Hare Checklist Case Study
There are advantages to the Hare Checklist, specifically identification of the checklist as one of
the most reliable tests at detecting psychopathy, if used by trained, professional personnel (Hare,
1990). The checklist is extensive in the identification of psychopathy, containing a 20 items long
list as well as an interview and a review of past records and behaviors (Hare, 1990). The benefits
of the checklist include determining the most effective care for an individual diagnosed as a
psychopath, and responsibility for identifying possible psychopaths in prisons and other institutions
who may become repeat offenders of violent crime(Hare, 1990). The checklist is able to predict, in
some cases, the probability of another violent behavior occurring (Hare, 1990).... Show more

Those who exploited the checklist became obsessed with identifying a psychopath and began
madly labelling individuals, leading to confirmation biases and false diagnoses (Ronson, 2011). In
the case of Tony, a gentleman who faked insanity in order to avoid prison, he was kept in a mental
institution for twelve years based off of a misdiagnosis of psychopathy identified by characteristics
and behaviors he apparently exhibited on the Hare Checklist (Ronson, 2011). The psychiatrist that
oversaw him was able to twist every action Tony made or every word he spoke into a further
indication of his psychopathy (Ronson, 2011). Tony did not want to spend time around the other
patients, which was construed as grandiosity and lack of empathy on the checklist, to name one
example (Ronson,

Technology In Modern Society
Did you know that the average person in this day and age spends nearly 3.9 years of their entire
life using some sort of electronical device? In today s modernized society, we are greatly
influenced by the uses of what technology has to offer. Not only does it play a key role in most
of our lives, but it has revolutionized the way we actually live. Simply look around you and the
chances are you will be faced with a wide array of different electronic technologies that have taken
over the way we live. The use of modernized technologyis something rather new, but it is here to
stay for years to come. This being said, in today s society, we are simply not mentally capable of
understanding the true evils of what the use of technology has in storage for us.
Technology has drastically changed throughout the years. From beginning with simple tools, to
the current creation of mega powered modernized computers capable of endless possibilities and
the list goes on. Whether or not one believes in all this technology is hard to say. But one thing
is certain, technology has and will continue to control our lives for hundreds upon hundreds of
years to come unless we can make a change. But the odds are,we will never change. The problem
with technology is that it makes life so much easier. From contacting someone across the world in
a matter of minutes with a couple clicks to controlling the minds and privileges of nearly half of
the world s population by simply making it rather easy to

When you want to have an amazing computer, but you can t choose which one is better? You
went on the internet and research on a blog or ask some people. One person say PC is better and
the other is say Apple Mac. In this compare and contrast paper; I will goes through and compare

2.How does it handle intense gaming?
3.How it handle heavy load of photo editing?
4.How it does handle intense load of video editing?
5.Does the system can be upgrade in the near distance future?
The first to look at these machine is; how much it cost? To start with; a starter top notch PC rig can
start at $1,000. Also if you put very nice processor or graphic card, the more of the bill will add. Or
the base model for iMac is $1,500. There is no special graphic card or nice processor. If you want
to have faster processor the decent graphic card; you have to add another $500. The bill will be
add to $2,000. You can put the same amount of money on a PC and still have better compartments.
The second to look at the two of the machine is; does it handle intense gaming? Both of them can
handle it, but the part is very different. The Apple Mac still used the same graphic card since
summer of 2011. This graphic card have only 2 gigabyte of memory. My gaming rig has the same
memory as the other, but the performance is very different. On the Mac, the benchmark of the

The Rape Of The Daughters Of Leucipus Analysis
This art piece is titled The Rape of the Daughters of Leucippus and the artist is Peter Paul
Rubins. This work was created in 1618 in what was probably Antwerp, Belgium. The socio
cultural situation during at that time and place was tense with the short 12 year truce during
Eighty Years War that resumed in 1619. This war was being fought at this time in what was
called the Low Countries (comprised of some of modern Belgium) and included Antwerp. There
were also conflicting religions with Protestants and Catholics at this time as seen with the Thirty
Years War that began in 1618. This piece is made of oil paint and was made by using a brush to
paint the oil onto the canvas.
The story being told here is about the Greek myth of two twin brothers named Pollux and Castor
who kidnapped and married the daughters of King Leucippus. Two recognizable images are
Castor, who is dressed in garb common for a horse tamer, while Pollux is completely nude. In the
image, it is clear that the two daughters are being taken away against their will by the two men
with their horses. The exact location of this event is not clear but it appears to be occurring in a
green valley of some sort where trees and hills can be seen in the background. Although the time in
which it is happening is not evident either, based ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What happens to the daughters of Leucippus in this scene is incredibly tragic and yet the artwork
also predicts the tragedy that will befall the brothers. I think the other qualities could be described
as dramatic such as the awkward and flailing positions of the women that is meant to bring
attention to the piece. This work really reminds me of other traditional art pieces I have seen with
the style of the painting and the usage of darks and lights to highlight figures. I think it is very
similar to other paintings I have seen about mythical figures but this one seems to emphasize on the
roles of

Insurance Of Developing And Developed Economies
Insurance in Developing and Developed Economies
Introduction
Insurance is a contract, represented by a policy, in which an individual receives financial protection
or reimbursement against losses from an insurance company and it plays an essential part in the
global financial sector. Instantly, insurancecompany operations are important for the banking
industry development, fosters trade and commerce across countries. All these activities are lead to
economic growth and there are impacts that insurance can contribute to economic growth. In
contemporary society, the importance of insurance growth is increasing rapidly in the aggregate
financial sector in almost every developing and developed country. According to Mark J. Browne,
the world insurance business, which constitutes a significant portion of the service sector, has
grown at a rate of 10% annually since 1950 and this growth rate has far exceeded that of overall
world economic development. This paper will explain new this growth in insurance, insurance
industry can contribute to overall economic growth in both developing and developed countries,

How To Teach Literacy
When it comes to teaching literacy, there can be some confusion because there are several things
this one little word encompasses. Literacy has long been known as the ability to read and write but
it has recently expanded to include things like computer literacy and competence of other things as
well.
For most, the process of becoming literate begins in early childhood. It starts by parents and
siblings and sometimes even babysitters, nannies or teachers who speak to and around an
individual, introducing them to the language of their people. Sometimes this talking to takes place
in the form of reading aloud, which is a great way to instill a love of reading, but still does not
teach the child how to read.
In teaching literacy, there

The Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery And The Los...
West Los Angeles is home to two prominent cemeteries: the Westwood Village Memorial Park
Cemetery and the Los Angeles National Cemetery. The Westwood Cemetery was constructed in
1905, serving as the rest place for many famous individuals within the entertainment industry.
Famous names such as Marilyn Monroe, Dean Martin, Natalie Wood, Roy Orbison, and Jack
Lemmon are buried at this gravesite. Nearly less than a mile away from this cemeteryis the Los
Angeles National Cemetery. Established in 1889, this national cemetery is home to many members
of the armed forces who have actively served in the military and/or law enforcement. These two
distinct cemeteries may only appear to share relativity through their short distance, but they also
symbolize many cultural aspects of the American ideology. The Westwood Village Memorial Park
Cemetery and the Veterans Cemetery reinforces American societal conformities and ideals by
perpetuating the idea of gender bias, displaying extreme idolization of celebrity status, and
imprinting religious affiliation. Through tombstone appearance, cultural imprints on the
tombstones, and categorization of the tombstones, both cemeteries embody contemporary
American and Los Angeles culture.
The Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery contains some of the most prominent figures in
Hollywood. In addition, the cemetery is the burial site of many common individuals. In comparison
to the Veterans Cemetery, the Westwood village Cemetery is extremely small

The Waking By Theodore Roethke Summary
People often draw meaning from poetry that in some way allows for a personal connection
strengthening the bond the writer hopes to make. The message that the flower of life s beauty
can only be witnessed for a brief moment, makes the individual value that time even more.
Theodore Roethke s conscious use of rhythmic repetition frames The Waking while emphasizing
his view: people are not living life to the fullest. The definition of how to truly live has, as
proposed by Roethke, eluded the people of the world. With this crisis he wastes no time in
confronting his audience with his truth. In the very first line of the poem he hits us with his first
repeated phrase I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow. (Roethke 826) He starts the poem...

Like in a building these lines are used as large supports that hold up the poem and are the focus of
each stanza. Line one repeats at the end of stanzas two and four while line three is repeated at the
end of stanzas three and five. Interestingly the lines are always placed at the end of the stanza
which not only creates rhythm, but also shows that the entire poem boils down to those two main
lines. In stanza two Roethke builds on line one by showing natural instinct. He includes the
instinctual desire to feel what we cannot see, and to hear which the body often uses to wake up.
(Roethke 826) This strengthens the first line and adds to the poem by emphasizing that living half
asleep limits a person, and robs them of certain things which otherwise might have been
experienced. He continues this pattern of strengthening in stanza three as he now adds more tow
line three. By asking a question at the beginning Roethke emphasizes his own imperceptibility
which connects to the fact that he must learn of those around him through limited senses. (Roethke
826) When he introduces the notion of god, once again the notion of hope arises while he must still
tread softly as not to make a

Analysis Of The Phantom Of The Opera
This movie is one I ve came back to often, the acting, music, scenery, and the story itself is what
brought me back. I liked how every actor in this film not only fit their role, but also made it
believable. If they were to recast the actors today, I don t think they could find better actors to fit
the roles. Some of the roles in this are Viscount de Chagny Raoul played by Patrick Wilson,
Christine DaaГ© played by Emmy Rossum, The Phantom of the Opera Opera Ghost played by
Gerard Butler, these are just the main characters. The role of the Opera Ghost is played by
Gerard Butler, his acting was good which wasn t surprising I have seen some of his other roles
and they were all well done also. What surprised me the most how well he could sing. There any
many characters that are seen throughout the film, some supporting roles include Madame Giry
played by Miranda Richardson, Meg Giry played by Jennifer Ellison, Carlotta Giudicelli played
by Minnie Driver, Gilles AndrГ© played by Simon Callow, Monsieur LefГЁvre played by James
Fleet, and Monsieur Reyer played by Murray Melvin. There are of course extras. This movie is a
musical that is mainly drama based, so not only does it help keep the movie interesting, the
music is good enough you could listen to it on its own. The movie is set in an Paris Opera House
named the Opera Populaire in 1870. The Opera Populaire is very beautiful and huge. Christine gets

