Funny Essays
Writing an essay on the topic of "Funny Essays" can be both a delightful and challenging task.
On one hand, the subject matter provides ample opportunities for creativity, humor, and light-
hearted exploration of various themes. On the other hand, the challenge lies in striking the right
balance between humor and substance, ensuring that the essay entertains while still conveying a
coherent message.
Crafting humor in writing requires a deep understanding of comedic timing, wordplay, and the
ability to connect with the reader on a humorous level. It involves walking a fine line between
being amusing and avoiding anything that might offend or fall flat. Finding the perfect blend of
wit and insight is no easy feat, as what one person finds funny may not resonate with another.
Additionally, the challenge lies in maintaining the essence of an essay while infusing it with
humor. It's not just about telling jokes or anecdotes; it's about using humor as a tool to enhance
the overall message or theme of the essay. This requires a keen sense of the audience's
sensibilities and an understanding of the appropriate tone for the given subject.
Research is another crucial aspect of writing a funny essay. To create humor that resonates, one
must be well-versed in the topic at hand and be able to identify the absurdities or quirks that can
be humorously highlighted. This demands time and effort in gathering information and insights
that can be transformed into amusing narratives or anecdotes.
In conclusion, writing an essay on "Funny Essays" demands a unique skill set that combines
creativity, a deep understanding of humor, and a strong grasp of the chosen topic. It's a challenge
to weave together amusement and substance, making it an engaging read while still delivering a
meaningful message. Despite the difficulties, the reward lies in the potential to captivate and
entertain readers, leaving them with a smile or a chuckle.

Edith Wilson Research Paper
dith Wilson is a woman who played an immensely important part in the history of
America s Presidents. Mrs. Wilson is however hardly talked about and usually is
put to the side. Looking back on the first lady s life we can see the upbringing and
past which led her to step up and serve her country incognito.
Mrs. Wilson s full name is Edith Bolling Galt Wilson, she was born in Wytheville
Virginia in 1872 on October 15th. Edith s father was William Bolling who was a
lawyer and a judge. Edith Wilson traced her ancestors to colonial Virginia and either
by blood or through marriage she was also related to Thomas Jefferson, Martha
Washington and the Harrison family. It is also said that she is directly descended
from the famous Powhatan tribe princess Pocahontas. ... Show more content on

Wilson was the seventh of eleven children and stood 5 foot 9 inches tall with black
hair and blue eyes. She was enrolled briefly in the Martha Washington College which
was a preparatory type program with classes in history, mathematics, physics,
chemistry, Latin, Greek, French, German, civil government, political geography,
spelling, grammar, book keeping and typewriting. Edith disliked the college however
and left after two terms. Edith s childhood consisted of living in crowded rooms
above a storefront with numerous siblings and impoverished relatives in rural
western Virginia.
At 23 years of age, Edith married Norman Galt who was a jewelry store owner. They
were married on 1896 and Norman died a few years later on January 28, 1908. Edith
s second marriage was to Woodrow Wilson. Edith had one son by Norman who died
in infancy. Edith is said to have been courted for four years by her first husband and
once she married him, she moved to Washington D.C. After Norman s death, Edith
inherited Galt s, his jewelry store. She oversaw its daily operation but hired a

The Patton speech and the Address to the Troops at Tilbury are some of the most
influential and impactful war speeches of all time. During these times of war, crisis
and desperation, how do the speakers address the fears and hopes of their men?
Under similar circumstances, what appeal would best address your own fears and
hopes? The Pattonspeech and the Address to the Troops at Tilbury were both written
for different purposes and were equally effective in conveying their message to the
targeted audience. This success has been reached through the use of the speakers tone

Patton ends the speech on a similar note. However, instead of going back to the old

honored when the battle is fought and won. He tries to make them believe that
they will see home again and will live long into old age. His positive view of the

Sodium Nitrate Lab Report Solution
To start off, sodium nitrate is considered more soluble than sodium chloride. To start
off the experiment, a test tube is filled with exactly 10 mL of water. With a scooper,
add one scoop of sodium chloride and put a rubber stopper on the top of the test tube.
Shake the test tube until you no longer see substances at the bottom. Repeat the steps
for the sodium chlorideuntil the solution is no longer soluble and there is still some
at the bottom. Before the lab began, the amount of sodium chloride in the container
weighed 70.5 grams. After adding all four scoops of sodium chloride it was not
longer soluble. After adding the four scoops, the container weighed 67.6 grams and
the amount of the sodium chloride that was used was 2.9 grams. Next... Show more

To concluded, the sodium nitrate was more soluble than the sodium chloride because
it took 8.7 grams to saturate the sodium nitrate, while it took only 2.9 grams to
saturate the sodium chloride.
Conclusion: 1.) Are different substances equally soluble in water? Explain.
Different substances are not equally soluble in water because each substance
dissolves differently. For example the sodium nitrate took longer to dissolve than the
sodium chloride because they are different substances. Some substances also may
not dissolve at all in water. Also, substances have all different types of shapes and
sizes, and larger substances may take longer to dissolve than smaller ones.
2.) How could you use the property of solubility to help identify the type of matter?
There are many ways that one can use the property of solubility to help identify the
type of matter. One way is to put the matter into water and shake it to see if it is
soluble. Another way is to observe the matter and see the different shapes and colors
that it has. Seeing if it is soluble in water and by observing the colors and shape one
can narrow down what type of matter it is.
3.) What were two likely sources of error for this experiment?
There are many likely sources of error that could have occured while doing this
experiment. One error was that some of the substances were spilled on the table. The
substances were left on the table throughout the experiment and it was never cleaned
up.
Theseus As A Hero In Homer s Odyssey
Is there any specific qualities that categorize a character as a hero? Modern day
heroes are made out to be these characters with ordinary lives by day until danger
calls, but a literary hero is epic twenty four seven. A hero in literary writing is one
who takes chances and risks their life to achieve a fictional conquest. He are also
admired which is why the great hero, Theseus, is looked up by Athenians. Theseus has
a fair share of embarking on adventurous journeys, exposing any flaws and using his
incredible strength and clever mind to defeat any obstacle in his way. Theseus goes
through great measures to travel to either meet his father or volunteer to participate
in the fight against Minotaur in Labyrinth. Before Theseus birth, his... Show more

