Sweetness and Power Essays
Sweetness and Power Sweetness and Power: The Place of Sugar in Modern History
Some of the most brilliant minds have made many unorthodox suggestions. This is the case with
Sidney Mintz s thesis in Sweetness and Power: The Place of Modern History. Mintz s suggestions
that industrial capitalism originated in the Caribbean sugar plantations may seem to contradict the
European version of world history fed to most of the Western world, but is nevertheless supported
by substantial evidence. In general, Western education has conditioned students to believe that
everything productive originated in Europe.
Mintz begins by explaining the process of obtaining granular sugar from the liquid extracted from
the sugar cane. There was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similar to factory workers, cheap labor was used for mass production of commodities to meet the
growing demand.
As a result, Mintz completely transformed my ideas on industrial capitalism. As a consumer and
lover of sugar, I have now given a considerable amount of thought to the sugar that I consumed so
often. The extent to which the Caribbean people and land were exploited is unfathomable. When
speaking of a plantation , Americans usually think and refer to the cotton plantations in the South.
Even those Americans with roots in the Caribbean are completely unaware of the exploitation of
their land and people. The long term effects of this exploitation led to the underdevelopment of
these Caribbean countries. These effects are still evident today as most of the Caribbean islands
are labeled as Third World Countries .
In addition, Mintz mentions the separation of the production from consumption. The Major
consumers of sugar were not the hard workers on the plantation, but the far removed citizens of
England. The plantation workers were not able to profit from the fruit of

Summary Of Night By Elie Wiesel

Essay on Night Have you ever had to make an instant decision that would significantly impact your
life?
I certainly had to make some quick decisions and I m sure you as well had to make some impactful
choices. This is exactly what Elie Wiesel was forced to do when it came down to a life or death
situation. There are 3 decisions that I had come across that I thought would be important if I was
in Elie s position to make a sacrificial or crucial decisions that would determine the outcome of
your life or others. One of them is lying about ages. Another is Escaping or staying in camp. The
last one is making a wise choice to eat. Let s begin with the ages.
One of the decisions Elie had to make was when an inmate was yelling at Elie asking how old he
was. The inmate was telling Elie and his father to lie about their ages to the officers so that they
would not be killed. Elie, 15 and Shlomo, 50 had to lie about their ages by saying they were 18 and
40 so that they would be able to stay in the camps and not be sent to the crematorium. Elie had to
make a fast decision that would be life or death and they chose the right thing to do by listening to
the inmate. For all we know, the inmate could ve been setting them up! Was that a wise choice for
them to do? Next, we have the Escape.
Another decision Elie had to make was when he said I had made up my mind to accompany my
father wherever he went (Wiesel 82). I feel that this is one of

Case Analysis Of Hulu
Introduction
For the past ten years, Hulu has been among the most competitive online streaming services.
Beginning as a joint venture created by 21st Century Fox and NBCUniversal to distribute their
television programming over the Internet, (Harvard 2017) Hulu has expanded generously, offering
the four largest broadcasting networks. In the wake of a new television era, Hulu has the potential to
serve as a Multichannel Video Programming Distributor (MVPD). The following write up includes
an analysis of Hulu s current market standings, including an investigation of growth statistics as
well as the company s overall marketing situation.

Although competition has begun delving into the realm of original programming, Netflix, Amazon,
and HBO have spent millions of dollars to create original content for their subscribers. Hulu should
have saved the money allocated to original programming and relied on the content created by the
entertainment giants that created it, 21st Century Fox and NBCUniversal. With live streaming
subscriptions available, Hulu has already differentiated itself from most of its direct competition.
They should have established a stronger position in the brand new market of alternative live
streaming rather than playing catch up in the well developed segment of original

A Person Of Any Intoxicating Material
The destruction of a person of any intoxicating material can result in such beautiful outcomes. The
human race has accepted their history and works because it is their own choice by recreational
intake, for productivity, and self medicating that has kept them alive for us to view their own life
and such mentality that some may learn from or even follow. Without the self induced madness and
without the people who tried self treating the psychiatric illnesses, we would not have the colorful
history of the talented people who influenced the world. The general perspective that is in mind
when drugs are presented, they are thought to be used recreationally(or for productivity),
traditionally, for spiritual/religious gratification or for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The effects show greatly in their works when it s either literature, music or physical (drawn or
sculpted) art. When taking uppers(cocaine, caffeine) and downers(tobacco, alcohol), the
outcomes vary distinctly. Uppers cause a frenzy of productivity along with creativity and
downers result in realistic works and more of the thought of darkness in the mentality that can be
identified. To distinct drugs from one another, a good key would be from determined classes,
subclasses and the short/long term effects they have. Another key would be if it is
psychologically or physically affecting the user, this would either be a mental high or pain relief.
Uppers, a class of drugs, cause a significant difference in heart rate, temperature and also some
audio/visual distortion. This class of drugs has several substances that are categorized by uses and
potent effect on the brain. Cannabis s (also known as an all arounder) treats are hallucination,
heightened emotions, causes hunger, creativity, and the occasional pain relief from the type of high
that can affect the physical aspects of the smoker. Another favorite would be Ecstasy that would
cause sensitivity of touch. This would

The Robert E. Lee Statue Should Be Removed
Why the Robert E. Lee Statue Should Be Removed Imagine your children living in a world full of
hatred, prejudice, and discrimination from their brothers and sisters of America. The ultimate
reality where a minority man or woman can t cross the street without feeling vulnerable or
concerned of an issue occurring because of who they are. I am telling you this because if we let
the Robert E. Leestatue remain standing, our world will become a dystopia of animosity and
bigotry with the support of White Supremacists and Neo Nazis. In the late 1800 s, President
Lincoln wanted to abolish slavery all throughout the United States, however, the South believed that
it was unconstitutional to eradicate slavery. Due to the disagreement about slavery between the
Union and the Confederates, they began the American Civil Warand endured the four years of
combat casualties on both sides, until the Union won and slavery was completely abolished.
Subsequently, many statues emerged in southern states honoring Confederate soldiers and leaders
that fought against the Union in the Civil War, such as the Robert E. Lee monument. With rich
history, like ours, we can see the evolution in our society and learn from our racial, degrading, and
dishonorable actions that has affected one to several millions of Americans. Although the Robert E.
Lee statue is a form of history, the statues need to be removed from the public property because of
the true representation behind the monument and the pain in remembering our infamous racial past.
To receive a statue in your name and have it placed in an area meant for recognition is an honor,
this is given for the highest respect and privilege to those who impacted the society positively and
fought for a change. The social and racial equality in America has progressed since the Civil War
and the space for bigotry and acrimony for other ethnicities is limited, the society now embraces a
broader meaning of diversity and equivalence with gender, sexuality, and ethnicity. In spite of that, a
man who believed and fought for the entitlement of slaves was honored with a statue of his own,
infamously named the Robert E. Lee statue. How can we let a representation of racial inequality
and discrimination

