Reflection on first observation

When you firstenter to this 4th year classroomatSchoolNº6 you willsee
that it is a really spacious place and very well illuminated with three
windows.Thewalls of the classroomarebeautifully decorated with posters
made by students and by the teacher about La Pampa province, classroom
rules, the ABC and a very nice calendar with the students’ birthdays. Also,
there are some shelves where they keep most of the school objects (for
example glue, colour pencils, scissors, etc.) that pupils can take advantage
from when they need it. Finally, in front of the three rows of desk there is
the teacher’s desk that it is situated at the right front corner of the
classroom.
As soon as the teacher entered the classroomthe pupils greeted her in
English with a short rhyme that says “Red, yellow, green and blue, hello
teacher how are you?” and she replied “Fine thanks, and you?” and they
answeredback.Thatis something that both teacher and pupils do regularly,
as partof their routine. After that the lessonstarted. The teacher wrotethe
date on the blackboardand, then, shestarted to showthem flashcardswith
the different parts of the houseasking “Whatis this?”. This was a shortoral
activity to do some revision in which most of the pupils could
participate. As to continue with the lesson the teacher asked them to open
the book and shewrote a page on the board. They work with a book called
“Howdy Friends!” which is form by different characters that have nice
adventures throughout the different units.
Then, she explained the activity clearly (she talked in English but also in
Spanish to make it clear in case some of them could not understand
completely what they have to do), and when the children heard what the
activity was they became very excited because they seem to love that kind
of activities - whichwas“cutand glue”-. Inthis case,the topic was“Colours”
(a revision). While the pupils were doing the activity, the teacher called
some of them to look at their books so as to know how they were working
in the units learned till that day. Before the end of the lesson, they checked
the exercisealoud all together and they felt veryenthusiastic to participate.
I could observethat any time a student participated she congratulated him
or her with comments such as: “Very good!” or “Great!” as a way of
motivating them. Apart from that, in cases where students have made a
mistakeshecorrected them kindlyand gavethem sometime to think about
it and try to answeragain. Ingeneral, as the lesson lastonly 45minutes, not
all the students are capable of finishing the activity in that short period of
time, but most of them do. If they cannot finish the activity in class, the
teacher will ask to do it as homework.
Before we left the classroom, the teacher collected some glues and
scissors the students had borrowed from school to do the activity and,
finally, she said goodbye and the students greeted her.

Reflection on first observation

Reflection on first observation Thu. 6/22/2017 527 words Shared by Rocio Villoria When you firstenter to this 4th year classroomatSchoolNº6 you willsee that it is a really spacious place and very well illuminated with three windows.Thewalls of the classroomarebeautifully decorated with posters made by students and by the teacher about La Pampa province, classroom rules, the ABC and a very nice calendar with the students’ birthdays. Also, there are some shelves where they keep most of the school objects (for example glue, colour pencils, scissors, etc.) that pupils can take advantage from when they need it. Finally, in front of the three rows of desk there is the teacher’s desk that it is situated at the right front corner of the classroom. As soon as the teacher entered the classroomthe pupils greeted her in English with a short rhyme that says “Red, yellow, green and blue, hello teacher how are you?” and she replied “Fine thanks, and you?” and they answeredback.Thatis something that both teacher and pupils do regularly, as partof their routine. After that the lessonstarted. The teacher wrotethe date on the blackboardand, then, shestarted to showthem flashcardswith the different parts of the houseasking “Whatis this?”. This was a shortoral activity to do some revision in which most of the pupils could participate. As to continue with the lesson the teacher asked them to open the book and shewrote a page on the board. They work with a book called
  • 2. “Howdy Friends!” which is form by different characters that have nice adventures throughout the different units. Then, she explained the activity clearly (she talked in English but also in Spanish to make it clear in case some of them could not understand completely what they have to do), and when the children heard what the activity was they became very excited because they seem to love that kind of activities - whichwas“cutand glue”-. Inthis case,the topic was“Colours” (a revision). While the pupils were doing the activity, the teacher called some of them to look at their books so as to know how they were working in the units learned till that day. Before the end of the lesson, they checked the exercisealoud all together and they felt veryenthusiastic to participate. I could observethat any time a student participated she congratulated him or her with comments such as: “Very good!” or “Great!” as a way of motivating them. Apart from that, in cases where students have made a mistakeshecorrected them kindlyand gavethem sometime to think about it and try to answeragain. Ingeneral, as the lesson lastonly 45minutes, not all the students are capable of finishing the activity in that short period of time, but most of them do. If they cannot finish the activity in class, the teacher will ask to do it as homework. Before we left the classroom, the teacher collected some glues and scissors the students had borrowed from school to do the activity and, finally, she said goodbye and the students greeted her. Excellent.
