Planning a Solid Waste Management System
Waste Management
Studies have shown that the amount of waste has been increasing dramatically due to the increase of
the worldwide population. There are various types of wastes, such as municipal solid waste, industrial
waste, hazardous waste, sewage waste and many more. As a result of these wastes, necessary
precautions have been taken by the waste management to prevent an environmental impact, which
might cause serious damage for the future generations.

Examples Of Explosionade In To Kill A Mockingbird
While the rest of his friends are busy storming a Horronym fortress in a final assault, first lieutenant
Terry Atticus finds himself all alone back at the base. Apparently his superior didn t take too kindly to
some pipes in the officer s latrine that were accidently reversed by Atticus and thus the hapless
lieutenant is missing out on the biggest battle of all time. However, while rooting around in the supply
room Atticus discovers a prototype mech which he promptly takes into the sewers for some target
practice. Instead of finding the snakebats he was expecting, Atticus discovers a whole bunch of aliens
and takes it upon himself to take them all out.

Killing everything that moves and collecting all the gold is not only more satisfying, but also results in
a better score. For some extra motivation this Steam version of the game also comes with new
leaderboards. In addition to being able to jump and hover for a short period of time your mech also
comes with a handy multi purpose shield. The shield makes you impervious to enemy fire and you can
even bounce enemy grenades off it with good timing. In addition, you can activate your shield just
before hitting the floor or a wall after jumping to perform a nifty shield bounce in order to reach
greater heights. However, the shield overheats very quickly and must recharge between uses.
Although Explosionade is an action packed title it comes with multiple difficulty settings to ensure
players of all skill levels have a fair shot at completing it. Just like the arcade games of old it is
possible to finish all the levels in a very short period of time, but the real challenge comes from
upping the difficulty and increasing the gameplay speed while aiming for a high score. Players who
enjoy beating their own scores or competing with others on the leaderboards will find that
Explosionade has a lot of replay value. The game also features a co op mode, which is a lot of

Life Of Pi Response Research Paper
Write a composition based on literature that you have studied in which the significance of characters

God. The novel, Life of Pi by author Yann Martel is a compelling story that follows a young sixteen
year old boy, Piscine (Pi) Molitor Patel, after the cargo ship transporting them to Canada, the
Tsimtsum, sinks without warning, leaving Pi stuck at sea with only an adult Bengal tiger for company.
Martel develops the notion that behavior and being able to read the body language of others may be
the difference between life and death through direct characterization and allegory. Pi s responses to the
behaviors of Richard Parker signify the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

submissive relationship they had created caused Richard to see Pi as the alpha male, and by extension,
part of his pack. This means that when a member of the pack is attacked, the others will come to the
defense of the harassed member. Pi s treatment of Richard saved his life. The result of Pi s response to
Richard Parker s behavior saved Pi s life numerous times. The peaceful relationship between the two
protagonists helped them both endure 227 days at sea, struggling against all odds. With Pi s prior

Causes And Effects Of PTSD
The death of my father took a big toll on my family and I. We all fell into depression and are often
going in and out of it still. This led me to think about those who suffer in a more egregious manner
and end up experiencing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). I can only empathize to an extent,
but I do know there are many causes and effects of PTSD. PTSD makes a big impact on all who have
it; with its causes and effects and it s because of this that those who suffer from it need help to cope
with it. PTSD is a result of going through something traumatic and/or life changing. The Nebraska

The stress ridden victims can go through re experiencing the event, doing their best to avoid anything
similar to it, feeling numb and isolated towards loved ones due to the fear brought on by the impact,
and can also be on the alert for more danger to arrive (Nebraska Department of Veteran s Affairs).
They can also go through depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and problems functioning after a war.
(Nebraska Department of Veteran s Affairs). Staff Sgt. Eric James was one of the few military
members to be dishonorably discharged due to his mental illness. He went into fits of rage and often
drank due to his PTSD. His therapists were a part of this whole ordeal along with higher ups within
the Army because it took less time and money than therapy. This is not the correct way to help those
with PTSD. These Army veterans can t handle what they have witnessed on their own (Zwerdling). As
mentioned with the causes, they are now on the alert and have stress levels rising when they feel
harmed (NHS). Being taken out of the threatening situation isn t enough to cope with what has
happened. Like with any impact in life, talking and/or working through it helps one s brain to process
what has happened as real, not real; ok or not. While big impacts like this do affect daily lives, small
things can be struggled with as well. A veteran and his wife were worried and discouraged [that] they

Disney s Monopoly
Industry concentration. It s imperative to choose if there s really a danger of a Monopoly, before the
anti trust law takes any action. For those new to the idea, or the individuals who have constantly heard
it was a terrible thing while never knowing why, a Monopoly is thorough control of the whole supply
of products or of a company in a specific region or market, as indicated by Merriam Webster. This
doesn t generally characterize Disney. Disney does not control the rights to all film, TV, and
amusement establishments, nor does it deliberately step out the opposition. Disney is pursuing the
cream of the yield. Disney has dependably had complete knowledge of their audience requirements.
Disney knows precisely what a crowd of people needs even before they even dream of it. So it bodes
well that Disney is using geek culture as its most up to date promoting apparatus. On the off chance
that there are two things geeks and nerds cherish more than anything its superheroes and Star Wars. To

Market Value Analysis Of Local Real Estate Broker
The market value analysis will be either an appraisal by a member of the Appraisal Institute,
opinion(s) of local real estate broker(s), analysis by the General Partner, or some combination of these.
We anticipate that most Loans will be secured by improved or unimproved real property with respect
to which the borrower intends to effect a change in use. The market value analysis for such properties
will usually be supported by a third party appraisal prepared on an as completed basis (i.e., an
appraisal based on the assumption that the intended improvements will be completed). The market
value analysis may also assume that all public improvements will be completed as proposed and that
the property will be marketed and sold in the manner planned by the Borrower.
Finally, the foregoing loan to value ratios may not apply to purchase money financing offered by us to
sell any real property acquired through foreclosure, or to the refinancing of an existing Loan that is in
default at the time of maturity. In such cases, the General Partner may in its sole and absolute
discretion accept any reasonable financing terms that it deems to be in our best interests.
Terms of Loans. The terms of our Loans will vary at the discretion of the General Partner. Our Loans
will generally have a term of between one and two years, but may sometimes have terms of greater

High Fructose Corn Syrup and Obesity in America When I was growing up my mother would always
steer me clear of sugary, unhealthy snacks. So much so that when I finally was able to get a taste of
them, I didn t want to stop. After tasting this new sensation my body craved more. The cereals she
bought paled in comparison to the bright, colorful flavors of the likes of Fruity Pebbles and Trix. She
always bought organic foods and healthy snacks that never tasted quite as good as the sugar blasted
name brand snacks. But my mother was adamant that her way was the best way, and so the organic
food was the way I lived until I got my first job. With my own money I was now able to buy food ...

