The Pros And Cons Of Ferrets
My ferrets dook, do the war dance, and skitter between my feet, and make my husband, kids, and I
smile. For my family, ferrets are excellent pets. My husband thinks they re better than dogs, and the
whole lot of us prefer ferrets to cats. Ferrets are very different from cats and dogs, however.Their
behavior, smell, motivations, and shape are all different from cats and dogs. They are classified as
exotic pets, and it is important that you consider the pros and cons of ferret parenthood before
adopting one of these wonderful weasels.
The differences between ferrets and other pets create the pros and cons of having a pet ferret
Intelligence: I hesitate to say that cats and dogs are smarter than ferrets, but I readily acknowledge that
ferrets have a significantly different kind of intelligence. Ferrets are pretty good problem solvers. As
an example, for Christmas one year, I put an apple in a stocking for my ferret. (The ferret liked to steal
apples and hide them. He didn t actually eat them.) The apple was just a tad smaller in diameter as the
stocking. Ernie put his head in the stocking, grabbed the apple, and pulled. It didn t work. After only
two tries he crawled out of the stocking and got on top of it. He pushed the apple out. ... Show more

Ferrets are intensely curious. They must know what is behind closed doors. They must know what is
behind a barrier. They need to study the backside of a dishwasher and the inside of a sofa. If a ferret
somehow manages to get in your pots and pans cabinet, don t be surprised to find them later in with
your silverware. This tenacity makes it difficult to ferret proof and make your house safe for your
beloved

Thank You Rotary for this Scholarship
When I was younger and thinking about college I always pictured it as I saw it in the movies, you
sleep all day and have fun all night. Know what I know now I understand the importance of college
and I think of it a little differently than before. I know that I need to work hard and study hard to be
able to succeed at my fullest potential in college. I have had a few experiences in my life that have
helped me realize that I need to work hard to get the output which I was hoping for in the beginning. I
ve seen my sister diagnosed with diabetes her first week of high school, I ve witnessed my dad
struggling through cancer and conquering it, and I have made it through 6 month of grueling and time
consuming physical therapy to make it so I could use my shoulder again. Through these experiences
my perspective about hard work and perseverance has changed dramatically, and for that I am
thankful. My dad was diagnosed with cancer about 5 years ago. I was in middle school so I knew
enough to understand that it was a very serious and scary thing which not all people can defeat. I had a
very frightening realization that he could die and I might only have a limited time left with him. When
he started to receive the chemotherapy treatments I knew that I had to step up and help out. This
taught me that I had to get things done and I couldn t procrastinate. He ended up defeating the cancer
and coming home soon after, I ll always remember how this experience taught me to stay strong and

Correlation Between Music and IQ in Children Essay
1. Introduction
This project investigates the effect which the playing of a musical instrument namely the drums has on
one s intelligence and academic ability. A search of the literature reveals that studies of this kind have
been conducted by other researchers in many parts of the world and has led to the conclusion that
music is an extremely healthy activity to be involved in.
A study conducted on school children in America concluded that children who took voice or piano
lessons had higher IQ s at the end of the year than those who did not (Munsey, 2006). Dye (2012)
reinforces this, stating that scientific research shows that studying music improves school
performance. Gaser and Schlaug (2003) showed that musicians learn advanced ... Show more content

The aim of this study is to ascertain whether learning to play the drums increases one s IQ score or
not. Will learners who take daily drum lessons for two weeks improve their intelligence by improving
their memories and having their brains stimulated?
2. Review of Literature
A number of studies showing the relationship between the playing of musical instruments and IQ
development are discussed below. A few studies on the effect of drum lessons on brain development
are also considered.
2.1 Correlation between Music and IQ in children
In Canada, Schellenberg conducted a study on school children and college students and concluded that
those who took voice or piano lessons had higher IQ s at the end of the year than those who did not
(Munsey, 2006). Schellenberg also studied whether the effect of an increase in IQ would continue to
improve with more than a year s lessons and his most recent work has proven that this is in fact the
case. The study found that young adults who had taken music lessons in childhood did have higher IQ
s and better high school grades than people who didn t. He concluded that college students who had
played a musical instrument regularly as children were two points ahead in IQ compared to their

Why Sports Have Been Such A Good Analysis
Another reason why sports have been such a good part of my life is because I fill my time playing
rather than getting in trouble. Throughout school one of my biggest motivations to not goof off in
class and to behave my best in school is sports. As a student athlete, I know if I get in trouble at school
then I could get in trouble with my coach and not be able to play in the next game. By getting in
trouble, I m taking myself out of the game and letting down my teammates. Nowadays most kids I
know who are not involved in a sport are most likely not motivated to succeed in anything or even
care about anything in life. They spend their time drinking, doing drugs and partying or breaking the
law. They have no guidance or a positive way to fill

Vocational Trade Schools
There is beginning to be a shortage of workers in certain work forces, such as teachers, healthcare
workers, accountants, and many other important jobs (Perry). These jobs require a postsecondary
degree; it is vital for there to always be an abundant of workers in worker forces like these because
they are so important to our society. To many students, sitting down in class and having to study is not
an ideal way to get further their education after high school. Vocational and trade schools offer
students a hands on learning experience. Vocational and trade schools will offer students a certification
or degree in a wide range of work fields, such as machinery, carpenters, electricians, and many more.

