Novel and Black Africans
Write a critical analysis of Aphra Behn novella Oroonoko, paying special attention to the
representation of black Africans. What makes Oroonoko a positive character? Is he superior or inferior
to the whites in the novella? Oroonoko a Royal slave or a monstrous Negro I have a dream that my
four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin
but by the content of their character. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Eighteenth Century period) is Aphra Behn and her novella Oroonoko or the Royal slave. Although it is

Supreme Court Cases on Separation of Church and State Clauses
The United States of America was founded on the basis of religious freedom. Judgment on the legality
of the Separation of Church and State should not be based on one s religion. The phrase Separation of
church and state sometimes known as the wall of separation between church and state, is a phrase used
by Thomas Jefferson in understanding the two clauses of the First Amendment to the Constitution of
the United States: the Establishment Clause and the Free Exercise Clause. The Establishment Clause
is prohibits the government fro making any laws dealing with religion. As the second clause, The Free
Exercise Clause goes along with the Establishment clause stating that Congress cannot make any law
pertaining to religion or a law that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The American education system is one of the main places of controversy for the Separation of Church
and State. Almost every child in the United States attends some type of school, many of them public
systems. In such a school setting, these children are often exposed to the beliefs of their teachers and
administrators, as well as their own classmates. In Greece, New York, ever since 1999, the town board
has begun their monthly gatherings with prayer. Rev. Lou Sirianni begins his gathering by stating: Be
thou present, O God of wisdom, and direct the councils of this honorable assembly, the prayer ended,
All this we ask in the name and through the merits of Jesus Christ, Thy Son and our Savior (Wolf 1).
Recently in 2007, two residents who regularly attended board meetings, Susan Galloway and Linda
Stephens, complained that the prayers were promoting more of a Christian community than any other
religion (Masci 3). Although separation of church and state is stated briefly in the First Amendment,
these two ladies had the right to go after the town for not allowing a freedom of religion and for most
importantly throwing religion into a government owned school function. The case was brought to the
Supreme Court in 2007 and is still under debate, with a result hopefully by the end of June 2014. The
question is whether or not this prayer is allowed at a school function. Not everyone is willing to put

Symbols In Cyrano De Bergerac
In Cyrano de Bergerac, written by Edmond Rostand and directed by Jean Paul Rappeneau, many
symbols can be found that give new meaning to the story. For instance, Cyrano s nose, Christian s
blood including Cyrano s tears and letters are three of the many symbols used. Cyrano de Bergerac is
a story set in France about an ugly musketeer trying to win a woman s heart by giving his written
letters to another man in love with the same woman.
Cyrano constantly praises his nose and mocks it, but it actually represents his insecurities and acts as a
barrier in attaining Roxane s love. Cyrano: A great nose is the banner of a great man, a generous heart,
a towering spirit, an expansive soul such as I unmistakably am. (Cyrano de Bergerac, Act I) ... Show

By giving Cyrano a huge nose, this story teaches people that they shouldn t always look on the
outside, for sometimes looks are deceiving. Christian was good looking, but he wasn t a man of words,
and he needed Cyrano s help to woo Roxane. Since Cyrano relied on words too much, he didn t know
how to live out of his poetry. In the end, for deceiving Roxane, both men payed dearly. These
particular symbols demonstrate how something as simple as one s looks get in the way of loving.
Cyrano is always dreading his nose instead of focusing on his love for Roxane, and he let his

I Hate Crime Essay
LGBT stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender. Most recently the community added on QI to
represent those who identify as queer and intersex individuals.
The first hate crime acts date back to 1969 when police raided the gay bar Stonewall Inn in New York
City. This led to riots conducted by the LGBT community. The police brutality did not stop there. A
little less than a year later a gay man, Howard Efland, checked into a Los Angeles hotel under a made
up name was beat up by the Los Angeles Police Department (Faderman Timmons, 2006).
One of the most famous acts occurred on November 27, 1978. Harvey Milk, an openly gay San
Francisco city supervisor and Mayor George Moscone (who was not a gay man) were assassinated by
a political rival, Dan White, at San Francisco City Hall. Milk was the first openly gay person to be
elected to public office in California. Deep into his office term he became an activist for the gay
community, passing many gay rights ordinance for the city. He was an icon and a role model in the
LGBTQI community before his untimely death (Shilts, 2008).

