- The document summarizes Sanjay Kumar's presentation on the Communication, Navigation and Surveillance (CNS) facilities at the Birsa Munda Airport in Ranchi, India, where he completed an internship.
- CNS refers to the core functions that make up air traffic management infrastructure: communication between pilots and air traffic control, navigation to determine aircraft position, and surveillance to monitor aircraft behavior.
- The presentation described the security screening equipment including metal detectors, x-ray baggage systems, and CCTV as well as the air traffic control tower and navigation aids like VHF communication, AMSS, ILS, localizers and DVOR that pilots rely on for takeoffs and landings.

ARTIFICIAL RETINA USING THIN FILM TRANSISTORS DRIVEN BY WIRELESS POWER SUPPLYManiroop Badam
Artificial retinas have been ardently desired to recover the sight sense for sight-handicapped people. We have verified that an artificial retina using poly-Si TFTs can be driven by wireless power supply. It is confirmed that the irradiated light distribution can be reproduced as the output voltage distribution owing to the parameter optimization of the wireless power supply system.

The Airports Authority of India is a statutory body working under the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India is responsible for creating, up grading, maintaining and managing civil aviation infrastructure in India. It provides Communication Navigation Surveillance/ Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) services over Indian Airspace and adjoining oceanic areas.
Airports Authority of India (AAI) under Ministry of Civil Aviation was constituted by an Act of Parliament and come into being on 1st April 1995 By managing erstwhile NAA (National Airports Authority) and IAAI ( International Airports Authority of India).
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

2. CONTENTS
• Introduction to AAI
• Introduction to BMA
• What is CNS?
• CNS Facilities
• VHF Communication
• AMSS
• ILS
• Localiser
• DVOR
2
3. AIRPORT AUTHORITY OF INDIA
• An organization working under the ministry of civil aviation that manages all
airports.
• Formed on 1st April 1995 by merging the international airport authority &
national authority.
• The AAI manages and operates total 128 airports including 15 international, 8
custom, 80 domestic & 25 civil enclaves.
3
4. Introduction to Birsa Munda Airport Ranchi
• Birsa Munda Airport is a public
domestic airport serving the city of
Ranchi and is managed by Airports
Authority of India.
• It is located in Hinoo locality,
approximately 7 km (4.3 mi) from the
centre of the city.
• it is the 27th busiest airport in India
4
6. What is CNS?
Communication, Navigation and Surveillance are three main functions
which constitute the foundation of Air Traffic Management infrastructure.
• Communication: Communication is the exchange of voice and data
information between the pilot and air traffic controller of flight information
centre's.
• Navigation: Navigation element of CNS/ATM system is meant to provide
accurate reliable and seamless position determination capability to aircrafts.
• Surveillance: The act of watching or monitoring the behavior activities, or
other changing information.
6
8. METAL DETECTOR
• Hand Held metal detector:
It is used to find the particular part of the body
at which any metal or other related particle is
there. It operates with chargeable battery
system.
• Door Frame metal detector:
Every passengers has to go through this frame
when any metal particle is possessed by
passengers. It gives indication with both visual
and audio aid.
8
9. X-BIS
• X-Ray is used in x-Ray baggage systems .
• In this a baggage put in scanner , then it would show color according to
material.
Baggage
•Inorganic
•Organic
•Metals
•Explosive
X-RAY
9
10. Cctv & Etd
• CCTV is the use of video cameras to transmit a
signal to a specific place, on a limited set of
monitors.
Two types of cctv are used:
1. Fixed Camera
2. Ptz Camera
• ETD is used to detect explosive materials.
10
11. ATC Tower
• The air traffic controllers are able to
direct control with the pilot and guide
them to move forward towards their
Destination.
11
12. VHF Communication
• Commumnication Is Done Through VHF.
• The Range Of Vhf Is 30mhz To 300 Mhz.
• It Is A Type Of Line Of Sight Communication.
• Modulation Technique Used Is Amplitude Modulation.
2 Type Of Antennas Are Used :
1. Directive Antenna 2. Omni-directional Antenna
12
14. Automatic Message Switching System
(AMSS)
The AMSS is a computer based system, centred on the AFTN for exchange of
Aeronautical messages by means of auto switching for distribution of messages
to its destination(s), which works on store and forward principle.
14
15. ILS
• The Instrument Landing System (ILS) provides a means for safe landing of
aircraft at airports under conditions of limited visibility.
• The ILS also increases the traffic handling capacity of the airport under all
weather conditions.
• The function of an ILS is to provide the PILOT or AUTOPILOT of a
landing aircraft with the guidance to and along the surface of the runway.
Components of ILS:
1. Localizer
2. DVOR
3. DME
15
16. Localiser & DVOR
• Localiser:
Provides runway centerline guidance to
aircraft, but not the glide slope
information.
• DVOR:
It is the Doppler Very High Frequency
Omni Radio Range which measures the
azimuth angle with respect to the north.
16
17. DME
• DME(distance Measuring Equipment) :
Term combining Ground Based and
Airborne Equipment to measure the
distance of the aircraft from a ground
station.
• Provides slant distance of the aircraft
from the ground equipment/station
