Examples Of Miscommunication In Dante s Inferno
Vladimir Zhdanov

Honors Freshman Literature and Composition
29 January 2013
Compassion into Indifference The true value of a human being can be found in the degree to which he
has attained liberation from the self and mind . This quote by Albert Einstein demonstrates the
emotional struggle of Dante as he traversed through hell. The Inferno, as a story, has metamorphosised
the way people envision compassion. Dante showed his readers that compassion is repugnant in order
to develop into a more spiritually enlightened individual. The Inferno, by Dante Alighieri, presents
that Dante s reaction to sinners from compassion and pity to indifference reflects his journey from
naïveté to spiritual enlightenment, through the empathy of Dante, ... Show more content on

Dante s realization begins with the Sowers of Scandal and Schism, where he meets a soul who refuses
to talk to Dante. Here Dante says to a soul, You, who cast your eyes upon the ground, if these features
are not false, must be Venedico Caccianemico, but what brings you to sauces so piquant? (Alighieri,
XVIII 49). At this point, Dante is now more mature in his judgment of sins. Rather than feel pity for
this sinner, he mocks the sinner for being submerged in a pile of excrement. His words do not present
any compassion for the sinner. Dante yet again shows his maturity when he speaks to Count Ugolino,
where he says, For if Count Ugolino had the fame of having thy castles thee betrayed, thou should not
on such cross have put his sons (Alighieri, XXXIII 85). Dante feels no compassion for the Count, and
condemns his for his apostate crime. Finally, Dante demonstrates floccinaucinihilipilification when he
meets Bocca Delgi Abate. When Dante sees him, and then by the scalp I seized upon him, and said: it
need to be thou name thyself or not a hair remains upon thee here (Alighieri, XXXIII 96). As a result,
Dante finally realizes that sinners deserve their punishment. Rather than just ignore this sinner, Dante
even impertinently pulls out the sinner s hair to show his understanding of indifference. Thus, this
realization has made it possible for Dante

The Immigration And Customs Enforcement Essay
ICE stands for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement, they deal with matters concerning border
control, customs, trade and immigration to insure public safety and homeland security. Their priorities
focus on preventing terrorism and the illegal movement of items, as well as people. Within ICE, there
are three subgroups that fall into specialized tasks for the agency, such as Homeland security
investigations (HSI) and the Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO). Although being a fairly
new agency there has been more than a few controversies on how ICE handles the illegal immigrants,
however, since 9/11 the U.S has been trying to find the most effective ways to stop terrorism. So, that
also means that not everyone would agree with the tactics that ICE used to solve the problem for those
specific cases.
The U.S has been known as the land of opportunities, so of course people from all over the world
would try to leave their countries that weren t thriving economically after World War I, this lead to
immigration into the US to rise significantly. Every year, the State Department issued a limited
number of visas; only those immigrants who had obtained them and could present valid visas were
permitted entry. Because of the limited number of visas, the number of illegal attempts into the
country began to occur. The Border Patrol was established when illegal aliens and entries started
becoming more frequent, the strict guidelines also causing deportation to go on as well.

Fifth Business Analysis
There are multiple similarities between Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken and Robertson Davies

How Technology Has Changed Business
The rise in technology over the last two decades has affected businesses tremendously. E business is
changing not only how we buy and sell but is transforming the way we do business altogether. In the
fast paced and competitive nature of the business marketplace, e business has allowed companies to
increase the value of their organization by improving their operations, not just allowing customers to
buy over the internet. In order to stay competitive, businesses must embrace the culture change into
new technology. This is one of the greatest challenges that business face today. It is important to
recognize how technology has influenced businesses, how new technologies can be adopted, and what
it means for consumers and organizations.
E business is the use of Internet technologies to link customers, suppliers, business partners, and
employees (Information Week, Dec 13, 1999). This can be in the form of e commerce websites that
offer sale transactions, customer service websites, intranets and enterprise portals, extranets and
supply chains, and lastly, IP electronic data interchange. The use of these different networks and
technologies all businesses to improve, enable, enhance, invent, or transform a business process.
Basically, technology helps build and manage relationships within a business to potentially transform
a firm into a networked entity with seamless supply chains and superior value creation processes.
The adoption of innovative technology can be viewed from

By utilizing a Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) analysis, individuals and
corporations alike can determine where their weak spots are and attempt to correct them prior to the
risk occurring. Taking into consideration the Benefits Election System, there are several potential risks
within the systems. These risks include database corruption, spyware, and hacking.
Database Corruption
Database corruption is one potential safety concern for the Benefits Election System. Database
corruption comes in several forms including viruses and worms. Viruses act as a real program that is
installed on the computer or network and every time the program is accessed the virus spreads to other
programs until the system and/or computer essentially crashes. On the other hand, worms attack the
security holes within a network. Like viruses, worms attach themselves to holes within the security of
the network. Once worms have attached to the network the worm then scans for other networks with
holes to replicate. This kind of corruption to the system can lead to loss and damage of information on
the system. Anti corruption software is readily available in today s market which reduces

B-25 Mitchell Research Papers
The B 25 Mitchell is a plane that was used as a medium bomber during World War II by The Army Air
Corp. The Reason for its creation was because of the need of a new and improved medium bomber.
This bomber went on to be a major role in The Doolittle Raid. The company known as North
American Aviation to date has created nearly 10,000 B 25 Mitchells. Over the four decades of service
the B 25 Mitchell came across many new and improved models such as the B 25A B 25H. The B 25 is
one of the most well known bombers during World War II and is a symbol of just how powerful
America was in the war. In the year of 1938 the Army Air Corp was looking for a new type of medium

was first created it was limited to a three man crew with a light armor shell and two operating gun
turrets. After seeing that technology was becoming a big role in military, North American Aviation
took the B 25A back to the drawing board. After making a few minor adjustments, the North American
Aviation B 25B rolled off the assembly line. The all new B 25B had a brand new autopilot system
aboard, while being able to accommodate a six man crew, gaining to new power operated gun turrets
but in the end losing the tail gunner. While the B 25B was going into service North American Aviation
was already back at it thinking of new and improved ways to already make the aircraft better than it
already was. This ended up leading to the creation of the new structurally, and mechanically modified
B 25C. How the new aircraft was structurally modified is by the change in the aircraft s dihedral
which lead to the aircraft being more stable while in flight. The new and improved B 25C also
included and new plexiglass window for the navigator, new deicing components to keep ice from
forming on the wings, and also included heavier weaponry in the nose of the aircraft to help keep the

