The Character Of Equality 7-2521 In Ayn Rand s Anthem
Would you like to be told what to do and what not to do in life? Well in Ayn Rand s novelette Anthem
the character Equality 7 2521 along with his other brothers don t have the choice. In there society they
do what they have to do no questions ask if questions or anything having to do with the Great Rebirth
then they are to go to the Palace of Corrective Detention. Everyone is to be alike one can t think of
themselves in terms of I known as the Unspeakable Word they must think and speak as if all of them
were a group using terms like we or think they are better than others in there society. The Council of

Could it be true that Equality 7 2521 was put in the House of the Street Sweepers intentionally?! I
think that he could have been put there intentionally because if you think about it why would he be put
in the House of the Sweepers were Equality would not be able to use his gift why did they not put him
in the House of the Scholars were he could gain knowledge and discover new truths? Maybe because
they found Equality 7 2521 a threat he may be able to find something that could change everything the
way they think of the society and themselves. Even though he was put in the House of the Street
Sweepers about 4 years later he had stumbled upon a hole which he followed and had led him to an
underground tunnel. He had gone to the hole everyday since he had discovered it to which he began to
write about and conduct experiments. One day while he was dissecting a frog hanging from a copper
wire Equality 7 2521 was able to find the power of electricity which he called The Box of Glass which
at that time he was exploring in his tunnel

Buerger s Disease
Buerger s disease is an inflammatory disorder affecting small and medium sized arteries with
unknown etiology and strong association with smoking. It is a difficult disease to treat and abstinence
from smoking is must to arrest the progress. Conservative treatments like vasodilators, anti
coagulants, prostaglandin therapy etc. have questionable role. Arterial reconstructive surgery is not
feasible usually. Sympathectomy, though widely used works partially or not at all. Progression of the
disease invariably leads to amputation. Over the years, the methods and devices have evolved and its
indications have been extended to treat fractures and associated complications: nonunion, chronic
osteomyelitis, shortened extremity, joint contracture, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For clinical diagnosis, every patient should have evidence of all of the major criteria and at least one
of the minor criteria. The major criteria should include: Age of Buerger s disease onset of less than 50
years; this might be sooner than the age of reporting to a health care provider. Some patients
experience cold sensitivity or thrombophlebitis migrans some years before the onset of ischemia ;(
The patient should be from a low socioeconomic class or from a stressful situation or should be an
immigrant from a country with social, economic or political crises; Small and medium sized arteries
of the lower limb are involved; involvement of large vessels should be due to hypercoagulable states
or atherosclerotic changes.1,6 Buerger s disease case reports with involvement of large vessels have
not yet confirmed the diagnosis of Buerger s disease; Dependence of symptoms, in particular burning
pain following tobacco usage instead of history of cigarette smoking . Smoking affects the outcome of
many vascular diseases; however, in Buerger s disease, the patient s symptoms, in particular the
burning pain and TM, have a close relationship with tobacco consumption, even with chewing
tobacco. (Bahare Fazeli

Cultural Differences In American Culture
On the topic of culture, ethnocentrism should be mindful as it refer to culturally biased judgement of
an individual s perspective of their own culture is superiors than another (Levines 2001). This is not to
be confused with racism as to be an ethnocentric often relates to how we individuals view another
culture from our own. For example it is considered norm in China for fellow co workers to ask each
other s how much they earned whereas in European country it is considered rude and inappropriate.
Through the discussion in culture forum 1, I have noticed each personal view on the topic culture were
quite varied from one and another. For instance, many individuals posts regarding to culture were
associated with mostly tangible action, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For a long time, houses in remote Indigenous communities have been provided with the standard
housing and planning which do not necessarily suit their cultural and climatic need. This has led to a
socially dysfunctional built environment due to the disregard of cultural and climatic differences of the
Indigenous communities (Lee Morris 2005).
For an example, Indigenous communities have tendency of large and inconsistent of family members
and dwellers living in the same house hold. Consequently overcrowding can be problematic because
of not enough sleeping areas, toilets and bathrooms. Thus, the standard size of bedrooms cannot
accommodate the large amount of people therefore many people sleep in areas that are designed for
sleeping, such as under verandas and living rooms (Fien et al. 2008).
This course has highlighted the importance of professional practice within built environment. The
lecture by Petra Nisi proposed that consultation is important in the process of professionalism.
According to Lee and Morris (2005) stated the current consultation and the limitation from the time
constraint and the use of methodologies are suited for conventional rather than cross cultural. This has
cause housing situation in remote indigenous communities to be dysfunctional in terms of

Example Of Transcendentalism In Peanuts
Peanuts is a comic strip that ran from the 1950 s to the 2000 s. It s focused around a depressed and
meek boy named Charlie Brown. The comics tell the story of him, his friends, and all of their
adventures. While the comic strip ended in the 2000 s the world of Charlie Brown still lives on to this
day. Around 120 years before the world of Charlie Brown, the philosophical movement of
transcendentalism appeared. It emphasized the spirit and one s own individuality. Even though it came
out a significant amount of time in the past, transcendentalism is still apparent in the modern world.
Peanuts is a modern day example of transcendentalism in the way it represents character s own
confidence and free thought. One of the characteristics of transcendentalism is confidence. A character
in Peanuts who is a prime example of confidence is Lucy Van Pelt. For instance, in one of the comics
written by Charles Schulz, when Lucy says that she has a knack for seeing other people s faults, Linus
asks her about her own faults she responds that she has a knack for overlooking them and then when
Charlie Brown says to Lucy, Sometimes you really astound me. I ve never known anyone who was so
consistently crabby! How do you explain that? she answers, Never change a winning game! Lucy is a
very sarcastic character and she stands by the way that she goes about life. She has an amazing
amount of self confidence and she doesn t let anyone else get to her because she believes strongly in
her actions. She s a strong example of confidence in transcendentalism because of how much she
believes in herself and stands by her actions. Also, in A Charlie Brown Christmas the story revolves
around the idea that Charlie Brown doesn t believe that the over commercialized Christmas that they
all celebrate is the real meaning of Christmas. Then when he s asked to go get a big and over the top
Christmas tree for the play, he grabs a small and neglected tree because he sees the potential in it and
he feels like it s his job to give it a home. When all of his friends make fun of him and tell him that he
s stupid he gets depressed, but he doesn t lose his confidence that that isn t what Christmas is all
about. After Linus reads a passage of the bible

Life Experience Essay
Life is full of exciting experiences for us to enjoy. However, these experiences are meant to teach life
lessons that should remain with us. In my 17 years of living, I have had many lessons to be learned
from events I have gone through. One of those lessons sticks out above the rest and it has a humorous
story to go along with it.
The story starts out with the group planning a get together while eating breakfast at Mcdonald s. Ideas
were flowing out of our heads like a river. We could not agree on a plan of action for the longest time.
Finally, it was decided that we should go to Kenzie s house after she said her dad would cook for us. I
was immediately down for that idea because I knew her dad makes the best chicken wings ever. The
rest of the day for me was spent thinking about what to wear that night. Eventually, the time came for
heading over to Kenzie s house. Bailey, another girl in the group, asked me to give her a ride since she
did not have her driver s license. Because of this, we were one of the last ones to make it to Kenzie s.
In the time that we missed the group decided that they wanted to go and toilet paper some of our
friend s houses that lived close to Kenzie. I had never done something like this before. However, the
excitement of doing this and avoid being caught appealed to me. We all piled into the cars and headed
to Wal Mart to buy the toilet paper. We had an interesting event that happened to us while we were in
Wal Mart. The event was when

