Davidson s Ipod Summary
Even so, an insider has advantages for seeing the situation more thoroughly, when they are loaded
with too much details, it causes them losing the essence part of the event. When Davidson
expresses her opinions about the new education, she has preconception too. She only wants her
readers to see the good side of her new educationbut doesn t recognize that her opinions are
strongly engaged in every example she gives. While she is talking about students are creative and
invent their own way to utilize the iPod for academic, she ignores the students who didn t do well,
which can lead to misinterpretation of the readers. Davidson fails to understand the advantages of
modern education, and readers can also miss the importance of modern education... Show more

Moreover, Loffreda mentions that the media is broadcasting an inaccurate appearance of
Laramie and overdraws the crime of Matt Shepard. She considers the media and many people as
religious or political leaders who are now talking about the Matt Shepard case as fake
hypocrites. Loffreda expresses her negative impression towards the people who show up to the
protests after the incident, states that there was a tremendous outpouring of support the vigils, the
parade and a lot of people not all of them, not even a substantial portion, but some of the people if
they had known that Matt was gay while he is alive, would have spit on him (Loffreda, 244).
Loffreda assumes that most people who are protesting and join the vigils, a portion of them are
hypocrites, and are pretending because the event is stretched into a nationwide issue that has a huge
influence around the world. What Loffreda doesn t admit, is that the media plays an important role
in promoting concern of discrimination towards minorities and more people are actually paying
attention to the issue and trying to fix it. Nevertheless, Loffreda does not catch that and she also
generalizes those people as hypocrites, which is exactly what she previously complains about the

Mill On Liberty
In these two works, the authors have a convergence of ideas. On Liberty is a philosophical
discourse by John Stuart Mill. In this book, he delineates the link between the society and an
individual. He also explains the utilitarianism theory in terms of the state and the society. Mill
underscores the significance of individuality in an attempt to show the relationship between liberty
and authority (Mill 3). Of interest in this essay are his views on wisdom. From the excerpt, Mill
seems to be of the school of thought that man gets wisdom from various sources. He describes an
open mind approach to criticism. He says that, We may, and must, assume our opinion to be true
for the guidance of our own conduct: and it is assuming no more when we forbid... Show more

It seemed to lean on the accuser s side without hearing Socrates side of the story. The jury
therefore come to the scene with the preconceived notions of Socrates guilt. Socrates says, how
you, O Athenians, have been affected by my accusers, I cannot tell, but I know that they almost
made me forget who I was, so persuasively did they speak; and yet they have hardly uttered a
word of truth. But of the many falsehoods told by them... (Plato 4) This is a deviation from Mill s
ideology since according to him, proper wisdom comes from listening. From Mill s ideology, we
can fault the jury for forming premature opinions before listening to all the possible sides of the
story. He claimed that they were judging him by his character rather than the truth and the
importance of the judgement to the society (Mill 41). He accuses Aristophanes for having
corrupted their minds. He states that, their minds were poisoned by his enemies when they were
young and impressionable. (Plato 10). It is possible that Socrates was a virtuous man and deserved
to leave more than the men on the jury did. Mill states that, of these charges the tribunal, there is
every ground for believing, honestly found him guilty, and condemned the man who probably of
all then born had deserved best of mankind, to be put to death as a criminal. (Mill

The Role Of Framing In News Media
Framing is something that has been for hundreds of years. This is the way in which certain
topics and issues are talked about to try to influence the way we think about an issue. This type
of framing is seen on news media every day. Different types of news media may report on issues
in different way depending on what the issue is. The framing can be really subtle with the use of
different words that can portray two completely different meanings. The issue I will be talking
about is immigration and how immigrants are reported in contrasting type of media. Immigration
over the last years has become an increasing talking point in politics today. The left and right have
contrasting ideas on what should be done about illegal immigration. News media... Show more

Right leaning sources, like Bill O Reilly, Fox News and many republican politicians, often refer to
unlawful immigrants as illegal. This type of frame has a negative connotation for immigrants. An
immigrant may be seen as more of a criminal. It s interesting to note that this type of usage of the
word is unique to immigration. Drivers that violate the law are never called illegal drivers . This
type of frame makes the issue seem more of a cut and dry issue of illegal and legal. Immigration
this way becomes a black and white issue. So if one is called an illegal immigrant then he must be
a criminal. The expression invites for the easy use of the word criminal. Many articles that use this
word also seem to tend to use the word criminal. The word criminal then has an even stronger
negative connotation than illegal. The connection between those two words become even stronger
when illegal is used as a noun. The noun illegals is only used for immigrants and not any other
crime. The connection, thus may be stronger. When it s used as noun the term makes it more of an
attack on the person rather than the actions of

Neighborhood Case Study
Is a PNA Whittier s Next Step in Neighborhood Advocacy and Planning?
In 2012, the Whittier Alliance released a strategic plan for the next five years that pinpointed
critical steps towards increasing commercial activity and housing investments, raising
environmental standards, and improving the Alliance s organizational structure. Could the adoption
of a Private Neighborhood Association (PNA), as presented by the Mercatus Policy Series ,
support these steps? In my opinion, a full PNA will not move the Alliance forward. However, the
Whittier Alliance could benefit and advance these goals if they adopted certain principles
introduced by PNAs, specifically: growing community participation, empowering local knowledge
in the Whittier neighborhood, and working to devolve some planning authority from the city and
regional governments into the neighborhood s hands.
Increasing Community Participation
Getting people interested and invested in urban and community planning decisions often presents a
challenge. Too often, communities across the country are reacting passively to planning changes
instead of taking the initiative in proposing or influencing plans at the start. ... Show more content

While one might argue that, in the PNA model, a community of renters mobilized to share their
preferences and vote with their feet might easily leave the neighborhood if decisions favorable to
businesses and property owners and contrary to their interests prevail, this breezy conclusion rests
on the shaky assumption that there exist alternative, no less affordable neighborhoods nearby.
Finding a way to increase Whittier residents stake in planning decisions along with balancing the
powers of businesses, property owners, and renters is the direction in which the Alliance must
proceed, and it is clear that adopting a PNA will diverge from this good

The Endangered Species Act
These expenses are rarely tax deductible, leaving landowners uncompensated for the prohibited use
of their property. The lack of financial support from the federal government undoubtedly creates a
rift between the Fish and Wildlife Service and private landowners. Moreover, private landowners
shoulder a regulatory burden in addition to financial burden as a result of the Endangered Species
Act. Section 9 of the Act outlines prohibited private landowner actions, including the taking of an
endangered species. The Fish and Wildlife Service defines a taking as the significant habitat
modification or degradation that actually kills or injures wildlife by significantly impairing
essential behavior patterns, including breeding, feeding, or... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Researchers believe that this difference is the result of preemptive habitat destruction by private
landowners responding to the risk of regulatory requirements, also known as shoot, shovel, and
shut up (Wilcove et al., 1996). They state that, landowners are afraid that if they take actions that
attract new endangered species to their land or increase the populations of the endangered
species that are already there, their reward for doing so will be more regulatory restrictions on
the use of their property (Wilcove et al., 1996). The probability that the Fish and Wildlife Service
will detect a species significantly increases the level of habitat destruction by private
landowners, indicating that a fear of regulation is the motivation for this behavior. One
frequently referenced case involves Ben Cone, a disgruntled landowner from North Carolina
who faced heavy land use restrictions resulting from the presence of 12 Red Cockaded
Woodpecker colonies on his property. The Red Cockaded Woodpecker, or Leuconotopicus
borealis, was very populous in the sandhills region of North Carolina for hundreds of years,
inhabiting cavities in mature longleaf pine forests (Walters, 1991). Because the species was found
on his property, Cone was restricted from harvesting 1,500 acres of prime timber, worth over $2
million (Stroup, 1995). Cone became extremely frustrated with the federal government, famously

Nanosolar Case
Nanosolar, Inc. Case Solution
Case Problem
Martin Roscheisen, CEO of Nanosolar must decide on the market they are going to focus,
whether it s Europe which has feed in tariff plans with long term commitment (20 yrs) or jump
start into the nascent but high potential US market. The other problem plaguing him is the
pricing and sales strategy to be employed. A low pricing strategy is imperative for the US market
as there are many players in it, as for Europe having a reliable pricing schedule it s all about pricing
vis a vis its major competitor First Solar.

