Investment Case Study
Do the circumstances surrounding the sale of the Collinsville plant play any role in your willingness to
buy the assets? If so, how, if not, why not?
On the one hand, the circumstances of the sale make me less willing to buy. In particular, both
Universal and the federal government think that American s acquisition creates antitrust issues. If this
is the case, American could use its market power to change the nature of the market and make Dixon s
new plant unprofitable by setting lower prices for sodium chlorate in its other plants. On the other
hand, the circumstances make me more willing to buy the assets because American has to divest the
plant to comply with a court order. Therefore, they have less leverage during the sale ... Show more

With these assumptions, the present value of the total cash flows value the plant at $7.9M.[5] Under
this valuation, the $12M offer seems high and that Dixon should not make the investment without the
laminate technology. Even if we relax the assumptions and use the lower end WACC in our range of
14.5% and assume that capital expenditures will be the low end of the range at $475k per annum after
1984, the deal at $12M would still be dilutive because the DCF value is still only $8.9M.[6] At the
other extreme, assuming a WACC of 18.5% and capital expenditures of $600k per annum, the plant is
only worth $7.5M.
While the model above does not account for the return of working capital at the end of year in 1989,
the discounted value of this working capital is only worth about $650k and therefore does not
substantially alter the analysis.
Given this analysis, the deal is dilutive and Dixon should not make the investment.
2) Evaluate the marginal impact of the laminate technology (i.e. net present value of the costs savings
and expenses assuming that without laminate, graphite costs go up 5% per year after 1984 and power
costs rise 12% after 1984).
The laminate technology requires an upfront capital expenditure of $2.25M that can be straight line
depreciated over 10 years. This laminate will eliminate graphite costs completely and reduce power
costs by 15 20%. Assuming the

How Cram Changed My Life Essay
What happened next changed his life. The first thing Cram noticed, true to himself, was the
architecture. Overall, he was unimpressed with the style, which he never came to appreciate. For about
thirty minutes, Cram battled boredom, until the service started. He described the experience in his own
words:
Then, in their white and gold vestments, the sacred ministers came silently to the high altar, attended
by crucifers, thurifers and acolytes, and stood silently waiting. Suddenly came the bells striking the
hour of midnight, and with the last clang the great organs and the choir burst into a melodious thunder
of sound; the incense rose in clouds, filling the church with a veil of pale smoke; and the Mass
proceeded to its climax with the offering of the Holy Sacrifice of the Body and Blood of Christ. I did
not understand all of this with my mind, but I understood.
After a life growing up in the home of a pastor, studying art, and designing architecture, Cram s
accidental preparation enabled him to understand the experience in a way no one else ... Show more

In May of 1910, the leading businesspeople of Far Rockaway gathered to dedicate the Russell Sage
Memorial Church. In structuring the building, Cram and his associates intentionally shifted theology
to the forefront by moving the organ. One architecture magazine pointed out that in Protestant
churches at that time, the organ often overshadowed both the pulpit and the communion table, but in
Sage Memorial, the organ and choir had been relegated to the sides, highlighting the pulpit and table.
At the dedication, a memorial address proclaimed that the very erection of such a building as this for
His glory is a witness to a believer s sense of his unrivaled greatness and majesty. The architect
theologian designed the church to convey theology and manifest an experience of God s

Electoral College Should Be Abolished
This country claims to have a democratic government, but that s not the case. We are supposed to
derive our votes from the people, the citizens. Yet, the people who decide who gets to be president are
the electoral college. The electoral college consists people who represent about 500,000 people in their
state. Some states don t have much of a population so it was guaranteed that each state will get at least
three electoral votes. Two being the senators each state has and one being a representative in the
House of Representatives. This was to make sure every state has a fair and equal representation in
voting for the president. The whole electoral system isn t fair. Americans are voting for a president, as
they should, but their vote doesn t count. The citizen s vote is called the popular vote and basically
does nothing because the vote that does matter is the electoral vote. The electoral should be abolished
because it is undemocratic, smaller states are being over represented, and it also hurts third parties.
One of the reasons that we should abolish the electoral college is because it undemocratic. Our
country claims that we are democratic and one of our core ideologies is power to the people. And yet
the people who are living under this government have no say in who s the next leader of the United
States? The power is in the electoral college and one of the main actions that goes into determining the
best candidate is the winner take all in which the candidate that

Symptoms And Treatment Of Psoriasis
The term comorbidity refers to the association of two distinct diseases in the same individual at a rate
higher than expected by chance (Bonavita and De Simone, 2008).
Although psoriasis has been previously thought to be a disease solely affecting primarily the skin and
the joints, our understanding of the comorbidities that may be associated with this disease has grown
significantly. Recent evidence has even suggested an increased over all risk of mortality in patients
with severe psoriasis (Gelfand JM et al., 2007).
The presence of comorbidities in dermatology is of interest for various reasons. A skin disease can be
an early marker of systemic disease, and therefore, identify patients who are at risk of having other,

A study by Cohen et al. (2008), supported previous reports of an association between psoriasis and
diabetes mellitus. The age adjusted proportion of diabetes was found to be significantly higher in
psoriasis patients as compared to the control group. A possible explanation for the association between
psoriasis and diabetes is the presence of chronic inflammation that occurs due to secretion of TNF a
and other proinflammatory cytokines such as IL 1 and IL 6, which precipitate both psoriasis and
diabetes.
2) Non Alcoholic Fat Liver Disease (NAFLD)
Prevalence of NAFLD in patients with psoriasis ran¬ges from 17 60% and is even greater in patients
with severe psoriasis and PsA ( Miele et al., 2009) .Similarly, Gisondi et al. speculated that NAFLD
may contribute to the seve rity of psoriasis through the release of inflammatory mediators from the
liver, including reactive oxygen species, CRP and IL 6, which also act as mediators of atherogenesis
(Gisondi et al., 2009),Moreover, patients with psoriasis and NAFLD have higher risk of developing
non alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and cirrhosis than patients with NAFLD without psoriasis
(Wenk et al., 2009). At least in part, progres¬sion of NAFLD to NASH is associated with an increa¬se
in the TNFa/adiponectin ratio. (Sanz Lp , 2007).

Starbucks Is A Leader Of The Coffee House Industry
There is no doubt that humans love their coffee, and with thousands of corporate and franchised stores
all around the world, Starbucks is a leader in the coffee house industry. Formed in Seattle, Washington
over forty years ago, this humble coffee shop has expanded into most every major city in the nation.
According to an article from Huffingtonpost.com, 80% of the population in the lower 48 United States
lives within twenty miles of a Starbucks, and nearly 50% of that population lives within five miles of
one. At any given moment, no one is farther than one hundred and seventy miles away from a

STARBUCKS EFFORT TO LOWER THEIR CARBON FOOTPRINT 3 Since the number of paper
cups that Starbucks goes through on an annual basis is in the billions, a reduction of these cups would
have a great positive impact on the environment. Walk into any Starbucks store and a wide variety of
reusable cups are available for sale. They vary in size, shape, price, and design, but all encourage the
same thing recycling. Starbucks even offers a discount of ten cents when a customer brings in their
own cup, which they display in print on their menu reader board. In early 2013, a Whittier Daily News
article announced the roll out of a new Starbucks reusable plastic cup priced at only a dollar.
Starbucks is trying to reduce the amount of paper cups that end up in a landfill every year. The plastic
reusable cup can withstand about thirty washings in the dishwasher and then once it s no longer
usable, the cup can be recycled, as well. Starbucks kept the cup the traditional white and green themed
design to emulate their standard cup, attempting to reinforce customer s continued loyalty to the brand
(Scauzillo, 2013). Currently, Starbucks is offering a white and red holiday themed plastic reusable cup
for $2.00.

