Ruslana Korshunova Suicide
Term Paper: Suicide Analysis of Ruslana Korshunova
Amanda N. Martin
Gallaudet University
One of the largest known social problems of modern times affecting mankind one way or another is
suicide. It has become everyday news within the media reporting someone who has committed suicide
for various reasons. Though every suicide has its own story, the most common reasons are related to a
possible result of relationship failure, financial difficulties, and someone suffering from a mental
illness such as depression. While suicide is frequently associated to bullied teens, it is also affecting
those that are viewed by society as having lavish lifestyles, or the life many average citizens aspire to
live. More celebrities are committing suicide as a way out of financial difficulties, alcohol or
substance abuse disorders, and as previously mentioned, depression. Upon researching multiple
celebrities who have attempted and/or successfully committed suicide, there was one popular figure
that caught my attention and encouraged me to complete further research on her suicide. This
particular individual was known in the modeling industry as the Russian Rapunzel and having great
wells of beauty . Ruslana Korshunova had the life that many twenty year old girls fantasized about.
The society craved model, Ruslana, worked for some of the world s highly coveted top designers and
traveled to places like Milan, London, and Paris. She was a natural rising superstar whose beauty and

The Reefs And Its Effects On The Coral Reefs
Puerto Rico is built from a volcano. So along the coast of Puerto Rico, there are many coral reefs. This
island I chose to look at, is called Desecheo Island or Isla de Desecheo. It s just of the coast of Puerto
Rico. The coral reefs in the island are continental reefs according to geomorphologists( people who
study physical features of the Earth s surface). It is a fringing reef around the coast of the island and a
shelf reef beyond that. In the fringing reef, the depth of the reef is mixed between shallow and deep.
When it gets near the shelf reef areas, the depth gets deeper. The coastal averages is about 80 degrees
fahrenheit with high density. The biodiversity is very high in coral reefs. A coral reef takes about one
percent of the ocean, but it has around twentyfive percent marine life. This means a lot to the coral
reefs because the more species can lead to better conditions. There are many different kinds of fish
that may eat algae, which can protect the coral. Bigger fish or even sharks keep the population of
smaller fish in good hands. Some fish can hurt the zooxanthellae. Then there are cleaners that eat up
dead organisms and keep the reef look nice. Economically, the coral reefs are very good. Fisherman
can fish and tourist love to go snorkeling in coral reefs. However, that isn t always that great for the
coral reef itself. Coral reefs provide people with food, medicine, and tons of revenue. Abiotic factors
that are necessary for a coral reef are

Short Essay On Robert Moses
Immediately after the Second World War, Robert Moses power increased exponentially. He then, got a
control over city s housing authority. Huge amount of money was spent by the federal government on
the public housing and low income housing. This money was spent in New York at the command of
Robert Moses. Up to that point Moses had been building mostly parks and bridges, now, he was going
to build inside the city. No one could have predicted the magnitude of explosion that would overtake
New York. Moses demanded to be the construction co ordinater. The construction co ordinater has to
represent the city in all its dealing with federal government. And therefore, he got a control over
public housing and federal money. In the end of the year 1948, ... Show more content on

After the war, every one realized the need of good arterial routes through the cities. Soon after that,
Moses planned to ram six expressways right across the heart of New York. Amongst all the federal
projects under his control, none of them had more devastating consequences for the city and its
people. The Cross Bronx expressway of 225 foot wide concrete and 7 miles long destructed the city in
such a way that New Yorkers would never forget. This expressway crossed around 12 to 15 different
neighbourhoods and was built in a straight line without thinking that who are the people living in these
neighbourhoods. People here worked, capped up their properties, and did business where they lived. It
was culturally and materially self sufficient world. People were forced to evacuate their homes within
ninety days. One after another, Robert Moses rammed one expressway after another upending the
lives of more than a quarter of a million people. In 1962 Jane Jacobs, a resident of the town became
the chairman of the Joint Committee to Stop the Lower Manhattan Expressway, in reaction to Moses
plans to build a highway through Manhattan s Washington Square Park and West Village. Her efforts
to stop the expressway led to her arrest during a demonstration in 1968, and the campaign is often
considered one of the turning points in the development of New York City. Moses had previously

Comparing Slayer And Metal Music
We cannot speak about Heavy Metal and not discuss Slayer and Metallica. The thrash metal scene has
them to thank for defining the sound of that genre. Both bands are also part of a successful tour known
as the Big Four of Thrash. The Big Four, comprising of the bands Anthrax, Megadeth, Slayer and
Metallica are called the Big Four because of the influence that they have had on almost every metal
act that succeeded them. They are also credited with bringing the genre of thrash metal to the forefront
of the metal scene (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?

When you have had a career as long as Metallica s and Slayer s, maintaining an identity and a certain
style becomes increasingly difficult. Fans and reviewers alike are bound to compare new albums with
the previous albums. This helps to keep both bands on their toes as they try to find a balance between
maintaining their original sound while not releasing an album that sounds similar to albums of the
past. A comparison between album sales and what said album sounds like would help in determining

5-Htp And Depression
Below are 3 of the most important natural supplements for enhancing mood and improve depression.
5 HTP is a natural occurring amino acid which is sold over the counter for depression and even
insomnia treatment. 5 HTP has been said to work by increasing the levels of serotonin in the brain. All
though some double blind studies have suggested that 5 HTP may have some benefits, better clinical
trials are needed to confirm the effectiveness of this amino acid for depression.5 HTP has been linked
to cause heart valve damage as well as hypertension.
DHEA (Dehydroepiandrosterone) is a natural occurring hormone in the body that is produced by the
adrenal glands. As men and women age, the levels of DHEA begin to steadily drop. Out of the three

The Pros And Cons Of An Autonomous Car
Whether it is in a laboratory, boardroom, the halls of Congress, or at the precipice of a perilous
situation, weighing the value of one life versus another and making life and death decisions is an
excruciating process with no easy answers (Kaplan, 2016). Nonetheless, as the discussion about
autonomous cars and the ethical dilemmas they present rages on, I find it interesting that we are
insistent upon imposing higher moral and ethical standards on the programming and decision making
abilities of an autonomous car than human drivers (Parnell, 2016). Moreover, as we look to do so, we
are also departing from the ethical philosophy that has been utilized for many years to pioneer many
of the safety features, laws, and regulations to enhance automobile ... Show more content on

