The Cold War Was Not A Normal Conflict
The Cold War was not a normal conflict. The US and the USSR never fought. However, they often
supported different warring sides. Nevertheless, we can say that the Cold War is a political, military
and media conflict, which has a large effect over the lives of thousands of innocent civilians. The Cold
War is a battle between totalitarianism and democracy, battle for a new world turn between two
opposing systems. This essay will look at three different theories that explain why the Cold War came
to an end. First will be discussed the Revisionist and Gorbachev leadership theories. Second, this
paper will look at the Triumphalist theory by the Realist school of historians who believe that Ronald
Reagan s foreign policies during the Cold War ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And this thesis can be supported even in 1976 when the Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev states that We
Communists have to string along with the capitalists for a while. We need their agriculture and their
technology. Revisionist theories give big credit to Gorbachev, the leader of the Soviet Union, for
ending the Cold War, or in other peacefully ending the Cold War with foreign relationships. When
Gorbachev came into power, unlike other leaders before him, he proclaimed a new way of thinking
based on glasnost (openness) and perestroika (restricting). This meant greater political freedoms and
less Soviet interception in the press and society as a whole. It also meant changes in the economy such
as allowing for a greater market and allowing greater foreign interactions . Under Gorbachev the
Soviets signed the INF treaty, SALT, and declared the goal to eliminate all nuclear weapons by 2000.
Gorbachev withdrew it forces from Afghanistan, and did not intervene in any East European countries.
Gorbachev pushed to end of the Cold War by not acting in any threatening manner that would have
stress the crisis and opened up to good international relationships. Revisionist also give credit to the
peace movements that the Americans and Europeans by constraining Reagan s hard line policies. The

Emily Dickinson s Feelings About Death Revealed in Her...
Emily Dickinson s Feelings About Death Revealed in Her Poem, Because I could not stop for Death
Emily Dickinson grew up in New England in the late 1800s. The nineteenth century was a difficult
time period for the people of America. There was an abundance of war, epidemic, and death. Because
her house was located beside a graveyard, Dickinson saw many of the elaborate funeral processions as
they passed (Murray). Because of these experiences, death became very real to her, and it made a large
impression on her life. Conrad Aikin, one of the many critics of Dickinson s work, believes that:
Death and the problem of life after death obsessed her (15). She had a very peculiar idea about eternity
that was unlike any of the traditional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Personification is a type of figurative language one uses to give abstract ideas human like
characteristics. Dickinson uses personification in this poem because it allows the reader to understand
death in a more intimate way. Death became so real to her and to her contemporaries because of the
time in which she lived. Through her life experiences, the poet became intimate with death. Because
of all the disease and epidemics in her lifetime, many of her loved ones passed away. These deaths
were very intense breaks in her life (Murray). Some critics suggest that the death of her cousin was the
inspiration for this poem (Semansky). In any event, death had a large impact on Dickinson s life. This
impact explains why she writes so descriptively about it. In this poem, death is personified as a
gentleman caller taking the lady out for a carriage ride. This personification gives the reader a better
image of the writer s idea of the coming of death.
Dickinson gives Death many characteristics that help to shape our image of him. The line He kindly
stopped for me in the first stanza, immediately gives a male gender (2). This male image gives the
reader the traditional idea of the gentleman caller. This line also reveals a kind quality of death. The
kind quality is important throughout this poem because it allows the speaker to

`` The Merchant Of Venice `` By William Shakespeare
Risk is a situation that involves the possibility of exposure to dangers. Risks exist everywhere, even
the most minute of actions can place someone in jeopardy. It is an inescapable labyrinth that plagues
the lives of all ever since humanity s first existence. Yet it,s double edged sword like characteristics of
also providing opportunities and gains keeps many enthralled in it. In William Shakespeare s The
Merchant of Venice, Antonio, a protagonist, gives himself over to a life threatening contract with the
villain, Shylock the Jew, in order to provide the means for one of Antonio s friend the opportunity to
woo a lady. Over the course of the play, various risky opportunities and events also expose other
relationships as means of satisfying their wants, although not all their outcomes are favourable. Risk is
the root cause of rewards and punishments in The Merchant of Venice. This is seen between the play s
rivals, such as Antonio and Shylock. Also is seen between lovers, such as Bassanio and Portia. It is
seen again between fathers and children, such as Shylock and Jessica.
The outcomes of the rivals plot, namely the struggles between Antonio and Shylock, were greatly
influenced by the partaking of risks. One of the risks taken by the main pair of rivals is Shylock
employing a malevolent bond purposed with ending the life of Antonio. Shylock demands that he will
have [his] bond; speak not against [his] bond:/ [he has] sworn an oath that [he] will have [his] bond.

