Example Of Nonviolent Resistance
Nonviolence resistance has been used to achieve many goals in the past, whether it is a political
goal, a social goal, or an economic goal. According to Clausewitz, war is the continuation of politics
by other means, and the reason why nonviolence resistance can be considered a type of warfare is
because the goal is to get what they desired. A well known example of this was the Civil Right s
Movement, whose goal was to end segregation and discrimination against African Americans. This
movement encompassed three broad categories created by Gene Sharp: nonviolent protests and
persuasion, noncooperation (economic and political), and nonviolent intervention. A few groups
that were involved in this movement and that displayed these categories were the National
Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the Southern Christian Leadership
Conference (SCLC), and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). Despite being
nonviolent called nonviolent, though, there are some occasions where violence is present.
However, because it is called a nonviolent resistanceit can be confusing for others to even consider
this as a type of warfare. The NAACP, SCLC, and the SNCC all displayed nonviolent protests and
persuasion. The NAACP however was more focused on legal strategies and actions, such as going
through court cases and creating lawsuits to confront the civil rights issues that African Americans
were faced with during that time. They used legal action instead

Participaative Leadership And Authoritarian Government
A leader, at least according to a Google search, is a person who commands a group, organization,
or country. This however is not true as leadership almost transcends just giving orders. Leadership
requires knowledge and charisma to properly pull it off along with some way of being bonded to
your people (either by totalitarian government or by a complete anarchy). Leadershipis something
else, though I don t know quite yet. To lead, you ve got your choice of not one but three different
leadership styles; Participative, Delegative, and Authoritarian. Participative is where the leader,
played by you, asks your subordinates what to do, though you still have the final say over what is
done. A good example of a participative leadership is a democracy; as the president asks the people
and congressmen what should be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Delegative is where your still top dog but you have other employees look over certain sections in
your place. A great example of this is with the Roman Empire, as they had local leaders serve in
place of the overall emperor but had to answer to the emperor themselves. Authoritarian is the
easiest to do and explain (at least on paper), simply put, all the power is yours and you don t
have to ask anyone or share it. The best real world example would be a dictatorship (like Stalin,
Hitler, Mussolini, and Kim Jong Un s family) as the leader there has absolute power without any
question or feedback.
What I m going to attempt here to retell the story of a man who lead a broken nation back to
power, a man immortalized as the face of evil and hate, who is always forgotten for what he did

Hitler. Now I m not saying he s a

The Descriptive and Symbolic Conceptions in Social Studies
1)Symbolic forms are of vital importance in the social studies not only as an object and/or
occurrence, whether naturally occurring or not, but it is also of significance in the socio
contextual situation in which it is received. These symbolic forms can appear as actions and
expressions, conversations, a variety of artifacts artifact being defined as an object made by a
human being, typically holds cultural or historical significance and texts. (Thompson, 1990, pg.
122) (http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/english/artefact) Everyone makes use of these
symbolic forms on a daily basis to express themselves and their emotions in any variety of ways,
while conforming to commonly accepted means of expression within that individuals society. By
interpreting the reaction they evoke, they develop an understanding of the connotations associated
with the symbols. Once they have learned the social context of the symbols they further their
knowledge of each social background and its construct. For example the symbol of a crucifix and
of a red rose are both simple items, with individual associations under different contextual situations
which determine what relevance that item holds. The crucifix is an artifact holding religious
significance, whereas a red rose is a naturally occurring object which has been assigned its
association with love within specific societies. The associations attached to symbols is entirely
dependent on its socio cultural context in which it is

Marc Lepine – Psychology Perspective
MARC LEPINE
PSYCHOLOGY PERSPECTIVE
ABSTRACT
Marc Lepine, a 25 year old boy entered the corridors of Montreal s Г‰cole Polytechnique
University and started separating boys and girls. He then opened fire and killed 14 girls (The
Montreal Massacre Gunman massacres 14 women, 1989). Looking into Marc s case deeply and
studying his childhood reveals that his actions can be significantly explained using psychological
theories such as Miller and Dollard s Four Stage theory, the idea of lacking empathy and Bowlby s
and Ainsworth s attachment theory. This paper not only depicts the effect of the psychological
deviant behaviours but also its connection to above mentioned theories. Steps have been taken to
take this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When he separated all the girls onto a corner, one girls tried explaining him that they are not
feminists, just ordinary girls wanting to be engineers. He was so carried away by his hatred that
he addressed all the engineering students as feminists women who are going to be engineers are a
bunch of feminists (Eglin and Hester, 2003) and killed them. In Marc s life, just as in any criminal
s life, the absence of empathy played a major role in making him a criminal and committing a crime.
DOLLARD AND MILLER STAGES
Dollard and Miller talk about four essential stages in ones childhood. All the four stages are
important for the proper development. If any of the stages is missing, it can have negative results
throughout the life. The four stages are feeding, cleanliness, early sex training and anger / anxiety
management. No evidence of a faulty training on the first three issues is present in Marc s Life.
However, fault at the fourth stage, anger/anxiety management, was present and played a major role
in leading him to commit the crime. With the lack of the fourth stage development, an individual is
not able to control his anger. If not worked on this, over time this becomes very dangerous and can
lead to destructing results.
The atmosphere he grew up seldom showed any anger / aggression management. His father used
to physically abuse him and his mother for very little mistakes. As a child, he learnt the only way

White Collar vs Blue Collar
Imagine there is a society, and in this society there are only two households, one of them is a
white collar family, the other is a blue collar or working class family. To keep it simple, white
collar workers are highly skilled and usually work in an office setting, while blue collar workers
perform more labor based jobs and get their hands dirty. Now you may ask, what do these two
groups have to do with each other? Well, their differences are what bring them together, and
neither group would be able to operate without the other. Personally, I grew up and still live in a
white collar familyand this alone has shaped my household environment. I would also imagine
growing up in the other class would have an impact on your household environment as well.
Although these two households are quite different from each other, they still impact one another
and society today wouldn t be the same without either of them. If someone were to talk about a
home , there could be a number of things that could come to mind. When I personally think of
home I think of a place of peace and acceptance that you share with the ones you love. No matter
what your definition of home is, everyone grows up in a different home environment. I first lived in
Farmington, Minnesota but eventually moved to Prescott, Wisconsin in fourth grade. One of the
things that I think has effected my very own home environment is the fact that my dad has a white
collar job. My dad is a certified public accountant and

The Product Being Used For An Organic Compound
Introduction When it comes to creating or performing a reaction, the solubility of the product
being used is very important. Knowing the biological and physical processes of your product is
the start of any experiment. Obtaining this information plays a key role in choosing solvents for
processes such a recrystallization. Recrystallization is a procedure for purifying an impure
compound in a solvent. It is used only to purify solids in large or small quantities. That is the
purpose of this experiment. The product being used for this experiment is acetanilide (C6H5NH).
The goal is to purify and recrystallize the organic compound in the appropriate solvent. Acetanilide
was first introduced to the world in 1886 as a pharmaceutical fever reducing drug. When proven to
be ineffective, it was chosen as an alternative pain reliever since it is converted to acetaminophen
when inside the body.
In the first part of this experiment we will learn to crystalize an organic compound then later on
recrystallize it with the use of an appropriate solvent. The molecules of this compound are able to
return to its previous solid form due to the solvents inability to hold on to its molecules and they
start to move freely out in the solution and begin to form solid crystals. The reaction of the product
being studied is shown below. The product of this reaction can be analyzed using NMR and IR
spectrums.
Experimental Acetanilide was synthesized from a starting material of aniline (2mL)

