I have decidedtouse ‘crossfade’and‘dip to black’videotransitionsbetweenshots inorder to smoothoutthe transitions betweenthe shots.These effectshelpthe transitionsfitwiththe flowandstyle of the musicI have chosento use. Lucy Pratt 13u30/01/19 Media- From Outside In evidence 2 | P a g e 26/02/19 I have decidedtocut the dialogue,apartfromthe voice over,frommyfilmandchange the shot typesinthe classroomscenes.Thisisdue to the fact everyone thatcouldpotentiallybe the actors withinmyfilmwere extremelybusyforthe pastcouple of monthsgivingme notime where the actors and I were all available atthe same time.Iwasalsoextremelybusyduringthistime andwill still be verybusyuntil the endof thisterm(the deadline forthisfilm).Due tothisIdecidedtocome intoschool duringmystudyleave weekandspendawhole dayfilmingwhatIcouldformy film.I came upwithan alternative ideathatstill fitswithmyconceptaswell asthe now cut characters in my film:Samisthe onlyone seeninthe filmdue tothe fact she suffersfromdepression.When sufferingfromthismental healthproblemthe suffererfeelsisolatedandalone whichworkswell withthe newshotsand footage Ihave for my film.Iwill addambientnoiseof classroomsitshow that she isnot alone inthe scenesbutshe feelsthatshe is. On the leftisshoot1 at the StudentGate and on the right isshoot2. The qualityof the shotswas the reasonI decidedto reshootthese scenes. The reasonI shot during tutor andperiod1 on shoot1 wasto get the morningfeel of the shotsrightbutfilminginthe morning.Thisobviously didn’tworkso I turnedtodoingit ona betterdayinthe afternoon. Lucy Pratt 13u30/01/19 Media- From Outside In evidence 3 | P a g e Thursday 28/03/19 Before IstartedI organised and renamedall my footage intolocation foldersandalsobyshot number.Here Iam fining and downloadingambient classroomchattersound effectstoaddto the naturalisticsettingsof the classroomswithinmyfilm.I am usingZapsplatforthis. Here I have addeda school bell sound effectandtimedit well tosyncup to the footage of thisscene. I used‘Fade to Black’ on the videoandthe audiotransition crossfade ‘Constant Gain’for the bell fade out andthe chatter transitions. Here I am usinga door slam soundeffectthatI foundon Zapsplat(aroyaltyfree,free downloadsite) inorderto make the bedroomdoor close more obviousand effective.Thisalsohelped whensyncingitupwiththe snap blackout.

Here I am takingthe footage of me makingnoiseswithdesks, chairs,white boardsetc.and removingthe visuals.Thisisso that I can use the audioas an extralayerof soundsinthe classroomscenestomake it more natural. Here I wantedto show Sam reactingto the soundof the school bell, so I usedprevious footage (shot23) and changedthe durationto ‘reversedduration’.I thenunlinkedand uncheckedthe ‘reverse duration’box onthe audioso that itdidn’t soundlike the reverse.I movedaroundthe audioto fitthe shot- I usedthe closingof the door inthisand thenmultiple othershotsasa way of givinga logical/realistic reasonto the decreasingchattervolume.

Lucy Pratt 13u30/01/19 Media- From Outside In evidence 5 | P a g e I thenroughlyputtogether the scene withinthe infilm Thursday and proceededto copy andpaste just this sectionintoa different premiere file and exporting it.I thenwentto a quite classroomandloggedon.I recordedmyself sayingthe voice overwhile watching thiseditinorderto time it the way wanted. I thenattemptedtouploadand rename these onthe computerI was workingonbefore testing them out onthe footage andrealisingthat the voice overneededtobe edited. I neededtofirstopeneach recordingindividuallyinAdobe Audition,Ithennormalisedthe tracks before playingwiththe Db gage until the volume andoverall consistsworked well. I thenaddedthemto my mainPremiere file.Idecided to use the razer tool to change the volume of the small gapsbetweenspeech where the clockof the classroomI recordedinwas pickeduptoo muchduring recording. I thendecidedthatIwas goingto take out all the transitioneffectsfromthe in filmThursdayuntil Samstarts to relax inJane’sroomin orderto enhance the jittery, anxious,scaredmental state I am tryingto show through the heart beatsoundeffect. I thentookthe heart beatsoundeffectIgot duringpre-production and timeditto the relaxationof Samat certainpointsinthe scene.Forexample Sam starts to cry which iswhenthe heart beat increasesagainuntil she istold,by someone off screen,tobreathe and itdecreases. I alsodecreasedthe speedof the slowed heartbeatsuntil usingthe ‘Constant Gain’audio transitiontofade out the heartbeat soundeffectall together.

