Zone Of Proximal Development Paper
1) The Zone of Proximal Development. Please add two examples applying this concept to schooling.
The Zone of Proximal Development is where the skill set taught to the child is much higher than
the child s skill set. It also refers to the ability of children to master a task either on their own or
with help. It describes the difficulty of a task ranging from a kid who gets it right away to
someone who could not master the task without several weeks of assistance.
Vygotsky felt that the child s current sociocultural environment played a strong role in how well
they learned and language plays a strong role in shaping their thoughts. He also felt that the teacher
should guide the student and that other students should be used as part of the teaching ... Show more

Actually right now, I want to think aloud, but the fact that my husband is in the other room, means
I cannot. Because of that of that, I will edit and go over this tomorrow when he is not here. I
believe private speech is an important aspect of learning in all stages of development. Try to watch
yourself when you are trying to solve a difficult problem and I beat you think aloud. It is not just
for young children.
When you are writing a paper, reading the paper aloud is the best way to proofread your paper. I
also like thinking quietly since I can think faster than I can talk, so often times I will do silent
thinking.
3) Vygotsky and education. How important is education and what is the primary school teacher s
role?
Education is very important and the primary teacher s role plays a large part in how well a child
learns. She should be a guide to the students and not be a dictator. Meaning she show them how to
do things in a step by step process so they can eventually perform these task on their own. Early
education sets the stage for learning in later years and is a very important aspect of child
development.
4) Do you think Piaget s theory or Vygotsky s theory would be more helpful in teaching? Explain
and add several examples.
Both have theories that are helpful when teaching young children new

Twin Cancer Studies
Cancer has been around for longer than people expect, with the first documented case dating back
to 1500 bc. Because of the complexity of tumors, the origin of the disease was unknown until the
late 19th century and the search for treatment or a cure came even later. The 20th century saw the
greatest progression of cancerresearch, with twins being crucial to such studies. Twinstudies were
used as an important method in the field of cancer study.
Scientists and researchers did not pay particular attention to twins and zygosity before the 20th
century. One of the earliest and the simplest of assessments was based on the question, Were you

that zygosity of twins play a minimal role in the causation of most types of cancer (3). This further

the development of cancer, than the genetic makeup of humans does not affect the development of

Personal Statement On Life s Hustle And Bustle
In life s hustle and bustle sometimes it s easy to get lost in the whole process leaving you
wondering is your life leading you instead of you leading it. I needed to find some personal
fulfillment in my life. So I had to do a self check to discover what my true purpose was in this
life. How impactful was I in changing the world. I was completely satisfied raising my son and
being engaged in everything he was involved in. However, the closer it came for him to graduate
from high school the more I began to think about what my new life would be like. I had to deal
with the persisting question of what did I want to do with the rest of my life. Overall, I felt like I
was a pretty decent mother, an awesome friend, a loving sister and I have a faith based foundation.
Even with all those great attributes I still didn t know what my true purpose was here on earth.
When I think of the questions easily, the first thing I thought of was philanthropy. Living a
healthy lifestyle would be next. I m very excited about getting the chance to expound on my
future in leadership and mentoring rolls. Next, I want to explore what full potential and purpose
is and how can I be a positive impact on the world. At this stage of my life I feel that it says Yes to:
being a philanthropist, having a health and wellness for my body and soul as well as being involved
in leadership and mentoring.
Philanthropy was an easy choice for me because it s something that I ve been doing for quite some

1.1 Introduction
In order to achieve political, economic and personal advancement, the internet has played a major
role in it. The internet, according to Wikipedia, has many uses that include data sharing, e
commerce, booking of tickets, socializing, job searching, entertainment and also in e learning. With
advancements in technology, the number of users of the internet are increasing daily. With internet
speed increasing over time, the Internet brings knowledge and information on nearly every subject
imaginable straight to your computer. This has made our lives easier and more efficient. Though
the internet has many advantages, it has brought a lot of negative impact to our society.
1.2 Definition of the internet
The word Internet comes from the words Interconnection of Networks (Greenfield, 1999).
According to One book projects, the Internet is a worldwide interconnection of computer networks
that transmit information from one place to another using the standard Internet Protocol. It is also
knwn as the Net.
In order to understand how the internet has an impact to our day to day lives, one needs to

Thesis For 13 Reasons Why
In the book, 13 Reasons Why, a girl name Hannah Baker mailed out tapes to a specific group of
people. If you received these tapes you were not in a good position. If you didn t listen to these
tapes, you were not starting off right. Reason being is because you are one of the reasons
Hannah committed suicide. Clay Jensen is one of the people who received the tapes. Unlike
most people, he wanted to know why she did it. He followed the map that was given to him
previously, before the tapes were mailed out. Throughout the book, his journey was to see what
happened, how it happened and who caused it. Clay Jensen, the protagonist of 13 reasons why by

Clay thinks you shouldn t judge a book by it s cover and that s what people did to his dear
hearted love, Hannah Baker. Clay never noticed how sad and disgusted Hannah was with the
way she was treated. He just assumed the rumors were true, but he never rubbed it in her face.
Jensen felt that people go through stuff in everyday life, so you should never treat people
wrong. For an example, Clay explains how he wished he could be there for her during desperate
times. pg 167. He gets upset when he hears people discussing hannah with provocative language
and actions. Clay is a good person and he doesn t understand how people can do such things to
one another. Hannah Baker goes through so much and he wish had the guts to go help her out.

the fact he was close to being a valedictorian he couldn t do much because it would ruin his image.

