Causes Of High School Dropouts

Preventing High School Dropouts
By the time you reach high school, everyone knows someone who has dropped out. It has become a
common method of escape from whatever stresses school might be bringing upon a student. As time
goes on, more and more students seem to be dropping out of high school or college, with one student
dropping out approximately every 26 seconds. Most of them will not realize the long term effects until
it s too late. Students have begun choosing the easy way out and struggling later in life, generally
making thousands to hundreds of thousands less in their career. Though the dropout rate has fallen a
few percent in the recent years according to ( High School Dropout Rates ), the issue is still
prominent. Why do they do it and how can we prevent it?
The first big reason for dropping out is the simple lack of interest or academic difficulty in school.
They sit in class, doing anything but what they should be, waiting impatiently for the class to end. Or
they are dreading going to the next class. Nearly 26 percent report boredom as a contributing cause (
Why Kids Drop Out ). Many drop out due to the thought of even more school caused by failing
grades. The thought of even more time in a classroom proves to be too much and their motivation to
quit. Others may have other interests that take over any interest in their academics.
The second reason is problems outside of school. Be it family or housing

Recording Studio Music Analysis
Brian Eno said that the recording studio takes music out of time dimension and puts it in the space
dimension . Eno describes that the recording studio has opened a new world of music a world in which
the listener can listen to a performance over and over again. Prior to the use of the studio, listeners
could only listen to a performance once when it is performed live, so this opens new doors for
listeners. Listeners now have the ability with studio recordings to listen again and again to a
performance, to become familiar with details you most certainly had missed the first time though, and
to become very fond of details that weren t intended by the composer or the musicians (Eno, p. 127).
Therefore, this creates a new relationship between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, you could even say that the recording studio opened music up for fans today, so that
listeners can enjoy their favorite artists or performances continually as much as they want. Tomorrow
Never Knows by the Beatles is an excellent example of Eno s concept as well as the power the
recording studio has. There are so many different sound effects and styles mashed up within the song;
from McCarney s cut, mixed, and reversed solo from their previous song Taxman to Harrison s Indian
stylings with the sitar to Lennon s heavily altered voice to the loops created by George Martin, there is
always something new to hear within the song (McDonald and Hudson). Therefore, Tomorrow Never
Knows is an intriguingly important song for the space dimension because it invites listeners to listen
over and over again. The Beach Boys also build upon Eno s idea of the space dimension in their hit
Good Vibrations , where its unique and undefined nature develops this idea of sound (Schloss, Starr,
and Waterman, p.126 128). From its strange format of lyrics and verses to its unusual instrumentation,
Good Vibrations creates a world where listeners can find new and unintended things very time they
listen to the

Psychology At The University Of Southern Mississippi
While studying psychology at the University of Southern Mississippi, I developed an interest in youth
psychological health and social well being. As an avid learner, I subsequently became interested in
clinical child research and joined Dr. Christopher T. Barry s Youth Personality and Behavior (YPB)
laboratory as a volunteer research assistant during my sophomore year of college. After learning the
dynamics of working in a research laboratory, and taking courses such as adolescent, social,
developmental, and personality psychology, my interest in interpersonal relationships, personality, and
mental health solidified. From then on, I sought to expand my experiences in undergraduate research.
For example, I participated in my first independent research experience at the University of Illinois at
Urbana Champaign through the Summer Research Opportunities Program (SROP). I conducted
research in the clinical/community division of the psychology department, and my research focused
on how juvenile delinquency, ADHD, and perceptions of youth s control in choosing their own mental
health service impacted the magnitude of caregiver(s) strain. From my SROP experience, I learned a
wealth of information about tabulating data, from coding variables to running statistical analyses in
the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). SROP was a wonderful experience, and it
catalyzed my progress as an undergraduate researcher.
Shortly after my SROP experience, I began simultaneously

Dual Federalism
Federalism is the federal principle or system of government. The framers who were worried about the

relatively optimistic belief that a clear division between federal and state authority. Dual federalism
lasted from 1789 1901 and then came back into play in 19060 s When the depression came the

Cooperative federalism was ued primarily during the time of the depression to make government run
better. Through cooperative federalism it almost gives the bigger government the power to make
smaller government comply. For example, the works progress helped put millions into work during
the 1930 s. Regulatory federalism is a term used to describe the emergence of federal programs
(started in the mid 1960s).Regulatory federalism also includes congresses legislations on states to
meet their standards. An example of regulatory federalism happens to be the no child left behind act.
Which is an example of how all states and government must make sure that every kid gets the correct
education. New Federalism typically involves the Federal government providing block grants to the
states to resolve a social issue says Business Dictionary. New federalism lasted from 1937 1997 when
the supreme court did not void an act. New Federalism started when a Plan implemented under the
Nixon administration that transferred some powers previously held by the federal government back to
the state level. Under Franklin Roosevelt s New Deal some powers were removed from the state level,
so the states regain some of its authority Says

Character Analysis Of Little Women In Little Women
Margaret Meg March Brook, the oldest March sister in Louisa May Alcott s classic novel Little
Women, is demure yet fierce in her loyalty. Although she cares too much about other s opinions, she
learns to focus on kindness rather than charm and propriety, and value hard work over wealth. Known
to be motherly, Meg loves and encourages her friends and younger sisters. She embodies warmth and
compassion in her family throughout the book, first when she is living at home with her mother and
sisters, and later when she is married. Meg is loyal, compassionate, and gentle. She uses her loving
nature to encourage those around her from the time the story opens, and she is encouraging her sisters
to purchase gifts for their hard working mother for Christmas rather than for themselves, to when she
is married to John Brook and described as a most devoted little wife (page 278). I also put forth my
best effort to encourage and care for those I love. Although she is usually quite docile, when her aunt
tells her that she can t love John Brook because he is poor, Meg shows her strong sense of loyalty,
exclaiming, I couldn t do better if I waited half my life! (page 225). Alcott says that Meg hardly knew
herself, she felt so brave and independent , and describes her as Looking prettier than ever in her
earnestness . Although often reserved, it would be a mistake to describe Margaret March as weak; her
strength is evident when fighting for those she loves, and, if one

The Culture Of England At Fresno State
About the Culture of England
While walking throughout the halls at Fresno State, one may not realize the diversity of culture among
the student body. There are many international students that attend Fresno State, and it is more
common than students may think. I had the opportunity to interview one of these international
students, who traveled very far from her home country in order to attend school in the United States.
Esme Gullick, who came to Fresno State in order to pursue her dream of swimming, is now a member
of the Fresno State Swim Team, and has traveled 5,245 miles from her hometown of Weston Super
Mare, England. England is located within the United Kingdom, and is also referred to as Great Britain.

