“Community health nursing is a synthesis of nursing practice and
public health practice applied to promoting and preserving the
health of populations. It is not limited to a particular age group
or diagnosis and is continuing not episodic. The dominant
responsibility is to the population as a whole; nursing directed
top individuals, families, or groups contributes to the health of
the total population. Health promotion, health maintenance,
health education and management, coordination and continuity
of care are utilized in a holistic approach to the management of
the health care of individuals, families and groups in a
community”

individual.
 The possession by individuals of potentialities
and resources for managing their own lives.
 The importance of freedom to express one’s
individuality.
 The great capacity for growth within all
social beings.
 The right of an individual for basic
necessities.

1) Effective health workers, irrespective of position or
place work, function as a team.
2) The health worker is responsible to the authorized
health authority.
3) Professional relationships and etiquette are
essential in public health services.
4) Any person who works with village people can and
should help o carry out the health programme.
5) Health services should be available to people
irrespective of age, sex, creed, nationality,
political affiliation or social or economic status.
6) The health worker must be non- political and
non sectarian in her relationship with people.
7) The public health worker must never accept
gifts or bribes.
8) Health services should be based on needs.
9) Health services should be realistic in terms of
available personnel and facilities.
