Harsh road rage will most likely have long term physical and mental health issues from the incident.
The article describes that Toronto is one of North America s highest cycling and pedestrian fatality
rates, and from that information they did a study to gain a better understanding of road rage
victims experiences to consider how they might interact with situational and environmental factors
in the outcome of incidents. The results that were concluded from this research were important key
themes before, during, and after the incident. Awareness/Hyper vigilance, Scapegoats, and Power
Imbalance occurred before the incident. Special Challenges and Misunderstandings, and General
Disregard and Special Consideration. Occurred during the incident. Lastly Psychological/Physical
Consequences and Changes in Behavior occurred after the incident.

The French Revolution And The French And American Revolution
The French and American Revolution do have some similarities although, ultimately, the two wars
are completely different. One of the main differences is that the American Revolution was sparked
by the American people who were unhappy with the way the British were controlling them. As a
result, the Americans were looking for independence. The French Revolution, on the other hand, was
centered on putting an end to the monarchy and implementing a new style of government while
also changing the social structure which favored the hereditary elites. Another difference is in
relation to how the revolutions were fought. The Americans elected representatives who assumed
powers of government and created their own currency which effectively cut off payments to Britain
while the US organized an official army (495). The American Revolutioninitially put together two
military powers which fought throughout the thirteen colonies. Although the British won most of
the battles, the Americans would be able to form a competent military, with civilian support
networks, that provided supplies and financial support (495). Although this was not quite enough, it
took until the French intervened, as allies to the Americans, the British finally surrendered granting
independence to these colonies.
The French Revolution was, for the most part, all internal. It started when the Third Estate declared
itself The National Assembly, this move made the king realized that the people planned for him to

Sports Concussions In Sports
Sports are played all over the world. From kids as young as 3 years old just learning the basics of
a sport, to the well rounded college and professional athletes, sports are played almost everywhere
in the world. With sports, though, come the risk of concussions. What is a concussion? A
concussion is a traumatic injury to the brain that temporarily disrupts its normal function.
(Brzycki). As simple as that may sound, concussions are very serious. Concussions can cause
many serious and severe short and long term issues. In the past few years, there has been a growing
concern about sports related concussions. There has also been a growing concern about coaches,
trainers, and athletes awareness about concussions and the serious consequences that they may
bring. That may leave some to wonder if their son or daughter s coaches are up to date with current
concussioneducation and awareness. Concussions start with the athlete. The first step to being able
to deal with concussions more effectively is by the athlete actually being able to detect symptoms,
being brave enough to report symptoms, and actually reporting symptoms. The misunderstanding
and lack of education about the seriousness of concussions can be very harmful to athletes.
Common reasons for why athletes do not report their concussions includes not thinking the injury is
serious enough to warrant medical attention, their motivation to not be withheld from participation
and their lack of knowledge regarding the

The Effects Of Nuclear Family On Modern Society
Over the past few decades social scientists have been engaged debates about family change and
influences in modern society, with one of the main themes being the strength and relevance of the
nuclear family. Those who believe that the nuclear family unit is breaking down often site the fact
that social structures holding up the nuclear family, such as marriage, are collapsing The chances
in some societies are now less that 50 50... that a child will live continuously to adult hood with
both natural parents (Popenoe 1999). Those on the opposite side believe that the concept of a
nuclear familyis a traditional and naturally occurring phenomenon that passes from generation to
generation. Evidence exists on both sides of the debate leading to conclusion that while the
nuclear family is not as prevailing in modern society as it was in the past but still holds a certain
level of relevance.
Due to the question being asked being debated over is based on the prevalence of a concept
breaking down in modern society it is important to understand where the concept came from and
where it stands in today s society. The concept of a nuclear family, which can be defined as a social
unit composed of two parents and one or more children (Dictionary.com), is viewed as the standard
modern family unit and this concept and perception emerged around the industrial revolution
(Bengtson, 2001). While families in history prior to the industrial revolution upheld these standards

How Did Muhammad Ali Influence On African American Society
Imagine being an African American person living in a world of segregation but he still has a
dream, a dream to become a boxer in a league predominantly white and being looked down on
because of his skin color. Segregation in the 1900 s was cruel and divided because After the Civil
War, millions of enslaved African Americans hoped to join the larger society as equal citizens but
unfortunately were not embraced as equals by much of white America (History Staff). Nearly 100
years after the Emancipation Proclamation, African Americans in southern states still lived in an
unequal world of segregation.

earlier, a win in court forced the New York Boxing Commission to give Ali his license back

boxer, he was a people person and outspoken figure who took championships and won.

Benefits Of Electronic Medical Record
Introduction
There are many benefits of using electronic medical record (EMR). This paper will discuss the
benefits of electronic medical record for the physicians, patients, and the healthcare organizations.
Benefits of EMR for Physicians There are so many benefits for physicians to use electronic medical
record, for example, they can eliminate a tremendous amount of paperwork since most of their
charting is done on the computer. Another advantage of using electronic medical recordis the fact
that it allows for easy transfer of data or information to other departments or medical providers.
This ability of the electronic medical record helps to eliminate errors, it also less time consuming
and it prevents physicians and patients from repeating the same test. It also helps to prevent
patients from over exposing their body to unnecessary radiation. It is also important to note that
healthcare insurance is also enjoying this feature of the electronic medical record since they are
saving money whereby they will not have to pay for duplicate testing. The electronic medical
record being able to transfer patients data and information from one provider to the next is
important since it allows collaborations among various departments and healthcare facilities, also,
physicians do not have to worry about paperwork being misplaced or misfiled. Most patients find
themselves at some time or another gone to another healthcare facility that is not affiliated with
their current

security functionality that is very basic and not advanced. But SAP HANA provides advanced
security features without any cost. Oracle provides data availability and security as extra cost
options. SAP HANA provides the following security features: SAP HANA Studio: Production
System Warning, New kind of alert for Password Expiration, User names in Unicode,
Encryption, audit logging, Authentication and Authorization. SAP HANA protects data through
Persistence, High availability, Disaster Tolerance, Disaster Recovery. Oracle claims that
Business data needs in SAP HANA should be accessed via multiple servers. But SAP HANA
had worked with 100 scale out machines accessing 1 petabyte of data. 1.2 trillion Rows of data
with complex BI queries running in under a second. 2.Compatibility with cloud computing, Big
Data : There is no database size limit in Oracle and it uses Dynamic Random Access Memory
(DRAM), flash and disk for storage. Oracle claims that there is no extra cost for storage because
users do not entirely feed database in expensive DRAM. Oracle claims that entire database in SAP
HANA must fit in expensive DRAM. All systems have storage resources that are finite, disk, RAM
and CPU. But RAM prices continually seem to be dropping from US$100 per megabyte in 1990 to
the current 2014 price which is US$0.0073 per megabyte providing the consumer 8 GB of DRAM
for as low as US$40 in 2014.