The panel stated that since the ratio of fructose to glucose had not changed substantially in the United
States since the 1960s when HFCS was introduced, the changes in obesity rates were probably not due
to HFCS specifically, but rather a greater consumption of calories overall. In 2009 the American
Medical Association published a review article on HFCS and concluded it was unlikely that HFCS
contributed more to obesity or other health conditions than sucrose, and there was insufficient
evidence to suggest warning about or restricting use of HFCS or other fructose containing sweeteners
in foods. The review did report that while some studies found direct associations between high intakes
of fructose and other sugars and adverse health outcomes, including obesity and the metabolic
syndrome, there was insufficient evidence to ban or restrict use of HFCS in the food supply or to

Stuff Is Not Salvation Essay
I have really enjoyed being in this English class. Just like the warning we got in the very beginning,
there has been a lot of writing. It was good for me though. I took English 101 over the summer, but
found I had quite a bit of writer s block. It was hard for me to get any kind of energy to write. I found
that interesting because I feel like I like writing is something that is enjoyable to me. With this class,
the activities put forth, meant to help us get the writing gears moving, really worked for me. The first
way we got a jump start was through the article summary assignments based on articles pertaining to
contemporary culture. In all honesty, some of them did cause me to look at things with eyes I had not
used before. One article in particular that sticks out in my mind, is Stuff is Not Salvation, by Anna
Quindlen. Through her use of Ethos, she really brings to light how Americans have this ridiculous
obsession with buying stuff. She notes how we are trying to use junk to make ourselves happier, but in
the end, as Anna puts it, The happiest families I know aren t the ones with the most square footage
(Qtd in Perspectives pg 503). Before reviewing this article, I considered myself someone who didn t
necessarily NEED stuff, but as the assignment went on, I realized how bad it really has gotten for us
as a society. Another article that really made me think was the argumentative article, In Defense of
Sweatshops, by Benjamin Powell. When I first read the title of

When you think of aircraft, most likely you think of jets, helicopters, and maybe UFOs. The history of
flight has produced many varied designs because people did not know how to fly and there were
numerous ideas on how to make flight work. We are used to seeing jets and helicopters now, but in the
beginning, there were a variety of prototypes based on the needs at the time. There has actually been
fierce competition during the invention phases of planes. One thing that you will notice is that the
Hughes H4 Hercules, or Spruce Goose, as it was commonly known, is not included here. That is not to
say that it was not an amazine aircraft with an interesting history, and its story is actually similar to
many described here. However, the ones chosen are very peculiar looking by any standards, while the

Netjets -Customer Service Excellence. Ncfe Lovel 3
NCFE Level 3 Customer Service Excellence
UNIT 1
Task 1
Why Is Service Excellence Important To Your Organisation?
Netjets is a worldwide network of shared aircraft. This is defined as fractional ownership. Customers
make a large investment in a share of a private jet. In relation to the size of their share, they receive a
number of hours flying per year, and they own that asset, the value of which can go up or down. The
customer is also liable for management fees and an occupied hourly flying fee. The customer is
therefore making a very significant investment and expects the highest levels of satisfaction.
Netjets is a customer driven organisation. They do not solely compete on price or product. Customers
are willing to pay a higher ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We can deliver a better experience for our owners at a lower cost. This can be done by doing
everything with the customer in mind, balancing all stakeholders values, integrating operational
excellence skills in everything we do and listening to our customers and to each other.
The Cost Savings Initiative in conjunction with Operational Excellence continues to remain a top
priority for the company. The initiative entails the dedication of all departments. Out of the 215
different proposals, 60 percent have been completed while an additional 26 percent are on track to be
completed by year end. The completed proposals have so far exceeded $46 million and will be
reflected in the 2010 gross savings. CSI is an ongoing process working in parallel with the five year
plan to ensure the stability and profitability of Netjets.
Access and Slots Allocation
After safety, the most important aspect of our service for our owners is the ability to go where they
want, when they want. In 2008, 80 % of all Pre flight negative experiences were due to slot issues.
This means that access at airports is very important to us. We must try to get guaranteed access in
airports where there is a high volume of traffic. 44% of our business is in London, Paris and
Switzerland. Airports around London are particularly complicated in terms of slots.
Netjets has launched the slot optimisation project, a cross departmental

Analysis Of Siegfried Sassoon s They And Men
Thematic Unit 3 Throughout History, a major tragedy caused the world to become chaotic, which lead
to millions of brave individuals to lose their life. This horrific tragedy, World War 1 (the Great War),
was the beginning of a long terrible journey. Many strong and mighty men volunteered to join the War
with the persuasion of being Hero s . These men did not realize the terror they would face when
walking into this journey. Many soldiers was faced with seeing their fellow soldiers cold blood drip
from their acing bodies, their loving eyes becoming raged with anger by the conditions of their
sleeping arrangements, and their hopes of ever returning home or being a normal human being was
wiped clean. This was the beginning of a major change of the lives of all individuals throughout the
world. Before the War, many soldiers mindset was that this war would turn them into hero s and men .
A poet, Siegfried Sassoon, wrote the famous poem They , explained, The Bishop (authority) tells us:
when the boys come back/ they will not be the same (1 2). These lines symbolize how many or all
soldiers were encouraged to join the War because they will come out a better individual, and everyone
will look up to them. Many of these fellow soldiers entered the war singing, but suddenly realized the
words given by an authority figure was all wrong, which led them to trusting no one. So, before the
war men were chosen to fight and given the encouragement of becoming a hero, then the

of Latter Day Saints. They are more commonly known as Mormons or just LDS. We are going to learn
about what Mormons view of beliefs of creation and death. At the end of the paper we will look at
how Mormonism compares to my current religions views. However, we need to understand how
Mormonism started and some of the main beliefs they currently hold. Mormonism was founded by
Joseph Smith in the mid 19th century Northeast United States. The largest Mormon religious body is

But what I have found is that, while I do occasionally go to an Assembly of God Church which is
Christian based. What sticks out to me though in doing the research in dealing with death, that can
also help me move forward and find that connection with God and the mourning for my father.
Mourning not only is appropriate; it is also one of the deepest expressions of pure love:..... Mourning
can heighten our faith and our hopes. The Prophet Joseph Smith said, The expectation of seeing my
friends in the morning of the resurrection cheers my soul and makes me bear up against the evils of
life. It is like their taking a long journey, and on their return we meet them with increased joy
(Gillespie, K. L. (2011, May 27).) This to me is the biggest difference from my understanding of my
religion. I have always felt that as long as I said I believed in God and was typically a good person, I
would go to heaven and meet up with my family. However, for Mormonism, it is not as simple. You
have to dedicate your life to God, and to your family. That is the reason why going on these
missionaries are so important to them. You are giving back to others that are in need and are working
to spread the knowledge from the gospel not only about creation and how to deal with death, but
everything in between. While not specifically pertaining to death and

