Culture and Creative Industry Week 1 Essay
Week 2
2. Critical Theory and the Critique of the Culture Industry
This lecture considers how the Critical Theorists of the Frankfurt School sought to understand the
relationship of culture and society in an age of advanced capitalism and mass media. It explores their
analyses of popular culture, and poses the question of whether the term culture industry has now lost
its original, critical meaning.
Key thinkers: Marx, Gramsci, Adorno, Horkheimer, Benjamin
Seminar questions
1.Has the mechanical reproduction of art opened up possibilities of a more democratic appreciation, or
merely reduced it to the status of a commodity?
2.Has the Culture Industry killed High Culture ?

How is this useful for media criticism
Film Criticism:
The difference between theater and film is also about loss of aura. A play (has aura) is always different
because the actors interact with the audience and each performance is unique. A film, however has no
audience the actors usually only perform tiny fragments of the whole and generally not even in
order....movies are pieced together by editors. Film 也是一种reproduction。
Audience Reception:
Watching a film is a collective experience and each audience member is a critic its part of the fun.
Think of a newsreel when a group of people witness an event they are educated on something and they
can become politically active because of it (For example, although he was talking about the potential
for class revolt Benjamin would be proven correct when American men and women were motivated
by newsreels in WWII美国人民在二战的时期受过新闻短片的影响。新闻短片在这儿来看是一种
political propaganda). 看新闻是一种educated你。受众是一种被动的过程,受众接受what they
want to tell you.
Capitalism/Fan Culture:
But just as the medium has the potential to be used in the Revolution, it cannot be because it is
controlled by capitalism (this might be a good connection to the Hollywood Censored book).
Because of the way capitalism operates, there is a false consciousness between the actors and
audience. The actors become held up as having cult value (ritual

An Essay On Ender s Journey
In the novel Ender s Game by Orson Scott Card, the main character, Ender, undergoes a journey to a
secret battle school in space. Ender is recruited by the government to fight a war against an alien race
trying to invade Earth. Is he violent and war driven like his brother or is he nice and peace seeking like
his sister? In the story his fear of becoming like his brother begins to turn Ender into his brother. This
fear is finally realized at the end of the book when he unknowingly killed millions of people in order
to commit the genocide of the alien race and end the war.
Ender takes many journeys throughout the book, his literal, and most obvious, being his trip to the
battle school. In the battle school, he learns many valuable lessons such as, when to stand your
ground. He applied this when he fought his bully in the bathroom and killed him by accident. During
his journey, he played a game that simulated situations based on the information gathered on the
player. Ender s mental health begins ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When he arrived at the planet, he immediately noticed that the landing site was exactly like the game
that he played at battle school. The map was exactly the same, so he followed the path he took in the
game and found an egg that held the future queen of the invaders. This was his final choice whether he
would kill the egg and any hope for a future for the invaders, or would he raise the race as his own and
teach the morals of the human race to prevent further wars. All of Ender s journeys were leading up to
this one moment. Everything was predetermined, the game had showed him the exact location of the
egg for this final decision. Throughout the novel, Ender s decisions lead him to take either violent or
passive actions. These actions lead him on journeys where he must make a final choice: succumb to
the violence of his brother, or choose to be peaceful like his

American Nationalism Dbq Essay

1. United States government reflected the rise of nationalism on a nationalism based legal and rational
concepts of citizenship, and based on a common language and cultural traditions, rather than ethnic
nationalism. The War of 1812 also inspired American nationalism for many reasons.
2. It allowed Missouri to enter the union as a slave state and Maine as a free state. It restored the
balance of a slave and free states in the Union to 15 a piece. It also created more tension between the
north and the south.

The decision the supreme court made, which declared that slaves were not citizens and that the
Missouri Compromise was unconstitutional, outraged Northerners and contributed to the start of the

13. They believed slaves were necessary and important and felt it was necessary to pass laws to
control their freedom. John Brown attacked an army post in Harper s Ferry, Virginia (VA). His trial
divided the north and south. He was captured, convicted and hung.
14. There are many reasons that led to the civil war. President Lincoln becoming president was one of
the first reasons. Societal differences between industrial north and agricultural south. Slavery mostly
because all Southern whites wanted to become a slave owner. Slavery was a major cause for the Civil
War. Only a few amount of Southerners owned Slaves because of money issues. The destruction of the
Missouri compromise was another reason.
15. By issuing the Emancipation Proclamation, Lincoln guaranteed that the war had to end with the
conquest of the South. He thought that if slavery could not expand, it would eventually die. He wanted
to use the vote to resolve the conflict over slavery, free all slaves in the United States, uphold the Dred

The Renaissance in Art Essay
Renaissance Art
When the new upper class movement, Renaissance, occurred in Italy around the 14th century, a
revival of the classical forms originally developed by the ancient Greeks and Romans, an intensified
concern with secular life, and interest in humanism and assertion of the importance of the individual
began. Thus, artists such as Mosaccio and Giotto depicted art that unlike the Middle Ages, showed
emotions, feelings, and bright colors, thus demonstrating the deep concern for naturalism in the
society. Other artists during the Italian Renaissance period such as Giovanni Bellini began to express
their art through secular and religious themes and ideas that were exhibited through landscapes and
portraits. As new styles of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His most famous and recognized work, however, the Birth of Venus uses the combination of
mythology and religion, also a popular humanistic idea adopted from the Greeks.
With the continuous growth of paintings and artists, prestige for art increased dramatically to the point
in which religious aspects were shown through landscapes, portraits, and temperas. This then allowed
the creation of new styles and mathematical input that manifested everyday life with religious aspects.
One such artist was Giovanni Bellini who introduced bright, rich, strong colors into his palette and
landscapes that expressed the happiness, calmness, and prosperity that Italy carried throughout the
Renaissance. These characteristics and styles of paintings subsequently became a popular Venetian
cornerstone. Other important figures in the Italian Renaissance that demonstrated the movement?s
ideas through their ingenious paintings and architectural methods were Pier Della Francesca and Leon
Battista Alberti. Francesca, who was and expert in mathematics, developed the art form of perspective.
Alberti, on the other hand, as an architect developed the pediment which became popular throughout
the entire Renaissance. His monasteries and churches depicted many of the religious ideas, as evident
in one of his famous works, the Santa Maria Novella. All in all, the use of the common religious
themes such as the annunciation, adoration, Crucifixion, and the popular Madonna