Descriptive Essay About The Barbeque Shack
I head to my doom ten minutes earlier than I should have. I dread this day every year. This is the
year that the Barbeque Shack opens. My boss called me into work on memorial day weekend. I
pull in I can t help but to admire the clean landscaping. The bricks leading to the front door lined
up orderly like soldiers before their superior. The crimson red and the white divine flowers lay in
the middle of the outside dining patio with a rusty cast iron outline pig that was the symbol of the
company. The crispy smell of the morning mow gave me a satisfactory sensation. The dew
collected on my boat shoes as I slug to the shack. Customers assume the inside is clean and well
maintained, but rather it is appalling.
The shack is painted a wine red. I graze my fingers upon the painted wood door. The paint chips
flew off like embers from a fire. I greet my co workers and boss with a cheerful, Good Morning!
Big boss man respond with a lethargic, go get me a load of wood. They probably feed on my
despair. The BBQ pit that cooks savory meat is devoured by a wheelbarrow stacked full of cedar
wood. What people do not realize is that you have to move each log that is full of splinters and
small critters with eight leg. Filling the rusty wheelbarrow requires your utmost concentration
because it will flip over, and you will have to start over from square one. I file through with the
cedar wood and toss the planks in the furnace. This furnace has singed me on the arm countless
times for

Roof Of The World
1) I believe that there are many ways that the author has chosen to set up a man and animal as
competitors in the story On The Roof Of The World by Sir Charles G. D. Roberts.
One of the reasons that the author has set up a man and an animal as competitors is that unlike
normal circumstances where mankind is on top of the food chain, higher that every other living
thing known, in this short story, the man and the bear are on approximately the same level of the
food chain. As the bear is equipped with claws, the man evens himself out with the spear he has
fashioned himself. The author seems to write this to portray his question of, is humankind more
superior to other living species when having to live in almost the exact same conditions in ... Show

D. Roberts has a lot to do with the story. The title describes the atmosphere itself and the happenings
on the Arctic. For example, imagine the entire world is a two story house. The basement of the
house is Antarctic while the first story of the house is approximately covering the bottom of the
equator and the second story is on top of the equator and the sides of the earth are the sides of
the house. As you know from a typical house with the windows unopened, the elements would
not touch the basement and the first and second stories of the house, while the sides of the house
are exposed to some of the elements. As most people know, the top of the house is exposed to
almost everything the wind, rain, snow, hail and other elements. This is the same with the roof of
the earth which is the Arctic. The arctic ranges from 50 celsius to 0 degrees celsius and in the
book, it states it seemed to be the very roof of the world, all naked to the outer cold, this flat, vast
of solitude, dimly outspread beneath the Arctic night (p. 159) which describes that nothing really
happens in the Arctic like nothing would normally happen on the roof of a

How Did Francis Joseph Impact The World
Francis Joseph was the oldest sibling of Archduke Francis Charles, who was heir and brother of
the Austrian Emperor I. Because his father was king of the throne, Francis Joseph had become
the emperor when his dad was abdicated near the end of the revolution in 1848. By the time
Francis stepped upon the throne Austria s position as a European power was already in great
decline. Later, Austria betrayed Russia in the Crimean War through 1853 1856 making a heavy
impact in the Austrian and Russian relationship. A couple of years later there was a unification of
Italy which brought great threats to the Italian Empire. In the decade that had followed Austria
nearly lost all of their Italian possessions, such as Lombardy and Venetia. The rise of the Prussian
dominance of the German Confederation, and Austria s loss of the Austro Prussian war in 1866.
German unification in 1871 made Austria the lesser of the two German powers. This is the

A Clean Well-Lighted Place Essay
In A Clean Well Lighted Place by Ernest Hemingway, there are characters in the story that has
some conflicts with each other. The conflict is based on the young waiter and the older waiter.
There are three reasons how they bump heads with each other. The first reason is how the author
s main purpose deals with these two conflicts. The second reason is because of the way the
young is dealing the story. The final reason is the way the old is dealing with the story. Although
there are some similarities in this story, but there are some differences between the young verses
the old. First and foremost, the author s main purpose dealing with the young verses the old in the
story. The author discussed the views of an older person with a younger person. In this case, the
people that he used were the younger and the older waiter. The older waiter was one of the main
characters in this story that the author used to describe the main purpose of his writing. The waiter
stated in A Clean Well Lighted Place that the younger waiter could not stand up with dignity, that he
was nothing of a man, and that it was nothing that the young waiter knew too well (Hemingway 5).

This evening I went to go see an anomalous play called Little Shop, which struck me as a
fantastic performance put together by the ESU theatre department. The plays setting took place
in an area called Skid Row , a large city somewhere in the U.S around the early 1960s. The

much stronger and more enjoyable overall than Act II. Act I opened up with the singing of the girl
group and initially the introduced the main characters of the performance by them interacting with
each other throughout the flower shop. Mr.Mushnik was the owner of the shop while Seymour

Short Article, Gallows Humor And Medicine Essay
Humor is something that has been scorned in the past and by the greatest minds of philosophy such
as Plato and Aristotle. It was viewed by ancient societies as lacking seriousness and being
distractive to the process of thinking. In any case, Plato condemned the association of humor with
gods claiming that it was degrading to encourage it on human beings let alone the supernatural.
Aristotle even emphasized that laughter is uneducated insolence. It is therefore quite the issue
when humor is allied with a field as serious as Medicine. While these are more traditional views of
humor, developments in psychology, show that humor is a crucial part of the subconscious mind.
It is crucial for information processing of the human mind and allows human beings to move past
depressing situations (Watson 37). This essay aims at analyzing Katie Watson s article, Gallows
Humor in Medicine. It seeks to provide insight on the role and kind of humor in the medical field
as well as respond to Watson s work. The essay mostly agrees with the article given its attempts to
explain the role of humor as an important one in dealing with difficult situations in a better manner.
It supports the article in criticizing the thought that the profession is a squeamish campaign in
contradiction of pleasure. Firstly, the medical profession is a busy field and requires a great deal
of commitment to understand the issues of life. It is as emotionally engaging as it is mentally and

Don Pio Pico, a renowned figure of early Mexican/American culture, was known for his exquisite
fashion sense, intelligence and leadership, whose family experience with early California

Nonetheless, I found the Pico mansion to be quaint, surrounded by growing grapes and many

Analysis Of Disabled And Out, Out
Disabled by Wilfred Owen and Out, Out by Robert Frost are infamous for their powerful and
impactful atmospheres and the ways in which they have creates them, some of the methods being
shared and with some of the methods differing, which is what I intend to discuss in this essay.
One way in which Disabled and Out, Out compare in the atmosphere is through their use of pity to
evoke extreme emotions. Owen creates pity for the narrator through the strong contrast between
his life before the war and after it.We can see that pathetic fallacy is used throughout when
describing the post war society, with words such as dark , ghastly and solemn used to emphasise
the narrator s internal feelings, which is evident by how the entire poem is essentially an
internal monologue, which is often synonymous with internal darkness and a conflicting mind.
Owen also uses the idea of isolation to create pity, by repeating phrases such as why don t they
come to emphasise loneliness. Owen also refers to the narrator s lack of female attention as to
evoke pity, especially when his disability is referred to as a queer disease . Frost also uses pity to
evoke emotion throughout his poem. We can see this clearly when he writes Call it a day, I wish
they might have said. This short sentence is foreboding and creates a sense that the latter lines will
evoke pity and suffering upon the boy. The tragedy of the situation also evokes pity, especially as
his condition rapidly worsens, with him

