Threat of new entrants to the industry is low.
Huge capital required to entry into the market
Four largest competitors accounted for approximately 83% of the industry revenue
New competitors need to spend heavily on marketing to promote their brand
Difficulties of accessing to distribution channels as large retail buyers prefer to deal with large

Malignant Neoplasm Essay
What is a Malignant Neoplasm?
A malignant neoplasm is a tumor composed of poorly differentiated cells. Neo means new and
plasm refers to cells. The word neoplasm refers to abnormal overgrowth of cells rather than healthy
new cell growth. It is often used interchangeably with words such as tumor and cancer. It is a
cancerous tumor that grows, proliferates, infiltrates and metastasizes to other parts of the body. It
can spread to surrounding tissues, through lymph nodes or through the bloodstream. It often
requires surgical removal. If it is left untreated, it can result in death.

The tumor becomes larger and may possibly invade surrounding tissues or spread to other parts of
the body via the lymphatic system or the bloodstrem. If a vital organ such as the brain or liver or
multiple organs are extensively damaged by the cancer, then death will occur. The treatments
available for treating malignant cancer include surgery and chemotherapy. However, once metastasis
has occurred, the prognosis is poor and treatment is very complicated.
Some of the main types of cancer are described below:
Leukemia This affects the tissues that make blood, such as the bone marrow. Large numbers of
abnormal cells are produced in the bone marrow, which then spread to the bloodstream
Carcinoma This begins in the skin or tissues that line organs.
Lymphoma Originates in the immune system
Sarcoma This develops in blood vessels, muscle, cartilage, bone or other types of connective tissue
Cancer of the central nervous system Originates in the tissues of the brain and spinal

Ed Fletcher s Response To The Message
Ed Fletcher was one of the creators of the song The Message by Grandmaster Flash and the
Furious Five, which was released in 1982. This song depicted a horrible scene of blacks living in
the ghettos, which was relevant socially because of the issue of racism that was being
addressed, and had been an issue for a long time. Although the book didn t mention much about
his personal life, as a black man it is obvious why he would want to create a song that addresses
racism towards blacks. The Message takes the approach of describing the awful treatment that
people living in the ghettos were receiving, which was particularly relevant to the artists who
created the song, like Ed Fletcher as I just mentioned, because they were all blacks who had likely
experienced this situation. The lyrics used in the song, such as Got no money to move out, I guess
I got no choice, Rats in the front room, roaches in the back, Junkies in the alley with a baseball bat

This song talks about someone coming home from the war who wasn t treated very well. They
lyrics are very straightforward, depicting a story through words such as, Got in a little
hometown jam, so they put a rifle in my hand; Sent me off to a foreign land to go and kill the
yellow man (Google). What s particularly ironic about this is that a lot of people thought that the
song was very patriotic, even though it s lyrics clearly state the opposite. One reason the book
suggested this might have been so was because people might not have even been listening to the
lyrics, hence weakening the impact of his message. One reason why Springsteen might have
created this song was because although he didn t have this experience himself, a lot of people his
age had come home from the war not long before and received this rough

Community Service By Robert Coles
Politically, socially, environmentally or one person at a time, how will you give back to society?
Day in and day out many citizens change the world, or they do just the opposite and make the
world a worse place than when they woke up. The article I chose to review is, Community Service
written by Robert Coles. The article tells a story of college students who make a difference in the
worldthrough peer tutoring, an act of community service, and have such an impact that they act
as role models for Coles and he begins to do the same. Briefly in the beginning of the article,
Coles states that, students are likely to express their lofty political and social impulses and
practical desires to change the world through community service, even if in limited or modest
ways. (Robert Coles, pg.93) We must make an ultimate decision about the world we live in, will
we choose to make a difference in the lives of fellow citizens or discriminate and punish not only
them but ourselves by not sharing the knowledge we have been taught. Within the article, Robert
Coles shares experiences and quotes from a college junior who once told him, I want to help kids
I know. (Robert Coles, pg.94) Cole believed he seemed both voluble and impassioned. As the
college junior tutors in the ghetto, he teaches the children that there is a better life outside of the
world they are currently living in, provided they study hard and receive a good education. The
junior has a remarkable sense on what

It seems like everywhere you go you are reminded that it is that time of the year. Just a short drive
around town it is evident that flu shots are encouraged everywhere one looks. From medical
personnel to store checkouts one finds themselve bombarded with the question, Have you gotten
your flu shot yet? Anyone and everyone is a candidate for the flu vaccine according to local
pharmacies. (and many people are buying into this mantra). Millions of Americans will receive
the flu vaccination without a doctor s note or regard to any underlying conditions. The only
question asked is, Can you roll up your sleeve for me? Many blindly receive the flu vaccine
without question and assume that it is effective without factual knowledge. In the healthcare
system it is a requirement to get vaccinated, unless one wishes to be sectioned off and forced to
wear a mask during work. Mandatory vaccinations have been enacted among some employers
pushing employees to receive the vaccination. This is despite their views, concerns, or questions in
regards to the safety and effectiveness of the flu vaccination. There is much debate over whether
the pros outweigh the cons in regards to inoculation. In an age where

Pathos In Rigoberta Menchu
I, Rigoberta MenchГє, is the personal narrative of a Guatemalan QuichГ© indigenous woman and
her experiences as part of a culture and people severely discriminated against. MenchГє speaks of
life for a vast majority of the indigenous population in Guatemala. She describes a life of extreme
poverty plagued by violence, starvation, and socio economic inequality. Her people have been
systematically oppressed since the Spanish conquest of Guatemalaand have been forced into a
subservient position to an elite minority who controls the means of production. These elitists are a
portion of a larger group that MenchГє refers to as ladinos. A ladino is any Guatemalan who rejects
his or her indigenous heritage and who views himself or herself as superior to the Maya people.
The death of MenchГє s family prompts her to speak on behalf of all indigenous people and
dedicate her life to overthrowing the relation of domination and exclusion that characterizes
Guatemalan society. In order to accomplish this, MenchГє acts pragmatically and adopts techniques
from ladino culture, such as the Spanish language and Christianity, to more effectively protect her
own culture. MenchГє uses pathos, appealing to her readers empathy, to gain their support for her
human rights efforts by demonizing ladino culture through horrific examples of violence and the
idea that she can only resist racial discrimination by assimilating to the culture perpetuating it. As