default market to be targeted by Nanosolar
France
* France is committed to renewable energy source, with the government setting a target of 20% of
all energy source to be renewable by 2020 * There is also a stable feed in tariff (being backed by
the government for 20 yrs) of $0.42/kWh * Taking into account a 1% (CPI in year 2008) decline
year on year, we have an average tariff of $0.38/kWh * But the market size remains small, with a
meagre potential of 300MW by 2011
Italy
* It also has feed in tariff (modelled on Germany s) of $0.59 for 20 yrs and declining annually at
2% * This makes an average tariff of $0.49/kWh which is higher than the others * Moreover the
market potential is said to reach 3GW by 2016, this market is very lucrative and should definitely
be a potential target
United States Market * The major issue with the US market was the lack of a national
framework for feed in tariff, but many states has recently come up with their own policy *
Florida came up with a feed in tariff plan of $0.32/kWh for 20 yrs, but the most significant
incentive for the manufacturers is the 30% tax credit given by the government * This along with
other federal support (such as loans and rebates) provides the much needed push in the high
potential market * With the effect of carbon tax set to increase the cost of other energy sources,
solar power will become a more viable option in the future * Thus even though the short term

Johannes Kepler s A Perfect World
Johannes Kepler was a modern individual and he believed that God would have created a perfect
world and in that world everything was geometrically perfect. In Banville s book about Kepler it
says, The search for knowledge everywhere encounters geometrical relations in nature, which God,
in creating the world, laid out (Banville 1981, p.145). As he pursued the answer to planetary
motion, he assumed that the planets orbited the sun in a perfect circle. He tried to seek order in his
chaotic life through science and rational thought. While pursuing his research on planetary orbit, he
struggled to keep his three worlds; rational, emotional, and social; in order. Kendura says that a
novel provides knowledge of life as lived by individuals (Kendura 1988). Kepler s life definitely
represents the hassles a normal person s life is like. In his rational world he could logically
come up with a reason for different phenomenas. He spends his life researching planetary orbit
and astronomical tables. Dealing with his rational world is somewhat easier than dealing with his
emotional and social worlds because the rational world is based on research, facts, and evidence.
For Toulmin planetary orbit is just a physical law of nature, which according to the Cartesian
Dichotomy would fall under the body and not the mind. Kepler also follows the dichotomy in
many ways, so he would probably agree with Toulmin.
His emotional life is probably the messiest of his three worlds. In his emotional

Income Inequality Research Paper
Economic inequality refers to how economic metrics are distributed among individuals in a group,
among groups in a population, or among countries. Economists generally think of three metrics of
economic disparity: wealth, income, and consumption.
Some studies have emphasized inequality as a growing social problem. Too much inequality can be
destructive, because income inequality and wealth concentration can hinder long term growth.
Early statistical studies comparing inequality to economic growth had been inconclusive, There are
various numerical indices for measuring economic inequality. A widely used one is the Gini
coefficient, but there are also many other methods.

Outlaw Heroes Vs Official Heroes
The outlaw and official heroes are two very different types of heroes that have be represented in
American film. The outlaw hero is generally depicted as someone who works by themselves to
reach the goal of defeating an evil. The outlaw hero will do this by his own methods while not
necessarily following any written laws or codes. Because of this some people may interpret what
he is doing to be immoral or wrong. The official heroon the other hand usually functions within a
group bound by written laws. This leads the common folk to perceive him as much more heroic
than the outlaw hero. These modern heroes are important because they represent two major types
of American hero stories and show how the type of hero can have an impact on how the... Show

While Ray s description of the heroes does show the distinct differences between the two, it fails
to recognize the similarity that allows these heroes to change to the other type. For instance,
Aragorn from Lord of the Rings began as an outlaw hero who was wandering through the
wilderness by himself doing what he saw right. When Aragorn met Frodo, he joined others in
the fight to vanquish Sauron thus becoming more of an official hero. As the story progresses
and finally in Return of the King it is most apparent that his character has developed into a much
more civilized hero who operates within a group. For example, Aragorn s speech to the army as
they prepare to ride into battle shows just how much he has changed from his wandering state as
a loner. He had become a leader of a community driven by a set of morals to defeat an evil power.
This is one example of how an outlaw hero can change into an official

Why Positive Intelligence Can Help An Hr Professional...
Introduction The power of positive thinking has been lauded for its ability to bring light and
good feelings to bad situations since the beginning of man. Everyone who was able to harness
the power of positive thought was able to bring new and innovative inventions to mankind
because they didn t allow failures and negative experiences shape the way they viewed the toils
of their work. In other words, people were able to see the glass as half full rather than half empty
which brought about positive outcomes because they were able to see through all the negative
aspects of their work or life. This brief discussion will talk about just that, the power of positive

Importance of Possessing a Positive Intelligence As we ve seen from the definition of positive
intelligence, it seems as though the importance of mastering the concepts are self evident. We
all want to perform at our best in whatever task we take on providing the greatest possible
product or resource for our employer. We ve all worked with someone who has constantly
portrayed a negative attitude and it never contributed to a highly effective workplace. John
Maxwell is a motivational speaker and leadership expert has made a living off of getting people to
think more positively through their daily tasks to produce high level results. In his Daily Reader
book he provides an example of what positive thought and positive expectations can provide a
person. He says that if a person gives themselves just 30 days of expecting the best of everything
they will often receive the positive outcomes they perceive. He says a person will get out of their
life everything they expect from it, god or bad (Maxwell, 2007). The power of positive
intelligence can be profound on a personal and professional level and its importance should not be
discredited.
Becoming More Productive Through Positive Intelligence An HR manager can have a tremendous
impact on the productivity of an organization. One of the ways they can influence an organization
is by properly managing the change process and

Analysis of †Patterns’ Written by Amy Lowell Essay
Amy Lowell is an American imagist poet who uses descriptive language to create specific
images in a readers mind. Set in the Victorian era (1800 s,) the dramatic monologue Patterns
explores the restrictions of unmarried women in society and the desire for freedom. My view of
these issues is that of a feminist reader living in a democratic modern day society, where men and
women live in a state of equality and have the right to express their opinions. A feminist reading
focuses on the specific treatment of women. Through Lowell s wondrous use of the poetic
techniques, primarily visual imagery (symbolism, repetition, contrasts) and poetic voice (persona
and tone,) a modern day feminist reader s negative views of the restricted lifestyles... Show more

This develops the idea that her future with this man as a married woman provided a stable
lifestyle where she would not have to live by the rigid patterns of society, reinforcing a modern day
feminist reader s view of the expectations and restrictions placed on unmarried women during the
Victorian era.
There is a distinct contrast between appearance and reality, which works to reinforce the idea of
confining individualistic behaviours to retain the pattern of society. In stanza two, she says that
tripping by in high heeled, ribboned shoes/ (there is) not a softness anywhere about (her) (lines
16 and 17) when she s wearing only whalebone and brocade (line 18.) The term whalebone refers
to a whalebone corset, which is a very hard material that is restrictive to movement. By
describing her actions as tripping, a modern day feminist reader is reinforced that she is not
coping in her current lifestyle where she is limited to living in a strict manner. In the next
stanza, she says that underneath (her) stiffened gown/ Is the softness of a woman (lines 32 and
33.) This develops the idea that the way she dresses is a deceiving appearance, because she is not
as stiff and stable on the inside as she comes across on the outside. Deep down she is soft and sad,
in mourning of the loss of her lover, yet she cannot express these emotions due to the expectations
and restrictions of women during the Victorian era.