COL Brown requested that all three of his battalions be flown out of LZ X ray. However, General
Westmorland, fearing that this would be seen as an American defeat by the North Vietnamese forces,
overruled his decision. He instructed movements for LTC Tully s battalion to LZ Columbus and LTC
McDade s battalion to LZ Albany for extraction. As the battalions marched from LZ X ray, a flight of
B 52 Stratofortress was dropping munitions on Chu Pong Massif. Tully s unit reached LZ Columbus

Era Of Good Feelings Dbq Analysis
There had been a war between Britain and America, it was known as the War of 1812. This war was
the turning point of America because it had soon led the nation to an Era of Good Feelings. The Era of
Good Feelings is an ironic name because during this time period (1815 1825), it promoted both
sectionalism and nationalism. Although some felt strongly for one way, there were some people who
were in the middle and not exactly which sure they agreed with most. Nationalism is the unification of
a country, and it shows how the country, and how it shouldn t be split up. We are under the most
imperious obligation to counteract every tendency to disunion (doc B). Although the country is split

The agriculturists bear the whole brunt of the war and taxation, and remain poor, while the others run
in the rings of pleasure, and fatten upon them (doc A). This shows that even financially there was a
split because the manufacturers in the North were enjoying their life, while those in the South were
struggling because they were the ones helping with the damage that was made from the war. Another
way the nation was split up was through their states and how the population had varied in the states.
Document E shows that although the state had ranges of population, there were are states that
obviously have more than others, meaning the North has way more than the South. Lastly, in
Document I the states had been split in a way they view politics. In 1820, it s evident how they were
unified with voting, but come 1824 the votes had been scattered. The reason being was because of the
different opinions on slavery. The southern region was primarily pro slavery while the north was anti
slavery. Come the time of the voting, Andrew Jackson, a candidate from that the South had wanted to
win, had won. Their vote was honestly on whoever would allow them to keep slaves, which was

Rhetorical Analysis Of Brutus Vs. Wilkes Booth
Argumentative Essay: Brutus v. Wilkes Booth The assassinations of Julius Caesar and Abraham
Lincoln can be compared using the logic of their murders: Marcus Brutus and John Wilkes Booth.
Brutus, a noble Roman and dear friend of Caesar was drawn to the knife by his overwhelming
patriotism, while Booth, an actor and Confederate, was led by God . Both figures write about their
reasoning and manipulate rhetoric to convince the audiences that their acts were just. Their
manipulation of literary devices to persuade the people is compelling, but at the center of each
situation, Brutus and Booth are killers. Marcus Brutus and John Wilkes Booth believe themselves to

The men primarily use why and who in their writings. These questions are also the ones ringing in the
ears of the public, who mourn for their deceased heroes. Marcus Brutus and John Booth know this,
and make sure to use the questions they know everyone is wondering about to aid their arguments.
The two men take these questions and flip them on the public to make them question themselves and
the current opinion they have instead of thinking about attacking the speaker further. To make an
individual question the credibility of their own beliefs opens the door for persuasion, which is what
Booth and Brutus are relying on. Using this method to support an argument is fairly weak, and shows
the flaw that exists in murder for the right reasons . The speakers draw the focus away from themself

To What Extent Were African-American Slaves “Free” After...
Abstract:
To what extent were African American slaves free after the abolition of slavery by the Emancipation
Proclamation in 1863? What challenges did they face after their emancipation? This is a subject of
continued interest. History is rife with records of decades of untold torture and harrowing experiences.
African American slaves suffered at the hands of their captors and masters. They were denied all
natural rights as human beings and forced to live like animals. A slave was viewed as one third of a
person and the property of their owner(s) and treated as objects, mere things. One would therefore
assume that after their emancipation, life would become significantly better because the slaves were

Being pregnant did not spare a slave woman the whip or rod. A hole was dug for her to rest her belly
while being whipped. They were also at constant risk of losing members of their families if their
owners decided to sell them for profit, punishment, or to pay debts. Slavery indeed was dehumanizing
in every sense of the word.
The Declaration of Emancipation was monumental, and came with the renewed sense of hope that life
after their emancipation would become significantly better. Being free, the former slaves envisaged
being able to live with a sense of purpose and pride in a land ripe with a cornucopia of opportunities
waiting to be capitalized on. Spirits were high and celebration took place as ideas and fantasies of a
rich lifestyle with a good standard of living were being formulated.[1] For some ex slaves, their
dreams became somewhat of a reality as their fight for survival during slavery helped them develop
the wits needed to succeed in their new found world. Unfortunately, there were many tragic
disappointments, as nearly all the slaves that were emancipated were forced to return back to their old
masters after leaving the plantations, starving and diseased.[2] Many were not able to survive on their
own. This came as a result of both internal and external forces being somewhat trapped by their own
helplessness, insecurities, lack of knowledge[3] and still viewed as

Netherland Geography
When most people think of the Netherlands what comes to mind are bland dresses with wooden shoes,
fields of tulips, windmills of all shapes, and the bordering North Sea with hundreds of canals flowing
in and out of the country. Contrary to what most people would believe, Dutch history is dynamic,
dramatic, and in some stages even exciting. With no real solidified date of origin, it is common
knowledge that the country thrived off seaports that bordered the western coasts. Formerly joined with
what we now know as Belgium, the Netherlands was once a fruitful nation in seventeenth and
eighteenth centuries, being home to many anglers, ship builders, and sea traders. Although it was

Mountains. Vaalserberg is the highest point of the Netherlands reaching three hundred and twenty two

of years the Dutch people have struggled with the sea flooding their lands and taking tens of thousands
from the population. Faced with an on going threat that repeated itself many times of the course of the
country s history, the Dutch developed ways to combat this. Dutchman built raised farmlands and
villages with polders and countless amounts of windmills to try to remove water from the areas below
sea level. In the nineteen thirties, the Dutch built a dike, the Afsluitdiijk, to aid in warding off the sea
from flooding their lands (Netherlands Geography, September 29, 2015). Over the next twenty years,
this provided a means to help aid in combating the floods but in nineteen fifty three, the sea struck
again. High waters claimed innocent lives and raised more questions on how to combat their lengthy
coasts effectively. The Dutch had taken enough tolls from the sea and came up a resolution that is
running to this day. Delta Works is a massive chain of flood protection structures consisting of thirteen

Argumentative Essay On Sex Education
Transitioning from childhood to teenage years is already awkward enough for most girls, but the talk
is unbearable for some. Little do these young minds know that the scariest part of sex education is the
lack of accurate and detailed information. A shortage of information on their own bodies can have
grim effects on their sexuality later in life. Inadequate sex education for adolescents has consequently
set the foundation for an orgasm inequality, favoring men over women. The nation s incomplete
standards for sex education has consistently failed young women in teaching them enough about their
own anatomies. An interview has been conducted with an 18 year old cisgendered woman named
Carly. The purpose was to study how well an average young woman knows herself and her own
sexuality. Carly completed sex education in the state of Wisconsin. Currently in the united states there
are no federal laws that dictate a uniform sexual health education curriculum (Koepsel 2016). How,
and what is taught is left to each of the individual states (Koepsel 2016). As a result, a range of
information is being taught to Americans, but it may or not be favorable to the student s well being. It
seems rather controversial that local governments, which students can rarely participate in, choose the
fate of their sexual health education. It is an unfair system that ultimately allows only those who have
had extensive and medically accurate education a future in sexual well being. Carly explained