Flint, It All Began With Debt
For Flint, it all began with debt. But you cannot blame a debt that has been developing over the
years even though it led to major health concerns, hurt the already poor economy and left
thousands with nothing but fear. Flint Michigan was an up incoming town back in the eighties.
General Motors had its largest plant (at the time) in Flint and this plant brought much of the
population while helping the economy grow. GM created many employment opportunities for
Flint residents until they began to downsize in the late eighties. This is when the debt began to
grow. GM held much of the economy at this time so the downsizing impacted everyone in Flint.
As GM downsized the poverty rates increased, Flint s government began looking for ways to
make up the lost money. In 2011, Flint was 25 million dollars in debt and desperately looking for
ways to reduce it (Dixon). The cityof Flint was now under a state of emergency and people began
asking questions. Governor Rick Snyder made the decision with his appointed members to switch
Flint s water supplyfrom the Detroit Water System to Flint s own river that ran through town.
This switch was supposed to save the city of Flint nearly a hundred million dollars however, it did
much more than that. The switch to the Flint River was only supposed to be temporary and
Snyder assured the public that all proper testing had been done on the water. The Flint river was
the towns backup water source for many years but it was never needed because the

Dante s Beasts
The Beasts and Monsters in Dante s Inferno
The Inferno is the first section of Dante s three part poem, The Divine Comedy. Throughout Dante s
epic journey into the depths of Inferno he encounters thirty monsters and five hybrid creatures. The
most significant of these monsters are of central importance to his journey and to the narrative, as
they not only challenge Dante s presence in Inferno, but are custodians of Hell, keeping in order or
guarding the perduta gente . In this essay I am concentrating on these prominent beasts, namely
Minos, Cerberus, Plutus and Geryon, establishing why they feature in Dante s eschatological vision
and discussing the sources which influenced his inclusion of these particular creatures. These four

His serpentine torso and writhing tail connect him with the previous monsters that Dante has
encountered. The twisting movement of Geryon s tail reminds the reader of the manner with
which Minos wraps his tail around the sinners, and the description of Cerberus as il gran vermo
adds to this snaky imagery associated with these beasts. The power the monsters have in their
tails would have been meaningful for Dante s readers as it was commonly noted in medieval
times that a beast s tail showed its ferocity and held much of its strength. This is illustrated by
Brunetto Latini s descriptions of the dragon and the lion in his Li Livres dou Tresor, as well as in
Revelations where the power of the horses lay...in their tails; for their tails were like snakes.(6)
This association with serpents is also significant as the serpent was the first deceiver (7),
establishing the deception and terror connected with these monsters which adds to the uncertain
and disordered atmosphere in Inferno.
Dante s readers would have been familiar with the beasts he discusses in Inferno as they are firmly

What Are The Pros And Cons Of Federal Budgets
The Balancing of State Federal Budgets
The purpose of this paper is to analyze and determine the pros and cons of a balanced vs
unbalanced financial system by comparing the nature of state budgets to the federal budget. States
and local governments operate within the parameters of a balanced annual budget where their total
expenditures equal their total revenues generated; however, a surplus can occur when their
revenues exceed their expenditures as well as a fiscal deficit when their expenditures exceed their
revenues. When state or local governments experience a fiscal deficit due to hardship like a natural
disaster, they can petition the federal government for funding in order to reconcile their budgets.
However, the federal government ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, the federal government has an artificially designated borrowing threshold beyond
which the government is not authorized to borrow funds in order to manage over spending that
is contributing to the fiscal deficit and this threshold is referred to as the national debt ceiling
(Ross, 2015). The federal government has the ability to raise its own debt ceiling if needed with
the approval of congress. This practice is largely in place because the federal government has the
authority to print money and issue currency in order to help regulate the economy whereas this is
out of state and local government s jurisdiction of fiscal power. When the federal government is
approaching its debit ceiling, it will then borrow money in the form of treasury bonds in order to
help balance the deficit spending. These treasury bonds are purchased by individuals, corporations,
and other countries like China amongst other entities (Ross, 2015). The government s budget was
generally in surplus in the 1960s, then mostly in deficit since, except for a brief period between

fellow footballs and I heard we were going to Foxborough I knew we would play a role in a historic
game that could be Brady s last chance for four rings or Luck s first of many super bowl
appearances. We arrived a few days before the AFC Championship Game. I was thankfully one
of the 6 outdoor footballs and not one of the balls only used for kicking or practice because I
wanted to feel what it was like to be thrown by what could two of the best quarterbacks of all

of the wind or snow that is present at a night game at Gillette. We were picked up by Jim
McNally and John Jastremski, the Patriot equipment managers. They took us to their office and
set us in the corner behind their desk. I was on top of the bag so I had a perfect view of their
computers and I was stunned by what I saw. Jim and John were talking to Brady about how he

Metro Man As A Villain In The Metro Man
Although Metro Man is portrayed as one who aims to serve Metro City and its residents, he acts
as the indirect root of villainy in the city. While Megamind is portrayed as the villain early in the
film, Metro Man is the real villain in Megamind (McGrath, 2010) as he acts in an extremely
selfish manner throughout the film, as displayed in particular by his actions towards
Megamind, and in this creates and supports continued actions of evil intent towards the people
of Metro City. Metro Man involves himself in the creation of villainy through his ostracization of
Megamind, encouraging him to become a villain, and his abandonment of Metro City in its time
of need for purely selfish reasons. From the beginning of both of their lives on Earth, Metro Man
acts to separate Megamind from the rest of acceptable society. He does this by initially dropping
him in prison, and then later treating him as an outcast in school. Pushing Megamind from the
rest of the population serves to provide him with the impetus to engage in chaotic and evil
actions. Joseph Campbell described what the hero s journey consists of in saying, A hero
ventures forth from the world of common day into a region of supernatural wonder... comes
back from the mysterious adventure with power to bestow boons (as cited in Alsford, 2006, p.
24). Metro Man does not move through this journey, he never reaches a crisis, and he never goes
on a mysterious adventure, however Megamind does go through this. In contrast to Metro Man,
Megamind is forced out of society at the hands of Metro Man for years, but eventually comes
back as a hero as the result of a traumatic event. Megamind is the obvious hero of the movie, and
when compared to Metro Man who s clearly not the hero initially brought up to be. In the
interim period, Megamind tries to do evil across the city, though this is only because he feels
like an outcast due to how Metro Man treats him in school. Megamind is forced to confront his
point of crisis for years as he is thrust from the world because of his clumsiness, forcing him to
inflict pain and suffering on others. This pursuit of his is only natural as the two paths one can
take from trauma are to recede from the world or to embrace it and attempt to

Duality And Sensitivity Essay
6Duality and Sensitivity
The optimal solution for a linear programming problem can be calculated by utilizing the simplex
method. Yet, we may still ponder on whether we have truly discovered the optimal solution of our
linear model. Furthermore, we could be concerned on what to do with the surplus of resources at
our hands. In addition, the parameters that we utilized to formulate our model may not reflect the
actual parameters. Those values may have been simply estimates that would guide us in identify a
best possible outcome. Therefore, we are required to conduct further analysis and determine if
indeed we have achieved optimization. In linear programming, analyzing the concept of duality and
sensitivity is extremely useful. It gives us reassurance that our optimal solution would be feasible
in reality. If it was not the best solution, we can now focus on how to reach the optimal solution and
optimize our given objective.
The first issue that we may encounter is whether we utilized our surplus of resources wisely as we
optimize our objective function. All linear programming problems have an associated linear
programming problem called the dual [4]. We call our main problem the primal and the associated
problem the dual. Analyzing the relationship of the optimization of both problems will give us
good insight in weather resources were utilized wisely. The dual problem can be formulated by
alternating our primal problem. If the primal problem s objective