The Cores Of Confucianism
Introduction
From the 6th century to 221 BC, the Spring and Autumn period to the Warring States period, the
Ancient China experienced a lengthy chaos. Nonetheless, in such bloody era, the brilliant Chinese
philosophers sprang up and started a Golden Age of philosophy. People call this phenomenon as
the Contention of a Hundred schools of Thoughts. The philosophers discussed about the best way
for a country to survive, for an emperor to rule and for people to live. Those thoughts impacted the
lifestyle and social consciousness not only at that time but even in the following thousands of years,
especially for the Confucianism which was exclusively adopted in Han dynasty and rule the China
for two thousand years. In this essay, I will focus on the Confucianism, discuss the central doctrines.
The Cores of Confucianism
As we know During the Spring and Autumn period, China s feudal system gradually became
significant irrelevant. The emperor of Zhou dynasty had real control over only a small royal
demesne centered on their capital Luoyi near modern day Luoyang. During the early part of the
Zhou dynasty period, royal relatives and generals had been given control over fiefdoms in an effort
to maintain Zhou authority over vast territory. As the power of the Zhou kings waned, these
fiefdoms became ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Confucius envisioned proper government being guided by the principles of li. Some Confucians
proposed the perfectibility of all human beings with learning li as an important part of that process.
Overall, Confucians believed governments should place more emphasis on li and rely much less on
penal punishment when they govern. Though the Confucianism later was used by the government
to rule the country and maintain the feudal system strictly, the original purpose of Confucius did
not endorse the ideal that people should listen to all things by

What Are The Stereotypes Of Boys And Girls
Ever since birth your parents choice the gender, from pink or blue to the toys you play when
you were younger to even who was acceptable to hang out with. Boys and girls have always had
different roles growing up. Boys are suppose to be the tough and strong person who didn t ever
need help with anything and girls were always the weak ones who always needed someone to
help or save them. Its all how society told us how to grow up, women and men both share
something in common and that s how society says how we should look, women just have it a
little harder. Starting at a young age girls are already being pressured to be perfect , the models
,the magazine covers, all reveal a completely impossible body image. Not because their parents
may have had what some people call good genes... No, it s the photo shop and all the editing and
weight lose that sometimes they have to lose just to get a certain role. They are not happy with
it. They look nothing like they do in photos or movies or magazines but that s not what society
sees and that s why people feel the need to be perfect and no flaws whatsoever, they feel if they
don t look a certain way the guys wont take the time to look their direction that no one would like
them that s where the depression and self harm comes into play and that s the sad part of it.

Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy is essential in the treatment of CF in order to allow the patient to live their day to
day life. In most cases, the patient will be referred to a physiotherapist by a physician soon after
they are diagnosed with CF. The job of the physiotherapist is to clear mucus secretions in the lungs
and try to maintain pulmonary function in the patient. When the patient is in their infancy, the
physiotherapist will prescribe exercises that the parents of the child can perform, as the child is
unable to take instruction and perform Airway Clearance Techniques. Instead the parents should
perform postural drainage and chest percussions [1]. As the child develops, they can begin to
perform exercises such as Airway Clearance Techniques (ACTs) and Positive Expiratory Pressure
(PEPs) exercises.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This increases the force behind the mucus allowing it to loosen from the lung and airway walls [2].
Pulmonary function can be determined through the use of Pulmonary Function Tests (PFTs), where
the patient breathes into a small device, which then measures how much air is being inhaled and
exhaled. [3] Also, the physiotherapist may work in sync with a radiographer to determine the
decrease in pulmonary function through the use of x rays. The physiotherapist also works hand in
hand with the physician to determine the frequency of physiotherapy sessions and what is required
from the physiotherapy sessions. As the patient continues to get older, pulmonary function may
decline so much that the physician decides a lung transplant is the best option for the patient. It is
very important that the patient continues an exercise program whilst on the transplant waiting list
in order to maintain their health [4]. Post transplant, the patient should follow a daily physiotherapy
plan as it has be shown to

Evaluation Of The Advance Payment
Under the Advance Payment ACO Model, there are three types of payments. One of the payments
is an upfront, fixed payment which each ACO will receive. Second type of payment is an upfront
variable payment in which each ACO receives a payment based on the number of its preliminarily
prospectively assigned beneficiaries. The third payment option is a monthly payment of varying
amount depending on the size of the ACO meaning the number of preliminarily prospectively
assigned beneficiaries. The Advance Payment ACO Model targets two types of organizations
participating in the Shared Savings Program. The first target are ACOs that do not include any
inpatient facilities and have less than fifty million dollars in total annual revenue. The second target
are ACOs that have only inpatient facilities that are critical access hospitals and or Medicare low
volume rural hospitals and have less than eighty million dollars in total annual revenue (Overview).
Even though an ACO that follow under these two targets could still not be eligible if that ACO is

Research Paper On Dharavi
Dharavi
Dharvai located in Mumbai, is home to one of the largest slums in the world. The slum was
founded in 1882 during the British colonial era. The slum grew due to growing factories and
industries and due to the growing influx of migrants
Initially Dharavi was predominantly a mangrove swamp and was sparsely populated by a
Fisherman community called the Koli, and Dharavi came to be called Koliwadas. During the 19th
century, Mumbai s population reached half a million, 10 times the population of London, at that
time. Hence most parts of Mumbai suffered from acute housing, water and sanitation problems.
Residential areas were divided into 2 parts: European and native residential quarters. Slums were
meant for native Indian population .Increase of urban growth under the East India Company and
British Raj, gave rise to slums, unsanitary conditions and epidemics. Concerned about epidemics the
British Government expelled polluting industries and Indian residents to the village of Koliwadas.
And, thus was born Dharavi
The first early settlers of Dharavi were people who worked with leather. Other settlers included a
large Gujarati community of potters known as the Kumbars, embroidery workers from Uttar

A Report On The Sun
Everyone loves waking up at eight in the morning to go to an auction, particularly a college
student whose classes don t begin until noon, right? Wrong, especially one who has never been to
an auction, let alone woken up at eight in the morning since mid August. That morning, I was
unaware of my ability to learn so much about the microscopic Eastern Shore from a hoarder s
garage on steroids. Surprisingly, it s possible for a place that only holds eight percent of Maryland
s population to be hectic, but also peaceful and eccentric; its inhabitants could be competitive,
friendly, and also rude, all at the same time.
Regardless of where I wanted to be, I was in Crumpton, MD on the last Wednesday of September.
The sun is nowhere to be seen while drizzling rain is stirring the dirt ground into mud, but
regardless of how dark and gloomy the morning felt, the colossal yellowish green building
managed to lighten the mood. Its base is compiled of cement blocks and the roof is slanted, painted
in a forest green to match the large letters that read Dixson s Furniture Auction. In front of the
auction warehouse sat items that belonged to someone at some point, but were in search of a new
owner. Each item was systematically scattered throughout the lot. Most items are what you would
expect to see: wooden chairs, wardrobes, and even some tables.
Suddenly, a short, skinny black man asked if he could be of any assistance. I kindly responded no.

Ozymandias By Percy Bysshe Shelley, And John Keats
Throughout history, mankind has struggled to find methods of preserving the past, and have come
to two solutions; establishing museums and writing poetry. Unlike poetry, museums only record the
basic events and not individual thoughts, experiences, or emotions. The Romantic poets: William
Wordsworth, Percy Bysshe Shelley, and John Keats have written their poems to reconstruct this
history. Romantic poets concern themselves with memory, antiquity, and re imagining the past.
Percy Bysshe Shelley s Ozymandias is an eighteenth century sonnet, focusing on an ancient statue
now set in ruins. The statue Ozymandias tells his story throughout the poem, having once been the
Kings of Kings is now a colossal Wreck . Moreover, the memory of this statue is its legacy
described in the poem. Notwithstanding its original state, the pile of rubble and decay was

The majority of the poem is a tribute to nature s beauty so that others can experience it once

John Locke And Rousseau s Theory Of The State Of Nature
Thomas Hobbes, John Locke and Jean Jacques Rousseau all claim an integral space in the realm of
political philosophy. Through their respective dissertations, each author analyzed man in his natural
state and derived a form of civil society from that conclusion. While each author observes man in
his own way and thus come to his own forms of subsequent government, equality seems to be a
defining feature in all of their theories. All authors engage this notion heavily within their texts and
use this comparison of man to man to draw powerful inferences from that. This paper will briefly
summarize Hobbes , Locke, and Rousseau s definition of the state of nature and then critically
analyze the role of equality in crafting the construction of government.
In Leviathan, Thomas Hobbes paints a grim picture about man s natural state. Famously
characterized as solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short (Hobbes 89), man s life is chaotic. The state
of nature, Hobbes insists, is a state of warre(Hobbes 88) which pits men against men. Man naturally
aims for felicity, defined as continual success in obtaining those things which a man from time to
time desire, that is to say, continual prospering (Hobbes 46). People think of their own interests and
their pursuits of said interests may put them into conflict with another, in which violent war may
emerge. Man, thus, lives in a state of constant fear.
Hobbes proposes that all people, then, submit to a sovereign. They must enter a

Abstract
The coach client relationship is the heart of all life coaching processes. Whether it involves
executive coaching, leadership, marriage or financial coaching without a client to serve, a coach
cannot fulfill his or her purpose. Hence, knowing how to effectively build relationships with people
is fundamental to being a successful life coach. This research paper will explore the dynamics of
the coaching relationship as it relates to factors, such as commonalities and compatibilities, which

