Community Emergency Preparedness and Response Paper
Community Emergency Preparedness and Response Paper Kimberly Lewis NUR 408 May 7, 2012
Theresa White, MSN Community Emergency Preparedness and Response Paper Preparing for an
emergency and knowing what to do in case of an emergency is an important aspect every community
should know. Preparedness can be the difference between life and death in certain situations. This is
the case in Season two Episode five of this week s assignment. A forest fire is raging out of control
near the Neighborhood for five days. Resident s are developing respiratory and problems related to the
fire s proximity to the city. As with any disaster, communities need to have a plan of action and be
ready to put the plan in action for the safety of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nurse Karen advises patients with respiratory diseases to stay indoors to avoid any respiratory irritants
the fire is causing. Many of the public health care teams in Neighborhood were playing catch up after
the fire had been raging for days. The hospital in Neighborhood failed to call a code yellow. Initiating
a code yellow would have alerted the emergency response team to action to help accommodate the
influx of patients the health care facilities were facing. Because of the failure to call the code yellow,
the staff is overworked and is causing added stress on the hospital staff on the floor, the emergency
room, and throughout the hospital. If a state of emergency were called, more staff as well as room for
patients would have been made available, thus decreasing stress the staff is feeling. Because the forest
fire was raging out of control close to the city, the science fair should have either been canceled or
rescheduled until the fire was put out and the threat gone. Public service announcements should have
been broadcast alerting residents of the fire and the health hazards they could face. Residents should
have been warned to stay indoors and to only go outside if necessary. Luckily, most residents stayed
indoors, or else there would have been an even larger number of patients in the emergency room.
Public Health Agencies Forest fires not only cause medical conditions to exacerbate but also can

We ve Got The Dirt On Guy Brains By Dave Barry
In Dave Barry s article We ve Got the Dirt on Guy Brains and the Deborah Tannen s Sex, Lies, and
Conversation , the authors discussed the difference between men and women in terms of specific
issues. However, their opinions of what reasons have led to certain differences diverged. This essay
aimed at providing a detailed examination of both articles by comparing some of the points. First of
all, I will discuss the shared point of both articles regarding the differences of men and women. Then
the I will move on taking about the major different opinions the two authors held. Once these have
been done, a brief examination of the the evidence in both articles. Although Barry and Tannen have
taken different approaches to examine the differences between men and women, as Barry s point was
based on housework while Tannen s discussion mainly focused on communication, it should be noted
that both of them agreed on the opinion that men and women are quite different from each other,
especially in terms of emotions and feeling. Barry and Tannen pointed out that women are more
inclined to share their feelings and emotions while men are not. In Barry s article, he has been quite
specific about this point by saying that some women (and here I am referring to my wife) can share as
many as three days worth of feelings about an event that take eight seconds to actually happen. We
men, on the other hand, are reluctant to share our feelings, in large part because we often don t have

Slavery In Colonial Latin America
The institution of slavery was a big part of life in colonial Latin America. According Henry Louis
Gates, Jr., 11.2 million slaves were imported to the Americas from Africa between 1502 and 1866.
Most of the slaves were transported to the Caribbean and Latin America. In fact, Brazil got a total of
about 4.8 million slaves (Black in LA). The working and living conditions for slaves were horrific. So
many slaves were imported specifically because slaves were expendable. Slave holders could afford to
undernourish their slaves due to the slave market. Slaves were in high demand in colonial Latin
America. Some slaves resisted their enslavement by running away to form quilombos, or maroon
communities. According to Thomas Gage, cimarrones, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Niccolo Machiavelli s The Prince
Machiavelli wrote The Prince in 16th century. His methods of acquiring and maintaining rule over
people are not relevant in today s modern American society. There are many principles that are still
true in politics today, but the methods of ruling can no longer be used in American society today.
Niccolò Machiavelli was born in Florence, Italy in 1496. He was a diplomat in Italy s Florentine
Republic for fourteen years. This was during the Medici family exile, and when they returned,
Machiavelli was dismissed and shortly imprisoned. After he was released, he wrote The Prince. It was
written as a handbook for politicians to follow and is considered the most famous book on politics
ever written. Machiavelli is known as the father of modern political theory. He died in 1527 in
Florence, Italy.
In The Prince, Machiavelli describes the different methods of acquiring the power over a state. The
first he mentions is if the principalities are acquired through one s own arms and virtue. They acquire
their principality with difficulty but hold it with ease. (23) The second, Of New Principalities That Are
Acquired by Others Arms and Fortune. (25) Someone gives these to the prince either for money or by
the favor of whoever gave it. Those who become princes from private individual solely by fortune
become so with little trouble, but maintain themselves with much. (25) The next, Of Those Who Have
Attained a Principality through Crimes. (34) Acquired through crime, the states

The Basic Functions Of Management
Management Management is defined as the process of coordinating people, and other resources to
achieve the goals of an organization. Management consists of a variety of things and very active job
and duty. Management includes knowing basic management function, what types of managers there
are, skill sets required to be a manager, leadership quality, and decision making. Altogether these
different sections are taken in a much broader perspective diving into the four main resources of
management which consists of material resource, human resource, financial resource, and
informational resources. Through these different parts of the management system, each different part
will be looked at in depth and detail. Starting with what the basic ... Show more content on

This is just the start of what managers can use to implement change and randomly place into their
firms work order. Planning and organizing are not on a schedule.
Thirdly of the basic management of functions is leading and motivating. Working in a management
system, these things are kept to keeping a happy and respectable work environment. Leading is
defined as the process of influencing people to work toward a common goal, as motivating is
providing reasons for people to work. Kristine Tucker from small business stated Lead by example if
you are the manager who is lazy and accomplishes nothing, employees will follow. This is of great
importance to understand when in a manager position because as a manager it is of that person to be
the example
Lastly, of the basic management functions is controlling. What this means is as a manager there is
always evaluating and regulating going on in the work environment, to ensure that all goals achieved.
Carter McNamara wrote, Delegation is an approach to get things done, in conjunction with other
employees. And continued to say Performance reviews provide an opportunity for supervisors and
their employees to regularly communicate about goals, how well those goals should be met, how well
the goals are being met and what must be done to continue to meet (or change) those

Kangxi s Valedictory Edict
Emperor Kangxi: Valedictory Edict Emperor Kangxi was considered and still is thought of as one of
the greatest emperors in Chinese history. Kangxi s reign was longer than that of any other ruler in
Chinese history. One of his most notable achievements was uniting China after the turmoil upon the
collapse of the Ming. A main reason for the Chinese granting him the mandate of heaven or granted
the right to rule China from permission of the heavens was his knowledge and respect for Chinese
heritage and culture. Emperor Kangxi recorded a Valedictory Edict in December twenty third, 1717 as
an attempt to display sincere thoughts of what he believed it takes to be a virtuous ruler. Kangxi wrote
the Edict to reveal his deepest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the Valedictory Edict Kangxi views death positively and as a relief from the everyday grind of
virtuously ruling an empire. One of his most virtuous traits is he does not fear death and is comforted
by the idea of relief from the responsibility of his reign through death once his sovereignty as a
virtuous ruler is completed. One of Kangxi s great tasks left to be finished is who is to succeed him.
He views this as a great issue, and as a good emperor cannot neglect it. Kangxi understands the weight
of his decision and I believe he truly wants what is best for China. The issue of an heir seems to be on
the forefront of his mind and this dilemma weighs heavily on his conscience. Kangxi states he wrote a
letter indicating his intention for an heir, but does not go into detail in his Valedictory Edict. There is a
record that Kangxi s son Yinreng was disinherited in 1708. There are stories that emperor Kangxi
heard from his officials, that when touring the country, Yinreng would recruit young men and women
as personal sex slaves as part of a major molestation scandal. This deeply saddened Kangxi and, while
on his death bed, reportedly appointed Yinzhen; Emperor Kangxi s fourth son. Yinzhen s claim to the
throne was highly controversial and heavily disputed because Yinzhen and his followers were only

Claudius as Evil in Hamlet by William Shakespeare Essay
The abstract concept of evil has vastly transformed throughout human history, ranging for the
supernatural and mystical to the very humans amongst whom we live. In modern times, evil has
become an entirely ambiguous term. Who is evil? What is evil? Men like Adolph Hitler and Saddam
Hussein have been garnered with the term ‘evil for their atrocities against fellow humans. Now it
seems evil has a solely human significance; when a person violates the individual rights of others on a
massive scale, he/she is evil. In Shakespeare s time – the Elizabethan era – evil had a similar, but
somewhat altered connotation in the human mind. Evil was an entity that violated the English
Christian monarchial tradition. Therefore, a man such as Claudius, ... Show more content on

Gertrude could not be persuaded to switch husbands without a little verbal trickery on Claudius part,
and that turns out to be his true skill: lying convincingly. Claudius manages to legitimize his ascent to
the throne by diverting popular attention, away from the circumstances of his ascent, and to the
impending attack by the young Fortinbras (I.ii.1 20). Claudius propensity towards fabrications is in
direct violation with the Holy Commandment Thou shalt not bear false witness; hence, he violates one
of the pillars of Christian moral law. Claudius lies are effective enough to persistently deceive to play
s antagonist, Hamlet. Despite Hamlet s disgust with Claudius for marrying Gertrude, and his view of
Claudius as a king of shreds and patches (III.iv.104), Hamlet suspicion of Claudius as a murderer is
preliminarily nonexistent. The appearance of a spirit claiming to be Hamlet s dead father first alerts
Hamlet to the actions of that incestuous, that adulterate beast, /With witchcraft of his with, with
traitorous gifts (I.v.42 3). And yet still, Hamlet remains hesitant to believe that Claudius was the
murderer, searching for complementary evidence. The play that Hamlet enacts designed to catch the
conscience of the king (II.ii.562) succeeds in revealing Claudius guilt, but does not provoke instant

