Analysis Of Hemingway s Big Two Hearted River
Although Ernest Hemingway and John Burroughs belonged to different generations and wrote in
different times, Hemingway s Big Two Hearted River (BTHR) and Burroughs A Bed of Boughs
(ABOB) share a particularly intimate connection. Both Hemingway s and Burroughs works are
underlined with spiritual depth and exactitude. The fishing narratives of both Hemingway and
Burroughs, are embedded with precision, and praise for the natural world. Hemingway s BTHR
parallels John Burroughs ABOB in both journey and spirit; both writers find joy, and renewal through
love for nature and total immersion into their landscape. Although, Nick s journey is a remarkably
similar one to Burroughs, Hemingway as a modernist must move beyond the condition of John
Burrough s pre war perspective in order to reconcile with the post war trauma and face the tragic
condition of the modern world. John Burroughs explains the importance of love, nothing can take the
place of love... love sharpens the eye, the ear, the touch; it quickens the feet, it steadies the
hand....What we love to do, that we do well. To know is not all; it is only half. To love is the other half
(The Art of Seeing Things 4). John Burroughs was an American naturalist and writer during the mid to
late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. His essay, The Art of Seeing Things discusses the
differences in levels of observation and the importance of both attentiveness and love within the
context of the natural world. Burroughs

Light Rail System
The feasibility of a light rail system is possible when looking at the amount of room in the city of
Pittsburgh. This light rail system would be able to help transport college students, city workers, and
other Pittsburgh citizens. A light rail system would help to thin out the heavy traffic that vastly impacts
the environment with car emissions and still leave the city with some room to expand. A light rail
system in the city of Pittsburgh could be set up to run on a straight line system that would follow a
North to South and an East to West pattern. Quite like the room to build a light rail system, the
engineers and construction builders are plentiful in the Pittsburgh region for such a project. So,
workers would not be much of a factor for constructing a light rail system. ... Show more content on

Although funding for a few hundred million dollar project would be hard to obtain, it is still possible.
It may take several years of writing grants to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation
(PennDOT), the federal government, and private Pittsburgh transportation organizations, but the
money is there. Like any major million dollar project, it would take many years to complete. The idea
of obtaining environmental permits as well as getting utility companies to cooperate is another subject
of its own that majorly impacts the project feasibility. Even with those impacts, the project is still
possible because new transportation systems overcome these factors each year. Though this type of
transit system is possible, it would take a major spokesperson or government official to get the project
passed for

Lake Descriptive Writing
A lake is no place for a watch. I think it s unreasonable to request anyone to keep time in such a place.
My tan forearm barred no watch; no stripe of pale skin to indicate a childhood subject to the
constraints of Tick and Tock. A timeless realm, the lake emancipated the soul and the body, allowing
both to mingle with nature. My bare, unpainted toes were always covered with mud from walking the
trail around Apache Lake, past the little outhouse, Carp Cove, but not as far as Hodgson s dusty old
cabin. It was difficult to see from the road, and at times I felt nobody ever went there but me. Tall
yellowed grasses embraced the water s rocky edge like a mother s protective hug. Clumps of Aspen
whispered collectively as I built forts in their midst, and Ponderosa tress stood tall and unyielding,
looking down at my imaginative creations with approval. The wind and the euphonious lilt of the
Meadowlark were ideal companions as I played and watched and wondered. ... Show more content on

Once I spotted two distinct crawdads in the shallows of a stagnant chasm near the peninsula. With a
brave hand and cleaned out pickle jar I clumsily scooped up the clawed individuals, comparing their
color and liveliness. Tiny lobsters, one dark, one light, were dropped into the blue campfire pot, tails
curling as they hissed and cooked. To my surprise, the blackened crawdad was not inedible and tasted
the same as the lighter shellfish, a discovery that led to further investigation. Books eased my curiosity
as I researched the life cycle of the common crawfish. I learned that the dark crawfish had not molted
yet and had on his old exoskeleton, a trait that had no effect on its overall

Ethics in Criminal Justice Administration Essay
Ethics in Criminal Justice Administration Analysis Lisa Myatt CJA/484 David Mailloux July 30, 2012

Corrections and parole officers are faced with dangerous situations many times and need to think
critically in order to deal with the situation ethically and professionally. Criminal justice
administration individuals all have their own ethics and behavior. Although sometimes everyone has
different ethics they must set aside their beliefs and make the right decision regardless of their feelings
in the situation. Good ethical and professional behavior is important in criminal justice administration
and in order for this to happen critical thinking is needed. Law enforcement is faced with ethical
dilemmas everyday and it is important that they handles these situations by first thinking critically so
that they can do their job ethically and professionally. I feel that law enforcement needs ethical
training because they deal with so many different situations and how they react to these situations
need to be done ethically and with professional behavior. Ethics training for law enforcement helps
them to readily recognize an ethical problem or dilemma, identify various options to address the
particular issue involved, make a rational and ethically sound choice of which option to choose, take
prompt action based upon that choice, and accept responsibility for the outcome (Gleason, 2006). The
seminar would stress some particular areas of ethical conduct that I

The Stamp Act and the Tea Act
Screaming occurred as a group of men argued while deciding to form into a group to go against things
they knew they had the rights too and to shape their powers. They were frustrated because they knew
that American s had more rights and that more could have been done. Starting from the Loyal Nine s
and wealthy families, the Sons of Liberty achieved many things , their ideas were best expressed
through the rights they determined Americans had, what roles they each played in saving those rights
and how important they thought those rights were. They got together and formed in 1765, in Boston
right after the stamp act and that s originally where they got their name. They had another name that
they were also known as called the loyalist. They had quite an amount of members and they all were
helpful in some way. The men s who leaded this party were John Adams, Samuel Adams, and Paul
Revere. Altogether those that formed the Sons of Liberty were helpful because they helped get the
group out there. The Sons of liberty had publishers, writers and they had a very good start to be out
there and become known. They did keep their little organization alittle secret, just because they didn t
want anyone to find out, along the secret meetings they had, they had secret things they said to each
other. Conducted into codes so no one can know what they were saying, it was a smart way of sharing
things to not actually reveal their stuff and ruin their plans.