This individual believes that lies would destroy friendships and lives of others. This relates to the
topic because when we conform to society, we become dishonest with ourselves. We lieabout our
feelings and emotions to do what is expected. In the poem it says lying could really hurt a person
inside. However, by becoming truthful and showing our true self could also hurt us because by
doing so, we could be judged and talked about in a negative light. Leah Silverman s Lenses tells
the story of a young surgeon, Corinne, who is asked to replace the vivid eyes of a friend with two
round, steel lenses. She finds herself in a difficult situation where she must decide whether or not
to go through with the operation, risking ruining her friend s depth and character. The overall
message of the story is that the people are made as unique individuals. The story emphasizes how
the eyes contribute to the individuality and beauty of a person, and the fact that nothing can replace
them. This relates to the theme because as people try to fit into society, they start to change and
become someone they are not. It is important to know the significance of being unique because it

Is Beauty In The Eye Of The Beholder
Imagine you are walking through the woods on a sunny fall day, during this walk there are many
things that might bring you pleasure. Along the way you might hear a bird singing, feel a rock as
you hike a path, taste cold water to replenish your thirst, and see many beautiful sights. The person
you are walking with may have a total different experience and sensethings that bring pleasure to
them that may not to you. There is an old adage that says Beauty is in the eyeof the beholder. This
adage can be debated time and time again. The first things to look at is the definitions of beauty
and beholder. The dictionary defines beauty is a combination of qualities that pleases the
aesthetic senses ( Beauty ). It doesn t say beauty has to be seen by the eye. Beauty can be
combination of our five senses. It can be anything we can see, touch, taste, feel, or smell. The
definition of beholder is a person who observes a sense. The adage Beauty is in the eye of the
beholder by definition means that each person sees beauty and can find beauty in different things
through their senses ( Beholder ). It creates a very subjective approach to beauty. The adage is
true because each person is an individual and has different perspectives and way of sensing. The
idea that what pleases one person may not please another is true along this case because not
everybody has the same preference to beauty. Beauty is subjective and can be seen through
personal experience and should give society a

Oskar Schindler s Actions During the Holocaust
The Holocaust usually refers to Nazi Germany s systematic genocide of various peoples during
the Second World War, the main target of this designed massacre being the Jews. Approximately 6
million Jews became the victims of this fanatical racism, slaughter, and cruelty. However, in all this
madness, there were still a few people with sound conscience and courage to act against these
atrocities. The most famous of these heroes would be Oskar Schindler, the once opportunistic

In order to keep his Jews out of the death camps, Schindler spent a sum of 4 million German
marks which was an enormous sum of money for those times. People ask why. They ask why
such a greedy opportunistic person changed his way of living and spent the whole of his life and
his money to save the Jews. When asked this question in person, Schindler replied as follows.
I hated the brutality, the sadism, and the insanity of Nazism. I just couldn t stand by and see
people destroyed. I did what I could, what I had to do, what my conscience told me I must do. That
s all there is to it. Really, nothing more.
Like he said, that was all there was to the reason for Schindler s actions. Schindler believed that the
Germans were doing wrong when they started killing innocent people, and, therefore, did what was
right, which was trying to save as many victims as possible.
Any person with a sound mind and a sound conscience would have realized what Schindler had
realized. However, during this period of intense cruelty, the vast majority of German citizens stood
by and watched as their Jewish neighbors were dragged from their homes, stripped of their
belongings, and killed. Two famous psychological experiments illustrate why no one else did what
Oskar Schindler did.

Contingency Planning For Major Disruptions
Contingency Planning Contingency planning is the anticipation of what may happen, combined
with the allocation of resources, and is assumed to maximize the chances of a successful response in
time of crisis; however does not guarantee successful response (Eriksson McConnell, 2011).
Glendon (2013) presents contingency planning as a layer of a three line defense termed the three
Cs (3Cs) of business continuity: contingency planning, continuity capability, crisis response.
Contingency planning is a provision for an event that is possible but cannot be predicted with
certainty. He also considers the application of the 3Cs in the entertainment industry and banking,
highlighting the need for the business continuity professional support within the organization.
Nejad, Noroomand and Kuzgunkaya (2014) discuss a contingency rerouting known as a cost
effective risk management strategy for major disruptions. The authors propose a mixed integer
programming based capacity planning tool to generate the contingency plan of the supply chain
during disruptions, considering response time and congestion, especially critical when dealing with
disruptions. This is in reference to the last decade disasters that affected the several supply chains
for instance the Japan tsunami in 2011, September 11, 2001, to name a few. Contingency rerouting
is applied to improve supply chain responsiveness to major disruptions (Nejad et al., 2014).

Jaguar Student Activity Center Essay
The best place on campus is undoubtedly the Jaguar Student Activities Center or JSAC. Walking

immediate relief from the heat because of the air conditioner, delicious smells wafting from the

some to feel trapped in their social circles, lost in the crowd, or alone and uncomfortable in a

How Did Geography Affect Where Colonists Settled Essay
Beginning in 1607, when ambitious English colonists settled in Jamestown, and continuing until
the last of the thirteen colonies was established; geography was a substantial factor in the
development of colonial America. The crops that essentially saved the colonists lives, such as
tobacco, rice, and indigo, wouldn t have grown without a certain type and amount of soil to grow
properly. Also, the Appalachian Mountains and the dense forests provided a barrier for the
colonists, preventing them from going too far west right away, and causing the colonies to form in
the arrangement they did. Finally, the population was the most dense in middle colonies, such as
New York, New Jersey, Delaware, and Pennsylvania partly because of the mild... Show more

This, in turn, made it so that the population were more dense, and there was a higher
concentration of people. The dense forests of the eastern seaboard disallowed for large cities to
be created right away. This geological factor forced colonists to spread out within the perimeters
of the Appalachian Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean, without being too close together. Both of
these factors could be overlooked easily enough, but did have a reasonable impact of the
development of colonial America. Finally, the geography of the middle colonies, such as New
York, New Jersey, Delaware, and Pennsylvania played a big role on the development and
population of this area. In the sixteen and seventeen hundreds, the above colonies were the most
populated of the thirteen establishments. There was plentiful and fertile soil, in which tobacco
was heavily grown. The Susquehanna River also flowed through this region, opening the
possibility of fur trade. Other minor rivers that were found in the middle colonies were gentle,
which provided for easy transportation and fishing. The land in the middle colonies was broad
and expansive, making it easy for even the middle class residents to create an enjoyable and
profitable lifestyle. In conclusion, there were many factors that contributed to the development of
the colonial America, but geography was clearly a sizable influence. If the geography of America
wasn t the way it was, the colonists who settled here may have not survived as

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder In Combat Veterans
To effectively treat Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, PTSD in combat Veterans and service
members, therapists use different techniques, which are preceded by addressing any underlying
pain associated with the disorder. In their research, Chard et al. (2011) reported significant
modifications to the CPT protocol for use with patients in a TBI PTSD residential treatment facility,
including increasing the number of sessions per week, combining group and individual therapy, and
augmenting the treatment with cognitive rehabilitation. However, their research was marred with
the use of few participants which provides doubts regarding the outcome of the proposed treatment
procedures. Moreover, the researchers do not state with certainty as to the... Show more content on

