2. The colour red is significant as it
emphasises the word ‘lust’, lust is
often conveyed with the feeling of love
and sexuality. This conveys with the
public image of Lana Del Rey as she
is portrayed as a voice for women,
some of her songs are very sexual so
its fits in with the whole theme.
I would also say that the font of this
fits in with this theme of being lustful,
the text is fancy and swirly and gives
the element of being pristine.
The big L of lust fits in with the L in
Lana, this adds more emphasis on her
name, and becomes symbolic of her.
The use of white space around the image
brings your attention more to the image in the
middle, the effect makes your eyes go straight
to the image- As the image is front on you get
eye contact from Lana which would make it
stand out on a shelf more. The white border is
simplistic which connotes Lana as she is very
simple and to the point with her music.
The layout of the front of this digipak is very
simple, very test and a image. Which also then
reinstates the meaning of this album. It isn’t
About being extravagant its about the songs.
The image on the front challenges the title as the title is about lust
and in the image Lana looks very innocent and pure in the image,
the colour white is very prominent as its what she’s wearing and
that usually connotates purity and innocence. It’s very
controversial to the title of the song and the bright colours of red
that appear on top.
Flowers are also seen as a new burst of life and a new beginning. Which
contrasts to the song, the fact that they are white also adds emphasis. But
this fits in with Lana’s brand identidy as she is often seen wearing white in
her music videos. The red also fits in with the theme of her identity.
The truck behind is very
important to her indie style of
music, as it fits in with the
stereotypical sight of a indie
artist, the same with the flowers,
looking a bit hippy.
3. The three images also the top convey Lana’s brand identity,
the fits carry on with the white theme, although in this image
she's in front of the black background. This makes Lana
stand out more and become the centre of the image. Her
facial expression is very neutral and she isn’t looking at the
camera like she is on the front cover. She seems almost
mellow and calm. The colour white reinforces her purity and
sort of innocence, this is also structured by the look on her
face, she seems almost puzzled. Which connotes this sort of
innocence, which subverts what her music is about.
The other two images fit in with the idea of the American
dream, based in California they fit in with Lana’s identidy in
her music videos. All the images have this sort of washed,
glazed effect. They’re look like they have this sort of purple/
pink effect over them.
The red CD covers follow on from the front of the Digipak.
The same text is carried over and is used as a brand identity
for Lana. The only thing different is that the colours have
switched, the text is now white and the cover red, it still
conveys the same meanings of purity and lust/ sexuality.
The inside of the Digipak is very simple, its more about the
music then anything. The colours have been kept very basic
and the ones used a reinforced, this is to construct a brand
identity so when u see the red on the front you instantly think of
Lana Del Rey.
4. The type of image is carries the same throughout, with Lana in a white dress
and flowers in her hair. The dress almost looks like a wedding dress as its long
and lacy. This could connote something about marriage in the music or love.
Not only lust. The same colours have been carried throughout the digipak.
The same font has also been used throughout the digipak, all this together
creates her brand identity. Majorly the colours create her brand. With the
image you get a face on image, so she is looking directly as the camera, this
means she can get more of a connection to her audience.
One of the key conventions of the digipak is the barcode at the bottom so it
can actually be sold. There is also the production company down the bottom
and who all the rights belong to, this is crucial as without it wouldn’t actually be
a digipak.
The layout is very similar throughout even on the different pages, this also
helps to create a brand identity.