Comparison of the Sumerian Gods and the Greek Pantheon

Comparison of the Sumerian Gods and the Greek Pantheon The Sumerian civilization existed an
estimated three thousand years prior to the Greeks (Powell p. 60). Although very little is actually
known about the Sumerian culture, archaeologists have unearthed ancient artifacts and clay tablets
containing cuneiform writing that have given historians bits and pieces of the stories that were told
during that time (Powell pg. 63 Figure 7.3). While the Sumerian empire ended thousands of years
before the Greek civilization began, there are striking similarities between the Sumerian gods and the
Greek pantheon, as well as a few differences. First of all, there is a substantial amount of resemblance
between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each of the Sumerian cities had a premier god that was worshipped above the others. Although the sky
god was the supreme god, it was not the most worshipped in all cities. This premier god tied to the
successes of the city as well as its fortunes, and was even thought to protect the city from harm. The
deity would be worshipped in a tall pyramid (also known as a ziggurat), which was built in the center
of the city, often on a hill or platform. This is identical to how the Greeks would build temples in
honor of their city s major deity. For example, the Parthenos (Temple of Athena) in Athens was where
the Greek god Athena was worshipped. According to Greek mythology, Athena and another god
Poseidon were in competition to see who would gain control over Athens. Poseidon gave Athens the
gift of a spring, and Athena gave the city the olive. Unfortunately for Poseidon, he was the god of the
seas and his springs were salty and not very useful for the people of Athens. However, the olive was
very useful as it provided food and oil. The olive became the main export of the city, and thus Athena
was heavily worshipped in Athens. Although the stories from the two cultures were similar in many
ways, there were a few noticeable differences. A big difference is the absence of a parallel for the
Greek god Hades. The closest thing to the Sumerians was the goddess Ereshkigal whom was more
reminiscent of Persephone than Hades. Another inequality was the Sumerian god Enki.

Benefits Of College Credit In College
Earning college credit in high school sounds like a dream for many students, and can be extremely
beneficial, but there are various downfalls. Throughout the United States there are many programs that
offer students opportunities to obtain college credits. The four most popular are Advanced
Placement(AP), International Baccalaureate(IB), College in the School (CIS), and Postsecondary
Enrollment Options (PSEO).
Advanced Placement(AP) offers rigorous, college level classes that gives students an opportunity to
gain skills that colleges recognize. To earn college credits, students must take an AP exam. AP exams
are scored on a scale of 1 to 5. A score of 5,4, or 3 mean the student did well, and is qualified to
receive college credit for that course, but anything lower than a 3 does not qualify the student for
college credits.
The second program I will be discussing is, The International Baccalaureate (IB) program. The IB
programs mission is to, develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create
a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. ( ) The IB
organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging
courses and rigorous assessment. These courses encourage students across the world to become active,
compassionate, and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also
be right. To obtain an IB diploma, students must receive a

The Current Generation Research Paper
Millions of people use the Internet for a copious amount of reasons. Almost anything one could think
to name; the Internet is sure to have it. It is probably the largest current source of entertainment with
everything from music to movies to current television series episodes. The Internet also has the most
up to date pool of current events from anywhere around the world. While news and entertainment are
of huge importance to the world, in the eyes of a student the most important use of the Internet is the
website Google. Simply said, Google makes anything and everything that is on the Internet available
to public users. This is tremendously valuable for students at all levels. How could this be a negative

From what we choose to eat to what we choose to wear, it has some effect on us. Every day, millions
of people willingly choose to get on the Internet. Carr even states that he has been spending a lot of
time online, searching and surfing and sometimes adding to the great databases of the Internet over the
past decade (Carr, 634). This raises the question: why would you partake in something that you feel is
lessening your ability? There is no simple answer to this question. One may say that they need the
Internet for research, but there are many other ways to research. However, the Internet is the easiest
and fastest way to research today. This much is already known; even Carr agrees that the Internet is a
godsend and that research that once required days can be done in mere minutes (Carr, 634). This
brings to the surface the want to use the Internet. Somewhere, no matter how deep down it is, there is
a piece of every single person that wants to take the easy route. This incessant want to make things
easier is the sole purpose of Google. According to Carr, Google is attempting to create an artificial
intelligence that is similar to a HAL like machine that could be connected directly to our brains which
is an allusion to the science fiction movie 2001: A Space Odyssey (Carr, 639). Carr seems to believe
that as we come to rely on computers, that we will be lesser than the machines that we create, much

are on the road, so it s extremely important to have someone knowledgeable and reliable as your

This phenomenal change in the international environment in which business is conducted has resulted
in increased levels of foreign direct investment by companies from developed countries in lesser
developed economies such as the Third World as economic benefits were sought through the
globalization of production as well as markets. (Hill 2011, p.5)
With the benefits being widely seen to outweigh the disadvantages smaller companies are looking for
the arrangements internationally that would best serve their interests of growth and expansion with
companies from lesser developed countries now also looking to capitalize as well by creating
synergies at the basic level by expanding their market horizons overseas, penetrating first and
expanding as demand and relationships develop. This shift in the world economy towards greater
integration and interdependence is one way of describing Globalization (Hill 2011, p.7).
Globalization can be seen as the increase of functional integration between internationally dispersed
economic activities, which is quite recent, as opposed to the older phenomenon of Internationalization

Plan Do Check Act ( Pdca )
Plan Do Check Act (PDCA) Throughout history there has been development and implementations of
methodologies that will allow faster dissemination of quality control. Some methods and tools have
provided knowledge and sustainability to the system more than others. This is the case of PDCA
initially introduce by Dr. Walter Shewhart in the 1920 s and revolutionize by Dr. W. Edwards Deming
in 1950 s as a methodology to increase quality. Deming introduce Plan Do Check Act cycle as a
learning and improvement methodology (Ransom, 2008). Under this methodology Deming emphasize
on the importance of continuous improvement and visualizing the manufacturing industry as a system
that can be improve. Ever since the introduction of PDCA cycle other performance enhance
methodologies after this one have some basic relation to PDCA. PDCA is broken down in steps as
means to make it easy for practitioners to implement. First we start with P, which stands for Plan .
Under this phase objectives, questions, predictions, and plans to implement the cycle takes place
(Who?, What?, When?, and Where?) (Ransom, 2008). Second we move to Do, this phase is
specifically developed for the purpose of education, plan implementation, documentation of problems
and observations, and data analysis. At this stage the team using this cycle can change, try out, expose,
and/or cancel the plan if there is evidence that will make it unsuccessful. Next we move to the third

