Racism For Dummies
How to deal with Racism for Dummies: AP Lit Edition With an ever growing and diversifying
population, race is a term that people have become more accustomed to. Many would say that as a
society, American citizens have taken steps to subdue and reduce racism. Others may say that the
government itself has adopted institutional policies to prevent racism. If such were to be true,
considering that those actions to fight racism have existed for at least a century, why is one not
able to see that those efforts to fight racism may be ineffective? Society for the past decades has
built a manner in which we assume that racism is wrong. Despite those efforts, hundreds of issues
concerning racecontinue occurring. Rather than taking perspective that racism is wrong, society
should have a more active focus on the population by providing education on how to respond
correctly to issues that can concern... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With this ideology, society as a whole can act against racism to a more efficient extent. Instead
of just simply simply stating racism is wrong, people will be able to learn to respond properly
respond to racism as how Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer have; society will have a more
tangible impact towards racism. For decades, the racism was viewed along a motif that it is
wrongful. It is present in law, literature, arts, and simple morals. Many of those steps that society
has taken focuses upon highlighting the damage that racism causes to both an individual and
society, yet, controversial racial issues occur at an alarming rate. The first recorded major effort to
subdue racism was the 14th amendment, being approximately 150 years. Since then, this direction
has integrated into society in which people are taught that treating people differently according to
race is wrongful. With that a effort for at least a century and such problems persisting, Thomson
Reuter argues, [that] it should be a clear indicator that the current stance against

Essay about Cultural Conformity
By definition, discrimination is the cruel treatment towards a person of a specific group, according
to his or her classification or status. For centuries, discrimination has been a big issue in many
countries over race, socioeconomic status, appearance and ethnicity. Racism continues to exist
primarily not only in the United States, but also in Europe and South America, with attempts to
block minorities from any opportunities. In Rick Bragg s memoir, All Over but the Shoutin, Bragg
reveals the influence of racismon the modern world. The effects of these unjust social practices can
be felt throughout humanity today.

This conception eventually influenced the phrase White Trash, a derogatory term in which
affluent white men describing the poor whites living in the United States under a substandard
lifestyle. Later in his memoir, Bragg provides an account where a local fraternity from
Jacksonville State throws a celebration for the children of poor families. Initially, Rick extends
his gratitude for the fraternity s kindness, but then has trouble relating to them because their
cultural differences. Bragg describes them as affluent people, not rich by Manhattan standards,
but Possum trot ones, (Bragg 97). He finds himself embarrassed and bitter at the ignorance of the
individuals who live with their backs turned to society. Bragg wished to capture the degree of
meanness, degrees of hatred, and of ignorance, that plagued the world (Bragg 62). Just like him,
thousands of citizens in United State experience prejudice and social prejudice at least once in
their lifetime. What makes it more upsetting is that the dehumanization and ridicule involved due
to one s current condition greatly impacts a person s likelihood to succeed. To an extent, society
has learned to embrace cultural differences. For example, countries like England and China share
some common interests such as in music artists like Michael Jackson and Ray Charles. However,
this isn t always the case for everyone. People, like Bragg, lived in a world where those around
him would not accept him,

Creating A Good Product Strategy And Investing On...
Competing in a DataConomy world
For most companies, competing is not a matter of just creating a good product strategy and
investing on delivering high quality and consistent output: to successfully satisfy customers
(internal or external), gain market share, increase profitability and grow the stakeholders value,
companies need to unleash the power of each data point that is collected or affects the Supply
Chain, the Market and the Resource Providers among other environmental players. Most companies
understand the value of information and constantly call out the saying Knowledge is power ;
however, efforts normally stop on getting few transactional reports and a handful of scorecards

The success of Microsoft strategy has allowed the company to constantly increase its market share,
shareholders value and, ultimately, its growth in this competitive environment. However, Microsoft
is not alone; similar giants such Google and Amazon constantly delivers new products in the BI
space. This market dynamic has created in the last years a culture of BI that is only possible by the
advances in technology, analytics frameworks and fierce competition.
There is no doubt on the existing capabilities to consume data, transform it into insights and
distribute it among the relevant business processes within the organization. Microsoft, Google and
Amazon had created powerful tools to help organizations and teams to achieve what Davenport and
Harris (2007) called Analytical Competitors, the highest level of the Five Stages of Analytical
Competition.
Subsequently, the topic to elaborate in this white paper is not about the existence of Business
Intelligence capabilities or the access of Microsoft to them, but the usage of such capabilities within
the numerous teams and business processes within Microsoft.
Usage of Analytics as a competitive strength for Microsoft
Thanks to its line of businesses, Microsoft has a privileged position to compete on analytics: the
company creates the products adopted by many other organizations to compete on analytics, to have
access to vast amounts of data, to understand how to store,

Loss Of Life Exposed In Endymion By John Keats
Of all the great poets of the early nineteenth century, John Keats (1795 1821) was the last to be
born and first to die. Born in London, England, on October 31, 1795, to a poor stable keeper,
John Keats devoted his short life to the perfection of poetry marked by intense imagery, great
sensuous appeal and an attempt to express a philosophy through classical legend. Although he was
brought up amid surroundings and influences by no means calculated to awaken poetic genius.
Rendered an orphan at the tender age of eight, his father s death had a deep rooted effect on the
young boy s life. In a more metaphysical sense, it shaped his understanding of the human condition,
both its suffering and its loss. This tragedy and others helped Keats later... Show more content on

Greenpeace and Politics
Greenpeace is an organization which often collides with governments in countries all over the
world in its attempt to stop things like global warming, deforestation, overfishing and more.
Greenpeace tries to reach their goals by direct action and lobbying. This is the part where they often
collide with the governments.
My questions about this topic are:
What conflicts does Greenpeace have (or did they have) with the government and corporations in
the Netherlands and governments and corporations of other countries in the world?
How exactly does Greenpeace influence governments and corporations?

