Atmosphere
Atmosphere
The atmosphere is the body of air which surrounds our planet. Most of our atmosphere is located close
to the earth s surface where it is most dense. The air of our planet is 78% nitrogen and just under 21%
oxygen; the small amount remaining is composed of carbon dioxide and other gasses. It is a mixture of
gases encircling the Earth and held by the Earth s gravity. This invisible mixture of nitrogen, oxygen,
argon, carbon dioxide, and water vapor protects the planet from harmful radiation and makes life on it.
(Atienza et al., 2012)

Troposphere. The lowest layer of the atmosphere which begins at the surface is the troposphere. It
extends to 18 km above Earth s surface. Almost all of the weather occurs in this layer. The troposphere
is Earth s densest atmospheric layer. Temperature decreases as altitude increases due to expansive
cooling. Stratosphere.Above the troposphere is the stratosphere. The extends from 18 km to an altitude
of about 50 km. Temperatures rise as altitude increases in the stratosphere. This change happens
because the ozone layer in the stratosphere absorbs the sun s ultraviolet (UV) energy and warms the
air. Almost all the ozone in the atmosphere is concentrated in the ozone layer in the stratosphere.
Because ozone absorbs UV radiation, it reduces the amount of UV radiation that reaches the Earth.
UV radiation that reaches Earth can damage living cells. Mesosphere The layer above the stratosphere
is the mesosphere. This layer extends to an altitude of about 80 km. The mesosphere is the coldest
layer of the atmosphere, and its temperatures have been measured as low as 93°C. Thermosphere The
atmospheric layer located farthest from Earth s surface is the thermosphere. In the thermosphere,
nitrogen and oxygen absorb solar radiation, which results in temperatures that have been

Mike Rauser s article, War on Christmas product of spoiled attitudes, provides an introduction to help
explain the contents learned in this class. His article has viewpoints that can be demonstrated by the
four nodes of religion inquiry, and Ninian Smart s six dimension of religion. His article acts as a
springboard to show our understanding of the course materials.
Rauser used television personals to back up the idea of Christians are the target of persecution in the
United States, by relating to how religion is perceived by both an etic and emic approach. Both Sean
Hannity and Jon Stewart are taking the current topic from an outsider viewpoint or an etic approach,

The fundamentals would hold on to their view of whether the snake was Satan or now, and would
keep it true for years. The liberals would accept new ideas that emerge and shape their thinking about
the snake. Each person is entitled to their thoughts on which the text is telling us.
From Rauser s writing, he expressed passages that pertain to Smart s dimension of ethics. Smart s
ethical dimension can be best described as a code that each person follows that helps benefits not only
themselves, but their community too. Some passages were Do unto others as you would have them do
unto you, (Luke, 6:31), and love you enemies and pray for those who persecute you. These are golden
rules to live by as it promotes good behavior towards others. These ethics can be split down into two
categories, virtue and value. Virtue takes on the internal aspect on what the individual should act; it
shows the character of the person. Value takes the external aspect, on how a community of act based
on their actions. Both of them are important as they are the basis of our morals.

An Analysis of Pride and Prejudice and Bright Star
The relentless rivalry between passion and reason is a captivating conflict that often becomes the crux
of innumerable pieces of literature. Admirably, the novel Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen and the
poem Bright Star by John Keats are renowned because the quarrelling emotions and judgements in
characters evokes empathy in the reader as this conflict typifies a timeless theme. In light of the fact
that the novel and poem share a common theme, it is evident that the story told in the poem mirrors
how Darcy s affections for Elizabeth compete with the standards of his immediate society.
Undoubtedly, the lines, the diction, and the different literary devices of Bright ... Show more content