The Bible Is True And Not Myths
Archaeology has verified that the bible is true but how? First, archeology has confirmed the biblical
stories are true and not myths, as the world believed, because of ancient sites and civilizations
discovered. Second, manuscripts that were found and translated has shown people today how the
people back in the bible lived and worked. Last but not least, archeology has shown where major
events, like battles, have gone on and during what year, they happened. According to Archeology and
the Old Testament, the book of Judges took place around the Iron Age period, which was 1200 586
BC. Excavations have provided some useful information about daily life in ancient Israel during
Judges, including the land, climate and people. However, before we learn about how people lived their
daily lives in Israel during the Iron Ages, we should learn about the geography of Israel. The land of
Israel stretches from Dan in the North to Beersheba in the South and from the Mediterranean Sea in
the west to the Transjordan in the east. Israel s landscape is divided into five main regions and even
though the regions are in the same place they all receive different amounts of rain, which produce
different crops. The first region, the coastal plain, goes along the Mediterranean coast to Rosh
HaNiqura, receives about 25 to 16 inches of rain which is a great place to grow grain. The second
region, is the central mountain range that goes from Galilee to Negev Highlands; this region receives

Empiricism and Experience
Empiricism Empiricism by nature is the belief that there is no knowledge without experience. How
can one know what something tastes like if they have never tasted it? For example, would someone
know that an apple is red if they have never actually have seen one. Someone can tell you an apple is
red, but, if you never have seen one, can you really be sure? Empiricists use three anchor points in
which they derive their opinions from. The first of these points is; the only source of genuine
knowledge is sense experience. An easier way to understand this is to compare the mind to a clean
sponge. As the sponge touches things, it takes with it, a piece of everything it touches. Without this,
the sponge would remain clean and be void of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second epistemological question is; does reason provide us with knowledge of the world
independently of experience? John Locke says the answer to this question is no. He uses arguments
discussed in the third anchor point of empiricism to support this idea. Locke does not believe that
reason alone can provide knowledge because we do not possess innate knowledge that we are not
aware of. To best describe this Locke proposes this model: Suppose the mind to be, as we say, white
paper, void of all characters, without any ideas; how comes it to be furnished? When man has painted
on it with endless variety, how does it have all the materials of reason and knowledge to this question I
answer, in one word, from experience. In that all our knowledge is founded, and from that, it
ultimately drives itself (p94). Therefore, without these experiences Locke believes that we would not
possess the concept of reason and because of that reason alone cannot provide us knowledge of the
world. Berkeley s answer to the second question is no as well. He believed that it was only through
experience and not reason that we have any knowledge of reality. Since our experiences differ from
each individual, reality too will differ for each individual. These ideas as he calls them are the
concrete contents of our minds. These ideas are provided through experience and not reason.
Therefore, we can not posses knowledge through our reasoning because that reasoning would be based

Electromagnetic waves
At this point in the course we ll move into optics. This might seem like a separate topic from
electricity and magnetism, but optics is really a sub topic of electricity and magnetism. This is because
optics deals with the behavior of light, and light is one example of an electromagnetic wave.
Light and other electromagnetic waves
Light is not the only example of an electromagnetic wave. Other electromagnetic waves include the
microwaves you use to heat up leftovers for dinner, and the radio waves that are broadcast from radio
stations. An electromagnetic wave can be created by accelerating charges; moving charges back and
forth will produce oscillating electric and magnetic fields, and these travel at the speed ... Show more

The energy in an electromagnetic wave is tied up in the electric and magnetic fields. In general, the
energy per unit volume in an electric field is given by: In a magnetic field, the energy per unit volume
is: An electromagnetic wave has both electric and magnetic fields, so the total energy density
associated with an electromagnetic wave is: It turns out that for an electromagnetic wave, the energy
associated with the electric field is equal to the energy associated with the magnetic field, so the
energy density can be written in terms of just one or the other: This also implies that in an
electromagnetic wave, E = cB.
A more common way to handle the energy is to look at how much energy is carried by the wave from
one place to another. A good measure of this is the intensity of the wave, which is the power that
passes perpendicularly through an area divided by the area. The intensity, S, and the energy density are
related by a factor of c: Generally, it s most useful to use the average power, or average

How Did Fleche Wrote The Revolution Of 1861
I feel like Andre M. Fleche wrote, The Revolution of 1861: The American Civil War in the Age of
Nationalist Conflict to expand reader s knowledge and comprehension of nationalism occurring in the
Civil War during the nineteenth century, on a global spectrum. Andre Fleche wanted to inform readers
how the northern and southern disputes on race, social class and labor has been influenced from other
international events. One reason why Fleche wrote The Revolution of 1861 was to prove that the pan
European revolutions of 1848 were an influence on Americans contemplating the civil war. In Fleches
book he had multiple arguments, one of his arguments was that the legacy of 1848 was an influential
model for both the northern and southern sides competing national ideologies, each having their own
lesson and view of opinion difference (Fleche 3). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One reason of this spread, was the fact that other countries were noticing Europe s independence and
they also wanted to establish their own nations and have freedom. A few topics that Fleche discusses
in his book are how in chapter one slavery was viewed as a threat in the advancement of nation
building plans in America, chapter two discusses how The Revolution of 1861 forced states to choose
a party, chapter three talks about problems in Northern Nationalism consisting of local rights and
central authority tension, and helping Great Britain realize its self determination (Fleche 81). In the
last chapter of his book, it goes on to say how in most conflicts violence led to political tyranny;

Eliminating Religion from Daily Life with the...
During the revolutionary era in France, in which the National Convention took control of
revolutionary France, a new calendar was adopted. This revolutionary calendar was implemented in
November of 1793, in an attempt to replace the Gregorian calendar completely. The National
Convention adopted a new calendar in France at the time of a revolution in an attempt to increase the
number of work days on peasants and reduce the influence of Christianity throughout the country;
however most of the general public as well as government officials reacted negatively. One major
reason as of why the revolutionary calendar was put into effect was in order to eliminate religion from
daily life. The traditional Gregorian calendar was originally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

However because this article was written under Napoleon I, and from the perspective of people who
did not agree with the calendar the article may be very biased. Another reason for the adoption of a
new calendar is that the government did not want religion to determine the lives of the French people.
According to Pierre Joseph, the Jacobins were attempting to rid France of religion and the old order by
replacing it with Deism (Document eight). With the incorporation of deism into everyday life people
could focus more on reason, being less influenced by religion. However, because Pierre Joseph was a
Girondin he was very opposed to the views of the Jocobins, so of course he believed the removal of
religion from French society to have negative impacts. Less religious aspects in everyday life would
allow the French people to be more productive by reducing their time to worship, in turn giving them
more time to work. The revolutionary calendar sought out to improving productivity among the
peasantry. The National Convention stated that the Gregorian calendar had too many religious
holidays. One of the complaints in the Cahier de Doleances included the limitation on the number of
religious holidays so that the so called great people were no longer a disadvantage to the state
(Document one). In order to make the French people more productive there needed to be a reduction

Ikea: How The Swedish Retailer Became A Global Cult Brand IKEA is a well known global brand

using its strengths and reducing its weaknesses. This helps IKEA to retain its strong identity in market.

