An earthquake occurs when there is a shaking of the Earth,...
An earthquake occurs when there is a shaking of the Earth, caused by a buildup of energy in
volcanic or tectonic form ( Earthquakes ). Essentially, an earthquake results from sections of the
Earth moving, causing slippage. When two chunks of the Earth slip past each other, the point at
which this happens is called the fault plane. In fact, an earthquakebegins in the hypocenter beneath
the Earth s surface. Next, located right above the hypocenter is the epicenter (Wald). And finally,
the main, and most important thing to remember about earthquakes is that they are random, and
extremely hard to predict ( Earthquakes ).
Earthquakes happen when two tectonic plates touch each other. When those plates experience
tension and friction, they lock ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, a significant earthquake can develop with a magnitude reading 7.0 or higher, and it in
fact does happen from time to time ( Earthquakes ).
The third type of earthquake can be described as a volcanic earthquake. A volcanic earthquake
begins to form when magma is contained within the under most part of a volcano. When the
magma travels to the surface, it can break the rocks it flows through, in turn causing an earthquake.
As intense as it sounds, earthquakes resulting from a volcano only produce a magnitude of around
5.0. An event called volcanic tremor can also be an outcome of the magma collected frequently,
before a volcanic earthquake emerges. As the magma moves around, vibrations are given off,
leading to volcanic tremors ( Earthquakes ).
Among many events, earthquakes can cause landslides. When a landslide does happen as a result
of an earthquake, they are shallow, and rock and soil are disturbed when falling. But even so,
when a larger landslide occurs, which is not often, it still adds to the amount of the landslide.
Earthquake magnitude has relations with where a landslide happens, the distance of the landslide,
and the landslide volume. Unfortunately, it has been found that landslides caused by earthquakes
add to the decrease in landscapes (Jibson, 2013). However, regardless of the situation, there will
always be factors that affect how much damage is done as a consequence

Educator Training Essay
Educator Training Regardless of the years of athletic experience among a team of coaches and
teachers, an active training program will help staff members to stay informed about the
psychological dimensions of student athletes; thereby applying the first tenet of SLT. Smith and
Smoll examined the effects of providing positive athletic setting resulting in a 30 5% reduction in
athlete dropout rates. I appreciate the fact these results were equally positive among both boy and
girl teams, because its success gives credence to the need to provide Teachers and coaches with
training to mold their own behavior first in creating positive settings. Training should cover good

If a student has been modeling poor character, he needs to know that he has the power to turn his
behavior around with tools, such as imagery. With this technique, a student is guided to remember
situations and imagines making better choices with better outcomes. Smith and Smoll s study
indicates that the sooner imagery occurs after an incident, the stronger are its effects. Author,
coach, and father, Mike James tells his athletes that negative thoughts will creep in from time to
time; however, the key is whether we submit to these thoughts and emotions and let them control
us or whether we exercise our freedom of choice as respond a different way (James, 2017, p. 236).
Inspirational tools include allowing coaches to be social agents who label positive sporting
behavior, and practicing mental skills for improving moral reasoning. And when detrimental actions
occur, be prepared, because conduct issues will arise. Managing Conduct Issues How coaches react
to conduct issues can create positive learning opportunities, promote character development, and
create an opportunity to apply all the tenets of SLT. Begin with assessing the student and content to
develop fair and clearly defined guidelines and consequences. But when issues arise, discuss the
wrongness or rightness of an action, providing clear expectations for ethical behavior. James

19th Century Jewish Culture Essay
Emancipation and enlightenment were pivotal aspects of Jewish history and culture beginning in
the eighteenth century and continuing through to the twentieth century. Influential political figures
such as Mendelssohn laid the framework for Jewish political and social freedoms. This was a
direct response to the oppression and anti Semitism Jewish people have faced for hundreds of
thousands of years. These harsh restrictions placed on Jewsworldwide included, the prohibition of
full citizenship, coerced into assimilation, programs, all eventually leading up to the terrors of the
Holocaust. The late nineteenth century, beginning with the year 1881 was an especially critical
time for Russian Jewry. During this time, Tsar Alexander II was assassinated. Russian citizens
naturally used the Jews as scapegoats as it was speculated that the Jews were responsible for his
untimely death. This was highly detrimental for the Jewish people as anti semitism soon became a
state policy in Russia. As a result, Russian Jews were subjected to brutal violence also known as

Marketing consists of all the activities to facilitate the exchange. Within this societal
perspective, then (1) the makers (2) what they are marketing and (3) their potential markets all
assume broad dimensions. The category of marketers might include, in addition to business
firms, such diverse social units as (a) a political party trying to market its candidate to the public
(b) the director of an art museum providing new exhibits to generate greater attendance and
financial support (c) a labor union marketing its idea to members and to company management;
and (d) professors trying to make their courses interesting for students. In addition to the range
of items normally considered as products and services, what is being marketed might include (a)
ideas such as reducing air pollution or contributing to the red cross (b) people, such as new
football coach or a political candidate and (c) places, such as industrial plant sites or a place to for
a vocation. In a broad sense markets include more than the direct consumers of products services
and ideas. Thus a state university s market includes the legislators who provide funds, the citizens
living near the university who may be affected by university activities and the alumni. A business
firms market may include government regulatory agencies, environmentalists, and local tax
assessors. Definition of Marketing As you already know there are

Subsistence Patterns Of Anthropology
Horticulture is defined as the production of plants using a simple nonmechanized technology
(Nanda and Warms 2006:148), while Webster s Dictionary defines horticulture as the art or science
of growing fruits, vegetables, plants, flowers, or trees. When most people think of horticulture, they
simply think of gardening or farming. Most people do not associate horticulture with culture itself
or how horticulture relates to anthropology, or the study human culture. In all actuality, horticulture
is a major part of cultural anthropology. The groups that hunt and grow food, and the associated
eating rituals or ceremonies associated with food differs by culture or environment. This paper will

(Carvalho et al. 1989:239) The Yanomamo Indians of the Amazon rain forest are organized by
patrilineal kinship relationships, patrilineal descent from ancestors, and marriage exchanges
between kinship/descent groups. In the Yanomamo tribes, the men are the leaders. The male
leaders positions are mostly because of marriage patterns and kinship. Yanomamo people often
participate in arranged marriages and the tribesmen often take multiple wives. In addition to
polygamy, cross cousin marriages are also a part of the Yanomamo culture. Woman are more or

a good deal of time weaving baskets and other small crafts and also engage to some degree in

The men of the tribe are responsible for the distribution of food for the Yanomamo people. Males do

Diet Coke Twisted Mango Commercial
I thought that the Diet Coke Twisted Mango commercial was very poorly done. The commercial
featured actress Hayley Magnus, who takes a sip of Diet Coke and starts dancing uncontrollably.
Overall, I thought that the commercial was very annoying and ineffective. The main reason that I
felt the commercial was bad was because the dancing was very distracting. The poor dancing
drew my attention away from the product itself. As I watched the poor dancing I was cringing.
The dancing was so bad that my assumptions carried over to what Diet Coke Twisted Mango will
likely taste like (very poor). In addition to the poor choreography, it seemed like Diet Coke put very
minimal time and effort into the making of the commercial. And after researching