The narrator enforces a reproachful tone by using a simile to compare his possible life to that of a
hermit s as he deplores, Like nature s patient, sleepless Eremite (Keats 4). A hermit symbolizes
seclusion and boredom in one s life as human hermits are in radical circumstances, people who live in
absolute solitude with no need for communication and are no longer dependant on anyone. Although
Anne de Bourgh -whom Darcy is expected to wed- is not a literal hermit living completely
secluded from companions, her painfully reserved and quiet nature boasts similarities. Even Mr.
Collins, who crows over his particular fond acquaintanceship to the de Bourgh women, describes
Anne as a unfortunately of a sickly constitution which has prevented her making that progress in many
accomplishments (Austen 124). Interestingly, the weight of a hermit s shell secludes the being inside,
but it also protects the organism which ironically parallels how Anne is protected by her illness. These
diseases strain her health making her isolated; however, they give an excuse for her timid nature and
unaccomplished life which render her mundane. Thus, the poem s criticizing tone towards the isolated
life the narrator hopes to evade reflects the unattractive life of Anne

Carpentry Has Had A Great Impact On The Construction Industry
Carpenters are the second largest group with more than 1.3 million carpenters in the workforce in the
United States. (Carpenters 481). Carpentry has had a great impact on the construction industry, such as
using hand and power tools to cut, shape, and combine wood, metal, and plastics. Carpentry is the
technique of working various different types of woods, metals, and plastics, shaping those products
into works art. A carpenter constructs and repairs building frameworks and structures. Carpenters
make stairways, door frames, partitions, and rafters out of wood and other materials, including metals
and metal products, concrete, plastics, and fiberglass. Some carpenters specialize in installing kitchen
cabinets, siding, and drywall. Although carpentry has many branches such as residential, commercial,
and industrial carpenters, the most common types include: rough carpentry and finish carpentry. (
Carpenters pg. 84) Rough carpentry is constructing and installing of temporary structures and
supporting structures. Carpenters use blueprints, sketches, and oral instruction from the home owner
to build the structures. They build and produce frames, rafters, floor joists, subflooring, wall
sheathing, prefabricated wall panels along with prefabricated windows, and many other components.
Rough carpenters also build parts of buildings that are covered up after the structure is completed,
along with building wooden structures and supporting structures used in industrial

ABSTRACT
Background: Mobility impairments seen after Stroke impact walking speed, endurance and balance.
Almost all the individuals with Stroke have fear of fall. The physical impairments in balance and gait
along with individual s perception about his/her own abilities to maintain balance might have an
impact on level of activity and participation in the community. The association of these variables with
recovery of Stroke has been well studied. However, it is currently unknown which of these variables
are most associated with activity and participation in the community. This study aimed to identify the
correlation of walking capacity and perception of fall with activity participation.
Methods: 30 Subjects were assessed for walking capacity (6 minute walk test) Self efficacy for falls
(Modified Falls Efficacy scale). Level of Activity Limitation (AL) Participation Restriction (PR) was
graded on validated ICF Measure of Participation and Activities. (IMPACT S)
Results: Data was analyzed using Pearson s correlation coefficient regression model. Walking distance
and Falls efficacy is significantly correlated (r= 0.751 and 0.683, respectively) with Participation
restriction. Walking distance correlated with Activity Limitation

Effects Of Smoking On Public Places
She walked by me and a trail of smoke followed her like a burning building. While many in society
were irritated about the NO SMOKING policies in public places, it was and is morally justified.
Smoking is not only a health hazard to the individual puffing on the cigarette, but also every person
around that area health is at risk. Society has been thoroughly informed of the hazards from smoking
cigarettes; yet people still choose smoking as a form of stress relief or enjoyment. The exposer to the
harmful toxins not only affects the smoker and non smoker at the time of inhaling the smoke, but the
potential affects could possibly show up years later. Lung scaring and various forms of cancer are only

Direct experience of second and third hand smoke as a child helped me choose to not smoke as an
adult, but more importantly as a parent.
Some individuals smoke inside their own home, which is completely their choice. Entering into a
public place while smoking affects complete strangers by forcing them to breathe in the toxins from
the cigarette. The smoker has a filter at the end of the cigarette; the innocent bystander has nothing but
toxic smoke to inhale. According to Opposing View Points, To protect nonsmokers from exposure to
secondhand smoke, the United States passed laws limiting smoking in public places. During the
1970s, states and cities began requiring nonsmoking areas in public areas and workplaces. Over the
next thirty years, many workplaces and public areas became smoke free environments, where smoking
was completely forbidden. Regulations on smoking in public vary across states and cities; however,
federal law bans smoking in all federal facilities and control smoking on airplanes, which was banned
in 1990 for all domestic flights less than six hours long. Today, most flights between the United States
and other countries are also smoke free (Smoking). Before smoking was prohibited in restaurants and
other public areas, my family dined at a local Waffle House. My toddler son sat in a highchair in the