Lucy Pratt 13u30/01/19 Media- From Outside In evidence 7 | P a g e Once I imported my chosenmusic for the endof my film,whichIgot duringpre- production, and timingthe footage to it.(I had the alarm fade inas oppose tocutting inas it has been the whole filmto showthe change inSam) I then movedtoPhotoshopwithmytitle screen/logotomake an endscreenwithmy logline.Idecided that I wanteda fontthat wassharp and couldconnote strengthasoppose toa more fluid,smooth fontthat mightconnote Samhavingan easyand happytime withinthe film.The sharpfontcan representhersuddenstrengthtotryand pushthroughhermental health‘bubble’. I founda photo of a bubble beingpopped whichI thenusedto complete myendscreen title. Ifeltthisworked betteras itmeantI could make the logline lookas thoughit wasthe thing poppingthe bubble, representingherstrength to do so. I addedthe logoto the endof myfilm and startedto open up a word documentandtype out mycredits.I usedmyshooting scriptto do thisas I had alreadywritten an ideaforthis.I filledinthe blanks, addedto and took out small partof the original creditsplan and thencopied,pastedandresizedthe creditsbefore choosingafontandpositionforeachcredit.I used‘Fade to black’forthe credittransitionsand addedthe studiologotothe end.

Lucy Pratt 13u30/01/19 Media- From Outside In evidence 8 | P a g e 08/03/19 Here I am exporting my roughcut- there is no music,effectsor transitionsyet. 13/03/19 I showedMissMaughan myfilmto gainsome feedbacktohelpimprove it.She suggestedtobring downthe windsoundfrom the footage whenthe actor isoutside sixthform/walkinginthe student gate.She alsosuggestedtolowerthe ambientclassroomnoisessothe audience doesn’ttryand focuson whatis beingsaid.However,she likedthe volume of thiswhenthe voiceoverwas happeningasithelpedemphasise the growinganxiety. SoIsuggestedthatIcouldincrease the volume eachdayuntil the volume itisnow duringthe voice over. She alsosaidthatmy ideaof repetitivedaysbutshowinglessandlesseachdaywassuccessful asthe ideaof repetitivedayswith repetitivethoughtsandthe ideathatshe isalone andisolatedall the time.MissMaughanalso suggestedthatthe musicforthe Jane’sroomscene worksreallywellbutthe footage sloweddown slightlyandnormal pace bythe endof the scene may fitbetterwiththe music. These all helpedme as it gave suggestionsfromsomeone else’sperspective whichwasgoodas itconfirmedtome that my ideawascomingacross well andthatit onlyneedsthese few tweaks.Iwill show MrsJones tomorrowwiththese tweaksmade tosee whatshe thinksIcouldimprove. Here I am adjustingthe soundlevelsof the windinthisshotas itis too loudanddrowns out the music.

Here I am changingthe speedof the shotsin Jane’sroomto helpfit the musicbetter- thistherefore involvesre timingthe shotswith the heart beats. Here I am tryingto sort the music at the end.MissMaughan saidthat the musicduringthe creditssounds 80s and that thentakesawayfrom the otherfittingmusicusedwithin the film. Here I am croppingdifferent sectionsof the final piece of music to see if itworksbetterwithspecific sections.

Here I am addingthe newmusicto the end of myfilm. 14/03/19 I askedMrs Jonesto watch myfilmandto give me feedbackthatcouldhelpimprove it. Aftertelling herthe feedbackMissMaughangave me she said that the onlysmall thingsshe feelscouldbe improvedare the volume of the ambientclassroomnoise underthe voice overasit couldcome downmore.She seesthe ideaof itbeingoverwhelmingforthe characterof Sam butfeel itcould come downslightlytohelpfocusonthe voice over.She alsopointedoutthe timingforthe reversed shotof shot23 as itlooks as if the actor iswaitingfor‘action’before pickingupherpen.She then saidthat it shouldthenbe readyforexporting!!!!!