Philip K. Dick And The Minority Report By George Orwell
We can t be confined to one way of thinking, and that terrifies our leaders. It means we can t be
controlled. Veronica Roth.
Various representations of the future are envisioned by many, most of which present a dystopia rather
than a utopia. This is due to the advancements being made by the modern world that raise concerns
about security and especially privacy, leading text makers to predict the worst. The issue is discussed
in the texts The Minority Report by Philip K. Dick (1956), Steven Spielberg s Minority Report (2002)
and George Orwell s 1984 (1949). Through elements such as surveillance, technology and excessive
government control, Philip K. Dick, Steven Spielberg and George Orwell create a bleak and dystopic
vision of the future.
Through falsely accusing innocent people and heavy control, a near dystopic future is exemplified in
the novella, The Minority Report (TMR) by Philip K. Dick. The story is based on pre crime which is
foreseen by three precognitives which result in a supposedly crime free society. However, it only
becomes an illusion of peace by essentially taking in individuals who have broken no law, (pg. 72.)
therefore there s a moral dilemma for the accused are being imprisoned based on the majority report.
The report is an accumulation of the two most similar reports from the three precogs as mentioned by
Dick, the existence of a majority logically implies a corresponding minority (pg. 84). This means that

Political Viewpoints In College Essay
College can be a very different experience for many people especially when it comes to your political
viewpoints. Your viewpoints in college vary a lot on your social interactions. During your
adolescence, studies show that most of your political viewpoints come from your parents. Children
tend to take in political viewpoints from their parents involuntarily (Ginsberg 148). While the child
grows older and begins contact with peers and social media, their viewpoints can possibly differ from
those of their childhood. College for a young adult is a time to express yourself and learn new things.
When being in contact with many different people and learning what they think about different topics,
you open yourself to a real life social media in which you find people who can agree with you on
topics and even disagree with you. There have been many cases in which a person has changed their
entire political opinion just through their social interactions. We as humans thrive on social interaction

What Do We Do with Howard?
Agrigreen, Inc. has done a lot of moving employees from one position to another. Either someone
chose to retire or step down, or they were promoted or transferred. Howard is a guy who obviously
does not see himself the way others may see him. They simply have different perceptions. Howards
seems like a man who tried his very best at one point. His best performance may not be equal to
another persons best performance. He was often teased due to the perception of having no work ethic.

No one attempted to identify the problem.
Howard Lineberry, Lead Surveyor
Lineberry had some education. The education that he had received was not enough to demonstrate
efficient and effective work at Agrigreen. He did well enough with his first supervisor to accomplish
the mission. Howard seems to be a man who needed direction and guidance. Without the proper
guidance, he was close to lost. As I compared his actions with his first supervisor to his actions with
his second supervisor I realized that there seemed to be a lack of performance satisfaction. This
dissatisfaction occurred as Howard was expected to do the work on his own. He had little to no
guidance in getting the tasks done. Although he perceived that his first boss was a tough one, Howard
got along well with him. He appreciated the guidance and direction that was given. This was a form of
daily training. He made an honest attempt to do well on his own, but maybe his way of doing things
were just different. Howard didn t fit into this organizational culture. I will not say that Howard did
not have any values but I will venture to say that he did not share the same values and beliefs that
many of the other workers shared. The leaders and other employees were paying attention to work
ethic and competence. If Howard is a worker worth keeping, then behavior modification would help.

To begin with, this assignment is done with Kim Seo Yeon (20100472, Sociology). National
Cranberry Cooperative Case is the study done by the Harvard Business School about a process of
warehousing from the delivery and arriving of cranberry to a manufacturing in the warehouse.
National Cranberry Cooperative was an organization formed and owned by growers of cranberries to
process and markets their berries. The handling of process fruit RP1 was highly mechanized. The
process could be classified into several operations; receiving and testing, dumping, temporary holding,
destroying, dechaffing, drying separation and bulking and bagging. The objective of the total ... Show

In addition, wet bin capacity is 3,200 barrels so, according to hourly inventory increasing rate, after
passing 5.25 hours, trucks should wait to unload berries. Moreover, overworks should be done for 22.2
hours because workers should dry 13,300 barrels of the berries, but the drying capacity is only 600
barrel per hour besides the arrival rate is 1,210 barrels per hour.
To solve this problem, I would recommend to add dryers ($25,000 per each and capacity increases 200
barrels per each) or wet bins ($5,000 per each and capacity increases 250 barrels per each) for short
term. We can suggest three options to solve this matter. First, we can add no dryers but convert 15
bins. Second, we can add a dryer and convert 6 bins too. Third, we can add 2 dryers, not to convert
any bins. As first option, we need only additional cost of $75,000, which is calculated by $5,000 x 15
bins. By practicing first option, the wet bin storage increases to 6,950, so we can cover all the arrivals
of the berries this is done for not to make trucks to wait. In the second option, when we add a dryer,
we can handle 800 barrels per hour in drying process and we can reduce the overworking time from
22.2 hour to 16.6 hour. (13,300 barrel / 800 barrel equals to 16.6 hours per a day) We can estimate
overtime saved cost and it is closely related to labor cost. Labor cost

rules. Children try to acquire these sounds through listening. By the time goes on, they have a
linguistics competence that helps them produce meaningful sounds. Students who learn a second

The Phonetic Inventory of Saudi Arabic Many research papers have talked about measuring stop
consonants voicing. There are many researchers put their attention on figuring out the difficulties of
pronouncing voicing and voiceless consonants by L2 learners such as (Binturki, 2008; Flege and Port,
1981; Al Saidat, 2010). The difference between voicing and voiceless consonants is the voicing that
occurs during the stop closure interval. The consonant is voiced when there is voicing, while if there is
no voicing, the consonant is voiceless. However, Lisker and Abramason (1964) do not see that
consonant stops (p, b, t, d, k, g) could be distinguished depending on a distinction feature like the
vocal cords voicing. For that reason, they proposed a distinction feature between voiced and voiceless
consonants which is Voice Onset Time (VOT). They defined VOT as the time interval between the
burst that marks release of the stop closure and the onset of quasi periodicity that reflects laryngeal
vibration (1964, 422). Since English voiceless bilabial stop /p/ is not found in Saudi Arabic, Saudi
speakers of English as a second language have two possible ways to pronounce it. First, they could not
care about the distinction feature, then they could