Blessed Are The Merciful, For They Shall Receive Mercy
Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. Introduction: You may be familiar with the
story of Corrie Ten Boom who was sent to a concentration camp along with her father and sister for
hiding Jews. Her father and sister died in the camps, but Corrie Ten Boom was released due to a
clerical error. After the war she spent time going to churches to speak about God s forgiveness. It is
amazing because she witnessed women in the concentration camps brutally tortured and killed. But
she believed that her God was a God of mercy, grace, and forgiveness. After the war, she returned to
Germany to speak and write about the mercy, grace, and forgiveness of God. She taught that lack of
mercy and forgiveness was a sin against God because we have no reason not to forgive anyone since
Christ is the one who has forgiven us of our sin. How could we hold it back from anyone else? After
the war she returned to Germany and this is what she wrote in her book, The Hiding Place, speaking
about one of the most difficult times she was faced with granting forgiveness. She was asked to go and
speak to a church on forgiveness. She spent her time talking about how God forgives and that was a
message the Germans needed to hear as the war had just ended. She said when God forgives us it is as
if our sins were cast into the deepest part of the ocean, gone forever. After she was done speaking, one
of the guards, who she describes as one of the most wicked and cruel guards in the

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Dissociative Disorder Essay
Psychogenic amnesia, also known as dissociative amnesia, is a type of memory disorder differentiated
by abrupt retrograde memory loss that can last as short as a few hours to as long as years. Individuals
with this disorder block out specific information generally related to a traumatic or stressful event,
which in turn makes him or her unable to remember any relevant information. It is not to be confused
with general amnesia. The memories of the event are in the brain but the person is unable to access
them unless triggered by something. Causes This form of dissociative disorder is often related to times
of overwhelming stress, for example severe abuse, traumatic accidents/disaster or war. The complexity
of the condition is not fully understood, but many believe there is a genetic link due to the high
frequency of family members sharing episodes of the condition. Risk Factors More common in
women. Stressful life events or trauma. Family history. Genetics. Long term abuse. Signs Symptoms [

factors . As well as knowing what a living thing is and what the characteristics are to make a living
thing up . In addition to that you must also understand what a molecule is and how there are different

dead thing is that a non living was never alive , A dead thing was alive at one point . Non living
factors can affect living factors in a big way. Some non living factors are temperature , soil , water , air
and minerals . An example of a nonliving factor affecting a living factor would be temperature . The

Mandatory Compulsory Conscription For Their Citizens
War has always been a topic that will always be associated with history books. Many great empires
have fallen due to conflicts amongst its citizens. There are several countries that are still experiencing
effects of war. A lot of countries have enacted mandatory military conscription for their citizens. A
Mandatory Military Conscription also known as a mandatory military obligation, the compulsory
enlistment of people in a national service, most often a military service.( Webster 2011) This would
benefit not only the country but also the citizens that must participate in it. America has had an active
military for more than over 200 years. This country currently has over 1million active duty personal

Although the titles are similar, each section has a specific role. For instance, the combat service
support is defined as the essential capabilities, functions, activities, and tasks necessary to sustain all
elements of operating forces in theater at all levels of war. (Headquarters, Department of the Army,
2008)The Army has multiple occupational specialties that require skill. A great example is a
Laboratory Technician, however, they are still considered a Soldier they also have a primary mission
of testing fluids that come into their lab. This specialty becomes critical when a patient comes in for a
problem that is unknown to the Doctor s eye. This job can also be found out in the civilian sector.
Many hospitals are always acquiring well qualified employees that have some experience.
Another pro to joining the military is the educational support one can receive. The military offers what
is known as the Montgomery GI bill and Post 9/11 Montgomery GI bill. They were enacted to assist
Military personnel with receiving post secondary education. The military also has other educational
benefits that are even beneficial to people who are from another country. The English as a Second

What Are The Characteristics And Dynamics Of Liberalism...
Within the field of international relations theory, neoliberalism and liberal theory have developed out
of the notion of states cooperating within the international system. As states realized that through
cooperation additional benefits can be gained in an anarchic world, institutions whose goal was to
create cooperation among self interested states took shape. As states initiated this type of
multilateralism for mutual gain within the international system, scholars and theorist such as Stein,
Keohane, Oye, and Moravcsik among others conceptualized Neoliberal and Liberal theories and the
dynamics of the states and the system. There are key characteristics which differentiate these two
theories from others in international relations theory. Moreover, these theories analyze why and how
states, through working together were able to serve their own interests and attempt to discern the
routes which states take towards cooperation which best suit their interest. This paper will attempt to
explain the characteristics and dynamics of Liberalism and Neoliberalist theories, as well as display its
challenges and limitations.
Main tenets and actors of Liberal theory
Liberalism sees the state as a rational actor however, see the influences from within the state as the
main actor facilitating international relations. Additionally, this theory sees the states main interest are

Champlin s Nero
Kyle Bourassa
HIST 100 07
11/20/15
Champlin, Edward. Nero. Cambridge, Mass.: Belknap Press of Harvard University Press, 2003.
Edward Champlin s Nero, focuses on a much narrower scale than a historically oriented work. His
novel is neither a retelling of events, as with most history books, nor a biography of Nero himself.
Champlin takes the position of a third person narrator, telling the story of Nero s life. He centers on
how Nero presented himself to the public, as well as why and how he was so memorable a figure.
Champlin argues that Nero was not an especially talented ruler, or a good person even, but that he was
effective in his presentation to the Roman people, which is why he was able to stay in power for a
number of years.
In the first chapter, Champlin narrates the weeks before Nero s death. Then he discusses what
happened after he died, what the Roman people did, and the many theories there are about exactly
what happened. The narrative of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Champlin reviews and argues on Nero s explanation of why he killed his mother, his obsession with
Apollo, the great fire of Rome in 64 A.D. and why Nero responded the way he did, as well as his other
notorious acts.
People will have a hard time believing some of Champlin s claims of Nero because of the many
hundreds of years of bias against him. Champlin makes some good, sensible arguments, but also
makes many more that some just won t believe at first, such as when he argues about the good things
Nero did. Most people would remember Nero as a raving madman who killed for pleasure and ruled
so terribly that his own subjects eventually killed him. While it is revealed in the first chapter that
Nero commits suicide, the Roman people would have killed him if he didn t kill himself

