Similarities Between 400 And 800 AD
Between the period stretching from 400 to 800 AD, Celtic speaking regions throughout Britain and
Ireland saw dramatic developments, both politically and linguistically, some of which drew
similarities from one another, however, there are others which differed significantly. The country of
Ireland is built on four certain provinces, consisting of Ulaid, Leinster, Munster and Connacht. All
of which underwent political and linguistic developments throughout this four hundred year period.
Developments can be seen in a variety of mediums highlighted through historical texts, poetry,
religion, material culture and place names.

Historical text can be illustrated in many different forms such as annals, and early Irish laws.
Annals, along with early Irish laws, provide us with a primary source of information illustrating
important events which occurred during the period. Annals in the kingdom of Ulaid up until the
middle of the ninth century were written predominantly in the Latin language. A minimal amount
of Irish words also appeared in these Annals, with passing centuries the number of written Irish
included in Annals increased steadily until it became the dominant language written throughout
Annals. The evolving language, of the annals documented by the kingdom of Ulaid throughout the
centuries, provide a snippet into the developing politics of Ireland, throughout 400 and 800 A.D.
Key events documented by the kingdom of Ulster provide a basis of context, as to what was
deemed as important to Ireland s society during the period between 400 and 800 A.D, thus in turn,
gives insight to the political developments which occurred, such as the beginning of reigns, deaths
and battles, Theodosius Bologna[...]he began his reign in AD 425 and ruled 27

Literary Scholarship And Criticism Of Shakespeare s The...
Shakespeare critic and Harvard literature professor, Harold Bloom, asserts that Shakespeare is the
metaphorical inventor of man. Bloom writes:
The plays remain the outward limit of human achievement: aesthetically, cognitively, in certain
ways morally, even spiritually. They abide beyond the end of the mind s reach, we cannot catch up
to them. Shakespeare will go on explaining us, in part because, he invented us (pp. 19 20).
Bloom s audacious evaluation of Shakespeare has been echoed throughout the canon of literary
scholarship and criticism. In fact, Bloom s invention thesis, found in Shakespeare: The Invention of
the Human, represents a culmination of centuries of teaching and reflection upon the famous
English poet s craft. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hamlet: The Prince of Denmark is a hallmark example of Shakespeare s contemplation of social
tolerance and equity in the exploration of human sociology. In this play, we see the malignant
ambition of newly throned King Claudius, the questionable decision making of Queen Gertrude,
and the emotionally preying and encompassing force of murdered King Hamlet s ghost,
construct the grounds for contemplation of human drama; this contemplation is essentially
distilled and literally embodied by the character of Prince Hamlet. Moreover, the truth, hidden at
the onset of this play, sets the internal and external conflict for Prince Hamlet as well as the
figurative stage for a study of human character and action, or alternatively, ego and power.
Prince Hamlet s own ego is festered by the crime against his father: a murder committed by
Hamlet s ambitious uncle, Claudius, whose own ego has led him down a the path of a usurper.
Yet, Shakespeare exposes that the pains of human ego are not morally equivalent between these
two. Hamlet s pain and feelings of slight come at the potential truth that his father was murder. His
ego is that of a wounded sense of self created out of the anguish he feels in his inability to take
deliberate action against Claudius, driven out of the lack of evidence to truly

The Effects Of Television On Public Service Advertising Essay
1. Introduction Public service advertisements are a type of advertisements that usually
communicate a certain idea not a mainly a product, they are used by Mass media to raise
awareness and educate publics about an issue in order to shift attitudes and motivate behavior
change. PSAs mainly communicate about health topics or social issues including alcohol and drug
awareness, environmental protection, obesity prevention and gun control. A PSA is generally
sponsored by a not for profit organization, trade association or political group. It is usually featured
on television, radio or print. The Public Service Advertisement should contain three types of
messages to motivate behavior change: Awareness, instruction, and persuasion. To create
awareness, the messages of the campaign must inform publics about the health topic. Instruction
messages should tell the people what to do and how to do it, and persuasion messages should give
reasons to the public to adopt this particular health behavior. 2. Literature Review: 2.1 Effects of
Televised Public Service Ad The effects of television are of particular interest because of this
medium s ability to reach a variety of populations, including adolescents. Television is by far the
most widely used means of disseminating prevention messages, usually in the form of PSAs(Phillip

College Dropout Causes
The Social Cause of College Drop Out Rates Fifty six percent of students who enroll in college
will drop out within 6 years due to the constant stress of balancing work and school, expensive
tuition, and high societal standards (Atlas 1). The typical college freshman is not mentally or
emotionally prepared for college.(Allianz Tuition Insurance) The college drop out rate is seventy
one percent higher due to balancing work and school because students do not know how to
properly manage their time. With working so many hours, students tend to get overwhelmed
because their time is limited when it comes to studying for tests, quizzes, homework, or finals.
Being in the workforce and going to school full time interferes in your in and out of class study
time. The article The Struggle of Work School balance states Working full time can shrink the
chance that students will graduate at all, by cutting into the time available for studying and
attending classes ( TheAtlantic). The social aspect of balancing work and college are usually
students who come from different racial backgrounds. Usually that are from a Hispanic or Black
background but are also older in age (TheAtlantic). This leads back to a social issue because it
shows how the system wants the lower minority group to fail.( ). Due to not having the means to
afford the universitybut also wants them to fail so they can stay in the bluecolor community instead

Essay The Anti-Ballistic Missile Debate
At the beginning of our time on this earth, mankind was learning to stand up. Upon walking a
good many steps on this world, mankind moved across the lands living off of its fruit and meat.
Then we decided to stop moving and mankind developed cultivation skills to better serve us.
Since then mankind has grown by leaps and bounds over the kingdoms and empires of old.
Growth was spurred by conquest. It was almost as if man was born to kill or be killed. Although
riddled with turmoil the age that would surpass these days would always be over the cliff of a far
horizon. These events passed in cycles. Peace to follow war. Aggression came from suppression.
Mankind moved through the agricultural revolution and the... Show more content on

It includes the same radars, the same rockets, and largely the same deployment which was
contemplated for the heavy defense. Safeguard continues to look like a first step toward a much
bigger, more expensive and still ineffective system. (York 213)
This brings me to my first point: cost. The ABM appeared to have all the characteristics of a
solution in search of a problem. This characteristic shows up all too often in defense research and
development programs, especially in the field of nuclear weaponry. A possibly fundamental reason
why the ABM decision came up in 1969 was that ten years earlier Secretary of Defense McElroy,
in dividing up the space and missile roles and missions among the three services, assigned the
ABM to the Army as its only sophisticated missile program. This decision created a situation in
which for many years the lives and careers of many able persons had been closely entwined with
the life and fate of one single program: the Army s ABM. This not only included the civilians
employed in the program office and by the main contractors, it also included uniformed personnel
and a slew of part time advisers at all levels. The testimony given by persons who were part time
advisers to the defense establishment and who were also in favor of the

How Much Land Does a Man Require?
(Short story by Leo Tolstoy)
Introduction
Leo Tolstoy, a famous Russian novelist, was born on his father s estate in Russia. He went to the
University of Kazan and later joined an artillery regiment. He took part in the Crimean Warin 1854
and when the war was over; he resigned from his commission and went abroad. There he hoped to
find something different from Russia; but to his great disappointment, he found poverty and
ignorance.
Tolstoy began writing books and stories in his early 20s. His important works are War and Peace,
Anna Karenina, and Resurrection. In spite of his happy marriage and his fame, Tolstoy began to
feel that he was living selfishly. Eventually, he worked out a... Show more content on

Pakhom, the protagonist in the story seeks security in the acquisition of land instead of seeking
it in the humble life of a peasant. In the process he falls in the clutches of the devil and loses
everything, even his own life. Throughout his life he makes all the efforts to acquire land and in
the end he is buried in a grave measuring six feet, thus, answering the question posted in the title of
the story, How Much Land Does A Man Require?
The title is highly suggestive of man s predicament. Most of the people in this world are blinded
with a passion to acquire material possessions. They seek happiness and security in the perishable
things and ultimately meet their earthly ruin and eternal damnation.