The English Common Law System
The English common law system is obliged to comply with the rights and obligations under the
Human Rights Act Convention. Even though they are not bound by it has been advised by the House
of Lords to harmonise or comply with the Conventions, on a equivalent basis which is no more, but
certainly no less . The Convention does not guarantee damages for violations that have occurred
between private parties, it only protects them against the public authorities, thus only binding states.
Generally the HRA awards damages for rights violated under the Convention which are minimal when
compared to the compensation awarded under English tort law. Enabling courts to sustain their

Therefore the s. 6 under the HRA Convention maintains an indirect horizontal effect rather than a
horizontal one. It was presumed that a uniform approach to be upheld by the UK courts, but this
approach was only in theory that HRA would be somehow incorporated into the domestic law and
where necessary could be reformed by a judiciary, and in practice the opposite had occurred.
Prior to 1998, under the common law right to privacy did not reinforce a failure to compensate
individuals for breach of their privacy. After the HRA came into force, the first critical case was faced
by the English courts in the case of Catherine Zeta Jones case concluded there was a breach of
confidence. The reason that lay behind this harmonisation was that protection for individual privacy
was the equivalent of protecting individual autonomy established by the omissions principle. In this
area of law, the courts have provided a remedy at a domestic level by incorporating s.7 of the HRA.
It is quite contradictory that the common law now mirrors the Conventions rights with regards to
breach of confidence, but takes a more conservative approach whilst dealing with a more crucial
matter in relating to article 2. Where without a right to life a secondary right to privacy is null. In most
civil law jurisdictions there is no line of distinction drawn between private individuals and public
authorities when it comes to imposing a liability for negligence. However the UK case law

Cultural Consideration Paper
Cultural Consideration Western generational models can not be applied broadly to a global workforce.
(Erickson, 2011, p. 1) The events that shaped the generations in the United States did not necessarily
happen around the world. Other countries and cultures have had their own monolithic events to shape
their beliefs and character. While events such as World War II did happen globally, not every country
was involve in that war and did not have the same experience as say people in the United Kingdom
and United States might have had. The potential exception to this rule is the proposed Generation Y
and Millennials who have globally had access to the same information due to increasing availability of
technology. In a recent email report ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As new employees come in to an organization there should be a uniform way to impart information to
help the individual assimilate to the corporate culture as quickly as possible. In an effort to gain
consistency this usually means that people come in and get a crash course on systems and logistics.
Traditionalist may prefer a mentor with similar ideals. Baby Boomers may want a structured training
session. Generation Xers may prefer an online training class and Millennials might prefer something
in a group setting so they can start building relationships. So how does a corporation efficiently and
effectively offer all of these options? They usually can not separately, but components of each can be
integrated into an onboarding and development plan so that all people are receiving the key
information in a way that they best assimilate such information. Situational Leadership Situational
Leadership was a model originally developed by Paul Hersey and Ken Blanchard to effectively assess
what each person needs from leadership on each task. (Hersey, 2004) Dr. Hersey and Blanchard parted
ways and put their own spin on the same model but it still stands that it works and can be applied to
any person of any age with any task. The key is that the leader has to be perceptive and fluid in
leadership styles. One of the reasons

Similarities Between The Declaration Of The Rights Of Man...
The Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen was written in 1789, following the gory French
Revolution. In a similar setting, the United Declaration of Human Rights was written in 1948 in a
direct reaction to the horrors of World War II. Both of these documents were motivated by experiences
of extreme tyranny and carnage, and were created to recognize the fundamental freedom and rights of
the individual. Their goal was to establish a basic guideline of ethics; for France this was for their
country and government, but for the United Nations, their objective was to encompass the entire
world. It was hoped that these declarations would bring about peace within an individual nation, but
also promote cordial relations between all nations. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These differences are both warranted when considering the times in which these declaration were
made. After coming out of such traumatic experiences, both parties wanted to create a society of
equality and build a basic structure of the rights of man. This was something that in both situations
had been previously taken for granted, but could now be acknowledged and used to hold individuals
and governments accountable. The two declarations are very similar in their purpose, they advocate
for the rights and freedoms of man, and establish a set of laws that must be followed in order to create
a society of peace, equality, justice and individual freedom. Both acknowledge that when these

The Selfless Hero And Odysseus As A Hero
A hero is someone who does selfless courageous acts. This statement refers to a great amount of
people in the world. There are many heroes in the world and they come in all different shapes and
sizes. For some there is no badge or reward for what they do and they still do it. Homer s epic poem,
The Odyssey, Odysseus can be known as a hero. He performed acts in order to protect his crew and
his family. Odysseus is a fictional character. Doc Hendley is a real life hero who created a foundation
to help those without water. Both of these character displayed characteristics of a hero. A true hero
completes selfless courageous acts despite the obstacles they pose without expecting any reward.
In the epic The Odyssey the main character, Odysseus, could be described as an hero. The decisions
that he made were made for the sake of his pride but also for the sake of his crew. Although Odysseus
made decisions for the sake of his pride he always put his crew first. On the island of the lotus eaters
Odysseus demonstrates his heroism and leadership. When two of Odysseus s men go out and explore
the island they are offered to eat the lotus flower and they do. So the rest of his crew doesn t get
influenced by the Lotus Eaters Odysseus calls them back on ship and ties down the others that ate the
lotus flower. In this situation Odysseus put his crew first and got them of the island as quick as
possible . On the island of the cyclops Odysseus made a call on behalf of his pride but also

7. ANALYTICAL METHODS
The purpose of this chapter is to describe the analytical methods that are available for detecting,
measuring, and/or monitoring chlorine dioxide and chlorite, its metabolites, and other biomarkers of
exposure and effect to chlorine dioxide and chlorite. The intent is not to provide an exhaustive list of
analytical methods. Rather, the intention is to identify well established methods that are used as the
standard methods of analysis. Many of the analytical methods used for environmental samples are the
methods approved by federal agencies and organizations such as EPA and the National Institute for
Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). Other methods presented in this chapter ... Show more

The absorbance is proportional to the concentration of the chlorine dioxide in water. Indicators used
for this technique include N,N diethyl p phenylenediamine, chlorophenol red, and methylene blue
(APHA 1998; Fletcher and Hemming 1985; Quentel et al. 1994; Sweetin et al. 1996). For example,
chlorophenol red selectively reacts with chlorine dioxide at pH 7 with a detection limit of 0.12 mg/L.
The interferences from chlorine may be reduced by the addition of oxalic acid, sodium cyclamate, or
thioacetamide (Sweetin et al. 1996). APHA Method 4500 CLO2 B, iodometric titration analysis,
measures the concentration of chlorine dioxide in water by titration with iodide, which is reduced to
form iodine. Iodine is then measured colorimetrically when a blue color forms from the production of
a starch iodine complex. The detection limit for this method is 20 µg/L (APHA 1998).