Their research, however, does not provide many references to support the study. Levi,
Bar‐Haim, Kreiss and Fruchter (2016) provide effective psychotherapy approaches for treating
combat veterans with chronic post traumatic stress disorder, which they show their efficacy with a
great deal of support. The research is more comprehensive than most studies as it provides an
assessment of the psychiatric status at baseline, post treatment and 8 12 months follow up using the
Clinician Administered PTSD Scale, the PTSD Questionnaire, the Montgomery and Asberg
Depression Rating Scale and the Psychotherapy Outcome Assessment and Monitoring System
Trauma Version assessment questionnaire. However, the researchers did not conduct randomized
controlled trials to determine treatment efficacy. Litz et al., (2009) added to the research on the
treatment of PTSD by stimulating a critical examination of moral injury. The study makes use of
the available literature and offers a working conceptual framework and a set of intervention
strategies designed to repair moral injury, which is a strength also evident in Peterson et al. (2011).
Lunney, Schnurr and Cook, (2014) compared the severity of PTSD symptoms in treatment seeking
older and younger U.S. veterans with PTSD. The study uses a wide number of participants, which
provides credibility to the research and can be relied upon on information regarding the effective
treatment of PTSD. The researchers

Utopian Urbanism That Forms Utopic Degeneration
From recent years, utopian urbanism connects with the so called crisis of modernist urbanism
that forms utopic degeneration. Utopia has developed to mean a community with a visionary
system of political and societal perfection, where cities that function to improve the daily lives
of its citizens; an ideal society, However these concepts are more often than not depicted as an
impossible dream, yet too bold, too radical to ever exist in real life. Some utopian visions are
focused on new technology, whereas others are on intact landscapes. In other occasions, some are
based on new social orders, but all were combined under a radical avant garde and progressive
architecture. It is this, their new and bold concepts that drive the imagination of architects and town
planners. Although rarely realized in full, principles from some utopian visions have been adopted
in part and have had significant influence on existing cities such as New York, Chandigarh and
Paris. They are a catalyst for generating ideas and new forms of thinking that leads to, for better or
for worse the many innovations in 21st century urban planning. Since utopian thinking can produce
a vision of the future that is achievable, what is the connection between having a vision of the
future, whether achievable or not, and utopian thinking?
The concept of utopia, derived from Thomas Mores, in his famous text in 1516 where he refers a
place as to both somewhere good and to nowhere. The connections between utopian

The Impact Of The 20th Century On German Literature
One of the few things that impacted literary movements in German literature in the 20th century
was Expressionism and what the Germans refer to as Neue Sachlichkeit , which means new
objectivity (Scherer, Conybeare MuМ€ller, 1906). However, historical events such as the first
world war led to the division of the nation into west and east Germany. Therefore, the historical
impact on literature differs in both sections. While the east reckoned with the teaching of Hungary
philosopher Georg Lukacs, declaring themselves as the communist resistance of Nazism , which
led to the birth of Socialist Realism (Bahr, Ryan, Jaeger, 2015), the political situation in the west
paved the way for writers such as Bertolt Brecht, who through their work felt the need to fill the
cultural vacuum created by the defeat of Nazism.
The following essay will therefore discuss the impact of the 20th century on German speaking
literature, after which it will analyse the responses of Bertolt Brecht and GГјnter Eich to the
historical and political events.
Bertolt Brecht in response to the first world war, which he experienced as a teenager wrote an
essay to the phrase Dulce et decorum est pro patria morin , a poet by the Roman Horace, which
almost ruined his pursuit for education at the time (Bertolt Brecht, 2017). In his essay, he
described the recruitment of young soldiers under the disguise of dying for their country as a
cheap propaganda for a specific purpose , arguing that only senseless

Portrayal Of Women In The Odyssey Essay
hough women play a central role in The Odyssey written by famous author Homer the portrayal
and characterization of said women highlights the negative portrayal of women at the time as well
as shows double standards that still plague our society today. All of the women are characterized
with few traits, most of which only describe their looks, while the reader is constantly reminded of
all of Odysseusgood traits, most of which have nothing to do with his looks. Even Penelope, who
is portrayed as the ideal woman, is only ever described as beautiful and faithful . Sadly, this
sexism is reflected in the Ancient Greek s patriarchal society in which women were considered the
property of men and they were married off with or without consent at very young ages. Women
play a central role in the Odyssey, yet due to the Ancient Greek s society prejudices the women are
written in a way that clearly highlights the double standards of society and the way men used to
portray women. In the society of Ancient Greecewomen were never in charge of their own
decisions and often had little to no say in them and were often married at young ages and were
judged, not by her own achievements, but by their looks, and the wealth and status of their
fathers or husbands. Even Penelope seems to acknowledge this when she says My looks, my face,
my carriage, were soon faded or lost. knowing that is what the people of the Ancient Greek society
judged people on. After Odysseus is presumed dead,

Analysis Of Phantom Of The Opera
A good film is when the price of dinner, the theatre admission and the babysitter were worth it
(Alfred Hitchcock). A good filmmaker may believe that their film is amazing, but the success of
the film truly lies in the hands of the audience. Every successful movie has appealed to an
audience, but one has stood out for many years. Webber scratched the extra nonsense from Gaston
Lerouxs version of Phantom of the Opera; and he focused on the elements that appeal to an
audience. Any audience, young or old, all enjoy mystery, romance, sensuality, and a Byronic hero.
Andrew Lloyd Webberwas able to create the most successful entertainment piece of all time
because he focused on the traits that any audience wants, a little bit of mystery, romance,
sensuality, and a Byronic hero. Mystery is an important factor in entertainment, allowing the
audience to stay engaged with what is happening. Andrew Lloyd Webber incorporates mystery
beautifully in his movie version of Phantom of the Opera. His mystery mainly comes from the
setting of the Paris Opera House itself. The Opera House is filled with trap doors, contraptions,
and a torture chamber, which the Phantom uses to his advantage. The Phantom gets Christine
down into his secret lair because of a trap door located within the mirror in her room.