Pakhom:
Tolstoy introduces Pakhom as a discontented man. He complains of the hard life of a peasant and
regrets that a peasant never has enough land. He is ambitious and wants to possess land and
become rich and declares: If I had plenty of land, I shouldn t fear the Devil himself. This statement
clearly shows his firm belief in the security that material possessions offer. He believes to gain

Abstract
This paper investigated primary school teachers awareness and the use of Information and
Communication Technology (ICT) in teaching. Three research questions were formulated to guide
the study. The study was a survey design. The population of the study consisted of 889 primary
school teachers . 200 primary school teachers were the sample. Data were gathered with the
questionnaire and analysed using mean scores to answer the research questions. The result of the
study revealed that primary school teachers are able to identify the technological tools that could be

In teaching or instruction, information and communication technology has both traditional and
authentic uses (Singh and Means, 1994). A traditional use of information and communication
technology is skills reinforcement; for example, students/pupils who need additional practice in
reading might work individually on computers equipped with reading comprehension software
(Osumah, 2003). An authentic use of information and communication technology on the other
hand, is using it as a tool to accomplish a complex task; for example, students who are creating a
written report might use the internet for research, word processing software to write and format the
text and hypermedia software to add images. According to Martin and Ofori Attah (2005),
technology is an area of the curriculum, as well as a tool for teaching and learning, in which
teachers must demonstrate their own awareness and capacity for learning. In other words, for
effective and meaningful teaching in the present information age, the demonstration of teachers
awareness and competencies for instructional use of information and communication technology
(ICT) cannot be underscored. If teachers are aware of the use of ICT in teaching, students/pupils
are likely to benefit from their knowledge. The

Characters In George Eliot s The Mill On The Floss
George Eliot is a verbose writer, and is exceedingly descriptive when it comes to her characters
in The Mill on the Floss. Three central characters Eliot paints with an especially detailed and
many layered brush are Maggie, Tom, and Mr. Tulliver. Mr. Tulliver is a decently prosperous
farmer, the proprietor of Dorlcote Mill, and the father of Maggie and Tom. In the first dialogue
of the story, we learn that Mr. Tulliver s desire is to give Tom a good eddication, an eddication
as ll be a bread to him... The two years at th academy ud ha done well enough, if I d meant to
make a miller and farmer o him, for he s had a fine sight more schoolin nor I ever got: all the
learnin my father ever payed for was a bit o birch at one end and the alphabet at th other, (Eliot
9). Mr. Tulliver s uneddicated country speech is certainly a far cry from the exact Eton grammar
of the clergyman he employs as Tom s second school master (Eliot 123). The simple and almost
comical nature of Mr. Tulliver is further shown through the medium of his own diction. In a
conversation with his wife, Mr. Tulliver attempts to use symbolism to illustrate his point that
Bessy Tulliver finds fault in things that aren t just the way she d like them. He tells Mrs.
Tulliver, you d want me not to hire a good waggoner, cause he d got a mole on his face... No, no,
Bessy; I didn t mean justly the mole; I meant it to stand for summat else; but niver mind it s

Characteristics Of An Anglo-Saxon Hero
Beowulf: An Anglo Saxon Hero The Anglo Saxons culture and traditions are rooted in their beliefs
of the perfect hero. Their ideal hero has many key characteristics influenced by their culture
including courage, strength, bravery, thick skin, loyalty, humbleness, and the ability to create
strong trustworthy friendships. Beowulfis an epic poem that exhibits the ideal Anglo Saxon hero.
The Anglo Saxon traditions illustrated in Beowulf accurately represent the Anglo Saxon traditions
of the time period. This is accomplished through the distinct correlation of heroic characteristics
between Beowulf and the culture s traditional depiction of an Anglo Saxon hero. Anglo Saxons
believed that to be a hero was to be a warrior (Garcia). They believed their ideal heroic warrior
should have five main characteristics: courage, strength, bravery, thick skin, and loyalty. Anglo
Saxons believed these five characteristics created the perfect image of an Anglo Saxon hero.
They believed that a hero should have godly strength and courage during battles and not allow
for emotional senses to affect him; hence, the thick skin. Anglo Saxons believed that emotions
could distract a hero from his sole purpose in battle. Bravery was also a key characteristic Anglo
Saxons believed a hero should have as it was a basic component every hero needed in order to
act upon other characteristics like strength and courage successfully. They also believed that an
Anglo Saxon hero should be loyal as loyalty kept unity among the people and was the foundation
of the Anglo Saxon culture (Trekker2392). Anglo Saxons believed that without loyalty, there
would be no unity and trust between people. Betrayal was rare with the Anglo Saxon people
(Trekker2392). An Anglo Saxon hero would not betray anyone no matter the circumstance.
Other underlying factors still key to an Anglo Saxon hero include the ability to be humble, have
an appearance of a warrior, and create strong friendships. Anglo Saxons believed that a hero should
look the part, have a great build, and a brave otherworldly appearance (Cascio). If an Anglo Saxon
hero did not have the proper build of a warrior, Anglo Saxons may not take him as a serious hero.
Humbleness was also key for an

Abstract In this paper we have discussed about the cache and various mapping technique. Then we
shift our focus on compressed caching which is the technique that tries to decrease paging
request from secondary storage. We know that there is a big performance gap in accessing the
primary memory (RAM) and secondary storage (Disk). The Compressed caching technique
intercepts the pages to be swapped out, compresses them and stores them in pool allocated in
RAM. Hence it tries to fill the performance gap by adding new level to virtual memory hierarchy.
This paper analyze the performance of virtual memory compression. Further to avoid various
categories of cache misses we discuss different types of cache technique to achieve higher
performance. Lastly we discuss few open and challenging issues faced in various cache optimization
techniques.

Pirates In Modern Pop Culture
Pirates were not the repulsive scum that is often seen in modern pop culture, neither were they the
romanticized outlaws that wandered the seas. Most pirates set out of their illegal harbors with a
goal in mind and strive to achieve their goals, while abiding to rules set and regulated by their
brethren. The war on pirates was bloody and violent and the victims of piracynumbered in the
thousands with casualties almost just as high, however, most pirates in the 1700s were not looting
and killing for sport, rather, they were acting out of the direction of their sovereign. To prove their
ethical innocence, one must look into the differences between the types of pirates, the reasoning
behind pirate raid, and consequences of such raids. First... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If an act brings more pleasure to a greater amount of people than it does pain, the act in itself
(regardless of intent), is ethical and noble. Using Bentham s scope to analyze the actions of these
various sects of piracy, we can see the varying status of ethics in each groups dealing. The pirates
can be viewed as unethical since their random attacks on multi racial and multi national ships did
not benefit any specific country and slowed down trade across the Atlantic Ocean to no one s
benefits. Yet, their attacks increased the value of sugar, pelts and tobacco that were the main goods
of trade for the struggling colonists. And as shown in both the Taylor book and the textbook packet,
the diminishing returns lead many colonists to quit and return to Europe but the pirate attacks
allowed their returns to increase exponentially if their ships were unmolested. The balance between
their wrong doings and the positive outcomes balances out and, therefore, cannot be judged through
Bentham s scope. The buccaneers were more clear cut when viewed in this lighting, their sabotage
on Spanish transport not only benefitted the heavily taxed colonists (most stolen goods were reused
inside colonized settlements) but the delay in profit also, inadvertently, benefitted England as well.
The privateers were by far the easiest to judge, although they could belong to various nations, only

Although fitness centers and gyms may appear to be a place to break a sweat and work out with
the intention of not being seen without makeup and in grungy clothes, this may not be the case, in

1: How do the IT investment strategies and focus of FedEx and its main competitor UPS differ?
Which Company has the better strategy? Why?
The chief information officer of FedEx, Rob Carter states that the IT investment strategies are
customer based technologies. FedEx focuses less on operational technology and more on revenue
generating, customer satisfaction, and strategic advantage technology (O’Brien 43). UPS
is a much larger company that focuses on operations and the bottom line. UPS is constantly playing
catch up with FedEx by mimicking their strategic advantage technology to stay in competition. This
means FedEx always has a head start or the upper hand in the competitive advantage.

