Unequal Pay Among Women
In the status quo, it is estimated that eighteen million women are left to live in poverty. (NWLC,
2014). This leads to women struggling to make ends meet. It s important to raise awareness for those
whose voices have been silenced due to their lower status in society as they cannot be heard on their
own. Many people tend to believe that both genders are equally exposed at the risk of poverty.
However, it is statistically proven that women have higher poverty rates due to unequal pay rates, low
paying occupations, a rise in divorce rates, and a growing number of single mothers from unplanned
pregnancies. Worldwide, women are likely to have unjust pay rates which is a significant reason for
poverty among women. According to the Institute for Women s Policy Research, women receive 80
cents for every dollar a man receives. (IWPR, 2015). Not only does the difference in pay rates result in
women receiving lower salaries than men, but it results in women having to rationalize the low
amount of money that they do receive. It is difficult to live in a world where resources are costly with
a low salary. According to the United Nations Statistics Division, ...consistent with other studies, men
s average salary was higher than women s average salary. (Barry A. Gerhart, 2015). This informs us of
one of the reasons as to why women have a higher poverty rate. The unequal pay has been a strong
issue debated in current society by many people. However, there has yet to be a solution to a

Rhetorical Address
Logos, pathos, and ethos have been existing to empower and strengthen our writing. In this rhetorical
analysis essay, logos, pathos, and ethos that are used in the Annual Address will be clearly identified
and evaluated. The Annual Address written by Joseph Jackson discusses the issues of discrimination
and racism. It was written and delivered at the 84th Annual Session of the National Baptist Movement.
Unlike many others back in history, Jackson believes that actions should be taken place before any
demanded result. Jackson appeals to his fellow race to take action and adds credibility to his claims by
using historical examples from the past. Also, Jackson makes personal connections with his targeted
audience, black people, which builds trust between the speaker and the reader. We will be examining
the context of the this speech and Jackson s perspective and claims.
The Annual Address starts off discussing the foundation of this nation. Into a few paragraphs, he
addresses the civil rights struggle and the reason behind it. About half of his speech address some
advice and suggestions for the future of the black people. Joseph Jackson writes the Annual Address,
telling the black people to put an action in their beliefs and for justice, in a way contradicting King s
perspective on peaceful protests. In page two, Jackson states, What is this struggle for civil rights? I
answer, it is an effort of American citizens to get full equality of opportunity. It is the resolution and
the determination that there shall be in these United States one class of citizens and that is first class
citizens. This is a struggle to adopt in practice as well as theory the concept of man on which the
Declaration of Independence is based, and to fully implement the Federal Constitution, one of the
greatest documents for human freedom since the writing of the Magna Carta. The civil rights struggle
is a struggle for full freedom, justice, and equality before the law. It is a struggle to bring from paper
the lofty ideals of America, and to apply them in practice to the lives and actions of all Americans. In
reality it is America s struggle to be herself, to fulfill the highest promises of her being, and to build a
social order after

Research Paper On Isma Ilism
Isma ilism in Najran
As statistics show, there are more than 1.8 billion Muslim around the world, which equals almost a
quarter of the world s population. There are many denominations of Islam, but the big ones are Sunni,
Shia, and Sufism. After Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) died, Muslims started separating based on who
was supposed to be the next Caliph of Muslims; Sunni believe that Abu Bakr Mohammed s father in
law was the first Caliph of Islam; whereas, Shias and Sufis believe that Ali Bin Abi Talib was
supposed to be the first. Ismai lism, to which I belong, is the second biggest branch of Shia after the
Imami or Jaafari group. The majority of Isma ilists live in Najran, located in the south region of Saudi
Arabia, near the Saudi Yemeni borders. There are many things that distinguish Islma ilists from other
branches of Shia such as: the Imams, religious rituals and the dates of religious holidays. ... Show

Essay on Baddeley and Hitchā€™s Working Memory Model
This essay addresses the working memory model which was proposed by Baddeley and Hitch (1974 in
Smith Kosslyn, 2007) as a response to Atkinson and Shiffrins (1968 in Smith, 2007) multi store
model. According to Baddely and Hitch the multi store model failed to explain most of the
complexities of the human memory and viewed it as being too simplistic. They argued that the short
term memory store must have more components rather it being a single inflexible store as suggested
previously by Atkinson and Shiffrin (1968). The working memory model is therefore an enhancement
of the multi store model. According to Baddeley and Hitch working memory is a limited capacity
system that stores and processes information.

This is interpreted as because the capacity of the phonological loop is limited in time (in Smith, 2007).
Further evidence for the existence of the phonological loop comes from Conrads and Hulls (1975 in
Passer, 2009) experiment in which they examined the effect of phonological similarity. They found
that serial recall in a list of similar sounding words tended to yield poorer results with participants
finding it difficult to remember compared to words that sounded different. It has also been found that
recall in semantically similar words tended to have little or no effect, supporting the idea that verbal
information is transferred in a phonological manner in working memory. In addition, Vallar and
Papagno (1995 in Smith, 2007) found that the phonological store in brain damaged patients were
dysfunctional.
Moreover, Hardyk and Petrinovich (1970 in Parkin, 1993) found the articulatory loop to be crucial
when being presented with complex information. In their study they measured participants throat
muscle and forearm muscle activity although some may argue that this was not a good technique to
carry out. Their findings led to them conclude that when participants were presented with complex
material their articulatory loop would come in to function (in Parkin, 1993).
In addition, memory span tasks support the existence of the articulatory loop showing that task ability
heavily depends on a

Chrysalids Rebellion Quotes
Chrysalids essay Kaden I think the author added rebellion of culture as a theme because we re so used
to following our ways and not rebelling against culture and it mixes us up from what we re used too
and intrigues us. I think the author hints that rebelling is acceptable in the novel so that we think about
it and decide if it actually is. In the chrysalids rebellion happens because if a person is being harmed
or discriminated in an unfair manner they are allowed to rebel. He thinks rebellion is ok because
maybe a deviation could be helpful, for example David and his friends could talk without speaking.
Also, I think the author argues it is ok to rebel to protect someone else from harm. Many people in the
chrysalids rebel from their culture and society, these are just some examples of why the author lets
rebellion happen. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Ejercito Zapatista De Liberacion Nacional
The Ejercito Zapatista de LiberaciĆ³n Nacional (EZLN) is a current revolutionary group that resides in
Chiapas, Mexico. Chiapas is state with a large majority of the population that has indigenous blood.
With that being said they are very connected to their indigenous roots compared to other countries.
With the start of the Mexican Revolution there were many people living in poverty and without land.
Large amounts of wealthy Mexicans were owners of the grand majority of the land. A main problem
that many believed that was resolved with the end of the Mexican War was the redistribution. Sadly,
this phase of the war never reached Chiapas. For decades they were living in poverty and working for
others. Consequently, many indigenous people ultimately revolted with the North American Free
Trade Agreement (NAFTA), because it made the peasants lose more money than they originally had.
With the Ejercito Zapatista de LiberaciĆ³n Nacional (EZLN) it demonstrated that the indigenous people
were proud of their roots and that they would do anything to keep their dignity even if they were still
peasants.
MEXICAN REVOLUTION The start of the Mexican Revolution came about with the dictatorship of
Porfiro Diaz. Porfiro Diaz was the president who came after Benito Juarez, the first indigenous
president of Mexico. At Diaz was liked by many of the elite in Mexico due to the fact that they were
able to gain wealth. One often forgets about the other side when wealth is being gained on one

