Geography Of Chad Research Paper
The Republic of Chad is a country is located in North Central Africa, just south of Libya. One of Chad
s most striking characteristic is that it is one of the 48 countries in the world that is completely
surrounded by land. Being completely surrounded by land, Chad neighbors six other countries, Niger,
Sudan, Central African Republic, Cameroon, Nigeria and lastly Libya. (Shown in Figure 1) Chad
measures to about 495,755 square miles, almost tripling the size of California. Four bioclimatic zones
are obtained within this country, the Saharan, Sahelian, Sudanian, and Guinean zone.
The Saharan region is located in the northern part of West Africa and was mainly formed by the
Saharan Desert. This region posses a variety of distinct landscapes being sandy sheets, dune fields,
gravel plains, low plateaus and vast mountain ranges. The average rainfall ranges from 0 mm to about
150 mm per year. Due to the lack of rainfall vegetation is nearly scarce or absent. The vast mountain
ranges specifically consists of Aïr Mountains located within the Sahara Desert of Central Niger. The
Aïr Mountains extend over an area of 72,00 sq km, about the size of Sierra Leone, giving West Africa
some of the most beautiful scenery. (Shown in Figure 2)

The average rainfall reaches to about 600 mm to 1,200 mm per year with a 5 to 7 month dry season.
When rainfall occurs it is typically from May to October, allowing vegetation such as tall, perennial
grasses with trees growing among it. In the Sudanian region alone there is about 80 different tree
species that dominate the northern part of the region. Fires among the dense tree population is very
common, whether they are natural or human induced, they sweep through the region burning up to 80
percent of the area each

Essay Overfishing Experience
Growing up in Minnesota, I spent extensive time fishing amongst the states ten thousand lakes,
inquisitively examining how the environment influenced aquatic organisms. By examination, my
understanding of the underlying biology behind nature greatly increased, and likewise did my ability
to catch fish. However, many environmental factors influenced the ecosystem, inexplicably creating
great fishing one day but failure the next. In disbelief of my bad luck, I contended with explaining
such unpredictability in the ecosystem. After combining bathymetry, weather, and GPS data into a
geographic information system application , my next fishing trip was wildly successful. Ever since, I

Dq 3 Pressure Ulcers
DQ 3 Health outcome
I have been working as an NP for two years with home bound adults and geriatric patients, and it is
very common to provide treatment for pressure ulcer/skin breakdown/ bedsore. Many of these patients
develop the skin break down after just a short hospital stay, while others develop it in the home
environment. Among the common factors that contribute to pressure ulcers are debility, immobility
and poor nutritional intake. Pressure ulcers have been a significant health problem, especially among
the geriatric population (Jaul, E. (2010).
The presence of a pressure ulcer constitutes a geriatric dilemma, the cause of which is multifactorial.
Some of the problems leading up to this condition are immobility, nutritional deficiency ... Show more

Pain and temperature change often precede skin color changes. This injury results from intense and/or
prolonged pressure and shear forces at the bone muscle interface. The wound may evolve rapidly to
reveal the actual extent of tissue injury, or may resolve without tissue loss (Wolters Kluwer Health,
2017).
Level of measurement for the result is ordinal where stage 0 1 means no skin breakdown.

Eros And Nyx Similarities
There are thousands of myths, fables, and legends that exist in the world today. The stories differ
based on their origin and the storytellers over time. For example, the West African myth of Obatala
and the Greek myth of Eros and Nyx both suggest alternative ways of how the world was created.
There are many similarities and differences between the setting, characters, and culture of Greek and
West African creation stories. For example, the Greek legend of how the world began has a setting of
empty darkness. However, this was not the case for the West African story. This story s setting takes
place in a Baobab tree in the sky. Also, there was a big empty ocean under the sky. Although there was
an ocean later in the Greek story, it wasn t present

Re: $5 Billon Convertible Debt Offering Proposal
Dear Gentlemen:
We are pleased to present to you the salient features of our proposed $5B convertible debt offering for
your careful review and approval. We deemed it appropriate to walk you through the analytical
process in coming up with the right mix of conversion premium and coupon rate. We initially consider
a conversion premium of 25% and determine its corresponding coupon rate. We then explore the
appropriateness of such a premium and explore other conversion premium coupon rate combinations
and determine which combination would be optimal for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is because of the nature of Mogen s business, wherein most of the company s assets are
intangibles, which is typical of a risky company. This makes issuance of straight debt more expensive
at around 5.75%, as the market will demand higher premium.
Given the above market perception of risk and growth opportunity, issuing a convertible bond is
appropriate because it would allow the company to raise capital at more advantageous terms than it
would when it issues straight debt. Investors would be willing to supply funds at a lower rate if they
can have the opportunity to benefit from the upside potential of the stock. Hence, the value of
convertible bonds becomes insensitive to the risk of the company. Investors would not be materially
affected if the company becomes more volatile as a result of added risk in the future because the call
option value of the convertible bond will likewise increase. Upside returns due to increase in risk will
also accrue to investors holding a convertible bond, while having a downside protection because of the
part debt nature of the convertible.
What is the method used to calculate the coupon rate?
We first derive the implied volatility of Mogen s stock using the Black Scholes option pricing model
The implied volatility of each of the eight outstanding options on MoGen s stock was obtained using

Plot Of The Novel The Hunger Games
The plot is a very important part of a story. If there was not a plot structure; it would be a very boring
story. That is if they could even make a story at all. Every story has to have some kind of plot. A short
story might be able to have a simple plot, but a movie or novel would have to have one, or who would
pay for the movie or book. Even though, there has to be some kind of plot; that might not be the main
purpose of the book. The important part, that draws people in could also be the characters. The girl
that is reading The Hunger Games, might not be reading it because she wants to what happens next. It
could be that she loves Katniss Everdeen, and wants to keep reading about her. Of course there has to
be a plot or there would be no reason to keep reading; it just might not be the main focus. The
storyline of the reading material is called a plot. The plot has a structure containing exposition, rising
action, climax, falling action, and the resolution. Exposition is the introduction of the story. In the
short story, A Family Supper the exposition is when he is talking about the poisonous fish, Fugu, and
how his mother had died from eating it. During this time, it also talks about the conflict between him
and his parents. This is how readers know that while him and his dad are talking that there is tension
there. The conflict keeps the reader in suspense, wondering why he went to America, until they read
where his sister, later, asks about a girl

The Passage Lesson For Women By Ban Zhao
The passage Lesson for Women is a work done by Ban Zhao that goes into detail on the proper ways a
lady should act. Not only does the author explain the ways but she also goes into detail to help others
understand what it s like for a woman of that time period. When writing the author provides us with
detailed sentences and a lot of informative material. Over the course of this essay we will be breaking
down the key elements of this passage to fully understand it.
The author of this passage, Ban Zhao, seemed to be very knowledgeable and influential to young
women. Since the setting takes place in Asia, I think that the author may have been influenced to write
this piece by other woman of her country. Taking clues from the style of writing I can infer that this
piece was written in a past since it uses words and phrases that seem dated. When looking over this
writing piece I can heavily agree ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think at the time the author may of tried to target an audience of young girls. Instead of writing a
story the author cuts right to the case and explains and goes into detail about how a woman should act.
The writer of this piece most likely wants you to take something from this and either learn from it or
apply it to your life. An audience that lived in that time period may read this with a different mindset
than someone of this era.
The passage Lesson for Women was a very informative and interesting work to read about. After
reading the piece multiple times I would definitely recommend this to someone willing to learn about
different eras. I think that close reading this piece was very important since it uncovered many great
things I never thought of glancing over in the beginning. If someone had the chance to read this work
and was hesitant I would definitely tell them to go ahead and read it since I enjoyed, it very