Analysis of The Histroy and Topography of Ireland by...
For Gerald of Wales, religion was one of the most essential aspects of being a civilized human being.
Therefore, when he wrote, The History and Topography of Ireland, he portrayed its inhabitants as
subhuman and barbaric during his apparent travels to Ireland. As a colonizer, Gerald picked a far away
place in which many had not been to, in order to establish them as the other . Unfortunately, for
Gerald, he may have ridiculed the Irish for their lifestyle conveyed in his writing, but his exploitation
of them most likely was done because he could in fact relate to them. In the book, The Postcolonial
Middle Ages, Jeffery Jerome Cohen s analysis in his chapter, Hybrids, Monsters, Borderlands: The
Bodies of Gerald of Wales , closely focuses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although, when explaining how the half man half ox came to be, the man having relations with the ox
was not subject to dishonor, but instead it was said to just be a particular vice of that people (74).
Here, Gerald suggests that although it was a man that acted dishonorably something beautiful came
out of it, while the children of the bestial women are not spoken of most likely because they were so
wretched. Gerald seems to be relating cultural hybridity to the act of interspecies crossbreeding,
ultimately allowing the reader to relate it to filth. By showing different forms of miscegenation,
Gerald makes each variation seem negative to his readers, which makes Ireland as a whole look like a
place for hybrid mongrels .
On one hand, Gerald may be ashamed of his own biological makeup, because of his parent s filthy
urges but, on the other hand, he still holds some confidence in the fact that because he is more
involved with his Christianity, he could not possibly make the same ghastly choices that his parents
and supposedly the Irish appeared to. He uses the Irish his book to make an example out of anyone
involved in hybridity. According to Gerald, the Irish are ignorant of the rudiments of the Faith and do
not attend God s church with due reverence , but instead he repeatedly accuses them of incestuous
relations and have yet to pay tithes or first fruit or contract marriages (106). He is upset with the Irish

Learning Theory Essay
I. Presuppositions/truth claims:
Human beings are created creatures with predetermined human (distinct and separate from animal)
potential and an in born slavery to imperfection/sin. Learners may have experienced God s redemption
and therefore may opt to perform in a way which will show itself at times and/or the residual benefit
of being made in God s image may at times prevail, such as a humanitarian s actions or a child doing
good . God positions man in his fallen and therefore sinful state as neither essentially good nor even
simply neutral, so the innate/native moral nature of humans is bad.

Automated processes are those stored in long term memory but accessed subconsciously or
autonomously.
Environmental input may or may not be processed into the human s long term memory, and may not
even be acknowledged/receive attention/be perceived in a person s short term memory . Short term
memory permits the human s conscious direct interaction with environmental factors. Humans are
interactive, constantly processing incoming sensory information by comparing and contrasting
(assimilation/accommodation) and recombining it with schematas/templates/prototypes or building
upon scaffolding already in the mind. Motivation to learn is native/intrinsic to humans and the degree
to which one participates is encouraged or discouraged by many factors. These factors include the
status of the person s basic needs (current physiological and/or psychological state) and anticipation of
outcome (advantage/disadvantage) of gaining said knowledge.
Understanding is connecting (compare/contrast then integrate) new ideas to pre existing ones, forming
meanings, expectations, generalizations, and sometimes new concepts (insights may fall anywhere in
this process). III. Practical Applications:
Class time is opened with an activity, usually for the whole class viewing the overhead
projection/smart board, which introduces some aspect of the lesson in an attempt to assist the student
in retrieving any information he/she may already have in his memory. I

Internal Communication At Radio 21
Introduction
Internal communication can be seen as the oil that makes a company run smoothly or the bridge that
creates connections between employees and responsibilities. In fact, effective internal communication
leads to superior understanding and encourages knowledge sharing, which can be only a positive
aspect for the well functioning of an organization (Institute of Internal Communication, n.d.).
Radio 21
Radio 21, also known as one of the most popular private networks in Bucharest, Romania, is a small
radio station with a major impact on the target group between 15 and 25 years old (Berry, 2004). It is
primarily based on the practice of airing radio advertisements, while it broadcasts music hits,
entertaining content and news bulletins (Psychogiopoulou, 2012). Furthermore, the slogan of Radio
21, Station of fun , is easy to remember and communicates the uniqueness of its company in a fairly
straightforward, focused and clear manner.
Radio 21 used to be the No.1 radio in Bucharest a few years ago, but due to the evolution of other
private radio stations and a change in listeners preferences, Radio 21 suffered a considerable loss in
market share (Rezultatul Studiului de Audienta Radio, 2008). Therefore, this is the major reason why
the company s current short term objective is to reach the Top 5 most listened radio stations in ...

