Analysis Of Mrs. Dalloway By Virginia Woolf
Beautiful, complex, incisive.... One of the most moving, revolutionary artworks of the twentieth
century (Michael Cunningham) Mrs. Dalloway, by Virginia Woolf is not only a book that entertains
millions, like Stephanie Meyer s Twilight, J.K. Rowling s Harry Potter and the Philosopher s Stone, or
E. L. James s Fifty Shades of Grey, but it is a work of literature that revolutionized the art of writing,
which continues to influence people s philosophies, beliefs, and views on life even roughly after a
century since its publication. In fact, music, fashion, food, films, books, clothes, and paintings are a
few aspects of art all impacted immensely by Mrs. Dalloway, a story highlighting a mere day in a
woman s life as she prepares for a party. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In other words, the meadow denotes Septimus s joy prior to the war and the beautiful and honorable
decision he took to fight for his country, meanwhile the dull sky exemplifies his unstable and muddled
mind after enduring the traumatic events of combat. Not to mention, the large, red spot also
symbolizes the hopeless feeling and blazing fire Septimus now feels and sees when he views his life.
All in all, Champagne displays the same feelings Septimus felt with society today.
Disturbia, a pop song sung by Rhianna, connects the idea of chaos and paranoia in the novel with
contemporary art and postmodern society. For example, the lyrics What s wrong with me? Why do I
feel like this? I m going crazy now... demonstrate the feeling and thoughts of confusion, paranoia, and
stress a person in today s society with PTSD undergoes, exactly like the symptoms Septimus is
displaying daily: Suffering forever...he moaned, putting from him with a wave of his hand that
external suffering, that external loneliness (25). Additionally, the lyrics, It s a thief in the night. To
come and grab you. It can creep up inside you. And consume you. A disease of the mind. It can control
you. Watch out, you might just go under. Your train of thought will be altered is emphasizing how
PTSD, is taking away your ability to live a normal life and how it overtakes

Drugs and the Music Industry

Drugs and the Music Industry Throughout the years, drugs and music have been as synonymous as
America and baseball. Especially within the past 50 years, this nation has experienced the birth, and
death, of many genres of music due to rampant drug use. Sure, we all know that drugs are bad for you
and that if you abuse them, they will eventually lead to your death, but these substances have created
music that has inspired millions around the world, and who is to say that is a bad thing? We have all
benefited in one way or another from a musicians use of mind altering chemicals or in some cases,
plants, and this is an undeniable fact. Drugs have had an overall positive impact on the ... Show more

The use of drugs in the music scene was at its most extreme during the Hardcore Punk movement of
the 1980 s. This scene was entirely different from any that was experienced before. Drug use also held
initial significance in the movement; the inherent connection between recreational drug use and the
production of rock music applied to the Hardcore movement just as it appeared in the music of the 60
s. (Cashbaugh) The punks took any drug that was available to them that was cheap and hit fast and
hard. Inevitably, their drug of choice became speed because, It was cheap, it was around, and you
could play fast music on it. It also curtailed your appetite. In San Francisco, the Negative Trend guys
literally lived on potatoes. (Marzuk) This revolutionary drug let musicians play for days upon end
with no sleep and little need for basic necessities. It may have taken a toll on their bodies, however the
pure, raw energy it created was something never seen before. Drug use, however, does not increase
your creativity. There is no scientific evidence that shows a direct correlation between drug and
alcohol use and the creative parts of your brains. To the contrary, studies have shown that I actually
limits the amount your brain functions. (summary, Cengage) However, the mainstream media portrays
such a direct link between the two that when people take drugs, they convince themselves that they
have these effects. The drugs almost act as a placebo for a

The Controversy Of Embryonic Stem Cells
For decades, researchers use of stem cells has caused a controversy and the consideration of the ethics
of research involving the development, usage, and destruction of human embryos. Most commonly,
this controversy focuses on embryonic stem cells. Not all stem cell research involves the creation,
usage and destruction of human embryos. For example, adult stem cells, amniotic stem cells and
induced pluripotent stem cells do not involve creating, using or destroying human embryos and thus
are minimally, if at all, controversial. Many less controversial sources of acquiring stem cells include
using cells from the umbilical cord, breast milk, and bone marrow. (Brunt, 2012) In 1998, scientists
discovered how to extract stem cells from human embryos. This discovery led to moral ethics
questions concerning research involving embryo cells, such as what restrictions should be made on
studies using these types of cells? At what point does one consider life to begin? Is it just to destroy an
embryo cell if it has the potential to cure countless numbers of patients? Political leaders are debating
how to regulate and fund research studies that involve the techniques used to remove the embryo cells.
No clear consensus has emerged. Other recent discoveries may extinguish the need for embryonic
stem cells. With this in mind, we will discover both sides of the issue from a pros and cons point of
view. Stem cell research has expanded at an exponential rate, but its therapeutic

Cultural Imperialism In The British East India Company
India s production of tea has increased from 10.8% to 90.13% since the British East India Company
started production in Calcutta, India over 35 years ago. According to India Tea News , the British East
India Company dramatically increased the production of tea in India in response to Qing China s
monopoly in the tea industry. During the 19th century, the British East India Company was focused on
controlling India, political and military gains in India, and trade of spices and opium (Mohan). While
the British East India Company was colonizing India and reaping the rewards, the British colonists
were introduced to different aspects of tea and cooking styles from native Indians and Qing China
(Liu). Soon after, the British colonists adopted the ideals/practices of trading/brewing tea from Qing
China. Since the British were introduced to different types of tea, the demand had increased and thus
prompted the British East India Company to intervene (Mohan). This paper argues that Qing China
struck fear in the British East India Company which forced the company to use cultural imperialism
throughout India and Europe during the 1840s 1890s. In order to achieve their goals, the British East
India Company conducted the tea trade as a private entity working on behalf of the British Empire.
Compared to the British East India Company, the Chinese state had total control of the tea industry
within Qing China. The British East India Company had several differences and several

The Historical Accuracy of Henry V by William Shakespeare...
The Historical Accuracy of Henry V
Henry V, written by William Shakespeare, is by far one of his more historically accurate plays. This
play is the life of young King Henry V, who ascended to the throne after his father, Henry IV s death.
These times were much different for England, as Henry V was a noble lord whom everyone loved,
whereas angry factions haunted his father s reign. Shakespeare portrays a fairly accurate account of
the historical Henry V, but certain parts are either inflated deflated, or conflated to dramatize Henry V
as a character suitable for a Renaissance audience.

