Lakota Dialects
Lakota is a Siouan language, which spoken by its people (Lakota people) belonging to the Sioux
tribes. It is one of the dialects of the Sioux language, the others being Dakota and Nakota (Powers,
2009). The term Sioux originated from Nadowe Su which means Little Rattle from the rattling sound
made by snakes before they bite. Later, Nadowe dropped, and French trappers and traders changed Su
to Sioux. Spoken by more than 30,000 people in the US and Canada and it, therefore, takes number
five of the most spoken native languages in the United States. Lakota is one of the three major
regional varieties comprising of Western Dakota and Eastern Dakota. Western Dakota also was known

Army continued causing many deaths among its people. Although the Lakota initially defeated the
Army, they were later defeated in 1877 forcing them to sign a treaty that ceded Black Hills to the US.
Since then, they ve confined to Western South reservations of Dakota (Irvine Gal, 2008). Their
language was put on paper in 1840 by missionaries, and it has since then evolved. The Language
originating from the creation of the tribe is now almost forgotten. The reason as to why the language is
dying is because the Lakota speaker is averaged to be 65 and they are dying without replacing new
generations (Powers, 2009). Surveys show that transmission of the language to children stopped in the
mid 1950s. Also, there are only 2,000 people who are first language Lakota speakers. This number is

Prevention For Disease Control And Prevention
According to the forecasted statistics of Center for Disease Control and Prevention (2014), the public
health research will most likely provide a better diagnostic resolution to the health concern of FXS in
2020 (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2014). The agency based its claim from the steady
decline of families reporting that they are having a hard time dealing with FXS. Per CDC (2014), this
only means that the public is becoming more aware of this condition. Their participation contributes to
the advancement of knowledge content on this abnormality (Center for Disease Control and
Prevention, 2014). CDC scientists works hard in order to establish preventive services and
interventions to further help out in treating this condition. According to department head, Dr. Grossee,
the challenges in diagnosing FXS remain to be critical, but with the presence of various measurements
that aid in both research and diagnosis of the disorder, different collaborative procedures are being
established which may be accessible and available in the next years to come (Center for Disease
Control and Prevention, 2014).
Treatment for Fragile X Syndrome FRAXXA, one of the leading companies that is in search for a cure

Irac of Negligence
Introduction: In Rebecca Zorba s Restaurant case, the main issue is whether negligence exists of the
defendant? There are three prerequisites must be present before the tort of negligence can arise: a duty
of care must be owed by one person to another; there must be a breach of that duty of care; and
damage must have been suffered as a result of the breach of duty. (FoBL, 2005, p70) In addition,
another element must be satisfied to prove negligence is the causation. This essay will analysis
Rebecca v. Zorba s with these four issues. IRAC Process No. 1 Does Zorba s Restaurant own a duty of
care to Rebecca Disasteropoulos? There are two common factors that must exist before the law says a
duty of care exists, which are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
IRAC Process No. 4 Is there any defenses can be rise? There are two defences to an action in
negligence: contributory negligence and voluntary assumption of risk. (FoBL, 2005, p83) This case
only involves contributory negligence. According to section 26 of the Wrongs Act 1958 (Vic.), the
result of a successful plea of contributory negligence will be an apportionment of damages. So, if a
defendant is a negligent without any contributory negligence by the plaintiff, the plaintiff will receive
100 per cent of the damage, but if the plaintiff is held to be contributory negligent to the extent of 40
per cent, then the plaintiff will only receive 60 per cent of the damage. (FoBL, 2005, p84) For
instance, the case of Liftronic Pty Ltd v. Unver[10], the defendant (Liftronic Pty Ltd) was found liable
in negligence but Unver s damages were reduced by 60 per cent due to his contributory negligence. In
this case, Rebecca had seen the waiter wiping the floor, and assumed that all of the moisture had been
cleared away. Then she did not ask the waiter about the damp floor, continue to dance vigorously.
Therefore, the defendant could apportion part of damages by contributory negligence. Conclusion: To
sum up, based on the law of negligence, the issues and precedents, Rebecca could win this case by
legal process. Because the defendant Zorba s Restaurant owns a duty of care to Rebecca, the
restaurant has breached that duty of care;

Swot Analysis And Porter s Five Forces Of Competition
Business strategists often use strategic planning frameworks such as SWOT analysis and Porter s five
forces of competition. These frameworks aid organizations think about the sorts of inquiries they want
to ask and the information that they need to put in consideration before making any business
decisions. They both help in evaluating company s strengths and weaknesses associated to the industry
s opportunities and challenges. SWOT can be defined as a more general and overall assessment, while
the Five Forces model is more single growth decision. SWOT is a simple evaluation of the company s
current situation based on strengths and weaknesses, as well as a look at opportunities and possible
threats as the company moves forward in the industry. To conduct this analysis, company managers
often set up a table that includes main points in each of the four SWOT classifications. Strengths and
weaknesses are evaluated in relation to how your company currently deals against competitors.
Identifying opportunities and threats includes suggesting future events or direction. The Five Forces
model includes five factors in a competitive framework. They include the bargaining power of
suppliers, the bargaining power of buyers, competitive rivalry, threat from substitutions and threat of
new entries. Five Forces analysis is used to find out the competitive advantages the business has in
each part. As a product reseller, for example, it helps to identify your relative bargaining power

How Did The French Revolution Influence Art
The French Revolution and the Art it Influenced
Liberty, equality, fraternity, or death; the last, much the easiest to bestow, O Guillotine! wrote the
famous author Charles Dickens, in his classic book, The Tale of Two Cities. The French Revolution
(1789 1796) was a fight for liberty and equality, which ultimately led to the execution of Queen Marie
Antoinette and King Louis XVI, by way of guillotine. And, eventually Napoleon Bonaparte became
the ruler of France. This was a transforming time in not just France s history, but European history and
World history. The people of France were fed up with the monarchy and the burden of high taxes, as
the monarch rulers squandered money away while the people faced famine and poverty. The
Revolution was so powerful that artists not only painted about it, but they became revolutionaries
themselves, like Jacques Louis David, who is famous for his works, Oath of the Horratii, and
Napoleon Crossing the Alps. In 1830, the second French Revolution broke out and this was known as
the Three Glorious Days , in which the people of France protested Charles X after he imposed
ordinances that prevented freedom of the press and increased the power of his monarchy ( French
Revolution , n.d.). The famous allegorical painting by Eugene Delacroix, Liberty Leading the People,
is a historical depiction of the second French Revolution and illustrates the connection between
socioeconomic and political issues, and art. This paper will look at David s Napoleon Crossing the
Alps, and Delacroix s Liberty Leading the People and analyze the impact of the French Revolution on
art of those periods.
Jacques Louis David (1748 1825) was one of the most famous Neoclassist painters, as well as a
devout revolutionary in 19th century France. He painted works that some consider propaganda of the
time, yet he did so in pure Neoclassical fashion (Pollitt, n.d.). Eventually, he became the personal
painter for Napoleon Bonaparte, as he continued to support the revolution through art. In Napoleon
Crossing the Alps, we see a diagonal, yet static composition. The diagonal that is created by the horse
is reminiscent of Baroque figures, yet it lacks the movement that the Baroque style portrayed so well.