The Pearl By John Steinbeck
The Pearl A pearl...is it worth $1,000, $100,000, or the risk of the death of your valuable family s
lives? John Steinbeck answers this question with the novella, The Pearl. Kino was an impecunious
man. He lived with his wife Juana, and his very young son Coyotito. Together, they lived buoyantly as
a family. One day, he uncovered a small yet bijou pearl that affected the whole family and even the
entire town! Will the pearl eventually bring wealth and happiness to his family, or will it make the
family feel miserable and targeted?
In the beginning of the novella, the only people that were of importance to Kino were his precious
family. Sometimes it rose to an aching chord that caught the throat, saying This is safety, this is
warmth, this is the Whole. (Steinbeck 3) He listened to the Family Song throughout the novella. With
his family he felt secure,, cared for them very deeply, and made an effort to do everything he possibly
could to please them. He was compassionate about his boat. He touched the boat tenderly as he always
did. (Steinbeck pg.15) Juana, Coyotito, and Kino were all able to be fed with the help of his boat. The
boat assisted him to overlook daily struggles. He was content in life with the things that he had. He did
not need anything else, because he had his family and his special boat.
After Kino discovered the pearl, the things that were of importance to him changed to wealth and
Coyotito s education. The author brought out, After all, 1,000

The Medici Bank Essay
Giovanni di Bicci de Medici founded the Medici bank in 1397 after splitting from his nephew to
establish a bank branch in Florence. As the new bank grew and expanded, so did the wealth and power
of the Medici family. When Cosimo il Vecchio de Medici, Giovanni s son, took over the banking
business in 1434, the increasing economic power of the Medici family allowed them to establish
themselves as effective rulers of Florence while keeping the republican system of government
nominally intact. The bank provided the Medici family a combination of economic and political power
that facilitated the stability of Medici rule. Thus, the failure of the Medici bank during the reign of
Lorenzo il Magnifico was key to the collapse of the Medici ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The political advantages of the bank also permitted the Medici family to maintain their control over
Renaissance Florence. On an international level, the bank provided the Medici family a degree of
favourable contact with the Pope and other Renaissance princes. The Medici thus relied on a system of
diplomacy in which they attempted to cultivate and maintain personal ties with individual rulers. As
historian Gene Brucker explains, This [system of] personal diplomacy was most likely to succeed
when it was reinforced by mutual interests; Medici loans to Francesco Sforza [the ruler of Milan] were
repaid when the latter sent troops to Florence to thwart a revolutionary movement. Milan was not the
only state to trade the Medici political favours for bank loans. Economic historian Raymond de
Roover, the author of the most comprehensive economic studies of the collapse of the Medici bank,
also notes that male relatives of the Pope s bankers (the Medici) received preferential treatment upon
entering the holy orders, and were rapidly made bishops, cardinals, and in some cases, popes.
Giovanni di Lorenzo de Medici, for example, received the tonsure at age seven and became a cardinal
at age fourteen because of the influence his father, Lorenzo il Magnifico, had with

Mexican American Stereotypes And Prejudice
People also acquire attitudes by socializing with other groups, like teachers, television, parents and
even religious groups. Social learning approaches to stereotyping and prejudice suggest that attitudes
and behavior toward members of minority groups are learned through the observation of parents and
other individuals (Myers, 1996). Investigators have found that differences in self monitoring influence
the link between attitudes and behavior. Individuals who are low in self monitoring strive to make
certain that their actions match their principals, values, and attitudes (Snyder, 1982).If a child that was

The Big Bang Theory And Steady State Theory
Introduction
There are two schools of thought relating to the creation of the universe and how the universe works.
The Big Bang Theory and the Steady State Theory are constantly compared using evidence collated
thus far by scientists and astrologists. By using this evidence, experts are creating a picture of how the
universe came about along with scenarios as to what happened in the beginning and what is happening
now. Through the use of this evidence, the schools of thought are increasingly favouring one of the
abovementioned theories.
Key Aspects of Big Bang Theory
The big bang theory is the main theory about understanding the universes life. This theory states that
the universe was once a hot dense ball of matter that exploded and scattered all of the galaxies and
stars we know today. But it also states that the galaxies are still moving away from the initial blast.
This theory is currently highly regarded because of its evidence supporting it such as Cosmic
Microwave Background Radiation (CMB) and Red shift.
Key Aspects of the Steady State Theory
The steady state theory is the other main theory that gives an explanation about the universes life. The
theory states that the universe always existed and that the density of the universe is unchanged, but
because the universe is always expanding, there are hydrogen bubbles that are created and then they
form into stars because they condense. But this theory is not highly reliable or accepted because it
doesn t explain

The Destruction of Identity in Vertigo, The Tenant, ...
The Destruction of Identity in Vertigo, The Tenant, Mulholland Drive
The rudimentary form of narrative storytelling lends itself towards application to an individual subject
s life story due to the correspondence of a narrative s finite bounds and the subject s mortality. Vertigo
(dir. Alfred Hitchcock, 1958), The Tenant (dir.
Roman Polanski, 1976), and Mulholland Drive (dir. David Lynch, 2001) are consistent with this idea
because their narratives follow an individual human subject from an anecdotally significant beginning
to their death. I will argue that the anthropomorphized narrative compels the subject s suicide through
the misrecognition of personal identity.
This occurrence brings about the themes of narrative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Action motivates the story and conveys it temporally. (Barthes 18
20)
The proairetic code is the only one without which a narrative cannot subsist. The motivation in
sequence establishes a dynamic plot, ceaselessly decreasing the distance from its conclusion. Aristotle
clarifies the concept of narrative motion in The Art of
Poetry.
Tragedy is essentially an imitation not of persons but of action and life, of happiness and misery. All
human happiness or misery takes the form of action; the end for which we live is a certain kind of
activity, not a quality.
Character gives us qualities, but it is in our actions what we do that we are happy or the reverse. In a
play accordingly they do not act in order to portray the characters; they include the characters for the
sake of the action. So that it is the action in it, i.e. its fable or plot, that is the end and purpose of the
tragedy; and the end is everywhere the chief thing.
(Aristotle 37)
The symbiotic relationship of characters these are created with what Barthes terms the connotative
code and action seems menacingly inseparable, however Aristotle resigns the confusion to the
narrative s impetus. He argues that the character s connotations are subordinate to and dependent on
their actions, because the actions are the exclusive

Duplicity Theory Research Paper
Duplicity theory is the idea that there are two different types of receptors processing two different
types of vision. The two types of vision is color vision and black and white. Respectively each type of
vision functions differently in different amounts of light however, the way in which it is processed by
corresponding cells and structures gives us the complexity of our visual processing system. The
structures involved are the retina in the eye, the Lateral Geniculate Nucleus (LGN), and the Visual
Cortex (VC) located in the brain; each structure allows us to view the three dimensional colored world
that surrounds us.
Visual processing starts with the eye where light is bent and refracted so that the most important cells
can capture it. Those cells are located in our retina which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This type of convergence shown is called Center Surround Antagonistic (CSA) because three
receptors converge onto one ganglion cell that can be deterred by the horizontal cells that make up the
system. Parasol ganglion cells process black and white light information. Midget ganglion cells
process colored light information. While we might think that colored light and the corresponding cells
would dominate our vision this is only due to the high concentration in our fovea where most of the
light entering our eye is directed to. Rods and parasol ganglion cells are most abundant in our retinal
surface although it seems contradicting. After the light information coming into our eye is processed
and converged through the layers in our retinal it is sent through the ganglion axon bundle that forms
our optic nerve and crosses at the optic chiasm. The translated information crosses over each other so
that sensory information from the left visual field is processed in the same area and vice versa for the
right visual

Corner Street Light Research Paper
Much of our background is actually in rock music prior to doing electronic music, said Freddy. The

amazing array of progressive music over the past years.
The two brothers were previously in a band called Corner Street Light before Arswain that was a pure

a hybrid rock band and DJ set show. They were incorporating live instrumentals while adding pre

Racism And The American Civil War
The illusion that Racism is the same creates disturbing comments when discussing current events.
Racism is defined as someone who believes their race is the superior race. The current events with the
confederate flags has brought about conversation that these people are racist. This term is correct but
misused when discussing the context for the choice of words. Society believes these individuals are
racist because displaying the flag is assumed to display hatred. These people who proudly display the
confederate flag are racist because they believe the white race is the supreme race. There is nothing
wrong with that idea and they have that right to that opinion. Our government is built on the principle
of freedom of speech and we can t apply this natural right to a one way street.
It was that in 1860 to 1865 that the American Civil War widely known as the civil war took place, to

How Gamers Are Solving Science s Biggest Problem
On September 16, 2013, There was a shooting at the Washington Navy Yard, by a gamer named Aaron
Alexis. Friends of Aaron, said he would spend hours playing violent Zombie video games. Role
playing games with simulated violence are perilous for kids.
One of the reasons for this opinion is that they make games addictive. 59% of Americans played video
games last year. In the article, How Gamers Are Solving Science s Biggest Problems it says, Games
are made to be addictive... but that shouldn t be a surprise, they were designed by scientists, to be so.
Another example is that There is 800,000 playing Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 right now. That is almost
the population of Detroit, Michigan!
Another reason is that it increases violence.