Sickle Cell Anemia Disease
What is Sickle Cell Anemia Disease?
Sickle Cell Anemia Disease is an inherited disease that turns healthy red blood cells (donut
shape) into abnormal sickle shaped red cells which affects people s hemoglobin (a red protein
responsible for transporting oxygen in the blood) (Naoum). This disease gets its name from the
shape of red blood cells under low oxygen condensation which becomes sickle shaped. These
sickle shaped cells get stuck in small blood vessels which causes people with this disease to have
oxygen blockage (fudge foundation). People inherit this disease from their parents, if both parents
have a trait of sickle cell anemia (people who inherit one sickle cell gene and one normal gene,
they have a 25 percent chance of having an unaffected ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is diagnosed by a blood test called hemoglobin electrophore that measures people abnormal
sickle hemoglobin. The amount of hemoglobin determines if a person has a sickle cell trait or
sickle cell disease (WebMD). If they do not have abnormal sickle hemoglobin they neither have
a sickle cell trait or disease. People who are affected by Sickle Cell Anemia crises (pain in your
bones) go through a lot of pain. They normally have chest pain, difficulty breathing, severe
infections and blood blockage. People who have Sickle Cell describe their pain in differently,
Tiffany who has Sickle Cells said, it s like repeatedly being stabbed by a butcher knife in the
same spot. Another lady Heather said. Her pain feels like someone is pouring glass in the same
spot into her veins and expecting her to keep living normal. Patients with this disease go through a
lot of pain and are not able to do anything about it because there are no cures for it. Pharmacist just
have medicine to manage their pain. Patients go to therapy, take vitamins, and get blood
transfusions and induction of hemoglobin to reduce their pain (WebMD). There are many more
medicines now, in today s time, to help people with their pain and people take medication

2.3 RCA
The Radio Corporation of America (RCA) was founded by GE in 1919 to further international

develop them during the Interwar period. Superchargers became indispensable in the years
immediately prior to World War II, and GE was the world leader in exhaust driven supercharging
when the war started. This experience, in turn, made GE a natural selection to develop the Whittle

The Effects Of Globalization On Contemporary And...
Globalization is the interaction among people, companies and governments of different nations. It
is a process that is driven by international trade and investment but, is also supported by information
technology (What is Globalization?). Large corporations have taken advantage of foreign markets
by building factories in less developed countries and through using established marketing
arrangements with foreign partners. A defining feature of globalization, therefore, is an
international, industrial and financial business structure (What is Globalization?). In this essay, I
am going to consider the effects of globalization on contemporary, developing and indigenous
cultures. This will include looking at both the negative effects as well as the benefits of
globalization on the world as a whole.
Globalization is profoundly controversial. Some people argue that this international change allows
poor countries and their citizens to develop economically and raise their standards of living. Others
claim that the creation of an international free market has only benefited multinational corporations
in the Western world at the expense of local enterprise and cultures and by the exploitation of less
developed countries (What is Globalization?).
Firstly, Globalization has had a large effect on contemporary culture. For example, technological
development is as a big part of globalization and has transformed many cultures from subsidence
farming to commercial farming, raising cash from

Chapter 21 (Repost): America and the Great War Who opposed U.S. involvement in World War
I and why? World War I began in Europe in 1914. Europe was divided as two competing
alliances, Central Powers (Britain, France, and Russia) and Triple Entente (Germany, Austro
Hungary, and Italy). On June 28, 1914, the two alliances started breaking apart. Archduke Franz
Ferdinand, the heir to the throne of the Austro Hungarian Empire, and his wife, Sophie, were
assassinated by a Serbian nationalist while visiting Sarajevo. Austria declared war on Serbia as a
result. This led to Russia defending Serbia. By August 3, Germany declared war on Russia and
France and invaded Belgium. Great Britain declared war on Germany. By then, Europe and a part

Hypersomnolence Disorder
Hypersomnolence is a condition in which a person has trouble staying awake during the day.
People who have [this disorder] can fall asleep at any time. They may also have other sleep related
problems, including a lack of energy and trouble thinking clearly(WEB). This disorder cuts back
individuals from socialization, work related demands, and other necessities. Hypersomnolence
disorder is where the person gets more sleep than necessary without getting reenergized and unable
to stay wide awake during the day.

A doctor will order some tests, including blood tests, computed tomography (CT) scans, and a sleep
test called polysomnography. In some cases, an additional electroencephalogram (EEG), which
measures the electrical activity of the brain, is needed. Once the doctor has diagnosed you with
hypersomnolence disorder your doctor can prescribe various drugs to treat it, including stimulants,
antidepressants, as well as several newer medications. Provigil and Xyrem are very popular
medications to control daytime sleepiness. Modafinil (Provigil) is considered to be the first line
activating agent for the treatment of excessive daytime sleepiness. The ideal treatment for
hypersomnolence is based upon the symptoms experienced. Stimulant medications, such as dose
controlled amphetamines, most often prescribed for ADHD, can be used to sustain alertness in
individuals with hypersomnolence. Several examples include d amphetamine, methylphenidateand
modafinil. Other drugs used to treat hypersomnolence include clonidine, levodopa, bromocriptine,
activating antidepressants, and monoamine oxidase inhibitors. Behavioral techniques can also be
helpful for regulating one s sleep schedule in ways that promote optimal day to day functioning. If
you are diagnosed with sleep apnea, your doctor may prescribe a treatment known as continuous
positive airway pressure, or CPAP. With CPAP, you wear a mask over your nose

Suboptimal Subsidiary Management Case Study
The concept of suboptimal subsidiary management (coded as SSM) includes 5 subcategories:
в—ЏSSM ULA: suboptimal subsidiary management because of unbalanced level of autonomy;
Birkinshaw et al. (2000) recognize the issues that arise from the gaps in perception of subsidiaries
roles by the subsidiary managers and the headquarters managers: subsidiaries overestimate their
strategic importance and desire greater level of autonomy while headquarters seek control. These
perception gaps have strong implications on the subsidiary management as the motives of HQ and
subsidiaries grow to conflict as the perception gaps increase. Birkinshaw et al. (2000) also notes

How Myringotomy Is A Surgical Procedure
Myringotomy is a surgical procedure in which a small incision is made in the eardrum (the
tympanic membrane), usually in both ears. The English word is derived from myringa, modern
Latin for drum membrane, and tome, Greek for cutting. It is also called myringocentesis,
tympanotomy, tympanostomy of the tympanic membrane. Fluid in the middle earcan be drawn out
through the incision. Ear tubes, or tympanostomy tubes, are small tubes open at both ends that are
inserted into the incisions in the eardrums during myringotomy. They come in various shapes and
sizes and are made of plastic, metal, or both. Eustachian tubeis a 35mm long auditory tube, functions
to connect the middle earto the upper pharynx. They are left in place until they fall out by
themselves or until they are removed by a doctor. Fluid collection that lasts longer than three
months and does not respond to drug treatment. This condition is also called glue ear. Myringotomy
is the recommended treatment if the condition lasts four to six months. Effusion refers to the
collection of fluid that escapes from blood vessels or the lymphatic system. In this case, the
effusion collects in the middle ear. Acute inflammation of the middle ear with effusion is treated
with one or two courses of antibiotics . Antihistamines and decongestants have been used, but they
have not been proven effective unless there is also hay fever or some other allergic inflammation
that contributes to the problem. Myringotomy with or

My Grandpa Research Paper
As my grandfather looked out into the dread filled ocean, it was then that he realised there was
no going back. Once he stepped foot onto that aircraft carrier he felt worried and feared he would
not come back. This was the only thing that my grandpa ever told me about his past in the Korean
War. However, it also got me intrigued in the United StatesArmed Forces. As he passed away, I just
wished I would have asked him about the stories he must of had about the warand friends he met

as a Gunner Mate sparked an interest in the military and what it had to offer.

The Interesting Industry of Japanese Whaling Essay
If I had one year to learn more about a topic of my choice, I would study about the Japanese whaling
industry. Although whale hunting in Japan began in the 12th century, Japan s involvement in the
whaling industry began in the 1890s. The international whaling industry functioned normally until
1925 when the League of Nations called for conservation measures in 1925. This eventually led to
the Geneva Convention for the Regulation of Whalingin 1931, which was ignored by Japan and
Germany. Instead, as whale catches diminished in coastal waters, Japanese whale hunters looked to
Antarctica. This started with the Japanese company Toyo Hogei K.K. purchasing the Norwegian
ship Antarctic, renaming it the Tonan Maru.

