The Olympics s Impact On The Olympic Arena
Ever since its inception in 1896, the Modern Olympics has hosted an invisible sport: politics. The
Olympics calls for a halt to all conflicts ... [and to] strive towards a more peaceful world, but politics
soon spoiled its biennial message. As the Olympics continue to dissolve into ... a political competition
... they no longer ... justify the time and trouble, Dave Anderson, Pulitzer Prize winner for his sports
column, wrote in the New York Times in 1984. The Olympic spirit has routinely been used as an outlet
for political agendas. With political and Olympic ambitions intersected, the great international sports
festivity negatively affects all nations involved. World leaders frequently use the Olympic arena as a
stage for international ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Boycotting has been used throughout history as an instrument for foreign policy. For any Olympics to
be a true Olympics, all the world s nations should be represented, said Anderson. Not ... those ... on
one side or the other of political barbed wire. As a result of boycott, the essence of the games
competition diminished. At the 1980 Olympics where the United States decided to stay home, the
Soviet Union swept 195 medals the largest won in history followed by the United States in 1984 with
174 medals, when, by no surprise, the Soviets decided to miss. Ironically, the spirit of the Olympics
turned cold alongside the Cold War. [The domination as a result of boycott] diminished any
accomplishments in working hard, said Al Oerter, a four time Olympic gold medal winner. The
Olympic Games quickly turned into a game for politicians, not the athletes. James Montague, the 2009
Best New Writer, wrote in CNN that Carter s idea of a good, non military way of protesting the
invasion was not effective, with the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan lasting another eight years. The
1976 boycott was not effective either; the South African apartheid regime survived another eighteen
years. Boycotting did more damage at home than it did away: it proved horrible for the Olympic
movement and for athletes like Don Paige, a renowned track runner, who was left to watch the race he
knew he could win. The Olympics also experiences political terrorism, which

Lord Byron Manfred Quotes
Whether Manfred stands atop a mountain to contemplate suicide, or he speaks about his misery
slowing his perception of time into an eternity, the play Manfred seemingly contains examples of
hyper dramatic emotions. But why did Byron place such hyperbolic emotion in Manfred? What is the
point of these hyperbolic emotions? After a close analysis, they seem to exist for the accentuation of
Manfred s last line/the moral of the play: ... tis not so difficult to die (Byron 672). This line, in the
context of Manfred s vast misery and incredible tribulations, seems to mean that: death is easily
achieved; anyone can die. But living, through life s innate suffering, life s innate obstacles, is difficult.
However, with this interpreted moral stated, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This, in turn, accentuates Manfred s moral because, in life, Manfred must live with the guilt of killing
Astarte with perfect agency. Yet, in his death, there exists no agency to possess; Manfred, as an
autonomous person, no longer exists. He, therefore, no longer must deal with his burden of complete
autonomy. This contrast, it seems, supports and highlights the moral of the play: death is easily
achieved; anyone can die. But living, through life s innate suffering, life s innate obstacles, is difficult.
In sum, it seems clear that Lord Byron uses hyperbolic emotion as an implement to contrast Manfred s
life from his death. This, in turn, accentuates the moral of the play. But why are these accents
important to the moral? Could not the moral exist without these accents? Yes, but when one
pronounces something, that thing becomes more focused. It seems, then, that the important of these
hyperbolic emotions is their ability to make the moral more attainable. That, in the end, and in a
strategic sense, is the main purpose for these hyper dramatic emotions: they are tools to make a

The Legacy Of The Vietnam War
The Vietnam War is widely regarded as the lowest point in the history of U.S. foreign affairs. It
mercilessly dragged an unwilling country on a fatal ride for twenty years, all while receiving low
approval ratings and high funding. The Vietnam conflict served as an optimum environment for the
virus of controversy. No one has more experience with controversy than Heinz Alfred Kissinger. He is
the ultimate pragmatist, as embodying his philosophy of realpolitik, a diplomatic ideology based on
utilitarianism rather than international ethical standards. When one s political calling card downplays
the role of ethics in diplomacy, that individual is bound to garner a high profile reputation. Kissinger
himself has lamented the national predicament during this conflict squeezed between the ultimate
rock, his duty to keep peace, and hard place, his duty to act with the approval of the American people.
This predicament was rooted in an omnipresent opposition to Communism, as was America s role in
the entire Cold War. Cold War politics were politics of fear. That fear drove competition, which bred a
certain variety of leader a logical, calculating politician with regard for nothing but his country s
success. To avoid an uncontrollable spread of Communism through the westernized world, some
moral casualties were strewn about the wayside. However, the American public had no trouble rolling
up their collective sleeves to back this forward thinking activist. In more recent years, some

Monteverdi As An Epic Poem Analysis
Composing an opera seems like a daunting task, now imagine trying to take an Epic Poem and make it
into an opera, it seems almost like an ultimate challenge; a challenge only few would take on. One of
the most famous composers who took on this challenge was Claudio Giovanni Antonio Monteverdi
famously known only as Monteverdi, was one of the greatest composers of his time and he was able to
bring classical Greek Epic Poems to life. Even though Monteverdi was one of the greatest composers
of his times it must have been very daunting challenge to take a story that had been only really heard
and written down almost from interpretation from the Greeks and turn it into an Italian Opera. Another
challenge he may have faced was condensing the long Epic Poem so that the audience could sit
through the opera and still get the most important points of the Epic Poem. One of biggest problems
Monteverdi must have encountered was when he first began to compose the story of Ulysses there was
the challenge that it was in a completely different language. Homer wrote the Odyssey in Greek and
Monteverdi was Italian, to add to this the Greek Homer wrote the story in was completely different
from the Greek that the native people spoke. Even though the Odyssey was already being translated,
no one really knew how to translate Greek; it had been a langue that basically disappeared for some
time. This could have mean that some of the story could have literally been lost in translation, or the
Italian scholars could have added even some parts of the story accidently due to misinterpretation.
Monteverdi being one the greatest composers would have had to study the story of Ulysses and known
the story thoroughly no matter what translation he may have read or heard. Knowing the plot of the
story he would then have to match musical pieces to each of the characters, and there were many
characters in this Epic Poem, who were fundamental to this opera even more difficult to compose. Not
only did Monteverdi have to face a language barrier but also, he then had to keep in mind each
character Homer wrote about. Homer incorporated many people into the Odyssey, including
characters from his past works as well as the gods as they played a

Dionysian And Balance Essay
Apollonian Vs. Dionysian and balance
In Thomas Mann s book, Death in Venice , he uses symbolism throughout his book in order to display
many different complex ideas in simpler forms. This symbolism is often not immediately apparent,
and requires the reader to ruminate about the text. One of the key concepts repeatedly mentioned
throughout the book symbolically was Gustave Achenbach s fear of growing old, and his longing for a
youth he never got to have. We first saw this represented when he initially saw the old man on the
boat. Achenbach was at first completely disgusted with the man s appearance a reflection of what he
feared he might come to look like being described with the words repulsive, dull, shaky, and what
horrified him the most, old. However once he studied the man even closer, he saw reflected the
youthfulness he never had. Although he was thoroughly repulsed by the young old man, he was also
envious of the man; the man who was able to relive his youth long after it had left him. To Achenbach
this man was symbolic to what he desired to have, a youth, and as well to one of his greatest fears,
growing old. This desire for youthfulness and a childhood was also reflected in his early exposures
with Tadzio. Tadzio was a representation of everything Achenbach wished he had the opportunity to
live a blissful childhood, and most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Gender Socialization and Gender Roles Essay
Gender socialization and gender roles have always existed in society. When analyzing gender roles,
they are not always equal or consistent when comparing cultures, however, the expectations of
females and males are often times clearly defined with a little to no common area. The Japanese
culture is an example of the defined gender roles that change over time. According to Schafer (2010),
because gender roles are society s expectations of the proper behavior, attitudes, and activities of
males and females , they must be taught (p.357). These roles define how females and males are
viewed in society, their household, and workplace. When examining gender socialization in the
Japanese culture, it is important to analyze how gender roles are ... Show more content on

Handbooks were written for either men or women that shared gender codes that were not legal laws,
but established gender socializations that were taught at young ages. One handbook stated when a girl
is young, the chief duty of a girl living in the parental house is to practice filial piety toward her
mother and father (McClain, 2002, p. 94). Then once a woman is married, the new wife must look to
her husband as a lord and must serve him..... [and] when the husband issues his instructions the wife
must never disobey them (McClain, 2002, p. 94). In addition to abiding by the orders of her husband,
the new wife must honor her father in law and mother in law more than her own parents and perform
any task asked for them. Women were not only demanded who to obey, but they also had limits placed
on their feelings. Women were told to avoid extravagance and act in a proper demeanor, courteous,
humble and conciliatory; never peevish, intractable, rude and arrogant (McClain, 2002, p. 94). While
women were banned from divorcing their husbands, men could divorce their wives for reasons as
simple as disobedience, an inability to bear children, lewd acts, jealousy, leprosy, or disturb[ance to]
the harmony of the household (McClain, 2002, p. 94).