When analyzing the culture of a country, many different pieces of that country must be taken into

country. In Spain, these four aspects of their culture are vital to the country and truly define the spirit
and nature of all things Spain.
Spain is known for a few different foods. The Spanish culture for meals is actually a little different

Mostly, bad coordination in a company or organization can decrease its productivity no matter what.
However, for more clarification, I ll give an example. If a person has to market a new mobile phone,
and due to lack of good communication between the employees of different departments, some of the
features were missed and this would cause a bad advertising. The department who is responsible for
money is finance which includes budget. When a lack of coordination happens between finance and
marketing, marketers might end up with an extra which overtake the budget. Finance consider as an
operation like everything around us except the flesh and blood , so by the example I gave here you can
be able to understand how important is to coordinate between operations not only between those two
business functions. For an organization it is not an option; it is something natural. Employees just
have to work together in harmony and they must have good communication skills. (Miriana, 2014:

History And Development Of The Law Of Criminal Evidence Essay
Question #1: Read Chapter 1 History and Development of the Law of Criminal Evidence
a) The Rules of Evidence are set parameters that were adopted from British Courts through the
English Common Law and are an important part in safeguarding the rights of the accused persons in a
fair trial and also to ensure that the criminal justice system is functioning the way it should be. Now of
course at the time, the death penalty ruled and was used more in the colonies. Since evidence was not
much more than word of mouth and one person saying that someone committed the crime, and a few
artifacts that helped in the crime. This lack of physical evidence led to many people being convicted of
crimes they did not commit. Some of the falsely accused would then eventually be hung for a crime
they simply could not prove they had nothing to do with. Then came investigative roles in policing.
These specialized authorities were able to find clues and evidence that could prove some ones
innocence or guilt. Investigators were able to show there evidence in court to prevent the wrong
people from going to prison, or sending the right criminals were they belong. Lastly, a major
innovation in evidence was DNA. Authorities could find a hair or any piece of material with DNA on
it and compare that DNA with a suspect s DNA. The result of being able to prove that without a doubt
a suspect committed a crime through a hair was astounding. Another side to DNA testing was being
able to prove innocence.

Medical And Clinical Services For The National Health Service
1. Introduction:
The healthcare employees are fundamental part of medical and clinical service these days. They are
responsible for prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of patients. Therefore, it is crucial
to provide them with an appropriate training and professional development plan which will help to
improve the service offered to patients. Modernising Scientific Careers (MSC) is a UK wide initiative
which was established in 2008 by the Department of Health (DH) led by the Chief Scientific Officer
(CSO) to address education and training needs to the whole healthcare workforce in the National
Health Service (NHS) and associated bodies (MSC: The facts, 2013). Before MSC programme has

The main aim of MSC initiative was to ensure that all healthcare professionals will be able to respond
to the upcoming advances and difficulties facing health and social care system as well as deliver high
quality services to patients and continue to play a major role in healthcare future (An overview of
Modernising Scientific Careers, 2010). Therefore, this piece of work will concentrate mainly on
evaluation of MSC programme and presentation of benefits for patients, medical professionals and
their employers.
2. Aims of MSC programme and its implications:
The main aim of the MSC scheme is to deal with challenges within the healthcare science workforce
in terms of education, skill differences and planning, by providing a clear framework of education and
workforce development (MSC: The facts, 2013). Suitable education and professional development
plan is essential for scientific workforce to provide best service to the patients. It also helps to ensure
that all employees are directed into clear career pathways, education and training programmes in a
common framework for the whole of the scientific workforce at all levels of practice (An overview of
Modernising Scientific Careers, 2010). MSC has been structured in particular way so all training
needs are clearly recognised for each specialism. The structure of scientific careers was designed into
four main levels by MSC representatives as it is presented below in Table 1.

The Process Of Spatiotemporal Swarms Mining Algorithms
paragraph{Spatiotemporal Swarms Mining Algorithms}
Algorithm ref{algo:spatiotemporal} shows the process of mining short time and long time
spatiotemporal swarms. Initially, all swarms are empty indicated by Lines 3 5. Then, the trajectory
data is preprocessed to remove inconsistent and inaccurate data at Line 6 and build time to locations

upon matrix data at Lines 8 10 and mines locations based all timestamps short time spatiotemporal

After that we will mine others swarms. The necessary steps used for mining moving objects swarms
are pointed below where we consider minimum number of objects $min_{object}$ = 2.
At first, our proposed method generates 1 length tiemstamp swarm from the given database shown in
the figure ref{example1}(b) that is called short time spatiotemporal swarms. It has been shown that
the objects in location $L_3$ at timestamps $T_1$ and location $L_4$ at timestemps $T_1, T_3,
T_5$ are removed because only one object exists in the locations which is less than the minimum
number of objects $min_{object}$. In the second step, proposed algorithm begets 2 length timestamps
candidate based on previous 1 length timestamp swarms. Figure ref{example1}(c) interprets the
objects locations based on time where objects are found by the common objects at particular times of
the generated timesets. Suppose at timeset $[T_1, T_2]$ in location $L_1$ begets objects set $left
{o_1, o_2, o_3right}$ from the common objects sets between $left{o_1, o_2, o_3, o_4right}$ and
$left{o_1, o_2, o_3right}$ at time $T_1$ an $T_2$ respectively. In this way, all the cells of are
procreated. If their is no common object, then the cell value is empty. Then, we apply four efficient
pruning techniques: (i) candidate pruning that prune those candidates which maintain the Apriori
pruning principle that is any itemset which is infrequent, its superset should not be

Vermeer In Bosnia By Lawrence Weschler
In the text Vermeer in Bosnia by Lawrence Weschler, Weschler builds an argument surrounding the
need of inventing peace . Throughout the text, Weschler refers to different individuals to build up his
claim. In each part, Weschler focuses and describes each individual as a unique existence. From
murders to peacemakers, from past to present, Wechsler individualizes them from their groups in order
to look at each with an unbiased, holistic point of view, developing a clear goal for achieving peace.
To further develop his argument, Weschler focuses on Jan Vermeer, an artist who spent his entire life
dedicated to drawing an ideal, peaceful environment which was non existent during his time. Weschler

Maybe it s my lack of artistic taste, but even after the realization, I was still unable to arrive at the
same interpretation of the woman in the portrait as Weschler.
Legacy, on the other hand, is clearly defined and nearly constant even as a large span of time has
passed. Vermeer does include legacies, but with limited use, cutting off a reliable source to back up his
argument. The use of interpretations allows his argument to be disputed and possibly rejected. After
years of continuous violence and war, it is unlikely to seek out and prosecute the few that initiated the
conflict since they are most likely no longer around anymore. Even if a descendant is found,
individuality alone may not suffice for prosecution, nor will it necessarily be a step towards inventing
peace. They might as well put up a random stranger, make up a case, and claim to have prosecuted the
root of the evil. On the other hand, prosecuting a family known to have a legacy of criminal and
inhumane acts is much more likely to lead to step towards inventing peace. Though it may disregard
the individuals involved, it will truly be the end of one bloody legacy.
There are many instances where legacy trumps the interpreted individuality. In Ta Nehisi Coates
article The First White President , he brings up the idea of the white legacy aka the bloody heirloom
and uses it to describe Donald Trump s presidency. Coates develops an argument surrounding