Reflective Essay On Technical Performance
Introduction In this essay I will analyse and contextualise the work of 3 key practitioners who are
currently active and influential within the classical ballet industry. I will discuss and develop key
qualities of my three chosen practitioners and identify the main objectives that have allowed them to
achieve their current high status within the industry. I will also identify, analyse and contextualise the
main performance qualities of the key practitioners work and analyse ways in which I can incorporate
these qualities into my own work. I will relate my studies of these 3 artists to my own chosen classical
variation that I have chosen to perform. I will analyse and reflect on my own advanced understanding
of my personal technical performance skills. I will use anatomical vocabulary and professional
language when discussing and reflecting on my technical performance skills, translating from the
barre to the stage with the use of stylistic knowledge and performance context. I have chosen to study
the work of three current classical artists; Alina Cojucaru, Mellissa Hamilton and Marianela Nunez. I
was introduced to Alina Cojucaru when I went to see English National Ballet s performance of Swan
Lake in 2014. Cojucaru played the joint role of Odette and Odile, and I was drawn to her due to the
contrast between the two characters she could convey through her technique. As Odette she used her

Taking a Look at Addison s Disease
Autoimmune diseases are very common. There are over 23.5 million Americans who suffer from such
diseases. Women of child bearing age and people with a family history of autoimmune diseases are
more likely to be affected by these diseases. Addison s can also occur in dogs. This type of disease is
one that is caused by the attack of healthy cells and tissue. The immune system can t tell the difference
between the healthy tissue and the bad one and it attacks the normal one creating an autoimmune
disorder. Autoimmune disorders can destroy body tissue, change the function of an organ, or cause
abnormal growth in an organ. Parts of the body that are usually affected by these disorders are joints,
muscles, blood vessels, endocrine glands, or other organs. There is a wide variety of autoimmune
diseases. More than 80 kinds of diseases have been discovered.
One common autoimmune disease is Addison s disease. Addison s occurs when your body creates
antibodies which attach onto your adrenal cortex and destroys the cells which create cortisol, and
aldosterone. This may not seem to be a big deal but, it is life threatening. Cortisol is a hormone which
responds to stress, increases blood sugar, and suppresses the immune system. . It also helps regulate
the metabolism. When there is a lack of cortisol you can have symptoms such as diarrhea, inability to
handle stress, vomiting, loss of appetite, and much more. Aldosterone works with blood pressure, and
helps regulate the salt and water

Orange Colored Lenses Research Paper
Could orange colored lenses dictate my future? Would they change the way my friends see me? Would
they help me get through high school and into college? These are just a few questions I found myself
struggling with seven years ago. In fourth grade while reading audibly, my teacher noticed I might
have a reading disability. As I skipped lines, mixed up words, and even confused words as others, my
teacher discussed the concern with my parents. Were there eye problems, was it dyslexia or a learning
disorder? Being that all of these conditions were checked, with no conclusive answer, we only knew I
was behind on my reading and comprehension skills.
Later, after taking my first bubble test in the 7th grade, a counselor called me into her office.

people at the Reservation started calling Junior an apple , not supporting his decision for leaving. They

development impacts of transportation in general, as examined by Kumares, Sinha amp; Labi (2007).
Multiple studies have revealed that investments in public transportation ultimately drives productivity
and economic growth (Kumares, Sinha amp; Labi, 2007). This paper however will move away from
highways and most common types of transit systems to focus on high speed rail and its potential
economic development impacts in the United States. By examining additional resources such as World

developments and better access to other services such as internet. As more rural Chinese left for the
bigger cities, those who returned brought back new ideas and items that might not have been

between major economic hubs in China was considerable reduced, the number of business related
travelers increased by about 70%, contributing to making China become the second largest economy

United States? * United States The Obama administration made high speed rail development one of its
priorities as early as 2009. The idea according to the Federal Railway Administration (2009), was that
increased security measures in airports, higher fuel costs as well as congested highways and airports
would make high speed train a more suitable option for travelers. In addition to that, in the midst of
the great recession, it would create much needed jobs. Six years later, not a lot of progress has been
made and this for multiple reasons including political ones. So what exactly is stopping this project
from advancing? Are there actual economic benefits for the US? High speed rail project in The United

Mt. Vesuvius Research Paper
Mt. Vesuvius is a volcano that is located near the Bay of Naples in Italy and is hundred of thousands
years old. It has erupted over 50 times but its most famous eruption was in the year 79 A.D. when it
buried the ancient Roman city of Pompeii . A witness write that the dust poured across the land like a
flood . Two thousand people died and the city of Pompeii was left abandoned for almost as many
years for each person that died. When a group of archaeologists rediscovered the site in year 1748 they
were shocked to see that the city was almost completely intact under the ash and debris from the
eruption that happened long ago. The skeletons of people and artifacts were left behind in the buried
city that was once called Pompeii. This has taught us a lot about their everyday life back so long ago.

As a matter of fact scholars say the mountain is hundreds of thousands of years old and had been
erupting for generations before the dreaded 79 A.D eruption. For example the 1780 B.C eruption was
an unusually violent one and is known today as the Avellino eruption. This eruption sent superheated
lava, ash and rocks about 22 miles into the sky. That ancient catastrophe destroyed almost every

The Use Of Avatars And 3d Virtual Worlds
In cognitive science there is a growing theory that cognitive processes develop when bodies and their
environment have real time, goal directed interactions (IEP). The human mind is stimulated and
developed when the mind, body and environment conjointly interact and influence one another.
Embodiment is comprehended as the distinctive way a body can effectively interact with its
environment through the body s sensorimotor capabilities. In today s world, modern video games have
presented a new form of embodiment that is now being studied. The study focuses on the relationship
between players, avatars and 3D virtual worlds. There is a wide debate about whether the embodiment
of avatars in modern video games can have an effect on the human ... Show more content on