Narcissistic Personality Inventory
Narcissism is a trait described as having feelings of self love and self admiration, a general
defensive orientation, and a constellation of attitudes that characterize a person s relationships with
others such as feelings of entitlement involving the expectation of special privileges over others,
special exemptions from normal social demands, suspiciousness, and jealousy (Raskin Terry, 1988,
p. 890). The Narcissistic Personality Inventory (NPI) is the measure most commonly used to assess
these traits of narcissismin one s personality. When taking this measure I scored a 5, where the
average score is 15.3, a low score is considered one close to 8.5, and an extremely low score is a 2

Blincoe, Dewall, Gilbert, Haak, Keller and Widiger (2014) conducted a study to examine the
affiliation between narcissism and conflict behaviors within a romantic dyad in order to explain
four hypotheses: individual narcissism will be associated with partner narcissism, greater
narcissism will be related to self conflict behaviors, greater narcissism will be related to partners
negative conflict behaviors, and male and female narcissism will interact (Keller et al., 2014, p.
34 39). This study was conducted by collecting data from 190 college student couples where
measures of narcissism, level of conflict in their relationship, and depressive symptoms to use as a
control variable for results, were taken. Subsets of couples were then asked to participate in a
competitive reaction time task to behaviorally assess aggressive tendencies towards their partner
during conflict. It was found that the four hypotheses had supporting data that agreed with each;
the first being that there is significant relation of narcissistic traits between males and females in a
relationship, which could be due to the tendency to choose partners that have similar qualities and
beliefs as you. The second being that narcissism is directly related to a person s negative behavior
within a relationship, the third that narcissists are more likely to be victimized by their

Effects Of English Language Proficiency
PROBLEM SOLUTION ESSAY
English Language Proficiency
English Language proficiency is the ability of an individual to speak or perform in English
Language. English Language is a compulsory subject in both primary and secondary schools in
Malaysia. For those local undergraduates who plan to pursue their tertiary education at
Malaysian universities, they are required to register a stipulated credit hour of English courses
based on the result of their Malaysian University English Test (MUET), which is an English
proficiency assessment course. According to Wall Street Journal, there is only 0.00002%, which
is 2 out of 100,000 candidates scoring band 6 or excellent in Malaysian University English Test

Conversion is percentage (number) of applicants that are admitted.
Closure is percentage (number) of admits who enroll.
Applicant stage is the first and very important point in the enrollment funnel for which sufficient
data are present and known. Two jobs ago, I worked at Conestoga College in Kitchener and details
how application process works are known to me. Also, in research was used article from WLU
Core newspaper from July 16, 2014. In present school system, by the end of February up to 80% of
all applicant data will be at University s disposal, including admissions decisions, financial aid and
awards that will be processed at various offices.
Then, I appologized to both of them before asking this very blunt question:

It means that acceptance letters were sent to 1112 students. Last year closure rate was 20% for
the same 200 spots. It means that acceptance letters were sent to 1000 students last year. So,
wrong conclusion was achieved: technically, yes closure rate was lower this year but all available
spots were filled anyway without sacrificing quality. (The other question that could be asked is:
are they willing (or able) to expand and teach more students?) However, no matter how data were
understood, the research could not be stopped at this point and more questions were asked (again
followed by answers), but some of them were requiring conducting observational research and
surveys:
1)How to feed funnel of University of Kitchener?
No enrollment is possible without adequate inquiries Inquiry pool has to be large enough to sustain
the growth.
Identifying Target Markets:
A) Adjust applicant pool in such a way to ultimately enroll the students that meet your strategic
goals.
B) Population projections (e.g., high school grads by city/region/province)
C) High school market research (identify target schools that graduate the type of students you want;

Diane Ackerman s Poem
Reading Diane Ackerman s piece was an interesting experience. I love science, so reading the
really technical parts about how skin works, how growth is affected by human touch, and how
smell is registered in the brain was fascinating to me. It is all interwoven with paragraphs filled
with vivid imagery of the way violets smell: like burnt sugar cubes that have been dipped in lemon
and velvet (Smell, p 9) and the way the Japanese tattoo looks: subtle, repulsive, magical, seductive,
sensuous, three dimensional, thought provoking, and macabre (Touch, p 100). The combination of
intense bouts of scientific information and descriptive examples make for excellent reading. My
favorite hot spot was where Ackerman talks about premature babies.... Show more content on

Individuals with diabetes most often die of cardiovascular disease (CVD) rather than from a cause
uniquely related to diabetes, such as ketoacidosis or hypoglycemia2,3. Diabetic patients have a

Eviction
What s more important, food or shelter? This is the hard question many mothers have to ask
themselves every month when the rent is due. In low income, primarily black neighborhoods, this
is especially prevalent. The cost of living has greatly increased in urban areas like Milwaukee, but
government benefits are staying the same, creating a gap that cannot be easily filled. Because of
this, many black women with children have to pick between feeding their families and paying their
bills, like rent, gas, and water. The majority of mothers choose to feed their children over paying
rent, and this often results in evictionwhen their debt grows too large. The black community is

Children who grow up in low income houses are often teased and ridiculed by peers for not
having the newest clothing, toys, etc., for not having a father at home, and for living in poor
conditions, public housing, or homeless shelters. This bullying usually results in low self esteem
and depression, as well as the higher risk for poor health. These children are also more likely to
have learning difficulties, as well as the behavioral, social, and emotional problems that come with
being raised in a low income household ( Child Development ).
So why don t these poor, black women just get help? Because they don t qualify for assistance, or
they simply can t wait around that long to receive it. Wait times for public housing can range
from 1 2 years to upwards of 10, and after going through all of the paperwork and legal trouble,
only 25% of families who qualify for public housing ever receive it; the rest are struggling along in
the private market, being refused housing by dozens of landlords. Through this, evictions often
encourage economic disadvantage and social suffering in America s urban centers, such as

Melting Pot Ideology In America
Many Americans assume that the concept of actually forming the melting pot ideology in America
would be easy to obtain, that combining various cultures wouldn t be that much of a challenge.
However, an attempt to completely bring this ideology into society can cause problems among the
population. With the rising tension between races in America with recent events, such as the race
riots in Ferguson, Missouri, trying to incorporate different aspects of cultures would cause an
explosion of hate crimes and racism due to the differences between them. The Melting Potcultureis
one where several different cultures come together and adopt other parts into one single society.