Genocide In Rwanda Genocide
During the Rwandan genocide, it didn t matter whether or not you have known someone for five years
or fifteen years, in the end, you would be killed. In this time, many people who married Tutsis were
targeted as well due to the fact that they were married or engaged. Even having a relationship even if it
was not exclusive you were targeted for being interested in a Tutsi, who at the time were called
cockroaches. Tutsis were identified by having lighter skin, lighter eyes, and thinner noses. They were
also typically taller and thinner. Yet that doesn t make someone Tutsi or Hutu, yet back then if you had
any of these traits you were considered a Tutsi even if you were really a Hutu. This racial segregation

referring to radio RTLM. She told us that when she was forced to flee she had witnessed the deaths.
That they would pile them like trash, and feel triumphant afterward. I could bear the sight, people
were being killed like animals. As she retells the story of her escape and endless wander she says, As I
was passing through a barrier, I remember telling my husband: The fate of the Tutsi people is to die.
You are Hutu. You must not stay with me any longer. I am going to die, stop following me! We said
goodbye and I said, If god wills, we ll meet each other again... She has not seen nor heard of her

The world has changed a lot in the past decade, the development of new technology and the changing
of health care has improved tremendously. Digital innovation have made it possible nowadays for
consumers to use as a portable devices to access their medical information and able to monitor their

Return To Port Charles
The rumors have been brewing for a while, and it has now been confirmed that Helena Cassadine is
still alive and returning to General Hospital. Today the show went to their Facebook page and shared
the details that Helena is coming back. This is after it was announced a while back that she was dead,
but you know that nobody is ever really dead on a soap opera. Helena left several things to people in
Port Charles, and it really did seem that she was finally dead. Helena is seen in a new preview for
General Hospital, and all that she says in the preview is You know, Port Charles is a very mysterious
place. You never know who s going to come on.
The preview doesn t confirm very much just that Helena Cassadine is coming back to Port Charles
once again. Celeb Dirty Laundry did have a few more details about her return. Everyone knows that
Jason Morgan was headed to Cassadine Island to try and figure out why his son Jake was afraid of
him. He knows that he was the scarecrow, but not exactly what Jake saw him do or how bad it really
was for him while there. Of course, going to Cassadine Island during May sweeps on General Hospital
is going to be more than just a simple trip. It sounds like Helena will be back for the big Nurse s Ball,
which is the perfect time for the drama to heat up in Port Charles. Spencer Cassadine is also supposed
to be in town for the ball. Fans are excited to see the little boy return but hope that he is safe with

Sales invoices are prepared in batches on a daily basis using numbered sales invoices. Sales invoice
numbers are automatically generated by the company s computer system. The accounts receivable
clerk does not have appropriate computer rights to override the computer generated invoice number.
Upon preparing sales invoices, the accounts receivable clerk verifies that the first invoice number of
the batch is consistent with the last invoice number of the previous batch. Inconsistencies or skipped
sales invoice numbers are investigated and resolved before new sales invoices are prepared. The items
shipped are compared to the items billed for proper quantity, price, and other sales order terms.
The accounting department supervisor compares and reconciles a copy of the daily sales invoice batch
report to the daily accounts posting report indicating the individual accounts. The daily account
posting report is prepared and sent by the accounts receivable department. Discrepancies are

The Epic Of Beowulf As An Epic Hero
The whole earth is the tomb of heroic men and their story is not given only on stone over their clay but
abides everywhere without visible symbol woven into the stuff of other men s lives, said Perculus
(PR). You re born, you live a little, and then you die. There is no simpler way to sum up life. Often
times this is done through oral tales, paintings, and various other ways. For those whose lives were
truly something great, something memorable, their stories are transcripted into writings. Whether
these are simple biographies or symbolic fictional works, stories are often based on someone greater
than the writer. These epic heros are protagonists that fulfill their potential of greatness through using

I think they should be done because you ought to do them. In this story Arthur believed that people
should not help others because they are capable of doing so, but rather because it s the right thing to
do. In the interpretation of the classic King Arthur story, Arthur focused primarily on the lack of
humility in the world and how he (along with Merlyn) can fix it. In a more classic take on the King
Arthur story, Le Morte d Arthur offers a better insight on the physical traits that makes one an epic
hero. Upon the failure of a treaty between the Arthur and Mordred, an epic battle took place that
would decide the fate of the Christian both men stood upon. During this battle Arthur bravely led his
men into battle, single handedly defeating dozens of Mordred s knights. To conclude the battle Arthur
fought Mordred one on one, defeating him with a deadly blow to the chest beneath Mordred s shield.
Though Arthur was gravely wounded, he regretted nothing as he knew what he had done would better
future generations of people. Evil had been vanquished and Arthur was truly an epic hero. A hero is
someone who, in spite of weakness, doubt or not always knowing the answers, goes ahead and
overcomes anyway, said Christopher Reeve (CR). A countless number of people wish to be
remembered upon their death, however, very few are remembered much past their death. Those who
are though often did an enormous amount of significant things in

Middle Ages Essay
Middle Ages
The history of the modern world derives from thousands of years of human history. Embedded in its
history are the many eras of man which have constructed our modern learning, art, beliefs, and order.
The middle ages, although represented as dark , backwards, and idle, were in fact a bridge linking the
classical and modern world. Medieval society may not have been in a sense glorious, but the era of
itself was a prime foundation of the modern world s newfound stability, a revival of the law and
teachings from the classical era, a reinvestment and reform in the church, and a precursor to the
golden age of art.
The government of the middle ages, as convoluted and variable as it was, ended up giving way to a

AS revolutionary as the transition was to the feudal system, the practice proved to be efficient in the
modern world.
The influence of universities and merchants, as seen, changed the kingdom. Medieval universities
were first formed in the 12th century AD after a need for educated public officials became evident.
Schools like the Law School at Bologna as well as medical schools gave towns lawyers, judges and
capable local officials. Other schools like the University of Paris taught scholars literature and
theology. The breed of Renaissance thinking was most likely developed in such places. Scholars like
Peter Abelard and Thomas Aquinas led an interest in the study of classical Greek and Roman
philosophy. This interest, along with challenged perspectives of the time eventually led to modern
science. Guilds, as afore mentioned, were monopolistic practices over certain trades set by merchants.
They virtually eliminated competition and ensured quality. Compared to Renaissance art, and
Shakespearean and Elizabethan literature the precursor saw little. However, works like Chaucer s
Canterbury Tales were popular, and the Gothic architectural style laid a foundation for many
cathedrals and buildings. It is still a dominant facade in today s world and was relished in modern
Western Europe. A powerful education system and study of art are necessary for society s to flourish
and carry it s roots into the next era;

Prejudice And Racism In Ragtime By E. L. Doctorow
In the 19th century racism was a considerable problem. E.L. Doctorow presents the racism that was
occurring in reality through fictional Coalhouse Walker. He is also able to indicate to the reader the
effects of discrimination. In Ragtime, Coalhouse Walker stands as a symbol and an advocate for the
black people that want to go against the stereotypes that white people make about them. The world has
changed vastly since the 19th century especially in the matter of racism. Coalhouse Walker was a
professional looking black man who found love with a young woman named Sarah. Walker was not
the typical African American and it was very noticeable. Starting from when Walker got out of a new
Model T Ford(155) and continuing to his attire and tone of voice, Walker was in every way different