Critical Success Factors
Quality is a very important factor in restaurants because a visit in a restaurant is usually something
people do to enjoy rather something that is of vital importance. Even if the prices for the meals in
a restaurant are low and the delivery times short this cannot compensate for poor quality of the food
, specially also because this is a health aspect. This makes it necessary to implement a quality
controlsystem to ensure that the quality of the food is always on a high level.
In a restaurant, there are 6 important areas which have to be considered.
Accessibility, parking and surroundings
Reception
Kitchen cleanliness and utensils
Safety measures
Dining room

delivered from Thailand. The preparation is done in the morning. The preparation is completely
made for they could be done instantly after the orders are made. Preparation table nears stove and
fridges so it quite convenience.
Front process (Service)
An employee is always behind the cashier counter to do take orders and do the checking. Dish
collecting is done by the employees to the kitchen. The table cleaning is done every time the
customers leave a table.
Back process
Cooking is made to order, and done after an order is made. Dish collecting and washing is done as
soon as the customers finish their meal for each table in dish washing machine. Waste managing is
done twice a day, once after lunch, and once after dinner.
Analysis
So, the overall quality of the restaurant is good because of Service , Accessibility, parking and
surroundings and Kitchen cleanliness and utensils factors in TQM. Analysis results are evident that
the restaurant success mainly comes from those three factors. Accessibility, parking and
surroundings factor have the effect in making the restaurant success in preprocess stage, Service
factor play important role to the success of restaurant in front process and Kitchen cleanliness and
utensil factor has significant effect in back process. Reception , Safety measures and Dining room

The Tort Of Negligence Is The Most Important Area Of...
The tort of negligence is the most important area of modern tort. It is the main tort of concern to
business ventures (O Toole, 2014). Its major aim is to compensate the claimant. It is a breach of a
duty that defendant owes to the plaintiff, resulting in damage to the claimant. It is not related to a
particular act but with a way of acting and is thus harder to define. The basic elements of the tort of
negligence are a legal duty on part of the defendant towards the claimant to exercise care as falls
within the scope of a duty, breach of that duty, and consequential foreseeable damage to the
claimant that can be attributed to the defendant s conduct. Till the nineteenth century, liability in
negligence exists only in recognized cases,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the case of Home Office v Dorset Yacht Co (1970) Lord Reid appreciated the neighborhood
test and suggested in his Dicta to take it a step forward. This view was subsequently endorsed in
Anns v Merton London Borough Council (1978) where Lord Wilberforce proposed a two stage
approach. The large expansions in the areas of tort took place after the formulation of this test.
This criterion altered the way in which the neighborhood test was used. Previously the courts
had to used it to justify new areas of liability if there were policy reasons for excluding it. In
other words, policy was now to operate as a long stop. The general principle established in Anns
came under heavy criticism both from the judiciary and the academics. The first major criticism
can be fund in the case of Governors of the Peabody Donation Fund v Sir Lindsay Parkinson and
Co Ltd. Lord Keith noted that there was a tendency to treat the test in Anns as if it was of
definitive character. A more fundamental assault was launched on the test in the case of Yuen
Kun Yeu v Attorney General of Hong Kong (1988), in which it was held, that for the future it
should be recognized that the two staged test was not to be regarded as in all circumstances a
suitable guide to the existence of a duty of care. The case of Murphy v Brentwood District Council
(1991) finally cleared the air with regard to this

Monster Clytemnestra In Aeschylus Oresteia
The Monster Clytemnestra in Aeschylus Oresteia
In the three part play Oresteia, Clytemnestra is a character that manipulates, lies, cheats, and
murders. From the very first moment we hear of her existence, we know she is unlike the women
of her time. Oh she s a woman all right, a woman with a man s heart. (11) the watchman in the first
scene of Agamemnon tells the audience. This tells us that she does not act in a way that the
watchman associates with the women around him. Already, in the first few lines of the first
installment of the play, we know that Clytemnestra is different. Throughout the play, Clytemnestra
tries as hard as she can to keep herself on top, stopping at nothing to get what she wants. She
wants to rule the city and she wants to have power over the people in her life. She is power
hungry, manipulative, and determined. This determination is not a good thing for the people
around Clytemnestra. Because of her need for power, she ends up turning on almost everyone
she is supposed to love. This is what leads to her eventual death. Clytemnestra is a dynamic
character, who does everything she can to be on top killing, lying, cheating, and murdering are
just a few of these things. She does not care who she hurts, or what she does to get where she
wants to be. It is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Water Supply Between Industrialized And Developing Nations
Currently, only 2.5 to 3 percent of all the natural water sources available on Earth are composed
of fresh water as written by Paul Alois, a researcher and writer for The World Bank. Alois
continues, less than 1 percent is easily accessible for human use due to most of the natural water
sources being unaccessible. As the global population grows, the environment keeps changing, and
over usage of water sources continues, freshwater sources are only going to deplete even further.
Consequently, 2 billion people lack access to clean water and more than 80 countries are presently
suffering from water scarcity as reported by The World Bank, a nonprofit scientific research
organization. However, it seems as if the population in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Robert Glenton, Professor of Law and Public Policy at the Rogers College of Law, states that the
population of the United States has surged from 285 to 322 million since 2000. According to
Glenton, the american population increases by over 180,000 residents annually. Furthermore,
Glenton adds that In 2000, Americans used a staggering 408 billion gallons of water each day.
Utilizing the given statistics, it s safe to assume that the number of gallons being used by
american daily have increased tremendously. Yet, these numbers are dramatically different if
compared with less developed countries. In an article written by Mark Fischetti, an author for
The Scientific American, Fischetti demonstrates that The U.S had the highest per capita water
footprint, at 2,842 cubic meters per year. However, India s footprint is only 1,089 cubic meters a
year. Comparing the population of the U.S (322 million) to the population of India (1.252
billion), it s clear that a more developed nation takes advantage of it s water resources. As a result
of more privileged nations taking their water resources for granted, it has become apparent that less
privileged nations experience the most backlash. As a result, the fresh water scarcity has caused the
rapidly increasing global population to

Descriptive Essay About Roller Coasters
Roller coasters are horrible, in my opinion anyways. Mostly because I m so trusting of the way
everyone says they re so amazing and great. News Flash they aren t! But every time I m at a
theme park, I let them persuade me into riding them. I sure won t make that mistake again! It
was late at night, and Busch Gardens would close in one hour. My family and I were hoping to
go on one last ride, since they had closed for two hours earlier. That s when we came across
Cheetah Hunt. Sure, it looked friendly from the outside, but it sure wasn t on the inside. So,
who wants to go on Cheetah Hunt? My dad asked us. No way, my sister, Kira, responded, I don t
want to die tonight! Come on! It ll be fun I pleaded, hoping I wasn t going to be stuck with my
father. I glanced at the ride, and saw it s deadly loops mocking me. My stomach flipped and I wasn
t even in line! Maybe I shouldn t do this... I thought to myself. I looked at the teal rails and
reassured myself. It doesn t look too bad, I said, You could handle it, maybe. Even though I was
talking to Kira, I knew it was just to help me. Mostly because she would never in a million years
ride a roller coasternot even a toddler one. Soon enough, we had all made a decision, everyone
would go on Cheetah Hunt except Kira. We walked into the building where the lines were forming.
It was decorated with savanna trees carved into the wall, stone leaves glued to pillars, and even
some chiseled cheetahs every now and then. We