President Manuel Zelaya
In January 2009, President Manuel Zelaya decided, despite the opposition of the business elites, to
increase the country s minimum wage, which was until then the lowest of the region. The country s
elite and the powerful media organs began an intense campaign to discredit and vilify the president
and his cabinet. President Zelaya was accused of wanting to make a new Venezuela (Naiman, 2011;
Benjamin, 2009). Therefore, when he planned to change the constitution, following a strong popular
demand to revise it, the opposition accused him of wanting to do so to make it possible for him to run

Essay on Standardized Safety with Tools and Checklist
The term safety comes first or more simply put, safety first, is a message that patients not only want to
hear, but also want to know is the focus of the professionals that are caring for them; in particular,
when they are under anesthesia and have limited or no ability to speak up or lookout for themselves.
The National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA) has implemented two initiatives; Rocognising and
Responding Appropriately to Early Signs of Deterioration in Hospitalised Patients (NPSA, 2007) and
How to Guide: Five Steps to Safer Surgery (NPSA, 2010). Understanding that human beings make up

These discoveries prompted change and allowed the National Institute of Health and Clinical
Excellence (NICE), to set standards to reduce unnecessary detriment to patients. Many tools were
introduced to assist in the consistency and accuracy of observations of patients physiological
conditions. ViEWS (VitalPac Early Warning Score) is a standardized and high tech scoring system that
helps recognize and respond to deteriorating patients. It is the basis of the newest warning system,
appropriately named National Early Warning System or NEWS (Featherstone, Prytherch, Schmidt
Smith, 2010).
Conversely, the How to Guide: Five Steps to Safer Surgery is an adjunct to the World Health
Organization (WHO), Safe Surgery Saves Lives: The Second Global Patient Safety Challenge. In this,
the primary goal is to confirm that surgical teams not only communicate, but follow safety standards
in order to minimize common mistakes and insure the best outcome for surgical patients. The
standards included in this literature emphasize, improving anesthetic safety practices, ensuring surgery
is undertaken on the correct part of the body, preventing surgical site infections, and improving
communication and teamwork (Beaumont Russell, 2012). The actual checklist consists of the

Analysis Of Meno By Socrates
We all have questions: what am I? What is a human being? What is the meaning of life? Where are we
going as a society? Sometimes we might wake up in a cold sweat at night and despair about ever truly
having the answers. We joke around with them. We brush them off. We do anything but face them. We
refuse to give them power over us. These are truly questions that need to be asked that we have to
confront because only with sound answers will we be able to go forward in our lives meaningfully.
Philosophy empowers us to ask the big questions, the questions that matter. It is a way to not let the
fear take over our lives, but to live without fear of the unknown. Even if these questions seem too
broad, too all encompassing they can be broken down ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Public opinion is what friends and neighbors spout out to us. The things that appear to be true.
Lessons we absorb without even truly thinking it over. What the media pumps out at us every day. We
get it from all angles, without second guessing it. But maybe it should be second guessed. Meno is the
perfect example of what happens when we don t philosophize, or question. Meno goes out and gives
grand speeches about virtue, all accumulations of what other people have told him like Gorgias, but
doesn t truly understand the subject. When Socrates asks him to define virtue he can give examples
but not an actual definition. Finally, Meno is rendered silent, and he realizes that he truly doesn t have
an answer to give Socrates. He has never questioned himself or what he knows to be true, but has only
had a bunch of unsupported opinions from what other people have told him. He comes across as
uneducated, and ill informed, because he has never gone out to investigate for himself the true from
the false. And he didn t even have true opinions on his side. Under philosophy, all these various
sources come under the scrutiny of reason. Philosophy gets us to be proactive instead of simply
reactive. We become the engines of our lives, instead of the cog in a wheel, moving at the pace of
everyone else s opinions or beliefs, we spur our own thinking. Is what everyone else says about
money, children, travel, or work really true? Philosophy engages us in asking whether a long held
thought or belief is really logical on its own merit rather than simply saying that it must be correct on
the merit of the person or group that makes it look so, like Meno. Instead of a compilation of false
opinions that we pass of as ours, we truly have our own thoughts that when they come under scrutiny,
we can powerfully and confidently defend them as our

