the dribble to get out of a trap. The dribble is often used at the end
of a game to kill the clock.

A basketball player must spend a lot of time practicing the different types of dribbles.
Before a player practices dribbling, he should do warm ups. First, he can do the hamstring
stretch. The player will dribble with his right hand and cross his right leg over his left leg. He will
bend at his waist and touch the floor using his left hand. He will dribble low and wait, then reverse
position.
The player will do a lower body and a chilies stretch. The player will stand up and dribble waist
high. He will step forward with his right leg and keep his back straight and his left hand on the
ground. He will do a low dribble in front of his right foot keeping the ball low. He will hold this
for an 8 count then stand up. He will now do it with the other leg and hand.
The crossover warm up is the same as the lower body except the player will step forward with his
left leg. When his foot is going to the floor, he will switch hands and keep the dribble low. He will
stand up and cross back.
The through the legs warm up is almost the same as the crossover, but instead of crossing over the
player will put the ball through his legs at shoe top

Witchcraft And The Social History Of Early Modern Europe
With a survey of history, it is evident that our world has encountered a broad range of cultures
throughout time. Each culture is characterized by their own special practices. Bever (2002)
samples one of these practices in his extensive journal on the social history of early modern
Europe. The cultural puzzle that Bever mainly focuses on is witchcraft and its social prevalence
in European history. Before delving into Bever s work, I believe that is is important to reflect
upon Harris s (1989) quote: If you don t think a puzzle has an answer, you ll never find it (p.5). It
is important to apply this idea to culturestudies. Essentially, Harris is saying that if one were to
automatically dub foreign culture practices as insane or assume

A Study On Game Theory
In economics, there are many subfields of study and one that has the most difficulty and importance
is the study of game theory. From the beginning of economics, mathematical concepts and
analyzing people s behavior have been tools to determine the choices people will make in a buyer
and seller market. The most influential person in game theoryis without a doubt John Nash. John
Nash came up with the Nash equilibrium, which is used in everyday Intro to Game Theory courses
across the United States. However, Nash s idea for non cooperative games came about in the mid
20th century, so before then there were many other game theorist who provided their outlook on
how to solve complex games. Furthermore, there are many economist that are... Show more content

Hence, Nash s creation of non cooperative game theory should be looked upon as game theory s
most brilliant idea ever thought of in economics. On the contrary, the father of economics, Adam

space of commodity and allocations , which made him very popular during his time (Myerson).
Also, Adam Smith influenced other economist to apply mathematics to their own theories. The
Nash equilibrium can be a useful tool to conduct an analysis on incentives in social institutions and
also how simplistic the Nash equilibrium can be, and it is obvious to say how astonishing that this
concept was not thought of before John Nash. Moreover, the first application of Nash equilibrium
in a mathematical model comes from Augustin Cournot. In 1838, Cournot published a book on
economics that produced the theory of oligopolistic firms that includes monopolists and perfect
competitors. On a side note, Cournot is known for being the founder of oligopoly theory, but to
give him credit for non cooperative games would be to confuse its methodology with its general
formulation (Morrison). He came up with the oligopoly equilibrium by conducting an analysis on

The Future Of Nursing Campaign For Action
The Future of Nursing The Campaign for Action The Future of Nursing The Campaign for Action
The health care industry is ever changing, requiring the practice of nursing to be continually
transformed. Since nurses are in direct, constant contact with patients, we are in a position to
facilitate change and it is our duty to be proactive in the processes that have a positive effect in
our field. Likewise, it is imperative that nurses be actively involved in education in order to stay
abreast of new evidenced based processes that will result in increased positive outcomes while
elevating patient care. This paper will discuss initiatives set for the Robert Wood Johnson

This nationwide initiative was intended to guide recommendations and implementation of the IOM
report. The visualization of The Campaign is a health care system that promotes high quality care,
in which nurses contribute to their practice to their maximum potential. These efforts are
harmonized through an initiative of AARP, the Center to Champion Nursing in America (CCNA),
the AARP Foundation, along with the RWJF (Center to Champion, n.d.). The powerful forces
behind The Campaign are Action Coalitions that function at the local levels as well as at the state
levels. In this capacity, The Campaign can form strong, grassroots networks full of diverse
stakeholders that work diligently in order to transform health care through nursing (Center to
Champion, n.d.). The Florida Action Coalition has a focused objective to promote the goals of the
IOM report recommendations and transform health care at the state level through nurse led
innovative solutions. Each state identifies and develops initiatives to promote and further support
the IOM goals. Florida has developed the Florida AC Toolkit to Address Leadership Barriers .