Japan joined the International Whaling Commission in 1951; however, Japan would later be
criticized by environmental organizations and anti whaling nations for making heavy use of Article
VIII of the International Convention for the Regulation of Whaling which states that
Notwithstanding anything contained in this Convention any Contracting Government may grant to
any of its nationals a special permit authorizing that national to kill, take and treat whales for
purposes of scientific research subject to such restrictions as to number and subject to such other
conditions as the Contracting Government thinks fit, and the killing, taking, and treating of whales
in accordance with the provisions of this Article shall be exempt from the operation of this
Convention.
As the commercial viability of large competing whaling fleets was diminished due to restrictions,
six Japanese whaling companies agreed to merge into one in July 1975. The government declared
support for the new company, with Prime Minister Shintaro Abe saying, We ask that the flame of
the whaling industry will not be put out and that you do your best to secure Japan s food supplies.
The government will be doing all it can to actively support your efforts. Eventually, the company
merged with the Japan Whaling Association and Institute of Cetacean Researchto create the
Institute of Cetacean Research in 1987.

When games are not taking place, the solar installations at the stadia will export energy onto the
power grid. During matches, the stadia will draw energy from the grid. This is the basis for the
stadiums carbon neutrality. Along with the stadiums, we plan to make the cooling technologies
we ve developed available to other countries in hot climates, so that they too can host major
sporting events. This method of cooling techniques is theoretically able to reduce temperatures
from 50 to 27 degrees Celsius. The bidding committee also proposes to use such cooling
technologies in fan zones, training pitches and walkways between metro stations and stadiums.
However, the architect in charge of one of the venues has abandoned their project claiming that a
more old fashioned solution would be cheaper and better. Leading firm Populous, which is
designing the Sports City stadium in Doha, is trying to persuade Qatari organizers to scrap plans
to have air conditioning at the venue. Populous director John Barrow said the system is too
expensive and notoriously unsustainable for the environment when used on a large scale. Given
the debate on the subject, a proposal of hosting a Winter World Cup has arisen. Backed by the likes
of Blatter and Platini, the proposal suggests for the tournament to be held in January of 2022, rather
than the summer. Blatter has told reporters Personally, now that the decision

Roles And Roles Of Women
The roles of gender are changing rapidly. Throughout U.S. history men have played dominant
roles and were always the family breadwinners. As women get more education and make more
money they are becoming the primarily breadwinners of their families. More women are
working outside the home and their earnings are important to the well being of their families.
What are the effect on their families, careers and equal wages? The days of mom staying at
home full time are long gone for most families. More women are their family s breadwinners
than ever before. Heather Boushey in The New Breadwinners, states Women are more likely to
work outside the home and their earning are more important to their families well being than
ever before in our nation s history (31). In families today there s no one staying at home in the
day, so there no one there when kids come home from school with everyday life. Boushey wrote,
nearly 4 in 10 mothers (39.3 percent) are primary breadwinners, bringing home the majority of
the family s earning and nearly two thirds (62.8percent) are breadwinners or co breadwinners
bringing home at least a quarter of the family earning. According to The New York Times, U.S.

Colberg s Theory Of Psychosexual Development
Introduction
The term development refers to change or growth that occurs in children. It starts with infancy and
continues to adulthood. A development theory concern with three things and it deal with change
over time. First, it should describe changes over time within an area or several areas of
development. Second, it should describe changes among areas of development. Third, it should
explain these changes. In developmental theory it focuses on abnormal behavior and later
researchers became increasingly interested in other topics including typical child development as
well as the influences on development. It is very important to understand the child development,
because it allows us to fully appreciate the cognitive, emotional, physical, social, and educational
growth that children go through from birth and into early adulthood. This essay will briefly ... Show

Freud s theory of psychosexual development is one of the wonderful theories and it is the first
theory found about human being. . Freud believed that personality develops like a series and it
starts from childhood. Early experiences play a large role in personality development and continue
to influence behavior later in life. Freud s Stages of Psychosexual Development are same like other

The Effects Of Living At Walden Essay
In 1854, Henry David Thoreau gave us what would become his most famous non fiction book,
Walden; or life in the Woods. In this, Thoreau describes his project at Walden Pond near
Concord, Massachusetts. Thoreau decided that he was going to live deliberately in the woods
for over two years and live off of a limited economy and isolate himself from society in order to
gain a more objective understanding of it. But one has to ask the question, what does Thoreau
mean that he wants to live deliberately ? Thoreau himself said that he wanted to live deliberately,
to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not,
when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. (Thoreau, 61) He wanted... Show more content on

The whole bank, which is from twenty to forty feet high, is sometimes overlaid with a mass of
this kind of foliage, or sandy rupture, for a quarter of a mile on one or both sides, the produce of

suddenly. When I see on the one side the inert bank, for the sun acts on one side first, and on the
other this luxuriant foliage, the creation of an hour, I am affected as if in a peculiar sense I
stood in the laboratory of the Artist who made the world and me, had come to where he was still
at work, sporting on this bank, and with excess of energy strewing his fresh designs about. I feel
as if I were nearer to the vitals of the globe, for this sandy overflow is something such a
foliaceous mass as the vitals of the animal body. You find thus in the very sands an anticipation
of the vegetable leaf. No wonder that the earth expresses itself outwardly in leaves, it so labors

The Quranic and Biblical Story of Adam and Eve Christianity and Islam are similar in many
beliefs and have many intersecting histories. These beliefs include major points such as a God and
ancient prophets. However, Islam and Christianity vary significantly between their religious written
works. These works are the Bible and the Qur an. The compilation of both in their respective
religions however do point back to God. God being the omnipotent deity in which these religions
believe in. It should be mentioned that although both religions have a God , that does not mean it
is the same God. There are key differences in beliefs, culture and history between the two. These
two religions are considered Abrahamic religions. Therefore they share a similar past and their
records talk about similar topics and events that transpired in the past. To help distinguish some
key points of the two religions, one can compare the works of them, regarding the past. This essay
will compare and contrast the same story of Adam and Eve in the Qur an and Bible and discuss
various key points from both and how that applies to elements of its religion. In the Bible, on the
sixth day of creation, God created all the land animals and humans. God created man in his own
image. In the bible he formed man and breathed life into him. This first human was named Adam.

Evaluate The Importance Of Numeracy
The development and proper application of an individuals mathematical ability is a complex

education system as well. Education is the foundation to secure an individual in having a better
future and a successful career in life. Public education primarily falls upon the state and local
government to take charge of, which get divided up into local school districts that are managed
by school boards. School boards are an elected body corporate which manages delegated powers

Essay on History and Philosophy of Science
History and Philosophy of Science
The world of science, as we know it today, is a difficult subject to grasp. So many new ideas are
present and these new ideas are not interchangeable. Some parts do work together although as a
whole they don t fully coincide with each other. The three basic ideas that science is now based
upon come from Newton, Einstein, and Hawking. I call these ideas/theories new based on what I
classify the state of the scientific community of today. After looking at what is going on in science,
it is clear to me that the scientific world is in a crisis state. According to Kuhn, a crisis state is when
science is in the middle of choosing a particular paradigm to work under. For scientists, there is a

Newton had given the world what we now know as physics. For the past three hundred years
Newtonian Mechanics have been taught to every student aspiring to elevate their minds.
Newtonian Mechanics were the end all to the questions that had plagued thinkers since the
beginning of time. The key difference is that Newton was never exposed to the world of science
that technology had made prevalent to the likes of an Einstein or Hawking, or even my
colleague studying neuro surgery at John s Hopkins University. When Newton was sitting
under his apple tree conjuring up ideas for how and why he did not fly off into space or why the
harder you hit something the farther it goes, technology was moving along at the rate of most
people s grandmothers in their walkers. The scientists that had surrounded Newton knew only
of what they could see. Their were no people looking to the far ends of the galaxies and their
were no people looking in to the unseen cells that make up everything that we can see. Basically,
Newton did not have a reason to explain what he was not aware of. He did have quite good
reason, however, to explain why he got a bump on his head from that ripe apple that no longer
needed the shelter of the tree. According to Shlain, Newton set the world he knew to mechanics
and set the parameters for the new and final, well what was thought to be the final paradigm of the
world. Then in 1905,