Is this a good vision for FedEx? Why or why not? How vital is IT to this definition of FedEx S
business? Use examples from the case to illustrate your answer.
The idea that Carter believes FedEx is in the business of engineering time is a good business
vision for FedEx because the world and its technology is always changing. With technology comes
managing and engineering time, keeping up with the changes in the society we live in. This is a
good vision for FedEx because when society changes, FedEx acts upon it, communicates and keeps
moving forward. They keep up with society and technology changes by innovating new ideas to
remain competitive. FedEx believes in offering solutions that allow you to engineer time so things
can happen that weren’t able to happen in the past (Carter/O’Brien 44).
Information technology is very important to this definition of FedEx’s business.
Information technology is seen as a competitive advantage for FedEx. FedEx’s main and
biggest competitor is UPS, and in second is DHL. Both companies are continually trying to make
the challenges harder for FedEx and in particular CIO Rob Carter. UPS and FedEx have been at
battle on technology especially customer based technology. “We tend to focus slightly less
on operational technology. We focus a little more on revenue generating, customer satisfaction

The Seperation of Powers and the American Constitution Essay
The Seperation of Powers and the American Constitution When the founding fathers wrote the
Constitution they came up with a revolutionary idea which is known as the seperation of powers.
This incorperated a system which protected the principles on which the constitution was based,
such as avoiding tyranny and forming a more perfect union. The way the seperation of powers work
is known as vertical and horizontal. The vertical seperation of powers has three different branches,
the Federal government, the state governments and the much smaller local governments. The local
governments consist of a mayor, councils and county courts, these would ytake care of things such

There are powers though that can not be taken away from any of these three branches meaning all
have been limited. To prevent the federal, state or maybe even local governments taking control of
the country, the power sharing is broken down further. All three of the above braches have another
three branches, these are the executive, legislature and the judiciary. All three use a system known
as Checks and Balances, this allows one of the the branches to be watched over and checked on by
the other two branches . This works well as the Supreme Courtprotects the constitution by ruling on
whether or not a bill is constitutional or unconstitutional. There are downsides to the Checks and
Balances as was seen in 1995 during the Appropreations Crisis when government shut down for two
weeks as Congress and the, then, President Clinton could not agree over the Appropreations Bill.
There is also the Line Item Veto which came from the Appropreation s Crisis, this allowed the
Presidentto veto sentences or paragraphsthat he did not like, this was ruled unconstitutional by the
Supreme Court even though it made for more effective government. A further seperation of power

Vacation cousin The drive to North Carolina was very long and boring . When will we be at the

that was right across the street from the hotel that we were staying at.
When we got back to the hotel, I looked for my bed and it looked like I was sleeping on the pull

After a while, my parents, sisters ,and younger brother came walking down into the cafeteria to

Globalisation and World Today globalization is essentially a synonym for global business.
Globalization is changing the world we live in at a very increasingly rapid pace (Rodrik., 1997).
Changes in technology, communication, and transportation are opening up borders and markets at
increasing rates. In any large city in any country, Japanese cars ply the streets, a mobile call can be

The Effects Of Drug Market Pulling Levers Policing On...
Lastly, we will look at the pulling lever strategy used in High Point. Like the authors say in The
Impact of Drug Market Pulling Levers Policing on Neighborhood Violence , the reason why they
did this study was to examine the impact of the various place‐based pulling levers interventions
that were implemented in High Point (Corsaro, Hunt, Hipple, McGarrell). The reader can interpret
from the article that the purpose is to conclude what context is needed for pulling lever strategies to
work in deterrence. They go into an in‐depth statistical analysis describing the sensitivity present
as there could be things like types of selection biases. Statisticians must be careful when navigating
data as we found before where the Panel could not conclude that the pulling lever strategies had a
direct relationship between the crimerates. In the article they do come to a conclusion where they
find that although pulling levers has shown potential when focused on gangs and groups involved
with networks of chronic, violent offenders, far less is known about its capacity to diminish
violent crime associated with locally operated street drug markets (Corsaro, Hunt, Hipple,
McGarrell). Essentially, it is describing the limitations that are presented with pulling lever
strategies. Like multiple of the other articles, they have found that this strategy works for gang
related violence. They question whether the strategy would be as effective if it were applied to
crime that is associated

simple task, however that is not the case. Even after completing a competency, careful
considerations need to be made, in order to produce a diagnostic radiograph. A patient s body
habitus, height, age, and overall health can affect the diagnostic information that is present on a
radiograph. Additionally, these factors will most certainly affect the manner in which an
examination is carried out. Although I have gained a competency on the standard chest
examination, these factors require that myself and those around me pay close attention to the needs
of the patient. But with the guidance and knowledge of the technologists at Spohn South, I find the
efficiency with which I complete exams increasing as the days pass. Recently, I performed a
standard chest exam under the supervision of staff technologist, Timothy Rung. As with any
examination one of the most important aspects in patient care, is the right patient and right exam.
Two patient identifiers were confirmed on the patient, who is a fifty nine year old female. She
came to the emergency department because of an acute cough that had been present for over a
week. The symptoms present at the time of her arrival included coughing, wheezing, and pain in the
lungs. Once the patient was in the examination room the process of the examination was explained
to her. Furthermore, I explained to her that all metal objects from the waist up

The Emotional And Physical Burdens During The Vietnam War
Jimmy Cross: the Emotional and Physical Burdens in the Vietnam War
War has fascinated since the beginning of time for what they reveal about the human condition in
its worst squalor as in its greatness. Maybe Vietnam is best seen through a shattered helicopter
windshield. Chickenhawk is one bloody, painfully honest, and courageous book , recognizes Martin
Cruz Smith. Chickenhawk is Robert Mason s narrative of personal experience which deals
chronologically with his training in Vietnam. Through this description of war, Mason distinguishes
the physical part of war and the psychological phase. He also demonstrates that the expressive
aspect controls the physical. Consequently, this indication has remained intact. Tim O Brien in his
fictional story The Things They Carried, voices the idea that the psychological burdens overshadow
the physical pain that the soldiers must carry: They carried all the emotional baggage of men who
might die. Grief, terror, love, longing these were intangibles, but the intangibles had their own mass
and specific gravity, they had tangible weight (O Brien 926). O Brien claims that horror, longing,
responsibility, and uncertainty that the soldiers experience outweigh the physical agony that they
must resist to survive, loads that are lightened only a little by the willing to return home.
The weight of mental burden that probably weighs the most on the hearts of the men is fear. In the
forest of Vietnam, young soldiers are forced to carry

Urbanization and Industrialization brought millions of people to growing cities, these growing
cities were ill equipped to deal with growing population rate. While some might argue that

The Pit And The Pendulum Short Story
The Pit and the Pendulum is a 1961 horror film directed by Roger Corman , starring
Vincent Price as Don Medina, or Nicholas, as the main character. The film was based on Edgar
Allan Poe s short story of the same name . The movie Poe fans might think that the short story has
some differences from the film, some reasons would be that the short story is said in first person
point of view, while the film has a bunch of different characters. Despite its differences, this movie
deserves to be tagged as a Edgar Allan Poe story because it contains suspense, the language and
some of the sentences they use is very poetic, and the storyline has horror.
The definition of suspense is a state or feeling of excited or anxious uncertainty about what may
happen . One can find suspense in the storyline of the film when Don, Catherine,
Francis, and Doctor Leon go down to the basement, where Elizabeth and the rest of the Medina
family was buried, in curiosity of whether Don Medina buried Elizabeth alive. Suspense is built in
the watching of Francis and Dr. Leon taking pic axes to the cemented and brick wall that stands
between them and Elizabeth s body. When they all finally get into the tomb, they see
Elizabeth s coffin, they start to open it up with a look of fear in their eyes. They finally get the
coffin open and see a skeleton with hair and it s hands looking like it s been trying to claw its way
out. So, they conclude that Elizabeth was buried alive, and Nicholas goes into a depression

High performance, sustainable/green buildings have become a trend and are gradually entering the
mainstream as an important market sector in the United States and globally. Construction of a

of the LEED rating system is to promote options for minimizing disturbance and skillfully
incorporating the existing topography into the design.