Positive And Negative Effects Of Mosquito
According to the U.S. Center for Disease Control, every year more than 1.5 million people around the
globe lose their lives due to mosquito borne diseases (2012). A mosquito is an insect which lives
around the world especially in tropical and subtropical countries. The mosquito has both positive and
negative effects. As part of positive effects, larvae of mosquitoes are food for fish and dragonflies, and
when mosquitoes consume nectar, they help the flowers to pollinate. On the other hand, mosquitoes
make people annoyed and cause many diseases. World Health Organization (2016) explains that the
mosquito is the greatest menace which causes many diseases and they are responsible for more than
million deaths and cases every year. There are many diseases that caused by mosquitoes, but the
diseases are commonly found and get people s attention because they have many negative effects on
people such as malaria, dengue fever, and zika virus disease. A disease that kills a child patient every

Benefits and Shortcomings of Folksonomies
Social tagging, which originally emerged as means for users to describe, organize and share content,
forming groups known as folksonomies, has challenged the traditional idea of organizing knowledge
within information systems, raising questions whether tags and folksonomies might improve
information retrieval, thus bridging the gap between lay persons and builders (Smith 136 139; Lee and
Schiyer 1747 1748; Rolla 174 175; 182 183). In fact, folksonomies have been proposed an alternative
way to organize and find information, such as Park, who applying the information foraging theory,
proposed that since users naturally collect and evaluate results, folksonomies can help facilitate the
discovery of information through tag browsing, allowing users to find related tags classified by
others(Smith 137; Park 515 518; 521 522). Yet, despite the uniqueness of this model, there could be
shortcomings, because while tags serving as categories for browsing might be a good idea for smaller
folksonomies, it would be difficult for a user to find all relevant items (recall) within a large
folksonomy of thousands items, especially if the tags are broad, not connected by multiple terms, and
the user is looking for specific information (Unit 1). Instead, tags would be more effective as indexing
terms, something that has been explored for viability against library systems, such as in OPACS.
Studies comparing tagging against indexing with OPACS have shown that OPACS run contrast to the

The And The Doctrine Of Salvation
Soteriology or the Doctrine of Salvation is perhaps the grandest and greatest them in Scripture. If we
look at our world it s easy to see man s condition in sin. Mankind is completely helpless when the
message of salvation is ignored. Our world remains shattered and town by the condition of sin, but
God s gracious rescue plan through salvation and Jesus Christ will redeem us all and provide a
solution to man s problems. () This union with Christ is called the magical exchange in which Christ
assumes our debts and we inherit his wealth so that nothing (Horton pg.271) will be able to separate us
from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Ro 8:39) (Horton pg. 323 324) Let s visit the different
layers of salvation.
In our textbook, Horton starts with the blessing of Justification. God justifies the wicked. Justification
is a legal act, wherein God deems the sinner righteous on the basis of Christ s righteousness. Horton
tells us on pg. 280, God justifies the wicked not those who have done their best yet have fallen short,
those who might at least be judged acceptable because of the sincerity, but those who, at the very
moment of being pronounced righteous, are in themselves unrighteous. This means full repentance,
which is defined as such, as a change of mind, or a conversion from sin to God. And the
relinquishment of any practice from the conviction that has offended God. When we accept salvation
we are also testifying to God that we are a changed person from

Analysis Of The Book The Great Gatsby By F. Scott...
Part two begins slowly and adds more confusion. The story is overly convoluted with new characters
and new events. Instead of Chris working on figuring out who s after him and finding the chip, the
story changes directions and it turns into stopping a major explosion and about a new world order.
Also, James dominates part two, not Chris. In fact, characters well established in part one, are not
active in part two, such as Kurt Slowensky.
Part two spends too much time on the hypnosis scene, the political unrest, Big Mike (Mike Berg),
dreams about James and Chris, and flashbacks about James time in Somalia, and other series of
events.
The concern is that the first parts of the story (part 1) setup a strong expectation that this story would
be about retrieving information from James memory regarding the location of the chip.
However, part two feels like an entirely different script. Thus, it would benefit the script to focus on
the main storyline set up in the first script.
However, part 2 offers more action, which is absent in part one. Both part 1 and part 2 need to be
combined, but it needs to focus on ONE main goal. Too many flashbacks confuse the audience. The
only flashbacks should be relevant to Chris finding the chip or putting pieces together about who
might be after him. Granted, he may stumble upon a bigger conspiracy, but it has to be fluidly
connected to part one.
The timeline in part two remains unclear. Also, at times, it s unclear if James is truly

Sears Kmart Merger Essay
Due to slow sales and less traffic at both Sears and Kmart, the two have decided to merge creating one
entity named Sears Holdings. Kmart has agreed to buy Sears for $11 Billion. This puts Sears Holdings
at the third largest retailer behind Wal Mart and Home Depot. Although Wal Mart is a direct
competitor with Kmart, Sears Holdings goal is not to compete with Wal Mart directly, but find areas
that have been overlooked by other retailers, and take advantage of the expanded line of products the
new company has to offer. Sears has had higher sales than Kmart, so hundreds of Kmart s will be
transformed into Sears stores. As of now, most of Sears 870 stores are only found in malls. The new
strategy would be to open Sears stores in current ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Changing some Kmart stores to Sears stores and bringing home appliances to Kmart, would offer
customers shopping for those products with more locations to choose from. As a customer, this merger
brings a wider array of products to more locations, making it easier to get everything you might need
in one place. The merger of these two corporations would create more jobs.
Sears is looking to create more of a presence outside of shopping malls, creating more Sears locations
in single store setups in a similar way to Kmart. Current CEO of Sears Alan J. Lacy, will become the
Vice Chairman of the new company. His strategy of opening more Sears stores outside of the usual
shopping mall would require many of the current Sears locations to be closed. In the long run jobs at
new Sears locations would have to be filled, but the creation of those new jobs would have to be
postponed until the new Sears stores are opened. In the meantime, the news of many Sears closings
would put many workers out of a job.
Currently Kmart has been constantly losing to competitors such as Wal Mart and Target. Target is seen
as a higher class store compared to the other two, and Wal Mart is seen as a good store with good
prices. Kmart has had trouble finding it s own identity. They try to market themselves as being a better
bargain than Wal Mart, but the store is viewed as being cheap from the customer s point of view.
Kmart tried to fix that, by bringing in the Martha Stewart line. They

Characters of Cold Mountain Essay
The film Cold Mountain, directed by Anthony Minghella, is set during the American Civil War and
tells the tales of two lovers, Inman and Ada. Inman is a strong, quiet and very moral country boy, very
different to the higher class Ada, who herself does not fit in with Inman s country lifestyle. Just as
Inman and Ada realise their love for each other Inman is forced to fight for the South in the war, and
Ada is left to look after herself. Inman then struggles to make his way back to his lover; and with no
means of contact Ada spends her time trying to keep up hope that Inman is still alive. Minghella uses
many techniques to create strong impressions of both Inman and Ada.