As advertised by the creators of the game, The only limits are your imagination (Jens, Minecraft). This
game is a prime example on how video games can stimulate the mind with techniques such as problem
solving, collaboration, memorization, and multi tasking.
Before analyzing how a player s embodiment of an avatar and its interactions with the virtual world
have an affect on the player s mind, one must first accept and understand how the mind is affected by
the interactions of the player s body and the physical world around it. In Margaret Wilson s article, Six
Views of Embodied Cognition , she distinguishes and evaluates six claims on embodied cognition to
substantiate the theory of how the body serves the mind. The claims are as follows: first cognition is
situated (Wilson 2002, 626), second cognition is time pressured (Wilson 2002, 627), third we off load
cognitive work onto the environment (Wilson 2002, 628), fourth the environment is part of the
cognitive system (Wilson 2002, 629), fifth claim is that cognition is for action (Wilson 2002, 631), and
sixth off line cognition is body based (Wilson 2002, 633). These claims help describe different ways
embodied cognition works in the real world. Each can be compared to similar situations encountered
in modern video games.
Wilson describes the first claim; While a cognitive process is being carried out, perceptual information
continues to come in that affects processing, and motor activity is executed

Have you ever pictured something happening to the world? Isis is being very harsh to our world. They

the novel The Road by Cormac McCarthy had something very horrible happen that made the world as
we know it go away. Very few people were still alive during the novel and created a great deal of
drama in the novel. They happened to come across challenges from trying to get food, keeping warm,
and also running from the bad guys. The novel never said what exactly happened, but the readers have
many questions regarding what happened. Was there some kind of global natural disaster? Did an
asteroid collide into the earth? All the plant life was dead. The readers consider these questions

The Effect Of Ph On The Ph Of A Solution
pH is a measure of the concentration of the H3O+ ions in a solution, and buffers are solutions that
resist changes in the pH when an acid or an alkali is added. The objective of this lab was to determine
the ways in which a buffer could effect changes in pH of a solution. This was done through titrations
of phosphate solutions, acidic HCl, and basic NaOH, with distilled water. The intent was to note the
changes caused by the buffer by observing the buffering range and buffering capacity from the
standard curved created from the pH readings. A buffering range is the pH range in which a buffer has
effectively neutralized the acids and bases, while maintaining a constant pH. Buffering capacity, on
the other hand is the measure of the efficiency of buffer in its resistance to pH change. Therefore, a
good buffer with a high buffering capacity should be able to resist the changes in pH well. If the buffer
solution is titrated with a strong acid, HCl, then the pH of the solution will decrease slowly,
maintaining a constant pH value due to the presence of buffers (instead of the pH dropping in a linear
line with huge values.) Likewise, if the mixture containing buffer solution, and water are titrated with
a strong base, NaOH, then the pH of the solution will increase at a steady increments instead of the pH
values shooting up in big numbers in a linear line.
In order to test this, method of serial dilution was first utilized to find the amount of buffer solution
needed for the

Honduras, attempts to leave his home country and make it across the Mexican American border. The
Little Prince tells the story of his travels to a stranded aviator in the desert after falling to planet Earth.
While each story may seem very different on a surface level, structurally they are very much the same.
Both Enrique and The Little Prince follow the hero s journey, a common narrative structure defined by
the use of The Hero archetype and many steps that define where their path takes them. This path is not

He has grown to believe he is worthless and cannot be loved because his mother left when he was so

viewing his mother as a light in the darkness and making her presence his incentive, he is attempting

On page 49, Nazario writes:

months, these children and their mothers cling to romanticized notions of how they should feel toward

Self-Driving Trucks
Self driving trucks have become a major scare for the trucking industry. Although uber s Advanced
Technology Group is promoting the positives of the new technology, truck drivers are realizing that
their jobs are not secure. Uber believes that self driving trucks will majorly increase supply, demand,
and the amount of trucking jobs. The work that humans provide during drives is not matchable. Truck
drivers move axles, check brakes, check are hoses, and communicate with outside sources. The more
computerized jobs become, the less necessity there will be for manual labor.
Demand Relationship: This relates the prices to the quantity demanded. The article states, If the self
driving trucks are used more efficiently, it would drive down the cost of freight, which would
stimulate demand. This is an exceptional example of demand relationship in the it displays how lower
prices would raise demand. Uber thinks the demand for freight will create a greater need for truck
drivers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Uber, self driving trucks will largely increase the amount of freight that can be sold. As a
result of the supply growth, more jobs will be created. It is hard to see a correlation between self
driving trucks and a job surge for truck drivers.
Market Equilibrium: This means that supply and demand are equal. It was predicted that the demand
for more freight will rise and supply will grow in order to match the high demand. Many companies
strive for market equilibrium, so it is obvious that the trucking industry would benefit greatly in goods
and services.
Movement Along the Demand Curve: This occurs when there is a change in both price and the
quantity demanded. The article demonstrated that a decrease in the cost of freight would raise the
demand for it. The relationship between a lower price and higher demand is displayed accurately in
this article with the desire for more efficient self driving

Possible Solutions to Solve Cash Flow Problems
Cash flow is the movement of money in and out of a business. It is of vital importance for a company
continually monitoring and controling its cash flow. A shortage of cash may lead to insolvency while
an excess of cash is wasteful because it is not a productive asset. Therefore, various sources of finance
should be combined to help maintain a sound record of cash flow. However, The problem is not just to
find the money but to find it from the right sources at the right price and at the right time. (Woodcock.