Without these qualities, any danger he encounters could not be successfully
defeated. Theseus displays this incredible strength in Minos challenge against
Minotaur. He essentially saves fourteen young lives from being eaten by holding
Minotaur down, and . . . with his fists he had no other weapon he battered the
monster to death (126). He utilizes this outstanding power to conquer and survive
the great Labyrinth adventure. Theseus also uses his smart instinct in a survival
setting. Ariadne had given Theseus a ball of thread to help salvage his tracks from
the entrance. Theseus with the thread was to . . . fasten at one end to the inside of
the door and unwind as he went on (126). Theseus could have ignored the nice
gesture since it was unfair to use, but he choses to exercise his intelligence and use
the thread. That ball of thread made the exit of Minotaur s confinement easy. Before
leaving, Theseus heroically helps the fourteen youths escape by telling them to follow

Black Gangster Disciple Nation Vs Mcdonald s Case Study
Generally, secret or hard to find information differentiates a group or institution in
charge of it from those without access or knowledge. It attributes to the group an
informational advantage which is carried out in terms of intimidation or (implicit)
trust. Should the knowledge become public, this information asymmetry is abrogated
and the group s power diminishes. For example, the Ku Klux Klanin the US rose to
power thanks to a self created mythos and inside facts and rituals, but lost most of its
appeal and influence once Stetson Kennedy published a large part of their secret
information.

and thus leave some thought provoking impact.
However, Levitt, in the introduction of Freakonomics, declares economics to be a
simple science of measurement depicting reality compared to and distinct from
morality considered as ideals or utopias of that reality. In my opinion this statement
underestimates the significance of economic theory in today s world, is generalised
and insufficient. Economic theory and measurements have strong implications, e.g.
for the perception of national welfare, and consequently policies and regulations of
a country which attributes to economics much more command than a mere supply
of information. Furthermore, reality can hardly be described only by numbers
since feelings and morality as foundations of our values and beliefs take a large
and decisive part in life and our decisions, but can hardly be measured as such. Even
the economic system of exchange is not only based on efficiency and quantitative
terms but indeed on moral based conduct as well. Overall, I consider explaining the
world by mere measurements and a collection of factual data too simplistic.
What most negatively occurred to me was that, at least partly due to Levitt s
deliberate distinction between morality and economics, no
Similarities And Differences In Cinder And Ella
Although, Cinder and Ella have many similarities such as they both believe
kindness is the answer, they also have many differences, such as where they live or
who their friends are. After watching the movie and analysing the characters I
found that there are more differences than similarities. The main similarities
between Cinder and Ella, are that they both believe kindness is the answer. Also
they both work/slave for their ugly step mothers . In addition they both have very
cruel step siblings and both of their biological parents died . In the end of both book
and movie Cinder and Ella both find out they are the rightful queens to their
kingdoms. Between similarities and differences I feel Cinder and Ella have more
differences.
Showers Brother Furniture
Around 1869 William and James Showers bought out their father s struggle furniture
business. They were later joined in the business by their younger brother Hull.
Showers Brother Furniture grew rapidly and the brothers decided early on that they
were not interested in manufacturing furniture for retail sale or in operating a
furniture showroom ... Instead their new goal was to mass manufacture wholesale
furniture to sell in other cities (Krause, 2012, p. 48). As demand increased, their
furniture would be sold not just in distant stores but also from mail order companies
like Sears and Roebuck. The Showers Brother Furniture factory produced everything
from raw materials rather than relying on suppliers. This principle was emblazed in
their company slogan From the Tree to the Trade. They employed and developed
new technology along the way. They were one of the first Bloomingtonbusinesses to
switch from steam to electricity and they invented the process of laminating furniture

result, the company found it increasingly difficult to compete. The Showers Brothers

Thereafter the buildings were sold to Indiana University which used them mainly for

Why We Are Not Using Hydroelectric Power
Why We Are Not Using Hydroelectric Power

Abstract
In this paper I will be discussing the renewable technology Hydropower and the
pros and cons of it. I will be using three separate articles from GREENR focusing on
hydropower as a whole and some of the possible downsides of this technology in
addition to the very noticeable positive effects from hydropower. The three articles
mentioned are Building BRIC: Carrieann Stocks takes a look at recent
developments in hydropower across Brazil, Russia, India and China. (International
Water Power Dam Construction) (Jan. 2015), Electricity Production from
Hydroelectric Sources, Top Ten Countries, 2003/4. (Global Reference on the

(Earth Island Journal) (Jun. 22, 2015). I will be discussing the possible reasoning
behind some people not wanting to focus on this possibly very beneficial alternative
and try to explain why If Hydropower is available why don t we use it? Keywords:
dams, turbine, hydroelectric, renewable resource, nonrenewable resource
With the rise of nonrenewable fuels prices and the estimated decline of availability
in the not so distant future it is very clear that the only answer to this problem is to
implement the use of renewable resources. Renewable resources are very versatile
and can reduce pollution of the environment and can in the long
Technology And Its Effect On Technology
Are we becoming way too dependent on technology and allowing it to take over our
lives? The majority of people own at least one or more of these devices: a computer,
laptop, tablet, or a cell phone. So many people seem unable to function through their
daily routine without having access to some form of technologydevice. I m willing to
bet that you have at least two of these devices in your home, too. Now, stop and
think about how often we use technology devices throughout the day. As a result of
the growing need for technological devices, we have become dependent on
technology in the work place and school, for social media, and simple daily
functions that we should be able to manage on our own. In the majority of
businesses and many educational facilities, the use of technology devices has
become a part of the regular equipment needed to be able to function throughout the
day. Many businesses have gone paperless and depend solely on computers for all
their record keeping, schedules, payroll, and various other files; but what happens
when the lights go off and the day must go on? Very few businesses still keep
printed hardcopies for daily use. We have placed ourselves in a situation where in
some cases the only decision is to cancel upcoming events, appointments, or other
scheduled activities for the day because our devices are not functioning. Numerous
educational facilities are headed in the same direction, requiring use of computers
and tablets as part of the daily