The Importance of Biological Factors in the Development of Gender Identity
The biosocial theory suggests that gender identity develops as a result of the obvious biological
differences between boys and girls and the hormonal differences between the sexes which can be
observed in the foetus from about six weeks (Durkin, 1995). Supporting evidence has been found
through animal studies, such as that by Young, Goy and Phoenix (1964) who gave testosterone to
pregnant monkeys and found that any female offspring were prone to be unusually aggressive.
Evidence is also found in case studies of humans. Imperato McGinley et al. (1974) studied a family
in the Dominican Republic in which four children were born ... Show more content on

This demonstrates the part played by both hormonal and psychological factors, working against
genetic factors , in the development of gender identity.
The sociobiological theory argues that males and females look and behave differently because
they are driven to behave in ways that maximise their chances to reproduce and pass on their
genes. As females produce a limited supply of eggs at some physical cost they must ensure that
each reproduction is as successful as possible by selecting a mate with good genes who can
provide for them and their offspring. In contrast, males produce large amounts of sperm at almost
no physical cost and therefore maximise their chances of passing on their genes through
promiscuity. The sexy sons hypothesis argues that females select males who posses characteristics
which they would like their sons to inherit, in order that the sons are selected as mates by other
females, continuing the genetic line. The handicapping theory suggests that females seek males
with robust genes, demonstrated by the males ability to sustain characteristics that incur a
physiological cost, such as a peacock s elaborate tail.
Research evidence in support of the sociobiological theory includes Davis (1990) findings that men
advertising for a mate emphasise their wealth and other resources and women focus on their own
physical attractiveness. Cross cultural studies,

Grant Wood’s American Gothic Essay
Grant Wood s American Gothic is one of the most famous paintings in the history of American art.
The painting brought Wood almost instant fame after being exhibited for the first time at the Art
Institute of Chicago in 1930. It is probably the most reproduced and parodied works of art, and
has become a staple within American pop culture. The portrait of what appears to be a couple,
standing solemnly in front of their mid western home seems to be a simplistic representation of
rural America. As simple as it sounds, when looking deeper into this image, it reveals something
much more complex. The first thing to notice about this painting is how incredibly involved and
realistic the brushwork is. The couple s faces are so delicately... Show more content on

It is almost a reflection of the man s trident. That same pitchfork shape also appears in the
window of the house that sits in between both figure s heads. Repetition can also be seen in the
dotted pattern of the woman s outfit, which also appears in the material of the curtain that hangs
in the house s window. The echo of verticals in this painting is also strong. The faces and bodies
of the figures seem to be stretched, and narrowed. The pitchfork s slender prongs and the green
stripes on the man s shirt also add to the elongation of their frame. The copious amounts of
vertical wood boards that make up the house and the barn, keep the viewer s eye moving up and
down the picture plane. Wood s use of verticality in this painting is overwhelming. There is also
a striking luminosity to the painting. The man and the woman s faces appear to slightly glow,
as if you can really see the reflection of the sun beaming off of their skin. This was achieved by a
complex method of applying glazes. Wood would apply a layer of oil paint, allow it to dry, and
then varnish it. This tedious process would be repeated numerous times. It was a process
perfected by the 16th century Venetian painter, Titian. The series of glazes seems to have created
an overwhelming sense of depth and radiance within the paint. Wood s use of glazes is not the
only reference to early Italian painters. It is clear that Wood was inspired by Northern

WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM GENETIC ALGORITHMS?
Nearly everyone can gain benefits from Genetic Algorithms, once he can encode solutions of a
given problem to chromosomes in GA, and compare the relative performance (fitness) of solutions.
An effective GA representation and meaningful fitness evaluation are the keys of the success in GA
applications.
Gas are useful and efficient when the search space is large, complex or poorly understood,
traditional search methods fail, domain knowledge is scarce or expert knowledge is difficult to
encode to narrow the search space and no mathematical analysis is available. The advantage of the
GA approach is the ease with which it can handle arbitrary kinds of constraints and objectives; all
such things can be handled as weighted components of the fitness function, making it easy to adapt
the GA scheduler to the particular requirements of a very wide range of possible overall objectives.

The Battle Between Christianity And Islam
Towards the end of the eleventh century in Western Europe and Eurasia, a range of social,
economical and religious influences collectively influenced the sequence of religious wars which
we know as the Crusades. Although the series of holy wars against Islam is typically portrayed as
the fault of overzealous popes and belligerent kings; the truth behind the clash between Christianity
and Islam is far more elaborate. The direct repercussions following two centuries of prolonged
warfare afflicted Christendom with the loss of several millions of lives and immense financial
expenditure. On the contrary, the Crusadesstimulated the fundamental expansion and the ultimate
downfalls of nations in both the Western and Eastern fields.
Contrary to popular belief, the Crusades (1095 A.D 1291 A.D) were defensive wars in response to
Islamic expansion following Prophet Mohammed s death in the 7th century. It is all too commonly
assumed that the Crusades were the vanguard of the Church s self righteousness and prejudice that
warped the enlightened Oriental culture with Western antagonism. Although elements of these
assumptions are true to some extent; the Crusaders ultimate objective was to defend against the
very Muslims who initially prompted their response by conquering Christian lands in the name of
Allah. Similar to the Crusaders dogma of war, the Islamists had a warfare doctrine as well. In
traditional Islam the world was divided into several spheres known as abodes. Two abodes

Ten Little Soldiers Summary
This book is about ten strangers who receive invitations from U.N. Owen to meet at Soldier
Island (off in England), the island that used to be owned by an American who hosted big
parties. So because they thought there would be a huge event, each individual gladly accepts.
Little did they know that no one else was going to be on that island. The guests arrive and meet
each other, except they still have no clue who Mr. or Mrs. U.N. Owen is. As they eat dinner, a
gramophone plays announcing why each guest has been invited, because they all have
committed murder that the law can t touch. As their vacation goes by, each soldier or guest dies
off one by one in a particular manner, their deaths follow those of the poem by Frank Green
titled Ten Little Soldiers or Ten Little Indians. The setting is on Soldier Island. Aan island in
Devon, England. There are no hills or caves, it is just a piece of land with a large house standing
on it. The book takes place at early August. From the eighth to the twelfth. There are so many
main characters because the book was about all ten guests. I think the most important character
is the murderer himself who is given a better description in the end of the book. Justice Wargrave
also known as U.N. Owen. Wargrave was accused of sending Edward Seton to his death because
he found him guilty in court while 9 out of 10 said he was innocent. He grew up with the lust to

Class Or Socioeconomic Level Analysis
Class or socioeconomic level is typically defined as social sets, where each particular group share
similar or the same resources, in terms of economical, property, and status (Phillips, 2012).
Therefore, it tends to be a rank in accordance to wealth, power, and income, meaning the more
you have of each of these the higher the class will be (Lyall, 2016). This idea of class or
socioeconomic level has a huge impact on children in the New Zealand educationsector, as many
policies indirectly effecting education typically advantages the middle classfamilies (Thrupp, 2007).