Contamination may occur from any of the construction side effects, such erosion and

How Does Billy Pilgrim Use Satire In Catch 22
How does one know they are right? Does one viewpoint inherently have more value than another?
Unconventional viewpoints towards war are often portrayed in classic literature from the
perspective of its soldiers. Kurt Vonnegut, in his novel Slaughterhouse Five, writes the story of
Billy Pilgrim, a WWII veteran with PTSD who lives his life stuck in time . Throughout the non
chronological course of the novel, Pilgrim questions his faith and purpose and eventually
becomes trapped in his own fantastical reality as an attempt to escape his horrific memories of
the war. Yossarian, in Joseph Heller s Catch 22, also relies on escapism to make it through his
own experience in WWII. After a series of traumatic events leads to many of his comrades dying,
he runs from the war and escapes to Sweden. His lack of faith in religion, his superiors, and
purpose of the war leads to Yossarian s escape to Sweden, a country free of American influence.
Pilgrim and Yossarian s integrity and sanity is consistently questionable, as well as their sanity
during and after the war. Vonnegut and Heller both use satirical means to question the effects of

Benefits Of Opportunity Cost For Opportunity Costs
Human wants are unlimited but the resources are limited. Therefore, it is not possible to fulfil all
the human desires. As a result, scarcity arises. Scarcity is the condition where the human desires
cannot be fulfilled due to the limitation of available resources. Hence, to fulfil one wish, we give up
another which in economicsis termed as the opportunity costs. Due to limited resources and due to
unavailability, individuals and society are forced to incur opportunity costs. Opportunity cost is the
second best alternative that one gives up. Due to the limitations of resources, human chooses the
most viable options as per the benefits and costs.
The diagram above shows the Production Possibility Curve. It shows the level of satisfaction as per
the consumption of coke and Pizza. The points A, B, C, D E shows the maximum level of output
one can achieve. Any point below the curve is inefficient and any point beyond the curve is
unachievable. In order to enjoy 15 pizzas, one should give up all the coke or in order to enjoy 40
cokes, one should give up all the pizzas. At point B, one can enjoy 13 pizzas and 20 cokes.
Likewise, one can enjoy 10 pizzas and 30 cokes at point C and 5 pizzas and 38 cokes at point D.
In order to enjoy 20 cokes, one has to give up (15 13) i.e. 2 pizzas which can be termed as
opportunity cost. The opportunity cost to have 30 cokes is the 5 pizzas that we give up because in
that point we can have only 10 pizzas. Therefore, to

Thesis Statement Of Sweatshops
The Benefits Behind Sweatshops
Thesis statement: Sweatshops, when left to operate without government intervention, are the most
efficient way of out poverty.
Introductory rationale: When it comes to social justice issues, most people believe the government
needs to solve the problem. Social justice in sweatshops is no exception. In my research, I have
found that what people see as the cause of injustice in developing countries, sweatshops, are
actually what is responsible for lifting people up out of poverty. As a result, any sort of government
regulation will fail to solve the problem. The audience I am writing for is a diverse group of peers
who are concerned with social justice though they may have different solutions and beliefs about
the topic. My goal in this draft is to expand their knowledge and show them the benefits of not
interfering with the free market.

Alice Munro s Boys and Girls and John Steinbeck s The...
The difference between men and women is a very controversial issue, while there are obviously
physical differences; the problem is how the genders are treated. It is stereotypically thought that
the men do the labor work and make all the money, while the women stay in the house, cooking,
cleaning and taking care of the children. While this stereotype does not exist as much in the 21st
century, it was very prevalent in the 1900s. By using many different literary tools such as character
development, symbolism, and setting, Alice Munro s Boys and Girls and John Steinbecks The
Chrysanthemums challenge this controversial topic of the treatment of women versus men in the
1900s.

Although, unlike Munro, Steinbeck also uses the setting as an insight to Elisa s thoughts and to
reflect her feelings. The story opens up with a lengthy description of Salinas Valleywere Elisa and
Henry live. The valley is described to be like a closed pot (Steinbeck 1) with no sunshine
(Steinbeck 1). This description reflects Elisa s emotions since she hides her true feelings of sadness
and a dull, un eventful life. Although, despite the winter weather the inhabitants of Salinas Valley
wait and are mildly hopeful (Steinbeck 2) of better weather, just like how Elisa is hopeful and
constantly waiting for something better to come along in her life.
Another important literary element used by Munro and Steinbeck is symbolism. In Boys and
Girls, Munro uses horses within the girl s stories and in reality as a key symbol for freedom,
and also as a parallel to the girl s life. The girl often dreamed of ruling a world where everyone
had equal opportunities and riding a find horse spiritedly down the main street of Jubilee (Munro
6). This showed some of the girl s masculine qualities of courage and nobility, but what the girl
would soon realize is that it was the men that were expected to save the village not women. In
reality, Flora the horse symbolized freedom but also symbolized the girl and her life. After being

My Wicked Wicked Ways Poem
My Wicked Wicked Ways is a simple poem if you read it quickly, but after reading every stanza
and analyzing it you feel the complexity of it, every line of every stanza adds a different taste to
the poem, completes the painting, and with the last stanza the poet puts its magical touches to it. I
will start by identifying the subject of the poem, and then like every poem I will discuss the meter
of the poem, with the rhymeschemes and any figurative language if the poet used them.
The poem starts with This is my father (Cisneros 1) which shows the poets connection with her
father, her past, her childhood See? He is young (Cisneros 2), while reading this stanza, you start
to imagine the poet holding a small, old and non colored picture of her as a child, defining every
detail of her father s looks He looks like Errol Flynn (Cisneros 3), Errol Flynn was a handsome
actor, he was known as a womanizer, which is what she thinks her father was, in the picture her
father is wearing a hat, that leans over one of his eyes, a well suited suit, and some tow toned shoes.
Those shoes her mother doesn t like, my mother hates (Cisneros 11), the writer used the word hates,
which shows that there was an argument about the shoes but it wasn t a big argument to mention.
The second stanza, the poet moves to talking about her mother Here is my mother. (Cisneros 12),
but doesn t identify her looks, or her cloths, rather than describing her as she is not crying She is
not crying.