Savagery In Lord Of The Flies Essay
A quotation by Xun Zi states, Human nature is evil, and goodness is caused by intentional activity.
The evil and savagery of human nature thrives in William Golding s allegory, The Lord of the Flies,
emerging through the devolving state of the boys minds. Golding implies throughout the novel that
humanity naturally reverts to cruelty and savagery. Two characters, however, fail to follow the rest of
the group toward evil since they embody the moral goodness and intellectual aspects of a civilization.
Their deaths bring the downfall of all order on the island. Through the deaths of Simon and Piggy,
Golding implies how the inherent evil of human nature drowns out the good in a society like it did for
the anti intellectual Khmer Rouge and the murder of Emil Grunzweig. ... Show more content on

Golding employs the direct diction, The beast stumbled into the horseshoe... Simon was crying out...
Kill the beast... (168) to imply the blind savagery that overtakes the boys as they mistake Simon for
the beast. The phrase kill the beast chanted by the mob suggests their fear and adrenaline fuel the
urgent desire for blood. This becomes significant as the reader realizes that the boys act on behalf of
the evil nature of the beast inside of them. The author affirms that all of the boys felt the effects of the
beast within them through Ralph s statement, I wasn t scared... I was I don t know what I was (173).
This quotations displays Ralph s uncertainty and confusion over Simon s death. This becomes
significant as the boys lose their hold on sanity once anchored through Simon. Although Simon s
death allows the group to lose hold of their goodness, Piggy s death causes all order to cease on the

Juvenile Neutralization
Do juveniles use justifications and rationalizations to neutralize their behavior? A number of studies
do, in fact, find that young people do seek justification before engaging in delinquent behavior (Siegel
and Welsh, 2015). But Ronald Akers (1997) asserts that adherence to neutralizing attitudes has been
found to be moderately related to delinquent and criminal behavior. Akers suggests that while there is
support for the theory it may be because neutralization attitudes dispose individuals to violating the
law instead of offering rationalizations for committing delinquent acts. According to Tibbetts and
Hemmens (2010), studies that have attempted to empirically test neutralization theory tend to yield
inconsistent results. The major

A Synagogue Experience Essay
I have always been interested in learning about religion in conjunction with experiencing it. Growing
up I was raised in a Christian home and learned very little about any other religion including other
monotheistic religion. Judaism is the religion that I knew the least about and decided that the best
possible way for me to learn more was to experience it. I had only ever heard of Judaism in a comical
or historical way. I chose to go to a Synagogue to further my knowledge and experience Judaism first
hand.
I called ahead to Temple Sinai in Denver and arranged a time to visit with Rabbi Richard Rheins. It
just so happened that a class from Red Rocks was also planning a visit and I was encouraged to join
them as well. I was able to attend a special service on November 11th, Veterans Day. This service was
very different than what I had expected. It was a Shabbat service that included a naming, an honoring
of veterans, as well as two bat mitzvah announcements. I had to dress in business casual attire and
received snacks and drinks at the end called nosh. I had heard previously that during a Shabbat service
the Torah was brought out and during the service that I had attended, it was not.

PGC Vs Summum Case Study
When SVC sued the Chairman John Walker II and the members of Texas Department of Motor
Vehicles Board he claimed that the licenses plates were private speech and not government speech and
was violating his First Amendment right. The District Court ruled in favor for the Board, however
when SVC appealed, the Fifth Circuit the ruling was reversed and held SVC s claim that license plates
are private speech an said that the Board engaged in constitutionally forbidden viewpoint
discrimination when it refused to approve SCV s design (Walker v SVC). Then The U.S Supreme
Court held 5 to 4 Texas s specialty license plate designs constitute government speech, and thus Texas

They argued that, The Court s decision passes off private speech as government speech and, in doing
so, establishes a precedent that threatens private speech that government finds displeasing (Alito,
Walker v SCV). The dissenting opinion used an example of a test; if you were to watch cars drive past
you on a highway and look at all of the license plates, you would see license plates that had the name
of a high school, university, sorority, company etc., and you would not think that these sentiments
reflected the State of Texas but people who own the cars (Alito, Walker v SVC). Justice Alito and the
other Justices described the license plates as little billboards where the government has government
speech on it but there is also room for the owner of the car to show their own messages on the
specialty plate. They further contended that the Board of Motor Vehicles of Texas was partaking in
viewpoint discrimination because the State of Texas was not allowing the messages of a private group
to be on the little billboard because some people may find the speech offensive. The minority also
explained that the Pleasant Grove City v Summum case is not a valid argument because of three
factors; The history of public monuments and the Texas license plate program cannot be more
different, The Texas specialty plate program also does not exhibit the selective receptivity

The Brown Burro and Nature Essay
I breathed a sigh of relief finding everything in our camp as we had left it. Time seemed to have stood
still in this part of the world; I felt as though we had been gone for ages when actually it was only
three and a half days. I showered Frog with affection, and gave him the last of our cookies and chips.
That night, Satan and Puss slept with me in my trailer. Frog kept me awake with his constant stomping
and braying. Snow had fallen during our absence. Only patches of thin crust remained at Harry s
camp. The hills beyond were covered with a blanket of mushroom like beauty glistening in the desert
sun, which notwithstanding its angle in the sky, would wreak havoc with the snow before the day was