Creationism in Public School Science Class Essay
Should history teachers teach that the Holocaust happened and that it didn t
happen? If not, then why should science teachers teach that life evolved over billions of
years, and that it was created as it is now just six thousand years ago? Creationism should
not be taught in science class because it has no supporting evidence, it is not equal to
evolution, and religious myths can not be taught in public schools in an officially non
religious nation.

These issues are looked
upon as evil by the born again Christian community, and they are saying that evolution is
evil too. Ham also makes the argument that public schools are now anti Christian and
even atheistic. The creationists argue that creationism is scientific fact, evolution isn t,
evolution is evil, and that public schools are anti Christian.
There are many things wrong with Ken Ham s argument, but one thing is true,
however he is wrong to think it is a bad thing. Public schools are anti Christian. It is good
that they are, because it is extremely important that they be anti Christian, Muslim,
Jewish, Hindu, Pagan, etc. Public schools are government institutions. According to the
Constitution, the government will not establish a religion, nor will it be biased towards
any one religion. Why should schools teach the Judeo Christian Islamic myth of creation,
and not the Hindu myth, or the Pagan myth, or any other religion s story of a so called
beginning to everything, and its advancement?
Creationists also often argue that evolution is just a theory. This is true, but so is
sexual reproduction, gravity, humans need water to survive, and all other scientific facts
based on evidence (also called theories). Theory has two different meanings. One is the
scientific one, the one that means fact based on

The Importance Of A Family Intervention For Heart Failure...
Extraneous variables are undesirable variables that influence the outcome of an experiment, though
they are not the variables that are of actual interest (Grove, Burns, Gray, 2013). Family influence
could be an extraneous variable that would need to be addressed. Establishing a family intervention
would control this extraneous variable. There are few family intervention studies for heart failure.
Many patient education guidelines promote inclusion of family in teaching heart failure patients.
The structure and nature of family relationships are important to mortality and morbidity. It is clear
that those patients living alone are a vulnerable group to target. Isolation leads to depression, which
could relate to poor self care behaviors. Family interventions have shown to improve outcomes and
lower patient hospital readmission (Dunbar, Clark, Quinn, Gary, Kaslow, 2008). A research
instrument is a survey, questionnaire, test, scale, rating, or tool designed to measure variables,
characteristics, or information of interest. Several factors should be considered before choosing an
assessment instrument: the purpose of assessment, the type of assessment outcomes, resource
availability, cost, methodology, the amount of time required, reliability, and the audience
expectations (Bastos, et al., 2014). The Self care Heart Failure Index (SCHFI) is the existing
instrument that will be utilized in my research study. SCHFI measures 3 domains of self care: self
care

How Canada Remained Independent of Foreign Control but...
How successful Canada was on remaining independent of foreign control, whilst being a part of
international decision making.
Canada remained independent of foreign control a majority of the time, but at others it did give
in to the pressure put upon it. Canada also got to be a big part of the decision making because it
put itself out there, got recognized as a middle power and proved its worth.
Some of the ways Canada remained independent of foreign control are: When president Reagan s
administration had a project they were trying to get Canada involved in called the Strategic
Defence Initiative (SDI, but also referred to as Star Wars). This was a plan to arm satellites that
could destroy soviet missiles from space. Not many people ... Show more content on

When NORAD was put in place during 1985 many Canadians were angered because they felt it
threatened Canadian independence and since the soviet missiles would be intercepted and
destroyed over Canada, Canada would be the one facing damage and destruction, not the US, but
despite this, Canada has maintained its commitment to NORAD. Canada and Americas economies
are very alike, to this day.
In 1945 when the UN was officially founded, Canada argues to be made a middle power, meaning
they would get recognition for being capable of holding their own, and the contribution they made
during World War II. Canada is very well known for their participation in every UN peacekeeping
operation. Lester B. Pearson even won a Nobel Peace Prize in 1957. When Egypt nationalized the
Suez Canal, Britain, France and Israel made a secret pact to invade Egypt. Israel attacked Egypt
while Britain and France took over the Canal. The situation grew tense when many countries
denounced the invasion. Lester B. Pearson proposed to the UN that Britain, France and Israel
withdraw their troops and the UN send a peacekeeping army into Egypt. His proposal was
accepted. Canada also adapted a new flag, which in a way was to show they had completely
detached themselves from Britain. In 1949 Canada had signed the NATOtreaty. That was the first
time Canada had signed a military