The Structure And Structure Of The Pyramids In Ancient
Egypt
PYRAMIDS
INTRODUCTION
A pyramid is a structure or monument, usually with a quadrilateral base, which rises
to a triangular point. In the popular imagination, pyramids are the three lonely
structures on the Giza plateau at the edge of the Sahara Desert but there are over
seventy pyramids in Egypt stretching down the Nile River Valley and, in their time,
they were the centers of great temple complexes. Although largely associated
exclusively with Egypt, the pyramid shape was first used in ancient Mesopotamia in
the mud brick structures known as ziggurats, and continued to be used by the Greeks
and Romans. Pyramids are also found south of Egypt in the Nubian kingdom of
Meroe, in the cities of the Maya throughout Central and South America, and, in a
variation on the form, in China.
EGYPTIAN PYRAMIDS
Known as mr or mir by the Egyptians, the pyramid was a royal tomb and considered
the place of ascent for the spirit of the deceased pharaoh. Built during a time when
Egypt was one of the richest and most powerful civilizations in the world, the
pyramids especially the Great Pyramids of Giza are some of the most magnificent
man made structures in history. Their massive scale reflects the unique role that the
pharaoh, or king, played in ancient Egyptian society. Though pyramids were built
from the beginning of the Old Kingdom to the close of the Ptolemaic period in the
fourth century A.D., the peak of pyramid building began with the late third dynasty
and continued until roughly
Grey Hat Code Of Ethics

Grey Hat hacker, is somewhere between a White Hat and a Black Hat. They find
vulnerabilities in a company s network, without their knowledge, and then offers to

flaw publicly, they will not however use the flaw themselves. A Script Kiddie is an
amateur hackerwho does not have the knowledge to program their own tools to break

Introduction
Hello Everyone
Does anyone have an idea of how much of the world s population is being trafficked?
Global Estimates of Modern Slavery: Forced Labour and Forced Marriage (2017),
states that 24.9 million of the world s population are victims of human trafficking!
My name is Cindy Ruvebana and today I will inform you about human trafficking.
I am knowledgeable in this topic because I have done a lot of research in order to
fully understand it.
Now, why do you need to know about human trafficking? Knowing about human
trafficking will be beneficial to you because it will help you and your loved ones
take certain measures to keep yourself protected from it.

According to Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000 (2000), there are two types
of human trafficking.
Sex trafficking: seizing someone, forcefully or by threatening, for a commercial sex
act.
Labor trafficking: forced labor and peonage
How many of you have had someone owe you money? Well if you force them to
work for you to pay it, it is considered human trafficking.
Second, I will inform you about how and where it occurs.
As mentioned in my first statement, human trafficking occurs everywhere in the
world. In addition, According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics (2008), the Human
Trafficking numbers peak between the ages of 18 24.
On the pie chart, it is this area in red, followed closely by age 24 34.
This shows that you, as college students, are the most targeted group!
Rodriguez and Hill (2011) talk about how victims are abused both mentally and
physically by traffickers in order to be controlled.
This is done by drugs, rape, and violence, and financial problems.
Lastly, I will inform you of how you can help decrease and increase your safety from
Human Trafficking.
According to the United Nation Chronicle, recognizing the complexity of the crime is

Writing A Text, Writing Style, And Most Important
When writing a text, authors have to take several factors into consideration. Appiah
stupendously incorporates various rhetorical aspects in his text. Authors have to be
well rounded on the issue at hand, address various perspectives of the issue, be aware
of their writing style, and most importantly, they have to know their audience in order
to persuade them. It is apparent that Appiah has done research to support his writing.
He provides modern issues as evidence, meaning that all topics he presents are up to
date and still have significant meaning. A practice that he predicts for future
condemnation is industrial meat production. In providing this as evidence, he
includes statistical research. He states, Of the more than 90 million cattle in our
country, at least 10 million at any time are packed into feedlots, saved from the
inevitable diseases of overcrowding only by regular doses of antibiotics... their
nostrils filled with the smell of their own urine. Giving such statistics, make his
argument relatively more credible, in addition to creating vivid imagery of the
appalling conditions. He also spoke about the institutionalization and isolation of
America s elderly. When developing the content of the argument, he also includes
relevant statistics. Appiah notes that an estimate of 2 million elderly people are
institutionalized in America. Yet again, such detail supports his argument, while
strengthening his credibility and knowledge of the subject. The argument of

Los Zetas are also known for their sophisticated operations, which is broken down
into three distinct phases. Phase one is the production of drugs in Mexico or the
introduction of drugs from other countries within Central America. Phase two is the
transportation of drugs into the US by ways of rail cars, trucks, boats, or rafts to