Summary Of Alistair Macleod s The Boat
The Dilemma Between Tradition and Opportunity Through the angle in the screen door I saw my
father who had been walking into his room wheel around on one of his rubber booted heels and look at
her with his blue eyes flashing like clearest ice beneath the snow that was his hair. His usually ruddy
face was drawn and grey, reflecting the exhaustion of a man of sixty five who had been working in
those rubber boots for eleven hours on an August day, and for a fleeting moment I wondered what I
would do if he killed my mother while I stood there in the porch with those three foolish mackerel in
my hand. Then he turned and went into his room and the radio blared forth the next day s weather
forecast and I retreated under the noise and returned again, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

When Macleod talks about the father s blue eyes flashing like clearest ice beneath the snow that was
his hair (228) the reader has a picture painted in their mind. This sentence uses imagery to put
emphasis behind the glare of the father s eyes. The word ice also has a second effect as it can refer to
the cold heartedness and fuming temper of the father in the passage. Imagery continues to be used by
Macleod as he continues on the reader is told that the father s usually ruddy face was drawn and grey
(228). The father s face was mentioned on a few occasions throughout the story as the reader hears
mention of his sunburnt face (230) just a couple pages later on. The reiteration of a small detail like
this brings emphasis back to the original passage. In order for his face to look drawn and grey
circumstances must be dire. Imagery is in many forms of writing and when used correctly, as in this
passage, it elevates the writing and draws emphasis to specific parts of the story that could be easily
missed without it. Imagery clearly shows the tense manner of this

OF MICE AND MEN (CRUELTY)
All cruelty springs from weakness, said Lucius Annaeus Seneca. To me, this quote means that cruelty
comes out from a person who is feeling weak. A big question people ask each other is Why are people
cruel to each other? In John Steinbeck s novel, Of Mice and Men, there are many incidents of cruelty.
Cruelty appeared in the book when George yells at the mentally handicapped Lennie in the beginning
of the book. This trend of cruelty continues throughout the book. Characters that were notably cruel in
the book are Curley, Curley s wife, and George. The three things that motivate people to be cruel in
the book are: when people feel they are powerless, when a person wants a feeling of short term

In Steinbeck s novel, when individuals feel like someone doesn t belong with them, their instinct is to
treat that person cruelly. Crooks is a black stable buck that is discriminated against throughout the
book because of his race. The other men believe that Crooks doesn t belong because of his skin color,
so they make him sleep with the horses. As a result of the torment they put him through, Crooks
becomes a very bitter person. When he is talking to Lennie in the stable Crooks tells him, They play
cards in there, but I can t play because I m black. They say I stink. (68) Their intentions are cruel.
They treat Crooks like he is an animal. They feel uncomfortable around him, so they just ignore him
completely. Crooks gets fed up with all of the negative treatment and his heart hardens. He feels like

Japanese Female Apparel Market For Japanese Women Essay
While the bubbly outfits with overflowing laces and floral patterns that highlight the soft and sensitive
characteristics once dominated the female apparel market in Japan, nowadays, Japanese women prefer
balancing out the femininity with some stylish mannish clothing. Figure 3, where the woman matched
her black lace dress and high heels with an olive green military jacket, perfectly exemplifies the chic
甘辛ミックスコーデ (The sweet and sexy coordinates) adored by many Japanese female consumers.
The concept of 甘辛ミックス is so well received in Japan because it spices up the overall look with
an exquisite aesthetic balance. Known for wanting to break away from the mainstream, young
Japanese female quickly adopted MA 1 jacket and the girly military look as a mean to expressive their
individualism in contradiction to social norms. As a result, MA 1 jacket has slowly become a
wardrobe staple for Japanese young women.
Another significant aspect of MA 1 jacket that helps it secure its top ranked position is its ability to
casual down a dressy outfit. Directly translated from the Japanese made English word, カジュアルダ

clothing (FASHION PRESS). A notable change in style has swept over Japan when people began to
embrace apparels that value both comfort and personal style. According to a survey conducted by

Harry James Motivation
As soon as 1939 when he had joined Harry James music makers, a frenzy of female fans ensued.
Connie Haines, a singer who began working with Harry James at the time, recalled the reaction of fans
after Frank s first performance with James; After the first show, the screaming started in the theater,
and those girls came backstage. There were about twenty of them... it happened, it was real, it was not
a gimmick (Kaplan 76). The biggest height of the hysteria had to have been in October of 1944: the
Paramount/Columbus Day Riot. Around 30,000 of Sinatra s fans, many of which were teenage girls
nicknamed bobbysoxers, lined up for his show at the Paramount Theatre in Times Square (Doyle). The
amount let in was over the safe capacity and thousands more waited outside for shows later on in the
day. However, only a few hundred would leave from the previous shows causing a frenzy to ensue
outside; over 400 people from the police department were stationed for the day s chaotic events
(Kaplan 227).

intimate connection Frank emitted to them. Writer Francis Davis ... Show more content on

1960 s Popular Culture

Music has long been an expression of cultures and an indicator of the multi cultural nature around the
world. It s common purpose to bring people together and affecting society by the type of music people
listen to and which emotions they are feeling at that time. Music was a powerful cultural force in the
1960 s. It is evident that the social climate of this time period shaped music. It was no surprise that
there were important generational, racial, gender, class, regional and ideological differences, and these
included bands and their audiences and within the entertainment industry it s self deep social tensions

This fragmentation benefited both the Beatles and the record industry, because the demand for Beatles
music at the height of Beatlemania was so insatiable that it s not clear that Capitol could have released
enough music fast enough to fulfill all the consumer demand for it. In addition, as the Beatles became
more successful, the record industry as a whole benefited. Out of every dollar in revenue spent on
records in 1964, 60 cents out of that dollar were spent on Beatles records alone.
One result is that the story of Decca Records turning down the Beatles became a cautionary tale
throughout the record industry. Nobody wanted to be that guy, the guy that turned down the next
incarnation of the Beatles, the guy who gave away the golden goose that laid golden records. For this
reason, executives in the record business started becoming a lot more willing to take chances on
musical innovations. And since the Beatles were increasing record sales across the board, there was a
lot more money to go around to fund musical

The Impacts of Decisions and Outcomes in Hernando Tellez’s...
As human beings, it is inevitable to face moral dilemmas in life. When it comes to decision making of
a complex situation, individuals often consider their own values and consequences to their actions.
Hernando Tellez s Lather and Nothing Else and Edith Pargeter s The Purple Children demonstrate the
conflicts a person has with themselves when approached with a challenging situation which requires
decision making. The barber from Lather and Nothing Else and the sentry from The Purple Children
demonstrate the importance of placing one s own values as a priority when making a difficult choice
because it will allow the individual to make peace with the outcome. Individuals who give more worth
to penalties that would put themselves at risk than those costs that do not affect them as much are
more likely to be content with their decisions. For example, the temptation of murder that the Barber
felt when shaving Captain Torres was overruled by the punishments that the Barber would have to
encounter, He wouldn t suffer. But what would I do with the body? Where would I hide it? I d have to
run, leaving all of this, take cover far, far away. But they would follow me until they ran into me.