Suffering In Shakespeare s Hamlet-To Be Or Not To Be
The only certainty in life is that one will be born and one will die. The rest of life is full of
uncertainties and hardships. In Shakespeare s play Hamlet, main character Hamlet questions
whether it is better to live and suffer on earth or to be dead in his soliloquy To be or Not to Be.
The fear of the unknown makes one a coward. In the first line, Hamletquestions life To be, or not
to be: that is the question: . Would it be better to no longer exist? Shakespeare emphasizes the
contrast of being versus not being with the use of stressors. The next two lines consider being,

The structure of line fourteen makes the reader pause, Must give us pause: there s the respect.
Shakespeare wants the reader to take time before continuing on. The pause forces the reader to

would bear the whips and scorns of time refers to Hamlet s lifetime opposed to time as a
figurative reference of eternity. Shakespeare uses the powerful poetic technique, which is almost
unique to him, of using two nouns for a noun and its modifier. In the next few lines, Hamlet lists
hardships and other miseries humankind faces. He questions why one suffers through them, when
it would be easy to end life and end the suffering. The oppressor s wrong, the proud man s
contumely means the injustice of the oppressor. Even during the time of Shakespeare the people

insolence of office and the spurns. The next two lines mean the insults that worthy fortitude receive
from the unworthy, The patient merit of the unworthy takes, / When he himself might his quietus

The Causative Bacterial Agent For Lyme Disease
Borrelia burgdorferi, the causative bacterial agent for Lyme Disease, has persisted for thousands
of years. Recently, scientists have found genetic remains of the bacteria from a mummy dating
back 5,300 years (National Geographic, 2011). However, Borrelia burgdorferi was not classified
and identified as the putative source for Lyme Diseaseuntil the early 1980 s.
After mysterious and untreatable symptoms appeared in children and adults of the city of Lyme,
Connecticut, the goal for many clinical microbiologists was to discover the source of disease and
possible cures. It wasn t until Dr. Willy Burgdorfer made a connection between the infected
populace and tick bites when the bacteria was truly discovered (bayarealyme.org). It was then the
bacterium was christened in his name. The bacterium continues to be extensively studied.
Borrelia burgdorferi have many defining characteristics. The spirochete shape distinguishes the
bacterium from other human pathogens. Borrelia burgdorferi is considered a microaerophile it
thrives in environments of low oxygen. However, it can also be classified as an obligate anaerobe
(wisegeek.org). It is considered a weak gram negative bacteria, but is better characterized as a
diderm (Wikipedia). This means that the bacterium has two cell membranes, thus making gram
staining difficult. The bacterial genome consists of one linear chromosome with 17 additional
plasmids totaling over 1000 genes. Most of these genes code for surface proteins

California Gangs
There are approximately 1.4 million active street, prison, and outlaw gang members comprising
more than 33,500 gangs in the United States, according to the National Gang Intelligence Center
of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Gangs are defined as a group of people who form an
alliance for a common purpose and engage in violent or criminal activity. Gangviolence continues
to grow in California. It is inarguable that the gang problem has become more entrenched, over
the past 25 years, especially here locally in Porterville. There are many different gangs in
California, but there is a strong presence of hispanic gangs. During 1980 s, California street
gangs were divided into Surenos and Nortenos. Some say the North South battle started in the
1950s in a California prison, where two prisoners fought over a pair of shoes. One inmate formed
the Mexican Mafia for SureГ±os, and the other prisoner formed Nuestra Familia for NorteГ±os,
which is how the division was created.
The Central Valley is the dividing line for northern and southern gangs. Gangs remain the primary

June. The county is home to a total of 106 cliques.
Most law enforcement personnel agree on a couple of key points: gangs will always be around, but
the negative impacts caused by gangs can be prevented or mitigated to some extent. However,
media reporting has a natural tendency to cover areas experiencing escalations in gang violence,