This can be seen in many other events in history such as during the holocaust in World War II. Oskar
Schindler saves almost a thousand Jews lives from near certain death by acting upon his morals which
tell him that the persecution that is occurring is not right. So through dialogue and camera shots
Minghella creates a strong impression of Inman, his resolution and his endurance.
Another character which Minghella creates a strong impression of is Ada. At the beginning of the film
Minghella presents Ada as a higher class southern belle and because of this we assume that she will be
frail, and not take well to hard times. Minghella uses costume to show that Ada is a lady. For example
Ada arrives into the small farming town of Cold Mountain wearing a very impractical but beautiful
white dress. However when the war starts and Ada is left on her own, she is able to change and
become a hard working southern girl, and she obtains a new found strength to her character that
neither she, nor the viewer, realised she had. She starts to dress in far more practical farm clothes
which are torn and dirty, and this change in costume reflects her change in character. She learns how
to run a farm, and for the first time in her life she does hard labour, which when we first meet Ada we
would not have predicted she could do. This change creates a strong impression of

Psychodynamic vs Behaviourist Theory
Psychology is not just philosophical speculation and reasoning over the years it has evolved and it is
now also recognised as a science, to understand what psychology is all about it is necessary to know it
s origins and the theorist who brought it out of obscurity, Sigmund Freud. He developed the
Psychodynamic or Psychoanalytical perspective to enable better understanding of human behaviour
these concepts will be discussed further later in this study. After Freud opened the gateway other
perspectives and approaches have been developed, now with five main areas of psychology Cognitive,
Behaviourist, Biopsychology and Humanist approaches. For a comparison with the Psychodynamic

Examples Of Creation Myths
What creation myth do you believe in? There are many different creation myths, each culture has their
own because they believe the world was created different. Even though cultures have different myths
some of them have something in common, which is a motif. The motifs that I think are the most
important are the following; Most myths start with chaos, Men are always created before women, and
Humans are made for organic material. Without these motifs the creation myths would be silly and
would not make sense.
Creation myths mostly start with Chaos:
In my opinion the most important motif of all, is how, mostly all creation myths start with chaos. Most

Men were always created first because they are stronger and can withstand more than women. When
the gods would make women they made them small and fragile, they were not meant to do hard labor.
Every culture used this motif so that means it must be important and a smart idea to use. The main
reason that women were made was to give the men company, be the men s mate, and take care of the
children. While the men were out all day working of finding food for the family, while his wife would
be inside watching the children and cleaning the house.
Humans were made out of organic materials:
Most men were made from organic materials because the gods wanted them to either be apart of them
or the earth. The cultures that used this motif were most likely people that loved the earth and
worshiped their god everyday. There are many cultures that use organic materials to make the humans
but some materials did not work like the gods were hoping for. For example in the Yoruba creation
myth the humans are made from clay, but while Obatala was making the people he was drunk and
made them all deformed and ugly. Obatala was a very nice god and did not kill them he just made
more people that were perfect. Another example is the Mayan creation myth, In the beginning of the

to say their names and praise them. Tepeu and Gucumatz decided to create man and they made

Essay on Three inherited Behaviors of E tailing Communication 470 Michael Zarvos September, 5,
2012 By: Aisha Syed E commerce or Electronic Commerce has become a part of our everyday lives.
The growth of World Wide Web is growing, more and more each day. Businesses practically live on

The reason being is that the customer has already established a bond of trust with a name from a
traditional shopping method. Beginning to search for tools to make a purchase, one will begin
searching for Craftsman, since it has been very well known and probably had prior history with the
product. The behavioral e tailing customer model can be broken down into three areas; the product,
the process, and the partnership. The intent or the attempt of electronic retailers is to mediate or be the
messenger conveying the message at every level to encourage and to assure the buyer s or the
customer decision that will gain trust and loyalty so that the customer will return to the business site,
which in turn will provide more revenue and profit. The first behavior that I will discuss in the
consumer model is the product or service search. This is initially influenced by independent or
uncontrollable variables (DMS Retailer, 2011). Some of the charateristics such as age, gender, culture,
and lifestyle. Some moderating variables are within the control of the vendor. Price, variety of
products, and services are the factors that how they can intervene and influence the initial search. The
communications medium that is being used by e tailer are pricing and advertisement by the Internet

Automotive Ethics Of The Automotive Industry Essay
Automotive ethics is a subject that is often over looked. Not many people look at what is ethical in the
automotive industry, most people are generally happy if they can get a good deal on a car. However,
automotive ethics has an affect on how automobiles are made, what rules the government puts on
them, and their danger on the environment. Before the engine was invented, life revolved around a
much more complicated system of transportation. Much advancement in technology has been made to
make the common lifestyle today much easier, For example, cellular telephones and onboard
navigation systems (gps) in automobiles. Cellular telephones and navigation systems (gps) have
become an everyday item, but nobody looks at the dangers that can have while operating a motor
vehicle. Before the invention of the modern day engine, lifestyles were completely different. Letters
were sent by horse in wagons, people traveled by horses and other such animals, often taking an entire
day to go twenty miles. The first fuel engine was not invented until 1923. It only took one year before
this engine was put into automobiles, making the lives of the public much easier. The invention of the
engine not only made it possible to travel by road, but also by water and air. Mail, letters and more
were no longer delivered by horses and families were able to travel from one place to another in less
than a day. However, the affects of the modern day engine can be seen all over the world. For

Impact Of The Huge Investment On The Economy Of Commerce...
As it was mentioned before, Carr has good points regarding the huge investment on IT in the
infrastructure of commerce period. However, he should realize the importance of this investment in
the second stage too. He wrote this article in 2003 and maybe he was not aware enough about what the
real value of IT is. Although there are many successful companies which invested a lot on their IT
systems, but he insisted to underestimate the value of these investments. The huge investments in the
IT systems of Amazon and others giant companies is the key for their successful. Without investing in
the IT systems in the commoditization stage (as he referred to it), these companies won t be able to
compete in this intense market. I believe that he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now, it is hard for any company to survive in the global market without advance IT systems. I think
we do not have a lot of opportunities in this world. If we have a chance, we have to exploit it right
away and do not wait for others to have it. He had a point when he said waiting will save some money,
but this money is considered as an investment and not loss. There are many reasons why these giant
companies are successful in their business.
Investing in new IT systems will
* Reduce costs
Giant companies such as Amazon uses its ITs systems as an effective way to reduce costs. The IT
enables Amazon to have a competitive advantage over other rivals and leave them behind. IT was not
only help Amazon to do what it did before, but it was also enable it to expand more in new directions.
* Create and build barriers to entry
Once a company has an advancement in their IT systems, it will be harder for others companies to
compete in the same business. These new rivals have to invest heavily to reach the same level of the
company that invest in its IT systems before them. Also, these rivals will try to copy the successful
company while the successful company works on something more advance.
These two factors are the most important factors that enabled these companies to be dominant in their
business.

Peer On Peer File Sharing
Peer to Peer File Sharing
Have you ever heard of peer to peer file sharing technology or P2P? What is P2P? According to J.A
Pouwelse. P. Garbacki and his article The Bittorrent P2P File Sharing System: Measurements and
Analysis , P2P is the transfer of a digital file from one peer to another. peer refers to computer clients.
This transfer can be as simple as the File Transfer Protocol(FTP), which transfer a file directly to a
visitor s personal computer through a server hosted website (Pouwelse, Garbacki, Epema, Sip, 2005).
File sharing create many ethical issues, but these ethical issues can be different if we are looking at it
morally, ethically or legally. Moral is an individual s belief about right or wrong. Not everyone will
have the same moral beliefs because they have different background or culture. For examples, we can
see many people streaming many document online and or sharing this document and these people do
not consider this issue a problem. If we look at it in an author stand point we might consider this issue
a problem since it influences our benefit. On the other hand, if we are looking at a user standpoint, we
do not think it is a problem because we are not paying for the information we are accessing. We can
conclude, that It depends on your cultural belief. Ethic is a belief that depends on the society. The
society or a group determines if a situation is good or bad. An individual cannot change the ethical
belief unless a group. This can be