However, there was little discussion about the significant consequences associated with the human
driver s split second decision (Lin, n.d.). Moreover, when humans are compelled to instinctually react
to life threatening stimuli, their decisions are primarily driven by self preservation rather than a
cognitive moral philosophy (Taflinger, 1996). As a result, I believe the deontology should be the moral
philosophy utilized to address the moral dilemmas associated with autonomous cars. Subsequently,
manufacturers, scholars, and law makers should gather data assessing how most humans would react
in these scenarios and write code for autonomous vehicles to respond in a similar manner in these
excruciatingly painful scenarios. Additionally, utilizing an deontological moral philosophy would also
enable auto manufacturers and law makers to continue to leverage the same moral philosophy they
have utilized for the past 50 years, as well as the data from past crash tests and experiences to innovate
and regulate automobile safety features, such as, seat belts, crumple zones, anti locking brakes, air
bags, and automatic emergency braking systems given that each of these safety systems were designed
to protect the passengers inside the vehicle (Rynkiewicz, 2015). Consequently, enabling consumers to
reap the many other safety benefits of autonomous vehicles, while having a clear understanding that
when faced with a split second perilous decision, the vehicle will mirror the instinctual actions of a
human driver, utilize deontological moral philosophy, and attempt to safeguard the lives of the car s

Flying Troutmans Essay
The Flying Troutmans
By: Miriam Toews
The Flying Troutmans by Miriam Toews showed many experiences related to situations that occur in
an individual s daily life. The novel shows evidence that proves dysfunctional in a relationship such as
husband and wife relations, a child and a mother relations or relations between two sisters who live a
different life.
In everyday life, a relation is always identified as trust and support. In this novel, a relation between a
husband and a wife is shown in a different way. Min, one of the characters in the story, is shown
losing her mental stability and is living with her two children. She did not have any contact with her
husband in few years and neither did he try to contact ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hey, said Thebes, what did Min whisper in your ear at the hospital? I can t remember, Hattie replied.
Yes you can, think said Thebes. She said we should go find our father, Hattie answered (Page 25, 26).
Later, when things started to get different, Hattie decides to go on a road trip, to find Cherkis. The
only problem was they did not know where he was. But being Min s only sister, she decides not to
give up. To her, the only thing that mattered was travelling. Their Journey begins from North Dakota
where they had to stay at scary motels, meet hippies and avoid scary noises coming from their van.
Hattie survived with this just for her sister. Just like Min threw Cherkis out of her life. She didn t want
her sister to interfere either. She ignored and stayed away from her.
Last, a relationship between a Mother and her children which is always memorable. In this novel, the
author tried reversing the role of a mother and two children. Thebes and Logan are shown taking care
of Min. Thebes who is eleven year old is described as a purple haired, dirty street girl. Despite being
her daughter, she tries to help her as much as possible. But how much can eleven year and fifteen year
old children do? They then decide to give up and send her to a Psychiatric hospital and inform Hattie
about it. These children lived life without their parents and are living a life of an Orphan. She told me
she s been trying to take care of things but it wasn t working anymore. Min

Operas of Mozart Don Giovanni Essay
Donna Anna, Donna Elvira Zerlino
Mozart s Don Giovanni
The choice of the Three women of Don Giovanni can give a good understanding of the type of music
which was used to create an opera in the 18th century Italy. The opera buffa was a comic opera with a
funny story line and light music. Mozart wrote at different levels. In order to have full understanding
of the women s roles, it is necessary to understand the social context of women in the 18 century. In
Kristi Brown s Mozart s Women she compared Donna Anna to a misfortunate Spanish maiden. It was
very common for composers to take the style of where they were living at the time and write in that
genre of music. Donna Anna was daughter who was to be married. The role was ... Show more content

His wife would forgive him for his philander with servant girls but not with educated or artistic
(Stafford 119) (Paumgartner, Mozart, 273). As this showed the sexual freedom of the 18th century
Italy, it was quite common to have extra marital affairs for both men and women. Discretion was the
only rule that was demanded by the upper society to which Don Giovanni never adhered. Donna
Elvira had a love hate relationship with him. He would not have been able to access her rooms.
Donna Anna would have had a waiting room with a man servant or her lady in waiting attending to
her. It would have been highly unlikely that she, who had a fiancé, put herself in a position of having
truly been violated. This is where Mozart is making the point of a woman having to put on social
graces. Donna Anna shows her intelligence in her coming down in a fury and singing in the duet with
Don Octavio how she wants revenge . (Act I) It was not a physical affront, it was an affront to her
intellectual dignity that he should be able to reach her inner sanctuary. In a more symbolic
interpretation, perhaps Mozart was doubting Donna Anna as a bride or maybe the opposite. Mozart
liked a strong, intelligent woman who set the rules. Donna Anna will not get married until Don
Octavio revenges her father. He shows himself to be weaker than she is. This is usually the role of the
man, but Mozart reverses the male role as a female role which is a theme he often

Agendas, Alternatives, And Public Policy
Author John Kingdon s book entitled Agendas, Alternatives, and Public Policy takes at look at Policy
issues and examines how these policy issues became issues to begin with. Kingdon starts his book by
looking into how policy issues come to the government s attention. He expresses to his readers that
problems get identified when we focus on certain events or changes. Policy is taken over by
researchers and bureaucrats, and the political aspect is dominated by members of the government.
When these three come together, Problems, Policy and Politics, issues get on the decision agenda.
In the first chapter of his book, Kingdon explains the point of his writing. He wants his readers to
know why and how certain issues come to and overtake the government and decision agenda. He
explains the difference between issues and alternatives. Issues are the vast areas of concern whereas
alternatives are the specific ideas that could be implemented. He also makes a distinction between the
government agenda and decision agenda. The government agenda includes subjects that people
involved in government are aware of. The decision agenda only includes specific issues. These issues
are made to discuss and take action on.
Kingdon begins by examining the importance of various actors within the government. The actors in
the administration include the President, Executive Office Staff, and Political Appointees. The
President is the actor who sets agendas through veto power and hiring and firing

M S also needs to look at its pricing strategy s because for a long time they relied on their strong brand

would be a key area for them to review. Consumers are now looking for cheaper alternatives
especially in clothing because trends are always changing. Cheaper forms of production such as
moving areas of production abroad where labour is cheap has allowed companies to spend less and
therefore sell items more cheaply. M S products have become more elastic as people are no longer