Who Is Melia In The Ruined Maid
In Thomas Hardy s poem, The Ruined Maid, the maid is ruined from past behaviours which have led
her to become an ostracized victim of the Victorian society. The term ruined in the Oxford Dictionary
can mean broken down, neglected, as well as un cared for (Oxford Dictionary), while in the poem,
being ruined refers to the maid being impure, labelled, and unworthy. The inscription of language and
imagery, as well as the ideas of social class, permanence of labelling in society are used in this
conversation poem to answer why Melia has been ruined.
The language between Melia and the first speaker are very different, as if they come from different
classes. The friend communicates with slang, and now you ve gay bracelets and bright feathers (Hardy
6) while Melia responds with appropriate phrasing. The fact that the first speaker once knew Melia
suggests that Melia ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Melia s ostracized life is demonstrated through the depiction of language and Victorian morality
views; the relationship between labelling and Melia s ruined self is established within the time that the
poem was published. Thomas Hardy being a late Victorian poet furthers this ideology of ostracized
women in the Victorian era with the use of his inscription. In the Victorian era, it was considered
socially acceptable to have women who had premarital sex publically shamed by wearing certain
garments and acting a certain way on the streets (Prostitution of Young Females in London). People
who behaved toward the act and semblance of prostitution were then scorned because it was a symbol
of impurity and tainted life (Prostitution of Young Females in London). Premarital sex was one of the
worst things that a woman could do because they would ruin their chances of achieving a normal life.
Melia s life was then ruined because of prostitution or pre marital sex which led her to such

T. Edge s Essay I M Not Leaving Until I Eat This Thing
John T. Edge s observational essay, I m Not Leaving Until I Eat This Thing, recounts an experience
trying an exotic food, pig lips. Edge takes the reader through his roller coaster of emotions, while
informing about how the pig lips are produced and packaged. Edge has inspired me to share my
experience eating an exotic food.
As my parents and I entered a lively, seafood restaurant, on a late Friday night, I studied the room like
a textbook. The paintings of fish and steering wheels on the walls made the restaurant resemble a
pirate ship. The odor of fried food and grease filled my nose, while the sound of chaos filled my ears.
The sweltering, humid air felt like a rain forest. This was not a very sophisticated restaurant, it was a
local joint, with informally dressed people. Once we were seated, I immediately started flipping
through the menu. As I examined the colorful pages, I sat in disbelief. There was absolutely nothing
that caught my eye, or made my taste buds tingle with excitement. I was never an aficionado of
seafood, and I was not planning on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I made an impulsive decision, and told my parents I was not going to eat. I could tell my parents were
growing impatient with me. The waitress asked for our orders, in her congenial, country accent. After
a brief moment of silence, my father ordered me the fried alligator, and my heart stopped.
Although alligator is not exotic for most, I was terrified of reptiles as a young child. Alligators,
crocodiles, and snakes were the essence of my nightmares. I could feel my feet trembling against the
floor, and cold sweat running down my face. For once in my life, I wanted to wait for my food.
However, that was not the case, as the meal was served in almost seconds. I also felt very pressured,
because my parents were irritated with me. I had been irksome all night, and I did want to infuriate
them more. Similar to Edge, I had to eat this