Food In Korean Food
A few days ago, a friend invited me and a five other people over to her house, as her parents wanted to
cook us a home cooked meal. The dining table had a total of six chairs, including the host s. I noticed
that the spacing between the chairs were relatively of close distance, showing how Meals identify
social boundaries surrounding familiarity with people, and these are articulated around ideas of people
s intimacy and distance (Crowther 161). An elaborate plate of food was set out for each guest, as her
parents had cooked us steak with roasted potatoes, grilled asparagus, corn, a piece of bread, as well as
a dish of cream spaghetti. There was also sparkling water and regular water to drink along with the
meal. For all of the guests, this meal was especially enjoyable because we were all students dorming
in college, so we had not eaten a home cooked meal in a long time. This can be reconnected to the
topic of commensality, as The sharing of food reinforces ties, forges new memories, and allows people
to reflect on the importance of eating together (Crowther 151).
In Korean culture, it is respectable for the guests to help set the table with the necessary utensils, as it
also shows the parents that we are appreciative of the meal. Right as the plate of food was set on the
table, everyone began to take out their phones, waiting to capture pictures of the food. As all the
guests were females, it was interesting to see how social media is involved, even in the ordinary

Ethical Working Principles
From the knowledge we had in our Management 100 lectures and from the course materials, we were
able to employ many procedures and ethical working principles in order to make our group work more
efficient with great end results in a timely manner.
Firstly, we had a line and staff organizational structure which means that only one person from the
group, Peter, who maintains constant communication with the client, Ascentria, on emails. Peter
maintains absolute timeliness when it comes to communication, especially with external stakeholders
because of all the timing issues involved. And whatever is communicated with Ascentria would be

Controlling is about keeping everything on course while checking on the qualities of the work done ,
measuring performance and comparing it against standards , taking corrective actions on possible
issues (Ferrell, Hirt, Ferrell, 2016). This is very prominent in that we always had short meetings in the
library which acts as quality assurance meetings. These meetings were where we discuss the progress
of the project. We also check each other s works to see if they are aesthetically pleasing and abide to
Ascentria s design principles file which was sent to us. Additionally, we would discuss how we can
expedite the project if something is behind our set deadline. After the meeting, if anyone has questions
or concerns, we maintain constant communication in our Facebook group chat. Another example of
controlling in our workflow is in Peter s constant work with Ascentria to ensure that the posters look
pleasing and fit with Ascentria s needs. Throughout the project, Peter did five revisions of the original
posters with notes from Ascentria on how things should look and how the logo should be placed to not
violate their branding design principles. Through effective listening and hard work, Peter responded
with the revisions about three hours upon receiving the emails and always upload the posters into the
group chat first for everyone to approve. Each revision also came with possible variations for

Govinda is Siddhartha s childhood friend , and his loyal companion. Siddhartha and Govinda devote
their life on a quest for enlightenment and understanding. Govinda benefits from religious community
and doctrine and seeks instruction from individuals who have achieved enlightenment. He relies on
others to help him determine when he is on the right path. Ultimately Govinda attain enlightenment,
showing us that enlightenment has different paths. The similarities between the two characters

Domestic Violence In Sports Essay
The issue I choose deals with professional athletes and the criminal justice system. Over the years
around the sport world there has been many cases of top professional athletes that have committed or
accused of crimes. Over half of results of those crimes sadly ended their career. My favorite football
player, former Dallas Cowboy star running back Ezekiel Elliott was accused of domestic violence
which almost stopped him from playing his rookie season. All over the league it seems that
professional athletes are more and more accused of domestic violence, but almost half of the cases the
victim wasn t convinced and were proven innocent. That s not the worse part even though the victims
were proven innocent half of those cases resulted in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

health issues because those things can play a major role in an athletes

Trojans back. But Patroclus gets killed by Hector and Achilles, mad with grief, kills Hector and

Patients Cultural Beliefs
Your post is very thorough! I enjoyed reading your example of specific diets in relation to culture, and
I would like to share how we incorporate patients cultural beliefs in my hospital . On my unit, we
complete a database for every patient admitted. The database covers everything from current living
conditions, assistance received or needed, advance directives, willing to receive blood products,
belongings at the bedside, and cultural beliefs. We ask all our patients if they have any special diet
restrictions, whether personal or medical choices. We also ask the patient if there are any cultural or
spiritual beliefs that would impact their healthcare. We offer communion, prayer, and anointment

This represent patient empowerment because most of our patients are in a vulnerable and sensitive
state, therefore, addressing their cultural beliefs and giving them the options to incorporate their
beliefs within their healthcare allows providers to support their decisions to do so. This gesture also
shows the patient that we understand the importance of their values. Completing this database with
our patients establishes a supportive environment. The success of the care plan depends on the
attention paid in the service setting to patient culture, skills, convenience, information, costs, and
implementation of the care decision (Paget et al., 2012, p.3). I believe we do a good job of establishing
the supportive environment and incorporating our patient s cultural beliefs during their admission, and

Dream On by Steven Tyler Essay
What are dreams? Some would say they are imaginations and fantasies, whereas others would claim
dreams to be their aspirations, desires, and hopes, something they want to achieve someday.
Aerosmith uses the latter group s meaning of dreams in their song Dream On . The song exposes how
one spends their whole life reaching the goals and wants that may never be all fulfilled, but continues
to dream and hope, corresponding with the difficulties the band itself faced during the start of their
career and how they kept trying to get to the top. Dream On , written by Steven Tyler, was released in
1973 as a part their first album Aerosmith. Steven Tyler wrote the song by accident while playing on
the piano, and finished the lyrics over the years ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tyler admits how each of the songs he has written have something to do with his emotions at that
time. Likewise, Dream On must correlate with the feelings and impressions Tyler was going through
at the time he wrote the song. Therefore, he has added some sentimental message to this song.
Being the son of a classical musician, music was always a big part of Tyler s life and dreams. He got
the harmony of Dream On from one of the songs his dad played to him on the piano. This is why Tyler
always plays the piano on this song ( A classic? Dream on ). Becoming a musician has always been
Steven Tyler s ambition. Looking up to his own father, he has lived among music since he was a kid.
The lyrics from Dream On , half my life s in book s written pages refer to this idea ( Aerosmith Dream
On ). Most of his life has been spent on writing down music and lyrics based on his aspirations and his
own life s experiences. Similarly, when he wrote his song Dream On , he must have been writing
about his own goals and dreams to be a well known singer.
The song was written before Aerosmith became popular and famous. Since they were starting out as a
new band, Aerosmith had to put up with many things. The critics and press berated their music and it
was a hard for the band to reach celebrity recognition ( A classic? Dream on ). However, as Steven
Tyler acknowledges, they had