Inuit population. The environmental assessment panel concluded this knowledge gap was
compounded by Nalcor s decision to exclude Lake Melville from the environmental assessment from
detailed study. Nalcor based this decision on their prediction that there would be no measurable
impacts downstream. (Make Muskrat Right, 2016). Lake Melville: Avativut, Kanuittailinnivut
research program was initiated by the Nunatsiavut Government, the Labrador Inuit self government
body to do more research on the downstream effects. An independent team of scientific experts from
Canada and the USA carried out research to fully understand the effects of how Muskrat Falls would
impact Lake Melville s eco system and the communities that depend on it for a living and also to
anticipate the potentially constituting impacts of changing climate. Within the findings is evidence
from Harvard University scientists of detrimental impacts on methyl mercury concentration in the
Lake Melville ecosystem and increased Inuit exposure to methyl mercury from Muskrat Falls. These
findings are substantially different than predictions presented in the Lower Churchill EA by Nalcor
Energy. In light of this new scientific evidence, the Nunatsiavut Government has prepared, in this
report, a new set of conclusions with respect to the downstream impacts of Muskrat Falls and
stemming from this set of science based policy recommendations to protect Inuit health and well

President Barak Obama
In November 2008, Democratic Presidential Candidate Barak Obama became the first African
American President to the United States. He had coined the word change to his first campaign,
insuring Americans that if he were elected there would be change . Through two terms the Obama
Administration has demonstrated the most controversial change of all, the passage of the Affordable
Care Act, a health reform law enacted in March of 2010. With many flaws evident in the roll out of the
Affordable Care Act, we can now question should the President and Congress repeal it and start over
from scratch, as many GOP members and critics have suggested; or should all parties attempt to fix
the evident flaws through bi partisan negotiation and action Many Americans are uncertain about what
exactly the Affordable Care Act is. The Affordable Care Act is the nation s latest health care reform
law. It was enacted in March of 2010. It is composed of two pieces of legislation. The first piece of
legislation is the Patient Protection and Affordable Care act; also referred to as PPACA. The second is
the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act or HCERA. The Patient Protection and Affordable
Care Act has a specific agenda and is ideally supposed to provide the following: Access to
comprehensive coverage to all, prohibit restrictions due to pre existing conditions or health status,
ensure affordable coverage, and strengthen public programs. The PPACA prohibits insures from

How Does Shaving Really Work
Does shaving really make hair grow back thicker?
A lot of people believe that they could have thicker hair after shaving but what if we apply this
concept on peoplewho see their doctor to get thicker hair? Scientifically it does not soundreasonable
because hair growth and density is subjected to various factors such as genetic, biological and
geographical factor and many more. Hair growth and thickness is determined by some specific cells
below the surface of the outermost layer of skin, called hair follicle. Hair follicle regulates hair
growth, colour, density as well as thickness. So if you say that some products may grow your hair
thicker by boosting your hair follicles that makes sense.

King Arthur Chivalry
King Arthur is one of the most famous leaders in our world s history. No one knows whether or not
King Arthur ever existed. Either way, he still was very impactful on our world and continues to
influence our world today. Nick Bettis states, That future generations turned him into legend... That is
the real significance of King Arthur. We invented him because we have an inherent need for what he
represents. He symbolizes our ideals, which makes the most authentic part of us invested in his legacy.
King Arthur invented the idea of chivalry. Chivalry was a code used by the Knights of the Roundtable
that included various qualities that were to be expected in an ideal knight such as wisdom, courage,
temperance, and justice. All of the knights lived and died by this code. Many different texts written

battle, King Arthur and Sir Mordred are tasked to fight each other. In the end, they kill each other, and
Arthur s sword, Excalibur, is returned to the Lady of the Lake. It would be very hard for a man to fight
his own son no matter how evil the son was. King Arthur believed it was his duty to face off with his
son. Arthur states, No, tide me death, tide me life. Now I see him yonder alone, he shall never escape
mine hands. For at a better avail shall I never have him. Arthur was determined to fight Sir Mordred
despite the fact that Mordred was his son. Arthur did the right and just thing when he fought his son.
Amy Farrell points out, The chivalric virtues of wisdom, faith, charity, and justice were among the
many ideals of the Knights Code of Chivalry in the Middle Ages. So Arthur was very chivalrous when
he fought his son. King Arthur knew it was he duty to fight his son, but it was also the just thing to do.
For this reason, Arthur was very chivalric in this

The Impact Of Agricultural Innovation On Farm...
Introduction
Technology has helped farming for the positive by: increasing yield productivity, using GPS tracking
to decrease human error, and using drones to create maps. Now how is technology able to do all these
things you may ask, it s simple. According to the website Pressroom , A new report by the
International Food Policy Research Institute measures the impacts of agricultural innovation on farm
productivity, prices, hunger, and trade flows as we approach 2050 and identifies practices which could
significantly benefit developing nations ( Agricultural Technologies Could Increase Global Crop

Now what happens if you can t buy the best available seed treatments in technology? No problem.
According to the website Beale (2015) it states, If farmers can be helped to obtain simple
technologies, income can rise, and they can accumulate bank balances and collateral (p. 1). As shown,
you don t need all the high expensive technology to make a profit, all you need is something simple in
technology to change your yield productivity for the better. For many years farmers have dealt with
problems during plantations season whether it be droughts, insects, or other issues, but what if
technology could help you with that? GM traits, such as insect and herbicide tolerance, help to
increase yields by protecting the yield that would otherwise be lost due to insects or weeds (Do GM
crops increase Yield?, 2012, p.1). Thanks to recent help by technology, farmers have been able to
reduce this problem by using genetically modifying crops, allowing them to increase their yields
dramatically for the better. If it wasn t for all these extraordinary technological help that there is today
in the world of farming, it wouldn t be as easy or efficient for farmers, thus not allowing farming to be
where it is today.
GPS Decreasing Human Error Thanks to technology in farming, GPS helps the productivity of a farm,
helps stop human errors, and helps fields. The technology in GPS can help a lot in farming, according
to Virginia Tech University farming expert, Tim Mize, who states, With

Weather And Weather In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
Mary Shelley s Frankenstein was published in 1818, and is now famous as one of the pioneering
science fiction novels. Mary Shelley herself is sometimes even referred to as the mother of science
fiction. While her work has been scrutinized numerous times by feminists and moral critics, in recent
times ecologists have also been examining her novel. Ecocriticism, while still a relatively new field of
criticism, is highly interested in how weather and natural events effected both the writing and plot of
the novel. Ecocriticism of Mary Shelley s Frankenstein focuses on the weather in the novel itself, the
eruption of the Tambora Volcano in 1815, and the monster as symbolism for weather in the early
1800s.
Weather plays an important role in the overall tone and mood of Mary Shelley s Frankenstein. It helps
to set the tone for the horror and tradgedy of the story. In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, the weather
plays a significant part all through out the novel, but particularly during the scenes taking place on
Walton s ship and the scenes where Victor interacts with his creation.
The letters Walton writes to his sister give the reader lots of details that paint a picture of what the
weather was like during the time. Walton explains that he is looking for the north pole, a land very
different from where he comes. He describes it as a land of near eternal summer. In contrast to this,
both the area Walton hails from and the physical location of his ship are in much colder climate.