The Devil Finds Work for Idle Hands
What comes to mind when someone mentions video games? A lot of people will think of a waste of
time or a device for creating lazy children. That very well may be in a lot of cases, but from a different
point of view, video games have very important uses. Instead of creating lazy children, they eliminate
boredom for them. We all know what types of activities children find when they are bored. There is
also a huge job market in video games ranging from programming to sales. It seems they have
something for everyone, and in my presentation I try to convey how the video game industry became
the big dollar industry it is today. The history really begins in 1889 when the Marufuku Company was

because it took years to have the Atari 2600 adapter that Colecovision had all along. The very next

Because of its popularity, Sega releases the Sega Master System and Atari releases the 7800 game

Atari of course lose. The video game war rages on to this day with many companies joining wanting

If I asked you to conjure up an image of a modern American Jewish celebration, chances are you
would picture the stereotypical circle dance with the catchy, repetitive song chanting Hava Nagila .
But can this dance, the hora (h) 1, truly be classified as Jewish? In this paper, I will examine the
voyage the hora traveled during the 1880s from Romania to Israel, where newly settled Jewish
immigrants adopted it as their own ( Israel ). Roughly forty years later, Baruch Agadati, a Jewish
choreography, modified the Romania hora, allowing Eastern Europeans the opportunity to use the
dance as a vehicle to create their new identity within Israel. The performance of this new dance in the
first 1944 Dalia Festival was a catalyst for the Israeli folk ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The festival was located in the Kibbutz Dalia in the northern region of Israel and took place over the
span of two days, despite the hesitance of some (Friedhaber, 1985). With the news of the horrific
Holocaust and the reality of the European Jews, many people advised for the festival to come to a

alternative name of the Davka Festival. She decided to co name the festival that because davka means
in spite of or signifying resistance and an indomitable spirit (Friedhaber, 1985). The festival was the
critical public display that further kindled the spread of the Hora Agadati that eventually
revolutionized into the Israeli Horah. Alongside the Hora Agadati, Kadman recruited a mixture of a
few Israeli dances that were also newly constructed, in addition to copious foreign folk dances that she
saw around the country (Rosenblit; Roginsky). Approximately 3,500 visitors from all over Israel came
to watch the 200 dancers, as well as participate in classes where they could learn the dances (Kaschl;
Friedhaber, 1985). I declare that the production of the festival, resisting to be quieted by World War II
and the destruction of European Jewry, acknowledged the Israeli nationality while still representing
the European countries many of the dancers and audience

Fences In The Barrio Summary
1. The Barrio is where low income Mexican families live and develop social relations with others
around them. It is a safe haven for many Mexican families even though it is very run down and lacks
certain necessities. The streets of the barrio are poorly paved and it even has a makeshift barbershop in
someone s living room. This, however, does not deter families from becoming close with each other.
While in the barrio, families forget about their hardships and gather together to celebrate what they do
have. Their gatherings usually take place on their front porches or in their brightly colored gardens. 2.
The difference between the fences in the barrio and in the Anglo community are that in the Anglo
community, fences are designed to keep people out where as in the barrio, they are more or less there
for decoration. The Anglo community has thick, impenetrable walls, built to keep the neighbors at bay,
which gives off the impression that visitors are not welcome. On the other hand, fences in the barrio
are rusty, wire contraptions or thick green shrubs, which give off more of a welcoming feeling. In the
barrio, neighbors do not feel any sense of intrusion when you cross them. Anglo fences do not allow
for friendly encounters with neighbors. 3. In Ramirez s view, economic need creates interdependence
and closeness. In the barrio, when you are poor, which most of the residence are, you will do anything
to help your family out, even if you are a kid. Children in the

gave birth in 2013. Of these teenage pregnancies, 77% were accidental. Not being married was
popular among these teenagers, as 89% of them weren t (Teen Pregnancy Statistics, 2015). With
teenagers having babies, you have to wonder, who is going to have to pay for the kid if the teenager
isn t well off. It was estimated that about 9.4 billion tax dollars were spent on teenage pregnancy and
childbirth (Teen Pregnancy Statistics, 2015). That is a huge amount of money to be spending. More
interestingly, however, is how being a teenage parent effects the mother education wise. According to
teenhelp.com, 50% of teenage mothers ages 15 19 get a high school diploma, and only 38% of teenage
mothers ages 15 17 end up with a high school diploma. Then by age 30, only 1.5% of women who had
a pregnancy(s) as a teenager end up achieving a college degree (Teen Pregnancy Statistics, 2015).

I Love To Keep Mount Everest Research Paper
The rewards of keeping Mount Everest are risks and death. My decision is to keep Mount Everest
because it s a extreme sport you have to have faith, courage, and you have to be wise. The reason why
you have these characteristics is because so you could be safe. First you need to have faith and
courage because you can t go in nervous and scared because you can end up getting hurt. Lastly is
wise. You need to be wise because you need to plan your moves and you need to be smart about what
you do.
First reasons why I would love to keep Mount Everest is because it s part of our history everyone
knows what it is as a matter of fact Mount Everest is 29,029 feet tall one of the tallest and mountain in
the world. In paragraph four it says It s an quest that provides a sense of achievement (Source 1). That
s one reason why I would love to keep Mount Everest because people love that rush in their blood

Avoid Vs Incentive Pay
Year after year, as executive pay continues its inexorable climb, it s amusing to watch corporate
directors try to justify the piles of shareholder money they throw at the hired help (Morgenson 1) .
There are many employees that go the extra mile and produce more for their company, but they often
never receive anything extra in return. Due to this, they are less motivated to go the extra mile in the
future. In contrast, incentive pay is beneficial to an organization s overall production efficiency and
effectiveness.

First of all, a convenient starting point for an analysis of pay determination of team sports players is
the marginal productivity theory, which is the workhorse of modern labor economics (Bernd Simmons
1) .This connects with the claim because the marginal productivity theory includes that performance
ends up determining how much the athlete gets paid. This proves what I learned is true because the
theory shows how athletes relates to a worker on how if they work , then incentive compensation is
what is rewarded as a salary is for an athlete. Although salary is determined by hardwork, many fans
may believe player pay to be arbitrarily determined, statistical studies have shown that player salaries
in team sports on both sides of the Atlantic depend on age, experience, and ability (Bernd Simmons
23) . The author s ideas that fans believe that players pay is determined by age, experience, and ability
is a useful belief but sheds light on the difficult problem of realizing an athlete must be hardworking
to be most of the characteristics that fans believe provide the best compensation. By focusing on how
fans believes salaries depend on age, ability, and experience, the author overlooks the deeper problem
of players who are very talented and hardworking but old of age for an athlete which might affect their
salary; I believe this is unfair because age is just a number. In addition, North American players unions
in European soccer have been less effective in bargaining over salaries and employment terms (Bernd
Simmons 8) . This connects with the claim because many North American soccer players can t be
negotiated as much due to the extra work that was put in by them. This proves what I learned is true
because many athletes that put in the extra effort can t be bargained as much due to the reasoning of
their ability of playing their sport very well. To wrap thing up,

A Comparison Of Identity Theory And Social Identity
What is identity? A loose definition of identity is a sense of who we are. So how do we develop or
define our identity? Do we define it by the roles we play; mother, father, priest, teacher? Or do we
define it by what groups we associate ourselves with; republican, atheist, professional? This paper will
briefly discuss identity theory and social identity theory and then review the similarities and the
differences of the two. Identity theory examines how social conditions mold our identities and
subsequently direct our behaviors. In other words, society influences the roles we play and we behave
in ways that meet the expectations of that role. For example, a woman who has a child identifies as a
mother and then behaves in ways that are acceptable to being a mother in accordance with the social
standards she lives in. In addition to this, identity theory states that the self is based on multiple roles;
the mother can also be a daughter, an employee, a sister and a tennis player. In identity theory terms,
these are called role identities. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So, a woman, when caring for her child, will likely behave in ways that are nurturing but, that same
woman, when away from her child and in the presence of an employer, may behave in a more

more important to them. When two roles are in conflict a person will choose one over the other. The
mother mentioned above may abandon her work if her child is ill and her role as a mother is more

Misinformant And Misreading Ian Mcewan s Atonement
Misinformant and Wrongful conclusions In his essay Who Killed Robbie and Cecilia? Reading and
Misreading Ian McEwan s Atonement Martin Jacobi argues the role of misreading in Ian McEwan s
Atonement and the consequences of misreading and reading with preconception. Misreading is the
incorrect or misinterpretation of a reading. In McEwan s Atonement misreading is a key concept that
allows Ian McEwan to persuade readers into believing situations and conclusions that are not
confirmed. Jacobi s main argument examples focuses on the misreading and interpretation of two
main characters deaths, Robbie and Cecilia. The misreading in Atonement causes readers to believe
they are dead even though it is not confirmed. Jacobi further argues that along with misreading
reading with preconceptions also leads to misinterpretation, that when we read we have
preconceptions about the novel which leads to assumptions about what will occur. (Jacobi 71) While
Jacobi argues the negative of having preconceptions about a novel, having knowledge and information
about a novel and the author can be beneficial when trying to understand the novel and the why in the

