mature. If one stalk of corn tried to stand on its own, it would be blown over by the whispered
wind . The whispered wind is similar to Nately sharing music with Lucinda because Nately is not
supposed to see Lucinda, their meeting, two weeks from today , is like a whispered secret
between the two of them. As the whispered wind shares messages through the corn, Nately
shares music with Lucinda. She depends on him to meet her two weeks from today and give her
music. Lucinda depends on Nately in the same way that all the corn stalks in the field depend
on the other corn stalks to grow tall and mature. The corn in the field that George observes and
the set times where Nately gives Lucinda music represent the fulfillment that comes from being
able to rely on others. George s desire to disconnect from his past and Lucinda s desire to
connect to her past represent the struggles of remembrance. George grew up in Winesburg and he

medieval England and the notion of masculinity in Canterbury Tales.
The medieval concept of maleness was heavily influenced by the writings of the classical period.
The physiological and other medical theories that constituted this concept were not restricted to the
domain of medicine. They were supported by the religious doctrines. All of these rhetorics were
based on a common assumption that men are physically, morally, and intellectually superior to
women. A key component that defined maleness was virility. Men were charged with the duty of
taking care of women s health by regularly performing sexual intercourse so that their uterus did not
dry up and she remained fertile. So important was this trait to the idea of masculinity that it was
considered as a valid reason for divorce. This caused a woman s chastity to be inextricably linked
with her husband s honor. Adulterous behavior on the wife s part was considered to be a sign of
weakness in a man. A disobedient daughter also tainted a father s honor and diminished his
masculinity. A consequence of this was that a woman s body became a site of sexual violence to

percent of choir students pass English class? In elementary school, I was able to write and read
efficiently. However, my comprehension of what as I read as I got older was not as good as it
could have been. I was able to read books and understand the main points, but often I would
forget little details. My past few years in English have been successful and I have been able to
achieve many of the goals I have set for myself as an English student. In this paper, I will address

strengths in English are writing papers and doing hands on stuff. My weaknesses are
