Liberal Arts Bubble Essay
Martin Luther King Junior said, Intelligence plus character that is the goal of true education.
Higher education does not exist for the sole purpose of preparing students for future jobs; it s there
in order to prepare individuals for life where they are expected to participate in their community,
their government, and the lives of those around them. Liberal arts, in particular, exist for the
broadening of students minds in order for them to be successful not only in their chosen career
but also in their lives outside of it. Liberal arts lost their past popularity during the last few
decades, but they shouldn t be disregarded in favor of technical and professional degrees because
they still provide students with skills that are perhaps less tangible, but no less necessary for life in
modern world.
First and foremost there needs to be an established understanding of what liberal arts are. In the
article Why Choose Liberal Arts? Mark William Roche explains that liberal arts were originally
intended for free men, those who weren t being educated for the sole purpose of gaining a
livelihood, but rather for the sake of being educated and included things like grammar, rhetoric,
arithmetic, music and astronomy. He then goes on to clarify the meaning of liberal arts today as a
general education that is a broad grounding in the diverse disciplines. Furthermore, in his article,
The Liberal Arts Bubble John Agresto writes that today liberal arts are still called liberal not

Obesity Is The Reason Our Youth
Introduction Childhood obesity has been on a steady incline over the past 30 years and is
considered a serious public health concern, especially in elementary school aged children.
According to the US Surgeon General, nearly one in three children are overweight or obese (US
Department of Human Health Services, 2014). The American Heart Association (2010) has age
and sex specific growth charts that show the calculation of children s BMI using their height
and weight. When children s weight is well above the average for their height and age they are
classified as obese. Children BMI for age is in the 95th percentile or higher is considered to be
obese. Obese children normally consume more energy in the form of food and drinks then they
burn off with physical exercise (Kids Health, 2014). Our nation s obesity epidemic effects are
immense: taxpayers, communities, and families spend hundreds of billions of dollars each year
in medical costs and attempts to end childhood obesity (Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, 2014).
Obesity is the reason our youth is predicted to live shorter lives than our parents and we need to
change this. Childhood obesity has long term harmful effects on a child s future health. Obese
children are more likely to have high blood pressure and high cholesterol which put them more at
risk for cardiovascular disease in the future (Center for Disease Control Prevention, 2014).
Childhood obesity can lead to type 2 diabetes, cancer, asthma, joint

Recycling Of Recycling
Introduction
In today s world recycling has become a major benefactor to preserving the environment and the
world. One product, among many, being recycled has shown a huge increase in energy savings and
costs, and that is aluminum. Using aluminum can pieces with KOH (potassium hydroxide) and
other reactants will eventually lead to the production of alum.
Materials and Methods Starting the experiment, 1.0184 g of aluminum pieces were weighed out on
an analytical balance. The aluminum was then placed in a 250 mL beaker containing 50.1 mL of
1.4M potassium hydroxide. The solution was then heated on a hot plate set at 80ВєC for
approximately 35 minutes with a spin of 240 RPM. At the end of the 35 minutes, the solution has
become black in color and many of the pieces have broken down. The beaker was rinsed with 10
mL of distilled water after the mixture was poured through the BГјchner funnel of the aspirator. The
filtrate was put into a clean 250 mL beaker to be added with 20.5 mL of 6.0M sulfuric acid, stirred
slowly when added. The reaction was then put into a 1L beaker Вѕ full of ice and water to kick
start the reaction into making the alum crystals. The stirring rod was used to help activate the
crystals. Once the making of the crystals had finished, it was poured into the filtration apparatus to
separate the crystals from the solution. While the crystals were drying, the watch glass was
weighed at 57.1161 g on the analytical balance. After the crystals where dry, they were

Reasons behind LucasВґ Suicide in Good Hair Essay
There are three reasons Lucas commits suicide, and each reason teaches an important lesson to
Alice. The first reason is that Lucas felt that he had no identity and did not fit in with his peers
and other social groups. Secondly, Lucas was not able to commit to relationships. The final reason
is that Lucas felt a lot of guilt for attempting to rape Alice. While all of these reasons negatively
affected Lucas and were the reasons behind his suicide, they also taught Alice valuable lessons
which allowed her to make improvements to her life. If it was not for the lessons in identity,
cultural perspective, and self worth, Alice would not have been able to move forward with the
changes in her life.
In the story of Good Hair, Lucas lack of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Growing up, she felt that she did not fit in with the black girls who berated her on the fashions of
the white magazines that she wore every day to school. It wasn t until she started to embrace the
stuck up group of girls in her school, that she could feel safe from being bullied. The notion of
her childhood from her parents that the son should be smart and go to school while she should
be satisfied because, ...it was enough, they said, that I was pretty . The death of Lucas allowed
her to see that she had more control in figuring out where she belongs as a successful writer . In
Alice s relationship with Miles, she had to submit to his will and not live a life that was fulfilling.
The pleasures and the fashion that came with Miles money, did not make her feel complete. In the
same way, Lucas death teaches Alice that she should not settle on things that did not add to her self
worth.
With Alice s identity, the role of fashion has always been a factor in her family s identity for her
as a child. This role of fashion and beauty is also present in her understanding of the culture of
black women in the tribe. As with the example of her grandmother who was abused by her
grandfather with being a beauty , Alice has learned from her family history that the
preconceptions of what beauty is should not be something to shy away from or to use the term
beauty as a way to fill the void in the way she lives her life. The lessons of identity from Lucas

How To Acid Affect My Mood
Tracked Data and Hypothesis: First, I decided to track my sleep and how it affects my mood
because I wanted to determine if there was an amount of sleep which helped me have a positive
mood. This could be useful, especially during the school year, to help me have a positive outlook
amidst a stressful atmosphere. I hypothesized that not getting enough sleep, as well as, sleeping
too much will have a negative affect on my mood. However, I also included outside influences
because no matter how much sleep I get on a certain day, if something negative happens I will
most likely let it affect my mood. While compiling my data for this assignment I also stopped
taking oral contraceptives which greatly impacted my menstrual cycle. Because of this, I also
decided to track my cycle and determine what hormones would be the highest on what days. Since
my cycle was thrown off by almost two weeks, I wanted to see if these hormones also affect my
mood. I then hypothesized that the different hormones during menstruation negatively affect my
mood. Description of Data:... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, if I had an exciting event on or after that day, my mood would be affected in a positive
way. I could not easily determine what amount of sleep was too much. On days where I got 8
hours of sleep or more there was a split correlation between a positive mood and a negative
mood. I missed the amount of sleep I got on the 15th because I worked an overnight shift and slept
strange times. I included any inferences I could think of to help determine if outside factors played
a larger role on my mood than the amount of sleep I

The Epidemic Of Smallpox Vaccine
In the 21th century we live our lives day to day seeing the next medicine breakthrough. It is easy for
us to assume that s how the history of medicine has always been. On the contrary, medicine became
positively modern in the 19th century, new inventions were introduced, new discoveries were
brought to their attention, remedies was in the spotlight, and the start of women s professions
generated. Vaccines are the most successful strategies in medicine to prevent and even eliminate the
most gruesome and contagious diseases. For centuries, smallpoxtraumatized the human race. Today,
smallpox is not something we automatically think of when somebody gets a rash or have the chills,
thanks to Edward Jenner. The first successful smallpox vaccine was introduced by Jenner in 1796.
Although, Jenner s portrayed the first scientific attempt to control this deadly disease, later in the
19th century it was perceived that the vaccinationdid not grant immunity for the rest a victim s life.
As the 19th century came to an end, the smallpox vaccine became more advanced and more
depended on. Scientist Louis Pasteuramazed the French Academy of Medicine when he
prevented two boys from contracting rabies. Once a person was to get rabies, the symptom was
death. A 15 year old, Jean Baptiste, was bitten several times while conflicting with a rabid dog.
Three days following to the dog attack, Pasteur and his colleagues injected Jean 13 times over 10
days with rabid rabbits nerve tissue that had

