The State Nurses Registration Council (SNRC) is an independent body that regulates nursing programs and professionals within each state of India. It maintains a register of licensed nurses, sets standards for nursing education and practice, and ensures only qualified individuals are allowed to practice nursing. Registration with the SNRC is mandatory for all nurses holding a diploma or degree in order to legally practice. The council inspects nursing schools, conducts licensing exams, takes disciplinary actions if needed, and renews registrations to keep nursing standards high.

2. Introduction:-
 It is a independent & recognized as a body who
can make status & prescribe low for trained nurse
& prospective nurses who are undergoing various
nursing programmes.
 Although it is an independent body but it has to
obtained approval from state government for all
the lows passed by it & decision making.
 This council help to maintain a register of the
names of professional nurses.

3.  Registration is must for diploma & degree
course in nursing.
 Registration system help to maintain the high
standard among the professional nurses.
 Registration serve as a legal protection to the
nurse & also to the public as it prevent
disqualified & incompetent persons to
practice nursing.

4.  The training of nurses, Midwives, Health
visitors & ANM’s is to a large extent
controlled by the nurses registration council
in the states.
 Registration in the state nursing council is
very necessary to be registered in order to
practice officially as a professional nurse.
 Registration council are functional in all the
states of India & they are affiliated to INC.

5.  Each state nurse registration council maintain
a register for names of professional nurse.
 The name of these nurses are also put in to
Indian Nurse Registration Council.
 All the diploma & degree holder nurses have
to register With a State Nurses Registration
Council

6. Function of SNRC;-
 To inspect school of nursing in their state.
 To conduct examination for GNM & ANM courses.
 To prescribe rules of conduct, take disciplinary
actions.
 Registration of nurses & midwives & other.
 Maintenance of register of nurses, Midwives &
other.
 To renew registration & upgrade registration.

8. Procedure of registration:-
The institution where the student nurse has received education initiates
the registration process after successful completion of the
recognized educational course
The SNC issue diploma to the nurse. After that the application for
registration is filled through a form which has to be duly filled along
with the certified copy from the training institute stating that she/he
has complete the course successfully
This form has to be send to the register with the required process fee
& a copy of diploma. with the registration process ,the name of the
nurse is entered in the state register maintained in the council
Registration certificate is issued to the nurse which bears the
registration number ensuring that her/his name has been register.