How I Learned During My Own Time
I Personally, I ve always been someone who had be interested in things such as politics, the
government, economics and so on so I really didn t know if their was much more to learn, but I
was sure as hell wrong throughout this whole course I was able to learn things that I never
would ve learned during my own time, which I usually dedicate a lot of time to my own private
readings. So, the thing that I feel I was most interesting to learn about was that most mutual
funds don t even go ahead and beat the market, even with them charging high fees to have to go
ahead and pay these so called experts to pick stocks for them. I had always been under the
impression that most mutual funds had always made money, and usually had even be able to
beat the markets out and had even thought of investing in one at a point in time during my life.
When I had learned the fact that 80 90 percent of mutual funds don t even beat the overall
market, it s really a disgusting thing to learn that these people then go around and charge
commissions as high as 2 percent on most normal funds. What s even nicer to hear (sarcasm) is
that when people sign up to these funds, the company will try to hide all the fees associated with
joining such as a load fee which is charging a huge fee up front to join in with the fund, so a
person won t want to leave the fund because they ve already lost a lot of money up front. There
are a lot of other things such as hiding fees in very small print and so on so people

percentage in respect to other nations is a result of incentives provided by the European Union for
the purchase of diesel vehicles such as subsidies towards the production process resulting in lower

After their joint meeting in September 2002, the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB)
and the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) issued the Norwalk Agreement,

At that meeting, the FASB and the IASB agreed to make their existing financial reporting standards

The FASB IASB convergence efforts involve two projects: the short term project that is intended to

Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Examples of short term convergence efforts include
accounting for non monetary exchanges and income taxes. The second type of convergence project
refers to long term projects like revenue recognition.
In April and October 2005, the FASB and the IASB reaffirmed their commitment to the

Movie My Favorite Movie
I love watching movies. Their ability to transport you to another world for two hours and make
you care about people that aren t real is the most unrecognized form of magic. I m not a critic, so
any movie will do, as long as I m interested enough to watch it. Many movies stick in my mind,
whether it s a hilarious joke, an awesome fight scene, or simply a unique plot. There is one movie,
however, which stands out among them all. A filmI had never heard of before viewing called
Prisoners. From start to finish, I was invested in the characters and their goals. I felt their fear and
desperation. I was in the movie, not sitting on my living room couch. The movie Prisoners was
suspenseful, chilling, and memorable, so there is no doubt in my mindthat it is my favorite movie,
and I will likely remember it for the rest of my life. The backbone of any good movie is the story.
The story is the rope that the movie uses to drag you in, to make you feel for the characters, to
make you more than a simple movie viewer. Prisoners was about Keller Dover, an average man
with a teenage son and a young daughter. They have friends down the street, another family just
like them. Life isn t perfect, but it s far from anything worth complaining about. Then. the
unthinkable happens. The young girl goes missing. From that moment on, both the police and
Keller search for her, but they use methods that are drastically different from each other. This poses
a question to the audience: How far would you go for the people you love? The way the movie
portrayed the desperation of Mr. Dover and the detective assigned to the case was perfect. As
time went on, doubt and fear began to take over the minds of everyone involved. As they mystery
was slowly unraveled, many twists and turns prevented the solution from being obvious. I was
constantly thinking about what might have happened, and I was still nowhere near to close. The
emotions felt by everyone who feared for this innocent girl and wondered where she was exploded
on the TV screen. It was suspenseful, heart wrenching, and everything you could want from a
movie. Truly, an excellent story propelled Prisoners into my mind and my heart, more than earning
my favor. Besides a great storyline,

The Habits Of Native Americans As Vile People
Other than discovering the world, some everyday activities of a european explorer include, a
competition to see who can split a Native American man in half first, drowning young children for
their own humor and burning native Americans alive to watch them agonize. During the
Columbian Exchange, a time of trading goods and animals between the Americasand Europe
starting in 1492, new landemasses were being explored and claimed in the Americas. These
landmasses were explored by European explorers, including Conquistadors, Spanish explorers.
Modern day Mexicowas the biggest target for these explorers. Although they discovered and
explored many new landmasses, European explorers should be remembered as vile people because
they brought gruesome diseases to the Americas, killing millions, they interrupted and took
advantage of the Native Americans and their everyday lives, and the explorers were very violent
towards them.
European explorers should be portrayed as villainous because they brought deadly diseases to the
Americas. The diagram and excerpt from William Duiker s and Jackson Spielvogel s The
Columbian Exchange give a good idea of the goods, animals, and diseases, that were traded
between Europe and the Americas during the Columbian Exchange. Among the long list of diseases
was smallpox (Doc. 3). Because smallpox was brought to the Americas, like the rest of the items, it
spread quickly. Geoffrey Cowley in The Great Disease Migration explains the statistics of

Benefits Of Building And Regain Employees Trust
After 15 years of taking great pride in leading people, I fear these skills may no longer be
required or valued. As globalization and advanced technology challenges the world as we know
it, I can t help but think I ve become a dinosaur. It s disheartening to feel this way that companies
no longer care about their employees and only see them as expenses rather than assets. Building a
strong team where people trust and respect each other seems to no longer be a priority or even a
thought among managers. I say managers, because managing and leading people are two very
different things. So the question is, will we be able to build or regain employees trust; is it even
something companies care about anymore?

I wish I could dismiss this as a rare case, but the truth is that the longer I stay in this environment,
the more this is becoming the norm. Dedicated colleagues who always gave a 110% are now
telling their peers: I don t know; we don t do that anymore; I can t help with that; and so on.
Really what they are saying is I ve stopped caring. What s more concerning is that this type of
behavior is not unique to one company, it is widespread.
Newspapers are riddled with stories of deceit and deception from leaders in both the commercial
and government sectors (Wilson, 2009, p. 12). The article raises the growing issue and challenges
leaders face with disengaged employees and high turnover rates; and turnover isn t cheap. For
those concerned with the bottom line, it s important to know that the cost of turnover is estimated
to be equivalent to an entire year s salary of the employee who left, not to mention the cost of lost
productivity, absenteeism, and increased health costs. Wilson also indicated that research by
Gallup and other organizations indicate employee disengagement is costing companies billions of
dollars every year (as cited in Wilson, 2009). Average employee tenure is less than five years, and
for millennials less than three (Morgan, 2015).

Why Is Jonbenet Ramsey Important
JonBenet Ramsey Annotated Bibliography Several huge and important celebrities have had
mysterious deaths. What happened? Was it an accident? Did someone kill them? If so, who killed
them? These are all important questions to think of when thinking of such a death. I researched
JonBenet Ramsey, a beauty pageant queen, whom was gorgeous, talented, and young. December
26, 1996, she was found murdered in the basement of her own home. The cause of deathwas
suffocation. According to policereports, JonBenet was found in the small room covered with a
blanket, her wrists were tied above her head, her mouth was covered with tape, and a nylon cord
was wrapped around her neck . There were also signs of sexual assault before she had been
murdered. In fact, that there was a possibility of her having been sexually assaulted more than
just right before her death. The prime suspects for the case were, of course, her parents. A note
was left behind prior to the finding of the body, stated that if the Ramsey s wanted to see their
daughter again that they would have to attain $ 1118,000 from Mr. Ramsey s account. This note
was obviously not honored , asbecause JonBenet s body was found around 30 minutes after the note

Red And Biscuit Play Analysis
An underdog can be interpreted under different point of views. Theoretically, it s a person who
is seen inferior to the others, but that has the mind and the spirit of a true champion. In the
Seabiscuit play, both Red and Biscuit transcend their underdog tag perfectly. From the start of
the story, Red is at a point of his life where he s been struggling for years in the racing industry
and is starting to be short on money. He has a final chance of doing something good in his career.
On his side, the horse Seabiscuit is in a similar situation. He is not in the best shape, he hasn t
been winning any races in years and no jockey wants to take a chance of riding him. Luckily for
him, a horse trainer under the name of Tod saw some good in him when no one else did. That is

Pricing The Bond Option Of Vasicek And Cir Models
Pricing the Bond option in Vasicek and CIR models
Name: Huajun Liu
Professor: Marco Pereira
Course: Math 624
Date: 2016/12/18
1.Abstract
This report is aimed to describe how we will use Python to build an application to price risky
bond and the European options of the bond in stochastic hazard rate and interest rate models. We
are going to simulate the path of interest rate using CIR model and simulate the path of hazard
rate using Vasicek model. Then we will get the survival function from simulated hazard rate and
get the bond price from it. Lastly we will price the European options of the risky bond based on
the simulated bond price by using both closed form formula (Jamshidian, F. (1989)) and Monte
Carlo simulation.
2.Introduction
Today, an increasing number of risky bond options have been introduced to customers, but only a
few customers can understand how to price a risky bond option. The credit derivative is a new type
of financial derivative which is based on the credit condition of the loan developed in the 1990s,
and its function is to separate the credit risk from other risks of the primary assets and transfer it to
the counterparty. Also, credit derivatives can make credit risk appear in a more fluid and tradable
form, which has a great application in improving the portfolio of returns and presenting a highly
structured risk portfolio. Meanwhile, credit derivatives can be used in the investment market Avoid
risks, and thus mobilize the credit market activity.

many of the ideological changes such as affirmative black action happening in America at the time.