Post War Revolts In Canada
The post war revolts were demonstrations by soldiers and labourers protesting the conditions which
resulted after the ending of the war. Individuals all over Canada and the world expressed their dismay
at the current situation. Soldiers in Victoria revolted, there was increased tensions from soldiers
stationed in England, and even general labour strikes. These events all culminated in a period of
hypertension among the state and its citizens. When exploring the related weeks and readings to the
subjects, it can be seen that these effects were caused by the ending of World War I, or at least
exacerbated by it. However, what made these situations worse was Canada s inexperience at dealing
with conflict, and its stature as a relatively new and untested nation. ... Show more content on

Morton addresses this in his piece from the week. Demobilization is bringing back and taking down
resources and bringing troops back to Canada. The government did not have a proper demobilization
strategy, this left millions of soldiers displaced and stuck in Europe. What was then seen is soldiers
whose romanticized view of post war life was being destroyed, furthering tensions. While stuck in
Europe the tensions between high ranking officials and their subordinates was increasing class and
rank conflict within the military. This resulted in disgruntled soldiers, and a fear that even when they
came back home no jobs or opportunities would be available. This created a hostile force of soldiers
who felt that a government they had fought for was abandoning them. This later led to the inclusion of
many veterans in the general strikes of the

Essay On God And Providence In The Canterbury Tales By...
According to Chaucer all literature must have sentence and solace , it must delight and instruct its
readers. Chaucer explores the roles of God and Providence in relation to Boethian consolation within
the Knight s tale. This essay will describe Chaucer s use of parallel structural elements, in relation to
human and celestial characters. The human characters at the center of the conflict are Palamon and
Arcite, and the object of their disagreement is the fair lady Emely. The final character, Thesus acts as
the moving character in the poem, driving the actions of the tale. This character structure is balanced
by four parallel celestial characters. Palamon balanced by Venus, Emely by Diana, Arcite by Mars,
and Thesus by Saturn.
As the opening tale of The Canterbury Tales, the Knight s tale lays the foundation of heroic love and
chivalry, themes that are later challenged by subsequent tales. The tale centers about two loyal
cousins, Palamon and Arcite. These two young men have been captured during battle and are being
held by Thesus in a tower. While noble Palamon was risen and romed in a chamber on heigh (Chaucer
207) he looks out and sees the mysterious Emely wonder around a garden. Immediately infatuated
with her beauty he cries aloud as though he strongen were unto the herte (221). This relates the

Climate Change Summit
The Unites States of America is currently working to combat climate change in order to protect people
from its effects. By combatting climate change, the USA hopes to prevent its effects from becoming
worse in the future because the USA cares for its citizens and doesn t want them to keep experiencing
the consequences of climate change. The USA is putting great effort into dealing with climate change
and also hopes that other businesses, organization, and individuals will join them in their effort
(Environmental News Service). One concern the USA has towards climate change is its cause of
natural disasters. Climate change is bringing more natural disasters by making weather patterns
stronger, and weather patterns are becoming stronger as climate change grows which is bringing more
natural disasters such as hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, and drought to the USA (Rice). One example of
a natural disaster that occurred in the USA as a result of climate change is the tornado in Moore,
Oklahoma. In this event, a tornado rated 5 on the Enhanced Fuijta scale hit Oklahoma and had a
negative impact on this city by destroying many of its houses and buildings also resulting in the
destruction of businesses such as schools (Cable News Network). Another major concern of the USA
towards climate change is that it will cause a rise in the global sea level which will result in many of
its coastal cities to be submerged underwater. There will be a permanent 4 feet rise in the global sea

Max Weber, one of the founding fathers of Sociology, is described as our greatest resource as a
sociologist (Collins, 1986: 5), and is considered by many contemporary sociologists the most
important contributor to the discipline. As Bendix notes, The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of

Persuasive Speech About Civil War
Conservatives, Feuillants, Jacobins and the People of France, the time for peace has come. Our once
great nation is now deeply wounded and divided. If we want to heal this nation, we must first heal
ourselves. We must be wounded healers, instead of the wounded warriors that we are. We must set
aside our differences and work together to make France into the great nation it once was.
The revolution is over! I urge you to put down your weapons and stop. Look around at all the great
work we have done. We the people, finally have a voice, we have the power. Civil war is harmful to
both parties; for both the conquerors and the conquered, the destruction is the same (BK 48). If we
continue to fight, more blood will cover the streets of France. Blood of our friends and family
member, and possibly even our own. We have accomplished what we set out to do already, anything
more at this point will only cause us to lose who we were and what we believe.
We need to start to reconcile with ourselves and start helping our neighbors. Once we rebuild and
focus on the right, we too can become healthy once again. More men become good through practice,
than by nature (Bk 48). If we continue to focus on the bad, we will only become worse. We the people,
the country, even the world deserve better than what we have become and what we have done. If we
start to heal ourselves, we then can begin to heal the nation. It is only then we can start to become who
we want to become.

What Color Attracts The Most
What Color Attracts the Human Eye the Most?
Introduction
The human eye can see 7,000,000 colors, but which color attracts it the most? Figuring out what color
attracts the most attention could be really beneficial in many ways. Research shows that when you are
buying something, the visual factor is almost 93%. That means that choosing a color that attracts a lot
of attention is crucial.
This experiment will show what color attracts the human eye the most. Before talking about what
color attracts a lot of attention, how do humans see color? To see color, first the light hits an object.
Then the object absorbs some of the light. Then, it reflects the rest of it. The wavelengths of the
reflected light determine what you see.
Warm colors attract the most attention. Some warm colors are red, yellow, and orange. Yellow is the
easiest color to see. Yellow is used for warning signs because it is easy to see. Yellow is more visible
because more light is reflected on bright colors. This causes excessive stimulation of the eye. ... Show

The purpose of doing this project is to help owners of companies to use the color that attracts the most
attention on their sign to help promote their store. If I figure out what color attracts the human eye it
could really benefit these companies. This could be a quick and easy way to attract customers. It could
interest people by making them look at the sign, which will make them curious and want to know
more about it. My hypothesis is that if I test what color attracts the human eye the most, then yellow
will be the color. I believe this because it is a very bright color and attracts more. The independent
variable of this experiment is the human participating. The dependent variable is what color is seen
first. The constant procedure in this experiment is how I ask the people what color they see first. I will

Essay On Japanese American Internment
Unjustified Internment Internment, putting a person in prison or other kind of detention, generally in
wartime. The Japanese American internment during World War II stemmed from the bombing of the
Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. After the bombing on the West Coast, America had lost their trust
of the Japanese and Japanese Americans. However, many Japanese lived on the West Coast because
they had primarily come for the Gold Rush. Thus, all Japanese Americans were sent to internment
camps out of fear of espionage and such. Was the internment of the Japanese Americans during World
War II reasonable? The Japanese American internment was unjustified because it was unnecessary,
unreasonable, and it was racist. The Japanese American internment did not have a logical reason for its
doing. There is no Japanese problem on the coast, (Munson, 3). Munson states there is no problem on
the West Coast with the Japanese. As a rebuttal , Lt. Gen. DeWitt states in a government report that it
is better to have had this protection and not to have needed it than to have needed it and not to have
had it, (DeWitt, 1). DeWitt proposes the argument that America did it out of fear of another attack by

Millennials In The Workplace By Simon Sineks
In the interview Millennials in the workplace, Simon Sineks (2016) shows his empathetic and
humorous side by describing Millennials in general. He then chooses to recognize the ones apart of the
workforce today and focus on that set of individuals. He does this by highlighting behind the scenes as
to why Millennials behave the way they do. He states his four main points of 1 Parenting, 2
Technology, 3 Impatience, and 4 Environment (2016, time). What Simon Sinek s states throughout the
interview is totally relatable to me as a millennial due to my behaviors and habits. So yes, I agree with
his main points as to why Millennials are the way they are. However, to add I believe that technology
and environment are the two main important factors in having children not fully develop their best
possible selves. To understand this better you have to consider the individuals who live in third world
countries compared to the United States. Sineks (2016) explains his main points using examples of
any person who uses their cell phones and social media. Many can accuse Millennials of this habit
because yes, we are always on our phones. However, this also affects children born during generation
X. The two key points that stand out the most are technology and environment. They both have a way
of intertwining problems which affect the way millennials maintain their lifestyle. My point of view of
technology is that it is very addicting. I wake up each and every morning and check my