Boyce et al (2010) states, the similarity attraction hypothesis maintains that similarity is a major
source of attraction between individuals and that a variety of physical, social, and status traits
can be used as the basis for inferring similarity in attitudes and beliefs (p. 916). Compatibility
refers to the appropriate combination of client and coach behavior preferences or the
characteristics the client and coach possess that influence their cognitions and behaviors in
various situations (Boyce et al, 2010, p. 916). It is believed that coaches who are matched with
clients based on their styles of behavior and similar personalities are more likely to have a
healthier relationship (Boyce et al, 2010). Then again, if a mismatched coaching relationship
continues to exist the coach may be able to challenge the client s perspectives, which can result in
higher performance outcomes (Boyce et al, 2010).
Credibility is another important factor when matching coaches and clients. Boyce, Jackson and
Neal (2010) state that, credibility refers to a coach possessing the necessary credentials to meet
client needs and include coaching competence and experience (p. 917). Not only does credibility
involve the coach s competence and experience, but their ability to hold true to their word. Clients
expect coaches to follow through on their word. With time, this ultimately forms the client s

Sequential Art Rhetorical Analysis
Rhetoric in Sequential Art When the word sequential art comes to mind, many people would
automatically assume some elaborate work of art that belongs in an art museum, but at a baseline
sequential art can be your average comic book or comic strip. This isn t to say that they shouldn t
be in an art museum because the work displayed in them is phenomenal and in some ways, can
surpass your stereotypical piece of art, but most people consider them childish, a waste of time, or
something that could never be taken seriously. In reality comics and other forms of sequential art
do something that many pieces of art cannot do. They can combine the beauty or simplicity behind
art, with a phenomenal storyline that everyone can understand. What is even... Show more content

When thinking about a novel, one of the most commonly used rhetorical tools used is imagery.
When a scene is important for the sake of the plot or important to the author, the author works
hard to bring the reader into the world that they see the action happening in. The same can be
said of the presentation of a certain sequence within a piece of sequential art. Whereas a square
can be seen as an ordinary frame for a comic, when the art is put into any other shape, it now
stands out as important to the reader and they are more inclined to noticed more detail within
the scene or frame. The same effect applies within the Narmer Palette and its presentation on the
stone tablet that it is carved on. The main parts of the story are in giant panels, framed in a large
rectangle and surrounded by the Egyptian goddess Bat, a cow goddess who was prevalent in
the Old and Middle Kingdoms of Egypt. The goddess was told to have two faces, one able to see
to the past and the other to see towards the future, hence why the face of a cow appears twice on
each panel of significance. For many who were to look upon the palette it would be a sign of a
blessing, significance, and greatness. This particular style of detail can be considered a rhetorical
device because of its purpose towards the main theme of the

The Global Security And Human Security
The UN has [A]cknowledge[d] that we are living in an interdependent and global world and that
many of today s threats recognize no national boundaries, are interlinked and must be tackled at the
global, regional, and national levels in accordance with the Charter and international law (2005
World Summit Outcome). After the world had entered into the Post Cold War era, traditional
conceptions of security had become the global security and human security. The International
Government Organizations (IGOs) and United Nationsrealized that wars and chaos began to be
internationalized. And the human security, such as human rights, poverty, and the environment,
has received attention gradually by the public. There are many issues that have affected the global
security in recent decades. The Iraq war began in 2003, and it estimated that more than one
hundred thousand civilians died during the war. On 11 March 2010, The Fukushima Daiichi
nuclear disaster happened in Japan, and fifteen thousand people died in this disaster. The Arab
Spring began in 2010 in Tunisia, and then spread to 18 Arab countries in Mid East and Africa. The
United Nation, established in 1945 after the World War II, has the responsibility to maintain the
peace and security. While the UN is helpful in some situations, there are times when the UN should
not intervene. It is a general idea that the performance of UN in the conflict is not as good as the
performance in the human security.

Being Good without Qualification Humans cannot help but ask themselves, are the acts of
goodness which are seen around them by others really true acts of good will or being good? Good
will can be defined as a kindly feeling of approval and support, benevolent interest or concern,
(Webster s) and good can be defined as morally excellent, virtuous, righteous, pious, excellence
or merit, kindness, and a favorable character or tendency. (Dictionary.com) Good can also be
defined by the culture we live in and by what is also socially good and or correct. Good can be
defined as doing what is right, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All humans have some type of understanding of what good will is, as it is a reason or a
determination of the proper thing to do at the right time or period. Rather than the human reaction to
try and satisfy or make oneself happy, humans would be and should be more naturally inclined to
make possible good will and being good which this will bring about unintentional happiness or
satisfaction. Then Kant going on to explain that by using reason in a situation, humans would not
be able to attain good will as reason cannot be used on a unconditional basis and that would cloud
judgement.
Kant uses an example of duty to try to explain the difference he sees in something being based on
good will or not. The difference lies between a person merely doing his or her duty and doing it
because it is her duty. Kant believes that good will is demonstrated only in the latter of the two
situations. A person is not demonstrating good will when he or she knows it s wrong but still
does their duty. On the other hand, if a person were to do his or her duty knowing it is right and
not expecting some sort of reward because of the performance of the duty, than this is considered
true good will and being good. A nurse in the hospital setting would not be considered as having
true good will since that nurse would be expected to be compensated for a job well done but on the

The Work Ethic And Value Of Trader Joe s As A Company
Introduction This paper is intended to explore the work ethic and value of Trader Joe s as a
company and their employees. Hands on top managers have always been insistent in the
company. Now, CEO Dan Bane created the values to reflect on the original traditions of its
founder. When reading through the accomplishments of this grocery store, I was pleasantly
surprised that they have managed to keep their integrity during their growth. Being a customer
at Trader Joe s myself, I find myself thinking about all the good experiences I have had every
time I visited the store. Trader Joe s has grown from a mom and pop grocery to a worldwide
chain. Their integrity for selling a good product at a good price with great customer has proven
them to be one of the grocery stores to be in high completion with other retailers in their genre.
Their focus on giving their customers the options of different goods and the smiling faces of
their friendly employees has risen them to a higher level of grocery shopping. Trader Joe s
Principle of Management Background Abraham s (2002) research shows, Trader Joe s was
acquired in 1979 by the Albrecht family of Germany which owns and operates a discount food
chain of 4,500 Aldi stores in Europe and parts of the central US. Abilities, competences, and
methods that an organization uses to improve its effectiveness and efficiency and create and sustain
competitive advantage are called resources (Williams, 2015, p. 109).

My Partner And I Chose The Film The Lion King
My partner and I chose the film The Lion King. This Disney animated feature from 1994 follows
the adventures of Simba, a young lion voiced by Jonathan Taylor Thomas (Home Improvement).
He is joined by his father, Mufasa voiced by the great James Earl Jones (Star Wars) and his
corrupt, uncle Scar who is voiced by one of the all time favorites Jeremy Irons (The Man from
the Iron Mask). Scar wants to be king and overthrow Mufasa and comes up with a plan to lure
Simba and his father into a stampede of wildebeests. Simba escapes, but his father Mufasa is
killed. Simba soon finds himself chased out of his kingdom and paired with two new friends
Timon and Pumbaa. His friends are Timon a meerkat voiced by Nathan Lane (The Producers)
and Pumbaa is a warthog voiced by Ernie Sabella (Mouse Hunt). The story ultimately leads to
Simba, now an adult being voiced by Matthew Broderick (Godzilla), returning to take back his
homeland back from Scar with the help of his friends. Of the characters in the film, we see
Simba and his friend Nala as lion cubs in the start of the film. Simba and Nala are both roughly
six to eight months old, which is roughly ten years old for humans. ( Animal Ages ). Simba, born
into privilege, is being groomed by his father in the beginning on how to rule his future kingdom.
Using Piaget s theory of childhood development we will look at Simba and Nala, as well as how
they compare developmentally to the average ten year old. This age would put Simba and Nala in

Persuasive Essay On Sea Turtles
Sea turtles are becoming extinct on the Florida Gulf Coast. Sea turtles are dying because of
humanitarian problems, including garbage, plastics, lights and beach activities. Turtles are very
important to the ecosystem, because they monitor the sea grass, which they eat to make sure it
doesn t over grow. Sea grass provides shelter with many different species of marine life and
provides food for some (including turtles). Without seagrass the whole ecosystem would be out of
sorts. There aren t many counterclaims for this topic, it s usually people don t realize that turtles are

carried out by fundraising to get money to start the organization, keep fundraising throughout and

because of our waste many animals are perishing. Most children remember things they were taught
very young like, raise your hand, don t talk when the teacher is talking although many kids in
middle school and high school, don t do this, they know they are suppose to. By teaching children
about recycling and the ocean/environment very young it will stick with them throughout their
lives. There aren t many counterclaims in this problem. One of the counterclaim is that no one
wants to feel responsible for or to take ownership of pollutant. The other counterclaim is that many

it solves multiple problems. It doesn t just solve the problem about the sea turtles, but also it solves

Effects Of The Jim Crow Laws
The Jim Crow laws has had a major influence on the United States based on how much harm than
good it did during its time. The Jim Crow laws were in favor of white people more than black, in
state and local laws in the United States enacted between 1876 and 1965. This in turn caused more
harm than good because black peoplehad so many restrictions on what the can do while living in
the US. The Jim Crow lawswere based on segregation of public schools, public places, and public
transportation, and the segregation of restrooms, restaurants, and drinking fountains for whites and
blacks. The U.S. military was also segregated. The Jim Crow laws caused white to feel superior to
black while black thought they were inferior.