The Baroque School Of French Organ
Introduction: Rarely in the documented history of music can we found a collection of compositions
more perfectly tied to an instrument, than that of the Baroque school of French organ composition.
Looking at the earliest examples of music from this period (which stem from even earlier vocal
polyphony), one will find forms and techniques indubitably connected to the organ. By the start of the
sixteenth century, the establishment of colloquial categories of organ composition, and independent
vocal forms, were finally acknowledged. For the following two centuries the technical progression of
the organ in conjunction with musical development, resulted in every stop on Baroque French organs
being given a standardised function. This function was almost always outlined at the beginning of a
score by the composer. Since medieval times French organ building has been well documented and
recorded. Later on, Marin Mersenne compiled a book that outlined music happenings in Paris,
Harmonie Universelle (1636), this book included French organ specifications and designs. Even from
the middle ages, French organs placed an emphasis on tone color. Early French organs had an array of
principals, mixtures and mutations, allowing for the creation of registrations such as Plein Jeu.
However, organs of this time (late 1500s) were restricted a lot by the available wind power (how fast
the boys in the basement could move the bellows!). Fortunately, as we come into the 1600s vast
strides were made in

The Birth Of Event Study Method
The birth of Event study method is frequently traced back to 1969, the first time Fama, Fisher, Jensen
and Roll (1969, hereafter FFJR) introduced how event study method examines the impact of stock
split on share price. Nowadays, the methods of payment on Mergers and Acquisitions can be analyzed
by event study. Asquith(1983) argue that the previous studies, Dodd(1980) and Langetieg (1978), did
not examine the possible changes in value and the market s complete reaction during the merger
process, and did not resolved the question whether the target firm s stockholders gain averagely from
merger. He point out that Langetieg (1978) just focus on the merger date as the event date, thus ignore

excess return increases at the announcement date but decrease after that and keep decreasing until the

the National University of Timor Leste (UNTL) A brief statement of the issue (350) Timor Leste is
known as post colonial country, colonized for 450 years by Portugal and 24 years by Indonesia. Due to
the human rights violations, massive torture and assassination the so called Santa Cruz Massacre
towards young Timorese people on November 12, 1991 by Indonesian military, Indonesia was got
pressured by the United Nations and International community to give the rights of Timor Leste to
determine whether or not they want to be a part of Indonesia. In early 1999, the President of
Indonesia, B. J. Habibie, announced to conduct referendum with two options the so called
independence and special autonomy zone. On 30 August 1999, the referendum was conducted under
the supervision of the United Nations. As a result, the majority of people of Timor Leste voted to a self
determination with 78% percent. After the announcement of the result, contra independence people of
Timor Leste (militias) together and Indonesian military, who are assigned in Timor Leste, ruined the
country by devastating and demolishing all important infrastructures across the territory including the
university in Timor Leste (UNTIM). In 2000, Timor Leste was under the United Nations transitional

Reflection Of Music In This Little Light Of Mine
Music is defined as the vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) combined in such a way as to produce
beauty of form, harmony, and expression of music. What truly exemplifies this definition is the
performance entitled This Little Light of Mine in which performers, Donald Craig Manuel and
Charles Lloyd Jr, took the stage to deliver a beautiful duo that s consisted of Mr. Manuel s Baritone
voice and Mr. Lloyd s performance on the piano. Mr. Donald Manuel performed twelve compositions
in which ten of them were sacred pieces that expressed how much he loved the Lord and the other four
were taken from major events he performed for such as: Festival of the Lion King at Hong Kong
Disneyland, major productions abroad the Disney Dream, and musical numbers from popular Disney
films. Even though each of these pieces were different in context they had numerous similarities such
as: all of them being polyphonic, crescendo and decrescendo were used extensively, dynamics were
used frequently, each piece was set to a walking tempo (Andante), each piece had the qualities of an
opera, and he used vibrato in all his compositions. Even though all his performed pieces were
brilliantly performed, the three compositions that stood out to me were: Ride on King Jesus by Hall
Johnson, This Little Light O Mine by John Work, and Be prepared by E. John and T. Rice. The first
piece that was performed, Ride of King Jesus, is a sacred, polyphonic piece that was performed in
Low D flat in quadruple meter.

Methods of Trafficking and Counters Essay
METHODS OF TRAFFICKING AND COUNTERS
Many people choose to try and make fortunes through the illegal trade of drugs. This type of business
gives the highest return of dollars spent, but is one of the hardest products to ship. There are many
techniques that have been used throughout the years in order to try and get the illegal substances into
the United States, which leads to the government s response to counter the illegal transshipments.
Although the War on Drugs appears to be a futile effort, there are many ways to tighten down on the
drug traffickers and successfully put them out of business utilizing government tactics and education.

Many other types of methods are utilized on the ground to transport drugs into the United States
through the borders. Although every road that leads into America s soil has a port of entry and
checkpoints, there are still traffickers that attempt to get pass the security and get the product to the
destination. The majority of these traffickers are female and not all of them are caught. The most
common method used to transport on the ground is in an automobile with the hopes that the border
guard will not inspect the vehicle. The Mexican border has become a conduit for illegal transportation
into the United States from South America (Clawson, 22). The convenience and location are the
reasons that traffickers seeking to get the illegal substance to America utilize this border.
With such a large border it has become impossible to physically man every mile, but one way to keep
a watchful eye on the activities is to employ un manned aerial vehicles (UAVs). UAVs have been
utilized by the Department of Defense for years and have the capability to cover more ground than an
actual on foot boarder patrol. These machines also will not put the actual patrol in danger during
observation missions.