Habits of the Mind
Habits of Mind The habits of mind might better be termed the habits of a perfected mind since most
have not acquired all of these habits. The two selected for this paper are persistence and precision.
Both are difficult to embed because they require disciple and mental toughness. This paper discusses
the connection between the two and how they can be defeated if a student is distracted from them.
Persistence and precision are habits of mind that require many of the same skills to acquire.
Persistence is defined as sticking to a task until it is completed (Costa Kallick, 2008). It is the ability
to fail and to continue pressing towards a goal despite continuous rejection of the effort. People who
have this trait are not afraid of the outcome of a single endeavor, but press on until they are successful.
Having precision of language and thought is striving to communicate accurately in both written and
oral form, taking care to use precise language; defining terms; and using correct names, labels and
analogies (Costa Kallick, 2008). This ability is fostered by a mind that wants to ensure that it is
communicating thoughts clearly so that they are not misunderstood. It is also a skill that takes a great
deal of determination and discipline to perfect. These two skills can be innate, in a very few people,
but by the majority they are acquired (Watts, 2012). Thinking clearly is the first step to
communicating clearly, and this leads to the ability to accomplish tasks. A

Worldcom Case Summary
I learned some new things from the case article that were not mentioned in Cynthia Cooper s book
titled Extraordinary Circumstances. However, the gist of it was the same. I will focus my paragraphs
based on the three questions.
What are the pressures that lead executives and managers to cook the books? There are several factors
that can come into play. For WorldCom, it started with the deterioration of the industry in 2000. This
was due to overcapacity, heightened competition, the economic recession, the dot com bubble
collapse, and a reduced demand for telecommunications services. All of these factors put extra
pressure on WorldCom s most important performance indicator, the expense to revenue ratio. The
company was so concerned about keeping it above 42% that they were willing to do anything, even
commit fraud. Bernie Ebbers told the senior staff that they would lose everything if the company did
not improve its performance.
This leads into my second pressure, which deals with personal lives. Employees were receiving
tremendous benefits due to the company s great performance. However, if the company did not
improve, people s salaries would be cut or even worse, their jobs would be cut. That is why so many
people were willing to engage in the fraud, because they felt WorldCom was supplying a salary and
benefits that other companies would not be able to match. Betty Vinson was a prime example. She
knew that releasing line accruals was wrong, but needed to

The Good news of Pageantry
Unless the skeptics have proper knowledge and understanding, they are unable to understand the
criteria for judging a pageant. There are so many reasons to enter a beauty pageant. Although the
stereotype is multitudes of girls with big hair, caked on makeup, and fake personalities; being a size 0,
or 2 that s not even close to reality! To tell the whole truth about pageants skeptics have to be open
minded and erase all of their prior knowledge of what the portray pageants to be. Yes pageants do
portray perfection, but that s not the half of it. Honestly girls don t have to be a size two or pretty or
have their makeup caked on, but they do have to have to love themselves and except who they are, and
have plenty self confidence. Self Confidence is the number one out of all of the reasons to enter a
beauty pageant. Miss Teen Arizona said You would never catch me talking in front of large crowds, or
being social at all..... until my mom entered me in my first pageant amongst 213 girls! Talk about life
changing! She walked away by being 4th runner up, and as in awe about how much self confidence
she had gained over that one weekend! If she can gain that much self confidence over one weekend
then just imagine how many young women could be inflicted for the good in just one weekend! Self
Confidence is hard for girls to obtain. People bring them down everyday, and it not okay. It s a well

product. The rearrangement of the sections in opposing places extracts new meaning to the text, an
outlook that could not be generated from a logical standpoint. A new found sense of surrealism is
discovered in something already familiar to us.
Surrealist artists of the era were advocating for an art of the unconscious mind. It is by my affirmation
that Brion Gysin s intention behind creating The Cut Up Method was to show language could be used
like a tool to extract new meaning, depending on an individual s subconscious.

Refugee Language Barriers
Immigrants and refugees seeking services seem to lack knowledge and understanding of American
culture. This may lead to legal issues and barriers that can ultimately impact their health and well
being. Language barriers are a huge problem among the immigrant and refugee community which
leads to laws being broken without immigrants and refugees realizing that they are breaking the law.
For example, in one s native country, bribing law enforcement may be acceptable, while in the United
States, it is an offense which will result in arrest. Immigrants and refugees need to be taught this in a
way that they can understand.
Language barriers and lack of knowledge regarding the United States medical system are also
problems among the immigrant and refugee population. Because of the language barrier, immigrants
and refugees may feel embarrassed or uncomfortable going to the doctor which causes long term
issues.
Document evidence of the problem, including data on the scope or level of the problem. You may use
public records of community level indicators and/or community surveys.
According to the 2015 2016 Guilford County Health Assessment, about 11% of North Carolina
residents speak a language other than English in their homes. In Guilford County specifically, 13.6%
of the population speaks another language at home. Spanish is the highest spoken language other than
English in the home in both North Carolina and Guilford County (7% and 6.3%, respectively).

The Importance Of Florida Lawn Pests
For many homeowners, South Florida is a paradise where mere lawns and yards can become luscious
landscapes. But families aren t the only ones to enjoy the tropical outdoors. Florida outdoor pests can
endanger the grounds around your home. Controlling Florida lawn pests are an important part of
South Florida life.
Among the common kinds of Florida outdoor pests are chinch bugs, which can cause major plant
damage. Whiteflies often attack and even kill ficus trees and hedges by feeding on the undersides of
leaves. They ve become a major part of Florida yard pests and can cause plant leaves to yellow or drop
off entirely, often covering the plant with flocculent, a white sticky material.
Pink hibiscus flowers may be lovely in your yard, but the

Essay On Field Experience
For my Field Experience I chose to observe at Krahn Elementary which is a part of Klein Independent
School District. After my approval, I was assigned to four teachers and their classrooms. I observed at
Krahn Elementary on six Tuesdays between 15 September 2015 and 27 October 2015, and more or
less followed the schedule that was given to me by the Assistant Principal Ms. Shannon Strole. From
8:30 am to 9:15 am I observed Ms. Judy Burkes, who is a third grade Math and Science teacher. Her
classroom is comprised of twenty students which range from average to below average learners and a
student with ADHD and another with autism. For most part of my observation, M. Burkes had been
working with her students on fractions and multiple digits addition and subtraction. From 9:15 am to
10:30 am I observed Ms. Lisa Parker who is a Math co teacher and resource teacher at Krahn
Elementary for grades K 5. During my assigned time, Ms. Parker usually joined Mr. Duru s fifth grade
class of twenty three students as a co teacher and when required would pull out a group of six students
after initial instructions from Mr. Duru and would teach them the concepts separately at a slower pace.
This particular group of students with special needs was mostly seen to be focusing more and more on
mathematical word problems. These students were students with Learning disabilities, behavioral
issues and one of them was a student with ADHD. From 10:30 am to 11:15, I was with Ms. Janice