The two burros stood glaring at one another, and then they pawed the earth, and charged. I heard the
sound of the impact and they arced in the air like colliding locomotives, their loud, echoing blasts
resounding across the canyons, and they bit at one another in a most vicious manner, which resulted in
bloody lacerations about their bodies, then abruptly they stopped their combat and began grazing; and
all was peaceful. The Jennies, close by, some accompanied by nursing yearlings, and older burros,
regarded the two battling males with what appeared to me as casual regard; then the black one trotted
over to the herd, and mounted one of the Jennies; and the entire herd let out a combined burro chant
and charged as one, down the slope in my direction, the coupled pair leading the way! There I stood in
awe, camera with telescope lens dangling at my side. I looked around for a route of escape, or some
kind of protection, and thought of running to my Jeep, but it was too far away, and the slope was
barren of tree or boulder; I was trapped, doomed to be trampled to death by a raging herd of wild
burros. Then suddenly, as if on command, the charging herd split and stormed by me in a thundering
roar of dust and dirt, and disappeared down a draw; and all was silent as though they had not been
there, and what I had experienced but a dream. I sat down on the ground, buried my head in my arms.
An overwhelming sensation of fear gripped me and I

Nursing Philosophy Research Paper
For us to talk about nursing philosophy, I believe that one must first decide what philosophy means to
them. There is not one clear definition of philosophy, but according to the American Heritage
Dictionary of the English language (2000), philosophy is an underlying theory or set of ideas relating
to a particular field of activity or to life as a whole. I believe this definition ties with my nursing
philosophy, because every nurse has different ideas of their own. Therefore, my nursing philosophy is
to provide holistic patient centered care, to deliver compassionate care and to care for my patient with
the best of my ability using all my knowledge, I believe that education plays a significant role in my
philosophy. Continued education gives me more knowledge, which allows me to provide better care
every day. Nurses need to use that knowledge to help those who are unable to help themselves. ...

Each person needs to be treated as an individual, not a room number or any disease. They should
receive care, with disregard to background, beliefs, or sexual orientation. I also believe that as a
patient, she/he has the right to participate in their own care. Whichever goal they have a nurse should
help achieve that goal. Whether the goal is quality of life or dignity of death, a nurse should be there to
advocate for the patient. My perspective on the environment, is that even though nursing focuses on
human beings, we also need to look at the environment in which he/she lives. The community can be a
large community or a small community, but at the end of the day community influence the patients.
Society should be able to trust the healthcare provider to deliver care, at any time. A nurse should

Civil Disobedience Shakes America
The United States of America was founded by rebellious English men, who would not stand for
inequality. As time progressed, the rebellions shifted from wars full of bloodshed to peaceful protest
and civil disobedient. Many people feel that civil disobedience is wrong ways to act on issues. A
greater amount of Americans feel that civil disobedience is the strongest and most effective way to get
change to the issues. I agree that civil disobedience shakes America into making a deliberate change.
Injustice, wrongdoings, and/ or inequality are the root of all acts of civil disobedience. From

Modern Sensibility In The Tempest By William Shakespeare
Many people argue that among the many literary works composed by William Shakespeare the
tempest treats issues that revolve around reconciliation, forgiveness, and faith in the future generation.
Making use of character Prospero, the Author was able to develop the major themes of the play that in
broader context overthrow the Great chain of being and adopt a modern sensibility. To be in a position
of exposing how Shakespeare addresses the mentioned theme, a consideration of a thesis statement
that attitudes and actions of the main characters in play define the implication a play has on society. To
facilitate an extrapolation of the thesis in consideration, I will first explain what is meant by the
modern sensibility. In connection with artistic or social activities, modern sensibility refers to an
understanding or the ability to decide what is useful and valuable. In a social setting application,
modern sensibility is a way of understanding things to the social ideals of an earlier age. Making use
of character Prospero, the author shows how the ideologies of an individual assume a different
direction after suffering some of the transformation in the society. As the play kicks off, Prospero s
conduct displays a contradiction from the basic tenets of Christian forgiveness. Depending on his good
fortune, the character seizes the opportunity to take vengeance of his enemy. The passage that presents
the central focus of the book is one that Prospero hopes that his plan to

Summer is officially in swing and there s no better time to enjoy an ice cold brew out on the water, at
the beach, or on your front porch as the sun s going down. But when the weather is just too nice to
pass up that second or third drink, craft beer aficionados are in for a long day and that s a good thing!
The popularity of session beers, beers with full flavor and hop but less alcohol content, is on the rise
and Oskar Blues Brewing Company has come out with what they call the most crushable beer yet.
Released for national distribution back in February, the Pinner Throwback IPA has an ABV (alcohol
by volume) of just 4.9% and 35 IBU (international bittering units).
The term session beers actually dates back to the World War I era when British legislation limited pub
hours to one lunchtime and one dinner time session. During this time rationing put a limit on the
amount of alcohol used in brewing, creating lower ABV levels in the beers consumed during these
sessions. According to NPR s Doug Tribou it has also been argued that sessions just referred to longer
stays at the pub. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Dying Industry of Brick Production in Norway
A condensed history about the production of Tegle stein in Norway. From the first introduction of
fired clay bricks by monks in the early twelfth century. To what affects the Black Death had on
production and innovation leading into the 17th century. The 1850 s became the golden time for brick
production in Norway with new innovations and technics brought in from Germany. As with all
golden times there always is a down turn. The end of the Second World War signaled the start of this
down turn, with a slow attrition of the brickworks one by one over 90% were closed by 1970. The
competition of cement, wood and other building products gave way to only one factory surviving and
producing bricks and specialty products of Tegle in Norway today.