Matthew And Luke
The genealogy of Jesus in Matthew and Luke are very different which can be confusing to many
people because at first glance, it does not look like any of the names are the same. When I look at the
names, I cannot find any of them that are alike because they are not in the same order and they do not
end on the same person. In Matthew, he lists names of women while Luke does not list a single
women s name. There are, however, several different reasons from people like scholars on why this
could be possible. For example, some scholars think that one book is about Josephs ancestry and the
other about Mary s ancestry. This could be true, but there are many other arguments for this subject.
The first major view that explains this problem is found ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All the solutions were already mentioned somewhere in the two other books. It gives the view that
Matthew gives the royal line and Luke gives the natural line, but it does not give the opposite view of
that. It also says Matthew could have possibly been the line of Joseph and Luke the line of Mary. All
the commentaries of why Matthew and Luke have different genealogies of Jesus have many
differences, but a lot of similarities as well. It seems like these commentaries will give a solution, but
there will be someone else that thinks it is reversed. What I got out of the solution was that Matthew
and Luke were either both Josephs line with many differences in them or one was Mary s line and the
other Joseph s. This is a question that makes me wonder why the author of the books would not just
say what kind of genealogy it was. Did they not think that people later on would be very confused?
The solution I would choose to be the correct solution would probably have to be that Luke was the
royal line and Matthew the natural line. This is because Luke does not name any names of women and
Matthew does. I would not think that if giving the royal line, they would name any names of women
because they could not be the head of anything back then. That is the only reason I would choose that
one, but I know that there are probably so many other solutions too that could persuade me to think

America s Poverty Rates In Developing Countries
The expectations for an elegant, extremely comfortable lifestyle have gotten much higher, when the
reality is that 85% of the world s population are living in countries with extremely high poverty rates.
In the dictionary, the word poverty means the state of being extremely poor and when people think of
poverty, they think of struggling african families or malnourished children in continents like Africa.
Contrary to what people think, America is a country where there is a lot of poverty. In 2015, 43.1
million americans were in poverty with the highest number being children under the age of 18.

The Plan Of The Anaconda Plan
The anaconda plan
At the beginning of the war the Union thought it would be an easy, quick war. The Union leaders at
this time had no actual plan for the war. General Scott saw this and came up with the Anaconda plan.
Scott considered the war a strategy game, and would attack and penetrate the enemy s forces without
destroying all of their troops; focusing mainly on victory. At the beginning of the war Scott, unlike
others, thought that the war would be over in more than two years. The war ended in four years. The
term Anaconda plan came from Northern press trying to explain Scotts plan. Many people thought that
Scotts plan was too passive and difficult. The Union s effort in the civil war increased greatly on April
19, 1861. At this point Abraham Lincoln created a naval blockade, a system of ships that stops all
imports and exports, on the Confederate coastline. This blockade stretched from the Rio Grande to the
Chesapeake Bay. At this time Lincoln s argument was that the Confederacy had no right to secede.
Creating this blockade allowed the National warships to attack privateers. Privateers are privately
owned and run warships. These ships were used to take the Union s trade ships. Getting rid of the
privateers meant that the Union could transport goods easier. Scott s anaconda plan needed the Union
s army and navy to surround the Confederacy. After encompassing the Confederacy the army and
navy would tighten in, and effectively strangle the South. This contained two

The Dynamic, Broad And Complex Nature Of Cloud Infrastructure
The dynamic, broad and complex nature of cloud infrastructure makes it difficult to provide resilience
against design issues. In order to make user effectively utilize the existing computational power a new
kind of operating systems are needed. Therefore cloud based operating systems promise vision to meet
user s needs at any time. At the same time designing of cloud based operating systems present many
challenges to the designer. The common issues include heterogeneity, elasticity of demand, scalability
and faults. 2.1 HETEROGENEITY Current operating systems requires same ISA for all the cores. All
the cores in the traditional operating systems execute the same instruction set. But these cores differ in
performance and capability levels. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Inducing heterogeneity into system means using more than one kind of processor. Not only same kind
of processors but different processors can be added to a system to increase the performance. In order
to handle particular tasks heterogeneity incorporates specialized processing capabilities.
Heterogeneous systems use different Instruction Set Architectures (ISA s). The main processor in a
system will have one ISA and the remaining have another. Heterogeneous systems are capable of
using different processor types. They can have CPU s and GPU s embedded on a single integrated
circuit to give best of both. In a heterogeneous system with CPU s and GPU s CPU generally will be
equipped in performing serial tasks and GPU is well known for its graphic capabilities and intensive
computations. GPU s are capable of dealing with large datasets. On the other hand designing
heterogeneous operating systems can impose many challenges one of which may be binary
incompatibility due to different instruction set architectures. Different elements may interpret memory
in different ways. The non uniformity in the system depends on the level of heterogeneity introduced
into the system. Library and other services may not be uniformly available to all the elements present
in the heterogeneous system. Heterogeneous environments support low level implementation of
functions and threads. The architectural differences between the CPU s

grandfather s fortune. We know this from lines 11 and 12 Lavish of your grandsire s guineas,/Show

settle down? In the last paragraph it talks about that regret of spending all your money, being in debt
to people, gambling it all away. If you do that then you won t live long, and will just end up as a tale
mother s tell their children about so they don t follow after you. The second poem, When I was One

should worry about spending money and having a carefree and wonderful time, not finding a girl and
settling down. To Keep your fancy free. (ln6) like not be committed, not worry about the girls. The
second paragraph contradicts the first by reason of the old man who told him not to worry about the
girls in the first paragraph is now telling him to worry about girls. He says that when you sell your
heart to another, ensure it is the one who will not be in vain and be the one that causes you sigh all the
time considering you are in love. That you spend the rest of your days together. As a 22 year old it all
fits together and he understands it now. Both of these poems talks about selling and money and young
men s lives, but they are both unquestionably different.