Discovering and fulfilling attractive requirements creates a wide range of possbilities for
differentiation. A product which merely satisfies the must be and one dimensional requirements is
perceived as average and therefore interchangeable (Hinterhuber/Aichner/Lobenwein 1994).
In the following we will explain how product requirements can be classified by means of a
questionnaire. The ski industry, where more than 1500 customers were interviewed, is used to
demonstrate how product requirements are ascertained, how a questionnaire is constructed, how the
results are evaluated and interpreted and used as the basis for product development.
Step one: Identification of product requirements Walk in you customer s shoes The starting point for
constructing the Kano questionnaire are the product requirements which have been determined in
explorative investigations. Griffin/Hauser (1993) found that only 20 to 30 customer interviews in
homogenous segments suffice to determine approximately 90 95% of all possible product
requirements. Many market research institutes use focus group interviews to determine product
requirements, assuming that group dynamic effects enable a greater number of

Capitalism And Globalization
Capitalism provides and sustain an endless circle of production of commodities, promoting both mass
and niche consumptions, fueling the never ending economic cycle, generating over accumulation, and
finally a new crisis that reorganizes capitalism, starting everything over and over again (Baran
Sweezy, 1966; Harvey, 2003). The complexities entangled in the corporate culture of investment
banking, work place models, and organizational values of financial capitalism, as well as its cultural
and economic dimensions, obscure the blue collar, manufacturing, work underneath. Jobs performing
very physical and material duties are not only basic to a financial economy, but are at the foundations
of capitalism itself. However, this material work is blurred by the fancier discourses and images about
creative work , innovation , and economy of knowledge in a global scale.
Therefore, what role for capital does the communication system play? (Smythe, cited in Guback,
1994, p. 2). There are particularly three main processes involved in the connections between
communication and capital: the commodification, that is, the process of transforming use to exchange
value; the spacialization, described as the transformation of the time/space produced by
communication, and finally, the structuration, which is the process of building structures with social
agency (Mosco, 2009). These three processes are tightly embedded in the globalization phenomena
and its implications, such as the

Reflection And Discernment
Reflection and Discernment in a Dynamic World
Reflection
Reflection is a careful thought about oneself, one s behaviour and one s beliefs. It means reviewing
past experiences and making insights about them. Reflection is like looking into the mirror and saying
what you see. ( Self reflection | Unison , 2017)
It is necessary, because it encourages personal growth. Reflection helps identify our mistakes and how
we can improve on them in the future. It also strengthens a person s emotional intelligence and self
regulation, because during self reflection, you have the opportunity of checking your strengths,
weaknesses, values, and goals and to also check your impact on the people around you. Self regulation
involves being able to correct oneself and adapt to changing situations. This is the building of a
successful life. Reflection enables one to act with Integrity. This occurs as a result of conscious effort,
reviewing all the actions made and decisions taken and comparing them to the values you hold in
esteem would help you monitor and control yourself and slowly help you become a person of
integrity. Over time, reviewing and reflecting on your past will help you solidify the ... Show more

How Does Modern Life Evolve Over Millions Of Years Or Was...
Did modern life evolve over millions of years or was it created by God? The controversy started when
Charles Darwin published his book On the Origin of Species. His theory of evolution stated that all
life evolved from a single celled organism. However, creationists rejected this theory. They referenced
the Bible s Book of Genesis for the historical account of how life was created. But without a doubt,
there is undeniable evidence to support the fact that life on earth came from a common ancestor. With
the recent advances in both science and technology, scientists can use fossil records, genetic changes
and anatomical similarities to prove that life as we know it evolved from one common ancestor.
The remains and imprints of organisms found in earlier geological periods are still preserved in
sedimentary rocks. These fossil records allow scientists to look through vast periods of time and attest
to the fact that some species have transitional traits found in larger groups of organisms. This proves
that species evolved from a distant ancestor and were not fixed there by God. Animals such as apes
and the Archaeopteryx are evidence of the missing links and the gaps humanity has filled in the fossil
records. They are also examples of transitional species that have tied different groups of species
together through common traits and skeletal features. Fossil records also prove that single celled
organisms were succeeded by multi celled organisms which ties back to Charles Darwin

Executive Branch Of Immigration
IMMIGRATION
A topic of concern in today s world is immigration. Its effects have led to actions by the three
branches of our federal government: the legislative branch, the executive branch and the judicial
branch. This topic of immigration has been around since the beginning of our great nation and shows
no signs of slowing down. I m going to explain the factual basis of immigration and how it affects the
three branches of government. I will also explain how it affects our society as well. Immigration is a
major issue, and it is the job of our government to find ways to keep it under control and have an

Government Bailout for Corporate Failures Essay
Gup (2003) brings out that financial trouble is a periodical concern that occurs to banks, industrial
companies and other organizations. Gup begins his article by reviewing the history and importance of
government bailouts for corporate failures. In his article on What Does Too Big to Fail Mean? he uses
rhetoric questions in order to engage the readers in his analysis of government bailouts. For instance,
he poses the question, what should governments and government regulators do about it? (Gup, 2003,
p. 29). It in this case referred to the periodical financial troubles of the above mentioned institutions.
By using the question, Gup engages the reader in trying to think about what the government can do in

This organization was meant to deal with the widespread business failures, unemployment and
municipalities in financial distress. The RFC was however terminated in 1957 (Gup, 2003).
Gup presents a second option which governments can adopt in response to business failures by
exploring extents to whicht governments can move to protect companies from their competitors. He
gives the example of how in 2002 George W. Bush imposed tariffs on imported steel so as to protect
selected ailing steel companies from foreign competition. Gup highlights the opinions of others who
claimed that the move by the former US President was not an action taken in national interest but was
aimed at gaining West Virginia and Pennsylvania votes (Gup, 2003). Here Gup uses a skeptical
statement and attempts to make the reader aware that government action can be intended for political
gain instead of the goodwill of the nation.
Gup also uses approaches aimed at narrowing down the scope of his article. He presents aspects of the
wider topic about government bailouts and states that his article would not be reviewing those aspects.
Gup in his beginning chapters warns the reader that there are also cases where there is the intervention
of international bodies such as the International Monetary Fund, such as when the US Treasury and
IMF aided Brazil, Mexico, Korea, Brazil, Argentina and other

