2. Wizard Of Oz Archetypes
The classic fantasy The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is a story written by L. Frank Baum, who suffered
from a heart condition. Since he was unable to participate in many activities as a teen he resulted in
writing, allowing him to escape the real world and live through his fantasies. Starting in Kansas and
moving into the Land of Oz it is the reoccurring patterns of symbolic and situational archetypes that
bring the story to life. Although originally written as a piece of children s literature, it is a story that
people of all ages love. Literature has the ability to take readers to another place better than the real
world. Expressive use of vivid colours throughout the Land of Oz, unfortunate situations that lead to
newfound friendships and Dorothy s purposeful journey allows readers to visualize how life would be
living in a childhood fantasy.
Firstly, the symbolism of colour plays a major role in expressing various emotions throughout the
story. In the beginning, Dorothy sees nothing but the great grey prairie on every side (Baum 3);
surround by grey Dorothy feels drained and unhappy. Kandinsky a Russian painter and art theorist
sates it is soundless and motionless... grey expresses a hopeless stillness the greyness of her home life
emphasizes how boring the real world can seem at times. In contrast, the Land of Oz is full of bright
vivid colours and beautiful sights (Baum 7) representing a dream world full of adventure and
excitement. As Dorothy arrives in Oz she is

3. Explain How To Determine The Visual And Academic Ability...
1. List at least three resources you should use to determine the visual and academic ability of a student
with a visual impairment. There are many resources a teacher can refer to in order to determine the
visual and academic ability of a student with a visual impairment. It is always best to consult the
primary source, the student, who often knows what their needs are. It is important to form a
relationship with the student because they will feel more comfortable expressing those needs to their
teacher. Another helpful source are parents and guardians, they live with their child, therefore know
their strengths and weaknesses, as well as understand the child more. Parents might also be able to
inform the teacher on what works best for their child. Teachers should also look over their student s
individualized education program (IEP), which will have a lot of useful information. For example, the
IEP will describe a child s strengths and weaknesses, academic goals, instructional and physical
accommodations and/or modifications, and a list of additional services and/or assistive technology
devices. Furthermore, traditional teachers can consult with a teacher for the visually impaired (TVI)
who can suggest strategies that will help the student learn more effectively. The last resources,
includes an orientation and mobility (O M) specialist, who helps visually impaired students navigate
in the classroom and at school, such as on the playground and in the cafeteria. 2. Explain why

4. Persuasive Essay On Animal Dissection
Most people have dissected an animal at some point in their education, be it a frog, pig, cat, or another
animal. Every year in the United States, roughly ten million animals are killed and used for dissection
in schools ( Animals Used in Education 1).The surplus of students dissecting animals in class has led
to this substantial number. Dissection is said to increase student understanding of biology and an
interest in careers in science (Edulab 1), which is why countless schools have their students dissect
animals. However, others advocate for methods that don t involve cruelty to animals. Why use a
learning technique if other methods are less expensive, and some tactics equally or more effective
regarding student learning? Essentially, an abundance of schools incorporate animal dissection as an
educational tool, but they seldom think of how negatively the lives of countless animals are impacted.
People don t fathom the cruelty that happens to animals before they land on the dissection table, and
that is something that needs to be changed. The dissection of animals for education has been a
traditionally used teaching tactic for decades, and it is cruel and should no longer be used. To start, the
suppliers of the animals to be dissected have been caught mistreating their animals. PETA s
investigations into biological supply companies, which sell animal bodies and parts, have uncovered
acts of cruelty to animals, including the drowning of rabbits and the embalming of cats

5. Stress Among Stress And Stress
In the United States, stress problems are common. According to, The American Psychological
Association (2017) , Stress in America is rated to be present in one third of the population. There are
so many studies which associate with stress levels at any particular moment of their lives. When stress
occurs repeatedly, the incidence of its occurrence is much higher when you think of throughout a
lifespan.
When talking about stress, it s regarding the reference to the negative experiences that overwhelm us.
Stress , it s something which gives a false impression of its true nature. It is the reaction to the
changing and demanding environment. When considered, stress is our capacity to handle those