Overview of Insider Trading
Introduction On June 4, 2003, the Securities Exchange Commission announced that it was pursuing
charges against investor Martha Stewart and stock broker Peter Bacanovic for securities fraud. The
fraud occurred on December 27, 2001 when Stewart sold stock in ImClone Systems, after receiving an
unlawful tip from Bacanovic, who at the time was working for Merrill Lynch. The SEC also accused
the two of attempting to cover up the insider actions, and of making false statements regarding the
ImClone trades to SEC investigators (SEC, 2003). Stephen Cutler, the SEC director of enforcement
said in the SEC s press release about the charges that It is fundamentally unfair for someone to have
an edge on the market just because she has a stockbroker who is willing to break the rules and give her
an illegal tip. It s worse still when the individual engaging in the insider trading is the Chairman and
CEO of a public company. This statement and the philosophy behind it is a central part in the debate
about the merits, not so much about the case against Stewart but against the prosecution of Stewart.
The SEC sought redress not only in the form of monetary penalties and prison time, but it also sought
to have Stewart removed from a position as officer of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia (SEC,
2003). The Case ImClone was a relatively small pharmaceutical firm. At the time of the offense,
ImClone was awaiting a decision from the Food and Drug Administration regarding the status of

Comparing My Darling Clementine And Once Upon A Time In...
The use of an audio mise en scène is used treated uniquely in both clips. In My Darling Clementine, as
Wyatt and Clementine are watching the festivities, and even though there is a permeating sound of feet
stomping, music playing, and happy chatter, we can still clearly hear Wyatt asking Clementine to
dance. With Once Upon a Time in the West, a layered collection of sound effects is used instead of any
dialogue or music to emphasize the silence of the train station and eventually the arrival of the train
itself.
Sound mixing is also used in both clips, but with differing effect. In My Darling Clementine, as Wyatt
and Clementine walk towards the dancing on the church foundations, we gradually hear the music and
dancing grow louder, emphasizing their relative position and the audience s awareness of their
location. In Once Upon a Time in the West, when one of Harry s men walks underneath the relatively
loud windmill, the next cut that focuses on him has the sound of the windmill muffled, which

Is Language In Interaction
One of the first things that comes into your mind when you hear the word language is communication,
isn t it? However language is much more than just communication. Language is what makes you
different from other human beings. Thanks to it, you can communicate with others, express who you
are, your ideas, feelings, thoughts, discomforts, etc. With language you can even change the world,
you can hurt a person or you can love a person. Language has many more aspects than what you might
think, some of them are: language choice, code switching, language in interaction and finally language
and gender.
The first aspect that language has is language choice in which, you can choose what kind of language

Essay on Significance of Canada s Role in the Korean War
On June 25th, 1950, North Korean forces crossed the 38th Parallel and invaded the Republic of Korea
(South Korea). This was a battle between democracy and communism, where the United Nations
supported the South Democrats while the Soviet Union in cooperation with China supported the North
Communists. Most Canadians knew nothing about Korea during the 1950s. Despite that, the Canadian
army still sent an entire brigade group to military operations there. Besides the two world wars, the

The brigade inflicted great damage to the enemy troops with minimal casualties. Ultimately, Canada s
actions earned them a United States Presidential Unit Citation and prevented the communists from
crossing through the 38th Parallel and recapturing South Korean territory once again. In July 1951,
after US President Truman fired General MacArthur for insubordination, Truman and his new military
commanders started truce negotiations at Panmunjom. Nonetheless, battle continuously ensued across
the 38th Parallel as negotiations stalled. Canada s navy played a noteworthy role in defending UN
aircraft carriers for the chance to apply political pressure against North Korea. As Canada s eight naval
ships defended the UN aircraft, a mass series of bombings took place on 13 hydroelectric generating
facilities known as the Attacks on Sui Ho Dam. The UN wanted to make the message clear that they
were willing to make this war as difficult and expensive as possible for the communists. The strikes
were successful in destroying up to 90% of North Korea s facilities and causing a blackout for 2
weeks; 23% of power was also reduced from Northeast China. Eventually, this political pressure
contributed to North Korea to agree and sign armistice. Furthermore, the ships were also responsible
for short bombardments and the eradication of North Korean trains and railways. Although the

1. The relationship between Antigone and Ismene is close because they are both sisters but at the same
time their relationship isn t that strong. One of reasons they are foils to each other is because of their
disagreement about burying the body of their brother Polyneices. Antigone already knows that she is
willing to die to let her brother rest in peace but Ismene on the other isn t on her side, instead she

3. Haemon s role in the play is to be the peacemaker, as he questions his father s decision on punishing
Antigone for putting her brother to rest. You can tell that Haemon has feelings for Antigone since he is
trying to defend her against his father but Antigone doesn t have the same feelings for him. Another
reason to why Haemon was the peacemaker in the play is because he threatened his father that if
anything happened to Antigone he was going to kill himself and his father didn t take him seriously. I
would say that the lesson is to not hold any grudges against people who are trying to make an unjust
thing into a just thing and to also not be stubborn. To also be flexible and be willing change your
decision if other people don t agree completely with you.
4. The Greeks would consider Antigone more virtuous than Creon because she is breaking a law and is
willing to die for her brother while Creon is letting the animals eat his body and scatter the bone far,
far away. The Greeks would not see Creon as virtuous because the sentence given to Antigone is
devastating, sealing her in a vault where she will forever stay until she dies. Antigone values family
more than anything else, unlike Creon who values the obedience of his people more than having
mercy on someone who is trying to make the unjust into just by defying the law of the king. Even

Analysis Of Balzac And The Little Chinese Seamstress
China is and always will be a land seen as mysterious to those with roots in Western culture. And in its
own way, Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress by Dai Sijie is what can happen when Western and
Far Eastern culture interact. Outside of the cultural revolution, headed by Mao Zedong, which makes
the whole novel possible, and was a push back against Western involvement in China, the novel
includes many other ideas of cultural interaction. However, it also prominently provides complex
emotions and changes within the characters who are followed throughout the novel. In fact, one
passage in particular reveals much character change and development in the narrator of the story (who
will simply be known as narrator for the entirety of this essay), and it occurs on the pages of 166 to
169. The passage is a daydream of the narrator s after having taken a beating by a band of hooligans
and potential suitors of the Little Seamstress. In it, readers can see the narrator develop to the same
sort of manhood as Luo: the satisfaction of changing something and reaching independence. However,
after reaching this stage, he also realizes the drawbacks to having done so, causing him to feel remorse
for his actions. This is achieved by the narrator s expression of hidden desires he developed over time
and what lustful feelings and desperation accompany them. The first manner in which the
development of the narrator into a man is seen through his deep desires and his emotions regarding
them. The first manner in which he indicates his discomfort with the whole night comes in a
description of physical pain, as he uses diction that would suggest discomfort, such as thrashing (Sijie
166) about during the night or his bed being strewn with needles (Sijie 166). While the narrator
attributes this to his ear, his continued focus on his daydream about the Seamstress for the latter half
of the paragraph and nearly the entirety of the remainder of the passage indicates that the discomfort
comes from more than simply his injured ear, and can even be thought to suggest that he is
experiencing discomfort with the moral gray area in which he finds himself during and after his
daydream. Leading into this visible moral gray area is his

Example Of Gender Role Socialization
During the first part of the excerpt, the interviewer asks George what his life was like growing up.
George begins by explaining he had a normal family life and learned how to cook from imitated his

And, my dad, it s kind of funny, I think he thought it wasn t good for a little boy to be making cookies
in the kitchen, so because he knew I liked to cook, he would take me outside with him and teach me

socialization. Gender role socialization involves the concept of learning behaviors and attitudes that
fall in the category of the individual s sex. George then goes on to tell the interviewer why he didn t
agree with his high school s involvement in social channeling. The concept of social channeling is the
process of socialization where children are prepared and lead to certain positions based on their social
class. An example where George expresses this is when he states, They would put students into

concept of tracking. The concept of tracking is how placing someone in a certain track can either

that struggles with alcohol because he grew up witnessing alcohol addiction in the family. Mike s
father struggled with alcohol addiction as well as his grandpa back in the day when receiving 7 total