The Rayleigh-Bénard Problem
Mechanics of Fluids and the
Rayleigh Bénard Problem 1 Introduction
The motion of fluids in certain systems continues to be a relevant to physicists. From the coiling of
dribbling fluids to the convection current of a slice of fluid heated from below, patterns forming in
natural systems are still unsolved. The best that can be done is to make models of the systems and use
approximations.
In this paper I will give an overview of the Rayleigh Bénard problem as well as describe the
derivation of a four mode lorenz model and a linear stability analysis of the hydrodynamic equations
to find the critical Rayleigh number responsible for predicting convection in a system.
2 Basic Fluid Dynamics
2.1 What is a fluid?
A fluid is a substance that will deform (flow) when a shear stress is applied. This is in contrast to a
solid, which will compress rather than continuously deform under such a stress. Fluids are a subset of
the phases of matter and include liquids (incompressible fluids), and gases (compressible fluids).
Shown in Figure 2.1.1 is of a slice of fluid between two plates undergoing a shear stress. The bottom
plate is stationary, while the top one is allowed to move. The fluid adjacent to the top plate will be
pulled along at about the same speed as the plate, but the layer of fluid below that resists the motion
just a bit and moves slower, same with the layer below that all the way to the layer next to the bottom
plate. Figure 2.1.1

The article was written in the form of study aimed to explore undergraduate health students
perceptions of their cultural competence as a part of the cross cultural experiential learning process.
The problem of the study raised from the increasing tendencies of cultural diversification of the total
population. This demographic shift required the development of culturally sensitive programs which
would address cultural awareness. The study was essential for community health students who work
with diverse groups in the U.S. Mexico border area and other regions in the United States.

Demand Of Oil Producing Countries
The very first international agency created to allow oil producing countries to achieve their economic
objectives was OPEC. The organization was modeled after the Texas Railroad Commission and
formed at the Baghdad Conference in 1960 by Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Venezuela . The
founding five counties were later joined by Qatar, Indonesia, Libya, the United Arab Emirates,
Algeria, and Nigeria . At the time of its creation most industrial countries were immensely dependent
on the oil imported from the region of the world represented by the OPEC members. Nonetheless, the
member countries had yet to devise a workable system for responding to serious disruptions in oil
supply before OPEC. OPEC s purpose was to serve as a sort of cartel. It would co ordinate and unify
petroleum policies among Member Countries, in order to secure fair and stable prices for petroleum
producers; an efficient, economic and regular supply of petroleum to consuming nations; and a fair
return on capital to those investing in the industry.
During the 1960s, OPEC was only modestly successful in influencing oil prices, which remained
relatively stable. OPEC member counties did not gain control of their own oil production decisions
until the 1970 s because oil companies had a large stock, and therefore a proportionately large say, in
many of the OPEC countries oil production businesses. During the period of 1969 1972, OPEC
countries began setting barrel prices without negotiation with the

Thorntons Strategy over the Years
Introduction A number of factors have contributed to the success and problems faced by Thorntons up
until 2003. Over the years, the company seems to have lost focus on its original strategy based on
product differentiation and spread itself too thin in pursuit of multiple objectives. It is clear that the
values on which Thorntons was originally founded were the principal reasons for the company s initial
success in Britain. From the very beginning, a combination of the quality ingredients that Thorntons
had used and the manufacturing expertise it had developed for its core products were the key reasons
for its success. Indeed, upon originally launching itself in the United Kingdom s confection industry,
Thorntons succeeded in positioning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thorntons also expanded into the ice cream industry and introduced a children s range. However, the
new product lines lowered the image of the chocolates to simple snacks or impulse buys . In
diversifying its product offerings, Thorntons was soon competing in a saturated market with big
names such as Cadbury. Also negatively impacting the company was the fact that not all products
were proven successful. Thorntons had little experience in the manufacture of ice cream and was soon
producing multiple mediocre products instead of several superior products. Customers were no longer
sure of the quality of Thorntons chocolate and as a result, sales performance was impacted. Although
by offering a wide range of products Thorntons could have possibly appealed to a greater number of
consumers (including teenagers and children), product offerings were not consistent and this
demographic often preferred to stick with well known brands such as Cadbury or Nestle. Therefore,
Thorntons image as a specialist chocolatier was seriously damaged. Another factor that has always
affected Thorntons sales results was issues in seasonal sales variations; during certain years, seasonal
demands were difficult to forecast and stock outs occurred, while during other years, over production
lead to waste. In order to remedy this difficulty, some preventative

Eukaryotic Cells In Childhood
One step at a time, encounter many phases to adulthood The human body is composed of millions of
different microscopic cells that join to shape who they are. Cells are considered the basic building
blocks of living things and have many parts, each with a different function(1). The nucleus within a
cell is where all the genetic information is stored. Within the nucleus, there are twenty three long
threads of DNA known as chromosomes. Each chromosome contains heredity information to direct
synthesis of proteins. Cells in humans and plants are known as eukaryotic and cells in bacteria are
known as prokaryotic cells. Each cell divides and replicates itself to grow and to replace the cells that

This cycle is conventionally divided into five discrete phases: gap phase 1(G1), synthesis, gap phase 2
(G2), mitosis and cytokinesis. During G1, the cell grows and prepares itself for division. Cells often
pause in G1 before DNA replication and enter a resting state called the G0 phase; cells may remain in
this phase for days to years before resuming cell division (book). During the synthesis phase, the cell
synthesizes the genome in chromosomes to produce two sister chromatids held together at the
centromere by cohesion. Once the cell has undergone the synthesis phase, it goes to the G2 phase. In
G2, the cell undergoes its second growth face and prepares for the separation of the newly replicated
genome. The G1 and G2 segments of interphase are periods of active growth, during which proteins
are synthesized and cell organelles are produced (book). G1, synthesis, and G2 together constitute

Where Men Win Glory, Jon Krakauer
Glory. It is an honor that all men, even if they are not aware, strive for. The definition of glory is
different for everyone. To one, glory might mean graduating medical school; to another, it could mean
taking center stage in a play as the applause surrounds her. To Pat Tillman, glory was not defined as a
multimillion dollar NFL contract or millions of adoring fans. It meant following his upright inner
voice and fulfilling his civil obligations. In Where Men Win Glory by Jon Krakauer, Tillman rejects a
successful football career to join the Army after being deeply disturbed by the September 11, 2011,
terrorist attack. I never thought a book with so much war and politics could be so heart wrenching.