Pozner writes The Lubriderm photo shoot illustrates how the advertising industry s long held
racial essentialism influences the depiction of people of color in product placement driven
reality TV. This quote shows that the media, like the photo shoot, will put people in situations
that portray them in a stereotypical manner for the sake of a profit. Also, Television Shows, like
America s Next Top Model, will use the stereotypes in each race to cause the drama shown. This
promotes the idea that a certain race is going to act a certain way, and may make someone or a
certain race feel like they are in a box and are suppose to behave in a particular manner according
to the stereotypes. This can create a divide among the different cultures due to the feeling that they
behave in certain ways, such as the angry black woman or the spicy latina. The equivalent of these
television shows happens in movies and social media with how they portray the certain
stereotypes. Television shows and movies have the ability change and decide to break away from
the stereotypes that they use , instead of promoting the drama coming from that. However, the issue
of making that change is the ratings may decrease dramatically because their audiences are
accustomed to a certain level of drama and

The Importance Of Technology On Society
Today s society is more affected by technology than it ever has been and it is changing every
second of every day. Advancements in technology have been changing our culture and society for
hundreds of years; from hunters and gatherers to information overload to a future of the most
advanced technologies we could imagine. These fast advancements in technology quickly change
our society. This statement was greatly expanded upon by three people: Gerhard Lenski, Leslie
White, and Alvin Toffler
Gerhard Lenski is a sociologist. He is mostly known for his contributions to sociology of religion,
ecological evolutionary social theory, and social inequality. He believed that technological
advancement is the most basic factor in evolution of societies and cultures. Lenski focusses on the
changes that happen as a society acquires new technology. He believed that the more technological
information that a society has, the faster it will change. He labels five types of societies based on
their levels of technology. The first of these societies are the hunting and gathering societies. These
societies use simple tools to hunt animals and gather their food and vegetation. Lenski stated that at
this level, groups are small, scattered, and usually nomadic, leading to fairly inefficient food
production. The next society would be the horticultural and pastoral societies. This society bases
technology on the use of hand tools to raise crops. Pastoralism is technology that supports the

Traditional Medicine And Chinese Medicine
The Chinese world today carries with it, an air of mystery; which the Chinese civilization gathered
over long periods of time. Their philosophy about life and the methods used in traditional medicine
practice constitutes a significant part of Chinese civilization s history. Part of this traditional
medicine, with deep roots in Chinese culture, is the cupping therapy; which has been successfully
applied since ancient times and has immediate positive effects. In general when people think of
traditional Chinese medicine, the first thing that comes to mind is probably acupunctureor the use of

Therefore before discussing in detail the Chinese cupping therapy is imperative to understand the
philosophical elements behind the traditional Chinese medicine. These philosophical elements that
gave rise to the development of traditional Chinese Medicine are as follow: essential Qi, Yin Yang
and the Five Elements. (China.org.cn)
The essential Qi, in traditional Chinese medicine is classified in two categories: normal Qi and
the evil Qi. While the normal Qi is part inborn, part inherited from parents and part acquired
through food essence and the air, therefore essential for daily life activities and body s resistance
against disease; on the other hand the evil Qi is very harmful to health. The explanation for evil
Qi being harmful to health is that it comprises of various pathogenic factors such as: excessive
wind, cold or heat. All these abnormal atmospheric changes are considered being the evil Qi. Thus,
in this context, disease is defined as being a process of struggle between the normal Qi and the evil
Qi. The Yellow Emperor s Classic of Internal Medicine book explains Qi by saying: If genuine qi
prevails, attack of evil qi never avails. Since Qi is said to be invisible and its role is to act as the
motive force in support for all kinds of life activities, the word Qi itself, in traditional Chinese
medicine is translated into English as vital energy .

High Tuition Cost Research Paper
How are students able to afford these high tuition cost? Majority of students are forced to find
any sort of work to earn income. The problem is that balancing school, work, and a personal life,
is physically and mentally draining. I know from experience that working a part time job,
studying hard to keep up a 3.8 GPA, and taking care my family is a struggle. Many of my friends
who were attending collegehad to drop out because they could not afford these high tuition cost and
balance having a job and going to school. Since schools have no choice but to raise tuition, there are
three main areas that should be taking into consideration to help students afford college. If the

FAFSA is one of the main sources that students apply for to receive federal student aid. However,
there are a lot of students like myself who are not qualified to receive financial aid and are only
eligible to take out loans. My high school teachers had told me that they are still paying their
student loans because other bills come up which result in having to extend their loan payment.
Making an extension to loans means that there is a chance of paying an charge interest which
basically means the longer it takes to pay, the more money you have to owe. Also, students who
have grown up in a middle class family are seen as being able to afford college. However, in
today s society, there are some middle class families that can not afford college because they do
not have the extra money. One of the main issue on the FAFSA is being considered an
independent student because it does not mean that they are responsible for paying their own
education expenses. Also, according to fastweb (2013) it states that students Not living with

Virginia Woolf Suicide In The Waves
Consumed: Reflections of Virginia Woolf within The Waves Virginia Woolf committed suicide
just ten years after the publication of her novel The Waves. Throughout her life she struggled
with bipolar disorder, anxiety, self imposed isolation, misdiagnosis of her illnesses, repressed or
closeted homosexuality in a time when being gay was illegal, and the deaths of many who she
cared deeply for. Louise DeSalvo wrote a book on the life of Virginia Woolf
and described the
pattern that much of her childhood followed, Sexual violence. Hopeless sadness. Powerlessness.