These laws had a lot of impact on people sociologically because the government would not believe
them no matter what the case was. They saw all black people as inferior during this time and
would stay the same as time went on.
Segregation between white and black people during the 1890 s was a sad time for most black
people because they could not eat at the same restaurants, use the same railroads or bus stations
or even restrooms. Black people were, restricted to only using what was available to them and
nothing else. As time went on the Democratic Party played a part in the evolution of The Jim
Crow laws. During the 1940 s black people was no threat to white Virginians mainly because they
were disfranchised by the new state constitution in 1902. By having this new constitution in place
horrible acts such as lynchings became a means of keeping blacks in their place. The Democratic
Party during this time caused more harm than good instead of helping black people succeed they
instead try to keep them tied down.
But when the twenties and eventually the thirties came around most white southerners did not want
to adapt to the changes that were going on at the time. Under the Jim Crow laws most white people
thought at the time that they would eventually get attacked from within or even without. Which
was a huge problem to them, they wanted to keep control of blacks because they saw

a new kind of war: the Vietnam war. Tim was not set for war, as he said I was too good for this

Sexual Offenders Is The Most Vilified Type Of Offenders...
Sexual offenders are the most vilified type of offenders within public opinion and the criminal
justice system. The American precedent cases of Jacob Wetterling, Pam Lyncher, Megan Kanka,
and other notorious crimes perpetrated by sexual offenders with a prior history of conviction have
demanded a response from the criminal justice system to increase public safety. In 1994, the Jacob
Wetterling Crimes against Children and Sexually Violent Offender Registration Program was
passed (Scholle, 2000), the first piece of legislation to advocate for the development of state
maintained registries of convicted sexual offenders. The legislation has been amended numerous
times since then; in its present state, the law requires all states to maintain a registry, the
mandatory registration of convicted sex offenders after release, community notification laws in
place, and public access to the registry (Burchfield and Mingus, 2012; Lees and Tewksbury, 2006;
Petrunik, Murphy, and Fedoroff, 2008; Scholle, 2000; Tewksbury and Lees, 2006; Wagner, 2011).
Sex offender registry laws were intended to increase public safety and to reduce the reoffending
rates of sexual offenders. However, this paper will argue that registration has no effect on
recidivism rates and that the law actually negatively impacts rehabilitative goals because of the
unforeseen issues stemming from registration. An analysis of the existing body of literature
concerning registration from the United States will address the

The Fuel Of Diesel Vehicles
Today, we live in a world that s vastly interconnected. Something that happens across seas can
affect a whole nation, several nations, or even all of them. Recently Volkswagen was put in the
hot seat when they were caught imputing software into their diesel vehicles, that makes it show
a different emissions output than was accepted by the EPA. They called this device the, defeat
device. Thusly all of their vehicles that were diesel were marketed as low emissions which
turned out to be a lie. The article on bbc.com states, The engines emitted nitrogen oxide
pollutants up to 40 times above what is allowed in the US. This is a huge blow to the company
as far as public opinion goes. They lost the trust of millions of people around the world. They
have been producing allegedly clean diesel emissions for a long time now and even included
that in their advertisements. Because of this scandal they were forced to recall millions of
diesel vehicles with this device causing them to lose over $2.5 billion. Their first quarterly loss
in the past 15 years. This sounds like a lot of money but the EPA is still considering fining
Volkswagen for each car they produced and lied about. The amount they are considering
charging them is roughly $37,500 for each car which leads to a maximum fine of $18 billion.
That s more than the value of most of the cars, which really shows how seriously they are taking
this. Even for a giant like VW that is a massive blow financially. From now on every

Metamaterial Cloaking

Abstract
Metamaterials have been a subject of increasing interest due to their ability to manipulate the flow
of EM waves. We analyse the mechanism by which metamaterials are able to exhibit this property
which is exploited to develop the Harry Potter esque invisibility cloaks. We briefly discuss the
whole new branch of optics called Transformation Optics developed for this purpose, and comment
on the extent to which these materials can cloak.
Introduction
Metamaterials are artificially designed materials which have properties that cannot be found in
natural materials.[1] They were first theoretically proposed by Veselago in 1968 as materials
having negative permeability and permittivity. This is why these are also known as Left Handed
Materials (LHM) or Negative Refractive Index materials (NIM). The first discovery in this domain
was done by Sir Pendry et al in 1996, who discovered a wire medium with negative permittivity.
This was followed by other significant discoveries like negative permeability by Pendry in 1999
and LHM by Sir Smith in 2001.
Metamaterial structures can either be periodic (homogenous) or non periodic (inhomogenous). Their
properties depend on the construction and arrangement of their constituents. These con stituents are
usually smaller

The Role of Sight, Scent, and Sound by the White-tailed Deer
Use and relative role of sight, scent, and sound by white tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) to
locate and select between different types of foods
Introduction
The foraging habits of white tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus; hereafter deer) have been
extensively researched. Studies have evaluated seasonal influence as well as other environmental
influences on forage selection by deer (Moen 1981, Rogers et al. 1981, McCullough 1985, and
others). However, no such research has ever tested to determine what senses deer use to locate and
select between different food types or the relative importance of each sense involved in that
process. We are missing much of the basic knowledge of physiology and anatomy related to the
sensory capabilities of deer (D Angelo et al. 2006). Information from this type of research is
becoming increasingly important to wildlife biologists, as they can use it to improve other forage
selection studies aimed at reducing crop depredation or other wildlife damage. So little is known
about the role of sight, smell, and sound in deer ability to locate and select between forage types,
therefore quantitative information in this area of research needs further attention (Sayre et al.
1992). By understanding the importance of each sense in the location and selection of different
food types by deer, new studies can be set up that focus on the most important sense, while also
considering what effects the other senses have on their behavior. As

Examples Of Civil Disobedience
Can injustices be confronted without violence? Throughout history most conflicts have been
depicted as fights where people would rather use the sword than the pen. But in some cases people
use civil disobedience and non cooperation against the injustices. One case being that of the
independence of India, led by Mohandas K. Gandhi. He used his on method of non violence he
called Satyagraha, which was sanskrit for truth and force. He use Satyagraha as a tool to degrade
the sword and shackles that the British empire had on India. An example of Gandhi using civil
disobediencewas in the Dandi Salt march where he traveled to the Arabian Sea with his followers

The Abc Sitcom 2 Broke Girls
The CBS sitcom 2 Broke Girls has had continuous success ever since it first aired in 2011. What
makes 2 Broke Girls different than many other TV sitcoms is that almost every member of the
main cast has a different rationality, making the show one of the most diverse sitcoms to ever
exist. The two broke girls are named Caroline and Max. Caroline has blonde hair, blue eyes, and
a slim figure. She grew up in a wealthy home, never had to work, and attended college. Caroline
lived an upper class lifestyle until her father was convicted of financial wrongdoings and lost
everything. In contrast, Max has brown hair, brown eyes, and a larger figure and has worked
since she was very young. The two girls are waitresses in a run down diner. In addition, the diner
is owned by a very short Asian man named Han and the cashier is an elderly black man named
Earl. The sitcom follows their lives as they learn how to deal with each other and their lower class
lifestyles. Similar to many sitcoms, 2 Broke Girls takes advantage of the diverse ethnic and racial
stereotypes of the characters to make comedic entertainment. While the comedyin the show does
grab the attention of the audience, what also stands out is the connection of the characters. All of
the commonalities that come with living in similar situations overpower their differences in race
and ethnicity. Even though the characters stereotypes and interactions are constantly being mocked
for comedic material, they all have a special bond

Essay On Option Pricing
Option Pricing
Paper trading really helps you grasp the fundamentals, However, when buying and selling options
in the open marketplace with real money, things change quite a bit. During your simulations I bet
you wondered about option pricing. If you wanted to geek out, you could use a complicated
formula like the infamous Black and Scholes equations. Instead of eating aspirin by the hand full,
let s just focus on the basics. An option is a derivative, which means that it is based on the value of
another asset. Thus, the stock price or underlying asset is an important feature in determining the
pricing. When you want to buy a stock, you want to buy it for a cheap as possible, this works the
same way for options. Here are the factors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You make money with an option if there is a favorable change in price of the underlying asset, but
this must happen before expiration. Therefore, the longer the lifetime of the option, the better
chance there is for that opportunity. Generally, the more time remaining on an option makes it
worth more However, there is also more time for the stock to move in an unfavorable direction as
well.
TYPE OF OPTION:
The type of option (put or call) is also highly relevant to pricing. Calls are expected to increase in
value as the price of the underlying asset increases. While puts are expected to increase in value
as the underlying asset s price decreases. The other factors discussed can also affect the option.
Options for stocks that pay a dividend are often worth less because the dividend is priced into the
option. VOLATILITY: Some would argue that volatility is the greatest factor in determining the
price of an option in the marketplace. Realistically, all of the other factors, strike price, type, interest
rates, dividend, are known, where volatility isn t. Since options are derivatives, stocks and options
are interconnected. For either investment, volatility is one of the most important elements to
consider. As an option buyer, you can use historical movements in price to make some projections.
However, option prices are based on IV implied volatility. Implied volatility, most often

from one mining area to another. When gold was found in other southern states and then in
California in 1848, many moved out of the area. The Cornish miners, however, had often moved
with their families. They were known to be skilled, superstitious, clannish, and strongly Methodist.
Unlike the single prospectors who followed the gold to California, the Yukon, and beyond, many of
these Cornish miners and their families stayed in North Carolina, in the lode mining centers of
Charlotte and especially Gold Hill in Rowan County.
The Cornish culture is a unique culture within Great Britain, much like the Welsh or Scottish, with
its own dialect and customs. But because the Cornish also spoke English, they and their
descendants quickly melded into American life, and their cultural influence is not easy to Pinpoint.
The influence that they had on North Carolina s emerging industries, however, is unmistakable. In
the early 1800s, North Carolina acquired the nickname The Rip Van Winkle State , because so
little progress was made that the state appeared to be asleep like that character from

The Little Mermaid Character Analysis
The Little Mermaid is a Disney animated film that came out in the late 1900s. The movie is
about a teenage mermaid princess named Ariel whose curiosity leads her to defy her father, the
mermaid king. Many American girls enjoy the film during childhood and idolize Ariel. While The
Little Mermaid continues to entertain children, many parents are unaware that the movie can
actually do more bad than good for their little girls . . . Ariel teaches little girls to give up
everything that makes them who they are in order to please a man. In Escape from Wonderland:
Disney and the Female Imagination, Deborah Ross argues that the goals in which Disney female
heroes pursue teach little girls to strive for all the wrong things. For instance, in The Little Mermaid
, Ariel risks all of her best attributes to marry a man and walk the earth as a human. Tying the
knot with this man is perceived as her goal in life which can impress American girls with the belief
that the best thing they can achieve is to win a man and satisfy him. Ross stresses this idea when
she writes, what we see her do is flee a world of infinite possibility to settle in a land of the banal [.
. .] yes, she gets her legs, she makes her stand, she marches but only down the aisle, to marry some
guy named Eric (60). With some revision, Ariel does have some potential to be a good role model
for little girls. She could have decided to reveal herself to Eric as she was and see if he would love
her for her, instead of