Nhl Profit Maximization Case Study
Do NHL teams profit maximize? Explain how the authors come to this conclusion.
Overview:
Before we dive into the details on whether the NHL team or any sports team for that matter
maximize profit, it would be worthwhile to answer 2 basic questions as put forth by the author:
пЃ¶Would a sports fan not go to a game which he is die hard fan of because he/she thinks the team
profit maximizes?
пЃ¶Would a sports team forego additional revenue?
As with any commodity, price of an arena seat is set by supply and demand. This is why it always
rings false when NHL execs try to link ticket prices to player salaries.
Any sports game ticket demand in North America is influenced by a number of factors:
пЃ¶Changes in per capita consumer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The factors affecting demand for ticket is outlined in Section above.
(iii)A single price depicts a team s choice alternative though this does not hold in real circumstance
where the pricing varies based on the seat allocation.
The author has begun his analysis with a (Inverse) Demand function.
What is an Inverse Demand Function?
In economics, an inverse demand function , P = fв€’1(Q),is a function that maps the quantity of
output demanded to the market price (dependent variable) for that output. Quantity demanded, Q, is
a function of price; the inverse demand function treats price as a function of quantity demanded,
and is also called the price function.
Contrary to what we think, an inverse demand function is NOT the reciprocal of the demand
function the word inverse refers to the mathematical concept of an inverse function.
In mathematical terms, if the demand function is f(P),in which P is price, so the value of the
function is the quantity demanded (Q), then the inverse demand function is f 1(Q), whose value is
the highest price that could be charged and still generate the quantity demanded Q. This is to say
that the inverse demand function is the demand function with the axes switched. This is useful
because economists typically place price (P) on the vertical axis and quantity (Q) on the horizontal
axis.
The inverse demand function is the same as the average revenue function, since

Chief Seattle Essay
Chief Seattle
When stories are told about the American Indian it is usually the Indians that are looked upon as
the heathens. They are portrayed as savages who spent most of their time raiding wagon trains and
scalping the white settlers just for fun. The media has lead us to believe that the American
government was forced to take the land from these savage Indians. We should put the blame where
it belongs, on the U.S. Government who lied, cheated, and stole from the Indians forcing many
Indian leaders to surrender not only their tribes but their nation in order to save the lives of their
people.
Among the Indians of the Pacific Northwest, perhaps the best known may be Chief Seattle. Chief

they were meet by Indians. Once the settlers were able to make it on there own, they no longer
needed Indian help. Then they began to try to change the ways and beliefs of the Indian. One of
the aspects that the settlers spent much time on trying to change of the Indians was their
religion. Influenced by missionaries, Seattle decided to convert to Christianity and was later
baptized in 1838 by Father Modest Demers, at which time Seattle adopted the Christian name
Noah . One of the major differences I noticed while researching information about Chief Seattle
is that in Catholicism there is one book, I m sure that we all have heard of it, the Bible. In
Catholicism it is made up of the Old Testament and the New Testament. The Old Testament is
made up of scriptures before the coming of Jesus. The New Testament is made up of scriptures
written up after the coming of Jesus. These scriptures are written up pretty straight forward and
they are read year in and year out. There is no room for individual interpretation by the reader, it is
set in structure. In the Indian religion everything is told through myths and legends. Because of this
everything is passed down from chief to chief

Common Stock And Preferred Stock Essay
First: Equity
Common Stock and Preferred Stock are both methods of purchasing equity in a business entity.
Common stock generally carries voting rights along with it, while preferred shares generally do not.
Preferred shares act like a hybrid security, in between common stock and holding debt. Preferred
stock can (depending on the issue) be converted to common stock and have access to accumulated
dividends and multiple other rights. Preferred stock also has access to dividends and assets in the
case of liquidation before common stock does. Second :Debt
Debt can be purchased from a company in the form of a bond.
A bond is a financial security that represents a promise by a company or government to repay a
certain amount, with interest, to the bondholder.
# Bonds and stocks are both securities, but the major difference between the two is that (capital)
stockholders have an equity stake in the company (i.e., they are owners), whereas, bondholders have
a creditor stake in the company (i.e., they are lenders). Another difference is that bonds usually have
a defined term, or maturity, after which the bond is redeemed, whereas stocks may be outstanding
indefinitely

With a unanimous 3 0 vote on January 14, 2014, the US Circuit Court of Appeals for the
District of Columbia circuit court gutted key pieces of the Federal Communication
Commission s (FCC) 2010 order to broadband service providers, or, net neutrality rules .
Simply put, net neutrality is the principle that broadband providers should treat all Internet content
and applications equally (Lyons). Based on telecommunications law, the FCC s 2010 order had
created a set of three primary rules for net neutrality to govern how broadband companies were to

Both Wu and Lyons approach the net neutrality debate from a legal angle these angles are, of
course, different and lead to drastically different trajectories.
Whereas Wu approaches it with a concern for fairness to the consumer and the small market ,
Lyons examines the apparent lack of fairness towards the providers. It goes without saying that the
repercussions of this angle for Lyons distance his argument from many audience.
Furthermore, both use history Wu, in terms of cyclical trends throughout history and new
technologies, and Lyons through a comprehensive analysis of the past and current applications of
unreasonable discrimination as laid out through В§202. Ultimately, Lyons opines, that
broadband providers should be permitted the same flexibility [as telephone companies] and

The Second World War II
The Second World War is one of the most familiar wars to the everyday person because of its
massive effect on the global community s future. It is arguably the first and only total war in the
history of the war. Hew Strachan believes that it is because of its totality, which is seen through
all of the components and scale of World War II. His fellow historian Robert Messer agrees
saying That first truly global conflict mobilized economies and populations of the world on a
scale and degree that, if not total, was unprecedented in history. They both agree, that World War
II is the best example of total war for basically the same reasons, but Strachan will go more in
depth. While, Messer dives into the morality of dropping the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and
Nagasaki. I will first review Strachan s essay and then will explain how Strachan and Messer
both agree that the Second World War was total in nature. First, we will examine Strachan s
essay, Total War . He gives a very good and detailed argument for how total war was perceived
before and after the war. He explains that total war was used before the war as a means to fully
mobilize a nation, but after the war it was used to describe the carnage inflicted on the enemy. This
argument gives total war two definitions, which may be fair, because how can something abstract
have a truly rigid definition. In reality, the combination of the two definitions lead to a viable
single definition of the process of total war.

racial inequality when two sons of a white neighborhood storekeeper stopped playing with him.
Whether the father of the two didn t want them to play with him or the two boys were influenced
by the events around them is not known. Either way King knew this was wrong. His mother was
never too subtle when she explained racial discrimination, but always reminded him that he was

Anthropology Rites Of Passage
Rites of passage is a term often used in anthropology to refer to specific ceremonies that mark a
personal or collective change in the identity of a person. The term rite of passage was first used in
anthropology to encapsulate rituals that symbolize the transition of an individual or a group from
one status to another, or to denote the passage of calendrical time . (Tzanelli, 2010) Rites of passage
have been a major part of almost all educational, social and spiritual groups. They have been
observed immensely in native tribal traditional societies, which account for ninety nine percent of
human history. All around the world, societies implement unique rituals and events to signify a
transition of a person from one social identity to another. (Frey, 2013). Rites of passage ceremonies