Argumentative Essay On The Grapes Of Wrath
The States of Colorado, New Mexico, Nebraska, Texas, Arkansas, Kansas, and Oklahoma was hit by a
terrible drought that was known as Dust Bowl in 1930s to 1940s. The Dust Bowl made the farmer
families in this affected States not able to pay their debts and so the government and bank closed the
family farm. The movie The Grape of Wrath directed by John Ford depicts the life of a family from
Oklahoma that was affected by the Dust Bowl in 1930 1940. The family left Oklahoma and moved to
California which they call the promise land but when they got to California starvation, poverty, and
injustice welcomed them. The Dust Bowl in 1930s and 1940s made the people s lives miserable and
made the whole country suffer.
The movie started when Tom Joad returned to his home in Oklahoma after being in jail for homicide.
On his way to see his family, he saw a former preacher named Casey. The former preacher told and
warned Tom Joad that the Dust Bowl came year after year that blown the farmer s land, blown the
crops away, and even blown the farmers. When Tom got to his family s home, his family was not there
but there was a farmer who was staying and hiding at their old house. The farmer told Tom the story
on how the Dust Bowl destroyed every farmer s land, house, and life in Oklahoma. According to the
farmer, a man came one day and told the farmers to get off their house and land because a company
based in Tulsa already owns their lands. However, the farmers fought back and they stayed in their
home and land because it was hard for them to leave. Unfortunately, caterpillar tractors went to their
land that is now owned by a company to tore down the farmers houses. There were 10 to 15 families
who watched their houses being dismantled by a tractor. Every farmers family that had their home
demolished had no place to live so they were forced to stay on the road. The farmer who was staying
at Tom s old house informed him that his family was staying with Tom s Uncle John. After knowing
that, Tom went to his Uncle John s house right away to visit his family. The whole family was in
shocked but very happy to see Tom. While having a meal, Uncle John read the hand bill to the family

Comparing The Achaemenid Empire And The Imperial Stability...
Throughout human civilization, it has been invariably true that the ideas and innovations belonging to
particular societies have been adopted by both concurrent and later cultures. This has culminated in
remarkably advanced societies, whose success can be attributed to that of their ancient counterparts.
Much of the prosperity of modern civilization can certainly be accredited to the Achaemenid Empire,
a pluralistic empire founded in 550 BCE. At its peak, it stretched from the Indus River Valley to the
eastern Mediterranean coast. Despite its diversity, the empire remained politically and societally
united throughout its existence. The two major Achaemenid emperors responsible for the imperial
stability and prosperity were Cyrus and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To retain the power that emperors would have, Cyrus instituted checks and balances in this political
system; though satraps technically governed the provinces, the emperor had the power to institute
legislation that applied to the entire empire (Farazmand). Furthermore, the emperor would have the
ability to appoint, and if necessary, remove satraps from their positions. This ensured the loyalty of
satraps, as emperors could monitor them. This system of checks and balances resulted in a politically
efficient empire, in the context of both legislation and appointing government officials. This efficiency
encouraged Greeks and Romans to use similar techniques to manage their governmental systems,
contributing to the stability of their respective empires. Romans and Greeks were heavily influenced
by Persian administrative policies, establishing a satrapy system of local governorship (New World
Encyclopedia Contributors). With the existence of administrative divisions, Persians were given
province oriented legislation by their satraps. As a result, however, it became harder for the general
public to communicate directly with high ranking Persian officials, resulting in some bureaucratic
flaws.
The Achaemenid Empire s standardization of land and sea routes solidified their bureaucratic system,
inspiring Romans to do the same. The Persian Royal Road was constructed by Darius the Great in the
5th century BCE. It is considered to be the first

When the Civil War erupted at the attack on Fort Sumter in 1861, fighting was mainly driven by
political tensions, all of which ultimately spawned from the question of slavery. During the
Antebellum Period, the United States experienced a gradually intensifying sectional conflict that
threatened the unity of the nation. Compromises between the North and South had become futile.
Contrary to popular belief, the goals of Lincoln and the North did not involve the emancipation of
slaves and restoration of equality and the opportunity of prosperity for all Americans. Most

Religion And Its Role Of A Peace Keeper By French...
Religion, as described by French Sociologist Émile Durkheim, connotes a unified system of beliefs
and practices, relative to sacred things (Durkheim, 1965). The word unified suggests religion plays the
role of a peace keeper, presenting individuals with a shared sense of understanding through the rituals,
as well as the belief in a higher power or God. Within a contemporary society, religion is arguably
playing a different role to that which it played during the early 20th century, a time throughout which
Durkheim s sociological influence and research was prominent. Contemporary, postmodern societies
are far more likely to use and exploit religion in a varying way, for many reasons technological
advances and media takeovers, not to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Figures show that religious participation rates are indicative of a generational effect involving religion,
in which 48% of children tend to follow either their mother or (a little less often) their father into their
religion (Voas, 2005). In this case, the influence from parents is arguably the main factor leading them
into religion. Voas goes on to state that for children with no religious influence from parents, the
chance of the joining a religion is significantly lower. To me, this shows that the role of religion in
contemporary societies Is not necessarily about the individuals own needs, rather it stems from family
and continues across generations. However, as Voas (2005) then goes on to outline, with each
generation comes less religiosity. Certain factors overtake the importance of religion, and thus as a
new child is born, so is another consumer of capitalism. However, one downfall of Voas research is
that It is only based on contemporary society in Britain. This factor hinders otherwise strong stand
alone statistics, which would be far more comparable had other contemporary societies been
considered.
Postmodernism and interlinking theorists are important to bring into this discussion of religion. In

In How To Tell If Your Child Is Lying
Consider the times at some point of your life you have lied when you were a child and why. Some
children worry how their mom and dad would react, whether or not if they would get into trouble. Due
to the fact that covering up the truth seems easier than dealing with a lie, one of the unending
problems that many parents face is lying by their children. Most children tell lies at some point, but it
can a surprise the first time you hear your child lying. Learning how to lie is part of a child s

Discipline should not concentrate simply on punishment for lying, but rather on getting to the
foundation of the lying to keep it from happening again. In the article How to Discipline a Child for
Lying by Maria Magher gives five steps. To understand the reasons were the very first step. For
example, if your child is lying to get attention, focus on giving more praise for good behavior and
spend more one on one time together. The second step was to discuss the expectations for honesty. If
they are in a situation in which you suspect that may be lying, or in which they may be tempted to lie
remind them to encourage the truth. The third step was to make outcomes and be consistent in
implementing them. In the same article, Dr. Phil McGraw states When children know what
consequences they will faces as a result of lying, they make the choice each time to either lie or to
accept the punishment . However, consequences should be age appropriate and specific such as loss of
phone privileges, limited social time or removal of the television from the bedroom. The fourth step
was to set your child up for progress. Don t ask your child questions to which you know the answer
and might be tempted to lie. For example, instead of saying Did you clean your room? it is ideal to let
them know I notice you didn t clean your room. Let s work on a solution together . The last but not

Makeup has been around for at least 6000 years and some may even say 100000 years, but it all has

Makeup was first originated from Egypt. The ancient Egyptians used copper and lead ore to create the

of soot, metal, and fat. It was thought that kohl helped to prevent the eyes from blindness. Red or

also used scented oils and ointments to clean and soften their skin and mask body odor. And also oils
and creams were used for protection against the hot Egyptian sun and dry winds.

A fad or trend is a form of developing a popular subject in which we humans tend to follow and
throughout time it either develops/changes or dies down. Most often times trends and or fads are
associated with being gang related; for example, most people affiliate tattoos with criminals.
According to John Backderf, a famous comic strip writer, also referred to as derf believes that the
message behind a fad is misinterpreted which leads to peer pressure. To begin a trend derf believes
that it all begins with a small crowd, once it s been a style for a while it escalates to a bigger crowd
(the popular people), and finally it gets so big that its everywhere. In my opinion I revise derf s theory
because on his first two thoughts I agree with it, expect with his last idea. ... Show more content on

Derf begins with his comic saying that art students walk into a coffee shop all wearing a piercing on
their nose, but he refers to it as a nose booger (derf, box 1). This is how derf believes it starts with a
small group and in the next box he says that hipsters began to wear them along with Indie Rock
musician, but since the trend is getting bigger he has a visual that says, It s obviously GANG
RELATED!! I m banning boogers from school (derf, box 2). The picture is emphasized more because
it s a principal who believes that banning boogers will make the distraction go away, but the students
continue to wear them. So many people are wearing them, that it reaches an ultimate high power
which is known as celebrities including Madonna and Calvin Klein. Once it goes public the students
tend to lose interest and derf says the original art students lunging for the Kleenex (box 4). This relates
to peer pressure because once the student see that older people are wearing them they don t want them
to look unpopular so they find a new trend to

Baroque Research Paper
Baroque always thought to be an art period through 1600 to 1750 and the Baroque art was the
prevalent artistic style in that period. The art style was originated from Italy and related to counter
reformation. In Baroque period, artists were embraced elaborate ornamentation, dynamic, spectacular
effect, which broke through the calm, static feeling of classical art since Renaissance art period. Also,
it is an art style that absorbed lots of elements from theater, literature, and music and has a strong
relationship to the religious, which held the dominant position through the whole period. For the
Baroque paintings, instead of depicting people s lifestyle, most of them were depicting the Counter
Reformation. Figures poses in the paintings are more precise and more like opera stage poses.
Moreover, Baroque paintings always exaggerated lighting and had intense emotions. During Baroque
period, group figures are one of the most importances for the sculptures and those sculptures focused
on the dynamic movement to convey human s energy. Another important thing is that the sculptures in
this period have multiple ideal viewing angles. Besides the paintings and sculptures, Baroque style
profoundly influenced the architecture at that time. The architectures mainly focused on the bold of ...

