 Conclusion
 The Airports Authority of India (AAI) was formed on 1st
April 1995 by merging the International Airports Authority
of India and the National Airports Authority.
 AAI manages 137 airports, which include 24 International
Airports, 07 Customs Airports,78 Domestic Airports and
26 Civil Enclaves at Defense airfields.
 AAI provides air navigation services over 2.8 million
square nautical miles of airspace.

Communication is the exchange of voice and data information between the
pilot and air traffic controllers or flight information canters.

COMMUNICATION
o Ways to Communicate at AAI:
COMMUNICATION
HF orVHF is used for communication between
controller and pilot.
Aeronautical FixedTelecommunication Network
(AFTN) is used for communication among Ground
Stations.
AMSS stands for Automatic Message Switching
System and works on the principle of “Store and
Forward”.
COMMUNICATION(VHF)
Communications is done through V.H.F(very high
frequency range).
The range of VHF is 30 MHz to 300 MHz.
It is a type of line of sight communication.
Modulation technique used in Amplitude Modulation.
Allotted frequency for V.H.F is 108-156 MHz .
Out of it A.A.I operates in 117.975 MHz – 136 MHz .
Each airport has its designated frequency .
VHF
Three Basic Required for V.H.F Communication are:
a) TRANSMITTER
b) RECEIVER
c) ANTENNAS
VHF TRANSMITTER
A transmitter uses an oscillator to produce the desired
radio frequency current.
Crystal-controlled oscillators are normally employed to
provide better frequency stability. Thinner the crystal,
higher will be the operating frequency.
VHF RECEIVER
The VHF receiver has the function of selecting the desired
signal at VHF frequencies from all the other unwanted signals,
amplifying and demodulating it, and reproducing it in the
actual shape/desired manner.
VHF ANTENNAS
DIRECTIVE
ANTENNA
OMNI DIRECTIONAL
ANTENNA
 'ART' of determining the position of an aircraft over earth's surface and
guiding its progress from one place to another.
 Navigational-Aids used by AAI:
NDB VOR DME ILS Sat. Nav.
NAVIGATIONAL-AIDS
NDB:NON DIRECTIONAL BEACON
 An NDB or Non-Directional Beacon is
a ground-based, low frequency radio
transmitter.
 NDB Gives The Clockwise Angle
Between The NOSE Of An AIRCRAFT
and The NDB.

INSTRUMENT LANDING SYSTEM
 The Instrument Landing System (ILS) provides a means for safe
landing of aircraft at airports under conditions of low ceilings and
limited visibility.
 System comprises of two parts:
Localizer Glide Path

ILS Localizer
ILS:INSTRUMENT LANDING SYSTEM
LOCALIZER
The localizer unit consists of an equipment building,
the transmitter equipment, a platform, the antennas,
and field detectors.
Localizer provides runway centreline guidance to
aircraft.
GLIDE PATH
Glide path provides
gliding angle to
aircraft.
The Glide Path unit is
made up of a building,
transmitter , radiating
antennas and monitor
antennas mounted on
towers.
DME:DISTANCE MEASURING
EQUIPMENT
Give the slant distance to aircraft from ground.
Permit the use of multiple routes on common system of
airways to resolve traffic.
SURVEILLANCE
SURVEILLANCE
of watching or
The act
monitoring the behavior
activities, or other changing
information.
Surveillance may be
applied to observation from
a distance by means of
electronic equipment.
SURVEILLANCE
SURVEILLANCE
RADAR SECURITY
EQUIPMENTS
RADAR
 Radars are employed throughout
air traffic
safely controlling
route and in the vicinity
the world for the purpose of
en-
of
airports.
 Aircraft as well as vehicular traffic
at large airports are monitored by
means of high-resolution radar.
Security Equipment
X-RAY BIS
Hand Held Metal Detector
Door Framed Metal Detectors
CCTV
FIDS
PA Systems
The luggage carried by
the passengers is
checked by using the
X-Ray Baggage
Inspection System.
X-ray BIS is used to
detect the presence of
metal and explosive
material.
X-RAY BIS
HAND HELD METAL DETECTOR
It is used to find the particular
part of body that any metal is
there.
It operates at chargeable battery
system.
DOOR FRAME METAL DETECTOR
Every person have to
cross the door at airport
to check that any metal
is attached to their
body.
It give indication of both
audio and visual aids.
CCTV
Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) is the use of video
cameras to transmit a signal to a specific, limited set
of monitors.
In this the signal is not openly transmitted, though it
may employ point to point wireless links.
For security purpose many CCTV camera input are fed
to a multiplexer or generally in a switcher, from
where it goes as a input to the monitor output.
FIDS
The Flight Information Display System is used
to convey flight information to large number
of people at one place.
The FIDS may consist –
 Display Boards.
 Monitors.
 Video Projection System.
 TV Monitors.
PA System
It is called Public Address System.
At the Airport it is use to address the passengers.
Information about the arrival and departure of flights,
security checking etc. is announced by this system.
AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL SYSTEM
This is a system rendered between the Air Traffic Control
Institutions and the aircraft to secure the safety and the
mobility of aircraft by providing ground navigation or advice,
information about aircraft and the airport weather condition.