Protests Against Racism
Imagine that you are a black man or woman; you live in the United States, a very patriotic country;
your people are suffering with violence, oppression, racism, police brutality and so on. What would
you do? Well, Colin Kaepernick, a quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, has made history. At his
team s first preseason game of 2016, something unusual happened: he sat during the playing of the
national anthem, as opposed to the tradition of standing. He did that to protest against the cruel reality
faced by people of color. However, his act was covered up by the media. Actually, his protest was only
noticed during the third game. In the 49ers final preseason game, Colin s protest gained national (and
international) attention. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, they demand respect when the anthem is played (normally, they stand up with their hands on the
heart). So, when people started to kneel during the anthem, some Americans called them unpatriotic.
When I was reflecting about it, I did a research and found this statement written by Joe Posnanski, a
NBC Sports national columnist: If you think about it, playing the national anthem before every single
sporting event is weird we don t play it before plays, before concerts, before the opera or ballet, before
movies, before speeches or before comedy shows. But we play it before every game; we take just a
moment to think of what it means to be American. Yes, you may disagree with what Colin Kaepernick
thinks it means to be an American. But he is making his statement, boldly, unflinchingly, fully ready to
face whatever comes his way. And if you re being honest with yourself, you know the truth: The
statement most of us make during the national anthem is simply this: Come on, let s get on with the
game already! I am not American, I am from Brazil. However, I know that exists in USA, and in every
country, hypocritical people. During the playing of the national anthem, you see all kinds of behavior:
there are people saluting the flag, but there are also people chatting, looking their phones and etc. Do
you doubt? Watch a YouTube video and pay attention to the crowd. All Americans citizens have the
right to free speech. So, they have the right to disagree with Kaepernick, but he also has the right to
protest. And it is exactly what he is doing: Colin is taking a stand for his beliefs, even though it is

a vivid picture of the effects of World War I on London s high society, often in glaring contrast to the
effects of shell shock suffered by war veteran Septimus Smith. For members of high society, the War s
impact is largely indirect, mainly affecting their conversations at posh social functions. Although the
war has had little impact on these people, some strive to develop a deeper understanding of the War s
main consequence: death. For Septimus, who has endured the direct impact of the War as a soldier,
however, the memories ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although a small point, it is necessary to add that even Septimus s wife, Rezia, though not in the same
social circle as Clarissa, sees the impacts of the War as ordinary. When reflecting on Septimus s
tendency to talk to his dead friend, Evans, Rezia thinks, [Evans] had seemed a nice quiet man; a great
friend of Septimus s, and he had been killed in the War. But such things happen to everyone. Everyone
has friends who were killed in the War (64). This statement is to Rezia a mere fact, which highlights
that she, like those in Clarissa s circle, is also blissfully ignorant of the horrors involved in the War,
drawing attention to the insurmountable gulf that exists between Septimus s experience of the War,
and everyone else s imagined perception of it. Indeed, the relaying of information as mentioned above
often serves as entertainment for the upper class throughout the novel, even if the entertainment is
derived from such a serious topic as war related casualties. Even though millions were killed, and
many injured, Clarissa s class typically cannot comprehend the brutality experienced by soldiers in
combat, much less the unrelenting stresses and images that follow them long after they have left the
battlefield. However, high society cannot ignore such cases of human suffering, so they become a sort
of fashionable topic. At Clarissa s party, for example, Lady Bradshaw treats the subject almost
casually,

George Orwell s Use Of Pathos In Politics And The English...
George Orwell uses pathos in Politics and the English Language. He does this to evoke emotion from
the reader. The author s manner of using pathos is well done. Throughout his paper, the author uses
pathos in examples and specific wording. Throughout the paper s entirety, the paper elicits feelings of
inferiority and stupidity. Whether the author intended this or not is unclear. Yet, it is clear that the
manner in which the author speaks uses pathos a lot. At the start of the paper, there are many usages of
pathos. For instance, the author writes about how a man feels like a failure. This phrase is an instance
of pathos. The phrase provides an example of a feeling. Furthermore, the author writes that English
can be an ugly language. Pathos

Hairtyle Definition
Proportion is the comparative relationship of one thing to another. A well chosen hairstyle can create
the illusion of better proportion. It is essential when designing a hairstyle to take into account the
client s body shape and size. Challenges in body proportion become more obvious if the hair form is
too small or too large. A general guide for classic proportion is that the hair should not be wider than
the center of the shoulders, regardless of the body structure.
Proportion is also defined as any portion or part in relation to the whole. No one certain feature or
style produces beauty but rather the relationship or harmony created when all components come
together into a total image. Why does a hairstyle, for example, look great on one ... Show more