The Machine Stops And Technology Today
Even though technology in The Machine Stops and technology today have many differences, many
characteristics are in common. The futuristic modern technology in The Machine Stops is very
dependable as well as modern day technology, except that in The Machine Stops everything is
machine generated. Most people today communicate on the cell phone or text messages. Frequently,
people may be contacted over video messages as well. In The Machine Stops the most common way
to communicate is by pictures or video messages with little face to face contact. Technology used in
both case scenarios is very reliant for humans. For example, humans rely on the internet to look up a
question if we don t know the answer. In The Machine Stops , they often did not have to ask questions
because the technology already did it for them. In relation to the story, they refer to when the machine
stops as a technological death , which we can relate to the same phrase in a way that if humans did not
have the access to technological works, most of our world would not be able to function. People
would struggle with communication with their families, difficulties to their jobs, and wouldn t be
aware of what was happening in the world.
The novel The Machine Stops is a dystopian future in which humans do not have the ability to live on
the earth s surface. The humans then, lived underground in a bee hive like machine only having access
to artificial air and eating techno food. The

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
In the neonatal intensive care unit, pain is something to be expected. The question is, when the
neonate is in pain will the nursing staff recognize it and how will they try to compensate for it? Infants
in their first few weeks of life can go through incredibly painful procedures at a time where any
amount of stress to the body can negatively impact their abilities to survive. In the past, pain has not
been held in high regards for neonates due to a lack of understanding in their
development.Fortunately, there are now laws in place by The Joint Commission on Accreditation of
Healthcare Organizations that state that there are standards for pain and stress management that each
hospital has to follow.Effective management of pain during procedures and after procedures are highly
important to improve acute and long term outcomes while focusing on minimizing the neonate s
behavioral and physiological stress.
There are many ways to manage pain in today s society. Some prefer non analgesic treatment, and
others rather manage their pain by taking analgesics as soon as they re aware of the severity of their
pain. On the specific topic of neonates, it is often said that their pain is overlooked. Because it is so
difficult to suspect whether or not the infant is in pain due to their developmental age group, nurses
are reluctant to take pharmacological measures without proof. There are a considerable amount of pain
scales accessible for neonates and neonatal nurses.

My Teaching Philosophy
Since the beginning of my academic career, teaching has always been an important part of my
academic duties.
The interaction that I have with students is not only enjoyable to me, but it also gives me an invaluable
perspective on the subjects I am teaching. Since I started my position at the Mathematical Institute at
the University of
Oxford, I have tutored in four classes across three semesters and supervised two projects, as detailed
in my CV.
I am also tutoring two new undergraduate classes in the first semester of 2017. I was also a teaching

I was particularly happy when a student would give a solution that is different from the one I had in
mind. In that instance, I would encourage the student to give further details and I would ask other
students if they had other methods. This ensured that the students were not only engaged but actively
contributing to the lecture. Even though student engagement is easier to accomplish in smaller
classrooms, it is even more important in larger classrooms where students voices drown in the hollow
of the lecture hall. Ensuring that at least a portion of the students is engaged will encourage certain
students to ask questions which are likely to be on the mind of other, more reserved, students.
In my opinion, learning in a class should simulate scientific research as much as possible. When a
researcher in mathematics studies a new subject, she starts with an observation, makes a conjecture,
verifies the conjecture with experiments and finally, formulates a generalisation with a proof. This
process enforces a context which the researcher keep referring to, namely the original example. The
result is a deeper understanding of the concepts and the ability to predict the future ones. As a teacher,
I try to simulate a faster version of this research process.
I try to start from simple examples that demonstrate some aspect of the topic. I then try to make the

Ivanka Trump Persuasive Speech
(Insert Creative Title ;) )
Many people may believe the First Daughter, Ivanka Trump, is just the rich daughter of the president.
However, she is much more than what society wants to think of her. Over the last 2 years, Ivanka
Trump has risen to become a strong advocate for Women s Rights and education. Ivanka Trump is the
most influential activist of female empowerment of the gender gap, proper education, and STEM
careers. What makes Ivanka Trump stand apart is her willingness to make ideas happen. Our society
needs more activists like her.
Today, women all over the world are separated by a gender gap that affects making the same wages as
men. According to a study done by the American Association of University Women, Women working
full time in the United States typically were paid just 80 percent of what men were paid, a gap of 20
percent (Miller, Kevin). Ivanka Trump has proven her strong support for shattering the pay gap. The
pay gap has been closing since 1970. It has been estimated to take another 170 years to close the gap
which is unacceptable (Shelbourne, Mallory) according to Ivanka Trump and World Bank President
Jim Yong Kim. Single women without children earn 94 cents for each dollar earned by a man, whereas
married mothers earned only 77 cents. Gender is no longer a factor in creating the greatest wage
discrepancy in this country. Motherhood is. We are working to change labor laws were put into place
when women were not a significant portion of the workforce. (Ivanka Trump) (Shelbourne, Mallory)
Ivanka Trump is a big influencer to powerful people in the world. She has spoken with world leaders
like Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, and Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel about the
gender pay gap. Talking to world leaders at a Women 20 Summit in Germany, Ivanka praised
Chancellor Merkel for passing a transparent paid leave legislation in Germany. She said, The United
States will look to Germany for legislation that will benefit families on paid leave. (Abramson, Alana)
Ivanka also talked about the uniqueness of women in the workplace. Proper legislation will help

William Butler Yeatsā€™ The Magi Essay
William Butler Yeats The Magi
Briefly stated, William Butler Yeats The Magi is a poem about people who, upon reaching old age, or
perhaps just older age, turn to God and the spiritual world for fulfillment and happiness. We are told in
the footnote to this poem that, after writing The Dolls, Yeats looked up into the blue sky and imagined
that he could see stiff figures in procession . Perhaps after imagining these figures, Yeats debated
within himself whom these pictures could represent. Yeats then went on to write The Magi, a poem
which is full of symbolism, a literary technique that he greatly valued.
In the first two lines of the poem, Yeats writes Now as at all times I can see in the mind s eye, / In their
stiff, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In line five, which is just bursting with symbolism, Yeats writes, And all their helms of silver hovering
side by side . This line further promotes the idea that these people have achieved great success, at least
great material success, in their lives. A helm can be defined as a tiller or wheel for controlling a ship s
rudder (Urdang, 261). Yeats is saying in this line that these people allowed silver, or money, to control
their lives completely the things they did, the places they went, the decisions they made, and so on.
The last three lines of the poem, And all their eyes still fixed, hoping to find once more, /Being by
Calvary s turbulence unsatisfied, / The uncontrollable mystery on the bestial floor, are the strongest.
Yeats is saying that, although they are unhappy with their lives, they have not given up hope. They
still feel that they can find perfect happiness. They realize that this happiness cannot be found in the
lives they are currently living. Yeats often used the image of the cross or of Christ s crucifixion to
symbolize things such as discord, incompleteness, opposition, mortality, temporality (Ellmann and O
Clair, 135). With this line, he is saying that these people have given up hope that they will ever be
happy in their hectic, strife filled, material worlds. They are now turning to God in order to find some
sense of peace and fulfillment in their lives. The