A Brief Note On Fair Dealing And Fair Use
A recurrent theme evident throughout copyright literature is the comparison between fair dealing and
fair use. These provisions allow for additional rights to be awarded to users for educational or research
purposes. Their meaning and scope are defined by different legal systems, thus are not synonymous
terms. Fair dealing is a legal term pertaining to common law jurisdictions. It is used to establish
whether the use of a copyright material is lawful or whether it infringes copyright. With research or
private study as a central requirement, a two part test must be carried out with the purpose, the
character, the amount, the alternatives, the nature, and the effects of the dealing taken into
consideration. The introduction of the fair use model, with different elements to the US doctrine, is
highlighted by the Modernising Copyright Report 2013. With recent worldwide trends moving to a
fair use doctrine, there are many advocates promoting the method, considering it a highly flexible way
of enabling use of copyright works without infringement. Universities Australia, in its submission to
the ALRC discussion paper, believed the replacement of fair dealing exceptions with fair use would
enable academics to use copyright material in more advantageous ways currently afforded to the US.
Fair Tidmarsh also reach favourable conclusions, noting that it would allow copyright works to be
used in a way consistent with the greater public interest of facilitating

Example Of Opponent Process Theory
Opponent process theory: Fred s Behavior
Fred is working in a job that is stressful, he enjoys drinking a few beers after work, but, there are
different states of emotions that occur during these events. We will look at Fred s behaviors, feelings
and the different conditions that is experienced, through a theory termed Opponent process.
Fred s Addiction
Fred drinking a beer activates a positive A state (pleasure). Automatic arousal of the opponent B state
(withdrawal) causes Fred s initial A state (pleasure) to diminish as he continues to drink beer. When
Fred stops drinking, the A state declines quickly, and he experiences the B state (withdrawal).
When an unconditioned stimulus, (reinforcer), is repeatedly presented to human three major affective
phenomena are often observed. First, affective or hedonic contrast. Second, frequent repetition of the
unconditioned stimulus, (reinforcer), gives rise to affective habituation (tolerance). Finally, after
frequent repetition of these stimuli, (reinforcer) a withdrawal emerges directly following stimulus
termination (Solomon, 1980).

pressure, but more subtly by phrasing and articulation. Variety of tonal color can be obtained, on a
harpsichord by judicious choice of registration. The harpsichord was used both for solo performance

The Importance Of Supply Chain Management Of Heinz Ketchup
The bestselling ketchup was introduced to the word over 140 years ago in 1876 and by 1906 Heinz
sold over 13 million bottles of ketchup per year. Today, Heinz ketchup remains the bestselling ketchup
selling 650 million bottles annually. From the tomato fields to productions, to Heinz ketchup factories
around the world, Heinz creates America s favorite ketchup. As a result, it takes organizational
management and supply chain to deliver and distribute Heinz Ketchup to restaurants, retailers, and
customers around the globe. This document will examine the supply chain network and the
importance of operations management for Heinz Ketchup.
Heinz Ketchup Operations and Supply Chain Management Today, it is even more important for a
company to constantly identify and implement operational efficiencies to protect their margins. The
development of innovative supply chain strategies and operational management enables world leading
companies like The Kraft Heinz Company (Kraft Heinz) to provide functioning solutions for the needs
of the company. Conversely, consumer spending continued to receive downward pressure at checkout
driven by an uncertain global economy. The Kraft Heinz Company is aimed to tackle this challenge
head on by streamlining the supply chain that supports its brands in North America. This strategy

Causes Of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome
Fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) is one of the most prominent and serious conditions associated with
Fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD). There is no cure, and infants born with this condition
display facial abnormalities, wide set and narrow eyes, growth problems and dysfunction of the
nervous system.
Cause
FAS is caused by consumption of alcohol by a pregnant mother. The alcohol travels across the
placenta and into the fetal blood circulation where it breaks down at a much slower rate than in an
adult s body. Because the alcohol takes longer to break down, the levels build up and cause the fetus to
develop improperly. No amount of alcohol is safe when a woman is pregnant.

Cap And Trade Vs Carbon Tax Essay
1. This is the third class I have taken where we have discussed cap trade vs. carbon tax. I believe both
systems have their merits and utilizing either one would positively affect climate change and the
economy. I believe carbon taxes are the better of the two options because it is simple and immediately
causes companies and individuals of ways to reduce fuel and energy consumption. Simply put the less
fossil fuel used the less the tax affects the company or individual. Secondly money collected in taxes
should be based right back to the businesses and individuals in the form of tax breaks and rebates.
This will spark growth in the economy. Cap and Trade on the other hand set a predictable carbon
dioxide levels and rewards companies for being beneath those limits by allowing them to sell their
their unused allotment of carbon credits. Companies that have been able to meet their required levels
can in turn by these extra allotments and in turn by themselves more time to develop new ways to
reach the predetermined goal. This later system spars free trade and will have the overall affect of
reducing carbon emissions however I believe it creates less of an initiative for bigger more lucrative
companies to reduce carbon emissions and just gives them a way to buy themselves a way to continue
to pollute above acceptable standards.

disagree with any of the points offered by the experts I just personally lean more toward the carbon tax

Pros And Cons Of Banning The Daily Stormer
While banning The Daily Stormer may not prevent them from creating another outlet to spread
negativity, there are still pro s that come from it. One pro that would come out of banning The Daily
Stormer is that there would be one less outlet spreading hateful messages. Furthermore, there would
be no basis of meaning set out on how to treat others. Banning The Daily Stormer also shows that
companies are willing to step up and speak out on what they believe in. This could also defer future
hate groups by creating fear of also being shut down. Even though there are other ways to go about
getting rid of people who spread hatred towards other groups of people who are not their own, I think
that the web platforms had the right to deny access to The Daily Stormer if they feared that any other

I think that the Daily Stormer should be able to freely express their opinions, whether other people

however controversial they may be. As members of a society, we should accept that not everyone is
going to agree with us, and getting angry or trying to silence someone because they have different
beliefs is simply barbaric. It is important that one learns to listen to different perspectives about the