They did this in several ways, they for example placed warning signs under more than 64
signposts of cities in middle and south Netherlands. Greenpeace activists also visited cities and
spoke to councilors and they dumped nuclear waste in several places. By now, more than 75
cities said no to nuclear waste and the energy company Delta declared in January to have put the
plans for a second NPP on hold. They declared it was not feasible anymore to built a second NPP.
However, minister Verhagen still wants a second NPP, though he does not seen to get much support

In December 2011, Greenpeace campaigned in the harbor of IJmuiden against harmful giant ships
which was about to set sail to the waters West Africa. Because of overfishing in the European seas,
ships like these now have to go to other seas because they cannot catch enough fish in European

The ships against which Greenpeace was campaigning was part of the Pelagic Freezer Trawler

Life And Death By Woody Allen
Have you ever thought about what you will see after death? In Christianity, people believe in
going to heaven or hell after death. In Buddhism, people believe in transmigration, which allows
our souls go to another body without our memory. I do not believe in any religion, so I have no
idea where we will go after death. However, no matter where will we go, I bet most people will
regret something in their lives before they die. For example, we did not treasure the time with
friends and family, try to finish some unachievable task or pursue our dream. In Death Knocks ,
Woody Allendistributes a different perspective on life and death, which makes me think deeply
about life and death. The main character, Nat, is living as an old dress manufacturer in Brooklyn.
One day, Death comes to find him and tell him Nat is dead. Nat does not believe that until he
sees Death is almost break his neck climbing in the bedroom window. Unlike Death in a movie
or religion, Allen gives us a new perspective on Death s outlook. Death might look exactly same
as us and we can talk, argue or negotiate with the Death, such as Nat requested Nat: Give me
some time. Another day (Allen, P.1282). I have never thought about what Death looks like since
I am a teenager and Death seems so far away from us. But when I am getting older, I will start to
realize that Death is popping up in my life. Some strangers in my life disappear. Although I do not
want to admit it, everyone will dead and that is the cycle

Who Is Hrothgar s Loyalty In Beowulf
Men seem to be happy when they drink mead, or liquor. It s obvious what goes on inside the mead
hall. Men conversing and laughing while they pour themselves another cup of mead. . The beauty
of the land that Hrothgar and his warriors live on makes them happy.
Loud in that hall, the harp s rejoicing
Call and the poet s clear songs, sung
Of the ancient beginnings of us all, recalling
The Almighty making the earth, shaping
These beautiful plains marked off by oceans,
Then proudly setting the sun and moon
To glow across the land and light it;
And leaves, made quick with life, with each
Of the nations who now move on its face. And then
As now warriors sang of their pleasure:

Till the monster stirred... ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Basically, it s like Hrothgar and his warriors are angels and Grendel is a demon. Angels and
demons have completely opposite characteristics which is why Grendel is angered by the warriors
singing happily and enjoying life.
Grendel keeps attacking Hrothgar s warriors because like the devil, he wants to weaken their
faith in God. As a result, Hrothgar and his warriors pray to God to get rid of Grendel and keep
them safe. They don t keep that faith through the attacks though. Hrothgar and his warriors start to
become weak because they feel like their prayers aren t doing anything but causing more deaths.
When Grendel can see that change he likes it. He knows that he has weakened Hrothgar and his
warriors so he keeps attacking to finish the deed.
Beowulf is a man that you do not want to mess with. He is wise, bold, and strong minded. If you
were to challenge Beowulf you would be made a fool out of. He has no fear of death because he
has seen so many different terrors in life. He has killed numerous monsters and survived covered
in their blood. He could be just about the bravest man ever. Beowulf does not want to be looked at
as a coward so he keeps his battles fair.

The Council On Tall Buildings And Urban Habitat
When driving into a city the horizon is always very awe dropping, highlighted by the various
high rises and skyscrapers that outline the city. The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban
Habitat (CTBUH) defines a high rise building as a building whose height of over 75 feet creates
different conditions in the design, construction, and use than those that exist in common
buildings of a certain region and period (CTBUH). High rise buildings exist in our civilization,
mostly in our large cities, to save space and money. In large urban areas, cost of construction is
87% cheaper to build up than it is to build outward (NFPA). In urban areas, land space is limited
and very valuable. Skyscrapers can house different purposes consisting of; office space, apartment
living, and even entertainment purposes. These types of buildings present several unique
challenges not found in traditional low rise buildings; longer egress times and distance, evacuation
strategies, fire department accessibility, smoke movement and fire control. Dr. W. Z. Black is a
member of the American Society of Fire Safety and Engineers; He stated, During an emergency, the
multiple floors of a high rise buildingrequire great numbers of persons to travel great vertical
distances on stairs in order to evacuate the building (Black). Based on the numerous issues and
concerns found within high rise buildings, it is evident that fire safety is a major problem.