A cathartic moment in The Waves is when the characters learn of Percival s death. Throughout
the book, he symbolizes perfection and stability for many of the characters. He was the person
who held them all together, so when he dies they each must learn to cope with the fragility of
life. Neville sits below a tree refusing to move on and accept the truth that he is gone, Bernard is
numb with guilt as he should be happy for his newborn son but all he feels is sadness for
Percival, and Rhoda throws flowers into the sea for him and contemplates if her own life is worth
living. Each point of view evokes intense feelings of sympathy and perhaps even empathy in the
readers, communicating that this moment is cathartic. At the age of 13, Virginia Woolf also had to
learn to cope with life s insecurities.
The sudden death of her mother threw Virginia into her first major depressive episode and
devastated her entire family. Her father was especially heartbroken and Virginia s siblings had
to take care of him as if he were a child. Just two years later, Stella, Virginia s older sister died and
shortly thereafter her father passed away as well causing another mental breakdown for Woolf.
Once she was able to recover, she began her writing career, closely followed, however, by the
death of her charming and charismatic older brother Thoby, that would someday inspire the

Christmas Carol Essay
Christmas Carol
How does Charles Dickens convey the character of scrooge in the early pages of a Christmas Carol?
Charles Dickens, is best known for his host of distinctively cruel, repugnant characters.
His father was sent to a Debtors prison taken his son Charles with him maybe this is where some
of the ideas for characters came from. After a few years, Dickens left the prison to work in a
blacking factory.
Dickens started writing in prosperous Victorian England, where only the rich were cared for. He
grew up seeing what the poor people had to experience and how they had to live in this world.
The technique the writer uses is of a physical appearance. Describing
Scrooge he gives the readers an idea of what he looks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author tells us directly what Scrooge is,
A tight fisted hand at the grindstone. Scrooge! A squeezing, wrenching, grasping, scraping,
clutching, covetous old sinner.
This is a very good description by Dickens showing us how horrible
Scrooge is, Dickens doesn t stop after a few lines he continues until the reader clearly gets the point.
To express Scrooge s meanness Dickens uses harsh words saying that
Scrooge liked to edge his way along the crowded paths of life, warning all human sympathy to keep
its distance.
This shows that the human race didn t like Scrooge.
The author describes Scrooge by putting plenty of feelings into the lines. Dickens describes
Scrooge with feeling in the line,
Oh! But he was a tight fisted hand at the grindstone.
This suggests that Scrooge makes people work very hard and doesn t give them a lot in return.
Another way Dickens uses to dramatise Scrooge s unpleasantness is by showing how the other
characters react to him and him to them. If he is asked a question the answer is always No. He
never reacts with kindness or politeness to other characters. Scrooge s nephew is one of the few
characters who makes an effort to be pleasant to him, but
Scrooge is always nasty to him. When Christmas is mentioned Scrooge becomes especially cross.
The time that Dickens has chosen, Christmas, is perfect for showing just how mean and nasty
Scrooge is. Scrooge hates Christmas and he also hates to see

It also received a lot of criticism for its design and was even called metal asparagus .
It took 132 workers 2 years, 2 months and 5 days to complete the project. Despite the riskiest
design to construct, due to all the safety measures being taken, only 1 man died, during the
installation of the elevators, which travel at a 60 degree curve. The men used 18,038 pieces of
wrought iron and 2.5 million rivets to build the 1023 ft. height monument which weighs 10,100

tallest building in the world for over 40 years, before the Chrysler Building in New York City was
built in 1930. The original design housed an apartment for Gustave Eiffel at the very top of the
tower. McCollum writes, The sky high hideaway had plush rugs, oil paintings, and even a grand
piano (22). The paint on the tower gets changed every 7 years and weighs as much as 10

the tower. The lifts operating the tower travel over two and a half times the circumference of Earth

What Is The Theme Of Sailing To Byzantium
The poem by W. B. Yeats is considered one of the greatest poems in the English language and
quite frankly, it s very understandable to why it is. He speaks up about growing old in this
poem and he brings up how as you get older, people tend to realize that the world is for young
people and that old people are just around, watching as the younger generation makes the world
the way it is. Sailing To Byzantium is one of the more well known poems that point out that as
you get older, a person begins to realize what is actually going on and that the world isn t really
meant for the old and more so the young. In the poem, Sailing To Byzantium, the three messages
that were the most pointed out is wisdom comes with age, the world is for the young and... Show

With this message, Yeats points out that you don t learn by sitting around and not doing much,
you learn more by listening. Whether you re listening to an older family member or a teacher,
or an adult in general, the young only learn by listening and doing. Sailing to Byzantium may
make us feel that pure mind, although compelling, is not sufficient explanation (Steinman,
Michael. Yeat s Sailing to Byzantium. ) Though someone might have a pure mind and do their
own thing, they won t learn from doing that as well as they would by listening. Yes, they will
learn from their mistakes but if they don t listen to someone else that may want to help them,
they won t fully learn from anything. Monuments of its own magnificence (Page 1147 line 16),
Everyone learns from their own life but they also learn from what others have to say to them.
Listening to others can definitely allow a person to learn more because they either went through
something that they were able to learn from or they just have so great advice and is always
willing to help. Sailing to Byzantium is full of echoes of Yeats s other works, of his reading, and
of his experiences. (Ellmann, Richard. Sailing to Byzantium. . ), Yeats was able to learn by
listening to write this poem, whether it was from his other works or if it was from other people
helping him out. Yeats wanted to point out to the reader that everyone learns by listening,

Externalization In Mire
From Kumare we have seen how a religion or a set of beliefs can be created and maintained from

little group. Form the film we learn that he made up or used previously created rituals to synthesis
his very own brand of religion. Using externalization, objectivation, and internalization as a basis
into the Kumare film, we see how his own religion was constructed socially by himself and more
importantly his disciples. Externalization is the continuing of the perception into the world, both in
the physical and mental sense. This is the process