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau
Overview This document describes the manner in which Vendor Oversight assigns tiers to Pacific
Union Financial ( PUF or the Firm ) vendors and manages vendors accordingly to facilitate due
diligence, maintenance and compliance with Firm, state, and Federal requirements. Background The
Consumer Financial Protection Bureau ( CFPB ) is tasked with writing and enforcing rules for
financial entities to protect consumers from unfair, deceptive or otherwise harmful practices by such
entities. A major area of focus for the CFPB is a robust and effective oversight of a financial
institution s third party providers (vendors) to ensure consumers are not exposed to unnecessary risk
of financial or personal harm. The CFPB has not issued specific rules outlining how a financial
institution must oversee its vendors; however, they have provided guidelines which outline the areas
that such institutions should consider in their oversight program. Among these, establishing internal
controls and on going monitoring to determine whether the service provider is complying with Federal
consumer financial law is specifically stated as an expectation of the CFPB for financial institutions
towards their third party providers. Procedure Vendor Oversight has developed and maintains a robust
third party oversight program to efficiently and effectively source, vet, onboard and continually
evaluate the performance of PUF third party providers. As part of this process, each vendor is assigned

Canada s Trade Barriers
Canada is comprised of ten provinces and three territories, a small number that can conceivably focus
on redefining internal barriers for the convenience of the entire country. The Globe and Mail article
Canada s new free trade agreement? How about a deal between provinces by Perrin Beatty refers to
trade that is occurring inside of Canada in relation to the internal barriers of trade. As a country,
Canada s first priority when it comes to trade is not necessarily trading issues between provinces, but
instead trading between other countries. Canada should first and foremost be correcting barriers for
trade between all of its borders before continuing to create agreements that make trading easier for
only some provinces.
When the Agreement ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Agreement on Internal Trade is not as helpful as one would think to reduce interprovincial
barriers. Issues arise when there is an inability to assimilate what is needed to reduce barriers. It has
been so inconvenient that provinces in Canada have had to team together to make their own
agreements. The agreement between Ontario and Quebec is a good example of why an agreement
among provinces is not impossible. They have made it possible to focus on agriculture between the
two of them, without making large changes to packaging or regulations. If Ontario and Quebec can
work around the rules of the Agreement of Internal Trade then how would it be so difficult to involve
the entire county? Though it will be difficult to synchronize an entire country it would be worth it for
the economical advantages, along with showing other nations that Canada is not the mouse that
everyone thinks. The other benefit of true interprovincial trade is breaking down the walls formed
through the country. Though I am not naïve in thinking that breaking down trade barriers will fix the
nation, I do think that it is the first step in making a unified country again. Canada would be wise to
right the wrongs that the Agreement of Internal Trade has brought up and follow a strong leadership in
correcting the barriers that it has put in

Mentoring In The Classroom
III. Mentoring Life is a continuous learning experience, so even those who are knowledgeable still
need someone to act as their mentors. As we continue to seek for knowledge, we become more
efficient in our chosen field or career path. Just like being a teacher, it is like a rollercoaster ride of a
colorful experience. In times when a teacher is on top, he feels like he doesn t need anyone but when
he s at the bottom, he will seek for an experienced teacher to motivate him and bring back the
momentum to him. However, no matter if you are on top or the bottom, a teacher should always look
up to someone for professional learning. Mentoring is a teacher to motivational teacher scenario that is
an effective technique for obtaining professional development. The objectives of this strategy are to
assist new teachers most especially as they begin their career as educators and to hone the leadership
ability of mentors. By using this strategy, the expected results would be the enhancement of quality
learning while developing teachers knowledge; establishing professional learning communities and
honing leadership ability within the school. The key elements mentioned in the book were concrete

Nancy Mairs s Passage In The Passage Of Nancy Mair
In the passage, Nancy Mairs presents herself as an empowered, intelligent, and strong cripple. The
first line is I am a cripple which is pretty straightforward, and the matter of fact tone that it is stated in
stays pretty consistent throughout the entire passage. Mairs upfront attitude from the start convinces
the reader that she is unafraid to identify herself however she wants. Later she states that she refuses to
pretend that the only differences between you and me are the various ordinary ones that distinguish
any one person from another . She is realistic to a point that she occasionally seems cynical, but
deeper analysis of the text reveals that that is untrue. Throughout the entire passage, Mairs establishes
that she is extremely intelligent. She uses a colorful vocabulary (semantic, euphemism, calamitous)
and complex sentences. Mairs also makes reference to famous authors and their work. Mairs says my
God is not a
Handicapper General, which alludes to Harrison Bergeron, a short story by Kurt Vonnegut, as well as
a 10th century gospel piece in line 18. She establishes her intelligence in order to prove to the reader
that she is simply crippled and not disabled, which suggests any incapacity physical or mental . It is
clear that Mairs has no mental incapacity, and she makes this very clear purposefully. Nancy chooses
to use the word crippled because other words aren t as straightforward and precise, and as a lover of

Red Dog Film Analysis
The world is a funny place, no? Sometimes you pick your dog. Sometimes your dog picks you. Good
morning ladies and gentlemen for the AFC, and the quote you have just heard is from the Australian
film Red dog and is stated to be one of the most powerful quotes in Australian theatre. Australian film
has been around for many years and of those years there have been many examples of what some
might like to call a masterpiece. Some of these films include the Mad Max series, Gallipoli, Crocodile
Dundee but of these films, the film that stands out the most to audiences is the movie Red dog. Red
dog is directed by Australian producer Kriv Stenders and was made in 2011. The story takes place
during the 1970 s so one would expect to view various counts of racism and sexism but there was no
evidense of these themes ever showing as the dialogue had been written for a G rating. It was as if the
whole production has had its mouth washed out with soap by there mother for cursing. The reason this
film was successful to most was because of the message it portrayed as the movie was based around a
young Australian Kelpie named Red dog and how he united a fractured community while searching
for his master. The movie is highly regarded today as of the best Australian films as it brings all
Australian values to the table. The main reason for the audiences love for this film is because of its
portrayal of a character s loyalty, mateship and the Australian Landscape and this is what occurs
throughout the film.
Mateship is a big part of Australian culture as us as Australians live and breathe the words of
friendship and that is why this film is so successful, because it brought an un unlikely hero and made
the character bond with an entire town. As Australians, we love a good animal story and due to the
bond between the main character John and his companion Red dog was so strong it was as if the pair
were inseparable. The Australian notion of mateships is portrayed in the film when the character Joko
is talking about the type of man that should have a statue for all to admire as he states It should be
somebody who lives and breathes desolation, somebody that has red dust stuck up their nose and in
their eyes and in their ears