Mandatory Vaccination Argumentative Essay
Controversy over mandatory vaccination has become a highly debated topic in our society.
Andrew Wakefield is known for starting the anti vaccination group . In 1998, he published a
study stating that vaccines had an association with increasing rates of autism. It was eventually
proven that he falsely recorded data to support his theory and he lost his medical license as a
result (Andrew, 2016). Even with his data being proven false, many parents are still worried and
scared of vaccinating their children. Several studies since then have not been able to find any
association with vaccines and increasing rates of autism, further proving his study was falsified.
With factual studies and their results, I believe better educating parents about the facts of
vaccinationand eliminating vaccination exemptions based on personal beliefs woud be the most
beneficial resolution to his debate.
There have been several studies attempting to find any sort of association with Autism and
vaccination. One example was an analysis of data available from three managed care organizations.
The Institute of Medicine recorded data by taking the number of ... Show more content on

There have been a few measles outbreaks in the past that have occurred, and when doctors took a
deeper look, they found it was because of unvaccinated people spreading the disease. For
example, from January of 2008 to April 2008 there were five small outbreaks and sixty four cases
of measles. Every single one of the cases except for one were unvaccinated (Omer et al, 2009).
This is an example of one innocent and vaccinated civilian being punished for the choices of those
around him, because although vaccines increase immunity, they are not 100% effective. Another
example of this was in Washington State in April and May of 2008. There were nineteen cases and
eighteen of them were unvaccinated children (Omer et al,

Essay about God Is Not Great
In his book God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything, Christopher Hitchens dissects and
criticizes the various claims of religions and the tragic events that have been caused by various
religions. The title of the book sums up the arguments of Hitchens in this book in the fact that he
makes many arguments of why religionpoisons everything. The majority of the chapters in this
book discuss why he believes religion to be a manmade notion that has led to more trouble than
anything else in the world. Most of his focus is on the three Abrahamic religions of Christianity,
Islam, and Judaism but he does fit in criticism of other religions as well. The topics he chooses to
discuss range from the sketchy origins of Mormonism to the... Show more content on

Christopher Hitchens makes the argument of the nonexistence of God by using the examples
of the faults of religion then he concludes his book with a chapter on a need for the abolishment
of religion to study human kind without its presence. Hitchens arguments begin strongly at the
start of chapter two. The themes of this chapter and that of chapter four deal with how religion
is effective at ending lives. The discussion in the second chapter revolves around the political
situation in which violent outbreaks have been caused by religious people. A good number of
pages in this section deal with a response to a question he was given. The question in Hitchens s
words is I was to imagine myself in a strange city as the evening was coming on. Toward me I
was to imagine that I saw a large group of men approaching. Now would I feel safer, or less safe,
if I was to learn that they were just coming from a prayer meeting? (18). The answer from
Hitchens is that he would be scared and the reason he gives is due to his experiences from various
places that have had struggles with politics that stem from religious causes. His view on these
conflicts leads him many times to the statement that religion poisons everything (22). Chapter four
talks of another way religion ends life in the form of the risks they take on individual health. The
first example he uses is that of polio vaccine. In Nigeria, the

The American Dream In Ta-Nehisi Coates Invisible Man
The American Dream and its projected image, much like the American system, is damaged. Not
only has the American Dream become a myth for most of the population, but it is rendered near
impossible for black people. Ta Nehisi Coates basically presents the Dream as a fallacy and plainly
nonexistent in his letter to his son, while the protagonist in Ellison s novel does actually carry and
achieve the Dream in a beautiful and treasured way throughout the book. Nevertheless, the
American Dream in Invisible Manwould prove to be too fragile and break when in full contact with
reality. Throughout his journey, the protagonist finds motivation in himself more than anywhere

Education, too, is a weapon. However, it is not hard to understand why going to school can be
fearful for black children of this nation: they are three times more likely than their white peers to
be suspended or expelled, according to U.S. Department of Education. Along with other
institutions, education is discriminatory down to the system s very roots. Ta Nehisi Coates would
most probably agree, having received nothing short of fearful education he earned growing up in
Baltimore (Hagan 60). He explains that rather than learning to trust his education and educators, he,
as a African American, cannot say that [he] truly believed any of them (Coates 26). Just as any
establishment, education has been crafted and taught by the White Man, which is exactly why one
simply cannot blame Coates or the Black Man for being skeptical. While the nature of education is
white, so might be explanations given to children throughout adolescence. Coates and critics are
particularly appalled at the blatant exoneration still taking place in schools today with educators
speaking of personal responsibility in a country authored and sustained by a criminal
irresponsibility (Daniels 3). Unfortunately, being an educator does not make one credible, actually
quite the opposite. Although not explicitly, working in education does make one the inevitable
embodiment of the system s manifold values, both positive and negative, and in the eyes of those
betrayed by it, someone hard to trust and believe. As critic Wang phrased it, A black minister who
gives a wonderful speech about the importance of education turns out to be blind (Wang 1). In
essence, the minister is in the wrong, regardless of his individual experience with education. It is an
institution that cheats black people. Its educators are still predominantly white, it fuels the school
to prison pipeline,

The Little Chinese Seamstress Character Analysis
Of course not everybody in the world likes to talk about exactly what they are feeling or thinking
all the time. There is a certain degree of things that generally are kept private. However, in the
book The Little Chinese Seamstress by Dai Sijie, the main character (who doesn t ever reveal
his name to the audience, so is simply called the Narrator), comes off as an especially closed off
character specifically in the beginning half of the story. He rarely ever speaks what he is
actually thinking, which makes him a kind of difficult character to relate to. The Little
Seamstress, a local beauty, has caught his eye along with every other male in the village , but
he struggles with how to express his feelings because he is not used to doing so, and because his
best friend (Luo) is dating her. On pages 161 163, Luo has left the village and asked the Narrator
to keep an eye on the Little Seamstress while he is away. However, even though the Narrator
keeps his word, he can t help but feel attracted to her and an inner battle between what he wants
and what is right begins. In this part of the story, the Narrator feels torn between his loveand
affection towards the Little Seamstress and his commitment/promise to Luo. Here, the Narrator
finally portrays to what extent he feels towards her, but does so very subtly (which is fitting seeing
as that s who he is a character: altogether reserved).
With the job that the Narrator has been tasked with, he is certainly not neglecting his

The Events Of The 1942 Bataan Death Essay
The events of the 1942 Philippines Bataan Death March reflect the Japanese views on surrender
and explain the reason why a mass execution followed their enemy s surrender. Japan s forced,
unconditional surrender to end World War II demonstrates the beginning of a Japanese cultural
evolution. The following excerpts from an uncovered journal written by Joseph Daniels, an

of the 1942 Philippines Bataan Death March. December 8, 1941 Joseph Daniels, Pvt. U.S.
Marine Corp It was a bright, sunny morning in the Philippines. I woke to the sound of birds
chirping and the quiet chatter of my fellow soldiers who had begun to prepare for the long day

many sacrifices of an American soldier a position which I served with absolute honor and pride. I

Narcissistic Stereotypes
The youngest generation obsesses over gaining approval in a way unprecedented by the past. This
obsession stems from the increase of narcissistic attitudes found in children, including
overconfidence, a deep need for admiration, and a lack of empathy (Mayo Clinic Staff). The
skyrocketing growth of social networking and the increase in the prevalence of superficial
celebrities shown in the media only enhances narcissistic behaviors. However, these attitudes are
initially caused by the actions of parents. An occurring shift in parenting styles centers around
rewarding kids even when the child s amount of effort does not warrant praise. This type of award