And Murray also adds that the statistic could also be due to a large amount of prejudice in the
justice system towards race. For instance Derek s black friend in jail was accused of assault and
sentenced to six years because he dropped a stolen TV on the policeman s foot. Derek
oversimplifies the issue by presenting two reasons and fails to acknowledge any of the underlying
factors that may be in play to produce the statistic.
Finally, near the end of the conversation Derek uses the red herring fallacy to further support his
radical view. If Rodney King had been driving along, hopped up on Chivas Regal and PCP and
had killed Danny, you d be singing a very different tune about the force of those cops. In order to
prove his point that King deserved the beating for what he had done, Derek presents the situation
in a totally different light. Derek immediately shifts the discussion to something emotional (the
death of his brother Danny) and the possibility of King hitting into someone during his high speed
chase is totally off topic because he didn t in fact hit anybody. In doing so he uses appeal to fear to
commit the fallacy of red herring.
Derek s blatant racism against the struggling black man is shown throughout this scene. Derek
refers to King as a monkey twice, which displays his obvious lack of respect towards other races.
Derek s strong racial prejudice is obvious towards the end when he

Pros Of Collective Bargaining

Effect of Hot Water Treatment on Germination of Acacia falcata seeds
Chaarvee Sood Department of Biological Sciences, Macquarie University, NSW 2109, Australia
Introduction
Germination process for acacia species takes variety of factors and not necessarily that all species
would take one coherent measures in order to germinate. Acacia falcata is one of the species for
which the germination process could be easily being noted through treatment of boiling water.
Although keeping in check that other suitable methodology can be taken to find results. Through
several research conducted in the area of germination in acacia, it is now transparent that varieties
of acacia seeds remain dormant in the soil and years may elapse until they all the viable seeds
germinate. According to (Harding, 1940), the reason behind this dormancy is due to the coat of the
seed of many acacia species to be thick, hard and highly polished. Hence reducing the moisture
penetration to be a very slow process in natural conditions. According to the research in (Harding,
1940), it has been immensely shown that boiling water can improve the germination rate of acacia
species. Particularly, Acacia pycnantha which was shown to highly germinate when dipped in
boiled water for 5 seconds which had a percentage of 72.5%. However further study in (Harding,

There will be 400 new hotel rooms built in Elizabeth Quay which is necessary to accommodate

have been many different opinions about whether or not Elizabeth Quay is a good idea. In July
of 2012, it was found that 41% of the population of Perth was for Elizabeth Quay, while 36% did
not think it was a good idea. Interestingly, it was found that liberal and green supporters were
more in favour of the project than labor supporters. Many of those not in favour of the project
believe that it does little for Australian heritage and that it isn t worth the disruption of traffic that
would be caused by the closing of Riverside drive during the building period. It is also thought
that many people in Perth are in fear of change; that they want it to stay the same sleepy town that
it had been in the past. But in opposition to this, supporters of the project have rightly stated that
Perth is the fastest growing city in Australia, and change is inevitable to support all the
requirements of a large population. Negative impact 2: The appeal of the areas around the
Elizabeth Quay development may have been affected due to noise, pollution, smoke and dust in the
air and increased traffic congestion. This could affect the businesses around these areas as they
may not have gotten as many customers. Also, buildings that used to be in prime positions (facing

What Are The Five Traditional Senses
Internet Activity #6 The five traditional senses have been around since the time of Aristotle. Each
sensory organ is made up of cells that have receptors for stimuli. In this way, the cells are linked to
the nervous system and the brain. The senses are very primitive functions of the cells. Humans
most developed sense is sight. The eyeis the sensory organ for sight. Visual input from the eyes is
mapped by the back of the brain, and it is combined into one image, combining the image from
both eyes into one. The brain flips images to look right side up because the focusing action of the

Jellyfish Jew Jack Prelutsky Analysis
Jack Prelutsky s poem Jellyfish Stew is fresh, silly, and wacky. The combination of satisfying
rhymes and content make it easily approachable for kids. I was inclined to it because of its
peculiarity. The content matter seemed so random and I thought it would be fun to challenge
myself by analyzing such a silly poem and trying to find depth. I also really enjoyed how much its
rhymes were consistent in every line.
Sounds
A most memorable experience in reading a great variety of poems is the sound the poem makes.
As children, we are drawn to repetitive rhymes and melodies more than content itself. It is nice
to hear a familiar pattern as we evolve and expand our reading skills to more complicated poems.
A key feature of sounds is a poem s rhymes. Repetition of similar sounds is often comforting and
Prelutsky does it very well. In the first stanza, every line but two ends with the same sound; this
is for variety: Oh, truly I do / You re creepy to see / Revolting to chew / You slide down inside
/ With a hullabaloo . The poem does not features alliterations, repetitions of initial sounds.
Prelutsky makes up for this by including consonance and assonance sounds instead which are
repetitions of consonant sounds and vowel sounds, respectively. The word you is repeated at
the beginning of lines, frequently You re soggy, you re smelly / You taste like shampoo / You
bog down my belly . Within those same lines, the repetition of the s and b sounds are heard as
well. A fun example of an assonance is the following line: With oodles of goo . Both words are
humorous and repeat the silly oo sound. A bit more complicated feature of sound is a poem s
rhythm, a pattern created by beats. It is established by analyzing a poem s meter. In the first line of
the poem, is a trochee: Je/lly/fish/stew but the majority of remaining syllables in the next few lines
are unstressed, making it difficult to analyze the meter overall. Pictures Pictures in poetry are the
images writers create which make us use all of our senses. Excellent pictures can make your mind
travel to new destinations simply by reading. Prelutsky uses wonderful imagery appealing to sight
suggesting how disgusting jellyfish stew is: soggy , oodles of

External Pressure On Public Administration
After reading through the syllabus, there appear to be many direct linkages between this course and
the previous courses that I have participated in. The first module focuses on external pressures on
public administration. I learned about external forces on public administrators in Introduction to
Public Administration, and Managing Change in the 21st Century. Though Introduction to Public
Administrationonly gave a vague overview of external pressures, Managing Change gave greater
detail on how there are forces outside of government, including citizens, interest groups and private
sector companies who all will influence the decision making process. These same courses also
focused on the internal pressures within organizations and government that will also impact the
decision making processes of public administrators. Budgeting is also a topic that I have experience
with. Budgeting in the public sector is entirely different than budgeting in the private sector. Lastly,
my previous public administration courses emphasized the importance of performance expectation
and improvement. Efficiency and effectiveness is a goal that public administrators everywhere
should work towards. Of my previous public administration courses, there are two courses that
made a significant impact on me. Ethics and Policy Administration, and Personnel Administration
in the Public Sector were my favorite courses. I enjoyed the Ethics and Public policy course,
because it focused on not only the

Heritage Minutes By Terry Fox Essay
The one minute heritage video titled Heritage Minutes: Terry Fox goes on to talk about Fox s
journey through Canada with an amputated leg while raising money for cancer research. The
video shows not only Fox but many people supporting his journey which not only included
Canadians watching his marathon but also family members who came along during the journey
and assisting with keeping track of funds, his length and also his health. It is evident that this had
taken place in Canada as there were many Canadian symbols throughout the film and was also
mentioned. However, it is hard to tell the exact location as to where everything took place. We can
notice the various weather conditions that were seen throughout the film which ranged from rainy
to sunny days. We can also note that the video had been filmed during many times of the day. In
the beginning, we see Fox running on an empty road before sunrise and then we progress into a
busier time period... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Important parts to Fox story such as when he says I take one mile at a time, 26 miles a day It is
possible to go through Fox s history, which there is not a ton of information on in the video, in
more details and how he came up to the moment in his life where he would take one mile at a
time, 26 miles a day. Information such as his background and what his life was like before being
diagnosed was a key feature that was definitely left out. Although the film does mention how
cancer happens to people all the time and how Fox wasn t special, the video could have
mentioned how he considered himself as not special by saying that he was a man who loved
playing basketball and played for Simon Fraser University. 2 We also are not told about how in
1970, he penned a letter to the Canadian Cancer Society telling them how he believed in miracles
and that he had intended to run across Canada. This led to Fox being able to receive many