E-Commerce Is Bad for People and the Economy
Have you wasted your money in online shopping? Online shopping, or e commerce, is buying or
selling goods and services on the internet. Electronic commerce is a complex process and it doesn t
provide jobs, quality of products and communication. Electronic commerce is bad for people and the
economy.
Buying from internet is complex process, because you need experience or knowledge on shopping
online. It also need to know what are the security websites that you can shop from them. It is not easy
process because it aids credit card and it is hard to have this card, for example if you are teenager may
your parents will not allow you to have his card. You also may need post fax to deliver your products
and it will take a lot of times, for example two weeks. Buying from internet need internet connection,
so if you live in city, town or village where the connection is low you need to go to other place where
the connection is high, for example coffee shops.
Electronic commerce does not provide jobs for people. In electronic commerce three or four people
can work only. You can find robots do all works so no need for people. If we use only electronic
commerce to shop and disappear all stores then joblessness will increase because many people can
work in one store, I read with interest this morning an alarmist statement from National Retail

Movements Throughout History Led by Farmers and the...
The populist movement occurred in the late 19th century, formed from the Grangers movement where
its goal was ta movement for people, to change the economic system where it would benefit farmers.
The grange movement rapidly declined in the 1870s and was replaced by the farmer alliances. The
farmer alliances were more political rather then social. The farmer s alliance later formed the populist.
The populist movement is considered to be an agrarian revolt by farmers and those concerned with
agriculture, because in the gilded age many people were moving to rural areas where banks and
industrial systems were superior over agriculture. The high tariffs, decentralization of currency, and
decreasing crop prices were hurting the farmers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

progressive was a separated part of the Republican Party and were made up of either party and mostly

Advantages Of Self-Driving Car
Should Self Driving Cars Become a Normal Method of Transportation?
Through improvements of technology during the 21st century, new inventions to the modern day car
have been applied and the future has arrived. The self driving car facilitates the idea that humans don t
have to drive the car, but rather the car can drive itself. The cars recently debuted after being a concept
in the making for several years. One example of the car in the making is Tesla, a car producing
company, that initiated a test run of these cars calling the setting, autopilot (Source 3). The setting
allowed the driver to sit back and relax as the car attempted to drive without assistance. The self
driving car should be a normal mode of transportation because they reduce accidents, are accessible to
all ages, and are cost efficient. Self driving cars prevent accidents by reacting to stimuli faster than
humans. Associated Press writes, The system can brake when it spots obstacles and keep cars in lanes.
(Source 3) The cars can sense and save one when falling asleep from a long road trip or simply a night
out. Furthermore, less accidents result in less traffic, which will result in decongested roads. The ...

The Talented Prokofiev And Beethoven Essay
Samantha Davis MUSIC 1302 Professor Eldridge The Talented Prokofiev and Beethoven Throughout
history, many musicians and composers made a great impact on the musical world as we know it
today. Some of the greats were Sergei Prokofiev and Beethoven. Even though they came in different
time periods, they both made a huge impact on the musical world. Sergei Prokofiev was a 20th
century Russian composer. His father, Sergei Alekseievich Prokofiev, was an agriculturalist and his
mother, Mariya Zitkova, was a self taught pianist. Since his mother was a pianist, he found the love
for music at a young age. Prokofiev composed his first opera at the age of 9, and when he was around
13 years old, Prokofiev attended St. Petersburg Conservatory to study composition. Prokofiev wrote in
many genres including ballets, operas, symphonies, and even film music. He has played and lived in
many countries including Russia, America, and Itlay. Throughout his career, many of Prokofiev s
work brought him great recognition. However, his Piano Concerto No. 3(1921) marked one of the
peaks of his dynamic national style. This concerto was dedicated to his friend Boris Bashkirov.
Prokofiev s Piano Concerto No. 3 was written during the time when he wandered from Russia because
of the Bolshevik Revolution. This piece is the most carefully crafted of his early Concertos. The
structure is one movement, the music is tonal, and it is the shortest of Prokofiev s concertos. It

filmmakers all over the world have experimented with breaking the norm and trying new ways to

Act I, the screenwriter sets up the story, establishes character, launches the dramatic premise (what the

At the end of the first act there is a turning point, also known as the inciting incident , that signals the

Sigma And The Cost Of Quality
Introduction
Six Sigma and the Cost of Quality to a manufacturing company is a systematic approach that increases
profits and improves customer satisfaction rates by eliminating the root cause for defects or errors in
all processes, by creating new and more effective processes. To the health care company, The Cost of
Quality may look and feel slightly different, yet in many ways both are the same. Both companies may
operate and produce different products, and operate in two different market segments, both are
concerned with delivering customer driven quality products or services in the most cost effective
manner. Therefore, if we use a comparative analysis and the Six Sigma standard problem solving
methodologies and apply it to the Costs of Quality , Six Sigma Project Selection and the role of The
Green Belt we know that each looks to eliminate the root cause of defects and poor customer
satisfaction scores. We will discuss these similarities and the differences in manufacturing and in
health care and the importance of determining who the Voice of the Customer (VOC) is, to responding
quickly to any sudden market change or in customer driven demand changes and for each current
customer, lost customer, or any future customers.
Similarities in The Cost of Quality
The cost of quality in a manufacturing company versus a health care company is identifying the areas
of similarities and differences in their use of a cumulative cost of a quality measurement system.

Familial Mediterranean Fever
Familial Mediterranean Fever (FMF) is an autosomal recessive disorder, characterized by recurrent
and self limited episodes of fever, abdominal pain, synovitis and pleuritis, lasting 1 3 days (Shohat and

experience their first symptoms before the age of 10 years old and 90%, before reaching the age of 20
years (Onen, 2006). Amyloid A (AA) amyloidosis remains as the main long term complication with a
severe manifestation and poor prognosis. Amyloidosis of the AA type commonly occurs among
untreated patients with more than 15 years old, even among those who do not have a history of

sure wouldn t be his last. Although he was not real, Knickerbocker was a historian that seemed to be in
love with the people and landscape of the northeast, particularly New York. Even though Irving never
revealed it, some of his characteristics may be found within Knickerbocker s writing. Washington
Irving was born in New York City in 1783, he always had an appreciation of the land and people from
there. Irving was quite opposed to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another story that was found among the papers of Diedrich Knickerbocker was The Legend of Sleepy
Hollow. Both of these stories are tall tales that Irving wrote as entertainment for his readers, but he
mentioned in both that these were stories told to Knickerbocker by people of Dutch origin, he made
sure that the reader knew that. In both of these stories Irving describes the incredible scenery of New
York, and he also describes the kindness and simplicity of the Dutch people. In Rip Van Winkle he
says he happened upon a genuine Dutch family, snugly shut up in its low roofed farmhouse, under a
spreading sycamore (Irving 573). He also describes a great mountain setting in New York When the
weather is fair and settled, they are clothed in blue and purple, and print their bold outlines on the
clear evening sky; but, sometimes, when the rest of the landscape is cloudless, they will gather a hood
of gray vapors about their summits, which, in the last rays of the setting sun, will glow and light up
like a crown of glory. Diedrich Knickerbocker s conception of authorship was heroic. The business of
writing was a perilous enterprise, and only those who were dauntless and daring could succeed in their
quest for fame. Writers were intrepid knights who courageously confronted all difficulties and
hardships as they journeyed toward publication, a textual pilgrimage that required