Few of them enjoy the feeling of enormously stressed, which they think as a great change. But, others
don t feel that lack of stress even for a while which is said to have a negative meaning called boredom
. What individuals want, is to stay at the middle level; where there is a balance between lack of stress
and too much stress in all situations. These people want a little challenge and enthusiasm, but not too
much of it so that they feel overwhelmed.
At work, stress is the common cause which increasingly affects people in their day to day schedule, in
contrast to the increasing demands. It hits every aspect of life; physical, economic, social, spiritual and
mental. It is something that everyone experiences at some point of time and these can be categorized
into different types where some are long term and others are short term. When we take into
consideration coping with it varies from an individual to individual and major and minor events that
are happening in their life. It is a hard time understanding the considerable stressors like family,
education, relationship with co workers, and finances.
Another alarming concern is the stress related job, so it is always important to recognize the sources
that affect stress at workplace. Stress at work as a leading safety and health problem and launched a
series of initiatives to investigate and control

6. The Astronomy Of The Field Of Excellence For All Sky...
Bryan Gaensler is an Australian born astronomer who is currently leading a team of Australia s best
astronomers in the ARC Centre of Excellence for All sky Astrophysics (CAASTRO). His main field of
study is cosmic magnetism which also encompasses the study of supernova remnants. Because
magnetic fields are not visible to the naked eye or regular telescopes, Gaensler s team must use radio
telescopes to view the polarised radiation being emitted. By using radio telescopes to view the fields,
they are able to view the Faraday Rotation of distant objects and galaxies. Michael Faraday showed
that a magnet is capable of producing a rotational motion in a conductor carrying a current. So, in this;
light from a background object is altered when it is subjected to a cloud of magnetised gas. Through
the analysis of these observations, three dimensional maps of cosmic magnetism can be rendered
which will ultimately show the role they play in the functioning of the universe and how magnetic
fields work. Gaensler s in depth studies in the area of cosmic radiation have contributed greatly to
modern astronomy and to science in general. Through his works and the data he has gathered, we are,
and will continue to be able to make comparisons between the magnetism of local galaxies. His study
is critical to astronomy as magnetic fields are present in nearly every point in the universe and most
matter is tightly fixed to a magnetic field. These fields also scatter the gas of galaxies

7. Comparing Dr. Kinbote And John Shade By Vladimir Nabokov
Dr. Kinbote and John Shade
Vladimir Nabokov is an artist that accentuates the aesthetic pleasure which patterning affords. The
fabric of Pale Fire is woven with a dense texture of mirrors, doubles, parodies, games, riddles, masks,
and disguises. In the story, such games of perception (particularly the notion of reflection and
misconception) creates a disparity between reality and fantasy. One of the most well known and
multifaceted line in the poem comes from the first stanza, fifteenth stanza, and supposedly the last: I
was the shadow of the waxwing slain. The absence of the 1000th line and this disruption of the poem s
symmetry suggests the transition from a mere perception to reality, that John Shade was no longer the
shadow but the smudge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet, in the midst of all this, one thing that is clear is that Kinbote does in fact resemble a part of John
Shade and by knowing this, we can understand better why Shade does feel empathetic towards

8. Review Of Jon Meacham And The Failure Of American Higher...
It is not what a person says that is important, but instead how they say it. By changing the tone or
audience of a work, the purpose can be completely altered. Two articles can have identical
information, yet when a different tone is formed between the two, their purposes drastically change.
The article What Colleges Will Teach in 2025 by Jon Meacham and The Failure of American Higher
Education by Robert Atkinson both contain a topic that is similar on many levels. That being said,
each article has an entirely different tone and audience, effectively skewing the similarity between
their purposes. While Atkinson created a sound argument, his choice of tone and use of audience were
far less effective than Meacham s. To better understand the writing of an author, it is important to see
where they are coming from. Both Meacham and Atkinson are professionals who have a lot of
knowledge on their topic. Atkinson is the founder of a well known think tank, along with having an
extensive background in economics. Being an employer, Atkinson has personal experience with the
hiring process. On the other side of the spectrum, Meacham has a prodigious knowledge of American
history. He is both a best selling author and a fellow of the Society of American Historians. This,
along with being a former trustee of the University of the South give Meacham an air of expertise on
the topic of his article. Meacham s audience is specific, aiming to pinpoint the problem and resolve it.