Reasons For The Compromise Of 1877
Following the Compromise of 1877, many supporters of black rights, such as freed slaves or
radical Republicans, believed that conditions for freed blacks were worse than they had been when
they were enslaved. Though there were definitely upsides to freedom from slavery, many
conditions blacks lived under either didn t change or got worse after the Compromise. For example,
the removal of the military from the South allowed the southern government to pass laws limiting
blacks rights, meaning the social, political and economic conditions after the compromise were
similar to the ones they had lived with under slavery; the legalization of segregation made it more
difficult for blacks to influence white perception of their race; and violence against blacks
increased, and white protection of them decreased, as many saw them as less valuable once they
had been released from slavery. The compromise ended the reconstruction, which meant that the
military presence in the south, which had been virtually the only thing keeping a semblance of
order, was removed. This resulted in widespread and often unpunished violence against blacks. It
also left the southern government free to operate by itself, and measures were quickly taken to
limit the rights of blacks. Education budgets were cut, sharecropping regulations were changed in
order to favor plantation owners, and the right to vote was taken away from blacks. Blacks were
free from slavery, but they had nearly the exact same

If the body is disfigured in any way you may be required to do some restorative procedures on the
body, using materials such as clay, cotton, plaster of Paris and wax
(Lamers 535). You would be required to fill in any open wounds left on the body by law, but
would use a picture of the deceased and try to make them appear as life like as possible for the
showing (Shipley 201). Most important, however, are the tasks in which you guide, counsel and
become involved in the needs of the bereaved and the sensitive, effective manner in which you
handle their personal grief (IRN 6). When the body has been embalmed and taken care of you
need to help the family choose a casket from the display room the they wish there loved one be

ceremonial, logistical, and administrative details which are required to make sure that the funeral
service goes smoothly and in strict accord with the wishes of the family or other survivors (Lamers

secular, that will best meet the needs of the bereaved. Creative, alternative ceremonies in keeping
with the deceased s lifestyle can have special significance and meaning to the family. For example,

Control Of Rome In Julius Caeser s Julius Caesar
In Julius Caeser, a play by William Shakespeare, Julius Caeser takes control of Rome, but in the
process, is vanquished by conspirators that believed he would not be a good leader. Once
murdering Caeser was completed, Mark Antony, a good friend of Caeser and a high ranking
military official in the Roman army, enters the scene and asks to speak at Caeser s funeral after
Brutus, one of the conspirators and another very good friend and nephew of the deceased
president of Rome. Brutus accepts, and the two speak to the people of Rome with varying
viewpoints on the death of their friend. Brutus believes the best interest of Rome was the death of

people could not put up a fight with their opinions to argue versus the facts they set forth or the

Who here is so base that would be a bondman? He is asking in the context that he is making the
men and women believe Caeser could have made them all slaves if he became a king of Rome,
and he is making sure to ask this question in a way that speaking against his statement would
immediately bring ridicule towards whom speaks. Antony, on the other hand, uses a past event that
all of them had seen evidence to support against Brutus point about Caeser deserving to die because
of his ambition: I thrice presented him a kingly crown, which he did thrice refuse. Was this
ambition? (III:ii:94 95) With the way Antony presents himself, if the people he is speaking to
watched him attempt presenting Caeser a kingship over Rome and also watched him refuse, how
can they argue? Also, how could they see that as ambitious? This further strengthens Antony s

The Importance Of Mimes In The Roman Empire
In the Roman Empire, in its early years there was a great confrontation between the Romans and
the Christians. At this point in time Christianity was a new and growing religion. These Christians
believed that their God was the only God. They didn t create idols of Him or build Him temples as
the Romans did to their gods. These Christians also had another problem with the Romans and that
was their theatre. They didn t have a problem with comedies or tragedies but with Mimes.
According to the text it says that Because some mimes included sex and violence as part of the
performance and because many of them mocked Christianity, Christian writers and believers
demanded unsuccessfully the outlawing of the theatre of their time, which is to say, mime and
pantomime. They were unsuccessful in the outlawing of mimes and pantomimes but in 313 CE the
Emperor Constantine issued the Edict of Milan and proclaimed religious tolerance to the Christians
in the empire. The Christians were unable to hinder the mime movement and it became even bigger
with other entertainment becoming just as excessive as mimes were considered to be.

her to enter the literary contest of his magazine entitled Opportunity: A Journal of Negro Life. Even