Artler s Journey
Once upon a time, there was a carbon atom named Artler. This carbon atom started his journey as
hard wood in a pinyon tree. He stayed here for millions and millions of years. Eventually, Artler
was buried in a landslide. This eventually turned him into an atom of carbon in coal. He now
carries on with his adventure in the lithosphere of fossil fuels. Artler is now living his life happily
as a piece of coalin the lithosphere. He has been here for millions of years once again, just like
with the pinyon tree. As a piece of coal, Artler was burned in a stove to warm a nice happy family.
Now, Artler is becoming carbonin the form of CO2. Finally, he will lie in the atmosphere all by
himself. For the next part of Artler s journey, he is CO2 in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Artler remains here for about 5 months. However, Artler is then used by a bacterium in order to
produce energy. Artler is now energy, and being sent back to the atmosphere. Once again, Artler
heads back to his favorite place, the atmosphere. Artler is in the atmosphere as CO2 once more.
He will remain here for about 40 years. However this time, Artler dissolved into Lake Powell.
Here, he remains a nice little happy carbon atom in the lake. Artler is now in the hydrosphere.
Here in the hydrosphere, Artler is carbon in groundwater. He remains here for hundreds of years.
Sadly, Artler precipitates out of the groundwater. Next, he becomes travertine in the ground.
Artler is nearing the end of his journey, as he now enters the lithosphere of limestone. Artler is
not just any limestone, for he is Kaibab Limestone. He remains here for millions of years.
However, sadly, he is mined in order to make cement. During this process, CO2 is released into
the atmosphere. Once more, Artler is sent up into the atmosphere. Artler is in the atmosphere for
one last final time. He remains here for about 62 years as CO2. He is finally absorbed by a plant
once more. Here, he becomes part of the plant through photosynthesis. Artler finally ends his
journey in the biosphere once more, as a

New Orleans Broke
In Zeitoun and When the Levees Broke, it was evident that Hurricane Katrina caused catastrophic
damage to the Gulf Coast, especially to New Orleans. Many lives were lost, and the people were
both physically and mentally distraught. However, after just six months the people of New Orleans
gathered their spirits to celebrate Mardi Gras. This celebration proved that the city s identity had
not been forgotten. New Orleans identity was also evident during the hurricane, which highlighted
the ways in which people cared for each other. Although New Orleans went through an
environmental crisis, the city was resilient enough for the people to remember their history, jazz
music, and their connection to their tight knit community. When picturing New... Show more

Specifically, jazz music is the soul of New Orleans and was actually born there. Congo square
was the very spot where Jazz music was born (Lee). This was the only place African slaves could
play their drums in New Orleans. In fact, it was the only place in America where the slaves had
that type of freedom. The slave holders would allow the African slaves to be off work every
Sunday. The other states in North America would never allow this freedom. Music was
everywhere in New Orleans: churches, funerals, celebrations, parades, the French opera. Jazz
music plays a significant role in funerals because it provides comfort. Slow, traditional tunes
would be played to mourn over the death of a loved one. Once some words are exchanged over
the dead, the jazz becomes more up beat and turns into a celebration. This change in beat signifies
that, although the people are sad they had to let the person go, they are happy they actually got to
know them (Lee). This tradition was used over the victims of Hurricane Katrina, which allowed the
people to mourn. Without their jazz, New Orleans probably wouldn t have gotten through all of

Bread Mold Experiment
Mold is something that we often take for granted, as something that makes us have to throw the
bread away or the cheese smell bad.
Mold is, in fact, a fascinating organism which has had many different uses over the years and our
lives would not be the same without it.
Most of us know that food seems to become moldy more quickly in the summer than in the winter
when it is colder. Food in refrigerators seems to keep longer than food left out in the sun. Is this
true? Does temperature really affect the rate at which mold grows?
Mold grows quicker at higher temperatures. Companies pay large sums of money in maintaining
food refrigerated in house and on transport, so it is essential for them to know under what ... Show

Summary Of Chapter Twelve Of The Omnivore s Dilemma
Reading Summary/Discussion Questions #3 This past week of class we were to read chapters
ten through fourteen of The Omnivore s Dilemma. This week s readings were really a mix of
different things, but it was a more behind the scenes look at what happens on a farm. I found it
all very interesting, as I have this entire book, because often times I do not know what all goes
into farming and it was interesting to see how it traveled from Polyface Farms to the market to a
meal. In chapters ten and eleven, Pollan continues to observe Salatin s Polyface Farmwhere he
focuses on his agricultural practice. In chapter thirteen, Pollan views how Salatin sells his foodand
his beliefs behind agriculture. Finally, chapter twelve deals with the... Show more content on

On the contrary, the U.S. Department of Agriculture believes in fence to fence sowing, so there
are really no trees. Pollan points out that this type of agriculture has many problems and many of
these lead to disease. Unfortunately, this agriculture has been stripped of its wisdom and
intelligence. Even Salatin points out that rural schools encourage the smarter ones to go to
college and the low scoring students stay behind to help on the farm. Basically, it s a foolish
culture that entrusts its food supply to simpletons (Pollan 221). Coming from a rural school, I
see this being true, but I also have to disagree with Salatin because they may not be the smartest,
but they sure do know a lot about corn. The second section to be reviewed is chapter thirteen. In
this chapter, Pollan sees how Salatin sells his food and how it compares to other supermarkets.
Compared to other supermarkets, Polyface Farm s food is more expensive; however, Salatin
argues that it is actually, if fact, cheaper. He believes that because it is produced without
subsidies and it is more sustainable compared to industrial food. Consumers also have a reason
for choosing Salatin s food over other supermarkets. They believe that his chicken tastes better
and would rather pay for quality, which it seems many people do not want to do today. For
example, I work at a farmer s market and you would not believe how many people complain

Cost Center Definition
Unlike a profit center, a cost center is not operated with the intention of earning revenue or making
a profit directly. Instead, it is a part of a business that generates costs without making money. A
cost center only enables profit centers to generate revenue. For example, in a small retail business,
each store, or each class of products, may operate as a profit center, while the customer service and
human resources divisions operate as cost centers.
A cost centre is a department within a company that does not produce direct profit and adds to
the cost of running a company. However, all cost centres perform an important job. It improves
the satisfaction of customers and indirectly increases sales.[1] The manager and employees of
cost centre are not accountable for its profit and investment decision but they are responsible for
its cost.[2] They are liable for keeping their cost in line or below budget because cost centre does
not produce directly from its activities.[3] The performance of the managers is assessed by
comparing the actual expenses incurred with the budgeted expenses for the cost centre. Basically
cost is the control data in the cost centre. [
Furthermore, the main objective of a cost centre is to minimize cost whereas

Civic Mirror
While it s true I had a blast using the Civic Mirror, and as much as it taught me about how
Parliament passes laws and the political process, it has some serious omissions: there is no
Governor General, there is only one level of government, and there is no Senate.
The Governor General in Canada represents the Monarch (Queen Elizabeth II) and acts as the Head
of State (the highest ranking position in a sovereign state) in Canada and abroad. This is a
significant position because it is the highest position in Canada and because it represents the
Monarch, which has the highest authority. Personally, I do not think this is a position that needs to
be included in Civic Mirror. Firstly, there is no Monarch in Civic Mirror. However, for the purpose
of the game, the Governor General could act on his own without the Monarch, but that wouldn t be
as accurate to real life. Plus, what would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

provinces, including the cities within them. Now, Civic Mirror isn t large enough to effectively

worst things you can voluntarily do to your body. You re probably sitting there thinking to
yourself... Great! I get to listen to another lecture about how bad smoking is. And if you are like
me, you have gotten tired of hearing about it and watching commercials about it. It seems like it
never goes away! But... What are you doing about it?
D.Establish Credibility: I don t smoke. But, I have been around smokers about since I born. A lot
of my immediate family were smokers; my grandparents, and aunts and uncles, many of my friends;

