There are 22 students.
You started the class with a rhyme and clapping their hands, this is
very nice for them to switch into English class. The questions about
the date and the weather were good too and the flashcards you
prepared were really nice and attractive. Suggestion: when you asked
them: Is it foggy today? / Is it sunny? They just answered “yes or
no”, maybe, next time, they can answer “Yes, it is or No, it isn´t”,
children will learn it very quickly.
You are very nice with them, good rapport with children!! This is very
important for young learners, kind teachers, as you are, are
fundamental. It would also be necessary that you know their names,
personalization is very important for them.
Your voice is appropriate, it could be listened from the back of the
classroom. Good!

2. Good use of the board! Although, as I told you after the class, when
you are explaining something, it is advisable that it is you who write
on the board later, because if you speak and somebody else writes on
the board, they do not pay attention to both of you.
Before doing the listening, you asked them about the pictures on
page 36. Very good. This is always necessary and providing
scaffolding is also necessary and you did it! Well done!
As regards classroom management, you could control the whole
group perfectly well. But remember to pay attention to all the
students, the ones who are the front and those who are at the back
who are generally the ones who need more attention. For example,
there were some students who were not working and you did not
notice it.
You presented “the Time” with nice material but make sure they
know the time in Spanish first. You asked them if they knew the time
in English, but they surely did not know it in Spanish. By the way,
they did not know numbers 11 and 12 yet. Some suggestions: when
you are introducing a new topic, do not hurry, take your time to
assure yourself that they understand what you are teaching them.
There were many new concepts in very few minutes: the time (11
and 12 new), the concept “o´clock” (it was not clear that it means
“en punto” *), meals (breakfast, lunch, tea time and dinner), the
expression “It´s time for… “ and there was not enough practice, just
one thing after the other. Remember that they need practice,
repetition, oral work and then, written practice.
*you could have also explained clearly that when the time is o´clock,
the long hand is pointing at number 12, and the short one, to some
other number, for example. You should have practiced it orally
asking them what the time was. In this way, you call their attention,
you can ask to one student at the front, and then, to another one at
2
3. the back, and so on. This is a technique to keep them aware and
interested in the class too. I think there was not enough practice to
learn a new topic. I mean: first, you can ask them “What time is it?
It´s …….” using the clock , orally. Then on the board, what time is it?
And they can practice writing the time in their notebooks and they
can check the activity on the board.
When they had to complete the sentences, if they did not know the
meaning of the word “morning”, “midday” or “evening”, they could
not solve the activity (It´s …………….. o´clock in the evening, it´s time
for…..).
I have to congratulate you because, although they are in fourth
grade, you used English all the class, and Spanish, just when
necessary, excellent input! And you also encouraged all of them to
participate with good comments! Good!!
One important issue, you need to pay attention to time, it is very
important to be aware of time to finish activities before the bell rings.
As a pedagogical partner, you helped Paola a lot. You walked around
the classroom paying attention to all students’ needs. Good job!