Analysis Of Alain De Boordon s The Consolations Of Philosophy
What is popular is not inherently true. That is what Alain De Botton is trying to show his readers
through his work, The Consolations of Philosophy. While there are many beliefs that are well known
and shared amongst a vast community, they can always be questioned, and if they can be questioned,
there may be an exception. De Botton states that the reason people do not question our societies
beliefs and values is fear of rejection by one s peers and the community as a whole; just as Socrates
was. However, some things that we, as a community, hold to be true are true and should not be
questioned, at times it is more important to stick to one s moral compass rather than question a
societies laws. Not wanting to be alienated from society is something we fear as individuals because
many people do not want to live their lives alone, being a part of a community can be important to
some people and while that can be questioned, it does not mean it is a bad thing. Being able to
question society allows for one to think for themselves and find their own beliefs rather than accepting
the ones from the environment they were born into. Today, the world is so diverse, with a range of
different and even contradictory beliefs on what is true, questioning them is The main argument
presented in De Botton s reading is that what is popular is not always true. Every society has a set of
beliefs they hold to be true and important. People will act according to these beliefs because it is
shown to them throughout their lives that this is the correct way to behave; going against the status
quo can result in unpopularity (De Botton, 2000, p9). The fear of rejection and unpopularity is strong
within each society, most individuals believe that it is important to be apart of a community, being
exiled from one would result in loneliness and most societal conventions, like marriage, revolve
around not being alone. Society tends to put pressure on people to marry, people who do not can be
seen as deficient and not to create one s own family can be a great source of anxiety for some
(Blackmore, 2005, p327), it is seen as important to not be alone in one s life. Even De Botton states,
My priority was to be liked, rather than to speak the

Credibility is a very important thing for a person to have. A person that has credibility is a person who
you can trust and believer in. You can have credibility for different things. For example, Bill Gates has
a great amount of credibility with electronics. Demi Lovato shows why credibility is an important
quality and how their actions can affect it. Demi Lovato s career started when she was six years old on
the children s show Barney Friends (Demi Lovato s Career). She was on the show for two seasons. In
2006, Lovato had a couple small roles on different televisions shows. She also starred is Disney s
television short series As the Bell Rings in 2007 for one season. Lovato s first big break was in 2008
when she starred in the Disney Channel movie Camp Rock with the Jonas Brothers. Later that year,
she released her debut album Don t Forget, which she advertised when she opened for the Jonas

Lovato s Career). In 2010 she starred in Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam. Shortly after, she had to quit
Sonny With a Chance when she entered rehab. In November of 2010, Lovato entered a treatment
facility after she got in a fight with one of her dancers (Demi Lovato 1). She went out partying with
some of the band and crew members and Lovato assumed that the dancer told on her. When Demi
went to the dancer to ask about the situation, she hit the dancer. Immediately following the

How Did The Revolutionary War Start
Corey G Reason why The Revolutionary War started Some people might wonder how The
Revolutionary War was started. The revolutionary war was started from both sides. The colonists did
somethings to cause the war to start as well as the British. Some reason why the war was started was
because of taxes, The events the colonists started and The Intolerable act. One great reason the war
was started was because of taxes. One thing that caused a lot of of taxes was because of The Stamp
Act, this act angered the colonists and caused a lot of protests in the colonies. Another huge tax was
the Declaratory Act, which allowed the british to tax them and the british took advantage the act
because they then made the townshend act which taxed the colonies for many things. The last tax was
the tea tax. The tea tax was a tax on tea which made the colonist furious which led to one of the
biggest events in history. If the colonists never taxed the colonists as much as they did then the war

supply ship and threw the tea overboard causing on of the first revolutions from the colonists. After
the boston tea party a bunch of peoples from the colonies decided to make a congress of
representatives from the colonies with one main goal, to gain independence from the british. THe

1. Testing network failure: We cut the network and blocked all traffic to the primary storage instance
while continuing to write to the Redis database test instance. The ONTAP standby storage node
quickly took over for the primary instance and we were notified that our environment was not healthy.
The system remained functional for the duration of the test.

Psychoanalytic Techniques In Tim Burton s Films
Tim Burton Stylistic Essay
Tim Burton is a director that uses an excellent assortment of stylistic techniques. Many authors and
directors use a pattern of style traits, however, Tim Burton s traits are probably the most noticeable
when watching his movies compared to other movies made by different directors. Tim Burton is the
man who made the movies Edward Scissorhands, Vincent, Alice In Wonderland, and The Nightmare
Before Christmas, all movies that depict a dark and eerie tone. Tim Burton repeatedly uses the stylistic
techniques that connect the movies and make a dark, gentle horror and child like tone, such as
costumes/makeup that cast an appearance different than what most others would make a person or
thing look like, characters that are child like and essentially innocent, imagery is also used to portray
the dark, along ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You will notice that most of the characters that are people have the same traits: pale skin, dark circles
under their eyes, light hair or blonde and are white or probably from European decent. This is seen in
Edward Scissorhands, when you first see Edward you notice his pale white skin and the ghostly dark
circles under his doe eyes. If it weren t for Edward s doe brown eyes, you would have assumed he was
dead. All of these characteristics, except for the doe eyes, make the characters in Tim Burton s films
look like corpses which gives the gentle horror tone. The doe eyes are what gives Edward a sense of
child like innocence that expresses the main tone in this movie. You will recognize some of these same
characteristics in Alice In Wonderland. In this movie, everyone in the real world is white, pale, blonde
or brown hair, never black or black hair, they also have the dark circles under their eyes. In Alice In
Wonderland, you wouldn t be able to tell Alice from the rest by how she looks, it is more how she
talks, which is more under the category of

Fibromyalgia Summary
Chapter 1
History of Fibromyalgia
Brief History of Nervous System Disorders
The systematical correlation and illustration of neurological diseases were made in the 19th century by
Philippe Pinel and Xavier Bichat in France. In the United Kingdom, Matthew Baillie, Robert Hooper,
Charles Bell, Richard Bright, Joseph Swan, Robert Carswell and James Hope penned the 1832
Anatomy Act. Thomas Willis conducted examinations of the nervous system through both an analysis
of symptoms and clinical observations. Robert Whytt examined the pupil. James Parkinson studied the
tremor. Moritz Romberg, William Gowers, Carl Wernicke, and Hermann Oppenheim wrote manuals
and textbooks. Monographs first appeared in 1920.
Willis described neurological disorders, revealing the clinical methodology becoming the basis of
modern medicine. He studied seizures (partial seizures, epilepsy, and movement disorders) asserting
they are a consequence of activity in the brain. Willis also classified hysteria as a brain disorder. He
penned descriptions of headache, apoplexy, neurosyphilis, narcolepsy, paracusis, mental retardation,
and other psychiatric disorders.
Whytt distinguished nervous, hypochondria, and hysteria diseases. Gowers wrote A Manual of Disease
of the Nervous System, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
History of Fibromyalgia
Fibromyalgia (FM) is not a new disease. FM has existed for centuries. Hippocrates used the term
rheumatismos for the first time in 400 BC, as a description of pain. About AD 200, Galen, a Greek
physician, wrote about widespread pain and called it rheuma. In the 16th century FM was called
muscular rheumatism, with distinction between articular rheumatism with deformation and painful but
not deforming tissue musculoskeletal disorders.
The Biblical figure Job may have been the first recorded case of FM. He was described as having
months of pain, day and night. This may be the earliest description of a fibromyalgia like