Fragile X Syndrome Inherited
How is Fragile X Syndrome Inherited?
Genes are a huge part of DNA that are passed from generation to generation. There are many
genes on each chromosome; we have tens of thousands of genes that tell or bodies on how to
develop. Genes are given letters to identify them. The gene responsible for fragile X syndrome is
called FMR1. The FMR1 Gene is on the X chromosome. The FMR1 gene appears in four forms
that are shown by the number of repeats of a pattern of DNA called CGG repeats. Individuals with
less than 45 CGG repeats have a normal FMR1 gene. Those with 45 54 CGG repeats have what is
called an intermediate or grey zone allele, which does not cause any of the known fragile X
associated disorders. Individuals with 55 200 CGG repeats have ... Show more content on

People who are carriers of the Fragile X gene often have high levels of anxiety. Women who are
carriers may experience primary ovarian insufficiency, which is a loss of normal function in
your ovaries which means they don t release eggs regularly, which causes early menopause. Men
and women who are carriers can also develop Fragile X tremor ataxia syndrome (FXTAS), the
breaking down of the brain. Men are more likely to develop FXTAS than women. FXTAS
usually occurs at the age of 50. It can affect balance and memory, and cause tremors and other
neurological problems. A person may be fully affected by Fragile X but not show all of these
signs. Here are all of the symptoms under their given

My Family Is Not The Typical Caucasian Family Dynamic
As with any family, ours is not the typical Caucasian family dynamic. We began with my
husband as the traditional breadwinner while I was finishing my college education. It was
planned that we both would be working in careers before we discovered I was pregnancy with
our first son. Three months later my spouse would suffer a great tragedy and was no longer able
to walk, much less work. I would have to take on the role of not only breadwinner, but also
caregiver and mother within the next year. Our familydoes not have the duel career supporting
parents as suggested in the text regarding our ethnic statistics.
Some similarities that our family has had with our African American ethnic families is that of the
maintaining and strong ties to our extended family, as stated in our text. Our families have often
pooled resources in order to support each other. My spouse and I have welcomed members into
our home when they were struggling to find work. Our house guests have ranged from: his
brother, my brother, nephews, and even a great nephew. Some of them have lived with us a few
months, others have stayed a few years. My spouse s sister lives with her husband, his brother, and
one of her daughters. While my mother lives with her cohabitant, my brother, and his daughter. My
grandparents raised not only their four children, my brother and myself, as well as my two cousins
in their home.
Another similarity that our family has with our African Americans would be the high

Part I
The purpose of this paper is to discuss different strategies for team building which helps is
overcoming conflicts in a working environment. Based on current strategies available on subject, it
tries to figure out some leading challenges to addressed, and extracting the best strategy for team
building. It covers analysis of factors and measures for building up a successful team, which serves
as a common ground for a progress in evaluation of best strategy for the particular purpose.

As a strategy to build an efficient team it is important to have a good leader and for each individual
team member to know what task he or she will take on. This is why communication is so important.
The team needs to be able to communicate with one another. To communicate issues, ideas,
thoughts and all other information that needs to be shared.
Challenges or Barriers
Some challenges or barriers that may happen with building teams are miscommunication,
jealously, members may feel as if another member is not completing his or her share of work,
and some members may not be used to working with a team. Miscommunication can lead to
many issues. If everyone in the team is not on the same page it will be hard for the team to meet
their goals and complete task. Jealously can also occur and cause a team member to not try as
hard to complete his or her share of work. If this happens the entire team will suffer. One of the
most common conflicts have been faced in working in teams is the fact that some team members
may not contribute as much as others. This can causes hurtles and may even cause groups to form
within the team causing separation. Another barrier that can arise is the fact that some team
members may not be used to working with others and may not be able to trust that his or her team
will complete their share of the task.

Describe The Changes In The 1970 s
The seventies can be known for many things, for you it could ve have meant the year that your
favorite band broke up. Which the Beatles did just starting off the year in April 1970. In the
1970s the first commercial air line came to be in the 1976 and it was know as Concorde. It was
soon taken out in 2003 when it crashed in 2000. During the seventies a lot of singers died, which
could ve had left you heartbroken. Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, and Elvis Presley were all found
dead in the 1970s. Over in England it was a huge year in 1977, there was a huge royal
celebration, and the sex pistols released God Save The Queen which was a huge hit. Many things
were invented during the 1970s. Many of these things we still use today but of course with a lot of
major improvements. The home VCR was invented during the seventies, the floppy disk was also
created at the time, which... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most well know band like Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Sex Pistols, Ramones, Genesis, all took
a huge hit during the 1970s. During this time it was usually always played in the wide open
where everyone could always hear it. In 1976 rock and roll started to give a disco feeling to it
which created the genre punk rock. The Ramones, The Sex Pistols, The Clash, and many more
originated from this genre. Glam Rock which also came to be in the seventies was described as
rock and roll with lipstick. The music in the protocolar genre shined with a glitter like feeling.
Led Zeppelin became really huge in the 70s recording up to ten albums, but broke up in the 80s
when one of the members died. Disco is also a widely know, and its sometimes its used to
describe the 1970s. Discos popularity was really short but this genre created many songs and
artist, which some people today still listen too. It sins take long for this genre to be seen as silly,
and as a joke. When it was falling, it felt really quickly, that even radio station started burning disco

How Is The Black Cat Insane
The Black Cat by Edgar Allen Poe is a horror story of an insane man telling us of his crimes. The
narrator was just a regular man with a drinking problem until one day when he came home and
gouged out his cat s eye. But his hostility only got worse, to the point where he hung the cat in the
back yard. His actions only further prove that he wasn t in his right mind when he committed these
crimes.
Some people may think he was sane because he had the conscience to think it was wrong when he
cut out the cat s eye. He had restraint while abusing the cat, because he knew what he was doing
and didn t want to lose control. For Pluto, however, I still retained sufficient regard to restrain me
from maltreating him, as I made no scruple of maltreating

How Human Brain Works Essay
How the Human Brain Works
The human brain is one of the most amazing organs in a body and at the same time the most
mysterious. It is the control center of the body and it s important to understand the complexity of
the human brain. Although your brain functions as a whole, it consists of three main parts, The
Central Core, the Limbic System, and the Cerebral Cortex. Then those parts break into even smaller
parts. The brain is just like the computer, it depends on certain parts to work correctly and get every
day jobs and even more complex jobs done.
The Central Core The Central Core is the first of the three main parts of the brain. It is also broken
up into five main parts that help us do the everyday simple things in life like, ... Show more content

The Limbic system is separated in three parts, the Hippocampus, the Amygdala, and the
Hypothalamus. The Hippocampus s role is controlling emotion, learning, and memory; while the
Amygdala controls aggression, eating, drinking, and sexual behaviors. Then you have the
Hypothalamus which monitors the blood levels of glucose, salt, blood pressure, and hormones. It
also helps to control the processes in the body through its connection to the central and autonomic
nervous systems and endocrine system.
The Cerebral Cortex
The Cerebral Cortex directs the brain s higher cognitive and emotional functions. It is divided into
two equal halves called cerebral hemispheres. Each hemisphere has the same four areas called lobes.
Areas in the lobes control all forms of conscious experience, perception, emotion, thought, and
planning, as well as many unconscious and emotional processes. The frontal lobe helps in motor
control and cognitive activities, like planning, making decisions, setting goals, and relating the
present to the future through purpose. The parietal lobe controls the sensory process, spatial
interpretation, attention, and language understanding. The occipital lobe controls the process of
visual information and passes its conclusions to the parietal and temporal lobes. This leads me to
the temporal lobe which assists in auditory perception, language comprehension, and visual
recognition.
If the central core, limbic system or cerebral cortex fails the brain will not be

