This survey was conducted in January 2016 among 400 U.S. facility leaders in establishments including data centers, commercial and industrial buildings, retail, healthcare, education, government and other building environments. Respondents have responsibility related to purchasing energy and technology solutions, and their biggest responsibilities included facility management and operations management. Facility managers are increasingly adapting their building maintenance strategies in response to the Internet of Things (IoT).

Building Information Modeling is not a new concept in the AEC industry. In May 2011, the UK government released a futuristic construction strategy for a reduction in the cost of public sector assets. This strategy mandated construction vendors applying for government tenders to achieve BIM Level 2 to be considered. The strategy also pushed for the phased roll-out of BIM Level 3 on all centrally-procured projects by 2016.

A BIM model can be utilized for pre-defined specific purposes, commonly known as use-cases. According to project stage requirements and project complexity, specific parameters are added to the existing information contained in BIM. These additions of pre-defined used cases can be described as BIM dimensions.
These dimensions enhance the data associated with a model to share a greater level of understanding of a construction project.
In the modern era, BIM technology has evolved from basic 3D & 4D dimensions to more sophisticated 5D, 6D & 7D dimensions that are poised to change the future of the AEC industry.

Major capital projects continue to be over budget and behind schedule, meanwhile, discussions on how to improve center on better collaboration between the OO/EPC/Constructor, contractingstrategies and better upfront design definition.
This presentation covers how technology is disrupting the capital project execution landscape with potential savings of 10% of total project installed cost (TIC). These savings are made available through the optimization of data-centric engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction and commissioning strategies enabled by the Cloud, advanced analytics to measure progress in real time, augmented and virtual reality for breaking down silos between engineering and the field.

The Expanding Role and Importance of Application Delivery Controllers [Resear...Radware
When it Comes to ADCs, Perception is Not Reality.
The Enterprise Strategy Group and Radware recently conducted a collaborative research project about the current use and future strategies of application delivery controllers (ADCs).
Based on a survey of 243 IT professionals, the research reveals that the role of ADCs has expanded well beyond the historical perception of hardware-based load balancers.
What’s most interesting is that ADCs are becoming a critical component of a defense-in-depth security strategy as enterprises fine-tune security policy and enforcement to align with their sensitive business applications. Organizations are also deploying ADCs as virtual appliances at an increasing rate and taking advantage of ADC functionality from the network through the application layer.
There is a lesson to be learned here: enterprise organizations can get creative with ADC deployments for performance tuning, application-specific services, and critical system protection. Read this research http://www.radware.com/social/esg-adc-research/ to understand the benefits of applying ADCs in this fashion.

More Electric:
Our world is becoming More Electric. Almost everything we interact with today is either already electric or becoming electric. Think about it. From the time you start your day in the morning to the time you finish your day – your home, your car, your work, your devices, your entertainment – almost everything is electric. Imagine the energy needed to power this. Electricity consumption will increase by 80% in next 25 years
More Connected: Our lives are also becoming more connected. The Internet has already transformed the way we live, work and play. Now the Connected Things is going to take this to a brand new level. 50 billion things connected in the next 5 years.
More Distributed: With such a widespread electrification and connectivity, energy models need rethinking as well. Which is why the generation of power needs to be closer to users. Distributed Energy is rapidly evolving globally. This is positive energy – renewable. In 2014 , Renewables overtook fossil fuels in investment value, with $295bn invested in renewables compared to $289bn invested in fossil fuels. And it is getting cheaper to do this.
More Efficient: When our world is more electric, more connected and more distributed, new opportunities emerge and allows us to tap into even more efficiency – in industrial processes, in the energy value chain, in buildings, in transportation, in the global supply chain and even in the comfort and peace-of-mind of our homes.

Within healthcare facilities, high availability of systems is a key influencer of revenue and patient safety and satisfaction. Three important critical success factors need to be addressed in order to achieve safety and availability goals. These include exceeding the facility’s level of regulatory compliance, a linking of business benefits to the maintenance of a safe and an “always on” power and ventilation environment, and a sensible approach to technology upgrades that includes new strategies for “selling” technological improvements to executives. This reference guide offers recommendations for identifying and addressing each of these issues.

Data Centers - Striving Within A Narrow Range - Research Report - MCG - May 2...pchutichetpong
M Capital Group (“MCG”) expects to see demand and the changing evolution of supply, facilitated through institutional investment rotation out of offices and into work from home (“WFH”), while the ever-expanding need for data storage as global internet usage expands, with experts predicting 5.3 billion users by 2023. These market factors will be underpinned by technological changes, such as progressing cloud services and edge sites, allowing the industry to see strong expected annual growth of 13% over the next 4 years.
Whilst competitive headwinds remain, represented through the recent second bankruptcy filing of Sungard, which blames “COVID-19 and other macroeconomic trends including delayed customer spending decisions, insourcing and reductions in IT spending, energy inflation and reduction in demand for certain services”, the industry has seen key adjustments, where MCG believes that engineering cost management and technological innovation will be paramount to success.
MCG reports that the more favorable market conditions expected over the next few years, helped by the winding down of pandemic restrictions and a hybrid working environment will be driving market momentum forward. The continuous injection of capital by alternative investment firms, as well as the growing infrastructural investment from cloud service providers and social media companies, whose revenues are expected to grow over 3.6x larger by value in 2026, will likely help propel center provision and innovation. These factors paint a promising picture for the industry players that offset rising input costs and adapt to new technologies.
According to M Capital Group: “Specifically, the long-term cost-saving opportunities available from the rise of remote managing will likely aid value growth for the industry. Through margin optimization and further availability of capital for reinvestment, strong players will maintain their competitive foothold, while weaker players exit the market to balance supply and demand.”

Summary
• Data centers / IT are likely to spend the most on electricity in a year.
• A larger proportion of those managing larger buildings are using
energy management systems
• System data storage is the biggest concern around remote
diagnostics while the level of investment required acts as a barrier to
adopting Big Data solutions.
• Capital expenditure budgets are set to increase for 2016, compared
to 2015. Over a fifth anticipate an increase of 10%+.

Majority have final say in facility decisions
• An online survey was conducted with decision makers in Facilities
Management and Maintenance across the US.
• Over half (57%) make all of the final facility maintenance outsourcing
decisions, while the remaining make the decisions or have influence
over decisions to some extent. Respondents have a variety of
responsibilities and years of industry experience:

Level of investment acts as a barrier to Big Data solutions
Level of investment and lack of resources act as the biggest barriers to the adoption of big data solutions
and analytics. However, those who cite lack of resource available are also likely to project the capital
expenditure budget for 2016 increase so this may no longer pose as a barrier in the future.

Bigger buildings are likely to use energy management systems
Typically, energy management systems are used in bigger buildings. Smaller buildings might not be able to
utilise such systems to their full potential. Similarly, newer buildings (less that 12 years old) are more likely
to use energy management systems as opposed to older buildings.