The Lady Tasting Te Summary
The Lady Tasting Tea: Summary of the book
The lady tasting tea takes the reader on a fascinating trip in the history of the statistical revolution.
The contributions of many brilliant minds to the field of statistics as well as their personal lives
and historical perspectives were described.
The story began in a sunny afternoon in Cambridge in the 1920s. A group of scientists was having
a tea party when a lady claimed that there was a difference in taste between the cups where tea was
poured into milk and the cups where milk was poured into tea. Sir Ronald Fisher who became a
famous statistician suggested an experiment to test the lady s hypothesis. The story then goes to the
1890s when the statistical revolution started. Karl Pearson was considered by many as the founder
of mathematical statistics. Pearson discovered the skew distributions stating that they would cover
any type of data scatter and he described these distributions by four numbers; mean, standard
deviation, kurtosis and symmetry. Later a Polish mathematician, Jerzy Neyman showed that
Pearson s skew distributions can not be used to explain all possible distributions. Sir Francis Galton
who discovered fingerprints was also interested in statistics and he founded a biometrical laboratory
to measure height and weights in families to find a mathematical formula that predict the height of
children from the heights of their parents. He described regression to the mean where heights of the
children moved away from

The Contemporary Advocates Of Liberalism
In the thoughts of the contemporary advocates of Liberalism, one of the most noticeable and
extensive accomplishments of the Early Modern time period is the expression, protection, and
justification of civil liberties including the ability to run for and attain office. From the
seventeenth century to present day, a number of distinct argumentative policies and approaches
have been established in order to defend the common civilian s ability to attain political office.
Over the past several decades, great advancements have been made in order to allow minorities
and even females to run for office. Politics and religion are two of the toughest matters to
deliberate with people of any area. The only item more problematic to have a heart to heart about
than politics and religion is the practice of taking religious means and interpretations into the
political jurisdiction. Some of the most controversial and newest topics in present day society are
those that are deeply affected by religious means such as abortion, legalization of same sex
marriage, and warfare. Richard Rorty and Alan Stout have very conflicting views over when and if
it is socially acceptable to bring religion into a discussion over public concerns. Although neither
philosopher prohibits the practice of religious support in an argument, Rorty believes that using
religion in the conversation dealing with public concern is ignorant, senseless, and irresponsible.1
Rorty believes that religious reasoning is not a

How Did John Maynard Keynes Influence The Modern World
John Maynard Keynes, is considered one of the heavy weights when it comes to modern economic
theory. In today s world there are two major schools of thought when it comes to economics,
Classical and Keynesians. This shows you the impact that he had in the world of economics. His
studies and writings have shaped our modern world.
Keynes got involved into economics because of the time period in which he lived in. He was
seeing the effects of the great depression in his home of Great Britain. The measures taken to stop

Emancipatory Use Of Popular Theatre
Historically, research with vulnerable groups experiencing health inequities has been problematic
(Quinlan, 2009; Smith, 2012). The imposition of research agendas and failure to engage research
participants at the very onset of a research project can yield findings that are incomplete and
misrepresent the knowledge and resources of those being researched (Wilson Neville, 2009). For
example, throughout the world Indigenous groups have been researched to their detriment, often
with little or no representation or rights with respect to the researchprocess, or to the interpretation
and use of resulting data (Moodie, 2010; Smith, 2012). The imposition of western research

Freire developed an approach to adult literacy education that involved not only reading the world,
its circumstances and conditions, (Anna Pilar help here please) but also reading the world
through the development of critical consciousness (Freire, 1973). Critical consciousness allows
people to question the nature of their historical and social situation reading their world with the
objective of acting as critical subjects in the creation of a fair and democratic society (Freire,
2002). Freire encourages people to be active participants in their lives. It is through his method that
Freire challenges traditional methods of education that were inherently oppressive and
dehumanizing where students were mere recipients of teacher s knowledge (Freire, 2002, 2004).
According to Freire (2002, 2004), there are injustices and inequities that exist in society and the
world. These injustices and inequities make it necessary for people to analyze the issues and act
upon them, to create a more just and equal

Cost Of Woman
The Cost of Being a Woman The average woman menstruates from around age twelve until about
age fifty (Nelson). This means that for around thirty eight years, between approximately two to
seven days a month, a woman bleeds as her uterus sheds and menstrual blood flows from the
opening in the cervix out of the vagina (Nelson). During those times women are in need of
feminine hygiene products. In the majority of our country women pay sales tax on these necessary
products. In this way women are paying our government for simply being women. These products
are a necessity that women need, just like groceries, which are exempt from sales taxes in the
majority of the United States. Women should not have to pay extra taxes on products that they...

Perry Buck, a republican from Windsor, Colorado, stated in support of a bill that would cut the
tampon tax in Colorado, I m happy if they exempt the male hygiene products, to me, for the

context inferring that removing the sales tax on items such as men s razors and razor blades
would level the field between sales tax placed on products specifically meant for women or men
(Stice). There are two issues with this solution. One being that women will then want the sales
tax removed from their razors and razor blades as well, putting men behind in what seems to be
some sort of government taxation game. This game would then cause a slippery slope of
requests for sales tax cuts on any number of male or female specific products. The second issue
being that in no way are razors an absolute necessity. Razors are a clear want, not a need. It is not

The main focus of the present study will be to observe the effects of a role playing game on the
anxiety and confidence levels among college sophomores enrolled in the CUNY institutional
system. Specifically, this study will observe the effect of World of Warcraft on students perceived
levels of anxietyand confidence. 200 CUNY sophomores enrolled in a Calculus II course will be
measured by the Generalized Anxiety DisorderScale 7 at weeks 1, 7, and 13 and by the Self
Confidence Inventory at weeks 2, 8, and 14. Students randomly assigned to the experimental
condition will complete two forty five minute World of Warcraft sessions for a total of ninety
minutes a week for a period of fifteen weeks. It is predicted that students in the experimental
condition will have a significant decrease in their scores on the Generalized Anxiety Disorder
Scale 7 and an increase in their scores on the Self Confidence Inventory at the end of the study.
Also of interest in the present study is the academic achievement among both the control and
experimental participants. Participants GPA will be recorded from their Calculus I course and will
again be recorded at the end of the semester in their Calculus II course.