Class plays a major contributor to the standard of health children bring into the education sector,
those from working class families tend to have a lower standard of health than those in middle
class families (Brooks Gunn Duncan, 1997). This is due to a number of reasons, all resulting
back to the limited access working class families have to needed amenities. Working class are
likely to have a limited access to healthy foods, as these foods are typically more expensive
(Stephens, Markus, Fryberg, 2012). Therefore, these families receive little nutritional food,
which leads to a large amount of diseases and unhealthy habits. Housing also impacts on the
health of children which influences on the education sector. This is because working class tends
to only have access to a lower quality of housing, these may be houses that are potentially damp,
and cold (Childrens Commissioner, 2010). This leads to an unhealthy environment, which causes
the children and families to be unwell, therefore lowering their standard of health. Working class
also have less access to services such as health care and services (Childrens Commissioner, 2010).
Therefore, they are less likely to rebound as quickly from illness, as those in middle class would,
with a large access to healthcare. These issues have a significant effect on the health of the children,
and therefore on the education sector, as it leads

Roadrunner Research Paper
The world is full of birds designed by God to survive. Some birds live in water, some in air and
some on land. One of the birds that live on land is the roadrunner. The roadrunner can be found
throughout Texas and the surrounding areas. A lot of people that watch the Road Runner cartoon
have an idea of what a road runner is that may not be true. For instance, the road does not have a
long slender neck and is not purple. It is also not a huge or tall bird. The roadrunner s speed,
physical appearance and diet make them a well designed bird for survival in the desert.
Roadrunners are very fast running birds with a speed of at least 15mph. They got their name
from being seen running along the road in front of horse drawn vehicles. They are faster than
bicycles and can catch prey easily. When they run they hand their head low so that it s head and
wings are parallel with the ground to help them run faster. They use their tail for balance and

Delegation Can Be A Slippery Slope For Any Manager
Delegation can be a very slippery slope for any manager, but it has become a necessary component
of many organizational management structures. While it can be an extremely effective
management strategy, many times it is approached incorrectly and thus falls short of expected
results. This is the case we see presented in the case studyfor this assignment. It seems that our
manager/delegator, Ms. Wilson, is looking to remove some items from her current workload in
order to facilitate more time to devote to her expanding supervisory duties that are not able to be
delegated. To her credit, she did take the time to establish a list of tasks contained within her daily
activities and reduce them to items that were able to be delegated. This is a crucial and key step,
as discussed within our text. While we don t know the extent of the items that may have been
included on this list, Ms. Wilson did narrow the initial delegation to a single task: gathering the data
and generating a monthly statistical report. It s at this point that I feel things went a bit astray in
the delegation process that eventually would lead to the failure of the process. First, just as
important and organizing and stratifying a list of tasks for delegation, is the process of organizing
and stratifying a list of potential candidates to perform those tasks. While we know in our case
study that Ms. Wilson chose George Peters for the task, we don t have any indication that she
performed her due

Biblical Eras Of Creation, The Patriarchs, And The Ketuvim
Referred to as Tanak by Jews, the Hebrew Bible contains twenty four books characterized by
three categories: The Torah, the Nevi im, and the Ketuvim, which outline the history and beliefs
of the Jewish faith. The Torah, commonly known as the Law of Moses, contains the books of
Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. These five narrative books cover the
Biblical eras of creation, the patriarchs, and the exodus. In Genesis 1, God created everything
from nothing at His will in six days and proclaimed all of it good. Humankind was created, Adam
and Eve, in God s image, and they lived in the pure garden of Eden. Sin is introduced to the
world when a serpent convinces Eve, who subsequently convinces Adam, to eat from the the tree
of good and evil, which God strictly forbade. God judged their sin, bans them from Eden, they
went out in the world, and birthed sons Cain and Abel. After Cain killed Abel out of jealousy,
God again judged sin by cursing Cain, but exemplified forgiveness in Genesis 6 through his
promise to curse whoever tried to hurt him. Generations later, descendant of Adam, Noah, is
introduced, as well as his wife Naamah and their sons Shem, Ham, and Japheth. In Genesis 6,
God decided to start over, but saved Noah, his family, and animals, by telling Noah to build an ark
to endure the great flood. Noah fulfilled God s orders and built an alter to Him after the flood
seceded, but his descendants prove the corruptness of humankind yet again and God

Paradox Of Grief
One of the themes that that we covered in lecture is grief, including the different types of grief
that people experience, and the ways in which people learn to deal with grief. In life, we will all
experience the death of someone close to us at one point in our lives. Because their death may
be very hard on us, grieving will help us get through our daily lives and help us heal from this
pain. Everyone responds to a loss in their lives in different ways, depending on the type of person
he/she is and the cause of deathof their loved one. When we experience a difficult loss in our lives,
we respond by grieving and learning to accept this loss. According to Kastenbaum, there are many
types of grief, including: normal and complicated grief, anticipatory grief, resolved and
unresolved grief, and hidden and disenfranchised grief. Specifically, Kastenbaum explains how
grief should be resolved within a reasonable period of time, but at the same time, the loss of a
crucial relationship is never completely resolved: we move on with our lives, but we will never
be the same again (Kastenbaum, 350). This reminds me of Susan Patron s the Higher Power of

One of the paradoxical truths that we discussed in lecture was that death leads to grief over loss;
and yet death involves a new life, even gain (Lecture, May 16). This also relates to Lucky s
situation because the death of her mother led to her grieving process, but it also made her look at
life differently and gain from her experiences. Through grieving for her mother s death, Lucky
was able to find her higher power and learn how to get through difficult situations in life. She is
now also able to accept her new life as Brigitte legally adopts her and gain an understanding of life
and death through her