9. Hmong People Movie
Walt was described as a stereotypically racist old man from the beginning of the movie. Walt used the
bad word for everyone around him, whether it is his son or grandchild. He lived alone in an old
neighborhood full of immigrant and refugees. He still holds many prejudices toward the Asian people
because of the experiences he had during the Korean War. From the movie, I can see that the Korean
War also shaped the racial belief of Walt. So this also led to his negative attitude toward Hmong
people in his neighborhood even though he knew nothing about them. He used the racial slur when he
first met Thao and slammed the door in Thao s face. Another example is when he called the Hmong
people Chinks , an offensive word to call Chinese. When Sue invited him to her house BBQ party, he
used some racial slurs. He called the Hmong people fish head when they looking at him after he
touched a Hmong girl on the head. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is a transformation in Walt s belief. Besides the experiences in Korean War, another reason that
leads to his negative attitude toward Hmong people is the language barrier and differences in culture.
He had opportunities to understand more about the tradition of the Hmong people when Sue invited
him to the party at her house. Sue also explained the negative reactions of the Hmong people with
Walt. As Sue said, Hmong people consider looking someone in the eye to be very rude, and they tend
to grin or smile when they are yelled at, this is because they are insecure, not because they are
disrespecting the admonisher. And Walt appeared to accept Sue s explanation. As he gets closer to the
Lor family, his use of racial slurs also changed from the time, the way he used it could not be seen as
an insult

10. Tenant Education
Tenant Education: a Treatment, not a Cure In Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City, by
Matthew Desmond, it is stated that landlords in the city of Milwaukee evict roughly 16,000 adults and
children each year, amounting to approximately 16 families evicted daily through the court system,
and many more removed by other, even less pleasant means (4). Many communities across America
have started to offer tenant education programs to teach renters how to manage their money and their
relationships with landlords in order to avoid eviction. Tenant education is certainly not a bad thing,
but is not a complete solution to the problems it attempts to address, because it does not address the
landlord s roles in housing disputes and because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Desmond describes in Evicted Milwaukee s remarkable decline in employment, starting with almost
no unemployment in the postwar years to having an unemployment rate in the double digits, partially
due to an exodus of manufacturing jobs. The remaining jobs paid less, since they were in the service
sector rather than unemployment (24). With the decline in well paying jobs in many parts of America,
many tenants will not have the money to pay the rent no matter what and how much knowledge they
are given about how to manage it. An effective program would have to somehow help the tenants find
safe housing, initial funding, and a job to ensure their knowledge can then be applied to stay housed in
the long term. In Evicted, Arleen is not depicted doing anything that would seem substantial to get her
evicted, unless it is to be considered her fault that a man kicked down her door when her sons threw
snowballs at his car (Desmond 2). However, it is revealed that Arleen and her children have been
without a home many times (Desmond 3). Arleen and tenants like her will not benefit substantially
from participation in tenant education programs, because their problems do not come from ignorance,
but from the

privilege breathing down his neck. Zach will just keep on churning through everything. Small
examples of his determination are Law schools being explicit to whites only. Stating his only way of

Children and elderly persons sometime steal without realizing they are committing a crime. In urban
cities, it is not unusual to find a network of fences who send out teams of shoplifters into specific
retail stores to shoplift specific items, much like filling an order for a customer. The fences only pay
10 20 cents on the dollar to the thieves and sometimes pay their room, board, and provide training on
how to steal and defeat the anti theft technology. Some fences have been known to bail their workers
out of jail when caught or provide for their legal defense. This creates a kind of strange street loyalty
much like the tale of Oliver Twist.
Theft from stores, including employee and vendor theft, cost retailers many billions of dollars per
year. Independent retail studies* have estimated theft from retail stores costs the American public
33.21 billion dollars per year. Depending on the type of retail store, retail inventory shrinkage ranges
from .5% 6% of gross sales with the average falling around 1.75%. Whole retail store chains have
gone out of business due to their inability to control retail theft losses. And worse yet, the cost of these
losses are passed on to us...the consumer.
Shoplifting losses will vary by store type, but can account for about one third of the total inventory
shrinkage. It is estimated that shoplifting

Napoleon Bonaparte or should I say the Son of the Revolution , I believe was both a preserver and a
destroyer of the French Revolution. In fact, In a sense, Napoleon brought the revolution to an end in
1799, but he was also a child of the revolution (Spielvogel 544, 1). Napoleon had helped the French
people and the French government in various ways; nevertheless, Napoleon thought that constantly
the people owed him. I think that this is how he acted like a child. Napoleon became commander of
the French army in 1796 in Italy. Since he was now the commander he was reliable to do what he had
to for the French without the people owing him anything. Moreover, from the time he became
commander he had fought and won numerous wars beginning ... Show more content on