The Elements Of The Genre Of Speculative Fiction
Next to being neo slave narratives, Kindred and Beloved, as well as Who Fears Death, are
examples of the genre of Speculative Fiction. This type of literature features supernatural and/or
futuristic elements. Is serves as an umbrella term and includes science fiction, fantasy, literary
fiction, supernatural fiction, horror, dystopia, utopia, (post )apocalyptic and superhero elements, as
well as their combinations (Jackson and Moody Freeman, 127). Hence, in Speculative Fictionthe
action of the story can take place in a culture that never existed, a world we know nothing of, or
an earth that might have been or might be (Shade, 2). In other words, speculative literature
includes all texts that take place in a universe slightly different from our own (Wyatt, 1 2).
Language is not merely descriptive but also functions as a form of word building (Burnett, 137), as
neologisms can be both metaphorical and literal in this genre.
Speculative Fiction ranges back to ancient history and has been pervading humanity from the
beginning. Furby and Hines state that the human has always been a story telling ape (Furby and
Hines, 10), as we get access to the world through the narrative. So called taproot texts, the very
first fictional texts, such as The Epic of Gilgamesh, still form the basis for modern authors to draw

Still, until recently, it has not given much attention to issues of race and ethnicity in the context of
imagined futures. Historically, the focus of the genre has been on social and political commentary,
as well as responses to social, cultural and technological changes. Mainstream speculative fictional
novels explored issues of empire, [rather than] blacks, women and other culturally diverse peoples
within their narratives (Jackson and Moody Freeman, 128). In other

can be slowed but cannot be stopped entirely.

It has found that more than 80 percent have survival rate at least one year after the organ transplant.
Between 50 to 70 percent of people who had this organ transplant had survival after 3 years of the
transplant. Age is considered to be an important factor that influences this organ transplant survival.
There has been some improvement in the short term survival transplant.
Statistical data on single lung transplant has showed that 78 percent of patients had survival for
the first year, 63 percent of the patients had survival for three years and 51 percent of patients had
survival for five years. Survival rates for double lung transplant have been found to be better.
Data from recent research shows that the median survival for the single lung recipients is 4.6 years
while the median survival for double lung recipients is 6.6 years.

Traditionally, independent dealerships utilize a far more centralized approach to customer level
decision making. These mom and pop dealerships acquired by Cervus were successfully converted
from a command and control style of management.
Inimitability and Substitutability
Cervus decentralized decision making model could be easily imitated. At first glance the model s
imitability appears to be a major barrier that is preventing a sustainable competitive advantage.
However, decentralization is not a new concept and was certainly not developed by Cervus. The true
value lies in Cervus ability to implement and execute the concept, which involves far more than
simply imitating a model or a process. Would be imitators must also invest the time necessary to
develop the experience and capability to implement the model effectively. Thus, Cervus
decentralization capabilities are actually quite difficult to imitate as they require a significant time
investment.
The organization of power within a corporation is a rigid dichotomy between centralization and
decentralization. Substitute strategies can exist anywhere along the spectrum whether they are
completely centralized, completely decentralized or somewhere in between. Though Cervus
methods are substitutable, centralized policies have not proven to be nearly as successful in
maintaining

The Republican Party And Wendy Davis For The Democrat Party
One of the biggest Governor races in Texas history, the race was between Attorney General, Greg
Abbot and State Senator, Wendy Davis, Greg Abbot for the Republican Party and Wendy Davis for
the Democrat Party. Both candidates have a lot to offer to the state of Texas, and it was a very
nasty battle with many campaign segments bringing the opponent down, or trying to at least.
Attorney General Greg Abbott will take the win and become the TexasGovernor, winning by twenty
one points. His victory against Wendy Davis was worse than any Democrat has suffered since
George W. Bushs race against Garry Mauro in 1998 (Heinz). Abbott s victory speech is very well
said, and personable. He mentions his injury, his education plan, and securing the... Show more

He acknowledged that he is going to do the best for everyone, not just Republicans. Everyone
who voted for the Republican Party candidate, Greg Abbott, voted for Hope over fear, unity over

Greg Abbott (Heinz). Throughout the speech he never mentioned tactics on how he won the
election, or critiquing Davis campaign tactics. He was just very thankful for being the winner.
If you were to watch the speech, the viewer could easily tell he felt very honored, as anyone
would, being the first governor elected in 14 years. Abbott talks about his injury when he was in
his 20s and an oak tree fell on him, and paralyzed him from the waist down. You could see the
emotion in his eyes, and his shaken voice when he was talking about this subject, and that it was a
subject that was very sentimental to him. Texas is a state that provides many opportunities to many
people, it does not matter what race you are, if you have any disabilities, or how much education
you have; there are still many opportunities that Texas has for you. In his victory speech he wants
everyone to know that he is living proof of being pushed all the way to the bottom, and struggling to
get back up again, but with determination and perseverance anyone can achieve anything they want;
they just cannot give up. Governor Abbott mentions that we can provide more

A professional sport is a sport in which the players get paid to play and gets drafted from either

like Joe Flacco (Baltimore Ravens Quarterback (NFL)). Joe Flacco was born Joseph Vincent Joe

and is of Irish and Italian descent. He played football, baseball and basketball at Audubon High

redshirted for a team that went 8 5. In 2004, he became the backup quarterback that limited his
playing time behind starter Tyler Palko. He only played in three games against Ohio, Nebraska, and
South Florida. He finished the season with one completion for 11 yards. At Delaware Flacco saw
his first full time action in the 2006 season. He threw for 2,783 yards, and 18 touchdowns with 10

Summary Of I Am Legend Of The Fish Bowl By Richard Matheson
The stories that I choose from Richard Matheson s I am legend is buried talents, which
contained a horror theme of fear of the unknown. The story began with a man who dressed in a
wrinkled, black suit who has no facial expression walked into the carnival. He walked to one of
the booths that surrounded by cloud of people that playing a Ping Pong game. It was a game where
players throw Ping Pong into goldfishbowl to win a prize, which he quietly joined in later among
other players. In the beginning, no other players able to get the Ping Pong ball into the gold fish
bowl, no matter what techniques they used to threw the balls. After that, story started to build an
uncanny atmosphere towards the game operator when the strange man started to playthe Ping Pong
game as every Ping Pong ball that the man threw went straight into the bowl, every... Show more

In the previous part, we see that the black man pushed all his prized away and just want to keep
playing again and again. This gives us a good hint that something abnormal was going on and on
the very last paragraph of the story, the author mentioned that the game operator leans on the booth
and pressed both of his hands against his stomach, he felt like he was bleeding inside his stomach.
If we recalled in the earlier that the strange man in black suit managed to get every Ping Pong balls
into the fish bowl without any bouncing and such and now author foreshadowing that the game
operator felt that his stomach is bleeding, that gives us the unknown horror thoughts that maybe the
man has some kind of supernatural power that can put certain object into the place he want it to be.
Which conclude the story without straight out telling us whether if the strange man ahs the power
or he took the steak knives set away with him which brought us the read a sense of fear the