The Yugoslavian Conflict
Yugoslavia is a country burdened by feuding sides in a war that cannot soon be resolved. The United
Nations are attempting to help the situation, but until the people of Yugoslavia can come to an
agreement continued warfare and heartache is inevitable.
The problems in Yugoslavia began because the country is separated into two distinct parts. The north
and west parts of the country were once under the rule of the Austro Hungarian Empire, and the south
and the east were controlled by the Ottoman Empire. This had extreme effects on the ethnic, cultural
and economic differences between the two sides. The three major religions in Yugoslavia were Greek

Difference Between The Aeneid And The Iliad
Regardless of the time frame, Virgil s Aeneid and Homer s epic the Iliad share both a copious amount
of similarities and differences. For example, many common themes such as heroism, fate, and destiny
are apparent in both works. Within the Aeneid and the Iliad, it is seen that the wars going on during
that time were glorious that is why the role of gods were significant in leading both Aeneas and
Achilles and influencing fate. In both texts, it is clear from the beginning that the role of the gods is to
make Aeneas and Achilles fulfill their journey The Iliad focuses on the end of the Trojan War and the
damaging power, while the Aeneid is focused during the aftermath of the war and underlies the
foundation for the new civilization. This paper will address and argue the comparison of the role of
gods and how each of the authors representation of the gods have influence on the lives of mortals. In
both the Aeneid and the Iliad their main characters were chosen by gods because they have gained
favor. Aeneas and Achilles were chosen because they were destined to fulfill a journey. The gods in
both works directed the lives of mortals, but, were also very specific on who they would help. The
gods determined the destiny of the mortals. Achilles and Aeneas are similar in the sense that they have
become favorable in the eyes of the gods, partially because of their divine nepotism but also because
they stand out from ordinary men by having a great military and physical prowess.

Reasons of Conspiracy Essays
Reasons of Conspiracy People come up with crazy ideas all the time, many of which are torn apart by
scientific evidence. However, some ideas are crafted so precisely and detailed; they are accepted as
fact by millions of people. These alternatives to accepted history are known as Conspiracy Theories,
and the people who create them are of a special breed. It is difficult to imagine having the time and
passion to craft an alternative reason behind many of the world s events and tragedies, but these
people are born to do so. There is a specific recipe for such a person, a carefully crafted powerful

Before the discussion if furthered, it is important to lay down the basics of who really is a conspiracy
theorist. By Conspiracy Theorist , it is meant to reference a person who has spent at least ten years of
their life to the ideas which counter those of larger accepted organizations (ex: Government). These
persons must have published at least two books about their topics and must have some sort of mass
following and audience. According to PBS, a Conspiracy Theorist is: someone who postulates on the
existence of secret agreements between two or more people or government to perform unlawful acts.
(PBS: Strange Days) that definition is what will be used in conjunction with the stated qualifications

many factors that influence one to become interested in devoting ones life to counter history. It is
possible to deeply research the personal background of a large number of conspiracy theorists, but due
to time and general interest, I will not be completing such a task. The ones who are discussed are those
who had readily available information/ responded to the questionnaire that was sent (a total of three

Berger And Berreby Analysis
According to David Berreby, humanities are simply unlike anything else found in nature (par. 24).
Human behavior is so complex that sometimes everyday interactions by humans seem unreal when
studied more in depth. John Berger and David Berreby both discuss how humans view other humans.
Berger claims that humans, especially women, are seen solely as objects or sights. However, although
Berreby claims that humans have subconscious impressions of one another, he would likely disagree
that humans are seen as objects, instead seeing deeper, meaningful human connection within one
another.
Throughout Ways of Seeing, John Berger uses European oil paintings and art to describe the
relationship between women and men and the way that men view women. The entire chapter focuses
primarily on a women s body, how her body is surveyed by men, and how this causes the women to
also survey herself. When first introducing the relationship between men and women, Berger clarifies
women are an object of vision, stating,
One might simplify this by saying: men act and women appear. Men look at women. Women ... Show

Berger s use of European paintings of naked women demonstrate the way women are being seen as
material items instead of something deeper with more substance. Berreby s use of research studies
demonstrate how it has become a part of human nature to find somewhere to belong and something
relatable to identify with. This has lead to the elimination of judgments and the increase of more
connection and understanding between humans. Most importantly, Berger and Berreby both express
the importance of seeing other humans and the realization that the behavior of the human mind simply
seems unreal sometimes. As humans, we are called to view others, but we are called to move past
initial impressions and focus on finding common ground and

Tomato ( Solanum Lycopersicum )
[1] Background According to Kimura and Sinha (2008), tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) is one of the
most important vegetable plants around the world, as it s produced in disparate areas like south
western America and Africa. It is also considered the second most abundant horticultural product after
the potato. Perveen et al. (2015), stated that, currently, there are thirteen recognized wild tomato
species which allows a great diversity in the phenotypes. The tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) is an
important source for disparate essential compounds such as folic acid, carotenoids, and potassium.
Due to its widely use; not only as a food but also as a perfect material which can be used in research to
treat serious and devastating diseases as certain types of cancers (melanoma skin cancer and breast
cancer), cardiovascular diseases and photo aging (Liu et el., 2012). The use of it in such important
researches returns to its anti oxidant activity which arises from the carotenoids pigments it contains
like alpha carotene, beta carotene, and lycopene (Dorais et el., 2008). Tomato contains a lot of
compounds which have a high benefits for health, and also for its wonderful flavor which is used in
our daily food as a flavor during cooking. The question here is what is the compound which plays an

discrimination even if that means sacrificing some of your free speech on the college campus. A New

enthusiastic about government bans on forms of speech they find particularly offensive. So yes,
millennials are very iffy on free speech if you ask

The Carnivalesque Role of the Fool in Twelfth Night and...
Twelfth Night and The Servant of Two Masters both relate to this course s theme of the carnivalesque.
Both plays share the commonality of having a clown, or a fool; in Twelfth Night it is Feste or the Fool,
and in The Servant of Two Masters it is Truffaldino. Both characters play the fool in contrasting ways
to express similar yet different forms of the carnivalesque. During carnival, laughter is prominent;
people are laughing together, they are laughing at each other, and they are being laughed at. The
laughter of carnival is both malicious and happy and everyone is included in it. Feste and Truffaldino
show the different aspects of carnival laughter through their portrayals of the fool. Feste plays the role
of the artificial fool ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Truffaldino is too immersed in the action of the play to even notice the laughter of others. Because he
is so wrapped up in what is going on, he isn t able to stop and notice that everyone is laughing at him.
This is clearly shown in the dinner scene. Truffaldino is so busy trying to serve both masters that he
misses the other waiters making fun of him and he misses how foolish he looks running back and forth
from Beatrice s room to Florindo s room stuffing food in his mouth in between (Goldoni 129 134).
Feste and Truffaldino both take part in trickery in their respective plays. Their motives behind doing
the tricks show the different ways that each character plays the fool. Feste participates in the scheme
against Malvolio by attempting to drive him insane by dressing up as Sir Topas and speaking
nonsense. In response to Malvolio complaining that it is dark in the room, Feste says Why, it hath bay
windows transparent as barricadoes, and the clerestories toward the south north are as lustrous as
ebony. And yet complainest thou of obstruction? (Shakespeare 4.2.34 36) Feste tells Malvolio that the
room has two small windows that are as clear to see out of as if looking out of stone and that the
windows facing south north are as clear as ebony. It makes no sense. Feste contributes to this prank
out of revenge. Malvolio had wronged him in the past: I was one, sir, in this interlude, one Sir

Theme Of Hope And Despair By Douglas Coupland
Hope is stronger than despair. The short story by Douglas Coupland contains 2 major themes: hope
and despair. Although despair is mentioned a plethora of times, hope is much more overriding. Hope is
the sole reason why the narrator has never lost the sensation of always being on the brink of some
magic revelation (p.1). He then goes on saying that if only I would look closely enough at the world,
then that magic revelation would be mine. This line shows that the narrator still believes there is a
chance for him to get closure about what had happened recently (p.2). Also, his mom says people like
birds because they free us from the unique sorrow of being human (p.2). However, the narrator
disagrees with her despair and says that birds

Observation On Observation
You can answer the following questions. After observing at different schools and possibly different
grades,
1. Do you still want to become a teacher? Why or why not?
After doing my observations, I still want to become a teacher. Going into this class, initially I was
hesitant and unsure if I wanted to pursue teaching, but after one full day of observing a kindergarten
class I am sure this is what I want to do with my life. Seeing the children so excited to learn really
made me happy, and I want to be able to encourage that excitement in children myself. I think
teaching is a very important job, and thought it is a little scary how much responsibility the career is, I
think I am up to the task. I would love to be able to know I am helping the world by teaching children
and giving them knowledge they can use in life, and encouraging them to learn academics and about
the real world so they can grow up and be successful adults and citizens. I really love working with
children, and I think I would enjoy teaching them what they need to know.
2. Do you still want to teach the grade you originally chose from the beginning of the semester?
Explain. If you did not have a chosen grade, do you have a better idea? Explain.
I still definitely want to teach elementary school, preferably kindergarten, 1st, or 2nd grade. I was also
slightly considering high school (my sister teaches high school and keeps trying to convince me to
teach high school as well), but after observing a high school class, I know I for sure want to stick with
elementary school. I think I work very well with children and that I could be more successful teaching
small kids, rather than teenagers. I also prefer to be with one set of kids all day, rather than 5 or more
sets of kids for an hour every day. I think it would be difficult for me to get used to having too many
sets of kids, so one set would be the best for me, and I think I could be more helpful to the children if I
was only with one set of kids all day long. I also like that in elementary school the teacher is
responsible for teaching all subjects and can create lesson plans so all the subjects relate to each other,
which I would love to do. I don t have one subject I prefer over others, so I