The biggest influence of personality are childhood experiences and the way in which parents choose
to raise their kids. The shift in parenting styles contributes to the growing levels of narcissistic
attitudes presented in the youngest generation. Because of the shift in values, the media evolved to
highlight vain celebrities instead of focusing on the successes of brilliant, hard working people.
Social media takes away the emotional involvement in relationships and replaces those feelings
with shallow gratification that causes people to grow an unhealthy attachment to the social
network. Nothing can replace the convenience of social media, but if society changes the way it
views online relationships then the focus will shift from having online relationships to improving

The process of getting milk is often unethical. Like humans, dairy cows still need to go through
pregnancy to have milk. In order to get as much milk as possible from cows, their owners often
take newborn dairy calves from their mothers within the first 12 hours. In this way, cows will
not develop a deep bond with calves. Thus, cow owners can make cows go through this circle
more easily and quickly. The living conditions for these cows are usually not suitable for them to
live either. In order to maximum profits, owners often place cows inside crowded pens to save
money. Many cows cannot go outside to breathe fresh air and feel the sunshine for most of their
life. According to a 2002 U.S. Department of Agriculture report, tail docking, the practice of
cutting off the ends of the tails of dairy cows, is found in about half of American dairy farms in
the attempt to reduce the incidence of leptospirosis for milkers. Even though these treatments are
reasonable and economic if people see the problem from the cow owners perspective, it is not
ethical for animals at all. Yet, with increasing demand for dairy products, milk manufacturers will
not stop their unethical treatments. In order to stop these, the first move people need to make is
not to convince cow owners to be ethical but is to stop drinking milk to solve the problem from its

Lord Of The Flies Pessimism
William Golding s Lord of the Flies contains the core tone of pessimism and cynicism that it
inherited from its author s perspective on life. It takes place in World War II, particularly during
the child evacuations of Operation Pied Piper. However, Golding wrote the novel during the

The Cheer Of The Football Cheer Squad
Throughout the years, I have participated in many activities during high school. I have
participated in Norwalk Cheer all four years in various sports: competition, wrestling, boys
basketball, and football. My senior year I was honored to receive the opportunity to be the cheer
captain of the football cheer squad. Another activity I participated in was Student Council. I was
elected treasurer my junior and senior year. This meant that I was in charge of budgeting for
dances. Considering I was in charge of the money, I often was the one decorating for dances as
well. We also run the food can drive and Little Kids Christmas. Little Kids Christmas is about
giving gifts to children who are less fortunate in the Norwalk community. This includes anything
from low income to a parent in the military overseas. We also fundraise for the Norwalk
leadership scholarship through activities like the Lakewood Lock In, where Lakewood students
pay a small fee for a night of fun activities. My friend Joe and I were once upset that students at
Norwalk only do community service because it is required to graduate. To try to solve the
problem, we have started a community service club called Student Union. I am Vice President
and once again in charge of funding. This year we were more focused on fundraising so students
in later years can use the money to do large scale community projects. Through my idea of a pop
can drive, we have raised nearly $1,200 for years to come. While focusing on

Into The Wild Journey
While reading the book Into the wild by Jon Krakauer, I stumbled upon a video entitled
Iconoclasts: Part II where Krakauer and Sean Penn; the director of the film Into the wild
traveled to Bus #142 and discussed the events that happened to Chris McCandless that led to his
demise. In this short clip, Penn was seen mentioning the concept of being cautious in life. He
said, caution can be something that keeps you alive but it can also be a disease. He said it as if
caution is something that grows as you get older. You don t notice it at first but when time
progresses it becomes more and more prominent in your life, just like a disease. The medicine for
this caution is being courageous. It is only by being courageous that you can stagnate the

Motivation In Hamlet
In William Shakespeare s dramatic play Hamlet, Shakespeare develops an insanely complex
character in Hamlet, complete with ambiguous motives and unpredictable and often rash actions.
Hamlet s descent into madness begins when his father is murdered by Claudius, his uncle.
Following his father s unexpected death Hamletseems to lose control of every single aspect of his
life. He is strangely unwilling to act in his father s name and kill Claudius, yet he acts as if
avenging his father is his primary motive throughout the entire play. Why does he act the way he
does? What causes his hesitation in avenging his father but his swiftness in nearly any other event?
It seems Hamlet s frustration must be rooted in something other than just his father s... Show more

Their affection towards each other indefinitely extends beyond what could be considered
entirely maternal love. Under Freudian ideas, Hamlet should be in direct competition with his
Father for his Mother s affection if he has an Oedipus Complex, specifically sexual affection. In
Hamlet s opening soliloquy this competition and jealousy become evident, he proclaims, Must I
remember? Why, she would hang on him /As if increase of appetite had grown (I.ii. 143 144).
Hamlet s frustration and disgust with his parents relationship before his father s death is
extremely evident within this quote. He seems mad at his mother simply for being in love with
his father, which is highly unusual for an ordinary person. Moreover, following his father s
death his mother almost immediately remarries to his uncle which causes further frustration. As
expected, Hamlet is incredibly uneasy at this. He displays his angst exclaiming, She married. O,
most wicked speed, to post/ With such dexterity to incestuous sheets!/ It is not nor it cannot
come to good./ But break, my heart; for I must hold my tongue. (I.ii. 161 164) Indeed outrage at
his mother s quick remarriage is warrantable; however, the way in which he addresses his
grievances with the marriage is peculiar and not one s that would come from a platonic son. One
of his main problems is the incestuous sheets which of course is a reference to his mother and his
uncle s sexual relations. This is not the only instance in which Hamlet becomes disgusted with his
mother s sexuality, several times later on in the play he laments and becomes disgusted at the
thought of their relations. His grievances towards these circumstances would not warrant
proclaiming Hamlet indeed has an Oedipus Complex if he didn t seem to be so obsessed or
bothered by his mother s sex life throughout the play. In an attempt to conceal his extreme jealousy

Essay On The Roaring Twenties
The 1920 s were a time of drastic change in America. All of the inventions that were made and all
the new laws were passed during this time was a major factor of the 20s. It was also the time of
The Jazz Age and the flappers. But the 20s had a negative aspect to it which people call the dark
side of the twenties . Crime rates were increasing because of the prohibition of alcohol. People
began configuring groups and fought against others to win control over a specific area. Nathan
Leopold and Richard Loeb were two of the many people who strived to commit the best crime they
could think of, but the crime they committed was brought to trial and ended up being known as the
trial of the century. Leopold and Loeb both came from wealthy families... Show more content on

They poured hydrologic acid on the body and burnt his clothing. Unfortunately for them, that did
not work out because Franks body was found and the police informed Bobby s parents before
they were able to give Leopold and Loeb the ransom that they asked for. Because of the obvious
evidence that was found, like Leopold s glasses lying next to Bobby s body, and the ransom
letter that had been typed with the same typewriter as the one he uses in school, they had no
choice but to confess that they were guilty. Clarence Darrow was hired to defend Leopold and
Loeb during the trial. Darrow was very well known and he had a respectable reputation. It was a
bit of a surprise when he accepted the offer of being the defendant for this trial because he
usually defends the underprivileged and people who have no money. Darrow claimed that his
central reason of why he accepted this trial was because he wanted to make the point that the
death penalty is never the answer because it does not deter criminals from committing more
crimes. Darrow made the wise choice of making Leopold and Loeb plead guilty in order for the
judge to make the decision instead of the jury. He brought in psychiatrists and they described
Leopold and Loeb as mentally ill. Later, the state brought in psychiatrists and proved that they were

