3. NME
This is the back cover for a NME (New Musical Express)
which has Craig David as the main image crouching
down. He is wearing all black with white sole shoes.
They have used a grey background so then Craig David
stands out more. The two images at the top and
bottom are black and promoting his album and a
playlist on Spotify.
NME magazine’s demographic is 25 year old males in a
full time job and living in the UK. For the audience of
this magazine, it is modern, trendy males who enjoy
films and technology. However, the magazine targets
men aged 17-30 who is influenced by music, film and
technology.
The mast head is near Craig David in big black bold
text. As it is the back of the cover, it is the promotional
page. On top of the bottom image, there is text ‘Pre-
order the new album’ and then the album cover.
4. NME
The double page spread is about Stefflon Don. The
colour scheme continues from the first slide: black,
white, and grey. The only bit of colour there is Stefflon
Don’s hair which is pink. This makes Stefflon Don stand
out from the background,
There is no masthead with her name, just ‘million dollar
baby’ which is bold and white. From the urban
dictionary, million dollar baby means ‘a term of
endearment for a girl who may be ugly/fat/repulsive,
but who has enough money that you are willing to
overlook these defects.’ This shows that Stefflon Don
doesn’t have much confidence in herself even though
the quote near her head says ‘I want to make women
feel beautiful about themselves’ However, in this case
the article is talking about Stefflon Don looked good
and the fact she also signed her deal for a million
pounds.
The target audience for NME is 17-30 males. This article
will catch the audience’s attention as in her videos she
doesn’t wear much clothing and that will the male
5. DUA LIPA TOUR DATE &
T-SHIRT
The mast head of the tour date poster is the same as Dua
Lipa’s album cover and posters. This is to carry on with the
consistency. They have used a baby pink colour for the text
on a browny grey background. The colour scheme is very
feminine.
Dua Lipa’s image has been described as ‘bringing back the
90s’. By looking at all her album covers, you can tell that
they have evolved from more feminine to controversial. The
target audience will be young female adults.
The main image is of Dua Lipa herself, wearing a glittery
top with her hair slick back. Her make up is natural,
however she is in black and white. It creates a timeless
quality to have an image in black and white.
The typography is bold and sans serif. All the text is in
capitals so then the audience can see it clearly and it stands
out.
With the merchandise, it carries on the same text style and
a very similar image. This time she has got her hand resting
on her face. Her hair and make up look the exact same. This
time, they have used a black t-shirt and got the image of
6. MADONNA TOUR DATE &
T-SHIRT
This tour date poster is very different to others as it’s
very eye-catching. The colour scheme is red, black and
white. These colours aren’t vibrant. However, as the
main image is off Madonna who is said to be mad and
out-there, the colours and the pose she is in links in
with her personality.
The mast head is small but is in white so it still stands
out on the black background. The image of Madonna is
cracked like glass and mis-shaped her body which is
effective as it is different to other tour date posters.
Another thing that is different is that there are only two
dates on the poster rather than many. This shows how
exclusive she is by how many tours she is doing.
With the merchandise, the t-shirt is white with just her
eyes, nose and mouth. She has gold eye-shadow and
red sexy lipstick. The text underneath says ‘Bitch I’m
Madonna’. This carries on with her personality and the
font is different to the poster.
7. CAMILA CABELLO TOUR
DATE
I could not find Camila Cabello’s own tour date poster
which shows either she doesn't have a tour planned
yet or she isn’t wanting to do her own tour. So she has
joined in with Bruno Mars which was his world tour. The
colours on the poster are Bruno Mars colours
considering his tour is called 24K Magic. Her name is
written in a Gatsby style font.
The t-shirt is her merchandise with her song name on it
and her face. The word ‘Havana’ is where Cabello is
from and wrote this song after she left Fifth Harmony.
They have used very vibrant bright colours to stand out
on the audience’s person.
8. Very few colours have been used, this shows the simplicity. On this magazine the colours
are very natural. The connotations for the colour pink is femininity, love or calmness. When
you think of the colour green, your brain goes straight to being very fresh, relaxing and
peaceful. Also, the connotations for white is light and positive. This is why they have used
these colours so the audience feels chilled when they read it.
The background image is of a celebrity which immediately stands out. Miley Cyrus is
standing with her hands above her head in a kind of sultry pose. The celebrity is using
direct address by looking into the camera. This is a form of interaction as the audience
may feel connected with the image of the front cover. Miley is the main focus on the
magazine which is why they have used a simple background. The image show that she is a
new person as she is thankful for the end of her relationship with actor Liam Hemsworth.
The blobs are tiny, but they have used the colour white again for the text so then it stands
out from the green background. The blob is there to show the audience that there is more
articles and information going on inside the magazine.
They have used an elegant font for the cover line which is her name. They have also used a
darker pink so then it doesn’t clash with what the artist’s outfit and the colour of the masthead.
The ‘UNPLUGGED’ is bold and all in capitals so then it stands out more. The font goes from
elegant to bold. This will drag their audience in because they will want to know what they are
uncovering about Miley Cyrus. It gives the audience some brief information to what is the
article is going to be about.