Why There Are More Than Students
WHY THERE ARE MORE FEMALE STUDENTS IN UNIVERSITY
University is a place providing people with higher education and training, where they can
gain not only academic but also social knowledge. Historically, men have always been considered
superior to women for their strength and intelligence. Typical stereotypes are that while the
males are more rational, decisive and stronger; the females are more fragile and delicate. To
demonstrate the long held belief, it can be seen that the majority of leaders, politicians, scientists
and business people are men. However, the proportion of male students attending UK
universities has been falling behind the other gender in recent years, which may trigger several
problems. According to (TG,2013), In 2010 11, there were more female (55%) than male full
time undergraduates (45%) enrolled at university a trend which shows no sign of shrinking. This
essay will discuss the causes and effects of the manifested issue and possible solutions to attract
more male undergraduates to universities.
The reasons leading to this situation including individual, family, school, and social factors.

Negative Influence Of Huck Finn
Mark Twain s Huck Finn
Huck Finn story can be a debatable when it comes to history, and what the story is about. Some
argue that Mark Twain s abuse of using the N word triggers racism especially that this book was
written when slavery became illegal. As one student said, It is estimated that the word nigger is used
392 times which reinforces a negative stereotype of African Americans represented by the use of
this derogatory word (Jackson). Some can still argue that this book can be a bad influence to the
youth as they might be using the N word as a racist rant. For some, it is very disturbing, upsetting,
and bringing back the past.

because he didn t want Huck to get hurt. For example, when Huck wanted to talk about the dead
man and wanted to know how he was killed, but Jim didn t want him to know all that. It would
fetch bad luck; and besides, he said, he might come and ha nt us; he said a man that warn t buried

On Liberty Speech Analysis
This essay will explain Mill s view regarding freedom of expression and apply it to a modern
concern regarding hate speech. In On Liberty, Mill argues in favor of nearly unrestricted freedom
of expression in accordance with the harm principle because limiting the opinions of others hinders
the marketplace of ideas or clashing of views to allow for the truthto rise to the top through
refinement or exchanging false beliefs for truths. Mill explicitly states that silencing speech is an
evil that robs the human race, posterity as well as the existing generation.... It robs those who
disagree with these silenced opinions. Mill s view is utilitarian because minimizing speech is
socially advantageous because it allows people to learn from the choices, actions, and experiences
of others. Additionally, this view is utilitarian because limiting speech would lead to even worse
harm than simply tolerating hateful or harmful speech.
The main arguments that Mill presents in favor of his view in favor of almost complete freedom of
expression. First, allowing government censorship allows for the government to act with infallibility
to what is right or true. To refuse hearing opposing opinions because the government is sure the
belief to be false is to assume that their certainty is absolute certainty. Instead, allowing for near
unlimited freedom of expression allows for the consideration of thoughts. This allows us as
citizens to evaluate and critique other government and our own governments that have been
wrong in the past. By allowing for the presentation of contrary views, we as humans can be
aware of past mistakes and come to know the truth. For example, allowing for Galileo arguing
that the Earth revolves around the Sun allowed for correcting the false belief that the Earth is at
the center of the universe. While this allowance can lead to risky behaviors, prejudices or other
harms, Mill hold that regardless, it is worth these risks and challenges because this can lead to
finding truths or correcting truths. Second, Mill argues that allowing for falsehoods to be spoken,
even if wholly false, can have some kernels of truth that lead to truths for that issue or truths of
other issues. Suppressing speech can lead to

Taking a Look at Low Back Pain
Introduction
Low back pain is currently a major public health and economic problem particularly in developed
countries (Maniadakis and Gray 2000). It is estimated that 70 to 85% of UK citizens have
experienced back pain in their lives, either persistent or recurrent and that the annual healthcare cost
of back pain is approximately ВЈ1632 million (Andersson 1999). Of the 70 85% of patients with
low back pain, 4.4% suffer from sciatica, 3.1% male and 1.3% female (Heliövaara 1989). Evidence
suggests that occupations that involve physical and manual activities including materials handling
and lifting, have one of the highest rates of reported sciatica (Konstantinou et al. 2008). This essay
will explore the anatomy, aetiology, ergonomics and treatment of sciatica and the prevalence in
manual workers.
What is Sciatica?
Sciatica describes a set of symptoms rather than being a specific condition. It is defined as
unilateral localised pain with a sharp, shooting sensation originating in the lower back (Winters et
al. 2006) and descending down the lower limb affecting the buttocks, thigh, calf, ankle and foot
(Waddell 2004).
Sciatica can range from mild soreness to a sharp debilitating pain and so is classified as either
acute or chronic. Patients who suffer from acute sciatica experience a sharp, shooting pain that
radiates down the posterior compartment of the lower limb (Frymoyer 1991). The cause of the
pain is from the sciatic nerve being compressed or irritated (Koes et al.

What Is The Relationship Between Inequality And Inequality
Poverty, Modernity and inequality are amongst the most common words of the English language.
According to dictionary.com, poverty means the condition of being poor , modernity means the
state of being modern and inequality means lack of equality. These three words are interrelated.
Modernity (being modern) is something which only the rich can afford. The poor rarely get a
chance of being modernized due to a lack of money and other facilities. Since the poor are not
modern enough they are subjected to inequality in everyday tasks. This paper will discuss how the
poor are treated and the relationship between the words modernity, inequality and poverty.