Compare And Contrast Poe And Steven King
Many say that the hardest part of making a story, not just good, but spectacular, is not the
conclusion, or title. The hardest part of writing successfully is the idea the author must generate in
order to tell his or her tale. Steven King claims that Our job isn t to find these ideas but to recognize
them when they show up. Edgar Allan Poe, however, claims that to truly write it must be as precise
as a mathematical equation. Although the difference between the way these to authors write is
extreme, one letting the story control itself, and the other writinga ridged formula, they do have
some similarities.
Steven King believes that a good story is two ideas coming together to make something new. His
approach to writing is one of simplicity. He lets the characters control their own destinies.
However, Steven Kings stories oven hold a darker underlying meaning to them. Though he says he
does not control his characters he often related them to his own life subconsciously. In some of
them the main characters suffer from abuse that they cannot escape from, very much like he
suffered from substance abuse. While Steven King refrains from relying on story but rather on
situation, while Poe thrives in the story. Edgar Allen Poe believes that ideas should be formed in a
step by step manner. He writes stories should begin with a climax, and claims that he ... Show more

That is not to say that both sides do not contain beauty. Often Edgar Allen Poe and Steven King
come across as dark and brooding in their writing referring to deeper or unknown meanings and
plots. While Edgar Allen Poe wrote on realistic tragedy, through a mathematical equation, he did not
make it brash, and painfully factual. He strove to find artistic piquancy, that might serve as a
foundation for his story. Although these two authors have many differences, there unrevealed

The Importance Of City Budget Cuts
City budget cuts have a dramatic effect on neighborhood associations. Cutting services and
closing fire stations will have far reaching ramifications. Once these cuts are made, they are
seldom ever given back, and if they are it is with great difficulty to the constituents. There are a
number of actions that a neighborhood association can take to combat these types of cuts and
express their concerns. One of the first things that can be done is to petition the elected officials
and ask for them to follow a different course in trying to balance the budget. Use of a petition is an
acceptable way to demonstrate the importance of the issue and documents in writing the issues and

Object 1: The Moon
Next to the Sun, the moon is the most recognizable object in the night sky, and is Earth s only
natural satellite. It has been estimated that the moon formed somewhere in the region of 4.45
billion years ago, just a measly 30 50 million years after the origination of the Solar System. While
there are many hypotheses that try to account for the formation of the moon, the one that is backed
the greatest is the theory that the moon was formed when a large mass roughly the size of Mars
collided with the newly formed Earth, this sending out planetary material into the same orbit of
the Earth. This material then underwent the process of accretion and formed what we now know
as the moon. With modern laser altimetry, scientists have been able to accurately measure the
topography of the moon. The most apparent topographic feature on the moon is located on the
southern pole, is referred to as the Aitken basin, and stretches nearly 1400 miles in diameter. This
is the largest crater on the moon and the largest known crater in the Solar System. Not only is this
the widest crater on the moon, but its floor is also the lowest point on the surface of the moon.
The dark spots that are visible with the naked eye are called maria, and they are actually hardened
pools of ancient basaltic lava. Next to the maria, the most commonly seen features of the moon are
the impact craters that pepper the entire surface.

Stereotyping happens all the time, more than people seem to believe it does. Appearance,
location, and race all deal with how people as well as police authority characterize individuals
without truly knowing how that person is. Race is one of the biggest factors when it comes to
criminalization because of what people see on the media and from what they are told. It usually
is the younger generation that are viewed as criminals not only because of where they live and
who they associate themselves with, or with what is seen on the media but also because some
young people come from a family history of criminals. The issue here is that not all young people

The media is a source of contribution to how society believes that police figures should punish
certain races because they believe that a certain race is more of a threat to them and their community
than another race.
In spite of the media and police authorities determining who are the main race/group of criminals;
this does not take away from the other issue that youngsters face. Even though they come from a
area of high crime rates, and/or come from the same racial background that is sought out to be a
threat to others, a wide group of these youngsters are ones that are not involved in any act of
crime, or gang, they go to school, and participate in community programs, but yet are still
stereotyped as criminals because of their appearance. According to Rios who interviewed a boy
named J.T. he states, Despite actively avoiding delinquency and never being arrested or

J.T. also told Rios that even though he tried to stay away from trouble, authority figures often
implicated him in the deviance and crime that his friends committed, (143). This was a boy who
got good grades in school, had a mother who worked hard, who did what she could to discipline
him well, and who participated in an afterschool program at the ESYC, but since he had friends
who were involved in gangs, or other types of crime he was also seen as guilty. Many young boys

Grieving for Children and Adults
Grief can t be shared. Everyone carries it alone. His own burden in his own way (Lindbergh).
Grieving the loss of a loved one can be the most emotionally draining time of any human being s
life. Not only is this a time for saying good bye to the ones we hold dear in our hearts, but it is
also a time for change, change that is not seen as pleasant or embraced. This change is continuing
on in life without the ones we have lost. For the majority, this experience is difficult but most have
the support and love of family to make it through, but for others, this can be a lonesome and maybe

But if a child does wish to participate, it is helpful to them in getting closure. During grieving
children will feel the same pain, confusion, and fear just as any adult will. Family and those that
are close to the deceased are not the only ones who feel anguish. They aid in grief counseling and
handling the departed. Funeral directors may help a family deal with a loss through grief
counseling themselves or refer families to a grief therapist. Either way, a huge part of a funeral
director s job is to show compassion and empathy towards families during this difficult time. It is
a fine line when dealing with emotions while being a mortician or a funeral director. They have to
show sympathy and support to the family, but they cannot let their emotions get in the way of their
work because they still have a job to do. Morticians or embalmers might not deal with loved ones
of the deceased directly, but they also are affected. Witnessing tragedy after tragedy and attending
countless funerals can take a toll on any mortician s mental and emotional health. A mortician s
degree of sympathy may also vary depending on the circumstances of the death. Andrew Weeks, a
director of his own funeral says I hate senseless death. Old people are expected to die, children are
not (Weeks). While death is upsetting in any situation, a mortician might feel more saddened by the
death of a younger person, such as a

How to Talk to Girls at Parties by Neil Gaiman
In Neil Gaiman s short story, How to Talk to Girls at Parties, Gaiman takes you on an out of the
world encounter that occurs to two young teenage boys. The story starts off with Enn and Vic,
the two young boys, who are trying to find a party by Croydon station. Vic is anxious to go to
the party to meet some girls while Enn is more shy and apprehensive about talking to girls.
When they finally find the party Vic goes off to mingle with a girl named Stella and Enn meets
some very unique girls who tell him stories about traveling the universe and swimming in the
sun. Enn starts to get friendly with one of the girls and right when he s about kiss her Vic comes
running to Enn saying that they need to go right now. When they finally get outside Enn sees that
Vic is crying and scared out of his mind, but he never tells Enn what happened, but it is implied
that the girls were aliens. The theme of this story would be that maybe guys and girls really are
from different worlds. Gaiman develops his theme by using setting, point of view, irony, and
dialogue. The story is told by Enn, the young boywho is reluctant to go to the party because he s
not really good at talking to girls. Because Enn is telling the story from his point of view we are
able to understand very quickly that Vic is clearly the ladies man and that Enn is not. This puts Vic
almost in a higher and more dominant position than Enn. The way that Enn talks about girls makes