In The Scarecrow and the Tin Woodman , Frank Baum creates conflict with imagery and
characterization, achieving this effect with diction, syntax, imagery, and tone. Baum s word choice in
the short story plays a large role in establishing and building the main conflict of the piece. His diction
is kept simple, but the choices he made are ultimately effective in creating the tone, which is another
element that helps create the conflict. In the first paragraph, bent on mischief and captive effectively

to creating imagery; words such as chattering , suspended , and dangled all help to paint a picture in

The Struggle Between Dido And Conflicts In The Aeneid By...
Conflicts abound throughout Virgil s epic twelve book poem and they are part and parcel of a story
that involves much more than the tragic, yet romantic interlude between Aeneas and Dido. The story is
about death and rebirth, ...finding the origins of Rome in the destruction of Troy (Puchner, 978) and
the painful struggle within that rebirth which gives so much more meaning to the life that comes from
it. Wars and a man I sing yet many blows he took on land and seas from the gods above and many
losses he bore (Virgil, The Aeneid, 981)
Virgil seeks to explore beyond mere conflicts that are between two people, such as Aeneas and Dido,
and moreover sets out to amplify upon events surrounding the imbroglio that envelops an individual.
Aeneas must deal with affairs of the heart juxtaposed against his unswerving sense of duty which
binds him to serve the will of the gods above all and at any cost. From the onset of the story, Aeneas is

The Muslim leaders wanted to form a permanent political forum. The anti Muslim activities of
Congress too gave emphasis to the need of a political platform for the Muslims from where Muslims
could protect their interests. Consultations were held between the Muslim leaders of Shimla

a political association.
The reasons for the establishment of Muslim league are as follows:
1. INDIFFERENT ATTITUDE OF THE CONGRESS TOWARDS MUSLIMS:
All India National Congress was dominantly Hindu body from scratch. Their interests were always
opposite to the interests of the Indian Muslims. By 1906, Muslim leaders were influenced that they

Butcher of the Balkans Imagine being in a place where your ethnicity could get you murdered. Not
only murdered, but murdered in the most brutal, tortuous, and agonizing way. If you were not

perhaps toward your children or wife. Your ethnicity is being pushed out from their homes all over the
country and forced to live in horrid conditions. Imagine, all of your friends, family, and acquaintances
of that same ethnicity living in constant fear that today could be their last day. What do you do? Run,

powerful than your people, and the human instinct for survival is very strong, so it is logical to forgo

There are many other instances of ethnic cleansing throughout history, however, even with the idea
being essentially as old as time, the term, ethnic cleansing, according to Gerard Toal and Carl

diplomat in an April 15, 1992 article in The New York Times (18). The term was being used to
describe the actions of Slobodan Milošević between 1987 and 1997. The horrible crimes Milošević

Butcher of the Balkans (Cohen 22). Milošević s reign of terror may be broken down into three main

Transition from Socialism to Capitalism in Bosnia
CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION Capitalism and socialism, as two major economic systems, have
shaped the past century to a great extent. After many wars and political games, it seems that the battle
between the two systems has come to an end. Capitalism proved to be the stronger system and, as a
result, globalization became the most descriptive attribute of the world economy in the current
century. Most of the socialist countries decided, or were forced, to start a painful process of transition,
which would enable them to become capitalist countries in the future. The countries in transition have
had to deal with numerous problems such as political and economic pressure from other countries,
corruption at all levels of political and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The last part investigates the problem of corruption and other political factors that are a current
impediment to transition. At the end, subjective conclusions will be made about whether transition
itself is worthwhile. Each reader is welcome to draw his or her own conclusions. Whether transition is
worthwhile is a question that will be approached from the people s point of view and it will rely on
comparison between Bosnia s economic performance and the living standard in the country before and
during transition. It will also consider future estimates. Political events that affected the process of
transition will be taken into consideration because of their enormous relevance. Hopefully, the
conclusions will be unbiased and provide important considerations relevant to Bosnia s future.
CHAPTER 2 POLITICAL BACKGROUND Bosnia before World War I Islamization The focus of
this thesis is the transition of Bosnia from socialist to capitalist economy, but in order to fully
understand it, one must be familiar with some of the historical events particular to Bosnia. The single
most important historical trend is certainly the Islamization of Bosnia. Although the Serbian people
consider the Battle of Kosovo in 1389 to be the beginning of this process, only decades and centuries
to come marked a significant increase in the number of Muslims in Bosnia. The primary source of