  • 2. Davidson s Ipod Summary Even so, an insider has advantages for seeing the situation more thoroughly, when they are loaded with too much details, it causes them losing the essence part of the event. When Davidson expresses her opinions about the new education, she has preconception too. She only wants her readers to see the good side of her new educationbut doesn t recognize that her opinions are strongly engaged in every example she gives. While she is talking about students are creative and invent their own way to utilize the iPod for academic, she ignores the students who didn t do well, which can lead to misinterpretation of the readers. Davidson fails to understand the advantages of modern education, and readers can also miss the importance of modern education... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moreover, Loffreda mentions that the media is broadcasting an inaccurate appearance of Laramie and overdraws the crime of Matt Shepard. She considers the media and many people as religious or political leaders who are now talking about the Matt Shepard case as fake hypocrites. Loffreda expresses her negative impression towards the people who show up to the protests after the incident, states that there was a tremendous outpouring of support the vigils, the parade and a lot of people not all of them, not even a substantial portion, but some of the people if they had known that Matt was gay while he is alive, would have spit on him (Loffreda, 244). Loffreda assumes that most people who are protesting and join the vigils, a portion of them are hypocrites, and are pretending because the event is stretched into a nationwide issue that has a huge influence around the world. What Loffreda doesn t admit, is that the media plays an important role in promoting concern of discrimination towards minorities and more people are actually paying attention to the issue and trying to fix it. Nevertheless, Loffreda does not catch that and she also generalizes those people as hypocrites, which is exactly what she previously complains about the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Mill On Liberty In these two works, the authors have a convergence of ideas. On Liberty is a philosophical discourse by John Stuart Mill. In this book, he delineates the link between the society and an individual. He also explains the utilitarianism theory in terms of the state and the society. Mill underscores the significance of individuality in an attempt to show the relationship between liberty and authority (Mill 3). Of interest in this essay are his views on wisdom. From the excerpt, Mill seems to be of the school of thought that man gets wisdom from various sources. He describes an open mind approach to criticism. He says that, We may, and must, assume our opinion to be true for the guidance of our own conduct: and it is assuming no more when we forbid... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It seemed to lean on the accuser s side without hearing Socrates side of the story. The jury therefore come to the scene with the preconceived notions of Socrates guilt. Socrates says, how you, O Athenians, have been affected by my accusers, I cannot tell, but I know that they almost made me forget who I was, so persuasively did they speak; and yet they have hardly uttered a word of truth. But of the many falsehoods told by them... (Plato 4) This is a deviation from Mill s ideology since according to him, proper wisdom comes from listening. From Mill s ideology, we can fault the jury for forming premature opinions before listening to all the possible sides of the story. He claimed that they were judging him by his character rather than the truth and the importance of the judgement to the society (Mill 41). He accuses Aristophanes for having corrupted their minds. He states that, their minds were poisoned by his enemies when they were young and impressionable. (Plato 10). It is possible that Socrates was a virtuous man and deserved to leave more than the men on the jury did. Mill states that, of these charges the tribunal, there is every ground for believing, honestly found him guilty, and condemned the man who probably of all then born had deserved best of mankind, to be put to death as a criminal. • 4. The Role Of Framing In News Media Framing is something that has been for hundreds of years. This is the way in which certain topics and issues are talked about to try to influence the way we think about an issue. This type of framing is seen on news media every day. Different types of news media may report on issues in different way depending on what the issue is. The framing can be really subtle with the use of different words that can portray two completely different meanings. The issue I will be talking about is immigration and how immigrants are reported in contrasting type of media. Immigration over the last years has become an increasing talking point in politics today. The left and right have contrasting ideas on what should be done about illegal immigration. News media... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Right leaning sources, like Bill O Reilly, Fox News and many republican politicians, often refer to unlawful immigrants as illegal. This type of frame has a negative connotation for immigrants. An immigrant may be seen as more of a criminal. It s interesting to note that this type of usage of the word is unique to immigration. Drivers that violate the law are never called illegal drivers . This type of frame makes the issue seem more of a cut and dry issue of illegal and legal. Immigration this way becomes a black and white issue. So if one is called an illegal immigrant then he must be a criminal. The expression invites for the easy use of the word criminal. Many articles that use this word also seem to tend to use the word criminal. The word criminal then has an even stronger negative connotation than illegal. The connection between those two words become even stronger when illegal is used as a noun. The noun illegals is only used for immigrants and not any other crime. The connection, thus may be stronger. When it s used as noun the term makes it more of an attack on the person rather than the actions of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Neighborhood Case Study Is a PNA Whittier s Next Step in Neighborhood Advocacy and Planning? In 2012, the Whittier Alliance released a strategic plan for the next five years that pinpointed critical steps towards increasing commercial activity and housing investments, raising environmental standards, and improving the Alliance s organizational structure. Could the adoption of a Private Neighborhood Association (PNA), as presented by the Mercatus Policy Series , support these steps? In my opinion, a full PNA will not move the Alliance forward. However, the Whittier Alliance could benefit and advance these goals if they adopted certain principles introduced by PNAs, specifically: growing community participation, empowering local knowledge in the Whittier neighborhood, and working to devolve some planning authority from the city and regional governments into the neighborhood s hands. Increasing Community Participation Getting people interested and invested in urban and community planning decisions often presents a challenge. Too often, communities across the country are reacting passively to planning changes instead of taking the initiative in proposing or influencing plans at the start. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While one might argue that, in the PNA model, a community of renters mobilized to share their preferences and vote with their feet might easily leave the neighborhood if decisions favorable to businesses and property owners and contrary to their interests prevail, this breezy conclusion rests on the shaky assumption that there exist alternative, no less affordable neighborhoods nearby. Finding a way to increase Whittier residents stake in planning decisions along with balancing the powers of businesses, property owners, and renters is the direction in which the Alliance must proceed, and it is clear that adopting a PNA will diverge from this good ... • 6. The Endangered Species Act These expenses are rarely tax deductible, leaving landowners uncompensated for the prohibited use of their property. The lack of financial support from the federal government undoubtedly creates a rift between the Fish and Wildlife Service and private landowners. Moreover, private landowners shoulder a regulatory burden in addition to financial burden as a result of the Endangered Species Act. Section 9 of the Act outlines prohibited private landowner actions, including the taking of an endangered species. The Fish and Wildlife Service defines a taking as the significant habitat modification or degradation that actually kills or injures wildlife by significantly impairing essential behavior patterns, including breeding, feeding, or... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Researchers believe that this difference is the result of preemptive habitat destruction by private landowners responding to the risk of regulatory requirements, also known as shoot, shovel, and shut up (Wilcove et al., 1996). They state that, landowners are afraid that if they take actions that attract new endangered species to their land or increase the populations of the endangered species that are already there, their reward for doing so will be more regulatory restrictions on the use of their property (Wilcove et al., 1996). The probability that the Fish and Wildlife Service will detect a species significantly increases the level of habitat destruction by private landowners, indicating that a fear of regulation is the motivation for this behavior. One frequently referenced case involves Ben Cone, a disgruntled landowner from North Carolina who faced heavy land use restrictions resulting from the presence of 12 Red Cockaded Woodpecker colonies on his property. The Red Cockaded Woodpecker, or Leuconotopicus borealis, was very populous in the sandhills region of North Carolina for hundreds of years, inhabiting cavities in mature longleaf pine forests (Walters, 1991). Because the species was found on his property, Cone was restricted from harvesting 1,500 acres of prime timber, worth over $2 million (Stroup, 1995). Cone became extremely frustrated with the federal government, famously saying, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The other problem plaguing him is the pricing and sales strategy to be employed. A low pricing strategy is imperative for the US market as there are many players in it, as for Europe having a reliable pricing schedule it s all about pricing vis a vis its major competitor First Solar. • 8. Johannes Kepler s A Perfect World Johannes Kepler was a modern individual and he believed that God would have created a perfect world and in that world everything was geometrically perfect. In Banville s book about Kepler it says, The search for knowledge everywhere encounters geometrical relations in nature, which God, in creating the world, laid out (Banville 1981, p.145). As he pursued the answer to planetary motion, he assumed that the planets orbited the sun in a perfect circle. He tried to seek order in his chaotic life through science and rational thought. While pursuing his research on planetary orbit, he struggled to keep his three worlds; rational, emotional, and