The Knight Of Light By The Greenest Grass
Chapter 1: The Knight of Light
The Knight of Light
Once upon a time, in a land far, far away, there was a small kingdom that had a sky of the bluest
blue, and was surrounded by the greenest grass which was decorated by every flower you could
imagine.
Within this kingdom there was a village that was filled with happiness, and everyone who lived
there was always smiling, for they loved their little village. They loved the blue skies, they loved
the green grass that was decorated by every flower you could imagine, and they loved their
kingdom.
But what the villagers loved most was their beautiful queen. She was a wonderful and benevolent
woman who lived in an enormous pure white castle just outside of the village. From there she would

Alas, this was not the end of the Darkness s scheme. Once it was done with the village it swept into
the queens pure white castle and into the bedchamber of the queen herself. The Darkness then
snatched her up in its giant claw and dragged her out of the bedchamber. It dragged her out of the
pure white castle, out of the village, and took her into the very depths of Hell themselves.
After the queen was taken, the blue skies turned cloudy and grey, the pure white castle became
ugly, and discoloured, and an eternal gloom settled upon the kingdom. From that moment on, none
of the villagers could smile, for with their glowing queen stolen from them, what reason was there
to smile?
Days turned into weeks, weeks turned into months, months turned into years and years turned into
centuries, and the kingdom remained the gloomy, grey ghost of the joy it had once celebrated. In
that time the queen did not return, and any fool who was brave enough to try and look for her
never came back.
But then one day, after exactly one hundred years had passed since the Darkness came, a
stranger came to the gloomy kingdom, and he was not like the sad, smile less villagers who lived
there. No, this man was a knight! For he rode a white stallion and he wore a shining suit of armor,
made out of the purest silver which shone like a finely cut jewel, with a

Government and Industry were Fully Established in the 19th...
The 19th century in America was a period of development. Now that the federal government had
been fully established, the United States was settling into the new nation and embark on the
journey of becoming a world power. To do so, the republic must construct a thriving industry, or the
economy would crash and the nation would become impoverished. However, the industry was not
easy to build up. It required careful nurturing and a watchful guide so that it would become the
industry in the current United States. Who would cultivate the industry? Rather than a single body
or entity, numerous factors resulted in the growth of industry. In the 19th century, the growth of an
industry can be attributed to the availability of financing spurred by protective tariffs, the Bank of
the United States, a wealth of laborers, and economic expansion. The central government became
instrumental in the industry s success by passing tariffs, and in doing so, protecting American
businesses. Tariffs were taxes that were passed on goods imported from outside the country. After
the War of 1812, even the most stalwart Democratic Republicans [realized] that the United States
needed to attain economic independence (Tariff of 1816). This would become a huge danger to the
nation s welfare if they ever went to war with Britain again, which was the source of their
manufactured goods. Consequentially, in 1816, the first tariff that would protect American
businesses was passed, in hopes of creating an

Goya
Any art medium can be utilized to tell a story or evoke emotion in a viewer. Artistry is unique in
that it is purely visual and can be left to interpretation if the artist chooses to stay ambiguous in the
message they are trying to convey. As an artist, I am always trying to analyze the meanings behind
famous works of art, whether those meanings happen to be incidental or purposeful. So, when
contemporary artist, Enrique Chagoya expressed his adoration for the social commentary expressed
in Francisco Goyas Los Caprichossketches, I was intrigued. Francisco JosГ© de Goya y Lucientes
is regarded as one of the most important Spanish artists from the late eighteenth and early
nineteenth centuries. His work spanned the time of four... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It should come as no surprise that Chagoya s style was heavily influenced by the late eighteenth
century artist. In his Met featurette, Chagoya mentions that he has a background in political
economy that has inspired him to add social commentary to his art. This inspiration original
stemmed from his love for Francisco Goya s art pieces, especially his series of sketches titled,
Los Caprichos. He mentions how Goya s art is like a window to the world of the late 1700 s
(Chagoya, The Artist Project ). What is so magical about these sketches though is that the
sketches are not representative of a specific time or place which allows the messages conveyed
to still ring true. The figures in his sketches are metaphorical and represent themes such as greed,
vanity, and fear. Chagoya believes that we are meant to see a piece of ourselves reflected in these
figures but the dark and humorous style of the sketches keep the message from damning us. His
overall message in this series seems to be that we, as humans, shouldn t aim to appear good but we
should instead make the world a better experience for

Examples Of Critical Discourse Analysis
CHAPTER 2
THEORITICAL FOUNDATION
2.1Critical Discourse Analysis
To understand the concept of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), it is necessary to see how
CDA defines discourse. Discourse is not simply an isolated textual or dialogical structure (van
Dijk, 1988). It is seen as socially constructed ways that do not only shape but also enable (social)
reality (Foucault, 1977; Paltridge, 2006). It involves a dialectical relationship between a particular
discursive event and the situation(s), institution(s), and social structure(s) which frame it
(Fairclough Wodak, 1997, p. 258). It also helps to establish power relations between social classes,
gender, or majorities and minorities groups (Wodak Meyer, 2009). Therefore, CDA acts as an
approach that critically investigates the relationship between discourse and the reproduction of
power in social practices and interactions (Fairclough, 1995 as cited ... Show more content on

Therefore, one of the distinguishing features of DHA is its interdisciplinary method that considers
a variety of different empirical data and background information (Reisigl Wodak, 2001).
The historical dimension is realized by collecting all information regarding the historical
background and the original sources of the object under investigation and exploring diachronic
change (Matouschek et al. 1995; Wodak et al., 1990, 1994 as cited in van Leeuwen Wodak,
1999). Specifically, the process of analysis in DHA starts by describing the phenomena occurred in
texts. Then, describing the apparent changes. Finally, discussing the result to find how and why
change occurs since the purpose of DHA is to uncover the ideology in diachronic texts

Supply support activities are designed to provide supported units with various types of supplies.
Supported units are ultimately considered the customer of the supply support activity. Supply
support activities provide a service to their customers very similar to the method a local
department or grocery store supports their customers. Supplies can be anything from food to major
end items such as a high mobility multipurpose wheeled vehicle(HMMWV). For the army to

Supply support activities are broken down into 4 sections. The stock control section is responsible
for the communication between the various STAMIS systems and they interact with the
supported customers more than the other 3 sections. Stock control is very similar to a person
working at the register of a department store. The receiving section is responsible for processing
and receiving the supplies once it is delivered to the warehouse. The storage section is responsible
for storing the received supplies on the warehouse shelves, they are also responsible for pulling the
items from the shelves when customers request items that are stored on the shelves within the
warehouse. The issuing section is responsible for issuing and ensuring that supported customers
receive their supplies in a timely manner. The stock control and the issue section have the most
interaction with the supply support activity s customers. Along with the four sections, there is a
position called the accountable officer and a noncommissioned officer in charge(NCOIC). The
accountable officer is overall responsible for accounting for all supplies that is received in the
warehouse until the customers sign for their specific items. The NCOIC works side by side with
the accountable officer and is responsible to ensure that the supply support activity functions as one
cohesive team. Generally there are

Augustus Of Primaporta Analysis
Rome was a very large and powerful city by the first BC but the reign of Augustus transformed it
into an imperial city. In 31 BCE, Augustus became the supreme commander of the Roman
Republic. During the Augustan Revolution, art and architecture pushed a political agenda. Art
portraying Augustus remains common throughout his reign. The art and architecture helped
reinforce Augustuspolitical message that he was the restorer of Rome.
An example of Augustus artistic propaganda is the statue Augustus of Primaporta from 20 BCE.
The statue is a depiction of Augustus as commander of the army. Augustus is depicted as very
youthful and perfect. The statue is very idealized but does include some of Augustus true features.
He is dressed in military clothing while standing in a pose as if he is addressing his troops.
Augustus is portrayed barefoot with cupid riding a dolphin at his side which represents his divinity.
His armor also endorses the political agenda that the gods are ... Show more content on

is not only a portrait but illustrates Augustus military victories and connection to the gods. The
statue of Augustus portrayed as Pontifex Maximus or chief priest from 12 BCE is also a
propaganda driven portrait. August is displayed with his head covered and wearing a robe. He
looks to be dressed for a sacrifice. The statue is still very idealized with Augustus looking strong
and youthful but true features still present. The statue itself displays that Augustus is not only the
ruler of Rome but also the religious leader as

Saving First And Paying Cash
Keep in mind that baby boomers were the first generation to grow up on television and credit
cards (O Neill, 1991). Lusardi (2009) noted that most individuals deal frequently with credit
cards and other forms of borrowing yet only a minority of individuals possess basic financial
knowledge about debt. The previous generation used credit as the ultimate last resort while baby
boomers were conditioned to be much more comfortable with credit. For many baby boomers,
their idea of saving is buying more to receive a discount on the purchase. The concept of saving
first and paying cash has been replaced with the concept of you can have anything your heart
desires today as long as it is within your credit limit. More financial education in this area may be a
way to prevent a future financial crisis. For immediate results, this education can be provided by
financial advisors. As financial planners work with their clients to examine their income, expenses,
assets and liabilities, the numerical ability of consumers can be enhanced, thus potentially reducing
the number of future foreclosures on homes. The need for Financial Advisors The previous

Plot Development in Amy Tan s The Joy Luck Club
Many times plot development is thought of as a key detail in keeping a story organized, while
others would say that plot structure tends to add too much order to a piece of work and hinder the
reader from exploring true creativity. A great example of these two contrasting ideas is illustrated
in Amy Tan s well known novel The Joy Luck Club. Although some could argue that there is no
definite plot structure portrayed at all within the book, this is not true. A slight plot lies within each
individual short story. While there might not be an overall rising and falling action connected
throughout the novel, an exposition, climax, and resolution are clearly illustrated in each story.
Typically, the exposition provides background information and introduces the reader to what the
story will be about. An example of this would be in the beginning of the story, Two Kinds , when
Jing Mei Woo says, My mother believed you could be anything you wanted to be in
America...my mother told me when I was nine (Tan 132). In this quote Jing Mei Woo informs
the reader on how her mother would always tell her that America is the land of opportunity, and
also gives the reader a key idea that follows her throughout much of her life. This idea helps to
explain many of Jing Mei s actions. On the other hand, this story is placed towards the middle of
the novel, meaning this story should begin to set up for the climax of the over all novel. For
example, this story is about her Jing Mei Woo s