1. How Does RNA Differ From DNA
1) How does RNA differ from DNA? According to the video, RNA is made of
nucleotide building block, but is a single stranded. DNA often exists as a double
stranded molecule made of four building blocks called nucleotides. RNA contains
Uracil as DNA contains Thymine. DNA is most often used to store genetic
information, while RNAserves as a host of functions.
2) Name and discuss at least three things does RNA do in the cell, based on what
you learned in the video and the tutorials.
Based on what I ve learned in the video and the tutorials. RNA plays three major
roles in the cell as DNA photocopy (mRNA) as a coupler between the genetic code
and the protein building blocks (tRNA), and as a structural component of ribosomes
(rRNA). RNA is much ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is much scientific debate about whether viruses are alive. Like living
creatures, they carry genes and evolve. They are unable to reproduce on their own
and must infect living cells and hijack cellular machinery such as ribosomes to
copy themselves. Each virus is like a little tank that can blast a hole in the outer cell
wall and send its forces in. These intruders change the blueprints in the factory s
headquarters so the factory starts producing more viral tanks. It doesn t stop until it
builds so many tanks that the cell bursts right open. Most viruses are little more than
genetic information DNA or RNA inside a protein shell. They bind to a cell and
inject their genetic code inside
9) How does RNA interference help scientists study genes?
Scientists can use the same basic mechanism of RNA interference to turn off one gene
at a time and study the effect on the cell and the organism. For example, turning off
one gene may drain all the pigment out of a purple flower. Another might prevent a
plant from producing a toxic chemical, making it safe to eat. Scientists have not yet
determined whether human cells naturally fight viruses with RNAi, but it is possible
that one day we will be able to use RNAi to deactivate cancer causing genes and
genetic disorders.

My Own Family Members And Their Spouses Essay
Introduction As we all know, every relationship is different from the next. They all
start at different stages in life, for different reasons, and push forward at different
speeds. For this essay, I chose to interview three of my own family members and
their spouses to gather the information I needed to thoroughly write this essay. In the
process of each interview, it was clear to me that our authors were right; people
discover love, they don t just find it (Lamanna Riedmann, 2012, p. 142). In other
words, finding the one doesn t just happen instantly. Instead, it develops over time
and differently than any other couple. To show the truth behind this statement, I m
going to be using different concepts to describe three different couples stories and
reasons behind choosing the partners they chose. I will also be comparing and
contrasting the three couples and offering my personal opinions.

The first couple I chose to include in this paper is my Uncle Don and his wife Donna.
My uncle is fifty four and his wife is forty five. They are two middle class
individuals who have been married for eight years. Don was raised in a lower class
family of German decent in Midwestern Kansas. Donna is a mixture of Dutch, Irish,
and Welch decent and was also raised in a lower class family in Southern Florida.
Before they met, my uncle had been living as a bachelor for thirty plus years and
Donna was married for fourteen. The two eventually met online on

Characteristics Of Leadership In The 21st Century
Chapter 4 Leadership in the 21st Century
Leadership is very important to most of us because we either like being guided by
someone (which means being under someone else s leadership) or we are the type
who like to take matters into our own hands. This is technically how we are today
(and have always been), where we are either followers or leaders. Now, each one of
these characteristics has their pros and cons, which means that it is alright to be a
follower but up to a certain point. On the other hand, being a leader is a good thing
too, but there are several steps that need to be followed if you want to be qualified as
such.
We will not spend too much time on why it is sometimes good to be a follower
because it is not the subject of this chapter, but there are some important points that
need to be clarified here before we carry on. Let s start by defining leadership. What
is leadership? Leadership concerns all the characteristics or activities of a leader that
are meant at guiding, and inspiring others. So, this means that a leader would have to
show the following characteristics:
He/she will have to be charismatic.
He/she will have to be able to take his/her own initiatives.
He/she will have to be confident about every important decision he/she makes.
His/her actions have to serve as examples and inspire others.
Last, but not least, a leader should always leave a legacy behind him/her.
With that said, let s now cover the journey to leadership, in other words;

Filmmaking features can shape the viewer s attitude toward specific elements of a
film. Music, timing, camera features, setting and much more all influence the viewer
s outlook. The Battle of Algiers and Paradise Now and then both put their perspective
on the struggle between two different groups and fighting techniques within the two
sides. Each film takes a different approach to connect the viewer to the film. With
only being exposed to twenty six minutes of The Battle of Algiers, it was difficult to

Film making decisions can very easily pull in a viewer to the themes and motives of
a plot. In The Battle of Algiers, the viewer does not get pulled into the battle. The
film lacks the interest of one side over another and without this choosing of a
protagonist verse an antagonist, the viewer cannot feel emotionally tied into the
battle. Also without being introduced to any characters, the viewer in unclear to who
is really being put at risk with each attack, who is gaining or losing what from the
attacks, and what is actually being gained or lost. The only influence on the attacks
that the viewer is aware of is that one side attacked another, so they must strike
back. The filmmaking decisions do not shape the viewers attitude toward any
character in this film. In Paradise Now and then, the viewer follows Said and
Khaled through their journey to supposedly the end of their lives. The viewer is
able to feel why the characters choose to go along with their mission, what is at
stake if the mission is attempted, and what will be gained and lost if the mission is
successful. Religion is a big factor that influences Said and Khaled to become
suicide bombers. Khaled asks, What happens after death? He gets an answer of
Two angels will pick you up. This is very satisfying for Khaled and Said to hear.
Remarks are often made throughout the film regarding God. That they are doing their

The Doctrine Of Foreign Policy
The Monroe Doctrine shaped U.S foreign policy from the moment it was passed.
The U.S had always been a country that tried to remain neutral on foreign issues.
Since George Washington became President, he realized that the United States
needed to grow and self cultivate before it can meddle in foreign affairs.
Washington warned the next leaders of the country not to be involved in the
problems of other countries as that would lead to some countries would be
unwilling to trade or they would wage war when America was still in its infancy.
In order to protect the long term future of America, it could not be dependent on
other nations to support it, and it had to establish itself as a strong power before it
could engage in the risky activities of foreign policy. The Monroe Doctrine was one
of the first policies in place which rejected the Europeans from conquering any more
land in the western hemisphere, and it diminished the foothold the Europeans had
because they could longer interfere or try to grow in the Americas.
This policy stressed the tenants of George Washington about remaining neutral.
European problems were at an all time high in the 1820 s. The French had just
exiled Napoleon, and they returned back to a monarchy system. The Spanish were
losing almost all its wealth with the rebellions of the colonies in Latin America, and
there was an ongoing war between the British and French to control Europe. If
Americans were to be involved, they would inevitably have to send

