This document discusses the use of presentations as social media for businesses. It provides a brief history of PowerPoint and discusses how sharing presentations online differs from traditional media. Businesses are increasingly using social platforms like Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter to share video, presentations, and documents. On SlideShare, about 25% of content is business-related and many users have a business goal in mind when sharing. SlideShare's business model allows free sharing but charges for targeted promotion and lead generation capabilities. The document encourages businesses to utilize visuals and presentations to both inform and inspire while achieving their communication goals.

What’s the secret to creating content that spreads like wildfire? There are no guarantees when it comes to going viral in social media, but there are certain types of content that do better than others. This presentation was adapted from previous presentations of Amy Vernon's on the topic, for the first of a three-part webinar series with Bill Belew and Phill Hollows.

What does it mean to Evolve? Why do Libraries need to Evolve? Through this session, Brian Pichman of the Evolve Project will discuss the importance of redesigning library spaces to make them more interactive and collaborative. The Evolve Project is a collaborative platform that aims to change the way people see libraries through the injection of technology that fosters collaboration and exploration. These technologies include laser tag, Sphero Balls, Sifteo Cubes, interactive Legos, and so much more! See what other libraries have done to build maker spaces, fab labs, and other creative concepts that you can start today!
The success of libraries in the future will be determined by its ability to create stories rather than provide them. One way to accomplish this is by putting technology and people together so patrons become creators in makerspaces or other learning environments. Discover great new learning technologies and techniques for patrons, and how to build your new fablab or hackerspace. Arm yourself with facts for having interactive spaces to get buy-in from everyone from staff to public to the IT teams. Lastly, we will discuss ways to continually train and engage the staff so that your environment will constantly evolve.

[insert period joke here] Researching Menstruation OnlineAstrid Bigoni
This is a presentation of the research project [insert period joke here] Researching Menstruation Online, conducted during the Digital Methods Summer School 2013 in Amsterdam. The project aimed to unravel and understand how menstruation is described and discussed across different languages, platforms and cultures online.
In many respects, menstruation is still a taboo in Western societies. Women are encouraged to hide their menstruation and not talk about it in public. In the public sphere there seem to be two dominant approaches and discourses surrounding menstruation. One is a pathological perspective, which frames menstruation as something that needs medication; either in order for women to cope with their menstruation, or for women to get rid of their menstruation all together. The other sees menstruation as a hygiene problem that needs to be fixed.
We aimed to reveal the extent to which these constructed discourses are replicated and/or challenged across different cultures, languages and platforms online.

Real-time Data De-duplication using Locality-sensitive Hashing powered by Sto...DECK36
Data de-duplication, in our case also called "Entity Matching", is not just about reducing multiple instances of the same item to one in order to save some space. It is a challenging task with many practical applications from health care to fraud prevention: "Is this person the same patient as ten years ago, but has moved in the meantime?", "Is this personalized spam mail the same email that was sent to many others, yet customized in each case?", or "Was there a spike resp. what is the base level of similar looking account creations?". In the age of Big Data, we do have the data to answer such questions, but heuristically comparing each item to all other items quickly becomes technically prohibitive for huge data sets.
In this session, we will have a look at past practises and current developments in the world of data de-duplication. After that, we will look at how to leverage locality-sensitive hashing algorithmically to reduce the amount of comparisons to a workable level. A demonstration will feature our implementation of that algorithm on top of Riak and Storm. The session will then finish with an overview of experiments and results using that system on different datasets, including browser fingerprints, tweets, and news articles.

On June 16, 2016, the FASB issued Accounting Standards Update 2016-13, Financial Instruments – Credit Losses (Topic 326) (the “ASU”). The ASU introduces a new model for recognizing credit losses on financial instruments based on an estimate of current expected credit losses. The new model will apply to: (1) loans, accounts receivable, trade receivables, and other financial assets measured at amortized cost, (2) loan commitments and certain other off-balance sheet credit exposures, (3) debt securities and other financial assets measured at fair value through other comprehensive income, and (4) beneficial interests in securitized financial assets.

Enterprise Excellence is Inclusive Excellence.pdfKaiNexus
Enterprise excellence and inclusive excellence are closely linked, and real-world challenges have shown that both are essential to the success of any organization. To achieve enterprise excellence, organizations must focus on improving their operations and processes while creating an inclusive environment that engages everyone. In this interactive session, the facilitator will highlight commonly established business practices and how they limit our ability to engage everyone every day. More importantly, though, participants will likely gain increased awareness of what we can do differently to maximize enterprise excellence through deliberate inclusion.
What is Enterprise Excellence?
Enterprise Excellence is a holistic approach that's aimed at achieving world-class performance across all aspects of the organization.
What might I learn?
A way to engage all in creating Inclusive Excellence. Lessons from the US military and their parallels to the story of Harry Potter. How belt systems and CI teams can destroy inclusive practices. How leadership language invites people to the party. There are three things leaders can do to engage everyone every day: maximizing psychological safety to create environments where folks learn, contribute, and challenge the status quo.
Who might benefit? Anyone and everyone leading folks from the shop floor to top floor.