Many have a side of the face that appears heavier. Many have one eye that is slightly smaller or one
flare of the nose that is slightly larger. And so, adaptability becomes the first design consideration.
During your client consultation, take the time to make notations of the asymmetry to the face. If we
design the hair towards the low side of the face, we will accentuate it. If we duplicate the head form
with either fullness or the lack thereof, we emphasize it. Feel the bones of the head and take note of
the growth patterns in the outer and inner perimeters. Remember that the outer perimeter creates the
strongest influence to the features. Be very careful about the hair that touches the face. Will it point to
an unflattering feature, such as a pointed nose? If there is a protrusion of the frontal bone, the fringe
area will lift and dry shorter than anticipated. We have found that working with two mirrors is of
tremendous benefit: one for the frontal view and one for the profile. Watch that you do not accentuate
a poor profile with an extension in that area. The mirrors will tell you things that the eye cannot see
directly. In addition, using a haircutting chair gives the best view of the back and sides of the head
because you are looking directly into them. If you are looking down at the hairline, your vision is
altered. (No, it is not for your feet; although that is a

A Proposal to Ban Smoking in Public Areas Essay
A Proposal to Ban Smoking in Public Areas
Every year, there are over 400,000 smoking related deaths in the United States. A large percentage of
these are due to lung cancer, whose leading cause is smoking. However, not all deaths are smokers
themselves. Anyone in the vicinity can fall victim to second hand smoke. These people, through no
action of their own, can have their lives threatened.
This problem, which plagues all Americans, should have action taken on a local scale to help protect
the health of the public. The Ames City Council is in the process of debating a city ordanince which
whould ban smoking in all public places, with the exception of those designated as smokng areas . A
public place shall be defined by Subsection ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Keep in mind, these people don?t smoke themselves, but they are still put at risk by the actions of
others. The Saskatchewan Instite?s webpage goes on to state that half of all children exposed to
second hand smoke are exposed at home. While this is an important fact, its importance lies in
opposite, half are exposed in places other than at home. In America 25,000 people are killed every
year in car accidents, while 53,000 die from second hand smoke (from Office on Smoking and Health,
Center for Disease Control and Prevention, http://www.cdc.gov/tobacco/sgr/sgr_1988/). Action must
be taken to protect these people from a threat over which they have no control.
In addition to statistics, a situation to illustrate the necessity for this proposal can be considered.
Imagine a family, Mom, Dad, and their three children, are going out to eat in a nice restaurant for
Mom?s birthday. When the waitress asks if they?d like smoking or non smoking, they Dad requests
non, because he is concerned about his family?s health. However, the truth about this decision is that
in reality, just being in the restaurant increases the threats to their family.
Those who are opposed to this ban contend that it will hurt economic prosperity of their
bars/taverns/clubs/restaurents, which are the areas that would be most effected by this ordanence.
However, according to a recent study conducted by the Substance Abuse Policy Research Program in
New York, this is not the case. Quite the

Essay about Orson Welles The Magnificent Ambersons
The biggest mistake we have made is to consider that films are primarily a form of entertainment. The
film is the greatest medium since the invention of movable type for exchanging ideas and information,
and it is no more at its best in light entertainment than literature is at its best in the light novel. Orson
Welles
Orson Welles was passionate about film. By the young age of 25, he had directed, produced, and
starred in what is today considered by most to be the greatest movie ever made, Citizen Kane. About a
year later, Welles began work on his next film project, The Magnificent Ambersons. Based on the
novel of the same name by Booth Tarkington, The Magnificent Ambersons tells the story of a falling

Welles wrote the script of The Ambersons in nine days (McBride 53).
The film was to be financed by the production company RKO/ Mercury. A major problem arouse with
the budget before shooting began. Because of the shrinking international film market, RKO had set a
maximum budget in Welles contract of $600,000 for The Magnificent Ambersons (Higham213). Also,
according to the arrangement that RKO had made with its bank, no film from the studio was ever to
exceed $750,000. A pre budget estimate of Ambersons came close to one million dollars. Pared down
to more details in its final form just before shooting, the film looked as if it would still cost in excess
of $850,000. Permission to proceed with production was eventually granted, but with strict rules to
Welles to bring the cost down to under the $750,000 figure (Higham 214).
The Magnificent Ambersons is a Historical Epic Drama based on a time almost 70 years prior to its
making. In order to cast the film, Welles read a delineation of the characters Tarkington had given in a
1917 issue of Metropolitan Magazine (Brady 316).
The silent star Dolores Costello was brought out of retirement to play Isabel Amberson. Welles also
made the surprising choice of selecting contract player Tim Holt for the role of George Minafer. Holt