Interview with Esme Esme is currently 20 years old, and moved to the United States when she was 18.
She was born and raised in the coastal town of Super Mare, England, and described her hometown as
small and old fashioned. She said that England looks nothing like California because of all the rain,
and would compare better to Oregon, because of all the green. She also said that everything in
England is a lot smaller and cramped than in the U.S., including the roads and the buildings. When she
came to the United States, she was looking for the opportunity to compete and train at a competitive
level, while still being able to get her degree. She chose Fresno State because of the high standard that
is held for student athletes and she wanted to be challenged. Although this does not tie into the culture
of England, it does tie into her view of the United States. She viewed the United States as a better
opportunity, with better education and more competitive athletics. When I first sat down to speak with
Esme, the first thing I noticed was her accent. The primary language of England is English, however
she pronounced certain words differently than we do in the United States. One thing that is unique
about England is its pride in their Royal Kingdom. According to Esme, many holidays revolve around
the Royal Family. This includes recent events like the Royal Wedding and the births of the

Government Must Not Censor The Arts Essay
Cultural historians often ask how the preoccupations of an era shape a society. And the best insights
are revealed, not through the clarity of connection, the union of expression or the dominant ideology,
but through the chaos and rupture caused by the dissenting voice. It is often when an artist is most at
odds with his or her world, most subject to critical debate, that we glimpse the dominant values of
society, giving way to the cultural conscience of the time. One of the artist s and humanist s greatest
value to a society is in the mirror of self examination which they raise so that society can become
aware of its short comings as well as its strengths, stated the 1965 Senate Report on the establishment

However, as American s we are guaranteed the freedom of expression as written in the Constitutional
Bill of Rights, stating:
Congress shall make no law representing an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise
thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or of the right of the people to peaceably
assemble, and petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
It is with this First Amendment that allows us the right to the freedom of the speech, press and
discourse, and through cases in the Supreme Court, the freedoms have extended to all aspects of life.
Therefore, the censoring of any material, including in the arts and entertainment industry is not and
should not happen in the land of the free.
To begin, one must define what censorship is and determine when something has been censored.
There are several definitions going around, both by non partisan group as well as special interest
groups. The term censorship has its entomological roots in Latin and the word censere, meaning to
give as one s opinion, to assess, and it was in Roman times when censors were magistrates who took
the census count and served as assessors and inspectors of morals and conduct. Censorship then came
to mean the act of assessing the morality of a work. In the 21st century, Merriam Webster s Collegiate
Dictionary explicitly defines it censor and censorship as:

Spina Bifida Urinating
Spina bifida is a skeletal system disease and birth defect in which the neural tube fails to close
properly during the first five weeks of pregnancy. Since the neural tube failed to close, the child will
have damage to the nerves, spinal cord, and brain that varies in severity. Although the disease has
declined since 1982, there has not been a significant decline and the disease has relatively stayed at
the same percentile over the last several years. When I was born, I had a hole above my anus, where
the end of my spinal cord is, that was no larger than the tip of a pen, but was still noticeable. After
tests were conducted, it appeared to the doctors that I was almost a spina bifida newborn and that my
neural tube barely closed in time for the developmental process, which is why this disease is so
appealing to me. Reading of the side effects that I almost contacted, this article focuses on a major

Pricing This is a marketing strategy used by firms to attract customers to a new product or service.
Penetration pricing is the practice of offering a low price for a new product or service during its initial
offering in order to attract customers away from competitors. The reasoning behind this marketing
strategy is that customers will buy and become aware of the new product due to its lower price in the
marketplace relative to rivals. It can often increase both market share and sales volume. Additionally,
the high sales volume can also lead to lower production costs and higher inventory turnover, both of

North Korea s Nuclear Weapons
Issue for Decision
Dating back to the Korean War, North Korea has insisted its demand for nuclear weapons. North
Korean leaders and officials claim this right on the basis to safeguard North Korea s dignity,
sovereignty and ensure peace in its nation. Since its withdrawal from the Nuclear Non Proliferation
Treaty (NPT) in January 2003, North Korea has demonstrated unacceptable behavior violating its
obligations, in order to progress its nuclear weapon program.
The United States views North Korea s nuclear expansion behavior as intolerable. Current U.S. policy
aims to weaken North Korea s nuclear capabilities primarily through isolation, and ultimately to never
accept it as a nuclear state. We presently continue to tighten sanctions, condemn the DPRK s behavior
and use traditional deterrence measures in order to denuclearize the state.
I am confident that with tactful revisions in our current policy, we can more rapidly denuclearize and
freeze all nuclear missile activity in North Korea. These revisions include targeting financial and
regulatory sanctions against any government, financial or business entity serving North Korea s
nuclear program, countering North Korea s developing missile capabilities by securing the U.S. and

Racial Discrimination Throughout The Civil Rights Act Of 1964
I. BACKGROUND:
1. FACTUAL BACKGROUND:
Racial discrimination continues to be a prominent problem in today s society. It has been prohibited
federally since the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (title VII). Despite being a law for over 50 years, major
companies continue to have issues with racial discrimination. In fact, the most common type of
discrimination employees report to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is racial
discrimination. The U.S. EEOC enforces all of these laws. EEOC also provides oversight and
coordination of all federal equal employment opportunity regulations, practices, and policies. Racial
discrimination practices that are prohibited include hiring/firing, compensations, classifications,
promotions, layoffs, recruitment, training/apprenticeship programs, and leave decided based on race.
Federal Laws Prohibiting Job Discrimination (EEOC).
These racial discrimination practices comes at high cost for society. Large companies like Texaco,
Coca Cola and Merrill Lynch have had to pay millions of dollars to compensate the victims of race
discrimination and to pay for their own responsibility in encouraging or allowing a discriminatory
atmosphere to flourish in the workplace. However, these are the minimal costs because racial
discrimination has much larger implications on society. An important component of a country s
development is the ability for it citizens to collectively contribute, however this is prohibited by
discrimination (Winter). The fact

Rom Chocolate Brand
During the communism years, mostly during Nicolae Ceauşescu s reign , when basic products (food)
were rationed and the other products were exported for economical growth, Kandia SA created the
ROM chocolate bar.
More exactly, ROM is a chocolate bar filled with rum cream, a unique product created for the local,
Romanian market, first created in 1964.
The brand, from the begining, was succesful, because of the lack of choices and, of course, the
restrictions which were applied by the communist government.
At that time, ROM was a delight for everyone, and all the Romanians, from children to old people,
knew the brand and identified with it, because they had to.