A Community Mental Health Team While Working With A Client...
Introduction
This literature review and research proposal was motivated following a practice placement with a
Community Mental Health Team while working with a client with Generalised Anxiety Disorder
(GAD). GAD is a long term condition that causes someone to feel anxious about a wide range of
situations and issues, rather than one specific event. GAD is a common mental health condition
affecting 1 in every 25 people in the United Kingdom, its prevalence is slightly more among
women than men and individuals between the ages of 35 and 55 (NHSChoices, 2014). People
with GAD feel anxious most days and often struggle to remember the last time they felt relaxed
(NHSChoices, 2014). Feeling anxious is a normal response to stressful experiences, however when
anxiety is prolonged, inappropriate, and/or overwhelming to the point that it impacts on
functioning, it becomes a pathological disorder (Davis, 2011). The anxiety, worry, or physical
symptoms cause significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas
of functioning (APA, 2000). Studies have shown that GAD is more impairing than other anxiety
disorders (Hoffmann et al., 2009); and people afflicted with GAD have reported significantly less
satisfaction with their quality of life in particular in the domains of self esteem, goals and values,
money, work, play, learning, creativity, friends and family (Henning et al., 2007). Thus GAD has a
disabling impact on an individual s occupation performance

Dehumanization In The Beast People
The cover of the Broadview Edition of The Island of Doctor Moreau shows someone prying a
dog s mouth open with his hands. Perhaps he wants to see the inside of its mouth, remove its
sharp teeth, or even make it speak, yet the dog seems to be resisting his effort. This image
echoes a few ideas presented in the novel, such as the creation of the Beast People, the torturing
of animals, and their bestial nature. In the novel, Moreau refers to the vivisection of animals as a
humanizing process (120) because he wants to transform animals into humans. However, the
Beast People and undergo an ongoing process of humanization and dehumanization, showing
that whatever state they were made for is not permanent. H.G. Wells suggests a definition of
humanity through Moreau s philosophy of pain and reasoning, but the dehumanization of the
Beast People and humans suggest that this philosophy is not viable. In order to discuss the
humanizing and dehumanizing processes, we must first acknowledge Moreau s definition of
humanity. In his explanation of vivisection to Prendick, he associates pain with beasts: This
store which men and women set on pain, Prendick, is the mark of the beast upon them the mark
of the beast from which they came! Pain, pain and pleasure, they are for us only so long as we
wriggle in the dust. (127) As long as beasts are motivated by pain, they will always be inferior to
men. Moreau also says: Then with men, the more intelligent they become, the more intelligently
they will see after their own welfare, and the less they will need the goad to keep them out of
danger... And pain gets needless. (127) Moreau s definition of humanity is a creature that is not
driven by pain, and uses reasoning to take rational action. In order to rid animals of their bestial
nature, he tries to transform their mental structure by superseding old inherent instincts by new
suggestions, grafting upon or replacing the inherited fixed ideas (125). On the other hand, he also
acknowledges the physical differences of humans and animals, such as a monkey s incapacity to
speak due to the lack of a larynx. (125) Through vivisection, he is able to alter animals physical
characteristics to resemble humans. In order to create the ideal

Hydrogen Cells In Chloroplasts
Hydrogen ion gradients play a role in cellular respiration in the mitochondria an in photosynthesis in
the chloroplasts (Wikipedia, n.d.). During cellular respiration, it is important to know, that
hydrogen ions are pumped out of the matrix or out of the cytoplasm and that this creates a
concentration gradient, which forces hydrogen ions back into the matrix or cytoplasm and forces
ATP synthase into action. Therefore, hydrogen ions move across a semipermeable membrane to an
electrochemical gradient. This hydrogen ion gradient is often used to create chemical reactions,
furthermore, hydrogen ions diffuse from an area of high concentration to an area of low
concentration. When they diffuse, an electrochemical concentration gradient can be captured to
make ATP.

Furthermore, ions pass through the membrane and they use energy to assist with the making of
ATP. Therefore, this generates ATP in the mitochondria and in the chloroplasts. Hydrogen ions are
pumped through the thylakoid membranes, and this creates energy that allows the hydrogen ions to
pass through. Consequently, a hydrogen ion force is generated by an electron transport chain,
which acts as a pump, and it pumps hydrogen ions throughout the membrane (Wikipedia, n.d.) The
electrical charge is separated, and in the mitochondria, energy is released by the electron transport
chain. This energy is used to move hydrogen ions from the mitochondrial matrix to the stroma.
Therefore, hydrogen ions change inside the membrane. They move from a higher concentration to a
lower concentration. Moreover, glucose is completely broken down and eventually stored for