Norwegian brick manufacturing and related history should pay homage to the thousands of years of
brick building and production from China to the Middle East, eventually these technics arrived and

Some of the oldest known Tegleproduction brick production was found in I Tell Aswad, Syria where

Waugh considered the opinion of his neighbor regarding the box as the vision of a thing which is not
present at all. In the same way, Gilbert thinks that BBC correspondent angel (object of many of his
paranoid fantasies) is utilizing The Box so as to send various voices to his office or cabin present on
the ship as per the waugh s work. These voices are just the imagination of Gilbert. Because, the voices
get stopped when he avoids to take drugs and returns from the ship to England. Thus, the voices
coming to his office are completely imaginary.
The Box has some religious significance in.regards with the old testament, The box is the ark of the

These small boxes containing the scrolls on which words of God are written is used by the Orthodox

Out of state college tuition is immensely more expensive than in state tuition. Besides where you go, it

Persuasive Essay On Animal Farms
Each day, millions of Americans flock to grocery stores, picking out the food they plan to eat, often
placing a beef product in their shopping cart. Most people set it down in their shopping cart and keep
going along their day, not even thinking about how the animal it came from lived its life, was killed,
and how the meat was packed. However, there are many people who oppose the meat industry s
execution of these processes, regardless of it being very efficient and inexpensive. There have been
many inside investigations attempting to expose the meat industry, making it known to the public how
poorly these animals, predominantly cows, are treated, in order to make a new law that would change
the methods used. These exploitations have been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cattle, when down, are branded as unfit for humans to eat by the federal government. These cows are
three times likelier to harbor a potentially deadly strain of E. coli, and at higher risk of carrying
salmonella bacteria and transmitting bovine spongiform encephalopathy, or mad cow disease, as it is
quaintly known (Solotaroff). This is mainly due to the fact that the floors are uncleaned, and covered
with the urine and feces of cows and other farm animals that may pass by that area. Farmers will try
their hardest to bring a downed cow up, even if it may be considered unsuitable for human

The Environmental Protection Agency ( Usda Crops ( Gm Crops )
Humans have been genetically modifying crops (GM crops) since the beginning of agriculture. From
domesticating wild grasses, which would become the modern staple grains of today, to breeding the
best seeds of fruit in order to produce a larger and sweeter yield. Dr. Nina V. Fedoroff, a biology
professor and ex science/technology advisor to the Secretary of State, does not deny the benefits of
GM crops in her article Engineering Food for All . Fedoroff provides credible and convincing
evidence for easing current strict federal regulation of GM crops. According to Fedoroff, the declining
supply of food due to global warming and an increasing population will produce a high demand for
sustenance in the coming years (par. 1). In order to meet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

loosen the rains on the development of genetically modified crops especially if no evidence of harm
exists (Fedoroff, par. 13 14). Fedoroff effectively foreshadows to her topic and stance with the title of
her article Engineering Food for All. The word Engineering may relate to a scientific term, and the
addition of Food for All prepares the reader to piece together science with food in order to benefit the
greater population. Dr. Nina V. Fedoroff, starts out by displaying her political background by alluding
to President Obama s initiative to stimulate innovation by eliminating unnecessary regulation, and her
disagreement with the EPA choking off innovation with more GM crop regulation (par. 2). Fedoroff
then shows her biological knowledge throughout the article by providing the reader with brief, but
effective scientific information about the benefits of genetically modifying crops. For example
Fedoroff states, The induction of mutations in plants...improve yields [of crops] (par. 3). Fedoroff
structures her article by first providing the supporting facts, and then finishes with her two thesis
arguments. The first argues for federal agencies to loosen regulation on the development of genetically
modified crops, and to only worry about the negative side effects if any from

The Liberation Of Women During The 18th And The 19th Century
Uprising of Women in Psychology Sydney Alan Brackin University of Montevallo Abstract This paper
shows the liberation of women in the 18th and the 19th Century, showing the different waves of
feminist in psychology. It s important to remember the gradual changes and actions displayed. I
choose to finalize this paper with Christine Ladd Franklin. She was the first women to complete the
necessary requirements for a PhD. Her contributions to mathematics and psychology paved the way
for other women to succeed. Uprising of Women in Psychology Women as Other Throughout history
women have not been given proper recognition for their insight in the field of psychology. They were
simply labeled as Other. Simone de Beauvoir, philosopher examines the concepts of woman and in
relation to the larger concepts of humanity. She concludes that women s status is not simply a matter
of definition, but a fundamental way of thinking that has political consequences. What is a Woman?
This question may seem to be rudimentary, but when thought about women are the foundation for life.
Women are more than their uterus, or an imperfect man. It was believed that women were made from
man s image, Adam and Eve. This alone gives rise to men and lessens women as an individual. Man
cannot think of himself without the other. Without women there would be no man. In the most
primitive societies there is duality between the self and the other. These were not