The Philosophy And Mission At The University Of Phoenix
McDonalization has gradually become part of American s culture, as it extended to most of the service
and consumption organizations in modern society, including education, food, clothing and many more.
As Ritzer puts it, the principle of McDonalization will become dominate more and more sectors of
American society as well as the rest of the world. According to Ritzer, McDonalization has four main
parts, which are efficiency, calculability, predictability, and control. The first dimension, efficiency,
means the optimum method of completing a task. As for predictability, it means to assure that all
products and services will be the same over time and in all locales. While looking at these dimensions,
it does show some resemblances with the philosophy and mission at the University of Phoenix.
According to the University of Phoenix s philosophy, the curriculum are designed to be centralize, in
which faculty members collaborate to create each program instead of the professor himself. What this
means is that through the use of standardize course content, professors can t decide on their own
course content and that students have to study with a standardized curriculum. This is an example of
what predictability is all about in higher education, students are required to take a same set of
curriculum that was set out by the department without choices. This also means students are required
to have the same teaching system, same textbooks, and same type of examinations. This allows the

Mesopotamia
Early civilizations from Mesopotamia to Egypt were established primarily because of the shift from
hunting and gathering to agricultural means of acquiring food. This change meant that not everyone in
a population was necessary for the group s survival and therefore, some members had free time . This
extra time allowed for advances in religion, writing, and politics, three key features of civilization. By
studying these advances, we can better learn how civilization originally looked and we can examine
the effects of their advances in today s society. With this new spare time usually allocated for hunting
and gathering, early people logically looked for reasons to explain the nature of things. These
explanations initiated the earliest forms of religion a prominent feature in the basis of both
Mesopotamian and Egyptian life.1 Mesopotamians created and actively worshiped hundreds of gods,
many of which explained different phenomena and could control how the forces of nature affected
people. The Mesopotamians, therefore, found their purpose in serving the will of the gods.2 Egyptians

support the immigrant students, particularly Jews. When it became harder to control Jewish
enrollment, in 1920 s most respected universities such as Harvard, Yale and Princeton considered
legacy status. Since then it has raised the concerns for lower class families who did not attend good
universities and their children wanted to attend but ended up not getting admission. In 2003, Senator
Edward Kennedy sought legislation to compel colleges to make public their data on legacy
admissions. It didn t pass due to higher education s powerful lobbying. Legacy admission ... Show

It shows how ivy colleges prefer legacy admissions. Although it is not illegal, but recently two legal
theories are offered under which legacy preferences could be challenged at both public and private
institutions under the Fourteenth Amendment s Equal Protection Clause (Ladeswki 578). The civil act
of 1866 prevents the states from giving titles of nobility. Minorities since most of elite university s
alumni belong to upper class families. Americans are concerned about such type of practices as it
creates doubt about institution s commitment to meritocracy and equal opportunity (Mullen 47). On
the contrary, three out of four Americans oppose ancestry based discrimination so they can create
equal opportunities for lower class families to get into elite colleges. According to Mullen research
shows that a candidate has a 30% chance of admission, an applicant with the exact same academic
record and extracurricular activities, but also a parent who attended the school as an undergraduate
would have 75% chance. This shows that due to legacy admission, there s less academic competition.
Moreover, many colleges claim that legacy status is just use as a tie breaker in a very close admission
call. However, according to the book affirmative action for the rich informs that the weight of legacy
preference is noteworthy, adding 160 points to candidate s record. Samuel G.

The Influence Of The American Soldiers During World War II
Who would have ever thought a small amount of rice with raw fish on top of it would become so
popular across the world? Sushi s fame jumped an ocean across and became popular in the USA.
Many factors contributed to its popularization and has helped make its place in the American cuisine.
As time passed by, the simple creations of sushi evolved to complicated combinations and eye
catching presentations today. This change was welcomed because it gave a new perspective of the
dish, giving it a new face.
One of the factors that made sushi popular was the influence of the American soldiers. After World
War II (WWII), American soldiers who were led by General Douglas MacArthur occupied Japan.
During the war, sushi shops were forced to close due to rationing. There were not enough rice to
reopen the shops after the war. The American forces created a program where people would be the
ones to bring their own rice to the shop if they wanted sushi. The sushi chef would then use the rice
brought by the customers to make sushi for them. This allowed for the shops to reopen and function.
This popularized sushi outside of Tokyo (sushi was mainly sold in the city). One can say, sushi was
saved by the American forces. If the American forces had not stepped in and created the program to
help revive the sushi shops, no doubt would there be sushi shops open today. Sushi would not have
had the chance to spread outside of Tokyo.
Another factor is The Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923. This was a

House Train Research Paper
How to house train a new puppy by Augusto Deoliveira There are two methods that are my favorites...
the first one and most commonly used by puppy owners is the crate training.. The second method I
really like is to have your puppy on a leash while in the house and have that leash attaching to you
while you do your tours around the house... Now let me go into details on how both of these methods
work and why.. first lets talk about how the crate works to help you house train your puppy.. Not only
potty train but also avoid unwanted chewing habits to develop. Dogs are clean animals in their natural
habitat the dogs would have an area where they rest, sleep and have raise their babies.. They do not

if you are standing outside with them you should ignore them and just make small circles walking
around gets them to move which stimulates them to go to the bathroom.. if you start to talk to them or
play with them before they have done their business you may distract them and prevent them from
going to the bathroom outside which means they will have to do it in the house when you go back in..
so ignoring them and just walking in circles is the best thing to do... Once your puppy has done his/her
business you can bring them back in the house and give them a little free time to explore the home.. no
crates or leashes.. but not for more than 30 minutes at a time UNLESS you REALLY are watching

Samurai Dbq Analysis
The samurai the warrior for Japan, they were determined to defend their ruler no matter what the cost
is for example torture, Death or imprisonment. The knight was the warrior for Europe. They kept
order in Europe when there was none. Even though samurai and knights have many similarities, in a
one on one battle, the advantage would be to the samurai and this can be seen in their armor, training
and beliefs. The first way samurais would have an advantage is their armor. In document D written by
the DBQ Project it states The helmet bowl was made of 8 12 iron plates. This gives them the upper
hand because they had more head protection, this allows them to take more blows to the head. Another
piece of evidence that supports my claim is in document D written by the DBQ Project it says Below
it was a 5 piece neck guard . Their neck protection is probably one of the most important place to
protect because one hit to the neck can paralyze them or kill them. Although armor is important, there
are more subjects that could lead them to victory. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Why Is The Crusades Justified Dbq
The Crusades were Holy Wars during the 11th century that intended to expand Christian territory. The
Crusades began when Christians initiated military campaigns to take control of the Holy Lands around
the city of Jerusalem. Ever since the fall of the Roman Empire, Christianity had been so strong that
people were able to spread it through campaigning. Different people from the time period of the
Crusades have varying viewpoints on it, a few of which being that the Crusades caused fear and
destruction, the violence of the Crusades were justified because of religious reasons, and that the
Crusades were not only harmful to Muslims, but Jews and Christians.
The first viewpoint believed by many is that the Crusades caused fear and destruction. Documents 4
and 5 especially support this opinion. These sources both explain the demolition caused in Southwest
Asia by the Europeans during the Crusades. Document 4, the excerpt from The Crusades Through the
Arabs Eyes, describes the torture and murder of Arabs by Franks. One vivid description in the source

Documents 3 and 7 support this opinion. Document 3 shows the harm Christians brought to Jews
during the Crusades. The writer of this chronicle describes how heavily the Jews prayed in fear of the
Christians attacks. A piece of information not mentioned in this document, but that is relevant to the
topic, is that attacks during the Crusades on Jews originally started from small groups of peasants and
were condemned by the Church, but soon the Jews started getting attacked by bigger and bigger mobs.
The author of Source 7, is outraged by the attacks on Christians from Crusaders, and believes it is a
violation of the Church. A quote describing these attacks is, the divine body and blood of Christ was