How Does Shakespeare Use A Love Triangle In A Midsummer...
Within Shakespeare s A MidSummer Night s Dream, he uses a love triangle with many of the same
concepts seen among young teens today. Teenagers tend to have many love triangles. These
triangles tend to consist of two things, a childish attitude and the inconsistency of love. This
inconsistency of loveleads to many problems. As the reader reads the story, he or she may notice a
few things to watch out for while growing around the realms of love.
Shakespeare revolves his play around four lovers who illustrate the complications often seen in
young love. In the story Hermia, Lysander and Demetrius are fighting over each other s love:
Relent sweet Hermia and Lysander yield Thy crazed title to my certain right (Shakespeare 13).

Hermia has an old friend, Helena. When Helena found out that Demetrius was in love with
Hermia she was very upset: The more I love, the more he hateth me (Shakespeare 21). The reader
may notice that Helena s problem is that Demetrius is in love with Hermia but Helena wants
Demetrius to love her. This shows that love from this time to today has stayed the same because
the characters in the story are unsure of who they love. Love is special when you are a teen.
Teenagers are still trying to find the true meaning. Within the midst of all that is going on, There is
King Oberon and Queen Titania. Although they are married, King Oberon seems to not understand
the concept of loyalty: Then I must be thy lady. But I know when thou hast stolen away from

The Gangster Film Genre Of The Mafia
The gangster film genre is a subgenre of the crime film, dealing with organized crime and more
often than not, the Mafia. Though gangster films have their root in the silent era, the genre
became widely popular in the 1930 s Hollywood Studio era, which is characterized by the
Hollywood Genre System. Genre films offered economic advantages, including the repeated use of
standardized themes, elements, characters and iconography. Additionally, genre films were easily
marketable, as audiences knew what to expect from each genre. If a viewer enjoyed one filmfrom a

discovery that her constant vigilance brought into the open, as she saw a comet of unknown origin.
It occurred to her that this might be a comet. Maria recorded the presumed comet s coordinates.
The next night the star moved again. This time she was sure it was a comet. Her father wrote to
Professor William Bond at the Harvard University observatory about Maria s discovery.
Professor Bond submitted Maria s name to the king of Denmark who had offered a gold medal
to a person who discovers a comet seen only through a telescope. Another person, Father
Francesco de Vico of Rome discovered the same comet two days later (Mitchell p.105) than Maria
Mitchell and the decision was made to award him the prize before news of Maria s earlier

John Skylitzes Portrayal Of Women In Byzantium
What is Learned
In a hypothetical scenario where John Skylitzes Synopsis is the only account of the Byzantine
Empire from 867 1025, modern interpreters would get an odd picture of what women s roles were
in Byzantium. Women were married, they had children, and they sometimes plotted murder. Most
were utterly irrelevant to the course of Byzantine history from Skylitzes point of view. If women
were notable or took an action other than getting married, giving birth or dying, they were almost
exclusively commiting a malevolent act. From this perspective Skylitzes shows interpreters that
women in Byzantium were on the whole irrelevant or dangerous or both.
This perspective doesn t encompass all women though, as Danielis is a notable woman who has
agency and is not presented as evil. Leo VI is said to have built a church to honor his first wife
Theophano. Women are shown to be reliable if they have a vision of the future, as seen with
Michael III s mother Theophano and a woman mentioned during the reign of John Tzimiskes.
These few portrayals of women in different settings than the three typical ones show a reader that
women were good enough in some instances to be respected by men and on the whole worthy ...

Other factors should also be considered such as a company s products, management, competitors,
and vision for the future. (Fieldsend, Longford and McLeay, 1987). Following are the cautions
while doing financial analysis. First, a single ratio does not generally provide sufficient
information from which to judge the overall performance and status of the firm. Only when a
group of ratios is used can reasonable judgments be made. If an analysis is concerned only with
certain specific aspects of a firm s financial position, one or two ratios may be sufficient. Second, It
is preferable to use audited financial statements for ratio analysis. If the statements have not been
audited, there may be no reason to believe that the data contained in them reflect the firm s true
financial condition. Third, the financial data being compared should have been developed in the
same way. The use of differing accounting treatments, especially relative to inventory and
depreciation can distort the results. (Whitis and Keith, 1993). Time series analysis is applied when
a financial analysts evaluates performance over time. Comparison of current to past performance,
using ratio analysis, allows the firm to determine whether it is progressing as planned. Using
multiyear comparisons can see developing trends, and knowledge of these trends should assist the
firm in planning future operations. As in cross sectional analysis, any

When it comes to politics, America has it good. Citizens that are over eighteen are able to vote on