Irony In Shakespeare s Much Ado About Nothing

in the audience is a group who has just walked in from the bustle of the big city. Naturally, the stress
of daily life hangs like a tangible fog, and peoples spirits rise in hope to forget about their own
problems and laugh their worry away. A grumpy, fat, balding, middle aged man saunters on stage and
makes some witty remark about how life sucks. In many ways he is right, everyone laughs, people
relate to his struggles. Life is hard, and when flaws get exaggerated, it s hilarious. This is what
Shakespeare does in his comedy Much Ado About Nothing, by making extreme simplifications and

Where is the line defining how much trust you should have in another persons word? In the case of
Beatrice and Benedict, their trust in the admonition of their peers led them to be manipulated and their
thoughts were tainted. However, their deception turned out to catalyst true love. As soon as their love
virus spread, the two witty, independent individuals completely dismissed the disdain that they so
grudgingly held for one another. This satiric event exposes the idea that quite possibly one should
spend a bit more time processing and questioning information handed to them. Beatrice and Benedict
fell into the influence of the conspirators and all previous ideas of one another dissipated. In my
personal opinion, I would have a bit more trouble than Beatrice when falling for a man who referred to
her as Lady Disdain and who compared her intellectual, tenacious wit to a horse (pg. 12). So either the
people of Shakespeare s time didn t hold grudges, or he is making fun of people who will give up all
prior knowledge in the interest of love. (It s the second part, if you were confused.) The desperate will
that all humans have for love is powerful, and Shakespeare is criticizing the ease that people have at

Case Study Of Pharmaceutical Society Of Great Britain V...
Case note

Institution
Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain v Boots cash chemist (Southern) Ltd was a Court of Appeal
decision on the nature of an offer. The court held that a display of an item in a store with a price tag is
not enough to constitute an offer. Such a display would be a mere invitation to treat.
Boots implemented a new method for customers to buy medicine. As opposed to earlier practices
where medicines were stored behind a counter and an assistant would get what the customer wanted,
the company allowed customers to pick drugs off the shelves and pay for them at the till. The
Pharmaceutical Society objected to this practice and contended that Boots was in breach of s 18(1) of
the Pharmacy and Poisons Act 1933. The Act required pharmacist to supervise the sale of some
products listed on the Acts schedule of poisons.
The Society s argument was that the display of products was an offer, which was accepted when the
customer selected and placed the products into the shopping basket. Because a pharmacist did not
supervise this process, Boots was in breach of the Act. Boots argument was that the sale was effected
at the till and was supervised in accordance with the Act. The lower court had found that the method
used by Boots was not in contravention of the Act. Pharmaceutical Society appealed the decision.
The question before the court was the stage of the purchase where the offer was accepted. The court
also inquired into whether a

The Age Of Industrialization And Imperialism
Catastrophe stuck in the year 1914 with the assassination of the Austrian archduke Francis Ferdinand.
For the next four years the cataclysm of the First World War followed. Many nations, superior in their
own being, were eager to join the war thinking it would only last for a few months and end by
Christmas. This was a chance for nations to assert their superiority and leadership; however, a harsh
realization was soon to follow. The assassination, meager as it might be compared to the whole war,
triggered the beginning of the war. Many nation states found themselves polarized on the tangled
issues involving nationalism, alliances, and militarization and the development of new technology and
warfare at the beginning of the four year long ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This nationalist reaction came out of new independence from Austria, Hungary, and the Ottoman
Empire and the newly freed Serbia, from the Ottoman Turks, was the proclaimed leader of a united
Slavic nationalism. After the assassination, an ally to Austria, Kaiser Wilhelm and Francis Joseph,
nephew to archduke Francis Ferdinand, call for retribution and reprisal against Serbia. Francis Joseph
s military chief of staff expressed concerns for Austria and other European allies in a statement saying
Austria Hungary must draw the sword against Serbia...It is not a question of a knightly duel with poor
little Serbia, as she likes to call herself, not of punishment for the assassination. It is much more the
highly practical importance of the prestige of a Great Power...The Monarchy has been seized by the
throat, and has to choose between allowing itself to be strangled and making a last effort to prevent its
destruction. Alliances then served their function. Relying back on the Triple Alliance (Germany,
Austria, and Italy), Germany and Kaiser Wilhelm begin to back Austria and her interest against Serbia.
Serbia s ally, Russia, is backed by the Triple Entente (Russia, France, and Great Britain). What could
have been a small localized war where Serbian and Austrian forces battled for their cause turned into a
global event on August 01, 1914 when Germany declared war on Russia. This served as a catalyst for