Evaluation Of A Interview Or Interrogation
Interviews and interrogations are similar in that the officer must establish a relationship with
individuals and ask good questions in a planned out and controlled surrounding or semi controlled
setting while carefully listening and documenting the statements. Interviews are conducted to gather
information from individuals who may have detailed information that can further the case such as
information obtained from bystanders or the victim themselves. Interrogations, on the other hand, can
be perceived as a more adversarial approach to again or test the information collected to obtain a
confession or eliminate a suspect. According to Swanson et al. (2012), an officer must be persuasive
and knowledgeable in the psychological approach to avoid a defensive personality as they establish a
relationship in both the interrogations and the interview process. Such is often portrayed in
understanding the emotional aspect of empathy, fear, anger, and sympathy so officers can control and
respond appropriately in each given situation (p. 125). Either way, planning a successful interview or
interrogation requires officer s to do their research and to be well versed in the facts of the case. This
may require reviewing the evidence recovered and checking out the background of the victim, suspect,
and witnesses to have a better understanding of their daily lives, perceptions, and suspect s motives
(Swanson et al., 2012, p.126). Planning successful interviews consist of seeking out those

The Immense Changes That Aboriginal People Endured During...
Whether or not Aboriginal people had left the land to dry for itself is not our concern here. Nor is the
aim of this paper to prove the English were right in claiming sovereignty over Australian land, since
there is much proof they hadn t even been the first Europeans to meet with terra nullius . Nevertheless,
as history speaks for itself, there s clear evidence Aboriginal people endured immense changes during
colonization years, on the land where they stood, cultures unshaken, for thousands of years, before
Europe had a say in that. Indeed, what we aim for is to examine some ideas perpetrated along the
years in regards to the devastating effects that emerged once the first ship of colonizers arrived.
We ve had this debate about Australia was a terra nullius and it was a wasted landscape and people
hadn t used it and hadn t farmed it. They ve discovered that it probably supported 1.6 bilion lives and
that s how productive Aboriginal people were able to make this part of the Earth which has the most
irregular and unreliable rain fall and the driest continent on Earth. As historian Janet McCalman (First

then, Aboriginal people have proved you wrong. And, indeed, if we consider the extend of time people

The Man In The Dead Machine Summary
In the poem The Man in the Dead Machine, Donald Hall uses vivid imagery and alternative scenarios
to emphasize the sheer overwhelming specter of death that loomed over those serving in the greatest
conflict known to man. The hook that Hall uses to initially provoke the readers interest is the
mentioning of the Grumman Hellcat, a fighter plane used by Americans in World War II. Specifying
the model of the fighter plane allows the reader to be knowledgeable about the setting of the poem.
The meaning of this poem focuses on the destructivity wartime causes on the life of those in service.
The main focal point Hall emphasizes throughout his poem is the uncertainty of life and death.
However, other important targets of this poem are suicide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout this poem there are multiple ways Hall connects the poem to its core meaning. Located
within the title, the word dead is used to describe the machine. Being dead is the ultimate end of a life
and that uncertainty of death sparks fear among many people. The inclusion of this certain word is
used to set the tone of the poem as dark and gloomy and obtain the readers interest. Another method
used by Hall to convey the theme of death was through imagery. The entire second stanza is a
description of the pilot s skeleton strapped within the crashed plane. Having such a graphic image
portrayed, Hall is able to essentially shock his reader with the gruesomeness that death produces. One
of the last things the reader may decipher from this poem is that life, just like war, is a trap. Within the
third stanza, the pilot is said to be taking a train to work and is held/ by the firm webbing of the train.
The webbing infers that the pilot, although not trapped in his plane, is trapped in the roles put forth by
society. Throughout Halls poem, many different ideas and topics can be deduced but the uncertainty of
life and death stands out as the main focal point. To emphasize the fragileness of life and death, Hall
begins the poem with a story of death and in the last stanza switches his perspective to the possible life
the pilot could have had if he survived. A topic vaguely brought up in this poem would be

Istanbul the Summit Declaration and the Bosporus Statement giving birth to the Black Sea Economic
Cooperation (BSEC). It came into existence as a unique and promising model of multilateral, political,
and economic initiative aimed at fostering interaction and harmony among the Member States. The
Economic Cooperation also wanted to ensure peace, stability and prosperity encouraging friendly and
good neighborly relations in the Black Sea region. While The Black Sea Economic Cooperation was
placed into existence in 1992, it was not till 1994 that the headquarters for the BSEC came into place.
The Permanent International Secretariat of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation
became known as the BSEC headquarters. On May 1, 1999, the BSEC acquired international legal
identity and was transformed into a full fledged regional economic organization: Organization of the
Black Sea Cooperation. The BSEC stretched out their wings out for one more country. On April 2004,
Serbia was the twelfth member added to the organization. The BSEC spans two continents and
represents a region of about 350 million people. It also covers a geography encompassing the
territories of the Black Sea littoral States, the Balkans and the Caucasus with an area of nearly 20
million square kilometers. As

Mass Migration and Sharing Economy
Mass migration to Europe and its positive and negative implications
Sharing economy
Introduction
The hotel industry has been strongly growing recently, overcame many events to make us believe that
they will not stop adapting to the new environments. Practicing economics activities helps the industry
to explain the change of the environment and plan the solutions in the most efficient way. In this
report, I will state two of the most recent events which are the mass migration to Europe and also with
the term sharing economy, together with its impacts to the hotel industry under economic perspective.