Rites of passage have been viewed in different ways by the anthropologists who study them. Social
anthropologists view them as transitional stages that help transition individual from one status to
another. In other words they are a social acknowledgement of aging. These anthropologists believe
that without them societies would be full of conflict as individuals would have a harder time

African American Stereotypes In Fences
People are natural evaluators of everything they come across, and they attempt to acquire insights as
they evaluate other people. Stereotypes are the beliefs that people hold concerning other human
groups after gaining insights about them. Racial stereotypes have been common among African
Americans and the whites. In the 20th century, African Americans were stereotyped as
contaminated and dirty by the whites; maybe because of the insufficient income they are said to
earn. The whites also associate African Americans with substance use. Additionally, the Sambo
stereotypeassociates the black community with slavery and simple mindedness. Up to the current
times, movies and other forms of art and literature portray stereotype themes. These stereotypes
have shaped the attitudes of the two groups towards each other since the beginning of the American

Argumentative Essay On Euthanasia
The issue of euthanasia occupies an essential place among many legal, medical, religious and
other problems. The phenomenon itself is a subject for reflection of public consciousness since
human life today is the primary value for the world society. The issue has acquired another way of
demand because, about all legal and moral realities, the right to life brings it to the level of
universal and global challenges of our time. Advances in modern medicine have changed the
attitude towards deathas a one stage phenomenon, doctors today can support the life of patients
even in the gravest condition, not allowing him or her to die. For this reason, the previously used
criteria for determining a person s death came into conflict with its new scientific understanding,
and the role of euthanasiadiscusses the considerable controversy. At the same time, euthanasia is
gaining momentum, as every year several thousand people go to another world with the voluntary
consent and assistance of doctors and a real euthanasia applied to children and people with
questionable testimonies for the termination of life. Therefore, the question of euthanasia today is
acuter than ever, complicated not only for reasons of rationale and humanity but also from a
religious point of view.
The right to die is known since ancient times. The word Euthanasia came from the Greeks which
means good death. In the 5th Century B.C before Christianity, suicide, infant homicide, and active
euthanasia were all

The Importance Of Community In Our Town By Thornton Wilder
Somewhere there is a town where everyone s best friend is their next door neighbor. Everyone
here would always stop and talk about what is going on, no matter who you are. Such community
does exist, but only in the small town of Grover s Corners, New Hampshire. The value and
importance of community is shown in Our Town by Thornton Wilderusing repetition and pattern of
events. A few important times this is shown is the play is when Emily and George s disagreements
with each other help grow their relationship. When Howie Newsome greets neighbors while he
delivers the milk across town is a significant part of Grover s Corners community. Emily s death is
also meaningful to the community s connections to each other.
The value of community is shown when Emily would repeatedly argue with George but their
disagreements made their relationship better. One small disagreement between George and Emily
happened on their way home from school one day:
GEORGE. I don t mean the answers, Emily, of course not ... just some little hints ...
EMILY. Oh, I think hints are allowed. So ah if you get stuck, George, you whistle to me; and I ll
give you some hints. (29)
In this passage, Emily s hesitation shows she unsure if she is willing to help George with his work.
Emily does not affirm her disagreement with George mostly because she does not want him to
continue pleading for answers. Emily and George s arguments came up a few times throughout the
story:
GEORGE. Oh.. I don t think it s possible

Islamic Banking Practices Compared to Conventional Banking...
Introduction
The co existence of conventional banking along with Islamic banking gives an exceptional
platform to compare Islamic banking practices with those of conventional banking practices. It is
clearly known that Islamic banks are different from those of conventional banks since they do not
deal with interest (Riba), i.e. usury, which is totally banned in Islam. In other words, banks are not
allowed to take an interest rate on the loans given to customers. The concept considered in Islamic
banking is the profit and loss sharing (PLS) which is based on profit sharing and joint venture that
goes with Islamic Sharia. In fact, PLS adapts the system of integration in which borrowers share
profits and losses with banks with their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The privilege of Islamic banking is that it provides the same services the conventional banks
provide but with the Islamic Sharia. What is more important of this study is to find out more about
the profit and loss sharing PLS paradigm.
Objectives of the Study
The main objective of this study is: (a) to find out the extent of using profit and sharing paradigm
in Islamic banks in Jordan; (b) to search about the main principles of Islamic interest free banking
and operations compared to interest based banking system in Jordan; and (c) to compare between
conventional deposit rates and Islamic investment rates.

services which make different from those of conventional banks.
The Methodology
To find out more about the usage of profit loss sharing paradigm in Islamic banking system, the
researcher will consider the long run relation and the short run dynamics between conventional
deposit rates and Islamic investment rates. To investigate about the profit and loss sharing
paradigm, we follow (Chong Ming Hua, 2009) long run and short run principles and efficiencies
tests to compare the conventional deposit rates with those of Islamic banking rates. The Bivariate
Granger Causality Test will be first used to determine the dependent and independent variables of
this feature.
Two hypotheses will be tested: (a) changes in the

Future Nurse Research Paper
Preparing to become a nurse includes many challenging factors such as leadership and diversity.
Leadership is a very important factor because as a nurse, it is important to listen to a patient s
concerns and act on them to help their patients. As important as leadership is to preparing to be a
future nurse, it is not the sole contributing factor. Diversity is another essential component that I
believe is necessary to allow us to learn and grow together with different cultural, racial, and ethnic
groups. I have had many experiences of both leadership and diversity that will help prepare me to
be a future nurse.
One of my personal experiences that has developed my leadership skills was when I was a
mentor to young children during Sunday school throughout the duration of my high school career.
Mentoring these children has given me a vast amount of great leadership qualities due to all of the
responsibilities that come with looking after young children which gave me practice of looking
after people like nurses do. There was diversity throughout the Sunday school class as well, not by
varying religion, but due to the dissimilar backgrounds of children who came ... Show more content

Jungle Essay
The Jungle by Upton Sinclare was the novel I chose to read for this final section.
This book was 359 pages long with 31 chapter inside. From beginning to end, this book had detail
unlike any I have ever read in the past this year. The way this novel was structured was a one sided
view of how the industrial age was horrible to live in. Sinclare hated this time and used this book to
show how bad it really was.
Two very major character in the book happen to be a couple. There names are
Jurgis Rudkus and Ona Lukoszaite. The couple meet in Lithuania, where the book begins, and later

Ona s stepmothers name is Elizbieta Lukoszaite. She is the link to the past. She is the one who

Another inspiration is Marija.
Marija Berczynskas is the one with the best bets of surviving in America. She has many great traits
that set her apart from the others. She is a leader and conqueror. But we come to find out that all
isn t what it seems to be.
The main setting in this book is in Chicago, Illinois between 1900 and 1904. Most of the book
takes place here. The setting of this city is a good one because Chicago is one of many place where
many immigrants went to when they came to this country. Another place where the book it told at
is Lithuania. Lithuania is where the families originate from.
There is where Jurgis falls in love with Ona and where Ona s father dies. In Lithuania is where the
decision was made to move to America in the first place.

biomes. These Arctic like biomes would include the Arctic of course, the Taiga, and the Tundra.
They are very well known for its ridiculously cold and harsh climate and is important because it
helps moderate our global climate. One example of an animalfrom these Arctic like biomes is the
Mustela obsesipedetes. There is little doubt that creatures in these Arctic like biomes are perfectly
adapted for life in the cold. In my personal opinion, I believe that the Mustela obsesipedetes is the