Similarities Between Good Night And Good Luck In The Crucible
Arthur Miller s The Crucible, has many unique and complicated characters, purposed to show the
severe injustice of the Joseph McCarthy trials in the 1950 s. The injustices created by these trails
creates many different conflicts, both internal and external between many different characters. A
similar motif is expressed in George Clooney s Good Night and Good Luck. Arthur Miller uses many
different characters to show the chaos the trails created, by relating it to the story of the Salem Witch
Trials. The characters of John Proctor and Reverend Hale both resemble different ways of dealing with
internal conflict. John Proctor, had a struggle between his head and his heart. For Example, after he

The Salem witch trials cause confusion among people, because it forces them to question their beliefs,
which are the basis of their entire lifestyle in Salem. Reverend Hale, coming to Salem believes he is
doing good, and helping to destroy the devil, but as the trials progress, we learn that he is doubtful of
his faith. Arthur Miller masterfully shows the counterproductiveness of the trials. The purpose of the
trials was to preserve the people of Salem, but it actually achieves to opposite by destroying people s
belief in their beliefs. During the trial scene, Arthur Miller also uses the character of Mary Warren to
show confusion. Mary Warren knows the truth, but she manages to convince herself otherwise. In Act
three, during the court scene, there are a few solid moments, where Mary Warren is unsure of her own
beliefs, and of what she saw, or didn t see. Another example of this is in Good Night and Good Luck
by George Clooney when Edward R Murrow is unsure if he should continue his quest to end the
Joseph McCarthy trials. His boss seems to be unhappy with his program on CBS, and he is unsure of
what to do. Finally, an example of this confusion caused by the trials is illustrated in Elizabeth Proctor,
when she differs from her beliefs to state that she doesn t believe in witches. In Puritan society,
witches were the ultimate evil. In some ways, they were a

Moral Responsibility and Harry Frankfurt
The incompatibilists argue that one is morally responsible for what she has done given that she could
have done otherwise. Further, they think that if determinism is true then one could not have done
otherwise, so if determinism is true, one is not morally responsible for things she has done. In debates
surrounding the issue of free will, philosophers have focused on discussing whether determinism is
true or false. Harry Frankfurt thinks even though the requirement of alternative possibilities in order to
be held morally responsible for our actions seems intuitively plausible, it is a questionable premise in
the argument provided by incompatibilists. Frankfurt calls the premise that a person is morally
responsible for what he has done only if he could have done otherwise the principle of alternative
possibilities or PAP (Frankfurt, 829). He argues that PAP is false and a person can be held morally
responsible even if she could not have done otherwise. Frankfurt presents counterexamples to PAP to
prove its falsity. He tells us to assume that there is a universal controller that wants to ensure certain
outcomes. The controller makes it impossible for an agent to act otherwise, which causes her to act
exactly as the controller wishes. Frankfurt argues that in such a case it is true that agent is not
responsible for her action and that she could not have done otherwise, but he thinks that the agent s
lack of responsibility does not follow from her inability to do otherwise.