Amy Winehouse Back To Black Analysis
Amy Winehouse Back to Black
Amy Winehouse is an old soul who inspired a new sound in a modern age. She manipulated
classical jazz with her hip hop influences and her strong unique voice with lyrics from her life
experiences. These factors made her music unique and inspiring. Sadly in July of 2011, Amy
passed away at the young age of twenty seven, leaving behind her musical legacy. Back to Black is
one of her most popular albums that shows off her beautiful voice and thoughtful composition.
Due to its unique traits in modern music, it will continue to be played. This album is truly a work
of art based on Amy s use of meaningful lyrics in her songs, her strong unique voice, and her
particular take on jazz. I feel that Back to Black is an outstanding ... Show more content on

I think this album is marvelous for a few reasons, one being her lyrics. The lyrics express
struggles within Amy s life that can be considered controversial. Amy would express and
confront her troubles in a fearless way within each song, which makes her music even more
wonderful. In the documentary film, Amy, they quoted her saying, I wouldn t write anything
unless it was directly personal to me, just cause I wouldn t be able to tell the story right because
I wouldn t have done it. Even though the songs are personal, in a sad way, I d never let it just be
that. I d always put in a punch line in the song just trying to be different with my lyrics
(Winehouse). She spoke the truth and showed her sincere attitude, which made her vulnerable,
but made her real and unique. Amy s main experience that effected the lyrics that she wrote was
her ordeal with her ex husband Blake. Her experience with Blake was clearly shown in the song
Back to Black when Amy sang You went back to what you knew, so far removed from all that
we went through (Winehouse), which conveys the way Amy felt when Blake left her to go back
to his girlfriend. Another reason why I believe this album is outstanding is due to Amy s
powerful and distinctive voice. Her voice is strong and charismatic. Her vocal style compares to
that of a sixties soul singer. Amy s tone and mood is expressed clearly through her voice. Even
when she wasn t singing her lyrics, the sounds she made within her songs expressed the mood.
Her voice glints with possibility: tart, smoky, ready to flirt or sob, and capable of the jazzy
timing of a Dinah Washington or the declamation of soul singers like Martha Reeves and Carla
Thomas (Pareles). The main reason why I find this album most successful is that there is no other
album out there that sounds similar. Ms. Winehouse has grown up on hip hop s version of R B,
which chops the old dramatic

As the risk of global warming is increasing every day, people are exposed to the different kinds of
radiations that may have the ability to alter the normal cell functions. Cells functions normally
when they are able to maintain the balance in regulatory environmental conditions. Any disturbance
in such balance will lead the cells to cross the boundary of normal function (Guriji1 et. al, 2001). In

The essay Under the Influence by Scott Russell Sanders, the author is sketching how growing up in
a family with an alcoholic father affected his upbringing to adulthood as a husband and father. He
remembers his father behavior, how he gradually transformed from a good competent man to a
shameful, bungling drunk. The essay can be outlined in eight separate scenarios, which they will

Guilt In Art Spiegelman s Maus
Being Jewish during the Holocaust must be terrifying. Overcoming all odds of being put into a
ghetto guarded by a Gestapo and being transferred into a concentration camp to be put into intense
labor is pure luck, but not for Vladek Spiegelman. In Art Spiegelman s Graphic Novel Maus, a
comic book not only about Vladek s first hand experience through the Holocaustbut also a
relationship of a father and son. This relationship is an important narrative all through Maus, and
this influences the feeling of guilt. Two different kinds of guilt are presented in this book: a
familial guilt, and the survivor s guilt.
In Maus, a specific relevance is a familial guilt that connects to the family. Artie s feeling of not
being a son to his father, which feeling guilty happens throughout in the book. In the first couple
of chapters of Maus: My Father Bleeds History, we see that Vladek and Artie don t get along. They
both live close together, yet they don t visit each other. When they speak to one another, their tone
sound like an argument is about to break out. Arguments is an often occurrence, for instance, Artie s
cigarette ashes on the carpet, or Vladek s discovery that Artie has burned his mother s diaries from
the war. His father frequently ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How The Diaspora Helped Violence Essay
How the Diaspora helped Violence Having established the motives for the Diaspora aiding the
nationalist, now it needs to be analyzed what the diaspora actually did to aid the nationalist
movement. The aid can be broken down into three categories, financial, political and physical
aid. The first and the biggest being financial aid and this type of aid was collected by members
of the Irish Diaspora in the US then given to various different nationalist groups. Seldom was the
money given to violent groups like the IRA but instead was given to other groups and in turn led
to the purchasing of arms or goods and stuff like that which the IRA could use. One of the major
organizations that did this was Noraid or Irish Northern Aid. The true purpose of Noraid dealt
with arms smuggling and fund raising and thus were closely aligned and allied with the
IRA(Brian Hanley 2004:1). The support for Noraid in terms of funding can be tracked in the
same exact way that the general diasporatic support can be tracked. The hunger strikes of 1980
81, in which IRA prisoners staged a hunger strike to protest conditions in their prison in which a
few of them died, was monumental in the history of Noraid because it led to not only an increase
of donation which in turn were given to IRA and groups like it but it also changed the image of
Noraid in the US. It led to an increase in membership and made the organization less radical which
meant that it year by year would have generally more memberships and

A Summary Of Vildar s Fight
Vildar flexed his fingers and put his elbow on the table. Tiber Grist shrugged and followed suit.
Arm wrestling. That s what the game is. Thought Holt. Probably not the best move Vildar had
made, especially drunk and against an opponent who was bigger and stronger than him. But
strength was not always the winner in these things, a little cunning always helped, and that s what
Holt hoped to adopt.
They took their positions, hands interlocking. Tiber Grist grinned crookedly at his challenger.
Immediately Vildar s arm was driven back. Holt watched as his muscles locked taking the strain.

Holt had lied. In fact, he was very good at this. Eldon and himself often arm wrestled for fun, and
like Grist, Eldon was bigger and stronger than him.
But he did not need to win. For this plan to work. He needed to lose.
He took the strain, forcing the other Gnomes arm backwards. He might mean to lose the game but
it did not mean he was going to make it easy for Grist.
Holt continued to force the arm back. A look of startled surprise crossed Tiber Grist s features. A
bead of sweat ran down his face and dripped off the nose ring.
Slowly Holt released the pressure. Not enough to cause suspicion, just enough to let Grist think he
was gaining the upper hand.
Around them the other Gnome s bayed and chanted, slapping their hands and beer jugs on the
wooden benches.
Gradually Grist wrestled Holt s arm back until it was inches above the tabletop. Holt held it there,
showing the strain on his face. Then he let it go. Tiber Grist grinned in triumph. Well done, for a

Mary Wollstonecraft Impact On Feminism
Mary Wollstonecraft was one of the earliest pioneers of feminism. Plagued by a series of
misfortunate events, she carried her lessons with her to her grave. Through Mary s education,
career, and life experiences, she proclaimed her radical ideas about education and marriage without
shame and was heralded by some as the first feminist.
Mary Wollstonecraft was born to her parents, Edward and Elizabeth Wollstonecraft, in London on
April 27, 1759. Though Edward could have chosen to stay with his father s successful business as

Gun Control Personal Dilemmas
I m writing to you today as a concerned citizen of district four. I have recently been looking into
different views and perspectives on gun violence, and ways to help solve the issue in the United
States without having it limit citizen s right to bear arms. After the shooting in Las Vegas in early
October where almost sixty people were left dead and five hundred others were injured, I was
questioning the current policies and views of guncontrol in America (Times 2017). Some people
believe that as a country we should prohibit the right of people to have their own weaponry,
however, I feel like that is very unfair for those that go through all of the cautious steps to owning a
firearm. Others believe that no matter what is done the outcome will not actually help us as a
nation, and that there will forever be instances where mass shootings like Las Vegas s will occur.
Overall, I was looking for a way to help find a solution to limit the outburst of gun violence without
limiting the rights of citizens. While reading your views I completely agree with your stance that
there should be more background checks on individuals who want to obtain firearmsand that there
should be a way to allow law abiding citizens their rights to guns (Price). I was hoping to explain
to you a few different ideas I have thought about to help allow people their right to bear arms but
also make it safer for everyone at the same time.

