Terminology
• Professionalism: the competence or skill
expected of professional.
• North star: something that is constant and
dependable ever changing world.
• Legacy: anything handed over down from
the past, as from an ancestor or predecessoer
Definition of Nursing:
• The unique function of the nurse is to assist the
individual , sick or well, in the performance of those
activities contributing to health or its recovery (or to
peaceful death) that he would perform unaided if he
had the necessary strength, will or knowledge.

Nursing profession:
• The authority for the practice of nursing is
based upon a social contract that delineates
professional rights and responsibilities as well
as mechanisms for public accountability. In
almost all countries, nursing practice is
defined and governed by law, and entrance to
the profession is regulated at the national or
state level.

Accoding to Drucker ‘The mission of an
organization is a general enduring statement of
the organization the extent of which embodies
the decision maker’s philosophy; it implies the
image which the organization seeks to project.’
• “Essential purpose of the organization ,
concerning particularly why it is in existence,
the nature of the business it is in, and the
customers it seeks to serve and satisfy.”
Meaning of the mission statement:
• What do we do today?
• For whom do we do?
• What is the benefit?
Elements :
• Purpose statement: it is essential to focus on
outcomes and results rather than methods.
• The business or activities statement: the
statement outlines the ‘business(es)’( i.e.,
activities or programs) the organization chooses
in order to pursue its purpose.
• Values: that the members of organization’s holds
in common and endeavor to put into practice.
• Purpose of mission statement:
• It should help workers within the organization
know what decision and tasks best align with
the mission of the company.
• It serves as a guide for the company’s entire
decision making.
• A mission statement offers insight into what
company leader’s view as the primary purpose
for being profession.

objectives.

world. We influence health, social & economic
policy at country, regional and global level through
the sharing of evidence & best practice. ICN
envisions a world in which human rights are
respected and protected including the right of
present and future populations to safe, healthy and
sustainable environment. We work in partnership
and collaboration to advance profession and advocate for
the respect of cultural values, customs and spritual
beliefs.