Considering that, they are making the purchase on a low involvement level, since the product doesn t
have any kind of meaning for them, being just a low priced chocolate bar with rum cream filling,
which has the Romanian flag on it.
Nowadays, due to the new ROM campaign, the level of involvement is changing , increasing amongst
the young market segment. That s happening because customers are actively participating in this
campaign, which promotes the positive aspects of Romanians around the world.
Therefore, the involvement is being modified by changing the reason for which some people buy the
chocolate bar, actually by making them relate to ROM.
Overall, the new ROM campaign now focuses on „inviting consumers to buy the product and stand up

So, the ROM brand represents Romanian quality, history and a gate towards social groups

history. The ancient philosopher Plato does not directly address this question in his writings, but it can
be argued that the logic of his theory of forms demands the existence of forms that are negative in
meaning, such as the evil and the bad. When discussing his theory of imitation, Plato alludes to the
principle that whenever there are many things of the same nature, there is one form for that nature. In
several passages, Plato makes mention of many negative things. It can be debated, however, whether
or not the negative has a positive ontological character of its own for ... Show more content on

He writes:
Now, the god either because he didn?t want to or because it was not necessary for him to do so, didn?t
make more than one bed in nature, but only one, the very one that is the being of a bed. Two or more
of these have not been made by the god and never will be.
Why is that?
Because, if he made only two, then again one would come to light whose form they in turn would both
possess, and that would be the one that is the being of a bed and not the other two.[2]
Plato is saying that there is only one form for the many because there is a single nature that is
recognized as unifying each of the many. It is this nature that imitates the form and since the nature is
one, there can only be one form.
There are several points in the Republic where Plato alludes to many instances of a negative quality,
so it can be argued that, according to Plato?s system, there must be one negative form. For the purpose
of analyzing Aristotle?s criticism of Plato, David Ross outlines three distinct respects in which a term
can be considered negative.[3] The first category of negative terms that Ross identifies are those
which are ?purely negative in their meaning? such as the ?not good? or ?not beautiful.? What the
many not good have in common is the absence of being good. The second class of negative terms in
Ross?s division encompasses terms that are positive in the sense that they express a quality

The Eggs of the World Boiled Down
The Eggs of the World boiled down In The Eggs of the World, Toshio Mori writes about 3 men
meeting, one rich, one a poor drunkard, and the narrator. The point of view Toshio Mori uses in this
story is peripheral first person. This use of a somewhat uncommon way of writing and viewing a story
gives a look at events that is objective while not being unfeeling. Peripheral first person gives balance
between personal stake in the matter, but not so much as to lose objective view. This viewpoint also
gives new looks on the characters surrounding the author, giving both personal opinion and removed
observation. Lastly, peripheral 1st person gives a twist on which facts may or may not be included in a
narrative. In The Eggs of the World the use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hasegawa burst out laughing the minute Sessue Matoi stepped out of the house. He didn t (Mori 364).
This is different from if the story was being told by Mr. Hasegawa himself or if it had been written by
a 3rd person narrator, one would have no shock in the lack of a laugh and the other would not be
expecting a laugh. In this way the characterizations change because of personal experience, and so are
affected by 1st person peripheral narration in this story. Personal experience also influences the
inclusion or omission of facts in The Eggs of the World. When the author speaks of previous
encounters with Sessue Matoi, he shows Matoi as a drunkard but points to the fact that he is not just
drunk, but also quite smart. There was seldom a time when one did not see him staggering full of
drink. The trouble was that people did not know when he was sober or drunk. He was very clever
when he was drunk and also very clever when sober (Mori 361). This is personal experience affecting
the omission or inclusion of facts because a if Mr. Hasegawa was telling the story he might not focus
on this point of confusion and if a third person narrator was telling the story, the fact that one could
almost never tell whether Matoi is drunk or not would not have as much meaning. The things that the
author notices are things that other

Among them, the two most famous ones are Hin Daeng (Red Rock) and Hin Mouang (Purple Rock) in
the southwest. (Cummings 2012, p. 142). In addition, Thailand s beaches are very beautiful too.
According to Nam Suzanne, top five beach destinations of this country belong to Patong Beach
(Phuket), Railey Beach (Krabi), Maya Bay (Koh Phi Phi Ley), Hua Hin Beach (Hua Hin) and Kata
Beach (Phuket). Besides that, Thailand also has many other striking spots such as tropical islands, hill
tribes, museums, Buddisht temples, etc. and several World Heritage sites (Ban Chiang Archaeological
Site, Historic City of Ayutthaya, Dong Phayayen Khao Yai Forest Complex, Phuphrabat Historical
Park, Kaeng Krachan Forest Complex (KKFC), ...) (World Heritage List 2012). Many courses were
made up for tourists in Thailand so that they can learn some native skills like Thai cooking, Buddhism
and traditional Thai massage. This is a very interesting activity, especially for foreign visitors. Another
motive for tourists to visit this country is the variety of national festivals here. Some famous ones are
the fun for all water splashing Songkran, the almost fairytale like quality of Loy Krathong or local
festivals such as the Elephant Round up in Surin, the Rocket Festival in Yasothon and the curious Phi
Ta Khon festival in Dan Sai. (Cummings 2012, p. 468). Thai cuisine also is a very famous thing
worldwide because of its use of fresh herbs and spices.