Assyrian Empire Essay
For a few centuries after the death of Shamshi Adad I, Assyrian cities were subjugated by a succession
of outsiders: Babylonians under Hammurabi, Hittites and Mitanni Hurrians. From 1791 to 1360 A.D.
control over Assyria passed back and forth, although Assyria itself remained more or less stable. After
a power struggle between the Hittites and Mitanni, the Hittites successfully broke the power of the
Mitanni in the region. Assyria then began to take control over territories that had belonged to Mitanni.
The Hittites battled with the Assyrians, but the Assyrian king Ashur Uballit stamped out any
remaining Mitanni or Hittite control over northern Mesopotamia.
The Middle Empire
King Ashur Uballit, who ruled from c. 1353 to 1318 B.C., succeeded in gathering all former Mitanni
regions under his control. He also battled the Hurrians, Hittites and the Kassite king of Babylon. Ashur
Uballit married his daughter to the Babylonian king, angering the Babylonian people. They promptly
slew the king and replaced him with a pretender to the throne. King Ashur Uballit then invaded
Babylon, killed the pretender and placed another Kassite royal on the throne. King Ashur Uballit

Life In Industrialized Cities In The 19th Century
All change is hard at first, messy in the middle and gorgeous at the end (Sharma). Change is what
helps improve the world we live in. During the Industrial Revolution in the eighteenth and nineteenth
centuries, the way people live was drastically changing. In the beginning, living conditions in cities
were terrible, but as regulations were put into effect and as time passed, these living conditions greatly
improved. Life in industrialized cities was an improvement over life in the country as a result of the
Industrial Revolution because of improvements in transportation, working conditions, and the creation
of job opportunities.

Workers in the cities were unhappy with the working conditions and decided they needed to do
something about it: Organized into strong unions and large political parties, workers were able to
campaign for changes in the law (Clare 48). Workers were able to unite in the form of unions. These
unions fought for better working conditions which led to laws improving working conditions. At first,
city life was extremely poor. This was completely changed with new laws and regulations: Laws were
passed requiring safety standards in factories, setting minimum age limits for young workers,
establishing schools for children whose parents both worked, and creating other standards for the
protection of workers (Newton). As a result of poor working conditions, restrictions were created
which improved working conditions. This made life in the cities better than life in the country because
most of the jobs were located in the cities and these improved working conditions led to better job

The Disaster Planning Or Management
Although there were numerous predictions that a category 4 or 5 could hit New Orleans, very little
disaster planning or management was accomplished before Katrina hit in August 2005 (Lalwani, et al.,
2007, p10). After Katrina made landfall August 29th, several sections of the levee system collapsed
including levees protecting the Ninth Ward (Lalwani, et al., 2007, p10). The manmade MRGO channel
caused the problems it was predicted; the channel increased the power and the size of the waves that
destroyed many levees (Heerden, Kemp, Bea, Shaffer, Day, Morris, Fitzgerald, and Milanes, 2009,
p306). By early September, people were forcibly evacuated and the storm displaced more than 1.5
million people (Lalwani, et al., 2007, p10). According to Lalwani, et al. (2007, p10), Katrina was the
most destructive and costliest natural disaster in the history of the United States, with an estimated $75
billion worth of damage. Months after the hurricane, 3,200 people were unaccounted for and many of
the low lying areas, most of which were poor and minority neighborhoods, were still under water.
People were stranded in their homes or at evacuation centers without food or water. Those in charge
did not supply those in need with aid in a timely manner that is expected. According to Ripley,

Analysis Of Don Sabo s Pigskin, Patriarchy, And Pain
When I hear the word patriarchy , the first thing I think about is male dominance. Our society has a
dangerously narrow view of masculinity, which limits what a man is allowed to be. Phrases like nice
guys finish last , stop acting like a girl , or be a man are told to boys at a young age. In Don Sabo s
article Pigskin, Patriarchy, and Pain , he shines the light on intermale aggression by sharing his
experience as a young football player and the detrimental risk upon ones body in the football culture.
The fact that the football field is an all male space connects it to patriarchy. It isn t just about men
dominating women, but also about men dominating other men. We become adept at taking the feelings

Sabo tells his readers I learned to be an animal. Coaches took notice of animals. Animals made first
team. Being an animal meant being fanatically aggressive and ruthlessly competitive (7). This shows
that the interference of acknowledgment of ones emotions caused by the normalized pain of injuries
and the tough love generated throughout the sport is unacceptable if you want to be seen. The
dogmatic belief of pain is more important than pleasure (10) is continuously being passed down
through generations of teams. Society is teaching boys to look at taking pain as a badge of honor and
courage. I learned that pain and injury are part of the game (6). Most people want to get into sports or
activities to have fun, but there are others, like Sabo, who play a sport to win a reward. Like a young
child who learns to dance or sing for a piece of candy, I played for rewards and payoffs (3). In high
school, I remember the teenage boys who succeeded in football were well known across the school,
dated the girls they wanted, and were accepted for the tough guys they seemed to be. Winning at
sports meant winning friends and carving a place for myself within the male pecking order (3).

sixties, meant a career instead of getting stuck in the steel mills (4). Football is the number one

Prince Caspian By Cs Lewis Analysis
In C.S Lewis s book Prince Caspian, he uses this idea of re enchantment. Throughout the book, he
talks about the past. How things used to be in the times of old, and how they are different now. Re
enchantment is the idea of going back to the old way of thinking. People now of days have a sort of
disconnect with the world around them. They are less enchanted or less aware or connected with
things in nature (Taylor). Lewis talks about this in his novel. He brings up several occasions where
characters are thinking about, going back to, or being taught about the past. Lewis also brings up both
sides of the argument. There are groups of people who don t want to go back to the enchanted times.
They want to move forward in thinking and acting and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A person, while they should want to be connected with nature, should not lose their connection with
religion. That is why Lewis puts the Greek Figure Bacchus in his stories. Bacchus brings with him a
large entourage and parting. A symbol of the joy in re enchantment. One of the girls that Lewis rights
about, Susan, notices this and says, I wouldn t have felt safe with Bacchus and all his wild girls if we d
met them without Aslan (339). Aslan is a symbol of Jesus in all of Lewis s stories. In The Lion the
Witch, and the Wardrobe, Aslan is sacrificed on a stone table, as Jesus is sacrificed on the cross for our
sins; Now I will kill you instead of him as our pact was and so the Deep Magic will be appeased
(181). Lewis wants people to grow their relationship with nature but he does not want them to lose
their relationship with God. He does not want them to replace their love for God with their new love
for nature. What he actually wants re enchantment to do is to bring people closer to God. Bacchus, for
example, is good to be around and enjoy a party. But if Aslan was not there it would be not safe. God
is the reason that nature exists in the first place. One should find the beauty in nature by being
connected with it. Once a person finds the beauty in nature they should praise God for it because he is
the one who made so