Shel Silverstein Influences
Shel Silverstein is a popular American cartoonist, singer, songwriter, playwright and author. He is
mostly known for his children books including the popular, The Giving Tree and Where the

he criticized the sappy endings of happy children stories. However, he was eventually convinced
by a friend to transform stereotypical children s book and he able to become successful in creating
clever and humorous poems and books.

wrote and they were often directly connected. It wasn t until 1963 that Silverstein actually began
writing things for children. Before this he viewed children literature as too sweet and
condescending with nothing but happy storylines. He was finally convinced to start writing
children s literature after he met a book editor named Ursual Nordstrom who told him he should
just change the things about children s literature that he did not like. And that is just what he did;
he reversed the idiotic stories into more realistic portrayals of human life. At first many people did
not approve of his writings. They thought his stories were too inappropriate for children but also
too simple for adults. He ended up bridging children s literature with adult literature. One of his
biggest influences for writing children books and poems was that he just didn t like that children
literature that was out there and wanted to see

A Clockwork Orange Analysis
A Clockwork Orange is a film directed by Stanley Kubrick, which explores the examination of the
baser human emotions. The movie is set in a not so distant ,dystopian future, where an English
society is dominated by an extreme culture of youth violence. The society in the film is one that is
seemingly dictated by primal instincts, a society where murder and rape are commonplace and
sexuality manages to penetrate the facets of their culture; appearing everyone from clothing to
home decor. The story is told by the protagonist, Alex DeLarge. Alex is characterized as a
psychopath and a juvenile delinquent that finds pleasure in violence and rape, but at the same time,
he is intelligent with a sophisticated taste in art, literature and music, being particularly fond of
Beethoven s 9th symphony. Alex undergoes a mental transformation when being a subjective to the
Ludovico experiment which alters his disposition towards the immoral pleasure seeking activities
that had previously entertained him.
Freudian psychoanalytic theory aims to cure mental disorders by investigating the interaction of the
conscious and unconscious elements in the mind. This theory is also based upon the specific
theories of how the mind, the insitincts and secuality work, (Peter Berry, 92). Freud s conception of
the human psyche includes the conscious, the preconscious and the unconscious. The different
forms of Alex that we see before and after the Ludovico technique can be understood in the context
of the three part structural model of the psyche conceived by Freud. That is, the id, the ego, and the
superego.
The id is the part of a personality that contains a person s primitive impulses, such as thirst, anger,
hunger and the desire for instant gratification and release. Freud believed that the id is based on
our pleasure principle, so whatever the id wants at that time to feel good, it will do it, with no
regard or consideration for the reality of the situation. According to Freud, the id presents the
unconscious, instinctive aspect of the personality that serves to relieve pain and tension through
reflec and primary process, (Emmett and Veeder, 231). Alex freely acts out on his id desires through
committing violent acts with

Essay on Cosque Cave
Cosque Cave
Many, many years ago, a cave was in use, and many paintings, drawings, and engravings were put
on the walls of the cave. About ten years ago, a man was diving in the Mediterranean and came
across something that no one would ever think about finding. It was a prehistoric painted cave with
an underwater entrance. It is known today as the Cosquer cave.
Jean Cosquer, a professional diver, discovered the cave. He was diving for no particular reason, and
found a wealth of prehistoric art in the cave. He made this discovery in July 1991, and ever since
more and more research is being done on the Cosquer cave. It is firmly dated one of the Paleolithic
painted caves in the world.

Most of the work on the walls is engraved. Charcoal and ochre were preferred drawing materials.
Less than one third of the work in the Cosquer cave is painted, and the rest is engraved.
The walls of the cave are decorated with land animals, seals and auks, fifty five hand stencils,
and a representation of a killed man. The Cosquer cave artwork is located more in dark, secret
areas and away from the main area of the cave. Thousands of the finger paintings on the soft wall
surface are at a height of three to four meters high. This would mean that the artists of this cave
would have had to use ladders or a tree trunk to make these markings. The majority of the artwork
in the cave is animals. To this date, representations of one hundred and twenty five animals have
been found in this cave. Horses are the dominant animals displayed in the cave. Caprids, goat like
creatures, are the second most dominant animals displayed. Red deer are also represented on the
walls, but bison are more numerous than the red deer. Researches can not quite figure out where the
marine animals fit in with the other paintings and artwork, but there are marine animals painted and
engraved in the cave too. However, they are the least dominant animals presented in the cave.
Thanks to the twelve radiocarbon records, researchers were able to figure out that