Speeding up cash inflow, delaying cash outflow, cutting down expenditure and funding additional
finance are all very effective methods if applied properly according to the firm s circumstance at that
time. The firm that is faced with deteriorating debtors situation can improve its cash flow position by
managing debts efficiently. The firm, for example, may grant discounts for early payment, exact a
charge on overdue accounts, or enforce more rigorous collection procedures. However, before
undertaking a new credit policy, it is essential for the firm to weigh up the benefits of the new credit
policy against the cost of greater control because a more stringent credit policy cannot be implemented
without cost. After assessing the relative cost and benefit of the new credit policy, it is better for the
firm to start with computing the average age of the debtors if it decides to undertake a new credit
policy. If the average age of debtors rises over time, a more detailed breakdown of the age of debtors
is required in order to classify debtors by their quality, liqudity or the date of sale. The calculation of
the average age and the classification of debtors help the firm to fucus on the bad debts and decide on
the period that it is going to allow after the due date or whether to withdraw the credit and claim

  • 2. Analysis Of Hemingway s Big Two Hearted River Although Ernest Hemingway and John Burroughs belonged to different generations and wrote in different times, Hemingway s Big Two Hearted River (BTHR) and Burroughs A Bed of Boughs (ABOB) share a particularly intimate connection. Both Hemingway s and Burroughs works are underlined with spiritual depth and exactitude. The fishing narratives of both Hemingway and Burroughs, are embedded with precision, and praise for the natural world. Hemingway s BTHR parallels John Burroughs ABOB in both journey and spirit; both writers find joy, and renewal through love for nature and total immersion into their landscape. Although, Nick s journey is a remarkably similar one to Burroughs, Hemingway as a modernist must move beyond the condition of John Burrough s pre war perspective in order to reconcile with the post war trauma and face the tragic condition of the modern world. John Burroughs explains the importance of love, nothing can take the place of love... love sharpens the eye, the ear, the touch; it quickens the feet, it steadies the hand....What we love to do, that we do well. To know is not all; it is only half. To love is the other half (The Art of Seeing Things 4). John Burroughs was an American naturalist and writer during the mid to late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. His essay, The Art of Seeing Things discusses the differences in levels of observation and the importance of both attentiveness and love within the context of the natural world. Burroughs ... • 3. Light Rail System The feasibility of a light rail system is possible when looking at the amount of room in the city of Pittsburgh. This light rail system would be able to help transport college students, city workers, and other Pittsburgh citizens. A light rail system would help to thin out the heavy traffic that vastly impacts the environment with car emissions and still leave the city with some room to expand. A light rail system in the city of Pittsburgh could be set up to run on a straight line system that would follow a North to South and an East to West pattern. Quite like the room to build a light rail system, the engineers and construction builders are plentiful in the Pittsburgh region for such a project. So, workers would not be much of a factor for constructing a light rail system. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although funding for a few hundred million dollar project would be hard to obtain, it is still possible. It may take several years of writing grants to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), the federal government, and private Pittsburgh transportation organizations, but the money is there. Like any major million dollar project, it would take many years to complete. The idea of obtaining environmental permits as well as getting utility companies to cooperate is another subject of its own that majorly impacts the project feasibility. Even with those impacts, the project is still possible because new transportation systems overcome these factors each year. Though this type of transit system is possible, it would take a major spokesperson or government official to get the project passed for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Lake Descriptive Writing A lake is no place for a watch. I think it s unreasonable to request anyone to keep time in such a place. My tan forearm barred no watch; no stripe of pale skin to indicate a childhood subject to the constraints of Tick and Tock. A timeless realm, the lake emancipated the soul and the body, allowing both to mingle with nature. My bare, unpainted toes were always covered with mud from walking the trail around Apache Lake, past the little outhouse, Carp Cove, but not as far as Hodgson s dusty old cabin. It was difficult to see from the road, and at times I felt nobody ever went there but me. Tall yellowed grasses embraced the water s rocky edge like a mother s protective hug. Clumps of Aspen whispered collectively as I built forts in their midst, and Ponderosa tress stood tall and unyielding, looking down at my imaginative creations with approval. The wind and the euphonious lilt of the Meadowlark were ideal companions as I played and watched and wondered. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once I spotted two distinct crawdads in the shallows of a stagnant chasm near the peninsula. With a brave hand and cleaned out pickle jar I clumsily scooped up the clawed individuals, comparing their color and liveliness. Tiny lobsters, one dark, one light, were dropped into the blue campfire pot, tails curling as they hissed and cooked. To my surprise, the blackened crawdad was not inedible and tasted the same as the lighter shellfish, a discovery that led to further investigation. Books eased my curiosity as I researched the life cycle of the common crawfish. I learned that the dark crawfish had not molted yet and had on his old exoskeleton, a trait that had no effect on its overall ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Criminal justice administration are faced with ethical issues everyday and must deal with this ethical issues in a professional manner. Corrections and parole officers are faced with dangerous situations many times and need to think critically in order to deal with the situation ethically and professionally. Criminal justice administration individuals all have their own ethics and behavior. Although sometimes everyone has different ethics they must set aside their beliefs and make the right decision regardless of their feelings in the situation. Good ethical and professional behavior is important in criminal justice administration and in order for this to happen critical thinking is needed. Law enforcement is faced with ethical dilemmas everyday and it is important that they handles these situations by first thinking critically so that they can do their job ethically and professionally. I feel that law enforcement needs ethical training because they deal with so many different situations and how they react to these situations need to be done ethically and with professional behavior. Ethics training for law enforcement helps them to readily recognize an ethical problem or dilemma, identify various options to address the particular issue involved, make a rational and ethically sound choice of which option to choose, take prompt action based upon that choice, and accept responsibility for the outcome (Gleason, 2006). The seminar would stress some particular areas of ethical conduct that I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Stamp Act and the Tea Act Screaming occurred as a group of men argued while deciding to form into a group to go against things they knew they had the rights too and to shape their powers. They were frustrated because they knew that American s had more rights and that more could have been done. Starting from the Loyal Nine s and wealthy families, the Sons of Liberty achieved many things , their ideas were best expressed through the rights they determined Americans had, what roles they each played in saving those rights and how important they thought those rights were. They got together and formed in 1765, in Boston right after the stamp act and that s originally where they got their name. They had another name that they were also known as called the loyalist. They had quite an amount of members and they all were helpful