The strong relationship between the religious and the artworks is a non negligible part. They are just
like the soul of an artwork in that period. All in all, Baroque is a word that not only limited to a
specific era, but also a style of art, which pushed forward the art history. Painting, sculptures,
architects are just small part of the Baroque art. The soul of it had spread all over the world and
permeated to every aspect of people s daily life at that time era. Even though the upsurge of Baroque
art had already faded, it is still one of the most glorious pages during through the whole

The History Of Drinking Water
In an age when man has forgotten his origins and is blind even to his most essential needs for survival,
water along with other resources has become the victim of his indifference.
Rachel Carson
The water you see around you, flowing freely, sparkling in the noonday sun, quenching your thirst,
bathing you, providing you with life is all limited there is no place on this planet where new water
springs up from a source. Water has been recycled by nature over and over again since time began.
Our drinking water at one time or another was way up high in the clouds, or streaming down a
mountainside, or gushing out of Old Faithful. It cannot be created; it cannot be renewed by planting a
water tree; no such tree ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now, much of it is from such sources as fertilizer running off farm fields and motor oil washing off
highways. He concludes, It s not a matter of getting the attention of a few corporations and cities. Now
we re trying to engage a lot more people.
How Mr. Evans is going to engage a lot more people is never mentioned. Perhaps when we reach
critical levels of toxic elements in our water table than the people will become more involved.
Drinking water is different in that we take it into our bodies. We need this water to live. If the water is
undrinkable due to heavy metals, such as nitrates from farmers, or mercury from power plants, or by
pollution from some other source of industry than the available drinking water becomes scarce.
Informing the public is not enough to engage the people. Battles have been fought over water rights
for many years from the Plaines Indians, cattlemen and ranchers all the way up to Mulholland stealing
water from Owens Valley. Now the fight is between Environmentalist, Industries and the Government.
While they discuss whether EPA reports tell the whole story, there exist an ever increasing demand for
water from an ever increasing population. If the people are not engaged in the process of conservation
and prevention the water problem will only get worse.
California has seen its share of droughts. Droughts have a way of making things

Television Commercials Designed for the Female Audience
The television commercial is perhaps the most effective means of product marketing and
advertisement. Television is present in 99% of American households, and it stays turned on an average
of seven hours per day. (http://www.envirolink.com/) The television audience is a varied, widespread
audience, ensuring manufacturers that their products advertisements are reaching all possible
customers. Obviously, not all products are produced for all consumers. Market analysts and
advertisers must find advertising techniques that can be used in commercials for certain target
customers and use those commercials to directly affect the ideal customer for the product. Gender,

As professional research journals and articles were not found, my research is based on television facts
from the Internet and pure analytical observation and comparison of present day television
commercials. The age group considered child was five to twelve years. Commercials in this group
advertised products aimed at children to include cereals, dolls, and toys, as well as products aimed at
women, such as laundry detergent, using girls for advertisers. I did find a basic format of the child s
commercial, even though the actors and products varied greatly. I found camera action to be slow and
fluent. Very few jump cuts and quick zooms were used; instead, individual shots slid from scene to
scene very fluidly. The camera would focus on the children, giving equal coverage to each child and
each product. This type of action gave the viewer time to clearly see the product, as well as the actress
using it.
The child actresses had similarities in almost every commercial. Most notably, they were all female,
appearing to be between the ages of six and eight, no matter what toy was being advertised. The girls
were outfitted in pinks, blues, yellows, and greens of all shades, but mostly light pastels. Dresses and
overalls were prominent as were bows, ponytails, curly blonde hair, petite bodies, and smiles. Many
toothy smiles crossed

Collegiate Athletics Vs. Indiana State University Board Of...
Collegiate athletics is growing each day and the athletes are becoming faster, stronger, and quicker
each day. As the competition on the field improves, the risk of injury also becomes more of a
possibility. While strength and conditioning coaches have created athletes who are able to withstand
more physical play and can rehab quicker from injury, they have also created monsters on the playing
field and court. As collegiate athletics grows into a multibillion dollar industry, the players expect to
have more benefits available to them, including workers compensation. We have seen a variety of
situations arise recently were players are looking to secure their own safety when playing such
physical games.
In 1976, a football student athlete at Indiana State University suffered an injury that left him as a
quadriplegic. In 1983, the case Rensing v. Indiana State University Board of Trustees was heard by the
Indiana State Supreme Court. The court decided that the Indiana court of appeals incorrectly
concluded that Rensing was an employee under the Workmen s Compensation Act and therefore
Indiana State University was not responsible to provide Rensing with any medical or disability
expenses. It is a requirement of the NCAA for every athlete to carry health insurance and to provide
health insurance to those athletes who are not able to provide their own health insurance. It is also
highly recommended that NCAA institutions carry additional health care insurance for their

Animal cruelty is a huge problem in this Country, to bring awareness I am going to start the Tan Paws
Ribbon Campaign. To bring awareness I am going to point out how important an animal s life is just
as important, they have feelings. They feel pain, fear, as well as abandonment. People think that
because they have fur that they should be treated differently.Their lives are just as important as ours.
Cruelty and neglect cross socio economic boundaries, and media reports suggest that animal abuse is
common in both rural and urban areas. (Humane society of the United States, 2016) The problem, is
that these abusive people believe that its ok .The abuser should feel the same abuse these poor abused

Crime Scene 2
Analysis of crime scene. A deceased female was found in her home on Monday, June 2nd. The victim
was found bound to the bed and stabbed 13 times and semen was found. I will provide theories and
explanations of each to help suggest why the perpetrator committed this crime.
The Offender
The husband is the potential suspect. He had the perfect alibi, he was out of town and no one would
suspect him of committing the crime. He knew his wife would be home from work that day. He knew
her routine and carefully planned when he would commit the murder. Nothing was stolen from the
home, as it contained a wealth of expensive items. The fact that nothing was disturbed, points to the
husband. He knew the layout of the home, because he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A person s criminal activity can begin later in life and driving forces are swayed by various life
circumstances.
This theory includes different classes and types of criminals. It is a combination of latent trait theory
and life course theory which helps explain that there are different paths and classes of offenders. The
external force, in this case, a mistress, would be the trajectory. Working in combination with his bad
temper, arousal theory influenced the criminal behavior. This theory might not fully support his
motives if he didn t have a mistress or seeking financial gain. If no outside forces compelled him to
murder his wife then this theory won t apply.
Arousal Theory
This theory combines genetic and environmental reasons as to the reasons how a brain processes
environmental stimulation differently, the response varies for each person. His inability to control
anger combined with his desire to be with another woman, and a possible sizeable financial gain,
influenced intentions. He had deep seated resentment towards his wife and the tension was building
over a period of time. He was obviously unhappy yet kept it hidden. He possibly had frequent anger
episodes. I believe that when he initially tried to stab her and failed to kill her, he exploded and
reacted in a very violent way. There is the possibility that he remained calm throughout the

Should Legal System Be Used To Resolve Purposeful Misconduct
The legal system should be used to resolve purposeful misconduct; instead frivolous lawsuits have
affected every aspect of our society because individuals with legitimate grievances have been
trivialized to a get rich quick mentality that is permeating American society. There was a time if
someone spilled coffee on their lap or tripped on a raised sidewalk, they called themselves clumsy, but
today they call an attorney. Attorneys have created the mindset that anyone can win the legal lottery
by suing over situations that could have been resolved by simply turning the other cheek. To turn the
other cheek, is a biblical instruction to urge people to be motivated by love and to have a desire for the
redemption and forgiveness of offenders in lieu of personal revenge and/or vengeance. It was also not
intended for people to be passive victims nor suffer in silence and refuse to seek legal protection if a
person provoked another into a confrontation with a literal slap or with stinging sarcasm the person
slapped should avoid retaliating by simply turning the other cheek. Legal historian William Nelson
argues that no topic has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
English law in its earliest stages did not differentiate between tort and crime; when one person harmed
another, the remedy was known as a feud and the object was to cause an equivalent harm to the
wrongdoer. In the earliest form, English courts were local and applied local laws. After the Norman
conquest of England in 1066, William the Conqueror brought Norman law that was heavily influenced
by Roman law, to intermingle with Anglo Saxon and Celtic legal traditions. Royal courts were created
and gradually took limited jurisdiction over a specified list of wrongs primarily felonies where there
was a breach of the king s peace, and disputes involving

Statistical Software Based Statistical Package For The...
To analyze the collected data, the researchers used the statistical software Statistical Package for the
Social Services (SPSS). The collected data was analyzed using the descriptive and inferential
statistics. Performed tests included the t test, the chi square (2), and the logistic regression (David,
Britting, Dalton, 2015, p. 250). The general research question was: if the addition of a cardiac acute
care NP to care teams would improve utilization outcomes. To answer this question, the researchers
examined and compared data collected from 2 groups; one with an NP and a second without an NP. In
order to find the difference between the two groups, the t test (for interval and ratio data) and 2 (for
nominal data) was calculated. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Length of stay Ratio The ratio measurement has a ranking order, the distances between the numbers
are equal, and it has an absolute zero. The length of stay was measured in minutes from the time of
admission (absolute zero) to the time of discharge; like a timer.