Erik Erikson s Psychosocial Stages
Erikson s Psychosocial Stages Erik Erikson discussed psychosocial stages, his theory however was
predicated upon Sigmund Freud s theory of psychosexual stages. According to Erikson, the ego
develops as it prosperously resolves crises that are distinctly gregarious in nature. These involve
establishing a sense of confide in others, developing a sense of identity in society, and availing the
next generation prepare for the future. Erikson proposed a lifespan model of developing , taking in
five stages up to the age of 18 old age and three further levels beyond, well into adulthood. Erikson
suggests that there is still plenty of room for continued emergence and development throughout one s
life. Erikson put a great mountain of stress on the adolescent time period , feeling it was a crucial stage
for developing a person s identity. The outcome of this maturation timetable is a wide and integrated
set of life skills and abilities that function together within the autonomous individual. However,
instead of focusing on sexual development (like Freud), he was interested in how children socialize
and how this affects their sense of self. Psychosocial Stages Erikson s (1959) theory of psychosocial
development has eight distinct stages. 1. Trust vs. Mistrust Erikson s first psychosocial crisis occurs
during the first year of life, during this stage the infant is uncertain about the world in which they live.
To resolution these feelings of uncertainty the baby looks towards

The Meaning of Life and Death Essay
The Meaning of Life and Death The abstract idea of life cannot be explained by such simple ideas as
being animated, breathing, or speaking. Ordinary machines in this century can perform all of these
basic functions. The quandary with defining death is not as abstract and elusive as that of life. The
problem of defining life and death has plagued philosophers and the religious bodies for thousands of
years for one reason; each philosophy or religion has tried to define the meaning of life and death
from only their certain perspective. The seemingly appropriate approach to this problem would be to
understand the ideas presented in various philosophies and religions and through this knowledge
create a new definition for each idea of life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The living have not yet been annihilated (otherwise they wouldn t be alive) (Cook). Also, according to
modern philosopher Steven Luper in an interpretation of Epicurus, death is also permanent non
existence , which is brought upon by some act of biological retirement . This applies to both humans
and replicants. Hereinafter, the deaths of humans and replicants should be considered one and the
same. The emphasis on death in Blade Runner can be attributed to many different reasons. One of
these reasons includes the search for a solution to its inevitable arrival. The prime objective of the
replicants in Blade Runner is to discover when they were created. To a human, this is common
knowledge, but the replicants are not given this information freely. Although, in contrast to the human
knowledge of when they were incepted or born, the replicants know the ultimate length of their life.
After Roy finally meets Tyrell, he is asked, What seems to be the problem? Roy answers, predictably,
death. Why is death such a problem to the replicants? The replicants do not actually have a problem
with death; they have a problem with the brevity of their life. This is why the replicants hope that their
creator, the person that gave them the time limit on their life, can extend it. This is similar to the hope
held by most humans of a life after death, but because the replicants know that there is no such life for
them after death,

character s hometown Sunnydale is invaded by demons who call themselves The Gentlemen. The

to The Gentlemen, politicians seem to emerge out of thin air and take control of everything, by doing
things their own way and ignoring what their suppose to do as politicians. The Gentlemen as political

Evolution Should Not Be Taught In Schools Essay
The theory of evolution was created by Charles Darwin. It is the theory that everything was made by
the Big Bang and so, life began. From there, life began to evolve. Charles Darwin also believes that
we humans evolved from homo sapiens, which are apes. Intelligent design and creationism are the
opposite of the theory of evolution. They are the theory that life and everything along with it, was
created by a higher intelligence(Intelligent Design Network). Half of all Americans believe in
creationism, but U.S courts still rule against teaching creationism in school(Adler). How is that fair if
Darwinians are allowed to teach the theory of evolution in school? It goes against many religions and

Women s Rights Of The New Zealand
New Zealand Women have had the completely equal rights with men before the rest of the world since

Theoretically, these rights would be a vague rules as long as it not applied so Women s right in New