If we will not be able to prevent and stop crimes, tourism will be affected since people are avoiding
traveling in the area, then the hospitality will be influenced. Sharing economy and its impacts
The term explanation
Appeared in the early 2000s and becoming a global phenomenon recently, the term
sharing economy (also referred as collaborative consumption) is a hybrid market model, defined as the
peer to peer based activity of obtaining, giving, or sharing the access to goods and services,
coordinated through community based online services (Hamari, 2015).
In a simple explication, it allows everyone to become retailers, make money from their underused
assets for example renting house or car, etc.
Airbnb and its impacts in hospitality
The most genuine way to illustrate the sharing economy type of business is Airbnb (Schor,
2014). Founded in 2008; Airbnb is a website for connecting people who has underused properties for
rent and people who are looking for a place for vacation rental. The Hotel
News Now website (2014) also gave a compliment that Airbnb rises unstoppable with online booking
net with exponential annual growth, and would usurp the InterContinental Hotels
Group and Hilton Worldwide as the world s largest hotel chain without owning a single hotel (Strong,
2015). Why it received many interesting by the travelers? This was a brand new concept in 2008, the
time when people would consider more when spending

Analysis Of Between The World And Me,
In Ta Nehisi Coates s Between the World and Me, Coates seeks to educate his young son and in turn
the reader of his experience as an African American man in the United States. In this, racism becomes
a very prominent and complex theme. In some way racism impacted every facet of his life. The novel
highlights the drastic difference in the ability for curiosity and personal development and questioning
in his public education in a poor area versus his continued education at Howard University a
historically black private college. What was the main cause of these extremely different experiences,
socioeconomics, institutional culture, educational style?
Coates spent his childhood years in a poor Baltimore public school, a system that mostly meant
always packing an extra number 2 pencil and working quietly (Coates 25). He grew up believing that
The world had no time for the childhoods of black boys and girls (Coates 25). School was not to him a
place of education but rather an institution whose purpose was to train the students to obey and
conform. Algebra, Biology, and english were not subjects so much as opportunities to better discipline
the body (Coates 25). In many low income public schools education seems to fall through the cracks.
The curriculum meets the basic requirements but lacks the space for the kids to find personal passions,
to be curious about what they want to know and believe. Coastes s childhood education was not one of
discovery, rather it was

Ankle Injury Research Paper
Life is never predictable. One minute you are on top of the world and the next it can turn on you in a
snap of a finger. Just like when I sprained my ankle while playing volleyball. One minute I was
playing my best and the next I end up hearing a snap in my ankle and ending up on the floor. Having
an injury and being in a sport can be one of the hardest thing an athlete can go through. It can be very
painful and take months for the fracture to heal. In my essay I will be talking about what an ankle
sprain is, how I sprained my ankle and recovered from it and how it has affected my ankle today.
Fracturing any bone or ligament in the body can be one of the most painful thing a person can go
through. Whether it is a minor fracture or a more serious fracture, it can be really painful. A sprain in
the ankle can be one of the toughest injury in most sports. An ankle sprain is an injury to the ligaments

Even though my ankle was healed and I was able to walk on it, it would still hurt while playing sports.
I played basketball and volleyball after my ankle sprain and it affected my performance. When I went
back to volleyball I had to wear an ankle brace to support my ankle from twitting again and jumping
or doing any fast movement would hurt my ankle. In basketball my ankle would hurt even more
because I would constantly be running up and down and would do very fast movements that brought a
lot of pain to my ankle and that has affected it today. The way I have noticed that my ankle was
affected by the sprain was when it gets cold, my ankle starts aching and if I walk for too long it hurts
as well and I have to rest it so that I can feel better. As well as when I wear high heels, I cannot be in
them for so long because again my ankle starts to ache. Spraining my ankle has affected me because
of the pain I get from it whenever I apply too much pressure on

My Symbols Of My Life
When you are going through a tough time and having many problems, remember this story. It is
refreshing to sometimes remember that whatever our problem is, there are people in the world that
wish that they have our problems. I aspire to be just like my sister, Erika, for her optimism, everlasting
joy, and determination. No matter what life through at her she always remained happy. Erika is my
symbol of everything I want to be. Erika was born in Rome, Italy just like me in 1986. She lived in
Italy for the majority of her life and enjoyed many things. Such as Italian cuisine, dancing, blogging,
exploring, and spending time with her friends. She loved horses and her favorite color is purple. Erika
was born with spina bifida. Spina bifida is a condition of the spine where it doesn t develop fully or
properly in the womb. Erika was wheel chair bound by the time she was two or three. This didn t hold
her back. Erika went through over twenty five surgeries in her lifetime. She was often in pain and
needed a caretaker, family, or friend to help with every day care and needs. I moved from Rome when
I was about four years old to the United States. Throughout my life in America I took about five
pleasure trips to Italy to visit family including Erika. She moved from Italy when I was about fourteen
years old to live to be more involved in my life and to be with our mother. My sister was determined
to conquer this life given to her. Erika did many of things to be as independent as

Boston from 1850 to 1900 Essay
Brandee Meyer
Boston from 1850 1900 There was no time in Boston that was most emphasized, than the 1850 s to
1900 s. In the city of Boston there were a lot of changes that had occurred between the second half of
the 19th century, not only with the city but also with the people living in Boston. Boston has always
been changing and in transition.
Boston had changed majorly from being the merchant city to the industrial metropolis. The population

It was the same with the omnibus that was created in 1826, because it moved slowly and didn t hold
many people. The steam railroad was another form of transportation that was introduced in 1835 and it
was a better form of transportation because it moved quicker and could hold many more passengers,
but it was also expensive and didn t always take the people to where they wanted to go because it didn
t stop very often, and only went one route.
There were land changes that occurred during the second half of the 19th century such as the South
End and the Back Bay. The South End was almost entirely taken up by houses in 1880 and then went
to the Back Bay that was almost completely taken up by houses in 1900. Only the rich could afford to
live on these pieces of land, because they were so expensive. Street railways were created and they
were the most aggressive expansion in the 19th century. From the 1880 s to the 1890 s street railways
took up at least six miles from City Hall in Boston. The service of the first railway began in 1852. The
first street railway in Boston would go between Harvard Square, Cambridge, Summerville, and Union
Square. The increase in the street railway brought excitement for the entrepreneur s as well in other
cities in America. Eventually the street railways replaced the omnibus s that were already running

Albert Bandura s Theory Of Learning And Development
Social learning theory proposed by Albert Bandura has become the most influential theory of learning
and development. According to Bandura, people learn from each other through observation, imitation
and modeling. Social Learning theory explains human behavior in term of continuous reciprocal
interaction between cognitive, behavioral and environmental interaction. Bandura believed that direct
reinforcement could not account for all types of learning. While the behavioral theories of learning
suggested that all learning was the result of associations formed by conditioning, reinforcement, and
punishment, Bandura s social learning theory proposed that learning can also occur simply by
observing the actions of others. His theory added a social element, arguing that people can learn new
information and behaviors by watching other people. Known as observational learning (or modeling),
this type of learning can be used to explain a wide variety of behaviors.
Bandura explained:
Learning would be exceedingly laborious, not to mention hazardous, if people had to rely solely on
the effects of their own actions to inform them what to do. Fortunately, ... Show more content on