Case Study Of The Melamine Milk Crisis In China
Preventative crises occur again and again for various reasons. One of the main reasons is because
managers and top level business executives desire for profits without regard to sound moral
principles (Crandall, Parnell, Spillan, 2014). Unfortunately, this in itself can trigger an
organizational crisis. This problem appears in many forms, but the results are usually the same: an
organizational crisis of some type, stakeholders who have been hurt, and prevention that would
have cost pennies in comparison to the damage done (Crandall et al., 2014). A classic case of
unethical decision making and lack of crisis management concerns the MelamineMilk Crisis in
China.
This case begins with a Chinese company, the Sanlu Group, who was purchasing milk for use in its
baby formula. Over time employees of the Sanlu Group discovered the milk their company was
purchasing, was tainted with melamine (Crandall et al., 2014). Melamine is a product generally
used to make plastics and laminates. Unfortunately, management personnel working for the Sanlu
Group was unaware of the tainted substance being illegally added to the milk. However, the
melamine product is a life threatening product that can cause kidney stones and renal failure once it
is consumed. Although the melamine boosted the protein rating of the milk, it was illegally added
to the milk (Crandall et al., 2014).
Still unaware of the danger the melamine laced milk was causing to infants, the Sanlu Group

Films are almost always centred around people, or aliens or animals with human like qualities.
The purpose of film is storytelling, and the best of storytellers allow their listeners to see the world

where they see fit. Harold and Maudeis no different. Despite its age, the 1971 cult classic Harold

representing simplicity and death. For the first 30 minutes of the film, there is barley a hint of
any bright colour to be seen, aside from the white walls of Harold s psychiatrist s office. Here,
black is the obvious symbol of death which encompasses the main points of the movie and
becomes easily associated with Harold, the boy obsessed with death (the white, instead of
representing purity in its traditional sense, can represent sanitization or a sort of cleansing that his
psychiatrist is trying to impose upon Harold). Clothing wise, Maude s outfits are either stand out
colours like those she wears to funerals, or earthy tones, which could have been forth with the
intention that Maude is one with the earth, as her character is routinely trying to help the planet,
for example when she would protest in her youth and in the moving of the tree from the city to a
forest. Of course, because of Maude, Harold abandons his darkened suits and ties and adopts a
more youthful, colourful wardrobe, his clothes reflect him coming back to life so to

School Counselor Interview
Making the decision to make a difference
According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook published by the Bureau of Labor the
employment of school and career counselors is projected to grow 8 percent from 2014 to 2024,
about as fast as the average for all occupations. Increasing school enrollments should lead to
employment growth of school and career counselors .
Having the opportunity to interview Feliza Martinez, a University of California, Irvine graduate

Essay on Technology in the Classroom
Technology in the Classroom
Over the years many new technologies have been key factors in the process of learning. Fifty
years ago when someone would need to research a subject the only sources were books and
classes, when someone needed to do a math problem they had their brain, paper or an abacus to use,
and interpersonal communication was limited to how loud you could talk, how detailed a letter you
could write, or how long you could afford to pay for long distance phone calls. Now we have the
calculator, internet, and computer that help children, as well as adults, learn faster and easier. The
assistance of these technologies has helped to further research beyond what many thought possible.

Solar powered calculators first came out in 1976 77. They became common in the mid 1980s and
now have become the most common. Calculators today have the time alarm feature, computations
in multiple languages, solar power, the buttons are multitasked, and overall have more functions. A
cheap calculator today is only $2 or $3 and a more functional calculator could be $90.
Computers over the past decades have gone through tremendous changes. In 1960 the first
commercial computer was introduced as the first minicomputer that only consisted of a
keyboard and monitor (Polsson, 2003). It was not until 1963 that Douglas Engelbart, of the
Stanford Research Institute, invented the mouse. Five years later he demonstrated the
keyboard, keypad, mouse, and windows together at the Fall Joint Computer Conference. Also at
this conference he demonstrated word processor, a hypertext system, and a dynamic file linking
(Polsson, 2003). Honeywell in 1969 released the Kitchen Computer, the first home computer, at
the price of $10,600. IBM, also in that year, built SCAMP, one of the world s first personal
computers, now more commonly called PCs (Polsson, 2003). The first floppy disk which was an
eight inch plastic disk called a memory disk was introduced by IBM in 1967 (Brown, 2003). In
1976 the 5.25 inch floppy disk was produced; another floppy disk, the 3.5 inch, was created in the
1980s (Brown, 2003).

The Sniper Essay
The Sniper
The Sniper places a strong emphasis on the evils of war, and yet paints a vivid image of mankind
s qualities and their society. Employing the technique of describing one particular sniper to
symbolise a general subject, readers are able to gain a deep insight into the evils of war. In this story,
the assembly of setting, contrasting characters and themes of fanaticism and division of loyalties
are vital to conveying the horror of war. On the other hand, The Sniper also discusses the power of
war, depicting it as the decider of life and death for men. Its force is further emphasised when
neighbours are turned into enemies under war s influence.

Characters in ВЎВ§The SniperВЎВЁ are limited in terms of type and variety to show that war
brings out only people who possesses a passion to kill and have the courage to be killed. The
story focuses on only one sniper and we, the readers use the incident from his point of view. The
only characters that are mentioned are the sniper, another sniper, his enemy and an old woman.
Apart from the old woman, all other characters are men who represent figures of war and are
present to do nothing but kill. They are seekers of death and bring about a web of deaths. The
manner in which these men ВЎВ§reignВЎВЁ over the city by killing, and that ordinary dwellers

The theme of death and violence is another important segment in indicating the evils of war. Each

the view of the sniper, the peopleВЎВ¦s lives are centred around killing and death. Lifestyle, even

The Specialization Of A Business Model Essay
The Specialization Business
Like the other models the specialization business model can be conflated with freelancers, solution
based businesses, and also first to market models. Like the solution based model, the specialization
model can be scaled up or built with the purpose of being sold. This kind of business model is a
step beyond the solution idea and combines the freelancer and the solution provider. One could
even argue that this is a matured version of the solution business. Whether the specialization
business focuses on a good or a service, the specialization model typically has extremely
proprietary knowledge and techniques which cannot be easily replicated by competing firms.
Often, patents and complex legal barriers to entry are established to protect the specialist s
natural advantages. Elements of the freelance, solution, debt, and first to market business models
are present in specialization models, but I classify this as a unique model of its own because the
owners must protect their secrets yet clone themselves to scale up. There are countless legacy
businesses built on industry secrets, and proprietary knowledge. McDonalds, Chick Fil A, and
Kentucky Fried Chicken were all founded on very specialized formulas and techniques that even to
this day are exceptionally protected. Completely opposite firms like DutchBoy paint, and computer
platform firms like Oracle can also be considered specialization businesses and also have their own
secrets to

Argumentative Essay About Legalizing Marijuana
What really happens when you legalize marijuana? What would happen to America if it was
legal? The effects of this drug on the people who use it and America is a very serious topic. Some
think that that because of the positive effects of marijuana means it should be available to
everyone. In contrast the effects of this drug is detrimental to a person s health and should be
illegal. It causes lung cancerand other breathing problems. In younger adults it causes their
brains to not properly and it can have long term effects on the body. However this drug helps
with terminal illnesses, nausea and stimulating appetite. There are times when this drug is
needed and very useful. The constant argument on whether to legalize marijuana for everyone or
keep it illegal and only used for medical purposes needs to come to a close. While a large and
growing number of people want to legalize it because of its medical uses, the side effects of this
drug cause cancer and development problems; the disadvantages clearly outweigh the advantages of
it. Marijuana is currently and should stay illegal.