Elements Of Catholicism And Voodoo
A religion can be defined as a system of belief that manifest, to some degree, the following eight
elements: belief system, community, central myths, ritual, ethics, characteristic emotional experience,
material expression, and sacredness. Depending on the religion, some of these elements may carry
more weight than others. I will look at Catholicism and Voodoo and the role some of these elements
play within these systems of belief.
Catholicism is a monotheistic religion believing that God is the Creator of all that is. We must love
and serve God in our daily life, through prayer and good works, in order to achieve salvation. The
element of central myths plays a large role within the Catholic faith, as the Bible is the core of

Eucharist is when we receive the body and blood of Christ through the symbols of bread and wine. It
further extends the initiation that took place at baptism to enter fully into the heart of Christian faith
through participation in the Eucharist (catholic.org,2017). Confirmation is the final step of initiation. It
is receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit that unites us more firmly with Christ and strengthens our bond
with the Church. The remaining four Sacraments guide us through the rest of our life. The Sacrament
of Penance is received regularly to confess our sins and seek forgiveness so that we may remain in
God s grace. The Sacrament of Marriage takes place when two people commit to spend the rest of
their life together, anointing of the sick is when a priest anoints a sick person with oil and offers
prayers, and Holy Orders is the sacrament that takes place with the ordination of a bishop, priest, or
deacon into ministry (Molloy, M., 2010).
Voodoo is also a monotheistic religion that combines Catholic and African beliefs and is often
surrounded by many misconceptions. Voodoo has been portrayed by the media as a form of devil
worship and curses, with Voodoo dolls being used to inflict pain on one s enemies (ancient
origins.net). It is practiced primarily in Haiti, New Orleans, and the Caribbean. This religion is several
hundred years old, dating back to when African slaves were brought to America from Haiti. They were

Langston Hughes Identity
Search for Identity in the Poetry of Langston Hughes In exploring the problem of identity in Black
literature we find no simple or definite explanation. Nevertheless, it is generally accepted that it is
rooted in the reality of the discriminatory social system in America with its historic origins in the
institution of slavery. One can discern that this slavery system imposes a double burden on the Negro
through severe social and economic inequalities and through the heavy psychological consequences
suffered by the Negro who is forced to play an inferior role, 1 the latter relates to the low self estimate,
feeling of helplessness and basic identity conflict. Thus, in some form or the other, every Negro
American is confronted with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His own life influenced his art. Being born in a Negro family and at a time of racial discrimination
from his early childhood, he had to bear the ruthless behaviour of the whites. So, from the very
beginning of his life he faced many problems viz., racial discrimination, lack of identity in the society
and no actual or practical freedom of blacks etc. All this put a remarkable impact on his mind, on his
soul and made him a poet of blacks. A great votary of black art, Hughes inaugurated a distinct
movement of negritude which may be regarded as the soul of Harlem. Rising from his consciousness
of the colour of his skin and passing through various stages of identification with people and territory
of Africa and finally grounding it in the American Past, negritude in the poetry of Hughes evolves into
a definite and enduring concept expressive of definite vision.6 But he doesn t suffer from what W.E.B.
DuBois terms as double consciousness two souls, two thoughts, two unreconciled strivings; two
warring ideals in one dark body. 7 Langston Hughes in his essay on The Negro Artist and

A Critique of Today s Process of Ijtihad
A Critique of Today s Process of Ijtihad
Recent achievements in Islamic banking do not indicate an advance in the jurists interpretation of riba.
Writings on riba have been extensively concerned with the expositions of riba, but with disquisitions
about riba. Thought about riba, and any other Qur anic penetrative codes, must be a story of
movements in outlook and ever changing ideas, and developments taking place in contemporary social
sciences. Its province is destined by God, may he be exalted, in a way to be determined and re
determined in the course of time by drawing insights from different branches of human science. The
subject of riba, and other divine codes in Qur an regarding dealings and transactions is such that no
cohesive delineation of the scope can be regarded as final.
Some of needless difficulties that have arisen in a proper interpretation of riba are of linguistic origin.
The jurist s business is with words. Words are not only tools of thought, but also control it.
Accordingly, to think profitably about riba will be assisted by a sharpened awareness of possibilities
of language, not only to lead thought but also to mislead it. This paves the ground on which the
Islamic jurists adherence to their predecessors grasp of riba is questioned. This should not be deemed
a denial of the rich legacy handed down from the predecessors. A modern society cannot but build
upon the foundations laid in the past.
However, this must be carried out with due

California Drought And Organic Versus Conventional Farming
California Drought and Organic Versus Conventional Farming
Introduction California s ideal weather would be rainy winters and dry summers, but that isn t the case
anymore. Many people are concerned and deeply worried about the world s constant decrease in the
fresh water supply and the social, economic, and environmental issues that are caused from this
drought. A textbook definition of a drought is a prolonged period of abnormally low rainfall which
results in a shortage of water, which is normal considering California has been given the title in its
recent years the term drought since 2012. Even though being in a drought is nothing new to California,

The only problem with relying on groundwater is that it needs to be recharged by wetter years in order
to be stable and not continue to diminish. With the drought targeting the agricultural community in
California, many farmers are starting to research more ways on how to become drought efficient. The
two common methods of farming are organic and conventional. Different farming methods have their
own way on affecting the public health and the environment through herbicides and pesticides. Some
of the benefits of organic technologies are higher soil organic matter and nitrogen, lower fossil energy
inputs, and conservation of soil moisture and water resources (Pimentel and Hepperly 2008).
Conventional farming can be more ecological by adapting some of the organic technologies. The
objective of this literature review is to better understand the problems that arise from being in a
drought, the water supply, and how farmers are adapting to the change in climate.

Modernization and Dependency Theory
Modernization and Dependency theory
Nowadays the rapid development of the word and the growing integration of countries can hardly fail
to affect the development of new theories which attempt to explain the relationship between countries
and the existing inequality between developed countries and countries of the third world. In this
respect, it is possible to refer to Modernization theory and Dependency theory which, being quite
different, still have certain similarities in their views on the modern world and relationships between
developed and developing countries.
It is worthy of mention that the comparison of these theories will help better understand the current
trends in international relations and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, differences between Modernization theory and Dependency theory result from the origin of
Dependency theory which, as it has been already mentioned above, was developed in response to
Modernization theory. On analyzing existing differences between the two theories, first of all, it is
necessary to underline that Modernization theory views the development of the world and
relationships between developed and developing countries as the relationships of potentially equal
countries which are just at a different stage of development at the moment. To put it more precisely,
Modernization theory stands on the ground that western countries are well developed and western way
of development is viewed as the most successful and perspective while there is practically no other
alternatives to this way of the development. This is why the supporters of this theory insist on the
necessity to develop the cooperation between developed and developing countries in order to make the
latter closer to the former. What is meant here is the fact that Modernization theory underlines the
necessity of borrowing the experience of western countries by developing countries of the Third world
(Scott 196). Basically, developing countries should follow blindly the example of more developed
western countries and this will bring them economic, social, and