The Major Causes Of The Nigerian Civil War
Nigeria, a country known around the world as the most hardworking place in Africa, has steadily been
on the rise. Like any other country, Nigeria has faced problems within its history that has contributed
to the challenges the country faces today. One of the the most notable events within its history is the
civil war that occurred from 1967 to 1970. This war was caused by a variety of reasons, but the main
factor that brought on the onset of the war was cultural tensions. The Nigerian Civil War can be
characterized by a clash of cultures vying for control of the country.
To understand the events that led up to war, you have to understand the colonial history of Nigeria that
contributed to its sectional tensions. Nigeria was carved out of the west of Africa by Britain without
regard for preexisting ethnic, cultural and linguistic divisions. The British combined two separate
provinces to form a single colony that forced over two hundred ethnic and groups to become a single
nation. At the advent of Nigerian independence on 1 October 1960, when Great Britain gave up
colonial power over Nigeria, three regions based on ethnic groupings were created to comprise the
independent nation of Nigeria. Following decades of ethnic tension in colonial Nigeria, political
instability reached a critical mass among independent Nigeria s three dominant ethnic groups: the
Hausa Fulani in the north, Yoruba in the southwest, and Igbo in the southeast. Each ethnic group
vowed for control of the country after independence leading to a series of coup and assassination
attempts.
The measures each ethnic group took to control power resulted in one of the worst atrocities that
divided the country: the Igbo genocide. Different ethnic groups took punitive measures against the
Igbo. Further anger over the murder of prominent Hausa politicians led to the massacre of scattered
Igbo populations in northern Hausa Fulani regions. This persecution triggered the move by Igbo
separatists to form their own nation of Biafra the following year.
The consequences of the war included starvation, mass death, and displacement of Igbos. With the
Nigerian blockade cutting off the Biafrans from their expected source of oil revenue, the Biafrans
suffered

Zeus Decides the Case: Apollo told his side of the story first and explained the truth: how Hermes

The Importance Of Religion In Night By Elie Wiesel
Most people around the world are in pursuit of a religion that reflects one s personal interests,
qualities, and beliefs. As a Holocaust victim, Elie Wiesel has a first hand experience with the overall
cruelty that Jews become accustomed to in these times of torture. Within the second World War were
additional wars inside the minds of innocent people, or internal conflicts. God is an entity that is
positioned in the hearts of the enslaved; however, when put in distress, one s faith in God slowly
begins to repress. In Elie Wiesel s memoir, Night, the significance of the loss in faith of God can
likewise be perceived as the loss of identity. Wiesel reveals how during this time of pure hatred
towards his religion, he becomes unfocused on who he used to be, and strays from his true self.
Religion has been the motive of most wars throughout history, and often this external conflict leads
the oppressed to internal conflict. As seen through Elie, one can see how this internal conflict or loss
of faith alters personal identity. Elie has difficulty in understanding inhumanity and oppression
surrounding him at this early stage in his life. Elie is beginning to distinguish between what is
legitimate and what is fabricated in terms of the war; for instance, the truth about where they are being
taken and what the Almighty are doing about the Nazi s actions. Walking through Auschwitz,
observing the crematoria, and the hundreds of innocent people walking into their death unknowingly.

The Impact Of Television On American Society

that about 15 million Americans watch the Cable News Network, CNN, at least once a day and
millions more tune in abroad (Stark). In the news culture, information has become presented to the
public quicker throughout the years. This causes news to be digested faster as well. In fact, events,
such as election results or political choices, have become frequently analyzed before they even take

When television was first developed, entertainment was not one of the main priorities. Throughout the
years, however, people began to sit and watch television just for that reason. Soon came the
development of special programs, sitcoms, and even reality television which served as entertainment
purposes. Throughout the years, entertainment on television has become much more popular. It has
become an important part of our entertainment today. The average amount of hours per day that
television is on in an average U.S. home is six hours and forty seven minutes (Herr). In those six
hours, there are a variety of shows that can be seen, just for entertainment purposes. Sumner Redstone,
president and CEO of the major media company Viacom, quotes, I am very skeptical of this talk of
500 channels. I just don t know what s going to play on them ( 1920 s 1960 s Television ). Nowadays,
however, it is extremely common to scroll through television channels and always end up finding
something interesting. Not only is there a large variety of shows that Americans can now watch, it is
more convenient than driving to movies, concerts, sporting events, and plays and it is cheaper as well.
With modern day television people do not have to get dressed up and drive to see what they could be
watching on their own TV sets at home. This is why television companies have adapted to meet the
needs of the American people by supplying access to all of these events. This past summer television
again proved its convenience for entertainment, as many Americans were able to sit back and watch
the Olympics in their own homes while still being able to get the feel of what is it like there.

Postnatal Nervous System
Introduction:
The nervous system is a complex body system that takes years to fully develop and changes main
functions throughout one s life. (Enter Fetal Development Structure Here). Postnatal nervous system
development is a mix of fully developing parts of the brain, learning motor skills and natural
responses to outer stimuli. By puberty, all parts of the brain and spinal cord are almost fully growth,
and the pituitary gland starts releasing FSH and LH to begin the development of the body. After the
frontal lobe is at its full maturity level, the brain begins to lose grey matter and white matter, this
causes the nervous system to focus on maintaining homeostasis and make decisions based on what is

After birth, the nervous system works to develop the rest of the system and for the child to have core

system is functioning for the child to have their personality, emotional responses, and reflexes to begin

important to your providers directly even if you are applying for SAQ A. The scanning vendors ASV
scan solution is tested and approved by PCI SSC before an ASV added to list.