Immigration Reform In Arizona
Introduction Back in 2007 there were several concerns over immigration as a whole and exploding
proportions of illegal immigrants crossing the border in the Arizona area. Arizona attempted to resolve
the influx of people across the border by imposing heavy fines on employers hiring illegal immigrants.
At that time in Arizona there was a democratic governor Janet Napolitano that continually vetoed the
Arizona s legislature attempt to reduce illegal immigration. In 2009 the state replaced the Democratic
governor with a Republican governor Jan Brewer who was supportive of reforms for immigration in
Arizona. In 2010 the immigration problem was so sever that Arizona passed legislation allowing the
state to enforce federal law for identification of legal immigration into the United States. This sparked
a nation wide discussion on illegal immigration and immigration reform. The problem with
immigration is that the federal government has failed to control immigrants coming into the U.S.
illegally. This has caused a substantial increase in illegal immigration that threatens the U.S. economy.
There continues to be uncertainty on how to approach the legalized immigration into the U.S. The
federal government has attempted since 1975 to enact laws that resolve the issue but the laws continue
to fall short of fixing the problem. One of the democratic approaches to solve the problem is to give
all illegal immigrants citizenship unless they are not in good standings within

Abuse of Power in Doubt, by John Patrick Shanley
Power is earned, not given. There are many different types of power that people can earn. Power
becomes a problem when it is not questioned or tested. Therefore, the one with the power would have
total control over anything or anyone they wanted, or they would feel that way. People with power feel
invincible when it is not questioned. Throughout history it has been proven that this creates a problem.
For example, Richard Nixon and the Watergate scandal is similar to the scandal with Father Flynn in
Doubt. Doubt, by John Patrick Shanley, exemplifies an underlying message that unquestioned faith
leads to abuse of power. Specifically, shown in Father Flynn s reputation, cover up, and resignation,
which all correlate to Richard Nixon s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the election of 1972, Nixon won by over sixty percent of the votes and won all states except
Massachusetts against George McGovern ( The History Place... ). This is one of the biggest landslides
in U.S. Presidential election history. In January 1973, Richard Nixon s approval rating was sixty seven
percent, which is relatively high compared to current president Barack Obama s forty seven percent
and many other Presidents before him ( The History Place... ). Therefore, he had a great reputation and
was in the highest possible position, the leader of the free world, just like Father Flynn was in his
parish. Richard Nixon also had a very positive relationship with members of the White House. For
example, members of the White House were caught breaking in and violating the law to get President
Nixon re elected ( The History Place... ). Abuse of power comes from a high reputation that is
unquestioned.
When one s unquestioned reputation is being attacked one often feels obligated to make a plan to
cover up accused actions to save their reputation. When Sister Aloysius first accuses Father Flynn of
having an inappropriate relationship with Donald Muller he responds, Happened? Nothing happened. I
had a talk with the boy. (32). Finally, Father Flynn says he did have some interaction with Donald
after denying it for a while, but he still clearly states nothing happened. Father Flynn ends the
conversation by saying, I don t wish to continue this conversation at all further. And if

Lab Report On The Reaction Time
Nicholas Durazo
KINE2202 section 002
Lab Report 1
Introduction
The reaction time (RT) of students was measured in the experiment to determine whether light or
sound stimulus initiates a quicker response time. The question of whether or not RT was related to
movement time (MT) was also challenged. Each student performed two test in random order; one
testing the reaction time of a red light stimulus, or visual reaction time (VRT); and the other testing the
reaction time of a beeping sound stimulus, or auditory reaction time (ART). The student completed the
VRT trial by simply receiving the stimulus and pressing a button. The student placing and holding
their hand on a button starts the ART trial. Once the student receives the stimulus (beep) they press the
adjacent button as fast as they can. The ART trial does not only include the data of the RT, but also the
data from the MT. Having previous knowledge that light travels faster than sound; one can predict that
VRT is faster than ART. The prediction that MT is independent upon RT can be made with the thought
that there are so many opposing variables that could affect the MT of an individual unrelated RT such
as old age
Methods
In the experiment, 80 students were randomly separated into groups of 2 to write down the data from
the test for the other individual. The VRT was measured by pressing a button once the student had
seen the stimulus. The reaction time data would simply show up on the screen once the student
completed

A Fundamental Advantage Of Ecs Adjustment For Effective...
A fundamental advantage of ECS adjustment for effective dynamic thermal storage is that it is
relatively easy to implement. Conventional air conditioning and thermostats are designed to perform
in slow control loops, on time scales of minutes. ECS adjustment can use time scale separation and
stay away from this effective dc loop action. In this sense, an ac feed forward signal is injected into a
drive to adjust power flow on fast time scales, while avoiding interference on slow time scales. The
average performance of the ECS system remains intact, and the fast adjustment is transparent to users.
Fig. 2 displays this implementation control. Bandpass filtered varying power must be applied with

A few recent papers [53] [56] have demonstrated a virtual synchronous machine (VSM) concept,
particularly for microgrid applications and usually for distributed generators utilizing the same ac dc
ac conversion stages. The same concept applied on flywheel based energy storage is discussed in [57].
Given the similarities existed in the MEA power grid and motor controlled thermal storage, it is
deemed feasible to implement the VSM concept in this research. A high level description is shown in
Fig. 3. For a synchronous machine in the rotating reference frame, the d q voltage and current
relationship is shown in (1a b), where vg is the grid voltage, R is the stator resistance, M is the
magnetizing, and Ld = Lq = L is assumed. On the other hand, the active front end (i.e., the hex bridge
converter connected to the gird) follows (2a b) in d q reference frame at ωc rotating speed, where Rg
and Lg are grid tied resistance and inductance, and vc is the output voltage at the converter controlled
by modulation index from the dc voltage bus []. The analogy between (1a b) and (2a b) is
straightforward. By equating the first three terms and varying the modulation indices, md and mq, the
active front end mimics the VSM proposed in [ZhongQC]. The purpose of the ac motor tied inverter
(i.e., the left hex bridge converter in Fig. 3) is to main a constant 270 V dc bus by adjusting the motor
speed and torque using conventional vector controls. Given the limited

The Importance Of Maintaining The Correct Acid Base Balance
The importance of maintain the correct acid base balance in the body is crucial for a healthy lifestyle.
Human bodies are very sensitive to pH levels and must be maintained to prevent any health issues.
The term pH means potentials oh hydrogen. To function properly our blood pH is regulated at 7.4. The
degree of acidity or alkalinity is referred to as the acid base balance. The acidity levels increase when
the acidic compounds in the blood increase of the alkaline compounds in the blood fall. Alkalinity
increases when the reverse occurs. The levels of alkaline and acidic compounds depend on the body s
intake, production or decreased elimination or vice versa. If the pH rises or falls increasingly the body
s proteins and enzymes can denature and stop functioning. This can cause serious diseases such as
cancers or even death. Therefore, our body has essential mechanisms in place to regulate the pH of our
blood.
Regulating acid base balance:
The main functions of the body that deal with maintaining acid base balance are the buffer, renal and
respiratory systems.
Buffer System:
Normal metabolism produces hydrogen in the form of acids; to maintain the pH of the blood the acids
are buffered or removed from the body. A buffer works in a pair, a weak acid is activated when the pH
is at risk from a strong base/ a weak base is activated when the pH is at risk from a strong acid.
Whenever the buffer reaction is carried out the concentration of one of the pairs increases while the

Housing Persuasive Speech
Today, I am going to speak about the affordable housing in Pittsburgh .First let me tell about why the
affordable housing is preferred. People who live in affordable housing today want safe, decent housing
for the same reasons that we all do. The reasons are mainly to provide a nurturing environment to raise
their children. Another reason is to remain in the community where they were raised or to become part
of a community in which they want to settle. Finally, to live in an attractive, safe environment that
they can afford. People who need affordable housing are ones that are employed as secretaries, school

The completed Eastside and Bond apartment complex in East Liberty is perched directly above the

how city living can be extremely beneficial to residents of any income bracket: great public transit
access, close to grocery stores, and quality living conditions.
Unfortunately for Pittsburghers of lower and middle income means, living in Eastside and Bond isn t

a group of affordable housing advocates are upset about it.
East Liberty Development Inc. statistics from 2015 show that East Liberty had 866 subsidized units,

percentages of affordable units of any Pittsburgh neighborhood. However, these stats were compiled