The On The Night Of September 11th
is AP Government August 13, 2014 AP Government Summer Assignment Benghazi Fall of 2012
on the night of September 11th our United States embassy was attacked in Benghazi. Benghazi is
the legislative capital of the country of Libya. Our U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and
U.S. Foreign Service Information Management Officer Sean Smith were murdered in the attack on
the compound. The attackers were working for and alongside Ahmed Abbu Khattala. That state
department in Washington D.C. was heavily criticized for denying additional security and backup
to the embassy during the attacks. The decisions made on that fateful night were unfortunately
very politically driven. After the fantastic feat by Obama and his administration in killing Osama
Bin Laden, it had become very clear that Al Qaida and terrorism in the Middle East was not on
the run as our president had stated earlier that year. It was no coincidence that these attacks took
place on the anniversary of 9/11. This event shook many Americans, and the way the information
was relayed to the American people aroused suspicions about the integrity of our president and his
motives. President Obama claimed these attacks were caused by a viral video slamming Islam. It
was easy to blame an event on a video and push the truth under the rug. The truth that terrorism was
resurging and these terrorists were not afraid to attack Americans. With an upcoming election, the
news that Al Qaida may be a force to be reckoned with once

Examples Of Deterioration In The Black Cat
Deterioration of Morals and Mind in The Black Cat In Edgar Allan Poe s The Black Cat, the
unnamed narrator recounts the way his life has fallen apart due to a series of terrifying incidents
he has with his pet cat, Pluto. As the story develops, his actions grow more grotesque and
immoral as he tries to rid himself of the animal. In one of these instances, a fire forces the narrator
to move from his well tended house to a smaller, run down building, which represents the
deterioration of his state of mind. In this way, Edgar Allan Poeuses elements of setting to suggest
that when people disregard their conscience, the resulting moral and mental decay will end in their
retribution. At the beginning of the story, the narrator resides in a well tended house, which acts as
a symbol for his fairly healthy state of mind. He describes his house as his entire worldly wealth
(139) and states that he has a servant,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, it is too late, and his conscience does not survive his worsened state of mind. Thus, the
inner workings of his mind, symbolized by the walls of his house, start to break down, which, in
turn, kill the conscience. Consequently, his conscience is burned into his mind as a faint
impression of guilt, symbolized by the bas relief on the single standing wall at the head of his bed.
Moreover, the use of eyes as a prop strengthens the connection of the cat and his conscience. It is a
common saying that eyes are windows to the soul, which becomes the reason why the narrator
gouges out Pluto s eye. He does not want his conscience to affect his soul, so he takes out one of
its eyes to prevent it from truly seeing his soul. Even though he feels slightly guilty after his violent
act, it was, at best, a feeble and equivocal feeling, and the soul remained untouched

Keynes and the Classical Economists: The Early Debate on Policy Activism LEAR N I NG OBJ

automatically tend toward full employment. 2. Explain why Keynes rejected the views of the
classical economists. 3. Compare the views of Keynes and the classical economists with regard to
the proper role of government. s you discovered in Chapter 10, unemployment and inflation impose
costs on our society. Today, many Americans assume that it is the federal government s
responsibility to reduce those costs by combating unemployment and inflation when they occur. But

the purchase of capital goods, such as factories and machinery. Why were the classical economists
so sure that the amount households wished to save would equal the amount businesses wanted to
invest? Because of interest rates. In the classical model the interest rate is determined by the
demand for and supply of loanable funds, money available to be borrowed. If households desired to
save more than investors wanted to borrow, the surplus of funds would drive down the interest rate.
Because the interest rate is both the reward households receive for saving and the price businesses
pay to finance investment, a declining interest rate would both discourage saving and encourage
investment. The interest rate would continue to fall until the amount that households wanted to
save once again equaled the amount businesses desired to invest. At this equilibrium interest rate
there would be no uninvested

Using Lucene And Clustering Libraries
egin{abstract} smallaselineskip=9pt Near miss reporting systems store events and hazardous
conditions reported by individuals to safety departments. This project develops a system matches
near miss events to similar events allowing an analyst to quickly find the number of prior events
and determine how they were audited. Result shows how frequently the near miss occurs. User
can have comparison resolution and analysis base on best similar records on safety auditing
process. Final system suggests the predicted matches based on first hits stream data; this has been
achieved by two step similarity functions, which built and developed similar incidents in web
platform using Lucene and Clustering libraries. The K means clustering and logistic regression
methods has been trained to be used real time to evaluate final safety scores categorized by labels,
and provided label matching in particular safety concept group(s). This combined methodology
presents measure of semantic similarity where request for both predefined human labels achieved
from previous resolution and implementations. Probabilistic model as similarity on a data set
formulated by LDA and BM25 and is implemented by python and java to push data. Our results
shown that while labeling is ambiguous, using K means with several clusters guide for better
category cleaning, otherwise logistic functionality lead user to better selection. These methods

Budgets are used for detailed planning in the organization. Based on the budget, the resources are
allocated to different activities. Top management would create the budget but this budget should be
spread to low level management. One of the budget information problems is to cut short the
expenses in every department based on the constraints put up in budget. This budget information
problem is also rooted in the way resources are to be allocated in the organization. It can be said
that, resource allocation is the biggest and painful task after the declaration of budget. The budget

Alzheimer s Disease Essay
ALZHEIMER S DISEASE
Our memories are priceless. It makes our life beautiful and worth living. Most importantly, it
connects us with people around us. But what if those memories start fading away? What if it
becomes difficult to remember names of people or places? This is the horror of Alzheimer s, a
form of dementia affecting millions of people across the globe. It is also one leading cause of death
globally.
Nature of Alzheimer s
Alzheimer s disease starts with small loss of memory and momentary confusions. As the condition
worsens, the disease erases a whole lot of memories, skills, cognitive ability till it reaches to
nothing. It is a type of dementia that causes problems with memory, thinking and behavior. It is
characterized by loss ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These plaques mess up the brain cells by choking the brain cells and snapping the connections
between them. Consequently, it leads to the death of the brain cells.
Types of Alzheimer s
Alzheimer s can be broadly classified into two types early onset and late onset.
Early onset It occurs in people between the age group of 30 to 60. If either father or mother
carries a gene mutation for early onset Alzheimer s, then their child will have a fifty percent
chance of inheriting the disease. If the child inherits the gene mutation, his risk factor to get the
disease will be very high. Early onset is caused by any one of a number of different single gene
mutations on chromosomes which causes formation of abnormal proteins.
Late onset Most of the Alzheimer s patients have the late onset form which normally occurs after
60. The cause of it though not fully known, but they likely are due to a combination of genetic,
environmental and lifestyle factors.
Good news
Many years ago, scientists thought that Alzheimer s was incurable. But recent breakthroughs in
research have given us to hope to cling on. Advances in brain imaging have allowed scientists to
identify the buildup of proteins within a living

SELF ASSESSMENT REFLECTION REPORT
CMHR405 Winter, 2014
Harieshan Kandiah
April 6, 2014
Self assessments have been used widely in recent decades. The usefulness and truthfulness of
these assessments depend entirely upon the user. Utilizing a self assessment tool for the
betterment of self is the goal of this report. In this report, I have completed 3 different self
assessments to analyze myself. The first assessment that will be discussed is the Jung Personality
Test. The next one will be the Team Role Preference Survey followed by the Work Locus of Control
Survey. Each of these surveys focuses on various behavioural and personality traits. The Jung
Personality Test focuses on four principal physiological... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The 10 I got in this category accurately describes me, because I tend to be actively involved in
discussions and trying to get everyone s ideas heard. As a gatekeeper, I encourage and facilitate
participation within the group to ensure all team members contribute to the project. I feel the
12 that I got in this category accurately represents me because I am always trying to get everyone
involved. As a harmonizer, I manage the group discussions and mediate conflicts while reducing
tension. The 12 I got in this category is accurate of me because I manage the group discussion
while ensuring conflicts do not erupt. As an initiator, I am efficient in setting group goals and
looking for ways to work on these goals. This leadership role describes me somewhat because I
do like to take charge when possible. As a summarizer with a 12, I feel that taking notes and
summarizing meetings fits me well. I found this to be a surprise because summarizers usually tend
to be non leaders. I generally opt for a more leadership oriented position. The theory behind this test
has helped me understand more about myself in terms of fitting in within a group environment. I
found that I would fit best within the roles of gatekeeper and harmonizer, which aren t surprising.
According to self assessment feedback on personality, the key motivation that drives my behavior
is to be respected, to be academically qualified, and to