Long Term Memory
Each item on the quiz corresponded to an individual slide that was presented, but all the questions on
the quiz were in random order. This was done to measure how much information was retained by the
subjects short term memory. One week later, the exact same quiz was administered again to the same
sample of students. This time, however, the test looked to see how much information students recalled
in terms of long term memory.
Since the researchers defined remembrance as an increase in retention test performance of one item or
more from the short term to long term retention test (Farley and Grant, 1976, p. 149), they found that
people did recall more information and forgot less if they were exposed to the colorful slides. The

ABSTRACT
Reading this paper will give you a better understanding of what causes a tornado and the shear
destructive power of tornadoes. It will also touch on some of the safety precaution involved in a
tornado from sirens to getting to safety. So what does cause a tornado and the effect they have?

WHAT CAUSES A TORNADO AND THE EFFECT THEY HAVE
First the public is taught to recognize the environmental clues such as dark, often greenish sky, wall
clouds, large hail, and loud roaring sound like a train. The National Weather Service broadcasts
watches and warnings for tornadoes as well as for thunderstorms. The civil defense sirens are sounded
at night in conjuction with the warnings when everyone is asleep because they may not aware of the
watches or warnings, if the town has them.
Some other effects of these monsters are that people loose their houses and properties and for some
without insurance it is total devastation. There are many effects due to tornadoes and way too many to
go into on this short paper.
WHAT CAUSES A TORNADO AND THE EFFECT THEY HAVE
CONCLUSION
The effects of tornadoes are slight to major destruction and the cost can be very high up to the loss of
life. Prepare yourself, have a plan to escape to safety. If you are in a tornado prone area then you
might want to get a weather radio that has a siren to warn of impending activity.

Essay about A Feminist Reading of Cheever’s The...
A Feminist Reading of The Five Forty Eight
The short story The Five Forty Eight by John Cheever concerns the issue of a woman scorned by the
inhumane treatment she has received by men, most notably that of Blake, whose oppression serves as
the turning point in her life. This generalization is often the focus of a feminist criticism. Feminists
believe that women should have equal rights as men, and they seek to correct or supplement what they
regard as a predominantly male dominated critical perspective with a feminist consciousness (Meyer
2014). In this short story, using a feminist consciousness to read the text helps to understand the
reasoning behind Miss Dent s need to defeat the idea that males dominate over women. Miss ... Show

The next day, as soon as Miss Dent was out to lunch, he called personnel and asked them to fire her.
Then he took the afternoon off (81). Blake is too much of a guilty coward to face Miss Dent after their
affairs the night before. To rid himself of his newest problem, he simply fires her although he does not
have the guts to fire her himself. As a direct result of the hurt and scorn Miss Dent has experienced
throughout her life, mainly at the hands of Blake, she is permanently troubled. While confronting
Blake she tells him, you don t know what I ve been through. I m afraid to go out in the daylight (88).
Miss Dent s experience with a monster such as Blake has left her extremely insecure and hurt.
Blake is not alone in causing Miss Dent s destruction; although, in this story he is a stereotype of all
the men in her life who have treated her the same hurtful way. Miss Dent views Blake just like every
other man in her life. Blake acknowledges the fact that he is like all men because on the train he
noticed that he dressed like the rest of [them] as if he admitted to the existence of the sumptuary laws
(82). Every man on the train, with the exception of a few, dresses the same, in non colorful clothes.

Differences Between The North And South Of The World
Inequality, a topic that I believe runs through the centre of Geography, dominates both the UK, and the
entire world. In the UK, numerous economic, cultural and political factors divide the North from the
South. To name a few: there is a missing year of life expectancy north of the line, children south of the
line are much more likely to attend Russell group universities, house prices have recently soared in the
South, and politically, the South tend to vote conservative, while the North vote labour. Similar
geographical concerns are occurring on an international level. In my opinion, this divide between the
North and South of the world is being exacerbated by globalisation. Although this is the belief that
countries are becoming too similar, due to a decrease in cultural differences, I believe it is leading to
even larger economic differences. Through my reading of Globalization by Joseph Stiglitz, it is clear
that me and him have the same view. He explains that despite constant promises of reducing poverty
made over the last decade, the actual number of people living in poverty has increased by almost 100
million. This occurred at the same time that total world income actually increased by an average of 2.5
percent annually. Stiglitz explains that the benefits of globalisation have been less than its advocates
claim, and that the price paid has been greater. The environment has been destroyed, political
processes have been corrupted, and the rapid pace of change has not

The Controversial Theory Of Evolution
The controversial theory of evolution has been prevalent in the minds of scientists, religious leaders,
and those who follow since Charles Darwin and Alfred Russel Wallace first made the ideas officially
known in 1858. The theory they proposed was that the universe and all organisms within it is
constantly changing and adapting to the world around them since the beginning of time. Since Darwin
s and Wallace s theories were shared, there has been constant disagreement and debate between the
science world and the religious world regarding evolution. Some science and religious advocates
agree that there is the possibility of both the scientific and religious beliefs on how the world came
about co exiting. However, some religious groups, like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the many examples that support this idea that organisms evolve and change over time is the
finding of the Tiktaalik; though it is an unknown species it has traits that are similar to reptiles,
amphibians, and birds that exist today. Because of fossil findings like the Tiktaalik scientists no longer
have doubts about evolution and it s continuing occurrence (Alberto 2008).
In the 20th century, with the development of the science of genetics biologists began understanding
the mechanics of how traits are passed down to different generations and how they are altered through
the discovery of DNA and its major importance. They learned that parts of DNA from each parent are
passed down to the offspring. Mutations of DNA, which cause alterations of species, can also occur
when traits are being passed down to the offspring. Mutations in DNA can cause the offspring to have
difficulties surviving and eventually lead to the extinction of the species. On the other hand, mutation
of DNA can affect the offspring positively and change its traits to be stronger and a better survivor in
that certain environment which would eventually lead to a growth in population of the certain species.
Mutations in DNA can also be neutral and have no effect of the offspring s traits. This battle with
nature and survival through DNA lead to the foundation of the idea of Natural Selection (Alberto
2008). Natural selection is survival of the fittest , the