The Role of Advocacy in Politics

One of the primary objectives in a representative democracy is to cater to the
publics need by understanding the issues of concern and constructive criticisms. In
order for needs to be met or negotiated, groups of like minded individuals form in
hopes to influence the government s direction by voicing their opinions. Public
interest groups take on this role to enforce change that they believe serves the
public s interest (Mintz, 2013). Influencing public policy is also an objective for
social workers. Social workers do not merely focus on individuals or small groups,
but also advocate to strengthen society at large while promoting social justice. Social
change is crucial in social work and continues to be involved in political enterprise.
This paper focuses on examples of the beneficial advocate role public interest
groups and social workers embody, as well their similarities under a representative
democracy. Thus, for a well functioning representative democracy to prosper, public
interest groups must give input and advise political officials to make change similar
to what social workers set out to fulfill.
Public interest groups are political organizations that highlight public problems,
rationalize solutions, gather supporters, initiate policy change, and make legislative
action attainable (Burstein Linton, 2002). Public interest
Essay on W. L. Gore Case Analysis
W. L. Gore Case Analysis Although the name W. L. Gore Associates may not seem
familiar to the ear, in all actuality, its products are some of the most well known in
existence. W. L. Gore is famous for its pioneering work with the
polytetrafluoroethylene polymer, which lies as the backbone for many of Gore s
products, including its most famous, Gore Tex. Founded on January 1, 1958, by the
husband and wife team of Bill and Vieve Gore in the basement of their home, W. L.
Gore Associates has expanded internationally to a workforce of over 6,000
associates in 45 locations, with sales volume of over $1.84 billion last fiscal year.

In order to hold their place as the dominant seller in their favored industries, W. L.
Gore Associates must choose between advancing as a technological pioneer or
cutting costs and becoming the lowest priced provider available. If they were to
pursue the first route, it may be to their advantage to expand their research and
development departments, as well as reorganize the way they market their products.
On the other hand, if W. L. Gore Associates felt that the more prudent course of action
would be to become the most competitively priced provider, the company would need
to seek out and reduce superfluous costs more efficiently. Throughout the history of
the company, W. L. Gore Associates has always worked as a single living and
constantly adapting unit. With its unique organizational structure, the company
functions more like a tight knit family than its corporate counterparts. In many ways
this has proven itself quite effective; for example, Bill Gore claimed that patent
applications and innovative products outputted by his company was triple that of Du
Pont, exemplifying the effects of the heightened levels of freedom and creativity in
the Gore workplace. In this system, employees are encouraged to perform their best,

Dunbar s Poem We War The Mask
Questions for We Wear the Mask:
The mask that is described in this poem is meant to represent the hiding of the
emotions and the identity of an individual. It references the idea that in order for one
to survive in the world, one must hide their true personality, feelings, and in the
context of this poem, their race.
The line, [...] debt we pay to human guile, is used to imply the feelings of shame and
guilt that come with the deceit one commits when they hide themselves. When a
person hides behind a mask, they become unable to truly connect with any other
human beings, on the grounds that the negativity linked with the mask often prevents
proper interaction, in which emotions are key.
In Dunbar s original context of the poem, he uses we, in order to clearly state that the

This is due to the comparison between the author and dust, but is different from a
metaphor due to the use of the word like.
The poetic device used in the line, You may cut me with your eyes, can be considered
to be an example of personification. The line emphasizes the idea that eyes have the
power to physically harm someone or something, while in reality they lack this
ability. This attaches a specific human trait or characteristic to something that would
not have this trait otherwise.
After reading Maya Angelou s poem, Still I Rise, it becomes very clear that
Angelou is proud of her race, and finds power from her past, as well as her culture.
Throughout the poem, Angelou reiterates the positivity that she associates with
being black, and she does so while inciting feelings of great power and inspiration.
She will still rise, no matter who, or what, attempts to tear her down. Angelou makes
it very clear that she will not be silenced, she will not hide, and most importantly, she
will not be ashamed of her race or

Comcast and Time Warner Cable Merger
Most everyone subscribes to some type of cable service. When Comcast
announced plans to merge with Time Warner Cable back in February, Congress
was quick to criticize the deal (Popelka). Many members of Congress were not in
favor of the merger, and rumors of an antitrust review were imminent (Popelka).
This is a great example of how U.S. antitrust policy has turned into a political game (
Popelka). Politicians may gain supporters, but no one is going to decrease the cost of
cable service to consumers (Popelka). Antitrust laws were put into place for a reason.
The Sherman Antitrust Actwas created to prevent monopolistic activities that
diminish consumer choice or competition (Popelka). In this case, the merger
between these two companies will not take away consumer choice because they
operate in different geographies (Popelka). Cable companies are struggling to keep
up with the demands of younger consumers who are interested in online services
instead of cable (Popelka). Politicians who oppose this merger are using the
Herfindahl Hirschman Index (HHI) to evaluate monopolystatus (Popelka). Comcast
has found a way around this so they can stay below a mythical 30 percent HHI
market share threshold (Popelka). Comcast will be appearing before the Senate
Judiciary Committee in April to answer questions about the merger with Time
Warner Cable (Carr). Many want to know how it is possible for the largest cable
company to acquire the second largest cable company (Carr).