Why I Am A Volunteer Program

Introduction
Dovercourt School is a bilingual school which provides English and Chinese program. The school
philosophy is to believe that the students need to be engaged to be deeply successful in their learning.
They believe that the students will be successful by persisting studying, overcoming obstacles, and
delighting in accomplishing their work.
I began to be a volunteer to read mandarin stories to students in mandarin grades three and four in
Dovercourt School in Oct 14 and Oct 16. On the one hand, I believe that volunteering activity can
create my credibility, build self confidence, develop self awareness, and share the vision. On the other
hand, the motivation behind volunteer activity will benefit for those students who need help improve
their mandarin knowledge. I
How was this activity chosen?
When I picked the volunteer project, I have been the volunteer in my son s school for several years. I
like to be a volunteer to participate the activity with kids since they are so creative and lovely.
Furthermore, the most important point is that I would like to observe my son s development closely.
First, I contacted my son s Chinese teacher Ms. Lennon, who is very strict and responsible, and tell
her my requirement. She was very supported my decision and let me to read stories to her students.
Therefore, I became a volunteer to read mandarin stories this week for my son and his classmates.
On this Monday, she emailed me to ask me whether I can come and

The Importance Of Respect
Respect can be displayed in numerous ways which may be verbal or none verbal dependent upon the
individual. My aim is to demonstrate a clear outline of respect touching upon subjects such as, human
rights, and values. Respect can be as straightforward as manors such as please and thank you ,
although many may not always display this. Respect is dignity for every individual, mutual
acknowledgment from one individual to another portraying thoughtfulness and equality. (Nhina le,
2016). Respect has changed outstandingly over the years which effects the way we live today. Morally
It is of significance to include others without preconceptions or exceptions no matter of differences
such as ethnicity or beliefs. (Joyce Catlett and Robert w firestone 2009) respect and human rights
interlink, as in 1998 the humans right act came into power which is built up of 30 articles e.g. right to
life which states that nobody including the government can try to end your life (ref article) these rights
are about respect and belong to everyone.
VALUEs
Values are personal attributes of importance which we are passionate about, gained through life and
experiences. Values certainly influence the opinions we have and the choices we make, as these are
personal thoughts and felling of what we care about. (Hayden, 2006)
Values affect the way we choose to live our life furthermore the way we act towards others and their
life.(REF) As we develop as individuals many factors such as age, wisdom and life experiences are
likely to have an impacted value s now held in comparison to ones held in younger life, as growth,
knowledge and life experience act towards shaping us as individuals and the way we may view things.
Values are not factual nevertheless there are no right or wrong values as these are personal to each and
every individual. (x2ref)
changes were made, which has a huge influence throughout the world.
RESPECT many may say respect should be earned, but in certain instances, this is not always
possible, for ex; when
holding the door for someone who is walking behind you is effortless human respect, that is morally
expected to be given and reciprocated. showing respect for someone does not necessarily mean you

Char Ali Biography Essay
In 1959, Ali went on to win Amateur Athletic Union National Title of the Heavyweight Division as
well as the Golden Glove championship. These first 3 awards Ali won was just the start of many to
come, even awards that had nothing to do with his talents in the ring. 1960, Ali beat Zbigniew
Pietrekowski, from Poland, to win the Olympic Gold Medal. Ali was known for his footwork and
possessing a powerful jab. To this day he is known as one of the greatest fighters in boxing history.
After this he was heralded as an American Hero, he boasted about his skills before fights and often
said float like a butterfly, sting like a bee. In 1964 Ali knocked out Sonny Liston for the Heavyweight

Ali s Second Life I like to say that this is Ali s second life but really it is his life outside of boxing. Ali
did spiritual searching and joined the Nation of Islam in 1964. Here Ali first called himself Cassius X.
Two years later he began a different type of fight and refused to acknowledge the military after being
drafted, Ali said he was practicing to be a Muslim Minister and that his religious beliefs prevented him
from fighting in the Vietnam War. In 1967 the U.S. Department of Justice pursued a legal case against

Discuss The Advantages Of The North And South In The Civil...
The North and South both had many advantages in the civil war. The North had more advantages
which was a main reason that led to them winning the war. The North had a population of 22 million
and the South had a population of 5.5 million. The North Had a very large advantage in population.
Perhaps the North s biggest advantage was their network of roads, canals, and railroads. The North
had 22,000 miles of railroad track to move soldiers and supplies through the north. The South only
had 9,000 miles of track. The war improved the north s economy. The production of goods such as
coal, iron, wheat, and wool increased. For the north, exports to Europe doubled. In the South exports
decreased because of the Union blockade. The Union had money with a more developed economy,
banking system, and currency called greenbacks (Deverell White 513). The South had to start printing
its own money. Some states printed their own money, which led to financial chaos. Finally, the Union
took advantages of its strengths. Union general ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

experience with guns and horses because they lived in rural areas. The South s best advantage was
their strategy. It only had to defend itself until the north grew tired of fighting. The south was fighting
on their own soil that they were familiar with. It caused the north to travel large distances, which made
them have to maintain long supply lines. The geography helped the south because of the wilderness
and rivers in the south made it hard for union to travel. The south also hoped to wear down the north

the reader to identify an extensive range of characters, with varying social statuses, backgrounds and

throughout the trial also enables the reader to view other s predispositions of black people, as well as
Scout s detached insight into the case as a young girl, and her reflection of it as a woman, creating a

Texas Christian University is a private institution located in one of the nation s largest metroplexes.
Like many other privately funded universities, it has succumbed to one of the most concerning issues
for millennials and their parents today: increasing tuition annually leading to the overall problem of
student debt sweeping the country. Since 2010, tuition has increased by $12,580 for TCU students,
creating an increasingly large burden for students who value a small knit community at a university

Tuition rose by 4.8 percent, increasing it from $40,680 to $42,580 per year without room and board
(Watson). This tuition increase may seem like a small amount in the grand scheme of things; however,
for many students that is monstrous jump in price. For many students, that rise in tuition may be the
deciding factor between returning to TCU or transferring to a university with a smaller impact on their
wallets. While the tuition increase is a turnoff for current students at TCU, it has not proven to affect
retention rate, which is 91 percent. (TCU Financial Aid). Although TCU has a good retention rate, it is
coming from a specific group of people, with 77 percent of our student body being white and from the
upper middle class who are able to afford the tuition of a private university. This has a negative effect
on the diversity at TCU, culturally and racially, which could be considered a turnoff to some potential
students. We also have a large amount of students choosing to transfer in as juniors to and pay for two
years instead of four. What TCU should be most worried about is the effect a varying tuition may have
on a prospective student, rather than the current students. Chancellor Boschini and the people working
at the Financial Aid office have the power to fix the issue regarding tuition and to make TCU students
and their families happier with their choice. If they listen and start the ball rolling, then other

A Memorable Moment In My Life
I remember this tragedy like it was this morning. My aunt was out of town, so I was staying with my
first cousin Andrew. I woke up fairly early for a weekend and had a cup of the best dark roast from
Starbucks in my pink and white polka dot coffee cup, along with 2 tablespoons of rich french vanilla
creamer. With my coffee, I went to go sit outside to listen to the bird s chirp, get a bit of fresh air and
clear my head for the long day ahead of me. In my cousin s backyard, they have a tall fogged glass
patio set, sitting upon the rustic wood patio. Sitting in the backyard made me feel as though it was just
me and nature herself, so put together, beautiful and calm. It was black Friday and my cousin and I

Struggles of the Dalit Movement in Anand Patwardhan’s...