social; in order. Kendura says that a novel provides knowledge of life as lived by individuals (Kendura 1988). Kepler s life definitely represents the hassles a normal person s life is like. In his rational world he could logically come up with a reason for different phenomenas. He spends his life researching planetary orbit and astronomical tables. Dealing with his rational world is somewhat easier than dealing with his emotional and social worlds because the rational world is based on research, facts, and evidence. For Toulmin planetary orbit is just a physical law of nature, which according to the Cartesian Dichotomy would fall under the body and not the mind. Kepler also follows the dichotomy in many ways, so he would probably agree with Toulmin. His emotional life is probably the messiest of his three worlds. In his emotional ... Economists generally think of three metrics of economic disparity: wealth, income, and consumption. Some studies have emphasized inequality as a growing social problem. Too much inequality can be destructive, because income inequality and wealth concentration can hinder long term growth. Early statistical studies comparing inequality to economic growth had been inconclusive, There are various numerical indices for measuring economic inequality. • 10. Outlaw Heroes Vs Official Heroes The outlaw and official heroes are two very different types of heroes that have be represented in American film. The outlaw hero is generally depicted as someone who works by themselves to reach the goal of defeating an evil. The outlaw hero will do this by his own methods while not necessarily following any written laws or codes. Because of this some people may interpret what he is doing to be immoral or wrong. The official heroon the other hand usually functions within a group bound by written laws. This leads the common folk to perceive him as much more heroic than the outlaw hero. While Ray s description of the heroes does show the distinct differences between the two, it fails to recognize the similarity that allows these heroes to change to the other type. For instance, Aragorn from Lord of the Rings began as an outlaw hero who was wandering through the wilderness by himself doing what he saw right. When Aragorn met Frodo, he joined others in the fight to vanquish Sauron thus becoming more of an official hero. As the story progresses and finally in Return of the King it is most apparent that his character has developed into a much more civilized hero who operates within a group. For example, Aragorn s speech to the army as they prepare to ride into battle shows just how much he has changed from his wandering state as a loner. He had become a leader of a community driven by a set of morals to defeat an evil power. This is one example of how an outlaw hero can change into an official ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Why Positive Intelligence Can Help An Hr Professional... Introduction The power of positive thinking has been lauded for its ability to bring light and good feelings to bad situations since the beginning of man. Everyone who was able to harness the power of positive thought was able to bring new and innovative inventions to mankind because they didn t allow failures and negative experiences shape the way they viewed the toils of their work. In other words, people were able to see the glass as half full rather than half empty which brought about positive outcomes because they were able to see through all the negative aspects of their work or life. This brief discussion will talk about just that, the power of positive intelligence. I ll begin by defining positive intelligence and talking... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Importance of Possessing a Positive Intelligence As we ve seen from the definition of positive intelligence, it seems as though the importance of mastering the concepts are self evident. We all want to perform at our best in whatever task we take on providing the greatest possible product or resource for our employer. We ve all worked with someone who has constantly portrayed a negative attitude and it never contributed to a highly effective workplace. John Maxwell is a motivational speaker and leadership expert has made a living off of getting people to think more positively through their daily tasks to produce high level results. In his Daily Reader book he provides an example of what positive thought and positive expectations can provide a person. He says that if a person gives themselves just 30 days of expecting the best of everything they will often receive the positive outcomes they perceive. He says a person will get out of their life everything they expect from it, god or bad (Maxwell, 2007). The power of positive intelligence can be profound on a personal and professional level and its importance should not be discredited. Set in the Victorian era (1800 s,) the dramatic monologue Patterns explores the restrictions of unmarried women in society and the desire for freedom. My view of these issues is that of a feminist reader living in a democratic modern day society, where men and women live in a state of equality and have the right to express their opinions. A feminist reading focuses on the specific treatment of women. Through Lowell s wondrous use of the poetic techniques, primarily visual imagery (symbolism, repetition, contrasts) and poetic voice (persona and tone,) a modern day feminist reader s negative views of the restricted lifestyles... This develops the idea that her future with this man as a married woman provided a stable lifestyle where she would not have to live by the rigid patterns of society, reinforcing a modern day feminist reader s view of the expectations and restrictions placed on unmarried women during the Victorian era. There is a distinct contrast between appearance and reality, which works to reinforce the idea of confining individualistic behaviours to retain the pattern of society. In stanza two, she says that tripping by in high heeled, ribboned shoes/ (there is) not a softness anywhere about (her) (lines 16 and 17) when she s wearing only whalebone and brocade (line 18.) The term whalebone refers to a whalebone corset, which is a very hard material that is restrictive to movement. By describing her actions as tripping, a modern day feminist reader is reinforced that she is not coping in her current lifestyle where she is limited to living in a strict manner. In the next stanza, she says that underneath (her) stiffened gown/ Is the softness of a woman (lines 32 and 33.) This develops the idea that the way she dresses is a deceiving appearance, because she is not as stiff and stable on the inside as she comes across on the outside. Deep down she is soft and sad, in mourning of the loss of her lover, yet she cannot express these emotions due to the expectations and restrictions of women during the Victorian era. ... • 14. United States Enacted The Patient Protection And... In 2010, through President Barrack Obama s advocacy, the United States enacted the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act ( PPACA ) in an effort to ensure that all Americans have access to health coverage. As part of the PPACA Congress directed the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services ( HHS ) to develop and implement a Medicare Self Referral Disclosure Protocol. The SRDP is intended to foster the resolution of potential or actual violations of Stark. This Section will give an in depth look at disclosures prior to SRDP, its enactment and the important developments in its brief existence. 1. Disclosures Prior to the SRDP Prior to this enactment providers had the option to make unsolicited or voluntary refunds to Medicare administrative contractors who process claims and issue payments on behalf of CMS. So, the thing that I feel I was most interesting to learn about was that most mutual funds don t even go ahead and beat the market, even with them charging high fees to have to go ahead and pay these so called experts to pick stocks for them. I had always been under the impression that most mutual funds had always made money, and usually had even be able to beat the markets out and had even thought of investing in one at a point in time during my life. When I had learned the fact that 80 90 percent of mutual funds don t even beat the overall market, it s really a disgusting thing to learn that these people then go around and charge commissions as high as 2 percent on most normal funds. What s even nicer to hear (sarcasm) is that when people sign up to these funds, the company will try to hide all the fees associated with joining such as a load fee which is charging a huge fee up front to join in with the fund, so a person won t want to leave the fund because they ve already lost a lot of money up front. This high percentage in respect to other nations is a result of incentives provided by the European Union for the purchase of diesel vehicles such as subsidies towards the production process resulting in lower premiums compared to petrol counterparts (Vidal, 2015) In additional with sales falling suppliers of Volkswagen would likely lose future contracts or have current contracts downgraded as less parts are required. • 19. Movie My Favorite Movie I love watching movies. Their ability to transport you to another world for two hours and make you care about people that aren t real is the most unrecognized form of magic. I m not a critic, so any movie will do, as long as I m interested enough to watch it. Many movies stick in my mind, whether it s a hilarious joke, an awesome fight scene, or simply a unique plot. There is one movie, however, which stands out among them all. A filmI had never heard of before viewing called Prisoners. From start to finish, I was invested in the characters and their goals. I felt their fear and desperation. I was in the movie, not sitting on my living room couch. The movie Prisoners was suspenseful, chilling, and memorable, so there is no doubt in my mindthat it is my favorite movie, and I will likely remember it for the rest of my life. The backbone of any good movie is the story. The story is the rope that the movie uses to drag you in, to make you feel for the characters, to make you more than a simple movie viewer. Prisoners was about Keller Dover, an average man with a teenage son and a young daughter. They have friends down the street, another family just like them. Life isn t perfect, but it s far from anything worth complaining about. Then. the unthinkable happens. The young girl goes missing. From that moment on, both the police and Keller search for her, but they use methods that are drastically different from each other. This poses a question to the audience: How far would you go for the people you love? The way the movie portrayed the desperation of Mr. Dover and the detective assigned to the case was perfect. As time went on, doubt and fear began to take over the minds of everyone involved. As they mystery was slowly unraveled, many twists and turns prevented the solution from being obvious. I was constantly thinking about what might have happened, and I was still nowhere near to close. The emotions felt by everyone who feared for this innocent girl and wondered where she was exploded on the TV screen. It was suspenseful, heart wrenching, and everything you could want from a movie. Truly, an excellent story propelled Prisoners into my mind and my heart, more than earning my favor. Besides a great storyline, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We are going to simulate the path of interest rate using CIR model and simulate the path of hazard rate using Vasicek model. Then we will get the survival function from simulated hazard rate and get the bond price from it. Lastly we will price the European options of the risky bond based on the simulated bond price by using both closed form formula (Jamshidian, F. (1989)) and Monte Carlo simulation. 