Several macroeconomic factors indicate that the basic ingredients for successful creation of a digital

When one considers the array of financial services that are available as a part of the formal financial

The History of Deaf Education Essay
Long before Thomas Gallaudet founded the first permanent school for the deaf in America,

Firewood that Burns the Hottest and the Longest
Purpose:
Does the species of wood affect the rate at which it burns and how much heat it gives off?
Hypothesis:
If the burning time and heat temperature relies on the type of wood, then oak and maple should burn
the longest and give off more heat because they are dense hardwoods.
Research:
The terms hardwood and softwood refer to the density of wood, how hard it is, and how much weight
it has. A dense hardwood like oak or maple has high energy content per cord, so it releases more heat

Employees Are The Most Important Factor Of Production
Employees are indeed a crucial part of any organization and are often referred to by economists as the
most important factor of production. For many years, employers have been faced with the issue of
retention and are fairly cautious when it comes to managing and retaining their workforce. Included in
this is having the best possible employees or talent on your team working efficiently to ensure the
business is stable and successful. As it is said an organization can only be as successful as the people
working with them . Ensuring you have the proper team is crucial but if there is any downfall to an
individual employee this can slow production or lower morale amongst your employees. There are
three different broad groups employees can be categorized within depending on their contribution
within the organization. These three broad groups are the engaged employees, the non engaged
employees, and also the actively disengaged employees. Engaged employees are the desirables for any
organization as these employees are self motivated and want better for the organization and take pride
and passion into their work. They often put their best foot forward and want to move the organization
in the right direction. Non engaged employees are those employees who are disconnected from their
employers who tend to just do the bare minimum and have minimal pride in their work. These can be
identified as those employees who simply show up to get a check and leave. The final group, actively

Perception People perceive the same situation in their own ways. We learn from the flow of
information through our five senses: sight, sound, smell, touch and taste. However, each of us
receives, organises and interprets the received sensory information in an individual way using short
and long term memory as part of the process. ¡§Perception is the process by which people select,
organize and interpret information to form a meaningful, whole picture of the world. It is influenced
by selective exposure, selective distortion, and selective retention.¡¨ (Kotler, Brown, Adam Armstrong,
2004) Selective exposure means that brand marketers work especially hard to attract the consumer¡¦s
attention. For instance, bra stylists are working very hard on this to capture female consumers¡¦
attention to purchase their products. Triumph¡¦s bra designers have long begun to blend Western and
Chinese influences to create fascinating effects in order to gain consumer¡¦s awareness. Selective
distortion refers to the tendency of people to adapt information to personal meanings. Brand marketers
always try to understand the mindsets of consumers and how they will affect interpretations of
advertising and sales information. However, people have a propensity to interpret information

Summary Of Lizard Radio, By Lizartaz
What exactly is socialization? Socialization is the way of life in their society and the process of social
interaction through which people acquire personality and identity. It helps us learn about things, what
we like, and what we are interested in through other people, but also how we learn what the norms are
in the culture in which we live in. In the book, Lizard Radio by Pat Schmatz, there are many different
types of socialization that can be found throughout the writing. Family, education, peer groups, and
work place are all different agents of socialization that Lizard used throughout CropCamp. But, how
did Lizard negotiate the differences from what she has been taught by Sheila and Korm versus the
norms of CropCamp? Lizard did follow ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She was trying to tell Lizard what she was. Because of this experience of socialization, Lizard started
to slowly become more of just herself. She wasn t a leader or a follower, she was Kivali. She learned
about things, what she liked, what she is interested in through the other people in CropCamp. After
she found herself, she set out to do what she thought was right. When she escaped CropCamp, she
faced both positive and negative sanctions. An unexpected event occurred when she was walking
along side of the road. It was Shelia pulling over (positive). Although Lizard ended up finding Shelia,
who was presumed vaped, she was risking getting expulled from CropCamp (negative). Although it
was very unlikely since Machete was Lizard s biological mother. By learning from her decisions,
Lizard became a true individual and found her way in the world. In the book, Lizard Radio by Pat

From socialization to agents of socialization, there are many examples demonstrated throughout the

Analysis Of Salinger s The Rye

The Catcher in the Rye, published in 1951 by J.D. Salinger, has been banned multiple times
worldwide because of much controversy surrounding the book s depiction of underage sex, drinking,
profanity, and tobacco use. However, Catcher should be taught in American high schools because the
book includes many controversial subjects surrounding teenagers, including depression, suicide, social
isolation, and teenage angst, all of which many students can relate to and identify with. Readers of the
book can learn important lessons about life, perception, and dealing with our emotions.
Including the book in an academics course is a good idea because readers of all ages can learn a lot
about issues surrounding teenagers. For example: It is interesting to see how the problems surrounding
the youth of the 50 s are some of the very same problems affecting the youth of today. Although a
much simpler time, some teenagers growing up in the early 1950 s faced depression, social anxiety,
and diversion, as do some of the youth of today. Some of the problems we face today are nothing new,
they have been around for decades. Although today, we do not have the pressing issues of the Cold
War and Korean war, just as back then they did not have the issues of terrorism or the new Snapchat
update taking an extra hour to download. It just goes to show that time cannot change everything.
Holden, like some teenagers, has a very

Sherlock Holmes Vs. Sherlock
Since the creation of Sherlock Holmes and his confidante John Watson in the late 18th century the pair
have not only collected a cult following throughout the generations but they are also remarked as the
epitome of competent police work. The characters Holmes and Watson have been recreated and re
imagined countless times by various different authors. John and Sherlock have on some occasion been
imagined as women, serial killers and sometimes even zombies. Holmes and Watson have become the
staple of what it means to be not only capable detectives but Englishmen. Sherlock s ability to be
unapologetically accurate and calculating paired with John Watson s comforting and sensitive nature

This arrangement works for the both of them, as John gets to write about the intricacy that is the brain
and life of Sherlock Holmes, while Holmes has someone to stoke his ego and make him feel
intelligent. However, the dynamic that they ve created between them is destroyed in The Sign of Four
when Mary Morstan makes her first appearance. Prior to her introduction, John Watson s time and
focus was entirely with Sherlock and their cases, but being with Mary means moving on from his wild
days with Sherlock and instead into the life that he was groomed to live as a married man in the
domestic realm.
Doyle s take on the relationship between John and Mary begin and end on two drastically different
airs. When Morstan is first introduced she comes to Sherlock and John in need of help finding her
father who she has unsuccessfully been searching for. John describes Mary as a blonde young lady,
small, dainty, well gloved, and dressed in the most perfect taste...her face had neither regularity of
feature nor beauty of complexion, but her expression was sweet and amiable, and he large blue eyes
were singularly spiritual and sympathetic (Doyle). John is immediately taken with her. He describes
with her with words like small , dainty , perfect and sweet . To John, Mary represents not only a
woman he can see himself settling down with but she is the perfect vision of the proper