Domestic Violence In Sports
If someone were to turn on a sports channel such as ESPN, within five minutes someone would
have seen the media talking about a crime performed by an athlete. Most likely it will be an NFL
player because that is all that gets into the media. NFL Athletes are not given nearly the correct
punishments by, the justice system and the NFL for crimes like child abuse, domestic violence, and
other major crimes. In the past three years, there have been over 150 NFL players charged with a
crimethat the media knows about. The outcome in all but seven of them was no jail time ( NFL
Arrests and Charges ). One of the most notorious cases of all time involved O.J. Simpson who was

Also, the point of this is to not label male athlete s wives of being the only victim, as it is not
impossible for a case to have a man as a victim. The NFL must also earn commendation for really
marketing against domestic violence with great national commercials going against domestic
violence. But sadly there have been 98 cases of domestic violence in the NFL and those are only
the ones that have been reported. Those are only cases that have been reported, and it is likely
that there are a few more that have not been reported putting the number of domestic violence
cases in the last 15 years over 100. Ray Rice is one of the more recent players charged with this
crime and is still eligible to play in the NFL today. Rice received a $125 fine and counseling, that
s it (NFL Arrests and Charges). A man that makes millions of dollars a year and was caught on
surveillance dragging his unconscious wife out of an elevator was charged just $125 dollars. It
seems nothing but ridiculous that the court would have this verdict, but when you are in one of
the highest paying jobs in the country, you can afford the best lawyer possible making it so
much easier to get away with crimes. The NFL commissioner, Roger Goodell, also has a play in
this. Originally, Rice was only going to serve a 2 game suspension and then he was eligible to play
again. However, since there was so much

Vacuum Truck Excavation Case Study
Vacuum Truck Excavation Cardno developed a new process that includes standard, archival
research coupled with ground penetrating radar investigations to identify potential historic
archaeological features at any given project area. This analysis is followed by controlled
excavation with vacuum trucks to locate and excavate features more accurately than traditional
Phase I methodology. This technique has the potential to determine National Register of Historic
Places (NRHP) eligibility without the need for a traditional Phase II evaluation, and helps
minimize accidental discoveries after project construction has begun. Light Detection and Ranging

Harvey Milk Film Analysis
The earliest Gay Rights Organization started in 1924 and has been growing ever since.
Homosexuality was thought of as a mental illness until 1973 when it was removed from the
official list of mental disorders. Around the same time, one huge supporter of gay rights, Harvey
Milk, started to become more popular and many people, gayand straight, started respecting and
following him more and more. He was also known because he, lit the fire of today s national and
global LGBTcivil rights movement. (Weigle 1). In the movie Milk, Harvey Milk really showed
how much power he truly had and other characters in the movie showed how much being a part of
the LGBTQ community can affect your identity. This movie also explores how power can affect

In the movie, Jack, Luna Diego, had some serious mental health problems. He was Harvey Milk
s significant other and they loved each other so much. During this time being gay along with
having mental health problems was just a natural disaster waiting to occur just like it explains in
article 2, Dustin was gay and to him this meant that he had only two, equally bleak options: to
vanish into the periphery or to commit suicide. (Weigle, 1) Not many people accepted it, and to
think someone feels as if they only have two options because their sexuality is not the norm is
insane. People were just starting to recognize mental health as a sickness and not just as being
possessed or something in that general category. It was looked at more positively than
negatively. Being gay, as said in the beginning, is still not very accepted and Jack having all of
this plus dealing with the stress of Harvey s campaigning and advocacy for Gay Rights just put
him over the edge. It really had an effect on Jack s identity. He probably did not even know who
he was anymore. People identified him as gay and someone with mental health problems and
these opinions are what really pushed him to the edge. He later committed suicide because he
could not take on the stress of all that anymore. Another example from the movie would be
Harvey Milk himself. Did being an advocate and fighting for his rights affect him as a person?
Definitely. He had a great relationship with another man before Jack and before all this
campaigning started. That obviously did not last because of

Abortion Is Not Strictly the Woman s Private Matter Essay
Abortion Is Not Strictly the Woman s Private Matter
When it is said that abortion is just a woman s issue, we forget that there are two people involved
in creating a child. Fathers are continually overlooked and disregarded in situations involving
abortion. Many would say that a father is not affected by the woman s choice to have an abortion.
Legally, fathers are responsible for providing prenatal support for their preborn child, but have no
legal rights if the mother decides to terminate the life of that child. Many fathers have gone to court
to try to stop mothers from going through with their abortions. However, according to the courts,
when it comes to abortion, a mother s right to abortion overrides a father s objections. ... Show more

We know that the baby has a completely different circulatory system than the mother, and often a
different blood type. He or she has a completely different genetic code. We know that by the 21st
day after conception the baby s heart has begun to beat (Tanner 64). Brain waves are detectable by
day 40 (Hamlin 20), and movement also begins around this time (Arey). By eight weeks, when a
woman generally discovers she s pregnant, all body systems are present (Hooker). One doctor,
operating on an ectopic pregnancy at eight weeks, discovered an extremely alive, perfectly
developed little person, vigorously swimming in his environment with a natural swimmer s stroke.
(Rockwell 11) The preborn child is unmistakably human, unmistakably alive, and unmistakably
distinct from the mother.
Does the baby feel pain in an abortion? The pain mechanism has been found to be functioning in
the preborn child as early as 45 days after conception. Abortion does cause pain (Noonan 213,
Reinis 223 235, Collins 922 923). In the film, The Silent Scream, an actual first trimester abortion
is seen via ultrasound. The baby can be seen repeatedly moving to dodge the abortionist s suction
instrument, and her heart rate doubles. As she is dismembered, her mouth opens in a silent scream.
Abortion is violence against preborn children, and against the women in whose bodies the violence
takes place.
What about a woman s right to

The primary purpose of a story focused on the destructive impact of war on the people especially
the one who server in battle. War is in Vietnam that a Boy name Henry served. He got imprisoned
for three years in Vietnam. After that, he could come back home to his other sibling which they
were waiting for him. Henry did not have the emotional stability that he used to have before the
going to war. This is the point that Erdrich points it out very clearly is her short story. The audience
can be realized the purpose of her story while she is reading throughout the story. For instance, at
the beginning of the story, Henry with his brother Lyman bought the Red convertible. They were
a very happy family that they made a road trip with their in the summer as Erdrich wrote We d
made most of the trip, without putting up the car hood at all. We got home just in time (327). She
could have addressed that Henry was the active and happy person before going to war.
1. Is the writer trying to entertain or to educate?
Edrich entertains the audience with her book. However, the book is education people in so
many ways. She described an American Native family. The reason perhaps is that because she is
half an American Native from her mother side. She used her heritage to develop her characters so
that her characters in the books which are also Native American are also are real. Thus, when
something is real people get educated maybe not in a direct way, but it can be the indirect way.