The Internet Is The Main Source For Information And Education
The internet is the main source for information and education. However, people learn language
like I dunno or idk from the internet. Unfortunately, I used to be one of those people. However,
over time I finally learned the difference between your and you re , and it was easy to just add an
apostrophe to they re instead of typing they are . I realized that the internet had a grip on my writing
and I had to do something about it. This sort of writing that I came into contact with transitioned
from text talk , which is a form of typing with no punctuation or capitalization, to the correct form
of grammar and spelling. For quite some time, I used MySpace to voice my 9 year old opinions.
This did not work out too well. I found myself typing words with numbers in them that made
sense in my head, but as I look back, I realize that I was only hurting my grammar and not making
it any better. I thought I was cool by typing like that, but by doing that, karma eventually came
back in a not so pretty way. I can remember back to elementary school whenever Mrs. Beasley, my
3rd grade teacher, asked the class to write an autobiography. I thought and thought of what to write.
Finally, my penwent to work and my autobiography rough draft was finished in less than 20
minutes. That night, my dad proofread my paper. Unfortunately, he found many errors. Those
errors he pointed out to me were text talk . I was writing my paper like I was texting someone, and

My Identity Essay
My Identity What is my identity? I think my identity at the moment is Mexican, 15 years old, a
student, and more. I am still trying to figure out more things of my identity at the moment. For
right now these are some of my identity and things that mean a lot to me. As I said before I am
mexican. Most of my family was born and raised in Sinaloa, Mexico. They were born in a ranch
called La Quebrada de Los Sandovales . Last year I got to go there for the first time. It looks
really old but the river is so beautiful. I loved how the people there knew each other. Since I was
born my mom made me believe in the virgen de guadalupe. She is the mother of Jesus Christ.
Mostly every year On December 12 my family and me go to church to celebrate her. They bring
music to sing to her. It is always beautiful. On this day we also celebrate my birthday. I am so
grateful to be born on this day. As I was saying in the second paragraph, since my parents are
mexican they taught me spanish. Being bilingual for me is so important because I get to help
others. At school there are times are a lot of times I make new friends just by translating things
for them. I am glad I am latina because I know that it will help me in the future some way. There
are some things I like doing with others which are movies and sports. I have always liked
watching movies. I don t really mind what kind of movie it is. I like fantasy movies the best or