The Pros And Cons Of The Indian Removal Act
This historical document is a transcription of President Andrew Jackson s Second Annual Message to
Congress. Before his second annual message to Congress, Jackson had already signed the Indian
Removal Act into law. The Indian Removal Act allowed the President to grant lands in the west to
Indian tribes that agreed to give up their lands in the east ( Indian Treaties and the Removal Act ). In
his message, Jackson claims that Indian Removal Act is beneficial to everyone involved. Although
Jackson outlines the benefits of speeding up the process of removing Indian tribes from their
homelands, in reality, the Indian Removal Act does not benefit Indian tribes because it only leads to a
forced migration, reinforces prejudice towards the Indians, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In other words, the Indians were capable of becoming civilized and were not completely savage. Thus,
it would not be that difficult for the Indian and white populations to live in peace with each other.
Instead of relocating the Indians to less desirable places the government should have left them alone to
improve their lives. In addition, the Indian Removal Act increases the differences between the Indians
and the white settlers. Jackson believes that the removal would benefit the Indians by causing them to
cast off their savage habits and become an interesting, civilized, and Christian community ( Message
to the People ). The contradiction is that Jackson expected the removal to help the Indians become
civilized and yet, he sought to separate them from the white settlers. If the Indians were allowed to
live with the white settlers, they would have the opportunity to learn many things from their white
neighbors. Hence, the isolation of the Indians would only push them further away from civilization.
Most importantly, the Indian Removal Act negatively affects the way of life of the Indians. Near the
end of his message, Jackson asks, is it supposed that the wandering savage has a stronger attachment
to his home than the settled, civilized Christian? ( Message to the People ). Although there was a
common belief that because the Indians were

The Ninja s of ancient times would use whatever they could to camouflage themselves on their
various missions, themselves becoming the F 22 s of their time. They utilized color patterns that
would simply blend in with the background, becoming patches in the land the eye simply would not
focus on, and that is the basis of visual camouflage; to fool the enemy into thinking he sees nothing.
The next notable use of camouflage technology came on the bloody battlefields of World War One.
During this conflict, airplanes were first used to recon enemy positions. However, in the words of W.
I. Boucher, Once in the air or even on the ground, the first military aircraft stood out like sore thumbs

to make the aircraft disappear into the woodwork (WWIAviation.com). Britain was the first with any

Tidal Power
Engineering Design for Sustainability
TIDAL WAVE ENERGY
Introduction
Tidal power is a form of energy which derives directly from the relative motions of the Earth/Moon
system, and to a lesser extent from the Earth/Sol system.
Tidal energy is gained from the exchange of large bodies of water. Changes in water levels, and
associated tidal currents, are due to the gravitational pull of the Sun and Moon. This makes Tidal
Power completely predictable; furthermore, because it is created by relative motion of the special
bodies, it is in exhaustible.
Therefore Tidal power is much more reliable than other renewable sources such as wind or solar
power and will long outlast fossil fuels.
Tidal Power in the UK
It is estimated that tidal power ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At high tide sea water flows into the reservoir through a one way gate. The gate closes when the tide
begin to fall and when the tide is low enough, the stored water is released at pressure through turbines,
back into the sea. The rotation of these turbines generates electricity.
The first commercial scale tidal generating barrage rated at 240 MW was built in La Rance. There is
smaller plant in Nova Scotia, rated at 20 megawatts (enough power for 4,500 homes).
The Dam for the tidal power plant on the estuary of the Rance River, Bretagne, France
The viability of Barrage systems has been questioned due to high civil infrastructure costs and
environmental issues. Although this method have proven very durable, barrage style power plants are
very expensive to build and are fraught with environmental problems from the accumulation of silt
within the dam catchment area (requiring regular, expensive dredging).
There are only a few potential sites across the globe and there are only three functioning plants
worldwide (Rance River, Bay of Fundy and Kislaya Guba).
Tidal Stream Systems
Engineers have created two new kinds of devices to harness the energy of tidal currents and generate
renewable, pollution free electricity. These are: Vertical axis and Horizontal axis models. They are
determined by the orientation of a subsea, rotating shaft that turns a gearbox linked to a turbine with

The Theological Ideas Of Pope Francis
As the world modernizes at unprecedented rates and becomes increasingly secular, there is increasing
scrutiny on the Church and her actions. The Church, plagued by sex scandals and slandered for its
rejection of many new ideas, is often dismissed as obsolete and unable to keep pace. Therefore, it has
to adapt its teachings to fit the current global situation while keeping true its core values. At the
forefront of this mission is Pope Francis who must also guide the Church through an age where
empiricism and relativism is ubiquitous. Furthermore, he is tasked to provide guidance and insight
regarding contemporary global problems, namely, the deteriorating state of the environment and the

This idea in turn renders the question of universal truth no longer relevant since religion seems to lie
at the root of fanaticism . The Church attributes the fear of a common truth as the causality of
relativism since humans identify it with the intransigent demands of totalitarian systems. However, if
the truth is a truth of love , then it can be set free from its enclosure in individuals and become part of
the common good argues the Church. In other words, there is only one truth, a truth of love, which
remains true in every case, improves and sustains its adherents, and precedes all human life. The
Church argues in Lumen fidei that rather from us possessing truth, it is truth which embraces and
possesses us. It is a truth to which all life is subservient whether one acknowledges it or not thus
making relativism invalid. With this concept in mind, the encyclical tackles skepticism caused by
empiricism. It argues that although it is impossible to verify if Christianity has encountered the real
Jesus it is not a reason to discredit the Church because it is not the only way people can attain
knowledge . The other way of attaining knowledge is through others, the encyclical says: Our own
knowledge and self awareness are relational; they are linked to others who have gone before us.

were carried out using a field model, FDS (Fire Dynamics Simulator, Version 3). The size of the
atrium and HRR of steady fire are listed in Table (2 4). In all the simulations, the size of the fire room
was set at 3 m × 3 m × 3 m, the fire was located at the center of the floor of the fire room, the height
of atrium was 27 m. The vents in the fire floor were both 2 m × 1.5 m with sill at 1 m above the floor.
The ambient temperature is 20 oC.
Fig. (2 8) shows the situation of early stage when a fire occurs in an adjacent floor to an atrium. The
fire floor has two vertical vents (WA and WB) open to outside and the atrium respectively. The ceiling
of the atrium is open, and it is supposed that the isolation between the atrium and the other floors is
ideal. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The velocity profile at the vents is simply shown in Fig. 1. At the top of the vents, because the smoke
in the fire floor is lighter than the air in the atrium and outside, pressure difference between the fire
floor and outside (atrium as the same) is larger than at the lower place of the vents. At the bottom of
the vents, the pressure difference gets negative to that at the top. So there should be a zero pressure
difference or zero velocity plane α and β at the two vents

Analysis Of Strange Memes, By Sherry Turkle
Humans have mastered the skill of copying others. Mostly everyone follows what they were shown;
they copy whatever they were taught. This is the idea of memes being passed down. Susan Blackmore
describes how memes have taken over our lives. She talks in her article, Strange Creatures, what
memes are and how the theory of selfish meme theory is being shown throughout living creatures.
Meme is the idea of imitating someone else s thoughts. Selfish is implied as thoughts being passed
down and trying to dominate other thoughts. Memes spread randomly and humans continue to use
those same thoughts. Mostly no one believes in creating their own thoughts. She describes how the
thought of copying has been passed down and the idea that occurs is spread throughout everyone.
Sherry Turkle specifically talks about the use of technology in her article, Alone Together . Everyone
uses technology whether it is good for them or not. Turkle describes how everyone has become
desperate to their gadgets. She talks more about people becoming dependent and how people want
technology. Blackmore s theory applies to Turkle s examples of the use of technology. The idea that
the use of technology is a meme. Everyone believes the use of technology is necessary for daily lives
since it has become normal to them. Therefore, the use of meme theory is being shown in society s
daily lives; this makes the outcome of the use of meme theory scary since everyone is copying others
and not showing