Apocalypse Now By Francis Ford Coppola
In Francis Ford Coppola s, Apocalypse Now (1979), you follow the journey of Captain Benjamin L.
Willard, as he makes his way up the Nung River on a US Navy patrol boat in Vietnam to assassinate
Colonel Walter Kurtz. Coppola s film reflects the Vietnam war and all the horrors seen and unseen
associated with it. Specifically, the dissent into madness and the dehumanizing effects of war. Coppola
uses the river to symbolize this dissent into madness. The further up the river the crew got, the more
dehumanized they became. Even Coppola s choice of title Apocalypse Now screams what this movie
is about. This symbolism accompanied by perfectly paired music and camera angles that often cast
shadows strongly show the madness of war. Coppola expresses the decline into insanity in stages. In
this first stage, there is still have plenty of light and very few shadows. This stage represents the
dehumanization of the enemy and it is where we first meet Lt. Colonel Bill Kilgore. Coppola perfectly
pairs the song Ride of The Valkyries with a scene of Kilgore flying in with helicopters and tearing up
a village. As the song plays, we can see an uneven match between the Americans and the natives. Just
like a Valkyrie, Kilgore is seen as a decider of who lives and who dies. This is further enforced by the
fact that Kilgore is a part of the Air Calvary. A division of the Army that was once known to ride
around on horses, implying that Lt. Colonel Bill Kilgore is one of the four horsemen of

Medieval Oppression Of Women
Over the medieval period oppression of women has been a problem and has not been solved up to
now. Various movements have taken place against these dilemmas but they still exist in our nation and
while they prevail they ve given an upswing to problems and instances of obnoxious behavior.
Women have been unjustly held back from achieving full equality for much of human history. In the
novel The Palace of Illusions , Princess Panchali said He was always trying to discourage me from
attending Dhri s lessons and he wasn t the only one. At first, no matter how much I begged, King
Drupad had balked at the thought of me studying with my brother. A girl being taught what a boy was
supposed to learn? Such a thing had never been heard of in the royal family of Panchal! Dhai Ma
denied Panchali of accessing the lessons that Dhri was learning as she believed that they were making
her argumentative and too manlike in her speech.
Practices followed during the medieval period showed us the predominant injustice of our times is the
widespread, tyrannical oppression of women. The feudal society of the time encouraged Sati which
meant self immolation of the widow. By burning herself on the pyre of her husband, she proves her
loyalty. Even the child widows were not spared from this gruesome ... Show more content on

of India, where patriarchal traditions prevail; her self image was torn into shreds by the patriarchal

Essay on Message Sent To Children About Gender Identity
When discussing the meaning of gender identity, each and every person has a different view and
perception. Most times, these views are instilled upon them throughout their childhood whether they
are fully aware of it or not. As a result, some children feel forced to conform to the stereotypical
gender roles and identities defined by society. For me, however, that was never a problem.
The many experiences I faced throughout my childhood played a significant and defining role in the
shaping of my gender identity. As a young child my favorite toys were dolls and stuffed animals, and
quite often my parents found me setting up tea parties or playing house. While my parents did provide
me with cars and other gender neutral toys, I was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although most of the time it was never a major problem, as we got older we found that we had
increasingly less in common due to the kinds of toys we played with and our differing interests
overall. He was into trains and anything sports related, whereas I loved arts and crafts and playing
with dolls. While we were always able to find something to do, it was if we had to cross a barrier of
discomfort to get to that point. In a sense, it was almost like those other toys were foreign to us.
As a child, I was under the impression that as a girl you wore dresses, loved the colors pink and
purple, and played with dolls. I am not sure if that was because those are the thing I chose to do as a
child, or if it was a result of the things I was surrounded by and heard while growing up, although it
was probably a combination of both. I distinctly remember the day my mom asked me whether I
wanted to take ballet or soccer. I adamantly told her that I wanted to take ballet because soccer was for
boys. She told me that both boys and girls played soccer, however, that didn t change my mind. I was
a girlie girl, and I don t believe anything anyone could have done would have changed that. In third
grade, there was a boy in my ballet class. While we were told by our ballet teacher that many boys
take dance classes, many of us girls found it strange at first. He continued dancing at our studio for a
few years, and I later

The Literary Canon
I feel that familiarity with the works of the literary canon is only one of many ways that people can
improve their reading and writing skills. Reading is easy, understanding what you read is where the
challenge comes in. Some of the canonized books, such as the Bible, Shakespeare stories, Sun Tzu;
The Art of War, can be very difficult to comprehend especially for people of younger ages. The whole
point of reading is to comprehend and put into perspective whatever you read. There are some books,
poetry and other types of reading material that are straight forward with the message that it s intended
to convey. Then there are others that can leave you pretty perplexed as to the meaning behind the
passage. Take, for example the Bible: several

How Immigrants Have Been Treated Over The History Of Canada
Throughout this course, the focus has been on how Immigrants have been treated over the history of
Canada and the phases in which events and settlements began. Abu Laban states Substantive
citizenship involves pressing issues relating to equality of rights and opportunities; treatment and life
condition; and, not least, participatory involvement that ought to come from holding formal
citizenship...In short, being a citizen is no guarantee of equality; real equality is hampered by
inequalities resulting from membership in stigmatized and minoritized groups. Within this paper I will
discuss how this quote relates and argues the four phases of Canadian Immigration that were taught
within this course. Phase One of Canadian Immigration, pre 1901, included high British and French
populations, Jewish, Polish and German Mennonite settlements, High Asian concentration on the west
coast and the Immigration Act of 1896, which focused on country of origin of Immigrants until 1962.
In comparison to Abu Laban s quote above, this phase of immigration started the stepping stones to
allowing citizenship to those of other origins than just British and French. This phase helped improve
the life of immigrants during this time of history, because there was little discrimination on who could
become a Canadian citizen. 1896 1914, prairie settlement, was a time period of revisions on the
Immigration act, this revision allowed for denial of entry to any Immigrant belonging to any race

Taking a Stand on Land Forestry Wildlife Management
From the age of 15 I have had a job and was always better at work than school. It wasn t until recently
that I began to look back and decided I needed a change so, I made the choice to start college. My love
of fishing and the outdoors made the decision easy when it came to choosing my major, Land Forestry
Wildlife Management. Although the decision came easy and I feel it is the right career for me, there
are many issues, positive and negative, related to my field. Land Forestry Wildlife Management does a
lot of good for people and animals but can also hurt. Prescribe burning, wildlife control and forest
management are all big issues related to the field. Prescribed burning, also called controlled burns, has
many different purposes. The American Indians set fires to stimulate the growth of plants and keep
areas open to produce food (Minnesota Department of Natural Resources). Prescribed fires help
improve wildlife habitat and land quality. After the burns, the brush grows back greener and lusher,
providing nesting areas for animals such as deer. In addition, prescribed fires are a cheaper way to
manage vegetation as they require no bulldozing, cutting, or chemicals (Minnesota Department of
Natural Resources). Many argue that prescribed burning can be dangerous. To that I say with
everything there is good and bad. You must weigh the pros and cons and decide which outweighs the
other, for me that is the pros. Prescribed burning is a wonderful land management