Jefferson Vs Hamilton Essay
Following the ratification of the Constitution in 1788, the 1790s in the United States was a period
of unrest that characterized a new country with little experience. A partisan divide was formed
during this time period, due to the establishment of Hamilton s plan which resulted in conflict of
interest between Federalists and Republicans, the U.S involvement within the French and British
conflict, and the domestic affairs that dominated Adam s presidency. While each issue had strong
opposition, the true problem was rooted in a government that was more focused on combating
tyranny, rather than finding resolutions to the conflicts at hand. Alexander Hamilton was the
secretary of treasury during Washington s presidency. In 1790, Hamilton established a five step
program that essentially privatized the state treasury, and validated stronger bonds in industry based
foreign trade. This policy had support from merchants, manufacturers and financiers, but not small
farmers, headed by Jefferson and Madison, who wanted the U.S to stay agrarian and expand
Westward. From these two ideals sprouted partisan politics; Federalists under Hamilton, and
Republicans under Jefferson and Madison. The U.S Founders were primarily focused on preventing
the abuse of power when creating the Constitution, and thus there was no method to resolving the
conflict that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Impact Of Tajikistan On The United States Of The...
Tajikistan gained its independence from the Soviet Union in 1991 and in its short life has already
seen considerable amounts of turmoil. When it was first declared a sovereign nation it was
plunged very quickly in to civil war. The war led to a quick decline in the nation s economy. This
war crippled the nation leaving Tajikistanvery weak in the June of 1997 when the war finally drew
to a close. This civil war weakened Tajikistan s legitimate economy and left many people to rely
on the revenues of illicit opiate trade . Tajikistan is slowly recovering from the effects of becoming
a new nation, plagued with war and drugproblems early in its life, and this requires the government
to find a way to end the drug usage and distribution problem that grips the country along with the
corruption of the state in an attempt to improve the economy and living conditions of Tajikistan.
There are many contributing factors to the perfect storm of sorts that lead to the rapid increase in
Tajikistan s status as a drug state. One of the most important of these is the proximity of Tajikistan
to Afghanistan. This proximity allowed for Afghanistan to take advantage of Tajikistan in the
midst of civil unrest giving the people of the poverty stricken economy an easy way to make quick
money. This was made easier for Afghanistan by Tajikistan s lack of border regulations, allowing
drugs to easily be transferred between the two countries. Afghanistan shares a 1,200 km border with

Comparing France and Us Criminal Justice System Essay
There many different criminal justice systems in the world today. Some that consists of many of

systems. The aspects that I will be comparing are police, courts, the legal profession, legal

Another difference between the two countries is their court system. France does not practice
judicial review. In the United States, the Supreme Court has the principle responsibility of ruling on
the constitutionality of all laws. This kind of judicial review is not practiced in France (Terrill 232).
In France they have the Constitutional council which has nine members serving a nine year term,
they are responsible for election complaints and the legislation made in parliament. The advantage
of this is that it reduces the conflict of jurisdictions. But the disadvantage is that our Supreme Court
has a longer term than the Constitutional Council which allows more constant laws and fewer laws
that will contradict each other.
The aspect of legal profession and legal education is also extremely different. To become a judge
in France you must first obtain a law degree from a university law school. Next you must gain
admission to the National School for the Judiciary at Bordeaux (Terrill 236). After completing
this school, the candidate is now qualified to become a judge. The French system allows judges
to begin their profession at an early age which could be a disadvantage because of lack of
experience in the system, where judges in the United States are usually older and more
knowledgeable.
The legal education is noticeably different from America. In France, students enter a university

head were this movie is excellent. This genre of this film can be described as drama, there are
many emotions this film highlights such as, jealousy and anger. For the purpose of reviewing this

lots of good ideas and is good at putting them together. Sam is talkative and good at gathering
ideas. Jacob is a good listener and able to summarize at the end of a meeting.
Transition:
Now that you know a little about being able to work together,
let s look at coming up with better thoughts than an individual will come up with.
II. Students can see how different perspectives, constructive deliberation, questioning, and critical
analysis can result in better solutions and performance. If students take an exam individually and
then do the same exam as a group, the group exam score is almost always higher because students
share what they know, debate the answers, and through that process can often find their way to the

The Shia Branch
Last but not least is a religion that has about one point five billion followers and is the purest of
the western monotheisms, Islam. Most of the people who follow Islam are located in Indonesia.
The meaning of Islam stands for submission, in Islam people are too submit themselves to God.
Islam is monotheistic because they believe in one God, which Allah is believed to be the God
while a man named Muhammadis Gods prophet. Muhammad was known to spread the message
of monotheism while many people were still polytheistic. He fled to to a city called Medina to
escape persecution. This was a huge event for the religion and was the start of the first year of the

What I mean when I say totally different is that the Sunni branch is more optimistic while the Shia
branch leans more towards pessimism. The Sunni branch is the largest and it takes up about eighty
five percent of Muslims leaving the Shia branch with only fifteen percent. The main issue of the
branches is that they didn t both agree on who should lead the community after Muhammad passed.
The Sunni branch believed it should have been a group decision on who takes charge next, while
the Shia did not agree with that and they thought that it should have went to Muhammad s cousin,
Ali. The Shia is also all about free will and symbolism rather than determinism and literal attributes
like Sunni. Its hard to believe groups like Al Qaeda that committed the nine eleven terrorism
attacks are apart of the Sunni branch and not the Shia since we consider these attacks harshly
negative and definitely not positive. Not all Muslims are terrorists though, that was just one
example of the two different branches of Islam that I discussed. Above are the most important
factors that influence the religion of Islam and the way of life of the Muslim

Selfishness In Kate Chopin s A Pair Of Silk Stockings
Selfishness is not living as one wishes to live, it is asking others to live as one wishes to live.
This quote by Oscar Wilde is relative to the actions of Mrs.Sommers, considering her children
and the state in which her family lives in. In A Pair of Silk Stockings, by Kate Chopin, a mother
of at least four children temporarily escapes the hardships of motherhood for a day and enjoys
long missed extravagance. She was formerly a woman of luxury, and when she acquires a large
amount of money, she decides to rediscover the world of riches. Her actions are selfish in doing
so, because her familyis not in a stable condition, she is a mother of several children, and she does
not deserve this opulent treatment. Mrs.Sommers s family is not

The Purpose Of Collective Memory In The United States
Political communities, nations and/states, have been formed from shared territory, a constitution,
and perhaps most importantly through a collective memory. Memory is traditionally understood as
a way of maintaining information, typically a personal and individual affair. But collective
memory serves a purpose of connecting the some past experience of a group of individuals to the
present to form a narrative. Identityclaims, when pushed, characteristically seek something else: to
establish the sameness, the continuity, of a person or community across time and in the face of
apparent change (Booth 1999, p.249). Memory can be a dividing or uniting tool, it split
communities into various shared identities, sometimes aligning with state lines