and and where the carpet can be seen, it is covered with stains of soda, dirt, and things I don t want to

dogs. As you can imagine, it took some time to feel comfortable. I was pretty skittish, but soon enough
he became my human and he called me his buddy. It took even longer for me to be okay with the other
dogs, but they became my best friends! We played together, ate together, laid around together, we did
everything together. Even when Ted was gone, I was happy. Ted taught me to love car rides. A car is
what Ted called these big, metal machines on wheels that take you places really fast. Cars are amazing
to ride in, and there are so many smells to explore! I was with Ted for two years, but then he started to
get sluggish. He would make weird whistling noises cough, and he held his chest a lot. One day, these
people came in and took him. One of Ted s friends came by once in awhile in the following few days,
but I never saw Ted again. I heard some of his friends say it was emphysema, whatever that means.
My friends were taken by people I didn t know, and I was again alone, sad, and afraid. Finally, an
event occurred that changed my life forever. A man named Robert came to take me away. I admit, I
was horrified at first. That man walked in the door

needs replacement, due to durability/mechanical flaws like fracture, loss of bonding and leakage, is
less as compared to the other filling material. Arvind Shenoy points out that the reason for great
functioning and survival of dental amalgam restorations is the anti corrosive effects of the zinc and
copper content of the alloy (100). Owing to the high endurance property and long life of dental
amalgam, it can be used for a wide range of restorations. It is suitable for all kinds of posterior

Consequences Of Utilitarianism
Utilitarianism is a theory in normative ethics holding that the proper course of action is the one that
maximizes overall happiness. It is now generally taken to be a form of consequentialism, According to
utilitarianism the moral worth of an action is determined only by its resulting outcome although there
is debate over how much consideration should be given to actual consequences, foreseen
consequences and intended consequences. Utilitarianism has often been considered the natural ethic of
a democracy operating by simple majority without protection of individual rights. In this essay, I will
argue that utilitarianism is incorrect because of the objection that it does not provide adequate
protection for individual rights, and that not everything ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A utilitarian would argue that just because rights are not directly considered in relation to the
consequences of an action, they do in fact have some impact on the chosen action. With majority of
the population getting happiness out of doing the right thing, rights are often protected through
Utilitarianism. For the small minority of people that don t experience unhappiness from disregarding
human rights, the existence of the police force ensures human right are protected from these members
of society. With human rights being protected under law, people rights will be upheld under
Utilitarianism because there will always be a larger amount of disutility from violating the law than
from the personal gains of a human right offender. For example the CEO and CFO of Tyco a New
Jersey based company stole $150 million and inflated Tyco incomes by $500 million, in doing so they
violated the rights of investors. After the police discovered this fraud, the justice system penalized
both, with a sentence of 8 25 years in prison with the addition of $2.92 billion paid to Tyco Investors.
Under Utilitarianism this case wouldn t occur because the benefits of stealing this money would never
outweigh the consequences that result from being caught for defrauding investors. Therefore even
though rights are not considered in

A Rhetorical Analysis Of The Python Challenge By Dave Barry
Dave Barry is the writer of the article about the Python Challenge encouraging people to go out and
kill pythons as competition. Throughout the article he uses many rhetorical strategies all the while,
keeping a sarcastic and sardonic tone. The author begins his article with a rhetorical question with the
intent to pull the reader s attention towards his topic. The question he asks Would you like to make
some extra money, and at the same time run the risk of being eaten... draws the reader s attention out
and makes them want to continue reading to find out what it is they could do to get money but run the
risk of being eaten. The tone of Dave Barry s article in the first three paragraphs would be mostly

to find out more about the challenge. The purpose of mentioning the quote from the commission, in
paragraph seven, Make sure your technique results in immediate loss of consciousness and destruction
of the Burmese python s brain. is to substantiate that the challenge is supported by an actual board of
important people which will encourage people to participate in the challenge while he is actually
making fun of the whole situation because they are actually inhumane and cruel. Dave Barry s use of
diction is comical, sarcastic, and full of wit. He explains the challenge in a way that he is also
wronging their cruel punishment in a comical way for the reader to enjoy instead of reading a sad
article they read a funny article but leave with just as much information about killing the python as

Dbq Jewish Immigration
From 1880 1924, in order to escape persecution from Alexander the II s reign and anti Semitism,
Russian Jews emigrated to America to escape a wave of religious persecution, a chance at a new life

polysaccharide solution, test tube #3, reacted which was expected. When performing the Benedict s

tube #1, the monosaccharide solution, and test tube #4, the unknown solution, changed color from
blue to a yellow orange when heated. Since the unknown solution reacted during the Benedict s Test,

Porter s five forces and extended eight forces analysis(industry profitability analysis)
Power of buyers : low but increasing
Buyers can be categorized as follows: banks, retailers, restaurants, and leisure facilities
Shopping centre industry is in oligoploly. Most of the buyers such as retailers (tenants) are
individually small and have no strong bargaining power over shopping centre owners.
There are a large number of retailers and service providers in the market. As demand for space is high,
shopping centres attract them to join in and pay more rent for the higher consumer traffic.
However, the power of buyers has been increasing as retailers can now choose locations outside of
S/Cs to save high rents, or open their own online shops. This will in turn exert pressure on S/C to
reduce lease terms and cost
Available margins will shift back to manufacturers (brands) which used to go to retailors
Threat of new entrants: low to medium
High entry barrier: shopping centers are purpose built complexes which require large capital
investment
Industry not as attractive as before for new entrants due to impact of online shopping
There is not much legally restriction for entry.
Power of suppliers: Low
Shopping centre industry s main supplier are utility providers, construction contractors, cleaning
security companies.
No switching cost as there are many suppliers in the market.