Persuasive Essay On How To Get A Driver s License
Getting my driver s license was a huge milestone in my life. There are a lot of steps to take in order to
earn a license. You need to be prepared to drive in a world where rules are an abstract concept, and are
rarely applied. Here is the process I went through to obtain my driver s license, and how I barely
achieved a goal that was very important to me.
Before I could even think about driving myself to school, I had to obtain a learner s permit for 6
months. Most teenagers earn their learner s permit at 15 and a half, their parents give them $365 to go
to driving school for 2 weeks, and then they have their license at 16 years old. That was not the case
for me. My parents were not as supportive of me nor as excited as most parents would be for their
teenagers to get their driver s license. I was unable to earn my permit until I was 16. When the long
and torturous 6 months of me driving with my mother were finally over, I simply asked my parents if
they could financially help me out with driving school. They never had the money for those kinds of
things. That meant it was all up to me to be independent and get a job. At seventeen years old I had
enough money to take to the Springfield School of Driving and place a deposit to start my classes.
After I finished driving school, I was eager to schedule my driver s exam.
August 22, 2017 was a rainy day. At the time, I had never even driven once in the rain. I was unaware
how to use both windshield wipers and headlights. This

Iago By William Shakespeare s Othello
Iago is able to manipulate different characters throughout Othello by appearing to be honest and
trustworthy, and using this to make people believe what he is saying is the truth. This means that Iago
can tell them what he wants, in order to achieve whatever he desires. Simply, Iago is a two faced
character. A very ironic part of the play is when Iago says, By Janus , as Janus is a two faced Roman
god.
The first person/character is Rodrigo. Rodrigo is blinded by his love for Desdemona and is prepared to
try anything to win her heart. This makes him an easy target for Iago, as Rodrigo will do anything to
get what he wants, Desdemona. Rodrigo is initially upset with Iago, as he has paid Iago to encourage a
marriage between him and Desdemona, but instead Desdemona had married Othello. However, Iago
easily restores Rodrigo s faith in him by saying his hatred for Othello he says with erratic words, like
despise me, I do not when Rodrigo asks if he hates Othello. Rodrigo is used for his money, Iago tells
his him repeatedly to put money in thy purse . Even when Rodrigo threatens Iago, assure yourself I
will seek satisfaction of you (Scene four), he doesn t have the necessary the mindset and power to
back up his threats, and instead is convinced by Iago to murder Cassio by knocking out his brains .
However, Iago intents Rodrigo, as well as Cassio to live Rodrigo . To make sure of this he stabs
Rodrigo after Cassio wounds him.
Another person manipulated by Iago is

Food Insecurity Essay
Listening to conversations about food on campus, I found that there was a common theme last year: it
was difficult to find healthy food on campus. I think we ll find that to be less of the case this year,
especially with N Rich recently opening in the Union, and a new service called Instacart that will
deliver groceries to campus. However, despite an expanded variety of options to purchase fresh fruits
and vegetables, the problem of food insecurity has hardly been addressed. Food insecurity is the state
of being without reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food, according to the
Oxford Dictionary. It is a widespread problem on college campuses across the nation. While food
insecurity only impacts 14% of households, 48% of college students claim to be food insecure. This
problem disproportionately impacts first generation college students, students of color, and students
who need financial aid, as noted by the National Student Campaign Against Hunger and
Homelessness. Today, these students still have few resources to address this problem. Last year, I was
excited to see N Rich open. I toured inside and out, and saw that it increased my options to buy
healthy food on campus. Though there s valid argument that N Rich s variety is small, for the first
time in my college career, I did not have to travel over a mile to buy an onion. N Rich opens up
options for students with more meal plan money than they need. But for students who need to ration

Issues In The Waiting Room
The Waiting Room is a documentary about the truth of public hospitals. This film follows the patients,
and the staff of this ER waiting room, and how insufficient the system is for them. While we watch the
staff work as hard as they can to treat all the patients possible, we come to the realization that there is
a major shortage in the needed room space, and supplies to treat all of these patients in a timely
manner. Our healthcare system is very flawed in the way it treats the people in need, and there is no
way of knowing if there will be any major change to help these people get the care they need.
The Waiting Room was produced in 2011, meaning that there should have been changes made to fix
this flawed health care system, but there hasn t ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because there is such a high number of people without insurance they usually don t get the treatments
they need, and if they do receive treatment, it usually follows a very long wait, and they are not the
best treatment. But most of these people have no other choice.
We get to witness the real struggle of multiple different patients, all with different levels of severity
for their visit. The first patient that stood out was a father who lost his job the previous year and didn t
have any health insurance for him or his kids. He had to take his very ill daughter to the public ER ,
and because she was on the lower side of severity, they had to wait for hours just to get seen by a
doctor. This story stood out to me because of the time a ill child had to wait just to get any treatment at
all.
Another story that stood out was the man who had to wait in a full waiting room with a bullet in his
leg. This man had a deadly object in his body and he still had to wait for hours just to be seen by a
doctor. He had to wait because the hospital had no room to put him in. Even if you re the first one to
get to the ER, it doesn t mean that you get in first. The hospital determines who goes in first by how
severe your situation is, so they could have a patient waiting in the waiting room for many hours, just
so they can get a prescription of

Summary:
This article focuses mainly on how the National Federation of Independent Business vs Sebelius case
impacted both healthcare law and constitutional law. There are also some opinion about how the ruling
was mostly impacted by consideration of its healthcare impact or constitutional law, as conceived by
different parties. Healthcare law considers issues of coverage, accessibility, cost, accountability, and
the quality of healthcare service. All these must be considered when making policies that affect health
care which makes it especially problematic. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

time upheld another mandate allowing people to legally choose to violate the mandate of the Patient

health care law sensitivity consideration . The Court Justices were split into different factions of
opinions, tax power and the commerce power. To sum it up, majority of the court Justice s opinion err

The Effect Of Rocket Angle On Projectile Range Of A Tennis...
Year 11 Physics
Extended Experimental Investigation (EEI)
The Physics of Projectile Motion
Submitted by: Anna Sunio

Final due date: 6th June 2014
The Effect of Launch Angle on Projectile Range of a Tennis Ball
Aim:
The aim of this experiment is to determine the effect of the launching angle on the distance of the
projectile, to identify, apply and use the laws of projectile motion to predict the distance at which a
projectile will travel when projected at a known angle and velocity and to investigate the effect
varying angles of trajectory have on displacement.
Hypothesis:
If the launching angle is wider than 0° but less than 45° then the farther the projectile range will be
because the higher the shot is, the longer it takes to hit the ground. The projectile s trajectory that is
propelled at an angle wider than 0° goes up first then has to come down rather than being shot at an
angle less than 0° which will cause the projectile s trajectory to go straight and fall instantly.
Abstract:
A projectile was fired from atop an elevation and an angle. The initial velocity for each firing was the
same. The distance travelled in the horizontal direction was measured for multiple firings of each trial,
and the values were averaged. When the initial velocity for each of these averages was calculated, it
was proved that the initial velocity was relatively constant. These measurements had many possible
sources of error including air resistance