Power And Control Within The Novel Wild Geese
In Martha Ostenso s Wild Geese, there are many issues surrounding power and control throughout
the novel. Many of these issues are because of the main character Caleb, and the control he holds
over many other characters. There are three main issues associated with power and control in the
novel: The powerCaleb holds creates fearand hatred for him from other characters in the novel. The
power he holds also causes his children to dream about things in another life and become rebellious
against Caleb s wishes. Finally, Caleb s control and power ruins him as a character and he suffers
from nemeses. These issues surrounding power and control are important to characterization, plot
development, and the relationships and conflicts between characters.
The first issue related to power and control in Wild Geese is the fear and hatred many characters
have for Caleb because of his need to have authority throughout the novel. An example of fear for
Caleb is the fear Amelia has for her husband. Amelia is scared of Caleb and what he will do to
her if she challenges his power over her. Amelia was justified in fearing Caleb if he held any
damaging knowledge about her (117). This shows that Caleb has control over Amelia, and the
characters in the novel know that he will not hesitate to ruin someone s life if he feels he needs to,
no matter what the relationship is he has with them. Amelia is also the one that has the power over
the children. Throughout Wild Geese she is the one that

Black Churches were extremely importan to African Americans from the years of slavery to this

American communities. The biracial churches the Awakening spawned had never embraced
African Americans on an equal basis with white people, and as time passed, white people denied
black peoplesignificant influence in church governance (pg. 101). Richard Allen and Absalom
Jones would lead a movement and gain permission to use a church at evening times to preach to
blacks. They would be forced out and need to establish a church of their own. White leaders would

The most important black community instutions were the churches and they served as a building to

After the Civil War, African Amerians organized their own churches and religious denominations.
The church was integral to the lives of most black people. It fulfilled spiritual needs through
sermons and music (pg. 319). These churches would also help the sick, the bereaved, and those in
need when they didn t even have the money to spare. The church service itself was the most
important aspect of religious life for most black congregations (319).

Brick Street Arts Bash Business Analysis
Despite the somewhat cold weather, downtown Marietta radiated a vibrant atmosphere on April 22
for the inaugural Brick Street Arts Bash. In coordination with Marshall Kimball and the Marietta
College Music Department, along with the Leader in Residence program through the McDonough
Center, the People s Bank Theater contributed tremendously to the success of the festival;
predominantly in terms of publicizing to the community and offering a performance venue. Within
this essay, I will discuss how the People s Bank Theatre exhibited Drucker s idea of social
responsibility, as described by William Cohen, with specific regard to its involvement with the
Brick Street Arts Bash.
To begin, the idea of this event spawned from the brain of the Music Department chair Marshall
Kimball in his proposal for the Leader in Residence program. Initially a small event for arts
advocacy, the bash blossomed into a community wide event with three stages of live entertainment,
fantastic art displays, and a number of children s activities all for free. As the event grew into its
final product, the People s Bank Theatre cooperated quite nicely with the music department to
ensure success, whether it be passing out flyers in the program for other shows or providing the
performers a comfortable space ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

to know the traumatic physical pain the character had to go through, and that s not even taking

Cannibalism Can Be Defined As The Intentional Consumption...
Cannibalism can be defined as the intentional consumption of the flesh or organs of a member of
one s own species. According to National Geographic, the term Cannibal originates from the
Carib Indians of the Caribbean. The Carib Indians were accused by their neighboring people as
being very fierce and of eating people. The Spanish had a problem pronouncing the letter r in Carib,
so they pronounced it as Canib and eventually Canibales . Cannibalismis a real taboo of western
society and the mere thought of it brings about a combination of fascination and revulsion. Most
anthropologists today believe that the practice of cannibalism has been a part of human
behavior long before it actually became recorded as history. Throughout history, human beings
have dined on human flesh. Whether it was part of war to gain the enemy s strength, or as a
means to terrify opponents, cannibalism goes back a long way. These days we mostly see
cannibalism in the form or sadistic serial killers or mentally deranged people performing an
animalistic act. We fail to look into the societies where cannibalism is a cultural norm and is an
example of functionalism. There are an abundance of civilizations that took part in cannibalistic
acts. There are different reasons for different societies practicing cannibalism including dealing
with enemies, to grieve the loss of loved ones, to gain powers or attributes from the deceased, and
ridding the body of demons. Some groups took part in a