There are 5 steps I recommend for Mike to continue his stoppage with alcohol. First, identify your
reasons. Find your why of why you want to change and continue the progress of having a clean life.
For Mike, baseball, school, and family is something he is passionate about so he will base his life
around those three whys and make them priorities. Second, make a plan. Have a vision of what you
want and go get it. Have a reminder around you at all times to make sure you stay motivated in your
progress. Mike decided to get a Rocky poster put above his bed at school to wake up to, and remind
him to conquer the day. Third, share your plan with others. People who hide their problems from
people are more likely to fall in those same patterns again. Take pride in your change, and share with
others your mission and how you are going to improve your life. Mike wanted to change his physical
body as a replacement of drinking, so he replaced his beer gut with ten pounds of muscle. Fourth,
evaluate your progress. Each week evaluate your short team goals and stay on tract. Short term
success leads to long term success. You can make a leap of faith but it won t happen in one night.
Mike is constantly reminding himself to Trust the Process. Learn from the pass and have faith for the
future. Lastly, continue your new behaviors. After trying this plan for 30 days, try it for another 30
days. Like anything else in life, it is not easy to change behavior, even when it might be in your best
interest. Mike is sticking to his main priorities which are baseball, school, and family which are
helping him stay on tract while his grades are already

Mount Everest Essay
Would you climb both dangerous sides of Mt. Everest at the age of 60? At the age of 60, it starts to get
harder to do things very active or sporty. You would also start to get tired as you get older, so do you
think you can do it? Well, Dr. Julio Bird did it. Dr. Julio Bird, one of the bravest souls to climb both
sides of Mount Everest at 60 years old.
Dr. Julio Bird, 60,has climbed both sides of Mount Everest. At 60 years old, Bird becoming the oldest
to climb both sides of Mt. Everest after reaching the peak() In 2002, Bird reached the top of Mount
Everest from the south side for the first time at the age of 52(). Dr. Julio Bird trained himself to adapt
to the weathers on Mount Everest. He climbed Mount everest on the north side which only had about
30% 50% of the people who tried get to the top from the north side and Bird was one of them.() It was
amazing that Bird was one of the ones to make it from the north side of Mt. Everest He took oxygen,
his phone, and his other supplies that would help him to survive. He said We were totally exhausted.

It is really scary climbing Mount Everest when thinking of it because it is the highest peak in the
world, so I am not sure how Dr. Julio Bird climbed both sides especially when he climbed the
Northern side which is way more dangerous than the Southern side. In may of 2007, Bird challenged
Mount Everest s Northern side but didn t have enough oxygen to reach the top and go back down
safely.() That was probably scary when that happens because you wouldn t really know anything about
what would happen On the way up the mountain, Bird met up with the young Jordan Romeo and took
a picture with him.() Dr. Bird says he feels lucky to have had a great window, a chance where they
were able to summit the mountain and hit about an half hour at the

Essay on Shakespeare Authorship Controversy
Shakespeare, the man who wrote 37 plays and more than a hundred sonnets, is known throughout the
world. Many people consider him one of the best English playwrights of our time, others say that he
was a genius. William Shakspere was born in Stratford upon Avon in 1564 and died in 1616 at the age
of 52. In the mid 19th century, questions had arisen about the Shakespeare authorship controversy, and
many scholars wondered whether Shakspere, the man from Stratford, wrote the plays. Ralph W.
Emerson once said, ?I can not ?marry? Shakspere?s life to Shakespeare?s work? (qtd. in Bethell 48).
In many ways, he was right, some things just did not link up. Many people started noticing this thus
two opposing sides were formed. Those who believed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Others also say that there was little evidence left behind about his childhood and later his career as a
playwright and poet in London (Goode 9 10). Many scholars that studied Shakespeare?s plays found
evidence that whoever wrote the plays must have been the best educated man of his time with
knowledge on horsemanship, biology, falconry, astronomy, law, botany, several languages like Italian,
French, and Latin, and many other subjects that a common man without much formal education would
not poses (Lardner 7). Furthermore, experts say that whoever wrote Shakespeare?s sonnets seemed to
be high class. In addition, many of the plays included a political element. How did Shakspere get
extremely detailed information about Queen Elizabeth?s court when the queen?s inner circle was
guarded carefully (Valeo 2). Another reason against Shakspere is that he would have to have been to
Italy since many of his plays are set there, but there are no records of his travels. Foreign travel was
also expensive and often dangerous back in those days (Valeo 2). Could a glove maker?s son afford
such an expensive trip? Many agree that there was a man from Stratford by the name of Shakspere,
but they say that he had nothing to do with the plays. Others say that he lent his name to be used on
the 37 plays. Ogburn describes him as ?a small town, avaricious businessman more interested in
money than

Competitive Market Socialism
The main topic throughout this paper is that competitive markets are necessary, but full ownership is
not necessary for an efficient market. Companies can get along fine, as long as everyone takes part.
Full ownership by one person is not necessary, because having more people can be more successful. It
states in the article that the claim has not yet been disproved by economics or history. Bardhan and
Roemer believe is it the failure of political right and the competitive market that has led to the
downfall of socialism. Some proposals for market socialism has failed in East European countries.
Although it has seemed to fail in some countries it has not been fully tried. When it comes to the top
decisions of a company it is in the hands of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This mainly focuses on banks. The shares for a large firm can be sold to a bank. The main bank
controls a lot of the economy because it is who everyone goes to for help. A corporate group should
not be large and it should not be small for the risk of diversification. Bank centric is another important
part of this article. It had some problems and one is the possibility of collusion and industrial
concentration. The end of the article discusses talks about ways to minimize problems in our proposed
system. Some objections are talked about at the end when it comes to market socialism. I do agree
with companies should not be too small, but not too big either. Small companies do not do as well as
larger companies. Larger companies overpower smaller companies though. A company should be
medium sized and should allow everyone to help and give opinions. The smaller the company the
more likely for it to fail. Depending on the city a small company might not last long if it is surrounded
by larger corporate companies. Larger companies are taking over the world. Smaller companies do not
even have the chance to grow or become popular, because bigger companies have taken

Background And Related Work Of Marine Algae Species
Chapter 2: Background and Related Work
Methylation analysis plays an important role in bioinformatics area. It modifies the functions of DNA
and leads to alter the functions of genes in cells. These changes are unidirectional. Hence, doing
research on methylation analysis potentially explain that how complex organisms characterized by the
surprisingly low number of genes (Sette, Ladomery, Ghigna, 2013). Marine algae species were chosen
to do the research, because they are ecologically important and have a long history of being used as
food, medicines and industrial applications. (Raja, Vipin, Aiyappan, 2013) They have been recognized
as one of the best species to explain biological diversity. Approaches used in the research may be
extended to analyze other marine organisms as well, since scientists have found some organisms in
ocean that are compounded by microalgae. (El Gamal, 2010).
Another importance of DNA methylation is production of chromatin structure, which leads to growth
of a single cell in an uncontrolled level to a complex multicellular organism. It also causes the
development of cancer. According to new studies, the genes with a promoter region which has higher
ratio of methylated cytosine are transcriptionally silent. Aberrant DNA methylation increases the rate
of malignancy. Mainly there are two types of methylation: hyper methylation which control the
activation of genes, and hypo methylation leads to the development of cancer through various
processes.

Foster Care And Adoption Is More Common Than Not
Children roam around in schools, at work, on the playground, in the malls, and anywhere else a child
would like to be. Young children are often accompanied by an adult, of which one would assume to be
their parents or primary caregivers. In 2007 forty eight million americans had considered adoption.
Foster care has a goal, it is to help children in need be safe for the time being and try to reunited these
children with their biological parents. Believe it or not foster care and adoption is more common than
not. Many myths go around making children dread the system when in all reality the system is a
support system there to help those children in need. Once the child is in a placement with a foster
family, their ultimate goal is to provide the child in a safe, loving, nurturing environment until then
can be reunified with their parents. These children get use to their foster family, some even grow
rather fond of them and are attached, is it right to take away the only family they have ever really truly
known? This can cause emotional arousal and distress on the child and the foster family.
There are many people in the world who for some reason do have have the ability to have children.
This does not mean they should not be a parent or that they cannot be a parent. Many of these families
consider being foster parents or even adopting children so they can experience parenthood. Not
everyone is meant to be a foster parents, although it is relatively easy to become a foster

