Front cover deconstructions for a pop music magazine

2. Justin Bieber is a popular singer
songwriter who most people
enjoy seeing or listening to.
Justin is a famous singer which
also means he is well known.
On this cover Justin is the main
image which will attract their
intended target audience. His
clothing is the typical guy singer
clothes which show part of his
personality. This artist is
interesting so when I make my
own magazine I will ensure that
it appeals to my target
audience.
The masthead is partly covered by Justin
Bieber’s head however this does not stop
the magazine being unnoticed. Billboard is a
well known magazine which means it will
still be recognized. The masthead for
Billboard has the ‘b’ filled in with a red, the
‘a’ is filled in with blue and the ‘d’ is filled in
with yellow so with part of it missing, it is
clear that it will be the ‘b’ behind his head.
There are multiple cover lines on
the front cover which also give an
idea of what will be on the
contents page which would then
be throughout the magazine.
These allow the audience to have
an insight as to what’s inside.
When I create my own I will add
cover lines to make the audience
more interested to read my
magazine.
The colour scheme throughout this
isn’t many colours however they all
match with each other and there
are no colour clashes. This is good
as it gives a range of things to look
out and it makes the more
important information stand out.
The bigger writing for the masthead
and the name of the celebrity is
white but as it is onto a bright blue
colour it stands out more to show
my main parts. The yellow and red
colours for the cover lines make
them stand out however the size is
smaller as they are not the most
important stories being advertised
onto the front cover. The
background colour goes from a
bright blue colour at the top but as
the page goes down the colour gets
darker until the very bottom where
it reaches a dark blue/black colour.
There are 2 quotes on the page, one
which is relating to Justin Bieber
‘Everything I do I do to be the
greatest’ and another general one
‘Who’s next: Morrison Hendrix?’.
These give another insight into what
stories are about and what people
have said about these stories.
The chain that Justin Bieber is wearing around his neck symbolizes male jewellery and
the way he is holding it shows that he likes it. When I create my own magazine, if any
jewellery is on my models it will be related to females as my models are female.

3. The colour scheme doesn’t really
have a range however having the one
pink colour gives a girly feeling to it.
There are hints of other colours like
the reds, yellows, pinks and greens
on her dress for the flowers. There
are hints of red, blue and yellow on
the masthead too which applies for
the general design of the magazine
name. The bold black writing of
‘Billboard’ and ‘Katy Perry’ make it
stand out especially as it is against a
lighter coloured background. Some of
the cover lines are in yellow and
white just to advertise other stories
which would be inside.
The main image is
Katy Perry which
attracts most
younger readers as
she is a popular
singer. Her clothing
is a dress which
shows that she
herself is quite girly
especially with the
flowers on it which
could represent her
personality and what
she likes.
The masthead is bold and in
black to make it stand out.
This is also the biggest writing
on there due to the fact that it
is the name of the magazine.
The cover lines are added onto
the front cover to advertise
what else will be in the
magazine. It allows people to
have a general idea of the things
which will be in there. When I
create my own, I will make sure
that there are other interesting
stories as well as the main one
which get the audience
engaged.
There is an issue
number and date/year
on the magazine which
allows the audience to
know whether it is a
recent issue or not. This
ensures that the
audience are up to date
with their magazines.

4. A puff is included on
this front cover in a
bright yellow line to
make it stand out. This
means there is an
exclusive being
advertised which the
audience would be
excited in. It starts
with big bold black
letters ‘DON’T MISS!
Which will catch the
audiences eye.
The masthead is covered by Miley Cyrus’
head however like said in my previous
deconstructions, the audience still know
the name of the magazine due to the fact of
it being a good selling magazine.
Miley Cyrus is the main
image due to the fact that
there must be a story that
relates to her however
she is the main image
because she is a popular,
singer songwriter and
actress. Miley is well
noticed with the younger
generation therefore this
is what interests them.
Having her hold the ‘M’
represents the first letter
of her name. This could
have been included so it
captures the audiences
eyes.
There are 4 cover
lines which give a
little hint about the
other stories which
are inside the
magazine. This
attracts the
audience and gives
them an overview
of the types of
articles included.
There is a strapline
underneath ‘Miley Cyrus’
which is a kind of
subheading for what the
story on Miley will be
about. It has a rhetorical
question at the end ‘But will
her fans follow?’ which gets
people thinking about what
it could be about.