Krakauer has a straight to the point, concrete writing style. I tend to favor abstract writing with a great
deal of figurative language. I had a hard time finding trope, but My favorite simile in the book is on
page 96. It said, Like a super villain in a Marvel comic book, he seemed to be endowed with the
ability to absorb the mightiest blows his enemy could deliver, draw energy from them, and become
more powerful as a consequence. This quote is comparing Osama bin Laden to a villain in a comic
book because it seemed like no matter what attempts the U.S. made to take him down, he always came
back stronger. If there had been more similes like this, the book would ve been better. Also, Krakauer
s excessive use of acronyms left me feeling frustratingly confused. Nevertheless, not all is bad about
Krakauer s writing technique. I was pleasantly surprised to find that he included actual entries from
Pat Tillman s journal and statements from Tillman s friends and family. In doing so, Krakauer made
me easily connect and empathize with Pat Tillman and his loved ones. This made a powerful impact
on the book and reader.
Despite my previous explanation of what I did not like about the book, the list of what I did like is
more significant. I will admit that I am not an avid reader. For a book to successfully make me feel
heartbroken says a lot. I had never heard of the story of Pat Tillman, so

Richard Wright s Native Son
Richard Wright s book, Native Son, is considered one of the pioneers of African American literature
within mainstream America (Ann Rayson). The book follows Bigger Thomas s journey through self
realization, while exposing the line of racism and its effects in 1930s Chicago. Yet, for an African
American narrative, the story lacks one key character, a strong woman. The women Wright includes in
his story are only there as a tool to better shape Bigger s, or another man s, character. While the lack of
any strong, female character could be based on Richard Wright s own life, his presentation of Mrs.
Thomas, Vera, Mrs. Dalton, Peggy, Mary, and Bessie all lack the characteristics required to fulfill the
strong female lead that African American literature demands. Despite of the reasoning behind
justification or condemnation for Wright s characters, when considering Wright s life it is clear that a
strong female character was missing. Past criticisms of Native Son have normalized Bigger s extreme
violence and commodification towards women, given Bigger s character. In How Bigger was Born
Wright even argues that all characters are portrayed exclusively as seen from Bigger s perspective
(Wright, xxxi). Literary critics and feminist challenge this justification based upon Wright s authority
as the author. They argue instead that If read as the negative polarity of the text, this process of male
reification and appropriation pervades the work. (France, 414). Every woman in the

Roy Lichtenstein Plagiarism
Roy Lichtenstein: Pop art icon, or copycat?
Roy Lichtenstein became a key figure in the pop art movement in the early 1960 s. Inspired by
American advertisements and comic strips, Lichtenstein is known for his bold colors, use of familiar
images, and focus on parody. Lichtenstein avoided painting abstract canvases without a subject, and
instead, emphasized the impersonality of the stencil process that was commonly used and
recognizable in commercial art at the time. Some would argue, too recognizable.
Roy Lichtenstein was considered controversial because his critics accused him of the only thing that
can destroy you as an artist: plagiarism. Many believed that Lichtenstein s work was far too similar to
the advertisements and comics he was inspired by to pass it off as his own, or at least not without
some sort of attribution to the original artist. Lichtenstein was often accused of profiting off of the
creativity of others, which poses a question still prevalent in art today: At what point is the work
manipulated enough to be considered an original creation? Others argue Picasso s famous quote, good
artist copy, great artists steal ; when an artist copies another artist, it s apparent, but when an artist
steals, that artist transforms a work into something that is their own. If an artist copies, you are able to
sense the original artist in that work. Even if the artist were to paint it beautifully, we feel art from
where it is originally derived.

Respiratory Acidosis Essay
Respiratory acidosis is when the lungs are unable to remove the normal amount of carbon dioxide as
the body produces it. This leads to an increase in PaCO2 (hypercapnia) which lowers HCO3. The
blood becomes too acidic because of the excess amount of CO2. The average range for PaCO2 is 35
45m Hg. Respiratory acidosis is caused by an issue with the lungs ability to remove CO2 properly, a
form of lung disease. Most causes are asthma, neuromuscular disorders, obesity and COPD. The lungs
and the kidneys regulate the body s pH. Lungs remove CO2 and the kidneys remove acid through the
urine. Treatment would include bronchodilator drugs to open airways, oxygen therapy and a breathing
machine might be prescribed. A person that is much older is more likely to develop this type of disease
since the strength of the kidneys and lungs has weekend with age. Also certain medications can affect
the pH balance of the body. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This leads to a decline in PCO2 and increases pH. The Main cause for Respiratory alkalosis is
hyperventilation which is over breathing. Panic attacks (anxiety), heart attack, drug use, asthma, fever,

in keeping the blood pH balanced by releasing the perfect amount of carbon dioxide. Treatment is
dependent on the cause of respiratory alkalosis. For instance, if it was for anxiety you would exhale
into a paper bag carbon dioxide and breathe that into the lungs. Doing this can restore the carbon
dioxide back into the body. The body s pH depends on the kidneys and lungs so in elderly it is much
harder to maintain this balance due to the decline in the kidneys and the lungs ability to

this as Zadie Smith brings the matter right into the open, shedding new light on problems of race and

compelling immigrant characters who are struggling with their cultural identities. The main drama

being pricked for a sample of their blood, after the blood is sent to the lab for testing the results would
be available on the next available business day. If the results are positive the lab is required to do
follow up testing on the blood sample to confirm if the initial HIV result was accurate. The second
type of at home HIV testing is the OraQuick In Home HIV Test, which is used with a swab stick and
tube to keep the sample and testing solution. The test is used by passing a cotton swab attached to the
stick on the side of the person s cheek to get an analysis of their oral fluids. Results generally take
twenty minutes to be ready. Any time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thanks to better preventative measures and understanding of the infection, the life expectancy of
people living with HIV is now longer then ever. There is a better quality of life for people who are
infected because of the medications and treatment processes. In the article Changing Trends in
Complications and Mortality Rates Among US Youth and Young adults With HIV Infection in the Era
of Combination Antiretroviral Therapy ,Mirani ,Williams and Chernoff create an awareness of
complications and mortality rates in youth who have HIV in correlation with the decrease of using
Combination Antiretroviral Therapy (CART). The key question the authors are addressing is if the
HIV infection and long term CART create new challenges for the infected youth. The main prediction
that the authors had throughout the study was that there would be underlying issues with chronic
infection and age related problems. The data was conducted between 2001 and 2007, 1201. The study
compared death of an HIV infected youth with pregnancy complications. What was found was that the
young and young adult survivors are now dealing with problems way worse which are associated with
HIV, a more chronic HIV which causes long term complications, such as poor bone health. The
authors also observed that there were very high rates of genital tract infections, which are abnormal
and can vastly increase rate of