The descriptive statistics were used to evaluate the occurrence of rehospitalization within 30 days
(readmission return to emergency department) and discharge outcomes (length of the stay and
discharge time). Table 2 on page 252 presents the number and percentage of patients readmitted within
30 days from both groups; this descriptive statistic is also presented in the Figure on page 252. The
mean length of stay and standard deviation are included in the same table. In addition, the inferential
statistics, such as the t test, the Chi square (2), and logistic regression (odds ratio) were used. The t
test was used to analyze interval or ratio data, for example: the length of stay or time of discharge. The
Chi square (2) test was used to analyze nominal/categorical data, for example: to assess the
relationship between the readmission to the hospital (or ER) and the type of medical team the patient
had (with or without the NP). The authors considered a p value below 0.05 as a significant. In
addition, the odds ratio was calculated using the logistic regression to

Judicial Reform Act 2005 Essay
Judicial independence is the concept that the judiciary should be separate of the legislative and
executive branches of government. It can be argued that to a moderate extent the Constitutional
Reform Act 2005 and Courts and Crime Act 2013 do enforce and protect judicial independence.
Evidence is provided within sections s.3 and s.7 of CRA 2005 along with the reforms introduced by
the Act. Other acts such as the Act of Settlement 1701 also safeguards independence.
Dame Mary Arden argued that judicial independence involved at least two things being the judge in
any individual case being free to reach the decision which he or she considers to be in accordance with
the law, free from any influence, and it means institutional independence meaning ... Show more

This enforces independence because it allows the Lord Chancellor and Lord Chief Justice to handle
complaints about discipline and conduct with the help of solely the Ombudsman meaning they are not
being assisted by anyone else. The JACO also protects independence for this exact reason.
One important amendment made by the Crime and Courts Act 2013 is that the Lord Chancellor s
powers to accept, reject or ask for reconsideration of recommendations for judicial appointments
below the High Court have been transferred to the Lord Chief Justice . This means the LC would then
focus on the more senior judicial positions. As the LCJ is not a political executive this would enforce
independence as the branches of government would continue to stay separate and allow judicial
diversity, which was a goal of the JAC s .
However, the Act of Settlement 1701 guarantees independence as it gives senior judges security of
tenure, which means that their continued office is not dependent of the favour of the executive