Plate Tectonics And Its Effects On The World
Maybe the most ideal approach to see how Pinnacles started is to envision that you are viewing a
video shot somewhere in the range of 60 million years prior completion at the present time. Not
wishing to see something that is milleniums long, you accelerate the activity by keeping your finger
on the quick forward catch. Regardless. At last regardless you know the story all around ok to rehash
it.
Plate Tectonics
At the point when the video starts, the mainlands have the structure we know today; the vast majority
of the world s extraordinary mountain reaches are set up, and the Pacific Ocean is so far inland that a
large portion of California s beach front mountains don t exist. Yet, they are going to be conceived on
account of something many refer to as plate tectonics.
Geologists trust that the world s hull is isolated into huge plates that fit together like the bits of a
mammoth jigsaw riddle. These plates are thought to move persistently, for the most part on a level
plane. As per geologic hypothesis, the plates meet in no less than three ways, and two of these are
imperative to our story: subduction zones (where one plate moves underneath the other), and change
limits (where the two plates grind past each other). At some point around sixty million years prior,
when our video starts, the lighter weight North American Plate started abrogating or subducting the
denser Farallon plate, and as it did, its external edge went about as a bulldozer, gathering up

Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde Dualism
The story of the novel, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is about the dualism in life of an
individual due to internal conflicts. Everyone has double persona due to the conflict between good and
evil, the conflict between flawed self and quintessential self, the conflict between ego and alter ego.
The theme of duplicity is quite evident in the character of Dr. Jekyll in Stevenson s masterpiece due to
constant clash between himself and his evil shadow. When a person is deprived of something, that
person can cross any borders to retrieve it and quench his thirst. Dr. Jekyll is regarded as a profound
scientist in the elite class and has honor, wealth and respect. However, he is deprived of his freedom
and his desires to go wild.

Truth Exposed in Amusing Ourselves to Death Essay
Truth Exposed in Amusing Ourselves to Death
Neil Postman is deeply worried about what technology can do to a culture or, more importantly, what
technology can undo in a culture. In the case of television, Postman believes that, by happily
surrendering ourselves to it, Americans are losing the ability to conduct and participate in meaningful,
rational public discourse and public affairs. Or, to put it another way, TV is undoing public discourse
and, as the title of his book Amusing Ourselves to Death suggests, we are willing accomplices.
Postman bases his argument on the belief that public discourse in America, when governed by the
epistemology of the printing press, was generally coherent, serious, and rational (16) because ... Show

Postman says that, as a result, all public understanding of these subjects is shaped by the biases of
television (78) and that in the absence of rational discourse, cultural decay is sure to follow.
In an effort to expose the epistemology of television, which Postman believes has not been effectively
addressed, he examines the effects of TV on several important American cultural institutions: news,
religion, politics and education. All four institutions, Postman argues, have realized that they have to
go on television in order to be noticed which, in turn, requires them to learn the language of TV if they
are to reach the people. Therefore, they have joined the national conversation not on their own terms,
but on TV s terms. Postman contends that this transformation of our major institutions has trivialized
what is most important about them and turned our culture into one vast arena for show business (80).
In the case of broadcast news, we see visually stimulating, disconnected stories about murder and
mayhem along with a healthy dose of infotainment delivered by friendly and likeable anchors that
remind us to tune in tomorrow . In the case of politics, we have discourse through distorted paid TV
commercials and debates in which the appearance of having said something important is

There is no minimum age to become an athletic trainer most start at early 20s and retire around late
50s. There are mainly more physical demands than health. An athletic trainer needs to be able to carry
injured athletes, 10 gallon water containers, and medical kits. Completing physical testing procedures
of muscles and ligaments to all body joints, and taping procedures in a good amount of time. Running
across uneven field surfaces to care for emergency situations and being able to perform CPR and First
Aid procedures to an athlete that is injured. Athletic trainers personalities should be decisive,
confident, be able to listen and lead, observant, and be able to remain calm in midst of a crisis. The
more experience you have in these types of professions is the better, because many employers will
consider new graduates with no experience. They say it is advised to gain experience during school,
by having this experience it makes them competitive candidates on the job market. A bachelor s
degree is standard, and a master s degree is common. You must have at least a bachelor s degree to
become a athletic trainer. To become a licensed athletic trainer you are suggested to join a degree
program that has been accredited by the Commission on accreditation of athletic training education
and they must also pass a comprehensive test administered by the board of certification. Also must
have a CPR certification license, which is needed in most states. The most easiest method of getting
into this profession is earning a simple bachelor s degree instead of continuing to get a masters degree,