The Beat Generation
The Definition of Beatness But yet, but yet, woe, woe unto those who think that the Beat Generation
means crime, delinquency, immorality, amorality ... woe unto those who attack it on the grounds that
they simply don t understand history and the yearning of human souls ... woe in fact unto those who
those who make evil movies about the Beat Generation where innocent housewives are raped by
beatniks! ... woe unto those who spit on the Beat Generation, the wind ll blow it back. Jack Kerouac
The Beat Generation or Beatness , if you will, has always been looked down upon by society simply
because they were a misunderstood generation... much like today s Generation X. The Beats attempt
to liberate their minds and spirits through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some issues addressed by the Beats were spiritual and sexual liberation, legalizing certain drugs,
environmental awareness, opposition to harmful industrialization, and the promotion of peace. Among
the Beats hoping to encourage change through their work were authors Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg,
William Burroughs, Neal Cassady, and Gregory Corso. Writers, such as the above stated, moved away
from the standard structured style of writing and went toward spontaneous and unadulterated prose.
This style of writing allowed the true, underlying thoughts to come out instead of the supposed to s
and the I shouldn t have s . Through their works as well as the works of others, a transition came into
effect for American society...from war and unrest to peace and freedom to do whatever floats your
boat. In his novel, On the Road, Jack Kerouac speaks of his own experiences as a writer on the road
during the Beat Generation. He basically gives the reader the true essence of the Beat life...on the
road, going any way the wind blows. For example, he writes: Filled with dreams of what I d do in
Chicago, in Denver, and then finally in San Fran... I started hitching up the thing. Five scattered rides
took me to the desired Bear Mountain Bridge, where Route 6 arched in from New England. Basically,
this shows the freedom and fearlessness in the attitude of a Beat writer. In general, the Beat attitude
had a huge impact on American society. Their free spirited demeanor sparked

Uncle Tom s Cabin
Leo Tolstoy once said, All great literature is one of two stories; a man goes on a journey or a stranger
comes to town. This statement can be shown in the works almost any great author. specifically The
Sorrows of Young Werther by Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe, Uncle Tom s Cabin by Harriet Beecher
Stowe, and 1984 by George Orwell support Tolstoy s quote. These authors with their various works
show that Leo Tolstoy s famous quote is true. Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe was a German author in
the 1700 s. He studied Law in Leipzig, Germany and enjoyed writing love poems. He is most famous
for his story The Sorrows of Young Werther was modeled after his own life. It was the bitterness of
this experience that led Goethe to write his Sorrows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tom, Eliza, Henry, every bounty hunter, and pretty much every main character in this story travels
somewhere as well as arrives somewhere new. Eliza and her son head up north to find safety with her
husband, Tom arrives at a new slave owners home, Loker goes through a change in his beliefs, and
Eva goes through the journey of life. In addition, the issue of slavery itself is a journey. From the
beginning when slavery was mainstream, to the Emancipation Proclamation, slavery is a journey that
the American people and African Americans took. Uncle Tom s Cabin resolves, or appears to resolve,
the most profound dilemma of the day; it achieves for its audience, through its struggles with human
fallibility and moral grayness, a certitude which makes its own position of judgement seems very like
the Judgement of God (Bellin 276). These are only a few instances of the many examples that help to

Essay on Claims by Judith Ortiz
Claims by Judith Ortiz
Judith Ortiz Cofer is a Puerto Rican whose writing often examines the conflict and the beauty of
cultures mixing together, as people immigrate to America. Though she exhibits a strong connection to
her Latin heritage, she often seems to also resent that part of her life. There are many standards and
expectations in the Puerto Rican society which Cofer writes to subvert, viewing them negatively. As a
Puerto Rican woman, Cofer often disagrees with the limits and expectations placed on a woman in
Puerto Rican society, and this attitude is the subject of much of her work. In Claims, the speaker
describes Grandmother. Cofer uses this poem to illustrate a family and describe an individual, as well
as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Examining Claims on another lever, one finds messages speaking out against the portrayal of a good
woman in Puerto Rican societies. Women are expected to sacrifice every aspect of their own lives for
their husbands and children. The Grandmother accepted her role in society, but always had dreams of
claiming her own life. Grandmother made a promise when she was married, and she kept her promise.
She raised five children and led a life committed to a husband who was expected by society to wander.
But all along, Grandmother had dreamed of the day when she could secure her freedom. She dreamed
of sleeping in her own bed and simply being herself. Her dream is finally realized in old age, as
described in the poem. Grandmother claimed the right to be herself and live her life. Her days were
constantly occupied by caring for her children and her nights were always invaded by her husband s
presence. Now that her family has all moved on, Grandmother has her house and her life for herself.
Each right that she has claimed has multiple meanings about her life and society, her dreams and true
personality. The first right, that of sleeping alone and owning her nights, describes an internal conflict
which Grandmother carried. While she truly loved her family, she yearned for space and freedom. She
wanted to control at least some part of her life, but

Zoot Suit Riots Case Study

Zoot Suit Riots
Last year I was able to get a small glimpse on the Zoot Suit Riots that had taken place in the 1930s.
On August 4, 1942 the United States concluded a temporary agreement for the use of Mexican
agricultural labor on United State farms. World War II took a huge impact on the beginning of this
program and the beginning of the conflicts that ran through Harlem. These so called riots soon began
to change the views on the Mexicans that were dressed in such a way the Americans began to have
conflict with these Pachuco Zoot Suiters. In June 1943 Zoot Suit Riots in Los Angeles, California
were a series of attacks against Mexican American youth and other minorities by white American
servicemen. After these Zoot Suit riots broke out and began to startle the mexican ethnicities. Families
were damaged, lives were killed. Discouraging this is a topic that was completely reversed and not
taken as seriously as is should have been. Imposing the lower and colored minorities for the economic
problems this country has gone through.
During these times dance halls were extremely popular for interacting, dancing and forgetting about
the stress of what was going on around the economic world such as the Great Depression. L.A was full
of mexicans. The style of the young people began to evolve and mexicans were influenced through the
hip, slang and Chicano ways. These zoot suits outfits were very popular in African American