Teen Pregnancy And Teenage Pregnancy
Teen pregnancy is something that affects over one million young teens in the United States. For
some, these pregnancies are planned but 85% of these teens the pregnancy is unplanned. This can
cause a lot of endless problems in the life of the teen and the newborn child. There are a lot of
things that can cause an unplanned teen pregnancy, such as teens experimenting with sexual
encounters at a young age. Another major cause is the lack of guidance due to guardians that are
blind or do not want to believe in such activities. These causes can have devastating effects on the
teen and the newborn in the household. Some effects of early pregnancy will include an
unexpected rise of responsibility for the teen and can cause many health concerns for both teen and
newborn child.
Teens experimenting are the leading cause in the unplanned pregnancies. As a teenager in high
school ages there are a lot of peer pressures. Such as experimenting with alcohol and unprotected
sexual intercourse. Drinking and the use of narcotics also largely have an impact on the judgment
of the teen before the pre pregnancy comes about. Experimenting can cause many effects on the
teen and the relationships at hand, including the relationships with the baby s mom or dad and also
the parents of the teens. Another way of experimenting is the pregnancy caused in the sequel of
either a long time dating of the boyfriend or the other case of those random one night stands or
hook ups. Experimenting can be well

The Zone of Proximal Development is where the skill set taught to the child is much higher than the child s skill set. It also refers to the ability of children to master a task either on their own or with help. It describes the difficulty of a task ranging from a kid who gets it right away to someone who could not master the task without several weeks of assistance. Vygotsky felt that the child s current sociocultural environment played a strong role in how well they learned and language plays a strong role in shaping their thoughts. It is not just for young children. When you are writing a paper, reading the paper aloud is the best way to proofread your paper. I also like thinking quietly since I can think faster than I can talk, so often times I will do silent thinking. 3) Vygotsky and education. How important is education and what is the primary school teacher s role? Education is very important and the primary teacher s role plays a large part in how well a child learns. She should be a guide to the students and not be a dictator. Meaning she show them how to do things in a step by step process so they can eventually perform these task on their own. Early education sets the stage for learning in later years and is a very important aspect of child development. 4) Do you think Piaget s theory or Vygotsky s theory would be more helpful in teaching? Because of the complexity of tumors, the origin of the disease was unknown until the late 19th century and the search for treatment or a cure came even later. The 20th century saw the greatest progression of cancerresearch, with twins being crucial to such studies. Twinstudies were used as an important method in the field of cancer study. Personal Statement On Life s Hustle And Bustle In life s hustle and bustle sometimes it s easy to get lost in the whole process leaving you wondering is your life leading you instead of you leading it. I needed to find some personal fulfillment in my life. So I had to do a self check to discover what my true purpose was in this life. How impactful was I in changing the world. I was completely satisfied raising my son and being engaged in everything he was involved in. However, the closer it came for him to graduate from high school the more I began to think about what my new life would be like. I had to deal with the persisting question of what did I want to do with the rest of my life. Overall, I felt like I was a pretty decent mother, an awesome friend, a loving sister and I have a faith based foundation. Even with all those great attributes I still didn t know what my true purpose was here on earth. When I think of the questions easily, the first thing I thought of was philanthropy. Living a healthy lifestyle would be next. I m very excited about getting the chance to expound on my future in leadership and mentoring rolls. Next, I want to explore what full potential and purpose is and how can I be a positive impact on the world. This study was conducted by collecting data from 190 college student couples where measures of narcissism, level of conflict in their relationship, and depressive symptoms to use as a control variable for results, were taken. Subsets of couples were then asked to participate in a competitive reaction time task to behaviorally assess aggressive tendencies towards their partner during conflict. It was found that the four hypotheses had supporting data that agreed with each; the first being that there is significant relation of narcissistic traits between males and females in a relationship, which could be due to the tendency to choose partners that have similar qualities and beliefs as you. The first of these societies are the hunting and gathering societies. These societies use simple tools to hunt animals and gather their food and vegetation. • 30. What Is The Theme Of Sailing To Byzantium The poem by W. B. Yeats is considered one of the greatest poems in the English language and quite frankly, it s very understandable to why it is. He speaks up about growing old in this poem and he brings up how as you get older, people tend to realize that the world is for young people and that old people are just around, watching as the younger generation makes the world the way it is. Sailing To Byzantium is one of the more well known poems that point out that as you get older, a person begins to realize what is actually going on and that the world isn t really meant for the old and more so the young. Whether you re listening to an older family member or a teacher, or an adult in general, the young only learn by listening and doing. Yeat s Sailing to Byzantium. ) Though someone might have a pure mind and do their own thing, they won t learn from doing that as well as they would by listening. The person, Kumare, produced a set of ritual practices that included meditation (blue light meditation) and yoga that he taught to his followers. Introduction This literature review and research proposal was motivated following a practice placement with a Community Mental Health Team while working with a client with Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD). GAD is a long term condition that causes someone to feel anxious about a wide range of situations and issues, rather than one specific event. GAD is a common mental health condition affecting 1 in every 25 people in the United Kingdom, its prevalence is slightly more among women than men and individuals between the ages of 35 and 55 (NHSChoices, 2014). People with GAD feel anxious most days and often struggle to remember the last time they felt relaxed (NHSChoices, 2014). Feeling anxious is a normal response to stressful experiences, however when anxiety is prolonged, inappropriate, and/or overwhelming to the point that it impacts on functioning, it becomes a pathological disorder (Davis, 2011). The anxiety, worry, or physical symptoms cause significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning (APA, 2000). Studies have shown that GAD is more impairing than other anxiety disorders (Hoffmann et al., 