Monogamy Vs Polygamy
Relationships are complicated, especially romantic ones; they involve a wide range of emotions
and expectations that need to be met or the relationship will fail. When it comes to polygamy there
are even more variables added to the equation since there are additional partners involved in the
relationship. Unlike the common belief that polygamyis where a man has multiple wives, it is
actually much more in depth where both sexes can have other romantic partners. As long as one lets
their partner know who they are seeing the relationship is considered healthy, although there is still
the obvious possibility of jealousy occurring. Honesty is everything in polygamy, even though

In the United States it is illegal to be in an any of the three forms of polygamy if one is married.
In the early days Mormons were even persecuted if they were found practicing polygamy. If
individuals want to be polyamorous they must do so without being lawfully wedded to their
partners. In a society that is constantly progressing towards giving people their rights, polygamist
still struggle in being viewed as a legitimate way of life. With the gay rights movement having so
much momentum and finally becoming legal in the United States, polygamist thought the outcome
could soon be the same for them. The one major argument against polygamy is that it is a choice
unlike the predetermination of one s sexual orientation. Critics suggest that individuals should just
be single instead of engaging in a relationship where they are not faithful to one person. Although it
is not certain where the future of polygamy is headed, the controversial lifestyle is growing in
popularity as more people explore their sexual and emotional identities.
There is no doubt that as time goes on new generations develop different attitudes than their
parents which in turn shapes the modern world we live in. As far as marriages go, people are no
longer in such rush to get married, have children, and start the typical family associated with
adulthood. This in part could be because of high divorce rates that many individuals have
experienced either with their parents or someone they know. Cathy Meyer

The Current Solution American Citizens
The current solution American citizens have resulted to for riding the nation of undocumented
immigrants is deportation, even if this means separating a family. This affliction happens all too
often in America: a child is separated from his or her parents, sometimes lucky enough to have
family members to look after them, and other times orphaned. 4.5 million American citizens have at
least one undocumented parent according to estimates by the Pew Hispanic Center. And
unfortunately, 438,421 deportations in the year 2013 alone left 5,100 children in foster care (Pew
Hispanic Center).
Diane Guerrero, an actress on Orange is the New Black, is the daughter of two undocumented
immigrants (Guerrero). Diane s parents migrated in pursuit of the American dream because in
Columbia they combated economic hardship (Guerrero). Her family sought the economic equity
and social mobility that was offered to all persons in America. Tragically, Diane s parents tried
to become legal but to no avail (Guerrero). Their attorneys only pocketed their money and did not
help their cause (Guerrero). As a child, Diane lived in fear that the American government would
deport her family (Guerrero). This horror was all too soon realized for Diane when she was
merely 14 years old: after coming home from school one day, her family was nowhere to be found;
the immigration officers had robbed her of them (Guerrero). On top of dealing with the emotional

Reactive Attachment
Development is an essential and mandatory constituent of human life that operates on multiple
levels. It is a precise process, and there are a number of factors that affect its effectiveness. In
particular, the development of a child is determinant of the adolescent behaviors, uniqueness and
intelligence. Therefore, a considerable degree of weight is placed on the components that lead to
the maturity of the child. In the development of a child, one of the key principles is called
attachment. Just as safe attachment between the caregiver and the child can result in successful
physical, mental and social development, vulnerable attachment can yield damaging consequences
for the child in these areas (DeMulder, Denham, Schmidt, Mitchell, 2000). Reactive attachment
disorder is a likely outcome of unsafe attachment that eventually restricts the child s capacity to
emotionally and socially connect with other individuals, while destroying the cognitive ability as
well (Crosson Tower, 2013). This paper presents a detailed discussion on the attachment disorder in
children and its impact on child development. Reactive Attachment Disorder The term attachment

The Great Ideals
The exploration of the mind is an action. To explore and think of new ideas is another worldly

remains at the center of thought that attempts to counter the pleasures of the sensual life (Jacobus

one s senses and how one s perceive them.
To add on, Plato s cave is seen in many forms of depictions. Individuals have given many
definitions to what his allegory is portraying. In short, it is man in a cave with no view of the
outside light and is set to have his life perceived by mere shadows. Morris explains, The shadows
are what the prisoners deem to be real, so they must stand for what we deem to be real (418).
Plato classifys the cave s world as the Lower World , meaning no act of wisdom is inside for all
man knows is one place. Plato also classify s the outside world as the Upper World as being the

Self Assessment
After taking the self assessment test, I realized what I needed, what I had and what I needed to
acquire in order to be successful in my doctoral degree. Furthermore, the result of the assessment
helped me understand who I am as a learner, and why exactly I am in this program. The
assessment helped me acknowledge how bad my weaknesses were. Finally, the assessment
helped clarify my mind on the areas of research that interest me. With the result of this
assessment, I am confident now about successfully completing my doctoral degree. As a learner, I
am a very inquisitive, and philosophical thinker. I have a strong craving to know more by reading
different genre of books or researching online. I view myself as a lifelong learner. According...