The empirical evidence, suggests that immigrants improve labor market efficiency by providing
additional and complementary labor force. Labor market impact of immigration depends on the size
and geographic location of the immigrant population and on the skills they bring to the labor market
and how these skills compare with those of natives (Borjas, 2006:4). Broadly speaking, immigration is
not detrimental to the host labor market or economy. Most of the research on the labor market impact
of immigration has been concerned with the impact of immigration on wages rather than labor force
participation or unemployment rates.
Borjas (2003) noted that the impact of wages fluctuates from study to study but clusters around zero
which is contradictory with theoretical prediction of a downward pressure. Whether the reasons are
methodological issues (misspecification, endogeneity, and heterogeneity), market forces in specific
cases (area vs. factor proportion approach4) or institutional factors has not been established.
A meta analysis of international research (Longhi et at, 2004) identifies common findings that are also
likely to apply to Argentina. With an overall mean of 0.119 standard deviations on wages, the authors
highlight that the downward effects is larger in more rigid labor markets, that studies that do not

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Plasticizers
2.1.FILLERS
Fillers enhance performance and/or reduce production costs. Stabilizing additives include fire
retardants to lower the flammability of the material. Many plastics contain fillers, relatively inert and
inexpensive materials that make the product unexpensive by weight.
Typically fillers are mineral in origin, e.g., chalk. Some fillers are more chemically active and are
called reinforcing agents. Other fillers include zinc oxide, wood flour, ivory dust, cellulose and starch.
Additives, fillers, and reinforcements are used to change and enhance the physical and mechanical

John Steinbeck Light And Darkness Essay
Light and darkness are two polar opposites. Light is like hope, and darkness is like sadness, or trouble.
John Steinbeck, the author of Of Mice and Men uses these elements in his book to portray the hope,
sadness and the immediate change between these two feelings, to advise the reader about the conflicts
that migrant workers experienced while working on the ranch. John Steinbeck uses the elements of
light, darkness, and the immediate change between the two to portray the hope, sadness, and the

ranch workers, especially George and Lennie. John Steinbeck uses the element of darkness to
foreshadow the troubling times that come and go for the ranch workers.
John Steinbeck uses the quick change of sunlight to darkness throughout the book, to portray the
sudden changes of happiness to sadness that the workers experience while on the ranch. One example
of this quick change is Both men glanced up, for the rectangle of sunshine in the doorway was cut off

The Invisible Man by H.G. Wells Essays
The Invisible Man by H. G. Wells gives an account of a man s descent into madness as the result of
his scientific feat, invisibility. Griffin, the invisible man, first appears as a mysterious stranger,
bandaged and seeking shelter and recluse but progressively transforms into a lawless individual with a
proposition to initiate a reign of terror. The change in Griffin s character occurs due to his invisibility
and the power it provides because there is no one, on this view, who is iron willed enough to maintain

The invisible man begins to feel limitless and superior to average man, he feels that an invisible man
is a man of power (Wells). Being invisible and the subsequent notion of invincibility causes the
invisible man to act as he pleases as his inhibitions disappear as the fear of being reprimanded is
removed. The absence of consequences strips away the good in Griffin s nature and fosters his
madness as he starts stealing from the markets and begins his spree of breaking into houses.
However, the invisibility that Griffin viewed as power ultimately is a poison as the invisible man must
sacrifice greatly for his for his power. The invisible man schemes grand dreams that can be realized
through his invisibility but discovers that no doubt invisibility made it possible to get them, but it
made it impossible to enjoy them when they are got (Wells 121). Because of his invisibility, the

customs like eating lunch at a restaurant. Griffin finds himself even unable to celebrate his discovery
with others with fear of that they might steal credit for his feat or that the exposure might cause a

The Olympic Hockey Game Between The Us And The Ussr
During the Cold war, tensions were high between the US and the USSR. The two countries always
wanted to show that they were the most dominant. One of the ways that the USSR showed dominance
was through the Olympics and ice hockey. The hockey game between the US and the USSR during the
1980 Winter Olympics was a turning point in the Cold War. The Union of Soviet Socialist Republic
(USSR) was said to be the best of all the teams in Olympic hockey. The 1980 Olympic hockey game
between the US and the USSR was a significant turning point in the Cold War and also reflected the

In the 1960s the United States suffered through the horrible tragedy of John F. Kennedy s

the United States can be conquered. In the 1970s, the United States had faced some serious economic

These rising prices created a problem for all the families in America. Later there was a conflict in

countries such as the Soviet Union and china armed North Vietnam (Pierce, 2005). Given that the US

Narrow Lace Essay
Want a softer, daintier look for your bedroom, but can t afford new drapes, bedspread and accessories?
Wish no more! Go get a couple yards of lace and you ll be well on your way to having a prettier
bedroom at a minimal cost. But, the overall look will seem as though you ve spent a fortune. There are
various types of lace which are suitable for giving your bedroom a softer look. Lace on a bolt, or by
the yard, is fine for covering large areas, like an entire wall or section of a wall. Wide lace, found on a

As part of the Atlanta Marietta Sandy Springs Metro area, it has access to the MARTA rail
transportation system, thus ensuring reliable transportation into Metro Atlanta. Its 9 public schools and
12 well kept parks are just a few of the family friendly amenities of this town. The city was only
incorporated into a city in mid 2005, after a long battle with the state to resist annexation with Atlanta
and a call for a referendum. Today the city has a mayor and six Council members. The town
experienced serious growth in the 1950s when a housing boom began. Many of the homes in newer
neighborhoods evidence that period with ranch style and modern traditional homes. This small city is
one of metro Atlanta s most affluent residential communities and in recent years has seen a trend in
high rise luxury condominium building. Medium income is among the highest in Georgia, with a
household making over $60,000 and a family income estimated at just above $80,000. With all this
affluence the area is flush with beautiful public buildings, and many national companies locally
headquartered here, which means more professional jobs are being created. This is an expensive place
to live with the median house value at $345,200 in the year 2000. The dominant employment arenas
for the population are in professional, scientific and technical industries.http://www.city

well to purchase an audio driving tour tape at the Heritage Sandy Springs Administrative Office
during regular business hours. It will provide an overview of the city s history and cultural identity.
This is a wonderful resource that also can be used to tour the area and get a feel for the neighborhoods
and see the civic buildings. There are 74 homes listed in the Atlanta Journal Constitution from

Transurethral Resection of the Prostate
Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) is the removal (resection) of part of the gland that
produces semen (prostate gland). This procedure is done to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
BPH is an abnormal, noncancerous (benign) increase in the number of cells that make up the prostate
tissue. BPH causes the prostate to get bigger. The englarged prostate can push against or block the
tube that drains urine from the bladder out of the body (urethra). This can cause bladder infections and
difficulty controlling and emptying the bladder. The goal of TURP is to remove enough prostate tissue
to allow for a normal flow of urine.
In a transurethral resection, a small telescope (resectoscope) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Abuse Of Power In Animal Farm By George Orwell
Orwell s Animal farm is an allegory for the Russian revolution specifically and for a variety of
themes, related to power, oppression and politics more generally. Analyse how the narrative of Animal
farm allegorically depicts George Orwell s views on at least three different themes. This essay will
unpack key themes power; violence and tyranny, a great power imbalance shown throughout the
novel, oppression; How Napoleon used manipulation to get the results he wanted, and politics;
Napoleons control over the intellectually inferior.
Throughout the novel Animal farm George Orwell perfectly displays during Napoleon s rein how
much control he has over the intellectually inferior, evidence of this happening is shown through the
rewriting of the commandments, Napoleon and his pigs are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Symbolic of this is the manipulation used by Squealer and his delivery of the threat of Jones return
Surely you do not want Jones to come back Squealer and Napoleon used this fear to manipulate the
animals to get what they wanted. All the animals agreed on the several commandments on the barn
wall when they were first written, through the slow changing of these Napoleon was able to exercise
his authority and make his bad behaviour acceptable. No animal shall drink alcohol in excess
Napoleon used this commandment change to his advantage and make his constant alcohol drinking
acceptable. Squealers speeches are consistently used as a manipulation tool, when Boxer died
Squealer made a stirring speech and promptly reminded all the animals of Boxers two favourite
maxims I will work harder and Comrade Napoleon is always right Squealer uses these statements as
motivation for the animals to want to work harder on the rebuilding of the windmill and other jobs
around the farm to honor their fallen friend unknown to them that they are cunningly being enslaved