  • 4. Rose For Emily Setting And now Miss Emily had gone to join the representatives of those august names where they lay in the cedar bemused cemetery among the ranked and anonymous graves of Union and Confederate soldiers who fell at the battle of Jefferson. (Faulkner 82). William Faulkner utilizes a fictional southern town in the post Civil War era as the setting for the short story, A Rose For Emily . The entire story is steeped in the ideals of characters relying heavily upon the setting, time and place. The post Civil War southern setting, particularly the ideals of each character in A Rose For Emily must be continually considered by the reader in order to properly interpret the story. The first character to consider is Miss Emily herself, a southern belle perennially existing in the days of plantation houses and family prestige. Emily remains the same throughout the story refusing to accept a changing world. Emily refuses to pay taxes solely upon the basis of an old agreement with a dead man exemplifying a lack of social evolution, I have no taxes in Jefferson. Colonel Sartoris explained it to me. • 5. social security Essay In reading the book Social Security and the Family I learned a lot about the system that I had no idea about before. The book was fact filled and almost fun to read the need to know information. I gained much knowledge in the specifics of why the social security system is in need of reform, and why it will be inadequate in the years to come. One of the reasons our social security systemisn t working is because, Social Securitywas modeled on the single earner, marriedcouple family (1). Times have changed dramatically since then. When assessing the issues and current structure of the security system for change, Four elements characterize the objectives of most tax expenditure programs, including Social ... The fourth and final objective discussed is efficiency, which translates into trying to achieve the greatest good for lowest cost. One measure of efficiency is whether the effect of additional earnings on lifetime benefits of a couple is the same when only on spouse works and when both spouses work (182). This also stems back into our class discussions in the subject of economic efficiency and how being most efficient when the consumer (Social Security beneficiary) and the producer (Social Security system funds) are both at a surplus. Before reading the books I never anticipated being able to connect it to the Public Policy class so readily. More importantly these policies mustn t be overlooked . The central argument of the book is to solve the problem of insufficient funds. Our system now is flawed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Nick Carraway Mature In The Great Gatsby In The Great Gatsby written by Scott F Fitzgerald, we meet a plethora of characters all displaying traits of one who has not matured yet. The Great Gatsby follows the story of a man who is infatuated with a reckless woman and the drama that follows. Nick Carraway is our narrator and one of the main characters, he spends much of his time observing the mistakes and everyday lives of the other characters. Even though he is an adult, Nick does grow in maturity and insight throughout the course of the novel as he is drawn into a lifestyle completely foreign to him. Nick is, in fact, the only dynamic character in the novel. He introduces us to the others, through his clear and unbiased view on things. We meet Daisy Buchanan who is a mysteriously ... All of these things are results of his compulsive optimism and idealism. His immature ideals cannot be sustained in reality. As Nick tells us, there are only the pursued, the pursuing, the busy, and the tired . Sixty three orcas have died at the parks and a further 30 have been miscarried or still born. SeaWorld now currently holds 23 orcas in its three parks in the United Statesand a further 6 at Loro Parque in Spain. SeaWorld are destroying orcas lives and effecting every aspect of their natural instincts. While destroying the orcas they are also lying to the public and covering up all the signs of bad health of the orcas. At SeaWorld captivity has a massive effect on the physical side of orcas. Due to the shallow depths of the tanks and the lack of sun protection and crystal clear water, the orcas are often exposed to blistering heat giving them perpetual sunburn. To hide and cover this from the public SeaWorld apply black zinc oxide to the burns as it matches their skin colour. Even though black zinc oxide minimalizes light reflection it is almost always only applied to the orcas once they have already conceived the burns and should not be used on their skin. According to The Dodo , a former SeaWorld trainer told them that the animal s skin was usually burned or blistered before the application of the black zinc oxide . This suggest that SeaWorld cares more about their income and the view they have to the public than the orcas health and well being. In captivity 100% of male orcas have collapsed dorsal fin, this also occurs in female orcas but not as often. There are many potential causes to this which include dehydration, reduced activity and stress. Dehydration and overheating of fin tissue is due to the warm water and air ... Among them (means of obtaining human subjects for dissection) are the bodies of the executed, bodies stolen from graveyards, unclaimed bodies from poorhouses, hospitals and prisons, the bodies of suicides or duelists, and the bodies of persons murdered for the purpose of dissection(Hildebrandt p.2). These unconventional means were necessary until in the late 13th century and early 14th century Europe, dissection of the bodies of executed criminals was legalized (Perloff p. 6) but there has been a long standing opposition of the church to human dissections, especially the Roman empire. • 12. Alexander Hamilton And The Democratic-Republicans Two rival political parties, the Federalists and the Democratic Republicans, first transpired in the United States government in the eighteenth century Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson leading each. Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson were key figures in the development of the United States of America into what the country is today. Each figure leading their political party battled one another for political control. While both public figures left a lasting impact on the nation, Hamilton and Jefferson contrasted one another when interpreting the Constitution, assigning government authority, implementing economic policies, and creating foreign policy. During the early years of establishing the United States, the role of the national government was a major controversial issue. Highly differing views of the Constitution, economic policies, and foreign affairs caused two major political parties to emerge the Federalists in 1789 and the Democratic Republicans following three years after. The two political parties caused a great divide among America. Alexander Hamilton was the founder of the Federalist Party, while Thomas... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lab 3 Observing Osmosis in Living Cells: Introduction Background Information Living cells may be thought of as microscopically small bags of solutions contained within semipermeable membranes. For the cell to survive, the concentration of solutes within the cell must stay within a safe range. A cell placed in a solution more concentrated than itself (a hypertonic solution) will shrink due to loss of water, and may die of dehydration. A cell placed in a solution more dilute than itself (a hypotonic solution) will expand as water enters it. Under such conditions the cell may burst. A cell placed in a solution that is in equilibrium (an isotonic solution) will remain the same and no water will enter nor leave the cell. Description of the Experiment This experiment was conducted to observe the effect of a certain amount of sucrose in a solution on white potato cylinders. About five or six pieces of potato went into six different solutions that were in increments of 2 m and were labeled by color. The point of this experiment was to see which solutions were hypertonic, hypotonic, or isotonic to a piece of potato. In 1972, Title IX was adopted as the landmark legislation for prohibition of gender discrimination in schools, and was signed into law, by President Richard Nixon, on June 23. This legislation encompasses both academics and athletics. Title IX reads: No person in the U.S. shall, on the basis of sex be excluded from participation in, or denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any educational program or activity receiving federal aid. Finally, in 1980, when the Department of Education was established, they were given Title IX to oversee through the Office of Civil Rights. [1] Through all of this, the goal of Title IX has been and is, to ensure that Federal funds are not utilized for and do not support sex based discrimination, and that individuals have equal opportunities, without regard to sex, to pursue, engage or participate in, and benefit from academic, extracurricular, research, occupational training, employment, or other educational programs or activities. [2] Despite the 1975 regulations schools and courts still debated whether the language of Title IX itself included their athletic departments at all. At issue was the Title IX, В§ 1681(a), phrase dealing with funding: sex based discrimination in any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance violated Title IX. [3] Depending on whether a party was fighting for or against gender equity compliance under Title IX in the athletics area, that party argued for, respectively, an institution wide or program specific view of this phrase. Supporters of the latter view argued that Title IX forbade gender discrimination only in those specific programs or activities receiving direct federal funding. Thus, if an athletic program did not receive any direct federal funding, the regulations and compliance guidelines of Title IX did not apply to it. As seen in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Later on in the story he was told that his dad had died of old age, instead of grief he triumphed knowing that the prophecy that he would kill his father didn t come true. In the story OedipusThe King, there are three forms of irony used in the play, situational, dramatic, and verbal, they all play into the fall of Oedipus the King. Unfortunately for Krispy Kreme, their product offering is mostly doughnuts, all of which are high in carbohydrates, and therefore on the blacklist of many Americans. In fact, as Americans become smarter about their health and their food choices, we can expect doughnut sales across America to drop with time. Loss of the niche aspect of the product As Krispy Kreme rapidly expands by opening up new stores and franchises, the supply of their doughnuts has increased dramatically. Krispy Kreme s doughnuts used to be in very high demand, in our opinion because of the scarcity of the product: knowing that you can t have the product any time, any where, made it more desirable. Now that Krispy Kreme locations are more accessible, as well as the doughnuts being sold across grocery and convenience stores nation wide, the product has become more of a commodity rather than the niche product it once was. In archeology there are many steps a person must take in order to have a successful find. A successful find is not just when you find an object in the dirt or ground, it is when you find an object and find new information about the past. The only way to know about the past is to talk to someone who would know what that object is. This can be a historian, fellow colleague, and especially a descendant of who the object belongs to. An example in which I am referring to when I say a descendant of who the object belongs to, is like when Janet D. Spector talks to Carrie Schommer and Chris Cavendar about the Dakota people. The last group would be the jury members and I would be the judge. Once I assigned them to a specific group they would have a short time to discuss with one another the argument that they would make. They would be arguing against one another that they should have the objects that were found. First each group would give their opening argument. After each group finished that then they would have an open floor in which they would be able to debate each other. Once they were finished debating and each group made their closing remarks then the jury would go and deliberate to determine who gets the objects. When the jury returns I would read aloud the decision. The group who made the best argument will win a prize. Their prize will be all of the artifacts that were found from the first assignment. This second assignment ties back in with the first theme as well because it requires the students to work with one another in order to be successful and win the debate. Introduction The objective of this research paper is to describe how the 21St Century defines corporate social responsibility in relation with the triple bottom line concept, guiding the airline industry into becoming a forward thinking industry embedding sustainability into their core of