  • 2. Culture and Creative Industry Week 1 Essay Week 2 2. Critical Theory and the Critique of the Culture Industry This lecture considers how the Critical Theorists of the Frankfurt School sought to understand the relationship of culture and society in an age of advanced capitalism and mass media. It explores their analyses of popular culture, and poses the question of whether the term culture industry has now lost its original, critical meaning. Key thinkers: Marx, Gramsci, Adorno, Horkheimer, Benjamin Seminar questions 1.Has the mechanical reproduction of art opened up possibilities of a more democratic appreciation, or merely reduced it to the status of a commodity? 2.Has the Culture Industry killed High Culture ? Capitalism/Fan Culture: But just as the medium has the potential to be used in the Revolution, it cannot be because it is controlled by capitalism (this might be a good connection to the Hollywood Censored book). Because of the way capitalism operates, there is a false consciousness between the actors and audience. The actors become held up as having cult value (ritual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ender is recruited by the government to fight a war against an alien race trying to invade Earth. Is he violent and war driven like his brother or is he nice and peace seeking like his sister? In the story his fear of becoming like his brother begins to turn Ender into his brother. This fear is finally realized at the end of the book when he unknowingly killed millions of people in order to commit the genocide of the alien race and end the war. Ender takes many journeys throughout the book, his literal, and most obvious, being his trip to the battle school. When he arrived at the planet, he immediately noticed that the landing site was exactly like the game that he played at battle school. The map was exactly the same, so he followed the path he took in the game and found an egg that held the future queen of the invaders. This was his final choice whether he would kill the egg and any hope for a future for the invaders, or would he raise the race as his own and teach the morals of the human race to prevent further wars. All of Ender s journeys were leading up to this one moment. Everything was predetermined, the game had showed him the exact location of the egg for this final decision. Throughout the novel, Ender s decisions lead him to take either violent or passive actions. The Renaissance in Art Essay Renaissance Art When the new upper class movement, Renaissance, occurred in Italy around the 14th century, a revival of the classical forms originally developed by the ancient Greeks and Romans, an intensified concern with secular life, and interest in humanism and assertion of the importance of the individual began. Thus, artists such as Mosaccio and Giotto depicted art that unlike the Middle Ages, showed emotions, feelings, and bright colors, thus demonstrating the deep concern for naturalism in the society. Other artists during the Italian Renaissance period such as Giovanni Bellini began to express their art through secular and religious themes and ideas that were exhibited through landscapes and portraits. His most famous and recognized work, however, the Birth of Venus uses the combination of mythology and religion, also a popular humanistic idea adopted from the Greeks. With the continuous growth of paintings and artists, prestige for art increased dramatically to the point in which religious aspects were shown through landscapes, portraits, and temperas. This then allowed the creation of new styles and mathematical input that manifested everyday life with religious aspects. One such artist was Giovanni Bellini who introduced bright, rich, strong colors into his palette and landscapes that expressed the happiness, calmness, and prosperity that Italy carried throughout the Renaissance. These characteristics and styles of paintings subsequently became a popular Venetian cornerstone. Other important figures in the Italian Renaissance that demonstrated the movement?s ideas through their ingenious paintings and architectural methods were Pier Della Francesca and Leon Battista Alberti. Francesca, who was and expert in mathematics, developed the art form of perspective. Alberti, on the other hand, as an architect developed the pediment which became popular throughout the entire Renaissance. His monasteries and churches depicted many of the religious ideas, as evident in one of his famous works, the Santa Maria Novella. • 6. Analysis of The Histroy and Topography of Ireland by... For Gerald of Wales, religion was one of the most essential aspects of being a civilized human being. Therefore, when he wrote, The History and Topography of Ireland, he portrayed its inhabitants as subhuman and barbaric during his apparent travels to Ireland. As a colonizer, Gerald picked a far away place in which many had not been to, in order to establish them as the other . Unfortunately, for Gerald, he may have ridiculed the Irish for their lifestyle conveyed in his writing, but his exploitation of them most likely was done because he could in fact relate to them. Here, Gerald suggests that although it was a man that acted dishonorably something beautiful came out of it, while the children of the bestial women are not spoken of most likely because they were so wretched. Gerald seems to be relating cultural hybridity to the act of interspecies crossbreeding, ultimately allowing the reader to relate it to filth. By showing different forms of miscegenation, Gerald makes each variation seem negative to his readers, which makes Ireland as a whole look like a place for hybrid mongrels . On one hand, Gerald may be ashamed of his own biological makeup, because of his parent s filthy urges but, on the other hand, he still holds some confidence in the fact that because he is more involved with his Christianity, he could not possibly make the same ghastly choices that his parents and supposedly the Irish appeared to. He uses the Irish his book to make an example out of anyone involved in hybridity. According to Gerald, the Irish are ignorant of the rudiments of the Faith and do not attend God s church with due reverence , but instead he repeatedly accuses them of incestuous relations and have yet to pay tithes or first fruit or contract marriages (106). Internal Communication At Radio 21 Introduction Internal communication can be seen as the oil that makes a company run smoothly or the bridge that creates connections between employees and responsibilities. In fact, effective internal communication leads to superior understanding and encourages knowledge sharing, which can be only a positive aspect for the well functioning of an organization (Institute of Internal Communication, n.d.). Radio 21 Radio 21, also known as one of the most popular private networks in Bucharest, Romania, is a small radio station with a major impact on the target group between 15 and 25 years old (Berry, 2004). Capitalism And Globalization Capitalism provides and sustain an endless circle of production of commodities, promoting both mass and niche consumptions, fueling the never ending economic cycle, generating over accumulation, and finally a new crisis that reorganizes capitalism, starting everything over and over again (Baran Sweezy, 1966; Harvey, 2003). The complexities entangled in the corporate culture of investment banking, work place models, and organizational values of financial capitalism, as well as its cultural and economic dimensions, obscure the blue collar, manufacturing, work underneath. The controversy started when Charles Darwin published his book On the Origin of Species. His theory of evolution stated that all life evolved from a single celled organism. However, creationists rejected this theory. They referenced the Bible s Book of Genesis for the historical account of how life was created. But without a doubt, there is undeniable evidence to support the fact that life on earth came from a common ancestor. With the recent advances in both science and technology, scientists can use fossil records, genetic changes and anatomical similarities to prove that life as we know it evolved from one common ancestor. The remains and imprints of organisms found in earlier geological periods are still preserved in sedimentary rocks. These fossil records allow scientists to look through vast periods of time and attest to the fact that some species have transitional traits found in larger groups of organisms. This proves that species evolved from a distant ancestor and were not fixed there by God. Animals such as apes and the Archaeopteryx are evidence of the missing links and the gaps humanity has filled in the fossil records. They are also examples of transitional species that have tied different groups of species together through common traits and skeletal features. Fossil records also prove that single celled organisms were succeeded by multi celled organisms which ties back to Charles Darwin ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These provisions allow for additional rights to be awarded