White Privilege Analysis
I recently read a news article that almost seemed like satire to me. It was about how a
Connecticut town s diversity council held an essay contest and its prompt was to discuss how
white privilege had impacted the lives of people in the town. As you could expect from a
predominantly white, suburban town, the essay contest received backlash. The public was
outraged and became defensive. One of the people in the town is quoted in saying, There are no
barricades here. Nobody says if you are black or whatever, you can t move here (Theroot.com).
The sheer oblivion and refusal to discuss the existence of racismin a primarily white town is the
epitome of white privilege.
Privilege is defined as a right, immunity, or benefit enjoyed only by a person beyond the
advantages of most (Dictionary.com). If we live in a country where even the discussion of the
privilege of causes controversy, we are living in a state of denial. Efforts to engage in political
discussion are too often deemed as inappropriate or offensive. The only way to understand white
privilege is to maturely engage in conversations about the topic. America is founded on diversity

The Three Creation Myths
Question One
The signs of miracles and or Magic discussed in the creation myths
Each of the creation myths reveals some form of supernatural power beyond human understanding.
One common magic that is common is creation from nothing . It is believed that a supreme deity
who existed from the beginning of time solely participated in creation. With the emptiness that
existed, the Supreme Being creates through uttering words or body secretions
(Pinsent, 18). He then organizes the world into the form that it exists presently. It is also a common
belief that the supreme deity has power to give life to human through his breath. As much as he
could engage in physical creation, he also shared the life in them to humans. Certain creatures are

order is maintained. Negritos myth brings out the ideas that creation took place through thoughts or

URL (Uniform Resource Locator, previously Universal Resource Locator) is the unique address
for a file that accessible on the Internet, is a reference to a web resource that specifies its location
on a computer network and a mechanism for retrieving it. (Rouse)
Most web browsers display the URL of a web page above the page in an address bar. A typical URL
could have the formhttp://www.example.com/index.html, which indicates a protocol (http), use to
access the file resource; a hostname/domain name (www.example.com), that identifies a specific

Like a key to the door, by entering the URL of a website in the web browser s address line, you can

A good URL is important to web analytics. Having the keywords inside the long URL to be user

Robert Frost, an American poet, wrote in his poem, The Road Not Taken, Two roads diverged in
a wood, and I I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. Santiago of
Paulo Coelho s The Alchemist has that split road, two decisions: one that is unpredictable and
one that is safe. If he makes the safe and popular choice, he knows he will regret it and always
wonder what would have happened. If he makes the unpredictable choice, the one that is chosen
less, he will follow his heart, and find his treasure. Santiago decides, and is following his heart
through his journey to the Pyramids to find his treasure. In the novel, The Alchemist, by Paulo
Coelho, Santiago learns, Remember where your heart is, there you will find your treasure. First,
Santiago learns a valuable lesson about selfawareness. Next, Santiago understands a new feeling he
is experiencing. Last, Santiago unexpectedly learns a new truth about his treasure.
To begin, Santiago learns a valuable lesson about self awareness. For example, while Santiago is
talking to King Melchizedek, he tells Santiago a story of a wise man who gave a spoon with oil
to a boy, and told him to walk around the palace. The boy does, but does not see any of the
wonderful things around him, yet when he looks at those things, he drops the oil, Santiago learns
the lesson from the story: The secret of happiness is to see all of the marvels of the world, and
never to forget the drops of oil in the spoon (35).

Impact Of Small Scale Business In Small Business
In the Academy Marketing Studies Journal, it states, Since 2008 the number of small businesses
using social media has doubles as their leader seek to create visibility and awareness, to identify
and attract new customers, and to reinforce or change their companies respective perceived brand
images. Since marketingtrends follow social media so closely, financial crisis can occur if
businesses are unable to adapt to their target audience s needs. If the businesswishes to thrive and
continue to evolve with modern trends, then an awareness of ever changing strategies is critical to
success. Small businessowners start off with a concept and a goal of meeting a need in their
community to the best of their ability, however, recently large corporations have become more
prevalent in meeting those same needs at a larger scale. Therefore, small businesses have
encountered a higher number of crisis because they could not compete with the larger corporations.
The Journal of Entrepreneurship Development states, A system is considered to be strong when its
smallest individual components are strong, self organized and controllable... a well organized small
scale industry in the strong quantum for large scale production. This article highlights a concept
that the nations likelihood for experiencing financial crisis is attributed to the strength of its small
scale industry. Small size enterprises have been especially hit hard by global crisis due to their size
and limited resources, and

Coyote, Skunk, and the Prairie Dogs
Coyote, Skunk, and the Prairie Dogs
While I find it rather creative to imagine a skunk and a coyote to conspire together to murder
prairie dogs and rabbits, and although I feel I am doing a disservice to hundreds of years of
Navaho storytellers, I am going to attempt to creatively edit parts of the story Coyote, Skunk,
and Prairie Dogs as a written works, and retool it so that it makes more sense as a modern
children s fairy tale. Not that children would be interested in a story about killing and eating
prairie dogs, but I am going to attempt to keep the plot, storyline and outcome as similar to the
Navaho trickster tale as possible.
Some things that I feel could be improved is the story needs more description of the events for better

The hated one is washed out.
There were rabbits and other animals and even ground squirrels. Those animals that are food for Ma
ii were gathered together; now they were dancing at that meeting.
First Golizhii said, It s true, it s true! Let s have one of you fast runners run over there to find out.
Then Jackrabbit ran there and ran back saying, It s true!
Then Cottontail ran there and, It s true! he said, running back.
Then Prairie Dog ran, and, It s true! he said running back.
At that time there was a big gathering around Ma ii s body. They were dancing. The hated one is
dead, they were saying. The club is beside him; they were hitting him in the ribs.
Then they continued their celebrating, and more and more animal people came.
Then that evil Golizhii remembered Ma ii s plan. When you all are dancing, while you are looking
up, while you are saying, you say, Dance in that manner, you tell them while you re in charge there,
shilna ash, he had said.
All the small animals were dancing.
Then: Waay up there something is moving by overhead, Golizhii pointed out.
When they were all looking up, Golizhii sprayed upward so that his urine fell in their eyes.
The animals were rubbing his urine from their eyes. Oh, so the one who is hated is dead, is he?
Ma ii said jumping up.
He grabbed the clubs from under him. He used the clubs on them. They were all clubbed to death.
Then: Let us cook them by burying them in

Symbolism In The Film Witness
Throughout the film many references to symbolism are depicted in the film Witness, which
provides intricacy and emphasis to the film. Many aspects of symbolism are present throughout the
film, predominately through the use of certain filmic techniques. Several scenes of Buckley s text
were illustrated through the use of silhouettes. A silhouette is a significantly engaging filmic
technique, as it is primarily relies on interpretation dictated by the individual viewer s mindset.
Through the utilisation of a silhouette the details of certain scenes are minimal and provides
mysteries, which the viewers have to interpret, hence the viewer subconsciously projects their own
hopes, fears, and mood onto the silhouette. Due to being institutionalised

Physical Environment In Africa
It is easy to forget about the trials and tribulations of the physical world because we are constantly
being distracted by the hustle and bustle of our daily lives. Between rising skyscrapers, expanding
cities, and growing populations many forget about the ground they walk on and how their actions
impact the long term use of the land we capitalize on every day. In Africa, the physical environment
has a huge impact on what plants and vegetation grow throughout the continent, affecting how its
inhabitants live their daily lives. It is through Africa s physical environment and climatevariability
that determines the continent s diverse vegetation species and drives local economies.
Africa s Physical Environment
Africa s physical environment is a vast piece of land due to several factors. A large reason as to
why the continent is so large is because of the number of cratons that exist throughout the continent,
which contain areas that are composed of ancient crystalline basement rock (Child, Lesson 2.1,
2017). Due to its long dated history, Africa has a very complex geological makeup. Another
contributor to this vast continent s physical environment is the impact of tectonic plates. Because
the tectonic plate Africa sits on is relatively stationary and there has been no collision of
neighboring plates, mountain chains have not formed. However, a geographical element that is
well known due to the impact of continental plates is the formation of the Great Rift Valley
(McKenna).