Hybrid strategy is a problem as IKEA is concentrating only on low cost and differentiating in design
without considering the cultural values and norms enriched in different countries. American customers
want more comfortable sofas, higher quality textiles, bigger glasses, more spacious entertainment
units. Japanese want high quality and great materials, not low price and particle board. Large Hispanic
families need dining tables and sofas that fit more than two people, which is the Swedish norm. They
prefer bold colors to the more subdued Scandinavian palete and display tons of pictures in elaborate
frames. 3.0. Analysis of the External and Internal Analysis 3.1. External Environment The world is
experiencing tremendous and influential change. Although the company opened 14 new stores in
fiscal 2003, sales growth was only 2.7%, largely as a result of the depressed economic conditions
across Europe, the company s core business region (Global Market Information Database, 2004).
Thus, it is clear that, in order to improve performance at a significant level, simply opening new stores
is not enough. Instead, IKEA must assess its external and competitive environment, determine the key
opportunities and threats which face it, and align its strengths and weaknesses to best counter the weak
consumer market, and thus generate the strong growth it needs to remain a strong brand and presence
in its chosen markets (Johnson, Scholes and Whittington, 2005) 3.1.1 Macro

The Life Of A Slave Girl By Harriot Jacob
I never really paid attention to slavery as I did right now. I heard, of course, of all the basic details of it
like everyone else and hated the idea of it, but after reading this story, it really hit me on what slaves
went through back in the day. In the novel Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl , Harriot Jacob
chronically writes about her personal struggles and sufferings and that of her families throughout the
better portion of her life from childhood to adulthood. Throughout this revealing story, this brave and
courageous woman opens my eyes on the extent of the extreme hardships, unfairness, and cruelty that
many slaves have faced and lived through every day and every hour with just the hope and faith in

119). While the men do work from dawn to dusk, they do have the comfort of having rest at night
most of the times. The women however, work all day and are called upon the master and mistress s
every request even during the night, away from their own families. Most mistresses have women as
their child s nurses through the early periods of birth so that the mistress is not bothered in her sleep
by the baby. These women were to be found sleeping on the floor at the entry of their owners
bedroom, ready to be awakened if the child woke up. One person that I recalled reading that had this
unfortunate position was Jacob s aunt. While in the pregnancy of her own kids, she was required to
resume her place on the entry floor, because Mrs. Flint s babe needed her attentions. (Jacobs, pg. 217).
It shows to show that female slaves own needs was not even thought of at all and was shown no

page that would allow exporting of this data to an SD card by the end user.
WAAS Data Logging Gathered WAAS data as it was being sent to our system and stored the

Obstacle DB Integration I wrote the requirements for the integration of the obstacle database for the
system I was working on.
Mock up UI Options The pages I created all had to be accessed from other pages. Because of this we
had to do a review of how the pages would look after I had changed them to ensure they still met
Garmin standards. I had to adjust the size of some icons, text, and move buttons around. In many
cases I submitted multiple different possible layouts for the changed pages so that our UI team could
pick the option that looked best.
Wiki Pages Created a wiki page for new hires and interns on our team to show them how to use the
GIT repo our team had. This shows how to get it set up and how to use the features of GIT that were
used on the team I was on.
Main Project Details
Probably the single best project that describes my internship is the data logging project. This was a
project that I was given almost a month after I started but also lasted until almost the end of my
internship. This was also one of the largest projects I worked on that I can discuss in enough detail to
explain why it describes my internship.
This was a great project for any intern or new employee because of the amount of exposure that it
gave to the codebase. It required pieces of many different part of the Garmin libraries as there was a
lot of information that went into the logs. Because of this, I had to gain more understanding

Die Hard is a classic action movie that shows rampant gender bias. Of the characters in the film, not
only are the majority of them men, but also the male characters have more important roles as well as
significantly more screen time. In contrast, there are only three women with names and lines, and only
one of them actually contributes substantially to the plot. Holly is an exception to the rule when it
comes to the jobs of the female characters in the movie, but not to the extent that she should be. More

Essay about Ford Pinto
Ford Pinto Case
The humankind history has probably never known one completely successful product a product that
would never break down or malfunction. The ideal product is a myth because in reality, there has been
and always will be mistakes and flaws in the technology and production. When there are only a small
percentage of defective pieces, it is easy to blame the individual product. It is when there is repetitive
malfunction of the same system under the same conditions that people begin to ask the question.
(Birch, et. al. 21) Who is at fault? Is it the production line error? Is it the engineer who designed it, or
the person who developed the process? Ford Pinto is one of the examples of such repeated
malfunction of a product, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of such a rush in development, as well as such a strict limitation in weigh and cost, the
technology was substantially modified and the sequence of the events in the development cycle was
altered as well.
As per Dowie, in the normal development cycle of 43 months, the tooling which takes longest time to
accomplish of about 18 months, takes place when all other processes like design, styling, product
planning, advanced engineering, etc. have been finalized and approved. (3) Since there were only 25
month allocated to come with a model of Ford Pinto, tooling was going in parallel with the product
development. Another important aspect, as Dowie points out, was competition over trunk space which
dictated engineers to avoid designing a gas tank that would substantially reduce the trunk space.
Therefore, the designers decided not to use the Ford s patented safe saddle type tank which would be
positioned over the rear axle, but place the gas tank between a weak bumper and a rear axle. (4)
When crush tests revealed that the weakest part of Ford Pinto was the gas tank that would be
punctured by the bolts on the rear axle during the rear impact crash, there was no time to change the
tooling. Another obstacle for Ford Pinto s safety was negative position of the General Manager, Lee
Iacocca, on importance of the safety. He was known for saying . ..safety doesn t sell (Dowie, 5) and
that only meaning of that phrase was that he did not

they formed the Earth Liberation Front in England in 1992. (ADL.org) This group prefers to use non

it doesn t target human or animal related targets. The ELF has set some new record for property

Carl Gustav Jung and the Buddhist Mandala Essay
Carl Gustav Jung and the Buddhist Mandala
A one time disciple of Sigmund Freud s, Carl Gustav Jung (1875 1961) is credited with contributing
significantly to the burgeoning field of psychotherapy by formulating some of the first ideas regarding
dream analysis, psychological complexes and archetypes (paradigmatic images or instinctive impulses
to action). As part of his search for universal keys to the human psyche, Jung also studied and wrote
numerous commentaries throughout his career on Eastern religious texts and practices. His reading of
Buddhism however, is fundamentally faulted as evidenced by his misunderstanding and
misrepresentation of mandala symbolism.

He writes [the mandala is the] living conception of the self. The self, I thought, was like the monad
that I am, and which is my world. The mandala represents this monad, and corresponds to the

Buddhist mandala meditations thus functioned to deconstruct self centeredness, but Jungian mandalas
served to affirm, sustain and maintain the health and integrity of the monad of the self. And while
Buddhist mandala visualizations culminated in the existential act of dissolving elaborate self
constructions into emptiness, Jung s mandala therapy ultimately culminated in individuation or the
personal and conscious realization of the universal Self that lies at the unconscious center of our
being. 5
In light of his universal psychologizing of the mandala motif, one must ask just how or why Jung
hermeneutically superimposed his psychological balancing act of conscious and unconscious elements
over the mandala motif, when

Contemplative Importance
The Importance of Contemplative Practices in an Academic Environment (pt. 1)
Contemplative practices can take several forms, including meditation, prayers, and certain physical
exercises such as yoga. Before taking Education in the USA, I had spent very little time participating
in these practices except for the occasional yoga session my former tennis coach would instruct me to
attend. However, these were cases of me superficially participating in that practice. Since participating
in our Wednesday discussions which include a 5 to 10 minute period of meditation, the what s
present/what are we experiencing? exercises, and occasionally, the placement of different objects and
words in the center of the room I have become increasingly aware of the importance of these practices
in relation to both the material we are covering in lectures as well as our individual beings. In my
opinion, the respective purposes of these different contemplative practices have been to cultivate a
sense of mental calmness while taking a break from our busy lives, identify the importance of fully
embracing the present moment, and expose us to different viewpoints and reactions regarding certain
topics, ultimately forcing us to think critically and respond constructively to them. The meditation
portion of our Wednesday discussions allows us to take a step away from the rigorous classwork and
constant worrying about due dates by instead focusing solely on our breathing. Since arriving at