Observation Essay About A Perfect House
English 113 Giang, Nguyen Composition Professor Annette McGinnis Paper #2: Observation No
families with kids growing up would want to raise them up in an execrable neighborhood since
environment influences kids the most. That is probably why every relative questioned Mr. Bao s
moving into a house in the most dangerous city in Orange County, Santa Ana. According to OC
register , Santa Ana has the highest crime rate in OC, up to 869 cases a year in 2016. However, Mr.
Bao and his wife had been searching for almost two years to find the perfect house in this poor area,
and fortunately, they found one. Located at the corner of Harbor Blvd and First Street, the gated
community is truly a diamond in the rough. The lovely fifty five plus community is famous for its
Social Clubhouse, where old people gather every Friday night to dance, play ping pong or join a pool
party. It is also famous for its magnificent lake with water hyacinth covering half of the surface and
swans swimming on the other half. While watering the bushes of roses and the tropical trees his wife
planted, Mr. Bao said with his heavy Vietnamese accent, Flowers bloom all the time here. So many
colors, so beautiful. In the front porch, the bushes from roses grow wonderfully. Many colors of roses
like red, white, yellow and pink appear from just one bush, and some roses even have two colors on
the same pedals. On the right side of the porch, two cherry blossom trees

How It Feelings To Be Colored By Zora Neale Hurston
Critical response essay How it feels to be colored written in 1972 by Zora Neale Hurston is a very
descriptive piece in which the author, talks about what it was like growing up in all black community
where she felt no race, until stepping into a more mixed and diverse environment. Surrounded by
more people of the white origin, where she begins to feel the feeling of being different Colored . Neale
uses a very descriptive word choice and attention grabbing metaphors to help portray her belief That it
doesn t matter the shade nor color of an individual s skin, when judged based on personal morals and
the desire of one s wellbeing we do not differ so much at all and in fact we all share similar
characteristics. Zora helps bring to light the social indifferences a colored person may have felt in
those times. I believe her work helps portray that given the short end of the stick, life is what you
make it; and how you perceive things. Once an individual has self happiness theirs not a person or
thing that can take that away from them. Neale s work how it feels to be colored me takes place in
Eatonville, Florida where Zora the main character outlines her journey from a curious little colored
girl, into a self assured, independent Black woman. Growing up in an environment where white
people were just persons that passed through town heading to and from their destination. Words were

Unrealistic Love Essay
We all wish to have that magical moment a moment that just leaves you in awe and feelings that are
indescribable. A couple of seconds that your heart just beats faster and faster and there s no stopping
the excitement, the happiness, the butterflies. Sounds like it was just taken out of a love song, right?
Truth of the matter is that love songs influence young culture on how love should feel and create this
stereotype that love is nothing but a moment filled with passion and desires. But reality is that s not
always the case and these songs set up unrealistic measures such as, a passionate moment or falling in
love solely on physical attraction; and if you don t achieve that moment or are not attracted in that

Summary: Today was a fairytale Today was a fairytale , is a 4:01 song written by Taylor Swift, and
produced by Nathan Chapman used in the soundtrack for major motion picture Valentine s Day. The
song describes exactly the title, a young girl who felt like a princess when she went out with her
prince charming on a magical date. The song describes a scenario in where she wore a pretty dress and
he wore a dark grey t shirt. She knew she loved him just by a simple glare, the way he kissed her, how
he made her heart beat faster and cause time to slow down due to his presence.
Analysis
The song basically describes the perfect date and all these emotions that are supposed to be felt to
indicate that you love the person. The artist adds classical elements and modern day elements to her
song making it more relatable to teens and also causing them to remember memories of when they