Walmart in China
Walmart in China
Introduction
Walmart, founded by Sam Walton in 1962, is the largest retail company in the world. The low cost
strategy and hence the Every Day Low Prices (EDLP) strategy allowed Walmart to outperform
competitors in the US. Besides having stores in the US, Walmart has also expanded its market
worldwide. Walmart s entry into China was not surprising, given its population and growth
potential. Nevertheless, Walmart China had been struggling with its sales volume. It was only
ranked twentieth in sales out of all the Chinese chain stores in 2005. Walmart s strategic move in
the US does not seem to be applicable in the Chinese market. Different factors in the Chinese market
blunted the cost advantage of Walmart. This paper... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The intensity of rivalry is quite high in the Chinese retailing industry. Not only does Walmart China
have to compete with all the foreign retailers like Carrefour and Tesco, but also with the local ones.
The local retailers pose an even bigger threat to Walmart owing to their well established network and
prime locations. Moreover, exposing to foreign competition allows the local retailers to imitate the
foreigners techniques and hence improve their own supply chain efficiency. Also, the fact that the
local retailers have entrenched customer, supplier and distribution bases, further intensified the
rivalry in the retailing industry. (Farhoomand, 2006)
Lastly, the presence of income disparity in China makes the national merchandising plan more
challenging. China s Gini coefficient of 0.4 suggested that income inequality is at an alarming
level. There are poor individuals that cannot even afford buying daily necessity while the affluent
customers are constantly looking for luxurious products (Farhoomand, 2006). Given this huge
income disparity, Walmart China has been finding it difficult to develop its cost leadership strategy
as they cannot standardize their products easily and have to provide different products that meet
different customers needs.
Strategic Approaches and recommendations
All the factors in the Chinese retailing industry show that the cost leadership strategy adopted in the
US Walmart might not be applicable in China.