  • 2. Novel and Black Africans Write a critical analysis of Aphra Behn novella Oroonoko, paying special attention to the representation of black Africans. What makes Oroonoko a positive character? Is he superior or inferior to the whites in the novella? Oroonoko a Royal slave or a monstrous Negro I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. Martin Luther King, Jr. One of the most significant figures in the rise of the novel in the Restoration period(or The Long Eighteenth Century period) is Aphra Behn and her novella Oroonoko or the Royal slave. Although it is impossible to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the other hand the narrator description of Oroonoko is hyperbolized and even mythologized and he is qualified as being almost white: The most famous statuary cou d not form the figure of a Man more admirably turn d from head to foot. His Face was not of brown rusty Black which most of that nation are, but of perfect Ebony, or polished Jett... His Nose was rising and Roman, instead of African and flat. His Mouth the finest shaped that could be seen; far from those great turn d Lips, which are so natural to the rest of the Negroes....There was no one Grace wanting, that bears the Standard of true Beauty.(6). • 3. Supreme Court Cases on Separation of Church and State Clauses The United States of America was founded on the basis of religious freedom. Judgment on the legality of the Separation of Church and State should not be based on one s religion. The phrase Separation of church and state sometimes known as the wall of separation between church and state, is a phrase used by Thomas Jefferson in understanding the two clauses of the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States: the Establishment Clause and the Free Exercise Clause. The Establishment Clause is prohibits the government fro making any laws dealing with religion. As the second clause, The Free Exercise Clause goes along with the Establishment clause stating that Congress cannot make any law pertaining to religion or a law that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The American education system is one of the main places of controversy for the Separation of Church and State. Almost every child in the United States attends some type of school, many of them public systems. In such a school setting, these children are often exposed to the beliefs of their teachers and administrators, as well as their own classmates. In Greece, New York, ever since 1999, the town board has begun their monthly gatherings with prayer. Rev. Lou Sirianni begins his gathering by stating: Be thou present, O God of wisdom, and direct the councils of this honorable assembly, the prayer ended, All this we ask in the name and through the merits of Jesus Christ, Thy Son and our Savior (Wolf 1). Recently in 2007, two residents who regularly attended board meetings, Susan Galloway and Linda Stephens, complained that the prayers were promoting more of a Christian community than any other religion (Masci 3). Although separation of church and state is stated briefly in the First Amendment, these two ladies had the right to go after the town for not allowing a freedom of religion and for most importantly throwing religion into a government owned school function. The case was brought to the Supreme Court in 2007 and is still under debate, with a result hopefully by the end of June 2014. The question is whether or not this prayer is allowed at a school function. Not everyone is willing to put ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Symbols In Cyrano De Bergerac In Cyrano de Bergerac, written by Edmond Rostand and directed by Jean Paul Rappeneau, many symbols can be found that give new meaning to the story. For instance, Cyrano s nose, Christian s blood including Cyrano s tears and letters are three of the many symbols used. Cyrano de Bergerac is a story set in France about an ugly musketeer trying to win a woman s heart by giving his written letters to another man in love with the same woman. Cyrano constantly praises his nose and mocks it, but it actually represents his insecurities and acts as a barrier in attaining Roxane s love. Cyrano: A great nose is the banner of a great man, a generous heart, a towering spirit, an expansive soul such as I unmistakably am. (Cyrano de Bergerac, Act I) ... Christian was good looking, but he wasn t a man of words, and he needed Cyrano s help to woo Roxane. Since Cyrano relied on words too much, he didn t know how to live out of his poetry. • 5. I Hate Crime Essay LGBT stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender. Most recently the community added on QI to represent those who identify as queer and intersex individuals. The first hate crime acts date back to 1969 when police raided the gay bar Stonewall Inn in New York City. This led to riots conducted by the LGBT community. The police brutality did not stop there. A little less than a year later a gay man, Howard Efland, checked into a Los Angeles hotel under a made up name was beat up by the Los Angeles Police Department (Faderman Timmons, 2006). One of the most famous acts occurred on November 27, 1978. Harvey Milk, an openly gay San Francisco city supervisor and Mayor George Moscone (who was not a gay man) were assassinated by a political rival, Dan White, at San Francisco City Hall. Milk was the first openly gay person to be elected to public office in California. Deep into his office term he became an activist for the gay community, passing many gay rights ordinance for the city. He was an icon and a role model in the LGBTQI community before his untimely death (Shilts, 2008). Unfortunately, the crimes didn t stop there, in fact, they only seemed to worsen. • 7. Savagery In Lord Of The Flies Essay A quotation by Xun Zi states, Human nature is evil, and goodness is caused by intentional activity. The evil and savagery of human nature thrives in William Golding s allegory, The Lord of the Flies, emerging through the devolving state of the boys minds. Golding implies throughout the novel that humanity naturally reverts to cruelty and savagery. Two characters, however, fail to follow the rest of the group toward evil since they embody the moral goodness and intellectual aspects of a civilization. Their deaths bring the downfall of all order on the island. Through the deaths of Simon and Piggy, Golding implies how the inherent evil of human nature drowns out the good in a society like it did for the anti intellectual Khmer Rouge and the murder of Emil Grunzweig. ... Akers suggests that while there is support for the theory it may be because neutralization attitudes dispose individuals to violating the law instead of offering rationalizations for committing delinquent acts. Growing up I was raised in a Christian home and learned very little about any other religion including other monotheistic religion. Judaism is the religion that I knew the least about and decided that the best possible way for me to learn more was to experience it. I had only ever heard of Judaism in a comical or historical way. I chose to go to a Synagogue to further my knowledge and experience Judaism first hand. I called ahead to Temple Sinai in Denver and arranged a time to visit with Rabbi Richard Rheins. It just so happened that a class from Red Rocks was also planning a visit and I was encouraged to join them as well. I was able to attend a special service on November 11th, Veterans Day. There is not one clear definition of philosophy, but according to the American Heritage Dictionary of the English language (2000), philosophy is an underlying theory or set of