The Signal Data Obtained Through The Measurement Phase
The signal data obtained in the measurement phase is then used to approximate the position of the
target node. Since, due to many factors range data often gets attenuated by noisy signal measurements,
optimization methods are to be employed to filter the noise and arrive at a more definite position
estimate. Lateration:When ranges between anchor nodes and the mobile node can be determined,
lateration is used to estimate position [35]. For two dimensional localization, three range
measurements from known positions (anchor nodes) are required. Radius of a circle of each category
as anchor nodes as represented in is the ideal position. At one point the three circles intersect, and that
the intersection is the location of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most common outputs include: Absolute positions: Positions with coordinate s information which
could be directly mapped to physical space. The absolute location could either be represented in
discrete space as cells or grids or in continuous space with coordinates. Relative positions: The
geometrical relative location by angle or distance to certain reference point (RP), in other word, the
absolute position of the user could be obtained only if absolute positions of RP are known. Logical
positions: Identifying user s position without information directly corresponding to physical space but
associated with certain patterns including motions, activities and landmarks. Physical location could
then be given by retrieving associate spatial features of those patterns. The output of a localization
system is closely related to the methodology or algorithms the system uses to localize. The calculation
of positions is the core engine of localization. We examine various existing methods and sort them
into following categories: Geometric: System based on geometric calculation including triangulation,
trilateration and multilateration, to give user s relative position to certain RP. When the absolute
positions of RP are known, the absolute position of user could be given. Inertial navigation system

I Am An Best Candidate For This Program
I believe that I am an excellent candidate for this program. For me, school is a top priority. I always
strive to be my best, and my G.P.A. proves my point. I put 100% effort into everything I do. I am not
nervous to talk to adults, and address any questions I have. To be at this high of a level of difficulty
demands hard work and devotion, and I have those qualities. There is so much in this program that
will help me succeed in life. First of all, this program will help me graduate college a year earlier than
the rest of my class. I am already young for my grade, so if I am involved in this program I will
graduate college at the age of 20 years old. I will be two years younger than most my graduating class.
This will help progress me in life, and give me a jump start. Also, the financial help is huge to me. In
my family, the burden of paying for college is placed on the children. I have a job, and a special bank
account, and every paycheck that I get goes into that account to make sure I have money for college.
But, if I got into this program, the stress of paying for college for two years will be taken off my
shoulders. This program goes along with my plan. After high school, I am going to go to Muskegon
Community College and receive my associate s degree, and then transfer to a state school where I will
achieve my masters degree. My ultimate career/educational goal is to go to college and earn my
bachelor s degree. I have not decided what I want to be, or major in, but

Personal Crime Theory
Personal Theory of Crime
There are many reasons as to why someone may commit crimes. No two people are exactly alike so I
don t believe there is a one size fits all theory of crime. You have to assess people on a case by case
basis to really understand why each person commits crime. There may be more than one factor in
some person s case that contributes to why they committed a crime; Factors such as, peer influence,
family situations, financial situations, mental disorders, and sometimes religious beliefs or cultural
differences. These to me are categories most reasons people commit crimes may fall under. Peer
influence can be from friends, family members, coworkers. I think the reason behind many of crimes
committed by teens is who they associate themselves with. Wanting to fit in with peers who commit
crimes to be cool, or just because all their friends are doing it. Gangs also fall into this category; a lack
of a strong family life can lead to a young man looking for a feeling of family in neighborhood gangs
or cliques. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

them to look for a family elsewhere. Some bad family situation could be their parents are the negative
influence. Many times young people are simply following the pattern of crime and violence that they
grew up seeing. To these people crimes are the norm. At a young age some men gain more
responsibilities around the house or just feel the need to do so in absence of his father. These young
men may commit criminal acts in order to receive money to help their families. To these individuals,
in my opinion, it is just a way to live. In their community the acts aren t considered deviant, but

Cu Honor Code Analysis
Hold Safety Paramount: Engineers must prioritize the safety, health and welfare of the public and
should try to practice sustainability as often as possible. In order to do this, engineers must realize that
major engineering decisions do impact the general public s well being and they must review their
decisions to ensure that they are safe. Engineers with reasons to believe that a fellow engineer is not
following the rules stated in Canon 1 must report this person to the authorities in charge.
Service With Competence: Engineers should only work in areas where they are qualified, but they are
allowed to accept assignments outside of their areas of expertise as long as they are only working on
the portions of the jobs in which they are qualified. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Canon 3 states that engineers must always issue true statements, and code 3B states that engineers
must be truthful in all reports, statements and testimonies. This is similar to the CU Honor Code,
because the CU Honor Code was established in order to create a community of trust. In order to
follow the CU Honor Code, one cannot cheat or plagiarise. This means that students must be honest
and truthful when taking tests and doing homework. All of the work done by a student must be their
own. The CU Honor Code also relates with ASCE code 5D and 5E. Canon 5 states that an engineer s
merit speaks for their professional reputation. Code 5D states that engineers shall not misrepresent
their academic or professional qualifications. If a student cheats or plagiarizes, they are
misrepresenting their academic qualifications by turning in work that doesn t accurately display their
academic capability. Code 5E states that engineers must give credit to fellow engineers where credit is
due. Plagiarizing or copying someone else s work, robs that person from the credit they deserve, and
gives the credit to a student who doesn t deserve it. Finally, the CU Honor Code relates to ASCE code
6A. Canon 6 states that engineers shall uphold the honor, integrity, and dignity of the engineering
profession. The point of the CU Honor Code is for the students of CU Boulder to uphold the honor of
the school. Code 6A states that engineers shall not knowingly engage in anything dishonest or
unethical. Cheating or plagiarism in any form is unethical and dishonest because if a student turns in
work with their name on it, even though the work done isn t their own, then this student is not telling