  • 3. The French Revolution And The French And American Revolution The French and American Revolution do have some similarities although, ultimately, the two wars are completely different. One of the main differences is that the American Revolution was sparked by the American people who were unhappy with the way the British were controlling them. As a result, the Americans were looking for independence. The French Revolution, on the other hand, was centered on putting an end to the monarchy and implementing a new style of government while also changing the social structure which favored the hereditary elites. Another difference is in relation to how the revolutions were fought. The Americans elected representatives who assumed powers of government and created their own currency which effectively cut off payments to Britain while the US organized an official army (495). The American Revolutioninitially put together two military powers which fought throughout the thirteen colonies. Although the British won most of the battles, the Americans would be able to form a competent military, with civilian support networks, that provided supplies and financial support (495). Although this was not quite enough, it took until the French intervened, as allies to the Americans, the British finally surrendered granting independence to these colonies. The French Revolution was, for the most part, all internal. It started when the Third Estate declared itself The National Assembly, this move made the king realized that the people planned for him to agree ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With sports, though, come the risk of concussions. What is a concussion? A concussion is a traumatic injury to the brain that temporarily disrupts its normal function. (Brzycki). There has also been a growing concern about coaches, trainers, and athletes awareness about concussions and the serious consequences that they may bring. That may leave some to wonder if their son or daughter s coaches are up to date with current concussioneducation and awareness. Concussions start with the athlete. The first step to being able to deal with concussions more effectively is by the athlete actually being able to detect symptoms, being brave enough to report symptoms, and actually reporting symptoms. The misunderstanding and lack of education about the seriousness of concussions can be very harmful to athletes. • 10. Descriptive Essay About The Barbeque Shack I head to my doom ten minutes earlier than I should have. I dread this day every year. This is the year that the Barbeque Shack opens. My boss called me into work on memorial day weekend. I pull in I can t help but to admire the clean landscaping. The bricks leading to the front door lined up orderly like soldiers before their superior. The crimson red and the white divine flowers lay in the middle of the outside dining patio with a rusty cast iron outline pig that was the symbol of the company. The crispy smell of the morning mow gave me a satisfactory sensation. The dew collected on my boat shoes as I slug to the shack. Customers assume the inside is clean and well maintained, but rather it is appalling. The shack is painted a wine red. I graze my fingers upon the painted wood door. The paint chips flew off like embers from a fire. I greet my co workers and boss with a cheerful, Good Morning! Big boss man respond with a lethargic, go get me a load of wood. They probably feed on my despair. The BBQ pit that cooks savory meat is devoured by a wheelbarrow stacked full of cedar wood. What people do not realize is that you have to move each log that is full of splinters and small critters with eight leg. Filling the rusty wheelbarrow requires your utmost concentration because it will flip over, and you will have to start over from square one. • 11. Roof Of The World 1) I believe that there are many ways that the author has chosen to set up a man and animal as competitors in the story On The Roof Of The World by Sir Charles G. D. Roberts. One of the reasons that the author has set up a man and an animal as competitors is that unlike normal circumstances where mankind is on top of the food chain, higher that every other living thing known, in this short story, the man and the bear are on approximately the same level of the food chain. As the bear is equipped with claws, the man evens himself out with the spear he has fashioned himself. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... D. Roberts has a lot to do with the story. The title describes the atmosphere itself and the happenings on the Arctic. For example, imagine the entire world is a two story house. As you know from a typical house with the windows unopened, the elements would not touch the basement and the first and second stories of the house, while the sides of the house are exposed to some of the elements. As most people know, the top of the house is exposed to almost everything the wind, rain, snow, hail and other elements. This is the same with the roof of the earth which is the Arctic. The arctic ranges from 50 celsius to 0 degrees celsius and in the book, it states it seemed to be the very roof of the world, all naked to the outer cold, this flat, vast of solitude, dimly outspread beneath the Arctic night (p. 159) which describes that nothing really happens in the Arctic like nothing would normally happen on the roof of a ... Because his father was king of the throne, Francis Joseph had become the emperor when his dad was abdicated near the end of the revolution in 1848. By the time Francis stepped upon the throne Austria s position as a European power was already in great decline. Later, Austria betrayed Russia in the Crimean War through 1853 1856 making a heavy impact in the Austrian and Russian relationship. A couple of years later there was a unification of Italy which brought great threats to the Italian Empire. In the decade that had followed Austria nearly lost all of their Italian possessions, such as Lombardy and Venetia. The conflict is based on the young waiter and the older waiter. There are three reasons how they bump heads with each other. The first reason is how the author s main purpose deals with these two conflicts. The second reason is because of the way the young is dealing the story. The final reason is the way the old is dealing with the story. Although there are some similarities in this story, but there are some differences between the young verses the old. First and foremost, the author s main purpose dealing with the young verses the old in the story. The author discussed the views of an older person with a younger person. In this case, the people that he used were the younger and the older waiter. The older waiter was one of the main characters in this story that the author used to describe the main purpose of his writing. The waiter stated in A Clean Well Lighted Place that the younger waiter could not stand up with dignity, that he was nothing of a man, and that it was nothing that the young waiter knew too well (Hemingway 5). • 16. Short Article, Gallows Humor And Medicine Essay Humor is something that has been scorned in the past and by the greatest minds of philosophy such as Plato and Aristotle. It was viewed by ancient societies as lacking seriousness and being distractive to the process of thinking. In any case, Plato condemned the association of humor with gods claiming that it was degrading to encourage it on human beings let alone the supernatural. Aristotle even emphasized that laughter is uneducated insolence. It is therefore quite the issue when humor is allied with a field as serious as Medicine. While these are more traditional views of humor, developments in psychology, show that humor is a crucial part of the subconscious mind. It is crucial for information processing of the human mind and allows human beings to move past depressing situations (Watson 37). This essay aims at analyzing Katie Watson s article, Gallows Humor in Medicine. It seeks to provide insight on the role and kind of humor in the medical field as well as respond to Watson s work. The essay mostly agrees with the article given its attempts to explain the role of humor as an important one in dealing with difficult situations in a better manner. It supports the article in criticizing the thought that the profession is a squeamish campaign in contradiction of pleasure. Firstly, the medical profession is a busy field and requires a great deal of commitment to understand the issues of life. It is as emotionally engaging as it is mentally and constantly leads to ... Don Pio Pico Don Pio Pico, a renowned figure of early Mexican/American culture, was known for his exquisite fashion sense, intelligence and leadership, whose family experience with early California authority and religion progressed the integration of both societies. During his childhood, Pio s father isn t just a symbol of his leadership, as he moves from a man of wealth and taste to an inspirational political force, whose father becomes a symbol of his political rise in defining his own identity. Nonetheless, I found the Pico mansion to be quaint, surrounded by growing grapes and many other native plants, like rosemary, agave, and lavender, along with pillars and skilled crafted objects by the family, perhaps, directly tied to their Mexican, Spanish, African and Italian roots. The Adobe is built of thousands of earthen blocks. The fact that most of the walls are original is a testament to the skill of the masons who built it. Our main points included the following: Miss Narwin had a personal issue with Philip and that is why she acted so cruelly towards him, Miss Narwin started the entire ordeal and was the real disturbance, and finally Philip had the right to hum in class due to the First Amendment. The opposition had several points as well, such as Philip was being disruptive, he twisted the story in his favor, and he was kindly asked to stop but repeatedly defied the teacher. Analysis Of Disabled And Out, Out Disabled by Wilfred Owen and Out, Out by Robert Frost are infamous for their powerful and impactful atmospheres and the ways in which they have creates them, some of the methods being shared and with some of the methods differing, which is what I intend to discuss in this essay. One way in which Disabled and Out, Out