Island Made Thesis
How was the Island Made
By:Jonah Jacksteit
Thesis Statement This report will talk about how the marooned island got made.
An island 2000 km south of Hawai i. The island is at 1В°52 23.40 N and 157В°19 6.69 W and
spans 717 square kilometers of land. On this land there were volcanoes but after some time they
got eroded away. In this report I will prove that there was a volcano on the island and I will do so
by stating how the plants, climate, location and animals prove that there was a volcano.
Plants There are very few native plants on the island. The only plants that are on the island are
breadfruit trees, pandanus trees, pawpaw trees, coconut trees, babai(a type of taro root), mosses
and mangrove trees. There are also yams lemons, and sugarcane as non tree plants. These seeds
for plants probably got transported to the island by birds except for the coconuts because there
aren t any land borders to any other island. Because there are no land boarders it gives us some
evidence that the island got made by a volcano.

Neiman Marcus Data Breach Case Study

Data breaches are common and seem to be reported, on a monthly or even weekly basis. So what
makes the Neiman Marcus incident still relevant? The difference is that victims are suing Neiman

Throughout The Past Century, China Has Powered Through
Throughout the past century, China has powered through the obstacles of famine, unrest, economic
dislocation, and enormous construction costs to continue its rapid development. Now a preeminent
world power, China faces yet another development challenge: climate change. Current and past
trends suggest that Chinawill treat this problem as it has the other issues, ignoring damage to public
welfare while maintaining an obsessive fixation on projecting an image of modernity. The one
potential saving grace would be a shift in global attitudes about modernity; if the world begins to
consider environmentally sustainable development as a necessary condition to modernity, China

Compared to the death of 200 million during the Great Leap Forward, the visible climate issues
like flooding and air pollution feel tolerable. As Chinese industry develops, cities are growing with
barely a pause to consider their toll on the environment, much less the future impact of global
warming. The lack of concern for visible, short term issues spells doubt on China s ability to
handle longer term climate issues like rising sea levels.
Nowhere is the lack of concern for short term issues more pronounced than in the Pearl River Delta,
where the growing metropolises of Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Dongguan lie. The rising South
China Sea and the overstressed Pearl River network neighboring the cities lie just a meter or so
below much of the region s industrial center. Despite the extreme danger posed by the rising waters
(tens of thousands of citizens lost their homes during flooding in Guangzhou), the Chinese
government has continued development and remained mum on the issues. The authorities would
rather show off the region s shiny new office towers and airports than fix costly sewers that could
help with flooding. According to some in the city, people here still focus on the economic side of
things, similarly ignoring climatic dangers. Just like in the previous century, wilful ignorance of
consequences during the pursuit of modernization pervades Chinese society: This became our idea

Theme Of Hector And Irruin In The History Boys
Hector is the Hero of Act One and Irwin is the Villain How far do you agree?
In Allan Bennett s, The History Boys, controversial teachers hector and Irwin are made out as one
hero and the other a villain. The ability to be able to distinguish these complex characters as a
hero, a person who is admired for their admirable nature; or a villain, who s immoral and erroneous
actions characterise them distinctly; is irrelevant as they both harbour characteristics seen as
desirable and distasteful. Both Hector and Irwin display qualities characteristic of being both a hero
and villain, therefore neither being solely one or the other. Hector and Irwin are neither solely a
hero or villain as they both commit actions that are typical of being a tragic Hero (Hector) and an
Anti hero (Irwin).
Hector can be seen as the Hero in this play as his want for his students to be enriched by
education portrays him as a cool and revered mentor. To become this figure that appeals to the
audience, hector s teaching style is portrayed as irrelevant, interesting and energetic. Irrelevance
is affirmed by his use of French in the comedic prostitute scene (p12 19). The use of the French
language in the dialogue is used to convey how connected the boys and Hector are. The
flourishing nature of French presents a kind of mystery to their fun; to all that don t understand, it

United States military; Instead, they are highly skilled soldiers who work independently charging
large amounts of money to terminate enemies. The United Stateshas been hiring Blackwater, which

Mercenaries need to be stopped being used because they allow governments to do whatever they
please without getting caught. Gilsinan argues, both [drones and private military companies]
should be part of the same category, because they allow national governments to get involved in
fighting without actually having citizens do it. And that creates moral hazard for policymakers,
because it lowers the barriers of entry into conflict (Gilsinan). When Private military contractors are
used they break any established laws to complete their mission. Governments use these contractors
because they realize that they can get away with breaking international laws by having the
mercenaries break them. This is atrocious because if the United States decides to keep using
contractors and these private contractors continue to break laws then conflict will appear. When
other governments begin to see hired contractors doing what they please they will begin consulting
with mercenaries as well. Borger analyzes, When the United States started to rely on private
military companies, it unleashed this new globalized industry of mercenaries. That s why we ve

Analysis Of Rappaccini s Daughter
Lauren Thomas
Professor Saunders
ENGL 231
October 23rd, 2014
The Theme of Love in Rappaccini s Daughter Nathaniel Hawthorne s short story Rappaccini s
Daughter holds the theme of love at its forefront. The story delineates the struggles, both internal
and external, that Giovanni Guasconti faces when courting a young woman named Beatrice
Rappaccini. Beatrice s love of a plant and her father s love of science are conflicts that also
highlight the theme of love. Along with these conflicts, Hawthorne uses the theme of love to pose
the question of whether or not love is worth fighting for as well as critiquing a tragic flaw in
romantic relationships. These elements combine together to make a compelling argument that love
is simply not worth the struggle it imposes. The first conflict that arises in the short story is the
internal conflict of Giovanni. Giovanni moves from his home in order to study at the
University of Padua and sees Beatrice Rappaccini underneath the window of his new home. The
conflict Giovanni faces stems from his affection and blooming love for Beatrice. Giovanni sees
Beatrice s beauty as brilliant, so vivid in its character, that she glowed amid the sunlight (pg. 7).
However, her beauty is rivaled by her horror. Whenever a creature is near her breath, it dies.
Giovanni begins questioning whether or not loving Beatrice is a wise decision. Her horror keeps
him at bay while her beauty and her personality draw him in closer. The second conflict that

Effects Of Transcendentalism

season. Around me, I see people bustling in all directions, scrambling to find those perfect
presents that, sooner or later, will be forgotten about, buried in the darkest crevices of one s closet
or, perhaps, already on their way to the dumpster. I have oftentimes wondered what instigates
people to accumulate objects, which end up barely fulfilling their needs, therefore, initiating the
never ending cycle of consumerism. Having lived in the United States for seventeen years, I have
come to acknowledge that Americans possess an unfulfilled desire for purchasing, supposedly

To my knowledge, many people, including transcendentalists Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry
David Thoreau have observed these issues begin to develop in America as early as the nineteenth
century. By stressing the ideals of living one with nature, far from the realms of society s corrupting
influence, they have, inevitably, sparked a movement of minimalism, that merits much more
attention than it receives. This motivates me, as an individual who intends to major in urban
studies, to conduct research and statistical analysis to determine why our culture has a
predisposition for consumerism, provided that most Americans are already heavily indebted.
Exploring the multiple factors that account for such a prodigious trend in our country could help us
identify and counteract the effects that it has on our environment and economy. Of course, this is
an immense challenge to overcome, yet it is also one of the most urgency; it is, inevitably, a threat