  • 2. Unequal Pay Among Women In the status quo, it is estimated that eighteen million women are left to live in poverty. (NWLC, 2014). This leads to women struggling to make ends meet. It s important to raise awareness for those whose voices have been silenced due to their lower status in society as they cannot be heard on their own. Many people tend to believe that both genders are equally exposed at the risk of poverty. However, it is statistically proven that women have higher poverty rates due to unequal pay rates, low paying occupations, a rise in divorce rates, and a growing number of single mothers from unplanned pregnancies. Worldwide, women are likely to have unjust pay rates which is a significant reason for poverty among women. According to the Institute for Women s Policy Research, women receive 80 cents for every dollar a man receives. (IWPR, 2015). Not only does the difference in pay rates result in women receiving lower salaries than men, but it results in women having to rationalize the low amount of money that they do receive. It is difficult to live in a world where resources are costly with a low salary. According to the United Nations Statistics Division, ...consistent with other studies, men s average salary was higher than women s average salary. (Barry A. Gerhart, 2015). This informs us of one of the reasons as to why women have a higher poverty rate. The unequal pay has been a strong issue debated in current society by many people. However, there has yet to be a solution to a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Rhetorical Address Logos, pathos, and ethos have been existing to empower and strengthen our writing. In this rhetorical analysis essay, logos, pathos, and ethos that are used in the Annual Address will be clearly identified and evaluated. The Annual Address written by Joseph Jackson discusses the issues of discrimination and racism. It was written and delivered at the 84th Annual Session of the National Baptist Movement. Unlike many others back in history, Jackson believes that actions should be taken place before any demanded result. Jackson appeals to his fellow race to take action and adds credibility to his claims by using historical examples from the past. Also, Jackson makes personal connections with his targeted audience, black people, which builds trust between the speaker and the reader. We will be examining the context of the this speech and Jackson s perspective and claims. The Annual Address starts off discussing the foundation of this nation. Into a few paragraphs, he addresses the civil rights struggle and the reason behind it. About half of his speech address some advice and suggestions for the future of the black people. Joseph Jackson writes the Annual Address, telling the black people to put an action in their beliefs and for justice, in a way contradicting King s perspective on peaceful protests. In page two, Jackson states, What is this struggle for civil rights? I answer, it is an effort of American citizens to get full equality of opportunity. It is the resolution and the determination that there shall be in these United States one class of citizens and that is first class citizens. This is a struggle to adopt in practice as well as theory the concept of man on which the Declaration of Independence is based, and to fully implement the Federal Constitution, one of the greatest documents for human freedom since the writing of the Magna Carta. The civil rights struggle is a struggle for full freedom, justice, and equality before the law. It is a struggle to bring from paper the lofty ideals of America, and to apply them in practice to the lives and actions of all Americans. In reality it is America s struggle to be herself, to fulfill the highest promises of her being, and to build a social order after ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Research Paper On Isma Ilism Isma ilism in Najran As statistics show, there are more than 1.8 billion Muslim around the world, which equals almost a quarter of the world s population. There are many denominations of Islam, but the big ones are Sunni, Shia, and Sufism. After Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) died, Muslims started separating based on who was supposed to be the next Caliph of Muslims; Sunni believe that Abu Bakr Mohammed s father in law was the first Caliph of Islam; whereas, Shias and Sufis believe that Ali Bin Abi Talib was supposed to be the first. Ismai lism, to which I belong, is the second biggest branch of Shia after the Imami or Jaafari group. • 5. Essay on Baddeley and Hitchā€™s Working Memory Model This essay addresses the working memory model which was proposed by Baddeley and Hitch (1974 in Smith Kosslyn, 2007) as a response to Atkinson and Shiffrins (1968 in Smith, 2007) multi store model. According to Baddely and Hitch the multi store model failed to explain most of the complexities of the human memory and viewed it as being too simplistic. They argued that the short term memory store must have more components rather it being a single inflexible store as suggested previously by Atkinson and Shiffrin (1968). The working memory model is therefore an enhancement of the multi store model. According to Baddeley and Hitch working memory is a limited capacity system that stores and processes information. According to Baddeley and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is interpreted as because the capacity of the phonological loop is limited in time (in Smith, 2007). Further evidence for the existence of the phonological loop comes from Conrads and Hulls (1975 in Passer, 2009) experiment in which they examined the effect of phonological similarity. They found that serial recall in a list of similar sounding words tended to yield poorer results with participants finding it difficult to remember compared to words that sounded different. It has also been found that recall in semantically similar words tended to have little or no effect, supporting the idea that verbal information is transferred in a phonological manner in working memory. In addition, Vallar and Papagno (1995 in Smith, 2007) found that the phonological store in brain damaged patients were dysfunctional. Moreover, Hardyk and Petrinovich (1970 in Parkin, 1993) found the articulatory loop to be crucial when being presented with complex information. In their study they measured participants throat muscle and forearm muscle activity although some may argue that this was not a good technique to carry out. Their findings led to them conclude that when participants were presented with complex material their articulatory loop would come in to function (in Parkin, 1993). In addition, memory span tasks support the existence of the articulatory loop showing that task ability heavily depends on a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Chrysalids Rebellion Quotes Chrysalids essay Kaden I think the author added rebellion of culture as a theme because we re so used to following our ways and not rebelling against culture and it mixes us up from what we re used too and intrigues us. I think the author hints that rebelling is acceptable in the novel so that we think about it and decide if it actually is. In the chrysalids rebellion happens because if a person is being harmed or discriminated in an unfair manner they are allowed to rebel. He thinks rebellion is ok because maybe a deviation could be helpful, for example David and his friends could talk without speaking. Also, I think the author argues it is ok to rebel to protect someone else from harm. Many people in the chrysalids rebel from their culture and society, these are just some examples of why the author lets rebellion happen. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 7. The Ejercito Zapatista De Liberacion Nacional The Ejercito Zapatista de LiberaciĆ³n Nacional (EZLN) is a current revolutionary group that resides in Chiapas, Mexico. A main problem that many believed that was resolved with the end of the Mexican War was the redistribution. Sadly, this phase of the war never reached Chiapas. For decades they were living in poverty and working for others. Consequently, many indigenous people ultimately revolted with the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), because it made the peasants lose more money than they originally had. With the Ejercito Zapatista de LiberaciĆ³n Nacional (EZLN) it demonstrated that the indigenous people were proud of their roots and that they would do anything to keep their dignity even if they were still peasants. MEXICAN REVOLUTION The start of the Mexican Revolution came about with the dictatorship of Porfiro Diaz. Porfiro Diaz was the president who came after Benito Juarez, the first indigenous president of Mexico. At Diaz was liked by many of the elite in Mexico due to the fact that they were able to gain wealth. One often forgets about the other side when wealth is being gained on one ... • 8. Positive And Negative Effects Of Mosquito According to the U.S. Center for Disease Control, every year more than 1.5 million people around the globe lose their lives due to mosquito borne diseases (2012). A mosquito is an insect which lives around the world especially in tropical and subtropical countries. The mosquito has both positive and negative effects. As part of positive effects, larvae of mosquitoes are food for fish and dragonflies, and when mosquitoes consume nectar, they help the flowers to pollinate. On the other hand, mosquitoes make people annoyed and cause many diseases. World Health Organization (2016) explains that the mosquito is the greatest menace which causes many diseases and they are responsible for more than million deaths and cases every year. • 9. Benefits and Shortcomings of Folksonomies Social tagging, which originally emerged as means for users to describe, organize and share content, forming groups known as folksonomies, has challenged the traditional idea of organizing knowledge within information systems, raising questions whether tags and folksonomies might improve information retrieval, thus bridging the gap between lay persons and builders (Smith 136 139; Lee and Schiyer 1747 1748; Rolla 174 175; 182 183). In fact, folksonomies have been proposed an alternative way to organize and find information, such as Park, who applying the information foraging theory, proposed that since users naturally collect and evaluate results, folksonomies can help facilitate the discovery of information through tag browsing, allowing users to find related tags classified by others(Smith 137; Park 515 518; 521 522). Yet, despite the uniqueness of this model, there could be shortcomings, because while tags serving as categories for browsing might be a good idea for smaller folksonomies, it would be difficult for a