Crown Awards, Inc. v. Discount Trophy amp; Co., Inc.
U.S. Court of Appeals, Second Circuit
2009 U.S. App. Lexis 8540 (2009)
Material Facts of the Case:
Crown Awards is a retailer of awards and trophies sold through mail order catalogs and via the
Internet. Crown designed and sold a diamond shaped spinning trophy for which it owned two
copyright registrations. Discount Trophy is one of Crown s competitors, and it sold a trophy that was
substantially similar to Crown s Spin Trophy. Crown requested that Discount discontinue the sale of
the alleged copy, and when Discount refused, Crown filed suit in the Southern District of New York.

We have held that where the works in question are so strikingly similar as to preclude the possibility
of independent creation, copying may be proved without a showing of access. In some cases, the
similarities between the plaintiff s and defendant s work are so extensive and striking as, without
more, both to justify an inference of copying and to prove improper appropriation. If a plaintiff
demonstrates actual copying through proof of a reasonable possibility of access and similarities
probative of copying, however, it can prevail on its infringement claim by demonstrating that
defendant s work is substantially similar to that which is original in the plaintiff s expression. With
inexact copies, this assessment proceeds by a comparison of the total concept and feel of the contested
works as instructed by common sense. The court must analyze the two works closely to figure out in
what respects, if any, they are similar, and then determine whether these similarities are due to
protected aesthetic expressions original to the allegedly infringed work, or whether the similarity is to
something in the original that is free for the taking.
Rules and Rationale Utilized by the Court to Resolve the Dispute:
The district court found that Crown owned a valid copyright in its diamond shaped spinning trophy
and that Discount had access to Crown s design through its receipt of Crown s 2006 catalog and its
monitoring of Crown s products. The district court

The Role Of Christianity In The Early Middle Ages
The boom of Christianity and the formation of Germanic kingdoms brought an end to the ancient
world and resurrected the middle Ages. Throughout the Early Middle Ages, Christianity was the
dominating religion with Rome being its largest supporter and the Latin language begin to make its
way through the mouths of every household. Yet, the middle ages initiated with a deterioration of
trade, culture, politics, and education. The Germans struggled adapting to the classical civilization.
However, a new civilization was beginning to evolve. It consisted of Christianity, the heritage and
culture of Germans, and Ancient Greek and Roman survivals. Christianity acted as an expression for
the people of Rome, and the Church was there place of comfort. People begin to depict life in a
different way. Religion brought hope, faith, and deliverance to the souls throughout the city of Rome.
They believed in the almighty power of God and that he whom followed the word of the Lord shall
prosper in all aspects of life. The only answer to seeing God was to abide by his word and worship
him in his house, the Church. People were so into Christianity that ... Show more content on

The Rocky Horror Picture Show
The Rocky Horror Picture Show is one of the most popular movies of all times. It s reach spreads
across generations and countries. At first glance Rocky Horror, as it is commonly referred to, can
seem like a crude movie that s sole purpose is to shock the audience with it s foul language and sexual
content. This is not the case; Rocky Horror brings attention to the gender roles placed on women and
men in society. This message is still important today because more than ever women and men feel
limited in their own bodies.
The opening credits identify to us who fits into what categories. Whilst listen to Richard O Brien
singing the infamous opening song the cast list appears on the screen with the actors name, the
character they play and a gender role they fit into. Dr. Frank n Furter is a scientist, Brad is a hero, and
Magenta is a domestic. Right off the bat we get a sense of how the characters are going to act in the
movie with these titles. The scientist should be smart, feeble and nerdy, the hero will be strong and not
afraid of anything and of course the domestic will be complacent and compliant. These roles are
challenged in the movie. Frank n Furter is in charge, or at least thinks he is, of everything going on in
the house. He is a strong male who is anything but feeble. Brad turns out to be the one who is the most
afraid and unaccepting of what is going on in the house. Whenever Janet participated in the singing or

Solution Focused Therapy And Experiential Therapy
This term paper is about solution focused therapy and experiential therapy. In solution focused
therapy, the therapy does not emphasize the problem at all; it stresses and highlights the solution. The
client is the expert and not the therapist. The experiential approach is often used to facilitate
meaningful changes in individuals. SFBT is a short term goal focused therapeutic approach which
directs clients to focus on developing solutions, rather than on dwelling on problems. The theoretical
framework, how change occurs, therapeutic techniques, postmodern perspective, the role of the
therapist and some clinical examples are given in this term paper.
My Family Therapy Models Term Paper on Solution Focused Therapy and Experiential Therapy

Nichols (2014), states may present a challenge when describing a basic technique. The two models of
family therapy in which I feel that I would be most effective and comfortable with would be,
experiential family therapy and solution focused brief therapy. I feel most comfortable with these
models because, I adapt to the role of the therapist of both therapies naturally. According to Nichols

obvious and sometimes they are not obvious. I ve found that during the first session an excellent

Goal Setting Theory of Motivation
Fred C. Lunenburg
Sam Houston State University
ABSTRACT Locke and Latham provide a well developed goal setting theory of motivation. The
theory emphasizes the important relationship between goals and performance. Research supports
predictions that the most effective performance seems to result when goals are specific and
challenging, when they are used to evaluate performance and linked to feedback on results, and create
commitment and acceptance. The motivational impact of goals may be affected by moderators such as
ability and self efficacy. Deadlines improve the effectiveness of goals. A learning goal ... Show more

Asking organization members to improve, to work harder, or to do your best is not helpful, because
that kind of goal does not give them a focused target.
FRED C. LUNENBURG
_____________________________________________________________________________________3
Specific goals (often quantified) let organization members know what to reach for and allow them to
measure their own progress. Research indicates that specific goals help bring about other desirable
organizational goals, such as reducing absenteeism, tardiness, and turnover (Locke Latham, 2002).
Goals Must Be Difficult but Attainable A goal that is too easily attained will not bring about the
desired increments in performance. The key point is that a goal must be difficult as well as specific for
it to raise performance. However, there is a limit to this effect. Although organization members will
work hard to reach challenging goals, they will only do so when the goals are within their capability.
As goals become too difficult, performance suffers because organization members reject the goals as
unreasonable and unattainable. A major factor in attainability of a goal is self efficacy (Bandura,
1997). This is an internal belief regarding one s job related capabilities and competencies. If
employees have high selfefficacies, they will tend to set higher personal goals under the belief that
they are attainable. The first key to successful goal setting is to build and reinforce