Explain The Humanistic Approach In Health And Social Care
The humanistic approach is a person centred approach which depends on trust between the
patient and care giver. It is useful because it is non intrusive and it gives people a choice to
change their life. It is also used in lots of situations, this shows it is used often. However, it
ignores people s behaviour and is short term so this can affect the care given as the carer won t
keep an eye on the behaviour which is very important to observe when providing care. The
behavioural approach only involves looking at behaviour which is being observed. It is easy to
understand and is a natural approach so you can t really tell how someone actually feels because
they might do something else. It also doesn t rely on communication a skill which makes it easier
for the health carer and patient if they are not able to communicate well. However, this approach
doesn t involve looking at what is occurring inside someone s head which makes it a little
restricted. It can also only be used to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

White s propaganda had kernels of truth which allowed the story to spread easier including field

propaganda was so successful in terrifying German soldiers that it helped convince leaders to

MISO is an example of Grey propaganda where the source may or may not be correctly

by the British falsely propagated their ability to set fire to the Channel, using the stories that

An English student from Calvin College writes that, Several themes that are only Catholic also
can be incurred throughout his works. For example, Shakespeare, at times, used the word holy in
the sacramental sense that Catholics used it. Characters in his plays showed devotion to various
saints. They also blessed themselves with the sign of the cross. Shakespeare incorporated
references to Purgatory into some of his plots... [His] upbringing certainly came into play in his
familiarity of these subject. (Brydon). It is true that Shakespeare did have all of those references
and signs of Catholicism in his plays, it should also be remembered that what a playwright instills
in his characters does not necessarily reflect what he himself believes.
In any case, because the values and beliefs of the Protestant and Catholic religions were not
extremely different, it would have been easy for Shakespeare to cater to both without showing any
specific preference towards one or the other. Theologically speaking, they do have different
doctrines and leaders, but in the context of Shakespeare s plays, both religions have a God, Bible,
and other foundational values. His play, Measure for Measure, is based on the themes of morals and
justice. He sets his characters into contemplating some tough ethical issues, which could be applied
to both Protestantism and Catholicism.

Christian Worldview Essay
At any given point in time, and with any given human being, an individual s opinion and
behavior expose their worldview by demonstrating their perception of what they believe to be
true. The worldview of every person has a comprehensive perspective of reality in every aspect of
life. It is important to note that a person s worldview might not actually possess the truth, but it is
their truth, and that is what makes it their worldview. Consequently, one s personal understanding

Furthermore, the essence of an established worldview is shaped by external influences such as one

Occupational Therapy and Clinical Reasoning
Clinical Reasoning Clinical Reasoning is an essential part of the assessment, treatment and

the occupational therapist draws from when working with clients in related to function and

interacting components (Ward, 2003). This will be explained in the following essay and

to be used will be the narrative reasoning. This will address Maria s occupational story. It
considers temporal aspects such as the client s history and identifies what needs to change to

The company incorporated in June 1971 and officially began operations on April 17, 1973, with the
launch of 14 small aircraft from Memphis International Airport. It soon became the premier carrier
of high priority goods in the marketplace and the standard setter for the industry it established.
With the air cargo deregulations in 1977, the company was able to use larger aircrafts like
Boeing 727s to further improve their operational efficiency and performance, leading to rapid
growth of the company. By 1980, it had established its position in the industry and had a growth
rate of 40% and became the first company to reach the USD 1 billion revenue mark within 10
years of inception. Following international acquisitions in 1984, Federal Express started its
operations in Europe amp; Asia. In 1994, Federal Express official adopted FedEx as its primary
brand and became a symbol of overnight parcel delivery services.
As the acquisitions grew and FedEx diversified its operations, FedEx Corporation was formed in
January 1998, after the acquisition of Caliber system Inc. The subsidiary companies of the

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Treadmills
People around the world are looking for the best treadmill brands that can be used for home.
Treadmills are devices or work out machines that make the user walk while staying at the same
place. Users can also run on these machines as fast as they want to. Treadmills are great machines
that can improve one s stamina and speed. Some people also use these machines to train animals
such as dogs and horses. The treadmillwas introduced even before the experts developed the
power machine. The idea of the power machine came from manpower operated mills that used
people and animals to make it run. These mills were operated by animals such as horse, donkeys,
and cow that grinded the grain to make flour out of it.
Now, people are using treadmills as workout machines or exercise machines that would keep them
in shape or increase their power. A treadmill has a platform that is covered with belt that spins
around when the user runs or walks on top of the machine. There are also treadmills ... Show more

Compare And Contrast The American Empire And Ottoman Empire
Throughout history there has been times when empire building and expansion were very popular.
During the Early Modern Era, from 1450 1750, this occurred a lot. The European, Russian,
Chinese, Mughal and, Ottoman empires were all being built around the same time. An empire is a
group of states or countries under one supreme ruler. When the empireis divided by an ocean or has
part of it distant from the other, the part away from the mainland is known as a colony and the
homeland is the Mother Country. This took place many times during this time period when the
Americas were first discovered by people native to the Eastern Hemisphere. Between 1450 and 1750
AD, the European, and the Russian, Chinese, Mughal and Ottoman empires were similar... Show

The European empires colonized the Americas, so they had to cross the Atlantic ocean to get there.
This gave them more goods to trade with because the Americas had different natural resources than
Europe and Asia. The empires without colonies had faster trade because there wasn t that great
distance but the new things they needed they got from the empires with colonies in the Americas.
The empires with the colonies in America had the advantage. The European Empires were also
different from the Russian, Chinese, Mughal, and Ottoman Empires in that Europe hurt the
unintentionally natives of the land they took over while the other empires did not. Since Europe
was building empires in another continent, many things would be different. A major difference was
the immune systems of the people. The europeans had immunities to certain diseases such as
bubonic plague, pneumonic plague,, influenza, measles, scarlet fever, smallpox, and tuberculosis,
because they had been exposed to them before. Since the Native Americans were never exposed to
them, they never built immunities. When the Europeans came to the Americans they carried the
diseases without knowing. Making majority of the population sick. Tribe after tribe they died
because they could not fight these diseases. This clearly made more room for the Europeans but
in a tragic way. Similarly, the European Empires were different from the Russian, Chinese,
Mughal, and Ottoman Empires in their reasonings for expansion. Europe expanded across the
Atlantic Ocean because they were geographically at an advantage. They had access to this new
land the for the other places to get to it would either take too long or they would physically have to
go through the European s land to get there. They had this advantage and took it

Bodies At Rest
Bodies in Motion and at Rest So I m over at the Hortons with my stretcher and minivan and my
able apprentice, young Matt Sheffler, because they found old George, the cemetery sexton, dead
in bed this Thursday morning in ordinary time. And the police have been in to rule out foul play
and the EMS team to run a tape so some ER doctor wired to the world can declare him dead at a
safe distance. And now it s ours to do Matt s and mine to ease George from the bed to the
stretcher, negotiate the sharp turn at the top of the stairs, and go out the front door to the dead
wagon idling in the driveway and back to the funeral home from whence he ll take his leave
waked and well remembered a Saturday service in the middle of April, his death observed,... Show