in some way. The men s who leaded this party were John Adams, Samuel Adams, and Paul Revere. Altogether those that formed the Sons of Liberty were helpful because they helped get the group out there. The Sons of liberty had publishers, writers and they had a very good start to be out there and become known. They did keep their little organization alittle secret, just because they didn t want anyone to find out, along the secret meetings they had, they had secret things they said to each other. Conducted into codes so no one can know what they were saying, it was a smart way of sharing things to not actually reveal their stuff and ruin their plans. The stamp act was something the Sons ... • 7. Comparison of the Sumerian Gods and the Greek Pantheon Kevin November 6, 2013 Professor Comparison of the Sumerian Gods and the Greek Pantheon The Sumerian civilization existed an estimated three thousand years prior to the Greeks (Powell p. 60). Although very little is actually known about the Sumerian culture, archaeologists have unearthed ancient artifacts and clay tablets containing cuneiform writing that have given historians bits and pieces of the stories that were told during that time (Powell pg. 63 Figure 7.3). While the Sumerian empire ended thousands of years before the Greek civilization began, there are striking similarities between the Sumerian gods and the Greek pantheon, as well as a few differences. First of all, there is a substantial amount of resemblance between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each of the Sumerian cities had a premier god that was worshipped above the others. Although the sky god was the supreme god, it was not the most worshipped in all cities. This premier god tied to the successes of the city as well as its fortunes, and was even thought to protect the city from harm. The deity would be worshipped in a tall pyramid (also known as a ziggurat), which was built in the center of the city, often on a hill or platform. This is identical to how the Greeks would build temples in honor of their city s major deity. For example, the Parthenos (Temple of Athena) in Athens was where the Greek god Athena was worshipped. According to Greek mythology, Athena and another god Poseidon were in competition to see who would gain control over Athens. Poseidon gave Athens the gift of a spring, and Athena gave the city the olive. Unfortunately for Poseidon, he was the god of the seas and his springs were salty and not very useful for the people of Athens. However, the olive was very useful as it provided food and oil. The olive became the main export of the city, and thus Athena was heavily worshipped in Athens. Although the stories from the two cultures were similar in many ways, there were a few noticeable differences. A big difference is the absence of a parallel for the Greek god Hades. The closest thing to the Sumerians was the goddess Ereshkigal whom was more reminiscent of Persephone than Hades. Another inequality was the Sumerian god Enki. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Benefits Of College Credit In College Earning college credit in high school sounds like a dream for many students, and can be extremely beneficial, but there are various downfalls. Throughout the United States there are many programs that offer students opportunities to obtain college credits. The four most popular are Advanced Placement(AP), International Baccalaureate(IB), College in the School (CIS), and Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO). Advanced Placement(AP) offers rigorous, college level classes that gives students an opportunity to gain skills that colleges recognize. To earn college credits, students must take an AP exam. AP exams are scored on a scale of 1 to 5. A score of 5,4, or 3 mean the student did well, and is qualified to receive college credit for that course, but anything lower than a 3 does not qualify the student for college credits. The second program I will be discussing is, The International Baccalaureate (IB) program. The IB programs mission is to, develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. ( ) The IB organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging courses and rigorous assessment. These courses encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate, and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right. It is probably the largest current source of entertainment with everything from music to movies to current television series episodes. The Internet also has the most up to date pool of current events from anywhere around the world. While news and entertainment are of huge importance to the world, in the eyes of a student the most important use of the Internet is the website Google. Every day, millions of people willingly choose to get on the Internet. Carr even states that he has been spending a lot of time online, searching and surfing and sometimes adding to the great databases of the Internet over the past decade (Carr, 634). This raises the question: why would you partake in something that you feel is lessening your ability? There is no simple answer to this question. One may say that they need the Internet for research, but there are many other ways to research. However, the Internet is the easiest and fastest way to research today. This much is already known; even Carr agrees that the Internet is a godsend and that research that once required days can be done in mere minutes (Carr, 634). This brings to the surface the want to use the Internet. Somewhere, no matter how deep down it is, there is a piece of every single person that wants to take the easy route. This incessant want to make things easier is the sole purpose of Google. According to Carr, Google is attempting to create an artificial intelligence that is similar to a HAL like machine that could be connected directly to our brains which is an allusion to the science fiction movie 2001: A Space Odyssey (Carr, 639). Carr seems to believe that as we come to rely on computers, that we will be lesser than the machines that we create, much like in 2001 (Carr, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This phenomenal change in the international environment in which business is conducted has resulted in increased levels of foreign direct investment by companies from developed countries in lesser developed economies such as the Third World as economic benefits were sought through the globalization of production as well as markets. Some methods and tools have provided knowledge and sustainability to the system more than others. This is the case of PDCA initially introduce by Dr. Walter Shewhart in the 1920 s and revolutionize by Dr. W. Edwards Deming in 1950 s as a methodology to increase quality. • 14. Philip K. Dick And The Minority Report By George Orwell We can t be confined to one way of thinking, and that terrifies our leaders. It means we can t be controlled. Veronica Roth. Various representations of the future are envisioned by many, most of which present a dystopia rather than a utopia. This is due to the advancements being made by the modern world that raise concerns about security and especially privacy, leading text makers to predict the worst. The issue is discussed in the texts The Minority Report by Philip K. Dick (1956), Steven Spielberg s Minority Report (2002) and George Orwell s 1984 (1949). Through elements such as surveillance, technology and excessive government control, Philip K. Dick, Steven Spielberg and George Orwell create a bleak and dystopic vision of the future. Through falsely accusing innocent people and heavy control, a near dystopic future is exemplified in the novella, The Minority Report (TMR) by Philip K. Dick. The story is based on pre crime which is foreseen by three precognitives which result in a supposedly crime free society. However, it only becomes an illusion of peace by essentially taking in individuals who have broken no law, (pg. 72.) therefore there s a moral dilemma for the accused are being imprisoned based on the majority report. • 15. Political Viewpoints In College Essay College can be a very different experience for many people especially when it comes to your political viewpoints. Your viewpoints in college vary a lot on your social interactions. During your adolescence, studies show that most of your political viewpoints come from your parents. Children tend to take in political viewpoints from their parents involuntarily (Ginsberg 148). While the child grows older and begins contact with peers and social media, their viewpoints can possibly differ from those of their childhood. College for a young adult is a time to express yourself and learn new things. They simply have different perceptions. Howards