John Keats s Poem, Ode On A Grecian Urn, And The Eve Of...
Keats covered many topics in the poems he wrote during his short life but the theme of fantasy being a
better alternative to reality was prominent throughout many of his works. To Keats the idea that,
Heard melodies are sweet, but those unheard/ Are sweeter (Urn 11 12) play a major role in his poetry,
demonstrating that for him the idea of what is yet to come is far better than the actual reality of the
situation. Through the narratives and stories he tells in his poems, Ode on a Grecian Urn, Ode to a
Nightingale, and The Eve of St. Agnes, it is made evident that Keats would rather live in the fantasy
realm of his own mind than in reality. In his poem Ode on a Grecian Urn, the fantasy that Keats feels
is better than reality is displayed in the scenes decorating the urn, pictures forever frozen in time. At
the beginning of stanza two Keats writes, Heard melodies are sweet, but those unheard/ Are sweeter
(Urn 11 12). In these lines Keats is saying that the anticipation of an event or experience is far better
than the actual experience itself, or rather that the reality of a situation can never truly live up to the
ideal that one has had in one s mind. To Keats, the scenes displayed on the urn are so beautiful that he
not only admires the artwork, he envies those on the urn because they will forever get to display the
scenes of Happy happy boughs (Urn 21) and, unlike he, will never have to bid the spring adieu (Urn
22). To him the urn exemplifies the

Acid-Base Extraction Lab Report
Introduction Acid base extraction is a very useful technique in organic chemistry. It is used to separate
organic compounds from each other. The idea is that most of organic compounds will be more soluble
in organic solvents than they are in water (1). The extraction, in its most basic form, will result in
unequal distribution of solute between two immiscible (not forming one mixture when added together)
solvents (2). Since both of the solvents are immiscible, two separate layers will be formed inside of
the separatory funnel (2). Once the two layers have been separated, it is easy to draw off the bottom
layer by opening the bottom of the separatory funnel and letting it drain out until the entire lower layer
has left the funnel. Being able to determine the identities of the layers is very important in ensuring the
appropriate treatment to each liquid after being separated out. It s important to know that the more
dense liquid will be on the bottom of the separatory funnel (2). For this reason, diethyl ether and ethyl
acetate are usually used for extraction because both are less dense than the dilute solutions (3). The
name acid base extraction comes from the idea that organic compounds are separate based on their
acid base properties (1). An example of an acid base extraction based on acid base properties would be
a separation of a mixture containing an organic acid, a base and a neutral compound (2). First, an
organic acid will react with a base to

Changes And Continuities Of Indian Ocean Trade
There were many changes and continuities in the Indian ocean trade routes from the classical to the
post classic time period. The trade along the Indian Ocean spread culture, religion, technology, crops,
and other goods. This diffusion of goods, technology, and religion along the Indian Ocean trade routes
was very similar to the diffusion of European and Native American goods, technology, and religion
during the 15th 17th centuries in the Americas, often known as the age of exploration. This is because
along the India indian ocean during the post classical period, buddhism and hinduism spread to Africa
and China and Islam spread into India. From India, many goods including cotton, spices, black pepper,
ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, nutmeg, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One innovation that greatly increased trade in the Indian ocean were Chinese Junks. Junks were
Chinese sailboats that were created during the Song dynasty. The Arabian dhow sails were also
produced during this time period. This was very significant because during the classical period, people
could only travel along the Indian Ocean depending on the monsoon seasons. This is because the
current would only travel in specific directions depending on the season. This new Arabian dhow
allowed for travel against the wind and current, giving the merchants more control over trade. They
could transport a vast amount of goods due to their substantial size. Another technological
advancement was the creation of Arab astrolabes. The astrolabe uses the sun, the moon, and the stars
to identify one s location. This was highly useful for sea trade when determining the ship s latitude.
The Chinese compass was another useful technology for determining the cardinal directions and
navigation at sea. Therefore, without these significant technological innovations, trade along the
Indian Ocean would not have been as easy or

Leslie twiggy Hornby Essay
quot;At 17 Leslie Hornby took hold of the world. At 21 she let it go, she was the original waif, a 60 s
phenomenon a superstar. She was Twiggy quot; (Vogue). Leslie Hornby was the revolutionary woman
who changed the idea of beauty in the eyes of the fashion industry and the entire world.
Twiggy exemplified the androgynous mod look that swept America as it had Britain and much of
Europe in the 1960 s. She healthily maintained a 5 ft 6 1/2 inch 90 lb body. Based on her thin figure, a
nickname of quot;Twiggy quot; was derived. Twiggy s popularity not only produced many people who
tried to look like her but also drastically increased the hourly wages of models.

Twiggy s success soared when she made her first visit to America. On March 20,1967 the second she
stepped off the plane she was swarmed by fans, and was candy to the media s eyes. She was like a
fever that spread.
Everyone wanted a piece of her. Her pictures were everywhere. Twiggy s popularity allowed her to
charge revolutionary high prices an hour. She charged as much as $240 an hour opposed to a 50 s top
model like Suzy Parker who only received about $40 an hour (Century of Models). Once again
Twiggy set the standard for 90 s top models to earn outrageous sums of money. For example, the 90 s
Twiggy (Kate Moss) earns about 26.3 million dollars a year.
One reason for Twiggy s great success was that the public had never seen anyone like her. She had a
completely new look that took the entire world by surprise. During the 40 s, long limbed, and
sophisticated was the trend. In the 50 s, a more curvaceous womanly look (Marilyn Monroe) was in.
Twiggy set the 60 s waiflike standard. What a leap from Marilyn to Twiggy. They were almost
completely opposite. Twiggy s influence is still seen on today s runways and television.
The current day Twiggy is Kate Moss. Her figure is strikingly similar (Twiggy 31 22 32, Moss 33 22
35) (Century of Models). Remarkably, Twiggy s favorite thing to eat was ice cream, bananas and hot
fudge, she doesn t drink or smoke but quot;eats like a horse quot; (Time). Twiggy is

The Mediating Roles Of Psychological Contract Fulfillment
Hypothesis For this study the authors gave five hypotheses. These hypotheses were related to the
mediating roles of psychological contract fulfillment, need for change and trust. Trust being the only
one included in three of the hypotheses. For hypothesis 1 the authors hypothesized that psychological
contract fulfillment moderates the relationship of attitude toward change and change information,
therefore change information is positively correlated to psychological contract fulfillment.
Furthermore psychological contract fulfillment would be positively correlated to behavioral, affective,
and cognitive dimensions of attitude toward change. For hypothesis 2 it was hypothesized by the
authors that perceived need for change influences the relationship between change information and
attitude toward change showing that change information and perceived need for change are positively
correlated. Also that perceived need for change is positively correlated to the behavioral, affective, and
cognitive dimension of attitude toward change. For hypothesis 3a, it was hypothesized that trust
moderates the relationship between attitude toward change and change information, therefore there s a
positive correlation between trust and change information, and trust and the affective, behavioral, and
cognitive dimension of attitude toward change. Furthermore, for hypothesis 3b, the authors
hypothesized that trust affected psychological contract fulfillment in a positive way. Lastly, for

The Battle House Renaissance Hotel
These are some of the most haunted locations in Alabama. Guests and staff at many of the hotels have
reported sightings of ghostly apparitions or other peculiar happenings.
Battle House Renaissance Hotel
There are many old stories about deaths in the Battle House. In one story, a man who was having an
affair with a married woman was beaten to death in one of the rooms on the fifth floor. Another
spooky story is that a bride couldn t wait for her groom anymore and hung herself in the Crystal
Ballroom. Guests have reported plenty of ghostly experiences in the hotel. One guest reported flashes
of bright lights in her room. Another guest reported feeling and seeing the bed dip as if someone sat on
it. Those both happened on the fourth floor. Faucets have turned on and off during the night as well.
Fort Conde Inn
Ghost hunters have investigated much of the surrounding area near the inn. They ve heard eerie
whisperings on voice recorders as well as light touches. On the second floor of the inn itself, there
have been reports of voices when there is no one else around. Many people have reported a sense that
someone is near them on the second floor. The housekeeper at the inn saw her mop bucket roll slowly
down the stairs. It stopped and after a few seconds rolled the rest of the way down the stairs.