  • 2. The Pros And Cons Of Ferrets My ferrets dook, do the war dance, and skitter between my feet, and make my husband, kids, and I smile. For my family, ferrets are excellent pets. My husband thinks they re better than dogs, and the whole lot of us prefer ferrets to cats. Ferrets are very different from cats and dogs, however.Their behavior, smell, motivations, and shape are all different from cats and dogs. They are classified as exotic pets, and it is important that you consider the pros and cons of ferret parenthood before adopting one of these wonderful weasels. The differences between ferrets and other pets create the pros and cons of having a pet ferret Intelligence: I hesitate to say that cats and dogs are smarter than ferrets, but I readily acknowledge that ferrets have a significantly different kind of intelligence. Ferrets are pretty good problem solvers. As an example, for Christmas one year, I put an apple in a stocking for my ferret. (The ferret liked to steal apples and hide them. He didn t actually eat them.) The apple was just a tad smaller in diameter as the stocking. Ernie put his head in the stocking, grabbed the apple, and pulled. It didn t work. After only two tries he crawled out of the stocking and got on top of it. He pushed the apple out. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ferrets are intensely curious. They must know what is behind closed doors. They must know what is behind a barrier. They need to study the backside of a dishwasher and the inside of a sofa. If a ferret somehow manages to get in your pots and pans cabinet, don t be surprised to find them later in with your silverware. This tenacity makes it difficult to ferret proof and make your house safe for your beloved ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Thank You Rotary for this Scholarship When I was younger and thinking about college I always pictured it as I saw it in the movies, you sleep all day and have fun all night. Know what I know now I understand the importance of college and I think of it a little differently than before. I know that I need to work hard and study hard to be able to succeed at my fullest potential in college. I have had a few experiences in my life that have helped me realize that I need to work hard to get the output which I was hoping for in the beginning. I ve seen my sister diagnosed with diabetes her first week of high school, I ve witnessed my dad struggling through cancer and conquering it, and I have made it through 6 month of grueling and time consuming physical therapy to make it so I could use my shoulder again. Through these experiences my perspective about hard work and perseverance has changed dramatically, and for that I am thankful. My dad was diagnosed with cancer about 5 years ago. I was in middle school so I knew enough to understand that it was a very serious and scary thing which not all people can defeat. I had a very frightening realization that he could die and I might only have a limited time left with him. When he started to receive the chemotherapy treatments I knew that I had to step up and help out. This taught me that I had to get things done and I couldn t procrastinate. He ended up defeating the cancer and coming home soon after, I ll always remember how this experience taught me to stay strong and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Correlation Between Music and IQ in Children Essay 1. Introduction This project investigates the effect which the playing of a musical instrument namely the drums has on one s intelligence and academic ability. A search of the literature reveals that studies of this kind have been conducted by other researchers in many parts of the world and has led to the conclusion that music is an extremely healthy activity to be involved in. A study conducted on school children in America concluded that children who took voice or piano lessons had higher IQ s at the end of the year than those who did not (Munsey, 2006). Dye (2012) reinforces this, stating that scientific research shows that studying music improves school performance. Gaser and Schlaug (2003) showed that musicians learn advanced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The aim of this study is to ascertain whether learning to play the drums increases one s IQ score or not. Will learners who take daily drum lessons for two weeks improve their intelligence by improving their memories and having their brains stimulated? 2. Review of Literature A number of studies showing the relationship between the playing of musical instruments and IQ development are discussed below. A few studies on the effect of drum lessons on brain development are also considered. 2.1 Correlation between Music and IQ in children In Canada, Schellenberg conducted a study on school children and college students and concluded that those who took voice or piano lessons had higher IQ s at the end of the year than those who did not (Munsey, 2006). Schellenberg also studied whether the effect of an increase in IQ would continue to improve with more than a year s lessons and his most recent work has proven that this is in fact the case. The study found that young adults who had taken music lessons in childhood did have higher IQ s and better high school grades than people who didn t. He concluded that college students who had played a musical instrument regularly as children were two points ahead in IQ compared to their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Why Sports Have Been Such A Good Analysis Another reason why sports have been such a good part of my life is because I fill my time playing rather than getting in trouble. Throughout school one of my biggest motivations to not goof off in class and to behave my best in school is sports. As a student athlete, I know if I get in trouble at school then I could get in trouble with my coach and not be able to play in the next game. By getting in trouble, I m taking myself out of the game and letting down my teammates. Nowadays most kids I know who are not involved in a sport are most likely not motivated to succeed in anything or even care about anything in life. They spend their time drinking, doing drugs and partying or breaking the law. They have no guidance or a positive way to fill ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These jobs require a postsecondary degree; it is vital for there to always be an abundant of workers in worker forces like these because they are so important to our society. • 8. The Baroque School Of French Organ Introduction: Rarely in the documented history of music can we found a collection of compositions more perfectly tied to an instrument, than that of the Baroque school of French organ composition. Looking at the earliest examples of music from this period (which stem from even earlier vocal polyphony), one will find forms and techniques indubitably connected to the organ. By the start of the sixteenth century, the establishment of colloquial categories of organ composition, and independent vocal forms, were finally acknowledged. For the following two centuries the technical progression of the organ in conjunction with musical development, resulted in every stop on Baroque French organs being given a standardised function. This function was almost always outlined at the beginning of a score by the composer. Since medieval times French organ building has been well documented