2.Introduction Today, an increasing number of risky bond options have been introduced to customers, but only a few customers can understand how to price a risky bond option. The credit derivative is a new type of financial derivative which is based on the credit condition of the loan developed in the 1990s, and its function is to separate the credit risk from other risks of the primary assets and transfer it to the counterparty. If Rodney King had been driving along, hopped up on Chivas Regal and PCP and had killed Danny, you d be singing a very different tune about the force of those cops. In order to prove his point that King deserved the beating for what he had done, Derek presents the situation in a totally different light. Derek immediately shifts the discussion to something emotional (the death of his brother Danny) and the possibility of King hitting into someone during his high speed chase is totally off topic because he didn t in fact hit anybody. In doing so he uses appeal to fear to commit the fallacy of red herring. Derek s blatant racism against the struggling black man is shown throughout this scene. In this section, I express a brief description of the DC motors and the chosen speed reducer gears, then next chapter would include more details regarding the relation between the motors and the power moves the vehicle with all the accessories. Also, it should be strong enough to supply the enough digging force when supporting the arm. Mabuchi Motor Inc. is one of the major DC motor produces located in Japan. According to the manufacturer s official website, Mabuchi Motor was born and has grown together with a dream, the dreams of children, adults, technicians, and our customers. They have continued to move forward and grow, responding to the hopes of many people. (Ref#4) However, their products couldn t fulfill my needs and I decided to go with another more economic DC motor from RadioShack. (Fig#) Investigating the method to turn the vehicle left or right motivates me to use two of these DC motors simultaneously. One would actuate the right side and the other one controls the left wheels. Aforementioned motor works with 9, 12 and 18V DC power. However, as it will be mentioned more in details later, the power supply contains four 3.7V (total 14.8V) A123 batteries. RadioShack DC motor reaches 24000 RPM with the ... Effect of Hot Water Treatment on Germination of Acacia falcata seeds Chaarvee Sood Department of Biological Sciences, Macquarie University, NSW 2109, Australia Introduction Germination process for acacia species takes variety of factors and not necessarily that all species would take one coherent measures in order to germinate. Acacia falcata is one of the species for which the germination process could be easily being noted through treatment of boiling water. Although keeping in check that other suitable methodology can be taken to find results. Through several research conducted in the area of germination in acacia, it is now transparent that varieties of acacia seeds remain dormant in the soil and years may elapse until they all the viable seeds germinate. According to (Harding, 1940), the reason behind this dormancy is due to the coat of the seed of many acacia species to be thick, hard and highly polished. Hence reducing the moisture penetration to be a very slow process in natural conditions. According to the research in (Harding, 1940), it has been immensely shown that boiling water can improve the germination rate of acacia species. Particularly, Acacia pycnantha which was shown to highly germinate when dipped in boiled water for 5 seconds which had a percentage of 72.5%. However further study in (Harding, 1940) showed that Acacia pycnantha showed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduction Elizabeth Quay is located between barrack and Williams street and will cover 10 hectares of prime riverfront land. The inlet will be 2.7 hectares large. It is connected directly to, and extends an important north south city corridor that will make room for the main commercial, retail, transport, cultural, entertainment and education areas of the city. There will be 400 new hotel rooms built in Elizabeth Quay which is necessary to accommodate the tourists that are expected to visit. Negative impact 1: Since the project was announced, there have been many different opinions about whether or not Elizabeth Quay is a good idea. In July of 2012, it was found that 41% of the population of Perth was for Elizabeth Quay, while 36% did not think it was a good idea. Interestingly, it was found that liberal and green supporters were more in favour of the project than labor supporters. Many of those not in favour of the project believe that it does little for Australian heritage and that it isn t worth the disruption of traffic that would be caused by the closing of Riverside drive during the building period. It is also thought that many people in Perth are in fear of change; that they want it to stay the same sleepy town that it had been in the past. But in opposition to this, supporters of the project have rightly stated that Perth is the fastest growing city in Australia, and change is inevitable to support all the requirements of a large population. Negative impact 2: The appeal of the areas around the Elizabeth Quay development may have been affected due to noise, pollution, smoke and dust in the air and increased traffic congestion. This could affect the businesses around these areas as they may not have gotten as many customers. Also, buildings that used to be in prime positions (facing the river) will have lost value due ... • 38. What Are The Five Traditional Senses Internet Activity #6 The five traditional senses have been around since the time of Aristotle. Each sensory organ is made up of cells that have receptors for stimuli. In this way, the cells are linked to the nervous system and the brain. The senses are very primitive functions of the cells. Humans most developed sense is sight. The eyeis the sensory organ for sight. Visual input from the eyes is mapped by the back of the brain, and it is combined into one image, combining the image from both eyes into one. The brain flips images to look right side up because the focusing action of the lense causes images to appear upside down to the retina. Light is focused on the retina through a transparent lens. • 39. Jellyfish Jew Jack Prelutsky Analysis Jack Prelutsky s poem Jellyfish Stew is fresh, silly, and wacky. The combination of satisfying rhymes and content make it easily approachable for kids. I was inclined to it because of its peculiarity. The content matter seemed so random and I thought it would be fun to challenge myself by analyzing such a silly poem and trying to find depth. I also really enjoyed how much its rhymes were consistent in every line. Sounds A most memorable experience in reading a great variety of poems is the sound the poem makes. As children, we are drawn to repetitive rhymes and melodies more than content itself. It is nice to hear a familiar pattern as we evolve and expand our reading skills to more complicated poems. A key feature of sounds is a poem s rhymes. Repetition of similar sounds is often comforting and Prelutsky does it very well. In the first stanza, every line but two ends with the same sound; this is for variety: Oh, truly I do / You re creepy to see / Revolting to chew / You slide down inside / With a hullabaloo . The poem does not features alliterations, repetitions of initial sounds. Prelutsky makes up for this by including consonance and assonance sounds instead which are repetitions of consonant sounds and vowel sounds, respectively. The word you is repeated at the beginning of lines, frequently You re soggy, you re smelly / You taste like shampoo / You bog down my belly . Within those same lines, the repetition of the s and b sounds are heard as well. A fun example of an assonance is the following line: With oodles of goo . Both words are humorous and repeat the silly oo sound. A bit more complicated feature of sound is a poem s rhythm, a pattern created by beats. It is established by analyzing a poem s meter. In the first line of the poem, is a trochee: Je/lly/fish/stew but the majority of remaining syllables in the next few lines are unstressed, making it difficult to analyze the meter overall. Pictures Pictures in poetry are the images writers create which make us use all of our senses. Excellent pictures can make your mind travel to new destinations simply by reading. • 40. External Pressure On Public Administration After reading through the syllabus, there appear to be many direct linkages between this course and the previous courses that I have participated in. The first module focuses on external pressures on public administration. I learned about external forces on public administrators in Introduction to Public Administration, and Managing Change in the 21st Century. Though Introduction to Public Administrationonly gave a vague overview of external pressures, Managing Change gave greater detail on how there are forces outside of government, including citizens, interest groups and private sector companies who all will influence the decision making process. These same courses also focused on the internal pressures within organizations and government that will also impact the decision making processes of public administrators. Budgeting is also a topic that I have experience with. Budgeting in the public sector is entirely different than budgeting in the private sector. Lastly, my previous public administration courses emphasized the importance of performance expectation and improvement. Efficiency and effectiveness is a goal that public administrators everywhere should work towards. Of my previous public administration courses, there are two courses that made a significant impact on me. Ethics and Policy Administration, and Personnel Administration in the Public Sector were my favorite courses. I enjoyed the Ethics and Public policy course, because it focused on not only the ... This type of literature features supernatural and/or futuristic elements. Is serves as an umbrella term and includes science fiction, fantasy, literary fiction, supernatural fiction, horror, dystopia, utopia, (post )apocalyptic and superhero elements, as well as their combinations (Jackson and Moody Freeman, 127). At first glance the model s imitability appears to be a major barrier that is preventing a sustainable competitive advantage. However, decentralization is not a new concept and was certainly not developed by Cervus. The true value lies in Cervus ability to implement and execute the concept, which involves far more than simply imitating a model or a process. Thus, Cervus decentralization capabilities are actually quite difficult to imitate as they require a significant time investment.