  • 2. The Olympics s Impact On The Olympic Arena Ever since its inception in 1896, the Modern Olympics has hosted an invisible sport: politics. The Olympics calls for a halt to all conflicts ... [and to] strive towards a more peaceful world, but politics soon spoiled its biennial message. As the Olympics continue to dissolve into ... a political competition ... they no longer ... justify the time and trouble, Dave Anderson, Pulitzer Prize winner for his sports column, wrote in the New York Times in 1984. The Olympic spirit has routinely been used as an outlet for political agendas. With political and Olympic ambitions intersected, the great international sports festivity negatively affects all nations involved. World leaders frequently use the Olympic arena as a stage for international ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Boycotting has been used throughout history as an instrument for foreign policy. For any Olympics to be a true Olympics, all the world s nations should be represented, said Anderson. Not ... those ... on one side or the other of political barbed wire. As a result of boycott, the essence of the games competition diminished. At the 1980 Olympics where the United States decided to stay home, the Soviet Union swept 195 medals the largest won in history followed by the United States in 1984 with 174 medals, when, by no surprise, the Soviets decided to miss. Ironically, the spirit of the Olympics turned cold alongside the Cold War. [The domination as a result of boycott] diminished any accomplishments in working hard, said Al Oerter, a four time Olympic gold medal winner. The Olympic Games quickly turned into a game for politicians, not the athletes. James Montague, the 2009 Best New Writer, wrote in CNN that Carter s idea of a good, non military way of protesting the invasion was not effective, with the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan lasting another eight years. The 1976 boycott was not effective either; the South African apartheid regime survived another eighteen years. Boycotting did more damage at home than it did away: it proved horrible for the Olympic movement and for athletes like Don Paige, a renowned track runner, who was left to watch the race he knew he could win. The Olympics also experiences political terrorism, which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Lord Byron Manfred Quotes Whether Manfred stands atop a mountain to contemplate suicide, or he speaks about his misery slowing his perception of time into an eternity, the play Manfred seemingly contains examples of hyper dramatic emotions. But why did Byron place such hyperbolic emotion in Manfred? What is the point of these hyperbolic emotions? After a close analysis, they seem to exist for the accentuation of Manfred s last line/the moral of the play: ... tis not so difficult to die (Byron 672). This line, in the context of Manfred s vast misery and incredible tribulations, seems to mean that: death is easily achieved; anyone can die. But living, through life s innate suffering, life s innate obstacles, is difficult. However, with this interpreted moral stated, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This, in turn, accentuates Manfred s moral because, in life, Manfred must live with the guilt of killing Astarte with perfect agency. Yet, in his death, there exists no agency to possess; Manfred, as an autonomous person, no longer exists. He, therefore, no longer must deal with his burden of complete autonomy. This contrast, it seems, supports and highlights the moral of the play: death is easily achieved; anyone can die. But living, through life s innate suffering, life s innate obstacles, is difficult. In sum, it seems clear that Lord Byron uses hyperbolic emotion as an implement to contrast Manfred s life from his death. This, in turn, accentuates the moral of the play. But why are these accents important to the moral? Could not the moral exist without these accents? Yes, but when one pronounces something, that thing becomes more focused. It seems, then, that the important of these hyperbolic emotions is their ability to make the moral more attainable. That, in the end, and in a strategic sense, is the main purpose for these hyper dramatic emotions: they are tools to make a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Legacy Of The Vietnam War The Vietnam War is widely regarded as the lowest point in the history of U.S. foreign affairs. It mercilessly dragged an unwilling country on a fatal ride for twenty years, all while receiving low approval ratings and high funding. The Vietnam conflict served as an optimum environment for the virus of controversy. No one has more experience with controversy than Heinz Alfred Kissinger. He is the ultimate pragmatist, as embodying his philosophy of realpolitik, a diplomatic ideology based on utilitarianism rather than international ethical standards. When one s political calling card downplays the role of ethics in diplomacy, that individual is bound to garner a high profile reputation. Kissinger himself has lamented the national predicament during this conflict squeezed between the ultimate rock, his duty to keep peace, and hard place, his duty to act with the approval of the American people. This predicament was rooted in an omnipresent opposition to Communism, as was America s role in the entire Cold War. Cold War politics were politics of fear. That fear drove competition, which bred a certain variety of leader a logical, calculating politician with regard for nothing but his country s success. To avoid an uncontrollable spread of Communism through the westernized world, some moral casualties were strewn about the wayside. However, the American public had no trouble rolling up their collective sleeves to back this forward thinking activist. In more recent years, some ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Monteverdi As An Epic Poem Analysis Composing an opera seems like a daunting task, now imagine trying to take an Epic Poem and make it into an opera, it seems almost like an ultimate challenge; a challenge only few would take on. One of the most famous composers who took on this challenge was Claudio Giovanni Antonio Monteverdi famously known only as Monteverdi, was one of the greatest composers of his time and he was able to bring classical Greek Epic Poems to life. Even though Monteverdi was one of the greatest composers of his times it must have been very daunting challenge to take a story that had been only really heard and written down almost from interpretation from the Greeks and turn it into an Italian Opera. Another challenge he may have faced was condensing the long Epic Poem so that the audience could sit through the opera and still get the most important points of the Epic Poem. One of biggest problems Monteverdi must have encountered was when he first began to compose the story of Ulysses there was the challenge that it was in a completely different language. Homer wrote the Odyssey in Greek and Monteverdi was Italian, to add to this the Greek Homer wrote the story in was completely different from the Greek that the native people spoke. Even though the Odyssey was already being translated, no one really knew how to translate Greek; it had been a langue that basically disappeared for some time. This could have mean that some of the story could have literally been lost in translation, or the Italian scholars could have added even some parts of the story accidently due to misinterpretation. Monteverdi being one the greatest composers would have had to study the story of Ulysses and known the story thoroughly no matter what translation he may have read or heard. Knowing the plot of the story he would then have to match musical pieces to each of the characters, and there were many characters in this Epic Poem, who were fundamental to this opera even more difficult to compose. Not only did Monteverdi have to face a language barrier but also, he then had to keep in mind each character Homer wrote about. Homer incorporated many people into the Odyssey, including characters from his past works as well as the gods as they played a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Dionysian And Balance Essay Apollonian Vs. Dionysian and balance In Thomas Mann s book, Death in Venice , he uses symbolism throughout his book in order to display many different complex ideas in simpler forms. This symbolism is often not immediately apparent, and requires the reader to ruminate about the text. One of the key concepts repeatedly mentioned throughout the book symbolically was Gustave Achenbach s fear of growing old, and his longing for a youth he never got to have. We first saw this represented when he initially saw the old man on the boat. Achenbach was at first completely disgusted with the man s appearance a reflection of what he feared he might come to look like being described with the words repulsive, dull, shaky, and what horrified him the most, old. However once he studied the man even closer, he saw reflected the youthfulness he never had. Although he was thoroughly repulsed by the young old man, he was also envious of the man; the man who was able to relive his youth long after it had left him. To Achenbach this man was symbolic to what he desired to have, a youth, and as well to one of his greatest fears, growing old. This desire for youthfulness and a childhood was also reflected in his early exposures with Tadzio. Tadzio was a representation of everything Achenbach wished he had the opportunity to live a blissful childhood, and most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 7. Gender Socialization and Gender Roles Essay Gender socialization and gender roles have always existed in society. When analyzing gender roles, they are not always equal or consistent when comparing cultures, however, the expectations of females and males are often times clearly defined with a little to no common area. The Japanese culture is an example of the defined gender roles that change over time. According to Schafer (2010), because gender roles are society s expectations of the proper behavior, attitudes, and activities of males and females , they must be taught (p.357). These roles define how females and males are viewed in society, their household, and workplace. When examining gender socialization in the Japanese culture, it is important to analyze how gender roles are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Handbooks were written for either men or women that shared gender codes that were not legal laws, but established gender socializations that were taught at young ages. One handbook stated when a girl is young, the chief duty of a girl living in the parental house is to practice filial piety toward her mother and father (McClain, 2002, p. 94). Then once a woman is married, the new wife must look to her husband as a lord and must serve him..... [and] when the husband issues his instructions the wife must never disobey them (McClain, 2002, p. 94). In addition to abiding by the orders of her husband, the new wife must honor her father in law and mother in law more than her own parents and perform any task asked for them. Women were not only demanded who to obey, but they also had limits placed on their feelings. Women were told to avoid extravagance and act in a proper demeanor, courteous, humble and conciliatory; never peevish, intractable, rude and arrogant (McClain, 2002, p. 94). While women were banned from divorcing their husbands, men could divorce their wives for reasons as simple as disobedience, an inability to bear children, lewd acts, jealousy, leprosy, or disturb[ance to] the harmony of the household (McClain, 2002, p. 94). • 8. History of the Video Game Industry Essay examples The Devil Finds Work for Idle Hands What comes to mind when someone mentions video games? A lot of people will think of a waste of time or a device for creating lazy children. That very well may be in a lot of cases, but from a different point of view, video games have very important uses. Instead of creating lazy children, they eliminate boredom for them. We all know what types of activities children find when they are bored. There is also a huge job market in video games ranging from programming to sales. It seems they have something for everyone, and in my presentation I try to convey how the video game industry became the big dollar industry it is today. Nintendo, not doing well in the arcade market, licenses Donkey Kong among other games to Coleco. Colecovision s main appeal was an adapter to play Atari 2600 games. To compete with Colecovision, Atari releases its Atari 5200. It does poorly mainly because it took years to have the Atari 2600 adapter that Colecovision had all along. The very next year the Commodore 64 comes out. It is the best video game system yet and acted more like a computer. Because of this sudden flood of game consoles and software, 3rd party companies couldn t compete and went out of business. Their games became dirt cheap and soon people preferred to buy them than the expensive company s games. This all lead to a rough market. In 1985, Nintendo test markets it s Nintendo Entertainment System. It s a huge hit and goes nationwide the very next year. Because of its popularity, Sega releases the Sega Master System and Atari releases the 7800 game console. No one is as popular as Nintendo and in 1988; Atari sues Nintendo for having a monopoly. Atari of course lose. The video game war rages on to this day with many companies joining wanting their piece of the market. • 9. Hoa If I asked you to conjure up an image of a modern American Jewish celebration, chances are you would picture the stereotypical circle dance with the catchy, repetitive song chanting Hava Nagila . But can this dance, the hora (h) 1, truly be classified as Jewish? In this paper, I will examine the voyage the hora traveled during the 1880s from Romania to Israel, where newly settled Jewish immigrants adopted it as their own ( Israel ). Roughly forty years later, Baruch Agadati, a Jewish choreography, modified the Romania hora, allowing Eastern Europeans the opportunity to use the dance as a vehicle to create their new identity within Israel. The performance of this new dance in the first 1944 Dalia Festival was a catalyst for the Israeli folk ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The festival was located in the Kibbutz Dalia in the northern region of Israel and took place over the span of two days, despite the hesitance of some (Friedhaber, 1985). With the news of the horrific Holocaust and the reality of the European Jews, many people advised for the festival to come to a standstill (Friedhaber, 1985; Ingber). Nevertheless, Kadman continued on with her plan, providing the alternative name of the Davka Festival. She decided to co name the festival that because davka means in spite of or signifying resistance and an indomitable spirit (Friedhaber, 1985). The festival was the critical public display that further kindled the spread of the Hora Agadati that eventually revolutionized into the Israeli Horah. Alongside the Hora Agadati, Kadman recruited a mixture of a few Israeli dances that were also newly constructed, in addition to copious foreign folk dances that she saw around the country (Rosenblit; Roginsky). Approximately 3,500 visitors from all over Israel came to watch the 200 dancers, as well as participate in classes where they could learn the dances (Kaschl; Friedhaber, 1985). • 11. Fences In The Barrio Summary 1. The Barrio is where low income Mexican families live and develop social relations with others around them. It is a safe haven for many Mexican families even though it is very run down and lacks certain necessities. The streets of the barrio are poorly paved and it even has a makeshift barbershop in someone s living room. This, however, does not deter families from becoming close with each other. While in the barrio, families forget about their hardships and gather together to celebrate what they do have. Their gatherings usually take place on their front porches or in their brightly colored gardens. 