In the memoir Night, Elie Wiesel loses his faith in God due to his experiences in the Holocaust. He is disturbed by the absence of God despite the immense suffering of the prisoners. His loss of faith is furthered by the dehumanization of prisoners and the death all around him, including the death of his father which causes him to lose his will to live. Through it all, Wiesel comes to question and ultimately lose his once strong religious faith.