Europe at one time did have factories which were stocked with quite expensive items, but because of
other companies taking over them prices fell and people were left unemployed. Europe had a high
death rate because of lack of food and terrible living conditions. In Europe there was a lot of poverty
whereas in Great Britain there was not. Because of emigrants coming from all over to Europe
especially, people from Ireland, Europe s population began to grow. It was then that Europe soon
would be exposed to experience industrialization.
How did the Industrial Revolution affect the family, the role of women, and living conditions? The
Industrial Revolution affected families in countless different ways. For the bulk of people who were in
the working class lived in small houses. Considering that these houses were so small, the people in
them would be crammed together. There were 63 families where there were at least five persons to a
bed; and there were some in which even six were packed in one bed, lying at the top and bottom
children and adults (Spievogel 569, 1). The houses were unsanitary and the people from the working
class were more likely to come in contact with a disease. The people of the working class were not as
physically healthy looking because they did not eat and live as well as the middle class or wealthy did.

18. The Life Of The Landscape Essay
The landscape changed quite drastically as we left the lush rainforest behind and entered the semi arid
region in the South of Okanagan in British Columbia, Canada. Green fir trees made way for golden
rolling hills and scrubby terrain. Adding a splash of colour to the otherwise dry looking terrain were
the green vineyards perched against the gentle sloping hills. This might come as a surprise, but
Canada s only desert is home to a growing wine community with many award winning wines being
produced here. Welcome to Osoyoos.
As we approached the town, a large lake came into view. Osoyoos Lake is the warmest freshwater
lake in Canada and is surrounded by pristine vineyards along its perimeter. 37 wineries are now a
member of The Oliver Osoyoos Winery Association, a non profit organization with a goal to develop
the wine industry in Oliver and Osoyoos through education and promotion. While driving through the
region, we decided to visit a few well known and lesser known wineries and learn about their history.

#######poorly written######Pozzo s Triumph of Saint Ignatius of Loyola is on the ceiling of the
Church of Sant Ignazio in Rome, and was painted from 1685 1694. It is approximately 56 feet by 115
feet across the ceiling, and uses a quadratura perspective to create an almost three dimensional effect.
While the effect makes the center look much higher, it is actually painted on an arched ceiling called a
barrel vault. This is a fresco painting, a type of coloring that made the painting integral to the
construction of the building or item. Inside the Church of Sant Ignazio, there is a single white tile
indicating where the viewer is intended to stand to truly appreciate Pozzo s work. The scene illustrates
many different saints and other highly viewed people, all ascending towards the sky. There is also
allegorical figures of the 4 continents (America, Europe, Africa, and Asia) attached to the side of the
buildings windows at the base of the painting. The scene is filled with cherubs that seem to be aiding
the continents and saints. At the center of the painting, Saint Ignatius is following Christ into heaven,
with beams of light coming from his body towards the four continents. The arches at the ends of the
painting also add to the illusion that the center of the painting is much higher than the rest of it. Saint
Francis Xavier is also shown in the work ascending towards the heavens.

idea to exercise control relating to when they would stop having children. This proved to be yet
another form of unfair judgment forced upon women by uninformed officials. The New York Civil
Liberties Union was notified to help Mrs. Caparelli fight this method of inappropriate control by
hospital officials (New York Times, 1971).
Article Three: Abortion Cutoff Causing Hardship For Poor Women Around Country
This final article explains that the government refuses to pay for abortions of women dependent upon
public assistance (Roberts, 1977). Author Steven Roberts, wrote that because women on public
assistance were refused financial assistance to acquire abortions, many opting for illegal abortions
endangered their lives. Not only were facilities not up to code, but many performing the procedure
were not medically approved to do so. As a result, these lower income women had a difficult time
acquiring abortion services because many health care facilities refused to carry out the practice. In the
end, many women accepted unwanted pregnancies, become more impoverished, and tried to make the
best of unplanned situations.

23. Revlon V. Mcandrews And Forbes
Revlon v. McAndrews Forbes: Less than a year later, the Delaware Supreme Court circumscribed
directors freedom of action by holding in this case that, once a sale is in progress, the director s duty
switches from protection or maintenance of the corporate enterprise to obtaining the highest price for
the benefit of the shareholders. In other words, once directors understand that the takeover will be
successful, their duty is simply to obtain the best price for the shareholders.
The first precedents of the Delaware Supreme Court show that the standards were reluctant to the
permissiveness in adopting defensive measures. Rather, the courts preferred the passivity of the board.
However, 4 years later the standards changed when the Court relaxed the reins that had been tightened
in Unocal and Revlon.
Paramount Inc. v. Time Inc.: The court gave more leeway to directors in deciding on defensive
measures, even after it was inevitable that the target would be sold. The court held that directors of
target could consider factors other than money values of the offers, including the amount of
information available to shareholders, the conditions attached to the offers, and the timing. These
factors might justify defensive measures. These defenses were called just say no defenses . They refer
to the ability of directors to simply reject takeovers for the purpose of protecting the constituencies of
the company.