I want to help by being an Industrial and Organizational Psychologist. As a psychologist, I will
understand the behavior of individuals. Furthermore, I will learn about leadership models. Most of
all, I will learn how to conduct research that will bring awareness to my community.
My strength is personal preparation skills; these are skills I erudite during my master s degree
program. They are time management and online learning experience. Time management is a skill
that has helped me set and accomplish different goals in life. Online learning is a skill I attended.
I love my private space and time alone to think and reflect. As a result of my master s program, I
am more experienced in using the online library resource to find journal articles.
The area of growth I will need in order to succeed in this program is my writing skills. I
understand that academic writing is an important part of my development as a doctoral student. It
is the only way I can demonstrate my learning experience (Lloyd, Marjorie, 2007). This is the
reason I am taking out time to work personally on my writing skills. By the end of this semester, I
will be on the same level as my

Hippocampus Drug Effects
An alcoholic beverage is a drink that contains a psychoactive drug ethanol, a depressant which in
low doses causes euphoria, reduced anxiety, sociability which in higher doses could be caused by
unconsciousness, lack of critical mental function and intoxication. Drinking alcoholic beverages is
not a current event, the production, transportation and the distribution of alcoholwere banned in the
1920s under the presidency of President Woodrow Wilson by the Eighteenth Amendment. This
paper talks about the effects of excessive drinking of alcohol termed as alcohol dependence on the
volume or size of the hippocampus of humans. The hippocampus is a small organ located in the
temporal lobe. The hippocampus is an important part of the limbic system. The hippocampus is
mainly associated with memory, mainly long term memory which is important in the learning
process.
There are many reasons why people drink, and one of the main reasons is to feel good. Research

The Between Camp Four And The Summit
Many factors contributed to the bottlenecks between Camp Four and the summit, including: The
fact that no Sherpas left ahead of the climbers to fix ropes to aid in climbing above the Balcony,
which left the climbers waiting while Beidleman, a guide, fixed the ropes; the Taiwanese team,
who were climbing very slowly and all together, making it impossible to pass them, therefore
creating delays for the climbers behind them; and the fact that once the ascent had begun, Hall s
Sherpas were not eager to assist in fixing the ropes, presumably because they were angry that
Fischer s Sherpas were not sharing the workload as had been originally planned.
Krakauer was critical of Boukreev in this section of the climb because Boukreev was not using
supplemental oxygen or a backpack, both of which Krakauer felt he should have had in the case of
an emergency, as Boukreev was a guide, and charged with helping and protecting the clients, an
ability which Krakauer thought was inhibited by this lack of oxygen and supplies, especially
considering how much the high altitude and thin air affects the ability to think clearly.
Just before reaching the summit, despite the fact that he was having difficulty breathing, Krakauer
was actually quite calm but disoriented, and relatively excited about the prospect of reaching the
summit. However, at the moment of his summit, he did not feel the elation that he expected, but
rather apprehension and dread about what he knew to be a difficult descent.