All of Billboard’s magazines have the same style masthead which shows their work is
consistent. They have kept it the same with the colour scheme throughout the front cover
and used a light shade of pink. They have edited Miley Cyrus’ arm and made it so her arm is
on top of mast head, this is so the audience can see all of her. The mast head is huge and
takes up most of the left side up, this is so everyone will recognise it. Also, it is all in lower
case which shows they are informal.
At the top of the magazine they have used a
puff which says ‘DUMPSTER FYRE Inside the
festival fiasco of the century’. They have put
the first two words in capitals to emphasise
the festival. They also use the word ‘century’
which shows it’s going to be one in a million.
This gives another reason for their audience to
buy this particular magazine.

Main Image
As you can see there is no barcode on the magazine.
This could because of two reasons:
1) It could be on the back of the magazine
2) This magazine could be of internet use only
10. Masthead: They have used two different colours, hot pink for the word ‘girl’ to show the feminine side and then
black to show that you go from one colour that’s black to a more feminine colour when you’re a woman. There
is nothing fancy about the font that they have used. I think they wanted it to be bold and for the audience to be
able to see what it says without all the fancy writing.
Colour Themes: The
colours that have
been used are very
simple and plain.
They have used a
grey background
where they could
use any colour and
it would go. The
colours they have
chosen are very
bold choices.
Blobs: The little paragraph
explaining Miley Cyrus’ job role on
Disney. They haven’t written much
for the blob, I believe this is
because the double page spread
before the big article.
I think they haven’t
added in a cover line
because they
wanted to keep the
page simple and
didn’t want too
much happening
otherwise the
audience wouldn’t
know what to read
first.
Main Image: It is very clear to see that Miley Cyrus is the main focus
on this double page spread. By having one bold image makes it most
effective because it allows there to be one main focus on the page.
Another thing is the clothes Cyrus is wearing, it goes with the colour
scheme as she is wearing black clothing and then her hair is down so
we don’t know what kind of top she is wearing.
11. The colours that have been used on this are very seasonal. Loads of colours have been used such as
different shades of blue, greens, red, purple and white. Blues and greens are very natural colours
whereas red and purple are very eye catching. As there is that light blue in her dress which makes her
eyes stand out more.
Adele is even wearing a very light pink lipstick. All these colours link in with the cover line where they
have used the word ‘spring’. Behind Adele is a green pillow which doesn’t clash with the colours on her
dress. It still brings out the slight bit of green in her dress.
Adele is the main focus on this front cover for Vogue magazine. She is in sultry pose with her chest on
full show and her hand on her head where you can see her tattoo on her hand. The celebrity is using
direct address by looking into the camera. This is a form of interaction as the audience may feel
connected with the image of the front cover.
‘SPRING’S EXTRAORDINARY’ is put into bold and smaller than the word ‘CHANGE’ underneath which
clearly with attract their audience’s attention. The blob clearly links with in the celebrity on the main
image. It is all in big text near her head so the audience know that the article will be about her. They
have carried on with the consistency of having the top lines of the text in bold and then the bottom
text thinner. ‘VOGUE’ speaks words without reading the whole magazine.
Vogue keeps it regular by having the same masthead on all magazines. The colour of the word is white
and it never changes. They have placed the main image and the masthead in place so the audience can
still see Adele’s tattoo which says ‘angel’. Puff: At the bottom of the magazine it says ‘Will Hillary
Clinton make history?’ First of all, they have used a navy blank box to cover the bottom so then the text
wouldn’t blend in with her dress. Also, the text ‘Hillary Clinton’ is in bold whereas the rest of the text
isn’t. This gives emphasise on the name.
13. Main Image: A close up of Emma Watson on this Vogue double page. She is looking directly
into the camera. There is a clear contrast between Watson’s face and her lipstick. As you can
see her lipstick is bright red whereas her face is quite pale. The sticker on the net is kind of
mimicking Watson’s lips. There is a net on the lower part of her face. This could connote to
passion or sexuality which could also link to underwear.
Masthead: ‘Emma’ is in italics
font, this appears as
sophistication and classy. But,
her surname is shown in a
bold and big font in the
colour red. They have used
two different colours for the
masthead, this shows
contrast as the background is
white. It makes it stand out. It
shows the combination
between the red lips and the
text.
Colour Connotations:
Red - connotes to power, desire or love
White - connotes to goodness or innocence
Black - connotes to elegance, formality or mystery
Baby pink - connotes to sweet, romantic or feminine
Colour Themes: They have used the colours black, white, baby pink and
They have added three little
images at the side of the
magazine. There is a
consistent colour theme
throughout the whole
spread which has carried
on in the images. It images
stand out a lot as the
model is wearing black and
the background is white. As
the images are small, it
doesn’t take any attention
away from the article.
15. When I looked on the Billboard website, these images
popped out to me the most. I liked how Normani was
positioned in the images. Another aspect I liked was
the use of the room and her outfits. All her outfits are
different in each image and the background changes
too. I have chosen a variety of portrait and landscape
images which will help me when I create my own
photoshoot.