Similarities Between 400 And 800 AD Between the period stretching from 400 to 800 AD, Celtic speaking regions throughout Britain and Ireland saw dramatic developments, both politically and linguistically, some of which drew similarities from one another, however, there are others which differed significantly. The country of Ireland is built on four certain provinces, consisting of Ulaid, Leinster, Munster and Connacht. All of which underwent political and linguistic developments throughout this four hundred year period. Developments can be seen in a variety of mediums highlighted through historical texts, poetry, religion, material culture and place names. Historical text can be illustrated in many different forms such as annals, and early Irish laws. Annals, along with early Irish laws, provide us with a primary source of information illustrating important events which occurred during the period. Annals in the kingdom of Ulaid up until the middle of the ninth century were written predominantly in the Latin language. A minimal amount of Irish words also appeared in these Annals, with passing centuries the number of written Irish included in Annals increased steadily until it became the dominant language written throughout Annals. The evolving language, of the annals documented by the kingdom of Ulaid throughout the centuries, provide a snippet into the developing politics of Ireland, throughout 400 and 800 A.D. Key events documented by the kingdom of Ulster provide a basis of context, as to what was deemed as important to Ireland s society during the period between 400 and 800 A.D, thus in turn, gives insight to the political developments which occurred, such as the beginning of reigns, deaths and battles, Theodosius Bologna[...]he began his reign in AD 425 and ruled 27 ... • 3. Literary Scholarship And Criticism Of Shakespeare s The... Shakespeare critic and Harvard literature professor, Harold Bloom, asserts that Shakespeare is the metaphorical inventor of man. Bloom writes: The plays remain the outward limit of human achievement: aesthetically, cognitively, in certain ways morally, even spiritually. They abide beyond the end of the mind s reach, we cannot catch up to them. Shakespeare will go on explaining us, in part because, he invented us (pp. 19 20). Bloom s audacious evaluation of Shakespeare has been echoed throughout the canon of literary scholarship and criticism. In fact, Bloom s invention thesis, found in Shakespeare: The Invention of the Human, represents a culmination of centuries of teaching and reflection upon the famous English poet s craft. This ... In this play, we see the malignant ambition of newly throned King Claudius, the questionable decision making of Queen Gertrude, and the emotionally preying and encompassing force of murdered King Hamlet s ghost, construct the grounds for contemplation of human drama; this contemplation is essentially distilled and literally embodied by the character of Prince Hamlet. Moreover, the truth, hidden at the onset of this play, sets the internal and external conflict for Prince Hamlet as well as the figurative stage for a study of human character and action, or alternatively, ego and power. Prince Hamlet s own ego is festered by the crime against his father: a murder committed by Hamlet s ambitious uncle, Claudius, whose own ego has led him down a the path of a usurper. Yet, Shakespeare exposes that the pains of human ego are not morally equivalent between these two. Hamlet s pain and feelings of slight come at the potential truth that his father was murder. His ego is that of a wounded sense of self created out of the anguish he feels in his inability to take deliberate action against Claudius, driven out of the lack of evidence to truly ... • 4. The Effects Of Television On Public Service Advertising Essay 1. Introduction Public service advertisements are a type of advertisements that usually communicate a certain idea not a mainly a product, they are used by Mass media to raise awareness and educate publics about an issue in order to shift attitudes and motivate behavior change. PSAs mainly communicate about health topics or social issues including alcohol and drug awareness, environmental protection, obesity prevention and gun control. A PSA is generally sponsored by a not for profit organization, trade association or political group. It is usually featured on television, radio or print. The Public Service Advertisement should contain three types of messages to motivate behavior change: Awareness, instruction, and persuasion. To create awareness, the messages of the campaign must inform publics about the health topic. Instruction messages should tell the people what to do and how to do it, and persuasion messages should give reasons to the public to adopt this particular health behavior. 2. Literature Review: 2.1 Effects of Televised Public Service Ad The effects of television are of particular interest because of this medium s ability to reach a variety of populations, including adolescents. Television is by far the most widely used means of disseminating prevention messages, usually in the form of PSAs(Phillip Palmgreen, Lewis Donohew N.D)1. College Dropout Causes The Social Cause of College Drop Out Rates Fifty six percent of students who enroll in college will drop out within 6 years due to the constant stress of balancing work and school, expensive tuition, and high societal standards (Atlas 1). The typical college freshman is not mentally or emotionally prepared for college.(Allianz Tuition Insurance) The college drop out rate is seventy one percent higher due to balancing work and school because students do not know how to properly manage their time. With working so many hours, students tend to get overwhelmed because their time is limited when it comes to studying for tests, quizzes, homework, or finals. Being in the workforce and going to school full time interferes in your in and out of class study time. The article The Struggle of Work School balance states Working full time can shrink the chance that students will graduate at all, by cutting into the time available for studying and attending classes ( TheAtlantic). The social aspect of balancing work and college are usually students who come from different racial backgrounds. Usually that are from a Hispanic or Black background but are also older in age (TheAtlantic). This leads back to a social issue because it shows how the system wants the lower minority group to fail.( ). Upon walking a good many steps on this world, mankind moved across the lands living off of its fruit and meat. Growth was spurred by conquest. It was almost as if man was born to kill or be killed. Although riddled with turmoil the age that would surpass these days would always be over the cliff of a far horizon. These events passed in cycles. Peace to follow war. The ABM appeared to have all the characteristics of a solution in search of a problem. This characteristic shows up all too often in defense research and development programs, especially in the field of nuclear weaponry. A possibly fundamental reason why the ABM decision came up in 1969 was that ten years earlier Secretary of Defense McElroy, in dividing up the space and missile roles and missions among the three services, assigned the ABM to the Army as its only sophisticated missile program. This decision created a situation in which for many years the lives and careers of many able persons had been closely entwined with the life and fate of one single program: the Army s ABM. He took part in the Crimean Warin 1854 and when the war was over; he resigned from his commission and went abroad. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In teaching or instruction, information and communication technology has both traditional and authentic uses (Singh and Means, 1994). A traditional use of information and communication technology is skills reinforcement; for example, students/pupils who need additional practice in reading might work individually on computers equipped with reading comprehension software (Osumah, 2003). An authentic use of information and communication technology on the other hand, is using it as a tool to accomplish a complex task; for example, students who are creating a written report might use the internet for research, word processing software to write and format the text and hypermedia software to add images. According to Martin and Ofori Attah (2005), technology is an area of the curriculum, as well as a tool for teaching and learning, in which teachers must demonstrate their own awareness and capacity for learning. In other words, for effective and meaningful teaching in the present information age, the demonstration of teachers awareness and competencies for instructional use of information and communication technology (ICT) cannot be underscored. If teachers are aware of the use of ICT in teaching, students/pupils are likely to benefit from their knowledge. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Characters In George Eliot s The Mill On The Floss George Eliot is a verbose writer, and is exceedingly descriptive when it comes to her characters in The Mill on the Floss. Three central characters Eliot paints with an especially detailed and many layered brush are Maggie, Tom, and Mr. Tulliver. Mr. Tulliver is a decently prosperous farmer, the proprietor of Dorlcote Mill, and the father of Maggie and Tom. In the first dialogue of the story, we learn that Mr. Tulliver s desire is to give Tom a good eddication, an eddication as ll be a bread to him... The two years at th academy ud ha done well enough, if I d meant to make a miller and farmer o him, for he s had a fine sight more schoolin nor I ever got: all the learnin my father ever payed for was a bit o birch at one end and the alphabet at th other, (Eliot 9). Mr. Tulliver s uneddicated country speech is certainly a far cry from the exact Eton grammar of the clergyman he employs as Tom s second school master (Eliot 123). The simple and almost comical nature of Mr. Tulliver is further shown through the medium of his own diction. In a conversation with his wife, Mr. Tulliver attempts to use symbolism to illustrate his point that Bessy Tulliver finds fault in things that aren t just the way she d like them. He tells Mrs. Tulliver, you d want me not to hire a good waggoner, cause he d got a mole on his face... • 10. Characteristics Of An Anglo-Saxon Hero Beowulf: An Anglo Saxon Hero The Anglo Saxons culture and traditions are rooted in their beliefs of the perfect hero. Their ideal hero has many key characteristics influenced by their culture including courage, strength, bravery, thick skin, loyalty, humbleness, and the ability to create strong trustworthy friendships. Beowulfis an epic poem that exhibits the ideal Anglo Saxon hero. The Anglo Saxon traditions illustrated in Beowulf accurately represent the Anglo Saxon traditions of the time period. This is accomplished through the distinct correlation of heroic characteristics between Beowulf and the culture s traditional depiction of an Anglo Saxon hero. Anglo Saxons believed that to be a hero was to be a warrior (Garcia). They believed their ideal heroic warrior should have five main characteristics: courage, strength, bravery, thick skin, and loyalty. Anglo Saxons believed these five characteristics created the perfect image of an Anglo Saxon hero. They believed that a hero should have godly strength and courage during battles and not allow for emotional senses to affect him; hence, the thick skin. Anglo Saxons believed that emotions could distract a hero from his sole purpose in battle. Bravery was also a key characteristic Anglo Saxons believed a hero should have as it was a basic component every hero needed in order to act upon other characteristics like strength and courage successfully. They also believed that an Anglo Saxon hero should be loyal as loyalty kept unity among the people and was the foundation of the Anglo Saxon culture (Trekker2392). Anglo Saxons believed that without loyalty, there would be no unity and trust between people. Betrayal was rare with the Anglo Saxon people (Trekker2392). An Anglo Saxon hero would not betray anyone no matter the circumstance. Other underlying factors still key to an Anglo Saxon hero include the ability to be humble, have an appearance of a warrior, and create strong friendships. Anglo Saxons believed that a hero should look the part, have a great build, and a brave otherworldly appearance (Cascio). If an Anglo Saxon hero did not have the proper build of a warrior, Anglo Saxons may not take him as a serious hero. Humbleness was also key for an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Disk Cache Optimization Using Compressed Caching Technique Disk Cache Optimization using Compressed Caching Technique Maheshwar Sharma Gaurav Rawat, Himanshu Banswal, Naman Monga Department of Computer Science, BVCOE, GGSIP University, New Delhi, India ______________________________________________________________________________ Abstract In this paper we have discussed about the cache and various mapping technique. Then we shift our focus on compressed caching which is the technique that tries to decrease paging request from secondary storage. We know that there is a big performance gap in accessing the primary memory (RAM) and secondary storage (Disk). The Compressed caching technique intercepts the pages to be swapped out, compresses them and stores them in pool allocated in RAM. Hence it tries to fill the performance gap by adding new level to virtual memory hierarchy. This paper analyze the performance of virtual memory compression. Further to avoid various categories of cache misses we discuss different types of cache technique to achieve higher performance. Lastly we discuss few open and challenging issues faced in various cache optimization techniques. Most pirates set out of their illegal harbors with a goal in mind and strive to achieve their goals, while abiding to rules set and regulated by their brethren. The war on pirates was bloody and violent and the victims of piracynumbered in the thousands with casualties almost just as high, however, most pirates in the 1700s were not looting and killing for sport, rather, they were acting out of the direction of their sovereign. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If an act brings more pleasure to a greater amount of people than it does pain, the act in itself (regardless of intent), is ethical and noble. Using Bentham s scope to analyze the actions of these various sects of piracy, we can see the varying status of ethics in each groups dealing. The pirates can be viewed as unethical since their random attacks on multi racial and multi national ships did not benefit any specific country and slowed down trade across the Atlantic Ocean to no one s benefits. Yet, their attacks increased the value of sugar, pelts and tobacco that were the main goods of trade for the struggling colonists. And as shown in both the Taylor book and the textbook packet, the diminishing returns lead many colonists to quit and return to Europe but the pirate attacks allowed their returns to increase exponentially if their ships were unmolested. The balance between their wrong doings and the positive outcomes balances out and, therefore, cannot be judged through Bentham s scope. The buccaneers were more clear cut when viewed in this lighting, their sabotage on Spanish transport not only benefitted the heavily taxed colonists (most stolen goods were reused inside colonized settlements) but the delay in profit also, inadvertently, benefitted England as well. • 19. The Effects Of Drug Market Pulling Levers Policing On... Lastly, we will look at the pulling lever strategy used in High Point. Like the authors say in The Impact of Drug Market Pulling Levers Policing on Neighborhood Violence , the reason why they did this study was to examine the impact of the various place‐based pulling levers interventions that were implemented in High Point (Corsaro, Hunt, Hipple, McGarrell). The reader can interpret from the article that the purpose is to conclude what context is needed for pulling lever strategies to work in deterrence. They go into an in‐depth statistical analysis describing the sensitivity present as there could be things like types of selection biases. Statisticians must be careful when navigating data as we found before where the Panel could not conclude that the pulling lever strategies had a direct relationship between the crimerates. In the article they do come to a conclusion where they find that although pulling levers has shown potential when focused on gangs and groups involved with networks of chronic, violent offenders, far less is known about its capacity to diminish violent crime associated with locally operated street drug markets (Corsaro, Hunt, Hipple, McGarrell). Essentially, it is describing the limitations that are presented with pulling lever strategies. Like multiple of the other articles, they have found that this strategy works for gang related violence. They question whether the strategy would be as effective if it were applied to crime that is associated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even after completing a competency, careful considerations need to be made, in order to produce a diagnostic radiograph. A patient s body habitus, height, age, and overall health can affect the diagnostic information that is present on a radiograph. Additionally, these factors will most certainly affect the manner in which an examination is carried out. Although I have gained a competency on the standard chest examination, these factors require that myself and those around me pay close attention to the needs of the patient. But with the guidance and knowledge of the technologists at Spohn South, I find the efficiency with which I complete exams increasing as the days pass. Recently, I performed a standard chest exam under the supervision of staff technologist, Timothy Rung. As with any examination one of the most important aspects in patient care, is the right patient and right exam. Two patient identifiers were confirmed on the patient, who is a fifty nine year old female. She came to the emergency department because of an acute cough that had been present for over a week. The symptoms present at the time of her arrival included coughing, wheezing, and pain in the lungs. Once the patient was in the examination room the process of the examination was explained to her. The Emotional And Physical Burdens During The Vietnam War Jimmy Cross: the Emotional and Physical Burdens in the Vietnam War War has fascinated since the beginning of time for what they reveal about the human condition in its worst squalor as in its greatness. Maybe Vietnam is best seen through a shattered helicopter windshield. Chickenhawk is one bloody, painfully honest, and courageous book , recognizes Martin Cruz Smith. Chickenhawk is Robert Mason s narrative of personal experience which deals chronologically with his training in Vietnam. Through this description of war, Mason distinguishes the physical part of war and the psychological phase. He also demonstrates that the expressive aspect controls the physical. Consequently, this indication has remained intact. Tim O Brien in his fictional story The Things They Carried, voices the idea that the psychological burdens overshadow the physical pain that the soldiers must carry: They carried all the emotional baggage of men who might die. Grief, terror, love, longing these were intangibles, but the intangibles had their own mass and specific gravity, they had tangible weight (O Brien 926). O Brien claims that horror, longing, responsibility, and uncertainty that the soldiers experience outweigh the physical agony that they must resist to survive, loads that are lightened only a little by the willing to return home. The weight of mental burden that probably weighs the most on the hearts of the men is fear. In the forest of Vietnam, young soldiers are forced to carry ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The film was based on Edgar Allan Poe s short story of the same name . The movie Poe fans might think that the short story has some differences from the film, some reasons would be that the short story is said in first person point of view, while the film has a bunch of different characters. Despite its differences, this movie deserves to be tagged as a Edgar Allan Poe story because it contains suspense, the language and some of the sentences they use is very poetic, and the storyline has horror. The definition of suspense is a state or feeling of excited or anxious uncertainty about what may happen . One can find suspense in the storyline of the film when Don, Catherine, Francis, and Doctor Leon go down to the basement, where Elizabeth and the rest of the Medina family was buried, in curiosity of whether Don Medina buried Elizabeth alive. Suspense is built in the watching of Francis and Dr. Leon taking pic axes to the cemented and brick wall that stands between them and Elizabeth s body. They are suspicious of each other as to why they were placed in the same room together. They are not quick to reveal what sins they have committed on Earth and slowly reveal it one by one. With each of them having different personalities, they clash and become the perfect torturers for each other in hell. Joseph Garcin used to be a journalist and ran a pacifist newspaper. Garcin s death was caused by 12 bullets fired at him. At first, he appeared to be a gentleman who doesn t want to cause trouble to other people around him. The On The Night Of September 11th is AP Government August 13, 2014 AP Government Summer Assignment Benghazi Fall of 2012 on the night of September 11th our United States embassy was attacked in Benghazi. Benghazi is the legislative capital of the country of Libya. Our U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and U.S. Foreign Service Information Management Officer Sean Smith were murdered in the attack on the compound. The attackers were working for and alongside Ahmed Abbu Khattala. That state department in Washington D.C. was heavily criticized for denying additional security and backup to the embassy during the attacks. The decisions made on that fateful night were unfortunately very politically driven. After the fantastic feat by Obama and his administration in killing Osama Bin Laden, it had become very clear that Al Qaida and terrorism in the Middle East was not on the run as our president had stated earlier that year. It was no coincidence that these attacks took place on the anniversary of 9/11. This event shook many Americans, and the way the information was relayed to the American people aroused suspicions about the integrity of our president and his motives. President Obama claimed these attacks were caused by a viral video slamming Islam. It was easy to blame an event on a video and push the truth under the rug. The truth that terrorism was resurging and these terrorists were not afraid to attack Americans. With an upcoming election, the news that Al Qaida may be a force to be reckoned with once ... • 42. Examples Of Deterioration In The Black Cat Deterioration of Morals and Mind in The Black Cat In Edgar Allan Poe s The Black Cat, the unnamed narrator recounts the way his life has fallen apart due to a series of terrifying incidents he has with his pet cat, Pluto. As the story develops, his actions grow more grotesque and immoral as he tries to rid himself of the animal. In one of these instances, a fire forces the narrator to move from his well tended house to a smaller, run down building, which represents the deterioration of his state of mind. In this way, Edgar Allan Poeuses elements of setting to suggest that when people disregard their conscience, the resulting moral and mental decay will end in their retribution. At the beginning of the story, the narrator resides in a well tended house, which acts as a symbol for his fairly healthy state of mind. He describes his house as his entire worldly wealth (139) and states that he has a servant,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, it is too late, and his conscience does not survive his worsened state of mind. Thus, the inner workings of his mind, symbolized by the walls of his house, start to break down, which, in turn, kill the conscience. Consequently, his conscience is burned into his mind as a faint impression of guilt, symbolized by the bas relief on the single standing wall at the head of his bed. Moreover, the use of eyes as a prop strengthens the connection of the cat and his conscience. It is a common saying that eyes are windows to the soul, which becomes the reason why the narrator gouges out Pluto s eye. He does not want his conscience to affect his soul, so he takes out one of its eyes to prevent it from truly seeing his soul. Even though he feels slightly guilty after his violent act, it was, at best, a feeble and equivocal feeling, and the soul remained untouched ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Why were the classical economists so sure that the amount households wished to save would equal the amount businesses wanted to invest? Because of interest rates. In the classical model the interest rate is determined by the demand for and supply of loanable funds, money available to be borrowed. If households desired to save more than investors wanted to borrow, the surplus of funds would drive down the interest rate. Because the interest rate is both the reward households receive for saving and the price businesses pay to finance investment, a declining interest rate would both discourage saving and encourage investment. The interest rate would continue to fall until the amount that households wanted to save once again equaled the amount businesses desired to invest. This project develops a system matches near miss events to similar events allowing an analyst to quickly find the number of prior events and determine how they were audited. Result shows how frequently the near miss occurs. User can have comparison resolution and analysis base on best similar records on safety auditing process. Final system suggests the predicted matches based on first hits stream data; this has been achieved by two step similarity functions, which built and developed similar incidents in web platform using Lucene and Clustering libraries. The K means clustering and logistic regression methods has been trained to be used real time to evaluate final safety scores categorized by labels, and provided label matching in particular safety concept group(s). This combined methodology presents measure of semantic similarity where request for both predefined human labels achieved from previous resolution and implementations. Probabilistic model as similarity on a data set formulated by LDA and BM25 and is implemented by python and java to push data. Nevertheless, Walmart China had been struggling with its sales volume. It was only ranked twentieth in sales out of all the Chinese chain stores in 2005. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The intensity of rivalry is quite high in the Chinese retailing industry. Not only does Walmart China have to compete with all the foreign retailers like Carrefour and Tesco, but also with the local ones. The local retailers pose an even bigger threat to Walmart owing to their well established network and prime locations. Moreover, exposing to foreign competition allows the local retailers to imitate the foreigners techniques and hence improve their own supply chain efficiency. Also, the fact that the local retailers have entrenched customer, supplier and distribution bases, further intensified the rivalry in the retailing industry. (Farhoomand, 2006) Lastly, the presence of income disparity in China makes the national merchandising plan more challenging. China s Gini coefficient of 0.4 suggested that income inequality is at an alarming level. There are poor individuals that cannot even afford buying daily necessity while the affluent customers are constantly looking for luxurious products (Farhoomand, 2006).