How Does Washington Irving Use Symbols In The Legend Of...
Washington Irving uses symbolism in his short story, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. The Legend of
Sleepy Hollow takes place in a town called Sleepy Hollow which is near Tarrytown, New York. The
two main characters Ichabod Crane and Brom Bones have a dispute over a women named Katrina.
The story may or may not have come from the German tales of the headless horseman that have
influenced the Dutch tales. Brom Bones is one of the main characters who symbolizes country versus
rural and hero vs villain. He is a country Bumpkin (Smith). Fun, loving, clever, and skillful on a horse
(Werlock). An athletic, mischievous, and determined young suitor (D Ammassa). Called Brom bones
because of his great physical strength (Werlock). The hero of the country round. With more mischief
than ill will in his composition (Milne). Serves as a means to achieve the goal of the female
community (Milne). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

High School Sports Module Analysis
Do you ever, as an athlete, parent, or fan of Iowa high school sports, want to watch the state high
school sporting events? Because it is well known that the northwest corner of Iowa tends to field the
better sports teams and athletes of the state, typically there is usually quite a few teams representing
the area during the state tournament. When a local team or athlete makes it to state, a group of people
will either go and watch in person, or try to see if the event is being broadcasted on television. Often
the people that can t make the trip to watch in person, like local people, family members, or even high
school athletes themselves, will check if it is on television (Byers 1). Starting during the 2016 2017
academic year, the Iowa ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That s a question I m sure many people had over the football, wrestling, and basketball state
tournament championships. I ll go into more detail about the CSN Chicago deal with the help of my
interview with Scott Byers. In order to watch the channel CSN Chicago, you need to either live in the
area that your local cable company offers it, or have Dish Network or DirecTV. Like I said earlier,
about 90% of the area that does offer the channel is in the eastern part of Iowa. So if you live on the
western side, and don t have either Dish Network or DirecTV, you are basically out of luck. The local
cable companies could get CSN Chicago into their package but with Northwest Iowa so far away from
Chicago, almost none in this area do. It makes sense not to get the channel only if you want it to watch
IHSAA state events. Scott Byers asked the head of the local cable company in Sioux Center about it
and he said picking up CSN Chicago for three years would cost his company well over a million
dollars. Instead of people on the Eastern side of Iowa, the Northwest Iowa people get to watch Fox
Sports North which shows the Minnesota teams like the Twins and Timberwolves. Next, people might
wonder if this really has to go on for the full three years. Well, I found that answer too in my
interview. Scott said, Most contracts can be broken, but it becomes a legal matter at that point and will
cost whatever the lawyers come up with in negotiations. Generally,

Essay about Ronald Reagan
Ronald Reagan was one of the most influential presidents in American history; yet he is one of the
least talked about in present day history books. President Reagan was not an Ivy League rich kid or
raised in a politically motivated family. He was a midwestern boy who played football and worked his
way through college. President Reagan had visions for the future of this country. Reagan realized he
wanted to lead the country during his time working in California, in the Screen Actor s Guild. He was
bothered by the spread of communism in Hollywood. He took over the Presidency in 1980 after four
years of the most awful leadership this country has ever had. Just as he swore in his campaign, he
lowered taxes, got control of oil prices and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alternative proposals were defeated in both the House and the Senate. Many people in Washington,
liberal and conservative realized they were not playing with the do nothing idiot they had
preconceived. In author Ronnie Dugger s book, critical of Reagan, it was said, quot;no ordinary
person could have achieved what Reagan has quot;. Reagan s school of thought was to combine two
basic theories, the monetarist and supply side. Monetarists believe in taking money out of the
economy and making it worth more, where supply side is to lower taxes and free up more buying
power. In 1981 taxes would be reduced twenty five percent, which in turn freed up buying power.
Reagan s belief that higher tax forces people invest money in tax shelters instead of the economy was
the backbone of his campaign. This was later called quot;Reaganomics quot;. This concept of buying
power in the 1980s has left historians to say it was a time of greed and arrogance. It was quot;a golden
age for financial wheeling and dealing, quot;(Krugman 23). The guilty feeling left looks at the decade
as a time of the rich get richer and wealth run ramped as journalist Haynes Johnson said
quot;Acquisition and flaunting of wealth been celebrated so publicly by so many quot;. (Johnson 194)
Many of the intellect in Washington and every university in the country look back and criticize the