to users for educational or research purposes. Their meaning and scope are defined by different legal systems, thus are not synonymous terms. Fair dealing is a legal term pertaining to common law jurisdictions. It is used to establish whether the use of a copyright material is lawful or whether it infringes copyright. With research or private study as a central requirement, a two part test must be carried out with the purpose, the character, the amount, the alternatives, the nature, and the effects of the dealing taken into consideration. The introduction of the fair use model, with different elements to the US doctrine, is highlighted by the Modernising Copyright Report 2013. With recent worldwide trends moving to a fair use doctrine, there are many advocates promoting the method, considering it a highly flexible way of enabling use of copyright works without infringement. Universities Australia, in its submission to the ALRC discussion paper, believed the replacement of fair dealing exceptions with fair use would enable academics to use copyright material in more advantageous ways currently afforded to the US. If Ontario and Quebec can work around the rules of the Agreement of Internal Trade then how would it be so difficult to involve the entire county? Though it will be difficult to synchronize an entire country it would be worth it for the economical advantages, along with showing other nations that Canada is not the mouse that everyone thinks. The other benefit of true interprovincial trade is breaking down the walls formed through the country. Though I am not naïve in thinking that breaking down trade barriers will fix the nation, I do think that it is the first step in making a unified country again. Canada would be wise to right the wrongs that the Agreement of Internal Trade has brought up and follow a strong leadership in correcting the barriers that it has put in ... • 30. Nancy Mairs s Passage In The Passage Of Nancy Mair In the passage, Nancy Mairs presents herself as an empowered, intelligent, and strong cripple. The first line is I am a cripple which is pretty straightforward, and the matter of fact tone that it is stated in stays pretty consistent throughout the entire passage. Mairs upfront attitude from the start convinces the reader that she is unafraid to identify herself however she wants. Later she states that she refuses to pretend that the only differences between you and me are the various ordinary ones that distinguish any one person from another . She is realistic to a point that she occasionally seems cynical, but deeper analysis of the text reveals that that is untrue. Throughout the entire passage, Mairs establishes that she is extremely intelligent. She uses a colorful vocabulary (semantic, euphemism, calamitous) and complex sentences. Mairs also makes reference to famous authors and their work. Mairs says my God is not a Handicapper General, which alludes to Harrison Bergeron, a short story by Kurt Vonnegut, as well as a 10th century gospel piece in line 18. She establishes her intelligence in order to prove to the reader that she is simply crippled and not disabled, which suggests any incapacity physical or mental . It is clear that Mairs has no mental incapacity, and she makes this very clear purposefully. Nancy chooses to use the word crippled because other words aren t as straightforward and precise, and as a lover of words she likes the conciseness of the word ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. Red Dog Film Analysis The world is a funny place, no? Sometimes you pick your dog. Sometimes your dog picks you. Good morning ladies and gentlemen for the AFC, and the quote you have just heard is from the Australian film Red dog and is stated to be one of the most powerful quotes in Australian theatre. Australian film has been around for many years and of those years there have been many examples of what some might like to call a masterpiece. Some of these films include the Mad Max series, Gallipoli, Crocodile Dundee but of these films, the film that stands out the most to audiences is the movie Red dog. Red dog is directed by Australian producer Kriv Stenders and was made in 2011. The story takes place during the 1970 s so one would expect to view various counts of racism and sexism but there was no evidense of these themes ever showing as the dialogue had been written for a G rating. It was as if the whole production has had its mouth washed out with soap by there mother for cursing. The reason this film was successful to most was because of the message it portrayed as the movie was based around a young Australian Kelpie named Red dog and how he united a fractured community while searching for his master. The movie is highly regarded today as of the best Australian films as it brings all Australian values to the table. The main reason for the audiences love for this film is because of its portrayal of a character s loyalty, mateship and the Australian Landscape and this is what occurs throughout the film. Mateship is a big part of Australian culture as us as Australians live and breathe the words of friendship and that is why this film is so successful, because it brought an un unlikely hero and made the character bond with an entire town. As Australians, we love a good animal story and due to the bond between the main character John and his companion Red dog was so strong it was as if the pair were inseparable. The Australian notion of mateships is portrayed in the film when the character Joko is talking about the type of man that should have a statue for all to admire as he states It should be somebody who lives and breathes desolation, somebody that has red dust stuck up their nose and in their eyes and in their ears ... Similarities Between Good Night And Good Luck In The Crucible Arthur Miller s The Crucible, has many unique and complicated characters, purposed to show the severe injustice of the Joseph McCarthy trials in the 1950 s. The injustices created by these trails creates many different conflicts, both internal and external between many different characters. A similar motif is expressed in George Clooney s Good Night and Good Luck. Arthur Miller uses many different characters to show the chaos the trails created, by relating it to the story of the Salem Witch Trials. Reverend Hale, coming to Salem believes he is doing good, and helping to destroy the devil, but as the trials progress, we learn that he is doubtful of his faith. Arthur Miller masterfully shows the counterproductiveness of the trials. The purpose of the trials was to preserve the people of Salem, but it actually achieves to opposite by destroying people s belief in their beliefs. During the trial scene, Arthur Miller also uses the character of Mary Warren to show confusion. Mary Warren knows the truth, but she manages to convince herself otherwise. In Act three, during the court scene, there are a few solid moments, where Mary Warren is unsure of her own beliefs, and of what she saw, or didn t see. Another example of this is in Good Night and Good Luck by George Clooney when Edward R Murrow is unsure if he should continue his quest to end the Joseph McCarthy trials. His boss seems to be unhappy with his program on CBS, and he is unsure of what to do. Finally, an example of this confusion caused by the trials is illustrated in Elizabeth Proctor, when she differs from her beliefs to state that she doesn t believe in witches. In Puritan society, witches were the ultimate evil. In some ways, they were a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Moral Responsibility and Harry Frankfurt The incompatibilists argue that one is morally responsible for what she has done given that she could have done otherwise. Further, they think that if determinism is true then one could not have done otherwise, so if determinism is true, one is not morally responsible for things she has done. In debates surrounding the issue of free will, philosophers have focused on discussing whether determinism is true or false. Harry Frankfurt thinks even though the requirement of alternative possibilities in order to be held morally responsible for our actions seems intuitively plausible, it is a questionable premise in the argument provided by incompatibilists. Frankfurt calls the premise that a person is morally responsible for what he has done only if he could have done otherwise the principle of alternative possibilities or PAP (Frankfurt, 829). He argues that PAP is false and a person can be held morally responsible even if she could not have done otherwise. Frankfurt presents counterexamples to PAP to prove its falsity. He tells us to assume that there is a universal controller that wants to ensure certain outcomes. The controller makes it impossible for an agent to act otherwise, which causes her to act exactly as the controller wishes. Frankfurt argues that in such a case it is true that agent is not responsible for her action and that she could not have done otherwise, but he thinks that the agent s lack of responsibility does not follow from her inability to do otherwise. ...