Or Bottom line. Or It s par for the course. Or It s Biblical. If none of these wisdoms seemed to
suit, then Not my day to watch it is what he d say. Pressed on the vast adverbials that come to
mind whilst opening or closing graves, George could be counted for tidy answers. Self schooled
in the Ways of the World, he confined his reading to the King James Bible, The Wall Street
Journal, Golf Digest, the Victoria s Secret catalog and the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous.
He watched C SPAN, The Home Shopping Network and The Weather Channel. Most afternoons
he d doze off watching Oprah, with whom he was, quite helplessly, in love. On quiet days he d
surf the Web or check his portfolio on line. On Sundays he watched talking heads and went to
dinner and the movies with his woman friend. Weekday mornings he had coffee with the guys at
the Summit CafГ© before making the rounds of the half dozen cemeteries he was in charge of.
Wednesdays and Saturdays he d mostly golf. Do the math I heard him give out with once from
the cab of his backhoe for no apparent reason. He was backfilling a grave in Milford Memorial.

Identity In Courtroom
Much research has investigated the role of gender (Ehrlich 2006, Feinstein 2001, Montague 2013,
Walters 1994) and gendered language (Chapman 1993, Hublar 2015) in courtrooms, focusing
particularly on witnesses and jurors or written law. Attention has also been paid to the language of
women lawyers and the gendered constructions of their professional identities (Bahm 1993, Bogoch
1999, Cech 2015), especially since the number of women in this profession has increased
considerably in recent times. The assumption in these studies, as is in the present, is that social
identity is not fixed but rather created and constructed, or performed as Butler and others would say,
in the process of communication.
The courtroom, in fact, has been identified as an important place in which power relations and
social identity are constructed, realized and negotiated (Bahm, 1993, Ehrlich 2006, Maley 1994)
and where suspicions and findings of gender inequalities have surfaced repeatedly (Mey, 1985).
Even in the highly regulated form of the courtroom discourse, the shaping of social identity is often
realized through language. Since specific institutional contexts of the discourse tend to legitimate
and prefer certain types of talk over others (Gal, 1995), and in the case of courtrooms ... Show more

Modeling on Bogoch s (1999) methodology, this study will look at transcript of trials with a focus
on terms of address, intrusions, and comments directed from the court to the lawyer who is
currently holding the speaking turn, but will also focus on the language of the lawyers as they
interact with the witnesses and will allow for new categories to emerge from the analysis