The Polo Clad Students
It was the first Tuesday of the school year. I stood at a distance and carefully studied the faces of the
polo clad students filing noisily into the classroom. Behind my welcoming smile, I wondered if it was
possible to tell from the way they carried themselves which children would immediately be responsive
to the obscure milieu of a new instrument and which would be more difficult to work with. I watched
as the kids accidentally banged their cello or violin cases while trying to excitedly squeeze through the
door all at once, and then my gaze shifted to a smaller boy at the back of the group. He seemed to be
examining the floor.
I sat down. The advisor directed the boy to the chair next to mine. He was to be my student. He
wouldn t look at me.
Hi! I m Aubree, I said in the warmest voice I could manage. Are you excited to learn violin? I sure can
t wait to work with you!
He stared at the floor again, swinging his feet. I nervously exhaled. It was going to be a long year.
This is my newest student, Edward. The attached photograph depicts one of our first lessons together.
I have grown to deeply care for him since I began teaching him free of charge through an outreach
program called Para Los Niños. He represents the potential I see in every child, and on a more
personal level, he has deepened my awareness of and gratitude for every person that has been involved
in my musical education. Because of Edward, I am quickly developing a vigorous belief that learning

Brief Summary Of The Story Sticks By George Saunders
In Sticks by George Saunders, the object was a pole that his father did strange things with it. In the
beginning of the narrative, it seems his father was doing not vary strange and mysterious deeds by the
pole. It used to represent certain characters/idols in specific times. For example, his father used to
make the pole Uncle Sam, on Veteran s Day a soldier, on Halloween a ghost. However, from the
second paragraph and on, the narrative starts to get darker as his children have grown up, they get
married and left their father by himself. The father arranges his old objects around the pole; such as,
army medals, theater tickets, old sweatshirts, tubes of Mom s makeup. Then the meaning of the pole
started to get more interesting as the father protect the pole from an earthquake, paint the pole yellow
in the fall and cover the pole with cotton in the winter. I believe the pole become the father s relieve as
he misses his wife, and his children have grown up and left the house. In the end, his father died and
the new owners of the house threw the pole away as garbage that is meaningless to everyone else. ...

also mentions that the outline for Harry Potter came from Levinson s Young Sherlock Holmes (Null).
Michael Noble, another movie critic, agrees that Young Sherlock Holmes was possibly the beginning

Seed Germination Lab Report
Introduction:
As the weather gets warmer, and with spring being just around the corner, many gardeners and farmers
are getting prepared to gather materials that they will use to grow their plants this year. One of these
materials could be the usage of a synthetic fertilizer, like Miracle Gro, to speed up the growth rate of
the plant. As these types of fertilizers become more popular, anyone who may be new to the field of
agricultural growth may question on whether or not synthetic fertilizers, like Miracle Gro, actually
help in speeding up a seed s growth rate. This lab will help to determine an answer by looking at types
of seeds and how they react with and without Miracle Gro. The two types of seeds that will be used in
this experiment are known as monocot and dicot. Monocots and dicots mainly differ in their structural
make and their germination process. Monocots, only give sprout ... Show more content on

Over the 7 day period, the graph effectively shows that the barley treated by the Miracle Gro
germinated at a much higher rate than the water only treatment. Having a ratio of 1:2, 1:3, and 1:2
with its respective days, it displays how effective the fertilizer was in germinating the seed. The
average shoot length between the two treatments are similar in results to the percent of seeds
germinated. The seeds treated by the Miracle Gro resulted in a higher shoot and root average. The
ratios, when the two treatments are put side by side, display similar ratios as well, showing a 1:2 ratio.
Overall it can be stated however that even though there were many seeds, from both treatments, that
germinated, the Miracle Gro treatment showed a more affluent result as the treatment actually grew
significantly compared to the water treatment.

Key Supervisory Issues And Improvement Of Banking Regulation
The financial instability of the past few years has provided important evidence that can be used for the
detection of dangerous flaws in the international banking system. After the financial crisis of 2008
2009, the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision made significant steps in improving
understanding the key supervisory issues and improvement of banking regulation worldwide.
Subsequently, new standards were created for banking system regulation, which represents upgraded
capital requirements, liquidity norms, and additional monitoring tools for banking supervision and
regulation. These standards were first established in 2009 by the BCBS though some of the
Committee s proposals remain currently open for discussion.

This leads to increase from 4% (Basel II) to 8% of the risk weighted assets in requirements regarding
the Tier 1 Capital (which includes only common shares and undistributed profit). The second
important inclusion of Basel III relates to the size of balance sheets which banks should strive to
reduce: leverage ratio puts a limit on a list of activities a bank can develop compared to its capital. The
minimum capital adequacy ratio that is required to be maintained by a bank is 8% (without the capital
conservation buffer), which must reach 10,5% of the total assets. The third basic element of Basel III
relates to liquidity. To provide a bank for equilibrium between loans and deposits Basel III has
developed specific regulation which initiates with risk assessment through the stress test. Basel III
compels banks to have sufficient liquidity available during a period of 30 days of stressed conditions.
Under these circumstances only half serves to reimburse the bank and the bank is expected to inject
the other 50% in the economy by granting new loans. Thus, loans with a maturity of 50% leave the
bank once more. For deposits, Basel III states that the first group, individuals, and SMEs, leave the
bank at the rate of 5% to 10% during the stress test. While for bank deposits, it is 100%. For

The Library Portal As We Know It Today Is Unsustainable
Put simply, the library portal as we know it today is unsustainable. It, along with a host of other
indicators such as declines in reference questions and shifts from print to e resources, signals that for
academic libraries a let s just keep doing business as usual mentality is a sure path to obsolescence.
(Bell via Tumbleson, p. 974)
The Issue:
The Association of College and Research Libraries guidelines for the provision of library services to
distance learners states that services must be equivalent to those provided for students and faculty in
traditional campus settings (ACRL, 2008). With the demographics of students changing to include
increasing amounts of online and distance learners, as well as a more diversified range of ages of
students, no one way of instruction or library interaction is going to assuage every user s expectations
within this diverse group. This shift creates the need to re examine the core services offered by
academic libraries such as information literacy, effective searching strategies and reference help.
Libraries can no longer rely on just their in person reference and research services. Seal (2008) best
defines this shift from reference and instruction to learning and engagement (p. 257). An emerging
solution for this shift is the embedded librarian.
Lewis (2007) among others, presents the embedded librarian as the up and coming model for
academic library services when he attempts to outline a strategy for academic libraries to