  • 2. Analysis Of Mrs. Dalloway By Virginia Woolf Beautiful, complex, incisive.... One of the most moving, revolutionary artworks of the twentieth century (Michael Cunningham) Mrs. Dalloway, by Virginia Woolf is not only a book that entertains millions, like Stephanie Meyer s Twilight, J.K. Rowling s Harry Potter and the Philosopher s Stone, or E. L. James s Fifty Shades of Grey, but it is a work of literature that revolutionized the art of writing, which continues to influence people s philosophies, beliefs, and views on life even roughly after a century since its publication. In fact, music, fashion, food, films, books, clothes, and paintings are a few aspects of art all impacted immensely by Mrs. Dalloway, a story highlighting a mere day in a woman s life as she prepares for a party. ... All in all, Champagne displays the same feelings Septimus felt with society today. Disturbia, a pop song sung by Rhianna, connects the idea of chaos and paranoia in the novel with contemporary art and postmodern society. For example, the lyrics What s wrong with me? Why do I feel like this? Additionally, the lyrics, It s a thief in the night. To come and grab you. It can creep up inside you. And consume you. A disease of the mind. It can control you. Watch out, you might just go under. Drugs and the Music Industry Alex Bass Mrs. Baird English 11B, Period 3 04 June 2012 Drugs and the Music Industry Throughout the years, drugs and music have been as synonymous as America and baseball. Especially within the past 50 years, this nation has experienced the birth, and death, of many genres of music due to rampant drug use. Sure, we all know that drugs are bad for you and that if you abuse them, they will eventually lead to your death, but these substances have created music that has inspired millions around the world, and who is to say that is a bad thing? The use of drugs in the music scene was at its most extreme during the Hardcore Punk movement of the 1980 s. This scene was entirely different from any that was experienced before. Drug use also held initial significance in the movement; the inherent connection between recreational drug use and the production of rock music applied to the Hardcore movement just as it appeared in the music of the 60 s. (Cashbaugh) The punks took any drug that was available to them that was cheap and hit fast and hard. Inevitably, their drug of choice became speed because, It was cheap, it was around, and you could play fast music on it. It also curtailed your appetite. In San Francisco, the Negative Trend guys literally lived on potatoes. (Marzuk) This revolutionary drug let musicians play for days upon end with no sleep and little need for basic necessities. It may have taken a toll on their bodies, however the pure, raw energy it created was something never seen before. Drug use, however, does not increase your creativity. There is no scientific evidence that shows a direct correlation between drug and alcohol use and the creative parts of your brains. To the contrary, studies have shown that I actually limits the amount your brain functions. • 4. The Controversy Of Embryonic Stem Cells For decades, researchers use of stem cells has caused a controversy and the consideration of the ethics of research involving the development, usage, and destruction of human embryos. Most commonly, this controversy focuses on embryonic stem cells. Not all stem cell research involves the creation, usage and destruction of human embryos. For example, adult stem cells, amniotic stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells do not involve creating, using or destroying human embryos and thus are minimally, if at all, controversial. Many less controversial sources of acquiring stem cells include using cells from the umbilical cord, breast milk, and bone marrow. (Brunt, 2012) In 1998, scientists discovered how to extract stem cells from human embryos. This discovery led to moral ethics questions concerning research involving embryo cells, such as what restrictions should be made on studies using these types of cells? At what point does one consider life to begin? Is it just to destroy an embryo cell if it has the potential to cure countless numbers of patients? Political leaders are debating how to regulate and fund research studies that involve the techniques used to remove the embryo cells. No clear consensus has emerged. Other recent discoveries may extinguish the need for embryonic stem cells. With this in mind, we will discover both sides of the issue from a pros and cons point of view. Stem cell research has expanded at an exponential rate, but its therapeutic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Cultural Imperialism In The British East India Company India s production of tea has increased from 10.8% to 90.13% since the British East India Company started production in Calcutta, India over 35 years ago. According to India Tea News , the British East India Company dramatically increased the production of tea in India in response to Qing China s monopoly in the tea industry. During the 19th century, the British East India Company was focused on controlling India, political and military gains in India, and trade of spices and opium (Mohan). While the British East India Company was colonizing India and reaping the rewards, the British colonists were introduced to different aspects of tea and cooking styles from native Indians and Qing China (Liu). Soon after, the British colonists adopted the ideals/practices of trading/brewing tea from Qing China. Since the British were introduced to different types of tea, the demand had increased and thus prompted the British East India Company to intervene (Mohan). This paper argues that Qing China struck fear in the British East India Company which forced the company to use cultural imperialism throughout India and Europe during the 1840s 1890s. In order to achieve their goals, the British East India Company conducted the tea trade as a private entity working on behalf of the British Empire. Compared to the British East India Company, the Chinese state had total control of the tea industry within Qing China. The British East India Company had several differences and several ... This play is the life of young King Henry V, who ascended to the throne after his father, Henry IV s death. These times were much different for England, as Henry V was a noble lord whom everyone loved, whereas angry factions haunted his father s reign. Shakespeare portrays a fairly accurate account of the historical Henry V, but certain parts are either inflated deflated, or conflated to dramatize Henry V as a character suitable for a Renaissance audience. • 8. Food In Korean Food A few days ago, a friend invited me and a five other people over to her house, as her parents wanted to cook us a home cooked meal. The dining table had a total of six chairs, including the host s. I noticed that the spacing between the chairs were relatively of close distance, showing how Meals identify social boundaries surrounding familiarity with people, and these are articulated around ideas of people s intimacy and distance (Crowther 161). An elaborate plate of food was set out for each guest, as her parents had cooked us steak with roasted potatoes, grilled asparagus, corn, a piece of bread, as well as a dish of cream spaghetti. There was also sparkling water and regular water to drink along with the meal. For all of the guests, this meal was especially enjoyable because we were all students dorming in college, so we had not eaten a home cooked meal in a long time. This can be reconnected to the topic of commensality, as The sharing of food reinforces ties, forges new memories, and allows people to reflect on the importance of eating together (Crowther 151). In Korean culture, it is respectable for the guests to help set the table with the necessary utensils, as it also shows the parents that we are appreciative of the meal. Right as the plate of food was set on the table, everyone began to take out their phones, waiting to capture pictures of the food. Some would say they are imaginations and fantasies, whereas others would claim dreams to be their aspirations, desires, and hopes, something they want to achieve someday. Aerosmith uses the latter group s meaning of dreams in their song Dream On . The song exposes how one spends their whole life reaching the goals and wants that may never be all fulfilled, but continues to dream and hope, corresponding with the difficulties the band itself faced during the start of their career and how they kept trying to get to the top. The two selected for this paper are persistence and precision. Both are difficult to embed because they require disciple and mental toughness. This paper discusses the connection between the two and how they can be defeated if a student is distracted from them. Persistence and precision are habits of mind that require many of the same skills to acquire. Persistence is defined as sticking to a task until it is completed (Costa Kallick, 2008). It is the ability to fail and to continue pressing towards a goal despite continuous rejection of the effort. People who have this trait are not afraid of the outcome of a single endeavor, but press on until they are successful. Having precision of language and thought is striving to communicate accurately in both written and oral form, taking care to use precise language; defining terms; and using correct names, labels and analogies (Costa Kallick, 2008). This ability is fostered by a mind that wants to ensure that it is communicating thoughts clearly so that they are not misunderstood. It