Sympathy In Ender s Game By Orson Scott Card
In many novels there are characters that manipulate other characters into doing something they will
regret which creates sympathy for the reader. One of these novels is Ender s Game by Orson Scott
Card as explained in the article The Victim Hero by Alice Miller. In the article, Alice Miller
successfully proves that Card creates a deserving sympathy for Ender. One of the many ways Card is
able to create sympathy for Ender is through the pain and torment Ender goes through. One example is
from the article, Ender s older brother Peter torments Ender out of all proportion to any rational
motivation, and his abuse goes completely unnoticed and unchecked by their parents. (Miller, 4) In the
quote we see that Card created Peter so the reader can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One example how sympathy is created from manipulation is in the quote, After Ender is manipulated
into entering Battle School, (he s brought there by lies serving him from Valentine, his only protector)
his abuse continues. (Miller, 9) Ender is thrown one Peter s torment into Battle School s torment
though Graff s manipulation of him. This makes the reader continue to be sympathetic to Ender as he
was played by Graff. Another quote that shows the fear Ender faces is in the quote, It was when he
decided to give up the enterprise that he won the ultimate victory; and then he became an almost tragic
figure when it became clear that his victory made him obsolete. (Miller, 1) As the quote explains after
defeating the buggers Ender is forced to fear the rest of his life as he wasn t taught anything. This
makes the reader feel sympathetic to Ender and his own future as he knows nothing else except war.
Card uses manipulation and fear to continue making the reader feel the sympathy Ender deserves as
shown in Miller s article. Ender is a character that deserves the sympathy readers have for him. Ender
is put through huge amounts of pain, torment, fear, manipulation, and even more as a child. Miller is
able to show how Card is able to use all of this in order to create sympathy for Ender and in the end
makes the reader feel sorry for

Sport Psychology Consultant Philosophy
The philosophy that a sport psychology consultant adopts breathes life into their work. It puts flesh on
bone and gives the knowledge base that the consultant has already acquired a thumping heart and a

importantly, the philosophy that a consultant adopts makes their work important to them and to their
clients while giving them the opportunity to develop self confidence. As I consider what I want my

Assessments are valuable because not only do they give the consultant a starting point in their

are as the sessions progress. As McCann, Jowdy, and Van Raalte (2002) also point out, it is important
that you have in writing you has access to the assessments and who can view them to keep any
potential confidentiality issues at bay. Confidentiality is also something that will need to be addressed
if a coach is hiring me for his client or a parent his hiring me for their young athlete. One thing that
Dr. Carr, an alumnus of the program, taught me in an interview I did with him for our introduction to
counseling class last year is to always have confidentiality outlined in your contract. For example, Dr.
Carr says that when the front office or the coach keeps consistently asking what is going on in
sessions even though he has explained confidentiality issues, he can default to his own contract and
explain that he can be fired and he is not willing to risk that. He also says that if the athlete wishes to
share with the coach, what the athlete is willing to share, when, and to whom is outlined in a written
consent. In addition, Dr. Carr says he also makes it a point to receive verbal consent as well. It will
also need to be made known to the athlete

Determination of Specific Heat
Determination of specific heat
Capacity of a solid by electrical method
Introduction
Thermal conductivity heat is transferred as a consequence of temperature difference between 2 bodies,
heat energy passes form a hotter to the colder body. Specific heat capacity is the amount of heat
energy required in joules to raise 1kg of a substance by 1 degree Celsius, different substances absorb
heat energy at different rates not all substances require the same amount of heat energy to increase the
internal temperature of a substance this depends on the mass and the material it s self. To demonstrate
specific heat capacity of a solid an experiment was carried out using 1kg aluminium mass and 1kg
copper mass heat was conducted to the masses by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reason for this is that copper s molecules are more densely packed and so it is a good conductor of
heat, and when 1 kg of each substance are compared visually it is easily seen that 1kg of copper mass
is far smaller than 1kg of aluminium mass. Aluminium is more efficient at radiating or dispersing heat
as it is less dense which also makes it a lighter material.
Overall this experiment has successfully reached its objectives however some errors have occurred as
shown in the experimental errors where the experimental values do not match the actual values of the
materials this could be caused by heat loss through the material which could be reduced with better
insulation of the material. Further error could have been avoided in the first experiment by letting the
heating element reach its maximum output before inserting it into the aluminium block as the warm up
time is not taken into consideration in the first experiment; this was not a factor in the second
experiment as the heating element was immediately placed into the copper block and was at its
maximum