Reflecting this, the need to cut costs is a central tenant of the Group s strategy for Qantas. According
to the airline, the cost base is around 20 per cent higher than key competitors.3 It simply does not have
the low cost structure of many of the competitors, especially the Asian competitors. Neither does
Qantas have the well positioned hubs of the competitor Asian and Middle Eastern carriers.
Accordingly Qantas is having to undertake its marketing in an environment where competitors, such
as Emirates, Etihad, and Singapore Airlines

primarily to Asia and Europe, are loss making.4
In contrast, a central tenant of the JetStar strategy is to grow the brand in Asian markets through
standalone operations, joint ventures and strategic alliances, as much as possible and as rapidly as
possible. Jetstar is one of the world s fastest growing and most profitable low fares airlines, set for

For Houston, the turnover battle was their friend last season as their turnover margin was plus 1.5 per

The only game the Cougars lost last season due to the turnover battle not being in their favor was to
the Connecticut Huskies. In that game alone, Houston turned over the ball four times. That is a not
recipe for success.
However, Herman is also right when he says yards don t matter because in that game against UConn,
the Cougars out gained the Huskies 318 315.
Finally, one more stat that Herman spoke about was explosive plays, which Houston charts and it s
another why they are successful.
If you win the turnover battle and the explosive play battle in the same game, you win it 98 percent of
the time, Herman told Godfrey and Connelly.
Obviously, these are the stats to success for the Cougars and thus far it has worked out for them. It will

One prominent problem is that historic sites could lose their value, and get damaged. In other words,
once a tourist visits a historic site, it s most likely he or she won t be back to that site for a long period
of time. Thus, the tourist ends up taking a small piece of wood, or anything that is related to the place
as a memory. Subsequently, if millions of people do the same, then the historic site will lose its value,
and eventually become worthless. Moreover, because of the pollutant gasses the cars, and the planes
release into the air, the tourists could contaminate the locations they visit, especially remote places,
such as islands. Secondly, the tourists might make the native inhabitants uncomfortable. To provide
explanation, because the tourists don t share the same values as the natives, worship different deities,
or cloth in an un desirable fashion the native people can end up feeling offended. Lastly, the
government might decide to focus resources on tourists rather than its citizens. This phenomenon is
largely thanks to tourism bringing a lot of revenue compared to many other industries. Therefore,
making the government spend more money on making the country tourism friendly rather than
improving the lives of the residents. To recap, international tourism can damage historic sites, offend
the natives, and result in the government focusing more on tourism.

The absorption of light by normal bilirubin (4Z,15Z bilirubin) results in the creation of 2 isomeric
forms of bilirubin: structural isomer (Z lumirubin) and configurational isomer (4Z,15 E bilirubin).
Both these structural and configurational isomers of bilirubin have substantially different chemical
and light absorption properties than bilirubin, are less lipophilic than normal bilirubin and can be
excreted into bile without undergoing glucuronidation in the liver. The absorption of light by bilirubin
also results in the generation of excited state bilirubin molecules that react with oxygen to produce
colorless oxidation, or photooxidation products. The rate of formation of bilirubin photoproducts is
highly dependent on the intensity and wavelengths of the light used (13). The most efficient

The Misogynistic Henry Higgins
The Misogynistic Henry Higgins
The key to understanding George Bernard Shaw s Pygmalion lies in understanding the power struggle
between the haves and have nots specifically the active and intentional disenfranchisement of women
at the turn of the 20th century. At the core of Pygmalion there is a focus on the societal inequities of
the day, with Shaw presenting society s treatment of women as property without rights and with little
understanding of their surroundings or place in society. Throughout the 19th century, and into the
early 20th century, when Shaw penned Pygmalion, British laws and society actively restrained
women, both politically and economically.

Much of English society and government mirrored Higgins beliefs. In 1888, an appeals court judge,
Lord Esther, ruled that neither by Common Law nor by the Constitution of this country from the
beginning of the Common Law until now can a woman be entitled to exercise any public function.
(Aked) This is notable because, just as with the Reform Act of 1832, the ruling was a detriment to
women, as women were already exercising public functions , such as overseers, way wardens, church
wardens and members of school boards. This ruling was the first of several rulings and legislations
that removed rights and governmental access from women.
These actions of the British Parliament led to the creation of several suffrage movement organizations

British Women s Temperance Association, The Women s Textile Union, The Women s Labor League,
The National Union of Women s Suffrage Societies, The Women s Social and Political Union, and The
Men s League for Woman Suffrage, as well as many others. It is well known that Shaw was an avid
proponent of women s freedom and suffrage, and it is quite possible that Shaw wrote Pygmalion with
the idea of promoting women s suffrage as, only three years earlier, he had already penned a

from tailors to servants to clerks to food merchant at Urban Centers. In my opinion, our country is
populated enough and we do not need people from other countries joining in now. There is a reason
that Germans are called Germans, and that Irish are called Irish. It is because of the fact that being a
German is because you are from Germany and same with any other country. As long as we are staying
in our country, why must others leave theirs? We are called Americans because we are from America
and everyone else gets their title because of their nationality, place of birth, or simply where the family
originated. This could also cause problems for our country with a largely increasing population. If you
think about it, you realize that if our country doesn t change with the new population, folks may have
to either build new homes or move in with residents of the area. People have different ideas but this
can seriously cause major issues for our country. I am not sure that the United States would even be
considered as our country

The Nazi Party And The Nazis
The Nazi s quest to unite Germany under the notion of One People, One Empire affected and impacted
many social groups in Germany. Women were utilized by the Nazi Party in ensuring the survival and
production of the future generations of Germany, and maintaining the ideal and traditional version of
the Aryan mother and wife. There was also a lot of pressure directed towards artists and writers. Who
in the eyes of the Nazi party, were meant to conform to art forms such as neoclassicism and traditional
styles as to promote the Aryan ideals and power of Nazi Germany. German youth was also captivated,
indoctrinated and utilized by the Nazi Party, in order to fulfil Hitler s visions of future Germany, with
strong Aryan leaders and soldiers.
The Nazi party manipulated the education and upbringing of many German youths, garnering their
loyalty, strength and numbers through the concept of racial unity. The Youth began as the very first
and essential step in creating a new generation of Nazi s who would eventually come to inherit
Germany. The German education system had been hijacked and transformed in order to encapsulate an
entire generation of youths into fighting for one cause, the Nazi Cause. Especially at an age, were
children were susceptible to the vigour and power of authority. Simple things such as children s
picture books and bedtime stories had been altered to portray Jewish characters as villainous and
sinister, and Aryans as heroes and legendary. School subjects