Our daily needs are actually their luxuries. The poems also show that treating the poor badly is
considered normal. The poor people themselves have accepted the way they are treated and do
nothing to fight against it. If the poor people take a stand and fight for their rights they can
actually overthrow their masters and live better lives. This point is especially focused in Faiz s
poem Kutte . (Faiz ahmed faiz, 1943)
The poem The nobodys by Edvardo Galeano tells us that the poor never get lucky. Their dreams
never come true no matter how hard they pray or wish for it. The poet also tells us that along
with all other things the life of the poor is also considered as worthless. The poet says that The
nobodies, the ones who are worth less than the bullet that kills them. Which shows that even if they
are dead it is not considered as something big because their life has no worth since they are not rich
enough. (Edvaardo

Development of NVWSI for drought monitoring The development of NVWSI was based on the
assumption that when there is sufficient vegetation water supply in the soil, there is a normal
growth of vegetation. In other words, normal vegetation growth is affected when soil water
deficit has happened during a drought period. In case of drought, NDVI value (observed by the
satellite sensor) is reduced as vegetation partially closes leaf stomata to reduce leaf surface
transpiration in order to save water in the canopy (Placeholder4). During this self protective
mechanism the leaf and canopy temperatures (LST) increase. In this modality, the ratio of
vegetation index and canopy temperature can show the state of water supply for vegetation,
with the greater ratio implying sufficient water supply and vice versa and this approach is
widely applied in drought monitoring (Sheng et al. 2003; Zhang et al, 2006; Huang et al. 2008;
Gao 2008; Bao 2012). Usually, the simple ratio of the two variables (NDVI and LST) can be
defined as VWSI using Equation (1).

Being A Non Traditional Student
Being a non traditional student I have the opportunity to attend school while also pursuing a career
in Information Technology (IT). Within the field of IT there are many avenues to explore ethics
depending on the type of business that is being supported, or what the technical speciality may be.
For instance, if the business operates in medical environment that treats patients, there are privacy
concerns, and ethical standards that must be followed. The same can be said for the financial
community, and education. While the breadth of Information Technology and the available
specializations are vast, perhaps even more impressive is the amount of trust and ethical burden
placed on the Information Technology professional.
There are many careers and professional roles that have access to a staggering level data that is
private in nature, or sensitive. This data is necessary to perform to function of the profession, but
the expectation and trust is that it will not be disclosed without individual consent. While each
profession has data access concerns, with major ethical implications, the majority of this data can
be guarded and monitored by technological means and enforced with legal policy. As an
information technologist it is often within your purview to employ these protections, and also to
monitor that these safeguards are effective, and not being violated. There are two avenues that I
believe can be approached when it comes to ethics in IT: unauthorized disclosure, and

Black Sacred Cosmos Research Paper
The Black Sacred Cosmos was developed through the conjoining of the African traditional past
with Western Christianity. It explains the influence of the Middle Passage, and the efforts of
enslavers to force assimilation of the Africans to Western religious beliefs and cultural practices.
Traditional African religions encompassed all portions of life; believers found something sacred
in their daily experiences. Modern day black religions encompass life as well, but there are certain
days like Sunday, or Saturday in the Adventist church, where we may dedicate more time to God.
Traditional religions were tied to family lines, from birth to death. The religionthat one s maternal
or paternal family practiced, was passed down from generation to generation; there was no
acceptance of faith like Christianity. There was a strong sense of community, where the gods and

the religions they practiced, due to there being more slaves than enslavers. This allowed them to
choose to practice their own religion or convert to Catholicism. In North America, there were more
enslavers than the enslaved, so African traditional practices were scarce. Until the African were

Medication Administration Errors Essay
In today s current fast paced and demanding field of heath care, medication administration has
become complex and time consuming task. Approximately one third of the nurses time is used in
medication administration. There is much potential for error because of the complexity of the
medication administration process. Since nurses are the last ones to actually administer the
medication to the patient therefore they become responsible for medication administration errors
(MAE). Reasons for MAE may include individual factors, organizational factors or system factors.

Those nurses may not have acquired the skills necessary to anticipate the needs of the team
members. Moreover, they may not have learned how to cooperate, communicate, and integrate
care. And, they fail to evaluate and adjust to their actions and are not able to give and receive
feedback. They do not apply their knowledge and critical thinking to understand the current
situation and how to act upon it. Some of the other factors that also contribute are lack of
awareness of errors, lack of willingness to report errors, faulty memory, poor communication
skills, or lack of patient knowledge, patient diagnosis and the names, purposes, and correct
administration of the medication (Carlton Blegen, 2006). In the case scenario, the nurse did not
apply her knowledge to check the correct adult dosage of methadone. Methadone is a narcotic pain

Love Revealed In The Two Lovers By Marie De France
The Two Lovers by Marie de France is about a father and a daughter and the many issues that
they have. For one, the King believed that his daughter could not marry just anyone. He comes
up with a plan where the one who wants to marry his beautiful daughter would have to carry her
up a very high mountain. Right away, we begin to see the problem with this idea. Every man who
tried to accomplish the task did not succeed. I feel like most of the men that volunteered to do this
were just doing it to prove that they were the greatest and strongest. This is where I believe that the
King was trying to force lovethat didn t exist. The King s daughter also had a lot of love for her
father. We see this when she finally meets a man who loves her truly.

The odds were not in her favor because many men had tried and no one had succeeded. If the
father had let her chose her marriage partner (in a normal way), maybe no one would ve had to
die. Maybe the princess believed that she had finally found the right man because of his idea to
elope, making her think that this man would do anything for her. Perhaps she was looking for a
lot of things in a man and got carried away too. I believe that if the princess had been given the
option to decide this poem would ve had a completely different ending. Of course, she would ve
still had her father s approval in mind, but at least she could ve had a say in her love life. Maybe
seeing the man die was the last straw from a lot of distress. I think Marie de France was trying to
show how such a controlled life could end up. Nothing good came from having everything set out
for her. This is what her father had been doing. He was so attached to her that she didn t have a
say in her own

Graycloud By John Nola Analysis
Like Nola, Ruth Graycloud, was exploited and subjugated by her white husband, John Tate. Ruth
was Moses Graycloud s twin sister. Like Nola, Ruth was an Osage woman who became a victim
of one of the white men who married Native American women to get access to Osage oil wealth.
Despite marrying a Native American woman, Tate had no respect to Native Americans. As Yanka
Kroumova Krasteva contends, Tate constantly takes pictures of the Indians, as if they were
archaeological finds. And this is the way he treats his Indian wife (55). Tate was a photographer;
he used to appear at all significant events in the Indian territory standing behind the three legged
stand that held his camera, his head covered with black cloth, his own good eye seeing
everything through glass lenses (Hogan, Mean Spirit 58). He used to photograph Native
Americans and send their pictures to magazines. Tate first used Ruth as a model then as source
of income . (Hogan, Mean Spirit 179). He humiliated and abused her; he did not love her, disliked
to be seen with her. They seldom went anywhere together, but when they did, he never walked at
her side (Hogan, Mean Spirit 134). At the end of Mean Spirit Tate killed Ruth. As a result, Moses
shot him dead.
In fact, Hogan highlights the oppression inflicted upon women. Meanwhile, she pinpoints the
previously discussed ecofeminist principle that women s liberation is inseparable from the struggle
against the oppression and abuse of