The air of our planet is 78% nitrogen and just under 21% oxygen; the small amount remaining is composed of carbon dioxide and other gasses. It is a mixture of gases encircling the Earth and held by the Earth s gravity. This invisible mixture of nitrogen, oxygen, argon, carbon dioxide, and water vapor protects the planet from harmful radiation and makes life on it. Temperature decreases as altitude increases due to expansive cooling. Stratosphere.Above the troposphere is the stratosphere. The extends from 18 km to an altitude of about 50 km. Temperatures rise as altitude increases in the stratosphere. This change happens because the ozone layer in the stratosphere absorbs the sun s ultraviolet (UV) energy and warms the air. Almost all the ozone in the atmosphere is concentrated in the ozone layer in the stratosphere. Because ozone absorbs UV radiation, it reduces the amount of UV radiation that reaches the Earth. UV radiation that reaches Earth can damage living cells. Mesosphere The layer above the stratosphere is the mesosphere. This layer extends to an altitude of about 80 km. The mesosphere is the coldest layer of the atmosphere, and its temperatures have been measured as low as 93°C. Even Mr. Collins, who crows over his particular fond acquaintanceship to the de Bourgh women, describes Anne as a unfortunately of a sickly constitution which has prevented her making that progress in many accomplishments (Austen 124). Interestingly, the weight of a hermit s shell secludes the being inside, but it also protects the organism which ironically parallels how Anne is protected by her illness. These diseases strain her health making her isolated; however, they give an excuse for her timid nature and unaccomplished life which render her mundane. The smoker has a filter at the end of the cigarette; the innocent bystander has nothing but toxic smoke to inhale. According to Opposing View Points, To protect nonsmokers from exposure to secondhand smoke, the United States passed laws limiting smoking in public places. During the 1970s, states and cities began requiring nonsmoking areas in public areas and workplaces. Over the next thirty years, many workplaces and public areas became smoke free environments, where smoking was completely forbidden. Regulations on smoking in public vary across states and cities; however, federal law bans smoking in all federal facilities and control smoking on airplanes, which was banned in 1990 for all domestic flights less than six hours long. Today, most flights between the United States and other countries are also smoke free (Smoking). President Zelaya was accused of wanting to make a new Venezuela (Naiman, 2011; Benjamin, 2009). Therefore, when he planned to change the constitution, following a strong popular demand to revise it, the opposition accused him of wanting to do so to make it possible for him to run again for the elections (in Honduras a president can be elected only once)(Ruhl, 2010). However, after the coups in Madagascar and Mauritania, the U.S. did not hesitate to immediately and totally stop their aid (Main, 2010; Weisbrot, 2011; Chomsky, 2010). It did not withdraw its ambassador from Tegucigalpa as the European countries did. The U.S. continued training Honduran officers and the IMF, after withdrawing loans to the Zelaya government following disagreements over his economic policies, provided a loan of 150$ million to the coup regime (Chomsky, 2010). Nonetheless, the U.S. did take some measures. They suspended their non humanitarian aid, cancelled the visas of the leading members and supporters of the interim government but they did not resort to the most effective trade sanctions and slowly but surely diminished their support for Manuel Zelaya (Ruhl, 2010). They supported an agreement between him and Roberto Micheletti, the interim president, that would create a unity government and reinstate Manuel Zelaya. However, when this turned sour, the Obama administration did not move an inch (Ruhl, 2010). Essay on Standardized Safety with Tools and Checklist The term safety comes first or more simply put, safety first, is a message that patients not only want to hear, but also want to know is the focus of the professionals that are caring for them; in particular, when they are under anesthesia and have limited or no ability to speak up or lookout for themselves. The National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA) has implemented two initiatives; Rocognising and Responding Appropriately to Early Signs of Deterioration in Hospitalised Patients (NPSA, 2007) and How to Guide: Five Steps to Safer Surgery (NPSA, 2010). • 15. Analysis Of Meno By Socrates We all have questions: what am I? What is a human being? What is the meaning of life? Where are we going as a society? Sometimes we might wake up in a cold sweat at night and despair about ever truly having the answers. We joke around with them. We brush them off. We do anything but face them. We refuse to give them power over us. These are truly questions that need to be asked that we have to confront because only with sound answers will we be able to go forward in our lives meaningfully. Philosophy empowers us to ask the big questions, the questions that matter. It is a way to not let the fear take over our