seems like a man who tried his very best at one point. His best performance may not be equal to another persons best performance. The education that he had received was not enough to demonstrate efficient and effective work at Agrigreen. He did well enough with his first supervisor to accomplish the mission. Howard seems to be a man who needed direction and guidance. Without the proper guidance, he was close to lost. As I compared his actions with his first supervisor to his actions with his second supervisor I realized that there seemed to be a lack of performance satisfaction. This dissatisfaction occurred as Howard was expected to do the work on his own. He had little to no guidance in getting the tasks done. Although he perceived that his first boss was a tough one, Howard got along well with him. He appreciated the guidance and direction that was given. This was a form of daily training. He made an honest attempt to do well on his own, but maybe his way of doing things were just different. Howard didn t fit into this organizational culture. I will not say that Howard did not have any values but I will venture to say that he did not share the same values and beliefs that many of the other workers shared. National Cranberry Cooperative Case is the study done by the Harvard Business School about a process of warehousing from the delivery and arriving of cranberry to a manufacturing in the warehouse. National Cranberry Cooperative was an organization formed and owned by growers of cranberries to process and markets their berries. The handling of process fruit RP1 was highly mechanized. In addition, wet bin capacity is 3,200 barrels so, according to hourly inventory increasing rate, after passing 5.25 hours, trucks should wait to unload berries. Moreover, overworks should be done for 22.2 hours because workers should dry 13,300 barrels of the berries, but the drying capacity is only 600 barrel per hour besides the arrival rate is 1,210 barrels per hour. To solve this problem, I would recommend to add dryers ($25,000 per each and capacity increases 200 barrels per each) or wet bins ($5,000 per each and capacity increases 250 barrels per each) for short term. We can suggest three options to solve this matter. First, we can add no dryers but convert 15 bins. Second, we can add a dryer and convert 6 bins too. Third, we can add 2 dryers, not to convert any bins. As first option, we need only additional cost of $75,000, which is calculated by $5,000 x 15 bins. By practicing first option, the wet bin storage increases to 6,950, so we can cover all the arrivals of the berries this is done for not to make trucks to wait. In the second option, when we add a dryer, we can handle 800 barrels per hour in drying process and we can reduce the overworking time from 22.2 hour to 16.6 hour. (13,300 barrel / 800 barrel equals to 16.6 hours per a day) We can estimate overtime saved cost and it is closely related to labor cost. Labor cost ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are many researchers put their attention on figuring out the difficulties of pronouncing voicing and voiceless consonants by L2 learners such as (Binturki, 2008; Flege and Port, 1981; Al Saidat, 2010). The difference between voicing and voiceless consonants is the voicing that occurs during the stop closure interval. The consonant is voiced when there is voicing, while if there is no voicing, the consonant is voiceless. However, Lisker and Abramason (1964) do not see that consonant stops (p, b, t, d, k, g) could be distinguished depending on a distinction feature like the vocal cords voicing. For that reason, they proposed a distinction feature between voiced and voiceless consonants which is Voice Onset Time (VOT). They defined VOT as the time interval between the burst that marks release of the stop closure and the onset of quasi periodicity that reflects laryngeal vibration (1964, 422). This game is a prime example on how video games can stimulate the mind with techniques such as problem solving, collaboration, memorization, and multi tasking. Before analyzing how a player s embodiment of an avatar and its interactions with the virtual world have an affect on the player s mind, one must first accept and understand how the mind is affected by the interactions of the player s body and the physical world around it. In Margaret Wilson s article, Six Views of Embodied Cognition , she distinguishes and evaluates six claims on embodied cognition to substantiate the theory of how the body serves the mind. The claims are as follows: first cognition is situated (Wilson 2002, 626), second cognition is time pressured (Wilson 2002, 627), third we off load cognitive work onto the environment (Wilson 2002, 628), fourth the environment is part of the cognitive system (Wilson 2002, 629), fifth claim is that cognition is for action (Wilson 2002, 631), and sixth off line cognition is body based (Wilson 2002, 633). • 31. The Effect Of Ph On The Ph Of A Solution pH is a measure of the concentration of the H3O+ ions in a solution, and buffers are solutions that resist changes in the pH when an acid or an alkali is added. The objective of this lab was to determine the ways in which a buffer could effect changes in pH of a solution. This was done through titrations of phosphate solutions, acidic HCl, and basic NaOH, with distilled water. The intent was to note the changes caused by the buffer by observing the buffering range and buffering capacity from the standard curved created from the pH readings. A buffering range is the pH range in which a buffer has effectively neutralized the acids and bases, while maintaining a constant pH. Buffering capacity, on the other hand is the measure of the efficiency of buffer in its resistance to pH change. Therefore, a good buffer with a high buffering capacity should be able to resist the changes in pH well. If the buffer solution is titrated with a strong acid, HCl, then the pH of the solution will decrease slowly, maintaining a constant pH value due to the presence of buffers (instead of the pH dropping in a linear line with huge values.) Likewise, if the mixture containing buffer solution, and water are titrated with a strong base, NaOH, then the pH of the solution will increase at a steady increments instead of the pH values shooting up in big numbers in a linear line. Gallaudet University represents the pinnacle of education for deaf people, not only in the United States but throughout the world. The first is that all the sections are anagrams for sicknesses. The other is that each disease is missing a letter, to be used for the final solution. We figured out the connection to diseases, but were thrown of by the missing letters, unfortunately the first few we solved were plausible disease names with and without the missing letter. Did it have flavortext? If so, was it too helpful, too obscure, or about right, and why? If it was not great, do you have any suggestions for improvement? There was flavortext, we were able to figure out the answers were diseases based ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My conclusion on the rules is that the solver must form a complete loop that does not touch or intersect itself. The line must make a corner in the squares before and after passing through an orange line, and in one of the squares adjacent to a brown line. Also, the loop must pass through all orange and brown lines. I was able to solve the 5x5 and 8x8 puzzles, but I did not figure out the aha to relating the puzzle to the lower grid to get a solution. In other words, figuring out the upper puzzle was relatively obvious, whereas how to connect it to the final solution was not obvious ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The firm, for example, may grant discounts for early payment, exact a charge on overdue accounts, or enforce more rigorous collection procedures. However, before undertaking a new credit policy, it is essential for the firm to weigh up the benefits of the new credit policy against the cost of greater control because a more stringent credit policy cannot be implemented without cost. After assessing the relative cost and benefit of the new credit policy, it is better for the firm to start with computing the average age of the debtors if it decides to undertake a new credit policy. If the average age of debtors rises over time, a more detailed breakdown of the age of debtors is required in order to classify debtors by their quality, liqudity or the date of sale. The calculation of the average age and the classification of debtors help the firm to fucus on the bad debts and decide on the period that it is going to allow after the due date or whether to withdraw the credit and claim immediate payment.