  • 2. Causes Of High School Dropouts Andrew Berry Mrs. Gallos English III 21 November 2017 Preventing High School Dropouts By the time you reach high school, everyone knows someone who has dropped out. It has become a common method of escape from whatever stresses school might be bringing upon a student. As time goes on, more and more students seem to be dropping out of high school or college, with one student dropping out approximately every 26 seconds. Most of them will not realize the long term effects until it s too late. Students have begun choosing the easy way out and struggling later in life, generally making thousands to hundreds of thousands less in their career. Though the dropout rate has fallen a few percent in the recent years according to ( High School Dropout Rates ), the issue is still prominent. Why do they do it and how can we prevent it? The first big reason for dropping out is the simple lack of interest or academic difficulty in school. They sit in class, doing anything but what they should be, waiting impatiently for the class to end. Or they are dreading going to the next class. Nearly 26 percent report boredom as a contributing cause ( Why Kids Drop Out ). Many drop out due to the thought of even more school caused by failing grades. The thought of even more time in a classroom proves to be too much and their motivation to quit. Others may have other interests that take over any interest in their academics. The second reason is problems outside of school. Be it family or housing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Recording Studio Music Analysis Brian Eno said that the recording studio takes music out of time dimension and puts it in the space dimension . Eno describes that the recording studio has opened a new world of music a world in which the listener can listen to a performance over and over again. Prior to the use of the studio, listeners could only listen to a performance once when it is performed live, so this opens new doors for listeners. Listeners now have the ability with studio recordings to listen again and again to a performance, to become familiar with details you most certainly had missed the first time though, and to become very fond of details that weren t intended by the composer or the musicians (Eno, p. 127). Therefore, this creates a new relationship between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, you could even say that the recording studio opened music up for fans today, so that listeners can enjoy their favorite artists or performances continually as much as they want. Tomorrow Never Knows by the Beatles is an excellent example of Eno s concept as well as the power the recording studio has. There are so many different sound effects and styles mashed up within the song; from McCarney s cut, mixed, and reversed solo from their previous song Taxman to Harrison s Indian stylings with the sitar to Lennon s heavily altered voice to the loops created by George Martin, there is always something new to hear within the song (McDonald and Hudson). Therefore, Tomorrow Never Knows is an intriguingly important song for the space dimension because it invites listeners to listen over and over again. The Beach Boys also build upon Eno s idea of the space dimension in their hit Good Vibrations , where its unique and undefined nature develops this idea of sound (Schloss, Starr, and Waterman, p.126 128). From its strange format of lyrics and verses to its unusual instrumentation, Good Vibrations creates a world where listeners can find new and unintended things very time they listen to the ... • 4. Psychology At The University Of Southern Mississippi While studying psychology at the University of Southern Mississippi, I developed an interest in youth psychological health and social well being. As an avid learner, I subsequently became interested in clinical child research and joined Dr. Christopher T. Barry s Youth Personality and Behavior (YPB) laboratory as a volunteer research assistant during my sophomore year of college. After learning the dynamics of working in a research laboratory, and taking courses such as adolescent, social, developmental, and personality psychology, my interest in interpersonal relationships, personality, and mental health solidified. From then on, I sought to expand my experiences in undergraduate research. For example, I participated in my first independent research experience at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign through the Summer Research Opportunities Program (SROP). I conducted research in the clinical/community division of the psychology department, and my research focused on how juvenile delinquency, ADHD, and perceptions of youth s control in choosing their own mental health service impacted the magnitude of caregiver(s) strain. From my SROP experience, I learned a wealth of information about tabulating data, from coding variables to running statistical analyses in the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). SROP was a wonderful experience, and it catalyzed my progress as an undergraduate researcher. Shortly after my SROP experience, I began simultaneously ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Character Analysis Of Little Women In Little Women Margaret Meg March Brook, the oldest March sister in Louisa May Alcott s classic novel Little Women, is demure yet fierce in her loyalty. Although she cares too much about other s opinions, she learns to focus on kindness rather than charm and propriety, and value hard work over wealth. Known to be motherly, Meg loves and encourages her friends and younger sisters. She embodies warmth and compassion in her family throughout the book, first when she is living at home with her mother and sisters, and later when she is married. Meg is loyal, compassionate, and gentle. She uses her loving nature to encourage those around her from the time the story opens, and she is encouraging her sisters to purchase gifts for their hard working mother for Christmas rather than for themselves, to when she is married to John Brook and described as a most devoted little wife (page 278). I also put forth my best effort to encourage and care for those I love. Although she is usually quite docile, when her aunt tells her that she can t love John Brook because he is poor, Meg shows her strong sense of loyalty, exclaiming, I couldn t do better if I waited half my life! (page 225). Alcott says that Meg hardly knew herself, she felt so brave and independent , and describes her as Looking prettier than ever in her earnestness . Although often reserved, it would be a mistake to describe Margaret March as weak; her strength is evident when fighting for those she loves, and, if one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She also said that everything in England is a lot smaller and cramped than in the U.S., including the roads and the buildings. When she came to the United States, she was looking for the opportunity to compete and train at a competitive level, while still being able to get her degree. She chose Fresno State because of the high standard that is held for student athletes and she wanted to be challenged. Although this does not tie into the culture of England, it does tie into her view of the United States. She viewed the United States as a better opportunity, with better education and more competitive athletics. When I first sat down to speak with Esme, the first thing I noticed was her accent. • 13. Government Must Not Censor The Arts Essay Cultural historians often ask how the preoccupations of an era shape a society. And the best insights are revealed, not through the clarity of connection, the union of expression or the dominant ideology, but through the chaos and rupture caused by the dissenting voice. It is often when an artist is most at odds with his or her world, most subject to critical debate, that we glimpse the dominant values of society, giving way to the cultural conscience of the time. One of the artist s and humanist s greatest value to a society is in the mirror of self examination which they raise so that society can become aware of its short comings as well as its strengths, stated the 1965 