lives, but to live without fear of the unknown. Even if these questions seem too broad, too all encompassing they can be broken down ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Public opinion is what friends and neighbors spout out to us. The things that appear to be true. Lessons we absorb without even truly thinking it over. What the media pumps out at us every day. We get it from all angles, without second guessing it. But maybe it should be second guessed. Meno is the perfect example of what happens when we don t philosophize, or question. Meno goes out and gives grand speeches about virtue, all accumulations of what other people have told him like Gorgias, but doesn t truly understand the subject. When Socrates asks him to define virtue he can give examples but not an actual definition. Finally, Meno is rendered silent, and he realizes that he truly doesn t have an answer to give Socrates. He has never questioned himself or what he knows to be true, but has only had a bunch of unsupported opinions from what other people have told him. He comes across as uneducated, and ill informed, because he has never gone out to investigate for himself the true from the false. And he didn t even have true opinions on his side. Under philosophy, all these various sources come under the scrutiny of reason. Philosophy gets us to be proactive instead of simply reactive. We become the engines of our lives, instead of the cog in a wheel, moving at the pace of everyone else s opinions or beliefs, we spur our own thinking. Is what everyone else says about money, children, travel, or work really true? Philosophy engages us in asking whether a long held thought or belief is really logical on its own merit rather than simply saying that it must be correct on the merit of the person or group that makes it look so, like Meno. Instead of a compilation of false opinions that we pass of as ours, we truly have our own thoughts that when they come under scrutiny, we can powerfully and confidently defend them as our ... Plate Tectonics And Its Effects On The World Maybe the most ideal approach to see how Pinnacles started is to envision that you are viewing a video shot somewhere in the range of 60 million years prior completion at the present time. Not wishing to see something that is milleniums long, you accelerate the activity by keeping your finger on the quick forward catch. Regardless. At last regardless you know the story all around ok to rehash it. Plate Tectonics At the point when the video starts, the mainlands have the structure we know today; the vast majority of the world s extraordinary mountain reaches are set up, and the Pacific Ocean is so far inland that a large portion of California s beach front mountains don t exist. Yet, they are going to be conceived on account of something many refer to as plate tectonics. Geologists trust that the world s hull is isolated into huge plates that fit together like the bits of a mammoth jigsaw riddle. These plates are thought to move persistently, for the most part on a level plane. As per geologic hypothesis, the plates meet in no less than three ways, and two of these are imperative to our story: subduction zones (where one plate moves underneath the other), and change limits (where the two plates grind past each other). At some point around sixty million years prior, when our video starts, the lighter weight North American Plate started abrogating or subducting the denser Farallon plate, and as it did, its external edge went about as a bulldozer, gathering up ... Truth Exposed in Amusing Ourselves to Death Essay Truth Exposed in Amusing Ourselves to Death Neil Postman is deeply worried about what technology can do to a culture or, more importantly, what technology can undo in a culture. In the case of television, Postman believes that, by happily surrendering ourselves to it, Americans are losing the ability to conduct and participate in meaningful, rational public discourse and public affairs. Or, to put it another way, TV is undoing public discourse and, as the title of his book Amusing Ourselves to Death suggests, we are willing accomplices. Postman says that, as a result, all public understanding of these subjects is shaped by the biases of television (78) and that in the absence of rational discourse, cultural decay is sure to follow. In an effort to expose the epistemology of television, which Postman believes has not been effectively addressed, he examines the effects of TV on several important American cultural institutions: news, religion, politics and education. All four institutions, Postman argues, have realized that they have to go on television in order to be noticed which, in turn, requires them to learn the language of TV if they are to reach the people. Therefore, they have joined the national conversation not on their own terms, but on TV s terms. Postman contends that this transformation of our major institutions has trivialized what is most important about them and turned our culture into one vast arena for show business (80). In the case of broadcast news, we see visually stimulating, disconnected stories about murder and mayhem along with a healthy dose of infotainment delivered by friendly and likeable anchors that remind us to tune in tomorrow .