Book Of Mormon Analysis
The foundation of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints began with just one sacred
text. Being Christian, Mormons believe in the Old and New Testament used by all Christians,
but they believe in the existence of a third lost book of the Bible known as the Book of Mormon.
In 1823, an angel named Moroni appeared to a then seventeen year old Joseph Smith and told
him about a set of golden plates on which there was a lost book of the bible. However, it was not
until 1827 that Joseph was found worthy to retrieve the plates for translation . The plates were
written in a text referred to as reformed Egyptian , and Mormons believe that God himself showed
Joseph what the text meant. With the help of several scribes, the first edition of... Show more

Those in New York that had converted to the Mormon church began to face persecution, so
Joseph Smith led his followers westward in 1830, stopping in Kirtland, Ohio . Some of the
Mormons stayed to settle down in Kirtland, while others continued on with Joseph Smith to
Jackson County, Missouri, where a second Mormon settlement was established . The two
settlements were peaceful from 1831 to 1838 , but soon the Mormons were driven out and forced
to continue their search for a home . In the year 1839, the Mormons purchased a swampy plot of
land in Illinois, and by the year 1844 had created the beautiful settlement of Nauvoo . However,
Nauvoo was not meant to be the final settlement of the Mormons, for in 1844, the Prophet and
founder of the Church, Joseph Smith, was shot while preaching in Missouri . Fearing more
persecution, and following the new leadership of Brigham Young, the Mormons continued their
journey west, and after the perilous task of crossing the Rocky Mountains, they finally settled
down in Salt Lake City, Utah in the year 1847 . Even today, this remains as the center of the