Financial Statements Of American Heart Association
The financial statements of American Heart Association convey valuable information to outside users
about the organization and how it utilizes financial resources. The objective of this essay is to identify
five things that can be learned about an organization from their financial statements.
The first thing that can be learned about every nonprofit comes from reviewing the Statement of
Activities and the following Statement of Functional Expenses. These statements describe a broad
categorization of the different program related services provided and the supporting services needed to
run those programs. Expenses related to these programs are defined as those directly relating to the
organization s mission or purpose. For AHA, their programs include research, public health education,
professional education and training, and community services. Supporting services are those that do not
directly relate to the mission or purpose of the organization, and therefore can be further split into
services required to generate future contributions and services to run the administrative side of the
organization. The Statement of Functional Expenses provides a breakdown of natural expenses
(salaries, rent, professional fees, etc.) by the different program and supporting services. This allows
the user to see a breakdown of the salaries expense number by program, fundraising, and
administrative staff. A common tool for comparing and evaluating nonprofits is to compare program
expenses to

The Preterm Birth And Autism
Prematurity and Autism have long time been thought to be linked. For reason such as late
development of preterm infants to the lack of adequate weight at birth. But, is it true that if a baby is
born preterm then they are destined to be autistic? In order to answer that question, we must first be
educated on preterm infants as well as the disorder of Autism. Not many people are educated on what
Autism is and even less are educated on the health and well being of premature babies. The purpose
for this research is to shed some light on both autism and premature birth as well as justify if there is
any connection between preterm birth and autism.
When one thinks of a baby born prematurely many imagine a tiny one pound baby barely able to live
even with all the ventilators and machines hooked up to it. They imagine a baby that will be under
weight and unable to leave the hospital for many months to come. Few will know the risk factors that
come along with being preterm, and even less will know that preterm babies are just as capable of
living healthy and normal lives. Every child develops in their own unique way, and your baby s
development will depend on a range of factors, including his genetic make up, and the environment
and influences around him (https://www.tommys.org).
For those who are unsure of what qualifies a baby as premature, a premature baby is any baby that is
born before 37 weeks gestation. Any baby born at 37 weeks or higher is considered full term. Late

For the option discussing with a co worker, the mean pre training rating was 3.4, as compared to a
mean post training rating of 3.6, a statistically significant change at p lt;.05. 3. Using the Kirkpatrick
Evaluation Model did the training achieve the desired results? Why or why not?
Results from the case study information indicate that the Sexual Harassment Prevention Training
program achieved the goal of increasing the likelihood that attendees would contact a manager and/or
human resources if sexually harassed. The training program also achieved the goal of decreasing the
likelihood that trainees would ignore sexually harassing behavior (Moskowitz, 2008). 4. Where any
unexpected questions raised from this training? If so which questions? If not, why do you think the
results were expected?
Yes. In this case study, or evaluation process, we found that the trainees would rather confront the
harassers face to face as a first line of defense rather than seeking help elsewhere. 5. Which levels of
information were collected and used in the Kirkpatrick Evaluation Model?

You will excuse me if I ask you a few questions, for Lady Sydney s note was very brief, and I left
everything to her Judgment. (page 1) . This expression from the lady of the house of Coventry is proof
that Jean had begun to win her over. Next is Sir John who is the oldest member of the Coventry house
and one of the first men to take a liking to Jean, he first encounters her in the park of the mansion
where he normally resides. Jean wanders into the park while taking in its beauty and admiring the
scenery, after a while Sir John and Jeans paths cross in the park, Jean seizes this opportunity to start
winning over Sir John so she plays innocent she seemed conscious of his presence in a moment,
turned with a startled look, uttered an exclamation of surprise, and looked as if hesitating whether to
speak or run away. (Chapter 2) Sir John completely oblivious to jeans true intentions goes onto say I
beg your pardon for disturbing you, young lady. Allow me to atone for it by inviting you to walk
where you will, and gather what flowers you like. I see you love them, so pray make free with those
about you. (Chapter 2) this is a sequence in which jeans plan is set into motion by seeming so innocent
and naive she again portrays herself as something that she is not therefore playing on the emotions of

Social Class Is An Ongoing Problem
Social class is an ongoing problem in education, especially for those living on the lower end of the
divide. More than one in five of Scotland s children are living in poverty. In this essay I will consider
why social class is an ongoing problem, its influence on wellbeing and achievement, and propose
ways in which we can attempt to combat these issues. This will be accomplished with reference to
concepts, theories and the scenarios detailed in appendix A, B and C.
According to Bourdieu s highly influential theory of cultural reproduction, children from middle class
families are more advantaged in gaining qualifications due to their possession of cultural capital
(Lamont Lareau, 2011). Cultural capital can be defined as a deeply ingrained knowledge of society s
high culture and taste, behaviours, linguistic cues and the education system. Cultural reproduction
refers to the transmission of these aforementioned cultural values and norms between the generations.
This can only be produced by family upbringing in the home (Bourdieu Passeron, 1990). This
transition enormously influences children s success in school and later in life (Sullivan, 2001).
However the distribution of cultural capital is severely inefficient (Bourdieu and Passeron, 1977).
Sullivan (2001) applied Bourdieu s theory and found that the working class lack the same cultural
capital as the middle class. His research suggests that although working class children can build this
knowledge, they will never

Persepolis
A Color Has Many Meanings Persepolis is a story that is illustrated in black and white. The author,
Marjane Satrapi, uses many visual techniques throughout the story to draw in the reader and develop
the storyline. One of these visual techniques is that she chooses to use the color of the characters
clothing as a representation of how they feel towards the revolution. The characters are shown wearing
black, white, or a mixed black and white pattern. The characters in Persepolis are drawn with white
clothing when they are supporting the revolution. There are many instances throughout the story when
characters are drawn with white clothing, especially Marjane s family. A year after the Islamic
Revolution started, children were obligated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People opposing the revolution are always shown in black. This includes the army, and people who
torture progressive prisoners. Examples of these can be found on pages 51 and 18. Whenever a
progressive person has been punished by the fundamentalists, they are shown in black instead of
white. This could be because the fundamentalists have forced their views upon this captured and
punished person. Examples of this happening are when political prisoners are released from prison and
wearing black (Satrapi 47), when Marjane s mother has been verbally tormented by fundamentalists
(Satrapi 74), and finally when Siamak s sister was killed and found in the street and is drawn in black
(Satrapi 66). Sometimes Marjane is shown in black. This occurs when her religious views are seeping
through. She claims she wants to be the next prophet. Since this is a religious view that would support
the Shah and the fundamentalist side, Marjane is shown in black (Satrapi 6). After Marjane learns
about the King and God in school, she goes home to her parents and tells them how much she loves
the King because he was chosen by God. She is of course wearing black in this panel because it is
supporting the fundamentalist side of the revolution (Satrapi 19). The Shah believes in eliminating
social classes and having everyone look the