  • 2. The Cold War Was Not A Normal Conflict The Cold War was not a normal conflict. The US and the USSR never fought. However, they often supported different warring sides. Nevertheless, we can say that the Cold War is a political, military and media conflict, which has a large effect over the lives of thousands of innocent civilians. The Cold War is a battle between totalitarianism and democracy, battle for a new world turn between two opposing systems. This essay will look at three different theories that explain why the Cold War came to an end. First will be discussed the Revisionist and Gorbachev leadership theories. Second, this paper will look at the Triumphalist theory by the Realist school of historians who believe that Ronald Reagan s foreign policies during the Cold War ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And this thesis can be supported even in 1976 when the Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev states that We Communists have to string along with the capitalists for a while. We need their agriculture and their technology. Revisionist theories give big credit to Gorbachev, the leader of the Soviet Union, for ending the Cold War, or in other peacefully ending the Cold War with foreign relationships. When Gorbachev came into power, unlike other leaders before him, he proclaimed a new way of thinking based on glasnost (openness) and perestroika (restricting). This meant greater political freedoms and less Soviet interception in the press and society as a whole. It also meant changes in the economy such as allowing for a greater market and allowing greater foreign interactions . Under Gorbachev the Soviets signed the INF treaty, SALT, and declared the goal to eliminate all nuclear weapons by 2000. Gorbachev withdrew it forces from Afghanistan, and did not intervene in any East European countries. Gorbachev pushed to end of the Cold War by not acting in any threatening manner that would have stress the crisis and opened up to good international relationships. • 3. Emily Dickinson s Feelings About Death Revealed in Her... Emily Dickinson s Feelings About Death Revealed in Her Poem, Because I could not stop for Death Emily Dickinson grew up in New England in the late 1800s. The nineteenth century was a difficult time period for the people of America. There was an abundance of war, epidemic, and death. Because her house was located beside a graveyard, Dickinson saw many of the elaborate funeral processions as they passed (Murray). Because of these experiences, death became very real to her, and it made a large impression on her life. Conrad Aikin, one of the many critics of Dickinson s work, believes that: Death and the problem of life after death obsessed her (15). She had a very peculiar idea about eternity that was unlike any of the traditional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Personification is a type of figurative language one uses to give abstract ideas human like characteristics. Dickinson uses personification in this poem because it allows the reader to understand death in a more intimate way. Death became so real to her and to her contemporaries because of the time in which she lived. Through her life experiences, the poet became intimate with death. Because of all the disease and epidemics in her lifetime, many of her loved ones passed away. These deaths were very intense breaks in her life (Murray). Some critics suggest that the death of her cousin was the inspiration for this poem (Semansky). In any event, death had a large impact on Dickinson s life. This impact explains why she writes so descriptively about it. In this poem, death is personified as a gentleman caller taking the lady out for a carriage ride. This personification gives the reader a better image of the writer s idea of the coming of death. Dickinson gives Death many characteristics that help to shape our image of him. The line He kindly stopped for me in the first stanza, immediately gives a male gender (2). This male image gives the reader the traditional idea of the gentleman caller. This line also reveals a kind quality of death. The kind quality is important throughout this poem because it allows the speaker to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Risks exist everywhere, even the most minute of actions can place someone in jeopardy. It is an inescapable labyrinth that plagues the lives of all ever since humanity s first existence. Yet it,s double edged sword like characteristics of also providing opportunities and gains keeps many enthralled in it. In William Shakespeare s The Merchant of Venice, Antonio, a protagonist, gives himself over to a life threatening contract with the villain, Shylock the Jew, in order to provide the means for one of Antonio s friend the opportunity to woo a lady. Over the course of the play, various risky opportunities and events also expose other relationships as means of satisfying their wants, although not all their outcomes are favourable. Risk is the root cause of rewards and punishments in The Merchant of Venice. This is seen between the play s rivals, such as Antonio and Shylock. Also is seen between lovers, such as Bassanio and Portia. It is seen again between fathers and children, such as Shylock and Jessica. The outcomes of the rivals plot, namely the struggles between Antonio and Shylock, were greatly influenced by the partaking of risks. One of the risks taken by the main pair of rivals is Shylock employing a malevolent bond purposed with ending the life of Antonio. Shylock demands that he will have [his] bond; speak not against [his] bond:/ [he has] sworn an oath that [he] will have [his] bond. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Blessed Are The Merciful, For They Shall Receive Mercy Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. Introduction: You may be familiar with the story of Corrie Ten Boom who was sent to a concentration camp along with her father and sister for hiding Jews. Her father and sister died in the camps, but Corrie Ten Boom was released due to a clerical error. After the war she spent time going to churches to speak about God s forgiveness. It is amazing because she witnessed women in the concentration camps brutally tortured and killed. But she believed that her God was a God of mercy, grace, and forgiveness. After the war, she returned to Germany to speak and write about the mercy, grace, and forgiveness of God. She taught that lack of mercy and forgiveness was a sin against God because we have no reason not to forgive anyone since Christ is the one who has forgiven us of our sin. How could we hold it back from anyone else? After the war she returned to Germany and this is what she wrote in her book, The Hiding Place, speaking about one of the most difficult times she was faced with granting forgiveness. She was asked to go and speak to a church on forgiveness. She spent her time talking about how God forgives and that was a message the Germans needed to hear as the war had just ended. She said when God forgives us it is as if our sins were cast into the deepest part of the ocean, gone forever. After she was done speaking, one of the guards, who she describes as one of the most wicked and cruel guards in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Edward Champlin s Nero, focuses on a much narrower scale than a historically oriented work. His novel is neither a retelling of events, as with most history books, nor a biography of Nero himself. Champlin takes the position of a third person narrator, telling the story of Nero s life. He centers on how Nero presented himself to the public, as well as why and