All employers must conduct a risk assessment to identify hazards and risks. A sample risk assessment is provided for a school production of Beauty and the Beast to illustrate what should be included. Hazards identified include slips and trips, use of ladders and rigging lights, pyrotechnics, falling off the stage, hitting heads under the stage, using scaffolding, dropping heavy equipment, reaching high shelves, spraying flammable coating, and splinters. For each hazard, those who may be harmed, existing controls, and any additional actions needed are described. The risk assessment should be reviewed if circumstances change.