business operations to create shared value for business and society. I will define corporate social responsibility and areas of social responsibility in the airline industry at the beginning of the paper and proceed with how it ties into the bottom line concept. Next, I will give brief examples of airlines such as JetBlue Airways, and British Airways how they apply these concepts into their mission. In conclusion, I will express my own thoughts about how customers and employees have more choices from the industries than they had in the past. They are more aware of the ethical and environmental stance of todays industries. Abstract The motivation behind this paper is to propose a new approach called objective factorizable approach based on a decomposition algorithm in an interactive model for finding the optimal solution to multi level large scale quadratic programming problem (MLLSQPP), in which the objective function can be factorized into two single linear objective functions and has block angular structure of the constraints. What s more, the author advances the concepts of satisfactoriness as the upper level decision makers preferences until the preferred solution is come to. The bi section method is suggested as an essential solution method to assess these upper level decision makers preferences precisely. Finally, in order to exhibit the proficiency of the proposed model, an illustrative example is provided. MLP techniques relegate each DM a unique objective, a set of decision variables, and a set of common constraints that influence all DMs. DMs make decision in turn or meanwhile to optimize their objective functions. MUC5B and MUC5AC are types of bronchial epithelial cells mRNA which help mucous clearing and protect against airway infection. This has been thought to be a major player in airway problems in asthma. IL 13 binding causes mucous metaplasia. This is caused by the binding of IL 13 which leads to Jak kinases activation and then phosphorylation of transducer and then STAT6. This STAT6 pathway deals with calcium activated chloride channel one which is also known as CLCA1 and is the gene related to the airway epithelial cells. • 38. Examples Of Evil In Othello Pure evil is like a cancerous plague that harms all those who come upon it. In the tragic play Othello by William Shakespeare, Iago is a character that represents pure evil a malignant cancer to all those around him. His evil is exposed through his choice of words, his ability to manipulate people, and his opportunistic ways. First, Iago s evil is shown through his choice of words that demonstrate his vulgarity and his sinister intentions. Iago s language is extremely base and forward; he does show any remorse or sympathy in any situation. For example, Desdemona has recently married Othello; when Desdemona s father, Brabantio, hears the news he becomes enraged. To make the situation much worse, Iago says to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example of his evil imagery is when he says, It is engendered. Hell and night/Must bring this monstrous birth to the worlds light. (Act 1, sc.iii, lines 396 397). His voracity is seen in this quote; he calls upon hell and night to give birth to his evil plan. The way he uses the word, hell and night, associate him with evil which derives from the word devil. Another example that proves Iago s evil imagery is when he says, Divinity of hell!/When devils will the blackest sins put on. (Act 2,sc.iii, lines 340 341). In this quote, Iago, once again calls upon hell but this time describes it as divine. Iago s sinister thoughts are of evil essence because he calls upon the blackest of sins to aid him in his evil quest. Thus, Iago s choice of words prove his sinister intentions; which also include his ability to manipulate people. Iago s evil is also demonstrated by his ability to manipulate people and situations through his words and through his actions. The first victim to fall under Iago s manipulative spell is the half witted Roderigo. Iago recognizes that Roderigo is consumed by lust for Desdemona and would go to the extremes to make her his own. Iago convinces Roderigo that the only way to win Desdemona s heart is to give her money; ...Put money in thy purse... (Act 1, sc. iii, line 339). Everyday, new technological advances are being achieved and the population is growing faster than it ever previously has. We must look back at past civilizations and analyze them to understand what is in store for us in the future. In the pursuit of progress, human societies create problems they do not have the resources or political motivation to solve, for fear of short term losses in status or quality of life, which prevents further advancements and sometimes leads to collapse.1 Three factors that have enabled past civilizations to fall into progress traps and ultimately contributed to the collapse of those... Competition for power and an increasing need for prosperity lead to Copan s collapse, and ultimately the Classic Maya civilization as a whole. Secondly, the Roman civilization had a number of social disputes, which contributed to its collapse. Among those, political instability emerged as the root cause for its downfall.2 One of the revealing ironies of Rome s history is that the city state s native democracy withered as its empire grew. (Wright, 90). The assassination of Julius Caesar fueled existing conflicts further. Self proclaimed emperors after Caesar s death and the overall political imbalance of the weakening empire lead to war, invasion and trade disruption. These disturbances created a ripple effect that lead to massive amounts of crime, increased cases of disease, and widespread famine. Without the social conflicts regarding political relations, the Roman Empire may not have fallen as extensively. Thirdly, social conflicts in China marked the end of the Ch in dynasty in 206 B.C. Extraneous variables are undesirable variables that influence the outcome of an experiment, though they are not the variables that are of actual interest (Grove, Burns, Gray, 2013). Family influence could be an extraneous variable that would need to be addressed. Establishing a family intervention would control this extraneous variable. There are few family intervention studies for heart failure. Many patient education guidelines promote inclusion of family in teaching heart failure patients. The structure and nature of family relationships are important to mortality and morbidity. It is clear that those patients living alone are a vulnerable group to target. Isolation leads to depression, which could relate to poor self care behaviors.