Communication In Autistic Children
The definition as well as the symptoms of autism have been mentioned in the previous part of the
research proposal. Symptoms of autism will usually start showing when a child is around 18months
(Hourigan Hourigan, 2009:40). The main problem concerning autism that this literature study will
focus on is the delay and defect with regards to communication in the autistic child with specific
reference to the classroom situation.
Extensive studies have been done on the autistic spectrum disorder. These children will be introverted
and usually live their lives in an isolated world. They struggle with many different aspects of everyday
life which causes them to retreat into their comfort zone of seclusion. Educators and teachers should
strive to understand this comfort zone in order to be able to relate and communicate effectively with
these children. Autistic children struggle to relate with one another, communications are extremely
difficult. Different strategies should be implemented to encourage and help autistic learners to
communicate more effectively with one another and with their teachers to facilitate teaching and
learning in the classroom. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not only do these children seem to enjoy music but they also frequently demonstrate a high level of
musical ability (Armstrong, 2010). Autistic children perform exceptionally well in areas of music
when compared to the average healthy child. Armstrong (2010) further states that music also seems to
have an effect on the ability of people with autism to memorise nonvisual material . Clearly, autistic
children have a strong affinity towards music. The fact that children with autism display special
interest and ability in music has led to the question whether music can t play a role in the
communicative approach with these

Assembly Line Analysis
6. Assembly line: In this department the main assembly line associates install all components into the
vehicle with ease as the vehicles doors are removed before they are being sent to this department.
After the doors are fully assembled, vehicles are sent back to the main line to be reattached to the unit.
I. Assembly line overview: This assembly line has 5 zone and they are wiring and tubing, interior,
chasee, exterior and complex. Each process within that specific zone gets thoroughly examined by an
associate before it travels in lorry to the next zone. Numerous build sheets escort each vehicle through
assembly. A build sheet classifies the appropriate parts to install on the units and helps associates
approve quality as the vehicle move through production.

Vehicle quality: In this department there are series of test involved to check the vehicle quality and
100% of the units are sent through this process. Sophisticated features such as adaptive cruise control,
line spot monitoring, forward collusion warning and lane change monitoring systems are adjusted and
verified first. Then, the unit receives a static wheel alignment and the headlights are adjusted. The unit
is driven on a dynamometer which checks engine and transmission functions, cruise control and the
anti lock braking system. After that, the unit is sent through a shower testing booth to check for water
leaks and driven on a test tracks, testing various roads surfaces. Additional examinations will take
place to confirm quality before the vehicle is transported to the dealership.
Poka yoke and Kaizen are the lean tools used in this department. Here all the items are examined
properly before sending the car to the market for the purchase. This means that all items will be
properly tested for error proofing. Since Poka yoke helps in mistake proofing and avoiding all the
error, I believe this tool has been executed successfully in this department.

Summary Of The Omnivore s Dilemma By Michael Pollan
In the second section of Michael Pollan s book, The Omnivore s Dilemma, pastoral grass and organic
foods are the main focus and many agree that grass is a far better choice for animals that graze. By
switching a cows diet back to normal food, will impact the market of food prices because the supply
would not be able to keep up with the demand, thus making the food market a disaster, or at least that
s what I picture when I think of the outcome. The demand for beef now is so great that these cattle are
being slaughtered at roughly 12 months, that s not even half of the total life span they re supposed to
live. A grass fed cow takes about 4 5 years to be ready for some great steaks, but thanks to our wonder
crop, corn , we can slice that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yes, the government owns the word organic and they have the power to decide what the term actually
means, for example the organic food that is produced in these industrial organic farms are subject to
the same repugnant conditions all other conventional farms are subject to. As a father, I can recall
making decisions on purchasing the more expensive food item because it was right next to the bad one
and the good one had on the label that it was organically made so I never bothered to read the label. If
I would ve stopped and read the labels, I would ve discovered that the good decision that I had made
for the health of my family was actually just as bad as the food we are trying to stay away from. Even
the stores such as Trader Joes and Whole Foods are guilty of having tainted food in their aisles.
Growing up with a mother that is conscious of her health, these healthy food markets are a shock to
find out they are killing us too. In an article by Darla Cameron and Peter Whoriskey, Who is behind
organic brands, they say that Consumers may not know that these 92 organic food brands are owned
by some of the nation s largest food processors. , the largest food processors are in deep with
government that there is not enough regulations to