24. Examples Of Justice In No Country For Old Men
In the novel No Country for Old Men by Cormac McCarthy, there is a battle between two versions of
justice. In typical western narratives, the Sheriff is the strong hero who perseveres through battle with
the antagonist, and the good guys always win. However, this novel disrupts this usual ending with the
introduction of a unique antagonist, Chigurh. Chigurh breaks the mold of the typical old western
villain in how he manages to outsmart the law and escape. His escape is a disastrous blow to the
system of justice the Sheriff has spent his life trying to maintain. Through this, the author displays a
twisted, unhappy version of justice in Chigurh and how it compares to Sheriff Bell s typical, objective
notion of justice on the western frontier. This interpretation showcases that sometimes justice is not
between only good and bad, and good does not necessarily always win. With its alternative versions of
justice, the novel illustrates the changing morality of the western frontier, the weakness of moral
driven justice and how these opposing views create individual interpretations of justice compared to
an objective standard.
The Sheriff can be characterized as the hero of this novel. As a law enforcement official, he represents
an objective, straightforward idea of justice. This point of view sees justice as black and white: there
are good guys and bad guys, and the good guys always overcome the bad guys. This ... Show more

URL is an acronym for Uniform Resource Locator and is a reference (an address) to a resource on the
Internet. A URL is the fundamental network identification for any resource connected to the web. It s
often easiest, although not entirely accurate, to think of a URL as the name of a file on the World Wide
Web because most URLs refer to a file on some machine on the network. However, remember that
URLs also can point to other resources on the network, such as database queries and command output.
Most people realize that a space is not allowed in a URL. However, it is also important to realize as
the URL string can only contain alphanumeric characters and !$ _+* () . Any other characters that are
required in the URL must be encoded. For analysts, there are two key reasons that a solid grasp of

Cocaine originated from South America, from coca leaves. Originally, the coca leaves were chewed by
workers to decrease fatigue, improve endurance and have a greater resistance to the cold. This was to

ingredient in cocaine was isolated from the leaves, and in 1880 it was used as a local anesthetic
(Nunes,2006). It was also used in coca cola. In 1855, coca cola was a soda beverage that contained
sixty milligrams of cocaine for every eight ounces of the beverage. The idea behind this was to give
people energy and a sense of well being (Nunes, 2006). By the late 1880s Sigmund Freud was using

fast results. The next route of administration for cocaine is intranasal. This is where cocaine is snorted
or sniffed up the nose. This is the most common way that cocaine is administered. Intranasal routes
require ten to fifteen minutes for the desired effect of cocaine to begin. The last method is inhalation.
This is where cocaine is smoked. The effect of inhaling cocaine is felt almost immediately; however,

with most of its effects vanishing twenty to eighty minutes after administration (Volkow, 2013).

Jaycee Lee Dugard was an average 11 year old girl in fifth grade. While she was walking to her bus
stop on a June day a car came up beside her and a man and woman jumped out and grabbed her.
Jaycee Dugard s conflict with her kidnapping teaches the reader how to overcome any obstacle
through her strength and desire to live a normal life after being discovered 18 years later with two
daughters. Jaycee was kidnapped in 1991 by a man and his wife at the age of 11. She was put through
rapes, and unusual living situations for 18 years. Unlike most kidnappings that society knows, Jaycee
was never abused other than the rapes. Her kidnappers, Phillip and Nancy never mentally or
physically abused her. They wanted to keep her happy so that she wouldn t try to escape or rebel
against them. But as an 11 year old girl it was hard for Jaycee to be happy. Her life became her being

The two paintings Adoration of the Magi, by Botticelli, and Peasant wedding, by Pieter Bruegel the

Adoration of the Magi during the Italian Renaissance. The piece was commissioned by Cosimo de

Bruegel the Elder completed the painting Pheasant Wedding in 1567, which is a depiction of the local