Anand Patwardhan s documentary Jai Bhim Comrade is about Dalit movement and struggle for

The three hour long movie covers the time period of fourteen years, incorporating layered, personal

A Doll s House Gender Essay
Throughout much of English literature, gender and sex have been carefully analyzed. Often, a literary
character can be identified as either male or female simply based on the character s behavior or on the
way they are described by the author. Gender is not the biological traits that society uses to assign a
person into either female or male; this is called sex. Gender is the repeated socialization over time that
leads men and women to fall into a false sense that they are acting naturally, rather than following a
socially constructed role. In A Doll House , Henrik Ibsen appoints specific stereotypical gender roles
to each of his characters to show how gender has been constructed by social expectations. One of the
most obvious issues that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Male roles in A Doll House are presented through two characters: Torvald Helmer and Nils Krogstad.
In the first place, Torvald Helmer is a mirror image of the stereotypical male gender. To him, social
expectations surrounding his gender must be met. He holds on to the belief that a man s role in
marriage is to protect and guide his wife. Also, Torvald believes that all husbands have a right to their
wives bodies. He asks Aren t I your husband ? (Isben 832) after Nora resists having sex with him. This
demonstrates how male figures of the 19th century thought they had all the power, especially when
behind closed doors. As Parker (2003) describes, in common Victorian society, the husband did not
view their wives as equals but rather an amusement or possession . Torvald enjoys the idea that Nora
needs instruction and is quite eager to show her how to dance the tarantella. Torvald is very
overbearing and treats his wife Nora like a doll. The Helmer household acts as an enclosure to shelter
the entire family from the cruelties of the outside world. Another stereotypical trait of Torvald Helmer
s is that he has a steady job and is very conscious of his appearance in the community. He has the
desire to stay in good rankings thus fires Krogstad from the bank as to not make [himself] ridiculous

Oppositional Defiant Disorder And Mental Health Services
Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) is one of the most common clinical disorders in children and
adolescents (Nock, Kazdin, Hirpi Kessler, 2007). Greene et al. (2002) defines ODD as a recurrent
pattern of developmentally inappropriate levels of negativistic, defiant, disobedient, and hostile
behavior toward authority figures . ODD primarily consists of stubborn (e.g., tantrums) and aggressive
behaviors that the child attempts to rationalize based on the circumstances rather than view as
consequential and problematic (Kazdin, 2010). Therefore, ODD can have serious implications for the
child s functioning at home, in school, and in the community, so parents of children with ODD are
more likely to utilize child mental health services (Kazdin, 2010). The history, symptoms, diagnosis,
prevalence, age of onset, duration, risk factors, comorbidity, and treatments of ODD will be discussed,
as well as the rationale behind the revisions from the fourth (DSM IV) to fifth editions (DSM 5) of the
Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. The ODD diagnosis was introduced by the
Group for the Advancement of Psychiatry in 1966 and appeared for the first time as a distinct
child/adolescent onset disorder in the third edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental
Disorders (DSM III) in 1980 (Nock et al., 2007). In the 35 years since its induction however, not much
more has been learned about the disorder because the majority of studies combine both ODD and

High School Near Future Research
High School is a completely different compared to middle school. For the first time ever, your going
to have to think about your future and what will be the best thing for you in the long run. Some of you
already have an idea of what you see yourself doing in the future, but the rest of you may not have a
clue what you want to be. When I was in your position, I was repeatedly asked What do you want to
be in the future. I always responded back that I was not sure yet. However, I was trying to completely
avoid that topic as I didn t want to worry about any of that stuff. To this day I m not 100% sure what I
want to be as I believe that all the puzzles will join together in the near future.
To be successful in high school, you do not have to have everything planned out, but you should have
at least a small idea of what you are going to do. This will be completely up to you as you have to
chose what you like the most or in other words what makes you happy. If you want to join a club or a

Essay on Ambiguity in Reason in Orlando Furioso
Ambiguity in Reason in Orlando Furioso
Ariosto addresses an underlying battle between reason and lust in Orlando Furioso, similar to the clash
between duty and desires in Vergil s Aeneid, yet opposite in interpretation. Vergil presents the message
that duty overpowers desires, while Ariosto shows the opposite effect when he equates reason, rules,
and authority with duty, and love, passion, and lust with desire. The mettlesome charger represents

Later, Rinaldo can no longer keep his promise to Ruggiero, and he blames Aymon for this failure. He
denounces his father and shuns filial respect. Aymon ignores Rinaldo s pleas and [means] to dispose of
his daughter as he [pleases] (44.75). Clearly, Aymon sees Bradamant as a piece of property. He wants
to gain money and a good name to honor his family through Bradamant s marriage. He does not care
whether or not love kindles between his daughter and the man she will spend her life with; he only
seeks control over his daughter and the situation. Even though Rinaldo is acting against his father,
therefore defying his duties and authority, his innocent intentions justify his action while Aymon s
actions display his self centered motives.
Beatrice hates Rinaldo s actions even more than Aymon does and declares her son arrogant. She
openly stands against a union between Bradamant and Ruggiero and tries to use her power to get what
she wants, a marriage between Bradamant and Leo. She assumes that Bradamant s ambitions match
her own and encourages her child to choose death over a penniless knight (44.38). If Bradamant acts
otherwise and follows Rinaldo s plan, Beatrice [will] never more own her for a daughter (44.38).
Beatrice s reasoning is based solely on greed; she wants Bradamant to submit to her own desires and
ideas and focuses on gaining wealth when choosing Bradamant s husband.