  • 2. Ruslana Korshunova Suicide Term Paper: Suicide Analysis of Ruslana Korshunova Amanda N. Martin Gallaudet University One of the largest known social problems of modern times affecting mankind one way or another is suicide. It has become everyday news within the media reporting someone who has committed suicide for various reasons. Though every suicide has its own story, the most common reasons are related to a possible result of relationship failure, financial difficulties, and someone suffering from a mental illness such as depression. While suicide is frequently associated to bullied teens, it is also affecting those that are viewed by society as having lavish lifestyles, or the life many average citizens aspire to live. More celebrities are committing suicide as a way out of financial difficulties, alcohol or substance abuse disorders, and as previously mentioned, depression. Upon researching multiple celebrities who have attempted and/or successfully committed suicide, there was one popular figure that caught my attention and encouraged me to complete further research on her suicide. This particular individual was known in the modeling industry as the Russian Rapunzel and having great wells of beauty . Ruslana Korshunova had the life that many twenty year old girls fantasized about. The society craved model, Ruslana, worked for some of the world s highly coveted top designers and traveled to places like Milan, London, and Paris. • 3. The Reefs And Its Effects On The Coral Reefs Puerto Rico is built from a volcano. So along the coast of Puerto Rico, there are many coral reefs. This island I chose to look at, is called Desecheo Island or Isla de Desecheo. It s just of the coast of Puerto Rico. The coral reefs in the island are continental reefs according to geomorphologists( people who study physical features of the Earth s surface). It is a fringing reef around the coast of the island and a shelf reef beyond that. In the fringing reef, the depth of the reef is mixed between shallow and deep. When it gets near the shelf reef areas, the depth gets deeper. The coastal averages is about 80 degrees fahrenheit with high density. The biodiversity is very high in coral reefs. A coral reef takes about one percent of the ocean, but it has around twentyfive percent marine life. This means a lot to the coral reefs because the more species can lead to better conditions. There are many different kinds of fish that may eat algae, which can protect the coral. Bigger fish or even sharks keep the population of smaller fish in good hands. Some fish can hurt the zooxanthellae. Then there are cleaners that eat up dead organisms and keep the reef look nice. Economically, the coral reefs are very good. Fisherman can fish and tourist love to go snorkeling in coral reefs. However, that isn t always that great for the coral reef itself. Coral reefs provide people with food, medicine, and tons of revenue. Abiotic factors that are necessary for a coral reef are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Short Essay On Robert Moses Immediately after the Second World War, Robert Moses power increased exponentially. He then, got a control over city s housing authority. Huge amount of money was spent by the federal government on the public housing and low income housing. This money was spent in New York at the command of Robert Moses. Up to that point Moses had been building mostly parks and bridges, now, he was going to build inside the city. No one could have predicted the magnitude of explosion that would overtake New York. Moses demanded to be the construction co ordinater. The construction co ordinater has to represent the city in all its dealing with federal government. And therefore, he got a control over public housing and federal money. In the end of the year 1948, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After the war, every one realized the need of good arterial routes through the cities. Soon after that, Moses planned to ram six expressways right across the heart of New York. Amongst all the federal projects under his control, none of them had more devastating consequences for the city and its people. The Cross Bronx expressway of 225 foot wide concrete and 7 miles long destructed the city in such a way that New Yorkers would never forget. This expressway crossed around 12 to 15 different neighbourhoods and was built in a straight line without thinking that who are the people living in these neighbourhoods. People here worked, capped up their properties, and did business where they lived. It was culturally and materially self sufficient world. People were forced to evacuate their homes within ninety days. One after another, Robert Moses rammed one expressway after another upending the lives of more than a quarter of a million people. In 1962 Jane Jacobs, a resident of the town became the chairman of the Joint Committee to Stop the Lower Manhattan Expressway, in reaction to Moses plans to build a highway through Manhattan s Washington Square Park and West Village. Her efforts to stop the expressway led to her arrest during a demonstration in 1968, and the campaign is often considered one of the turning points in the development of New York City. Moses had previously pushed through ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Both bands are also part of a successful tour known as the Big Four of Thrash. The Big Four, comprising of the bands Anthrax, Megadeth, Slayer and Metallica are called the Big Four because of the influence that they have had on almost every metal act that succeeded them. They are also credited with bringing the genre of thrash metal to the forefront of the metal scene (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php? term=Big%20Four%20of%20Thrash). • 7. The Pros And Cons Of An Autonomous Car Whether it is in a laboratory, boardroom, the halls of Congress, or at the precipice of a perilous situation, weighing the value of one life versus another and making life and death decisions is an excruciating process with no easy answers (Kaplan, 2016). Nonetheless, as the discussion about autonomous cars and the ethical dilemmas they present rages on, I find it interesting that we are insistent upon imposing higher moral and ethical standards on the programming and decision making abilities of an autonomous car than human drivers (Parnell, 2016). Moreover, as we look to do so, we are also departing from the ethical philosophy that has been utilized for many years to pioneer many of the safety features, laws, and regulations to enhance automobile ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, there was little discussion about the significant consequences associated with the human driver s split second decision (Lin, n.d.). Moreover, when humans are compelled to instinctually react to life threatening stimuli, their decisions are primarily driven by self preservation rather than a cognitive moral philosophy (Taflinger, 1996). As a result, I believe the deontology should be the moral philosophy utilized to address the moral dilemmas associated with autonomous cars. Subsequently, manufacturers, scholars, and law makers should gather data assessing how most humans would react in these scenarios and write code for autonomous vehicles to respond in a similar manner in these excruciatingly painful scenarios. Additionally, utilizing an deontological moral philosophy would also enable auto manufacturers and law makers to continue to leverage the same moral philosophy they have utilized for the past 50 years, as well as the data from past crash tests and experiences to innovate and regulate automobile safety features, such as, seat belts, crumple zones, anti locking brakes, air bags, and automatic emergency braking systems given that each of these safety systems were designed to protect the passengers inside the vehicle (Rynkiewicz, 2015). Consequently, enabling consumers to reap the many other safety benefits of autonomous vehicles, while having a clear understanding that when faced with a split second perilous decision, the vehicle will mirror the instinctual actions of a human driver, utilize deontological moral philosophy, and attempt to safeguard the lives of the car s ... The novel shows evidence that proves dysfunctional in a relationship such as husband