  • 2. Liberal Arts Bubble Essay Martin Luther King Junior said, Intelligence plus character that is the goal of true education. Higher education does not exist for the sole purpose of preparing students for future jobs; it s there in order to prepare individuals for life where they are expected to participate in their community, their government, and the lives of those around them. Liberal arts, in particular, exist for the broadening of students minds in order for them to be successful not only in their chosen career but also in their lives outside of it. Liberal arts lost their past popularity during the last few decades, but they shouldn t be disregarded in favor of technical and professional degrees because they still provide students with skills that are perhaps less tangible, but no less necessary for life in modern world. First and foremost there needs to be an established understanding of what liberal arts are. In the article Why Choose Liberal Arts? Mark William Roche explains that liberal arts were originally intended for free men, those who weren t being educated for the sole purpose of gaining a livelihood, but rather for the sake of being educated and included things like grammar, rhetoric, arithmetic, music and astronomy. He then goes on to clarify the meaning of liberal arts today as a general education that is a broad grounding in the diverse disciplines. • 3. Obesity Is The Reason Our Youth Introduction Childhood obesity has been on a steady incline over the past 30 years and is considered a serious public health concern, especially in elementary school aged children. According to the US Surgeon General, nearly one in three children are overweight or obese (US Department of Human Health Services, 2014). The American Heart Association (2010) has age and sex specific growth charts that show the calculation of children s BMI using their height and weight. When children s weight is well above the average for their height and age they are classified as obese. Children BMI for age is in the 95th percentile or higher is considered to be obese. Obese children normally consume more energy in the form of food and drinks then they burn off with physical exercise (Kids Health, 2014). Our nation s obesity epidemic effects are immense: taxpayers, communities, and families spend hundreds of billions of dollars each year in medical costs and attempts to end childhood obesity (Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, 2014). Obesity is the reason our youth is predicted to live shorter lives than our parents and we need to change this. Childhood obesity has long term harmful effects on a child s future health. Obese children are more likely to have high blood pressure and high cholesterol which put them more at risk for cardiovascular disease in the future (Center for Disease Control Prevention, 2014). • 4. Recycling Of Recycling Introduction In today s world recycling has become a major benefactor to preserving the environment and the world. One product, among many, being recycled has shown a huge increase in energy savings and costs, and that is aluminum. Using aluminum can pieces with KOH (potassium hydroxide) and other reactants will eventually lead to the production of alum. Materials and Methods Starting the experiment, 1.0184 g of aluminum pieces were weighed out on an analytical balance. The aluminum was then placed in a 250 mL beaker containing 50.1 mL of 1.4M potassium hydroxide. The solution was then heated on a hot plate set at 80ВєC for approximately 35 minutes with a spin of 240 RPM. At the end of the 35 minutes, the solution has become black in color and many of the pieces have broken down. The beaker was rinsed with 10 mL of distilled water after the mixture was poured through the BГјchner funnel of the aspirator. The filtrate was put into a clean 250 mL beaker to be added with 20.5 mL of 6.0M sulfuric acid, stirred slowly when added. The reaction was then put into a 1L beaker Вѕ full of ice and water to kick start the reaction into making the alum crystals. The stirring rod was used to help activate the crystals. Once the making of the crystals had finished, it was poured into the filtration apparatus to separate the crystals from the solution. While the crystals were drying, the watch glass was weighed at 57.1161 g on the analytical balance. After the crystals where dry, they were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Reasons behind LucasВґ Suicide in Good Hair Essay There are three reasons Lucas commits suicide, and each reason teaches an important lesson to Alice. The first reason is that Lucas felt that he had no identity and did not fit in with his peers and other social groups. Secondly, Lucas was not able to commit to relationships. The final reason is that Lucas felt a lot of guilt for attempting to rape Alice. While all of these reasons negatively affected Lucas and were the reasons behind his suicide, they also taught Alice valuable lessons which allowed her to make improvements to her life. If it was not for the lessons in identity, cultural perspective, and self worth, Alice would not have been able to move forward with the changes in her life. In the story of Good Hair, Lucas lack of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Growing up, she felt that she did not fit in with the black girls who berated her on the fashions of the white magazines that she wore every day to school. It wasn t until she started to embrace the stuck up group of girls in her school, that she could feel safe from being bullied. The notion of her childhood from her parents that the son should be smart and go to school while she should be satisfied because, ...it was enough, they said, that I was pretty . The death of Lucas allowed her to see that she had more control in figuring out where she belongs as a successful writer . In Alice s relationship with Miles, she had to submit to his will and not live a life that was fulfilling. The pleasures and the fashion that came with Miles money, did not make her feel complete. In the same way, Lucas death teaches Alice that she should not settle on things that did not add to her self worth. With Alice s identity, the role of fashion has always been a factor in her family s identity for her as a child. This role of fashion and beauty is also present in her understanding of the culture of black women in the tribe. As with the example of her grandmother who was abused by her grandfather with being a beauty , Alice has learned from her family history that the preconceptions of what beauty is should not be something to shy away from or to use the term beauty as a way to fill the void in the way she lives her life. • 6. How To Acid Affect My Mood Tracked Data and Hypothesis: First, I decided to track my sleep and how it affects my mood because I wanted to determine if there was an amount of sleep which helped me have a positive mood. This could be useful, especially during the school year, to help me have a positive outlook amidst a stressful atmosphere. I hypothesized that not getting enough sleep, as well as, sleeping too much will have a negative affect on my mood. However, I also included outside influences because no matter how much sleep I get on a certain day, if something negative happens I will most likely let it affect my mood. While compiling my data for this assignment I also stopped taking oral contraceptives which greatly impacted my menstrual cycle. Because of this, I also decided to track my cycle and determine what hormones would be the highest on what days. Since my cycle was thrown off by almost two weeks, I wanted to see if these hormones also affect my mood. I then hypothesized that the different hormones during menstruation negatively affect my mood. Description of Data:... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, if I had an exciting event on or after that day, my mood would be affected in a positive way. I could not easily determine what amount of sleep was too much. On days where I got 8 hours of sleep or more there was a split correlation between a positive mood and a negative mood. I missed the amount of sleep I got on the 15th because I worked an overnight shift and slept strange times. I included any inferences I could think of to help determine if outside factors played a larger role on my mood than the amount of sleep I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Vaccines are the most successful strategies in medicine to prevent and even eliminate the most gruesome and contagious diseases. For centuries, smallpoxtraumatized the human race. Today, smallpox is not something we automatically think of when somebody gets a rash or have the chills, thanks to Edward Jenner. The first successful smallpox vaccine was introduced by Jenner in 1796. Although, Jenner s portrayed the first scientific attempt to control this deadly disease, later in the 19th century it was perceived that the vaccinationdid not grant immunity for the rest a victim s life. As the 19th century came to an end, the smallpox vaccine became more advanced and more depended on. Eventually, Artler was buried in a landslide. This eventually turned him into an atom of carbon in coal. He now carries on with his adventure in the lithosphere of fossil fuels. Artler is now living his life happily as a piece of coalin the lithosphere. He has been here for millions of years once again, just like with the pinyon tree. As a piece of coal, Artler was burned in a stove to warm a nice happy family. Now, Artler is becoming carbonin the form of CO2. Finally, he will lie in the atmosphere all by himself. Artler is not just any limestone, for he is Kaibab Limestone. He remains here for millions of years. However, sadly, he is mined in order to make cement. During this process, CO2 is released into the atmosphere. Once more, Artler is sent up into the atmosphere. Artler is in the atmosphere for one last final time. He remains here for about 62 years as CO2. He is finally absorbed by a plant once more. Here, he becomes part of the plant through photosynthesis. The other states in North America would never allow this freedom. Music was everywhere in New Orleans: churches, funerals, celebrations, parades, the French opera. Jazz music plays a significant role in funerals because it provides comfort. Slow, traditional tunes would be played to mourn over the death of a loved one. Once some words are exchanged over the dead, the jazz becomes more up beat and turns into a celebration. This change in beat signifies that, although the people are sad they had to let the person go, they are happy they actually got to know them (Lee). Even Salatin points out that rural schools encourage the smarter ones to go to college and the low scoring students stay behind to help on the farm. Basically, it s a foolish culture that entrusts its food supply to simpletons (Pollan 221). Coming from a rural school, I see this being true, but I also have to disagree with Salatin because they may not be the smartest, but they sure do know a lot about corn. The second section to be reviewed is chapter thirteen. In this chapter, Pollan sees how Salatin sells his food and how it compares to other supermarkets. Compared to other supermarkets, Polyface Farm s food is more expensive; however, Salatin argues that it is actually, if fact, cheaper. He believes that because it is produced without subsidies and it is more sustainable compared to industrial food. Consumers also have a reason for choosing Salatin s food over other supermarkets. They believe that his chicken tastes better and would rather pay for quality, which it seems many people do not want to do today. This album is truly a work of art based on Amy s use of meaningful lyrics in her songs, her strong unique voice, and her particular take on jazz. I feel that Back to Black is an outstanding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I think this album is marvelous for a few reasons, one being her lyrics. The lyrics express struggles within Amy s life that can be considered controversial. Amy would