It is one of the dialects of the Sioux language, the others being Dakota and Nakota (Powers, 2009). Although the Lakota initially defeated the Army, they were later defeated in 1877 forcing them to sign a treaty that ceded Black Hills to the US. Since then, they ve confined to Western South reservations of Dakota (Irvine Gal, 2008). Their language was put on paper in 1840 by missionaries, and it has since then evolved. The Language originating from the creation of the tribe is now almost forgotten. The reason as to why the language is dying is because the Lakota speaker is averaged to be 65 and they are dying without replacing new generations (Powers, 2009). Surveys show that transmission of the language to children stopped in the mid 1950s. Also, there are only 2,000 people who are first language Lakota speakers. Prevention For Disease Control And Prevention According to the forecasted statistics of Center for Disease Control and Prevention (2014), the public health research will most likely provide a better diagnostic resolution to the health concern of FXS in 2020 (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2014). The agency based its claim from the steady decline of families reporting that they are having a hard time dealing with FXS. Per CDC (2014), this only means that the public is becoming more aware of this condition. Their participation contributes to the advancement of knowledge content on this abnormality (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2014). CDC scientists works hard in order to establish preventive services and interventions to further help out in treating this condition. • 4. Irac of Negligence Introduction: In Rebecca Zorba s Restaurant case, the main issue is whether negligence exists of the defendant? There are three prerequisites must be present before the tort of negligence can arise: a duty of care must be owed by one person to another; there must be a breach of that duty of care; and damage must have been suffered as a result of the breach of duty. (FoBL, 2005, p70) In addition, another element must be satisfied to prove negligence is the causation. This essay will analysis Rebecca v. Zorba s with these four issues. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... IRAC Process No. 4 Is there any defenses can be rise? There are two defences to an action in negligence: contributory negligence and voluntary assumption of risk. (FoBL, 2005, p83) This case only involves contributory negligence. According to section 26 of the Wrongs Act 1958 (Vic.), the result of a successful plea of contributory negligence will be an apportionment of damages. So, if a defendant is a negligent without any contributory negligence by the plaintiff, the plaintiff will receive 100 per cent of the damage, but if the plaintiff is held to be contributory negligent to the extent of 40 per cent, then the plaintiff will only receive 60 per cent of the damage. (FoBL, 2005, p84) For instance, the case of Liftronic Pty Ltd v. Unver[10], the defendant (Liftronic Pty Ltd) was found liable in negligence but Unver s damages were reduced by 60 per cent due to his contributory negligence. In this case, Rebecca had seen the waiter wiping the floor, and assumed that all of the moisture had been cleared away. Then she did not ask the waiter about the damp floor, continue to dance vigorously. Therefore, the defendant could apportion part of damages by contributory negligence. Conclusion: To sum up, based on the law of negligence, the issues and precedents, Rebecca could win this case by legal process. Because the defendant Zorba s Restaurant owns a duty of care to Rebecca, the restaurant has breached that duty of care; ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. How Did The French Revolution Influence Art The French Revolution and the Art it Influenced Liberty, equality, fraternity, or death; the last, much the easiest to bestow, O Guillotine! wrote the famous author Charles Dickens, in his classic book, The Tale of Two Cities. The French Revolution (1789 1796) was a fight for liberty and equality, which ultimately led to the execution of Queen Marie Antoinette and King Louis XVI, by way of guillotine. And, eventually Napoleon Bonaparte became the ruler of France. This was a transforming time in not just France s history, but European history and World history. The people of France were fed up with the monarchy and the burden of high taxes, as the monarch rulers squandered money away while the people faced famine and poverty. The Revolution was so powerful that artists not only painted about it, but they became revolutionaries themselves, like Jacques Louis David, who is famous for his works, Oath of the Horratii, and Napoleon Crossing the Alps. In 1830, the second French Revolution broke out and this was known as the Three Glorious Days , in which the people of France protested Charles X after he imposed ordinances that prevented freedom of the press and increased the power of his monarchy ( French Revolution , n.d.). The famous allegorical painting by Eugene Delacroix, Liberty Leading the People, is a historical depiction of the second French Revolution and illustrates the connection between socioeconomic and political issues, and art. This paper will look at David s Napoleon Crossing the Alps, and Delacroix s Liberty Leading the People and analyze the impact of the French Revolution on art of those periods. Jacques Louis David (1748 1825) was one of the most famous Neoclassist painters, as well as a devout revolutionary in 19th century France. He painted works that some consider propaganda of the time, yet he did so in pure Neoclassical fashion (Pollitt, n.d.). Eventually, he became the personal painter for Napoleon Bonaparte, as he continued to support the revolution through art. In Napoleon Crossing the Alps, we see a diagonal, yet static composition. The diagonal that is created by the horse is reminiscent of Baroque figures, yet it lacks the movement that the Baroque style portrayed so well. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The environmental assessment panel concluded this knowledge gap was compounded by Nalcor s decision to exclude Lake Melville from the environmental assessment from detailed study. Nalcor based this decision on their prediction that there would be no measurable impacts downstream. (Make Muskrat Right, 2016). Lake Melville: Avativut, Kanuittailinnivut research program was initiated by the Nunatsiavut Government, the Labrador Inuit self government body to do more research on the downstream effects. An independent team of scientific experts from Canada and the USA carried out research to fully understand the effects of how Muskrat Falls would impact Lake Melville s eco system and the communities that depend on it for a living and also to anticipate the potentially constituting impacts of changing climate. Within the findings is evidence from Harvard University scientists of detrimental impacts on methyl mercury concentration in the Lake Melville ecosystem and increased Inuit exposure to methyl mercury from Muskrat Falls. These findings are substantially different than predictions presented in the Lower Churchill EA by Nalcor Energy. In light of this new scientific evidence, the Nunatsiavut Government has prepared, in this report, a new set of conclusions with respect to the downstream impacts of Muskrat Falls and stemming from this set of science based policy recommendations to protect Inuit health and well being. He had coined the word change to his first campaign, insuring Americans that if he were elected there would be change . Through two terms the Obama Administration has demonstrated the most controversial change of all, the passage of the Affordable Care Act, a health reform law enacted in March of 2010. With many flaws evident in the roll out of the Affordable Care Act, we can now question should the President and Congress repeal it and start over from scratch, as many GOP members and critics have suggested; or should all parties attempt to fix the evident flaws through bi partisan negotiation and action Many Americans are uncertain about what exactly the Affordable Care Act is. The Affordable Care Act is the nation s latest health care reform law. It was enacted in March of 2010. It is composed of two pieces of legislation. The first piece of legislation is the Patient Protection and Affordable Care act; also referred to as PPACA. The second is the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act or HCERA. Hair growth and thickness is determined by some specific cells below the surface of the outermost layer of skin, called hair follicle. Hair follicle regulates hair growth, colour, density as well as thickness. So if you say that some products may grow your hair thicker by boosting your hair follicles that makes sense. Either way, he still was very impactful on our world and continues to influence our world today. Nick Bettis states, That future generations turned him into legend... That is the real significance of King Arthur. We invented him because we have an inherent need for what he represents. He symbolizes our ideals, which makes the most authentic part of us invested in his legacy. King Arthur invented the idea of chivalry. King Arthur believed it was his duty to face off with his son. Arthur states, No, tide me death, tide me life. Now I see him yonder alone, he shall never escape mine hands. For at a better avail shall I never have him. Arthur was determined to fight Sir Mordred despite the fact that Mordred was his son. Arthur did the right and just thing when he fought his son. According to the website Beale (2015) it states, If farmers can be helped to obtain simple technologies, income can rise, and they can accumulate bank balances and collateral (p. 1). As shown, you don t need all the high expensive technology to make a profit, all you need is something simple in technology to change your yield productivity for the better. For many years farmers have dealt with problems during plantations season whether it be droughts, insects, or other issues, but what if technology could help