With their family and friends blissfully dining, the peasants depicted in Peasant Wedding manifest the
simple Lutheran religion that was being innovated at the time. The two paintings contrast in this way
because of the indistinct and undeniable religious backgrounds the paintings have.
Although there are many singularities in between the Northern and Southern Renaissance styles there
are distinct similarities in the two artistic communities. One similarity is the the belief in Humanism
that is represented in both the Adoration of the Magi and Peasant Wedding. Humanism is the belief
that stresses the potential value and goodness of human beings and was innovated in both the Italian
and Northern Renaissance. This belief can be seen in the painting Peasant Wedding by the way that
Bruegel the Elder illustrates the congregation of people that had attended the wedding. Likewise, in
The Adoration of the Magi, Botticelli communicates his belief in Humanism by the way he precisely
draws each person in the painting. The two paintings portray the Humanist beliefs through the precise
details in which they paint each person and indicates that they have faith and trust in the human race.

The One Song Everyone Would Like to Learn: Siren Song
Poetry can be used to provide the average person a daunting realization about how easy it is to fall into
the trap of manipulation. A siren, a female and partly human creatures in Greek mythology that lured
mariners to destruction by their singing , is a magical example of this manipulation (Merriam
Webster). The song sung by a siren, or a siren song is used to mesmerize and draw in the victim,
showing the strength of a womens appeal and how easy it is to lure men into a false sense of courage
because of their vanity. The poem Siren Song by Margaret Atwood portrays just this: an artistic piece
of literature that exposes the vanity within men and the blinding appeal and power of woman who
abuses her aspects of temptation through the use of powerful diction and emotion in the carefully
structured form of her poem.
The title of this poem, Siren Song , is significant to the poem as it provides the reader its speaker. The

Stephen Crane s The Open Boat
Humanity often tends to see itself as being somehow important in the grand scheme of the Universe.
We speak of fate as if we were put here for some reason, or purpose. We have our religions, which
often serve as an engine to drive our lives and as a means to give meaning to them. But why do we
think of ourselves in such a superior fashion? Do we really matter at all? Would the Universe stop if
we were suddenly taken away? In his short story, The Open Boat, Stephen Crane shows us a Universe

The men, however, seem removed from the clockwork of their surroundings; seperate, but somehow
in the midst of everything happening around them. This indifference causes the men to feel a certain
isolation from nature. They even go as far as to think of the Universe as being hostile: [The waves
were] nervously anxious to do something effective in the way of swamping boats. (1) This is,
however, just normal activity of nature, not any act of agression against Man.
Although the men are pitted against an uncaring sea, they still at this point seem to think their
destinies are controlled by some outside force. Their collective thoughts are given: If I am going to be
drowned if I am going to be drowned if I am going to be drowned, why, in the name of the seven mad
gods who rule the sea, was I allowed to come thus far and contemplate sand and trees?...If this old
ninny woman, Fate, cannot do better than this, she should be deprived of the management of men s
fortunes. (6) It soon dawns on them, though, that there is no fate, no purpose for their being where
they are. It is the realization of this fact that brings the men to the brink of despair: When it occurs to a
man that nature does not regard him as important, he at first wishes to throw bricks at the temple, and
he hates deeply the fact that there are no bricks and no temples. (6) It seems to them that their

Stalin dominated the USSR physically as well as politically. His images were found everywhere, as he

PRRs recognise molecules that are not associated to human cells (PAMPs). The best characterised
signalling PRRs are the Toll like receptors (TLRs). They are present in plants, invertebrates and
vertebrates, and represent a primitive host defence mechanism against bacteria, fungi and viruses.
There are 13 TLRs that have been discovered in mammals so far, named TLR 1 to TLR 13. TLRs are
primary transmembrane proteins of immune cells, that contain leucine repeats in their extracellular
domains and a cytoplasmic tail that contains a conserved region called the Toll / IL1 receptor (TIR)
domain. The Toll gene was first discovered in the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster, but has close
homologues in mammalian immune cells. This is where the name Toll like receptor is derived.
Different combinations of TLRs appear in pairs in different cell types. Different TLRs bind directly or
indirectly to different microbial molecules. TLRs found on cell surfaces: a. TLR 1/TLR 2 pairs bind
uniquely bacterial lipopeptides and GPI anchored proteins in parasites b. TLR 2/TL6 pairs bind

rejects the political, social, and moral domination of the West. Leopold Senghor, Leon Damas, and