Examples Of Good And Evil In The Scarlet Letter
Casey Stickland
SLEssay
English 11 Period 2
16 November 2017
Whose the Sinner and Whose the Saint? Why do these characters in the Scarlet Letter have a
good and evil side to them? This question is what most readers ask themselves when reading the
Scarlet Letter. While I read this book, I felt that you could pick out whom Hawthorne was trying
to depict as sinner and a saint. This book is a perfect example of the argument that people have
now a day that everyone has a good and a bad side. All of these characters have good and evil in
them and there perfect examples in this book. Light and dark imagery, alluding to the larger conflict
between good and evil, is present throughout the novel in the characters of Hester Prynne, Pearl, and

This quote talks about how important Pearl is to Hester after her birth. Pearl is kind of the only
warmth Hester truly receives until the end of the book. As I, stated early people were offended that
Hester was keeping the identity of the man; she had an affair with more than the sin itself. Pearl is
Hester s one true treasure, hence the name Pearl. Or some of such half fledged angel of
judgment, whose mission was to punish the sins of the rising generation. (Hawthorne 94). This
quote is my favorite quote describing anyone character in this whole book. This quote truly
makes you feel that Pearl was there to punish Hester for her sins. Throughout the book, you see
Pearl kind of harassing Hester and I believe that this is a perfect quote to describe those actions.
Pearl not knowing who her father was is another reason why she was so scared of Roger
Chillingworth. Chillingworth seemed to be the character that was put in the book to not like, but
had so many phenominal quotes that state why he is good and evil. Hawthorne writes, He
bequeathed a very considerable amount of property, both here and in England (237). This quote
shows how much he cared for Pearl. Even though he knew from the beginning that Pearl was not
his, he still treated her as his own child, which was about the only nice characteristic about him.
Why would he do for anyone besides himself? It seemed to me that he was worried about what
people would think of