Before we went to the hearing we had innumerable discussions within our team.
Hearing all of the different perspectives each had on the same topics was also very
helpful in keeping me mindful of how other eyes and minds look at issues. For
instance, it took a while to come to consensus with regard to duty to preserve . Few
of us felt that the point of issue of the letter of intent was when legal hold came into
place, while others argued that it was when talks were initiated with Cyclops about
purchasing CA. After considerable thought, we finally agreed that Cyclops duty
likely began when they realized that the negotiations were going south and they were
planning to sue. Since they were suing, they likely have been holding onto things
longer and that our duty to preserve attached when we likely anticipated litigation.
However, we still felt that it was beneficial for us to gather documentation from the

subject to a litigation hold and that even if we (OD2) has retention policy it seized at

Next level of concern was to deal with the scope of requests so we could avoid a

Midland Energy Resources, Inc.
1.0 Case Brief/Summary
Midland Energy Resources, Inc. (?Midland?) is a leading global energy firm with
an array of energy product and services. Midland operates under three distinctive
business segments. The E P segment entails searching for viable underground or
underwater gas and oil fields, by drilling the exploratory wells, and afterward
operating these wells that recover, bringing raw natural gas and crude oil to the
surface. The R M segment deals in base stock lubricants and gasoline, while the
petrochemicals entails marketing and selling of various petrochemical products,
including aromatics, styrene, polypropylene, polyethylene, and lubricant and fuel
additives. Midland has proven very profitable over the years, recording $248.5B in
revenues, and $42.2B in operating income. The senior VP, Janet Mortensen, has been
tasked to compute the corporate WACC, using appropriate estimates and data.
2.0: Problem Statement
The task by Ms. Mortensen to compute the weighted Cost of Capital (WACC) is vital
in attaining four objectives: (1) to support financial accounting and capital budgeting
decisions, (2) for performance assessments, (3) to inform merger and acquisition
proposals, and (4) to support stock repurchase proposals. But the cost of capital
approximations by Ms. Mortensen appears to misguide these decisions. This is
because the inputs and assumptions are misleading as evidenced by criticism by the

Causes Of American Civil War
There were many causes to the American Civil War. One Major cause of the Civil
War was the Missouri Compromise. This was a cause because people from other
states who were eligible to vote voted that missouri would be a slave state even
though the people living in missouri wanted it to be a free state(The Columbia
Electronic Encyclopedia 1). The Missouri Compromise incident also caused small
battles like Bleeding Kansas(Causes of the Civil 1). One other major cause of the
Civil War was the election of President Abraham Lincoln. The north wanted Lincoln
to become President but the southern states hated the idea of Lincoln coming into
office(The Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia 1). The south thought that Lincoln

union was not prepared. What happened after all of these battles took place?
The united states changed a lot after the war. The union did not really change. The
only difference was Lincoln was killed so a new president had to be
elected(Reconstruction 1). The south had major changes. Their slaves were taken
away and their plantations were burned(Reconstruction 1). Many southerners were
left starving so many of them moved to the north(Reconstruction 1). The north also
had to rebuild the things the south destroyed but it was more significant in the
south(Guelzo 1). The reconstruction period lasted for almost 20 years(Guelzo 1).
The civil war was a devastating time for everybody in
Slavery And The American Revolution
Slavery, was an institution strongly integrated into American society. This economic
system was primarily used in the Southern states of the United State on the plantation
areas where tobacco, rice, corn, and eventually cotton were grown. Inspirations of
freedom and liberty spread throughout the United States prior to the American
Revolution. Along with thoughts of liberty came thoughts of emancipation of this
system. Even after the prolonged battle for independence, when cries for liberty rang
throughout the countryside, opportunities for both emancipation and free blacks
diminished. Slavery stilled had a strong hold of the foundations of the southern
economy. The peculiar system continued to grow rapidly, especially at the beginning
of the nineteenth century, within the United States. Slavery, was an injustice to both
male and female slaves however, women would endure more physical and
emotional injustices than men by the means of themselves and their children. The
status and importance of a slave women within the peculiar system changed
immensely in 1808. External slave trade was prohibited in 1808, making the
survival and growth of the slave population an importance to slave owners. To
insure there would be a sustainable and growing slave population, slave women
were expected to reproduce more frequently. Suddenly, enslaved African American
women already expected to perform harsh and exactly physical labor, became the
sole legal source of slave labor. Slave
Clubs and Non Profit Organizations
Introduction What s the deal? Clubs are very common establishments in our society.
Firstly, before I further explain all the required information, we have to understand
that a club operates differently as compared to a normal business/enterprise. The
most imperative difference between a business and this sports club is that a business
is established with the aim of generating profit which the owner is entitled to
because the owner is the person who provides the start up capital. The low down A

Refreshments Often, a club or society may have a specific corner where
refreshments and snacks are sold for the convenience of its members. This is not
the main activity of the club, yet, is a small trading activity that generates funds
for the club. Western Cape Soccer Club prepares a Refreshment Trading Account
to account for the profit or loss arising from such an activity. The money that the
club receives from this activity will serve as a portion of the income. When the
physical refreshments are bought, this is recorded in the REFRESHMENTS
ACCOUNT which is an asset account. If there are refreshments left over at the
end of the financial period, these have to be recorded in the account called
REFRESHMENTS ON HAND and these will be used in the next financial period.
Refreshments account will increase on the Debit side and if the refreshments are
sold, the account decreases on the Credit side (as it is an asset account). The profit
made will be accounted for with a contra account PROFIT ON SALE OF

We have read in the news recently that there are plenty of public defenders who are
facing budget cuts and are in a financial crisis. This can be seen by a chief public
defender in New Orleans who has had to resort to turning clients away. The public
defender s office in New Orleans is understaffed, currently employing 42

this is a reality or if Othello is using his daughter. During the court case, Othelloand
Desdemonaboth state how they are deeply in love and how their marriage is true.
Of my whole course of love what drugs, what charms, what conjuration, and what
mighty magic I won his daughter (I.3.107 111). As portrayed, social status impacts
power in society. Since Othello was a black man, he did not receive the same social
value as whites. Therefore, it was considered abnormal for Othello and Desdemona...