Suicide in the Trenches- Analysis
Suicide In The Trenches
In my analysis, I will demonstrate how Siegfred Sassoon has used many different language techniques
to show his perspective on the true meaning of war.
For example, the poet has used simplistic diction that creates an image of the destruction of a simple
soldier boy . At first we see him whistling, this then degrades to depression which lead him to
committing suicide. Siegfred Sassoon concludes his poem with anger and a powerful message. Sneak
home and pray you ll never know emphasizes that those who aren t soldiers have to sneak home and
pray to show their empathy for the soldiers. In the last line it implies the fact that the crowd doesn t
have to go through the hell where youth and laughter go . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
the rhyme of brain and again at line eight tries to form a connection that although a young boy was
convinced to join the war and fought tremendously for his country and himself. However, in the end,
he was pushed to his limit and no one spoke of him again . This shows how cruel and selfish war is.
The boy had sacrificed his childhood fun, laughter and playful life in for nothing to return. This is
effective because it makes the reader think about why is there war and why are there innocent lives at
risk which creates the bitter mood.
The diction used in the poem sends the reader a clear message about war. In the last stanza, the word
kindling is being used to describe the eyes of the smug faced crowds . Kindling is used to describe the
facial description which shows that it is a very shallow expression feature that expresses the lack of
empathy shown to the young men. However, Siegfried tries to show with a sarcastic tone that they
think war is a glorious thing; they feel proud of the children risking their lives with nothing in return
and seem to understand and appreciate what they are doing. But in reality the public cannot imagine
what these children are going through. This is how the word kindling reveals a shallow side of
everyone s personality.
In my personal opinion, the last stanza is the strongest and most impactful stanza. While the previous
two stanzas shows the transformation of the boy

The Bird And The Happiest Bird
The Crow and the Peacock
Once there was a crow, who lived a happy and satisfied life in his village. One day the crow was
flying along when he saw a beautiful white swan. Seeing the swan he thought, This swan is so bright
and I am so dark. He must be the happiest bird in the world When the crow said this to the swan, the
swan said, I used to think that I was the happiest bird too until I saw a parrot. The parrot has 2 colors
while I just have one. So he must be the happiest bird. Taking the swan s advice the crow went and
started looking for a parrot. After a few days of looking the crow finally found him. The crow told the
parrot about what the swan had told him. The parrot responded by saying, I used to think that I was
the happiest bird in the world as well until I saw a peacock. I just have 2 colors, whereas, the peacock
has multiple colors, so it must be the happiest bird. As a result of listening to the swan s and the parrot
s thoughts the crow decided to find out if the peacock was truly the happiest bird. Immediately the
crow set of to find a peacock. He searched for days and nights looking for the peacock. There were
huge crowds gathering around the peacock s cage. At first the crow thought that the crowds would go
away, but the longer waited he realized that the crowds would never end. The crow tried getting
through the crowd but it was too thick. Finnally, the crowd died down and the crow could go up to the
peacock and told him what the parrot and the swan

Summary of COSO and Barings Bank
1. The Control Environment establishes the tone of a company and influences the control awareness of
the employees. It is the foundation for all the other internal control components and provides
discipline and structure for the entire business operation (Bagranoff, Simkin, and Strand 2005, 110).
2. The purpose of Risk Assessment is to identify organizational risks, analyze their potential in terms
of costs and likelihood of occurrence, and install those controls whose projected benefits outweigh
their costs (Bagranoff, Simkin, and Strand 2005, 111).
3. Control Activities are the policies and procedures that an organization develops to help protect the

Superwoman And Lady
Women have had to deal with oppression for centuries. Not being able to speak freely or having the
same privileges as men can take a toll. Even in this day and age, women still face these issues, and for
years, female poets and music artists have used their creativity to express the emotions they keep
bottled up. The writer of the poem Lady, Lady , Anne Spencer, was alive during a time where women
did not have the social status that they possess today. She was an African American poet, and
important figure, during the Harlem Renaissance. Spencer s poems focused mostly on equality, nature,
and women. Both the poem, Lady, Lady and the song Superwoman by Alicia Keys, an African
American song writer, imply resiliency and strength in women who have had to deal with pressures
from the world around them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The narrator speaks of the subject of the poem as having bourne so long the yoke of men. This Lady ,
whom the narrator is referring to, is implied to have had to deal with overwhelmingly harsh men who
have no regard for women s rights. The poet s attitude towards the woman in the poem seems to be
sympathetic because the woman lived a lifetime of unequal treatment and false perceptions because of
her gender, a similar situation for the majority of women in that time. In the song Superwoman , Alicia
Keys writes that she hangs [her] head in sorrow [at the] state of humanity. What the songwriter means
by this is that she is saddened by the situations that women are put through and her lyrics are clearly
more literal regarding her position on the issue of gender equality. The state of humanity is the issue
not being dealt with appropriately, and that society has not changed much concerning the social
superiority of men over women. Although circumstances of the characters in the song and poem are
different, they are both fed up with a male dominated