  • 2. Racism For Dummies How to deal with Racism for Dummies: AP Lit Edition With an ever growing and diversifying population, race is a term that people have become more accustomed to. Many would say that as a society, American citizens have taken steps to subdue and reduce racism. Others may say that the government itself has adopted institutional policies to prevent racism. If such were to be true, considering that those actions to fight racism have existed for at least a century, why is one not able to see that those efforts to fight racism may be ineffective? Society for the past decades has built a manner in which we assume that racism is wrong. Despite those efforts, hundreds of issues concerning racecontinue occurring. Rather than taking perspective that racism is wrong, society should have a more active focus on the population by providing education on how to respond correctly to issues that can concern... Instead of just simply simply stating racism is wrong, people will be able to learn to respond properly respond to racism as how Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer have; society will have a more tangible impact towards racism. For decades, the racism was viewed along a motif that it is wrongful. It is present in law, literature, arts, and simple morals. Many of those steps that society has taken focuses upon highlighting the damage that racism causes to both an individual and society, yet, controversial racial issues occur at an alarming rate. The first recorded major effort to subdue racism was the 14th amendment, being approximately 150 years. Since then, this direction has integrated into society in which people are taught that treating people differently according to race is wrongful. With that a effort for at least a century and such problems persisting, Thomson Reuter argues, [that] it should be a clear indicator that the current stance against ... For centuries, discrimination has been a big issue in many countries over race, socioeconomic status, appearance and ethnicity. Just like him, thousands of citizens in United State experience prejudice and social prejudice at least once in their lifetime. What makes it more upsetting is that the dehumanization and ridicule involved due to one s current condition greatly impacts a person s likelihood to succeed. • 5. Loss Of Life Exposed In Endymion By John Keats Of all the great poets of the early nineteenth century, John Keats (1795 1821) was the last to be born and first to die. Born in London, England, on October 31, 1795, to a poor stable keeper, John Keats devoted his short life to the perfection of poetry marked by intense imagery, great sensuous appeal and an attempt to express a philosophy through classical legend. Although he was brought up amid surroundings and influences by no means calculated to awaken poetic genius. Rendered an orphan at the tender age of eight, his father s death had a deep rooted effect on the young boy s life. • 7. Life And Death By Woody Allen Have you ever thought about what you will see after death? In Christianity, people believe in going to heaven or hell after death. In Buddhism, people believe in transmigration, which allows our souls go to another body without our memory. I do not believe in any religion, so I have no idea where we will go after death. However, no matter where will we go, I bet most people will regret something in their lives before they die. For example, we did not treasure the time with friends and family, try to finish some unachievable task or pursue our dream. In Death Knocks , Woody Allendistributes a different perspective on life and death, which makes me think deeply about life and death. The main character, Nat, is living as an old dress manufacturer in Brooklyn. One day, Death comes to find him and tell him Nat is dead. Nat does not believe that until he sees Death is almost break his neck climbing in the bedroom window. Unlike Death in a movie or religion, Allen gives us a new perspective on Death s outlook. Death might look exactly same as us and we can talk, argue or negotiate with the Death, such as Nat requested Nat: Give me some time. Another day (Allen, P.1282). I have never thought about what Death looks like since I am a teenager and Death seems so far away from us. But when I am getting older, I will start to realize that Death is popping up in my life. The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) defines a high rise building as a building whose height of over 75 feet creates different conditions in the design, construction, and use than those that exist in common buildings of a certain region and period (CTBUH). High rise buildings exist in our civilization, mostly in our large cities, to save space and money. In large urban areas, cost of construction is 87% cheaper to build up than it is to build outward (NFPA). In urban areas, land space is limited and very valuable. Skyscrapers can house different purposes consisting of; office space, apartment living, and even entertainment purposes. • 10. Reasons For The Compromise Of 1877 Following the Compromise of 1877, many supporters of black rights, such as freed slaves or radical Republicans, believed that conditions for freed blacks were worse than they had been when they were enslaved. Though there were definitely upsides to freedom from slavery, many conditions blacks lived under either didn t change or got worse after the Compromise. For example, the removal of the military from the South allowed the southern government to pass laws limiting blacks rights, meaning the social, political and economic conditions after the compromise were similar to the ones they had lived with under slavery; the legalization of segregation made it more difficult for blacks to influence white perception of their race; and violence against blacks increased, and white protection of them decreased, as many saw them as less valuable once they had been released from slavery. The compromise ended the reconstruction, which meant that the military presence in the south, which had been virtually the only thing keeping a semblance of order, was removed. This resulted in widespread and often unpunished violence against blacks. It also left the southern government free to operate by itself, and measures were quickly taken to limit the rights of blacks. Education budgets were cut, sharecropping regulations were changed in order to favor plantation owners, and the right to vote was taken away from blacks. • 14. The Importance Of Mimes In The Roman Empire In the Roman Empire, in its early years there was a great confrontation between the Romans and the Christians. At this point in time Christianity was a new and growing religion. These Christians believed that their God was the only God. They didn t create idols of Him or build Him temples as the Romans did to their gods. These Christians also had another problem with the Romans and that was their theatre. They didn t have a problem with comedies or tragedies but with Mimes. According to the text it says that Because some mimes included sex and violence as part of the performance and because many of them mocked Christianity, Christian writers and believers demanded unsuccessfully the outlawing of the theatre of their time, which is to say, mime and pantomime. They were unsuccessful in the outlawing of mimes and pantomimes but in 313 CE the Emperor Constantine issued the Edict of Milan and proclaimed religious tolerance to the Christians in the empire. The Christians were unable to hinder the mime movement and it became even bigger with other entertainment becoming just as excessive as mimes were considered to be. The contributions of many brilliant minds to the field of statistics as well as their personal lives and historical perspectives were described. The story began in a sunny afternoon in Cambridge in the 1920s. A group of scientists was having a tea party when a lady claimed that there was a difference in taste between the cups where tea was poured into milk and the cups where milk was poured into tea. Sir Ronald Fisher who became a famous statistician suggested an experiment to test the lady s hypothesis. The story then goes to the 1890s when the statistical revolution started. Karl Pearson was considered by many as the founder of mathematical statistics. Pearson discovered the skew distributions stating that they would cover any type of data scatter and he described these distributions by four numbers; mean, standard deviation, kurtosis and symmetry. Later a Polish mathematician, Jerzy Neyman showed that Pearson s skew distributions can not be used to explain all possible distributions. • 32. John Skylitzes Portrayal Of Women In Byzantium What is Learned In a hypothetical scenario where John Skylitzes Synopsis is the only account of the Byzantine Empire from 867 1025, modern interpreters would get an odd picture of what women s roles were in Byzantium. Women were married, they had children, and they sometimes plotted murder. Most were utterly irrelevant to the course of Byzantine history from Skylitzes point of view. If women were notable or took an action other than getting married, giving birth or dying, they were almost exclusively commiting a malevolent act. From this perspective Skylitzes shows interpreters that women in Byzantium were on the whole irrelevant or dangerous or both. This perspective doesn t encompass all women though, as Danielis is a notable woman who has agency and is not presented as evil. Leo VI is said to have built a church to honor his first wife Theophano. Women are shown to be reliable if they have a vision of the future, as seen with Michael III s mother Theophano and a woman mentioned during the reign of John Tzimiskes. Only when a group of ratios is used can reasonable judgments be made. If an analysis is concerned only with certain specific aspects of a firm s financial position, one or two ratios may be sufficient. Second, It is preferable to use audited financial statements for ratio analysis. If the statements have not been audited, there may be no reason to believe that the data contained in them reflect the firm s true financial condition.