  • 2. Example Of Nonviolent Resistance Nonviolence resistance has been used to achieve many goals in the past, whether it is a political goal, a social goal, or an economic goal. According to Clausewitz, war is the continuation of politics by other means, and the reason why nonviolence resistance can be considered a type of warfare is because the goal is to get what they desired. A well known example of this was the Civil Right s Movement, whose goal was to end segregation and discrimination against African Americans. This movement encompassed three broad categories created by Gene Sharp: nonviolent protests and persuasion, noncooperation (economic and political), and nonviolent intervention. A few groups that were involved in this movement and that displayed these categories were the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). Despite being nonviolent called nonviolent, though, there are some occasions where violence is present. However, because it is called a nonviolent resistanceit can be confusing for others to even consider this as a type of warfare. The NAACP, SCLC, and the SNCC all displayed nonviolent protests and persuasion. The NAACP however was more focused on legal strategies and actions, such as going through court cases and creating lawsuits to confront the civil rights issues that African Americans were faced with during that time. They used legal action instead ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Participaative Leadership And Authoritarian Government A leader, at least according to a Google search, is a person who commands a group, organization, or country. This however is not true as leadership almost transcends just giving orders. Leadership requires knowledge and charisma to properly pull it off along with some way of being bonded to your people (either by totalitarian government or by a complete anarchy). Leadershipis something else, though I don t know quite yet. To lead, you ve got your choice of not one but three different leadership styles; Participative, Delegative, and Authoritarian. Participative is where the leader, played by you, asks your subordinates what to do, though you still have the final say over what is done. A good example of a participative leadership is a democracy; as the president asks the people and congressmen what should be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Delegative is where your still top dog but you have other employees look over certain sections in your place. A great example of this is with the Roman Empire, as they had local leaders serve in place of the overall emperor but had to answer to the emperor themselves. Authoritarian is the easiest to do and explain (at least on paper), simply put, all the power is yours and you don t have to ask anyone or share it. The best real world example would be a dictatorship (like Stalin, Hitler, Mussolini, and Kim Jong Un s family) as the leader there has absolute power without any question or feedback. What I m going to attempt here to retell the story of a man who lead a broken nation back to power, a man immortalized as the face of evil and hate, who is always forgotten for what he did to get where he was and only remembered for what he did when he was there. That man was Adolf Hitler. Now I m not saying he s a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Descriptive and Symbolic Conceptions in Social Studies 1)Symbolic forms are of vital importance in the social studies not only as an object and/or occurrence, whether naturally occurring or not, but it is also of significance in the socio contextual situation in which it is received. These symbolic forms can appear as actions and expressions, conversations, a variety of artifacts artifact being defined as an object made by a human being, typically holds cultural or historical significance and texts. (Thompson, 1990, pg. 122) (http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/english/artefact) Everyone makes use of these symbolic forms on a daily basis to express themselves and their emotions in any variety of ways, while conforming to commonly accepted means of expression within that individuals society. By interpreting the reaction they evoke, they develop an understanding of the connotations associated with the symbols. Once they have learned the social context of the symbols they further their knowledge of each social background and its construct. For example the symbol of a crucifix and of a red rose are both simple items, with individual associations under different contextual situations which determine what relevance that item holds. The crucifix is an artifact holding religious significance, whereas a red rose is a naturally occurring object which has been assigned its association with love within specific societies. The associations attached to symbols is entirely dependent on its socio cultural context in which it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Marc Lepine – Psychology Perspective MARC LEPINE PSYCHOLOGY PERSPECTIVE ABSTRACT Marc Lepine, a 25 year old boy entered the corridors of Montreal s Г‰cole Polytechnique University and started separating boys and girls. He then opened fire and killed 14 girls (The Montreal Massacre Gunman massacres 14 women, 1989). Looking into Marc s case deeply and studying his childhood reveals that his actions can be significantly explained using psychological theories such as Miller and Dollard s Four Stage theory, the idea of lacking empathy and Bowlby s and Ainsworth s attachment theory. This paper not only depicts the effect of the psychological deviant behaviours but also its connection to above mentioned theories. Steps have been taken to take this ... He was so carried away by his hatred that he addressed all the engineering students as feminists women who are going to be engineers are a bunch of feminists (Eglin and Hester, 2003) and killed them. In Marc s life, just as in any criminal s life, the absence of empathy played a major role in making him a criminal and committing a crime. DOLLARD AND MILLER STAGES Dollard and Miller talk about four essential stages in ones childhood. All the four stages are important for the proper development. If any of the stages is missing, it can have negative results throughout the life. The four stages are feeding, cleanliness, early sex training and anger / anxiety management. No evidence of a faulty training on the first three issues is present in Marc s Life. However, fault at the fourth stage, anger/anxiety management, was present and played a major role in leading him to commit the crime. With the lack of the fourth stage development, an individual is not able to control his anger. If not worked on this, over time this becomes very dangerous and can lead to destructing results. The atmosphere he grew up seldom showed any anger / aggression management. His father used to physically abuse him and his mother for very little mistakes. • 6. White Collar vs Blue Collar Imagine there is a society, and in this society there are only two households, one of them is a white collar family, the other is a blue collar or working class family. To keep it simple, white collar workers are highly skilled and usually work in an office setting, while blue collar workers perform more labor based jobs and get their hands dirty. Now you may ask, what do these two groups have to do with each other? Well, their differences are what bring them together, and neither group would be able to operate without the other. Personally, I grew up and still live in a white collar familyand this alone has shaped my household environment. I would also imagine growing up in the other class would have an impact on your household environment as well. Although these two households are quite different from each other, they still impact one another and society today wouldn t be the same without either of them. If someone were to talk about a home , there could be a number of things that could come to mind. When I personally think of home I think of a place of peace and acceptance that you share with the ones you love. No matter what your definition of home is, everyone grows up in a different home environment. I first lived in Farmington, Minnesota but eventually moved to Prescott, Wisconsin in fourth grade. One of the things that I think has effected my very own home environment is the fact that my dad has a white collar job. My dad is a certified public accountant and ... • 7. The Product Being Used For An Organic Compound Introduction When it comes to creating or performing a reaction, the solubility of the product being used is very important. Knowing the biological and physical processes of your product is the start of any experiment. Obtaining this information plays a key role in choosing solvents for processes such a recrystallization. Recrystallization is a procedure for purifying an impure compound in a solvent. It is used only to purify solids in large or small quantities. That is the purpose of this experiment. The product being used for this experiment is acetanilide (C6H5NH). The goal is to purify and recrystallize the organic compound in the appropriate solvent. Acetanilide was first introduced to the world in 1886 as a pharmaceutical fever reducing drug. When proven to be ineffective, it was chosen as an alternative pain reliever since it is converted to acetaminophen when inside the body. In the first part of this experiment we will learn to crystalize an organic compound then later on recrystallize it with the use of an appropriate solvent. The molecules of this compound are able to return to its previous solid form due to the solvents inability to hold on to its molecules and they start to move freely out in the solution and begin to form solid crystals. The reaction of the product being studied is shown below. The product of this reaction can be analyzed using NMR and IR spectrums. Experimental Acetanilide was synthesized from a starting material of aniline (2mL) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Its major aim is to compensate the claimant. It is a breach of a duty that defendant owes to the plaintiff, resulting in damage to the claimant. It is not related to a particular act but with a way of acting and is thus harder to define. The basic elements of the tort of negligence are a legal duty on part of the defendant towards the claimant to exercise care as falls within the scope of a duty, breach of that duty, and consequential foreseeable damage to the claimant that can be attributed to the defendant s conduct. Till the nineteenth century, liability in negligence exists only in recognized cases,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the case of Home Office v Dorset Yacht Co (1970) Lord Reid appreciated the neighborhood test and suggested in his Dicta to take it a step forward. This view was subsequently endorsed in Anns v Merton London Borough Council (1978) where Lord Wilberforce proposed a two stage approach. The large expansions in the areas of tort took place after the formulation of this test. This criterion altered the way in which the neighborhood test was used. Previously the courts had to used it to justify new areas of liability if there were policy reasons for excluding it. In other words, policy was now to operate as a long stop. The general principle established in Anns came under heavy criticism both from the judiciary and the academics. The first major criticism can be fund in the case of Governors of the Peabody Donation Fund v Sir Lindsay Parkinson and Co Ltd. Lord Keith noted that there was a tendency to treat the test in Anns as if it was of definitive character. A more fundamental assault was launched on the test in the case of Yuen Kun Yeu v Attorney General of Hong Kong (1988), in which it was held, that for the future it should be recognized that the two staged test was not to be regarded as in all circumstances a suitable guide to the existence of a duty of care. Monster Clytemnestra In Aeschylus Oresteia The Monster Clytemnestra in Aeschylus Oresteia In the three part play Oresteia, Clytemnestra is a character that manipulates, lies, cheats, and murders. From the very first moment we hear of her existence, we know she is unlike the women of her time. Oh she s a woman all right, a woman with a man s heart. (11) the watchman in the first scene of Agamemnon tells the audience. This tells us that she does not act in a way that the watchman associates with the women around him. Already, in the first few lines of the first installment of the play, we know that Clytemnestra is different. Throughout the play, Clytemnestra tries as hard as she can to keep herself on top, stopping at nothing to get what she wants. She wants to rule the city and she wants to have power over the people in her life. She is power hungry, manipulative, and determined. This determination is not a good thing for the people around Clytemnestra. Because of her need for power, she ends up turning on almost everyone she is supposed to love. This is what leads to her eventual death. Clytemnestra is a dynamic character, who does everything she can to be on top killing, lying, cheating, and murdering are just a few of these things. As the global population grows, the environment keeps changing, and over usage of water sources continues, freshwater sources are only going to deplete even further. According to Glenton, the american population increases by over 180,000 residents annually. Furthermore, Glenton adds that In 2000, Americans used a staggering 408 billion gallons of water each day. Utilizing the given statistics, it s safe to assume that the number of gallons being used by american daily have increased tremendously. Yet, these numbers are dramatically different if compared with less developed countries. In an article written by Mark Fischetti, an author for The Scientific American, Fischetti demonstrates that The U.S had the highest per capita water footprint, at 2,842 cubic meters per year. However, India s footprint is only 1,089 cubic meters a year. Comparing the population of the U.S (322 million) to the population of India (1.252 billion), it s clear that a more developed nation takes advantage of it s water resources. As a result of more privileged nations taking their water resources for granted, it has become apparent that less privileged nations experience the most backlash. Being gay, as said in the beginning, is still not very accepted and Jack having all of this plus dealing with the stress of Harvey s campaigning and advocacy for Gay Rights just put him over the edge. It really had an effect on Jack s identity. He probably did not even know who he was anymore. People identified him as gay and someone with mental health problems and these opinions are what really pushed him to the edge. He later committed suicide because he could not take on the stress of all that anymore. Another example from the movie would be Harvey Milk himself. Did being an advocate and fighting for his rights affect him as a person? Definitely. He had a great relationship with another man before Jack and before all this campaigning started. Abortion Is Not Strictly the Woman s Private Matter Essay Abortion Is Not Strictly the Woman s Private Matter When it is said that abortion is just a woman s issue, we forget that there are two people involved in creating a child. Fathers are continually overlooked and disregarded in situations involving abortion. Many would say that a father is not affected by the woman s choice to have an abortion. Legally, fathers are responsible for providing prenatal support for their preborn child, but have no legal rights if the mother decides to terminate the life of that child. Many fathers have gone to court to try to stop mothers from going through with their abortions. However, according to the courts, when it comes to abortion, a mother s right to abortion overrides a father s objections. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this report I will prove that there was a volcano on the island and I will do so by stating how the plants, climate, location and animals prove that there was a volcano. Plants There are very few native plants on the island. The only plants that are on the island are breadfruit trees, pandanus trees, pawpaw trees, coconut trees, babai(a type of taro root), mosses and mangrove trees. There are also yams lemons, and sugarcane as non tree plants. The lack of concern for visible, short term issues spells doubt on China s ability to handle longer term climate issues like rising sea levels. In Allan Bennett s, The History Boys, controversial teachers hector and Irwin are made out as one hero and the other a villain. The ability to be able to distinguish these complex characters as a hero, a person who is admired for their admirable nature; or a villain, who s immoral and erroneous actions characterise them distinctly; is irrelevant as they both harbour characteristics seen as desirable and distasteful. Both Hector and Irwin display qualities characteristic of being both a hero and villain, therefore neither being solely one or the other. Hector and Irwin are neither solely a hero or villain as they both commit actions that are typical of being a tragic Hero (Hector) and an Anti hero (Irwin). Hector can be seen as the Hero in this play as his want for his students to be enriched by education portrays him as a cool and revered mentor. To become this figure that appeals to the audience, hector s teaching style is portrayed as irrelevant, interesting and energetic. Irrelevance is affirmed by his use of French in the comedic prostitute scene (p12 19). The use of the French language in the dialogue is used to convey how connected the boys and Hector are. And that creates moral hazard for policymakers, because it lowers the barriers of entry into conflict (Gilsinan). When Private military contractors are used they break any established laws to complete their mission. • 28. Analysis Of Rappaccini s Daughter Lauren Thomas Professor Saunders ENGL 231 October 23rd, 2014 The Theme of Love in Rappaccini s Daughter Nathaniel Hawthorne s short story Rappaccini s Daughter holds the theme of love at its forefront. The story delineates the struggles, both internal and external, that Giovanni Guasconti faces when courting a young woman named Beatrice Rappaccini. Beatrice s love of a plant and her father s love of science are conflicts that also highlight the theme of love. Along with these conflicts, Hawthorne uses the theme of love to pose the question of whether or not love is worth fighting for as well as critiquing a tragic flaw in romantic relationships. These elements combine together to make a compelling argument that love is simply not worth the struggle it imposes. The first conflict that arises in the short story is the internal conflict of Giovanni. Giovanni moves from his home in order to study at the University of Padua and sees Beatrice Rappaccini underneath the window of his new home. The conflict Giovanni faces stems from his affection and blooming love for Beatrice. Giovanni sees Beatrice s beauty as brilliant, so vivid in its character, that she glowed amid the sunlight (pg. 7). However, her beauty is rivaled by her horror. Whenever a creature is near her breath, it dies. Giovanni begins questioning whether or not loving Beatrice is a wise decision. • 39. Occupational Therapy and Clinical Reasoning Clinical Reasoning Clinical Reasoning is an essential part of the assessment, treatment and evaluation process in occupational therapy (Neistadt, 1996). This reasoning is the skill set that the occupational therapist draws from when working with clients in related to function and performance. Neistadt (1996) suggested that clinical reasoning is the combination of five interacting components (Ward, 2003). This will be explained in the following essay and applied to a case study about a girl named Maria. Narrative Reasoning The first form of reasoning to be used will be the narrative reasoning. This will address Maria s occupational story. It considers temporal aspects such as the client s history and identifies what needs to change to accommodate occupational engagement in the future (Neistadt, 1996). Maria is fifteen years old. Her mother reports that Maria has been performing poorly in school and has withdrawn from her family. This began after her transition to secondary school. Her performance further deteriorated when she began second year. Maria stopped participating in a number of her occupations including hockey, playing the piano, the girl guides, shopping with friends and going to the cinema. She now prefers to stay on the computer of listening to music. Maria previously had a good relationship with her younger siblings. However, she has disengaged from these relationships. • 42. Compare And Contrast The American Empire And Ottoman Empire Throughout history there has been times when empire building and expansion were very popular. During the Early Modern Era, from 1450 1750, this occurred a lot. The European, Russian, Chinese, Mughal and, Ottoman empires were all being built around the same time. An empire is a group of states or countries under one supreme ruler. When the empireis divided by an ocean or has part of it distant from the other, the part away from the mainland is known as a colony and the homeland is the Mother Country. This took place many times during this time period when the Americas were first discovered by people native to the Eastern Hemisphere. Between 1450 and 1750 AD, the European, and the Russian, Chinese, Mughal and Ottoman empires were similar... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The European empires colonized the Americas, so they had to cross the Atlantic ocean to get there. This gave them more goods to trade with because the Americas had different natural resources than Europe and Asia. The empires without colonies had faster trade because there wasn t that great distance but the new things they needed they got from the empires with colonies in the Americas. The empires with the colonies in America had the advantage. The European Empires were also different from the Russian, Chinese, Mughal, and Ottoman Empires in that Europe hurt the unintentionally natives of the land they took over while the other empires did not. Since Europe was building empires in another continent, many things would be different. A major difference was the immune systems of the people. The europeans had immunities to certain diseases such as bubonic plague, pneumonic plague,, influenza, measles, scarlet fever, smallpox, and tuberculosis, because they had been exposed to them before. Since the Native Americans were never exposed to them, they never built immunities. When the Europeans came to the Americans they carried the diseases without knowing. Making majority of the population sick. Tribe after tribe they died because they could not fight these diseases. This clearly made more room for the Europeans but in a tragic way. Similarly, the European Empires were different from the Russian, Chinese, Mughal, and Ottoman Empires in their reasonings for expansion. Europe expanded across the Atlantic Ocean because they were geographically at an advantage. They had access to this new land the for the other places to get to it would either take too long or they would physically have to go through the European s land to get there. They had this advantage and took it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