The Mustela albus obesipedetes has adapted to its environment in many numerous ways such as it

course of the biome s harsh winters, it snows a tremendous amount, making everything white, icy,
and snowy. In the winter, the Mustela albus obesipedetes fur is snowy white and turns brown as it
transitions to the summer, blending into the environment. Another characteristic it has is its ability
to keep warm against the jarring cold weather. The Mustela albus obesipedetes has insulated
blubber, making it fat, but helps it keep cozy, warm, and active throughout its day. The diet of the
Mustela albus obesipedetes primarily consists of meat, such as polar bears, wolves, eagles, foxes,

Perspective In The Renaissance
To understand the importance of perspective in art during the Renaissance era, one must
understand the importance of art during the Renaissance era. Art was closely associated with
religion, but was also a way to depict what is and what was. Perspective came to rise during the
Italian Renaissance for a myriad of reasons, but mainly in creating a sense of realism and allowing
on to manipulate space.
The utilization of perspective allowed the viewers to have a more intimate relationship with items
of worship in a sacred setting. Many paintings were closely tied to sacred paintings as an item to
assist worship or to retell the narrative of the Bible. the renaissance was also a time of fascination
with realism, exampled by Vasari s praise of the bare torso for its perfection as an anatomic study in
regard to the Piero della Francesca. Art is also very complicated in that it grounds its
persuasiveness in the truth of optical experience (Pardo, Giotto and the Thing Not Seen). The
addition of perspective allows sacred paintings to appear three dimensional, adding a complexity to
worshippers as it seems as the bible narrative or the person of worship (Mary, Christ, etc.) is
appearing out of the painting directly to the worshipper. This interaction caused the viewer to feel
more intimate in their worship as they felt that they had a genuine, almost tangible connection with
the actual religious figures. Perspective in sacred use is further shown with the possibility that the

Theme Paragraph
#9;Leadership is a prevailing force in life, because one s ability to guide and direct a group
determines the outcome of that group s actions. Those who lead the strikers in the novel In Dubious
Battle by John Steinbeck manifest the idea that some leaders use violence and the thirst for
revenge to augment the spirit of their group. Violence is one tool of which the leaders of the
strikers use to give vitality to their group. The leaders feel that the intense nature of violence is
what provokes the group most out of the aspects of violence. Mac comments, quot; Some things I
do know, though. A smell of blood seems to steam em up. Let em kill somethin , even a cat, an
they ll want to go right on killin . If there s a fight, an our guys get first blood, they ll put up a
hell of a battle. quot; The leaders feel the intensity as London, Mac and Jim discuss, quot;I cold
cocked Burke... I seen you pointin , an I know what to do with em. A little blood set the guys
off. quot; (p. 331) The violence exacted by London brings the strikers to the level at which they
are willing to go into battle. Because violence is such an effective device, leaders like Mac look at
moments of violence as desirable opportunities. Some leaders also use the desire for revenge to
gain exuberance from their group. This desire for revenge stems from the desire to look out for
those who are victims of power. Mac explains,

Examples Of Consumerism In The Invisible Man
Although the Invisible Man talks a lot about racial issues and the struggles of the black community,
to me the Death of a Salesman defies the concept of racial determinism more effectively. The
Invisible Man in a way reinforces the concept of racial determinism through the novel. The idea that
the protagonist has to accept certain stereotypes just because of what his grandfather told him agree
em to death (432), portrays the idea that instead of fighting against these injustices they have to
learn to live with them. Is until the epilogue that there is a confrontation against prejudice in
general. Nevertheless, In the Death of a Salesman racial determinism is defied from the very

MG 401 Senior Seminar in Management Introduction In 1989, Stephen Covey s book The 7
Habits of Highly Effective People started a landmark revolution in how we think about time and
life management. In this book, Covey presents seven principles for developing effectiveness in our
private and public lives. By developing these habits, one moves from being dependent on other
people to being and acting independently. Then we learn how to move to the more advanced state
of interdependence and successful Cooperation. As a part of the seven habits, Covey introduced
important and powerful techniques of time management under the habit of Put First Things First. ...

Argument Stephen Covey has much to say on the qualities of effective people. Covey s purpose
in detailing the seven habits is to help people improve themselves. The seven habits are woven
into a diagram that shows the working of all seven habits in communion. When viewing the
diagram, one is reminded of Benjamin Franklin s engraving of the snake which was divided into
thirteen pieces, with the caption Join or Die. Each of the seven habits is integral to viewing the
picture as a whole, as well as seeing the development from dependence to independence to
interdependence. The first three habits, which lead to independence, a private victory, lead to
the final four steps, which include public victory. My favorite quote of the book is It is nobler to
give yourself completely to one individual than to labor diligently for the salvation of the
masses. (Page 201). My job places me in a position of leadership over other leaders. Often I see
these leaders locked into a limited vision when faced with a difficult situation. They see only a
win/lose or lose/lose scenario. I reflect back on this book frequently and think about the book s
section on win/win and seeing outside the box. The first habit talks about being proactive; being
proactive is the foundation of the entire seven habits paradigm. In a sense, all the other habits are
types of being proactive. This entails a realization that you are a person who

College Free Tuition Should Not Be Free
College Free Tuition Education is one of the best ways to succeed; however not everyone has
access to it and not everyone has the opportunity to have a degree. After high school a lot of
students drop out because the college tuitions are too expensive; they can t afford them. A couple
weeks ago, president Obama came with a proposition in which to make community collegefree for
students because more jobs will require a degree in the future. The program will concern the
students who are serious. It means, in order to qualify, the students have to maintain a 2.5 grade
point average C+, and they have to be full time and be able to transfer to a 4 years college. Other
people believe that community collegeshould not be free because of the following reasons; the
program extends the welfare and encourages people to depend on government and not everyone
needs to go to college. A study of the arguments will show that community college education
should be free. According to Linda Conner Lambeck article, The job expectation in the coming
years will require at least an associate s degree are projected to grow twice as fast as jobs
requiring no college experience. The United States needs more college graduates in other to
improve the economy. So making the community college free for students it is one of the best
ways to start growing the economy. If in upcoming years the country doesn t have enough of

3D printing has been used in different aspects of every field but mostly its application has been
limited to making prototypes. 3D printing versus Traditional Manufacturing techniques in almost
every field is still very debatable.
The last time a global survey for homelessness was attempted by the United Nations in 2005, an
estimated 100 million people were homeless worldwide. As many as 1.6 billion people lacked
adequate housing. [1] In the United States, on a single night in January 2015, 564,708 people
were experiencing homelessness meaning they were sleeping outside or in an emergency shelter
or transitional housing program. [2] In 2013, the Slum population in India went up from 52
million to 65 million and it has been predicted to rise to 104 million. [3] Looking at the statistics,
the main cause for homelessness could be contributed to the cost of affordable housing. Another
example that could be considered could be of people living in disaster prone areas where people
lose their houses overnight. In such scenarios, 3D printing could be a viable solution where houses
could be printed in a couple of days as compared to traditional construction methods where people
need to seek out emergency shelters till their houses are built. Also, 3D printing a house gives
Architects ability to design and build structures which are complex

Should Condoms Be Distributed in High Schools
Teen s Health Causes Condom Distribution in Public High Schools The average age for the start of
puberty is eleven years old. During adolescence, teens undergo changes within their bodies. This is
the time where they begin to form their own identity. As a result, it leads to experimentation in a
vast number of ways. Dress, personality, and drugs are all types of experimentation that teens go
through. The most important is sexuality. Decisions being made by teens today are resulting in
consequences that are affecting their own health. The recent breakout of STD s (sexually