Suspense And Parallelism In Lauren Oliver s Before I Fall
Every choice you make has an end result Zig Ziglar. In the novel Before I Fall, the author, Lauren
Oliver, uses repetition, suspense and parallelism to show that one person s life can affect so many
others.
Lauren Oliver uses repetition in the novel Before I Fall to show that one person s life can affect the
life of someone completely unexpected. For example, the main character, Samantha Kingston, dies in
a car accident that she gets into with her friends, the popular girls, except Samantha does not fully die.
Instead, she relives the day of the accident over and over, from morning up until the accident that
night. Which is heavily foreshadowed before the accident when she says Maybe you can afford to

Samantha relives February 12th over and over but she lives every day differently. At the beginning she
sees no meaning in the continuous loop and starts to become frustrated and does whatever she wants
with her time on these days because she knows it does not matter that she will wake up and relive it
the next day anyway. This makes the reader curious about when and how Samantha will escape this
deja vu. As the days go on, Samantha and the reader slowly progress together and begin to see the
meaning unfold behind all of this, and both Samantha s and readers questions gradually get answered.
It amazes me how easy it is for things to change, how easy it is to start off down the same road you
always take and wind up somewhere new. Just one false step, one pause, one detour, and you end up
with new friends or a bad reputation or a boyfriend or a break up. It s never occured to me before; I ve

exist at the same time, like each moment we live has a thousand other moments layered underneath it
that look different. Through her thoughts, this shows the character s progression, curiosity, and
different perspectives as the days go on. The leisure pace of this novel keeps the build up of suspense
steady and keeps the reader guessing. The suspense carries through Samantha s final day and final

The Legacy Of Franklin D. Roosevelt
Franklin D. Roosevelt has gone down in history as one of the greatest presidents to serve our country.
He was president from 1933 to 1945, the longest any president has ever served. With the

Impact Of Globalization On Economic And Political Growth
Global Business Environment
Introduction
This paper investigates the impact of globalisation on the economic and political growth. For several
years the economic instability and high levels of income inequalities and poverty have hurt Brazil.
Domestic market had positives impact on Brazil in order to stable the economy.
How Has Politics Impacted Global Business in Brazil
2. Globalisation
2.1 Definition of globalisation
Globalisation is the process of communication and mixing between governments, people and

The Righteous One Follows God, Not The Unrighteous ( Vv )
A. The righteous one follows God, not the unrighteous (vv. 1 2)
The psalm begins by declaring that the righteous one is ‫אשרי‬. The word is usually translated blessed,
or happy. It is distinct from ‫רּוְך‬‫ָב‬ (also translated blessed ) in that the latter invokes the beneficent work
of God on persons and groups, while ‫אשרי‬ is a beatitude and points to and commends the conduct and
character that enjoys [God s blessing]. Neither word is perfect, because ‫אשרי‬ describes both secular
and spiritual happiness, and Brown suggests truly happy as a translation that captures both.
This is followed by three parallel phrases describing how the righteous one is not like the unrighteous.
Each line contains a different verb describing what the righteous one does not do, a different object
noun describing an aspect of the unrighteous, and a different genitive noun used to name the
unrighteous.
The three verbs translated literally are walk, stand, and sit, and are three of the most common verbs in
the Hebrew language. All of these verbs can be used metaphorically, as is the case here. These three
verbs are all are in the perfect tense, and VanGemeren comments that this indicates the godly are never
involved with anything tainted with evil.
I don t know if you can show that using the perfect tense means absolutes in this instance. However, it
s worth observing that these are the only indicatives that are clearly in the perfect mood in the whole
psalm. All of the other

Disadvantages Of A Limited Liability Company
There are several crucial factors to consider when starting a business. First, one must consider choose
the type of company they want to start, for example, a limited liability company. A limited liability
company is an unicorporated method of doing business that gives its members limited liability and
permits them to actively take part in management of the company. The second factor to consider is the
state in which the business will be registered. Different states have different requirements for forming
a limited liability company. Additionally, the advantages and disadvantages of forming a limited
liability company vary across different states. This paper will discuss the requirements for forming a
limited liability company in the state ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, members of the company have limited liability (Maxfield, 2011). This means that a creditor may
not use a member s personal assets to offset a debt owed by the company. Second, Wyoming gives
members of a limited liability company a tax advantage. This occurs because members only pay tax
on their share of profits, thus avoiding double taxation. The third advantage of forming a limited
liability company in Wyoming is that the state does not limit the number of investors. This is as
opposed to an S corporation where the number of investors is limited to 35 (Maxfield, 2011).
Additionally, forming a limited liability company in Wyoming is advantageous because there is no
general partner. This is as opposed to limited partnerships where the manager has unlimited personal
liability for the company s debts and has to maintain a one percent interest in the entity (Maxfield,
2011). Limited liability companies allow for flexibility in the management and limits liability to a
members share in the investment.
Despite these advantages, there are some disadvantages to forming a limited liability company in
Wyoming. First, there is limited transfer of interest. This means that a member cannot transfer their
shares unless all members vote to allow the transfer. Second, limited liability companies in Wyoming
are relatively expensive to form and operate. They have some complicated legal requirements

The Day Of The World
Every single person is frightened of death, or has a fear of being left behind. Death of a person is very
terrifying, yet the end of humanity and universe is not even imaginable. Humankind has been
wondering how and when will the Earth end for thousands of years, to be prepared spiritually and
religiously or just to decide whether to spend all the money that a person has or enjoy the life more.
Exemptionalist, environmentalist, universe and judgement day are a few known and existing concepts.
Initially, exemptionalists are the people who believes that humankind should stop worrying because
they can withstand all the situations. On the other hand, environmentalists are the people who believes
humankind is a part of nature so they point out that humankind is related to environment directly,
hence humankind is affected by all the problems associated with the environment. Universe is the
place where everything stays and occurs in. The day of judgement is the time many religions accept
that God will end the life which we live. Mainly theories about end of the world can be separated into
three groups which are the end by the human based problems, physical destruction of universe and the
order of God. Although the human based damages on the Earth are getting more and more serious and
physical collapse of universe makes sense scientifically, the decision of ending the world will only be
in the hands of the owner of everything, the God, not the humankind.
To begin with, humankind

Stop And Frisk Thesis
The law of stop and frisk gives police the constitutional right for a brief and limited search of the outer
garments for weapons only if they have reasonable suspicion that the person is involved in a crime.
My thesis statement is that The enforcement of this law is unfair to black and latino males who seem
to make up 90 percent of those stopped by police. I intend to prove this thesis statement by using data,
website information, and law books to show that this law is ineffective and only used to racially
profile innocent people. Another thing about the stop and frisk this police investigation tool is making
people feel like prisoners in their own communities. They can t come and go as they please without
fear about getting

Montaigne s Own Unorthodox Childhood Education
Montaigne s own unorthodox childhood education played a role in shaping the way he thought about
learning and about life. He spent his infancy in the countryside, his childhood immersed in Latin, and
his adolescence in classes with older students at the Collège de Guyenne. Because of his father s
nontraditional ideas about education, as Bakewell states, Montaigne grew up to be an independent
minded adult, following his own path in everything rather than deferring to duty and discipline (55).
He was a man who thought differently about the world around him and was comfortable with and
successful in writing not only about something different, himself, but in a way that had never been
done before, the personal essay. Montaigne s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The minds of students are like white paper, or wax, to be moulded and fashioned as one pleases
(Locke 179). Montaigne also explains this paradigm using a parallel simile in The Essays: Teachers
are for ever bawling into our ears as though pouring knowledge down through a funnel: our task is
merely to repeat what we have been told (169). In the traditional model, students simply have to
commit information to memory and be able to recite it on command.
In Montaigne s time, students would study classical texts and learn from institutions like the church.
The idea of being well educated meant you were able to recite the knowledge of the ancients in
writing and conversation. Montaigne was familiar with this method of learning and experienced this
pedagogy during his more structured educational years at the Collège de Guyenne. His exposure to
this model is evident because of the time period in which he attended institutions of learning, and is
also suggested by his own extensive reading of classical texts and the smattering of quotes from those
like Plato and Aristotle throughout The Essays, yet Montaigne claims that this concept of knowledge
is of little use. He contends that students of this method are not nourished and fed by what they learn:
the learning is passed from hand to hand with only one end in view: to show it off [...] having no other
use or currency (154). In short, students are not actually learning anything under this

The Effects Of Antibiotic Resistance On Infectious Diseases
Introduction
Using antibiotics to treat infectious diseases as a result of bacteria has added 20 years to our lifespan,
but the rapid emergence of antibiotic resistance is hindering their effectiveness. Cutting edge
antibiotics are required, but they have not been developed in the last 25 years (WHO, 2016). One class
of antibiotics are beta lactams, which are sub divided into four different groups of antimicrobial
agents, as shown in Figure 1.
Carbapenems such as imipenem and meropenem are unique because they have a remarkably broad
spectrum of activities due to being resistant against hydrolysis by most beta lactamases, which are
enzymes that hydrolyse the beta lactam ring in some antibiotics (O Toole, 2013). This gives
carbapenems greater success against gram positive and gram negative bacteria. The key difference
between these two types of microorganisms is that gram negative bacteria have a double membrane
making them more resistant to antibiotics (Kaplan, 2000). For the reasons explained, carbapenems are
treated as last line agents or antibiotics of last resort when the health of patients with infections
deteriorates or they are hosting resistant bacteria (Papp Wallace, et al, 2011).
Gram negative bacteria such as carbapenem resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) are worthy of being
called killer bacteria due to the mortality rate of those infected being as high as 50%. Overuse of
carbapenems endangers their vital role in rendering bacteria harmless. Some strains of