and wife relations, a child and a mother relations or relations between two sisters who live a different life. In everyday life, a relation is always identified as trust and support. In this novel, a relation between a husband and a wife is shown in a different way. The only problem was they did not know where he was. But being Min s only sister, she decides not to give up. To her, the only thing that mattered was travelling. Their Journey begins from North Dakota where they had to stay at scary motels, meet hippies and avoid scary noises coming from their van. Hattie survived with this just for her sister. Just like Min threw Cherkis out of her life. She didn t want her sister to interfere either. She ignored and stayed away from her. Last, a relationship between a Mother and her children which is always memorable. In this novel, the author tried reversing the role of a mother and two children. Thebes and Logan are shown taking care of Min. Thebes who is eleven year old is described as a purple haired, dirty street girl. Despite being her daughter, she tries to help her as much as possible. But how much can eleven year and fifteen year old children do? They then decide to give up and send her to a Psychiatric hospital and inform Hattie about it. Operas of Mozart Don Giovanni Essay Donna Anna, Donna Elvira Zerlino Mozart s Don Giovanni The choice of the Three women of Don Giovanni can give a good understanding of the type of music which was used to create an opera in the 18th century Italy. The opera buffa was a comic opera with a funny story line and light music. Mozart wrote at different levels. In order to have full understanding of the women s roles, it is necessary to understand the social context of women in the 18 century. In Kristi Brown s Mozart s Women she compared Donna Anna to a misfortunate Spanish maiden. It was very common for composers to take the style of where they were living at the time and write in that genre of music. Donna Anna was daughter who was to be married. The role was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His wife would forgive him for his philander with servant girls but not with educated or artistic (Stafford 119) (Paumgartner, Mozart, 273). As this showed the sexual freedom of the 18th century Italy, it was quite common to have extra marital affairs for both men and women. Discretion was the only rule that was demanded by the upper society to which Don Giovanni never adhered. Donna Elvira had a love hate relationship with him. He would not have been able to access her rooms. Donna Anna would have had a waiting room with a man servant or her lady in waiting attending to her. It would have been highly unlikely that she, who had a fiancé, put herself in a position of having truly been violated. This is where Mozart is making the point of a woman having to put on social graces. Donna Anna shows her intelligence in her coming down in a fury and singing in the duet with Don Octavio how she wants revenge . (Act I) It was not a physical affront, it was an affront to her intellectual dignity that he should be able to reach her inner sanctuary. In a more symbolic interpretation, perhaps Mozart was doubting Donna Anna as a bride or maybe the opposite. Mozart liked a strong, intelligent woman who set the rules. • 10. Agendas, Alternatives, And Public Policy Author John Kingdon s book entitled Agendas, Alternatives, and Public Policy takes at look at Policy issues and examines how these policy issues became issues to begin with. Kingdon starts his book by looking into how policy issues come to the government s attention. He expresses to his readers that problems get identified when we focus on certain events or changes. Policy is taken over by researchers and bureaucrats, and the political aspect is dominated by members of the government. When these three come together, Problems, Policy and Politics, issues get on the decision agenda. In the first chapter of his book, Kingdon explains the point of his writing. He wants his readers to know why and how certain issues come to and overtake the government and decision agenda. He explains the difference between issues and alternatives. Issues are the vast areas of concern whereas alternatives are the specific ideas that could be implemented. He also makes a distinction between the government agenda and decision agenda. The government agenda includes subjects that people involved in government are aware of. The decision agenda only includes specific issues. These issues are made to discuss and take action on. Kingdon begins by examining the importance of various actors within the government. The actors in the administration include the President, Executive Office Staff, and Political Appointees. Nor is the aim of this paper to prove the English were right in claiming sovereignty over Australian land, since there is much proof they hadn t even been the first Europeans to meet with terra nullius . Nevertheless, as history speaks for itself, there s clear evidence Aboriginal people endured immense changes during colonization years, on the land where they stood, cultures unshaken, for thousands of years, before Europe had a say in that. Indeed, what we aim for is to examine some ideas perpetrated along the years in regards to the devastating effects that emerged once the first ship of colonizers arrived. We ve had this debate about Australia was a terra nullius and it was a wasted landscape and people hadn t used it and hadn t farmed it. They ve discovered that it probably supported 1.6 bilion lives and that s how productive Aboriginal people were able to make this part of the Earth which has the most irregular and unreliable rain fall and the driest continent on Earth. • 20. The Man In The Dead Machine Summary In the poem The Man in the Dead Machine, Donald Hall uses vivid imagery and alternative scenarios to emphasize the sheer overwhelming specter of death that loomed over those serving in the greatest conflict known to man. The hook that Hall uses to initially provoke the readers interest is the mentioning of the Grumman Hellcat, a fighter plane used by Americans in World War II. Specifying the model of the fighter plane allows the reader to be knowledgeable about the setting of the poem. Located within the title, the word dead is used to describe the machine. Being dead is the ultimate end of a life and that uncertainty of death sparks fear among many people. The inclusion of this certain word is used to set the tone of the poem as dark and gloomy and obtain the readers interest. Another method used by Hall to convey the theme of death was through imagery. The entire second stanza is a description of the pilot s skeleton strapped within the crashed plane. Having such a graphic image portrayed, Hall is able to essentially shock his reader with the gruesomeness that death produces. One of the last things the reader may decipher from this poem is that life, just like war, is a trap. Within the third stanza, the pilot is said to be taking a train to work and is held/ by the firm webbing of the train. The webbing infers that the pilot, although not trapped in his plane, is trapped in the roles put forth by society. Throughout Halls poem, many different ideas and topics can be deduced but the uncertainty of life and death stands out as the main focal point. To emphasize the fragileness of life and death, Hall begins the poem with a story of death and in the last stanza switches his perspective to the possible life the pilot could have had if he survived. Analysis Of Between The World And Me, In Ta Nehisi Coates s Between the World and Me, Coates seeks to educate his young son and in turn the reader of his experience as an African American man in the United States. In this, racism becomes a very prominent and complex theme. In some way racism impacted every facet of his life. The novel highlights the drastic difference in the ability for curiosity and personal development and questioning in his public education in a poor area versus his continued education at Howard University a historically black private college. What was the main cause of these extremely different experiences, socioeconomics, institutional culture, educational style? Coates spent his childhood years in a poor Baltimore public school, a system that