Maybe because they found Equality 7 2521 a threat he may be able to find something that could change everything the way they think of the society and themselves. • 5. Cultural Differences In American Culture On the topic of culture, ethnocentrism should be mindful as it refer to culturally biased judgement of an individual s perspective of their own culture is superiors than another (Levines 2001). This is not to be confused with racism as to be an ethnocentric often relates to how we individuals view another culture from our own. For example it is considered norm in China for fellow co workers to ask each other s how much they earned whereas in European country it is considered rude and inappropriate. Through the discussion in culture forum 1, I have noticed each personal view on the topic culture were quite varied from one and another. For a long time, houses in remote Indigenous communities have been provided with the standard housing and planning which do not necessarily suit their cultural and climatic need. This has led to a socially dysfunctional built environment due to the disregard of cultural and climatic differences of the Indigenous communities (Lee Morris 2005). For an example, Indigenous communities have tendency of large and inconsistent of family members and dwellers living in the same house hold. Consequently overcrowding can be problematic because of not enough sleeping areas, toilets and bathrooms. Thus, the standard size of bedrooms cannot accommodate the large amount of people therefore many people sleep in areas that are designed for sleeping, such as under verandas and living rooms (Fien et al. 2008). • 6. Example Of Transcendentalism In Peanuts Peanuts is a comic strip that ran from the 1950 s to the 2000 s. It s focused around a depressed and meek boy named Charlie Brown. The comics tell the story of him, his friends, and all of their adventures. While the comic strip ended in the 2000 s the world of Charlie Brown still lives on to this day. Around 120 years before the world of Charlie Brown, the philosophical movement of transcendentalism appeared. It emphasized the spirit and one s own individuality. Even though it came out a significant amount of time in the past, transcendentalism is still apparent in the modern world. Peanuts is a modern day example of transcendentalism in the way it represents character s own confidence and free thought. One of the characteristics of transcendentalism is confidence. A character in Peanuts who is a prime example of confidence is Lucy Van Pelt. For instance, in one of the comics written by Charles Schulz, when Lucy says that she has a knack for seeing other people s faults, Linus asks her about her own faults she responds that she has a knack for overlooking them and then when Charlie Brown says to Lucy, Sometimes you really astound me. I ve never known anyone who was so consistently crabby! How do you explain that? she answers, Never change a winning game! Lucy is a very sarcastic character and she stands by the way that she goes about life. She has an amazing amount of self confidence and she doesn t let anyone else get to her because she believes strongly in her actions. She s a strong example of confidence in transcendentalism because of how much she believes in herself and stands by her actions. Also, in A Charlie Brown Christmas the story revolves around the idea that Charlie Brown doesn t believe that the over commercialized Christmas that they all celebrate is the real meaning of Christmas. Then when he s asked to go get a big and over the top Christmas tree for the play, he grabs a small and neglected tree because he sees the potential in it and he feels like it s his job to give it a home. When all of his friends make fun of him and tell him that he s stupid he gets depressed, but he doesn t lose his confidence that that isn t what Christmas is all about. • 7. Life Experience Essay Life is full of exciting experiences for us to enjoy. However, these experiences are meant to teach life lessons that should remain with us. In my 17 years of living, I have had many lessons to be learned from events I have gone through. One of those lessons sticks out above the rest and it has a humorous story to go along with it. The story starts out with the group planning a get together while eating breakfast at Mcdonald s. Ideas were flowing out of our heads like a river. We could not agree on a plan of action for the longest time. Finally, it was decided that we should go to Kenzie s house after she said her dad would cook for us. I was immediately down for that idea because I knew her dad makes the best chicken wings ever. The rest of the day for me was spent thinking about what to wear that night. Eventually, the time came for heading over to Kenzie s house. Bailey, another girl in the group, asked me to give her a ride since she did not have her driver s license. Because of this, we were one of the last ones to make it to Kenzie s. In the time that we missed the group decided that they wanted to go and toilet paper some of our friend s houses that lived close to Kenzie. I had never done something like this before. However, the excitement of doing this and avoid being caught appealed to me. We all piled into the cars and headed to Wal Mart to buy the toilet paper. We had an interesting event that happened to us while we were in Wal Mart. The event was when ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even having a relationship even if it was not exclusive you were targeted for being interested in a Tutsi, who at the time were called cockroaches. Tutsis were identified by having lighter skin, lighter eyes, and thinner noses. They were also typically taller and thinner. The Epic Of Beowulf As An Epic Hero The whole earth is the tomb of heroic men and their story is not given only on stone over their clay but abides everywhere without visible symbol woven into the stuff of other men s lives, said Perculus (PR). For those whose lives were truly something great, something memorable, their stories are transcripted into writings. In a more classic take on the King Arthur story, Le Morte d Arthur offers a better insight on the physical traits that makes one an epic hero. Upon the failure of a treaty between the Arthur and Mordred, an epic battle took place that would decide the fate of the Christian both men stood upon. During this battle Arthur bravely led his men into battle, single handedly defeating dozens of Mordred s knights. To conclude the battle Arthur fought Mordred one on one, defeating him with a deadly blow to the chest beneath Mordred s shield. Embedded in its history are the many eras of man which have constructed our modern learning, art, beliefs, and order. The middle ages, although represented as dark , backwards, and idle, were in fact a bridge linking the classical and modern world. Medieval society may not have been in a sense glorious, but the era of itself was a prime foundation of the modern world s newfound stability, a revival of the law and teachings from the classical era, a reinvestment and reform in the church, and a precursor to the golden age of art. AS revolutionary as the transition was to the feudal system, the practice proved to be efficient in the modern world. The influence of universities and merchants, as seen, changed the kingdom. Medieval universities were first formed in the 12th century AD after a need for educated public officials became evident. Schools like the Law School at Bologna as well as medical schools gave towns lawyers, judges and capable local officials. Other schools like the University of Paris taught scholars literature and theology. The breed of Renaissance thinking was most likely developed in such places. Scholars like Peter Abelard and Thomas Aquinas led an interest in the study of classical Greek and Roman philosophy. This interest, along with challenged perspectives of the time eventually led to modern science. Guilds, as afore mentioned, were monopolistic practices over certain trades set by merchants. They virtually eliminated competition and ensured quality. Compared to Renaissance art, and Shakespearean and Elizabethan literature the precursor saw little. However, works like Chaucer s Canterbury Tales were popular, and the Gothic architectural style laid a foundation for many cathedrals and buildings. As Ritzer puts it, the principle of McDonalization will become dominate more and more sectors of American society as well as the rest of the world. According to Ritzer, McDonalization has four main parts, which are efficiency, calculability, predictability, and control. The first dimension, efficiency, means the optimum method of completing a task. As for predictability, it means to assure that all products and services will be the same over time and in all locales. While looking at these dimensions, it does show some resemblances with the philosophy and mission at the University of Phoenix. According to the University of Phoenix s philosophy, the curriculum are designed to be centralize, in which faculty members collaborate to create each program instead of the professor himself. What this means is that through the use of standardize course content, professors can t decide on their own course content and that students have to study with a standardized curriculum. • 21. The Influence Of The American Soldiers During World War II Who would have ever thought a small amount of rice with raw fish on top of it would become so popular across the world? Sushi s fame jumped an ocean across and became popular in the USA. Many factors contributed to its popularization and has helped make its place in the American cuisine. As time passed by, the simple creations of sushi evolved to complicated combinations and eye catching presentations today. This change was welcomed because it gave a new perspective of the dish, giving it a new face. One of the factors that made sushi popular was the influence of the American soldiers. After World War II (WWII), American soldiers who were led by General Douglas MacArthur occupied Japan. During the war, sushi shops were forced to close due to rationing. There were not enough rice to reopen the shops after the war. The American forces created a program where people would be the ones to bring their own rice to the shop if they wanted sushi. The