  • 2. An earthquake occurs when there is a shaking of the Earth,... An earthquake occurs when there is a shaking of the Earth, caused by a buildup of energy in volcanic or tectonic form ( Earthquakes ). Essentially, an earthquake results from sections of the Earth moving, causing slippage. When two chunks of the Earth slip past each other, the point at which this happens is called the fault plane. In fact, an earthquakebegins in the hypocenter beneath the Earth s surface. Next, located right above the hypocenter is the epicenter (Wald). And finally, the main, and most important thing to remember about earthquakes is that they are random, and extremely hard to predict ( Earthquakes ). Earthquakes happen when two tectonic plates touch each other. When those plates experience tension and friction, they lock ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, a significant earthquake can develop with a magnitude reading 7.0 or higher, and it in fact does happen from time to time ( Earthquakes ). The third type of earthquake can be described as a volcanic earthquake. A volcanic earthquake begins to form when magma is contained within the under most part of a volcano. When the magma travels to the surface, it can break the rocks it flows through, in turn causing an earthquake. As intense as it sounds, earthquakes resulting from a volcano only produce a magnitude of around 5.0. An event called volcanic tremor can also be an outcome of the magma collected frequently, before a volcanic earthquake emerges. As the magma moves around, vibrations are given off, leading to volcanic tremors ( Earthquakes ). Among many events, earthquakes can cause landslides. When a landslide does happen as a result of an earthquake, they are shallow, and rock and soil are disturbed when falling. But even so, when a larger landslide occurs, which is not often, it still adds to the amount of the landslide. Earthquake magnitude has relations with where a landslide happens, the distance of the landslide, and the landslide volume. Unfortunately, it has been found that landslides caused by earthquakes add to the decrease in landscapes (Jibson, 2013). However, regardless of the situation, there will always be factors that affect how much damage is done as a consequence ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Educator Training Essay Educator Training Regardless of the years of athletic experience among a team of coaches and teachers, an active training program will help staff members to stay informed about the psychological dimensions of student athletes; thereby applying the first tenet of SLT. Smith and Smoll examined the effects of providing positive athletic setting resulting in a 30 5% reduction in athlete dropout rates. I appreciate the fact these results were equally positive among both boy and girl teams, because its success gives credence to the need to provide Teachers and coaches with training to mold their own behavior first in creating positive settings. If a student has been modeling poor character, he needs to know that he has the power to turn his behavior around with tools, such as imagery. With this technique, a student is guided to remember situations and imagines making better choices with better outcomes. Smith and Smoll s study indicates that the sooner imagery occurs after an incident, the stronger are its effects. Author, coach, and father, Mike James tells his athletes that negative thoughts will creep in from time to time; however, the key is whether we submit to these thoughts and emotions and let them control us or whether we exercise our freedom of choice as respond a different way (James, 2017, p. 236). Inspirational tools include allowing coaches to be social agents who label positive sporting behavior, and practicing mental skills for improving moral reasoning. And when detrimental actions occur, be prepared, because conduct issues will arise. Managing Conduct Issues How coaches react to conduct issues can create positive learning opportunities, promote character development, and create an opportunity to apply all the tenets of SLT. • 4. 19th Century Jewish Culture Essay Emancipation and enlightenment were pivotal aspects of Jewish history and culture beginning in the eighteenth century and continuing through to the twentieth century. Influential political figures such as Mendelssohn laid the framework for Jewish political and social freedoms. This was a direct response to the oppression and anti Semitism Jewish people have faced for hundreds of thousands of years. These harsh restrictions placed on Jewsworldwide included, the prohibition of full citizenship, coerced into assimilation, programs, all eventually leading up to the terrors of the Holocaust. The late nineteenth century, beginning with the year 1881 was an especially critical time for Russian Jewry. During this time, Tsar Alexander II was assassinated. Russian citizens naturally used the Jews as scapegoats as it was speculated that the Jews were responsible for his untimely death. This was highly detrimental for the Jewish people as anti semitism soon became a state policy in Russia. As a result, Russian Jews were subjected to brutal violence also known as pograms.... The commercial featured actress Hayley Magnus, who takes a sip of Diet Coke and starts dancing uncontrollably. Overall, I thought that the commercial was very annoying and ineffective. • 11. Mandatory Vaccination Argumentative Essay Controversy over mandatory vaccination has become a highly debated topic in our society. Andrew Wakefield is known for starting the anti vaccination group . In 1998, he published a study stating that vaccines had an association with increasing rates of autism. It was eventually proven that he falsely recorded data to support his theory and he lost his medical license as a result (Andrew, 2016). Even with his data being proven false, many parents are still worried and scared of vaccinating their children. Several studies since then have not been able to find any association with vaccines and increasing rates of autism, further proving his study was falsified. With factual studies and their results, I believe better educating parents about the facts of vaccinationand eliminating vaccination exemptions based on personal beliefs woud be the most beneficial resolution to his debate. There have been several studies attempting to find any sort of association with Autism and vaccination. One example was an analysis of data available from three managed care organizations. The title of the book sums up the arguments of Hitchens in this book in the fact that he makes many arguments of why religionpoisons everything. The majority of the chapters in this book discuss why he believes religion to be a manmade notion that has led to more trouble than anything else in the world. Christopher Hitchens makes the argument of the nonexistence of God by using the examples of the faults of religion then he concludes his book with a chapter on a need for the abolishment of religion to study human kind without its presence. Hitchens arguments begin strongly at the start of chapter two. The themes of this chapter and that of chapter four deal with how religion is effective at ending lives. The discussion in the second chapter revolves around the political situation in which violent outbreaks have been caused by religious people. A good number of pages in this section deal with a response to a question he was given. The question in Hitchens s words is I was to imagine myself in a strange city as the evening was coming on. Toward me I was to imagine that I saw a large group of men approaching. Now would I feel safer, or less safe, if I was to learn that they were just coming from a prayer meeting? (18). The answer from Hitchens is that he would be scared and the reason he gives is due to his experiences from various places that have had struggles with politics that stem from religious causes. His view on these conflicts leads him many times to the statement that religion poisons everything (22). Chapter four talks of another way religion ends life in the form of the risks they take on individual health. The first example he uses is that of polio vaccine. In Nigeria, the ... Not only has the American Dream become a myth for most of the population, but it is rendered near impossible for black people. Ta Nehisi Coates basically presents the Dream as a fallacy and plainly nonexistent in his letter to his son, while the protagonist in Ellison s novel does actually carry and achieve the Dream in a beautiful and treasured way throughout the book. However, it is not hard to understand why going to school can be fearful for black children of this nation: they are three times more likely than their white peers to be suspended or expelled, according to U.S. Department of Education. Along with other institutions, education is discriminatory down to the system s very roots. Ta Nehisi Coates would most probably agree, having received nothing short of fearful education he earned growing up in Baltimore (Hagan 60). He explains that rather than learning to trust his education and educators, he, as a African American, cannot say that [he] truly believed any of them (Coates 26). Just as any establishment, education has been crafted and taught by the White Man, which is exactly why one simply cannot blame Coates or the Black Man for being skeptical. While the nature of education is white, so might be explanations given to children throughout adolescence. Coates and critics are particularly appalled at the blatant exoneration still taking place in schools today with educators speaking of personal responsibility in a country authored and sustained by a criminal irresponsibility (Daniels 3). Unfortunately, being an educator does not make one credible, actually quite the opposite. Although not explicitly, working in education does make one the inevitable embodiment of the system s manifold values, both positive and negative, and in the eyes of those betrayed by it, someone hard to trust and believe. As critic Wang phrased it, A black minister who gives a wonderful speech about the importance of education turns out to be blind (Wang 1). There is a certain degree of things that generally are kept private. However, in the book The Little Chinese Seamstress by Dai Sijie, the main character (who doesn t ever reveal his name to the audience, so is simply called the Narrator), comes off as an especially closed off character specifically in the beginning half of the story. He rarely ever speaks what he is actually thinking, which makes him a kind of difficult character to relate to. The Little Seamstress, a local beauty, has caught his eye along with every other male in the village , but he struggles with how to express his feelings because he is not used to doing so, and because his best friend (Luo) is dating her. On pages 161 163, Luo has left the village and asked the Narrator to keep an eye on the Little Seamstress while he is away. However, even though the Narrator keeps his word, he can t help but feel attracted to her and an inner battle between what he wants and what is right begins. In this part of the story, the Narrator feels torn between his loveand affection towards the Little Seamstress and his commitment/promise to Luo. Sometimes they would do it a second time because when they were standing still for hours they could pass out or even die from standing that long and those standing next to them couldn t do anything about it until after roll call. After roll call the Jews would go straight to work without anything to eat until lunch. At lunch time they would all line up with their bowls and wait to get watery soup. Those who were at the back of the line get nothing but water. When they were finished with their lunch they had to go back to work. They would work for the rest of the day until dinner time. At dinner, the prisoners were lucky to even get a small piece of burned bread and after dinner the Jews would go to bed. By the time that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It takes place in World War II, particularly during the child evacuations of Operation Pied Piper. However, Golding wrote the novel during the Cold War. In order to understand why he did this, the reader must know about the historical context of the story. World War II was a brutal and extensive conflict between the Allies and the Axis. I have participated in Norwalk Cheer all four years in various sports: competition, wrestling, boys basketball, and football. My senior year I was honored to receive the opportunity to be the cheer captain of the football cheer squad. Another activity I participated in was Student