  • 2. Hare Checklist Case Study There are advantages to the Hare Checklist, specifically identification of the checklist as one of the most reliable tests at detecting psychopathy, if used by trained, professional personnel (Hare, 1990). The checklist is extensive in the identification of psychopathy, containing a 20 items long list as well as an interview and a review of past records and behaviors (Hare, 1990). The benefits of the checklist include determining the most effective care for an individual diagnosed as a psychopath, and responsibility for identifying possible psychopaths in prisons and other institutions who may become repeat offenders of violent crime(Hare, 1990). The checklist is able to predict, in some cases, the probability of another violent behavior occurring (Hare, 1990).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Those who exploited the checklist became obsessed with identifying a psychopath and began madly labelling individuals, leading to confirmation biases and false diagnoses (Ronson, 2011). In the case of Tony, a gentleman who faked insanity in order to avoid prison, he was kept in a mental institution for twelve years based off of a misdiagnosis of psychopathy identified by characteristics and behaviors he apparently exhibited on the Hare Checklist (Ronson, 2011). The psychiatrist that oversaw him was able to twist every action Tony made or every word he spoke into a further indication of his psychopathy (Ronson, 2011). Tony did not want to spend time around the other patients, which was construed as grandiosity and lack of empathy on the checklist, to name one example (Ronson, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Technology In Modern Society Did you know that the average person in this day and age spends nearly 3.9 years of their entire life using some sort of electronical device? In today s modernized society, we are greatly influenced by the uses of what technology has to offer. Not only does it play a key role in most of our lives, but it has revolutionized the way we actually live. Simply look around you and the chances are you will be faced with a wide array of different electronic technologies that have taken over the way we live. The use of modernized technologyis something rather new, but it is here to stay for years to come. This being said, in today s society, we are simply not mentally capable of understanding the true evils of what the use of technology has in storage for us. Technology has drastically changed throughout the years. From beginning with simple tools, to the current creation of mega powered modernized computers capable of endless possibilities and the list goes on. Whether or not one believes in all this technology is hard to say. But one thing is certain, technology has and will continue to control our lives for hundreds upon hundreds of years to come unless we can make a change. But the odds are,we will never change. The problem with technology is that it makes life so much easier. From contacting someone across the world in a matter of minutes with a couple clicks to controlling the minds and privileges of nearly half of the world s population by simply making it rather easy to ... • 5. The Rape Of The Daughters Of Leucipus Analysis This art piece is titled The Rape of the Daughters of Leucippus and the artist is Peter Paul Rubins. This work was created in 1618 in what was probably Antwerp, Belgium. The socio cultural situation during at that time and place was tense with the short 12 year truce during Eighty Years War that resumed in 1619. This war was being fought at this time in what was called the Low Countries (comprised of some of modern Belgium) and included Antwerp. There were also conflicting religions with Protestants and Catholics at this time as seen with the Thirty Years War that began in 1618. This piece is made of oil paint and was made by using a brush to paint the oil onto the canvas. The story being told here is about the Greek myth of two twin brothers named Pollux and Castor who kidnapped and married the daughters of King Leucippus. Two recognizable images are Castor, who is dressed in garb common for a horse tamer, while Pollux is completely nude. In the image, it is clear that the two daughters are being taken away against their will by the two men with their horses. The exact location of this event is not clear but it appears to be occurring in a green valley of some sort where trees and hills can be seen in the background. Although the time in which it is happening is not evident either, based ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What happens to the daughters of Leucippus in this scene is incredibly tragic and yet the artwork also predicts the tragedy that will befall the brothers. I think the other qualities could be described as dramatic such as the awkward and flailing positions of the women that is meant to bring attention to the piece. This work really reminds me of other traditional art pieces I have seen with the style of the painting and the usage of darks and lights to highlight figures. I think it is very similar to other paintings I have seen about mythical figures but this one seems to emphasize on the roles of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. How To Teach Literacy When it comes to teaching literacy, there can be some confusion because there are several things this one little word encompasses. Literacy has long been known as the ability to read and write but it has recently expanded to include things like computer literacy and competence of other things as well. For most, the process of becoming literate begins in early childhood. It starts by parents and siblings and sometimes even babysitters, nannies or teachers who speak to and around an individual, introducing them to the language of their people. Sometimes this talking to takes place in the form of reading aloud, which is a great way to instill a love of reading, but still does not teach the child how to read. In teaching literacy, there ... • 8. The Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery And The Los... West Los Angeles is home to two prominent cemeteries: the Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery and the Los Angeles National Cemetery. The Westwood Cemetery was constructed in 1905, serving as the rest place for many famous individuals within the entertainment industry. Famous names such as Marilyn Monroe, Dean Martin, Natalie Wood, Roy Orbison, and Jack Lemmon are buried at this gravesite. Nearly less than a mile away from this cemeteryis the Los Angeles National Cemetery. Established in 1889, this national cemetery is home to many members of the armed forces who have actively served in the military and/or law enforcement. These two distinct cemeteries may only appear to share relativity through their short distance, but they also symbolize many cultural aspects of the American ideology. The Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery and the Veterans Cemetery reinforces American societal conformities and ideals by perpetuating the idea of gender bias, displaying extreme idolization of celebrity status, and imprinting religious affiliation. Through tombstone appearance, cultural imprints on the tombstones, and categorization of the tombstones, both cemeteries embody contemporary American and Los Angeles culture. The Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery contains some of the most prominent figures in Hollywood. In addition, the cemetery is the burial site of many common individuals. In comparison to the Veterans Cemetery, the Westwood village Cemetery is extremely small ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Waking By Theodore Roethke Summary People often draw meaning from poetry that in some way allows for a personal connection strengthening the bond the writer hopes to make. The message that the flower of life s beauty can only be witnessed for a brief moment, makes the individual value that time even more. Theodore Roethke s conscious use of rhythmic repetition frames The Waking while emphasizing his view: people are not living life to the fullest. The definition of how to truly live has, as proposed by Roethke, eluded the people of the world. With this crisis he wastes no time in confronting his audience with his truth. In the very first line of the poem he hits us with his first repeated phrase I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow. (Roethke 826) He starts the poem... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Like in a building these lines are used as large supports that hold up the poem and are the focus of each stanza. Line one repeats at the end of stanzas two and four while line three is repeated at the end of stanzas three and five. Interestingly the lines are always placed at the end of the stanza which not only creates rhythm, but also shows that the entire poem boils down to those two main lines. In stanza two Roethke builds on line one by showing natural instinct. He includes the instinctual desire to feel what we cannot see, and to hear which the body often uses to wake up. (Roethke 826) This strengthens the first line and adds to the poem by emphasizing that living half asleep limits a person, and robs them of certain things which otherwise might have been experienced. He continues this pattern of strengthening in stanza three as he now adds more tow line three. By asking a question at the beginning Roethke emphasizes his own imperceptibility which connects to the fact that he must learn of those around him through limited senses. (Roethke 826) When he introduces the notion of god, once again the notion of hope arises while he must still tread softly as not to make a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Analysis Of The Phantom Of The Opera This movie is one I ve came back to often, the acting, music, scenery, and the story itself is what brought me back. I liked how every actor in this film not only fit their role, but also made it believable. If they were to recast the actors today, I don t think they could find better actors to fit the roles. Some of the roles in this are Viscount de Chagny Raoul played by Patrick Wilson, Christine DaaГ© played by Emmy Rossum, The Phantom of the Opera Opera Ghost played by Gerard Butler, these are just the main characters. The role of the Opera Ghost is played by Gerard Butler, his acting was good which wasn t surprising I have seen some of his other roles and they were all well done also. What surprised me the most how well he could sing. There any many characters that are seen throughout the film, some supporting roles include Madame Giry played by Miranda Richardson, Meg Giry played by Jennifer Ellison, Carlotta Giudicelli played by Minnie Driver, Gilles AndrГ© played by Simon Callow, Monsieur LefГЁvre played by James Fleet, and Monsieur Reyer played by Murray Melvin. There are of course extras. This movie is a musical that is mainly drama based, so not only does it help keep the movie interesting, the music is good enough you could listen to it on its own. The movie is set in an Paris Opera House named the Opera Populaire in 1870. The Opera Populaire is very beautiful and huge. The commercial opens up with a young lady in a liqueur store, she is at the counter and ask the clerk for a pack of cigarettes. Nonetheless, in such bloody era, the brilliant Chinese philosophers sprang up and started a Golden Age of philosophy. People call this phenomenon as the Contention of a Hundred schools of Thoughts. The philosophers discussed about the best way for a country to survive, for an emperor to rule and for people to live. Those thoughts impacted the lifestyle and social consciousness not only at that time but even in the following thousands of years, especially for the Confucianism which was exclusively adopted in Han dynasty and rule the China for two thousand years. In this essay, I will focus on the Confucianism, discuss the central doctrines. The Cores of Confucianism As we know During the Spring and Autumn period, China s feudal system gradually became significant irrelevant. The emperor of Zhou dynasty had real control over only a small royal demesne centered on their capital Luoyi near modern day Luoyang. During the early part of the Zhou dynasty period, royal relatives and generals had been given control over fiefdoms in an effort to maintain Zhou authority over vast territory. In most cases, the patient will be referred to a physiotherapist by a physician soon after they are diagnosed with CF. The job of the physiotherapist is to clear mucus secretions in the lungs and try to maintain pulmonary function in the patient. When the patient is in their infancy, the physiotherapist will prescribe exercises that the parents of the child can perform, as the child is unable to take instruction and perform Airway Clearance Techniques. Instead the parents should perform postural drainage and chest percussions [1]. [3] Also, the physiotherapist may work in sync with a radiographer to determine the decrease in pulmonary function through the use of x rays. The physiotherapist also works hand in hand with the physician to determine the frequency of physiotherapy sessions and what is required from the physiotherapy sessions. Wrong, especially one who has never been to an auction, let alone woken up at eight in the morning since mid August. That morning, I was unaware of my ability to learn so much about the microscopic Eastern Shore from a hoarder s garage on steroids. Surprisingly, it s possible for a place that only holds eight percent of Maryland s population to be hectic, but also peaceful and eccentric; its inhabitants could be competitive, friendly, and also rude, all at the same time. Regardless of where I wanted to be, I was in Crumpton, MD on the last Wednesday of September. The sun is nowhere to be seen while drizzling rain is stirring the dirt ground into mud, but regardless of how dark and gloomy the morning felt, the colossal yellowish green building managed to lighten the mood. Its base is compiled of cement blocks and the roof is slanted, painted in a forest green to match the large letters that read Dixson s Furniture Auction. In front of the auction warehouse sat items that belonged to someone at some point, but were in search of a new owner. Each item was systematically scattered throughout the lot. • 19. John Locke And Rousseau s Theory Of The State Of Nature Thomas Hobbes, John Locke and Jean Jacques Rousseau all claim an integral space in the realm of political philosophy. Through their respective dissertations, each author analyzed man in his natural state and derived a form of civil society from that conclusion. While each author observes man in his own way and thus come to his own forms of subsequent government, equality seems to be a defining feature in all of their theories. All authors engage this notion heavily within their texts and use this comparison of man to man to draw powerful inferences from that. This paper will briefly summarize Hobbes , Locke, and Rousseau s definition of the state of nature and then critically analyze the role of equality in crafting the construction of government. In Leviathan, Thomas Hobbes paints a grim picture about man s natural state. Famously characterized as solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short (Hobbes 89), man s life is chaotic. The state of nature, Hobbes insists, is a state of warre(Hobbes 88) which pits men against men. Man naturally aims for felicity, defined as continual success in obtaining those things which a man from time to time desire, that is to say, continual prospering (Hobbes 46). People think of their own interests and their pursuits of said interests may put them into conflict with another, in which violent war may emerge. Man, thus, lives in a state of constant fear. Boyce et al (2010) states, the similarity attraction hypothesis maintains that similarity is a major source of attraction between individuals and that a variety of physical, social, and status traits can be used as the basis for inferring similarity in attitudes and beliefs (p. 916). Compatibility refers to the appropriate combination of client and coach behavior preferences or the characteristics the client and coach possess that influence their cognitions and behaviors in various situations (Boyce et al, 2010, p. 916). It is believed that coaches who are matched with clients based on their styles of behavior and similar personalities are more likely to have a healthier relationship (Boyce et al, 2010). Then again, if a mismatched coaching relationship continues to exist the coach may be able to challenge the client s perspectives, which can result in higher performance outcomes (Boyce et al, 2010). Credibility is another important factor when matching coaches and clients. Boyce, Jackson and Neal (2010) state that, credibility refers to a coach possessing the necessary credentials to meet client needs and include coaching competence and experience (p. 917). When thinking about a novel, one of the most commonly used rhetorical tools used is imagery. When a scene is important for the sake of the plot or important to the author, the author works hard to bring the reader into the world that they see the action happening in. The same can be said of the presentation of a certain sequence within a piece of sequential art. Whereas a square can be seen as an ordinary frame for a comic, when the art is put into any other shape, it now stands out as important to the reader and they are more inclined to noticed more detail within the scene or frame. Then Kant going on to explain that by using reason in a situation, humans would not be able to attain good will as reason cannot be used on a unconditional basis and that would cloud judgement. Kant uses an example of duty to try to explain the difference he sees in something being based on good will or not. The difference lies between a person merely doing his or her duty and doing it because it is her duty. Kant believes that good will is demonstrated only in the latter of the two situations. A person is not demonstrating good will when he or she knows it s wrong but still does their duty. The American precedent cases of Jacob Wetterling, Pam Lyncher, Megan Kanka, and other notorious crimes perpetrated by sexual offenders with a prior history of conviction have demanded a response from the criminal justice system to increase public safety. In 1994, the Jacob Wetterling Crimes against Children and Sexually Violent Offender Registration Program was passed (Scholle, 2000), the first piece of legislation to advocate for the development of state maintained registries of convicted sexual offenders. The legislation has been amended numerous times since then; in its present state, the law requires all states to maintain a registry, the mandatory registration of convicted sex offenders after release, community notification laws in place, and public access to the registry (Burchfield and Mingus, 2012; Lees and Tewksbury, 2006; Petrunik, Murphy, and Fedoroff, 2008; Scholle, 2000; Tewksbury and Lees, 2006; Wagner, 2011). E C Department, Indian Institute Of Technology Roorkee Metamaterial Cloaking Soumay Gupta1andTanvi Sharma1 1411606714116070 1 E C Department, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee Abstract Metamaterials have been a subject of increasing interest due to their ability to manipulate the flow of EM waves. We analyse the mechanism by which metamaterials are able to exhibit this property which is exploited to develop the Harry Potter esque invisibility cloaks. We briefly discuss the whole new branch of optics called Transformation Optics developed for this purpose, and comment on the extent to which these materials can cloak. Introduction Metamaterials are artificially designed materials which have properties that cannot be found in natural materials.