Should Fantasy Sports Be Legalized
State of New York vs DraftKings and FanDuel
Intro
Since the inception of fantasy sports companies, very few industries have grown this significantly in
such a short time span. Amidst the growth in popularity of daily fantasy betting FanDuel and
DraftKings are aggressively expanding to reach the 51 million current fantasy sports users in the US
and Canada alone. Although fantasy sports companies are growing in popularity they are also
experiencing increased scrutiny. Criticism stems from the belief that daily fantasy sports betting
should be illegal or heavily regulated at the state level since it is considered to be online gambling.
Background
In December 2015, amidst the discontent, attorney general Eric Schneiderman filed a lawsuit ... Show

By observing the recent growth in popularity of fantasy sports, there is no doubt that the market will
eventually have to be regulated or deemed illegal. However, given the growth in appetite for sports
gambling delegitimizing the regulated industry would simply lead to a surge in illegal gambling.
According to an ESPN survey, approximately 38% of Americans admitted to betting on sports in
2008.
The fact that the outcome is only determined partially by skill proves that their business model
comprises of betting and is therefore illegal according to law in the state of New York.
DraftKings and FanDuel argue that since a small minority of costumers amass a majority of the
victories there is a significant level of skill involved.
They are pushing to convince the court that the players have an effect on the outcome of the game and
therefore the outcome is based on skill.
What is interesting about this case is the fact that the destiny of a whole industry that is dominant in
New York is dependent on this verdict.
The court s interpretation of the law is the key aspect of this case as it will determine whether the
companies activities are legal or

Pros And Cons Of Zoo s Involvement In Wildlife Conservation
Animal captivation has been an on going debate for many years. The idea of taking wildlife from their
homes, in many eyes, is tragic. To others, it is a step in the right direction. It is a step towards, not only
well developed and in depth research, butalso a step towards the conservation of endangered species.
As one can tell, these views can be quite disputable, however this paper will discuss and compare both
perspectives as well as dive into more specific aspects of wildlife captivity. Some of these aspects
include the lifespan comparisons, specific roaming necessities per animal and even changes in animal
behavior. Of course, keeping animals in captivity has pros and cons. Given that researchers are still
uncertain of captivity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This collection of sources includes mostly online articles as well as several news articles and books.
The sources range from the discussions of the lifespan of numerous animals tothe reasoning behind
study observations and research. In Zoos Involvement in Wildlife Conservation, Ramsey begins by
explaining the comparison between the beginning of animal captivity to the modern day
characteristics. He describes the very first zoos as having the focus to gain profit from the public,
rather than the concentration being towards the welfare of the animal. Today, the well being of animals
is the top priority in many programs across the world. Not only does this article also describe the
challenges that the programs must face, but also the difficult decisions the leaders are required to
make to continue their success in advanced research and conservation. Some of which include the
decision on whether or not to offer predators live prey to exert their natural hunting instincts. The
source concludes by informing the audience that some species could not have survived without the
help and involvement of zoos. Vittania.org emphasizes the effects on animals in captivity in its article
21 Pros and Cons of Zoos. This source explains how zoos provide educational learning, preservation
of endangered animals to prevent extinction, humane treatment towards the animals, readily available
veterinary care. In addition, zoos also serve as an economic resource for the community by providing
jobs and increasing tourism statistics. It goes on to explain the negative impacts such as changes in
their natural behaviors. Elephants, for example, need larger enclosures than a zoo can accommodate.
Restricting the animals natural need to migrate results in a shorter lifespan in captivity and also a more
aggressive temperament.Another negative impact