There are many similarities and differences between the setting, characters, and culture of Greek and West African creation stories. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is because of the nature of Mogen s business, wherein most of the company s assets are intangibles, which is typical of a risky company. This makes issuance of straight debt more expensive at around 5.75%, as the market will demand higher premium. Given the above market perception of risk and growth opportunity, issuing a convertible bond is appropriate because it would allow the company to raise capital at more advantageous terms than it would when it issues straight debt. Investors would be willing to supply funds at a lower rate if they can have the opportunity to benefit from the upside potential of the stock. Hence, the value of convertible bonds becomes insensitive to the risk of the company. Investors would not be materially affected if the company becomes more volatile as a result of added risk in the future because the call option value of the convertible bond will likewise increase. Upside returns due to increase in risk will also accrue to investors holding a convertible bond, while having a downside protection because of the part debt nature of the convertible. What is the method used to calculate the coupon rate? • 7. Plot Of The Novel The Hunger Games The plot is a very important part of a story. If there was not a plot structure; it would be a very boring story. That is if they could even make a story at all. Every story has to have some kind of plot. A short story might be able to have a simple plot, but a movie or novel would have to have one, or who would pay for the movie or book. Even though, there has to be some kind of plot; that might not be the main purpose of the book. The important part, that draws people in could also be the characters. The girl that is reading The Hunger Games, might not be reading it because she wants to what happens next. It could be that she loves Katniss Everdeen, and wants to keep reading about her. Of course there has to be a plot or there would be no reason to keep reading; it just might not be the main focus. The storyline of the reading material is called a plot. The plot has a structure containing exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and the resolution. Exposition is the introduction of the story. In the short story, A Family Supper the exposition is when he is talking about the poisonous fish, Fugu, and how his mother had died from eating it. During this time, it also talks about the conflict between him and his parents. This is how readers know that while him and his dad are talking that there is tension there. • 9. The Pearl By John Steinbeck The Pearl A pearl...is it worth $1,000, $100,000, or the risk of the death of your valuable family s lives? John Steinbeck answers this question with the novella, The Pearl. Kino was an impecunious man. He lived with his wife Juana, and his very young son Coyotito. Together, they lived buoyantly as a family. One day, he uncovered a small yet bijou pearl that affected the whole family and even the entire town! Will the pearl eventually bring wealth and happiness to his family, or will it make the family feel miserable and targeted? In the beginning of the novella, the only people that were of importance to Kino were his precious family. Sometimes it rose to an aching chord that caught the throat, saying This is safety, this is warmth, this is the Whole. (Steinbeck 3) He listened to the Family Song throughout the novella. With his family he felt secure,, cared for them very deeply, and made an effort to do everything he possibly could to please them. He was compassionate about his boat. He touched the boat tenderly as he always did. (Steinbeck pg.15) Juana, Coyotito, and Kino were all able to be fed with the help of his boat. The boat assisted him to overlook daily struggles. He was content in life with the things that he had. He did not need anything else, because he had his family and his special boat. After Kino discovered the pearl, the things that were of importance to him changed to wealth and Coyotito s education. The author brought out, After all, 1,000 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As the new bank grew and expanded, so did the wealth and power of the Medici family. When Cosimo il Vecchio de Medici, Giovanni s son, took over the banking business in 1434, the increasing economic power of the Medici family allowed them to establish themselves as effective rulers of Florence while keeping the republican system of government nominally intact. The political advantages of the bank also permitted the Medici family to maintain their control over Renaissance Florence. On an international level, the bank provided the Medici family a degree of favourable contact with the Pope and other Renaissance princes. As historian Gene Brucker explains, This [system of] personal diplomacy was most likely to succeed when it was reinforced by mutual interests; Medici loans to Francesco Sforza [the ruler of Milan] were repaid when the latter sent troops to Florence to thwart a revolutionary movement. Milan was not the only state to trade the Medici political favours for bank loans. Economic historian Raymond de Roover, the author of the most comprehensive economic studies of the collapse of the Medici bank, also notes that male relatives of the Pope s bankers (the Medici) received preferential treatment upon entering the holy orders, and were rapidly made bishops, cardinals, and in some cases, popes. • 13. The Big Bang Theory And Steady State Theory Introduction There are two schools of thought relating to the creation of the universe and how the universe works. The Big Bang Theory and the Steady State Theory are constantly compared using evidence collated thus far by scientists and astrologists. By using this evidence, experts are creating a picture of how the universe came about along with scenarios as to what happened in the beginning and what is happening now. Through the use of this evidence, the schools of thought are increasingly favouring one of the abovementioned theories. Key Aspects of Big Bang Theory The big bang theory is the main theory about understanding the universes life. This theory states that the universe was once a hot dense ball of matter that exploded and scattered all of the galaxies and stars we know today. But it also states that the galaxies are still moving away from the initial blast. This theory is currently highly regarded because of its evidence supporting it such as Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation (CMB) and Red shift. Key Aspects of the Steady State Theory The steady state theory is the other main theory that gives an explanation about the universes life. The theory states that the universe always existed and that the density of the universe is unchanged, but because the universe is always expanding, there are hydrogen bubbles that are created and then they form into stars because they condense. The Destruction of Identity in Vertigo, The Tenant, Mulholland Drive The rudimentary form of narrative storytelling lends itself towards application to an individual subject s life story due to the correspondence of a narrative s finite bounds and the subject s mortality. Vertigo (dir. Alfred Hitchcock, 1958), The Tenant (dir. Roman Polanski, 1976), and Mulholland Drive (dir. David Lynch, 2001) are consistent with this idea because their narratives follow an individual human subject from an anecdotally significant beginning to their death. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Action motivates the story and conveys it temporally. (Barthes 18 20) The proairetic code is the only one without which a narrative cannot subsist. The motivation in sequence establishes a dynamic plot, ceaselessly decreasing the distance from its conclusion. Aristotle clarifies the concept of narrative motion in The Art of Poetry. Tragedy is essentially an imitation not of persons but of action and life, of happiness and misery. All human happiness or misery takes the form of action; the end for which we live is a certain kind of activity, not a quality. Character gives us qualities, but it is in our actions what we do that we are happy or the reverse. In a play accordingly they do not act in order to portray the characters; they include the characters for the sake of the action. So that it is the action in it, i.e. its fable or plot, that is the end and purpose of the tragedy; and the end is everywhere the chief thing. (Aristotle 37) The symbiotic relationship of characters these are created with what Barthes terms the connotative code and action seems menacingly inseparable, however Aristotle resigns the confusion to the narrative s impetus. He argues that the character s connotations are subordinate to and dependent on their actions, because the actions are the exclusive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The two types of vision is color vision and black and white. Respectively each type of vision functions differently in different amounts of light however, the way in which it is processed by corresponding cells and structures gives us the complexity of our visual processing system. The structures involved are the retina in the eye, the Lateral Geniculate Nucleus (LGN), and the Visual Cortex (VC) located in the brain; each structure allows us to view the three dimensional colored world that surrounds us. • 26. History And Development Of The Law Of Criminal Evidence Essay Question #1: Read Chapter 1 History and Development of the Law of Criminal Evidence a) The Rules of Evidence are set parameters that were adopted from British Courts through the English Common Law and are an important part in safeguarding the rights of the accused persons in a fair trial and also to ensure that the criminal justice system is functioning the way it should be. Now of course at the time, the death penalty ruled and was used more in the colonies. Since evidence was not much more than word of mouth and one person saying that someone committed the crime, and a few artifacts that helped in the crime. This lack of physical evidence led to many people being convicted of crimes they did not commit. Some of the falsely accused would then eventually be hung for a crime they simply could not prove they had nothing to do with. Then came investigative roles in policing. These specialized authorities were able to find clues and evidence that could prove some ones innocence or guilt. Investigators were able to show there evidence in court to prevent the wrong people from going to prison, or sending the right criminals were they belong. Lastly, a major innovation in evidence was DNA. Authorities could find a hair or any piece of material with DNA on it and compare that DNA with a suspect s DNA. The result of being able to prove that without a doubt a suspect committed a crime through a hair was astounding. Another side to DNA testing was being able to prove innocence. ... At first, our proposed method generates 1 length tiemstamp swarm from the given database shown in the figure ref{example1}(b) that is called short time spatiotemporal swarms. It has been shown that the objects in location $L_3$ at timestamps $T_1$ and location $L_4$ at timestemps $T_1, T_3, T_5$ are removed because only one object exists in the locations which is less than the minimum number of objects $min_{object}$. From murders to peacemakers, from past to present, Wechsler individualizes them from their groups in order to look at each with an unbiased, holistic point of view, developing a clear goal for achieving peace. Vermeer does include legacies, but with limited use, cutting off a reliable source to back up his argument. The use of interpretations allows his argument to be disputed and possibly rejected. After years of continuous violence and war, it is unlikely to seek out and prosecute the few that initiated the conflict since they are most likely no longer around anymore. Even if a descendant is found, individuality alone may not suffice for prosecution, nor will it necessarily be a step towards inventing peace. They might as well put up a random stranger, make up a case, and claim to have prosecuted the root of the evil. On the other hand, prosecuting a family known to have a legacy of criminal and inhumane acts is much more likely to lead to step towards inventing peace. Overview of Insider Trading Introduction On June 4, 2003, the Securities Exchange Commission announced that it was pursuing charges against investor Martha Stewart and stock broker Peter Bacanovic for securities fraud. The fraud occurred on December 27, 2001 when Stewart sold stock in ImClone Systems, after receiving an unlawful tip from Bacanovic, who at the time was working for Merrill Lynch. The SEC also accused the two of attempting to cover up the insider actions, and of making false statements regarding the ImClone trades to SEC investigators (SEC, 2003). Stephen Cutler, the SEC director of enforcement said in the SEC s press release about the charges that It is fundamentally unfair for someone to have an edge on the market just because she has a stockbroker who is willing to break the rules and give her an illegal tip. It s worse still when the individual engaging in the insider trading is the Chairman and CEO of a public company. This statement and the philosophy behind it is a