Janet And Landon
All of the managers we interviewed come from different companies, for example, Landon and John
are both managers of bigger companies with many employees while Juan and Janet are managers of
small stores. Since all managers come from such different industries, their work responsibilities and
daily functions are all different. Landon provides integrated transportation, customs brokerage, and
warehousing and distribution services on a global basis. He sells products, reaches out to
organizations and individuals to expand their market. On the other side, John is responsible for
bidding on contracts and managing works in the construction field. Juan and Janet, both managers of a
small shop work in the store making sure items are in stock. Juan is ... Show more content on

He also always has a backup plan in case something goes wrong. Juan bases his decision on
utilitarianism, centering his ideas of the greatest good for the greatest numbers, with intent to satisfy
his customers and his employees. On the contrary, Janet determines her decisions based on intuition
because her tasks are routine and past experience is

Essay about 5 Ways to Bust California’s Drought
The California water drought has been declared a crisis by the governor of California. 2013 was the
driest year on record, and California could be running out of water. Californians should be water wise,
and their use, or no use, of water will have an enormous impact on this drought. They can use the
techniques published in a recent Time article called, 5 Ways to Bust California s Drought, to reduce
their water use. Landscape techniques, alternate water sources, and the personal conservation of water
can reduce the use of water, and can have a positive change on this water crisis.
Landscaping techniques, such as drip irrigation and xeriscaping can reduce California s use of water
immensely. Eighty Percent of the state s developed water ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Desalination technology converts the tons of seawater that cover s California s coast into drinkable
water. This process, though expensive and difficult, would provide California with an endless supply
of water. The ocean is a huge part of the California lifestyle, and it could become a huge source of
their water supply too. The Groundwater Replenishment System recycles water to be used again. It
takes in about seventy million gallons of waste water a day and puts it through a cleaning and
purifying process, that then makes this water safe enough to drink. Many people may not be
comfortable with drinking recycled water, but this water could be put to use in landscaping and
farming, adding seventy million extra gallons a day. The desalination process may be a bit far fetched
for now, but using a water recycling program is completely feasible and would be a huge help in
reducing California s use of water. (only its not reducing, its just providing them with more water to
use yknow? how should I phrase that?)
Conservation is the technique that every California Citizen should participate in if the care about the
California water crisis. The average Californian home uses almost two hundred gallons of water a day,
but cutting five minutes off of ones shower time can save up to twenty five gallons of water a day. A
shorter shower time should be implemented by California residents, as well as other simple lifestyle
changes, such as turning the water off while brushing

Flight 403 Research Paper
Last call for flight 403, flight 403. My trip started off with a sprint to our gate. My aunt, cousins, and I
made it to our plane as they were closing the doors. Thank God we were all runners because if we
would have made it there a few seconds later, we would have missed our flight. I sat next to my
cousin, Nicole, and we were about to fly into an unforgettable trip.
My aunt, cousins, and I were going to Colorado! We met my Aunt Charlene s boyfriend, Mike, at the
airport in Colorado. We went to his parent s house to stay for the night, We played with their games
for hours. We also watched some movies and fell asleep.
The next day, after breakfast, we drove to Boulder, Colorado. It was about a three hour drive. We
made many stops at malls ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We went on a four and a half mile bike ride. It was all fun in games until we reached our second mile.
The rest of our bike ride was filled with hills. Everything was uphill from now. Our legs felt like jello.
After the long journey, we returned our bikes and drove to Aspen, Colorado. A bus took us to the start
of the hikes and takes us back to the lobby area. It was about a nine mile drive. At the beginning of the
hike, you get an option of whether you want to take the scenery hike or the crater hike. Of course,
Mike makes us go through the crater one. We had to hike up that mountain filled with huge rocks and
streams. It was one of the hardest things to do in my life because not only was I tripping over the
rocks and branches, but there were giant poisonous spiders hiding everywhere. It took us about an
hour and thirty minutes to reach the top. We lost track of time and we had to get back to the bus in 40
minutes or else it will leave without us and we would have to walk 9 miles back to the car. We
practically ran down that mountain. Of course, my little cousin trips from behind me and we slid into
the stream. I am not going to lie, that cold water felt really good, but we were soaked. I ran the rest of
the way down with heavy, squishy shoes. I did not think it was possible to run that fast for so long, but
somehow we mastered

Foreign Nannies Research Paper
There is an interesting trend growing in the US within families who want their children to learn a
second language at as early an age as possible: They hire a Foreign language speaking nanny. This
effectively kills two birds with one stone giving them someone to look after their young ones while
they work, and also giving the children immersion into a foreign language.
More and more parents are recognising the importance of being bilingual and understand that it is
much easier to learn a language as a child than as an adult. To that end then they are hiring foreign
nannies on the condition that the nanny speaks only in her native language to the children. This is a
complete turnaround from days gone by when foreign nannies would be asked to

Functional Family Dynamic Analysis
To form a functional family dynamic a household must provide all six main components of the Vanier
Institute of the Family. If one of these areas is lacking or missing the entire system will break down
and weaken the relationship between family members. It s important to analyze each aspect in
correlation to the family household to get a better view of the strengths and weaknesses as a group and
form a stronger bond with relatives. My mother and father both had two daughters each from a
previous marriage before conceiving me. I am their only child together, and the only child still living
at home. Only one of my sisters has gone on to start her own family (on my dad s side) by having two
daughters. If I choose to have children I will sincerely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If a worker at a business suddenly suffers an injury they aren t forced to work through the pain. It is
unethical to hold someone ill to the same standards they were held to before. If someone in my family
breaks a bone, or has the flu, they aren t expected to perform independently. Members of the family
are obligated to help as much as needed to make sure the injured and/or ill recover and receive the
necessary care. If a child is never taught socialization they are neglected. In extreme cases feral
children may never establish the ability to speak. Growing up with four older stepsisters I learned to
prioritize verbal communication for self expression. I had them to look up to and learn from. In an
institution like elementary school a child has peers and an authority figure that rewards good behavior.
I also had this environment at home. Power is equally split between my mother and father in an
egalitarian relationship. As the youngest, I have always had the least amount of authority (and also the
least responsibility). An example of this hierarchy would be an diarchy government (possibly
borderline totalitarian) where two leaders rule as counterparts. An institution where control is held
between two figures represents my household

Essay Cima Mountaineering Inc
Situation Analysis:
Cima Mountaineering, Inc. is a company that manufactures mountaineering and hiking boots for
mountaineers and serious hikers. The company mainly manufactures two classic kinds of leather boots
Glacier boots for mountaineering and Summit boots for Hiking. Although the demand for
mountaineering and hiking boots has increased in 1994, only serious mountaineers and hikers are
interested in their boots and the demand is seasonal, while the foreign competitors target both serious
and weekender hikers offering them a line of fashionable boots at lower prices.
Over the years, Cima s sales and profits have increased. The owners of the company grew up learning
and inheriting the boots business and thus have considerable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The second alternative as proposed by Anthony is to expand the existing product line by introducing
two new boots in the Summit line and another women s boots in the Glacier line. These new boots
would have a lower pricing to provide price points at the low end of the line. The new boots will be
positioned as boots for serious hikers who want quality hiking boot at a reasonable price and also for
casual hikers who are looking to move up to a better boot.
Analysis of alternatives and recommendation:
The advantages of choosing the first alternative is that it would help target the weekender boot market
which is 25% of the boot market share, which is more than both the mountaineering and serious hiker
market share put together. Also, the weekender boot market has high growth potential as shown by the
market research. But, venturing into an all new unfamiliar market can be very risky. The competition
in this new weekender market is very fierce and Cima doesn t have any experience working with the
new line of boots. It would also be difficult to change the perception that consumers have of Cima
from a mountaineering boots company to a casual weekender boots company.
The advantage of choosing Anthony s proposal is that introducing lower end boots will add on to the
advantage that Cima already has and may help in competing with other boot manufacturers who sell
lower priced fashionable boots. The