I took English 101 over the summer, but found I had quite a bit of writer s block. It was hard for me to get any kind of energy to write. I found that interesting because I feel like I like writing is something that is enjoyable to me. With this class, the activities put forth, meant to help us get the writing gears moving, really worked for me. The first way we got a jump start was through the article summary assignments based on articles pertaining to contemporary culture. In all honesty, some of them did cause me to look at things with eyes I had not used before. One article in particular that sticks out in my mind, is Stuff is Not Salvation, by Anna Quindlen. Through her use of Ethos, she really brings to light how Americans have this ridiculous obsession with buying stuff. She notes how we are trying to use junk to make ourselves happier, but in the end, as Anna puts it, The happiest families I know aren t the ones with the most square footage (Qtd in Perspectives pg 503). Before reviewing this article, I considered myself someone who didn t necessarily NEED stuff, but as the assignment went on, I realized how bad it really has gotten for us as a society. Analysis Of Siegfried Sassoon s They And Men Thematic Unit 3 Throughout History, a major tragedy caused the world to become chaotic, which lead to millions of brave individuals to lose their life. This horrific tragedy, World War 1 (the Great War), was the beginning of a long terrible journey. Many strong and mighty men volunteered to join the War with the persuasion of being Hero s . These men did not realize the terror they would face when walking into this journey. Many soldiers was faced with seeing their fellow soldiers cold blood drip from their acing bodies, their loving eyes becoming raged with anger by the conditions of their sleeping arrangements, and their hopes of ever returning home or being a normal human being was wiped clean. This was the beginning of a major change of the lives of all individuals throughout the world. Before the War, many soldiers mindset was that this war would turn them into hero s and men . A poet, Siegfried Sassoon, wrote the famous poem They , explained, The Bishop (authority) tells us: when the boys come back/ they will not be the same (1 2). • 21. The Selfless Hero And Odysseus As A Hero A hero is someone who does selfless courageous acts. This statement refers to a great amount of people in the world. There are many heroes in the world and they come in all different shapes and sizes. For some there is no badge or reward for what they do and they still do it. Homer s epic poem, The Odyssey, Odysseus can be known as a hero. He performed acts in order to protect his crew and his family. Odysseus is a fictional character. Doc Hendley is a real life hero who created a foundation to help those without water. Both of these character displayed characteristics of a hero. A true hero completes selfless courageous acts despite the obstacles they pose without expecting any reward. In the epic The Odyssey the main character, Odysseus, could be described as an hero. The decisions that he made were made for the sake of his pride but also for the sake of his crew. Although Odysseus made decisions for the sake of his pride he always put his crew first. ANALYTICAL METHODS The purpose of this chapter is to describe the analytical methods that are available for detecting, measuring, and/or monitoring chlorine dioxide and chlorite, its metabolites, and other biomarkers of exposure and effect to chlorine dioxide and chlorite. The intent is not to provide an exhaustive list of analytical methods. Rather, the intention is to identify well established methods that are used as the standard methods of analysis. Many of the analytical methods used for environmental samples are the methods approved by federal agencies and organizations such as EPA and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). For example, chlorophenol red selectively reacts with chlorine dioxide at pH 7 with a detection limit of 0.12 mg/L. The interferences from chlorine may be reduced by the addition of oxalic acid, sodium cyclamate, or thioacetamide (Sweetin et al. 1996). APHA Method 4500 CLO2 B, iodometric titration analysis, measures the concentration of chlorine dioxide in water by titration with iodide, which is reduced to form iodine. Iodine is then measured colorimetrically when a blue color forms from the production of a starch iodine complex. The detection limit for this method is 20 µg/L (APHA 1998). His usually ruddy face was drawn and grey, reflecting the exhaustion of a man of sixty five who had been working in those rubber boots for eleven hours on an August day, and for a fleeting moment I wondered what I would do if he killed my mother while I stood there in the porch with those three foolish mackerel in my hand. When Macleod talks about the father s blue eyes flashing like clearest ice beneath the snow that was his hair (228) the reader has a picture painted in their mind. This sentence uses imagery to put emphasis behind the glare of the father s eyes. The word ice also has a second effect as it can refer to the cold heartedness and fuming temper of the father in the passage. Imagery continues to be used by Macleod as he continues on the reader is told that the father s usually ruddy face was drawn and grey (228). The father s face was mentioned on a few occasions throughout the story as the reader hears mention of his sunburnt face (230) just a couple pages later on. The reiteration of a small detail like this brings emphasis back to the original passage. In order for his face to look drawn and grey circumstances must be dire. Imagery is in many forms of writing and when used correctly, as in this passage, it elevates the writing and draws emphasis to specific parts of the story that could be easily missed without it. A big question people ask each other is Why are people cruel to each other? In John Steinbeck s novel, Of Mice and Men, there are many incidents of cruelty. Cruelty appeared in the book when George yells at the mentally handicapped Lennie in the beginning of the book. This trend of cruelty continues throughout the book. Characters that were notably cruel in the book are Curley, Curley s wife, and George. Japanese Female Apparel Market For Japanese Women Essay While the bubbly outfits with overflowing laces and floral patterns that highlight the soft and sensitive characteristics once dominated the female apparel market in Japan, nowadays, Japanese women prefer balancing out the femininity with some stylish mannish clothing. Figure 3, where the woman matched her black lace dress and high heels with an olive green military jacket, perfectly exemplifies the chic 甘辛ミックスコーデ (The sweet and sexy coordinates) adored by many Japanese female consumers. Connie Haines, a singer who began working with Harry James at the time, recalled the reaction of fans after Frank s first performance with James; After the first show, the screaming started in the theater, and those girls came backstage. There were about twenty of them... it happened, it was real, it was not a gimmick (Kaplan 76). The biggest height of the hysteria had to have been in October of 1944: the Paramount/Columbus Day Riot. Around 30,000 of Sinatra s fans, many of which were teenage girls nicknamed bobbysoxers, lined up for his show at the Paramount Theatre in Times Square (Doyle). The amount let in was over the safe capacity and thousands more waited outside for shows later on in the day. However, only a few hundred would leave from the previous shows causing a frenzy to ensue outside; over 400 people from the police department were stationed for the day s chaotic events (Kaplan 227). Out of every dollar in revenue spent on records in 1964, 60 cents out of that dollar were spent on Beatles records alone. • 30. The Impacts of Decisions and Outcomes in Hernando Tellez’s... As human beings, it is inevitable to face moral dilemmas in life. When it comes to decision making of a complex situation, individuals often consider their own values and consequences to their actions. Hernando Tellez s Lather and Nothing Else and Edith Pargeter s The Purple Children demonstrate the conflicts a person has with themselves when approached with a challenging situation which requires decision making. The barber from Lather and Nothing Else and the sentry from The Purple Children demonstrate the importance of placing one s own values as a priority when making a difficult choice because it will allow the individual to make peace with the outcome. Individuals who give more worth to penalties that would put themselves at risk than those costs that do not affect them as much are more likely to be content with their decisions. For example, the temptation of murder that the Barber felt when shaving Captain Torres was overruled by the punishments that the Barber would have to encounter, He wouldn t suffer. But what would I do with the body? Where would I hide it? I d have to run, leaving all of this, take cover far, far away. But they would follow me until they ran into me. Captain Torres murderer. While there are many beliefs that are well known and shared amongst a vast community, they can always be questioned, and if they can be questioned, there may be an exception. De Botton states that the reason people do not question our societies beliefs and values is fear of rejection by one s peers and the community as a whole; just as Socrates was. However, some things that we, as a community, hold to be true are true and should not be questioned, at times it is more important to stick to one s moral compass rather than question a societies laws. Not wanting to be alienated from society is something we fear as individuals because many people do not want to live their lives alone, being a part of a community can be important to some people and while that can be questioned, it does not mean it is a bad thing. Being able to question society allows for one to think for themselves and find their own beliefs rather than accepting the ones from the environment they were born into. Today, the world is so diverse, with a range of different and even contradictory beliefs on what is true, questioning them is The main argument presented in De Botton s reading is that what is popular is not always true. Every society has a set of beliefs they hold to be true and important. People will act according to these beliefs because it is shown to them throughout their lives that this is the correct way to behave; going against the status quo can result in unpopularity (De Botton, 2000, p9). The fear of rejection and unpopularity is strong within each society, most individuals believe that it is important to be apart of a community, being exiled from one would result in loneliness and most societal conventions, like marriage, revolve around not being alone. Society tends to put pressure on people to marry, people who do not can be seen as deficient and not to create one s own family can be a great source of anxiety for some (Blackmore, 2005, p327), it is seen as important to not be alone in one s life. Even De Botton states, My priority was to be liked, rather than to speak the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

By observing the recent growth in popularity of fantasy sports, there is no doubt that the market will eventually have to be regulated or deemed illegal. However, given the growth in appetite for sports gambling delegitimizing the regulated industry would simply lead to a surge in illegal gambling. According to an ESPN survey, approximately 38% of Americans admitted to betting on sports in 2008. The fact that the outcome is only determined partially by skill proves that their business model comprises of betting and is therefore illegal according to law in the state of New York. DraftKings and FanDuel argue that since a small minority of costumers amass a majority of the victories there is a significant level of skill involved. They are pushing to convince the court that the players have an effect on the outcome of the game and therefore the outcome is based on skill. He describes the very first zoos as having the focus to gain profit from the public, rather than the concentration being towards the welfare of the animal. Today, the well being of animals is the top priority in many programs across the world. In addition, zoos also serve as an economic resource for the community by providing jobs and increasing tourism statistics. It goes on to explain the negative impacts such as changes in their natural behaviors. Elephants, for example, need larger enclosures than a zoo can accommodate.