Senate Report on the establishment of the National ... To begin, one must define what censorship is and determine when something has been censored. There are several definitions going around, both by non partisan group as well as special interest groups. The term censorship has its entomological roots in Latin and the word censere, meaning to give as one s opinion, to assess, and it was in Roman times when censors were magistrates who took the census count and served as assessors and inspectors of morals and conduct. It has been prohibited federally since the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (title VII). Despite being a law for over 50 years, major companies continue to have issues with racial discrimination. In fact, the most common type of discrimination employees report to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is racial discrimination. The U.S. EEOC enforces all of these laws. EEOC also provides oversight and coordination of all federal equal employment opportunity regulations, practices, and policies. Racial discrimination practices that are prohibited include hiring/firing, compensations, classifications, promotions, layoffs, recruitment, training/apprenticeship programs, and leave decided based on race. Large companies like Texaco, Coca Cola and Merrill Lynch have had to pay millions of dollars to compensate the victims of race discrimination and to pay for their own responsibility in encouraging or allowing a discriminatory atmosphere to flourish in the workplace. However, these are the minimal costs because racial discrimination has much larger implications on society. • 22. Essay on Plato on the Existence of Negative Forms Plato on the Existence of Negative Forms The question of the origin and nature of evil in the world has preoccupied philosophers throughout history. The ancient philosopher Plato does not directly address this question in his writings, but it can be argued that the logic of his theory of forms demands the existence of forms that are negative in meaning, such as the evil and the bad. When discussing his theory of imitation, Plato alludes to the principle that whenever there are many things of the same nature, there is one form for that nature. In several passages, Plato makes mention of many negative things. It can be debated, however, whether or not the negative has a positive ontological character of its own for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He writes: Now, the god either because he didn?t want to or because it was not necessary for him to do so, didn?t make more than one bed in nature, but only one, the very one that is the being of a bed. Two or more of these have not been made by the god and never will be. Why is that? Because, if he made only two, then again one would come to light whose form they in turn would both possess, and that would be the one that is the being of a bed and not the other two.[2] Plato is saying that there is only one form for the many because there is a single nature that is recognized as unifying each of the many. It is this nature that imitates the form and since the nature is one, there can only be one form. There are several points in the Republic where Plato alludes to many instances of a negative quality, so it can be argued that, according to Plato?s system, there must be one negative form. For the purpose of analyzing Aristotle?s criticism of Plato, David Ross outlines three distinct respects in which a term can be considered negative.[3] The first category of negative terms that Ross identifies are those which are ?purely negative in their meaning? such as the ?not good? or ?not beautiful.? What the many not good have in common is the absence of being good. The second class of negative terms in Ross?s division encompasses terms that are positive in the sense that they express a quality ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This use of a somewhat uncommon way of writing and viewing a story gives a look at events that is objective while not being unfeeling. Peripheral first person gives balance between personal stake in the matter, but not so much as to lose objective view. This is different from if the story was being told by Mr. Hasegawa himself or if it had been written by a 3rd person narrator, one would have no shock in the lack of a laugh and the other would not be expecting a laugh. In this way the characterizations change because of personal experience, and so are affected by 1st person peripheral narration in this story. Personal experience also influences the inclusion or omission of facts in The Eggs of the World. When the author speaks of previous encounters with Sessue Matoi, he shows Matoi as a drunkard but points to the fact that he is not just drunk, but also quite smart. There was seldom a time when one did not see him staggering full of drink. The trouble was that people did not know when he was sober or drunk. • 25. Apocalypse Now By Francis Ford Coppola In Francis Ford Coppola s, Apocalypse Now (1979), you follow the journey of Captain Benjamin L. Coppola s film reflects the Vietnam war and all the horrors seen and unseen associated with it. Specifically, the dissent into madness and the dehumanizing effects of war. Coppola uses the river to symbolize this dissent into madness. The further up the river the crew got, the more dehumanized they became. Even Coppola s choice of title Apocalypse Now screams what this movie is about. This symbolism accompanied by perfectly paired music and camera angles that often cast shadows strongly show the madness of war. Coppola expresses the decline into insanity in stages. In this first stage, there is still have plenty of light and very few shadows. This stage represents the dehumanization of the enemy and it is where we first meet Lt. Colonel Bill Kilgore. Coppola perfectly pairs the song Ride of The Valkyries with a scene of Kilgore flying in with helicopters and tearing up a village. As the song plays, we can see an uneven match between the Americans and the natives. Just like a Valkyrie, Kilgore is seen as a decider of who lives and who dies. In comparison to Abu Laban s quote above, this phase of immigration started the stepping stones to allowing citizenship to those of other origins than just British and French. This phase helped improve the life of immigrants during this time of history, because there was little discrimination on who could become a Canadian citizen. 1896 1914, prairie settlement, was a time period of revisions on the Immigration act, this revision allowed for denial of entry to any Immigrant belonging to any race deemed ... • 31. Taking a Stand on Land Forestry Wildlife Management From the age of 15 I have had a job and was always better at work than school. It wasn t until recently that I began to look back and decided I needed a change so, I made the choice to start college. My love of fishing and the outdoors made the decision easy when it came to choosing my major, Land Forestry Wildlife Management. Although the decision came easy and I feel it is the right career for me, there are many issues, positive and negative, related to my field. Land Forestry Wildlife Management does a lot of good for people and animals but can also hurt. Prescribe burning, wildlife control and forest management are all big issues related to the field. Prescribed burning, also called controlled burns, has many different purposes. The American Indians set fires to stimulate the growth of plants and keep areas open to produce food (Minnesota Department of Natural Resources). Prescribed fires help improve wildlife habitat and land quality. After the burns, the brush grows back greener and lusher, providing nesting areas for animals such as deer. In addition, prescribed fires are a cheaper way to manage vegetation as they require no bulldozing, cutting, or chemicals (Minnesota Department of Natural Resources). Many argue that prescribed burning can be dangerous. To that I say with everything there is good and bad. You must weigh the pros and cons and decide which outweighs the other, for me that is the pros. Prescribed burning is a wonderful land management ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