[1] They were first theoretically proposed by Veselago in 1968 as materials having negative permeability and permittivity. This is why these are also known as Left Handed Materials (LHM) or Negative Refractive Index materials (NIM). The first discovery in this domain was done by Sir Pendry et al in 1996, who discovered a wire medium with negative permittivity. This was followed by other significant discoveries like negative permeability by Pendry in 1999 and LHM by Sir Smith in 2001. Metamaterial structures can either be periodic (homogenous) or non periodic (inhomogenous). Their properties depend on the construction and arrangement of their constituents. The Role of Sight, Scent, and Sound by the White-tailed Deer Use and relative role of sight, scent, and sound by white tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) to locate and select between different types of foods Introduction The foraging habits of white tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus; hereafter deer) have been extensively researched. Studies have evaluated seasonal influence as well as other environmental influences on forage selection by deer (Moen 1981, Rogers et al. 1981, McCullough 1985, and others). However, no such research has ever tested to determine what senses deer use to locate and select between different food types or the relative importance of each sense involved in that process. We are missing much of the basic knowledge of physiology and anatomy related to the sensory capabilities of deer (D Angelo et al. 2006). Information from this type of research is becoming increasingly important to wildlife biologists, as they can use it to improve other forage selection studies aimed at reducing crop depredation or other wildlife damage. So little is known about the role of sight, smell, and sound in deer ability to locate and select between forage types, therefore quantitative information in this area of research needs further attention (Sayre et al. 1992). By understanding the importance of each sense in the location and selection of different food types by deer, new studies can be set up that focus on the most important sense, while also considering what effects the other senses have on their behavior. What makes 2 Broke Girls different than many other TV sitcoms is that almost every member of the main cast has a different rationality, making the show one of the most diverse sitcoms to ever exist. The two broke girls are named Caroline and Max. Caroline has blonde hair, blue eyes, and a slim figure. She grew up in a wealthy home, never had to work, and attended college. Caroline lived an upper class lifestyle until her father was convicted of financial wrongdoings and lost everything. In contrast, Max has brown hair, brown eyes, and a larger figure and has worked since she was very young. The two girls are waitresses in a run down diner. In addition, the diner is owned by a very short Asian man named Han and the cashier is an elderly black man named Earl. The sitcom follows their lives as they learn how to deal with each other and their lower class lifestyles. Similar to many sitcoms, 2 Broke Girls takes advantage of the diverse ethnic and racial stereotypes of the characters to make comedic entertainment. While the comedyin the show does grab the attention of the audience, what also stands out is the connection of the characters. All of the commonalities that come with living in similar situations overpower their differences in race and ethnicity. During your simulations I bet you wondered about option pricing. If you wanted to geek out, you could use a complicated formula like the infamous Black and Scholes equations. Instead of eating aspirin by the hand full, let s just focus on the basics. An option is a derivative, which means that it is based on the value of another asset. Thus, the stock price or underlying asset is an important feature in determining the pricing. You make money with an option if there is a favorable change in price of the underlying asset, but this must happen before expiration. Therefore, the longer the lifetime of the option, the better chance there is for that opportunity. TYPE OF OPTION: The type of option (put or call) is also highly relevant to pricing. Calls are expected to increase in value as the price of the underlying asset increases. While puts are expected to increase in value as the underlying asset s price decreases. The other factors discussed can also affect the option. Options for stocks that pay a dividend are often worth less because the dividend is priced into the option. The movie is about a teenage mermaid princess named Ariel whose curiosity leads her to defy her father, the mermaid king. Many American girls enjoy the film during childhood and idolize Ariel. While The Little Mermaid continues to entertain children, many parents are unaware that the movie can actually do more bad than good for their little girls . . . Ariel teaches little girls to give up everything that makes them who they are in order to please a man. In Escape from Wonderland: Disney and the Female Imagination, Deborah Ross argues that the goals in which Disney female heroes pursue teach little girls to strive for all the wrong things. For instance, in The Little Mermaid , Ariel risks all of her best attributes to marry a man and walk the earth as a human. Tying the knot with this man is perceived as her goal in life which can impress American girls with the belief that the best thing they can achieve is to win a man and satisfy him. Ross stresses this idea when she writes, what we see her do is flee a world of infinite possibility to settle in a land of the banal [. . .] yes, she gets her legs, she makes her stand, she marches but only down the aisle, to marry some guy named Eric (60). Now that the federal government had been fully established, the United States was settling into the new nation and embark on the journey of becoming a world power. To do so, the republic must construct a thriving industry, or the economy would crash and the nation would become impoverished. However, the industry was not easy to build up. It required careful nurturing and a watchful guide so that it would become the industry in the current United States. Who would cultivate the industry? Rather than a single body or entity, numerous factors resulted in the growth of industry. In the 19th century, the growth of an industry can be attributed to the availability of financing spurred by protective tariffs, the Bank of the United States, a wealth of laborers, and economic expansion. The central government became instrumental in the industry s success by passing tariffs, and in doing so, protecting American businesses. Tariffs were taxes that were passed on goods imported from outside the country. After the War of 1812, even the most stalwart Democratic Republicans [realized] that the United States needed to attain economic independence (Tariff of 1816). This would become a huge danger to the nation s welfare if they ever went to war with Britain again, which was the source of their manufactured goods. Examples Of Critical Discourse Analysis CHAPTER 2 THEORITICAL FOUNDATION 2.1Critical Discourse Analysis To understand the concept of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), it is necessary to see how CDA defines discourse. Discourse is not simply an isolated textual or dialogical structure (van Dijk, 1988). It is seen as socially constructed ways that do not only shape but also enable (social) reality (Foucault, 1977; Paltridge, 2006). It involves a dialectical relationship between a particular discursive event and the situation(s), institution(s), and social structure(s) which frame it (Fairclough Wodak, 1997, p. 258). It also helps to establish power relations between social classes, gender, or majorities and minorities groups (Wodak Meyer, 2009). Plot Development in Amy Tan s The Joy Luck Club Many times plot development is thought of as a key detail in keeping a story organized, while others would say that plot structure tends to add too much order to a piece of work and hinder the reader from exploring true creativity. A great example of these two contrasting ideas is illustrated in Amy Tan s well known novel The Joy Luck Club. Although some could argue that there is no definite plot structure portrayed at all within the book, this is not true. A slight plot lies within each individual short story. While there might not be an overall rising and falling action connected throughout the novel, an exposition, climax, and resolution are clearly illustrated in each story. Typically, the exposition provides background information and introduces the reader to what the story will be about. An example of this would be in the beginning of the story, Two Kinds , when Jing Mei Woo says, My mother believed you could be anything you wanted to be in America...my mother told me when I was nine (Tan 132). In this quote Jing Mei Woo informs the reader on how her mother would always tell her that America is the land of opportunity, and also gives the reader a key idea that follows her throughout much of her life. This idea helps to explain many of Jing Mei s actions. On the other hand, this story is placed towards the middle of the novel, meaning this story should begin to set up for the climax of the over all novel. For example, this story is about her Jing Mei Woo s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He however did not start getting poplar until his cartoons appeared in Playboy. While working at Playboy, he began writing music and poems for different magazines. When Silverstein first began his career in the arts he did not have many influences. His tour of duty however is said to have influenced his dark worldview. The music he wrote was a big influence in the poems he wrote and they were often directly connected. It wasn t until 1963 that Silverstein actually began writing things for children. Before this he viewed children literature as too sweet and condescending with nothing but happy storylines. He was finally convinced to start writing children s literature after he met a book editor named Ursual Nordstrom who told him he should just change the things about children s literature that he did not like. And that is just what he did; he reversed the idiotic stories into more realistic portrayals of human life. At first many people did not approve of his writings. They thought his stories were too inappropriate for children but also too simple for adults. He ended up bridging children s literature with adult literature. • 56. A Clockwork Orange Analysis A Clockwork Orange is a film directed by Stanley Kubrick, which explores the examination of the baser human emotions. The movie is set in a not so distant ,dystopian future, where an English society is dominated by an extreme culture of youth violence. The society in the film is one that is seemingly dictated by primal instincts, a society where murder and rape are commonplace and sexuality manages to penetrate the facets of their culture; appearing everyone from clothing to home decor. The story is told by the protagonist, Alex DeLarge. Alex is characterized as a psychopath and a juvenile delinquent that finds pleasure in violence and rape, but at the same time, he is intelligent with a sophisticated taste in art, literature and music, being particularly fond of Beethoven s 9th symphony. Alex undergoes a mental transformation when being a subjective to the Ludovico experiment which alters his disposition towards the immoral pleasure seeking activities that had previously entertained him. Freudian psychoanalytic theory aims to cure mental disorders by investigating the interaction of the conscious and unconscious elements in the mind. This theory is also based upon the specific theories of how the mind, the insitincts and secuality work, (Peter Berry, 92). Freud s conception of the human psyche includes the conscious, the preconscious and the unconscious. The different forms of Alex that we see before and after the Ludovico technique can be understood in the context of the three part structural model of the psyche conceived by Freud. That is, the id, the ego, and the superego. The id is the part of a personality that contains a person s primitive impulses, such as thirst, anger, hunger and the desire for instant gratification and release. Freud believed that the id is based on our pleasure principle, so whatever the id wants at that time to feel good, it will do it, with no regard or consideration for the reality of the situation. According to Freud, the id presents the unconscious, instinctive aspect of the personality that serves to relieve pain and tension through reflec and primary process, (Emmett and Veeder, 231). Alex freely acts out on his id desires through committing violent acts with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 57. Essay on Cosque Cave Cosque Cave Many, many years ago, a cave was in use, and many paintings, drawings, and engravings were put on the walls of the cave. About ten years ago, a man was diving in the Mediterranean and came across something that no one would ever think about finding. It was a prehistoric painted cave with an underwater entrance. It is known today as the Cosquer cave. Jean Cosquer, a professional diver, discovered the cave. He was diving for no particular reason, and found a wealth of prehistoric art in the cave. He made this discovery in July 1991, and ever since more and more research is being done on the Cosquer cave. It is firmly dated one of the Paleolithic painted caves in the world. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most of the work on the walls is engraved. Charcoal and ochre were preferred drawing materials. Less than one third of the work in the Cosquer cave is painted, and the rest is engraved. The walls of the cave are decorated with land animals, seals and auks, fifty five hand stencils, and a representation of a killed man. The Cosquer cave artwork is located more in dark, secret areas and away from the main area of the cave. Thousands of the finger paintings on the soft wall surface are at a height of three to four meters high. This would mean that the artists of this cave would have had to use ladders or a tree trunk to make these markings. The majority of the artwork in the cave is animals. To this date, representations of one hundred and twenty five animals have been found in this cave. Horses are the dominant animals displayed in the cave. Caprids, goat like creatures, are the second most dominant animals displayed. Red deer are also represented on the walls, but bison are more numerous than the red deer. Researches can not quite figure out where the marine animals fit in with the other paintings and artwork, but there are marine animals painted and engraved in the cave too. However, they are the least dominant animals presented in the cave. Thanks to the twelve radiocarbon records, researchers were able to figure out that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