17. These images which are very different to Normani’s
photoshoot which is what I liked. The background setting
is outside and a few inside. The aspect I liked the most
was the us of props in the images. In my own
photoshoot, I haven’t thought about using props so it
could be interesting if I did.
18. AUDIENCE
Younger audience:
• Still at school
• Still living at home
• Most likely don’t have a job
• Probably get some pocket money off their
parents
• Influenced by their friendship group
Older audience:
• Buys tickets straight away after announced
• Camps outside the concert
• Stands outside the concert hours before
• Buys all the merchandise
• Argues with anyone who says something
different
For this audience, the usual type of girls are:
19. AUDIENCE
I have chosen 14+ as my audience for my project. I believe this is a perfect age range as I have areas for the younger
audience and the older audience. The younger audience will like the fact that a new singer has come around and has been
advertised for tours. This will influence them to become singers themselves when their older or to follow every movement
of the new singer. Project Lola is for the female gender, however, males are more than welcome to read the magazine too.
Project Lola is combined of a pop magazine cover and double page spread, a photography portfolio, merchandise (t-
shirts), tour date poster and maybe an interview. As there is a selection of different products, this is what will win my
audience over. If they are into photography then the portfolio will help them with their own work. Obviously the magazine
will have to aim for the younger audience so they actually buy the product. However, there contents may be more
approved by the older audience.
There will be different colours, fonts and styles included in all the project. I have already got many responses from my
interview which will help me out with Project Lola including the name of the project which I have taken off a ranking
scheme that the audience has put in order of which name for the singer they liked best. The psychographic is
achiever/emulator as they will follow Lola on her new adventure of becoming somebody famous. There are a few obvious
parts to my work as it cannot have any inappropriate language as the younger audience’s parents will not be happy. Lastly,
the social status for Project Lola will be ABC1 and C2DE as the older audience will be able to afford it and the younger
audience can use their pocket money/parents money. Another way this will be published is by social media.
28. SUMMARY
Firstly, the total of people was 24, 17 males and 7 females. This doesn’t help me as much considering my target audience I had chosen was
females. However, it wouldn’t be a major project as I could create a paper copy of an interview that I will be given to females only in this age
range. When it comes to the age range, it varied. Males aged under 18 to 44 had responded to this survey whereas females aged under 18 to 24
had answered.
In the survey one of the questions was ’which is your favourite artist and why?’ although this question had been interpreted differently by males as
in painters and the females haven’t. The two artists that had been named are Bridget Riley and Margaret Keane. Some of the males had answered
with artists like Cardi B, Celine Dion, Jess Glynne, Amy Winehouse and SZA etc. But when you look at the responses from the females, you can
clearly tell the older male audience had come up with responses such as Celine Dion, Amy Winehouse and a band named Bikini Kill who are a
group from 1990’s. With the females, they chose the new artist Billie Eilish, Sia and Miley Cyrus.
Next, the tour date posters, t-shirt designs and music magazines were between Dua Lipa, Madonna and Camila Cabello. For the both genders, the
most popular choice was Dua Lipa then second was Madonna. With the Dua Lipa poster, she has her hair is slick back but in a messy way with
natural make up as it looks like however, she is in black and white. Madonna’s tour date poster is her with a busty outfit with her arms behind her
head. It shows why it was second favourite with the males.
Furthermore, Camila Cabello was most popular for both genders and second was Madonna. More males preferred the Madonna t-shirt design
than females as on the t-shirt it says ‘Bitch I’m Madonna’ with Madonna’s top lip lifted up in a sultry, sexy or cheeky way. Her eye lids are squinted
which carries on with the sultry look. With Camila Cabello’s t-shirt design she has messy hair, looking to the side and appears to look like she isn’t
wearing anything.
Additionally, for the music magazine Dua Lipa was more popular with the males and second was Camila Cabello. With the females, Camila Cabello
got most liked. I tried to choose the same music magazine which was NME. In the Dua Lipa magazine she is wearing a mesh top which has

I have drawn this structure from
researching other tour date
posters. The one that inspired me
the most is the Dua Lipa one. I
think it well organised and will suit
the look of the rest of work too.
35. GET THE LOOK
From this video is where I
got one of my inspirations
from called Cindy
Kimberly. This woman in
the video recreates
famous models looks. I
got hooked on when she
recreated a look from
Cindy Kimberly and it
looked quite snazzy. Then
I decided to have a look
on her Instagram and
found some images on
there that really inspired
me for my own my work.
36. DRESS LIKE A MODEL
This one is about
different styles and what
to pair with what. This
will help with my work as
it shows me what goes
with what really well.
There is a variety of
different clothing.
37. FOUR PHOTOGRAPHERS
This video is about four
photographers using the same
model but changing the location
and outfit depending on the
photographer. I was very inspired
with this as it showed the different
locations and how each
photographer used it differently
and how well the outfit went.
Another aspect I have got from is
the model who is Sydney J Harper. I
had a look at her Instagram and
really inspired me to take some
ideas from her.