2009); and people afflicted with GAD have reported significantly less satisfaction with their quality of life in particular in the domains of self esteem, goals and values, money, work, play, learning, creativity, friends and family (Henning et al., 2007). Thus GAD has a disabling impact on an individual s occupation performance ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. Dehumanization In The Beast People The cover of the Broadview Edition of The Island of Doctor Moreau shows someone prying a dog s mouth open with his hands. Perhaps he wants to see the inside of its mouth, remove its sharp teeth, or even make it speak, yet the dog seems to be resisting his effort. This image echoes a few ideas presented in the novel, such as the creation of the Beast People, the torturing of animals, and their bestial nature. In the novel, Moreau refers to the vivisection of animals as a humanizing process (120) because he wants to transform animals into humans. However, the Beast People and undergo an ongoing process of humanization and dehumanization, showing that whatever state they were made for is not permanent. H.G. Wells suggests a definition of humanity through Moreau s philosophy of pain and reasoning, but the dehumanization of the Beast People and humans suggest that this philosophy is not viable. In order to discuss the humanizing and dehumanizing processes, we must first acknowledge Moreau s definition of humanity. In his explanation of vivisection to Prendick, he associates pain with beasts: This store which men and women set on pain, Prendick, is the mark of the beast upon them the mark of the beast from which they came! Pain, pain and pleasure, they are for us only so long as we wriggle in the dust. (127) As long as beasts are motivated by pain, they will always be inferior to men. Moreau also says: Then with men, the more intelligent they become, the more intelligently they will see after their own welfare, and the less they will need the goad to keep them out of danger... And pain gets needless. (127) Moreau s definition of humanity is a creature that is not driven by pain, and uses reasoning to take rational action. In order to rid animals of their bestial nature, he tries to transform their mental structure by superseding old inherent instincts by new suggestions, grafting upon or replacing the inherited fixed ideas (125). On the other hand, he also acknowledges the physical differences of humans and animals, such as a monkey s incapacity to speak due to the lack of a larynx. • 36. Hydrogen Cells In Chloroplasts Hydrogen ion gradients play a role in cellular respiration in the mitochondria an in photosynthesis in the chloroplasts (Wikipedia, n.d.). During cellular respiration, it is important to know, that hydrogen ions are pumped out of the matrix or out of the cytoplasm and that this creates a concentration gradient, which forces hydrogen ions back into the matrix or cytoplasm and forces ATP synthase into action. Therefore, hydrogen ions move across a semipermeable membrane to an electrochemical gradient. This hydrogen ion gradient is often used to create chemical reactions, furthermore, hydrogen ions diffuse from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration. When they diffuse, an electrochemical concentration gradient can be captured to make ATP. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Consequently, a hydrogen ion force is generated by an electron transport chain, which acts as a pump, and it pumps hydrogen ions throughout the membrane (Wikipedia, n.d.) The electrical charge is separated, and in the mitochondria, energy is released by the electron transport chain. This energy is used to move hydrogen ions from the mitochondrial matrix to the stroma. Jefferson Vs Hamilton Essay Following the ratification of the Constitution in 1788, the 1790s in the United States was a period of unrest that characterized a new country with little experience. A partisan divide was formed during this time period, due to the establishment of Hamilton s plan which resulted in conflict of interest between Federalists and Republicans, the U.S involvement within the French and British conflict, and the domestic affairs that dominated Adam s presidency. While each issue had strong opposition, the true problem was rooted in a government that was more focused on combating tyranny, rather than finding resolutions to the conflicts at hand. Alexander Hamilton was the secretary of treasury during Washington s presidency. In 1790, Hamilton established a five step program that essentially privatized the state treasury, and validated stronger bonds in industry based foreign trade. This policy had support from merchants, manufacturers and financiers, but not small farmers, headed by Jefferson and Madison, who wanted the U.S to stay agrarian and expand Westward. From these two ideals sprouted partisan politics; Federalists under Hamilton, and Republicans under Jefferson and Madison. The U.S Founders were primarily focused on preventing the abuse of power when creating the Constitution, and thus there was no method to resolving the conflict that... This war crippled the nation leaving Tajikistanvery weak in the June of 1997 when the war finally drew to a close. This civil war weakened Tajikistan s legitimate economy and left many people to rely on the revenues of illicit opiate trade . Tajikistan is slowly recovering from the effects of becoming a new nation, plagued with war and drugproblems early in its life, and this requires the government to find a way to end the drug usage and distribution problem that grips the country along with the corruption of the state in an attempt to improve the economy and living conditions of Tajikistan. There are many contributing factors to the perfect storm of sorts that lead to the rapid increase in Tajikistan s status as a drug state. One of the most important of these is the proximity of Tajikistan to Afghanistan. This proximity allowed for Afghanistan to take advantage of Tajikistan in the midst of civil unrest giving the people of the poverty stricken economy an easy way to make quick money. This was made easier for Afghanistan by Tajikistan s lack of border regulations, allowing drugs to easily be transferred between the two countries. Another difference between the two countries is their court system. France does not practice judicial review. In the United States, the Supreme Court has the principle responsibility of ruling on the constitutionality of all laws. This kind of judicial review is not practiced in France (Terrill 232). In France they have the Constitutional council which has nine members serving a nine year term, they are responsible for election complaints and the legislation made in parliament. The advantage of this is that it reduces the conflict of jurisdictions. But the disadvantage is that our Supreme Court has a longer term than the Constitutional Council which allows more constant laws and fewer laws that will contradict each other. The aspect of legal profession and legal education is also extremely different. To become a judge in France you must first obtain a law degree from a university law school. Next you must gain admission to the National School for the Judiciary at Bordeaux (Terrill 236). After completing this school, the candidate is now qualified to become a judge. The French system allows judges to begin their profession at an early age which could be a disadvantage because of lack of experience in the system, where judges in the United States are usually older and more knowledgeable.