  • 2. Investment Case Study Do the circumstances surrounding the sale of the Collinsville plant play any role in your willingness to buy the assets? If so, how, if not, why not? On the one hand, the circumstances of the sale make me less willing to buy. In particular, both Universal and the federal government think that American s acquisition creates antitrust issues. If this is the case, American could use its market power to change the nature of the market and make Dixon s new plant unprofitable by setting lower prices for sodium chlorate in its other plants. On the other hand, the circumstances make me more willing to buy the assets because American has to divest the plant to comply with a court order. Therefore, they have less leverage during the sale ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With these assumptions, the present value of the total cash flows value the plant at $7.9M.[5] Under this valuation, the $12M offer seems high and that Dixon should not make the investment without the laminate technology. Even if we relax the assumptions and use the lower end WACC in our range of 14.5% and assume that capital expenditures will be the low end of the range at $475k per annum after 1984, the deal at $12M would still be dilutive because the DCF value is still only $8.9M.[6] At the other extreme, assuming a WACC of 18.5% and capital expenditures of $600k per annum, the plant is only worth $7.5M. While the model above does not account for the return of working capital at the end of year in 1989, the discounted value of this working capital is only worth about $650k and therefore does not substantially alter the analysis. Given this analysis, the deal is dilutive and Dixon should not make the investment. 2) Evaluate the marginal impact of the laminate technology (i.e. net present value of the costs savings and expenses assuming that without laminate, graphite costs go up 5% per year after 1984 and power costs rise 12% after 1984). The laminate technology requires an upfront capital expenditure of $2.25M that can be straight line depreciated over 10 years. This laminate will eliminate graphite costs completely and reduce power costs by 15 20%. Assuming the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. How Cram Changed My Life Essay What happened next changed his life. The first thing Cram noticed, true to himself, was the architecture. Overall, he was unimpressed with the style, which he never came to appreciate. For about thirty minutes, Cram battled boredom, until the service started. He described the experience in his own words: Then, in their white and gold vestments, the sacred ministers came silently to the high altar, attended by crucifers, thurifers and acolytes, and stood silently waiting. Suddenly came the bells striking the hour of midnight, and with the last clang the great organs and the choir burst into a melodious thunder of sound; the incense rose in clouds, filling the church with a veil of pale smoke; and the Mass proceeded to its climax with the offering of the Holy Sacrifice of the Body and Blood of Christ. I did not understand all of this with my mind, but I understood. After a life growing up in the home of a pastor, studying art, and designing architecture, Cram s accidental preparation enabled him to understand the experience in a way no one else ... In structuring the building, Cram and his associates intentionally shifted theology to the forefront by moving the organ. One architecture magazine pointed out that in Protestant churches at that time, the organ often overshadowed both the pulpit and the communion table, but in Sage Memorial, the organ and choir had been relegated to the sides, highlighting the pulpit and table. At the dedication, a memorial address proclaimed that the very erection of such a building as this for His glory is a witness to a believer s sense of his unrivaled greatness and majesty. Yet, the people who decide who gets to be president are the electoral college. The electoral college consists people who represent about 500,000 people in their state. Some states don t have much of a population so it was guaranteed that each state will get at least three electoral votes. Two being the senators each state has and one being a representative in the House of Representatives. This was to make sure every state has a fair and equal representation in voting for the president. The whole electoral system isn t fair. Americans are voting for a president, as they should, but their vote doesn t count. The citizen s vote is called the popular vote and basically does nothing because the vote that does matter is the electoral vote. The electoral should be abolished because it is undemocratic, smaller states are being over represented, and it also hurts third parties. One of the reasons that we should abolish the electoral college is because it undemocratic. Our country claims that we are democratic and one of our core ideologies is power to the people. And yet the people who are living under this government have no say in who s the next leader of the United States? The power is in the electoral college and one of the main actions that goes into determining the best candidate is the winner take all in which the candidate that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although psoriasis has been previously thought to be a disease solely affecting primarily the skin and the joints, our understanding of the comorbidities that may be associated with this disease has grown significantly. Recent evidence has even suggested an increased over all risk of mortality in patients with severe psoriasis (Gelfand JM et al., 2007). (2008), supported previous reports of an association between psoriasis and diabetes mellitus. The age adjusted proportion of diabetes was found to be significantly higher in psoriasis patients as compared to the control group. A possible explanation for the association between psoriasis and diabetes is the presence of chronic inflammation that occurs due to secretion of TNF a and other proinflammatory cytokines such as IL 1 and IL 6, which precipitate both psoriasis and diabetes. 2) Non Alcoholic Fat Liver Disease (NAFLD) Prevalence of NAFLD in patients with psoriasis ran¬ges from 17 60% and is even greater in patients with severe psoriasis and PsA ( Miele et al., 2009) .Similarly, Gisondi et al. speculated that NAFLD may contribute to the seve rity of psoriasis through the release of inflammatory mediators from the liver, including reactive oxygen species, CRP and IL 6, which also act as mediators of atherogenesis (Gisondi et al., 2009),Moreover, patients with psoriasis and NAFLD have higher risk of developing non alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and cirrhosis than patients with NAFLD without psoriasis (Wenk et al., 2009). What challenges did they face after their emancipation? This is a subject of continued interest. History is rife with records of decades of untold torture and harrowing experiences. African American slaves suffered at the hands of their captors and masters. They were denied all natural rights as human beings and forced to live like animals. The Declaration of Emancipation was monumental, and came with the renewed sense of hope that life after their emancipation would become significantly better. Being free, the former slaves envisaged being able to live with a sense of purpose and pride in a land ripe with a cornucopia of opportunities waiting to be capitalized on. Spirits were high and celebration took place as ideas and fantasies of a rich lifestyle with a good standard of living were being formulated.[1] For some ex slaves, their dreams became somewhat of a reality as their fight for survival during slavery helped them develop the wits needed to succeed in their new found world. Unfortunately, there were many tragic disappointments, as nearly all the slaves that were emancipated were forced to return back to their old masters after leaving the plantations, starving and diseased.[2] Many were not able to survive on their own. Little do these young minds know that the scariest part of sex education is the lack of accurate and detailed information. A shortage of information on their own bodies can have grim effects on their sexuality later in life. Inadequate sex education for adolescents has consequently set the foundation for an orgasm inequality, favoring men over women. The nation s incomplete standards for sex education has consistently failed young women in teaching them enough about their own anatomies. An interview has been conducted with an 18 year old cisgendered woman named Carly. The purpose was to study how well an average young woman knows herself and her own sexuality. Carly completed sex education in the state of Wisconsin. Currently in the united states there are no federal laws that dictate a uniform sexual health education curriculum (Koepsel 2016). How, and what is taught is left to each of the individual states (Koepsel 2016). As a result, a range of information is being taught to Americans, but it may or not be favorable to the student s well being. It seems rather controversial that local governments, which students can rarely participate in, choose the fate of their sexual health education. It is an unfair system that ultimately allows only those who have had extensive and medically accurate education a future in sexual well being. Carly explained ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Second, manuscripts that were found and translated has shown people today how the people back in the bible lived and worked. Last but not least, archeology has shown where major events, like battles, have gone on and during what year, they happened. Excavations have provided some useful information about daily life in ancient Israel during Judges, including the land, climate and people. How can one know what something tastes like if they have never tasted it? For example, would someone know that an apple is red if they have never actually have seen one. Someone can tell you an apple is red, but, if you never have seen one, can you really be sure? Empiricists use three anchor points in which they derive their opinions from. The first of these points is; the only source of genuine knowledge is sense experience. An easier way to understand this is to compare the mind to a clean sponge. The second epistemological question is; does reason provide us with knowledge of the world independently of experience? John Locke says the answer to this question is no. He uses arguments discussed in the third anchor point of empiricism to support this idea. Locke does not believe that reason alone can provide knowledge because we do not possess innate knowledge that we are not aware of. To best describe this Locke proposes this model: Suppose the mind to be, as we say, white paper, void of all characters, without any ideas; how comes it to be furnished? When man has painted on it with endless variety, how does it have all the materials of reason and knowledge to this question I answer, in one word, from experience. In that all our knowledge is founded, and from that, it ultimately drives itself (p94). Therefore, without these experiences Locke believes that we would not possess the concept of reason and because of that reason alone cannot provide us knowledge of the world. Berkeley s answer to the second question is no as well. He believed that it was only through experience and not reason that we have any knowledge of reality. Since our experiences differ from each individual, reality too will differ for each individual. These ideas as he calls them are the concrete contents of our minds. In the novel Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl , Harriot Jacob chronically writes about her personal struggles and sufferings and that of her families throughout the better portion of her life from childhood to adulthood. Throughout this revealing story, this brave and courageous woman opens my eyes on the extent of the extreme hardships, unfairness, and cruelty that many slaves have faced and lived through every day and every hour with just the hope and faith in God to get them ... The women however, work all day and are called upon the master and mistress s every request even during the night, away from their own families. Most mistresses have women as their child s nurses through the early periods of birth so that the mistress is not bothered in her sleep by the baby. These women were to be found sleeping on the floor at the entry of their owners bedroom, ready to be awakened if the child woke up. One person that I recalled reading that had this unfortunate position was Jacob s aunt. While in the pregnancy of her own kids, she was required to resume her place on the entry floor, because Mrs. Flint s babe needed her attentions. (Jacobs, pg. 217). It shows to show that female slaves own needs was not