how he was so memorable a figure. Champlin argues that Nero was not an especially talented ruler, or a good person even, but that he was effective in his presentation to the Roman people, which is why he was able to stay in power for a number of years. In the first chapter, Champlin narrates the weeks before Nero s death. Then he discusses what happened after he died, what the Roman people did, and the many theories there are about exactly what happened. The narrative of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Champlin makes some good, sensible arguments, but also makes many more that some just won t believe at first, such as when he argues about the good things Nero did. Most people would remember Nero as a raving madman who killed for pleasure and ruled so terribly that his own subjects eventually killed him. Baum s word choice in the short story plays a large role in establishing and building the main conflict of the piece. His diction is kept simple, but the choices he made are ultimately effective in creating the tone, which is another element that helps create the conflict. In the first paragraph, bent on mischief and captive effectively reveal the crows real intentions, which is what causes the actual problem. Conflicts abound throughout Virgil s epic twelve book poem and they are part and parcel of a story that involves much more than the tragic, yet romantic interlude between Aeneas and Dido. For the small minority of people that don t experience unhappiness from disregarding human rights, the existence of the police force ensures human right are protected from these members of society. After the police discovered this fraud, the justice system penalized both, with a sentence of 8 25 years in prison with the addition of $2.92 billion paid to Tyco Investors. One example is from the article, Ender s older brother Peter torments Ender out of all proportion to any rational motivation, and his abuse goes completely unnoticed and unchecked by their parents. (Miller, 4) In the quote we see that Card created Peter so the reader can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One example how sympathy is created from manipulation is in the quote, After Ender is manipulated into entering Battle School, (he s brought there by lies serving him from Valentine, his only protector) his abuse continues. (Miller, 9) Ender is thrown one Peter s torment into Battle School s torment though Graff s manipulation of him. This makes the reader continue to be sympathetic to Ender as he was played by Graff. Another quote that shows the fear Ender faces is in the quote, It was when he decided to give up the enterprise that he won the ultimate victory; and then he became an almost tragic figure when it became clear that his victory made him obsolete. (Miller, 1) As the quote explains after defeating the buggers Ender is forced to fear the rest of his life as he wasn t taught anything. This makes the reader feel sympathetic to Ender and his own future as he knows nothing else except war. Card uses manipulation and fear to continue making the reader feel the sympathy Ender deserves as shown in Miller s article. Ender is a character that deserves the sympathy readers have for him. Ender is put through huge amounts of pain, torment, fear, manipulation, and even more as a child. Miller is able to show how Card is able to use all of this in order to create sympathy for Ender and in the end makes the reader feel sorry for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Sport Psychology Consultant Philosophy The philosophy that a sport psychology consultant adopts breathes life into their work. It puts flesh on bone and gives the knowledge base that the consultant has already acquired a thumping heart and a living soul, providing significance and application to the knowledge acquired in their training. Most importantly, the philosophy that a consultant adopts makes their work important to them and to their clients while giving them the opportunity to develop self confidence. As I consider what I want my consulting philosophy to be, I want to keep in mind that I am the type of person that always wants to be learning. Sport psychology is an ever developing occupation where there is always something new in the field to implement with your client, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Assessments are valuable because not only do they give the consultant a starting point in their treatment plan, but it could also be beneficial for an athlete to see where they began and where they are as the sessions progress. As McCann, Jowdy, and Van Raalte (2002) also point out, it is important that you have in writing you has access to the assessments and who can view them to keep any potential confidentiality issues at bay. Confidentiality is also something that will need to be addressed if a coach is hiring me for his client or a parent his hiring me for their young athlete. One thing that Dr. Carr, an alumnus of the program, taught me in an interview I did with him for our introduction to counseling class last year is to always have confidentiality outlined in your contract. For example, Dr. Carr says that when the front office or the coach keeps consistently asking what is going on in sessions even though he has explained confidentiality issues, he can default to his own contract and explain that he can be fired and he is not willing to risk that. He also says that if the athlete wishes to share with the coach, what the athlete is willing to share, when, and to whom is outlined in a written consent. In addition, Dr. Carr says he also makes it a point to receive verbal consent as well. It will also need to be made known to the athlete ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Determination of Specific Heat Determination of specific heat Capacity of a solid by electrical method Introduction Thermal conductivity heat is transferred as a consequence of temperature difference between 2 bodies, heat energy passes form a hotter to the colder body. Specific heat capacity is the amount of heat energy required in joules to raise 1kg of a substance by 1 degree Celsius, different substances absorb heat energy at different rates not all substances require the same amount of heat energy to increase the internal temperature of a substance this depends on the mass and the material it s self. To demonstrate specific heat capacity of a solid an experiment was carried out using 1kg aluminium mass and 1kg copper mass heat was conducted to the masses by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reason for this is that copper s molecules are more densely packed and so it is a good conductor of heat, and when 1 kg of each substance are compared visually it is easily seen that 1kg of copper mass is far smaller than 1kg of aluminium mass. Aluminium is more efficient at radiating or dispersing heat as it is less dense which also makes it a lighter material. Overall this experiment has successfully reached its objectives however some errors have occurred as shown in the experimental errors where the experimental values do not match the actual values of the materials this could be caused by heat loss through the material which could be reduced with better insulation of the material. Further error could have been avoided in the first experiment by letting the heating element reach its maximum output before inserting it into the aluminium block as the warm up time is not taken into consideration in the first experiment; this was not a factor in the second experiment as the heating element was immediately placed into the copper block and was at its maximum ...