central part in the debate about the merits, not so much about the case against Stewart but against the prosecution of Stewart. The SEC sought redress not only in the form of monetary penalties and prison time, but it also sought to have Stewart removed from a position as officer of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia (SEC, 2003). • 38. Analysis Of Balzac And The Little Chinese Seamstress China is and always will be a land seen as mysterious to those with roots in Western culture. And in its own way, Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress by Dai Sijie is what can happen when Western and Far Eastern culture interact. Outside of the cultural revolution, headed by Mao Zedong, which makes the whole novel possible, and was a push back against Western involvement in China, the novel includes many other ideas of cultural interaction. However, it also prominently provides complex emotions and changes within the characters who are followed throughout the novel. In fact, one passage in particular reveals much character change and development in the narrator of the story (who will simply be known as narrator for the entirety of this essay), and it occurs on the pages of 166 to 169. The passage is a daydream of the narrator s after having taken a beating by a band of hooligans and potential suitors of the Little Seamstress. In it, readers can see the narrator develop to the same sort of manhood as Luo: the satisfaction of changing something and reaching independence. However, after reaching this stage, he also realizes the drawbacks to having done so, causing him to feel remorse for his actions. This is achieved by the narrator s expression of hidden desires he developed over time and what lustful feelings and desperation accompany them. The first manner in which the development of the narrator into a man is seen through his deep desires and his emotions regarding them. The first manner in which he indicates his discomfort with the whole night comes in a description of physical pain, as he uses diction that would suggest discomfort, such as thrashing (Sijie 166) about during the night or his bed being strewn with needles (Sijie 166). While the narrator attributes this to his ear, his continued focus on his daydream about the Seamstress for the latter half of the paragraph and nearly the entirety of the remainder of the passage indicates that the discomfort comes from more than simply his injured ear, and can even be thought to suggest that he is experiencing discomfort with the moral gray area in which he finds himself during and after his daydream. • 43. Essay on Shakespeare Authorship Controversy Shakespeare, the man who wrote 37 plays and more than a hundred sonnets, is known throughout the world. Many people consider him one of the best English playwrights of our time, others say that he was a genius. William Shakspere was born in Stratford upon Avon in 1564 and died in 1616 at the age of 52. In the mid 19th century, questions had arisen about the Shakespeare authorship controversy, and many scholars wondered whether Shakspere, the man from Stratford, wrote the plays. Ralph W. Emerson once said, ?I can not ?marry? Shakspere?s life to Shakespeare?s work? (qtd. in Bethell 48). In many ways, he was right, some things just did not link up. Many people started noticing this thus two opposing sides were formed. Those who believed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Others also say that there was little evidence left behind about his childhood and later his career as a playwright and poet in London (Goode 9 10). Many scholars that studied Shakespeare?s plays found evidence that whoever wrote the plays must have been the best educated man of his time with knowledge on horsemanship, biology, falconry, astronomy, law, botany, several languages like Italian, French, and Latin, and many other subjects that a common man without much formal education would not poses (Lardner 7). Furthermore, experts say that whoever wrote Shakespeare?s sonnets seemed to be high class. In addition, many of the plays included a political element. How did Shakspere get extremely detailed information about Queen Elizabeth?s court when the queen?s inner circle was guarded carefully (Valeo 2). Another reason against Shakspere is that he would have to have been to Italy since many of his plays are set there, but there are no records of his travels. Foreign travel was also expensive and often dangerous back in those days (Valeo 2). Could a glove maker?s son afford such an expensive trip? Many agree that there was a man from Stratford by the name of Shakspere, but they say that he had nothing to do with the plays. Others say that he lent his name to be used on the 37 plays. • 44. Competitive Market Socialism The main topic throughout this paper is that competitive markets are necessary, but full ownership is not necessary for an efficient market. Companies can get along fine, as long as everyone takes part. Full ownership by one person is not necessary, because having more people can be more successful. It states in the article that the claim has not yet been disproved by economics or history. Bardhan and Roemer believe is it the failure of political right and the competitive market that has led to the downfall of socialism. Some proposals for market socialism has failed in East European countries. Although it has seemed to fail in some countries it has not been fully tried. The main bank controls a lot of the economy because it is who everyone goes to for help. A corporate group should not be large and it should not be small for the risk of diversification. Bank centric is another important part of this article. It had some problems and one is the possibility of collusion and industrial concentration. The end of the article discusses talks about ways to minimize problems in our proposed system. Some objections are talked about at the end when it comes to market socialism. I do agree with companies should not be too small, but not too big either. Small companies do not do as well as larger companies. Larger companies overpower smaller companies though. A company should be medium sized and should allow everyone to help and give opinions. The smaller the company the more likely for it to fail. Depending on the city a small company might not last long if it is surrounded by larger corporate companies. Larger companies are taking over the world. • 45. Background And Related Work Of Marine Algae Species Chapter 2: Background and Related Work Methylation analysis plays an important role in bioinformatics area. It modifies the functions of DNA and leads to alter the functions of genes in cells. These changes are unidirectional. Hence, doing research on methylation analysis potentially explain that how complex organisms characterized by the surprisingly low number of genes (Sette, Ladomery, Ghigna, 2013). Marine algae species were chosen to do the research, because they are ecologically important and have a long history of being used as food, medicines and industrial applications. (Raja, Vipin, Aiyappan, 2013) They have been recognized as one of the best species to explain biological diversity. Approaches used in the research may be extended to analyze other marine organisms as well, since scientists have found some organisms in ocean that are compounded by microalgae. (El Gamal, 2010). Another importance of DNA methylation is production of chromatin structure, which leads to growth of a single cell in an uncontrolled level to a complex multicellular organism. It also causes the development of cancer. According to new studies, the genes with a promoter region which has higher ratio of methylated cytosine are transcriptionally silent. Aberrant DNA methylation increases the rate of malignancy. Mainly there are two types of methylation: hyper methylation which control the activation of genes, and hypo methylation leads to the development of cancer through various processes. ... • 46. Foster Care And Adoption Is More Common Than Not Children roam around in schools, at work, on the playground, in the malls, and anywhere else a child would like to be. Young children are often accompanied by an adult, of which one would assume to be their parents or primary caregivers. In 2007 forty eight million americans had considered adoption. Foster care has a goal, it is to help children in need be safe for the time being and try to reunited these children with their biological parents. Many myths go around making children dread the system when in all reality the system is a support system there to help those children in need. Once the child is in a placement with a foster family, their ultimate goal is to provide the child in a safe, loving, nurturing environment until then can be reunified with their parents. These children get use to their foster family, some even grow rather fond of them and are attached, is it right to take away the only family they have ever really truly known? This can cause emotional arousal and distress on the child and the foster family. There are many people in the world who for some reason do have have the ability to have children. • 47. Suicide in the Trenches- Analysis Suicide In The Trenches In my analysis, I will demonstrate how Siegfred Sassoon has used many different language techniques to show his perspective on the true meaning of war. For example, the poet has used simplistic diction that creates an image of the destruction of a simple soldier boy . At first we see him whistling, this then degrades to depression which lead him to committing suicide. Siegfred Sassoon concludes his poem with anger and a powerful message. Sneak home and pray you ll never know emphasizes that those who aren t soldiers have to sneak home and pray to show their empathy for the soldiers. In the last line it implies the fact that the crowd doesn t have to go through the hell where youth and laughter go . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... the rhyme of brain and again at line eight tries to form a connection that although a young boy was convinced to join the war and fought tremendously for his country and himself. However, in the end, he was pushed to his limit and no one spoke of him again . This shows how cruel and selfish war is. The boy had sacrificed his childhood fun, laughter and playful life in for nothing to return. This is effective because it makes the reader think about why is there war and why are there innocent lives at risk which creates the bitter mood. The diction used in the poem sends the reader a clear message about war. In the last stanza, the word kindling is being used to describe the eyes of the smug faced crowds . Kindling is used to describe the facial description which shows that it is a very shallow expression feature that expresses the lack of empathy shown to the young men. However, Siegfried tries to show with a sarcastic tone that they think war is a glorious thing; they feel proud of the children risking their lives with nothing in return and seem to understand and appreciate what they are doing. But in reality the public cannot imagine what these children are going through. This is how the word kindling reveals a shallow side of everyone s personality. In my personal opinion, the last stanza is the strongest and most impactful stanza. While the previous two stanzas shows the transformation of the boy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 51. Superwoman And Lady Women have had to deal with oppression for centuries. Not being able to speak freely or having the same privileges as men can take a toll. Even in this day and age, women still face these issues, and for years, female poets and music artists have used their creativity to express the emotions they keep bottled up. The writer of the poem Lady, Lady , Anne Spencer, was alive during a time where women did not have the social status that they possess today. She was an African American poet, and important figure, during the Harlem Renaissance. Spencer s poems focused mostly on equality, nature, and women. Both the poem, Lady, Lady and the song Superwoman by Alicia Keys, an African American song writer, imply resiliency and strength in women who have had to deal with pressures from the world around them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The narrator speaks of the subject of the poem as having bourne so long the yoke of men. This Lady , whom the narrator is referring to, is implied to have had to deal with overwhelmingly harsh men who have no regard for women s rights. The poet s attitude towards the woman in the poem seems to be sympathetic because the woman lived a lifetime of unequal treatment and false perceptions because of her gender, a similar situation for the majority of women in that time. In the song Superwoman , Alicia Keys writes that she hangs [her] head in sorrow [at the] state of humanity. What the songwriter means by this is that she is saddened by the situations that women are put through and her lyrics are clearly more literal regarding her position on the issue of gender equality. The state of humanity is the issue not being dealt with appropriately, and that society has not changed much concerning the social superiority of men over women. Although circumstances of the characters in the song and poem are different, they are both fed up with a male dominated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