Council. I was elected treasurer my junior and senior year. This meant that I was in charge of budgeting for dances. Considering I was in charge of the money, I often was the one decorating for dances as well. We also run the food can drive and Little Kids Christmas. Little Kids Christmas is about giving gifts to children who are less fortunate in the Norwalk community. This includes anything from low income to a parent in the military overseas. We also fundraise for the Norwalk leadership scholarship through activities like the Lakewood Lock In, where Lakewood students pay a small fee for a night of fun activities. My friend Joe and I were once upset that students at Norwalk only do community service because it is required to graduate. To try to solve the problem, we have started a community service club called Student Union. I am Vice President and once again in charge of funding. This year we were more focused on fundraising so students in later years can use the money to do large scale community projects. In this short clip, Penn was seen mentioning the concept of being cautious in life. He said, caution can be something that keeps you alive but it can also be a disease. • 23. Motivation In Hamlet In William Shakespeare s dramatic play Hamlet, Shakespeare develops an insanely complex character in Hamlet, complete with ambiguous motives and unpredictable and often rash actions. Hamlet s descent into madness begins when his father is murdered by Claudius, his uncle. Following his father s unexpected death Hamletseems to lose control of every single aspect of his life. He is strangely unwilling to act in his father s name and kill Claudius, yet he acts as if avenging his father is his primary motive throughout the entire play. Why does he act the way he does? What causes his hesitation in avenging his father but his swiftness in nearly any other event? It seems Hamlet s frustration must be rooted in something other than just his father s... Under Freudian ideas, Hamlet should be in direct competition with his Father for his Mother s affection if he has an Oedipus Complex, specifically sexual affection. In Hamlet s opening soliloquy this competition and jealousy become evident, he proclaims, Must I remember? Why, she would hang on him /As if increase of appetite had grown (I.ii. 143 144). Hamlet s frustration and disgust with his parents relationship before his father s death is extremely evident within this quote. He seems mad at his mother simply for being in love with his father, which is highly unusual for an ordinary person. Moreover, following his father s death his mother almost immediately remarries to his uncle which causes further frustration. As expected, Hamlet is incredibly uneasy at this. He displays his angst exclaiming, She married. O, most wicked speed, to post/ With such dexterity to incestuous sheets!/ It is not nor it cannot come to good./ But break, my heart; for I must hold my tongue. (I.ii. 161 164) Indeed outrage at his mother s quick remarriage is warrantable; however, the way in which he addresses his grievances with the marriage is peculiar and not one s that would come from a platonic son. One of his main problems is the incestuous sheets which of course is a reference to his mother and his uncle s sexual relations. This is not the only instance in which Hamlet becomes disgusted with his mother s sexuality, several times later on in the play he laments and becomes disgusted at the thought of their relations. His grievances towards these circumstances would not warrant proclaiming Hamlet indeed has an Oedipus Complex if he didn t seem to be so obsessed or bothered by his mother s sex life throughout the play. All of the inventions that were made and all the new laws were passed during this time was a major factor of the 20s. It was also the time of The Jazz Age and the flappers. But the 20s had a negative aspect to it which people call the dark side of the twenties . Crime rates were increasing because of the prohibition of alcohol. People began configuring groups and fought against others to win control over a specific area. Clarence Darrow was hired to defend Leopold and Loeb during the trial. Darrow was very well known and he had a respectable reputation. It was a bit of a surprise when he accepted the offer of being the defendant for this trial because he usually defends the underprivileged and people who have no money. Darrow claimed that his central reason of why he accepted this trial was because he wanted to make the point that the death penalty is never the answer because it does not deter criminals from committing more crimes. The hardest part of writing successfully is the idea the author must generate in order to tell his or her tale. However, Steven Kings stories oven hold a darker underlying meaning to them. Though he says he does not control his characters he often related them to his own life subconsciously. In some of them the main characters suffer from abuse that they cannot escape from, very much like he suffered from substance abuse. Earth s Only Natural Satellite Andrew Logan Dr. Richards PHY 161 5/1/15 Observing Project Object 1: The Moon Next to the Sun, the moon is the most recognizable object in the night sky, and is Earth s only natural satellite. It has been estimated that the moon formed somewhere in the region of 4.45 billion years ago, just a measly 30 50 million years after the origination of the Solar System. While there are many hypotheses that try to account for the formation of the moon, the one that is backed the greatest is the theory that the moon was formed when a large mass roughly the size of Mars collided with the newly formed Earth, this sending out planetary material into the same orbit of the Earth. This material then underwent the process of accretion and formed what we now know as the moon. With modern laser altimetry, scientists have been able to accurately measure the topography of the moon. The most apparent topographic feature on the moon is located on the southern pole, is referred to as the Aitken basin, and stretches nearly 1400 miles in diameter. This is the largest crater on the moon and the largest known crater in the Solar System. Not only is this the widest crater on the moon, but its floor is also the lowest point on the surface of the moon. The dark spots that are visible with the naked eye are called maria, and they are actually hardened pools of ancient basaltic lava. • 44. Coyote, Skunk, and the Prairie Dogs Coyote, Skunk, and the Prairie Dogs While I find it rather creative to imagine a skunk and a coyote to conspire together to murder prairie dogs and rabbits, and although I feel I am doing a disservice to hundreds of years of Navaho storytellers, I am going to attempt to creatively edit parts of the story Coyote, Skunk, and Prairie Dogs as a written works, and retool it so that it makes more sense as a modern children s fairy tale. Not that children would be interested in a story about killing and eating prairie dogs, but I am going to attempt to keep the plot, storyline and outcome as similar to the Navaho trickster tale as possible. Some things that I feel could be improved is the story needs more description of the events for better ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The hated one is washed out. There were rabbits and other animals and even ground squirrels. Those animals that are food for Ma ii were gathered together; now they were dancing at that meeting. The hated one is dead, they were saying. The club is beside him; they were hitting him in the ribs. Then they continued their celebrating, and more and more animal people came. Then that evil Golizhii remembered Ma ii s plan. When you all are dancing, while you are looking up, while you are saying, you say, Dance in that manner, you tell them while you re in charge there, shilna ash, he had said. Then: Let us cook them by burying them in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Symbolism In The Film Witness Throughout the film many references to symbolism are depicted in the film Witness, which provides intricacy and emphasis to the film. Many aspects of symbolism are present throughout the film, predominately through the use of certain filmic techniques. Several scenes of Buckley s text were illustrated through the use of silhouettes. A silhouette is a significantly engaging filmic technique, as it is primarily relies on interpretation dictated by the individual viewer s mindset. Through the utilisation of a silhouette the details of certain scenes are minimal and provides mysteries, which the viewers have to interpret, hence the viewer subconsciously projects their own hopes, fears, and mood onto the silhouette. Due to being institutionalised ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Physical Environment In Africa It is easy to forget about the trials and tribulations of the physical world because we are constantly being distracted by the hustle and bustle of our daily lives. Between rising skyscrapers, expanding cities, and growing populations many forget about the ground they walk on and how their actions impact the long term use of the land we capitalize on every day. In Africa, the physical environment has a huge impact on what plants and vegetation grow throughout the continent, affecting how its inhabitants live their daily lives. It is through Africa s physical environment and climatevariability that determines the continent s diverse vegetation species and drives local economies. Africa s Physical Environment Africa s physical environment is a vast piece of land due to several factors. A large reason as to why the continent is so large is because of the number of cratons that exist throughout the continent, which contain areas that are composed of ancient crystalline basement rock (Child, Lesson 2.1, 2017). Due to its long dated history, Africa has a very complex geological makeup. Another contributor to this vast continent s physical environment is the impact of tectonic plates. Because the tectonic plate Africa sits on is relatively stationary and there has been no collision of neighboring plates, mountain chains have not formed. However, a geographical element that is well known due to the impact of continental plates is the formation of the Great Rift Valley (McKenna). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Examples Of Good And Evil In The Scarlet Letter Casey Stickland SLEssay English 11 Period 2 16 November 2017 Whose the Sinner and Whose the Saint? Why do these characters in the Scarlet Letter have a good and evil side to them? This question is what most readers ask themselves when reading the Scarlet Letter. While I read this book, I felt that you could pick out whom Hawthorne was trying to depict as sinner and a saint. This book is a perfect example of the argument that people have now a day that everyone has a good and a bad side. All of these characters have good and evil in them and there perfect examples in this book. Light and dark imagery, alluding to the larger conflict between good and evil, is present throughout the novel in the characters of Hester Prynne, Pearl, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This quote talks about how important Pearl is to Hester after her birth. Pearl is kind of the only warmth Hester truly receives until the end of the book. As I, stated early people were offended that Hester was keeping the identity of the man; she had an affair with more than the sin itself. Pearl is Hester s one true treasure, hence the name Pearl. Or some of such half fledged angel of judgment, whose mission was to punish the sins of the rising generation. (Hawthorne 94). This quote is my favorite quote describing anyone character in this whole book. This quote truly makes you feel that Pearl was there to punish Hester for her sins. Throughout the book, you see Pearl kind of harassing Hester and I believe that this is a perfect quote to describe those actions. Pearl not knowing who her father was is another reason why she was so scared of Roger Chillingworth. Chillingworth seemed to be the character that was put in the book to not like, but had so many phenominal quotes that state why he is good and evil. Hawthorne writes, He bequeathed a very considerable amount of property, both here and in England (237). This quote shows how much he cared for Pearl. Even though he knew from the beginning that Pearl was not his, he still treated her as his own child, which was about the only nice characteristic about him. Why would he do for anyone besides himself? It seemed to me that he was worried about what people would think of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