compare in the atmosphere is through their use of pity to evoke extreme emotions. Owen creates pity for the narrator through the strong contrast between his life before the war and after it.We can see that pathetic fallacy is used throughout when describing the post war society, with words such as dark , ghastly and solemn used to emphasise the narrator s internal feelings, which is evident by how the entire poem is essentially an internal monologue, which is often synonymous with internal darkness and a conflicting mind. Owen also uses the idea of isolation to create pity, by repeating phrases such as why don t they come to emphasise loneliness. Owen also refers to the narrator s lack of female attention as to evoke pity, especially when his disability is referred to as a queer disease . Frost also uses pity to evoke emotion throughout his poem. We can see this clearly when he writes Call it a day, I wish they might have said. This short sentence is foreboding and creates a sense that the latter lines will evoke pity and suffering upon the boy. The tragedy of the situation also evokes pity, especially as his condition rapidly worsens, with him ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But you cannot blame a debt that has been developing over the years even though it led to major health concerns, hurt the already poor economy and left thousands with nothing but fear. Flint Michigan was an up incoming town back in the eighties. General Motors had its largest plant (at the time) in Flint and this plant brought much of the population while helping the economy grow. GM created many employment opportunities for Flint residents until they began to downsize in the late eighties. This is when the debt began to grow. GM held much of the economy at this time so the downsizing impacted everyone in Flint. As GM downsized the poverty rates increased, Flint s government began looking for ways to make up the lost money. In 2011, Flint was 25 million dollars in debt and desperately looking for ways to reduce it (Dixon). The cityof Flint was now under a state of emergency and people began asking questions. Governor Rick Snyder made the decision with his appointed members to switch Flint s water supplyfrom the Detroit Water System to Flint s own river that ran through town. This switch was supposed to save the city of Flint nearly a hundred million dollars however, it did much more than that. The power the monsters have in their tails would have been meaningful for Dante s readers as it was commonly noted in medieval times that a beast s tail showed its ferocity and held much of its strength. This is illustrated by Brunetto Latini s descriptions of the dragon and the lion in his Li Livres dou Tresor, as well as in Revelations where the power of the horses lay...in their tails; for their tails were like snakes.(6) This association with serpents is also significant as the serpent was the first deceiver (7), establishing the deception and terror connected with these monsters which adds to the uncertain and disordered atmosphere in Inferno. What Are The Pros And Cons Of Federal Budgets The Balancing of State Federal Budgets The purpose of this paper is to analyze and determine the pros and cons of a balanced vs unbalanced financial system by comparing the nature of state budgets to the federal budget. States and local governments operate within the parameters of a balanced annual budget where their total expenditures equal their total revenues generated; however, a surplus can occur when their revenues exceed their expenditures as well as a fiscal deficit when their expenditures exceed their revenues. When state or local governments experience a fiscal deficit due to hardship like a natural disaster, they can petition the federal government for funding in order to reconcile their budgets. However, the federal government ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, the federal government has an artificially designated borrowing threshold beyond which the government is not authorized to borrow funds in order to manage over spending that is contributing to the fiscal deficit and this threshold is referred to as the national debt ceiling (Ross, 2015). The federal government has the ability to raise its own debt ceiling if needed with the approval of congress. This practice is largely in place because the federal government has the authority to print money and issue currency in order to help regulate the economy whereas this is out of state and local government s jurisdiction of fiscal power. When the federal government is approaching its debit ceiling, it will then borrow money in the form of treasury bonds in order to help balance the deficit spending. • 29. Metro Man As A Villain In The Metro Man Although Metro Man is portrayed as one who aims to serve Metro City and its residents, he acts as the indirect root of villainy in the city. While Megamind is portrayed as the villain early in the film, Metro Man is the real villain in Megamind (McGrath, 2010) as he acts in an extremely selfish manner throughout the film, as displayed in particular by his actions towards Megamind, and in this creates and supports continued actions of evil intent towards the people of Metro City. Metro Man involves himself in the creation of villainy through his ostracization of Megamind, encouraging him to become a villain, and his abandonment of Metro City in its time of need for purely selfish reasons. From the beginning of both of their lives on Earth, Metro Man acts to separate Megamind from the rest of acceptable society. He does this by initially dropping him in prison, and then later treating him as an outcast in school. Pushing Megamind from the rest of the population serves to provide him with the impetus to engage in chaotic and evil actions. Joseph Campbell described what the hero s journey consists of in saying, A hero ventures forth from the world of common day into a region of supernatural wonder... comes back from the mysterious adventure with power to bestow boons (as cited in Alsford, 2006, p. 24). Metro Man does not move through this journey, he never reaches a crisis, and he never goes on a mysterious adventure, however Megamind does go through this. In contrast to Metro Man, Megamind is forced out of society at the hands of Metro Man for years, but eventually comes back as a hero as the result of a traumatic event. Megamind is the obvious hero of the movie, and when compared to Metro Man who s clearly not the hero initially brought up to be. In the interim period, Megamind tries to do evil across the city, though this is only because he feels like an outcast due to how Metro Man treats him in school. Megamind is forced to confront his point of crisis for years as he is thrust from the world because of his clumsiness, forcing him to inflict pain and suffering on others. • 30. Duality And Sensitivity Essay 6Duality and Sensitivity The optimal solution for a linear programming problem can be calculated by utilizing the simplex method. Yet, we may still ponder on whether we have truly discovered the optimal solution of our linear model. Furthermore, we could be concerned on what to do with the surplus of resources at our hands. In addition, the parameters that we utilized to formulate our model may not reflect the actual parameters. Those values may have been simply estimates that would guide us in identify a best possible outcome. Therefore, we are required to conduct further analysis and determine if indeed we have achieved optimization. In linear programming, analyzing the concept of duality and sensitivity is extremely useful. It gives us reassurance that our optimal solution would be feasible in reality. If it was not the best solution, we can now focus on how to reach the optimal solution and optimize our given objective. The first issue that we may encounter is whether we utilized our surplus of resources wisely as we optimize our objective function. All linear programming problems have an associated linear programming problem called the dual [4]. We call our main problem the primal and the associated problem the dual. Analyzing the relationship of the optimization of both problems will give us good insight in weather resources were utilized wisely. The dual problem can be formulated by alternating our primal problem. If the primal problem s objective ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The authors propose a mixed integer programming based capacity planning tool to generate the contingency plan of the supply chain during disruptions, considering response time and congestion, especially critical when dealing with disruptions. This is in reference to the last decade disasters that affected the several supply chains for instance the Japan tsunami in 2011, September 11, 2001, to name a few. Contingency rerouting is applied to improve supply chain responsiveness to major disruptions (Nejad et al., 2014). Contingency planning is not a recipe for guaranteeing ... Even though Briony sent the wrong person to jail she couldn t look at Lola the same because she never opened her mouth to tell her the actual person was who raped her and that was mostly an obstacle that Briony had to face. The one thing that impacted the message to Briony about her conflict between everyone was mostly Cecilia and Robbie. Even though Briony still gave her sister the letter, that night she meet up with Robbie to discuses the letter but one thing led to another and they started having sex. • 40. Jaguar Student Activity Center Essay The best place on campus is undoubtedly the Jaguar Student Activities Center or JSAC. Walking in from the hot, muggy air into the breezeway, a plethora of things is going on at once: immediate relief from the heat because of the air conditioner, delicious smells wafting from the food court, and student and/or faculty events. It is a great location to meet new people and experiment socially in a safe environment. Despite all the activity, the JSAC is a relaxed space created for, and by students and it is a great space to spend time in between and after classes (JSAC). Unfortunately, even though Augusta University has such a diverse student body, people tend to seek out those that are similar to them ethnically and culturally. This can lead some to feel trapped in their social circles, lost in the crowd, or alone and uncomfortable in a new environment. Adrienne Rich describes this feeling as bumping my way against glassy panes... gathering myself up... then again taking off (63). In this quote, Rich is comparing herself to a bee that has been trapped within her house and is searching for an exit. She previously describes the trapped bee as looking for what it needs, just as I am, and, just like me, it has gotten trapped in a place where it cannot fulfill its own life (63). Just as Rich feels trapped within the confines of her limited view of feminism, some students feel trapped within their social circles and limited by perceived social boundaries. However, the JSAC ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. How Did Geography Affect Where Colonists Settled Essay Beginning in 1607, when ambitious English colonists settled in Jamestown, and continuing until the last of the thirteen colonies was established; geography was a substantial factor in the development of colonial America. The crops that essentially saved the colonists lives, such as tobacco, rice, and indigo, wouldn t have grown without a certain type and amount of soil to grow properly. Also, the Appalachian Mountains and the dense forests provided a barrier for the colonists, preventing them from going too far west right away, and causing the colonies to form in the arrangement they did. Finally, the population was the most dense in middle colonies, such as New York, New Jersey, Delaware, and Pennsylvania partly because of the mild... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This, in turn, made it so that the population were more dense, and there was a higher concentration of people. The dense forests of the eastern seaboard disallowed for large cities to be created right away. This geological factor forced colonists to spread out within the perimeters of the Appalachian Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean, without being too close together. Both of these factors could be overlooked easily enough, but did have a reasonable impact of the development of colonial America. Finally, the geography of the middle colonies, such as New York, New Jersey, Delaware, and Pennsylvania played a big role on the development and population of this area. In the sixteen and seventeen hundreds, the above colonies were the most populated of the thirteen establishments. There was plentiful and fertile soil, in which tobacco was heavily grown. The Susquehanna River also flowed through this region, opening the possibility of fur trade. Other minor rivers that were found in the middle colonies were gentle, which provided for easy transportation and fishing. The land in the middle colonies was broad and expansive, making it easy for even the middle class residents to create an enjoyable and profitable lifestyle. In conclusion, there were many factors that contributed to the development of the colonial America, but geography was clearly a sizable influence. Levi, Bar‐Haim, Kreiss and Fruchter (2016) provide effective psychotherapy approaches for treating combat veterans with chronic post traumatic stress disorder, which they show their efficacy with a great deal of support. The research is more comprehensive than most studies as it provides an assessment of the psychiatric status at baseline, post treatment and 8 12 months follow up using the Clinician Administered PTSD Scale, the PTSD Questionnaire, the Montgomery and Asberg Depression Rating Scale and the Psychotherapy Outcome Assessment and Monitoring System Trauma Version assessment questionnaire. However, the researchers did not conduct randomized controlled trials to determine treatment efficacy. Litz et al., (2009) added to the research on the treatment of PTSD by stimulating a critical examination of moral injury. The study makes use of the available literature and offers a working conceptual framework and a set of intervention strategies designed to repair moral injury, which is a strength also evident in Peterson et al. (2011). Lunney, Schnurr and Cook, (2014) compared the severity of PTSD symptoms in treatment seeking older and younger U.S. veterans with PTSD. The study uses a wide number of participants, which provides credibility to the research and can be relied upon on information regarding the effective treatment of PTSD. The researchers ... • 44. Utopian Urbanism That Forms Utopic Degeneration From recent years, utopian urbanism connects with the so called crisis of modernist urbanism that forms utopic degeneration. Utopia has developed to mean a community with a visionary system of political and societal perfection, where cities that function to improve the daily lives of its citizens; an ideal society, However these concepts are more often than not depicted as an impossible dream, yet too bold, too radical to ever exist in real life. Some utopian visions are focused on new technology, whereas others are on intact landscapes. In other occasions, some are based on new social orders, but all were combined under a radical avant garde and progressive architecture. It is this, their new and bold concepts that drive the imagination of architects and town planners. Although rarely realized in full, principles from some utopian visions have been adopted in part and have had significant influence on existing cities such as New York, Chandigarh and Paris. They are a catalyst for generating ideas and new forms of thinking that leads to, for better or for worse the many innovations in 21st century urban planning. Since utopian thinking can produce a vision of the future that is achievable, what is the connection between having a vision of the future, whether achievable or not, and utopian thinking? The concept of utopia, derived from Thomas Mores, in his famous text in 1516 where he refers a place as to both somewhere good and to nowhere. The connections between utopian ... • 46. The Impact Of The 20th Century On German Literature One of the few things that impacted literary movements in German literature in the 20th century was Expressionism and what the Germans refer to as Neue Sachlichkeit , which means new objectivity (Scherer, Conybeare MuМ€ller, 1906). However, historical events such as the first world war led to the division of the nation into west and east Germany. Therefore, the historical impact on literature differs in both sections. While the east reckoned with the teaching of Hungary philosopher Georg Lukacs, declaring themselves as the communist resistance of Nazism , which led to the birth of Socialist Realism (Bahr, Ryan, Jaeger, 2015), the political situation in the west paved the way for writers such as Bertolt Brecht, who through their work felt the need to fill the cultural vacuum created by the defeat of Nazism. The following essay will therefore discuss the impact of the 20th century on German speaking literature, after which it will analyse the responses of Bertolt Brecht and GГјnter Eich to the historical and political events. Bertolt Brecht in response to the first world war, which he experienced as a teenager wrote an essay to the phrase Dulce et decorum est pro patria morin , a poet by the Roman Horace, which almost ruined his pursuit for education at the time (Bertolt Brecht, 2017). In his essay, he described the recruitment of young soldiers under the disguise of dying for their country as a cheap propaganda for a specific purpose , arguing that only senseless ... • 47. Portrayal Of Women In The Odyssey Essay hough women play a central role in The Odyssey written by famous author Homer the portrayal and characterization of said women highlights the negative portrayal of women at the time as well as shows double standards that still plague our society today. All of the women are characterized with few traits, most of which only describe their looks, while the reader is constantly reminded of all of Odysseusgood traits, most of which have nothing to do with his looks. Even Penelope, who is portrayed as the ideal woman, is only ever described as beautiful and faithful . Sadly, this sexism is reflected in the Ancient Greek s patriarchal society in which women were considered the property of men and they were married off with or without consent at very young ages. Women play a central role in the Odyssey, yet due to the Ancient Greek s society prejudices the women are written in a way that clearly highlights the double standards of society and the way men used to portray women. In the society of Ancient Greecewomen were never in charge of their own decisions and often had little to no say in them and were often married at young ages and were judged, not by her own achievements, but by their looks, and the wealth and status of their fathers or husbands. Even Penelope seems to acknowledge this when she says My looks, my face, my carriage, were soon faded or lost. knowing that is what the people of the Ancient Greek society judged people on. • 48. Analysis Of Phantom Of The Opera A good film is when the price of dinner, the theatre admission and the babysitter were worth it (Alfred Hitchcock). A good filmmaker may believe that their film is amazing, but the success of the film truly lies in the hands of the audience. Every successful movie has appealed to an audience, but one has stood out for many years. Webber scratched the extra nonsense from Gaston Lerouxs version of Phantom of the Opera; and he focused on the elements that appeal to an audience. Any audience, young or old, all enjoy mystery, romance, sensuality, and a Byronic hero. Andrew Lloyd Webberwas able to create the most successful entertainment piece of all time because he focused on the traits that any audience wants, a little bit of mystery, romance, sensuality, and a Byronic hero. Mystery is an important factor in entertainment, allowing the audience to stay engaged with what is happening. Andrew Lloyd Webber incorporates mystery beautifully in his movie version of Phantom of the Opera. His mystery mainly comes from the setting of the Paris Opera House itself. The Opera House is filled with trap doors, contraptions, and a torture chamber, which the Phantom uses to his advantage. The Phantom gets Christine down into his secret lair because of a trap door located within the mirror in her room. FLATTERING CHILD, YOU SHALL KNOW ME, SEE WHY IN SHADOW I HIDE!