2. The difference between the fences in the barrio and in the Anglo community are that in the Anglo community, fences are designed to keep people out where as in the barrio, they are more or less there for decoration. The Anglo community has thick, impenetrable walls, built to keep the neighbors at bay, which gives off the impression that visitors are not welcome. On the other hand, fences in the barrio are rusty, wire contraptions or thick green shrubs, which give off more of a welcoming feeling. In the barrio, neighbors do not feel any sense of intrusion when you cross them. Anglo fences do not allow for friendly encounters with neighbors. 3. Avoid Vs Incentive Pay Year after year, as executive pay continues its inexorable climb, it s amusing to watch corporate directors try to justify the piles of shareholder money they throw at the hired help (Morgenson 1) . There are many employees that go the extra mile and produce more for their company, but they often never receive anything extra in return. Due to this, they are less motivated to go the extra mile in the future. In contrast, incentive pay is beneficial to an organization s overall production efficiency and effectiveness. First of all, a convenient starting point for an analysis of pay determination of team sports players is the marginal productivity theory, which is the workhorse of modern labor economics (Bernd Simmons 1) .This connects with the claim because the marginal productivity theory includes that performance ends up determining how much the athlete gets paid. This proves what I learned is true because the theory shows how athletes relates to a worker on how if they work , then incentive compensation is what is rewarded as a salary is for an athlete. Although salary is determined by hardwork, many fans may believe player pay to be arbitrarily determined, statistical studies have shown that player salaries in team sports on both sides of the Atlantic depend on age, experience, and ability (Bernd Simmons 23) . The author s ideas that fans believe that players pay is determined by age, experience, and ability is a useful belief but sheds light on the difficult problem of realizing an athlete must be hardworking to be most of the characteristics that fans believe provide the best compensation. By focusing on how fans believes salaries depend on age, ability, and experience, the author overlooks the deeper problem of players who are very talented and hardworking but old of age for an athlete which might affect their salary; I believe this is unfair because age is just a number. In addition, North American players unions in European soccer have been less effective in bargaining over salaries and employment terms (Bernd Simmons 8) . This connects with the claim because many North American soccer players can t be negotiated as much due to the extra work that was put in by them. This proves what I learned is true because many athletes that put in the extra effort can t be bargained as much due to the reasoning of their ability of playing their sport very well. • 18. A Comparison Of Identity Theory And Social Identity What is identity? A loose definition of identity is a sense of who we are. So how do we develop or define our identity? Do we define it by the roles we play; mother, father, priest, teacher? Or do we define it by what groups we associate ourselves with; republican, atheist, professional? This paper will briefly discuss identity theory and social identity theory and then review the similarities and the differences of the two. Identity theory examines how social conditions mold our identities and subsequently direct our behaviors. In other words, society influences the roles we play and we behave in ways that meet the expectations of that role. For example, a woman who has a child identifies as a mother and then behaves in ways that are acceptable to being a mother in accordance with the social standards she lives in. In addition to this, identity theory states that the self is based on multiple roles; the mother can also be a daughter, an employee, a sister and a tennis player. Reading and Misreading Ian McEwan s Atonement Martin Jacobi argues the role of misreading in Ian McEwan s Atonement and the consequences of misreading and reading with preconception. Misreading is the incorrect or misinterpretation of a reading. In McEwan s Atonement misreading is a key concept that allows Ian McEwan to persuade readers into believing situations and conclusions that are not confirmed. Jacobi s main argument examples focuses on the misreading and interpretation of two main characters deaths, Robbie and Cecilia. The misreading in Atonement causes readers to believe they are dead even though it is not confirmed. Jacobi further argues that along with misreading reading with preconceptions also leads to misinterpretation, that when we read we have preconceptions about the novel which leads to assumptions about what will occur. (Jacobi 71) While Jacobi argues the negative of having preconceptions about a novel, having knowledge and information about a novel and the author can be beneficial when trying to understand the novel and the why in the novel. Knowing information about when the novel is set, what was happening during this time can be useful for understanding as well as useful for avoiding misreadings. Chaucer explores the roles of God and Providence in relation to Boethian consolation within the Knight s tale. This essay will describe Chaucer s use of parallel structural elements, in relation to human and celestial characters. The human characters at the center of the conflict are Palamon and Arcite, and the object of their disagreement is the fair lady Emely. The final character, Thesus acts as the moving character in the poem, driving the actions of the tale. This character structure is balanced by four parallel celestial characters. Palamon balanced by Venus, Emely by Diana, Arcite by Mars, and Thesus by Saturn. As the opening tale of The Canterbury Tales, the Knight s tale lays the foundation of heroic love and chivalry, themes that are later challenged by subsequent tales. The tale centers about two loyal cousins, Palamon and Arcite. These two young men have been captured during battle and are being held by Thesus in a tower. While noble Palamon was risen and romed in a chamber on heigh (Chaucer 207) he looks out and sees the mysterious Emely wonder around a garden. The Japanese American internment during World War II stemmed from the bombing of the Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. After the bombing on the West Coast, America had lost their trust of the Japanese and Japanese Americans. However, many Japanese lived on the West Coast because they had primarily come for the Gold Rush. Thus, all Japanese Americans were sent to internment camps out of fear of espionage and such. The Japanese American internment did not have a logical reason for its doing. There is no Japanese problem on the coast, (Munson, 3). However, the farmers fought back and they stayed in their home and land because it was hard for them to leave. Unfortunately, caterpillar tractors went to their land that is now owned by a company to tore down the farmers houses. There were 10 to 15 families who watched their houses being dismantled by a tractor. Every farmers family that had their home demolished had no place to live so they were forced to stay on the road. The farmer who was staying at Tom s old house informed him that his family was staying with Tom s Uncle John. After knowing that, Tom went to his Uncle John s house right away to visit his family. • 32. Comparing The Achaemenid Empire And The Imperial Stability... Throughout human civilization, it has been invariably true that the ideas and innovations belonging to particular societies have been adopted by both concurrent and later cultures. This has culminated in remarkably advanced societies, whose success can be attributed to that of their ancient counterparts. Much of the prosperity of modern civilization can certainly be accredited to the Achaemenid Empire, a pluralistic empire founded in 550 BCE. At its peak, it stretched from the Indus River Valley to the eastern Mediterranean coast. Despite its diversity, the empire remained politically and societally united throughout its existence. The two major Achaemenid emperors responsible for the imperial stability and prosperity were Cyrus and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To retain the power that emperors would have, Cyrus instituted checks and balances in this political system; though satraps technically governed the provinces, the emperor had the power to institute legislation that applied to the entire empire (Farazmand). Furthermore, the emperor would have the ability to appoint, and if necessary, remove satraps from their positions. This ensured the loyalty of satraps, as emperors could monitor them. This system of checks and balances resulted in a politically efficient empire, in the context of both legislation and appointing government officials. This efficiency encouraged Greeks and Romans to use similar techniques to manage their governmental systems, contributing to the stability of their respective empires. Romans and Greeks were heavily influenced by Persian administrative policies, establishing a satrapy system of local governorship (New World Encyclopedia Contributors). With the existence of administrative divisions, Persians were given province oriented legislation by their satraps. As a result, however, it became harder for the general public to communicate directly with high ranking Persian officials, resulting in some bureaucratic flaws. The Achaemenid Empire s standardization of land and sea routes solidified their bureaucratic system, inspiring Romans to do the same. • 33. Statement of Purpose to Become a Nursing Student at... Since my first day in nursing school, I have always looked forward to the day I become a family nurse practitioner (FNP). Among the driving forces and strengths being that apart from being the first nurse in the family, I graduated with a degree in nursing making me a source of inspiration within the family. Additionally, I will be the first to graduate with a master s degree in the family given this opportunity. Besides, I wish to be a source of motivation and inspiration to many nurses who wish to advance their nursing careers. It is through a demonstration of what is possible and mentoring them through that I can make a positive change among fellow nurses. Since I graduated about three years ago, I have worked with many patients and clients that require much of the required advanced nursing skills that I seek. Equipped with such skills, I will be at a better position to adequately, competently and confidently assist the adult patients and clients. In fact, nursing is a passion allowing me to serve the community and at the same time be a light in someone s disease process darkness. I wish to live to learn broadly, to serve others generously and courageously lead other fellow nurses. Since I graduated three years ago, I have had two certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), which have enabled to work effectively at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA as a RN, in GI and Pulmonologist labs. Civil War Dbq Essay When the Civil War erupted at the attack on Fort Sumter in 1861, fighting was mainly driven by political tensions, all of which ultimately spawned from the question of slavery. During the Antebellum Period, the United States experienced a gradually intensifying sectional conflict that threatened the unity of the nation. Compromises between the North and South had become futile. Contrary to popular belief, the goals of Lincoln and the North did not involve the emancipation of slaves and restoration of equality and the opportunity of prosperity for all Americans. Most Northerners fought to preserve the newly split Union, while Southerners fought to protect what they believed to be inalienable states rights. Ultimately, precarious African American ... Lincoln, who initially remained neutral on the topic of slavery, became inspired by the willingness with which African Americans stake their lives for us, they must be prompted by the strongest motive even the promise of freedom. • 35. Religion And Its Role Of A Peace Keeper By French... Religion, as described by French Sociologist Émile Durkheim, connotes a unified system of beliefs and practices, relative to sacred things (Durkheim, 1965). The word unified suggests religion plays the role of a peace keeper, presenting individuals with a shared sense of understanding through the rituals, as well as the belief in a higher power or God. Within a contemporary society, religion is arguably playing a different role to that which it played during the early 20th century, a time throughout which Durkheim s sociological influence and research was prominent. Contemporary, postmodern societies are far more likely to use and exploit religion in a varying way, for many reasons technological advances and media takeovers, not to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Figures show that religious participation rates are indicative of a generational effect involving religion, in which 48% of children tend to follow either their mother or (a little less often) their father into their religion (Voas, 2005). In this case, the influence from parents is arguably the main factor leading them into religion. Voas goes on to state that for children with no religious influence from parents, the chance of the joining a religion is significantly lower. To me, this shows that the role of religion in contemporary societies Is not necessarily about the individuals own needs, rather it stems from family and continues across generations. However, as Voas (2005) then goes on to outline, with each generation comes less religiosity. Certain factors overtake the importance of religion, and thus as a new child is born, so is another consumer of capitalism. However, one downfall of Voas research is that It is only based on contemporary society in Britain. This factor hinders otherwise strong stand alone statistics, which would be far more comparable had other contemporary societies been considered. Postmodernism and interlinking theorists are important to bring into this discussion of religion. In recent years, postmodern researchers such as Lyon and Davie have produced inquisitive and relevant studies on religion within the modern world. In the article How to Discipline a Child for Lying by Maria Magher gives five steps. To understand the reasons were the very first step. For example, if your child is lying to get attention, focus on giving more praise for good behavior and spend more one on one time together. The second step was to discuss the expectations for honesty. If they are in a situation in which you suspect that may be lying, or in which they may be tempted to lie remind them to encourage the truth. The third step was to make outcomes and be consistent in implementing them. In the same article, Dr. Phil McGraw states When children know what consequences they will faces as a result of lying, they make the choice each time to either lie or to accept the punishment . However, consequences should be age appropriate and specific such as loss of phone privileges, limited social time or removal of the television from the bedroom. The fourth step was to set your child up for progress. Don t ask your child questions to which you know the answer and might be tempted to lie.