Community Emergency Preparedness and Response Paper Community Emergency Preparedness and Response Paper Kimberly Lewis NUR 408 May 7, 2012 Theresa White, MSN Community Emergency Preparedness and Response Paper Preparing for an emergency and knowing what to do in case of an emergency is an important aspect every community should know. Preparedness can be the difference between life and death in certain situations. This is the case in Season two Episode five of this week s assignment. A forest fire is raging out of control near the Neighborhood for five days. Resident s are developing respiratory and problems related to the fire s proximity to the city. As with any disaster, communities need to have a plan of action and be ready to put the plan in action for the safety of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nurse Karen advises patients with respiratory diseases to stay indoors to avoid any respiratory irritants the fire is causing. Many of the public health care teams in Neighborhood were playing catch up after the fire had been raging for days. The hospital in Neighborhood failed to call a code yellow. Initiating a code yellow would have alerted the emergency response team to action to help accommodate the influx of patients the health care facilities were facing. Because of the failure to call the code yellow, the staff is overworked and is causing added stress on the hospital staff on the floor, the emergency room, and throughout the hospital. If a state of emergency were called, more staff as well as room for patients would have been made available, thus decreasing stress the staff is feeling. Because the forest fire was raging out of control close to the city, the science fair should have either been canceled or rescheduled until the fire was put out and the threat gone. Public service announcements should have been broadcast alerting residents of the fire and the health hazards they could face. Residents should have been warned to stay indoors and to only go outside if necessary. Luckily, most residents stayed indoors, or else there would have been an even larger number of patients in the emergency room. Public Health Agencies Forest fires not only cause medical conditions to exacerbate but also can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. We ve Got The Dirt On Guy Brains By Dave Barry In Dave Barry s article We ve Got the Dirt on Guy Brains and the Deborah Tannen s Sex, Lies, and Conversation , the authors discussed the difference between men and women in terms of specific issues. However, their opinions of what reasons have led to certain differences diverged. This essay aimed at providing a detailed examination of both articles by comparing some of the points. First of all, I will discuss the shared point of both articles regarding the differences of men and women. Then the I will move on taking about the major different opinions the two authors held. Once these have been done, a brief examination of the the evidence in both articles. Although Barry and Tannen have taken different approaches to examine the differences between men and women, as Barry s point was based on housework while Tannen s discussion mainly focused on communication, it should be noted that both of them agreed on the opinion that men and women are quite different from each other, especially in terms of emotions and feeling. Barry and Tannen pointed out that women are more inclined to share their feelings and emotions while men are not. In Barry s article, he has been quite specific about this point by saying that some women (and here I am referring to my wife) can share as many as three days worth of feelings about an event that take eight seconds to actually happen. We men, on the other hand, are reluctant to share our feelings, in large part because we often don t have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Slavery In Colonial Latin America The institution of slavery was a big part of life in colonial Latin America. According Henry Louis Gates, Jr., 11.2 million slaves were imported to the Americas from Africa between 1502 and 1866. Most of the slaves were transported to the Caribbean and Latin America. In fact, Brazil got a total of about 4.8 million slaves (Black in LA). The working and living conditions for slaves were horrific. So many slaves were imported specifically because slaves were expendable. Slave holders could afford to undernourish their slaves due to the slave market. Slaves were in high demand in colonial Latin America. Some slaves resisted their enslavement by running away to form quilombos, or maroon communities. According to Thomas Gage, cimarrones, ... • 5. Niccolo Machiavelli s The Prince Machiavelli wrote The Prince in 16th century. His methods of acquiring and maintaining rule over people are not relevant in today s modern American society. There are many principles that are still true in politics today, but the methods of ruling can no longer be used in American society today. Niccolò Machiavelli was born in Florence, Italy in 1496. He was a diplomat in Italy s Florentine Republic for fourteen years. This was during the Medici family exile, and when they returned, Machiavelli was dismissed and shortly imprisoned. After he was released, he wrote The Prince. It was written as a handbook for politicians to follow and is considered the most famous book on politics ever written. Machiavelli is known as the father of modern political theory. He died in 1527 in Florence, Italy. In The Prince, Machiavelli describes the different methods of acquiring the power over a state. The first he mentions is if the principalities are acquired through one s own arms and virtue. They acquire their principality with difficulty but hold it with ease. (23) The second, Of New Principalities That Are Acquired by Others Arms and Fortune. (25) Someone gives these to the prince either for money or by the favor of whoever gave it. • 7. Kangxi s Valedictory Edict Emperor Kangxi: Valedictory Edict Emperor Kangxi was considered and still is thought of as one of the greatest emperors in Chinese history. Kangxi s reign was longer than that of any other ruler in Chinese history. One of his most notable achievements was uniting China after the turmoil upon the collapse of the Ming. A main reason for the Chinese granting him the mandate of heaven or granted the right to rule China from permission of the heavens was his knowledge and respect for Chinese heritage and culture. In the Valedictory Edict Kangxi views death positively and as a relief from the everyday grind of virtuously ruling an empire. One of his most virtuous traits is he does not fear death and is comforted by the idea of relief from the responsibility of his reign through death once his sovereignty as a virtuous ruler is completed. One of Kangxi s great tasks left to be finished is who is to succeed him. He views this as a great issue, and as a good emperor cannot neglect it. Kangxi understands the weight of his decision and I believe he truly wants what is best for China. The issue of an heir seems to be on the forefront of his mind and this dilemma weighs heavily on his conscience. Kangxi states he wrote a letter indicating his intention for an heir, but does not go into detail in his Valedictory Edict. There is a record that Kangxi s son Yinreng was disinherited in 1708. There are stories that emperor Kangxi heard from his officials, that when touring the country, Yinreng would recruit young men and women as personal sex slaves as part of a major molestation scandal. This deeply saddened Kangxi and, while on his death bed, reportedly appointed Yinzhen; Emperor Kangxi s fourth son. Yinzhen s claim to the throne was highly controversial and heavily disputed because Yinzhen and his followers were only ones present at the time of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Claudius as Evil in Hamlet by William Shakespeare Essay The abstract concept of evil has vastly transformed throughout human history, ranging for the supernatural and mystical to the very humans amongst whom we live. In modern times, evil has become an entirely ambiguous term. Who is evil? What is evil? Men like Adolph Hitler and Saddam Hussein have been garnered with the term ‘evil for their atrocities against fellow humans. Now it seems evil has a solely human significance; when a person violates the individual rights of others on a massive scale, he/she is evil. In Shakespeare s time – the Elizabethan era – evil had a similar, but somewhat altered connotation in the human mind. Evil was an entity that violated the English Christian monarchial tradition. Therefore, a man such as Claudius, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gertrude could not be persuaded to switch husbands without a little verbal trickery on Claudius part, and that turns out to be his true skill: lying convincingly. Claudius manages to legitimize his ascent to the throne by diverting popular attention, away from the circumstances of his ascent, and to the impending attack by the young Fortinbras (I.ii.1 20). Claudius propensity towards fabrications is in direct violation with the Holy Commandment Thou shalt not bear false witness; hence, he violates one of the pillars of Christian moral law. Claudius lies are effective enough to persistently deceive to play s antagonist, Hamlet. Despite Hamlet s disgust with Claudius for marrying Gertrude, and his view of Claudius as a king of shreds and patches (III.iv.104), Hamlet suspicion of Claudius as a murderer is preliminarily nonexistent. The appearance of a spirit claiming to be Hamlet s dead father first alerts Hamlet to the actions of that incestuous, that adulterate beast, /With witchcraft of his with, with traitorous gifts (I.v.42 3). And yet still, Hamlet remains hesitant to believe that Claudius was the murderer, searching for complementary evidence. The play that Hamlet enacts designed to catch the conscience of the king (II.ii.562) succeeds in revealing Claudius guilt, but does not provoke instant action on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The United Nations are attempting to help the situation, but until the people of Yugoslavia can come to an agreement continued warfare and heartache is inevitable. The problems in Yugoslavia began because the country is separated into two distinct parts. The north and west parts of the country were once under the rule of the Austro Hungarian Empire, and the south and the east were controlled by the Ottoman Empire. • 16. Difference Between The Aeneid And The Iliad Regardless of the time frame, Virgil s Aeneid and Homer s epic the Iliad share both a copious amount of similarities and differences. For example, many common themes such as heroism, fate, and destiny are apparent in both works. Within the Aeneid and the Iliad, it is seen that the wars going on during that time were glorious that is why the role of gods were significant in leading both Aeneas and Achilles and influencing fate. In both texts, it is clear from the beginning that the role of the gods is to make Aeneas and Achilles fulfill their journey The Iliad focuses on the end of the Trojan War and the damaging power, while the Aeneid is focused during the aftermath of the war and underlies the foundation for the new civilization. This paper will address and argue the comparison of the role of gods and how each of the authors representation of the gods have influence on the lives of mortals. In both the Aeneid and the Iliad their main characters were chosen by gods because they have gained favor. Aeneas and Achilles were chosen because they were destined to fulfill a journey. The gods in both works directed the lives of mortals, but, were also very specific on who they would help. The gods determined the destiny of the mortals. Achilles and Aeneas are similar in the sense that they have become favorable in the eyes of the gods, partially because of their divine nepotism but also because they stand out from ordinary men by having a great military and physical prowess. ... By Conspiracy Theorist , it is meant to reference a person who has spent at least ten years of their life to the ideas which counter those of larger accepted organizations (ex: Government). These persons must have published at least two books about their topics and must have some sort of mass following and audience. Human behavior is so complex that sometimes everyday interactions by humans seem unreal when studied more in depth. John Berger and David Berreby both discuss how humans view other humans. Berger claims that humans, especially women, are seen solely as objects or sights. However, although Berreby claims that humans have subconscious impressions of one another, he would likely disagree that humans are seen as objects, instead seeing deeper, meaningful human connection within one another. Throughout Ways of Seeing, John Berger uses European oil paintings and art to describe the relationship between women and men and the way that men view women. The entire chapter focuses primarily on a women s body, how her body is surveyed by men, and how this causes the women to also survey herself. When first introducing the relationship between men and women, Berger clarifies women are an object of vision, stating, One might simplify this by saying: men