Prospero becomes the ruler of the only other two inhabitants of the island, Caliban and Ariel. Cesaire
uses the same series of events, but confronts his readers with the unpleasant realities of slavery in the
Americas (Allison). While Prospero is cast in the role of a White slave owner, the natives, Ariel and
Caliban, are transformed into his black slaves. The presence of race in the play is also displayed when
Cesaire exposes the feeble, racist, stereotypes many Whites propagate about Blacks (Dayan 134).
When referring to Caliban s living quarters, Prospero says, It wouldn t be such a ghetto if you took the
trouble to keep it clean (Cesaire 13). Such a statement is clearly racist and plays into the stereotypes
many Whites have about Blacks, and also makes the presence of race in Cesaire s play more obvious.
Another aspect of Cesaire s play that proves it is written from the African American perspective of
colonization is the language used. The Tempest is written, obviously, in Shakespearean language, a
European form which is sometimes difficult for the modern reader to understand. Cesaire sees writing
in an European language as a representation of Shakespeare s favoring of the Europeans in their
domination of Americas. Therefore, to contradict this viewpoint, A Tempest is written in a more

Board of Education was actually the name given to five different cases that were heard by the U.S.
Supreme Court already. All of the cases were about segregation in public schools. The 5 cases were
Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, Briggs v. Elliott, Davis v. Board of Education of Prince
Edward County (VA.), Bolling v. Sharpe, and Gebhart v. Ethel. Even though there were many
differences in the details of the cases, they all dealt with segregation in public schools. They all
happened around the same time so the Supreme Court decided to hear them together. When the cases
were heard in 1952, the Court put all five cases under the name of Brown v. Board of Education.
Thurgood Marshall argued the case before the Court himself. Although he raised a variety of issues,
the most common issue was that separate school systems for blacks and whites were very unequal,
which violates the equal protection clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.. Based on sociological tests
and other data, he also argued that segregated school systems were used to and purposely made black
children feel less important than white children, and this kind of system should not be

43. Taking a Look at Punk Rock
A. Alright, I know what your thinking, Here we go the third speech, time to get out my desk pillow
and my drool bucket and take a nice long 5 7 minute nap. Or maybe this time I will count the number
of tiles that are on the ceiling. While I understand that taking a nap may be a great option, and
counting the ceiling tiles may be good knowledge to have for what reason I do not know, If you listen
today you may learn something interesting, its not guaranteed but I would almost count on it. B. Now
when you here the words punk rock or just punk in general you may think negatively and picture
things like dark clothing, body piercings, suggestive language and loud aggressive music. Now while
most of these things are true to be associated with this genre of music, there is a completely different
side of this topic that is often looked over and not mentioned much yet it is probably the most
important aspect of punk rock. C. Ive been involved with music for quite some time ever since I
started playing guitar several years ago. I have played and listened to several different genres of music

whatever lyrics came to mind and play it however I wanted not worrying about anyone or anything
getting in the way. D. Punk rock allows you to express your uniqueness and individuality through
music and style. Punk allows you to be aggressive and angry and live by your own rules not

44. Language, Language And Gender
As we all know, language is a very important role in our daily life and everyone on the planet uses a
language. Language is used in so many ways. It is assigned to every country, and usually every
country has its own language which is very unique. Whether one speaks or not, a language is still
used, either verbal or sign language is used. Now to note here, language is not used in the same form
by gender. Gender takes a huge role on language. Pronunciation and grammar are tended to be used
very differently by gender. Basically when it comes to language and gender there is a different dialect
between females and males in many countries and not just the United States. There have been a
number of languages recorded throughout the world that have some sex differences (Bradley, 1988, p.
13). There have been many papers and articles written on language and gender by different
researchers. These researches, include many from the book used in this class, are fascinated and
interested about the different language usage used between two different sexes. The papers in this
section reveal that there can be many different patterns of linguistic usage (Coates Pichler, 2011, p.
10). In this paper I will be analyzing powerless language, usage between females and males. I will
also provide my study of interruption, overlap, and swearing in a mixed gender conversation. My
analyzation will consist of a thirty minute conversation between four individuals.
Among these four people are two