even thought of at all and was shown no respect. They were treated like animals without even a proper bed to sleep on while their owners slept peacefully away, undisturbed. Every day throughout the country, slaves live through the fear that their loves one will be ripped apart from them, sold off to other states and never to be seen again. And in most cases, this happens. That is one of the most difficult hardship many African slaves face because since they are just property with no rights, they have no say in this and can t stop it. Main Project Details Probably the single best project that describes my internship is the data logging project. This was a project that I was given almost a month after I started but also lasted until almost the end of my internship. This was also one of the largest projects I worked on that I can discuss in enough detail to explain why it describes my internship. It is when there is repetitive malfunction of the same system under the same conditions that people begin to ask the question. (Birch, et. al. 21) Who is at fault? Is it the production line error? Because of such a rush in development, as well as such a strict limitation in weigh and cost, the technology was substantially modified and the sequence of the events in the development cycle was altered as well. As per Dowie, in the normal development cycle of 43 months, the tooling which takes longest time to accomplish of about 18 months, takes place when all other processes like design, styling, product planning, advanced engineering, etc. have been finalized and approved. (3) Since there were only 25 month allocated to come with a model of Ford Pinto, tooling was going in parallel with the product development. Another important aspect, as Dowie points out, was competition over trunk space which dictated engineers to avoid designing a gas tank that would substantially reduce the trunk space. Therefore, the designers decided not to use the Ford s patented safe saddle type tank which would be positioned over the rear axle, but place the gas tank between a weak bumper and a rear axle. (4) When crush tests revealed that the weakest part of Ford Pinto was the gas tank that would be punctured by the bolts on the rear axle during the rear impact crash, there was no time to change the tooling. Another obstacle for Ford Pinto s safety was negative position of the General Manager, Lee Iacocca, on importance of the safety. As part of his search for universal keys to the human psyche, Jung also studied and wrote numerous commentaries throughout his career on Eastern religious texts and practices. And while Buddhist mandala visualizations culminated in the existential act of dissolving elaborate self constructions into emptiness, Jung s mandala therapy ultimately culminated in individuation or the personal and conscious realization of the universal Self that lies at the unconscious center of our being. 5 In light of his universal psychologizing of the mandala motif, one must ask just how or why Jung hermeneutically superimposed his psychological balancing act of conscious and unconscious elements over the mandala motif, when ... In my opinion, the respective purposes of these different contemplative practices have been to cultivate a sense of mental calmness while taking a break from our busy lives, identify the importance of fully embracing the present moment, and expose us to different viewpoints and reactions regarding certain topics, ultimately forcing us to think critically and respond constructively to them. Financial Statements Of American Heart Association The financial statements of American Heart Association convey valuable information to outside users about the organization and how it utilizes financial resources. The objective of this essay is to identify five things that can be learned about an organization from their financial statements. The first thing that can be learned about every nonprofit comes from reviewing the Statement of Activities and the following Statement of Functional Expenses. These statements describe a broad categorization of the different program related services provided and the supporting services needed to run those programs. Expenses related to these programs are defined as those directly relating to the organization s mission or purpose. For AHA, their programs include research, public health education, professional education and training, and community services. Supporting services are those that do not directly relate to the mission or purpose of the organization, and therefore can be further split into services required to generate future contributions and services to run the administrative side of the organization. The Statement of Functional Expenses provides a breakdown of natural expenses (salaries, rent, professional fees, etc.) by the different program and supporting services. But, is it true that if a baby is born preterm then they are destined to be autistic? In order to answer that question, we must first be educated on preterm infants as well as the disorder of Autism. Not many people are educated on what Autism is and even less are educated on the health and well being of premature babies. The purpose for this research is to shed some light on both autism and premature birth as well as justify if there is any connection between preterm birth and autism. When one thinks of a baby born prematurely many imagine a tiny one pound baby barely able to live even with all the ventilators and machines hooked up to it. They imagine a baby that will be under weight and unable to leave the hospital for many months to come. Few will know the risk factors that come along with being preterm, and even less will know that preterm babies are just as capable of living healthy and normal lives. More than one in five of Scotland s children are living in poverty. In this essay I will consider why social class is an ongoing problem, its influence on wellbeing and achievement, and propose ways in which we can attempt to combat these issues. This will be accomplished with reference to concepts, theories and the scenarios detailed in appendix A, B and C. According to Bourdieu s highly influential theory of cultural reproduction, children from middle class families are more advantaged in gaining qualifications due to their possession of cultural capital (Lamont Lareau, 2011). Cultural capital can be defined as a deeply ingrained knowledge of society s high culture and taste, behaviours, linguistic cues and the education system. Cultural reproduction refers to the transmission of these aforementioned cultural values and norms between the generations. This can only be produced by family upbringing in the home (Bourdieu Passeron, 1990). This transition enormously influences children s success in school and later in life (Sullivan, 2001). However the distribution of cultural capital is severely inefficient (Bourdieu and Passeron, 1977). Examples of this happening are when political prisoners are released from prison and wearing black (Satrapi 47), when Marjane s mother has been verbally tormented by fundamentalists (Satrapi 74), and finally when Siamak s sister was killed and found in the street and is drawn in black (Satrapi 66). Sometimes Marjane is shown in black. This occurs when her religious views are seeping through. She claims she wants to be the next prophet. Since this is a religious view that would support the Shah and the fundamentalist side, Marjane is shown in black (Satrapi 6). After Marjane learns about the King and God in school, she goes home to her parents and tells them how much she loves the King because he was chosen by God. She is of course wearing black in this panel because it is supporting the fundamentalist side of the revolution (Satrapi 19). The Shah believes in eliminating social classes and having everyone look the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Communication In Autistic Children The definition as well as the symptoms of autism have been mentioned in the previous part of the research proposal. Symptoms of autism will usually start showing when a child is around 18months (Hourigan Hourigan, 2009:40). The main problem concerning autism that this literature study will focus on is the delay and defect with regards to communication in the autistic child with specific reference to the classroom situation. Extensive studies have been done on the autistic spectrum disorder. These children will be introverted and usually live their lives in an isolated world. They struggle with many different aspects of everyday life which causes them to retreat into their comfort zone of seclusion. Educators and teachers should strive to understand this comfort zone in order to be able to relate and communicate effectively with these children. Autistic children struggle to relate with one another, communications are extremely difficult. Different strategies should be implemented to encourage and help autistic learners to communicate more effectively with one another and with their teachers to facilitate teaching and learning in the classroom. ... Autistic children perform exceptionally well in areas of music when compared to the average healthy child. Armstrong (2010) further states that music also seems to have an effect on the ability of people with autism to memorise nonvisual material . Clearly, autistic children have a strong affinity towards music. The fact that children with autism display special interest and ability in music has led to the question whether music can t play a role in the communicative approach with these ... Vehicle quality: In this department there are series of test involved to check the vehicle quality and 100% of the units are sent through this process. Sophisticated features such as adaptive cruise control, line spot monitoring, forward collusion warning and lane change monitoring systems are adjusted and verified first. Then, the unit receives a static wheel alignment and the headlights are adjusted. The unit is driven on a dynamometer which checks engine and transmission functions, cruise control and the anti lock braking system. After that, the unit is sent through a shower testing booth to check for water leaks and driven on a test tracks, testing various roads surfaces. Additional examinations will take place to confirm quality before the vehicle is transported to the dealership. Poka yoke and Kaizen are the lean tools used in this department. Here all the items are examined properly before sending the car to the market for the purchase. This means that all items will be properly tested for error proofing. Since Poka yoke helps in mistake proofing and avoiding all the error, I believe this tool has been executed successfully in this department. The three interesting points of the plant ... • 47. Summary Of The Omnivore s Dilemma By Michael Pollan In the second section of Michael Pollan s book, The Omnivore s Dilemma, pastoral grass and organic foods are the main focus and many agree that grass is a far better choice for animals that graze. By switching a cows diet back to normal food, will impact the market of food prices because the supply would not be able to keep up with the demand, thus making the food market a disaster, or at least that s what I picture when I think of the outcome. The demand for beef now is so great that these cattle are being slaughtered at roughly 12 months, that s not even half of the total life span they re supposed to live. A grass fed cow takes about 4 5 years to be ready for some great steaks, but thanks to our wonder crop, corn , we can slice that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yes, the government owns the word organic and they have the power to decide what the term actually means, for example the organic food that is produced in these industrial organic farms are subject to the same repugnant conditions all other conventional farms are subject to. As a father, I can recall making decisions on purchasing the more expensive food item because it was right next to the bad one and the good one had on the label that it was organically made so I never bothered to read the label. If I would ve stopped and read the labels, I would ve discovered that the good decision that I had made for the health of my family was actually just as bad as the food we are trying to stay away from. Even the stores such as Trader Joes and Whole Foods are guilty of having tainted food in their aisles. Growing up with a mother that is conscious of her health, these healthy food markets are a shock to find out they are killing us too. In an article by Darla Cameron and Peter Whoriskey, Who is behind organic brands, they say that Consumers may not know that these 92 organic food brands are owned by some of the nation s largest food processors. , the largest food processors are in deep with government that there is not enough regulations to ...