user to find all relevant items (recall) within a large folksonomy of thousands items, especially if the tags are broad, not connected by multiple terms, and the user is looking for specific information (Unit 1). Instead, tags would be more effective as indexing terms, something that has been explored for viability against library systems, such as in OPACS. Studies comparing tagging against indexing with OPACS have shown that OPACS run contrast to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The And The Doctrine Of Salvation Soteriology or the Doctrine of Salvation is perhaps the grandest and greatest them in Scripture. If we look at our world it s easy to see man s condition in sin. Mankind is completely helpless when the message of salvation is ignored. Our world remains shattered and town by the condition of sin, but God s gracious rescue plan through salvation and Jesus Christ will redeem us all and provide a solution to man s problems. () This union with Christ is called the magical exchange in which Christ assumes our debts and we inherit his wealth so that nothing (Horton pg.271) will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Ro 8:39) (Horton pg. 323 324) Let s visit the different layers of salvation. In our textbook, Horton starts with the blessing of Justification. God justifies the wicked. Justification is a legal act, wherein God deems the sinner righteous on the basis of Christ s righteousness. Horton tells us on pg. 280, God justifies the wicked not those who have done their best yet have fallen short, those who might at least be judged acceptable because of the sincerity, but those who, at the very moment of being pronounced righteous, are in themselves unrighteous. This means full repentance, which is defined as such, as a change of mind, or a conversion from sin to God. And the relinquishment of any practice from the conviction that has offended God. When we accept salvation we are also testifying to God that we are a changed person from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Analysis Of The Book The Great Gatsby By F. Scott... Part two begins slowly and adds more confusion. The story is overly convoluted with new characters and new events. Instead of Chris working on figuring out who s after him and finding the chip, the story changes directions and it turns into stopping a major explosion and about a new world order. Also, James dominates part two, not Chris. In fact, characters well established in part one, are not active in part two, such as Kurt Slowensky. Part two spends too much time on the hypnosis scene, the political unrest, Big Mike (Mike Berg), dreams about James and Chris, and flashbacks about James time in Somalia, and other series of events. The concern is that the first parts of the story (part 1) setup a strong expectation that this story would be about retrieving information from James memory regarding the location of the chip. However, part two feels like an entirely different script. Thus, it would benefit the script to focus on the main storyline set up in the first script. However, part 2 offers more action, which is absent in part one. Both part 1 and part 2 need to be combined, but it needs to focus on ONE main goal. Too many flashbacks confuse the audience. The only flashbacks should be relevant to Chris finding the chip or putting pieces together about who might be after him. Granted, he may stumble upon a bigger conspiracy, but it has to be fluidly connected to part one. The timeline in part two remains unclear. Also, at times, it s unclear if James is truly ... • 12. Sears Kmart Merger Essay Due to slow sales and less traffic at both Sears and Kmart, the two have decided to merge creating one entity named Sears Holdings. Kmart has agreed to buy Sears for $11 Billion. This puts Sears Holdings at the third largest retailer behind Wal Mart and Home Depot. Although Wal Mart is a direct competitor with Kmart, Sears Holdings goal is not to compete with Wal Mart directly, but find areas that have been overlooked by other retailers, and take advantage of the expanded line of products the new company has to offer. The merger of these two corporations would create more jobs. Sears is looking to create more of a presence outside of shopping malls, creating more Sears locations in single store setups in a similar way to Kmart. Current CEO of Sears Alan J. Lacy, will become the Vice Chairman of the new company. His strategy of opening more Sears stores outside of the usual shopping mall would require many of the current Sears locations to be closed. In the long run jobs at new Sears locations would have to be filled, but the creation of those new jobs would have to be postponed until the new Sears stores are opened. In the meantime, the news of many Sears closings would put many workers out of a job. Currently Kmart has been constantly losing to competitors such as Wal Mart and Target. Target is seen as a higher class store compared to the other two, and Wal Mart is seen as a good store with good prices. Kmart has had trouble finding it s own identity. They try to market themselves as being a better bargain than Wal Mart, but the store is viewed as being cheap from the customer s point of view. Inman is a strong, quiet and very moral country boy, very different to the higher class Ada, who herself does not fit in with Inman s country lifestyle. Just as Inman and Ada realise their love for each other Inman is forced to fight for the South in the war, and Ada is left to look after herself. Inman then struggles to make his way back to his lover; and with no means of contact Ada spends her time trying to keep up hope that Inman is still alive. Oskar Schindler saves almost a thousand Jews lives from near certain death by acting upon his morals which tell him that the persecution that is occurring is not right. So through dialogue and camera shots Minghella creates a strong impression of Inman, his resolution and his endurance. Another character which Minghella creates a strong impression of is Ada. At the beginning of the film Minghella presents Ada as a higher class southern belle and because of this we assume that she will be frail, and not take well to hard times. Minghella uses costume to show that Ada is a lady. For example Ada arrives into the small farming town of Cold Mountain wearing a very impractical but beautiful white dress. However when the war starts and Ada is left on her own, she is able to change and become a hard working southern girl, and she obtains a new found strength to her character that neither she, nor the viewer, realised she had. She starts to dress in far more practical farm clothes which are torn and dirty, and this change in costume reflects her change in character. She learns how to run a farm, and for the first time in her life she does hard labour, which when we first meet Ada we would not have predicted she could do. Yeats is saying that, although they are unhappy with their lives, they have not given up hope. They still feel that they can find perfect happiness. They realize that this happiness cannot be found in the lives they are currently living. Yeats often used the image of the cross or of Christ s crucifixion to symbolize things such as discord, incompleteness, opposition, mortality, temporality (Ellmann and O Clair, 135). With this line, he is saying that these people have given up hope that they will ever be happy in their hectic, strife filled, material worlds. The empirical evidence, suggests that immigrants improve labor market efficiency by providing additional and complementary labor force. Labor market impact of immigration depends on the size and geographic location of the immigrant population and on the skills they bring to the labor market and how these skills compare with those of natives (Borjas, 2006:4). Broadly speaking, immigration is not detrimental to the host labor market or economy. Most of the research on the labor market impact of immigration has been concerned with the impact of immigration on wages rather than labor force participation or unemployment rates. Borjas (2003) noted that the impact of wages fluctuates from study to study but clusters around zero which is contradictory with theoretical prediction of a downward pressure. Whether the reasons are methodological issues (misspecification, endogeneity, and heterogeneity), market forces in specific cases (area vs. factor proportion approach4) or institutional factors has not been established. A meta analysis of international research (Longhi et at, 2004) identifies common findings that are also likely to apply to Argentina. With an overall mean of 0.119 standard deviations on wages, the authors highlight that the downward effects is larger in more rigid labor markets, that studies that do not control for endogeneity of the proportion of ... John Steinbeck, the author of Of Mice and Men uses these elements in his book to portray the hope, sadness and the immediate change between these two feelings, to advise the reader about the conflicts that migrant workers experienced while working on the ranch. John Steinbeck uses the elements of light, darkness, and the immediate change between the two to portray the hope, sadness, and the sudden change of feelings, that happens to the ranch workers in this book. Griffin, the invisible man, first appears as a mysterious stranger, bandaged and seeking shelter and recluse but progressively transforms into a lawless individual with a proposition to initiate a reign of terror. The change in Griffin s character occurs due to his invisibility and the power it provides because there is no one, on this view, who is iron willed enough to maintain his morality and find the strength of purpose to keep his hands off what does not belong to him, when he is able to take whatever he wants from the market stalls without fear of being discovered, to enter houses and sleep with ... The absence of consequences strips away the good in Griffin s nature and fosters his madness as he starts stealing from the markets and begins his spree of breaking into houses. However, the invisibility that Griffin viewed as power ultimately is a poison as the invisible man must sacrifice greatly for his for his power. The invisible man schemes grand dreams that can be realized through his invisibility but discovers that no doubt invisibility made it possible to get them, but it made it impossible to enjoy them when they are got (Wells 121). Because of his invisibility, the invisible man finds himself ostracized, in a state of danger, and no longer able to enjoy everyday customs like eating lunch at a restaurant. Griffin finds himself even unable to celebrate his discovery with others with fear of that they might steal credit for his feat or that the exposure might cause a rejection.