you with that? GM traits, such as insect and herbicide tolerance, help to increase yields by protecting the yield that would otherwise be lost due to insects or weeds (Do GM crops increase Yield?, 2012, p.1). Thanks to recent help by technology, farmers have been able to reduce this problem by using genetically modifying crops, allowing them to increase their yields dramatically for the better. If it wasn t for all these extraordinary technological help that there is today in the world of farming, it wouldn t be as easy or efficient for farmers, thus not allowing farming to be where it is today. • 14. Weather And Weather In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein Mary Shelley s Frankenstein was published in 1818, and is now famous as one of the pioneering science fiction novels. Mary Shelley herself is sometimes even referred to as the mother of science fiction. While her work has been scrutinized numerous times by feminists and moral critics, in recent times ecologists have also been examining her novel. Ecocriticism, while still a relatively new field of criticism, is highly interested in how weather and natural events effected both the writing and plot of the novel. Ecocriticism of Mary Shelley s Frankenstein focuses on the weather in the novel itself, the eruption of the Tambora Volcano in 1815, and the monster as symbolism for weather in the early 1800s. Weather plays an important role in the overall tone and mood of Mary Shelley s Frankenstein. It helps to set the tone for the horror and tradgedy of the story. In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, the weather plays a significant part all through out the novel, but particularly during the scenes taking place on Walton s ship and the scenes where Victor interacts with his creation. The letters Walton writes to his sister give the reader lots of details that paint a picture of what the weather was like during the time. Walton explains that he is looking for the north pole, a land very different from where he comes. He describes it as a land of near eternal summer. In contrast to this, both the area Walton hails from and the physical location of his ship are in much colder climate. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. Assyrian Empire Essay For a few centuries after the death of Shamshi Adad I, Assyrian cities were subjugated by a succession of outsiders: Babylonians under Hammurabi, Hittites and Mitanni Hurrians. From 1791 to 1360 A.D. control over Assyria passed back and forth, although Assyria itself remained more or less stable. After a power struggle between the Hittites and Mitanni, the Hittites successfully broke the power of the Mitanni in the region. Assyria then began to take control over territories that had belonged to Mitanni. The Hittites battled with the Assyrians, but the Assyrian king Ashur Uballit stamped out any remaining Mitanni or Hittite control over northern Mesopotamia. The Middle Empire King Ashur Uballit, who ruled from c. 1353 to 1318 B.C., succeeded in gathering all former Mitanni regions under his control. He also battled the Hurrians, Hittites and the Kassite king of Babylon. Ashur Uballit married his daughter to the Babylonian king, angering the Babylonian people. They promptly slew the king and replaced him with a pretender to the throne. King Ashur Uballit then invaded Babylon, killed the pretender and placed another Kassite royal on the throne. In Don Sabo s article Pigskin, Patriarchy, and Pain , he shines the light on intermale aggression by sharing his experience as a young football player and the detrimental risk upon ones body in the football culture. • 21. Prince Caspian By Cs Lewis Analysis In C.S Lewis s book Prince Caspian, he uses this idea of re enchantment. Throughout the book, he talks about the past. How things used to be in the times of old, and how they are different now. Re enchantment is the idea of going back to the old way of thinking. People now of days have a sort of disconnect with the world around them. They are less enchanted or less aware or connected with things in nature (Taylor). Lewis talks about this in his novel. He brings up several occasions where characters are thinking about, going back to, or being taught about the past. Lewis also brings up both sides of the argument. Bacchus brings with him a large entourage and parting. A symbol of the joy in re enchantment. One of the girls that Lewis rights about, Susan, notices this and says, I wouldn t have felt safe with Bacchus and all his wild girls if we d met them without Aslan (339). Aslan is a symbol of Jesus in all of Lewis s stories. In The Lion the Witch, and the Wardrobe, Aslan is sacrificed on a stone table, as Jesus is sacrificed on the cross for our sins; Now I will kill you instead of him as our pact was and so the Deep Magic will be appeased (181). Lewis wants people to grow their relationship with nature but he does not want them to lose their relationship with God. He does not want them to replace their love for God with their new love for nature. What he actually wants re enchantment to do is to bring people closer to God. Bacchus, for example, is good to be around and enjoy a party. But if Aslan was not there it would be not safe. God is the reason that nature exists in the first place. My aim is to demonstrate a clear outline of respect touching upon subjects such as, human rights, and values. Respect can be as straightforward as manors such as please and thank you , although many may not always display this. Respect is dignity for every individual, mutual acknowledgment from one individual to another portraying thoughtfulness and equality. (Nhina le, 2016). Respect has changed outstandingly over the years which effects the way we live today. Morally It is of significance to include others without preconceptions or exceptions no matter of differences such as ethnicity or beliefs. (Joyce Catlett and Robert w firestone 2009) respect and human rights interlink, as in 1998 the humans right act came into power which is built up of 30 articles e.g. right to life which states that nobody including the government can try to end your life (ref article) these rights are about respect and belong to everyone. VALUEs Values are personal attributes of importance which we are passionate about, gained through life and experiences. Values certainly influence the opinions we have and the choices we make, as these are personal thoughts and felling of what we care about. (Hayden, 2006) Values affect the way we choose to live our life furthermore the way we act towards others and their life.(REF) As we develop as individuals many factors such as age, wisdom and life experiences are likely to have an impacted value s now held in comparison to ones held in younger life, as growth, knowledge and life experience act towards shaping us as individuals and the way we may view things. Values are not factual nevertheless there are no right or wrong values as these are personal to each and every individual. (x2ref) changes were made, which has a huge influence throughout the world. • 33. Christian University Tuition Texas Christian University is a private institution located in one of the nation s largest metroplexes. Like many other privately funded universities, it has succumbed to one of the most concerning issues for millennials and their parents today: increasing tuition annually leading to the overall problem of student debt sweeping the country. Since 2010, tuition has increased by $12,580 for TCU students, creating an increasingly large burden for students who value a small knit community at a university where professors know your name and you have a personal identity and not just an ID number. It s important for Chancellor Boschini and the TCU Office of Finance and Administration to hear the worries of students and their parents, and to consider ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tuition rose by 4.8 percent, increasing it from $40,680 to $42,580 per year without room and board (Watson). This tuition increase may seem like a small amount in the grand scheme of things; however, for many students that is monstrous jump in price. For many students, that rise in tuition may be the deciding factor between returning to TCU or transferring to a university with a smaller impact on their wallets. While the tuition increase is a turnoff for current students at TCU, it has not proven to affect retention rate, which is 91 percent. (TCU Financial Aid). Although TCU has a good retention rate, it is coming from a specific group of people, with 77 percent of our student body being white and from the upper middle class who are able to afford the tuition of a private university. This has a negative effect on the diversity at TCU, culturally and racially, which could be considered a turnoff to some potential students. We also have a large amount of students choosing to transfer in as juniors to and pay for two years instead of four. What TCU should be most worried about is the effect a varying tuition may have on a prospective student, rather than the current students. Chancellor Boschini and the people working at the Financial Aid office have the power to fix the issue regarding tuition and to make TCU students and their families happier with their choice. If they listen and start the ball rolling, then other departments, such a Fraternity Life or Student Government can reevaluate the financial burden they put on students as ... • 34. A Memorable Moment In My Life I remember this tragedy like it was this morning. My aunt was out of town, so I was staying with my first cousin Andrew. I woke up fairly early for a weekend and had a cup of the best dark roast from Starbucks in my pink and white polka dot coffee cup, along with 2 tablespoons of rich french vanilla creamer. With my coffee, I went to go sit outside to listen to the bird s chirp, get a bit of fresh air and clear my head for the long day ahead of me. In my cousin s backyard, they have a tall fogged glass patio set, sitting upon the rustic wood patio. Sitting in the backyard made me feel as though it was just