However, when it comes to sexually transmitted diseases and AIDS, victims of those diseases
may not be so lucky and in some cases, unfortunately result in deaths. Health of teenagers needs
to be taken seriously because they are the next generation. If no action is put in place to prevent
such diseases, spreading continuously throughout the world may occur. The consequences of
not using condoms are immense. According to a nursing school website, one in four college
students has an STD. Society needs to think long and hard about how their future will unfold if
they do not act fast. Condoms should be available in high schools because of the rise in teen
pregnancy, STD s and Aids. The big picture is teen s health and helping them in any way
possible to benefit in the long run. Because the previously mentioned studies have shown that
having condoms available in schools increases the percentage of students who use condoms as
well as not change the percent of students who are sexually active makes the decision to have
condoms available in the nurses office simple. The nurse s office is the desired place because it is
already an established department dedicated to teen s health. However, students may not just walk
in and grab condoms at their convenience; there are certain requirements that must be met before
they are granted such privileges. Because kids come from all different types of schools, it s not fair
to have requirements

  • 2. Sweetness and Power Essays Sweetness and Power Sweetness and Power: The Place of Sugar in Modern History Some of the most brilliant minds have made many unorthodox suggestions. This is the case with Sidney Mintz s thesis in Sweetness and Power: The Place of Modern History. Mintz s suggestions that industrial capitalism originated in the Caribbean sugar plantations may seem to contradict the European version of world history fed to most of the Western world, but is nevertheless supported by substantial evidence. In general, Western education has conditioned students to believe that everything productive originated in Europe. Mintz begins by explaining the process of obtaining granular sugar from the liquid extracted from the sugar cane. There was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Similar to factory workers, cheap labor was used for mass production of commodities to meet the growing demand. As a result, Mintz completely transformed my ideas on industrial capitalism. As a consumer and lover of sugar, I have now given a considerable amount of thought to the sugar that I consumed so often. The extent to which the Caribbean people and land were exploited is unfathomable. When speaking of a plantation , Americans usually think and refer to the cotton plantations in the South. Even those Americans with roots in the Caribbean are completely unaware of the exploitation of their land and people. The long term effects of this exploitation led to the underdevelopment of these Caribbean countries. These effects are still evident today as most of the Caribbean islands are labeled as Third World Countries . In addition, Mintz mentions the separation of the production from consumption. The Major consumers of sugar were not the hard workers on the plantation, but the far removed citizens of England. The plantation workers were not able to profit from the fruit of ... • 3. Summary Of Night By Elie Wiesel Andrew Giacona Dr. Berg EUH 1001 01Z 1 May. 2016 Essay on Night Have you ever had to make an instant decision that would significantly impact your life? I certainly had to make some quick decisions and I m sure you as well had to make some impactful choices. This is exactly what Elie Wiesel was forced to do when it came down to a life or death situation. There are 3 decisions that I had come across that I thought would be important if I was in Elie s position to make a sacrificial or crucial decisions that would determine the outcome of your life or others. One of them is lying about ages. Another is Escaping or staying in camp. The last one is making a wise choice to eat. Let s begin with the ages. One of the decisions Elie had to make was when an inmate was yelling at Elie asking how old he was. The inmate was telling Elie and his father to lie about their ages to the officers so that they would not be killed. Elie, 15 and Shlomo, 50 had to lie about their ages by saying they were 18 and 40 so that they would be able to stay in the camps and not be sent to the crematorium. Elie had to make a fast decision that would be life or death and they chose the right thing to do by listening to the inmate. For all we know, the inmate could ve been setting them up! Was that a wise choice for them to do? Next, we have the Escape. Another decision Elie had to make was when he said I had made up my mind to accompany my father wherever he went (Wiesel 82). I feel that this is one of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Beginning as a joint venture created by 21st Century Fox and NBCUniversal to distribute their television programming over the Internet, (Harvard 2017) Hulu has expanded generously, offering the four largest broadcasting networks. In the wake of a new television era, Hulu has the potential to serve as a Multichannel Video Programming Distributor (MVPD). The following write up includes an analysis of Hulu s current market standings, including an investigation of growth statistics as well as the company s overall marketing situation. Although competition has begun delving into the realm of original programming, Netflix, Amazon, and HBO have spent millions of dollars to create original content for their subscribers. Hulu should have saved the money allocated to original programming and relied on the content created by the entertainment giants that created it, 21st Century Fox and NBCUniversal. With live streaming subscriptions available, Hulu has already differentiated itself from most of its direct competition. They should have established a stronger position in the brand new market of alternative live streaming rather than playing catch up in the well developed segment of original ... The human race has accepted their history and works because it is their own choice by recreational intake, for productivity, and self medicating that has kept them alive for us to view their own life and such mentality that some may learn from or even follow. Without the self induced madness and without the people who tried self treating the psychiatric illnesses, we would not have the colorful history of the talented people who influenced the world. • 6. The Robert E. Lee Statue Should Be Removed Why the Robert E. Lee Statue Should Be Removed Imagine your children living in a world full of hatred, prejudice, and discrimination from their brothers and sisters of America. The ultimate reality where a minority man or woman can t cross the street without feeling vulnerable or concerned of an issue occurring because of who they are. I am telling you this because if we let the Robert E. Leestatue remain standing, our world will become a dystopia of animosity and bigotry with the support of White Supremacists and Neo Nazis. In the late 1800 s, President Lincoln wanted to abolish slavery all throughout the United States, however, the South believed that it was unconstitutional to eradicate slavery. Due to the disagreement about slavery between the Union and the Confederates, they began the American Civil Warand endured the four years of combat casualties on both sides, until the Union won and slavery was completely abolished. Subsequently, many statues emerged in southern states honoring Confederate soldiers and leaders that fought against the Union in the Civil War, such as the Robert E. Lee monument. With rich history, like ours, we can see the evolution in our society and learn from our racial, degrading, and dishonorable actions that has affected one to several millions of Americans. Although the Robert E. Lee statue is a form of history, the statues need to be removed from the public property because of the true representation behind the monument and the pain in remembering our infamous racial past. To receive a statue in your name and have it placed in an area meant for recognition is an honor, this is given for the highest respect and privilege to those who impacted the society positively and fought for a change. The social and racial equality in America has progressed since the Civil War and the space for bigotry and acrimony for other ethnicities is limited, the society now embraces a broader meaning of diversity and equivalence with gender, sexuality, and ethnicity. In spite of that, a man who believed and fought for the entitlement of slaves was honored with a statue of his own, infamously named the Robert E. Lee statue. How can we let a representation of racial inequality and discrimination ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sickle Cell Anemia Disease is an inherited disease that turns healthy red blood cells (donut shape) into abnormal sickle shaped red cells which affects people s hemoglobin (a red protein responsible for transporting oxygen in the blood) (Naoum). This disease gets its name from the shape of red blood cells under low oxygen condensation which becomes sickle shaped. • 10. The Effects Of Globalization On Contemporary And... Globalization is the interaction among people, companies and governments of different nations. It is a process that is driven by international trade and investment but, is also supported by information technology (What is Globalization?). Large corporations have taken advantage of foreign markets by building factories in less developed countries and through using established marketing arrangements with foreign partners. A defining feature of globalization, therefore, is an international, industrial and financial business structure (What is Globalization?). In this essay, I am going to consider the effects of globalization on contemporary, developing and indigenous cultures. This will include looking at both the negative effects as well as the benefits of globalization on the world as a whole. Globalization is profoundly controversial. Some people argue that this international change allows poor countries and their citizens to develop economically and raise their standards of living. Others claim that the creation of an international free market has only benefited multinational corporations in the Western world at the expense of local enterprise and cultures and by the exploitation of less developed countries (What is Globalization?). Firstly, Globalization has had a large effect on contemporary culture. For example, technological development is as a big part of globalization and has transformed many cultures from subsidence farming to commercial farming, raising cash from ... Europe was divided as two competing alliances, Central Powers (Britain, France, and Russia) and Triple Entente (Germany, Austro Hungary, and Italy). On June 28, 1914, the two alliances started breaking apart. Archduke Franz Ferdinand, the heir to the throne of the Austro Hungarian Empire, and his wife, Sophie, were assassinated by a Serbian nationalist while visiting Sarajevo. Austria declared war on Serbia as a result. This led to Russia defending Serbia. By August 3, Germany declared war on Russia and France and invaded Belgium. Great Britain declared war on Germany. The author has begun his analysis with a (Inverse) Demand function. What is an Inverse Demand Function? In economics, an inverse demand function , P = fв€’1(Q),is a function that maps the quantity of output demanded to the market price (dependent variable) for that output. Quantity demanded, Q, is a function of price; the inverse demand function treats price as a function of quantity demanded, and is also called the price function. Contrary to what we think, an inverse demand function is NOT the reciprocal of the demand function the word inverse refers to the mathematical concept of an inverse function. In mathematical terms, if the demand function is f(P),in which P is price, so the value of the function is the quantity demanded (Q), then the inverse demand function is f 1(Q), whose value is the highest price that could be charged and still generate the quantity demanded Q. This is to say that the inverse demand function is the demand function with the axes switched. This is useful because economists typically place price (P) on the vertical axis and quantity (Q) on the horizontal axis. The inverse demand function is the same as the average revenue function, since ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Chief Seattle Essay Chief Seattle When stories are told about the American Indian it is usually the Indians that are looked upon as the heathens. They are portrayed as savages who spent most of their time raiding wagon trains and scalping the white settlers just for fun. The media has lead us to believe that the American government was forced to take the land from these savage Indians. We should put the blame where it belongs, on the U.S. Government who lied, cheated, and stole from the Indians forcing many Indian leaders to surrender not only their tribes but their nation in order to save the lives of their people. Influenced by missionaries, Seattle decided to convert to Christianity and was later baptized in 1838 by Father Modest Demers, at which time Seattle adopted the Christian name Noah . One of the major differences I noticed while researching information about Chief Seattle is that in Catholicism there is one book, I m sure that we all have heard of it, the Bible. In Catholicism it is made up of the Old Testament and the New Testament. The Old Testament is made up of scriptures before the coming of Jesus. The New Testament is made up of scriptures written up after the coming of Jesus. These scriptures are written up pretty straight forward and they are read year in and year out. There is no room for individual interpretation by the reader, it is set in structure. In the Indian religion everything is told through myths and legends. Common stock generally carries voting rights along with it, while preferred shares generally do not. Preferred shares act like a hybrid security, in between common stock and holding debt. Preferred stock can (depending on the issue) be converted to common stock and have access to accumulated dividends and multiple other rights. Preferred stock also has access to dividends and assets in the case of liquidation before common stock does. Second :Debt Debt can be purchased from a company in the form of a bond. A bond is a financial security that represents a promise by a company or government to repay a certain amount, with interest, to the bondholder. # Bonds and stocks are both securities, but the major difference between the two is that (capital) stockholders have an equity stake in the company (i.e., they are owners), whereas, bondholders have a creditor stake in the company (i.e., they are lenders). It is arguably the first and only total war in the history of the war. Hew Strachan believes that it is because of its totality, which is seen through all of the components and scale of World War II. His fellow historian Robert Messer agrees saying That first truly global conflict mobilized economies and populations of the world on a scale and degree that, if not total, was unprecedented in history. They both agree, that World War II is the best example of total war for basically the same reasons, but Strachan will go more in depth. While, Messer dives into the morality of dropping the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I will first review Strachan s essay and then will explain how Strachan and Messer both agree that the Second World War was total in nature. First, we will examine Strachan s essay, Total War . He gives a very good and detailed argument for how total war was perceived before and after the war. He explains that total war was used before the war as a means to fully mobilize a nation, but after the war it was used to describe the carnage inflicted on the enemy. This argument gives total war two definitions, which may be fair, because how can something abstract have a truly rigid definition. In reality, the combination of the two definitions lead to a viable single definition of the process of total war. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Art was closely associated with religion, but was also a way to depict what is and what was. Perspective came to rise during the Italian Renaissance for a myriad of reasons, but mainly in creating a sense of realism and allowing on to manipulate space. The utilization of perspective allowed the viewers to have a more intimate relationship with items of worship in a sacred setting. Many paintings were closely tied to sacred paintings as an item to assist worship or to retell the narrative of the Bible. the renaissance was also a time of fascination with realism, exampled by Vasari s praise of the bare torso for its perfection as an anatomic study in regard to the Piero della Francesca. Art is also very complicated in that it grounds its persuasiveness in the truth of optical experience (Pardo, Giotto and the Thing Not Seen). The addition of perspective allows sacred paintings to appear three dimensional, adding a complexity to worshippers as it seems as the bible narrative or the person of worship (Mary, Christ, etc.) is appearing out of the painting directly to the worshipper. This interaction caused the viewer to feel more intimate in their worship as they felt that they had a genuine, almost tangible connection with the actual religious figures. Argument Stephen Covey has much to say on the qualities of effective people. Covey s purpose in detailing the seven habits is to help people improve themselves. The seven habits are woven into a diagram that shows the working of all seven habits in communion. When viewing the diagram, one is reminded of Benjamin Franklin s engraving of the snake which was divided into thirteen pieces, with the caption Join or Die. Each of the seven habits is integral to viewing the picture as a whole, as well as seeing the development from dependence to independence to interdependence. The first three habits, which lead to independence, a private victory, lead to the final four steps, which include public victory. My favorite quote of the book is It is nobler to give yourself completely to one individual than to labor diligently for the salvation of the masses. (Page 201). My job places me in a position of leadership over other leaders. Often I see these leaders locked into a limited vision when faced with a difficult situation. They see only a win/lose or lose/lose scenario. I reflect back on this book frequently and think about the book s section on win/win and seeing outside the box. The first habit talks about being proactive; being proactive is the foundation of the entire seven habits paradigm. In a sense, all the other habits are types of being proactive. This entails a realization that you are a person who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The last time a global survey for homelessness was attempted by the United Nations in 2005, an estimated 100 million people were homeless worldwide. As many as 1.6 billion people lacked adequate housing. [1] In the United States, on a single night in January 2015, 564,708 people were experiencing homelessness meaning they were sleeping outside or in an emergency shelter or transitional housing program. [2] In 2013, the Slum population in India went up from 52 million to 65 million and it has been predicted to rise to 104 million. [3] Looking at the statistics, the main cause for homelessness could be contributed to the cost of affordable housing. Another example that could be considered could be of people living in disaster prone areas where people lose their houses overnight. In such scenarios, 3D printing could be a viable solution where houses could be printed in a couple of days as compared to traditional construction methods where people need to seek out emergency shelters till their houses are built. Also, 3D printing a house gives Architects ability to design and build structures which are complex ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, when it comes to sexually transmitted diseases and AIDS, victims of those diseases may not be so lucky and in some cases, unfortunately result in deaths. Health of teenagers needs to be taken seriously because they are the next generation. If no action is put in place to prevent such diseases, spreading continuously throughout the world may occur. The consequences of not using condoms are immense. According to a nursing school website, one in four college students has an STD. Society needs to think long and hard about how their future will unfold if they do not act fast. Condoms should be available in high schools because of the rise in teen pregnancy, STD s and Aids. The big picture is teen s health and helping them in any way possible to benefit in the long run. Because the previously mentioned studies have shown that having condoms available in schools increases the percentage of students who use condoms as well as not change the percent of students who are sexually active makes the decision to have condoms available in the nurses office simple. The nurse s office is the desired place because it is already an established department dedicated to teen s health. However, students may not just walk in and grab condoms at their convenience; there are certain requirements that must be met before they are granted such privileges. Because kids come from all different types of schools, it s not fair to have requirements ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