act and women appear. Men look at women. Berger s use of European paintings of naked women demonstrate the way women are being seen as material items instead of something deeper with more substance. Berreby s use of research studies demonstrate how it has become a part of human nature to find somewhere to belong and something relatable to identify with. This has lead to the elimination of judgments and the increase of more connection and understanding between humans. Most importantly, Berger and Berreby both express the importance of seeing other humans and the realization that the behavior of the human mind simply seems unreal sometimes. • 20. Tomato ( Solanum Lycopersicum ) [1] Background According to Kimura and Sinha (2008), tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) is one of the most important vegetable plants around the world, as it s produced in disparate areas like south western America and Africa. It is also considered the second most abundant horticultural product after the potato. Perveen et al. (2015), stated that, currently, there are thirteen recognized wild tomato species which allows a great diversity in the phenotypes. The tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) is an important source for disparate essential compounds such as folic acid, carotenoids, and potassium. Due to its widely use; not only as a food but also as a perfect material which can be used in research to treat serious and devastating diseases as certain types of cancers (melanoma skin cancer and breast cancer), cardiovascular diseases and photo aging (Liu et el., 2012). The use of it in such important researches returns to its anti oxidant activity which arises from the carotenoids pigments it contains like alpha carotene, beta carotene, and lycopene (Dorais et el., 2008). Tomato contains a lot of compounds which have a high benefits for health, and also for its wonderful flavor which is used in our daily food as a flavor during cooking. The question here is what is the compound which plays an important role in all this benefits of carotenoids? I never thought of a college ever being a place where you d find students talking in a racist way. To me school has always been a place where I didn t think anyone had to worry about hateful or racially offensive speech. But to my surprise many campuses around the United States have this problem and they need to find a way to solve it. According to an article I read titled AMERICANS ARE SPLIT ALONG PARTY LINES OVER WHETHER SCHOOLS SHOULD PUNISH RACIST SPEECH This article surprised me how many college students think penalty should be given to people on campus using hateful or racially offensive speech, to try and resolve this problem. In a poll done by Huffington Post/YouGov reviled that 53 percent of college students feel this way. • 22. The Carnivalesque Role of the Fool in Twelfth Night and... Twelfth Night and The Servant of Two Masters both relate to this course s theme of the carnivalesque. Both plays share the commonality of having a clown, or a fool; in Twelfth Night it is Feste or the Fool, and in The Servant of Two Masters it is Truffaldino. Both characters play the fool in contrasting ways to express similar yet different forms of the carnivalesque. During carnival, laughter is prominent; people are laughing together, they are laughing at each other, and they are being laughed at. The laughter of carnival is both malicious and happy and everyone is included in it. Feste and Truffaldino show the different aspects of carnival laughter through their portrayals of the fool. Because he is so wrapped up in what is going on, he isn t able to stop and notice that everyone is laughing at him. This is clearly shown in the dinner scene. Truffaldino is so busy trying to serve both masters that he misses the other waiters making fun of him and he misses how foolish he looks running back and forth from Beatrice s room to Florindo s room stuffing food in his mouth in between (Goldoni 129 134). Feste and Truffaldino both take part in trickery in their respective plays. Their motives behind doing the tricks show the different ways that each character plays the fool. Feste participates in the scheme against Malvolio by attempting to drive him insane by dressing up as Sir Topas and speaking nonsense. In response to Malvolio complaining that it is dark in the room, Feste says Why, it hath bay windows transparent as barricadoes, and the clerestories toward the south north are as lustrous as ebony. And yet complainest thou of obstruction? Although despair is mentioned a plethora of times, hope is much more overriding. Hope is the sole reason why the narrator has never lost the sensation of always being on the brink of some magic revelation (p.1). He then goes on saying that if only I would look closely enough at the world, then that magic revelation would be mine. This line shows that the narrator still believes there is a chance for him to get closure about what had happened recently (p.2). • 24. Observation On Observation You can answer the following questions. After observing at different schools and possibly different grades, 1. Do you still want to become a teacher? Why or why not? After doing my observations, I still want to become a teacher. Going into this class, initially I was hesitant and unsure if I wanted to pursue teaching, but after one full day of observing a kindergarten class I am sure this is what I want to do with my life. Seeing the children so excited to learn really made me happy, and I want to be able to encourage that excitement in children myself. I think teaching is a very important job, and thought it is a little scary how much responsibility the career is, I think I am up to the task. I would love to be able to know I am helping the world by teaching children and giving them knowledge they can use in life, and encouraging them to learn academics and about the real world so they can grow up and be successful adults and citizens. I really love working with children, and I think I would enjoy teaching them what they need to know. 2. Do you still want to teach the grade you originally chose from the beginning of the semester? Explain. If you did not have a chosen grade, do you have a better idea? Explain. I still definitely want to teach elementary school, preferably kindergarten, 1st, or 2nd grade. I was also slightly considering high school (my sister teaches high school and keeps trying to convince me to teach high school as well), but after observing a high school class, I know I for sure want to stick with elementary school. I think I work very well with children and that I could be more successful teaching small kids, rather than teenagers. I also prefer to be with one set of kids all day, rather than 5 or more sets of kids for an hour every day. I think it would be difficult for me to get used to having too many sets of kids, so one set would be the best for me, and I think I could be more helpful to the children if I was only with one set of kids all day long. • 25. Immigration Reform In Arizona Introduction Back in 2007 there were several concerns over immigration as a whole and exploding proportions of illegal immigrants crossing the border in the Arizona area. Arizona attempted to resolve the influx of people across the border by imposing heavy fines on employers hiring illegal immigrants. At that time in Arizona there was a democratic governor Janet Napolitano that continually vetoed the Arizona s legislature attempt to reduce illegal immigration. In 2009 the state replaced the Democratic governor with a Republican governor Jan Brewer who was supportive of reforms for immigration in Arizona. In 2010 the immigration problem was so sever that Arizona passed legislation allowing the state to enforce federal law for identification of legal immigration into the United States. This sparked a nation wide discussion on illegal immigration and immigration reform. The problem with immigration is that the federal government has failed to control immigrants coming into the U.S. illegally. This has caused a substantial increase in illegal immigration that threatens the U.S. economy. There continues to be uncertainty on how to approach the legalized immigration into the U.S. The federal government has attempted since 1975 to enact laws that resolve the issue but the laws continue to fall short of fixing the problem. Power becomes a problem when it is not questioned or tested. Therefore, the one with the power would have total control over anything or anyone they wanted, or they would feel that way. People with power feel invincible when it is not questioned. Throughout history it has been proven that this creates a problem. For example, Richard Nixon and the Watergate scandal is similar to the scandal with Father Flynn in Doubt. • 27. Lab Report On The Reaction Time Nicholas Durazo KINE2202 section 002 Lab Report 1 Introduction The reaction time (RT) of students was measured in the experiment to determine whether light or sound stimulus initiates a quicker response time. The question of whether or not RT was related to movement time (MT) was also challenged. Each student performed two test in random order; one testing the reaction time of a red light stimulus, or visual reaction time (VRT); and the other testing the reaction time of a beeping sound stimulus, or auditory reaction time (ART). The student completed the VRT trial by simply receiving the stimulus and pressing a button. The student placing and holding their hand on a button starts the ART trial. Once the student receives the stimulus (beep) they press the adjacent button as fast as they can. The ART trial does not only include the data of the RT, but also the data from the MT. Having previous knowledge that light travels faster than sound; one can predict that VRT is faster than ART. The prediction that MT is independent upon RT can be made with the thought that there are so many opposing variables that could affect the MT of an individual unrelated RT such as old age Methods In the experiment, 80 students were randomly separated into groups of 2 to write down the data from the test for the other individual. The VRT was measured by pressing a button once the student had seen the stimulus. The reaction time data would simply show up on the screen once the student completed ... Conventional air conditioning and thermostats are designed to perform in slow control loops, on time scales of minutes. ECS adjustment can use time scale separation and stay away from this effective dc loop action. In this sense, an ac feed forward signal is injected into a drive to adjust power flow on fast time scales, while avoiding interference on slow time scales. The average performance of the ECS system remains intact, and the fast adjustment is transparent to users. Fig. 2 displays this implementation control. A few recent papers [53] [56] have demonstrated a virtual synchronous machine (VSM) concept, particularly for microgrid applications and usually for distributed generators utilizing the same ac dc ac conversion stages. The same concept applied on flywheel based energy storage is discussed in [57]. Given the similarities existed in the MEA power grid and motor controlled thermal storage, it is deemed feasible to implement the VSM concept in this research. A high level description is shown in Fig. 3. For a synchronous machine in the rotating reference frame, the d q voltage and current relationship is shown in (1a b), where vg is the grid voltage, R is the stator resistance, M is the magnetizing, and Ld = Lq = L is assumed. On the other hand, the active front end (i.e., the hex bridge converter connected to the gird) follows (2a b) in d q reference frame at ωc rotating speed, where Rg and Lg are grid tied resistance and inductance, and vc is the output voltage at the converter controlled by modulation index from the dc voltage bus []. The analogy between (1a b) and (2a b) is straightforward. By equating the first three terms and varying the modulation indices, md and mq, the active front end mimics the VSM proposed in [ZhongQC]. The purpose of the ac motor tied inverter (i.e., the left hex bridge converter in Fig. 3) is to main a constant 270 V dc bus by adjusting the motor speed and torque using conventional vector controls. • 29. The Importance Of Maintaining The Correct Acid Base Balance The importance of maintain the correct acid base balance in the body is crucial for a healthy lifestyle. Human bodies are very sensitive to pH levels and must be maintained to prevent any health issues. The term pH means potentials oh hydrogen. To function properly our blood pH is regulated at 7.4. The degree of acidity or alkalinity is referred to as the acid base balance. The acidity levels increase when the acidic compounds in the blood increase of the alkaline compounds in the blood fall. Alkalinity increases when the reverse occurs. The levels of alkaline and acidic compounds depend on the body s intake, production or decreased elimination or vice versa. If the pH rises or falls increasingly the body s proteins and enzymes can denature and stop functioning. This can cause serious diseases such as cancers or even death. Therefore, our body has essential mechanisms in place to regulate the pH of our blood. Regulating acid base