45. Comparing Rip Van Winkle And The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow
Washington Irving is a well known author famous for his stories Rip Van Winkle and The Legend of
Sleepy Hollow. During the time Irving was writing Rip Van Winkle, Americans were fascinated with
the Romanticism Era. The era was known for literature that emphasized emotions and they lived to
read about past events. No one had ever tried to link America s history to fictional literature. Irving
successively wrote a short story based on the German folktale Peter Klaus the Goatherd. Although
Irving s story had striking similarities with the folktale, he fused history of the American Revolution
with the old imaginative literature. Irving used the story of Rip to symbolize the struggles Americans
faced before and after the Revolutionary War. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ironically, he was born two weeks before Congress approved the peace treaty ending the American
Revolution. He later became famous for writing a short story based on the American Revolution. He
was the first author to use America s history in fictional literature. Because of this, he became widely
famous and American s loved the story because they liked to reminisce about the past and also liked
that his American tales used fantasy, nostalgia, and confidence games to heal partisan conflicts of the
post revolutionary and early republican periods that had festered up through the War of 1812. (3) He
wrote, Rip Van Winkle at a time when he had been living in Europe for quite some time and
Americans were starting to question his work as being very Europeanized. He probably decided to
write the short story and include America s history to remind people of his American identity and to

47. Seven Year Itch
In the film The Seven Year Itch , Richard Sherman, the main character, reflects many examples of
Freud s psychoanalytic theory. The film is based around a married man, who sends his wife and son to
Maine for the summer, but suddenly becomes attracted to a much younger, stunning woman who
moves into the apartment above him. Throughout the entirety of the film, Sherman displays a plethora
of components of personality and defense mechanisms that align with the psychoanalytic theory that
includes rationalization, projection, and repression. Sherman must combat both his sinister Id and
many poor excuses for his vile behavior before anyone finds out about his froundupon fling. Richards
wife gives him three rules to follow for when she is gone. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of repression would be when Richard trips over ricky s toy, and blurts his name out as if it
is his fault for him tripping, when it is really his own fault for tripping because he was oblivious to the
fact the toy was there. His mind was probably somewhere else, thinking about the girl upstairs. This is
repression because he obviously has issues with Ricky deep down, maybe between his attitude and
him not cleaning his toys up, but his problems with him are bubbling out little by

48. Diagnosing Learning Disabilities
In the United States today, 38% of children in the fourth grade have been recognized as reading way
below the level of their peers. Many of these children are identified with a learning disability and
receive remedial instruction in the resource rooms. (Aaron, P. G., Joshi, R., Gooden, R., Rentum, K.
E.) The Diagnostic Criteria for learning disabilities (according to the DSM V) is a specific learning
disorder which is diagnosed through an examination of the child s developmental, educational,
medical and responses of various interventions that have been tried. The diagnosis is a constant
difficulty in reading, writing, and arithmetic during the years of schooling. Symptoms can include
imprecise or slow reading, writing that lacks clarity and content, and difficulty remembering
mathematical reason and number facts. The academic level must be significantly below average in all
areas; and the child s difficulties cannot be explained by any other disorders and it has to interfere
greatly with academic achievement, performance and daily living. Dyslexia is classified as an
impairment of reading and spelling which cannot be caused by low intelligence or a cognitive delay.
Reading disorder is classified as an extreme reduced speed in reading. Children with reading disorders
find it difficult to comprehend what they have read because of the speed that they are reading. They
tend to confuse similar sounding words and similar letters. Therefore it is so important to receive a

49. The Industrial Revolution Of Maryland By Lewis W. Hine And...
Following the end of the American Civil war, the Industrial Revolution came rushing in and brought
with it tremendous changes the mechanization of agriculture, the invention of steam and electricity
used machinery led to mass production factories, and the emergence of a massive railroad system.
Change in the economy and society brought great wealth to the United States. Consequently, it was a
giant magnet for immigrations. However, the distribution of wealth across the population was not
even. The American working class in the last half of nineteenth century suffered from poverty and
oppression. Several documentations and stories were written in response to the people suffering. Two
of them Child Labor in The Canning Industry of Maryland by Lewis W. Hine and Maggie: A Girl of
The Streets by Stephen Crane vividly described the living and working conditions for the working
poor. In the period of 1860 1900, the majority of the working class, including native born and
immigrants, clustered in two largest industrial areas: the North East industrial cities and the West
agriculture farms. In the West, agricultures were dominated by land and railroad companies. Although
the farming industry grew simultaneously, workers life did not improve. In fact, they faced many
hardships such as severe oppression from their owners, unfair payment for their work, and serious lack
of education for their children. In his 1909 report, Lewis H. Hine revealed the harsh working condition