And the police have been in to rule out foul play and the EMS team to run a tape so some ER doctor wired to the world can declare him dead at a safe distance. And now it s ours to do Matt s and mine to ease George from the bed to the stretcher, negotiate the sharp turn at the top of the stairs, and go out the front door to the dead wagon idling in the driveway and back to the funeral home from whence he ll take his leave waked and well remembered a Saturday service in the middle of April, his death observed,... • 44. Identity In Courtroom Much research has investigated the role of gender (Ehrlich 2006, Feinstein 2001, Montague 2013, Walters 1994) and gendered language (Chapman 1993, Hublar 2015) in courtrooms, focusing particularly on witnesses and jurors or written law. Attention has also been paid to the language of women lawyers and the gendered constructions of their professional identities (Bahm 1993, Bogoch 1999, Cech 2015), especially since the number of women in this profession has increased considerably in recent times. The assumption in these studies, as is in the present, is that social identity is not fixed but rather created and constructed, or performed as Butler and others would say, in the process of communication. The courtroom, in fact, has been identified as an important place in which power relations and social identity are constructed, realized and negotiated (Bahm, 1993, Ehrlich 2006, Maley 1994) and where suspicions and findings of gender inequalities have surfaced repeatedly (Mey, 1985). Even in the highly regulated form of the courtroom discourse, the shaping of social identity is often realized through language. Since specific institutional contexts of the discourse tend to legitimate and prefer certain types of talk over others (Gal, 1995), and in the case of courtrooms ...