mostly meant always packing an extra number 2 pencil and working quietly (Coates 25). He grew up believing that The world had no time for the childhoods of black boys and girls (Coates 25). School was not to him a place of education but rather an institution whose purpose was to train the students to obey and conform. Algebra, Biology, and english were not subjects so much as opportunities to better discipline the body (Coates 25). In many low income public schools education seems to fall through the cracks. While the behavioral theories of learning suggested that all learning was the result of associations formed by conditioning, reinforcement, and punishment, Bandura s social learning theory proposed that learning can also occur simply by observing the actions of others. His theory added a social element, arguing that people can learn new information and behaviors by watching other people. Since the researchers defined remembrance as an increase in retention test performance of one item or more from the short term to long term retention test (Farley and Grant, 1976, p. 149), they found that people did recall more information and forgot less if they were exposed to the colorful slides. The National Weather Service broadcasts watches and warnings for tornadoes as well as for thunderstorms. The civil defense sirens are sounded at night in conjuction with the warnings when everyone is asleep because they may not aware of the watches or warnings, if the town has them. Some other effects of these monsters are that people loose their houses and properties and for some without insurance it is total devastation. • 35. Essay about A Feminist Reading of Cheever’s The... A Feminist Reading of The Five Forty Eight The short story The Five Forty Eight by John Cheever concerns the issue of a woman scorned by the inhumane treatment she has received by men, most notably that of Blake, whose oppression serves as the turning point in her life. This generalization is often the focus of a feminist criticism. Feminists believe that women should have equal rights as men, and they seek to correct or supplement what they regard as a predominantly male dominated critical perspective with a feminist consciousness (Meyer 2014). In this short story, using a feminist consciousness to read the text helps to understand the reasoning behind Miss Dent s need to defeat the idea that males dominate over women. Miss ... Blake is too much of a guilty coward to face Miss Dent after their affairs the night before. To rid himself of his newest problem, he simply fires her although he does not have the guts to fire her himself. As a direct result of the hurt and scorn Miss Dent has experienced throughout her life, mainly at the hands of Blake, she is permanently troubled. While confronting Blake she tells him, you don t know what I ve been through. I m afraid to go out in the daylight (88). Miss Dent s experience with a monster such as Blake has left her extremely insecure and hurt. Blake is not alone in causing Miss Dent s destruction; although, in this story he is a stereotype of all the men in her life who have treated her the same hurtful way. Miss Dent views Blake just like every other man in her life. Blake acknowledges the fact that he is like all men because on the train he noticed that he dressed like the rest of [them] as if he admitted to the existence of the sumptuary laws (82). Every man on the train, with the exception of a few, dresses the same, in non colorful clothes. The sumptuary laws refer to the Roman laws that regulate the type of clothes worn in public. • 36. Equal Employment Opportunity Laws Research Paper Equal Employment Opportunity Laws has changed the way of organizations and businesses recruitment, hire process, retention and even the behavior in the working environment. These changes have been implementing due to the increasing rate of women, pregnancy women, and people with different ages, religion, race, sexual orientation or ethnic backgrounds. Over the past years, Pregnancy Discrimination Act is the most controversial and often violated EEO laws. As the article I read from the New York Times newspaper, the title of Pregnant Officer Denied Chance to Take Sergeant s Exam Fights Back . It informs us a story of the unlawful discrimination against Police Officer Akema Thompson. Police Officer Thompson was registered for the sergeant s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Differences Between The North And South Of The World Inequality, a topic that I believe runs through the centre of Geography, dominates both the UK, and the entire world. In the UK, numerous economic, cultural and political factors divide the North from the South. To name a few: there is a missing year of life expectancy north of the line, children south of the line are much more likely to attend Russell group universities, house prices have recently soared in the South, and politically, the South tend to vote conservative, while the North vote labour. Similar geographical concerns are occurring on an international level. In my opinion, this divide between the North and South of the world is being exacerbated by globalisation. Although this is the belief that countries are becoming too similar, due to a decrease in cultural differences, I believe it is leading to even larger economic differences. Through my reading of Globalization by Joseph Stiglitz, it is clear that me and him have the same view. He explains that despite constant promises of reducing poverty made over the last decade, the actual number of people living in poverty has increased by almost 100 million. This occurred at the same time that total world income actually increased by an average of 2.5 percent annually. Stiglitz explains that the benefits of globalisation have been less than its advocates claim, and that the price paid has been greater. The environment has been destroyed, political processes have been corrupted, and the rapid pace of change has not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. The Controversial Theory Of Evolution The controversial theory of evolution has been prevalent in the minds of scientists, religious leaders, and those who follow since Charles Darwin and Alfred Russel Wallace first made the ideas officially known in 1858. The theory they proposed was that the universe and all organisms within it is constantly changing and adapting to the world around them since the beginning of time. Since Darwin s and Wallace s theories were shared, there has been constant disagreement and debate between the science world and the religious world regarding evolution. Some science and religious advocates agree that there is the possibility of both the scientific and religious beliefs on how the world came about co exiting. However, some religious groups, like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the many examples that support this idea that organisms evolve and change over time is the finding of the Tiktaalik; though it is an unknown species it has traits that are similar to reptiles, amphibians, and birds that exist today. Because of fossil findings like the Tiktaalik scientists no longer have doubts about evolution and it s continuing occurrence (Alberto 2008). In the 20th century, with the development of the science of genetics biologists began understanding the mechanics of how traits are passed down to different generations and how they are altered through the discovery of DNA and its major importance. They learned that parts of DNA from each parent are passed down to the offspring. Mutations of DNA, which cause alterations of species, can also occur when traits are being passed down to the offspring. Mutations in DNA can cause the offspring to have difficulties surviving and eventually lead to the extinction of the species. On the other hand, mutation of DNA can affect the offspring positively and change its traits to be stronger and a better survivor in that certain environment which would eventually lead to a growth in population of the certain species. Mutations in DNA can also be neutral and have no effect of the offspring s traits. This battle with nature and survival through DNA lead to the foundation of the idea of Natural Selection (Alberto 2008). Natural selection is survival of the fittest , the ...
