to as same sex marriage. It occurs when men and women are attracted to someone
of the same gender of themselves. However, some people denied the idea of it since
they believe it is going against the law of nature and violating certain beliefs and
traditions. LGBT people have faced injustice and discrimination and have been
fighting for their rights for decades to overcome prejudice against them which they
have finally received in 2015.
LGBT individuals has remained largely silent and unseen in American culture until
World War II ended. Many of them hid their unusual sexual orientation from the
society out of shame and fear. Gays who lived in cities often formed close social

The films, The Magnificent Seven , and, Seven Samurai , essentially portray the
same events in action, especially in the introductory scene. However, The
Magnificent Seven , portrays the western version while Seven Samurai takes place
in an eastern village. The films also choose a different order to show events and to
go about each event. They do, however, portray the same basic idea: an innocent
villagefaces bandits who have no intentions besides pillaging and stealing all
belongings from the villagers, even if death of villagers must come from their
intentions. The scene I have chosen to compare between the two films is the
introduction scene. I have chosen to analyze and compare this scene from each film
because while they show direct similarities in events as well as camera angles, the
films differ in many ways as well. The scene in, The Magnificent Seven, begins with
the bandits riding in on horses over a hill top towards a village to the tune of peppy
western music. This scene is shot as a far away angle and is done so with no
verbal communication, almost as if the bandits all have one common goal and
they do not have to discuss with one another to know that is their intentions. This
leads to the viewer being required to view the scene as a whole and consider what
the intentions of these men must be and why they feel that way. When the men
arrive to the village, the viewer is given little to no information regarding the
village. The viewer then begins to wonder: Who are these people? , Did they do
something to deserve this? , Maybe they know each other personally. The bandits
then approach the villagers as if they own the place . They are asking for drinks,
sitting down as they please, and even taking as they wish. The villagers seem to go
along with this as though they are used to it and intend to fully comply. This can be
seen through the conversation between the bandit and villagerwhere the villager talks
very quietly, slurring his words, and telling the bandit what he wants to hear. The
bandits then begin to leave as a villager runs after the bandits with intentions of

My life can be divided into two segments. The first part I lived with my family and
Mexico City, the second part started when I moved to Austin in the start of college.
The live that I lived in each of the sections has been different from the activities that
I took part in, all the way to what kind of location those activities occurred. In this

In the past I used to be more focused in religion and sports, since I used to think of
the synagogue and JCC as important nodes. Currently the activities I typically
partake have become mostly studying, socializing and drinking, which can be
perceived by the nodes I consider important, such as the SAC and my fraternity. In
the case of the landmarks, in both of the mental maps I have objects that catch my
attention in my everyday routes as things I distinguish in the landscape.
Consequently, in both maps my paths are defined on the nodes of my life, which
have led to these objects becoming landmarks for me.
Meanwhile when it comes to considering how I got from point A to point B in each
map it is very different. In Mexico City every single place I traveled meant that I
needed to drive or be driven around since distances are relatively long compared to
Austin. This meant that the places that I considered to be important for me are more
scattered around my mental map. For Austin, most of my activities take part in a
smaller region since the mode of transportation I primarily use is walking, therefore
the distances I cover are much shorter than in my past.
In general I can conclude that by comparing and contrasting both mental maps, I can

Though Sandra Cisneros The House on Mango Street brings up several aspects of
young Esperanza s internal conflict, her discovering what comprises her identity is
the most prominent point throughout the story. While the reader watches a young
girl grow up, they also watch her question all of her observations that shape her
perception of herself. As she deals with life s harsh reality in her low income
neighborhood, the hardships she faces make her question who she really is, and what
defines her.
One of the reasons that it can be complicated for Esperanza to find out who she is, is
that gender roles are being forced upon her future constantly. From her own family, to
her friends abusive fathers, she is shown that her culture ...[doesn t] like their
women strong (Cisneros 10). In the Vignette titled My Name , Esperanza explains
the struggles that she has with the personal meaning she has put behind it. She
explains how her grandma was like her, a wild horse of a woman (Cisneros 11) and

because she doesn t want to inherit her [grandmother s lonely] place by the window.

think this show took advantage of every opportunity for blocking to advance the
storyline. When the actors moved downstage, they received the audience s attention as
planned, and vice versa. When the actors moved upstage, the audience s attention
then shifted to whoever was closest or in the strongest acting position. The director
himself has strong ties towards the show; being cast as the main role of Charlie on
two different occasions when he was young, this adds a personal element to the
production here at Rollins.
From an audience s perspective, a performer and their costume merge into one entity
(Wilson, 2011). The costume that was the biggest eyesore was Froggy s military
attire. As everything in the show has a rural, old fashioned theme, he brought

India? I have studied this puzzling social fact by analyzing the data that I have
collected by interviewing over forty people who were born and are currently living
in India. This question interested me because as an Indian studying in the US, I
witnessed the disparity between the two countries acceptability towards same sex
marriages. I questioned that if same sex marriages is becoming increasingly

and admitted to having a sexual relationship with Murray. At the time,
homosexuality was illegal in the UK and so Turing was charged with gross
indecency. He was then given the choice of being imprisoned or chemically
castrated with estrogen hormone injections, choosing the latter. Turing s conviction
also meant his security clearance was revoked and he was barred from his
cryptographic consultancy for the British government. The treatments subjected
him to years of pain and mental relapses from the hormonal imbalance, acting like
a daily form of chemical torture. His once amazing brilliance slowly began to
wither as he became psychologically traumatized from the drugs. He began to shake
frequently as if he had Parkinson s disease and at one point stabbed himself in his
leg with a knife. Finally, on June 8th, 1954, Turing s cleaner found him dead. It
appeared that Turing committed suicide and poisoned himself using a cyanide laced
apple. In 1966, the annual Turing Award was established and given each year to a
person for technical contributions to the computing community. It is generally