sushi chef would then use the rice brought by the customers to make sushi for them. This allowed for the shops to reopen and function. This popularized sushi outside of Tokyo (sushi was mainly sold in the city). One can say, sushi was saved by the American forces. If the American forces had not stepped in and created the program to help revive the sushi shops, no doubt would there be sushi shops open today. Sushi would not have had the chance to spread outside of Tokyo. Another factor is The Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923. This was a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Dam for the tidal power plant on the estuary of the Rance River, Bretagne, France The viability of Barrage systems has been questioned due to high civil infrastructure costs and environmental issues. Although this method have proven very durable, barrage style power plants are very expensive to build and are fraught with environmental problems from the accumulation of silt within the dam catchment area (requiring regular, expensive dredging). There are only a few potential sites across the globe and there are only three functioning plants worldwide (Rance River, Bay of Fundy and Kislaya Guba). Tidal Stream Systems Engineers have created two new kinds of devices to harness the energy of tidal currents and generate renewable, pollution free electricity. These are: Vertical axis and Horizontal axis models. They are determined by the orientation of a subsea, rotating shaft that turns a gearbox linked to a turbine with ... The Church, plagued by sex scandals and slandered for its rejection of many new ideas, is often dismissed as obsolete and unable to keep pace. Therefore, it has to adapt its teachings to fit the current global situation while keeping true its core values. At the forefront of this mission is Pope Francis who must also guide the Church through an age where empiricism and relativism is ubiquitous. The Church attributes the fear of a common truth as the causality of relativism since humans identify it with the intransigent demands of totalitarian systems. However, if the truth is a truth of love , then it can be set free from its enclosure in individuals and become part of the common good argues the Church. In other words, there is only one truth, a truth of love, which remains true in every case, improves and sustains its adherents, and precedes all human life. The Church argues in Lumen fidei that rather from us possessing truth, it is truth which embraces and possesses us. It is a truth to which all life is subservient whether one acknowledges it or not thus making relativism invalid. With this concept in mind, the encyclical tackles skepticism caused by empiricism. It argues that although it is impossible to verify if Christianity has encountered the real Jesus it is not a reason to discredit the Church because it is not the only way people can attain knowledge . The other way of attaining knowledge is through others, the encyclical says: Our own knowledge and self awareness are relational; they are linked to others who have gone before us. Without warning, Dyer ordered his troops to block the garden s only exit and fired into the defenseless crowd, which included many women and children (Grolier Online). Meme is the idea of imitating someone else s thoughts. Selfish is implied as thoughts being passed down and trying to dominate other thoughts. You need to be prepared to drive in a world where rules are an abstract concept, and are rarely applied. Here is the process I went through to obtain my driver s license, and how I barely achieved a goal that was very important to me. Before I could even think about driving myself to school, I had to obtain a learner s permit for 6 months. Most teenagers earn their learner s permit at 15 and a half, their parents give them $365 to go to driving school for 2 weeks, and then they have their license at 16 years old. That was not the case for me. My parents were not as supportive of me nor as excited as most parents would be for their teenagers to get their driver s license. I was unable to earn my permit until I was 16. When the long and torturous 6 months of me driving with my mother were finally over, I simply asked my parents if they could financially help me out with driving school. They never had the money for those kinds of things. That meant it was all up to me to be independent and get a job. At seventeen years old I had enough money to take to the Springfield School of Driving and place a deposit to start my classes. Iago By William Shakespeare s Othello Iago is able to manipulate different characters throughout Othello by appearing to be honest and trustworthy, and using this to make people believe what he is saying is the truth. I think we ll find that to be less of the case this year, especially with N Rich recently opening in the Union, and a new service called Instacart that will deliver groceries to campus. However, despite an expanded variety of options to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables, the problem of food insecurity has hardly been addressed. Food insecurity is the state of being without reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food, according to the Oxford Dictionary. It is a widespread problem on college campuses across the nation. While food insecurity only impacts 14% of households, 48% of college students claim to be food insecure. This problem disproportionately impacts first generation college students, students of color, and students who need financial aid, as noted by the National Student Campaign Against Hunger and Homelessness. Today, these students still have few resources to address this problem. Last year, I was excited to see N Rich open. Year 11 Physics Extended Experimental Investigation (EEI) The Physics of Projectile Motion Submitted by: Anna Sunio Submitted to: Mr Mark Lee Final due date: 6th June 2014 The Effect of Launch Angle on Projectile Range of a Tennis Ball Aim: The aim of this experiment is to determine the effect of the launching angle on the distance of the projectile, to identify, apply and use the laws of projectile motion to predict the distance at which a projectile will travel when projected at a known angle and velocity and to investigate the effect varying angles of trajectory have on displacement. Hypothesis: If the launching angle is wider than 0° but less than 45° then the farther the projectile range will be because the higher the shot is, the longer it takes to hit the ground. The projectile s trajectory that is propelled at an angle wider than 0° goes up first then has to come down rather than being shot at an angle less than 0° which will cause the projectile s trajectory to go straight and fall instantly. Abstract: A projectile was fired from atop an elevation and an angle. The initial velocity for each firing was the same. The distance travelled in the horizontal direction was measured for multiple firings of each trial, and the values were averaged. When the initial velocity for each of these averages was calculated, it was proved that the initial velocity was relatively constant. These measurements had many possible sources of error including air resistance ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. John Keats s Poem, Ode On A Grecian Urn, And The Eve Of... Keats covered many topics in the poems he wrote during his short life but the theme of fantasy being a better alternative to reality was prominent throughout many of his works. To Keats the idea that, Heard melodies are sweet, but those unheard/ Are sweeter (Urn 11 12) play a major role in his poetry, demonstrating that for him the idea of what is yet to come is far better than the actual reality of the situation. Through the narratives and stories he tells in his poems, Ode on a Grecian Urn, Ode to a Nightingale, and The Eve of St. Agnes, it is made evident that Keats would rather live in the fantasy realm of his own mind than in reality. In his poem Ode on a Grecian Urn, the fantasy that Keats feels is better than reality is displayed in the scenes decorating the urn, pictures forever frozen in time. At the beginning of stanza two Keats writes, Heard melodies are sweet, but those unheard/ Are sweeter (Urn 11 12). In these lines Keats is saying that the anticipation of an event or experience is far better than the actual experience itself, or rather that the reality of a situation can never truly live up to the ideal that one has had in one s mind. To Keats, the scenes displayed on the urn are so beautiful that he not only admires the artwork, he envies those on the urn because they will forever get to display the scenes of Happy happy boughs (Urn 21) and, unlike he, will never have to bid the spring adieu (Urn 22). • 46. Acid-Base Extraction Lab Report Introduction Acid base extraction is a very useful technique in organic chemistry. It is used to separate organic compounds from each other. The idea is that most of organic compounds will be more soluble in organic solvents than they are in water (1). The extraction, in its most basic form, will result in unequal distribution of solute between two immiscible (not forming one mixture when added together) solvents (2). Since both of the solvents are immiscible, two separate layers will be formed inside of the separatory funnel (2). Once the two layers have been separated, it is easy to draw off the bottom layer by opening the bottom of the separatory funnel and letting it drain out until the entire lower layer has left the funnel. Being able to determine the identities of the layers is very important in ensuring the appropriate treatment to each liquid after being separated out. It s important to know that the more dense liquid will be on the bottom of the separatory funnel (2). For this reason, diethyl ether and ethyl acetate are usually used for extraction because both are less dense than the dilute solutions (3). The name acid base extraction comes from the idea that organic compounds are separate based on their acid base properties (1). An example of an acid base extraction based on acid base properties would be a separation of a mixture containing an organic acid, a base and a neutral compound (2). First, an organic acid will react with a base to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