express and confront her troubles in a fearless way within each song, which makes her music even more wonderful. In the documentary film, Amy, they quoted her saying, I wouldn t write anything unless it was directly personal to me, just cause I wouldn t be able to tell the story right because I wouldn t have done it. Even though the songs are personal, in a sad way, I d never let it just be that. I d always put in a punch line in the song just trying to be different with my lyrics (Winehouse). She spoke the truth and showed her sincere attitude, which made her vulnerable, but made her real and unique. Amy s main experience that effected the lyrics that she wrote was her ordeal with her ex husband Blake. Her experience with Blake was clearly shown in the song Back to Black when Amy sang You went back to what you knew, so far removed from all that we went through (Winehouse), which conveys the way Amy felt when Blake left her to go back to his girlfriend. Another reason why I believe this album is outstanding is due to Amy s powerful and distinctive voice. Her voice is strong and charismatic. Her vocal style compares to that of a sixties soul singer. Amy s tone and mood is expressed clearly through her voice. Even when she wasn t singing her lyrics, the sounds she made within her songs expressed the mood. Her voice glints with possibility: tart, smoky, ready to flirt or sob, and capable of the jazzy timing of a Dinah Washington or the declamation of soul singers like Martha Reeves and Carla Thomas (Pareles). The main reason why I find this album most successful is that there is no other album out there that sounds similar. Ms. Winehouse has grown up on hip hop s version of R B, which chops the old dramatic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Jamuna Kadariya Biology 2458 016 TA: Dylan B Parks October 14,2015 Introduction As the risk of global warming is increasing every day, people are exposed to the different kinds of radiations that may have the ability to alter the normal cell functions. Two different kinds of guilt are presented in this book: a familial guilt, and the survivor s guilt. In Maus, a specific relevance is a familial guilt that connects to the family. Artie s feeling of not being a son to his father, which feeling guilty happens throughout in the book. In the first couple of chapters of Maus: My Father Bleeds History, we see that Vladek and Artie don t get along. They both live close together, yet they don t visit each other. • 32. How The Diaspora Helped Violence Essay How the Diaspora helped Violence Having established the motives for the Diaspora aiding the nationalist, now it needs to be analyzed what the diaspora actually did to aid the nationalist movement. The aid can be broken down into three categories, financial, political and physical aid. The first and the biggest being financial aid and this type of aid was collected by members of the Irish Diaspora in the US then given to various different nationalist groups. Seldom was the money given to violent groups like the IRA but instead was given to other groups and in turn led to the purchasing of arms or goods and stuff like that which the IRA could use. One of the major organizations that did this was Noraid or Irish Northern Aid. The true purpose of Noraid dealt with arms smuggling and fund raising and thus were closely aligned and allied with the IRA(Brian Hanley 2004:1). The support for Noraid in terms of funding can be tracked in the same exact way that the general diasporatic support can be tracked. The hunger strikes of 1980 81, in which IRA prisoners staged a hunger strike to protest conditions in their prison in which a few of them died, was monumental in the history of Noraid because it led to not only an increase of donation which in turn were given to IRA and groups like it but it also changed the image of Noraid in the US. It led to an increase in membership and made the organization less radical which meant that it year by year would have generally more memberships and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I have recently been looking into different views and perspectives on gun violence, and ways to help solve the issue in the United States without having it limit citizen s right to bear arms. After the shooting in Las Vegas in early October where almost sixty people were left dead and five hundred others were injured, I was questioning the current policies and views of guncontrol in America (Times 2017). Some people believe that as a country we should prohibit the right of people to have their own weaponry, however, I feel like that is very unfair for those that go through all of the cautious steps to owning a firearm. Others believe that no matter what is done the outcome will not actually help us as a nation, and that there will forever be instances where mass shootings like Las Vegas s will occur. Overall, I was looking for a way to help find a solution to limit the outburst of gun violence without limiting the rights of citizens. While reading your views I completely agree with your stance that there should be more background checks on individuals who want to obtain firearmsand that there should be a way to allow law abiding citizens their rights to guns (Price). • 38. Case Study Of The Melamine Milk Crisis In China Preventative crises occur again and again for various reasons. One of the main reasons is because managers and top level business executives desire for profits without regard to sound moral principles (Crandall, Parnell, Spillan, 2014). Unfortunately, this in itself can trigger an organizational crisis. This problem appears in many forms, but the results are usually the same: an organizational crisis of some type, stakeholders who have been hurt, and prevention that would have cost pennies in comparison to the damage done (Crandall et al., 2014). A classic case of unethical decision making and lack of crisis management concerns the MelamineMilk Crisis in China. This case begins with a Chinese company, the Sanlu Group, who was purchasing milk for use in its baby formula. Over time employees of the Sanlu Group discovered the milk their company was purchasing, was tainted with melamine (Crandall et al., 2014). Melamine is a product generally used to make plastics and laminates. Unfortunately, management personnel working for the Sanlu Group was unaware of the tainted substance being illegally added to the milk. However, the melamine product is a life threatening product that can cause kidney stones and renal failure once it is consumed. Although the melamine boosted the protein rating of the milk, it was illegally added to the milk (Crandall et al., 2014). Still unaware of the danger the melamine laced milk was causing to infants, the Sanlu Group continued to purchase the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Across different cultures, different colours represent different things. Because of how American this movie is, Harold and Maude take on a north American colour scheme when trying to represent ideas on screen. At the beginning of the movie, dominant colours are black and white, representing simplicity and death. For the first 30 minutes of the film, there is barley a hint of any bright colour to be seen, aside from the white walls of Harold s psychiatrist s office. Here, black is the obvious symbol of death which encompasses the main points of the movie and becomes easily associated with Harold, the boy obsessed with death (the white, instead of representing purity in its traditional sense, can represent sanitization or a sort of cleansing that his psychiatrist is trying to impose upon Harold). Clothing wise, Maude s outfits are either stand out colours like those she wears to funerals, or earthy tones, which could have been forth with the intention that Maude is one with the earth, as her character is routinely trying to help the planet, for example when she would protest in her youth and in the moving of the tree from the city to a forest. • 50. Power And Control Within The Novel Wild Geese In Martha Ostenso s Wild Geese, there are many issues surrounding power and control throughout the novel. Many of these issues are because of the main character Caleb, and the control he holds over many other characters. There are three main issues associated with power and control in the novel: The powerCaleb holds creates fearand hatred for him from other characters in the novel. The power he holds also causes his children to dream about things in another life and become rebellious against Caleb s wishes. Finally, Caleb s control and power ruins him as a character and he suffers from nemeses. These issues surrounding power and control are important to characterization, plot development, and the relationships and conflicts between characters. The first issue related to power and control in Wild Geese is the fear and hatred many characters have for Caleb because of his need to have authority throughout the novel. An example of fear for Caleb is the fear Amelia has for her husband. Amelia is scared of Caleb and what he will do to her if she challenges his power over her. Amelia was justified in fearing Caleb if he held any damaging knowledge about her (117). This shows that Caleb has control over Amelia, and the characters in the novel know that he will not hesitate to ruin someone s life if he feels he needs to, no matter what the relationship is he has with them. Amelia is also the one that has the power over the children. Throughout Wild Geese she is the one that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In coordination with Marshall Kimball and the Marietta College Music Department, along with the Leader in Residence program through the McDonough Center, the People s Bank Theater contributed tremendously to the success of the festival; predominantly in terms of publicizing to the community and offering a performance venue. Within this essay, I will discuss how the People s Bank Theatre exhibited Drucker s idea of social responsibility, as described by William Cohen, with specific regard to its involvement with the Brick Street Arts Bash. To begin, the idea of this event spawned from the brain of the Music Department chair Marshall Kimball in his proposal for the Leader in Residence program. Initially a small event for arts advocacy, the bash blossomed into a community wide event with three stages of live entertainment, fantastic art displays, and a number of children s activities all for free. As the event grew into its final product, the People s Bank Theatre cooperated quite nicely with the music department to ensure success, whether it be passing out flyers in the program for other shows or providing the performers a comfortable space ... According to National Geographic, the term Cannibal originates from the Carib Indians of the Caribbean. The Carib Indians were accused by their neighboring people as being very fierce and of eating people. The Spanish had a problem pronouncing the letter r in Carib, so they pronounced it as Canib and eventually Canibales . Cannibalismis a real taboo of western society and the mere thought of it brings about a combination of fascination and revulsion. Most anthropologists today believe that the practice of cannibalism has been a part of human behavior long before it actually became recorded as history. Throughout history, human beings have dined on human flesh. Whether it was part of war to gain the enemy s strength, or as a means to terrify opponents, cannibalism goes back a long way. These days we mostly see cannibalism in the form or sadistic serial killers or mentally deranged people performing an animalistic act. We fail to look into the societies where cannibalism is a cultural norm and is an example of functionalism. There are an abundance of civilizations that took part in cannibalistic acts. There are different reasons for different societies practicing cannibalism including dealing with enemies, to grieve the loss of loved ones, to gain powers or attributes from the deceased, and ridding the body of demons.