The United States And The Western Coalition
The United States and the Western Coalition has long looked at the Middle East as a asset with little
risk high reward potential. They have all have looked at them as high reward low risk a region that in
contrast has an abundance natural resources in particular oil with very underwhelming population.
Even if they had a product that could reach out and touch the masses the internal struggles and lack of
cohesion and structure to get out of the region. Both the United States and Western coalition watched

Pure fiction but the was that the Soviet troops invaded Kabul on December 25th 1979, on order from
Moscow to replace the radical Hafizullah Amin with the Soviet endorsed Babrak Karmal as head of
the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan. Which Hollywood spun as a Cold War tactic to or chess
move to get a upper hand on the United States. When in reality the Soviet decision to invade
Afghanistan was foremost driven by the security concerns a rapidly weakening Afghanistan,
vulnerable to Islamic extremism and Western encroachment, posed to the Soviet Union s southern
borders. The Second evolution consideration was due to was the longest war of the twentieth and
length was the consideration that came from it. The Iran Iraq War began when Iraq invaded Iran via air
and land on 22 September 1980. It followed a long history of border disputes, and was motivated by
fears that the Iranian Revolution in 1979 would inspire insurgency among Iraq s long suppressed Shia
majority, as well as Iraq s desire to replace Iran as the dominant Persian Gulf state. Although Iraq
hoped to take advantage of Iran s revolutionary chaos and attacked without formal warning, it made
only limited progress into Iran. Length came into consideration due to the 1987 modification of the
Soviet Scud B missile prolonging its range, increasing the concern for neighboring countries. Both

The Dangers Of Fear In The Chrysalids By John Wyndham
Reading a book about where hate is shown for those who are different makes you realize that we
ourselves, do not live in a much different society. Waknuk is a place where if anything abnormal
appears along the lines of their definition of normal, the consequences could lead to as serious as
death. The Chrysalids written by John Wyndham is a clear warning for today s society portraying the
same problems and deficiencies. All in all, the people of Waknuk face constant prejudice, intolerance,
and ignorance. There is a relentless lack of compassion and the novel invites its readers to understand
how fear can shape the hearts and manipulate society.
The novel coincides with today s society through its intolerance towards others which also comes
along with prejudice and ignorance. Within the novel, the people of Waknuk do not accept the
abnormalities defined from their views and faith. They do not tolerate the fact of others being different
from them and are quick to eliminate them from society giving you the impression of The Holocaust.
Why should they be afraid of us? We aren t hurting them, she broke in. I m not sure that I know why, I
told her. But they are. It s a feel thing not a think thing. And the more stupid they are, the more like
everyone else they think everyone ought to be. And once they get afraid they become cruel and want
to hurt people who are different (Wyndham 144). In today s society, you find different people
considered inferior because of

The Chemical Ingredient Of Acetylsalicylic Acid Essay
Acetylsalicylic acid is the active pharmaceutical ingredient that is found in aspirin and is used to treat
inflammation, pain and fever. It is created by an esterification reaction of salicylic acid with acetic
anhydride in the presence of an acid catalyst. At the end of the reaction, a product and unreacted
salicylic acid and acid catalyst was created. The product contains impurities, such as acetic anhydride
and salicylic acid, which needs to be removed. Crystallization, a technique used to purify substances,
produces crystals and the impurities get filtered under the vacuum. Adding water after the crystals are
made but before the crystals are vacuumed helps to purify the crystals and get rid of some impurities.
Melting the crystals can determine the purity of the product that was made. When performing the
experiment, salicylic acid will be in a flask and in a water bath. It is important that it sits in the water
bath for at least eight minutes but no more than ten minutes. If it is in the water bath for more than ten
minutes, the salicylic acid could decompose. The purpose of this experiment was to determine the
presence of salicylic acid and starch in acetylsalicylic acid. The presence of salicylic acid can be
determined by performing a ferric chloride test. The presence of starch can be determined by
performing an iodine test. In order to find the percent yield, the following formula was used:
Percent yield= (Mass of product obtained experimentally)/(mass of product

Chinese Culture
According to Zimmermann (2015), Culture is the distinctive features and knowledge of a specific

structures unique to the group socializing (Center for Advanced Research on Language Acquisition,
2014).
China is one of the most complex nations in the world. From its numerous aspects of culture to its
intricate physical geography and storied military history. My paper will provide a brief view of the
nation s language, music, religion, cuisine, and arts. I will also provide a weather analysis and how its
effects on the country s economy and civil considerations.
Language
The language in China is Standard Chinese regionally referred to Putonghua, which is based on the

particularly Tibet, for example, implement a peculiar language that has no relevance to China in any
way. However, Mandarin Chinese is considered to be China s official language it s universally implied

The Citizen Report (2007) attempted to analyze the progress towards realization of MDGs in the

poverty. The decline in poverty was slow. Urban poverty was also the fall out of rural poverty as very
and poor move to urban slums to eke out livelihood. The report revealed that the present situation did
not reflect that poverty goals could be fulfilled by 2015. Efforts are required to enhance livelihood

Forest produce usage should be in favour of tribal and locals as they can manage minor produce to
generate income. Exclusion of people from forest would not help them. Employment guarantee
scheme has to be implemented more properly. Labour market information has to be improved and
migration controlled. Financing is a major problem. Funds need to be properly utilized for social
sector. There has to be short term, medium term and long term plans for financing health related
projects. Finances have to be mobilized from both public and private sources. The inter linkages of
various sectors and linkage of economy with outside are important. Trade can work both ways, but
efforts should be to use it effectively for betterment of poor. Tax structure requires a re look to
mobilize more resources for investment in social sector. Institutions delivering services are weak and
they need to be strengthened and new one created to have greater efficiency. Costing of specific
intervention also require attention as it would depend up on institutions and policy environment.
Selecting the best delivery system/ mechanism will reduce costs. Most MDGs cost estimates use a one
size fit all approach, based on linear relationships, which may not be true always. The cost of
expanding the coverage of a service in health and education by an extra ten percentage points, for
instance would depend on