ideas relating to a particular field of activity or to life as a whole. Modern Sensibility In The Tempest By William Shakespeare Many people argue that among the many literary works composed by William Shakespeare the tempest treats issues that revolve around reconciliation, forgiveness, and faith in the future generation. Making use of character Prospero, the Author was able to develop the major themes of the play that in broader context overthrow the Great chain of being and adopt a modern sensibility. To be in a position of exposing how Shakespeare addresses the mentioned theme, a consideration of a thesis statement that attitudes and actions of the main characters in play define the implication a play has on society. To facilitate an extrapolation of the thesis in consideration, I will first explain what is meant by the modern sensibility. In connection with artistic or social activities, modern sensibility refers to an understanding or the ability to decide what is useful and valuable. In a social setting application, modern sensibility is a way of understanding things to the social ideals of an earlier age. Making use of character Prospero, the author shows how the ideologies of an individual assume a different direction after suffering some of the transformation in the society. As the play kicks off, Prospero s conduct displays a contradiction from the basic tenets of Christian forgiveness. Depending on his good fortune, the character seizes the opportunity to take vengeance of his enemy. The court held that a display of an item in a store with a price tag is not enough to constitute an offer. Such a display would be a mere invitation to treat. Boots implemented a new method for customers to buy medicine. As opposed to earlier practices where medicines were stored behind a counter and an assistant would get what the customer wanted, the company allowed customers to pick drugs off the shelves and pay for them at the till. The Pharmaceutical Society objected to this practice and contended that Boots was in breach of s 18(1) of the Pharmacy and Poisons Act 1933. The Act required pharmacist to supervise the sale of some products listed on the Acts schedule of poisons. The Society s argument was that the display of products was an offer, which was accepted when the customer selected and placed the products into the shopping basket. For the next four years the cataclysm of the First World War followed. Many nations, superior in their own being, were eager to join the war thinking it would only last for a few months and end by Christmas. This was a chance for nations to assert their superiority and leadership; however, a harsh realization was soon to follow. The assassination, meager as it might be compared to the whole war, triggered the beginning of the war. Alliances then served their function. Relying back on the Triple Alliance (Germany, Austria, and Italy), Germany and Kaiser Wilhelm begin to back Austria and her interest against Serbia. Serbia s ally, Russia, is backed by the Triple Entente (Russia, France, and Great Britain). • 29. Erik Erikson s Psychosocial Stages Erikson s Psychosocial Stages Erik Erikson discussed psychosocial stages, his theory however was predicated upon Sigmund Freud s theory of psychosexual stages. According to Erikson, the ego develops as it prosperously resolves crises that are distinctly gregarious in nature. These involve establishing a sense of confide in others, developing a sense of identity in society, and availing the next generation prepare for the future. Erikson proposed a lifespan model of developing , taking in five stages up to the age of 18 old age and three further levels beyond, well into adulthood. Erikson suggests that there is still plenty of room for continued emergence and development throughout one s life. Erikson put a great mountain of stress on the adolescent time period , feeling it was a crucial stage for developing a person s identity. The outcome of this maturation timetable is a wide and integrated set of life skills and abilities that function together within the autonomous individual. However, instead of focusing on sexual development (like Freud), he was interested in how children socialize and how this affects their sense of self. Psychosocial Stages Erikson s (1959) theory of psychosocial development has eight distinct stages. 1. Trust vs. Mistrust Erikson s first psychosocial crisis occurs during the first year of life, during this stage the infant is uncertain about the world in which they live. • 32. The Meaning of Life and Death Essay The Meaning of Life and Death The abstract idea of life cannot be explained by such simple ideas as being animated, breathing, or speaking. Ordinary machines in this century can perform all of these basic functions. The quandary with defining death is not as abstract and elusive as that of life. The problem of defining life and death has plagued philosophers and the religious bodies for thousands of years for one reason; each philosophy or religion has tried to define the meaning of life and death from only their certain perspective. The seemingly appropriate approach to this problem would be to understand the ideas presented in various philosophies and religions and through this knowledge create a new definition for each idea of life ... Also, according to modern philosopher Steven Luper in an interpretation of Epicurus, death is also permanent non existence , which is brought upon by some act of biological retirement . This applies to both humans and replicants. Hereinafter, the deaths of humans and replicants should be considered one and the same. The emphasis on death in Blade Runner can be attributed to many different reasons. One of these reasons includes the search for a solution to its inevitable arrival. The prime objective of the replicants in Blade Runner is to discover when they were created. To a human, this is common knowledge, but the replicants are not given this information freely. Although, in contrast to the human knowledge of when they were incepted or born, the replicants know the ultimate length of their life. After Roy finally meets Tyrell, he is asked, What seems to be the problem? Roy answers, predictably, death. Why is death such a problem to the replicants? The replicants do not actually have a problem with death; they have a problem with the brevity of their life. This is why the replicants hope that their creator, the person that gave them the time limit on their life, can extend it. This is similar to the hope held by most humans of a life after death, but because the replicants know that there is no such life for them after death, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mary has lived in a room all her life where the world seems to be black and white. Mary has the ability to see color she just does not have any color to see as she is only exposed to black and white in her room. Mary learns all the physical facts about color, how human eye sees and interacts with color and how the brain processes the visual stimuli, provided by the textbook she has in her room. From there, life began to evolve. Charles Darwin also believes that we humans evolved from homo sapiens, which are apes. Intelligent design and creationism are the opposite of the theory of evolution. They are the theory that life and everything along with it, was created by a higher intelligence(Intelligent Design Network). Half of all Americans believe in creationism, but U.S courts still rule against teaching creationism in school(Adler). How is that fair if Darwinians are allowed to teach the theory of evolution in school?