me and nature herself, so put together, beautiful and calm. It was black Friday and my cousin and I were going to head to my house for our families traditional pierogi making after breakfast. My mother As well as other family members were already waiting there for our arrival. We got into the car and rolled down the windows and started to play our favorite music. Once we got into the car we were sitting there for a moment just on our phones and having a casual conversation. My cousin had mentioned his friend getting into a car accident the month before, and we were positive that we were going to be okay because he was a safe driver, and wanted to get both of us there safely. Andrew soon started to drive on the way to my house, and the gas light turned on. My cousin pulled to the nearest gas station. As we pulled in I got chills all the way from the bottom of my feet ... • 35. Elizabeth And Fredrick Use Of Ethos Pathos Logos Various way Elizabeth and Fredrick use pathos. Discuss In Aristotle s book of collected lectures titled Rhetoric , Aristotle declares that there are three different ways to persuade a reader. The first way is to appeal to an audience by logical facts or logos. The second way is to appeal to a reader by using mortality or ethos into the writing. Lastly, Aristotle claims that you need emotion or ethos to persuade an audience. In Elizabeth I s Speech to the troops at Tillbury and Frederick Douglass the Church and Prejudice: Both apply pathos in their speeches in order to gather their supporters behind them. • 36. Struggles of the Dalit Movement in Anand Patwardhan’s... On the morning of 11th July, 1997, at Ramabai Colony in Mumbai, garland of slippers is seen on the statue of Dr. Ambedkar. Soon upset Dalits gather to protest against the sacrilege. Within a few hours, a police van reaches the spot and starts to fire. They fire at people who weren t even protesting, killing ten people on the spot. Vilas Ghogre, a Dalit Marxist poet and singer, moved by the incident to such an extent that he committed suicide. Anand Patwardhan s documentary Jai Bhim Comrade is about Dalit movement and struggle for recognition of their identity and acceptance of their existence within socio politico economic milieu. The three hour long movie covers the time period of fourteen years, incorporating layered, personal narratives of Dalits, their aspirations and their desire to achieve what Ambedkar said in his one of the most radical texts The Annihilation of Caste , to dismantle the caste system. The film provides an insight into the cruelty and discrimination against Dalits, which has been naturalized and institutionalized within our so called progressive Hindu society. Patvardhan is trying to situate various personal narratives within the larger narrative of Dalit resistance and struggle. I personally found the movie extremely strong, which renders the audience literally speechless. It shakes one s entire belief system and forces one to interrogate various pockets of society which collectively form the society as it is. The movie turns the notion of ... • 37. A Doll s House Gender Essay Throughout much of English literature, gender and sex have been carefully analyzed. Often, a literary character can be identified as either male or female simply based on the character s behavior or on the way they are described by the author. Gender is not the biological traits that society uses to assign a person into either female or male; this is called sex. Gender is the repeated socialization over time that leads men and women to fall into a false sense that they are acting naturally, rather than following a socially constructed role. In A Doll House , Henrik Ibsen appoints specific stereotypical gender roles to each of his characters to show how gender has been constructed by social expectations. One of the most obvious issues that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Male roles in A Doll House are presented through two characters: Torvald Helmer and Nils Krogstad. In the first place, Torvald Helmer is a mirror image of the stereotypical male gender. To him, social expectations surrounding his gender must be met. He holds on to the belief that a man s role in marriage is to protect and guide his wife. Also, Torvald believes that all husbands have a right to their wives bodies. He asks Aren t I your husband ? (Isben 832) after Nora resists having sex with him. This demonstrates how male figures of the 19th century thought they had all the power, especially when behind closed doors. As Parker (2003) describes, in common Victorian society, the husband did not view their wives as equals but rather an amusement or possession . Torvald enjoys the idea that Nora needs instruction and is quite eager to show her how to dance the tarantella. Torvald is very overbearing and treats his wife Nora like a doll. The Helmer household acts as an enclosure to shelter the entire family from the cruelties of the outside world. Another stereotypical trait of Torvald Helmer s is that he has a steady job and is very conscious of his appearance in the community. He has the desire to stay in good rankings thus fires Krogstad from the bank as to not make [himself] ridiculous in front of the whole office ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. Oppositional Defiant Disorder And Mental Health Services Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) is one of the most common clinical disorders in children and adolescents (Nock, Kazdin, Hirpi Kessler, 2007). Greene et al. (2002) defines ODD as a recurrent pattern of developmentally inappropriate levels of negativistic, defiant, disobedient, and hostile behavior toward authority figures . ODD primarily consists of stubborn (e.g., tantrums) and aggressive behaviors that the child attempts to rationalize based on the circumstances rather than view as consequential and problematic (Kazdin, 2010). Therefore, ODD can have serious implications for the child s functioning at home, in school, and in the community, so parents of children with ODD are more likely to utilize child mental health services (Kazdin, 2010). The history, symptoms, diagnosis, prevalence, age of onset, duration, risk factors, comorbidity, and treatments of ODD will be discussed, as well as the rationale behind the revisions from the fourth (DSM IV) to fifth editions (DSM 5) of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. The ODD diagnosis was introduced by the Group for the Advancement of Psychiatry in 1966 and appeared for the first time as a distinct child/adolescent onset disorder in the third edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM III) in 1980 (Nock et al., 2007). In the 35 years since its induction however, not much more has been learned about the disorder because the majority of studies combine both ODD and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. High School Near Future Research High School is a completely different compared to middle school. For the first time ever, your going to have to think about your future and what will be the best thing for you in the long run. Some of you already have an idea of what you see yourself doing in the future, but the rest of you may not have a clue what you want to be. When I was in your position, I was repeatedly asked What do you want to be in the future. I always responded back that I was not sure yet. However, I was trying to completely avoid that topic as I didn t want to worry about any of that stuff. To this day I m not 100% sure what I want to be as I believe that all the puzzles will join together in the near future. To be successful in high school, you do not have to have everything planned out, but you should have at least a small idea of what you are going to do. This will be completely up to you as you have to chose what you like the most or in other words what makes you happy. If you want to join a club or a specific class, go ahead if it truly makes you happy, but with that being said, do not join anything in which you are forced to as it has to come naturally to you. • 41. Essay on Ambiguity in Reason in Orlando Furioso Ambiguity in Reason in Orlando Furioso Ariosto addresses an underlying battle between reason and lust in Orlando Furioso, similar to the clash between duty and desires in Vergil s Aeneid, yet opposite in interpretation. Vergil presents the message that duty overpowers desires, while Ariosto shows the opposite effect when he equates reason, rules, and authority with duty, and love, passion, and lust with desire. The mettlesome charger represents Lust that will not stop fighting to obtain its goals and cannot be gently coerced from its direction. Reason rarely overcomes Lust after it is set into action; once it is tasted it cannot be forgotten. Bradamant is torn between lust and reason when she must choose between her desires ... Aymon ignores Rinaldo s pleas and [means] to dispose of his daughter as he [pleases] (44.75). Clearly, Aymon sees Bradamant as a piece of property. He wants to gain money and a good name to honor his family through Bradamant s marriage. He does not care whether or not love kindles between his daughter and the man she will spend her life with; he only seeks control over his daughter and the situation. Even though Rinaldo is acting against his father, therefore defying his duties and authority, his innocent intentions justify his action while Aymon s actions display his self centered motives. Beatrice hates Rinaldo s actions even more than Aymon does and declares her son arrogant. She openly stands against a union between Bradamant and Ruggiero and tries to use her power to get what she wants, a marriage between Bradamant and Leo. She assumes that Bradamant s ambitions match her own and encourages her child to choose death over a penniless knight (44.38). If Bradamant acts otherwise and follows Rinaldo s plan, Beatrice [will] never more own her for a daughter (44.38). Beatrice s reasoning is based solely on greed; she wants Bradamant to submit to her own desires and ideas and focuses on gaining wealth when choosing Bradamant s husband. ...