U.S. Court of Appeals, Second Circuit 2009 U.S. App. Lexis 8540 (2009) Material Facts of the Case: Crown Awards is a retailer of awards and trophies sold through mail order catalogs and via the Internet. Crown designed and sold a diamond shaped spinning trophy for which it owned two copyright registrations. Discount Trophy is one of Crown s competitors, and it sold a trophy that was substantially similar to Crown s Spin Trophy. Crown requested that Discount discontinue the sale of the alleged copy, and when Discount refused, Crown filed suit in the Southern District of New York. We have held that where the works in question are so strikingly similar as to preclude the possibility of independent creation, copying may be proved without a showing of access. In some cases, the similarities between the plaintiff s and defendant s work are so extensive and striking as, without more, both to justify an inference of copying and to prove improper appropriation. If a plaintiff demonstrates actual copying through proof of a reasonable possibility of access and similarities probative of copying, however, it can prevail on its infringement claim by demonstrating that defendant s work is substantially similar to that which is original in the plaintiff s expression. With inexact copies, this assessment proceeds by a comparison of the total concept and feel of the contested works as instructed by common sense. The court must analyze the two works closely to figure out in what respects, if any, they are similar, and then determine whether these similarities are due to protected aesthetic expressions original to the allegedly infringed work, or whether the similarity is to something in the original that is free for the taking. Rules and Rationale Utilized by the Court to Resolve the Dispute: The district court found that Crown owned a valid copyright in its diamond shaped spinning trophy and that Discount had access to Crown s design through its receipt of Crown s 2006 catalog and its monitoring of Crown s products. • 34. The Role Of Christianity In The Early Middle Ages The boom of Christianity and the formation of Germanic kingdoms brought an end to the ancient world and resurrected the middle Ages. Throughout the Early Middle Ages, Christianity was the dominating religion with Rome being its largest supporter and the Latin language begin to make its way through the mouths of every household. Yet, the middle ages initiated with a deterioration of trade, culture, politics, and education. The Germans struggled adapting to the classical civilization. However, a new civilization was beginning to evolve. It consisted of Christianity, the heritage and culture of Germans, and Ancient Greek and Roman survivals. Christianity acted as an expression for the people of Rome, and the Church was there place of comfort. People begin to depict life in a different way. Religion brought hope, faith, and deliverance to the souls throughout the city of Rome. They believed in the almighty power of God and that he whom followed the word of the Lord shall prosper in all aspects of life. The only answer to seeing God was to abide by his word and worship him in his house, the Church. People were so into Christianity that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 35. The Rocky Horror Picture Show The Rocky Horror Picture Show is one of the most popular movies of all times. It s reach spreads across generations and countries. At first glance Rocky Horror, as it is commonly referred to, can seem like a crude movie that s sole purpose is to shock the audience with it s foul language and sexual content. This is not the case; Rocky Horror brings attention to the gender roles placed on women and men in society. This message is still important today because more than ever women and men feel limited in their own bodies. The opening credits identify to us who fits into what categories. Whilst listen to Richard O Brien singing the infamous opening song the cast list appears on the screen with the actors name, the character they play and a gender role they fit into. Dr. Frank n Furter is a scientist, Brad is a hero, and Magenta is a domestic. Right off the bat we get a sense of how the characters are going to act in the movie with these titles. The scientist should be smart, feeble and nerdy, the hero will be strong and not afraid of anything and of course the domestic will be complacent and compliant. These roles are challenged in the movie. Frank n Furter is in charge, or at least thinks he is, of everything going on in the house. He is a strong male who is anything but feeble. Brad turns out to be the one who is the most afraid and unaccepting of what is going on in the house. Whenever Janet participated in the singing or with what the aliens were doing he would get ... • 36. Solution Focused Therapy And Experiential Therapy This term paper is about solution focused therapy and experiential therapy. In solution focused therapy, the therapy does not emphasize the problem at all; it stresses and highlights the solution. The client is the expert and not the therapist. The experiential approach is often used to facilitate meaningful changes in individuals. SFBT is a short term goal focused therapeutic approach which directs clients to focus on developing solutions, rather than on dwelling on problems. The theoretical framework, how change occurs, therapeutic techniques, postmodern perspective, the role of the therapist and some clinical examples are given in this term paper. My Family Therapy Models Term Paper on Solution Focused Therapy and Experiential Therapy Family therapy is a technique that has many alternative approaches to every aspect of treatment which Nichols (2014), states may present a challenge when describing a basic technique. The two models of family therapy in which I feel that I would be most effective and comfortable with would be, experiential family therapy and solution focused brief therapy. I feel most comfortable with these models because, I adapt to the role of the therapist of both therapies naturally. According to Nichols (2014), when families seek therapy they are stuck in a life cycle transition, sometimes they are obvious and sometimes they are not obvious. I ve found that during the first session an excellent question is to ask the client why now so that they can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Goal-Setting Theory of Motivation INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF MANAGEMENT, BUSINESS, AND ADMINISTRATION VOLUME 15, NUMBER 1, 2011 Goal Setting Theory of Motivation Fred C. Lunenburg Sam Houston State University ABSTRACT Locke and Latham provide a well developed goal setting theory of motivation. The theory emphasizes the important relationship between goals and performance. Research supports predictions that the most effective performance seems to result when goals are specific and challenging, when they are used to evaluate performance and linked to feedback on results, and create commitment and acceptance. The motivational impact of goals may be affected by moderators such as ability and self efficacy. Deadlines improve the effectiveness of goals. A learning goal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Asking organization members to improve, to work harder, or to do your best is not helpful, because that kind of goal does not give them a focused target. FRED C. LUNENBURG _____________________________________________________________________________________3 Specific goals (often quantified) let organization members know what to reach for and allow them to measure their own progress. Research indicates that specific goals help bring about other desirable organizational goals, such as reducing absenteeism, tardiness, and turnover (Locke Latham, 2002). Goals Must Be Difficult but Attainable A goal that is too easily attained will not bring about the desired increments in performance. The key point is that a goal must be difficult as well as specific for it to raise performance. However, there is a limit to this effect. Although organization members will work hard to reach challenging goals, they will only do so when the goals are within their capability. As goals become too difficult, performance suffers because organization members reject the goals as unreasonable and unattainable. A major factor in attainability of a goal is self efficacy (Bandura, 1997). This is an internal belief regarding one s job related capabilities and competencies. If employees have high selfefficacies, they will tend to set higher personal goals under the belief that they are attainable. The first key to successful goal setting is to build and reinforce ...