and recorded. Later on, Marin Mersenne compiled a book that outlined music happenings in Paris, Harmonie Universelle (1636), this book included French organ specifications and designs. Even from the middle ages, French organs placed an emphasis on tone color. Early French organs had an array of principals, mixtures and mutations, allowing for the creation of registrations such as Plein Jeu. However, organs of this time (late 1500s) were restricted a lot by the available wind power (how fast the boys in the basement could move the bellows!). What truly exemplifies this definition is the performance entitled This Little Light of Mine in which performers, Donald Craig Manuel and Charles Lloyd Jr, took the stage to deliver a beautiful duo that s consisted of Mr. Manuel s Baritone voice and Mr. Lloyd s performance on the piano. Mr. Donald Manuel performed twelve compositions in which ten of them were sacred pieces that expressed how much he loved the Lord and the other four were taken from major events he performed for such as: Festival of the Lion King at Hong Kong Disneyland, major productions abroad the Disney Dream, and musical numbers from popular Disney films. Even though each of these pieces were different in context they had numerous similarities such as: all of them being polyphonic, crescendo and decrescendo were used extensively, dynamics were used frequently, each piece was set to a walking tempo (Andante), each piece had the qualities of an opera, and he used vibrato in all his compositions. Even though all his performed pieces were brilliantly performed, the three compositions that stood out to me were: Ride on King Jesus by Hall Johnson, This Little Light O Mine by John Work, and Be prepared by E. John and T. Rice. The first piece that was performed, Ride of King Jesus, is a sacred, polyphonic piece that was performed in Low D flat in quadruple meter. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Matthew, he lists names of women while Luke does not list a single women s name. There are, however, several different reasons from people like scholars on why this could be possible. All the commentaries of why Matthew and Luke have different genealogies of Jesus have many differences, but a lot of similarities as well. What I got out of the solution was that Matthew and Luke were either both Josephs line with many differences in them or one was Mary s line and the other Joseph s. This is a question that makes me wonder why the author of the books would not just say what kind of genealogy it was. Did they not think that people later on would be very confused? The solution I would choose to be the correct solution would probably have to be that Luke was the royal line and Matthew the natural line. This is because Luke does not name any names of women and Matthew does. General Scott saw this and came up with the Anaconda plan. Scott considered the war a strategy game, and would attack and penetrate the enemy s forces without destroying all of their troops; focusing mainly on victory. At the beginning of the war Scott, unlike others, thought that the war would be over in more than two years. The war ended in four years. The term Anaconda plan came from Northern press trying to explain Scotts plan. Many people thought that Scotts plan was too passive and difficult. The Union s effort in the civil war increased greatly on April 19, 1861. At this point Abraham Lincoln created a naval blockade, a system of ships that stops all imports and exports, on the Confederate coastline. This blockade stretched from the Rio Grande to the Chesapeake Bay. At this time Lincoln s argument was that the Confederacy had no right to secede. Creating this blockade allowed the National warships to attack privateers. Privateers are privately owned and run warships. These ships were used to take the Union s trade ships. • 26. The Major Causes Of The Nigerian Civil War Nigeria, a country known around the world as the most hardworking place in Africa, has steadily been on the rise. Like any other country, Nigeria has faced problems within its history that has contributed to the challenges the country faces today. One of the the most notable events within its history is the civil war that occurred from 1967 to 1970. This war was caused by a variety of reasons, but the main factor that brought on the onset of the war was cultural tensions. The Nigerian Civil War can be characterized by a clash of cultures vying for control of the country. To understand the events that led up to war, you have to understand the colonial history of Nigeria that contributed to its sectional tensions. Nigeria was carved out of the west of Africa by Britain without regard for preexisting ethnic, cultural and linguistic divisions. The British combined two separate provinces to form a single colony that forced over two hundred ethnic and groups to become a single nation. At the advent of Nigerian independence on 1 October 1960, when Great Britain gave up colonial power over Nigeria, three regions based on ethnic groupings were created to comprise the independent nation of Nigeria. Following decades of ethnic tension in colonial Nigeria, political instability reached a critical mass among independent Nigeria s three dominant ethnic groups: the Hausa Fulani in the north, Yoruba in the southwest, and Igbo in the southeast. Each ethnic group vowed for control of the country after independence leading to a series of coup and assassination attempts. The measures each ethnic group took to control power resulted in one of the worst atrocities that divided the country: the Igbo genocide. Different ethnic groups took punitive measures against the Igbo. Further anger over the murder of prominent Hausa politicians led to the massacre of scattered Igbo populations in northern Hausa Fulani regions. This persecution triggered the move by Igbo separatists to form their own nation of Biafra the following year. The consequences of the war included starvation, mass death, and displacement of Igbos. With the Nigerian blockade cutting off the Biafrans from their expected source of oil revenue, the Biafrans suffered ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As a Holocaust victim, Elie Wiesel has a first hand experience with the overall cruelty that Jews become accustomed to in these times of torture. Within the second World War were additional wars inside the minds of innocent people, or internal conflicts. God is an entity that is positioned in the hearts of the enslaved; however, when put in distress, one s faith in God slowly begins to repress. In Elie Wiesel s memoir, Night, the significance of the loss in faith of God can likewise be perceived as the loss of identity. Wiesel reveals how during this time of pure hatred towards his religion, he becomes unfocused on who he used to be, and strays from his true self. Religion has been the motive of most wars throughout history, and often this external conflict leads the oppressed to internal conflict. As seen through Elie, one can see how this internal conflict or loss of faith alters personal identity. Elie has difficulty in understanding inhumanity and oppression surrounding him at this early stage in his life. Elie is beginning to distinguish between what is legitimate and what is fabricated in terms of the war; for instance, the truth about where they are being taken and what the Almighty are doing about the Nazi s actions.