Since he spoke up against Desdemona s father for his interests in love, he gained the
power to marry Desdemona. Iago is conversing with Roderigo about Desdemona
and Othello s marriage. They portray how they are jealous of her love for him and
explain how he is not deserving of him. Additionally, the men state how
Desdemona is going to end up unhappy and unsafe when married to Othello. Now,
for what of these required convinces, her delicate tenderness will find it self

s personal interests to defeat Othello is conveyed through this conversation with
Roderigo. Iago was eager to ruin Othello, so he took power to think negatively
about Desdemona and Othello s relationship. Iago showed great power over
Roderigo to manipulate him for his personal interests of destroying Othello and
Desdemona s relationship. Moreover, Iago begins to convince Othello that there is a

Head Lice Research Paper
Pediculus humanus capitis, also known as head lice, has been infesting the heads
of humans for hundreds of thousands of years. Head lice are different than other
types of lice, in that head lice do not spread diseases (4). Infestation can happen to
anyone of any age; although elementary school aged, female children are most
likely to contract head lice (1,2,3,4,5,6). The only host to head lice is humans (4).
House pets do not spread head lice (1). Head lice is usually spread by head to head
contact. Less often they are spread by items such as combs, brushes, hats or scarves
(1). The legs prevent the grabbing on to the hard surface of such items as combs and
brushes (4). Contrary to stereotypical belief, personal hygiene, economic status and
income do not contribute to the contracting of head lice (1). Although poor
sanitization and hygiene, overly crowded living arrangements, and those living at or
below the poverty level, lead to the survival of head lice. Proper education from
school nurses can aid in the prevention and control of head lice infestations (2). Head
lice can have some contributing qualities. Evolutionary biologists are using head lice
to investigate the evolution of humans and primates (8). Adult head lice are
approximately 2 3 millimeters long. They move by crawling around the scalp. They
cannot jump nor fly. Over the counter and prescription medications... Show more

The nits are laid by the adult female louse on the hair shaft near the scalp. The nits
are attached firmly and may be difficult to remove. The nits are oval, very tiny and
difficult to see. They are yellowish or whitish in color. They take 8 9 days to incubate
and hatch. The nits most likely to incubate and hatch are within Вј of an inch from
the scalp; the nits further than Вј of an inch are either hatched, not viable, or empty.
Determining the status of the nit is difficult to distinguish without the aid of a

Symbolism In A P, By John Updike
A P is a short story by John Updike about a young man by the name of Sammy.
Sammy works at a grocery store by the name of A P on the east coast, which is smack
in the middle of town and 5 miles from the beach. However, Sammy s dull
workplace gets flipped upside down when 3 girls stroll in wearing bathing suits.
This changes Sammy s life forever as he takes a rite of passage to learn about
conformity, power, and girls.
One of the things Sammy comes to understand during his job is how he is to be one
with the corporate system symbolized by A P. At the beginning, Sammy is quite
clear that he is not like the sheep and house slaves shopping up and down the aisles.
Sammy is confident that he is neither a conformist like Stokesie, who wants to climb

Sammy is used to being a sarcastic observer of society, where Queenie and her
friends just outright defy the social norm. For example when Queenie defends her
fashion choices against Lengel by insisting, We are decent, her confidence has now
turned into an embarrassment. Sammy sides with her argument that the young are
always decent , and being natural should prevail over corporations and conformity.
This leads Sammy to quit his job because he is infatuated with Queenie s life and
wants to impress her. Even though this news will upset his parents, he doesn t care
because he doesn t want to be like them, drinking cheap beer or lemonade. But rather
like Queenie who he pictures drinking water with olives and sprigs of mint. Sammy
is looking to be something more than his

  • 4. Sodium Nitrate Lab Report Solution To start off, sodium nitrate is considered more soluble than sodium chloride. To start off the experiment, a test tube is filled with exactly 10 mL of water. With a scooper, add one scoop of sodium chloride and put a rubber stopper on the top of the test tube. Shake the test tube until you no longer see substances at the bottom. Repeat the steps for the sodium chlorideuntil the solution is no longer soluble and there is still some at the bottom. Before the lab began, the amount of sodium chloride in the container weighed 70.5 grams. After adding all four scoops of sodium chloride it was not longer soluble. After adding the four scoops, the container weighed 67.6 grams and the amount of the sodium chloride that was used was 2.9 grams. Next... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To concluded, the sodium nitrate was more soluble than the sodium chloride because it took 8.7 grams to saturate the sodium nitrate, while it took only 2.9 grams to saturate the sodium chloride. Conclusion: 1.) Are different substances equally soluble in water? Explain. Different substances are not equally soluble in water because each substance dissolves differently. For example the sodium nitrate took longer to dissolve than the sodium chloride because they are different substances. Some substances also may not dissolve at all in water. Also, substances have all different types of shapes and sizes, and larger substances may take longer to dissolve than smaller ones. 2.) How could you use the property of solubility to help identify the type of matter? There are many ways that one can use the property of solubility to help identify the type of matter. One way is to put the matter into water and shake it to see if it is soluble. Another way is to observe the matter and see the different shapes and colors that it has. Seeing if it is soluble in water and by observing the colors and shape one can narrow down what type of matter it is. 3.) What were two likely sources of error for this experiment? There are many likely sources of error that could have occured while doing this experiment. One error was that some of the substances were spilled on the table. The substances were left on the table throughout the experiment and it was never cleaned up.