is also a skill that takes a great deal of determination and discipline to perfect. These two skills can be innate, in a very few people, but by the majority they are acquired (Watts, 2012). Thinking clearly is the first step to communicating clearly, and this leads to the ability to accomplish tasks. A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, the gist of it was the same. I will focus my paragraphs based on the three questions. What are the pressures that lead executives and managers to cook the books? There are several factors that can come into play. For WorldCom, it started with the deterioration of the industry in 2000. This was due to overcapacity, heightened competition, the economic recession, the dot com bubble collapse, and a reduced demand for telecommunications services. All of these factors put extra pressure on WorldCom s most important performance indicator, the expense to revenue ratio. The company was so concerned about keeping it above 42% that they were willing to do anything, even commit fraud. Bernie Ebbers told the senior staff that they would lose everything if the company did not improve its performance. This leads into my second pressure, which deals with personal lives. Employees were receiving tremendous benefits due to the company s great performance. However, if the company did not improve, people s salaries would be cut or even worse, their jobs would be cut. That is why so many people were willing to engage in the fraud, because they felt WorldCom was supplying a salary and benefits that other companies would not be able to match. The cut up method involves cutting up a page into four sections, rearrange said sections and then read the product. A new found sense of surrealism is discovered in something already familiar to us. Surrealist artists of the era were advocating for an art of the unconscious mind. From the coiling of dribbling fluids to the convection current of a slice of fluid heated from below, patterns forming in natural systems are still unsolved. The best that can be done is to make models of the systems and use approximations. In this paper I will give an overview of the Rayleigh Bénard problem as well as describe the derivation of a four mode lorenz model and a linear stability analysis of the hydrodynamic equations to find the critical Rayleigh number responsible for predicting convection in a system. 2 Basic Fluid Dynamics 2.1 What is a fluid? A fluid is a substance that will deform (flow) when a shear stress is applied. This is in contrast to a solid, which will compress rather than continuously deform under such a stress. Fluids are a subset of the phases of matter and include liquids (incompressible fluids), and gases (compressible fluids). Shown in Figure 2.1.1 is of a slice of fluid between two plates undergoing a shear stress. The bottom plate is stationary, while the top one is allowed to move. The fluid adjacent to the top plate will be pulled along at about the same speed as the plate, but the layer of fluid below that resists the motion just a bit and moves slower, same with the layer below that all the way to the layer next to the bottom plate. The organization was modeled after the Texas Railroad Commission and formed at the Baghdad Conference in 1960 by Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Venezuela . The founding five counties were later joined by Qatar, Indonesia, Libya, the United Arab Emirates, Algeria, and Nigeria . At the time of its creation most industrial countries were immensely dependent on the oil imported from the region of the world represented by the OPEC members. Nonetheless, the member countries had yet to devise a workable system for responding to serious disruptions in oil supply before OPEC. OPEC s purpose was to serve as a sort of cartel. It would co ordinate and unify petroleum policies among Member Countries, in order to secure fair and stable prices for petroleum producers; an efficient, economic and regular supply of petroleum to consuming nations; and a fair return on capital to those investing in the industry. During the 1960s, OPEC was only modestly successful in influencing oil prices, which remained relatively stable. OPEC member counties did not gain control of their own oil production decisions until the 1970 s because oil companies had a large stock, and therefore a proportionately large say, in many of the OPEC countries oil production businesses. Therefore, Thorntons image as a specialist chocolatier was seriously damaged. Another factor that has always affected Thorntons sales results was issues in seasonal sales variations; during certain years, seasonal demands were difficult to forecast and stock outs occurred, while during other years, over production lead to waste. Cells are considered the basic building blocks of living things and have many parts, each with a different function(1). The nucleus within a cell is where all the genetic information is stored. Within the nucleus, there are twenty three long threads of DNA known as chromosomes. Each chromosome contains heredity information to direct synthesis of proteins. Cells in humans and plants are known as eukaryotic and cells in bacteria are known as prokaryotic cells. During the synthesis phase, the cell synthesizes the genome in chromosomes to produce two sister chromatids held together at the centromere by cohesion. Once the cell has undergone the synthesis phase, it goes to the G2 phase. In G2, the cell undergoes its second growth face and prepares for the separation of the newly replicated genome. To one, glory might mean graduating medical school; to another, it could mean taking center stage in a play as the applause surrounds her. To Pat Tillman, glory was not defined as a multimillion dollar NFL contract or millions of adoring fans. It meant following his upright inner voice and fulfilling his civil obligations. In Where Men Win Glory by Jon Krakauer, Tillman rejects a successful football career to join the Army after being deeply disturbed by the September 11, 2011, terrorist attack. It said, Like a super villain in a Marvel comic book, he seemed to be endowed with the ability to absorb the mightiest blows his enemy could deliver, draw energy from them, and become more powerful as a consequence. This quote is comparing Osama bin Laden to a villain in a comic book because it seemed like no matter what attempts the U.S. made to take him down, he always came back stronger. If there had been more similes like this, the book would ve been better. Also, Krakauer s excessive use of acronyms left me feeling frustratingly confused. • 36. Richard Wright s Native Son Richard Wright s book, Native Son, is considered one of the pioneers of African American literature within mainstream America (Ann Rayson). The book follows Bigger Thomas s journey through self realization, while exposing the line of racism and its effects in 1930s Chicago. Yet, for an African American narrative, the story lacks one key character, a strong woman. The women Wright includes in his story are only there as a tool to better shape Bigger s, or another man s, character. While the lack of any strong, female character could be based on Richard Wright s own life, his presentation of Mrs. Thomas, Vera, Mrs. Dalton, Peggy, Mary, and Bessie all lack the characteristics required to fulfill the strong female lead that African American literature demands. Despite of the reasoning behind justification or condemnation for Wright s characters, when considering Wright s life it is clear that a strong female character was missing. Past criticisms of Native Son have normalized Bigger s extreme violence and commodification towards women, given Bigger s character. In How Bigger was Born Wright even argues that all characters are portrayed exclusively as seen from Bigger s perspective (Wright, xxxi). Literary critics and feminist challenge this justification based upon Wright s authority as the author. They argue instead that If read as the negative polarity of the text, this process of male reification and appropriation pervades the work. (France, 414). Every woman in the ... Inspired by American advertisements and comic strips, Lichtenstein is known for his bold colors, use of familiar images, and focus on parody. Lichtenstein avoided painting abstract canvases without a subject, and instead, emphasized the impersonality of the stencil process that was commonly used and recognizable in commercial art at the time. Some would argue, too recognizable. Roy Lichtenstein was considered controversial because his critics accused him of the only thing that can destroy you as an artist: plagiarism. Many believed that Lichtenstein s work was far too similar to the advertisements and comics he was inspired by to pass it off as his own, or at least not without some sort of attribution to the original artist. Lichtenstein was often accused of profiting off of the creativity of others, which poses a question still prevalent in art today: At what point is the work manipulated enough to be considered an original creation? Others argue Picasso s famous quote, good artist copy, great artists steal ; when an artist copies another artist, it s apparent, but when an artist steals, that artist transforms a work into something that is their own. This leads to an increase in PaCO2 (hypercapnia) which lowers HCO3. The blood becomes too acidic because of the excess amount of CO2. The average range for PaCO2 is 35 45m Hg. Respiratory acidosis is caused by an issue with the lungs ability to remove CO2 properly, a form of lung disease. Most causes are asthma, neuromuscular disorders, obesity and COPD.