balance: The main functions of the body that deal with maintaining acid base balance are the buffer, renal and respiratory systems. Buffer System: Normal metabolism produces hydrogen in the form of acids; to maintain the pH of the blood the acids are buffered or removed from the body. • 37. The Righteous One Follows God, Not The Unrighteous ( Vv ) A. The righteous one follows God, not the unrighteous (vv. 1 2) The psalm begins by declaring that the righteous one is ‫אשרי‬. The word is usually translated blessed, or happy. It is distinct from ‫רּוְך‬‫ָב‬ (also translated blessed ) in that the latter invokes the beneficent work of God on persons and groups, while ‫אשרי‬ is a beatitude and points to and commends the conduct and character that enjoys [God s blessing]. Neither word is perfect, because ‫אשרי‬ describes both secular and spiritual happiness, and Brown suggests truly happy as a translation that captures both. This is followed by three parallel phrases describing how the righteous one is not like the unrighteous. Each line contains a different verb describing what the righteous one does not do, a different object noun describing an aspect of the unrighteous, and a different genitive noun used to name the unrighteous. The three verbs translated literally are walk, stand, and sit, and are three of the most common verbs in the Hebrew language. All of these verbs can be used metaphorically, as is the case here. These three verbs are all are in the perfect tense, and VanGemeren comments that this indicates the godly are never involved with anything tainted with evil. • 39. Disadvantages Of A Limited Liability Company There are several crucial factors to consider when starting a business. First, one must consider choose the type of company they want to start, for example, a limited liability company. A limited liability company is an unicorporated method of doing business that gives its members limited liability and permits them to actively take part in management of the company. The second factor to consider is the state in which the business will be registered. Different states have different requirements for forming a limited liability company. Additionally, the advantages and disadvantages of forming a limited liability company vary across different states. This paper will discuss the requirements for forming a limited liability company in the state ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First, members of the company have limited liability (Maxfield, 2011). This means that a creditor may not use a member s personal assets to offset a debt owed by the company. Second, Wyoming gives members of a limited liability company a tax advantage. This occurs because members only pay tax on their share of profits, thus avoiding double taxation. The third advantage of forming a limited liability company in Wyoming is that the state does not limit the number of investors. This is as opposed to an S corporation where the number of investors is limited to 35 (Maxfield, 2011). Additionally, forming a limited liability company in Wyoming is advantageous because there is no general partner. This is as opposed to limited partnerships where the manager has unlimited personal liability for the company s debts and has to maintain a one percent interest in the entity (Maxfield, 2011). Limited liability companies allow for flexibility in the management and limits liability to a members share in the investment. Despite these advantages, there are some disadvantages to forming a limited liability company in Wyoming. First, there is limited transfer of interest. This means that a member cannot transfer their shares unless all members vote to allow the transfer. Second, limited liability companies in Wyoming are relatively expensive to form and operate. They have some complicated legal requirements ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Monologue Of Jabari It was like two hands intertwining together when the moon s light peeked through the gargantuan sycamore trees. We are on the treacherous run to freedom, and I am eager to get there. Because of my bistered skin, I was shackled and cuffed, and forced to work in a field my whole life without my family. If all goes well tonight, I will be a free man who makes his own decisions instead of having everything forced upon me by an austere master. It seems like we had been running for days and my feet had never felt pain this agonizing until now. We slid through the woods like a snake slithering towards its prey until we began to hear voices. • 41. The Day Of The World Every single person is frightened of death, or has a fear of being left behind. Death of a person is very terrifying, yet the end of humanity and universe is not even imaginable. Humankind has been wondering how and when will the Earth end for thousands of years, to be prepared spiritually and religiously or just to decide whether to spend all the money that a person has or enjoy the life more. Exemptionalist, environmentalist, universe and judgement day are a few known and existing concepts. Initially, exemptionalists are the people who believes that humankind should stop worrying because they can withstand all the situations. On the other hand, environmentalists are the people who believes humankind is a part of nature so they point out that humankind is related to environment directly, hence humankind is affected by all the problems associated with the environment. Universe is the place where everything stays and occurs in. The day of judgement is the time many religions accept that God will end the life which we live. Mainly theories about end of the world can be separated into three groups which are the end by the human based problems, physical destruction of universe and the order of God. Although the human based damages on the Earth are getting more and more serious and physical collapse of universe makes sense scientifically, the decision of ending the world will only be in the hands of the owner of everything, the God, not the humankind. • 43. Montaigne s Own Unorthodox Childhood Education Montaigne s own unorthodox childhood education played a role in shaping the way he thought about learning and about life. He spent his infancy in the countryside, his childhood immersed in Latin, and his adolescence in classes with older students at the Collège de Guyenne. Because of his father s nontraditional ideas about education, as Bakewell states, Montaigne grew up to be an independent minded adult, following his own path in everything rather than deferring to duty and discipline (55). He was a man who thought differently about the world around him and was comfortable with and successful in writing not only about something different, himself, but in a way that had never been done before, the personal essay. Montaigne s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The minds of students are like white paper, or wax, to be moulded and fashioned as one pleases (Locke 179). Montaigne also explains this paradigm using a parallel simile in The Essays: Teachers are for ever bawling into our ears as though pouring knowledge down through a funnel: our task is merely to repeat what we have been told (169). In the traditional model, students simply have to commit information to memory and be able to recite it on command. In Montaigne s time, students would study classical texts and learn from institutions like the church. The idea of being well educated meant you were able to recite the knowledge of the ancients in writing and conversation. Montaigne was familiar with this method of learning and experienced this pedagogy during his more structured educational years at the Collège de Guyenne. His exposure to this model is evident because of the time period in which he attended institutions of learning, and is also suggested by his own extensive reading of classical texts and the smattering of quotes from those like Plato and Aristotle throughout The Essays, yet Montaigne claims that this concept of knowledge is of little use. He contends that students of this method are not nourished and fed by what they learn: the learning is passed from hand to hand with only one end in view: to show it off [...] having no other use or currency (154). In short, students are not actually learning anything under this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Effects Of Antibiotic Resistance On Infectious Diseases Introduction Using antibiotics to treat infectious diseases as a result of bacteria has added 20 years to our lifespan, but the rapid emergence of antibiotic resistance is hindering their effectiveness. Cutting edge antibiotics are required, but they have not been developed in the last 25 years (WHO, 2016). One class of antibiotics are beta lactams, which are sub divided into four different groups of antimicrobial agents, as shown in Figure 1. Carbapenems such as imipenem and meropenem are unique because they have a remarkably broad spectrum of activities due to being resistant against hydrolysis by most beta lactamases, which are enzymes that hydrolyse the beta lactam ring in some antibiotics (O Toole, 2013). This gives carbapenems greater success against gram positive and gram negative bacteria. The key difference between these two types of microorganisms is that gram negative bacteria have a double membrane making them more resistant to antibiotics (Kaplan, 2000). For the reasons explained, carbapenems are treated as last line agents or antibiotics of last resort when the health of patients with infections deteriorates or they are hosting resistant bacteria (Papp Wallace, et al, 2011). Gram negative bacteria such as carbapenem resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) are worthy of being called killer bacteria due to the mortality rate of those infected being as high as 50%. Overuse of carbapenems endangers their vital role in rendering bacteria harmless. Some strains of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay about 5 Ways to Bust California’s Drought The California water drought has been declared a crisis by the governor of California. 2013 was the driest year on record, and California could be running out of water. Californians should be water wise, and their use, or no use, of water will have an enormous impact on this drought. They can use the techniques published in a recent Time article called, 5 Ways to Bust California s Drought, to reduce their water use. Landscape techniques, alternate water sources, and the personal conservation of water can reduce the use of water, and can have a positive change on this water crisis. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Desalination technology converts the tons of seawater that cover s California s coast into drinkable water. This process, though expensive and difficult, would provide California with an endless supply of water. The ocean is a huge part of the California lifestyle, and it could become a huge source of their water supply too. The Groundwater Replenishment System recycles water to be used again. It takes in about seventy million gallons of waste water a day and puts it through a cleaning and purifying process, that then makes this water safe enough to drink. Many people may not be comfortable with drinking recycled water, but this water could be put to use in landscaping and farming, adding seventy million extra gallons a day. The desalination process may be a bit far fetched for now, but using a water recycling program is completely feasible and would be a huge help in reducing California s use of water. (only its not reducing, its just providing them with more water to use yknow? how should I phrase that?) Conservation is the technique that every California Citizen should participate in if the care about the California water crisis. The average Californian home uses almost two hundred gallons of water a day, but cutting five minutes off of ones shower time can save up to twenty five gallons of water a day. • 48. Foreign Nannies Research Paper There is an interesting trend growing in the US within families who want their children to learn a second language at as early an age as possible: They hire a Foreign language speaking nanny. This effectively kills two birds with one stone giving them someone to look after their young ones while they work, and also giving the children immersion into a foreign language. More and more parents are recognising the importance of being bilingual and understand that it is much easier to learn a language as a child than as an adult. To that end then they are hiring foreign nannies on the condition that the nanny speaks only in her native language to the children. The new boots will be positioned as boots for serious hikers who want quality hiking boot at a reasonable price and also for casual hikers who are looking to move up to a better boot. Analysis of alternatives and recommendation: The advantages of choosing the first alternative is that it would help target the weekender boot market which is 25% of the boot market share, which is more than both the mountaineering and serious hiker market share put together. Also, the weekender boot market has high growth potential as shown by the market research. But, venturing into an all new unfamiliar market can be very risky.