However, Levitt, in the introduction of Freakonomics, declares economics to be a simple science of measurement depicting reality compared to and distinct from morality considered as ideals or utopias of that reality. In my opinion this statement underestimates the significance of economic theory in today s world, is generalised and insufficient. Economic theory and measurements have strong implications, e.g. for the perception of national welfare, and consequently policies and regulations of a country which attributes to economics much more command than a mere supply of information. Furthermore, reality can hardly be described only by numbers since feelings and morality as foundations of our values and beliefs take a large and decisive part in life and our decisions, but can hardly be measured as such. Even the economic system of exchange is not only based on efficiency and quantitative terms but indeed on moral based conduct as well. Overall, I consider explaining the world by mere measurements and a collection of factual data too simplistic. What most negatively occurred to me was that, at least partly due to Levitt s deliberate distinction between morality and economics, no

It is apparent that Appiah has done research to support his writing. He provides modern issues as evidence, meaning that all topics he presents are up to date and still have significant meaning. A practice that he predicts for future condemnation is industrial meat production. In providing this as evidence, he includes statistical research. Characteristics Of Leadership In The 21st Century Chapter 4 Leadership in the 21st Century Leadership is very important to most of us because we either like being guided by someone (which means being under someone else s leadership) or we are the type who like to take matters into our own hands. This is technically how we are today (and have always been), where we are either followers or leaders. Now, each one of these characteristics has their pros and cons, which means that it is alright to be a follower but up to a certain point. On the other hand, being a leader is a good thing too, but there are several steps that need to be followed if you want to be qualified as such. We will not spend too much time on why it is sometimes good to be a follower because it is not the subject of this chapter, but there are some important points that need to be clarified here before we carry on. Let s start by defining leadership. What is leadership? Leadership concerns all the characteristics or activities of a leader that are meant at guiding, and inspiring others. So, this means that a leader would have to show the following characteristics: He/she will have to be charismatic. He/she will have to be able to take his/her own initiatives. He/she will have to be confident about every important decision he/she makes. His/her actions have to serve as examples and inspire others. Last, but not least, a leader should always leave a legacy behind him/her. With that said, let s now cover the journey to leadership, in other words;

Since George Washington became President, he realized that the United States needed to grow and self cultivate before it can meddle in foreign affairs. Washington warned the next leaders of the country not to be involved in the problems of other countries as that would lead to some countries would be unwilling to trade or they would wage war when America was still in its infancy. In order to protect the long term future of America, it could not be dependent on other nations to support it, and it had to establish itself as a strong power before it could engage in the risky activities of foreign policy. The Role of Advocacy in Politics Jazmine Feijo, 0884046 Political Process and Social Work AHSS 1190 Dennis Long November 9th, 2014 One of the primary objectives in a representative democracy is to cater to the publics need by understanding the issues of concern and constructive criticisms. In order for needs to be met or negotiated, groups of like minded individuals form in hopes to influence the government s direction by voicing their opinions. Public interest groups take on this role to enforce change that they believe serves the public s interest (Mintz, 2013). Influencing public policy is also an objective for social workers. Social workers do not merely focus on individuals or small groups, but also advocate to strengthen society at large while promoting social justice. Social change is crucial in social work and continues to be involved in political enterprise. This paper focuses on examples of the beneficial advocate role public interest groups and social workers embody, as well their similarities under a representative democracy. Thus, for a well functioning representative democracy to prosper, public interest groups must give input and advise political officials to make change similar to what social workers set out to fulfill. Public interest groups are political organizations that highlight public problems, rationalize solutions, gather supporters, initiate policy change, and make legislative action attainable (Burstein Linton, 2002). If they were to pursue the first route, it may be to their advantage to expand their research and development departments, as well as reorganize the way they market their products. On the other hand, if W. L. Gore Associates felt that the more prudent course of action would be to become the most competitively priced provider, the company would need to seek out and reduce superfluous costs more efficiently. Throughout the history of the company, W. L. Gore Associates has always worked as a single living and constantly adapting unit. With its unique organizational structure, the company functions more like a tight knit family than its corporate counterparts. In many ways this has proven itself quite effective; for example, Bill Gore claimed that patent applications and innovative products outputted by his company was triple that of Du Pont, exemplifying the effects of the heightened levels of freedom and creativity in the Gore workplace. In this system, employees are encouraged to perform their best, as every employee shares the same general title, and are compensated based purely on their performance. The line, [...] debt we pay to human guile, is used to imply the feelings of shame and guilt that come with the deceit one commits when they hide themselves. When a person hides behind a mask, they become unable to truly connect with any other human beings, on the grounds that the negativity linked with the mask often prevents proper interaction, in which emotions are key. • 30. Comcast and Time Warner Cable Merger Most everyone subscribes to some type of cable service. When Comcast announced plans to merge with Time Warner Cable back in February, Congress was quick to criticize the deal (Popelka). Many members of Congress were not in favor of the merger, and rumors of an antitrust review were imminent (Popelka). This is a great example of how U.S. antitrust policy has turned into a political game ( Popelka). Politicians may gain supporters, but no one is going to decrease the cost of cable service to consumers (Popelka). Antitrust laws were put into place for a reason. The Sherman Antitrust Actwas created to prevent monopolistic activities that diminish consumer choice or competition (Popelka). In this case, the merger between these two companies will not take away consumer choice because they operate in different geographies (Popelka). Cable companies are struggling to keep up with the demands of younger consumers who are interested in online services instead of cable (Popelka). Politicians who oppose this merger are using the Herfindahl Hirschman Index (HHI) to evaluate monopolystatus (Popelka). Comcast has found a way around this so they can stay below a mythical 30 percent HHI market share threshold (Popelka). Comcast will be appearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee in April to answer questions about the merger with Time Warner Cable (Carr). Many want to know how it is possible for the largest cable company to acquire the second largest cable company (Carr).

Few of us felt that the point of issue of the letter of intent was when legal hold came into place, while others argued that it was when talks were initiated with Cyclops about purchasing CA.