  • 2. Examples Of Miscommunication In Dante s Inferno Vladimir Zhdanov Mrs. Nickel Honors Freshman Literature and Composition 29 January 2013 Compassion into Indifference The true value of a human being can be found in the degree to which he has attained liberation from the self and mind . This quote by Albert Einstein demonstrates the emotional struggle of Dante as he traversed through hell. The Inferno, as a story, has metamorphosised the way people envision compassion. Dante showed his readers that compassion is repugnant in order to develop into a more spiritually enlightened individual. The Inferno, by Dante Alighieri, presents that Dante s reaction to sinners from compassion and pity to indifference reflects his journey from naïveté to spiritual enlightenment, through the empathy of Dante, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dante s realization begins with the Sowers of Scandal and Schism, where he meets a soul who refuses to talk to Dante. Here Dante says to a soul, You, who cast your eyes upon the ground, if these features are not false, must be Venedico Caccianemico, but what brings you to sauces so piquant? (Alighieri, XVIII 49). At this point, Dante is now more mature in his judgment of sins. Rather than feel pity for this sinner, he mocks the sinner for being submerged in a pile of excrement. His words do not present any compassion for the sinner. Dante yet again shows his maturity when he speaks to Count Ugolino, where he says, For if Count Ugolino had the fame of having thy castles thee betrayed, thou should not on such cross have put his sons (Alighieri, XXXIII 85). Dante feels no compassion for the Count, and condemns his for his apostate crime. Finally, Dante demonstrates floccinaucinihilipilification when he meets Bocca Delgi Abate. When Dante sees him, and then by the scalp I seized upon him, and said: it need to be thou name thyself or not a hair remains upon thee here (Alighieri, XXXIII 96). As a result, Dante finally realizes that sinners deserve their punishment. Rather than just ignore this sinner, Dante even impertinently pulls out the sinner s hair to show his understanding of indifference. Thus, this realization has made it possible for Dante ... • 3. The Immigration And Customs Enforcement Essay ICE stands for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement, they deal with matters concerning border control, customs, trade and immigration to insure public safety and homeland security. Their priorities focus on preventing terrorism and the illegal movement of items, as well as people. Within ICE, there are three subgroups that fall into specialized tasks for the agency, such as Homeland security investigations (HSI) and the Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO). Although being a fairly new agency there has been more than a few controversies on how ICE handles the illegal immigrants, however, since 9/11 the U.S has been trying to find the most effective ways to stop terrorism. So, that also means that not everyone would agree with the tactics that ICE used to solve the problem for those specific cases. The U.S has been known as the land of opportunities, so of course people from all over the world would try to leave their countries that weren t thriving economically after World War I, this lead to immigration into the US to rise significantly. Every year, the State Department issued a limited number of visas; only those immigrants who had obtained them and could present valid visas were permitted entry. Because of the limited number of visas, the number of illegal attempts into the country began to occur. The Border Patrol was established when illegal aliens and entries started becoming more frequent, the strict guidelines also causing deportation to go on as well. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. How Technology Has Changed Business The rise in technology over the last two decades has affected businesses tremendously. E business is changing not only how we buy and sell but is transforming the way we do business altogether. In the fast paced and competitive nature of the business marketplace, e business has allowed companies to increase the value of their organization by improving their operations, not just allowing customers to buy over the internet. In order to stay competitive, businesses must embrace the culture change into new technology. This is one of the greatest challenges that business face today. It is important to recognize how technology has influenced businesses, how new technologies can be adopted, and what it means for consumers and organizations. E business is the use of Internet technologies to link customers, suppliers, business partners, and employees (Information Week, Dec 13, 1999). This can be in the form of e commerce websites that offer sale transactions, customer service websites, intranets and enterprise portals, extranets and supply chains, and lastly, IP electronic data interchange. The use of these different networks and technologies all businesses to improve, enable, enhance, invent, or transform a business process. The Reason for its creation was because of the need of a new and improved medium bomber. This bomber went on to be a major role in The Doolittle Raid. The company known as North American Aviation to date has created nearly 10,000 B 25 Mitchells. Over the four decades of service the B 25 Mitchell came across many new and improved models such as the B 25A B 25H. • 8. Elements Of Catholicism And Voodoo A religion can be defined as a system of belief that manifest, to some degree, the following eight elements: belief system, community, central myths, ritual, ethics, characteristic emotional experience, material expression, and sacredness. Depending on the religion, some of these elements may carry more weight than others. I will look at Catholicism and Voodoo and the role some of these elements play within these systems of belief. Catholicism is a monotheistic religion believing that God is the Creator of all that is. We must love and serve God in our daily life, through prayer and good works, in order to achieve salvation. The element of central myths plays a large role within the Catholic faith, as the Bible is the core of Catholic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Eucharist is when we receive the body and blood of Christ through the symbols of bread and wine. It further extends the initiation that took place at baptism to enter fully into the heart of Christian faith through participation in the Eucharist (catholic.org,2017). Confirmation is the final step of initiation. It is receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit that unites us more firmly with Christ and strengthens our bond with the Church. The remaining four Sacraments guide us through the rest of our life. The Sacrament of Penance is received regularly to confess our sins and seek forgiveness so that we may remain in God s grace. The Sacrament of Marriage takes place when two people commit to spend the rest of their life together, anointing of the sick is when a priest anoints a sick person with oil and offers prayers, and Holy Orders is the sacrament that takes place with the ordination of a bishop, priest, or deacon into ministry (Molloy, M., 2010). Voodoo is also a monotheistic religion that combines Catholic and African beliefs and is often surrounded by many misconceptions. Voodoo has been portrayed by the media as a form of devil worship and curses, with Voodoo dolls being used to inflict pain on one s enemies (ancient origins.net). Nevertheless, it is generally accepted that it is rooted in the reality of the discriminatory social system in America with its historic origins in the institution of slavery. One can discern that this slavery system imposes a double burden on the Negro through severe social and economic inequalities and through the heavy psychological consequences suffered by the Negro who is forced to play an inferior role, 1 the latter relates to the low self estimate, feeling of helplessness and basic identity conflict. A great votary of black art, Hughes inaugurated a distinct movement of negritude which may be regarded as the soul of Harlem. Rising from his consciousness of the colour of his skin and passing through various stages of identification with people and territory of Africa and finally grounding it in the American Past, negritude in the poetry of Hughes evolves into a definite and enduring concept expressive of definite vision.6 But he doesn t suffer from what W.E.B. • 10. A Critique of Today s Process of Ijtihad A Critique of Today s Process of Ijtihad Recent achievements in Islamic banking do not indicate an advance in the jurists interpretation of riba. Writings on riba have been extensively concerned with the expositions of riba, but with disquisitions about riba. Thought about riba, and any other Qur anic penetrative codes, must be a story of movements in outlook and ever changing ideas, and developments taking place in contemporary social sciences. Its province is destined by God, may he be exalted, in a way to be determined and re determined in the course of time by drawing insights from different branches of human science. The subject of riba, and other divine