  • 5. Ed Fletcher s Response To The Message Ed Fletcher was one of the creators of the song The Message by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, which was released in 1982. This song depicted a horrible scene of blacks living in the ghettos, which was relevant socially because of the issue of racism that was being addressed, and had been an issue for a long time. Although the book didn t mention much about his personal life, as a black man it is obvious why he would want to create a song that addresses racism towards blacks. The Message takes the approach of describing the awful treatment that people living in the ghettos were receiving, which was particularly relevant to the artists who created the song, like Ed Fletcher as I just mentioned, because they were all blacks who had likely experienced this situation. The lyrics used in the song, such as Got no money to move out, I guess I got no choice, Rats in the front room, roaches in the back, Junkies in the alley with a baseball bat aid in connecting with the listener s sympathy for those who experience this, in... They lyrics are very straightforward, depicting a story through words such as, Got in a little hometown jam, so they put a rifle in my hand; Sent me off to a foreign land to go and kill the yellow man (Google). What s particularly ironic about this is that a lot of people thought that the song was very patriotic, even though it s lyrics clearly state the opposite. One reason the book suggested this might have been so was because people might not have even been listening to the lyrics, hence weakening the impact of his message. One reason why Springsteen might have created this song was because although he didn t have this experience himself, a lot of people his age had come home from the war not long before and received this rough ... • 6. Community Service By Robert Coles Politically, socially, environmentally or one person at a time, how will you give back to society? Day in and day out many citizens change the world, or they do just the opposite and make the world a worse place than when they woke up. The article I chose to review is, Community Service written by Robert Coles. The article tells a story of college students who make a difference in the worldthrough peer tutoring, an act of community service, and have such an impact that they act as role models for Coles and he begins to do the same. Briefly in the beginning of the article, Coles states that, students are likely to express their lofty political and social impulses and practical desires to change the world through community service, even if in limited or modest ways. (Robert Coles, pg.93) We must make an ultimate decision about the world we live in, will we choose to make a difference in the lives of fellow citizens or discriminate and punish not only them but ourselves by not sharing the knowledge we have been taught. Within the article, Robert Coles shares experiences and quotes from a college junior who once told him, I want to help kids I know. (Robert Coles, pg.94) Cole believed he seemed both voluble and impassioned. As the college junior tutors in the ghetto, he teaches the children that there is a better life outside of the world they are currently living in, provided they study hard and receive a good education. The junior has a remarkable sense on what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Just a short drive around town it is evident that flu shots are encouraged everywhere one looks. From medical personnel to store checkouts one finds themselve bombarded with the question, Have you gotten your flu shot yet? Anyone and everyone is a candidate for the flu vaccine according to local pharmacies. (and many people are buying into this mantra). Millions of Americans will receive the flu vaccination without a doctor s note or regard to any underlying conditions. The only question asked is, Can you roll up your sleeve for me? Many blindly receive the flu vaccine without question and assume that it is effective without factual knowledge. In the healthcare system it is a requirement to get vaccinated, unless one wishes to be sectioned off and forced to wear a mask during work. Mandatory vaccinations have been enacted among some employers pushing employees to receive the vaccination. This is despite their views, concerns, or questions in regards to the safety and effectiveness of the flu vaccination. Pathos In Rigoberta Menchu I, Rigoberta MenchГє, is the personal narrative of a Guatemalan QuichГ© indigenous woman and her experiences as part of a culture and people severely discriminated against. MenchГє speaks of life for a vast majority of the indigenous population in Guatemala. She describes a life of extreme poverty plagued by violence, starvation, and socio economic inequality. Her people have been systematically oppressed since the Spanish conquest of Guatemalaand have been forced into a subservient position to an elite minority who controls the means of production. These elitists are a portion of a larger group that MenchГє refers to as ladinos. A ladino is any Guatemalan who rejects his or her indigenous heritage and who views himself or herself as superior to the Maya people. The death of MenchГє s family prompts her to speak on behalf of all indigenous people and dedicate her life to overthrowing the relation of domination and exclusion that characterizes Guatemalan society. In order to accomplish this, MenchГє acts pragmatically and adopts techniques from ladino culture, such as the Spanish language and Christianity, to more effectively protect her own culture. MenchГє uses pathos, appealing to her readers empathy, to gain their support for her human rights efforts by demonizing ladino culture through horrific examples of violence and the idea that she can only resist racial discrimination by assimilating to the culture perpetuating it. The Importance of Biological Factors in the Development of Gender Identity The biosocial theory suggests that gender identity develops as a result of the obvious biological differences between boys and girls and the hormonal differences between the sexes which can be observed in the foetus from about six weeks (Durkin, 1995). Supporting evidence has been found through animal studies, such as that by Young, Goy and Phoenix (1964) who gave testosterone to pregnant monkeys and found that any female offspring were prone to be unusually aggressive. Evidence is also found in case studies of humans. Imperato McGinley et al. (1974) studied a family in the Dominican Republic in which four children were born ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This demonstrates the part played by both hormonal and psychological factors, working against genetic factors , in the development of gender identity. The sociobiological theory argues that males and females look and behave differently because they are driven to behave in ways that maximise their chances to reproduce and pass on their genes. As females produce a limited supply of eggs at some physical cost they must ensure that each reproduction is as successful as possible by selecting a mate with good genes who can provide for them and their offspring. In contrast, males produce large amounts of sperm at almost no physical cost and therefore maximise their chances of passing on their genes through promiscuity. The sexy sons hypothesis argues that females select males who posses characteristics which they would like their sons to inherit, in order that the sons are selected as mates by other females, continuing the genetic line. The handicapping theory suggests that females seek males with robust genes, demonstrated by the males ability to sustain characteristics that incur a physiological cost, such as a peacock s elaborate tail. Research evidence in support of the sociobiological theory includes Davis (1990) findings that men advertising for a mate emphasise their wealth and other resources and women focus on their own physical attractiveness. The painting brought Wood almost instant fame after being exhibited for the first time at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1930. It is probably the most reproduced and parodied works of art, and has become a staple within American pop culture. The portrait of what appears to be a couple, standing solemnly in front of their mid western home seems to be a simplistic representation of rural America. As simple as it sounds, when looking deeper into this image, it reveals something much more complex. Repetition can also be seen in the dotted pattern of the woman s outfit, which also appears in the material of the curtain that hangs in the house s window. The echo of verticals in this painting is also strong. The faces and bodies of the figures seem to be stretched, and narrowed. The pitchfork s slender prongs and the green stripes on the man s shirt also add to the elongation of their frame. The copious amounts of vertical wood boards that make up the house and the barn, keep the viewer s eye moving up and down the picture plane. Wood s use of verticality in this painting is overwhelming. There is also a striking luminosity to the painting. The man and the woman s faces appear to slightly glow, as if you can really see the reflection of the sun beaming off of their skin. This was achieved by a complex method of applying glazes. Wood would apply a layer of oil paint, allow it to dry, and then varnish it. This tedious process would be repeated numerous times. It was a process perfected by the 16th century Venetian painter, Titian. The series of glazes seems to have created an overwhelming sense of depth and radiance within the paint. The Battle Between Christianity And Islam Towards the end of the eleventh century in Western Europe and Eurasia, a range of social, economical and religious influences collectively influenced the sequence of religious wars which we know as the Crusades. Although the series of holy wars against Islam is typically portrayed as the fault of overzealous popes and belligerent kings; the truth behind the clash between Christianity and Islam is far more elaborate. The direct repercussions following two centuries of prolonged warfare afflicted Christendom with the loss of several millions of lives and immense financial expenditure. On the contrary, the Crusadesstimulated the fundamental expansion and the ultimate downfalls of nations in both the Western and Eastern fields. Contrary to popular belief, the Crusades (1095 A.D 1291 A.D) were defensive wars in response to Islamic expansion following Prophet Mohammed s death in the 7th century. It is all too commonly assumed that the Crusades were the vanguard of the Church s self righteousness and prejudice that warped the enlightened Oriental culture with Western antagonism. Although elements of these assumptions are true to some extent; the Crusaders ultimate objective was to defend against the very Muslims who initially prompted their response by conquering Christian lands in the name of Allah. Delegation Can Be A Slippery Slope For Any Manager Delegation can be a very slippery slope for any manager, but it has become