codes in Qur an regarding dealings and transactions is such that no cohesive delineation of the scope can be regarded as final. Some of needless difficulties that have arisen in a proper interpretation of riba are of linguistic origin. The jurist s business is with words. Words are not only tools of thought, but also control it. Accordingly, to think profitably about riba will be assisted by a sharpened awareness of possibilities of language, not only to lead thought but also to mislead it. This paves the ground on which the Islamic jurists adherence to their predecessors grasp of riba is questioned. This should not be deemed a denial of the rich legacy handed down from the predecessors. A modern society cannot but build upon the foundations laid in the past. A textbook definition of a drought is a prolonged period of abnormally low rainfall which results in a shortage of water, which is normal considering California has been given the title in its recent years the term drought since 2012. With the drought targeting the agricultural community in California, many farmers are starting to research more ways on how to become drought efficient. The two common methods of farming are organic and conventional. Different farming methods have their own way on affecting the public health and the environment through herbicides and pesticides. Some of the benefits of organic technologies are higher soil organic matter and nitrogen, lower fossil energy inputs, and conservation of soil moisture and water resources (Pimentel and Hepperly 2008). In fact, differences between Modernization theory and Dependency theory result from the origin of Dependency theory which, as it has been already mentioned above, was developed in response to Modernization theory. To put it more precisely, Modernization theory stands on the ground that western countries are well developed and western way of development is viewed as the most successful and perspective while there is practically no other alternatives to this way of the development. This is why the supporters of this theory insist on the necessity to develop the cooperation between developed and developing countries in order to make the latter closer to the former. Employees Are The Most Important Factor Of Production Employees are indeed a crucial part of any organization and are often referred to by economists as the most important factor of production. For many years, employers have been faced with the issue of retention and are fairly cautious when it comes to managing and retaining their workforce. Included in this is having the best possible employees or talent on your team working efficiently to ensure the business is stable and successful. As it is said an organization can only be as successful as the people working with them . Ensuring you have the proper team is crucial but if there is any downfall to an individual employee this can slow production or lower morale amongst your employees. There are three different broad groups employees can be categorized within depending on their contribution within the organization. These three broad groups are the engaged employees, the non engaged employees, and also the actively disengaged employees. Engaged employees are the desirables for any organization as these employees are self motivated and want better for the organization and take pride and passion into their work. They often put their best foot forward and want to move the organization in the right direction. Non engaged employees are those employees who are disconnected from their employers who tend to just do the bare minimum and have minimal pride in their work. These can be identified as those employees who simply show up to get a check and leave. The final group, actively ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The minimum capital adequacy ratio that is required to be maintained by a bank is 8% (without the capital conservation buffer), which must reach 10,5% of the total assets. It, along with a host of other indicators such as declines in reference questions and shifts from print to e resources, signals that for academic libraries a let s just keep doing business as usual mentality is a sure path to obsolescence. (Bell via Tumbleson, p. 974) The Issue: The Association of College and Research Libraries guidelines for the provision of library services to distance learners states that services must be equivalent to those provided for students and faculty in traditional campus settings (ACRL, 2008). With the demographics of students changing to include increasing amounts of online and distance learners, as well as a more diversified range of ages of students, no one way of instruction or library interaction is going to assuage every user s expectations within this diverse group. This shift creates the need to re examine the core services offered by academic libraries such as information literacy, effective searching strategies and reference help. Libraries can no longer rely on just their in person reference and research services. Seal (2008) best defines this shift from reference and instruction to learning and engagement (p. 257). In 1888, an appeals court judge, Lord Esther, ruled that neither by Common Law nor by the Constitution of this country from the beginning of the Common Law until now can a woman be entitled to exercise any public function. (Aked) This is notable because, just as with the Reform Act of 1832, the ruling was a detriment to women, as women were already exercising public functions , such as overseers, way wardens, church wardens and members of school boards. This ruling was the first of several rulings and legislations that removed rights and governmental access from women. These actions of the British Parliament led to the creation of several suffrage movement organizations in England, such as the Co operative Society and The Labor Party, each with almost two and a half million members, as well as several smaller groups, such as The Women s Liberal Association, The British Women s Temperance Association, The Women s Textile Union, The Women s Labor League, The National Union of Women s Suffrage Societies, The Women s Social and Political Union, and The Men s League for Woman Suffrage, as well as many others. The Irish had the motivation to move when, in the mid 1840s, a potato blight, caused the famine. They thrived for more freedom from government control and left Germany to find that. Most of the German immigrants came to mid western states and became farmers. Those who were not hired as farmers were anything from tailors to servants to clerks to food merchant at Urban Centers. In my opinion, our country is populated enough and we do not need people from other countries joining in now. There is a reason that Germans are called Germans, and that Irish are called Irish. It is because of the fact that being a German is because you are from Germany and same with any other country. As long as we are staying in our country, why must others leave theirs? We are called Americans because we are from America and everyone else gets their title because of their nationality, place of birth, or simply where the family originated. This could also cause problems for our country with a largely increasing population. If you think about it, you realize that if our country doesn t change with the new population, folks may have to either build new homes or move in with residents of the area. People have different ideas but this can seriously cause major issues for our country. I am not sure that the United States would even be considered as our country ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. The Chemical Ingredient Of Acetylsalicylic Acid Essay Acetylsalicylic acid is the active pharmaceutical ingredient that is found in aspirin and is used to treat inflammation, pain and fever. It is created by an esterification reaction of salicylic acid with acetic anhydride in the presence of an acid catalyst. At the end of the reaction, a product and unreacted salicylic acid and acid catalyst was created. The product contains impurities, such as acetic anhydride and salicylic acid, which needs to be removed. Crystallization, a technique used to purify substances, produces crystals and the impurities get filtered under the vacuum. Adding water after the crystals are made but before the crystals are vacuumed helps to purify the crystals and get rid of some impurities. Melting the crystals can determine the purity of the product that was made. When performing the experiment, salicylic acid will be in a flask and in a water bath. It is important that it sits in the water bath for at least eight minutes but no more than ten minutes. If it is in the water bath for more than ten minutes, the salicylic acid could decompose. The purpose of this experiment was to determine the presence of salicylic acid and starch in acetylsalicylic acid. The presence of salicylic acid can be determined by performing a ferric chloride test. The presence of starch can be determined by performing an iodine test. In order to find the percent yield, the following formula was used: Percent yield= (Mass of product obtained experimentally)/(mass of product ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