a necessary component of many organizational management structures. While it can be an extremely effective management strategy, many times it is approached incorrectly and thus falls short of expected results. This is the case we see presented in the case studyfor this assignment. It seems that our manager/delegator, Ms. Wilson, is looking to remove some items from her current workload in order to facilitate more time to devote to her expanding supervisory duties that are not able to be delegated. To her credit, she did take the time to establish a list of tasks contained within her daily activities and reduce them to items that were able to be delegated. This is a crucial and key step, as discussed within our text. While we don t know the extent of the items that may have been included on this list, Ms. Wilson did narrow the initial delegation to a single task: gathering the data and generating a monthly statistical report. It s at this point that I feel things went a bit astray in the delegation process that eventually would lead to the failure of the process. First, just as important and organizing and stratifying a list of tasks for delegation, is the process of organizing and stratifying a list of potential candidates to perform those tasks. While we know in our case study that Ms. Wilson chose George Peters for the task, we don t have any indication that she performed her due ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Biblical Eras Of Creation, The Patriarchs, And The Ketuvim Referred to as Tanak by Jews, the Hebrew Bible contains twenty four books characterized by three categories: The Torah, the Nevi im, and the Ketuvim, which outline the history and beliefs of the Jewish faith. The Torah, commonly known as the Law of Moses, contains the books of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. These five narrative books cover the Biblical eras of creation, the patriarchs, and the exodus. In Genesis 1, God created everything from nothing at His will in six days and proclaimed all of it good. Humankind was created, Adam and Eve, in God s image, and they lived in the pure garden of Eden. Sin is introduced to the world when a serpent convinces Eve, who subsequently convinces Adam, to eat from the the tree of good and evil, which God strictly forbade. God judged their sin, bans them from Eden, they went out in the world, and birthed sons Cain and Abel. After Cain killed Abel out of jealousy, God again judged sin by cursing Cain, but exemplified forgiveness in Genesis 6 through his promise to curse whoever tried to hurt him. Generations later, descendant of Adam, Noah, is introduced, as well as his wife Naamah and their sons Shem, Ham, and Japheth. In Genesis 6, God decided to start over, but saved Noah, his family, and animals, by telling Noah to build an ark to endure the great flood. • 27. Paradox Of Grief One of the themes that that we covered in lecture is grief, including the different types of grief that people experience, and the ways in which people learn to deal with grief. In life, we will all experience the death of someone close to us at one point in our lives. Because their death may be very hard on us, grieving will help us get through our daily lives and help us heal from this pain. Everyone responds to a loss in their lives in different ways, depending on the type of person he/she is and the cause of deathof their loved one. When we experience a difficult loss in our lives, we respond by grieving and learning to accept this loss. According to Kastenbaum, there are many types of grief, including: normal and complicated grief, anticipatory grief, resolved and unresolved grief, and hidden and disenfranchised grief. Specifically, Kastenbaum explains how grief should be resolved within a reasonable period of time, but at the same time, the loss of a crucial relationship is never completely resolved: we move on with our lives, but we will never be the same again (Kastenbaum, 350). This reminds me of Susan Patron s the Higher Power of Lucky. In this book, Lucky, a 10 year old girl, has to live her life with her mother s death and an absent father who calls... Why There Are More Than Students WHY THERE ARE MORE FEMALE STUDENTS IN UNIVERSITY University is a place providing people with higher education and training, where they can gain not only academic but also social knowledge. Historically, men have always been considered superior to women for their strength and intelligence. Typical stereotypes are that while the males are more rational, decisive and stronger; the females are more fragile and delicate. To demonstrate the long held belief, it can be seen that the majority of leaders, politicians, scientists and business people are men. However, the proportion of male students attending UK universities has been falling behind the other gender in recent years, which may trigger several problems. According to (TG,2013), In 2010 11, there were more female (55%) than male full time undergraduates (45%) enrolled at university a trend which shows no sign of shrinking. This essay will discuss the causes and effects of the manifested issue and possible solutions to attract more male undergraduates to universities. Some argue that Mark Twain s abuse of using the N word triggers racism especially that this book was written when slavery became illegal. As one student said, It is estimated that the word nigger is used 392 times which reinforces a negative stereotype of African Americans represented by the use of this derogatory word (Jackson). Some can still argue that this book can be a bad influence to the youth as they might be using the N word as a racist rant. For some, it is very disturbing, upsetting, and bringing back the past. • 30. On Liberty Speech Analysis This essay will explain Mill s view regarding freedom of expression and apply it to a modern concern regarding hate speech. In On Liberty, Mill argues in favor of nearly unrestricted freedom of expression in accordance with the harm principle because limiting the opinions of others hinders the marketplace of ideas or clashing of views to allow for the truthto rise to the top through refinement or exchanging false beliefs for truths. Mill explicitly states that silencing speech is an evil that robs the human race, posterity as well as the existing generation.... It robs those who disagree with these silenced opinions. Mill s view is utilitarian because minimizing speech is socially advantageous because it allows people to learn from the choices, actions, and experiences of others. Additionally, this view is utilitarian because limiting speech would lead to even worse harm than simply tolerating hateful or harmful speech. The main arguments that Mill presents in favor of his view in favor of almost complete freedom of expression. First, allowing government censorship allows for the government to act with infallibility to what is right or true. To refuse hearing opposing opinions because the government is sure the belief to be false is to assume that their certainty is absolute certainty. Instead, allowing for near unlimited freedom of expression allows for the consideration of thoughts. This allows us as citizens to evaluate and critique other government and our own governments that have been wrong in the past. By allowing for the presentation of contrary views, we as humans can be aware of past mistakes and come to know the truth. For example, allowing for Galileo arguing that the Earth revolves around the Sun allowed for correcting the false belief that the Earth is at the center of the universe. While this allowance can lead to risky behaviors, prejudices or other harms, Mill hold that regardless, it is worth these risks and challenges because this can lead to finding truths or correcting truths. Second, Mill argues that allowing for falsehoods to be spoken, even if wholly false, can have some kernels of truth that lead to truths for that issue or truths of other issues. Suppressing speech can lead to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Taking a Look at Low Back Pain Introduction Low back pain is currently a major public health and economic problem particularly in developed countries (Maniadakis and Gray 2000). It is estimated that 70 to 85% of UK citizens have experienced back pain in their lives, either persistent or recurrent and that the annual healthcare cost of back pain is approximately ВЈ1632 million (Andersson 1999). Of the 70 85% of patients with low back pain, 4.4% suffer from sciatica, 3.1% male and 1.3% female (HeliГ¶vaara 1989). Evidence suggests that occupations that involve physical and manual activities including materials handling and lifting, have one of the highest rates of reported sciatica (Konstantinou et al. 2008). This essay will explore the anatomy, aetiology, ergonomics and treatment of sciatica and the prevalence in manual workers. What is Sciatica? Sciatica describes a set of symptoms rather than being a specific condition. It is defined as unilateral localised pain with a sharp, shooting sensation originating in the lower back (Winters et al. 2006) and descending down the lower limb affecting the buttocks, thigh, calf, ankle and foot (Waddell 2004). Sciatica can range from mild soreness to a sharp debilitating pain and so is classified as either acute or chronic. Patients who suffer from acute sciatica experience a sharp, shooting pain that radiates down the posterior compartment of the lower limb (Frymoyer 1991). The cause of the pain is from the sciatic nerve being compressed or irritated (Koes et al. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(Faiz ahmed faiz, 1943) The poem The nobodys by Edvardo Galeano tells us that the poor never get lucky. Their dreams never come true no matter how hard they pray or wish for it. The poet also tells us that along with all other things the life of the poor is also considered as worthless. Development of NVWSI for drought monitoring The development of NVWSI was based on the assumption that when there is sufficient vegetation water supply in the soil, there is a normal growth of vegetation. In other words, normal vegetation growth is affected when soil water deficit has happened during a drought period. In case of drought, NDVI value (observed by the satellite sensor) is reduced as vegetation partially closes leaf stomata to reduce leaf surface transpiration in order to save water in the canopy (Placeholder4). During this self protective mechanism the leaf and canopy temperatures (LST) increase. In this modality, the ratio of vegetation index and canopy temperature can show the state of water supply for vegetation, with the greater ratio implying sufficient water supply and vice versa and this approach is widely applied in drought monitoring (Sheng et al. 2003; Zhang et al, 2006; Huang et al. 2008; Gao 2008; Bao 2012). For instance, if the business operates in medical environment that treats patients, there are privacy concerns, and ethical standards that must be followed. The same can be said for the financial community, and education. Despite marrying a Native American woman, Tate had no respect to Native Americans.
